- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to today's episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: One of my very best friends in the world is a guy named Eric Elder.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Eric is a musician, author, and creative genius who runs a spiritual retreat center on the internet.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: It's called The Ranch, and you can find it at theranch.org.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: A few years ago, Eric and I were on a call and he showed me how he keeps motivated to finish the books that he started writing.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: And then Eric held up another person's book, and to the front of that book, he had taped a mock-up cover for the book that he was currently working on.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And Eric already knew in advance the print size of his book, so he made sure to choose another print book of the same size.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And I thought this was a pretty cool idea, and I've been doing the same thing ever since.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Anytime that I'm working on a book, I always have the cover designed as early in the writing process as I possibly can.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Then I find another print book of the same size that my book's going to be, and I tape a printout of my book cover to the front of that other book, and then I keep it on my desk during the whole writing and publishing process.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And what this does is it helps make the book feel tangible and real instead of being just a digital file that sits on your computer.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: It also helps you make it through the rough spots in the writing and editing process.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: When you keep the vision of the final product clear and you can see it sitting right in front of you, you're going to feel much more motivated to keep going in the writing process.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So I really, really encourage you to do this.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Print out a mock-up of your book cover, tape it to another book of the same size, and keep it there on your desk as you're working on your book.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: It really helps you get through those rough times.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: And if so, have you printed it out and attached it to another book of the same size so you can keep your vision clear.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: By the way, before I close out this episode, I want to encourage you to check out my friend Eric Elder's website.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: You can find it at theranch.org.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Lots and lots of great stuff there.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: He's a wonderful musician, author, and friend.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So make sure and check it out.
