- 0:00Speaker 1: When you hit off with your mates and you'll just
- 0:02Speaker 1: crack gags. I added a lot of color here time
- 0:07Speaker 1: he went to boss level for Barra's fits.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Have some of this Bara.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Is here and Barrow ally was not bad in the
- 0:18Speaker 1: world after all.
- 0:20Speaker 2: No, I mean this is this might sound a bit silly,
- 0:23Speaker 2: but I have had my faith restored in humanity a
- 0:27Speaker 2: little bit when it happened. It is sometimes you can
- 0:31Speaker 2: watch the news and go, oh my godre were going,
- 0:34Speaker 2: you know.
- 0:35Speaker 1: For here stuff.
- 0:36Speaker 2: But people are actually pretty good, and particularly in Western Australia.
- 0:40Speaker 2: And I actually have a column called.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Being Barra. It's in STM you know, Sunday Times, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: I wrote about my dog. So the first.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Incident of this was incidents of this was I wrote
- 0:52Speaker 2: about my dog Frank, who I absolutely love, you know.
- 0:54Speaker 2: And you know, dogs don't care what car you drive,
- 0:58Speaker 2: or what suburbs you live in.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Where they've had a shocker at work or whatever.
- 1:01Speaker 2: When you when you might just go out to put
- 1:04Speaker 2: the bins out and you come back, it's like your
- 1:05Speaker 2: conquered everest, you know, take your back already. Have you
- 1:08Speaker 2: only living creature in the house that is guaranteed to
- 1:11Speaker 2: be happy to see you when you come in the door.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Imagine if you were greeted by your partners like that,
- 1:20Speaker 2: lay off with you, not you as well missed. So
- 1:28Speaker 2: so after that I got lots of feedback from dog
- 1:31Speaker 2: lovers because there's so many great people out there and
- 1:33Speaker 2: noodles and doodles and cavoodles and labradoodles and you know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: everyone's got a noodle on the end of it nowadays.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But and then kelpies and everything else. So that was great.
- 1:42Speaker 1: And then I went for a swim and I saw
- 1:44Speaker 1: this bloke.
- 1:44Speaker 2: And you had a swimming hat on, you know those
- 1:47Speaker 2: rubber hats to.
- 1:48Speaker 1: The swimming cap cap that's swimming.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It's really cold, and it had on it. You'll never
- 1:54Speaker 2: regret a swim. And you know what, he's bloody right.
- 1:59Speaker 2: You think about it. When you get in the water
- 2:01Speaker 2: and you've finished, you just feel so refreshed, and it's.
- 2:04Speaker 1: The exercise afterwards, it's great. You never regret it, do you.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I mean in the middle of summer, it's it's the
- 2:10Speaker 1: anticipation when you start this time of year. This is terrible.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's when you get out there.
- 2:16Speaker 2: You never regret it, and you can remember when being
- 2:19Speaker 2: a kid in the bath, you know where the gold was,
- 2:21Speaker 2: thinking a Jacques Gausta, whatever his name is, remember that
- 2:24Speaker 2: those days.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I remember, Jacques Chris. I don't remember wearing goggles in
- 2:29Speaker 1: the butt, didn't.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Bombing your cousins, getting dumped by waves, you know. So
- 2:35Speaker 2: I'm just talking about water. You never regret a swim.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So that was good.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I love I love the beach.
- 2:40Speaker 2: And then I went and saw the diary of Anne
- 2:42Speaker 2: frank Okay at the heap pretty heavy, and that was confronting.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But you know, have you been to her house in Amsterdam?
- 2:52Speaker 2: No?
- 2:52Speaker 1: I haven't. Yeah, I didn't and I didn't get to it.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's quite remarkable when you go there and you think
- 2:57Speaker 2: about the tiny rooms and you think eight people live there, hiding.
- 3:00Speaker 1: For two years. They hid for two years.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yes, And then she says this line in the play,
- 3:06Speaker 2: and that was written in her book. She says in
- 3:09Speaker 2: spite of everything, So in her diary she wrote, in
- 3:11Speaker 2: spite of everything.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I still believe that people are really good at heart.
- 3:16Speaker 2: And I was thinking, whoa the chance of me saying
- 3:18Speaker 2: that after two years hiding from the Nazis there would
- 3:22Speaker 2: be no chance?
- 3:23Speaker 1: Well, most people were good. It was just only took
- 3:25Speaker 1: a couple not to be.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But she wouldn't have seen I can't anyway. That really
- 3:31Speaker 2: cut through for me.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I was going well. Her perspective was extraordinary.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And then the cap it off my week, Barrow's week,
- 3:37Speaker 2: was I got hold of Andy Brashaw and there was
- 3:41Speaker 2: a lady, her name was Pat Jensen.
- 3:43Speaker 1: She was turning one hundred.
- 3:44Speaker 2: She was the mum of a legend at the Perth
- 3:47Speaker 2: Footy Club and she'd got letters from the King Charles
- 3:51Speaker 2: and you know when you turn one hundred, you get
- 3:53Speaker 2: a heap of stuff that comes to you like it's
- 3:55Speaker 2: really cool. But her absolute highlight was she wanted to
- 3:59Speaker 2: see if for doc would pop in. So I've got
- 4:00Speaker 2: a hold of Andy Brascher, her favorite player anyway. So
- 4:03Speaker 2: he's got full blown training and all that sort of stuff,
- 4:05Speaker 2: and he goes, oh, I've got a window of for
- 4:07Speaker 2: half an hour between one thirty and two, and I said, oh,
- 4:10Speaker 2: that's when she's having a big celebration. Let's drive the
- 4:13Speaker 2: Bull Creek. If you've been to Bull Creek, you know
- 4:15Speaker 2: the big retirement village area there, the rap, the caller Ra,
- 4:19Speaker 2: there's a spitfire aut the front of anyway. We go
- 4:22Speaker 2: in there and he walks in and she's like she's
- 4:26Speaker 2: almost in tears and just made her day.
- 4:29Speaker 1: And then he's he was looking at his watch.
- 4:31Speaker 2: He could tell that he had to get back, but
- 4:32Speaker 2: he spent twenty to thirty minutes and then jump back
- 4:35Speaker 2: in the.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Car and we went back to training. You know, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: just restored my father.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I just thought, you know what, no wonder everyone loves
- 4:41Speaker 2: Andy Brashaw and you know him to take time out
- 4:45Speaker 2: of his day to do that. I thought it was
- 4:46Speaker 2: no cameras, no Instagram, no publiching exactly. It's just a
- 4:51Speaker 2: quality guy on his stat family, the Brayshaw family from
- 4:53Speaker 2: sticks from me and brace saw his granddad absolute legend
- 4:57Speaker 2: ten for forty four for WA and one premiership for
- 5:00Speaker 2: Clermont in sixty four and all the way through. They're
- 5:03Speaker 2: just a quality family. So yeah, so I'm feeling a
- 5:06Speaker 2: bit better about life, mate.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I don't know why. I sort of was feeling a
- 5:09Speaker 1: bit flat.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But there's a lot of good stuff happening out there,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and people are actually pretty good.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All in all. I think you're right, you reckon, Yes,
- 5:19Speaker 1: you will encounter it. Well, no, no know, well no,
- 5:22Speaker 1: I encountered a couple on the freeway in this morning.
- 5:24Speaker 1: That didn't restore my faith in humanity.
- 5:26Speaker 2: But that's that's most that's what happens.
- 5:31Speaker 1: You're back to that place. Yeah, yeah, God gave you
- 5:34Speaker 1: an indicator. God gave you an indicator. Use it. But
- 5:38Speaker 1: I agree with you. Up a few people anyway. There
- 5:41Speaker 1: you go, keep punching.
