Transcript
- 0:01Your air conditioning system is a very important component to your home.
- 0:06I know it is in my home and it seems like the whole earth is getting warmer and warmer.
- 0:14And so I wanna talk about air conditioning because that equipment often in the summertime can run a lot.
- 0:21And I have a question to pose an expert here,
- 0:25Nathan Shafer from Shafer heating and cooling.
- 0:28Hey,
- 0:28Nathan,
- 0:29how are you?
- 0:30Hey,
- 0:30Jim,
- 0:31how are you?
- 0:31I'm doing fantastic.
- 0:33So I've got a question for you that came in here to the radio program and that is,
- 0:37when do I know it's time to replace my air conditioning unit or units?
- 0:43Some people may have one that's six years old and it sounds like a train going down the tracks.
- 0:48Some people may have one that's 18,
- 0:4920 years old and they think it's running fine.
- 0:52So how do they know?
- 0:54Good question.
- 0:55Um And there's several different signs that can lead up to it.
- 0:59And so,
- 1:00uh one thing,
- 1:01I mean,
- 1:01you may be starting to hear different noises,
- 1:04it's sounding louder than it used to.
- 1:07Um,
- 1:07you may be seeing your,
- 1:08your HV AC professional,
- 1:10much more frequently than you would like.
- 1:12Uh,
- 1:12maybe they're there on a,
- 1:14on a pretty regular basis,
- 1:15having to make repairs.
- 1:17Maybe it's nighttime week,
- 1:18so on and so forth,
- 1:19which it's just starting to eat into your pocket deeper and deeper.
- 1:21Uh,
- 1:22maybe,
- 1:23uh,
- 1:23you're seeing an increase in your utility bills.
- 1:26Um,
- 1:26now,
- 1:27that could be a couple of things right now with obviously,
- 1:29um,
- 1:30utility rates on the rise.
- 1:32Um,
- 1:32however,
- 1:33um,
- 1:33aside from that,
- 1:35um,
- 1:35that system could be contributing to a very large portion of your utility increase.
- 1:41Um,
- 1:42and so also too,
- 1:43just the simple age rule of thumb,
- 1:45right,
- 1:45of just time to consider if everything's been taken care of properly and different things.
- 1:50Um,
- 1:51at least ways for our part,
- 1:52uh,
- 1:52of the nation right here and in southern Ohio,
- 1:55uh,
- 1:55consumer reports state that,
- 1:56you know,
- 1:5612 years is the average and that's not saying that every system at 12 years and older should be replaced.
- 2:02Uh,
- 2:02I've seen them much,
- 2:03much younger than that,
- 2:05uh,
- 2:05need to be replaced and also 2030 years old,
- 2:08you know,
- 2:09and replacing them.
- 2:10But that's just the average when you start looking at that cost of ownership,
- 2:14uh,
- 2:14and different things.
- 2:15It's kind of like a knee replacement for someone in their fifties.
- 2:18Um,
- 2:19you know,
- 2:19maybe they can go until 70 or 80.
- 2:21Uh,
- 2:21but maybe they had a lot of injuries when they were in high school and college.
- 2:25Maybe they played football or something and they had to get a replacement in their thirties.
- 2:29My point to this,
- 2:31everybody is that if you take care of your system,
- 2:35it will take care of you over time.
- 2:37It's much like changing the oil and other fluids in your car.
- 2:41If you get your system maintained,
- 2:44it can last longer.
- 2:46But I'm pretty sure Nathan,
- 2:48the system will get to a point if it's been neglected and abused where it just doesn't make sense to try to maintain it anymore.
- 2:56100%.
- 2:57Yeah,
- 2:57you,
- 2:57you hit a certain point.
- 2:59If it's been neglected and abuse,
- 3:00you're gonna hit some really large repairs or,
- 3:03or a bunch of small repairs where it's just,
- 3:05I mean,
- 3:05it's just,
- 3:06it's crazy to keep putting that money,
- 3:08good money into something where you're not getting that return back out of it.
- 3:11Um Like you mentioned,
- 3:12you know,
- 3:13taking care of that system,
- 3:14good maintenance.
- 3:15Um You know,
- 3:16our,
- 3:16our club members were out there twice a year so,
- 3:20and clean their systems.
- 3:21We've talked about that on,
- 3:22on some previous uh podcasts,
- 3:24but uh having that proper maintenance done,
- 3:26uh not only reduces your utility rates and ongoing keeps that system with the factory fresh,
- 3:31but like you mentioned,
- 3:32it keeps that system lasting much longer.
- 3:34It keeps your warranties valid.
- 3:36It keeps the system lasting longer,
- 3:37protecting that investment that you invested up front to have it installed.
- 3:41Um And when it does come time you know,
- 3:43back to utilities too.
- 3:45Not only keeping that system clean and maintained,
- 3:47helps save money and utilities and long life.
- 3:49Um When it does come time and you do replace the system,
- 3:53uh we give a guarantee to every system that we install.
- 3:56Uh whether it be the,
- 3:58the base model system or whether it be the Cadillac system,
- 4:01but we give a 25% utility savings guarantee in writing with that new system.
- 4:06Um And that just goes into all because of the design,
- 4:08the air flow and,
- 4:10and the steps and procedures that we take to properly design that system uh for your home.
- 4:14And so uh all kinds of ways uh to save money,
- 4:17um whether it be when it comes time to purchase that new system and,
- 4:21and win as well as,
- 4:22hey,
- 4:23how do I keep it lasting as long as possible?
- 4:25Both ways we can help.
- 4:27My recommendation is to contact Nathan at his and his team at Shafer heating and cooling and have them assess your system at this time,
- 4:39get it maintained.
- 4:41If it needs to be replaced,
- 4:43then start to get the regular maintenance.
- 4:46So this new ac system will last forever or as long as it can,
- 4:52I like to say forever,
- 4:53it'll certainly last a lot longer.
- 4:55It's like the person who does take care of themselves,
- 4:58they're not eating the junk food.
- 5:00And so they're eating healthy and going to the gym and going to the doctor for those regular maintenance checkups.
- 5:06And that is really the key thing here,
- 5:08isn't it,
- 5:09Nathan?
- 5:10100%.
- 5:11You know,
- 5:11we,
- 5:11we do it to ourselves and we talk about it with our own health.
- 5:14We take measurements,
- 5:15right.
- 5:15We're measuring,
- 5:16you know,
- 5:17our,
- 5:17our intake,
- 5:19our consumption of different types of foods.
- 5:21We're measuring our cholesterol,
- 5:22our blood pressure,
- 5:23our weight,
- 5:24you know,
- 5:24all these different things we're measuring,
- 5:25there's,
- 5:26there's um certain spots where we should be at within those.
- 5:30Uh our HV AC system is no different if you want to keep that system healthy and living a long time with the least amount of problems possible.
- 5:37The same types of steps if you look at that way needs to be taken uh with that system.
- 5:43Absolutely.
- 5:44I totally agree.
- 5:45Nathan,
- 5:46thank you so much for joining me here today on the program.
