Transcript
- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into jag Zamas Monday. I'm Kenannie Stephens, Brian Sexton,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and John Oser with me today as we have to
- 0:22Speaker 1: talk things out after the Jaguars Eagles game. The Jaguars
- 0:25Speaker 1: rallying furiously in the second half, but wasn't meant to
- 0:28Speaker 1: be as they come up short once again, falling to
- 0:30Speaker 1: two and seven. Start with big things what might have been.
- 0:34Speaker 1: There's plenty of opportunities in the second half after another
- 0:37Speaker 1: slow start from the offense in the first half. And Brian,
- 0:39Speaker 1: it's just it sounds like a broken record at this point.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We've talked about this a lot, but it's just been
- 0:43Speaker 1: frustrating to.
- 0:44Speaker 2: See without a doubt. But you know, yesterday with first
- 0:47Speaker 2: and goals first and ten, I think at a thirteen
- 0:49Speaker 2: yard line you had a chance, at least I thought
- 0:52Speaker 2: to have one of those seasoned saving kind of wins.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Not that you're going to the super Bowl because of it,
- 0:57Speaker 2: but you break the chain of these close losses where
- 0:59Speaker 2: you you lose at the end by going into Philly
- 1:02Speaker 2: in a game that you had no business winning, and winning,
- 1:06Speaker 2: I thought it was going to be that sort of
- 1:08Speaker 2: come from behind situation that we've been waiting for all
- 1:11Speaker 2: season long. That would If it doesn't change where you're
- 1:15Speaker 2: headed into the postseason, at least it changes the storyline
- 1:18Speaker 2: and gives people a reason to come watch you play
- 1:21Speaker 2: next week against Minnesota, to be excited about Salute to
- 1:24Speaker 2: Service Sunday and what's possible for your football team. They
- 1:27Speaker 2: were right there what might have been was a season
- 1:30Speaker 2: saving victory.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:33Speaker 4: I hoped for what you were talking about, Brian, even
- 1:37Speaker 4: on the thirteen.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I probably, like a lot of Jags fans.
- 1:41Speaker 4: I was kind of waiting for something bad to happen
- 1:44Speaker 4: that I wanted to happen. But that's sort of what's
- 1:46Speaker 4: defined to this team is those big plays in the
- 1:49Speaker 4: big moments. And in a way I hate when you
- 1:54Speaker 4: try to find a microcosm of the season, but in
- 1:57Speaker 4: a sense, that had a feel to it because five
- 2:00Speaker 4: losses by five or less points, all side in the
- 2:02Speaker 4: last two minutes. If this team was good in that situation, uh,
- 2:07Speaker 4: they'd be a playoff contender.
- 2:08Speaker 3: But they're not.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Let's go to our second big thing today, which is defended,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and I'm gonna defend the defense a little bit. We've
- 2:13Speaker 1: talked a lot about the issues that we've seen on defense,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and yes, overall, did they allow a lot of yards,
- 2:19Speaker 1: of course, but John, they played pretty well in moments
- 2:21Speaker 1: when they needed to, they got a score, they got
- 2:24Speaker 1: s forced turno forcing turnovers, and then just overall, I
- 2:28Speaker 1: felt they played good enough to win the game. It
- 2:29Speaker 1: was just again, that's so start from the offense. I
- 2:31Speaker 1: feel like they're always behind the eight ball.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Yeah, and I I hate to beat the same theme
- 2:38Speaker 4: in the big situation. They dropped yesterday. And what I
- 2:41Speaker 4: mean by that is third and nineteen and you give
- 2:44Speaker 4: up a draw play to Saquon Barkley, third and twenty
- 2:47Speaker 4: two and you give a touchdown. Now, those are the
- 2:50Speaker 4: moments that they're talking about back in the back. Overall,
- 2:53Speaker 4: Kyie right, it it was a it w It was
- 2:56Speaker 4: a fine effort, But I thought those moments were talking
- 2:58Speaker 4: about great players made those plays for the Eagles and
- 3:04Speaker 4: beat a Jaguars defense that put forth the effort enough
- 3:09Speaker 4: to win but couldn't do in the big moment.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Although you know, I get a new credit. Listen, they
- 3:13Speaker 2: were on the field with seven minutes and forty nine
- 3:15Speaker 2: seconds left in the fourth quarter. They'd been on the
- 3:16Speaker 2: field for thirty five minutes. They gave up the touchdown drive,
- 3:21Speaker 2: but then they came back on the next drive John
- 3:23Speaker 2: and on third down and two, Devon Hamilton stopped Saquon
- 3:27Speaker 2: Barkley and forces a fifty seven yard field goal that
- 3:30Speaker 2: gave the offense the ball back fifty five yards from
- 3:33Speaker 2: a game winning drive. Did they make mistakes, yes, but
- 3:36Speaker 2: we've talked about it so many times on this show
- 3:39Speaker 2: through the years. You ask a defense the way the
- 3:41Speaker 2: rules are written to break serve. They broke serf and
- 3:45Speaker 2: the offense failed them. Yesterday, I thought the defense did
- 3:48Speaker 2: a hell of a job.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And just not playing complimentary football, as we talk about
- 3:51Speaker 1: all the time. It's like when the defense plays well,
- 3:53Speaker 1: then the offense isn't playing well, and the offense finally
- 3:55Speaker 1: gets together, the defense struggles too. So it's been difficult
- 3:57Speaker 1: all around. SOS our final big thing today, Please send help.
- 4:01Speaker 1: At this point, we don't really know what's going on.
- 4:03Speaker 1: We talk about the same things every single week, and
- 4:05Speaker 1: Doug Peterson's feeling the frustration as well.
- 4:08Speaker 5: It's hard to process when you lose, right, But I
- 4:14Speaker 5: do think there are some great plays out there, you know,
- 4:16Speaker 5: and that's one of Trayvon's play obviously, you know, we
- 4:22Speaker 5: capitalize on two two point conversions in the game.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know, so there are some there are some.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Good plays, you know, some it's just not it's just
- 4:31Speaker 5: not consistent enough.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Ryan, Let's look on the bright side a little bit.
- 4:35Speaker 1: That Traybon play was one of the bright moments in
- 4:37Speaker 1: that game. They show resilience and they battle back, but
- 4:39Speaker 1: it's almost they dig themselves into big of a hole
- 4:41Speaker 1: to start with.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, they did, and the whole came from the offense.
- 4:44Speaker 2: So so choose you know, does it? What does SOS
- 4:46Speaker 2: stand for? Same old stories, same offensive struggles? Save our season?
- 4:50Speaker 2: I mean, the offense for the third straight week, third
- 4:54Speaker 2: straight week, found themselves with fewer than twenty five yards
- 4:58Speaker 2: in the first quarter, with no points and finding themselves
- 5:03Speaker 2: in a ten nothing hole because they couldn't even function.
- 5:06Speaker 2: How is that possible? I had a conversation with Press
- 5:08Speaker 2: Taylor on the practice field last week to talk about it.
- 5:11Speaker 2: He was convinced they would break through it. Look, I
- 5:14Speaker 2: get it, the Eagles defense is good, but the Jaguars
- 5:16Speaker 2: offense has to be good enough to get something going.
- 5:19Speaker 2: You know what do the Eagles have over two hundred
- 5:22Speaker 2: rushing yards? Well, we said, John, you're not gonna totally
- 5:24Speaker 2: shut down the Eagles running game. They're really good at it,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and they do it consistently. What did the Jaguars do
- 5:31Speaker 2: on offense that you say, well, you're not gonna shut
- 5:33Speaker 2: that down? They got that. The answer is nothing.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, start out slowly maybe, I mean, so that's what
- 5:41Speaker 4: they've been right now. It's who they are. I don't
- 5:45Speaker 4: know the answers to that. But as Brian, as he
- 5:48Speaker 4: pointed out to me, for the last three games, they've
- 5:50Speaker 4: been in ten nothing holes. They were able to get
- 5:53Speaker 4: out of that hole and beat a team that's struggling
- 5:55Speaker 4: in New England.
- 5:57Speaker 3: It's hard to.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Get out of that hole consistently against contending teams because
- 6:02Speaker 4: once you're in that hole, even though you come back,
- 6:04Speaker 4: they're still playing downhill on you.
- 6:06Speaker 3: And that had that feel yesterday.
- 6:09Speaker 1: All right, stay with us here on Jagzam. Coming up
- 6:11Speaker 1: after the break, we'll go over the highlights from yesterday
- 6:13Speaker 1: against the Eagles. Welcome back to Jagzam, brought to you
- 6:23Speaker 1: by Field's Auto Group, Jacksonville's premier luxury auto group. Can
- 6:26Speaker 1: head over to Fieldsauto dot com check that out. Welcome
- 6:33Speaker 1: back into jag Zam today on this Monday, after the
- 6:36Speaker 1: first half. I was sitting with John the pressbox in Phildelphia.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know what these highlights are
- 6:40Speaker 1: going to look like because of what the offense looked
- 6:42Speaker 1: like in the first half. And I will say they
- 6:44Speaker 1: make it entertaining. And it's frustrating as it is. That
- 6:47Speaker 1: game felt like three different.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Games in one, even if you're looking for a reason
- 6:51Speaker 2: to be positive. And I think at some point this
- 6:54Speaker 2: week people will y'all are the last two weeks you've
- 6:56Speaker 2: seen the Packers who have won six games, and you
- 6:59Speaker 2: had a chance to win that game. And people were
- 7:01Speaker 2: saying before the week, after the way the Jaguars played,
- 7:03Speaker 2: they're gonna get hammered by the Packers. Well they didn't, right,
- 7:05Speaker 2: they didn't win, but they had a chance to win
- 7:08Speaker 2: because the quarterback played so well and got him down
- 7:10Speaker 2: the field and the defense imploded well. And then yesterday,
- 7:14Speaker 2: you know, the quarterback doesn't play well and the defense
- 7:18Speaker 2: does and they're down twenty two nothing, but at the
- 7:20Speaker 2: end they still had a chance to make something happen.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So it is extremely frustrating to watch this team. Right now, all.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Right, let's relive it. So that sounds so fun just
- 7:31Speaker 1: to start the game, Austin Tramill gets called up because
- 7:35Speaker 1: of the issues with wide receivers, so he's now returning
- 7:38Speaker 1: punts and the fumble immediately off the bat after you
- 7:41Speaker 1: see the defense force a punt and then immediately to
- 7:44Speaker 1: have a fumble. It was just like John is it
- 7:46Speaker 1: just felt like it was beginning right there or you're.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Like, well, a storyline was they had to start fast,
- 7:51Speaker 4: and you know, you couldn't turn the ball over to
- 7:53Speaker 4: this team, and that's what I don't know what to say.
- 7:57Speaker 3: This is not a fast start you gave him.
- 8:01Speaker 4: You gifted them seven points. And as well as you
- 8:03Speaker 4: play after that, you know the field is tilted against
- 8:08Speaker 4: you on the road and it would have taken a
- 8:10Speaker 4: superhuman effort by any measure to even get over this play, right,
- 8:14Speaker 4: So uh, you know.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Because it's it's hindsight's so easy right here. But do
- 8:23Speaker 2: you need the guy you just pull up off the
- 8:24Speaker 2: practice squad returning hunt? I mean, when you got Parker Washington,
- 8:28Speaker 2: who I know is going to have a role in
- 8:29Speaker 2: the office, but he has been so reliable there. I
- 8:32Speaker 2: think in a day where I'm going to be up
- 8:34Speaker 2: against it, I stick with reliable. How about this yeah, yeah, Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 2: that would have been good.
- 8:40Speaker 1: That would have been good. All right after that, Saquon
- 8:42Speaker 1: obviously had a day but touchdowns, catching, receiving touchdowns, rushing touchdowns,
- 8:47Speaker 1: then a couple of ridiculous plays that we're going to
- 8:50Speaker 1: see for many, many years to come. But he's just
- 8:55Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what the Giants were doing,
- 8:56Speaker 1: but Saequon is still such an amazing talent. To see
- 8:59Speaker 1: it was. We knew it was gonna be a problem
- 9:01Speaker 1: no matter what.
- 9:02Speaker 2: As bad as you feel about the way that he
- 9:03Speaker 2: treated you, I felt worse for the Giants because how
- 9:07Speaker 2: do you let a player like that go? This is
- 9:10Speaker 2: a generational talent and he's healthy and playing well for
- 9:15Speaker 2: your division rival. I mean, if you're the Giants this morning,
- 9:19Speaker 2: you just get your head and your hands going, what
- 9:21Speaker 2: do they do? We let that guy out of the building.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 4: We've been talking all year about whether Jews are talented enough,
- 9:32Speaker 4: and you Ays have a lot of good players. I
- 9:34Speaker 4: don't think they have anybody who's as good as Saquon Barkley.
- 9:37Speaker 4: And they have two wide receivers who frankly are better
- 9:40Speaker 4: than this team's wide receivers, big playmakers and I'm not
- 9:45Speaker 4: trying to harp on this roster. I'm just saying that yesterday,
- 9:49Speaker 4: that's why the Eagles won this game. Yeah, because in
- 9:51Speaker 4: the big moments, the biggest plays in November, when it matters,
- 9:57Speaker 4: when stuff's getting weird, you depend your great players make
- 10:01Speaker 4: great plays at great times, and the Eagles did that.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Let's take a look at this video that we're going
- 10:05Speaker 1: to see for the rest of time with Sakon hurtling
- 10:08Speaker 1: over Jarian Jones backwards in the air. Because he's a
- 10:12Speaker 1: very talented man, and I still don't know how exactly
- 10:15Speaker 1: he does all of these things. But I felt for
- 10:17Speaker 1: Jarian in that very moment because I'm sure that's a
- 10:19Speaker 1: photo or a post somewhere already.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think it was different, right.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I was gonna say, there's a couple of years ago
- 10:26Speaker 4: everyone mays the the Derek.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Right, that was bad to have. I think Joran didn't
- 10:33Speaker 3: wrong here.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It was who thought he was going to turn around
- 10:35Speaker 2: and jump over your backwards?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:37Speaker 4: When my son played tennis, there were times where the
- 10:40Speaker 4: other player was better and you'd walk back to the
- 10:42Speaker 4: baseline say I didn't know I was playing god today?
- 10:44Speaker 3: Well, I mean this is what do you do well,
- 10:48Speaker 3: Jerry and Jones. Good. I didn't know they were send
- 10:50Speaker 3: God down the field.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Who would have thought that he would have done something
- 10:53Speaker 2: like that. But he's strong enough and athletic enough to
- 10:56Speaker 2: be able to do what he wants on the field.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Sure, let's look at Trevor first interception here a pass
- 11:02Speaker 1: to Travis y Tann who we haven't seen it on
- 11:04Speaker 1: the field for while because he's been working with that
- 11:05Speaker 1: hamstring injury. And then you see this, and then brand
- 11:07Speaker 1: I think you just mentioned we didn't see much from
- 11:08Speaker 1: Travis after that involvement in the game. I know they
- 11:10Speaker 1: were throwing it a lot, but still we didn't even
- 11:12Speaker 1: see much involved in that.
- 11:13Speaker 2: This is hindsight. That is good, hindsight good. I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 2: I just there's not a lot of confidence in him
- 11:19Speaker 2: right now. That that was a crushing moment because again,
- 11:24Speaker 2: the defense had gotten them off the field and you're
- 11:26Speaker 2: only down ten to nothing with you know, four forty
- 11:30Speaker 2: nine I think left to play in the first half,
- 11:32Speaker 2: and that's the results. I wouldn't have put him back
- 11:36Speaker 2: in either.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I will go the other way and give him
- 11:41Speaker 4: a little bit of the benefit of doubt. Not on
- 11:44Speaker 4: this play but he was coming off a hammy. I
- 11:48Speaker 4: don't know if in the second half they had talked
- 11:51Speaker 4: about using him a little limited yesterday, so I don't
- 11:54Speaker 4: know how'd put him back in either. I just wanted
- 11:56Speaker 4: to point out it there was that didn't cause this
- 11:59Speaker 4: playrow to.
- 12:00Speaker 2: Him, right, because that was a good game plan to
- 12:03Speaker 2: be able to move the ball as like the running game.
- 12:05Speaker 2: We talked about West Coast and what you got on.
- 12:08Speaker 4: So maybe the hammy came into play in second half,
- 12:10Speaker 4: but you can't make that play.
- 12:11Speaker 1: No after that, Saquon another crazy rushing touchdown at this
- 12:15Speaker 1: one before the half.
- 12:18Speaker 3: This was this was excusable.
- 12:19Speaker 1: This was this was It was just Yeah, everybody was
- 12:22Speaker 1: just waiting for him to get to the I don't
- 12:24Speaker 1: even know what they were.
- 12:25Speaker 4: As Foyer said, you can't give up a draw on
- 12:28Speaker 4: third and nineteen. I mean at third and seventeenth from
- 12:30Speaker 4: the nineteen, you have a chance to go in halftime
- 12:33Speaker 4: thirteen compared to sixteen. H you know, and it's an email. Hey, they'
- 12:38Speaker 4: show a lot of quid on that play. I didn't
- 12:40Speaker 4: see this quit. It was you know, ohe They weren't trying.
- 12:43Speaker 4: It was just they left a huge gap the second
- 12:46Speaker 4: half show, there was no quid.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Oh oh, look at Nick? Look at Nick?
- 12:51Speaker 2: Is that the play before? He was losing his mind
- 12:53Speaker 2: because he thought that it was defensive past interference, not
- 12:56Speaker 2: offensive passing interference on his tight end and then he
- 13:00Speaker 2: to go racing down the sideline like that because you
- 13:03Speaker 2: give up this.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, Saquon made some superhuman plays. A lot
- 13:09Speaker 4: of guys can made that flock.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Well. He made his coach look good because his coach
- 13:12Speaker 2: made some decisions that would have gotten him.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And they're not forgetting about it either.
- 13:17Speaker 2: In Philly they rarely do. But he got lucky that
- 13:19Speaker 2: Saquon bailed him out on a couple of them.
- 13:21Speaker 3: He did.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Let's take a look at this other crazy catch over
- 13:24Speaker 1: Tyson Campbell. AJ Brown left the game with injury, but
- 13:27Speaker 1: Dotson stepped up in his place. And I just there
- 13:29Speaker 1: was three specific plays from their offense that I was like,
- 13:33Speaker 1: we're gonna see these clips a million times after the fact,
- 13:36Speaker 1: and I don't even know if I feel overly bad
- 13:38Speaker 1: about this when I feel like some of them were
- 13:39Speaker 1: well defended. It's just again, John, you're mentioning these well,
- 13:43Speaker 1: not Missarli Dotson, but like DeVante Smith's play. We'll see later.
- 13:47Speaker 1: They're just superhuman talents and some of these are just
- 13:49Speaker 1: really good plays.
- 13:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it's again.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I keep going back to the NFL is these plays,
- 13:54Speaker 4: and the Jaguars had one last week where Evan Ingram
- 13:57Speaker 4: made a play that's on par with this, right, but
- 14:01Speaker 4: haven't had enough of those, and it again, thought that
- 14:05Speaker 4: was so clearly the difference in the game yesterday was
- 14:08Speaker 4: five or six big plays by really really you know,
- 14:12Speaker 4: Pro Bowl caliber type guys at key positions.
- 14:18Speaker 1: All right. I think this was the point in the
- 14:19Speaker 1: game where I was like, all right, I can write
- 14:20Speaker 1: all our stuff, get ready for the show. And then
- 14:22Speaker 1: all of a sudden, the Jaggers decided to show up
- 14:24Speaker 1: late the third quarter and you know, getting a touchdown
- 14:28Speaker 1: first from Trevor finally get the offense going, and then
- 14:30Speaker 1: to see the turnover from Treymon that was as well,
- 14:32Speaker 1: to get a defensive score, which we haven't seen from
- 14:35Speaker 1: them much this year. I wasn't surprised because they keep
- 14:39Speaker 1: doing this, and that's why it's so frustrating, because it's
- 14:41Speaker 1: not like they're getting blown out by fifty every game.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It's like, oh, they just try to dig themselves out
- 14:45Speaker 1: after they've dug such a large hole that it's almost impossible.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So to see Sneak's work a little bit was impressive,
- 14:52Speaker 1: especially because they were stopping the toush push the other way.
- 14:54Speaker 3: So it did work late. I know, oh a year
- 14:57Speaker 3: really all, be honest.
- 14:59Speaker 4: I was because in this situation when you get down
- 15:03Speaker 4: to the Eagles twenty two at their place, and frankly
- 15:06Speaker 4: they needed a big break to get back in.
- 15:09Speaker 3: I'm not just counting the effort.
- 15:10Speaker 4: After that, they got a break. I think they'll be
- 15:14Speaker 4: talk about getting Trayvon some carries.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Yeah, listen, I mean to play and he played it.
- 15:19Speaker 3: He was ready for it. Listen.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Josh had the two sacks, but he had six solo
- 15:23Speaker 2: tackles and a couple were lost. He pushed the pocket
- 15:26Speaker 2: from where he was. I thought Trayvan was playing a
- 15:28Speaker 2: whale of a game. And then the ball bounced and
- 15:30Speaker 2: he wouldn't go down. It was great play, you know.
- 15:33Speaker 1: He was like, this is my moment to shine and
- 15:34Speaker 1: he went for it.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Well, this is the kind of athlete he is. I
- 15:37Speaker 4: mean he I joked about him getting carries. He'd probably
- 15:39Speaker 4: played a little fullback. I mean, he's at he's athletic.
- 15:44Speaker 4: He's everything you want. He's having a really good year.
- 15:47Speaker 4: And this is one of those highlight plays that you know,
- 15:52Speaker 4: I don't know that a normal level athletic defensive player
- 15:56Speaker 4: could have made.
- 15:57Speaker 2: This, just the move he made it about the seven
- 15:58Speaker 2: yard line to go inside the corner. I mean, you
- 16:01Speaker 2: don't see a lot of big guys thinking about that
- 16:04Speaker 2: and or able to execute it.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Well, here's a high end basketball, oh man, a high
- 16:08Speaker 3: end basketball.
- 16:09Speaker 2: How he navigates and watch him bounce off of or
- 16:13Speaker 2: I should say, the defensive offensive lineman who hits him
- 16:16Speaker 2: and tries to knock him down and Trayvon just bounces.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Yeah, the first guy wasn't gonna bring him, then no chance.
- 16:23Speaker 2: And then once he got running.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Yeah stuff.
- 16:26Speaker 4: And it's the kind of play that can spark you
- 16:31Speaker 4: get you back in it. And I didn't think it
- 16:33Speaker 4: was impressive. After this, they took advantage of it and
- 16:35Speaker 4: stayed in it. It could have easily Oh you're out manned.
- 16:38Speaker 4: They're gonna come down. Either're gonna come down and roll
- 16:40Speaker 4: you the rest of the way. The Jaguars got back
- 16:42Speaker 4: in it and the offense played better. You just wonder
- 16:44Speaker 4: why couldn't happen in the first half.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 16:47Speaker 1: This week, here's our third play of the Eagles. I
- 16:50Speaker 1: feel like we're gonna see a million more times. But
- 16:53Speaker 1: the Monte Smith's catching the end zone where just the
- 16:56Speaker 1: foot control to get the taps in, that is special
- 17:01Speaker 1: And I think.
- 17:01Speaker 4: Well, again, third and twenty two, the gut punch of
- 17:05Speaker 4: just like the Barkley play in the first half, this
- 17:07Speaker 4: is a situational game. When you get third and twenty
- 17:10Speaker 4: two in third and nineteen in the first half. Numbers
- 17:16Speaker 4: all that you know about football tells you it's gonna
- 17:18Speaker 4: be three. It's gonna be three points each time. Yeah, well,
- 17:21Speaker 4: if they hold into three points each time, then it's
- 17:24Speaker 4: a different game.
- 17:25Speaker 3: But in those.
- 17:27Speaker 4: Moments, to keep saying that we'd this year, in those moments,
- 17:30Speaker 4: this team made huge plays.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Because they have some special players in those positions.
- 17:36Speaker 2: They got aj Brown lined up on a key third
- 17:38Speaker 2: down against Ronald Darby and he executed for twenty yards.
- 17:41Speaker 2: There was the forty six yarder that set this touchdown up,
- 17:44Speaker 2: and then this touchdown. They got the matchup they wanted
- 17:46Speaker 2: and they took advantage of it. It was a great throw,
- 17:48Speaker 2: but obviously a highlight reel spectacular.
- 17:51Speaker 1: Touch Trevor Lawrence touchdown after this, because again you're like, oh, okay,
- 17:56Speaker 1: now they're you know, it's solidified again. But again the
- 17:59Speaker 1: Jaguars coming back in Tarbor getting another touchdown, and then
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'm happy they're being resilient and fighting through these games
- 18:08Speaker 1: because I don't want to see quit and I'm not
- 18:10Speaker 1: encouraging quit. It's just I why is it so hard
- 18:15Speaker 1: in the first half? Why can we do these things
- 18:17Speaker 1: in the second time?
- 18:19Speaker 3: As good as these teams?
- 18:20Speaker 4: Yeah, let's just say, you know, and I'm not trying to,
- 18:24Speaker 4: you know, overly criticize anybody, but.
- 18:28Speaker 3: They have proven this year. They're two and seven.
- 18:30Speaker 4: They are a team right now that gets themselves in
- 18:32Speaker 4: these situations and you get close, but the league, the
- 18:35Speaker 4: good teams win these games, and so they get themselves
- 18:38Speaker 4: in this situation.
- 18:40Speaker 3: And that's just who they are right now.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And I hate saying that because I didn't think they
- 18:45Speaker 4: would be this, But I don't know what else you
- 18:48Speaker 4: draw from two and seven the way these games have gone.
- 18:51Speaker 4: They've lost five games in the last two minutes.
- 18:55Speaker 1: All right, let's look ahead to our final offensive play
- 18:58Speaker 1: for the Jaguars of the game, because I'm sure many
- 19:00Speaker 1: people have many opinions on it. Brian, would you think
- 19:02Speaker 1: of the play call?
- 19:03Speaker 2: I don't have a problem with the play call, and
- 19:04Speaker 2: he Doug laid it out last week and he's laid
- 19:07Speaker 2: it out all season. The ball's going to go where
- 19:08Speaker 2: the ball's going to go, right, It's going to depend
- 19:10Speaker 2: on what the quarterback sees, how the Eagles react. Do
- 19:14Speaker 2: I love them throwing the ball at the Ernest Johnson? No,
- 19:17Speaker 2: I do not. I would have rather seen Brian Thomas
- 19:20Speaker 2: Junior be the featured guy there. But the ball didn't
- 19:23Speaker 2: go there. And Doug will explained that, I'm sure when
- 19:25Speaker 2: he talks the leader today, you know why it wasn't
- 19:29Speaker 2: targeted him And maybe he wasn't open, who knows.
- 19:32Speaker 4: But but Trevor laid it out after the game too,
- 19:34Speaker 4: and he said they were getting man looks. I'm sure
- 19:38Speaker 4: his reed told him go to this single covered receiver.
- 19:42Speaker 4: In this case, the single covered receiver was Darren Johnson and.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Was I think one catching his career beyond ten yards down.
- 19:49Speaker 4: But in that moment, yeah, he sort of programmed to
- 19:55Speaker 4: go for that read. I don't I wish you hadn't
- 20:00Speaker 4: thrown Yeah.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Listen, and I said it off the top, it's so
- 20:03Speaker 2: easy this morning to go twenty twenty in hindsight on this,
- 20:05Speaker 2: but you might have run a drawer or a play
- 20:09Speaker 2: where you burn a little bit of clock there. Because
- 20:11Speaker 2: I think that.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Was for me what the issue was is because I
- 20:13Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily upset with that if that was the play
- 20:15Speaker 1: they ended up going to at some point, just because
- 20:17Speaker 1: I felt like they were kind of covering Brian Thomas Junior,
- 20:20Speaker 1: kind of trying to take him out of the game.
- 20:22Speaker 1: But I just immediately went back to last week where
- 20:24Speaker 1: they scored. They have that great score from Evan, but
- 20:26Speaker 1: you leave too much time on the clock, and with
- 20:28Speaker 1: the defense playing as much as they have, then I
- 20:29Speaker 1: had no faith that they were going to be able
- 20:31Speaker 1: to sho.
- 20:31Speaker 4: That's a fair point to make, and I agree, and
- 20:35Speaker 4: I definitely would have preferred to see them run clock.
- 20:40Speaker 4: I'll try to maybe explain the thinking that I don't
- 20:44Speaker 4: know that I would have gone that direction. You don't
- 20:49Speaker 4: feel like you're an efficient offense right now, right, So
- 20:53Speaker 4: are you really thinking at that point, hey, let's burn
- 20:56Speaker 4: some clock and we'll guarantee we get this to I mean,
- 20:59Speaker 4: I think they're trying to score when they score, if
- 21:01Speaker 4: you follow me, rather than thinking, hey, we know we
- 21:07Speaker 4: can score if this.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Play doesn't work.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I don't think they had that much confidence to be
- 21:10Speaker 4: an efficient team like that, right.
- 21:12Speaker 2: But I mean, Doug Peterson's been there before, and they've
- 21:15Speaker 2: been in these This team, well, I talked to Press
- 21:17Speaker 2: Taylor last week on the practice field, and he corrected me.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I asked if there was confidence in this offense with
- 21:24Speaker 2: the slow starts. He said, not only is there confidence,
- 21:26Speaker 2: there is conviction. Well, okay, if you have conviction in
- 21:30Speaker 2: your ability to perform at a high level, even if
- 21:33Speaker 2: you don't in the first half, well, let's see it, right,
- 21:36Speaker 2: I mean, let's see you calm down. There's a minute
- 21:38Speaker 2: forty left to play. You got the ball the thirteen
- 21:40Speaker 2: yard line. I don't have to score on the first play.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I don't let me see things I would have rather seen.
- 21:46Speaker 2: And of course everybody would this morning. Throw the ball away,
- 21:49Speaker 2: throw it over his head. You know, he's falling backwards.
- 21:51Speaker 2: It's not like he's standing in the corner of the
- 21:53Speaker 2: end zone. We're even an outside shoulder throw.
- 21:57Speaker 3: To agree with the thinking, I was just yeah, probably.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Listen, I'm fired up about it because because Preston I
- 22:03Speaker 2: had this very animated conversation about conviction and I believed
- 22:08Speaker 2: him that he and I still do that he believes
- 22:11Speaker 2: in what this offense is capable of doing. Okay, so
- 22:14Speaker 2: give yourself your best chance. And I'm not saying the
- 22:16Speaker 2: play call was the problem. The throw ended up being
- 22:19Speaker 2: the problem.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Sure, but as we said with burning Cock, they're saying that,
- 22:24Speaker 1: but are they coaching the way that they believe that
- 22:26Speaker 1: they believe conviction? Because if you're not believing you can score,
- 22:28Speaker 1: then you're taking in as soon as you can get it.
- 22:30Speaker 1: That doesn't want one of the is not true. Stay
- 22:34Speaker 1: with us here on jag Zam. We're gonna have some
- 22:36Speaker 1: hot takes coming up after the break. Jag Zam brought
- 22:44Speaker 1: to you by Sutteth Orters, trusted and reliable moving company

- 22:49Speaker 1: Jacksonville Jaguars. To get a guaranteed quote, you can visit
- 22:51Speaker 1: suddeth dot com slash jacks Beck Studio here on Monday
- 22:58Speaker 1: after the Eagles and Jaguar on Sunday that I was
- 23:01Speaker 1: very much glad it was not Sunday night. After that.
- 23:03Speaker 1: By the time we get out of there. But what's
- 23:06Speaker 1: some hot takes? What have we got this morning?
- 23:07Speaker 2: I'm going with them what I think it is pretty
- 23:09Speaker 2: obviously the tank over Travis. You know, there's all this
- 23:11Speaker 2: talking about splitting carries and Travis being the starter and
- 23:15Speaker 2: not losing his job to injury. I'm done right and look,
- 23:18Speaker 2: in all disclosure, I'm still smarting from the fumble on
- 23:20Speaker 2: the goal line in Miami on opening Day. I haven't
- 23:22Speaker 2: let go of that. But yesterday, that that play, knocking
- 23:26Speaker 2: the ball up into the air at that moment with
- 23:28Speaker 2: just over four minutes left to play, which is so untimely.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Don't have any confidence in his ability to be that
- 23:35Speaker 2: big playmaker that you hoped you would get this year,
- 23:38Speaker 2: that you would be able to put him in different situations,
- 23:40Speaker 2: line him up in the slot, out of the backfield
- 23:42Speaker 2: because he's a good receiver. Well, listen, my opinion doesn't matter.
- 23:47Speaker 2: They didn't have him in the ball game on that play,
- 23:50Speaker 2: We're trevored through the ball to Deannis Johnson. If you
- 23:55Speaker 2: want the best player to catch that ball, the best
- 23:58Speaker 2: running back, clearly that would have been Eat And then
- 24:00Speaker 2: the offensive coaching staff did not have the confidence in
- 24:03Speaker 2: him so I say, it's a tank's job. He's you're
- 24:05Speaker 2: starting running back. He's a powerful guy. He makes things happen.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I don't I don't even think it's an argument anymore.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I don't know if you'll see it on opening snap automatically,
- 24:16Speaker 4: but I think you'll feel it. Yeah, I mean, it
- 24:19Speaker 4: feels like that's going to be the direction. And after
- 24:22Speaker 4: what nine games, hard.
- 24:23Speaker 1: To argue with John, where you headed today?
- 24:26Speaker 4: Well, you know it's the fight is nice, but it
- 24:30Speaker 4: only matters so much, right, I.
- 24:32Speaker 3: Mean, it's.
- 24:34Speaker 4: When you're watching a game like that on Sunday, you're
- 24:38Speaker 4: liking the fact that they've come back, You're liking the heart.
- 24:42Speaker 3: You sort of feel like.
- 24:43Speaker 4: Hey, this is an injured team going up against it.
- 24:45Speaker 4: At the same time, it's the NFL, so it's not
- 24:48Speaker 4: a Division two team playing a Division one team.
- 24:50Speaker 3: You can't sit there and.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Say, oh, they you know what gave it your college cry,
- 24:54Speaker 4: you know. So I get why people read and he year,
- 25:00Speaker 4: well they fought.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Well, they're supposed to fight. Yeah, that's what they're supposed
- 25:03Speaker 3: to do.
- 25:04Speaker 4: And at some point, instead of feeling like you almost
- 25:07Speaker 4: want a game like that, you have to win them
- 25:09Speaker 4: and We're sitting here after nine games and you're talking
- 25:13Speaker 4: about a team that's lost five games in the last
- 25:15Speaker 4: two minutes that was built to win.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Now yeah, yeah, so they had a chance to win it.
- 25:21Speaker 3: Who cares about the fight? Yeah? I get what people
- 25:23Speaker 3: say that, and go win it, and they're right.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Mine's got to do a little similar years. Brian keep
- 25:30Speaker 1: forty four on the field. We've talked about this endlessly.
- 25:33Speaker 1: He's the Beth asked, the best athlete on this team.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He should be on the field more. I'm looking at
- 25:39Speaker 1: the snapcounts. He played seventy three percent of the plays,
- 25:42Speaker 1: and I understand they want to have a rotation. You
- 25:44Speaker 1: don't have any other edge players on this team. Josh
- 25:47Speaker 1: Heinz Allen and Trevon Walker should be on the field
- 25:50Speaker 1: every play unless they tap out. Let's've going to Anthony Richardson.
- 25:52Speaker 1: They should be on the field. In my opinion at
- 25:54Speaker 1: this point, I've seen enough from everybody else. Also, I
- 25:57Speaker 1: want to see mon Terry Brown on the field. He
- 25:58Speaker 1: only played twenty three percent of this I would love
- 26:00Speaker 1: to see him out on the field. I understand they
- 26:02Speaker 1: want to do that rotation or whatever they were doing,
- 26:04Speaker 1: but I think he should be getting the majority and
- 26:05Speaker 1: Darby should be getting the twenty three percent. At least
- 26:07Speaker 1: for me, if Buster gets beat, I know he's trying
- 26:10Speaker 1: his hardest. I feel like Darby's sometimes getting lost in
- 26:12Speaker 1: there in the mix, and I'm just done with the
- 26:14Speaker 1: rotations at this point. I don't know if Roy Nielson
- 26:16Speaker 1: wants to listen to that, but I would like to
- 26:18Speaker 1: see the best players out there.
- 26:21Speaker 2: Trayvon Walker's fun to watch, right, I mean people tend
- 26:24Speaker 2: to watch the ball and not the different players. I
- 26:26Speaker 2: like to watch forty four to see what he's doing.
- 26:29Speaker 1: He affects the game so much, and he's.
- 26:32Speaker 2: A really, really, really good player who gets better game
- 26:35Speaker 2: to gain your point about the quarnerbacks really stands out.
- 26:39Speaker 2: The reason I want to see Monteric is I want
- 26:40Speaker 2: to know whether I can go forward with him. I'm
- 26:42Speaker 2: not going forward with Darby. He's a one year rental.
- 26:45Speaker 2: He was brought in here because he knew the head
- 26:47Speaker 2: coach and he knows how to play press coverage. But
- 26:50Speaker 2: you saw him yesterday, I mean he was a liability.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He's a ten year guy. I want Monteric on the
- 26:55Speaker 2: field because I got to find out can I count
- 26:57Speaker 2: on him. And by the way, let me see more
- 26:58Speaker 2: Trey Prince, who has had a couple of moments on
- 27:01Speaker 2: the field this year. I don't need to see any
- 27:02Speaker 2: more Ronald Darby.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Yeah, the rotation in the back I never I have
- 27:06Speaker 4: quite gotten. I like to see Trayvon and Josh always
- 27:11Speaker 4: on the field in big situations. Yeah, it's hard to
- 27:14Speaker 4: play ninety percent in those spots. But there was a
- 27:19Speaker 4: play late where Trayvon was out of the game that
- 27:21Speaker 4: I wondered about.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Those two were the best two players on the field
- 27:25Speaker 2: for the Jaguars yesterday by far.
- 27:27Speaker 1: All right, say let's willell you what's coming up the
- 27:29Speaker 1: rest of the week? A year similar Electric Center.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Jag fans.
- 27:35Speaker 1: If you want customized Jaguars furniture for your home, checkout
- 27:37Speaker 1: zipchair dot com browse all the customizable options. Zip Chair
- 27:40Speaker 1: is furniture for fans.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Great.
- 27:43Speaker 6: I don't feel that either. I mean, guys are extremely disappointed.
- 27:46Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 27:48Speaker 6: It's just been the same thing so many times this
- 27:50Speaker 6: season that it is. It's frustrating because you feel like,
- 27:53Speaker 6: you know, honestly, I mean, you feel like you're about.
- 27:55Speaker 2: To You're gonna break through it.
- 27:56Speaker 6: You got this adversity and this is the week we're
- 27:58Speaker 6: gonna break through it. And I thought this was the
- 27:59Speaker 6: week you can didn't get it done, didn't finish.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So it is.
- 28:03Speaker 6: It is frustrating, but we know it's gonna turn.
- 28:06Speaker 2: We just have to keep working.
- 28:07Speaker 6: It's all you can do.
- 28:08Speaker 2: You can.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Frustration overload. Trevor included, what are you looking at this week?
- 28:15Speaker 1: I'm curious to see, as you mentioned, what the running
- 28:17Speaker 1: back rotation is going to be, if there will see
- 28:19Speaker 1: any changes elsewhere.
- 28:20Speaker 2: But I heard I heard early this morning. I got
- 28:24Speaker 2: up to write and I heard a SoundBite from Foya
- 28:27Speaker 2: Luakan in the in the postgame locker room that I
- 28:30Speaker 2: thought I wanted to hear that right. Basically, he was
- 28:33Speaker 2: asked about the pressure and the anxiety in the moment.
- 28:35Speaker 2: He goes, I love the moment, he goes. This is
- 28:37Speaker 2: what we're in the NFL for, the big moment with
- 28:40Speaker 2: your back against the wall. He goes. I want more
- 28:42Speaker 2: of that, he goes, I want to win more. He goes,
- 28:45Speaker 2: But I'm not backing away from that. It's a privilege
- 28:48Speaker 2: to be in that. Yes, that's what I want to
- 28:50Speaker 2: see and hear from guys. I don't want to hear
- 28:52Speaker 2: about losing at the end and mental you know, fragility
- 28:56Speaker 2: or and I want to hear put me in the
- 28:58Speaker 2: moment because NFL games are just I did in the
- 29:00Speaker 2: fourth quarter. I want to hear put me back in there.
- 29:04Speaker 2: I'll win it this time. I loved the answer. I've
- 29:07Speaker 2: been waiting to hear that.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Yeah, he's a football player. I mean, and you know,
- 29:12Speaker 4: I don't know that all NFL players these days feel
- 29:16Speaker 4: that way the way he does.
- 29:18Speaker 3: So I was glad to hear it too. And this week,
- 29:21Speaker 3: what are you're looking for? To me? You look for.
- 29:27Speaker 4: At some point, when you're losing like this, you take
- 29:29Speaker 4: a gut punch that's hard to come back from.
- 29:31Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:32Speaker 4: I worried that it was last week. I'm impressed that
- 29:34Speaker 4: it wasn't. So you look for them to be sort
- 29:38Speaker 4: of I guess still feeling that.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, at some point they're going to get past it.
- 29:43Speaker 2: I say it's going to be this week. The last
- 29:45Speaker 2: two weeks they have put themselves in a position and
- 29:47Speaker 2: they haven't broken through. I say that the frustration breaks
- 29:50Speaker 2: them this week and they go out and they get
- 29:52Speaker 2: a whip.
- 29:53Speaker 1: All right, I hope you're right.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Listen, The four Way of Lucon bite is worth listening to.
- 29:56Speaker 2: It's up on the YouTube page. Go find it. When
- 29:58Speaker 2: you hear that, maybe you'll think that same way I do,
- 30:01Speaker 2: that there's going to be a breakthrough for this football team.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I love the confidence. We'll run this shot back on
- 30:05Speaker 1: Monday and hopefully stay with us the rest.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Of the week.
- 30:08Speaker 1: We'll be back on Wednesday and Thursday. Talk about the
- 30:10Speaker 1: Viking team this week.
