Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, Wits and Weights family, I just have a quick bonus episode for you.
- 0:02Speaker 1: I was thinking about the word physique.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Actually, I think about it quite a bit because of Physique University, and when you think of that word, you probably think six-pack, abs, muscles, symmetry, the stuff that we see visually, the stuff that you see on your Instagram feed.
- 0:17Speaker 1: But that is really just scratching the surface, because I believe that physique isn't just about how you look.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It is about all the things with your body how you move, how you feel, how your body supports you through your life.
- 0:31Speaker 1: So I was thinking what do we mean by physique?
- 0:34Speaker 1: What are the different elements that you can represent with your physique?
- 0:37Speaker 1: The first one is physique as strength.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Right, Physique isn't just for show.
- 0:42Speaker 1: It's like the engine that lets you, you know, do all the things you do in life.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The stronger you are, the more muscle you build, the more resilient your body becomes.
- 0:49Speaker 1: It, then, is part of your physical identity.
- 0:51Speaker 1: It is proof that your physique is working for you, you know, not just against gravity, just to keep you alive into decrepitude of old age.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That's a really meaningful thing.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Then we have physique as function.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Can you carry your groceries in one trip and like I like to do with my ego.
- 1:08Speaker 1: 10 bags at a time?
- 1:10Speaker 1: Can you sprint after your kids or grandkids hike up a mountain without stopping?
- 1:14Speaker 1: You know that is your physique in action, that's in motion as function.
- 1:18Speaker 1: A true, you know, capable physique isn't static, but it's dynamic, allows you to do more, to live more, to engage more fully with the world.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Then we have physique as health.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This is massive.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Muscle mass is protective against disease.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Strength training improves bone density, insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular function.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Your physique literally extends your lifespan and your quality of life.
- 1:42Speaker 1: So, again, it's not just about looking good but also living well.
- 1:47Speaker 1: And finally, we have physique as confidence and identity.
- 1:51Speaker 1: This is mental, emotional health.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Your physique tells your story.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It reflects your discipline, your care, your growth, the attention you put into yourself.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It's not about fitting into an ideal but really owning your body composition as your version of whatever optimal means strong, capable, healthy.
- 2:11Speaker 1: So the next time you hear the word physique, I want you to go beyond picturing just biceps and how you look.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Think about strength, think function, think health and think identity.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That, to me, is the true definition, it's the one that I want you to carry with you on this journey.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And if this is home.
- 2:30Speaker 1: If you enjoyed this very short episode, which hopefully my thoughts helped you reframe what physique means, all I want you to do is text this episode with a friend.
- 2:38Speaker 1: That's it.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Just share this with someone else who might find it interesting and make sure you're following this podcast for our next big episode, and I will see you on Monday.
