Latest / Twin Cities Territory / The 2026 Ham & Eggies: Our Twins MVP, best moment and more awards
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Well, two of us got the memo that it's a
- 0:03Speaker 1: fancy award show today. Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the
- 0:07Speaker 1: 2026 Ham and Eggies, the first ever Ham and Eggies,
- 0:11Speaker 1: our twins season awards. I'm your host, Zach Pierce, joined
- 0:14Speaker 1: as always by Dan Hayes and Tyler Duffy. Dan and
- 0:17Speaker 1: I owe the athletic Tyler, of course, the longtime Minnesota twin. Guys,
- 0:22Speaker 1: it is not exactly the type of season that people
- 0:26Speaker 1: are going to love hearing awards given out for. So
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm just going to warn everybody off the top. This
- 0:30Speaker 1: is a This is going to be a fun show.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We've got a few months to get into all the
- 0:35Speaker 1: issues in the offseason, which we will starting Monday. And
- 0:38Speaker 1: we have a little bit already earlier this week as well.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But today is all about this season and awarding the
- 0:44Speaker 1: top performances from around the diamond with the twins. We
- 0:48Speaker 1: have eight different categories. We asked for your help with
- 0:50Speaker 1: a couple. Here's how the voting worked. It was very scientific.
- 0:53Speaker 1: The three of us voted. I sent the ballots to
- 0:57Speaker 1: Ernst & Young. They laughed at me and said, are
- 0:58Speaker 1: you kidding? This is just three ballots. I said, good point.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I tabulated all the results. If we had a majority
- 1:04Speaker 1: for one pick, we went with it. If all three
- 1:06Speaker 1: of us pick something different, we put it to a
- 1:08Speaker 1: fan vote, which only happened one time. And we'll get
- 1:11Speaker 1: to that later. So that's really it. That's all there
- 1:14Speaker 1: is to it.
- 1:14Speaker 2: It was predictable.
- 1:16Speaker 1: It was predictable. And anything else to add, Dan?
- 1:21Speaker 3: The suits and the dry cleaners.
- 1:26Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:27Speaker 1: For those who are listening, Tyler and I, spruced up
- 1:29Speaker 1: for the moment with jackets and, uh, Dan has a
- 1:32Speaker 1: hoodie on, but that's okay. That's okay.
- 1:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35Speaker 5: My, my suits in Chicago. Sorry. Sorry. That's all good. Didn't,
- 1:39Speaker 5: didn't prepare, uh, well enough. I apologize.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Uh, what happens happens.
- 1:45Speaker 1: One other note. Um, twins are obviously they have one
- 1:48Speaker 1: series left this weekend, Texas at target field. Um, we're
- 1:52Speaker 1: not going to spend much time previewing that they can
- 1:54Speaker 1: play spoiler to the Rangers, but obviously their hopes are over. Um, but,
- 1:59Speaker 1: One guy we should touch on, who we will right
- 2:01Speaker 1: here in the first award, is the person whose season
- 2:03Speaker 1: ended on Wednesday with another strong start. That is Connor Prelip.
- 2:07Speaker 1: So without further ado, let's get to our first award,
- 2:10Speaker 1: which is Rookie.
- 2:11Speaker 5: Of the Year.
- 2:13Speaker 6: Whatever the hell that is.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And it's Connor Prelip. Very nice. That was thanks to
- 2:21Speaker 1: Tyler and I. We were the two who picked Prelip. Tyler,
- 2:25Speaker 1: what made it stand out for you with Prelip?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Man, he went wire.
- 2:30Speaker 7: To wire, basically showed up as a rookie, injury passed,
- 2:36Speaker 7: all those things, and.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Solidified himself as a piece for next year, I think.
- 2:42Speaker 7: In a lot of ways, he had a little hiccup
- 2:45Speaker 7: maybe in the middle there, but he's a dominant lefty,
- 2:49Speaker 7: young kid that's still learning to pitch and is only
- 2:52Speaker 7: going to get better And it's taken huge steps. And
- 2:56Speaker 7: his last two starts were some of the strongest of
- 2:58Speaker 7: the year, I felt like. He went, what, his longest
- 3:00Speaker 7: outing of the year was the one before in Anaheim and,
- 3:04Speaker 7: you know, finished strong in San Francisco. And, you know,
- 3:07Speaker 7: enjoy these next couple days. Get you a couple massages.
- 3:11Speaker 7: Maybe have a couple beverages during a game or two.
- 3:13Speaker 2: You know, never know. But, yeah, hell of a year
- 3:16Speaker 2: for Connor.
- 3:16Speaker 7: And I'm sure the Twins and his teammates and everyone
- 3:19Speaker 7: involved are very excited to have him around this year.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Yeah, he tossed the seven shutout innings in his second
- 3:25Speaker 1: to last start in Anaheim and then two runs in
- 3:28Speaker 1: five and a third in San Francisco. His last six
- 3:30Speaker 1: starts were all pretty excellent to have a little bit
- 3:33Speaker 1: of a bump. But I think, you know, I looked
- 3:37Speaker 1: at Culpepper, but just with only 40 games, it was
- 3:41Speaker 1: tough for me to say that was enough there to
- 3:44Speaker 1: give it the award. And you're right, with the injury history,
- 3:46Speaker 1: the fact that he pitched the whole season basically and
- 3:48Speaker 1: finished strong, even if the overall ERA isn't exactly popping
- 3:52Speaker 1: off the page. remember our, our pool of candidates for
- 3:55Speaker 1: this award is rookies on the twins. So, so you
- 3:59Speaker 1: have to, uh, take that relatively, but Dan, uh, Dan disagreed. And, uh,
- 4:03Speaker 1: wait for somebody who's okay.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Okay.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Let me just say, straight to it.
- 4:08Speaker 3: He, he, uh, two 36 era over his last five starts.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Like he, yeah. 26 and two thirds in ends, uh,
- 4:16Speaker 3: in September, you know, at the, at the point where
- 4:18Speaker 3: he was like, um, at a career high in innings, he,
- 4:22Speaker 3: he thrived. So, I mean, he's a, he's a great choice. I,
- 4:25Speaker 3: I chose Andrew Morris.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I just thought Andrew Morris is fair.
- 4:28Speaker 2: He was a close second for me.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:30Speaker 3: He like, I, I, I thought he had an excellent
- 4:33Speaker 3: season out of the bullpen all year. I mean, he,
- 4:35Speaker 3: he obviously hit some, uh, hit a wall a little bit, um,
- 4:38Speaker 3: especially in August, but he was just such a force
- 4:41Speaker 3: for them and a huge development because that bullpen was
- 4:44Speaker 3: so unsettled and he came in and did a good
- 4:47Speaker 3: job with that, but no, no, uh, No problem with
- 4:50Speaker 3: Connor Prelip. I think, you know, obviously the inning count
- 4:53Speaker 3: is amazing. The fact that he threw more innings this
- 4:56Speaker 3: season than he had basically in the last six years combined,
- 5:00Speaker 3: he was outstanding. So very good year for him and
- 5:04Speaker 3: something that I think the Twins are excited about definitely.
- 5:08Speaker 7: It's bad on me for leaving the reliever out to
- 5:11Speaker 7: dry per usual. So starters get all the glory.
- 5:16Speaker 6: All right.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Uh, congratulations to Connor. We'll move on now to our
- 5:20Speaker 1: second category of the day, which is our most improved
- 5:23Speaker 1: twin of the year.
- 5:26Speaker 6: And the winner.
- 5:27Speaker 8: Is Brooks Lee.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Congratulations, Brooks Lee. You're going to hear Brooks Lee's name, uh,
- 5:36Speaker 1: quite a bit today. It's the first of a few times,
- 5:39Speaker 1: at least, uh, and it's a, it's a good choice. I, uh,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I didn't go with Brooks Lee. It was you two
- 5:46Speaker 1: who picked him. I think Tyler, you picked like seven
- 5:47Speaker 1: people for this category, but we went with Brooks as
- 5:50Speaker 1: the tiebreaker. Uh, but yeah, no, uh, pretty huge improvement, uh,
- 5:55Speaker 1: was in the lineup almost every day, but the statistics
- 5:58Speaker 1: certainly bear it out. But Dan, why don't you, uh,
- 6:00Speaker 1: why don't you give the induction speech for Brooks?
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think just the, it was talking to Mike
- 6:06Speaker 3: Caruco the other day in San Francisco, the Giants, uh,
- 6:09Speaker 3: legendary broadcaster and he said and he's known brooksley his
- 6:11Speaker 3: whole life he said he has belief he has confidence
- 6:14Speaker 3: now and that's what it really comes down to is
- 6:16Speaker 3: that he trusts in himself and you can see it
- 6:21Speaker 3: and you know he's taken off to the point where
- 6:24Speaker 3: he's hit what 24 home runs 24 yeah yeah second
- 6:31Speaker 3: yeah it was very clutch with runners in scoring position
- 6:35Speaker 3: you know the ops plus is is solid it's like
- 6:37Speaker 3: 105 which means he's just a little bit above average,
- 6:41Speaker 3: but the defense at third.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Base has been spectacular.
- 6:45Speaker 3: You know, he is top 10 league defensively at third base. And,
- 6:49Speaker 3: and I think you just see a guy who, who
- 6:51Speaker 3: knows what he can be and looks like a piece now.
- 6:54Speaker 3: And that's not something that I was thinking. I didn't,
- 6:57Speaker 3: I didn't know if Brooks Lee was going to turn
- 6:59Speaker 3: the corner. And that was a question coming into this
- 7:02Speaker 3: season last year was, uh, the power showed up, but
- 7:06Speaker 3: he was, that wasn't what his game was supposed to be.
- 7:10Speaker 3: And he took it and ran with it this year. And,
- 7:13Speaker 3: you know, like the other day, Kruko told me he's
- 7:15Speaker 3: gonna hit 30 to 40 home runs. He's got TNT
- 7:17Speaker 3: in those hands. So, um, I think that's, that's somebody
- 7:21Speaker 3: that we can, you know, expect to see more of
- 7:24Speaker 3: based off what we saw this year. It's a good
- 7:26Speaker 3: kind of real found himself year. And, and, um, building
- 7:32Speaker 3: a kind of nice platform or, or base for future success.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Tyler, you mentioned the games played 153. He was in
- 7:42Speaker 1: the lineup almost every day. And crucially for a team
- 7:46Speaker 1: that had a lot of players who dropped off and
- 7:47Speaker 1: hit the wall has played well through to the end.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 7: And, and the move early on, you know, the, the
- 7:55Speaker 7: little bit of a, I don't know, I won't call
- 7:57Speaker 7: it a log jam, but the shortstop dilemma, you know, and,
- 8:00Speaker 7: and he, Moved over to third, and we talked about
- 8:03Speaker 7: him the other day. Ironically, he just took to it,
- 8:07Speaker 7: like I said, a duck to water. It was a
- 8:10Speaker 7: smooth transition in season in the big leagues, and early
- 8:16Speaker 7: on it was like, okay, what's going to happen? And
- 8:18Speaker 7: then by the end of it, we stopped talking about
- 8:20Speaker 7: Brooks Lee at third base because he was just making plays.
- 8:23Speaker 7: And that's what you want. When a guy makes a move,
- 8:26Speaker 7: we hit on Keyshaw before, too. it's when guys make
- 8:29Speaker 7: those changes, especially in the big leagues during the year,
- 8:33Speaker 7: you never know how it's going to work out.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And, and he, it went as about as perfectly as
- 8:37Speaker 2: it could.
- 8:38Speaker 7: Um, he seemed to really settle in and, and like
- 8:41Speaker 7: Dan was saying, the power, that's something that's big. If
- 8:44Speaker 7: he can do, you know, he's got some contact skill
- 8:47Speaker 7: to have the power to go along with that and,
- 8:50Speaker 7: and to put some balls out of the park. Like
- 8:51Speaker 7: that's a big piece to have a cornerstone piece to
- 8:54Speaker 7: have in a lineup. And it's a guy, you know,
- 8:56Speaker 7: you picked in the first round, it's what you want
- 8:57Speaker 7: to happen. And, And that's the one that's going to
- 8:59Speaker 7: be fun to see all these guys. You go through
- 9:02Speaker 7: the bad years sometimes, but the results are you get
- 9:05Speaker 7: players like a Brooks Lee or a Jenkins or whoever
- 9:08Speaker 7: it may be that are now in the big leagues.
- 9:10Speaker 7: And so it's time now for all of them to
- 9:12Speaker 7: get collectively together and hit the ground running come spring training.
- 9:16Speaker 2: But Brooks, most importantly, had a great year this year.
- 9:21Speaker 1: You guys both picked Brooks Lee. I went with Taj Bradley.
- 9:26Speaker 4: Yep.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Had a really rough go for the, for the twins
- 9:29Speaker 1: portion of the season last year was better in Tampa,
- 9:32Speaker 1: but still, even with including the Tampa numbers, a huge
- 9:35Speaker 1: jump across the board and has put himself in the
- 9:38Speaker 1: conversation to be the guy next year. I mean, depending
- 9:42Speaker 1: on how his, his, his spring goes and Pablo and
- 9:44Speaker 1: Joe's spring goes, he could be, uh, the front of
- 9:47Speaker 1: that rotation pretty quick, or if not, he still pitching
- 9:50Speaker 1: well enough to, to be in that conversation. So, we'll
- 9:53Speaker 1: hear his name later though, too, as well, uh, as
- 9:56Speaker 1: you'll see, uh, actually we'll hear that right now because
- 9:59Speaker 1: the next award up on our list is pitcher of
- 10:05Speaker 1: the year.
- 10:06Speaker 8: And the winner is Taj Bradley.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Uh, this was, I believe our only unanimous selection, uh,
- 10:18Speaker 1: Kind of tough to go any other way, I think, guys. Obviously,
- 10:22Speaker 1: with Joe Ryan falling off in the second half and
- 10:25Speaker 1: spending time on the IL, he was clearly the Twins'
- 10:27Speaker 1: best starter throughout the year, and it's probably an award
- 10:30Speaker 1: that is likely to go to a starter over a reliever,
- 10:33Speaker 1: and there's nobody in the bullpen who put up enough
- 10:36Speaker 1: of a dominant season to take it away from him.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I don't know what else needs to be said, but
- 10:40Speaker 1: it was an incredible year and a deserving honor for Taj.
- 10:45Speaker 5: He was 200 strikeouts, man. 200 strikeouts, yes. Career high
- 10:50Speaker 5: in innings. His war was off the charts. His war
- 10:54Speaker 5: was close to three. 4-2? 4-2.
- 10:55Speaker 2: They're all different.
- 10:56Speaker 5: 4-2 with baseball reference.
- 10:59Speaker 2: 4-2 with baseball reference. 2.8 on fan graphs.
- 11:02Speaker 5: But he was just dominant.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Gomez, I think, He had a shot.
- 11:15Speaker 7: Had he finished strong and perfect like he was, he
- 11:18Speaker 7: would have been a close call for me. That's a
- 11:21Speaker 7: huge add. The back end in a weird bullpen all year,
- 11:25Speaker 7: he was good. Taj was just 200 punch outs, 31,
- 11:31Speaker 7: 32 starts.
- 11:33Speaker 2: You take that any day of the week.
- 11:36Speaker 1: He started 31 games, and the Twins were 18 and
- 11:40Speaker 1: 13 in his starts, which doesn't sound... particularly sexy when
- 11:43Speaker 1: you say 18 and 13, but it is a 94
- 11:45Speaker 1: win pace. They were, uh, they were a great team
- 11:47Speaker 1: when he started, uh, and it, and it showed throughout
- 11:50Speaker 1: the season. And while we're mentioning strikeouts, we forgot to mention, uh,
- 11:54Speaker 1: Connor Peele's 128 was, I think it was fifth most
- 11:57Speaker 1: for a twins rookie. And the names on that list are,
- 12:00Speaker 1: are pretty good. Uh, it was Bert, Jim Cott. I
- 12:03Speaker 1: forget who all, uh, uh, who all else was on it.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Not Tyler Duffy.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:11Speaker 1: You know, you got to make 30 starts to have
- 12:13Speaker 1: a shot at that, I would say.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's also true.
- 12:16Speaker 1: All right, next on our list is our defensive player
- 12:21Speaker 1: of the year.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And the winner is.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Whatever the hell that is.
- 12:28Speaker 1: There he is again. It's Brooks Lee. Congratulations to Brooks Lee.
- 12:33Speaker 1: This is your guys' doing on this one. We've already
- 12:38Speaker 1: alluded to.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But obviously, Dan, since the move to third base, he's
- 12:43Speaker 1: been one of the best statistical defenders in the league.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Overall, if we looked at his numbers, his metrics would
- 12:48Speaker 3: say this is not the correct choice.
- 12:51Speaker 5: It's very specific.
- 12:52Speaker 3: This is Brooks Lee at third base because shortstop didn't
- 12:56Speaker 3: go well, and he's talked about that. He knows this
- 12:59Speaker 3: was the right move. He said his range plays at third.
- 13:02Speaker 3: He feels like he's locked in. I'm going to write
- 13:05Speaker 3: something about it here in the offseason. He loves how
- 13:09Speaker 3: it feels, and he said kudos to the front office
- 13:11Speaker 3: because they called this and it wasn't something he wanted
- 13:13Speaker 3: to do.
- 13:15Speaker 5: But his shortstop, if we look at the numbers, on.
- 13:19Speaker 3: The year I think he's a minus one or minus
- 13:21Speaker 3: two defender because his shortstop play was so bad. But
- 13:24Speaker 3: his third base has been spectacular. Again, top ten in
- 13:27Speaker 3: the league. He expects to make the plays. He's got
- 13:31Speaker 3: the arm. He loves the angles. He loves throwing from
- 13:34Speaker 3: different angles. um, it's, it's really allowed him to be
- 13:37Speaker 3: creative defensively and, and, uh, really good.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He, uh, yes, was not very good at shortstop, uh,
- 13:46Speaker 1: which is why I did not pick him.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I was looking at the.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Overall holistic, um, picture. That's fair. I, who did I
- 13:55Speaker 1: vote for? Um, so the other, the other name that
- 13:58Speaker 1: Tyler threw out, because again, he cheated and like, like
- 14:00Speaker 1: to throw out several, several votes.
- 14:02Speaker 2: I picked and then I said, uh, you.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Know, Um, was Ryan Jeffers. I actually went with Victor Caratini,
- 14:09Speaker 1: but you could make a, you could make a case for,
- 14:11Speaker 1: for both catchers together as well. Obviously they basically ended
- 14:15Speaker 1: up splitting time because of how much Jeffers, uh, uh,
- 14:19Speaker 1: missed with injury, but. the twins were, uh, first of all,
- 14:23Speaker 1: Caratini rates extremely well in a lot of defensive metrics,
- 14:26Speaker 1: which I, I still, for the life of me, do
- 14:28Speaker 1: not fully understand all of them.
- 14:29Speaker 2: I was trying to, uh, someone needs to write a book.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Yes. Yes.
- 14:34Speaker 1: That would be helpful if, if only there was such
- 14:36Speaker 1: a thing, but, um, he, he also, uh, had the, uh,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I think 74 successful challenges. It was, which, um, was
- 14:47Speaker 1: like fifth most in baseball despite the fact that he's
- 14:50Speaker 1: caught a lot less innings than the people the catchers
- 14:52Speaker 1: ahead of him on the list they're all catchers of
- 14:54Speaker 1: course um he and jeffers together have made the twins
- 14:57Speaker 1: the most successful team in abs challenges at least in
- 15:00Speaker 1: terms of calls overturned in their favor the percentage is
- 15:03Speaker 1: not the highest uh but look for a team that
- 15:07Speaker 1: and he also uh very high rating and pitch framing
- 15:10Speaker 1: for a team that like needs stuff like that to
- 15:13Speaker 1: to win games uh At a very important position, both
- 15:16Speaker 1: those guys deserve a shout-out for sure. So they at
- 15:20Speaker 1: least made the nominee list.
- 15:22Speaker 7: We're talking about keeping Jeffers. That's part of the reason
- 15:25Speaker 7: right there. They combined this year, did a lot behind
- 15:28Speaker 7: the plate.
- 15:29Speaker 1: All right, we're halfway through our award show. If you
- 15:32Speaker 1: like what you hear, please toss us a like, a subscribe.
- 15:34Speaker 1: If you don't like what you hear, don't worry. There's
- 15:36Speaker 1: only one of these a year. We're back to talking
- 15:38Speaker 1: offseason as of Monday. But we will be right back
- 15:42Speaker 1: with the rest of our awards.
- 15:47Speaker 7: So Jay, do you ever find yourself crashing in the afternoon,
- 15:50Speaker 7: needing a boost, but not wanting to have caffeine that
- 15:52Speaker 7: you know is going to ruin your sleep?
- 15:54Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, definitely.
- 15:55Speaker 9: I found myself on the golf course a lot lately.
- 15:58Speaker 9: And sometimes, you know, it can be long days out there.
- 16:00Speaker 9: So I reach in my golf bag. I keep the
- 16:02Speaker 9: ultra focus pouch right here with me, keep it in
- 16:04Speaker 9: my golf bag. And it's part of my golf bag,
- 16:08Speaker 9: as I said.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:09Speaker 8: And so what are some of your favorite effects of
- 16:11Speaker 8: the ultra pouches?
- 16:14Speaker 9: Definitely, you know, gives me a little bit of focus,
- 16:16Speaker 9: that little bit of energy that I'm looking for and
- 16:19Speaker 9: obviously not having any caffeine in it is always a
- 16:22Speaker 9: plus for me. So I enjoy those things. Ultra is
- 16:24Speaker 9: the ultimate guilt free pouch delivering instant focus and mental
- 16:27Speaker 9: clarity without nicotine or caffeine. New customers can use code
- 16:31Speaker 9: baseball to get 15 percent off at TakeUltra.com. That's TakeUltra.com

- 16:40Speaker 9: they will ask you where you heard about them. Please
- 16:42Speaker 9: support our show and tell them our show sent you.
- 16:46Speaker 4: Okay, I lied.
- 16:47Speaker 1: There were two unanimous votes from our panel, and here
- 16:53Speaker 1: was the second one. This one, we've done most of
- 16:56Speaker 1: our player awards. This one is for the moment of
- 16:58Speaker 1: the year, our favorite good moment of the year for
- 17:03Speaker 1: the Twins.
- 17:04Speaker 6: And the winner is.
- 17:10Speaker 1: It is Cody Clemens' ultimate grand slam. It was kind
- 17:16Speaker 1: of a no-brainer. There were a few other walk-offs, but
- 17:18Speaker 1: you don't get walk-offs like this every single day. Twins
- 17:22Speaker 1: were down 3-0. I forget the date. Playing the Royals,
- 17:25Speaker 1: I believe.
- 17:25Speaker 5: It was right before the deadline. It was like end
- 17:27Speaker 5: of July.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Right before the deadline.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Maybe early August. Maybe August 1.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Back in those unicorn sparkle days when we thought there
- 17:38Speaker 1: was a playoff chance, for this team. So it was
- 17:41Speaker 1: a huge hit, a huge win. Twins were down 3-0
- 17:44Speaker 1: in the ninth inning, were just dead in the water.
- 17:46Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden with two outs, load
- 17:48Speaker 1: the bases and Clemens comes up and hits the home run.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Electric moment, Dan.
- 17:55Speaker 3: It was, and it was a lefty-lefty. I think it
- 17:57Speaker 3: was Matt Strom was in there for, they didn't pinch.
- 18:00Speaker 5: Hit for him. And, you know, I remember the reaction from.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Guys on the bench and just, it was one of those,
- 18:07Speaker 3: it was unbelievable to see because that was going to
- 18:10Speaker 3: be a disappointing loss in a home series against Kansas
- 18:14Speaker 3: City and going on the road. And it's funny because
- 18:17Speaker 3: that maybe the twins, they really started their slide in
- 18:21Speaker 3: Seattle right after that. They had the couple of tough
- 18:24Speaker 3: walk-off losses. So the moment of the year might've masked
- 18:28Speaker 3: a little bit of like their struggles because they had
- 18:30Speaker 3: lost to Oakland at home in the series ahead of that.
- 18:33Speaker 3: It wasn't, it wasn't their best time and he came through.
- 18:36Speaker 3: It was awesome moment. It was just, Unbelievable and out
- 18:39Speaker 3: of nowhere. It really did feel like it was out
- 18:41Speaker 3: of nowhere.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Yeah, it turns out the lucky walk-off grand slam was
- 18:47Speaker 1: actually foreshadowing problems, not good things ahead. Who would have thought?
- 18:50Speaker 1: But it was really, I mean, obviously that scenario was
- 18:54Speaker 1: astounding regardless, but the Twins, the first two batters of
- 18:57Speaker 1: the inning were Larnik and Caratini got out. So two
- 19:00Speaker 1: outs and nobody on, down 3-0. Then Jeffers gets hit
- 19:03Speaker 1: by a pitch and then Royce Lewis goes 0-2, fights
- 19:07Speaker 1: back for a single, Josh Bell goes 0-2, fights back
- 19:11Speaker 1: for a walk, and then Clemens goes 0-2, and on
- 19:13Speaker 1: the third pitch, 0-2 in a lefty-lefty matchup, did not miss,
- 19:18Speaker 1: and Tyler, I forget if this was one of the
- 19:20Speaker 1: games that I turned off and gave up on, but.
- 19:23Speaker 2: It was quite an inning.
- 19:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it was somewhere around that, yeah, but that way, it's,
- 19:27Speaker 7: like I said, all with two outs, lefty-lefty, all the things,
- 19:31Speaker 7: you know, everything's against you at that point, and to
- 19:35Speaker 7: do that, and it's, You know, it's one of those,
- 19:37Speaker 7: I'm sure, when he's done playing, that will stick for
- 19:41Speaker 7: him too, which is, you know, it's always so fun. Like,
- 19:44Speaker 7: there's big moments of the year, and obviously we all
- 19:45Speaker 7: went straight to that moment, you know, picking out for
- 19:49Speaker 7: these awards. but, you know, in the fans, it's, that's
- 19:52Speaker 7: one that will forever be in a highlight, you know,
- 19:55Speaker 7: it'll be on MLB network. I'm sure from time to time,
- 19:58Speaker 7: if it ever happens again, you know, it's just, it
- 20:00Speaker 7: was one of those things.
- 20:01Speaker 2: It was as rare as a perfect game.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Almost.
- 20:04Speaker 7: It's just such a cool moment for him, for the team.
- 20:08Speaker 7: They needed the boost of the time. I think that
- 20:10Speaker 7: was the biggest thing. They were kind of going through it,
- 20:13Speaker 7: and that was a huge moment, and it gave us
- 20:15Speaker 7: all a little bit of hope at the end of
- 20:17Speaker 7: the day. Dan didn't appreciate it as much as we did,
- 20:22Speaker 7: but we loved every minute of it. It was a
- 20:24Speaker 7: thrilling victory. I think it was on a getaway day, too.
- 20:28Speaker 7: It was a day game. It was just the perfect
- 20:30Speaker 7: lineup of events to happen.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Congrats to Cody.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Congrats to Cody. The inaugural moment of the year. Ham
- 20:40Speaker 1: and Iggy.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Well done.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Next up was the best in-season move. The adjustment or
- 20:50Speaker 1: the change that we thought was most helpful to the team.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Could have been a trade. Could have been a call-up.
- 20:56Speaker 1: A position change.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Really anything.
- 20:59Speaker 1: This is the one that we were all split on.
- 21:02Speaker 1: And We put it to a fan vote last night
- 21:05Speaker 1: on X, and the winner is.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Whatever the hell that is.
- 21:13Speaker 1: It's moving Brooksley to third base. It was definitely a
- 21:19Speaker 1: very solid move defensively. Was this a Dan Hayes nominee?
- 21:24Speaker 1: It was.
- 21:25Speaker 4: It was.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Take it away, Dan.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Look, it sets the infield for the future.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Brooksley at third base allowed Kalen Culpepper to come up
- 21:33Speaker 3: shortstop move Royce Lewis to the right side, like first base.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I mean, he's looked good at first defensively. We've talked
- 21:41Speaker 3: about the fact that Royce Lewis needs to hit more
- 21:43Speaker 3: at first, but it really put the rest of the
- 21:46Speaker 3: team in place. And, and Luke Kieschel's in the outfield
- 21:49Speaker 3: as a result of this now, because Cody Clemens went
- 21:52Speaker 3: to second where Luke Kieschel was struggling defensively. And Luke
- 21:55Speaker 3: Kieschel has had some struggles out there and right, but
- 21:57Speaker 3: that's going to be his position. And they're, they're kind
- 21:59Speaker 3: of set on that. And I think this just kind of,
- 22:03Speaker 3: set the tone as much as I really liked getting
- 22:06Speaker 3: Jeff Hoffman at the deadline.
- 22:07Speaker 5: I thought that was good.
- 22:07Speaker 3: It's good for next year because they get him again
- 22:09Speaker 3: next year. Dean Kramer has been really solid for them. Um, and,
- 22:13Speaker 3: and that's going to give them stability in the rotation
- 22:16Speaker 3: for next year too. But, uh, Brooksley really doing that move, uh,
- 22:21Speaker 3: making that move just sets a lot of things in
- 22:24Speaker 3: motion and, uh, was a big deal.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Uh, the other nominees, Tyler, uh, had mentioned putting Gomez
- 22:32Speaker 1: in the closer role.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Is that right? Yeah.
- 22:35Speaker 7: Well, I guess that just the process, whatever you want
- 22:37Speaker 7: to call it, him, him becoming a twin and then
- 22:40Speaker 7: being the closer for, you know, majority of the season was,
- 22:43Speaker 7: I mean, without him, that's.
- 22:45Speaker 2: You know, 20, what do you have?
- 22:46Speaker 5: 23.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I think he finished with saves.
- 22:49Speaker 7: You know, that's a lot of games of tossing up,
- 22:51Speaker 7: you know, Morris was so hot to start the year,
- 22:53Speaker 7: had his struggles at times.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And then it became kind of, who is it going
- 22:57Speaker 2: to be?
- 22:59Speaker 7: And he solidified the back end at a time when
- 23:01Speaker 7: the rest of the bullpen was kind of scuffling. And, um,
- 23:04Speaker 7: I just think that was a big, it's a quiet addition. Um,
- 23:08Speaker 7: you know, maybe that as, you know, a non reliever
- 23:12Speaker 7: doesn't notice as much, but a guy like me who
- 23:14Speaker 7: was out there in the trenches, um, you know, having
- 23:16Speaker 7: that guy at the back end helps other guys settle in. And, um,
- 23:20Speaker 7: you know, it was just, it's 23 games that he
- 23:22Speaker 7: came in and, you know, whether it was a roller
- 23:24Speaker 7: coaster or not at times, he's, he's, he got the
- 23:26Speaker 7: game closed and finished off and, Um, you know, without
- 23:30Speaker 7: him there, who knows that could be a few, few
- 23:31Speaker 7: more losses. And we'd have been having this conversation about post-season,
- 23:35Speaker 7: you know, after season a lot, a long time ago.
- 23:38Speaker 1: And I went with, uh, calling up the, the AAA stars. Uh, we,
- 23:44Speaker 1: you know, maybe they waited too long, whatever, but the
- 23:48Speaker 1: fact that they all ended up getting up here and
- 23:50Speaker 1: all three of them really have, have now at this
- 23:52Speaker 1: point have something very positive to take into the off
- 23:55Speaker 1: season and, For next year, I feel like that eliminates
- 23:58Speaker 1: some of those freshman jitters that might happen when those
- 24:02Speaker 1: players are inevitably part of the rotation. Talking, of course,
- 24:04Speaker 1: about Culpepper, Walker Jenkins, and Emmanuel Rodriguez primarily.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I mean, the team was super aggressive in making those moves.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I know Walker or Jenkins took a little while. A
- 24:18Speaker 3: lot of clamoring from fans. But, I mean, they brought
- 24:22Speaker 3: up pre-lift fast. They did that right away. They showed
- 24:27Speaker 3: it all year. They were willing to bring up the rookies.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Culpepper on August 7th was huge. The fact that these
- 24:36Speaker 3: guys all netted time during the season and have seen
- 24:41Speaker 3: Walker Jenkins going through that slump and then coming out
- 24:44Speaker 3: the other side is going to be huge for him
- 24:46Speaker 3: next year.
- 24:50Speaker 1: All right. Now the big one. Who is our team MVP?
- 24:54Speaker 5: MVP.
- 24:56Speaker 8: The winner is, whatever the hell that is, Cody Clemons.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Congratulations to Cody Clemons. Takes his second ham and eggy,
- 25:09Speaker 1: one behind Brooks Lee's three. But he gets the big one,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and this was all you guys. Tyler, why is he
- 25:14Speaker 1: your MVP?
- 25:16Speaker 7: He posted, I don't know what games played were, but
- 25:21Speaker 7: I know it got to where he wasn't even the
- 25:23Speaker 7: matchup guy with the lefties in the game.
- 25:26Speaker 2: He played left.
- 25:28Speaker 7: I think he played center at one point, played second, third, first.
- 25:32Speaker 7: I can't remember if he got an inning on the
- 25:34Speaker 7: bump this year, but the guy literally did everything that
- 25:37Speaker 7: was asked. He's leading the team in homers. He's right
- 25:41Speaker 7: there in average. He's played good defense. He's a guy
- 25:45Speaker 7: in the clubhouse, like the intangibles. He and the Rocket
- 25:49Speaker 7: got together at the Field of Dreams game. They did
- 25:52Speaker 7: it all this year. Cody had a great year. It's
- 25:56Speaker 7: just one, for me, wire to wire. He was just
- 25:59Speaker 7: a guy that was always kind of in the mix
- 26:00Speaker 7: of doing something. He and Josh Bell comes to mind, too.
- 26:05Speaker 7: Those guys were just kind of there. Dependable for the
- 26:09Speaker 7: whole season. Without him in the lineup, without hitting the
- 26:13Speaker 7: ultimate grand slam, they don't win that game. There's a
- 26:16Speaker 7: lot of games where he was getting clutch hits and
- 26:18Speaker 7: coming up with guys on base and just making things happen.
- 26:21Speaker 2: He's a well-deserved award.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Home runs were just important.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Like he had 26 of them and I don't know
- 26:31Speaker 3: the stat anymore, but you know, it's a high percentage
- 26:35Speaker 3: that have tied the game or put the twins in
- 26:37Speaker 3: the lead. And, um, he was clutch like that. Uh,
- 26:41Speaker 3: he leads the American league with seven triples, which is
- 26:44Speaker 3: crazy to me. Um, he, uh, just, it's a 2.4
- 26:49Speaker 3: F or a baseball reference war season. Um, But he's
- 26:56Speaker 3: just been consistent. I have a feeling he's going to
- 26:59Speaker 3: win the Writers MVP Award too. I mean, he just–
- 27:04Speaker 3: 142 games played with three to go. He's put together–
- 27:08Speaker 3: he's established himself as a major leaguer for real. And
- 27:13Speaker 3: that's two good years in a row with the Twins
- 27:15Speaker 3: who got him for cash considerations last year.
- 27:19Speaker 5: They claimed him. Philadelphia was moving on.
- 27:22Speaker 3: They didn't have enough at-bats, and the Twins were like,
- 27:24Speaker 3: we have opportunity and Cody Clemens has seized it and
- 27:27Speaker 3: been very good. I, uh.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Because I went with Taj for most improved, I actually
- 27:34Speaker 1: gave this one to Brooks Lee. Uh, he's right there
- 27:38Speaker 1: at the top of just about every, every metric maybe
- 27:41Speaker 1: didn't have the memorable moments as much, but I think
- 27:45Speaker 1: also just the, the willingness and on the move to
- 27:48Speaker 1: third base and taking so well to that position, uh,
- 27:51Speaker 1: as Dan pointed out earlier has unlocked some things for
- 27:53Speaker 1: this team, going forward and has been a great defensive
- 27:57Speaker 1: move as well. So most reliable player just in the lineup,
- 28:01Speaker 1: best defender, and the best hitter argument is sort of.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Up in the air.
- 28:07Speaker 1: So that's where I went with that one. All right.
- 28:10Speaker 1: We have one final award to hand out. It's near
- 28:14Speaker 1: and dear to our hearts. We asked for, well, first
- 28:19Speaker 1: we voted internally on what we're calling the Hammonager of
- 28:22Speaker 1: the Year, which is your favorite Twin Cities territory, either
- 28:26Speaker 1: host or guest. So the eligible candidates were the three
- 28:31Speaker 1: of us, the unknown stranger that has been on the
- 28:34Speaker 1: show a couple of times. We still don't know who
- 28:36Speaker 1: he is. Or Pablo Lopez, who of course was a
- 28:40Speaker 1: guest early.
- 28:40Speaker 4: In the season.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Unknown stranger was unanimously winning this award until I realized
- 28:48Speaker 1: really it should be an award for the people who
- 28:50Speaker 1: watch the show. So I put it out on X
- 28:54Speaker 1: and Dan retweeted it and Pablo Lopez surged to the lead.
- 28:58Speaker 2: Go figure.
- 29:00Speaker 1: So now that I've taken all the drama out of it,
- 29:02Speaker 1: your winner of the Hamminger of the Year is Pablo Lopez. Congratulations.
- 29:10Speaker 1: One appearance on the show, but what an appearance it was.
- 29:13Speaker 1: We really do Appreciate him coming on. I'm telling you, Dan,
- 29:17Speaker 1: you should go tell these guys they won these awards.
- 29:19Speaker 1: See if they want to record a little acceptance speech
- 29:22Speaker 1: for us.
- 29:23Speaker 3: I'll see what I can do. What are we giving them?
- 29:28Speaker 3: Are we giving them a plate of ham and eggs?
- 29:30Speaker 3: I just walk up with a hot plate of ham
- 29:32Speaker 3: and eggs in the clubhouse.
- 29:34Speaker 7: Go get a pound of boar's head and just stop
- 29:36Speaker 7: at Whole Foods on the way and just go to the,
- 29:38Speaker 7: you know, self-serve and here you go.
- 29:44Speaker 1: It was, it was a disappointing result for Unknown Stranger.
- 29:49Speaker 1: And thankfully he agreed to come on and talk about it. Finishing,
- 29:54Speaker 1: actually he didn't even finish second place, Dan, because, you know,
- 29:57Speaker 1: shrewdly you, tweeted it to your followers. You surged into
- 30:00Speaker 1: some place in the voting. So well done there, but, uh,
- 30:05Speaker 1: unknown stranger.
- 30:06Speaker 6: Welcome.
- 30:06Speaker 1: It's gotta be kind of a tough break, huh?
- 30:11Speaker 4: Yeah. Thanks for having me on. I mean, I'm a
- 30:13Speaker 4: little pissed off to be honest. Like you're telling me
- 30:15Speaker 4: I was winning the vote and then some mysterious late
- 30:20Speaker 4: ballots unverified come in from nowhere. And suddenly Pablo Lopez
- 30:24Speaker 4: is the winner. I mean, This is ridiculous. He was
- 30:28Speaker 4: in one episode.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I mean, you were only in two.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Okay, maybe. But still, you know, you put a lot
- 30:34Speaker 4: of effort into something. You make an ass of yourself
- 30:37Speaker 4: by walking out, giving up on the Twins. Then you
- 30:40Speaker 4: prove vindicated. They don't make the playoffs. And you think
- 30:42Speaker 4: you're going to have something to show for it. And
- 30:44Speaker 4: this is ridiculous. I demand to see the voting machines.
- 30:48Speaker 4: Give me the voting machines.
- 30:48Speaker 2: All right, all right, all right, all right.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Enough of that. Enough of that.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yeah, get him out of here.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Disgruntled, but.
- 30:53Speaker 2: You guys have been drinking already.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Zach, how were you in two places at once? How
- 30:56Speaker 5: were you... That was impressive stuff.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Don't really know what you're talking about, actually.
- 31:02Speaker 7: Maybe we'll get him a new shower.
- 31:06Speaker 2: We'll find a good handyman in town and get.
- 31:09Speaker 5: Him hooked up.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Get a TV in there so he doesn't have to
- 31:11Speaker 1: turn off the game.
- 31:12Speaker 2: One of those cool mirrors.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Twins have Texas this weekend. Last chance to get out
- 31:19Speaker 1: to a game if you want. I actually might make
- 31:21Speaker 1: it on Sunday because they're handing out mystery squishies.
- 31:25Speaker 2: It's all about that.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I should try SeatGeek. I'm assuming they're still a sponsor. Dan,
- 31:31Speaker 1: anything we need to know about the team?
- 31:34Speaker 3: We could just say real quick, bringing the mood down,
- 31:39Speaker 3: the twins parted ways mutually with assistant GM Daniel Adler yesterday.
- 31:46Speaker 3: That was something that I don't think it's really that
- 31:49Speaker 3: shocking because Daniel Adler, his new role was more like
- 31:53Speaker 3: a COO. where he was doing business and baseball ops
- 31:58Speaker 3: and had done less and less on the baseball ops side.
- 32:01Speaker 5: He gave up international scouting to move over there. And
- 32:05Speaker 5: it was really tied to Derek Falvey.
- 32:06Speaker 3: And I think when Derek Falvey left, that made him
- 32:10Speaker 3: realize his time was probably coming to an end. He's
- 32:12Speaker 3: still under contract with them. So he started looking. And
- 32:17Speaker 3: I think that, you know, both sides agreed it was
- 32:20Speaker 3: time to move on.
- 32:21Speaker 5: So.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Not much on the baseball side. We're going to see
- 32:24Speaker 3: Kalen Culpepper Saturday and Sunday. Derek Shelton, he was supposed
- 32:32Speaker 3: to run the bases Thursday, I believe, and Friday, but
- 32:38Speaker 3: was progressing well. They seemed pretty confident he was going
- 32:43Speaker 3: to be back, so we'll see him, I think, activated
- 32:46Speaker 3: Saturday unless something went wrong the last two days. And
- 32:50Speaker 3: so we'll get a chance potentially to see that trio, Culpepper, Jenkins, and, uh,
- 32:57Speaker 3: Emmanuel Rodriguez.
- 32:58Speaker 5: And, and obviously Luke Kieschel should be out there too.
- 33:01Speaker 3: So for, you know, top 50 kind of players on
- 33:05Speaker 3: the field at the same time.
- 33:06Speaker 2: First round picks we can get on the field at once.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:10Speaker 5: There's a lot of those.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Uh, Friday night tonight is a seven, 10 star Joe
- 33:15Speaker 1: Ryan and Jacob de Grom. I see here Saturday, uh,
- 33:19Speaker 1: Bailey Ober in a 3-10 start against TBD Sunday. 2-10 start,
- 33:24Speaker 1: Dean Kramer and Mackenzie Gore. It was originally going to
- 33:27Speaker 1: be Ryan Kramer-Matthews. I guess they decided to give Ober
- 33:31Speaker 1: another start in there.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Yeah, they wanted to give him a final start at
- 33:36Speaker 3: the weekend just because he's a vet. He means a
- 33:38Speaker 3: lot to this team. Now they need to win two,
- 33:42Speaker 3: and they need to get Tommy Nance and Zebby Matthews' saves.
- 33:49Speaker 3: so that they can tie the all-time record for most
- 33:51Speaker 3: pitchers with a save this season. We thought Tommy Nance
- 33:55Speaker 3: was getting the save in San Francisco on Wednesday. He
- 33:58Speaker 3: stood up for a second, but they went with Andrew Morris.
- 34:00Speaker 3: I think I win two more now and do it
- 34:03Speaker 3: that way.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Nothing for the Twins to play for, but pride, of course.
- 34:08Speaker 1: If they sweep, Dan, you will finish one game off
- 34:11Speaker 1: on your prediction at the beginning of the season. I
- 34:13Speaker 1: went back and watched. You said 79-83.
- 34:15Speaker 5: I was 79, yeah. I was optimistic. I was optimistic.
- 34:19Speaker 5: Did you say 78?
- 34:21Speaker 1: I said 82 and 80. I was super optimistic. So,
- 34:24Speaker 1: but regardless, uh, you know, I think 75, which they're
- 34:28Speaker 1: at now was about the highest prediction. Anybody, anybody had
- 34:31Speaker 1: most were lower 70. So, um, they will at least meet,
- 34:35Speaker 1: if not exceed that a little bit, but they can
- 34:37Speaker 1: also play spoiler to Texas. They enter in a virtual
- 34:39Speaker 1: tie with Houston. They're both, they're both 79 and 80
- 34:43Speaker 1: top the AL West.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Um, The playoff push.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Houston has the tiebreaker, and they're playing at Sacramento. It
- 34:51Speaker 3: was close last night.
- 34:52Speaker 2: But unhoused.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Is there a game 163 for a division title?
- 34:57Speaker 4: No, there's not. No, there's not. Okay.
- 35:00Speaker 1: So even one Twins win might be very, very bad
- 35:05Speaker 1: for Texas.
- 35:05Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 35:05Speaker 1: But final series, we'll be back with you on Monday.
- 35:08Speaker 1: Another reminder that starting next week, we're going to two
- 35:11Speaker 1: shows a week for the offseason. Those will likely be
- 35:14Speaker 1: Mondays and Thursdays going forward, but we will update you
- 35:19Speaker 1: as we know. So we'll see you all on Monday.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Have a great weekend. If you like what you hear,
