- 0:45Speaker 4: happy Monday. How are you, sir?
- 0:48Speaker 1: Well, I've got all the videos from this morning's press
- 0:50Speaker 1: conference put up. Just finished my feature with Anthony Evans
- 0:54Speaker 1: for the day. The sideline fact that we never thought
- 1:00Speaker 1: we'd hear in a press conference was that he changed
- 1:04Speaker 1: the game around for himself Saturday against Missouri by changing
- 1:08Speaker 1: his underwear during the game. Actually, his tights. He said
- 1:12Speaker 1: he'd never worn tights in a game. I guess whatever
- 1:15Speaker 1: possessed him to wear them against Missouri, I don't know.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But he did, and he didn't produce the first half.
- 1:21Speaker 1: So he said he took it all off at halftime,
- 1:24Speaker 1: came out, had a great game. and I'm showing a
- 1:28Speaker 1: little bit of restraint in my story. I did not
- 1:31Speaker 1: include a line in there about how he's left a
- 1:34Speaker 1: whole lot of defenders having to change their drawers after
- 1:37Speaker 1: a catch and passes. Maybe that would have been pushing
- 1:39Speaker 1: the bounds of good taste, but you have fun with
- 1:43Speaker 1: it while you can here.
- 1:44Speaker 2: There's no doubt, and I think we all can agree
- 1:46Speaker 2: if you've watched three play, he definitely does that. The
- 1:49Speaker 2: layout catch that he had, I don't know that I've
- 1:52Speaker 2: seen a receiver.
- 1:53Speaker 4: It's been a while.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I mean, you could maybe go to you know, Tony
- 1:57Speaker 2: at Miami, but a guy that can catch a screen
- 1:59Speaker 2: pass and get up the sideline as quickly as he can.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I mean, that's an automatic five to seven. Boy, what
- 2:05Speaker 2: a player they got with him.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Well, it's something you said there. It reflects the question
- 2:11Speaker 1: I asked to Jeff Levy and some of the players
- 2:12Speaker 1: this morning as well, too. You know, Fluff Bothwell and
- 2:15Speaker 1: Colin Wilson rightfully get their due for the number of
- 2:18Speaker 1: tackles they break or the defenders they drag along. These
- 2:21Speaker 1: wide receivers do the same thing. You noticed the other night,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Missouri's most physical team states played so far. They made
- 2:27Speaker 1: them work for everything they got, a lot of first contact,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and the Bulldog receivers generally didn't go down. They spun
- 2:35Speaker 1: off for extra yards, or they even just physically took
- 2:38Speaker 1: the defender along. And the thing about all those is
- 2:41Speaker 1: that extra two or three yards there, you know, Libby
- 2:43Speaker 1: calls it a plus two, it really made a bunch
- 2:47Speaker 1: of mediocre first-down plays into makeable second down plays because
- 2:53Speaker 1: they simply came back, and what if they don't make
- 2:56Speaker 1: anything on that first down? Little things like that are
- 2:59Speaker 1: where I see a difference in this offense. Yeah, we
- 3:02Speaker 1: all look at the explosive plays, and they are the headliner,
- 3:06Speaker 1: but there's just not many negative plays or unproductive plays
- 3:10Speaker 1: by this offense either, especially once Camario settles down, gets
- 3:14Speaker 1: in a groove with his receivers, and the line figures
- 3:16Speaker 1: out how they want to attack the defenders as well.
- 3:19Speaker 1: So to me, that's kind of a side story on
- 3:22Speaker 1: this team. And Evans also said they've actually practiced that.
- 3:25Speaker 1: They put them in the running back drills. They have
- 3:27Speaker 1: to run through those pads, which smack them pretty hard
- 3:29Speaker 1: when they're carrying the ball, even in places, like he said,
- 3:31Speaker 1: where you don't want to get hit. But it prepares
- 3:34Speaker 1: them for the moments in the game, and that's how
- 3:37Speaker 1: he was able to make that big catch on a very,
- 3:39Speaker 1: very hard landing.
- 3:41Speaker 4: Speaking with David Murray, Gene's page, 247sports. com.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Talking Mississippi State, they get a 31-24 victory over Missouri.
- 3:47Speaker 2: They'll host Alabama coming up Saturday afternoon. Uh, David, again,
- 3:50Speaker 2: the toughness of this team, uh, you know, and, and
- 3:53Speaker 2: just the, this team's going to play four quarters, right?
- 3:56Speaker 2: I mean, we saw kind of an inverse of last
- 3:57Speaker 2: week with South Carolina. They go up 14, they give
- 4:00Speaker 2: up 24 unanswered. They continue to battle. They don't get
- 4:03Speaker 2: flustered and they close it out with a win. And
- 4:05Speaker 2: that to me is one of the more impressive things
- 4:07Speaker 2: with this team.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Well, it really is. Um, I'm not going to say
- 4:11Speaker 1: it and get flustered a little bit because you still
- 4:13Speaker 1: see how the first half ended. that was not a
- 4:16Speaker 1: pretty way to conclude. You've got to come away with
- 4:19Speaker 1: three points there. And boy, that three points would have
- 4:21Speaker 1: looked a whole lot better by the end of the
- 4:23Speaker 1: third quarter as well. They still overcame that, just like
- 4:26Speaker 1: they overcame the end of the first half of South
- 4:28Speaker 1: Carolina as well. My only concern there, and I hate
- 4:31Speaker 1: to harp on the negatives in those regards, is simply
- 4:33Speaker 1: that you can't do those things against a better opponent.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Missouri is what you'd call a pure opponent, and State
- 4:41Speaker 1: was able to take them on physical terms and beat
- 4:43Speaker 1: them and in front of a really genuinely electric setting there,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and a pretty feisty Missouri team as well. There were
- 4:49Speaker 1: some emotions down there on the field, and Missouri just
- 4:52Speaker 1: plays that way, and they kind of get you out
- 4:55Speaker 1: of the game, get a little chippy sometimes. The state
- 4:57Speaker 1: kept the composure, made it happen. But now you're going
- 4:59Speaker 1: against an Alabama team that it's not the Alabama of
- 5:02Speaker 1: the past, obviously. I've got a Tide reporter who will
- 5:07Speaker 1: be calling in sometime soon, wants to talk about the
- 5:08Speaker 1: history of the series, and as probably the only still
- 5:12Speaker 1: working member of the crew that saw Mississippi State's one
- 5:15Speaker 1: win over Bear Bryant as well as the one win
- 5:17Speaker 1: over Nick Saban. I think I'm qualified to comment there.
- 5:21Speaker 1: But this is a game I think State's got a
- 5:26Speaker 1: really good chance. And I will tell you this, too.
- 5:29Speaker 1: I asked the PR director. I thought things were maybe
- 5:32Speaker 1: a little tense this morning in the press conference. He said, no,
- 5:35Speaker 1: it wasn't that. He said it's just focus, that they
- 5:37Speaker 1: immediately shut out the Missouri game and turned entirely on
- 5:41Speaker 1: Sunday morning to Alabama game. Now that is a kind
- 5:44Speaker 1: of maturity that we haven't seen around here in a while.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Let's be blunt about it. We have not seen a
- 5:50Speaker 1: team able to come off a big emotional win like
- 5:52Speaker 1: that and focus quickly on the next game, which could
- 5:56Speaker 1: and should be even bigger.
- 5:57Speaker 4: There's no doubt.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Alabama comes to Davis-Wade Stadium this Saturday. David Camario-Taylor with
- 6:02Speaker 2: a little limp during the ballgame. Fluff Bothwell out of
- 6:05Speaker 2: the ballgame.
- 6:05Speaker 4: For a bit.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Also on the defensive side, you've got a couple players
- 6:09Speaker 2: with Smith and some others. I know it's probably too
- 6:12Speaker 2: early on a Monday, but any updates on health of players?
- 6:17Speaker 1: We did not get any update on Isaac Smith. It
- 6:19Speaker 1: was asked directly, and Levy said he'll let the SEC's
- 6:21Speaker 1: availability report speak for him. I think he'll be able
- 6:25Speaker 1: to go this weekend. I'm not concerned at all about Camario,
- 6:28Speaker 1: and I'm absolutely not concerned about Fluff because anytime Fluff
- 6:32Speaker 1: Bothell comes off to be a limping or a little
- 6:34Speaker 1: slower gimpy, here's the words you got to remember. Think
- 6:38Speaker 1: about the other guy, because that's the one who's really
- 6:41Speaker 1: going to be hurting after whatever contact that was. No,
- 6:44Speaker 1: Fluff's going to be fine. But you saw what Colin
- 6:46Speaker 1: Wilson could do when he comes in in those situations.
- 6:49Speaker 1: He's just a very underrated part of this offense. In
- 6:52Speaker 1: some ways, even better in the passing game as far
- 6:54Speaker 1: as making moves after the catch like that. So it's
- 6:59Speaker 1: just fascinating to see the toys, if you want to
- 7:02Speaker 1: put it that way, that Jeff Levy has to work
- 7:04Speaker 1: with on this offense, that Camario Taylor has to work with.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And I've already done some numbers and things like that.
- 7:10Speaker 1: He's only started six games. He's only 19 years old.
- 7:14Speaker 1: And already Camario Taylor has more offense than some entire
- 7:17Speaker 1: Mississippi State teams have had in the past. That is
- 7:20Speaker 1: really– it's almost happening so fast and so easily, in
- 7:26Speaker 1: quotation marks, that you're almost not even appreciating just how
- 7:29Speaker 1: remarkable– This quick development by Camario Taylor really is.
- 7:34Speaker 4: No, you're right.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I mean, it's one of those moments, and we say
- 7:37Speaker 2: this a lot in sports, they kind of slow it
- 7:38Speaker 2: down and try to absorb it because it's one of
- 7:41Speaker 2: those deals you'll look back at and go, wow, that
- 7:43Speaker 2: was a heck of a run.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Let me ask you about the weather. It looks like
- 7:50Speaker 4: it might rain. Do we know?
- 7:51Speaker 2: I mean, I know that you can't control the weather,
- 7:53Speaker 2: but it looks like I'm looking at 80, 85% chance
- 7:55Speaker 2: for Saturday.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Hopefully that will dissipate.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the rain is going to move through
- 8:00Speaker 1: a little faster. But at this point, I don't want
- 8:04Speaker 1: it to rain, obviously, because this is a team built
- 8:06Speaker 1: on speed. And I think that certainly would play the
- 8:10Speaker 1: state's favor. But, you know, what the heck? Both sides
- 8:13Speaker 1: have to play in the rain. It's been a while.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I know I'm looking at my yard right now thinking, yeah,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I could probably use a little water on this thing
- 8:20Speaker 1: right now as well. But, no, I'm just going to
- 8:24Speaker 1: say that the team is going to take that totally
- 8:26Speaker 1: out of their preparations. much like they take the ranking
- 8:29Speaker 1: out of their thoughts there. It's nice. Maybe they'll rain.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Maybe it won't. But you can prepare regardless. So I
- 8:37Speaker 1: would rule that out entirely. Just don't even put that
- 8:39Speaker 1: in fact you're thinking. Just show up because this is
- 8:42Speaker 1: going to be, you know, Saturday night was what Scott
- 8:45Speaker 1: Field and Davis Way Stadium were like in the great
- 8:48Speaker 1: days of Dak and Mullen or Jackie Sherrill years and
- 8:52Speaker 1: those things. Here's a chance to get it back on
- 8:54Speaker 1: an extended stretch now against an old rival, which State
- 8:57Speaker 1: hasn't played in a couple years now. So we're going
- 9:00Speaker 1: to renew acquaintances with a crosstown team. By the way,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I just saw that Alabama's going to drive in that morning.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I don't expect any help from the police in reforming
- 9:09Speaker 1: guard or slowing down the home state team coming. Unlike
- 9:14Speaker 1: when we go the other way, but hey, what the heck.
- 9:17Speaker 1: If everybody shows up on time, the game's going to
- 9:19Speaker 1: go off at 11 on Saturday morning, and Let's see
- 9:24Speaker 1: what next step Mississippi State can take in its road
- 9:26Speaker 1: in this comeback that Jeff Levy and the staff and
- 9:29Speaker 1: this team are putting together.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Let me ask you one more question. I appreciate your time.
- 9:33Speaker 2: On the time of the game, again, there's nothing you
- 9:35Speaker 2: can do about it. These networks have changed the way
- 9:38Speaker 2: they do things. Fox really kind of started this with
- 9:42Speaker 2: taking the Big Ten noon kickoff or whatever they called it.
- 9:47Speaker 2: You've got the open windows in the afternoon where you've
- 9:50Speaker 2: got LSU and McNeese Last week, we saw Tennessee and
- 9:52Speaker 2: Texas kick off in that 11 o'clock hour. Any thoughts
- 9:56Speaker 2: on that? We can't do anything. This is just us
- 9:57Speaker 2: spitballing about the times here. You know, your brain goes,
- 10:00Speaker 2: this will be a great night game, but it's teed
- 10:02Speaker 2: up as the biggest game in the conference, you know,
- 10:04Speaker 2: which now they're moving to, ABC moves to that noon
- 10:07Speaker 2: Eastern slot.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Well, look at it this way. I mean, Ole Miss, Florida.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Why was that not an evening game?
- 10:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Texas, Tennessee, for that matter as well. So I don't
- 10:17Speaker 1: know what's going through the networks. people's minds, and of course, obviously,
- 10:20Speaker 1: you and I have no control over that. Should this
- 10:23Speaker 1: be an evening game? Absolutely. It's not, and all the
- 10:26Speaker 1: more reason, too, because evening games do tend to favor
- 10:29Speaker 1: the home teams. Visiting teams tend to like these 11
- 10:33Speaker 1: o'clock games as well, so maybe tip a little bit
- 10:35Speaker 1: of advantage to Alabama. Less time to hang around and
- 10:39Speaker 1: think about things. Just get over, get dressed, play ball.
- 10:42Speaker 1: So it's frustrating in that regard, and I know it's
- 10:45Speaker 1: frustrating for fans. SEC you'd think would have a little
- 10:48Speaker 1: more input on what the schedule is going to be like. But, again, Jake,
- 10:55Speaker 1: as you and I both have learned many years ago,
- 10:57Speaker 1: TV schedules our lives for us these days.
- 10:59Speaker 4: There's no doubt. There's no doubt.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Make sure to get them at jeanspage247sports. com. They'll keep you
- 11:04Speaker 2: teed up all the way to kickoff and beyond. David,
- 11:06Speaker 2: thank you so much. Have a great week, and we'll
- 11:08Speaker 2: do it again soon.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And, as always, a reminder that Brian O'Connor's baseball team
- 11:13Speaker 1: is scrimmaging. I got to watch him yesterday. Sean James
- 11:16Speaker 1: drops a grand slam out of the yard and a
- 11:18Speaker 1: blowout win for his team in the scrimmage games. And
- 11:22Speaker 1: I just like what I've seen from the diamond dogs
- 11:24Speaker 1: at three scrimmages of the washed. I think they're definitely faster.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They certainly swing for more power this year. Yeah, still
- 11:31Speaker 1: maybe I say faster. I'm not sure about the base
- 11:33Speaker 1: running talent at this moment. Defense has taken shape. I
- 11:37Speaker 1: think quite nicely. So yeah, A lot to get excited about,
- 11:41Speaker 1: and there'll be open scrimmages again this weekend at Dudu
- 11:44Speaker 1: Field on Friday and Sunday, so keep tuned for that
- 11:49Speaker 1: and a chance to watch these guys go at it
- 11:51Speaker 1: and get an advanced look at the 2027 Bulldog baseball team.
- 11:54Speaker 4: It'll be here before you know it. David, thank you
- 11:56Speaker 4: so much. We'll do it again next week. Thank you.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Jake, Ben, good to hear from you.
