- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, what's up all you wonderfully wicked people.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I'm Ben, I'm Nicole, and you're listening to Wicked and Grim,
- 0:08Speaker 2: a true crime podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Warning. The following podcast contains and material intended more mature audience.
- 0:19Speaker 1: The listener discretion. We don't have any any cans to
- 0:40Speaker 1: open this episode, cheers the clink. We have Margarita's.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a party to not we are.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It's Monday and we're just drinking Margarita's. That's it. There's
- 0:51Speaker 1: no story to go along with it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: But they probably don't know that we're actually like obsessed
- 0:54Speaker 2: with Margarita's.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Margarita's are the ship.
- 0:57Speaker 2: They're freaking delicious.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The only beverage better than Margarita is chocolate.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Oh okay, I like, what is it? What is it?
- 1:06Speaker 1: Chocolate milk? That's it. That's the only one that can
- 1:08Speaker 1: be to Margarita.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I think i'd if I had to
- 1:12Speaker 2: choose between the two, I would choose Margarita.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, when we're in Vancouver, we'll have to make
- 1:16Speaker 1: sure that we like, go get a lot of Margaritas,
- 1:19Speaker 1: because I'm pretty sure I mix like the best margarita ever.
- 1:22Speaker 1: So let's see if someone can compete with my margarita, just.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Saying your margarita is a pretty dang good.
- 1:26Speaker 1: If you guys want a margarita recipe, I'm gonna tell
- 1:29Speaker 1: you right now. Minute made limemad a whole can of
- 1:32Speaker 1: that bunch of ice, tequila triple sec and a little
- 1:35Speaker 1: bit of water just to kind of make it so
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's not like too like slushy and boom, and you
- 1:42Speaker 1: got like the best margarita in the world.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Just saying it's pretty good.
- 1:45Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I don't actually love the rim salted though I could
- 1:48Speaker 2: pass on that shit. I do.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It hits me right once in a while, but not
- 1:52Speaker 1: not all the time. Some people actually sugar the rim.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Do you know that I would like that better?
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yep. I generally drink it out of a straw though,
- 2:01Speaker 1: so it doesn't matter. I usually just sult it because
- 2:03Speaker 1: it makes it look pretty. Yeah, with your little line,
- 2:05Speaker 1: I want to look fancy a pinky to take a.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Picture your brig and marguerite compared to mine. Mine just
- 2:11Speaker 2: a missed jar like I gave two ships.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Mine's actually in a marguerita glass, salt lime every Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I was just like, just give me the bows.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Yep, you're excited for a Vancouver trip though.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Sorry, I'm just like watching her dog and wondering
- 2:25Speaker 2: if I should go help her.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Oh, she's fine, Okay, she's just aimlessly wandering. She's going
- 2:30Speaker 1: back upstairs screw these guys. Yeah okay, but yeah, this
- 2:34Speaker 1: means next episode is going to be the lady in red.
- 2:36Speaker 2: On location, which is so cool.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Maybe she'll visit us.
- 2:39Speaker 2: She better not.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I kind of hope she does.
- 2:43Speaker 2: You do, hope she does. But honestly, I would be
- 2:46Speaker 2: able to deal with that shit better than you.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Oh, I will scream like a little bitch.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I think it would traumatize you more than Actually.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I want her to come so I can have the
- 2:54Speaker 1: experience and then tell people I handled it like a
- 2:57Speaker 1: manly man when in reality I can.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yeah. And I would know the truth. Yeah, yeah, and
- 3:03Speaker 2: I wouldn't lie for you.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Sorry. I mean I would cower from a lot of things.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I'm I'm one of the kind of guys I would
- 3:10Speaker 1: stand up for some things, but when it comes to
- 3:12Speaker 1: like paranormal activity, I cower.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I think seeing a ghost would be really freaky. But
- 3:19Speaker 2: the main reason I'm excited for Vancouver I feel like
- 3:21Speaker 2: you're excited because you're staying at the Paramount doing this podcast.
- 3:24Speaker 2: But it's just see your tiny homework.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, is done, it's pretty much done well by the
- 3:29Speaker 1: time we done.
- 3:30Speaker 2: By the time we get there, it will be built
- 3:32Speaker 2: on which is like a few weeks a couple of
- 3:33Speaker 2: weeks ahead of schedule, which is like what, So we'll make.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Sure we've logged that and vlog of course the fair
- 3:39Speaker 1: amount as well.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so that'll all be I'm so excited.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So if you want to see some vlogs, some stuff
- 3:44Speaker 1: on YouTube, we only have one video right now, but
- 3:47Speaker 1: coming in Vancouver, we're definitely gonna put more out there.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll have the time.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Hopefully, we're way too busy.
- 3:54Speaker 2: We'll be on vacation. I'm assuming on vacation you have
- 3:56Speaker 2: time to do That's true.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That's true.
- 3:58Speaker 2: That's my goalingway.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't I don't know if I
- 4:00Speaker 1: would have the same amount of time that the person
- 4:03Speaker 1: in this case has though, because this person dedicated a
- 4:07Speaker 1: lot of time.
- 4:08Speaker 2: To watching Well, I know, I just saw your Instagram posts.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I'm not like overly excited about this ship.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Well, I wanted to change the tone a little bit
- 4:15Speaker 1: because the last two cases were pretty heavy hitting.
- 4:17Speaker 2: They were really heavy, so the amount of messages I
- 4:20Speaker 2: would get be like I hate you guys, I know right.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Well, we even had a few people who are like
- 4:25Speaker 1: diehard listeners were like, yeah, I made.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It this one. That one, well it was mostly okay.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I feel like mine was like pretty intense, but we
- 4:32Speaker 2: still like kept it at a like pretty light hearted level.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But yours it just could not be kept at the
- 4:38Speaker 2: lighthearted level.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Well, it dumbfounded shocked both.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Of us so well, and I know I was just
- 4:43Speaker 2: like I didn't know what to say because it was
- 4:44Speaker 2: like holy shit.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Anyways, though this case is as creepy as hell, don't
- 4:48Speaker 1: get me wrong, but it's no one dies, no one's
- 4:52Speaker 1: torture die, no one's raped. So it's it's creepy, but
- 4:57Speaker 1: that's about it.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, it can't be that bad. No one died.
- 5:01Speaker 1: This one is known as the Watcher. The Watcher, Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's a whole stalking episode.
- 5:10Speaker 2: If okay, that's a bit creepy.
- 5:11Speaker 1: If you can want to say it's stocking, I don't
- 5:13Speaker 1: know you we'll get into it. You'll see, make your
- 5:15Speaker 1: own judgment call if you want to call it stocking
- 5:16Speaker 1: or not. Okay, see you ready for this?
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I just took a swig of on margarita. I'm
- 5:20Speaker 2: good to go.
- 5:21Speaker 1: I need to do the same thing.
- 5:24Speaker 2: That was me making side effects. Okay, that's a big.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Swigs down half my margarita.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Now we're gonna have this is our drunk from the drunk.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Okay, we're like five minutes in the intro. Let's let's
- 5:36Speaker 1: get on with this.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Okay. So in June of twenty fourteen, this is this
- 5:41Speaker 1: is fairly recent case, not even ten years ago.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Cool.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I like that Derek and Maria broad Us had closed
- 5:48Speaker 1: the deal to purchase a six bedroom house at six
- 5:51Speaker 1: five seven Boulevard, Westfield, New Jersey. Okay, Westfields. It's it's
- 5:55Speaker 1: a welcoming place. It's like, you know, a nice neighborhood.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's a place where neighbors might like actually introduce themselves,
- 6:01Speaker 1: meet you with warm greeting and welcome you to the
- 6:03Speaker 1: neighborhood sort of thing. You know. It maybe even bring
- 6:05Speaker 1: you a couple cookies on.
- 6:06Speaker 2: A platter or something like a pie or something.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Ki wants some attention. If you're heard hear me?
- 6:11Speaker 1: How Kiwi's like in our face, all our all of
- 6:14Speaker 1: our animals.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I know, I almost want to be like, just go
- 6:17Speaker 2: somewhere else in the tiny home.
- 6:20Speaker 1: We can kick them out of the house maybe, or
- 6:21Speaker 1: it'll just be it will be worse. Okay, welcome to
- 6:24Speaker 1: Waken and groom. We have animals. We love them, We
- 6:28Speaker 1: love you guys. Deal with it, okay. Anyways, so they're
- 6:31Speaker 1: moving into this new house. It's a dream house, amazing neighborhood.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Right, Okay, it only sounds promising.
- 6:37Speaker 1: It's only forty five minutes from New York. Oh, it's
- 6:41Speaker 1: a bit too like slow lifestyle for like most singles
- 6:44Speaker 1: and stuff, which means the town's thirty thousand residents are
- 6:47Speaker 1: largely like well off families because the're fairly nice houses.
- 6:51Speaker 2: It's to be like a little ways out of a
- 6:52Speaker 2: big city like that.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I think that's perfect. Definitely, definitely. It's like, I don't know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: like a sitcoms, like perfect neighborhood sort of thing. Okay, Okay,
- 7:01Speaker 1: So the Broadesses purchased the house for one point three
- 7:04Speaker 1: million dollars.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Okay, that's a lot of money.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Well, it was one three hundred and fifty five one million,
- 7:09Speaker 1: three hundred fift five thousand, six hundred and fifty seven,
- 7:11Speaker 1: which is an oddly specific number in my opinion, but whatever.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, but house prices are like kind of weird sometimes
- 7:18Speaker 2: how that.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Worked either way, they were overjoyed. This was literally their
- 7:21Speaker 1: dream home. Okay, it was in a familiar neighborhood, as
- 7:24Speaker 1: Maria grew up in the in the sorry Margerie's are
- 7:29Speaker 1: hitting me. She grew up in the neighborhood in a
- 7:32Speaker 1: home only a few blocks away.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Oh that's cool.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And for her husband, Derek, it was like the perfect
- 7:38Speaker 1: place for him to raise his family with his wife's
- 7:41Speaker 1: sort of thing. They had three kids. It was just
- 7:44Speaker 1: everything about it's perfect. And it was perfect to the
- 7:46Speaker 1: point that the kids were even planning which fireplace sent
- 7:49Speaker 1: was going to come down during.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Christmas and the wan fireplace.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and they hadn't even moved in yet. And this
- 7:55Speaker 1: is what the kids are talking about.
- 7:56Speaker 2: This sounds too perfect.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I'm already literally picture perfect.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing's perfect.
- 8:02Speaker 1: So three days after they purchased their new home, Derek
- 8:06Speaker 1: was inside doing some renovations. They hadn't moved in yet, Okay,
- 8:10Speaker 1: so he's inside painting, getting ready for the move. And
- 8:13Speaker 1: Derek kind of finished up and he went outside to
- 8:15Speaker 1: check the mail, and inside he found some letters. You know,
- 8:18Speaker 1: of course it's mail. Yeah, but one letter specifically was
- 8:21Speaker 1: addressed to quote unquote the new owners in chunky letters. Okay,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna give not a warning, but a heads up
- 8:33Speaker 1: to everyone listening. The letters have never actually been fully
- 8:38Speaker 1: published to the public, so we don't fully know what
- 8:42Speaker 1: the letters have said.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I wonder why that is.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It's they just kept him private. And some sections of
- 8:47Speaker 1: the letters have come through via court cases. Okay, okay,
- 8:52Speaker 1: so I've pieced together the letters the best I can.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm sure there's some missing, but here we go. Inside
- 9:01Speaker 1: the envelope was a type note that began with a
- 9:03Speaker 1: warm greeting, dearest neighbors of six five seven Boulevard, allow
- 9:08Speaker 1: me to welcome you to the neighborhood.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's nice.
- 9:11Speaker 1: How did you end up here? Did six five seven
- 9:14Speaker 1: Boulevard call to you with its force? Within? Six five
- 9:18Speaker 1: seven Boulevard has been the subject of my family for
- 9:20Speaker 1: decades now, and as it approaches its one hundred and
- 9:23Speaker 1: tenth birthday, it has been put in charge, sorry, I
- 9:28Speaker 1: have been put in charge of watching and waiting for
- 9:30Speaker 1: its second coming. My grandfather watched the house in the
- 9:33Speaker 1: nineteen twenties, my father watched in the nineteen sixties, and
- 9:37Speaker 1: now it's my time. Do you know the history of
- 9:39Speaker 1: the house? Do you know what lies within the walls
- 9:42Speaker 1: of six five seven Boulevard? Why are you here? I
- 9:46Speaker 1: will find out? Creepy as fuck? Yeah, No, creepy as fuck.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Okay, that has to be like a There has to
- 9:55Speaker 2: be some sort of way for them to get the
- 9:58Speaker 2: fuck out of that new purchase.
- 10:00Speaker 1: No, they bought it, it's theirs.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but okay, if shit wasn't disclosed of this weird history,
- 10:05Speaker 2: you have a house, you're lawyer or you're not your
- 10:08Speaker 2: real turn. Shit can be at fault, can't they.
- 10:10Speaker 1: We go about my mic, we get into a bit
- 10:13Speaker 1: of the history on that. So that's that's to come
- 10:16Speaker 1: up here. Now, however, that's not the end letter. That's
- 10:20Speaker 1: only like one third of it. So to continue on,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I see already that you have flooded six five seven
- 10:27Speaker 1: Boulevard with contractors, so you can destroy the house as
- 10:31Speaker 1: it was supposed to be. Tusk tisk tisk.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Wow the judgment there, bad move.
- 10:37Speaker 1: You don't want to you don't want to make six
- 10:39Speaker 1: five seven boulevard. Unhappy you have children? I have seen
- 10:44Speaker 1: them so far. I think there are three that have
- 10:47Speaker 1: that I have counted. Are there more on the way?
- 10:50Speaker 1: I have asked the woods to bring me young blood,
- 10:52Speaker 1: and it looks like they listened. Do you need to
- 10:55Speaker 1: fill the house with young blood as I requested? Better
- 10:58Speaker 1: for me? Was your old old house too small for
- 11:01Speaker 1: the growing family? Bless you? First way to go? You
- 11:08Speaker 1: just ruined the ambiance? Good, It's all good? Okay? Where
- 11:14Speaker 1: was I? Was your old house too small for the
- 11:16Speaker 1: growing family? Or was it greed? Or was it greed?
- 11:20Speaker 1: To bring me your children? Once I know their names,
- 11:22Speaker 1: I will call to them and draw them to me. Oh,
- 11:28Speaker 1: last little bit of letter? Ready for this?
- 11:30Speaker 2: No, I already hate the letter.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Oh it's weird. I would be like one weird thing is?
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's like so formal and well written, not necessarily well written,
- 11:39Speaker 1: but very formal and like almost old English and very.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yeah I did, actually it was like kind of old fashioned.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Who am I? There are hundreds and hundreds of cars
- 11:48Speaker 1: that drive by six fifty seven Boulevard each day? Maybe
- 11:52Speaker 1: I am in one. Look at all the windows you
- 11:54Speaker 1: can see from six five seven Boulevard. Maybe I am
- 11:58Speaker 1: in one look out any of the many windows in
- 12:01Speaker 1: six five seven Boulevard, Boulevard, at all the people who
- 12:05Speaker 1: stroll by each day. Maybe I am one have a
- 12:09Speaker 1: happy moving in day. You know I will be watching Wow, Welcome,
- 12:14Speaker 1: Let the party begin, signed at the end in a
- 12:17Speaker 1: cursive typed font, not hand signed the watcher.
- 12:22Speaker 2: The watcher. Okay, I would honestly feel like, I don't know,
- 12:26Speaker 2: you'd be only Cloud nine. You're just mooed into this
- 12:29Speaker 2: awesome house, like your dream house. I'd probably be like, oh,
- 12:31Speaker 2: this is like a prank. Most like I would go
- 12:34Speaker 2: there and be like, oh, this is so real. I mean,
- 12:36Speaker 2: i'd probably be a little nervous, but I think I
- 12:37Speaker 2: would more so just like think it's a prank.
- 12:39Speaker 1: But there are still some details about that. They've they've
- 12:42Speaker 1: seen your three kids, which right away, for any parent,
- 12:44Speaker 1: your kids are most likely going to be your priority
- 12:46Speaker 1: to protect. Yeah, so that's a big red flag there. Second,
- 12:51Speaker 1: they the person did know the family prior to because
- 12:53Speaker 1: he mentioned the Woods, which is the prior family, the
- 12:56Speaker 1: Woods family, Like.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Okay, what do you mean the family before these?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Yes, who moved out and sold the house to the
- 13:02Speaker 1: new family.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Their last name is okay, okay.
- 13:05Speaker 1: So he referenced them. So he knows the Woods or
- 13:08Speaker 1: at least their name, and he knows that these people
- 13:11Speaker 1: are bringing in contractors and have three kids. So he
- 13:15Speaker 1: clearly is whether it's a prank. He clearly is watching
- 13:18Speaker 1: to some degree.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I guess I want to know why the Woods people moved.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I hope you're going to go over that. Well, let's
- 13:25Speaker 2: keep going, Okay, yeah, I am.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So when Derek read this letter, it was after about
- 13:30Speaker 1: ten pm, and Derek's wife and the kids were currently
- 13:33Speaker 1: at their old house elsewhere in Westfield, you know, getting
- 13:36Speaker 1: ready to move in certain thing. All right, Sorry, it
- 13:39Speaker 1: wasn't elsewhere in Westfield. They were elsewhere while in Westfield
- 13:43Speaker 1: he was there. Sorry I wrote that.
- 13:44Speaker 2: Weird, No, it makes sense.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So somewhere else. So the watcher was watching, potentially even
- 13:50Speaker 1: watching Derek read the letter.
- 13:52Speaker 2: On his front hand. That's kind of creepy.
- 13:55Speaker 1: So Derek immediately went inside the house, raced around, turning
- 13:58Speaker 1: off all the lights that no one could see, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: he called the Westfield police right away.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Oh so this like really got to him?
- 14:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, definitely.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:07Speaker 1: An officer immediately arrived to the house read the letter
- 14:10Speaker 1: and said, quote unquote, what the fuck is this? Best
- 14:14Speaker 1: response for a police officer for what the fuck is this?
- 14:17Speaker 1: That's my kind of police officer.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I love it, just getting down to it. I love it.
- 14:22Speaker 2: That's funny.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So he asked Derek if he had any enemies, and
- 14:25Speaker 1: as far as Derek knew, he didn't, which I mean,
- 14:29Speaker 1: most people don't think they have enemies.
- 14:30Speaker 2: But who knows, right, Yeah, you never really know, I guess.
- 14:33Speaker 1: So Derek rushed back to his wife and kids that night,
- 14:35Speaker 1: and he and his wife Maria wrote an email to
- 14:38Speaker 1: John and Andrea Woods, the previous owners of.
- 14:41Speaker 2: The property, and we're like, what the shit?
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yep, pretty much. Well I don't think they were aggressive
- 14:46Speaker 1: about it, but they were questioning, right, Well, yeah, I
- 14:48Speaker 1: would be. So the previous owners were an older couple
- 14:51Speaker 1: and it doesn't say why they moved out. I'm assuming
- 14:53Speaker 1: it's most likely downsizing or.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Something like that.
- 14:56Speaker 1: So they were an older couple who previously owned the
- 14:58Speaker 1: property before him, and you know, like I said, I
- 15:01Speaker 1: recently sold. But in an email, they asked the couple
- 15:03Speaker 1: if they had any idea who the watcher might be
- 15:05Speaker 1: and why he had written the letter and quote to Derek,
- 15:10Speaker 1: I had asked the Woods. Sorry, not quote to Derek,
- 15:13Speaker 1: quote to the Watcher, because specifically in there, I had
- 15:16Speaker 1: asked the Woods to bring me young blood. And it
- 15:18Speaker 1: looks like they listened right, oh right, So clearly it
- 15:22Speaker 1: might tie the Woods. They might have an idea. So
- 15:26Speaker 1: the next morning they actually received a reply from Andrea Woods,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and a few days before moving out of the house,
- 15:34Speaker 1: she said that they had also received a letter from
- 15:37Speaker 1: the Watcher. She said the note had been odd, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: she said that there is never any or sorry why
- 15:45Speaker 1: jumped ahead? Do do do do do do?
- 15:50Speaker 2: Do?
- 15:51Speaker 1: Okay, So she said the note was odd and it
- 15:53Speaker 1: made similar mention of the Watcher's family observing the house
- 15:57Speaker 1: over time. But Andrea said her and her husband never
- 15:59Speaker 1: received anything in the twenty three years of living in
- 16:02Speaker 1: the house.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I think that's bullshit. I don't believe that.
- 16:07Speaker 1: She said that her and her husband, once they received
- 16:09Speaker 1: it before moving out of the house, just dismissed the
- 16:13Speaker 1: letter as like you said, a prank and just turfed
- 16:16Speaker 1: the letter.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I just feel that's very weird that these people instantly
- 16:20Speaker 2: move in, instantly get a letter, but then those other
- 16:23Speaker 2: people are there for twenty three years and one letter.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Yeah. No, so, but it could just be this new
- 16:31Speaker 1: watcher because he said his father watched it before him,
- 16:34Speaker 1: his grandfather watched before him. It could just be that
- 16:36Speaker 1: this watcher who's now taking over the air of watching
- 16:40Speaker 1: six fifty seven Boulevard is just anxious.
- 16:43Speaker 2: And I guess or it came like maybe they saw
- 16:47Speaker 2: Ittless did.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Maybe or something. Who knows what, why, how, where, everything,
- 16:56Speaker 1: But this is a situation we are in.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So cool.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Yeah. So the woods Is were more happy, more than
- 17:04Speaker 1: happy to actually help out with Derek and Maria and
- 17:08Speaker 1: do whatever they needed to talk to police or whatever.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Okay, well that's good.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah. So later that day they went down to the
- 17:14Speaker 1: police station where Detective Leonard Lugo joined the case and
- 17:19Speaker 1: listened to what they had to say.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Good name, pronunciation, thank you.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I appreciate that. I tried really hard to tell.
- 17:26Speaker 2: If someone was watching you right now, they would know
- 17:28Speaker 2: you were trying.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Well. The moment I tried to say the name, like
- 17:30Speaker 1: my posture went up, shoulders back, and I'm like, I
- 17:33Speaker 1: got this, like goose frob a own meditating beforehand, just
- 17:39Speaker 1: to get it right. Okay. Anyways, so after talking for
- 17:44Speaker 1: a while about the house and the letters quote unquote
- 17:47Speaker 1: the watcher. Sorry end quote unquote the watcher. I'm getting
- 17:51Speaker 1: mixed up today, sorry, guys. So the investigator, Leonard told
- 17:58Speaker 1: Maria and Derek and the Woods, is not to tell
- 18:01Speaker 1: anyone about these letters, including any neighbors, to keep it hush, hush,
- 18:06Speaker 1: quiet under the radar.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Okay, at first, it's like, what the frig? But that
- 18:11Speaker 2: makes sense actually, well because.
- 18:13Speaker 1: As of right now, all of the neighbors were now suspects,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and I didn't want to give away any idea of
- 18:19Speaker 1: the investigation occurring to a potential watcher, right exactly. Yeah,
- 18:24Speaker 1: So there was no if nothing was reported, no change
- 18:28Speaker 1: in any behaviors, there's no reason for any observing habits
- 18:32Speaker 1: of the watcher to change, potential letters to change. So
- 18:35Speaker 1: it might give the investigators a heads up to maybe
- 18:38Speaker 1: catch them in the act.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Right. I honestly love how like everyone's taking this so seriously,
- 18:43Speaker 2: which is like the police and everything, because sometimes, like
- 18:46Speaker 2: even fucked up cases we've been doing, yes, they don't
- 18:49Speaker 2: take that shit seriously.
- 18:51Speaker 1: It's very refreshing to hear them actually take something seriously.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I get not that they don't usually, but just like
- 18:57Speaker 2: a lot of our really messed up cases, Like there's
- 19:00Speaker 2: been serious warnings and like people could have been saved
- 19:05Speaker 2: and they don't. They're not.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah, so right off the bat, they're taking this serious.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm actually like really like wow.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So it's a nice change of pace for sure. Okay,
- 19:15Speaker 1: where am I here? Now?
- 19:16Speaker 2: I got off my chart?
- 19:18Speaker 1: You did? Okay? So the Broadest has spent the next
- 19:21Speaker 1: couple of weeks on of course, high alert, and Derek
- 19:24Speaker 1: canceled a work trip and whenever Maria took the kids
- 19:27Speaker 1: to the new house, she would make sure the kids
- 19:29Speaker 1: stayed closed and never wandered into any corners of the yard.
- 19:33Speaker 1: They took precautions when necessary.
- 19:35Speaker 2: Such a shitty way to enter into this new chapter
- 19:37Speaker 2: your life, I know.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Right, kind of sucks. It gets worse. Wait.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Cool.
- 19:44Speaker 1: There was actually one intant incident when Derek was giving
- 19:47Speaker 1: a tour of the renovations to a couple who lived
- 19:50Speaker 1: on the block. He froze like instantly when the wife
- 19:54Speaker 1: of the couple said, quote unquote, it'll be nice to
- 19:57Speaker 1: have some young blood in the neighborhood. Yeah. That never
- 20:03Speaker 1: like it. It didn't make out anything like it's it's
- 20:08Speaker 1: a saying and it's just like, wait, what what'd you
- 20:11Speaker 1: just fucking say?
- 20:12Speaker 2: That is funny?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah. So anyways, two weeks after the initial letter arrived,
- 20:18Speaker 1: Maria stopped by the house to look at some paint
- 20:20Speaker 1: samples and check the mail.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Woo, don't I would just probably actually avoid checking the mail,
- 20:26Speaker 2: I know, right, not gonna lie.
- 20:28Speaker 1: So when she opened the mailbox inside she found another
- 20:31Speaker 1: letter with the same thick, chunky black lettering on the envelope.
- 20:36Speaker 1: This time, however, it was addressed to them directly by name, Oh,
- 20:40Speaker 1: mister and missus Broadus. However, it was misspelled because Broadess
- 20:45Speaker 1: is b r O A d d us and this
- 20:48Speaker 1: was spelled b r A d d us.
- 20:51Speaker 2: So he did his homework, but he didn't do his home.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Well, he probably heard the name brought.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Us and what does that mean?
- 20:58Speaker 1: Heard he's listening that's where exactly where? How?
- 21:04Speaker 2: Oh God?
- 21:06Speaker 1: But that that's one thing that could be guessed. He
- 21:08Speaker 1: might have misspelled it because he never saw it spelled.
- 21:11Speaker 1: He only heard the name.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Okay, I don't love that actually at all.
- 21:16Speaker 1: You're not going to love anything about this case.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean, okay, if someone's watching you from afar,
- 21:21Speaker 2: it feels a little bit more Okay, than if they like,
- 21:23Speaker 2: I can hear what the fuck you're saying in your house?
- 21:26Speaker 1: Oh just wait until she reads this letter.
- 21:28Speaker 2: I feel like people wouldn't listen to us very long
- 21:30Speaker 2: because we're fucked up sometimes. What we're talking about in
- 21:34Speaker 2: our house.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And some of the things we do is just really like,
- 21:37Speaker 1: oh lord, oh he came home margaritas and a monkey ones.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah. I literally walk in the door and I didn't
- 21:44Speaker 2: even question it. Really. I was making a tick like, oh,
- 21:46Speaker 2: you're living your best life.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Eh, I was making a TikTok If anyone wants to
- 21:50Speaker 1: follow me on TikTok official Ben Gibson.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I do, my gosh. Yeah, never a bull moment here anyways.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So immediately Maria called the police. So there were some
- 22:01Speaker 1: things about this letter that I found information, but not
- 22:03Speaker 1: specific quotes, Like, like I said, we don't have all
- 22:06Speaker 1: the information on these letters, right. So there's one quote.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I don't know where it goes within this letter. So
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'm going to read this quote prior to the letter
- 22:14Speaker 1: and omit it during the letter, Okay, So just everyone's
- 22:17Speaker 1: aware of that. So the watcher actually in this letter
- 22:20Speaker 1: boasted having learned a lot about the family, especially the children.
- 22:26Speaker 1: The letter identified the Broadesses the three kids by their
- 22:29Speaker 1: birth order and their names and their nicknames, their personal
- 22:34Speaker 1: nicknames they are called from their parents in their home.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, shit got real. Yes the letter, now it's
- 22:44Speaker 2: not a prank anymore if.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Someone is definitely watching and listening. The letter even asked
- 22:50Speaker 1: about one child in particular. The watcher had seen them
- 22:53Speaker 1: using an easel to paint inside an enclosed porch. And
- 22:57Speaker 1: this is the quote that I'm on from the letter
- 23:00Speaker 1: where he asks is she the artists in the family?
- 23:04Speaker 1: He watched her, he saw her. He I didn't find
- 23:07Speaker 1: the quote on it, but he did mention seeing her
- 23:10Speaker 1: using the easel gee and then asked is she the
- 23:13Speaker 1: artist in the family. So this particularly made the Broadestes
- 23:17Speaker 1: feel uneasy. The porch in question was the front porch,
- 23:21Speaker 1: and the view from the street was blocked by bushes.
- 23:24Speaker 1: You can't see from the street.
- 23:27Speaker 2: View really really really.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Really meaning the only way the watcher actually could have
- 23:34Speaker 1: seen was if he was beside the house.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Oh God, I hope they've set up cameras and shit,
- 23:42Speaker 2: they definitely do.
- 23:43Speaker 1: I don't mention it in this podcast because it's kind.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Of information I would have fucking cameras lining in my hole.
- 23:49Speaker 1: God, down there, they set up cameras, and then they
- 23:51Speaker 1: set up more cameras, and then they set up more cameras.
- 23:53Speaker 2: So yeah, I would even have strings around with like
- 23:57Speaker 2: cans and shit. So if my name someone.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Was coming up archaic technology, I love it. He's going
- 24:03Speaker 1: to be watching for cameras. He's not going to watch
- 24:05Speaker 1: for cancast man. Okay, So I don't have any other
- 24:10Speaker 1: of that particular information in that quote, But let's get
- 24:12Speaker 1: into the letter.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Cat.
- 24:14Speaker 1: So the letter read, welcome again to your new home
- 24:18Speaker 1: at six fifty seven Boulevard. The workers have been busy,
- 24:22Speaker 1: and I have been watching you unload carfuls of your
- 24:24Speaker 1: personal belongings. The dumpster is a nice touch. Have you
- 24:29Speaker 1: found what is in the walls yet? In time they will.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I am pleased to know your names now, and the
- 24:37Speaker 1: name of the young blood you have brought me. You
- 24:40Speaker 1: certainly say their names often.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Well, yeah, they're your children. Yeah, what a weirdo.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Six point fifty seven Boulevard is anxious for me for
- 24:49Speaker 1: you to move in. It has been years and years
- 24:52Speaker 1: since the young blood ruled the halls of the house.
- 24:56Speaker 1: You have found all the secrets it holds. Yet will
- 24:59Speaker 1: the young blood play in the basement? Are they too
- 25:02Speaker 1: afraid to go down there alone? Well, now they are
- 25:05Speaker 1: just wait till this. I would be very afraid if
- 25:09Speaker 1: I were them. It is far away from the rest
- 25:12Speaker 1: of the house. If you were upstairs, you would never
- 25:15Speaker 1: hear their screams. What Yeah, Okay, I'm going to continue.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna try to get through the rest of this
- 25:23Speaker 1: letter without you like.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Okay, sorry, I've cover my mouth.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Okay, ready, yeah, we gotta get the dramatic floor covering
- 25:31Speaker 1: my mouth? Go okay? Will they sleep in the attic
- 25:34Speaker 1: or will you all sleep on the second floor? Who
- 25:37Speaker 1: has the bedroom facing the street? I'll know as soon
- 25:40Speaker 1: as you move in. It will help me to know
- 25:42Speaker 1: who is in which bedroom. Then I can plan better.
- 25:47Speaker 1: All of the windows and doors and six fifty seven
- 25:49Speaker 1: Boulevard allow me to watch you and track you as
- 25:52Speaker 1: you move through the house. Who am I? I am
- 25:55Speaker 1: the watcher and I have been in control of six
- 25:57Speaker 1: fifty seven Boulevard for the better part of two decades now.
- 26:02Speaker 1: The Woods family turned it over to you. It was
- 26:05Speaker 1: their time to move on and kindly sold it When
- 26:07Speaker 1: I asked them to I passed by many times a day.
- 26:12Speaker 1: Six fifty seven Boulevard is my job, my life, my obsession,
- 26:17Speaker 1: and now you are too brought. And now you are
- 26:19Speaker 1: too brought his family, Sorry for that. Welcome to the
- 26:23Speaker 1: product of your greed. Greed is what brought you in
- 26:26Speaker 1: the past three families to six fifty seven Boulevard, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: now it has brought you to me. Happy moving in date.
- 26:34Speaker 1: You know I will be watching.
- 26:38Speaker 2: What the frig Yeah, that's messed up shit.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I think this guy has a bit of a complex though,
- 26:45Speaker 1: because he's like really starting to boast and like push
- 26:48Speaker 1: himself up.
- 26:50Speaker 2: I think he's an asshole.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I think there's some stuff that he's saying that is
- 26:53Speaker 1: like far beyond like yeah, okay, he's definitely creeping the over.
- 26:57Speaker 2: He sounds like he's probably a good writer, definitely.
- 27:00Speaker 1: But he's creeping in on this family. He's hearing some things,
- 27:02Speaker 1: he's seeing some things. He's definitely getting close. But I
- 27:04Speaker 1: think he's like starting to like get full of himself
- 27:07Speaker 1: and just say more than he has power to. Like,
- 27:10Speaker 1: the Woods sold the house when I told them to.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I don't Yeah, that's why I was like, oh, but
- 27:15Speaker 2: I thought they've only had one letter. Mm hm, but yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 2: like he's just saying he manifest is that shit?
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. I'm calling fucking total bullshit on that.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Unless the Watcher is listening to this podcast and he's
- 27:28Speaker 1: gonna come creep on us, then I am so sorry.
- 27:30Speaker 1: You're all powerful, all hail the Watcher, fuck.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Him, Fuck you Watcher. Does that just mean that they
- 27:38Speaker 2: didn't they even't found this guy? Did you just give
- 27:41Speaker 2: us a bomb?
- 27:42Speaker 1: This is a case?
- 27:43Speaker 2: Oh shit, you and your unsolved shit?
- 27:46Speaker 1: Sorry, sorry, done with that. Actually I dropped a hint
- 27:50Speaker 1: earlier too.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Oh well, I just got this one. I'm tired and
- 27:53Speaker 2: I'm drinking margarite.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Actually earlier I dropped it on purpose. This one, I
- 27:57Speaker 1: didn't mean to drop it.
- 27:58Speaker 2: There, so that's my bad and I caught it.
- 28:00Speaker 1: But even still, this is an unsolved case. But it's
- 28:03Speaker 1: it's just crazy how this goes, so it's worth listening
- 28:06Speaker 1: in dang so with a new letter clearly showing some
- 28:11Speaker 1: someone like in fact watching them, right, like someone is watching.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Like they know some things for sure.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's not just it's not just a prank. Yeah,
- 28:20Speaker 1: everything became like a little too real at this point,
- 28:22Speaker 1: bringing a letter with that information. So Derek and Maria
- 28:25Speaker 1: decided not to visit the house for a while, not
- 28:28Speaker 1: move in, and they kept their kids away from whoever
- 28:31Speaker 1: was watching.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Dang though, like sometimes you wouldn't have that opportunity. If
- 28:35Speaker 2: you have your other house has sold, no.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Right, so huh. So with lack of activity at the house,
- 28:41Speaker 1: a third letter arrived.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Oh shitt on, we just jumped up hike, we got
- 28:49Speaker 2: to go back.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Okay. So the third letter is a little bit shorter,
- 28:52Speaker 1: and it goes like this, where have you gone to?
- 28:55Speaker 1: Six fifty seven Boulevard is missing you. The house is
- 28:58Speaker 1: crying from all of the pain it is going through.
- 29:01Speaker 1: You have changed it and made it so fancy. You
- 29:03Speaker 1: are stealing its history. It cries for the past and
- 29:07Speaker 1: what it used to be in the time when I
- 29:09Speaker 1: roamed its halls. The nineteen sixties were a good time
- 29:12Speaker 1: for six fifty seven Boulevard, when I ran from room
- 29:16Speaker 1: to room, imagining the life with the rich occupants there.
- 29:20Speaker 1: The house was full of life and young blood when
- 29:24Speaker 1: it got old, and so did my father. Sorry, then
- 29:27Speaker 1: it got old sold my father, but he kept watching
- 29:30Speaker 1: until the day he died. And now I watch and
- 29:33Speaker 1: wait for the day the young Blood will be mine again.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Six point fifty seven Boulevard is turning on me. It
- 29:40Speaker 1: is coming after me. I don't understand why. What spell
- 29:44Speaker 1: did you cast on it? It used to be my friend,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and now it is my enemy. I am in charge
- 29:49Speaker 1: of six point fifty seven Boulevard. It is not in
- 29:52Speaker 1: charge of me. I will fend off its bad things
- 29:55Speaker 1: and wait for it to become good again. I will
- 29:57Speaker 1: not punish it will not punish me. I will rise again.
- 30:01Speaker 1: I will be patient and wait for it to pass.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I messed that sentence up. Sorry, I'm not a reader
- 30:08Speaker 1: like this. This is weird for me. I will be
- 30:11Speaker 1: patient and wait for this to pass and for you
- 30:14Speaker 1: to bring me the young Blood back back to me.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Six fifty seven Boulevard needs young blood. It needs you
- 30:21Speaker 1: come back. Let the young Blood play again like I
- 30:24Speaker 1: once did. Let the young Blood sleep in six fifty
- 30:28Speaker 1: seven Boulevard. Stop changing it and let it alone.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Okay. I think there were some tidbits in there though,
- 30:35Speaker 2: that they could do some serious mo ful research.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Potentially, yes, dude, potentially.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Because he was a child living there in the nineteen sixties.
- 30:44Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no no, listen, closely. Okay, he
- 30:47Speaker 1: did not live there.
- 30:48Speaker 2: He was like, oh so he was like a friend
- 30:50Speaker 2: and shit, okay, because you did say something about he
- 30:53Speaker 2: dream about the like rich people or something.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I lived there so in the nineteenth the nineteen sixties
- 31:00Speaker 1: were a good time for six fifty seven Boulevard when
- 31:03Speaker 1: I ran from room to room imagining the life with
- 31:07Speaker 1: the rich occupants there.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Oh so it was just like a friend or.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Like maybe he wasn't even welcome in the house and
- 31:14Speaker 1: he just snuck in.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Oh okay, well that's not helpful at all then, So
- 31:20Speaker 2: it was like, you could research this, let's.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Do it right. However, there is one little bit of
- 31:25Speaker 1: information in here that might be key. He said that
- 31:31Speaker 1: his dad he took over twenty years. He's been watching
- 31:34Speaker 1: for about twenty years when his father passed away. So
- 31:37Speaker 1: that might be of importance because now we have a
- 31:39Speaker 1: timeline for when the previous quote unquote watcher had passed away.
- 31:45Speaker 1: So that might be a piece of.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Information, I guess. Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 1: So yeah, the letter had literally drove the family though
- 31:54Speaker 1: to putting all moving plans like on hold and on
- 31:57Speaker 1: the back brand.
- 31:58Speaker 2: That's so that just sucks. That's a lot of money.
- 32:01Speaker 2: They dropped into this house.
- 32:03Speaker 1: It definitely is. But luckily though, like you said, a
- 32:06Speaker 1: lot of people don't have that luxury of just going
- 32:08Speaker 1: back to their old house. Well yeah, honestly neither did
- 32:10Speaker 1: this family. They actually ended up moving in with Maria's parents.
- 32:14Speaker 1: While the investigators tried to sing.
- 32:17Speaker 2: It so, yeah, I feel bad for them. Nightmare it is.
- 32:23Speaker 1: It really is. And while investigators were looking into seeing
- 32:26Speaker 1: who this watcher is, the problem was there was like
- 32:29Speaker 1: so little evidence to go on. In fact, like, other
- 32:32Speaker 1: than the letters, they had literally nothing to tie anyone
- 32:36Speaker 1: to anything, and the investigators were just at a straight
- 32:39Speaker 1: dead end.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Yeah, this guy seems like he's smart, girl or guy.
- 32:43Speaker 2: I don't know why I was assuming it's a dude.
- 32:45Speaker 1: It could be a watcher, Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Could definitely be a female too, So some females are smarter.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Oh really, you're gonna go there? Just wow, Wow, you're
- 32:58Speaker 1: just playing to our demograph.
- 33:00Speaker 2: I know. Actually I felt okay saying that because more
- 33:03Speaker 2: majority of people listening aren't females.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Thanks, way to turn the tide.
- 33:07Speaker 2: You're outnumbered.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Well I'm in charge of this case, so shut you
- 33:11Speaker 1: a pieh hole. Anyways, moving on, let's not get this
- 33:17Speaker 1: sexist attitude in here.
- 33:20Speaker 2: God, there's a joke.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Move on, I am moving on.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Good, let's do it.
- 33:24Speaker 1: No, now, I don't want to You're like, don't tell
- 33:28Speaker 1: me what to do. Okay, moving on. Okay, So some
- 33:32Speaker 1: suspects did turn up, however, Okay, Derek learned about an
- 33:36Speaker 1: eccentric family who lived next door, the Langfords. The family
- 33:40Speaker 1: consisted of mother Peggy Langford and several of her adult children,
- 33:45Speaker 1: who were middle aged, and the family had a long
- 33:48Speaker 1: history in the area. In fact, they lived in the
- 33:50Speaker 1: neighborhood house since the sixties, which is when the watcher
- 33:54Speaker 1: claimed his father watched the house.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 33:59Speaker 1: Okay, so Derek began to suspect sixty year old Michael
- 34:03Speaker 1: Langford shortly after receiving the first letter, But detectives said
- 34:07Speaker 1: that the Langford family's reputation had already been known, and
- 34:11Speaker 1: though they were an odd family, they were harmless and
- 34:13Speaker 1: caused no trouble for anyone. However, even though they kind
- 34:18Speaker 1: of brushed off the Langfords, they were already a step
- 34:22Speaker 1: ahead of Derek and already questioned them.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Okay, so they're doing a good.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Job here, They're doing their due diligence for sure, Yeah,
- 34:29Speaker 1: I like this. So the detective said that Michael denied
- 34:33Speaker 1: all knowledge of the letters, and that his speaking manner
- 34:36Speaker 1: and mental disorders convinced the detectives he was not able
- 34:40Speaker 1: to write the letters in the same fashion as the watcher. Okay,
- 34:45Speaker 1: so just like that very proper old English formal sort
- 34:50Speaker 1: of writing.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Style come naturally to like a lot of people.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Probably definitely not so they're convinced it wasn't Michael Langford.
- 34:58Speaker 1: But I do want to point out and Derek is
- 35:00Speaker 1: still to this day, convinced that it was Michael Langford.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Really Okay, but he could have been putting an act
- 35:05Speaker 2: on too when he was talking to the police.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Definitely, But Michael's father is dead, okay, mister Langford, Peggy's husband,
- 35:17Speaker 1: he's no longer alive. So it could be that he
- 35:21Speaker 1: was the one watching in the sixties.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Well, and it could very much so he could easily
- 35:25Speaker 2: have access to see like the front porch and like
- 35:28Speaker 2: just being the neighbor and stuff, you know.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Regardless of lack of evidence was a theme to go
- 35:34Speaker 1: with like basically everything in this case. And other than
- 35:36Speaker 1: like some letters that investigators had, they had nothing, no fingerprints, handwriting,
- 35:42Speaker 1: DNA photographs, motives like literally no useful information of any
- 35:47Speaker 1: sort to point them in the right direction. So it's
- 35:50Speaker 1: brought on a slew of suspects, including like all surrounding
- 35:54Speaker 1: neighbors that I mentioned earlier, a teen boy who just
- 35:57Speaker 1: so happened to pull over on the side of the
- 35:59Speaker 1: road in front of the house, whose girlfriend lived in
- 36:02Speaker 1: the neighborhood. The list, like literally goes on, but it
- 36:05Speaker 1: gets more obscure the farther you dive into it. So
- 36:07Speaker 1: none of those suspects I'm even going to bother touching
- 36:09Speaker 1: on because it's just such a stretch that we're it's
- 36:13Speaker 1: not worth it.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Okay, that's fair, But I also have to say, this
- 36:16Speaker 2: is such a shitty way to get introduced to your neighbors. Hey, right,
- 36:21Speaker 2: I'm just thinking about this, like eventually if they move in. Yeah,
- 36:24Speaker 2: all their neighbors have been accused of like harassing them.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Oh definitely that sucks. So all the while, though the
- 36:31Speaker 1: broadest family were feeling the heavy burden of the house
- 36:33Speaker 1: and of course the letters. Derek was suffering from depression,
- 36:37Speaker 1: Maria was diagnosed with PTSD. The financial struggle of the home,
- 36:41Speaker 1: the kids not understanding what was going on weighing down
- 36:44Speaker 1: on them day after day. It's just this heavy, heavy,
- 36:49Speaker 1: heavy burden. The idea of selling the home was long gone, however,
- 36:55Speaker 1: as news of six point fifty seven Boulevard and the
- 36:57Speaker 1: Watcher had made its way to the public.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Oh, because I was like, they need to just sell.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's no longer viable. People weren't interested. New sources
- 37:08Speaker 1: cover the story. The Internet became obsessed with the story.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Anytime someone would become interested in the house because they
- 37:15Speaker 1: did put it up for sale, they would quickly back
- 37:17Speaker 1: out of the deal once they were legally granted access
- 37:21Speaker 1: to read the letters before purchasing.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Oh, because they had to like disclose that yep, So.
- 37:27Speaker 1: They would get the letters to read and right away
- 37:29Speaker 1: they would back out and rightfully.
- 37:31Speaker 2: So well, yeah, I wonder like okay, because they could
- 37:34Speaker 2: probably also googled it, but like I've never googled a
- 37:38Speaker 2: home address if I moved, and now I'm going to
- 37:41Speaker 2: for sure?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Yeah, right, it's a good idea. Yeah, sorry, I got it.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Yikest here your devis to be a munga reata. I
- 37:52Speaker 2: have left good hands here. I love it.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Who I got to work in.
- 37:59Speaker 2: The morning, Yeah you do.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Okay, So eventually though, selling it's just clearly not on
- 38:06Speaker 1: the table. The Broadnesses came up with an idea that
- 38:09Speaker 1: could end it all.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Okay, let's hear it.
- 38:12Speaker 1: What if they demolished the house and what if they
- 38:14Speaker 1: split the property into two lots and erect two homes.
- 38:19Speaker 1: This would they would seem to break even financially, Yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 2: But that would really piss them off.
- 38:24Speaker 1: But they would no longer be six fifty seven Boulevard
- 38:27Speaker 1: and no house for the watcher to watch, and no
- 38:29Speaker 1: watcher because which house is going to be six fifty
- 38:31Speaker 1: seven after that? It's not the house is gone, the
- 38:35Speaker 1: property split two new houses, which one is, well, yeah, they.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Should almost have it so that neither of them is
- 38:41Speaker 2: that address. Well exactly, I bet you they could do that.
- 38:44Speaker 1: That's exactly what they said the idea. That was their plan.
- 38:47Speaker 1: It wasn't like anything that they wanted to do. Yeah,
- 38:51Speaker 1: but it was the best plan they had. Financially they'd
- 38:54Speaker 1: break even.
- 38:55Speaker 2: So yeah, I like it. Their thinkers.
- 38:57Speaker 1: That's where they went is applied to have the property
- 39:01Speaker 1: split into two so they can move forward with the plan.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Things quickly came to a halt, however, as the planning
- 39:08Speaker 1: board denied the proposal, as individual property must meet certain
- 39:13Speaker 1: size requirements within the neighborhood of seventy feet wide per lot,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and if they split up the property, each lot would
- 39:22Speaker 1: be drum roll sixty nine feet sixty seven feet three
- 39:27Speaker 1: feet shy of the requirements. Their proposal was unanimously denied.
- 39:32Speaker 2: That's bullshit because they needed to just give it to them.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Just wait to add salt to injury. Later that year,
- 39:40Speaker 1: the board approved another property in the area to split
- 39:43Speaker 1: their lot and it would result in each property being
- 39:47Speaker 1: much less than the even sixty seven feet.
- 39:49Speaker 2: So that motherfucker the Watcher is on that committee. Done.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I just saw the shit.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Oh you think so? Yeah, Well before we get to
- 40:00Speaker 1: the next letter, because there is another one coming up.
- 40:04Speaker 1: Left with little alternative, the family turned to renting out
- 40:06Speaker 1: the house. They need some income somehow.
- 40:09Speaker 2: I'm surprised someone want to rent it.
- 40:11Speaker 1: But okay, well, people needed to be notified of the
- 40:15Speaker 1: Watcher And however, there was a clause that they put
- 40:17Speaker 1: in there that would void the least agreement if another
- 40:20Speaker 1: letter came to the doorstep shortly after the renters moved in.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Another let guy. This one, This letter, though, is different
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's nice.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Maybe no, it's nice, nice to the renters, But no, no, this.
- 40:38Speaker 1: One is filled with a lot more hate, violent winds
- 40:42Speaker 1: and bitter cold to the vile and spiteful Derek and
- 40:46Speaker 1: his wench of a wife, Maria. You wonder who the
- 40:49Speaker 1: Watcher is? Turn around, you idiots. Maybe you even spoke
- 40:53Speaker 1: to me, one of those so called neighbors who has
- 40:56Speaker 1: no idea who the Watcher could be. Or maybe you
- 40:59Speaker 1: know who you are or who I am, and you're
- 41:02Speaker 1: scared to tell anyone. Good move. I walked by the
- 41:06Speaker 1: news trucks when they took over my neighborhood and mocked me.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I watched, as you watch from a dark house, in
- 41:12Speaker 1: an attempt to find me. Telescopes and binoculars are wonderful inventions.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Six fifty seven Boulevard survived your attempted assault and stood
- 41:22Speaker 1: strong with its army of supporters barricading its gates. My
- 41:26Speaker 1: soldiers of the Boulevard followed my orders to a tee.
- 41:30Speaker 1: They carried out their mission and saved six fifty seven
- 41:33Speaker 1: Boulevard with my orders. All hail the Watcher. Maybe a
- 41:39Speaker 1: car accident, maybe a fire, maybe something as simple as
- 41:43Speaker 1: a mild illness that never seems to go away but
- 41:46Speaker 1: makes you feel sick day after day after day after
- 41:49Speaker 1: day after day. Maybe the mysterious death of a pet.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Loved ones suddenly die, planes and cars and bicycles crash,
- 41:59Speaker 1: bones break.
- 42:05Speaker 2: What an asshole.
- 42:06Speaker 1: So, just like you said, he very well could be
- 42:09Speaker 1: controlling the board, and he even said so in this letter.
- 42:12Speaker 2: Okay, but he doesn't have that much power. He's on
- 42:14Speaker 2: the board. I already think I figured this out.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Okay, who is it?
- 42:18Speaker 2: One of the board people, and we need to know
- 42:21Speaker 2: who they are, and then I'll tell you.
- 42:23Speaker 1: I don't know who the board members are, but I'm
- 42:26Speaker 1: sure there's a lot of Like, he just.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Doesn't have this much power. I think, like you said,
- 42:29Speaker 2: he's like full himself.
- 42:31Speaker 1: But I do think that, I definitely think. I mean
- 42:33Speaker 1: he's casting like such a wide net, like maybe a
- 42:36Speaker 1: car accident, maybe a fire, maybe something simple as a
- 42:38Speaker 1: small illness that never seems to go away but makes
- 42:40Speaker 1: you feel sick after Oh no, I have a common cold.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Oh the watcher, that's what that.
- 42:46Speaker 2: They didn't grant them this They're amazing idea. I'm so
- 42:50Speaker 2: upset about that. Yeah, that idea is genius.
- 42:53Speaker 1: It was it was good. Move on them trying to
- 42:55Speaker 1: think that up, but didn't quite pano.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Oh so he's getting angry, he is.
- 43:01Speaker 1: So again, the Broadest family would turn to the police,
- 43:03Speaker 1: and again they would be met with a dead end.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Frustrated and lost, sorry hold on, frustrated and lost with
- 43:11Speaker 1: what to do with the family. They tried to sue
- 43:15Speaker 1: the Woodses really did.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Okay, I don't know if I love that.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Well, the Woodses had received a letter prior.
- 43:22Speaker 2: To and they didn't disclose.
- 43:24Speaker 1: They didn't disclose it, but they held information. We don't
- 43:29Speaker 1: know if it was a bad letter. They dismissed it
- 43:31Speaker 1: and turfed it.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, Okay, this just is turning real mass.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Well, the lawsuit didn't go anywhere. It fell through. It
- 43:38Speaker 1: was kind of null and voyage.
- 43:40Speaker 2: I mean, they are in They're not right either. Like,
- 43:45Speaker 2: I don't know if I love the woods Is either.
- 43:47Speaker 2: But this is just a disaster it is.
- 43:50Speaker 1: There are, however, some allegations that the Broadest family themselves
- 43:55Speaker 1: were the ones to do it.
- 43:56Speaker 2: Oh they like maybe realized that they got themselves in
- 43:59Speaker 2: a situation.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Yeah. However, like a lot of these allegations aren't really
- 44:03Speaker 1: worth mentioning. I'm gonna say that. But the idea mostly
- 44:07Speaker 1: is that The Watcher was a hoax put on by
- 44:09Speaker 1: the family, And there is a bit of noteworthy information here.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Shortly after being denied to split the property up, there
- 44:18Speaker 1: was letters dropped off at the doorstep of every board
- 44:22Speaker 1: members from the Watcher that was very angry, spiteful, hateful,
- 44:29Speaker 1: and Derek admitted it was him who dropped those letters.
- 44:33Speaker 1: He regrets it. He was just pissed off up. So
- 44:37Speaker 1: that leads people like, oh, maybe he was watching ready there,
- 44:41Speaker 1: So maybe it was a play for attention, or maybe
- 44:45Speaker 1: it was potentially gain off media and even sell the
- 44:49Speaker 1: rights for a movie deal to Hollywood. That's one of
- 44:51Speaker 1: the things people are saying. But allegations towards the family
- 44:55Speaker 1: have literally haunted them since the story became public. But
- 44:59Speaker 1: just like before, though, there's there's no evidence, there's no motive,
- 45:02Speaker 1: and there's just no proving any of it.
- 45:04Speaker 2: That would actually be a really good movie.
- 45:07Speaker 1: It would be really good.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Eh.
- 45:08Speaker 1: No, definitely i'd watch that. There is actually a movie
- 45:11Speaker 1: called The Watcher, which I think came out before this,
- 45:13Speaker 1: that starts Keanu reeves, I don't even know what's about.
- 45:16Speaker 1: But so the fourth letter will be the last correspondence
- 45:20Speaker 1: from the Watcher. The house was put back on the
- 45:23Speaker 1: market in March of twenty sixteen, and the Broadest family
- 45:27Speaker 1: was finally able to re sell their home in August
- 45:30Speaker 1: of twenty nineteen for a grand total of how much
- 45:35Speaker 1: nine hundred and sixty thousand.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Okay, that's actually not terrible. It's it's going to be
- 45:40Speaker 2: a lot lower.
- 45:41Speaker 1: But it's a four hundred thousand loss in the property.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Oh is it that much?
- 45:47Speaker 1: Plus inflation though, so that's before inflation, so you're probably
- 45:52Speaker 1: looking at they probably lost close to five hundred.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Grand having when they put some money in for renals and.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Stuff they did, so probably even more.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Okay, I guess that's quite a loss. Yeah, well I
- 46:03Speaker 2: thought it would have not been able to sell for
- 46:06Speaker 2: that much.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, while they have lost well, I mean it's
- 46:10Speaker 1: it's a famous house. There's could be someone interested regardless
- 46:13Speaker 1: of its background. It's famous, right, owning history, owning something
- 46:17Speaker 1: that people will gawk at. Yeah, so, well, they may
- 46:21Speaker 1: not have gained money, they lost money. In fact, they
- 46:25Speaker 1: did gain a lot more. They gained their lives back.
- 46:27Speaker 1: They're free from the senatester actions of the Watcher the
- 46:31Speaker 1: burden of the letters. It's now on someone else, the
- 46:35Speaker 1: new homeowners, right, it's theirs to worry about. However, six
- 46:40Speaker 1: fifty seven Boulevard and its new homeowners have chosen to
- 46:43Speaker 1: stay anonymous.
- 46:45Speaker 2: Oh really, so we have no idea if they've gotten
- 46:48Speaker 2: any letters.
- 46:49Speaker 1: No idea. Oh dang, so as far as we know
- 46:52Speaker 1: that fourth letters could but I doubt they'll they'll.
- 46:57Speaker 2: Uh, they won't tell you.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Yeah, there is there's one final thing, because that's the
- 47:02Speaker 1: end of the story. But there is one final thing
- 47:03Speaker 1: I want to note here. Netflix has actually picked up
- 47:08Speaker 1: the rights to this.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Oh fun.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Uh so, Oh I only have the first name. Shoot,
- 47:14Speaker 1: I thought I had the whole name. Anyways, there's a
- 47:16Speaker 1: producer who works very closely with Netflix and has produced
- 47:19Speaker 1: a lot of different stuff and is very like high regards.
- 47:23Speaker 1: He's producing a seven episode series which each episode will
- 47:26Speaker 1: be one hour in length, and the limited series will
- 47:29Speaker 1: be more akin to like American Horror Story. But he
- 47:32Speaker 1: is going to be covering that and it's going to
- 47:34Speaker 1: be coming out later in twenty twenty one, I believe.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Oh gosh, that's super fun.
- 47:38Speaker 1: So yeah, if you want to see the whole series
- 47:40Speaker 1: on the Watcher on Netflix. Ah, watch out for it.
- 47:44Speaker 1: See what I did there?
- 47:45Speaker 2: I did like. I like it a lot.
- 47:48Speaker 1: So yeah, that is the Watcher of six fifty seven Boulevard.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Okay, I definitely like thought it was gonna be something else.
- 47:54Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie. I thought it was just gonna
- 47:57Speaker 2: be like a lot of different stalking incidents of different people,
- 48:01Speaker 2: not like the same poor family.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and there it was just an onslaught of just
- 48:07Speaker 1: like they don't know what to do. How can you
- 48:10Speaker 1: do anything over there?
- 48:11Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, that's crazy that just like ever buy a
- 48:16Speaker 2: house expensive, just buy a tiny home. You can't get yourself.
- 48:21Speaker 2: You can just move your fucking house. You're good to go.
- 48:23Speaker 1: How did you get that moral from this story? Oh,
- 48:27Speaker 1: these people bought an expensive house. Someone stocked him. Therefore,
- 48:30Speaker 1: don't buy.
- 48:30Speaker 2: An expense buy a tiny youre good to go. That
- 48:33Speaker 2: makes no sense of the story. Wow, Okay, I'm just kidding,
- 48:37Speaker 2: but that actually makes sense because then you don't lose
- 48:40Speaker 2: money if you have to peace, if you could piece
- 48:43Speaker 2: out like that's at one point whatever.
- 48:46Speaker 1: The nice thing about having a tiny home is if
- 48:48Speaker 1: we have a watcher, we can piece out with the house.
- 48:51Speaker 2: Yeah, they're just gonna like hop on the back.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Well, let's hope that doesn't happen.
- 48:57Speaker 2: No, so that's creepy. I do feel really bad for
- 49:00Speaker 2: these people, definitely, so hope. I'm hoping that their life
- 49:04Speaker 2: is okay.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Now, Yeah, our life is going to be okay when
- 49:06Speaker 1: we go to Vancouver and we do the Lydy in
- 49:08Speaker 1: Red episode next week.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Oh can I just like okay? I don't know if
- 49:11Speaker 2: people are like super like. I don't know if we
- 49:14Speaker 2: have a lot of listeners that are into Vancouver, but
- 49:17Speaker 2: like if they have any cool like restaurants or places
- 49:20Speaker 2: to visit, like hit us up.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely working everyone. Actually one hundred.
- 49:25Speaker 2: We're gonna have some free time there. I want to
- 49:26Speaker 2: do some cool stuff.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Yes, there'll be a lot happening on our Instagram and
- 49:29Speaker 1: like I said, YouTube as well, so check that stuff out.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Give us a follow Wicked and Grim and YouTube's actually
