- 0:13Speaker 1: Hikeim moning Greg Bell and instribute Christopher Kay with you
- 0:16Speaker 1: from the noon ten to noon as we are every day.
- 0:18Speaker 1: We're gonna go live right away. Top of the show
- 0:21Speaker 1: the Cracking Headquarters at Northgate where general manager Jason Bottrell
- 0:24Speaker 1: is having his end of year press conference for routine
- 0:27Speaker 1: that's missed the playoffs for the last five years. Jason
- 0:29Speaker 1: Bottrel Cracking Headquarters in Northgate.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Now talked a lot about my commitment to billing a
- 0:35Speaker 2: winning franchise here for this organization and for the city.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Nothing has changed from that standpoint. We have the pillars
- 0:45Speaker 2: in place for the Kraken to have a lot of success.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Great ownership, passionate fan base, climate, pledger arena, an amazing
- 0:55Speaker 2: practice facility here at kCi NHLA, who are proud about
- 1:01Speaker 2: being in the Pacific Northwest, and a pipeline of young
- 1:05Speaker 2: players coming well. I think the future of the Seattle
- 1:09Speaker 2: Kraken is very bright. Bottom line is we're not where
- 1:14Speaker 2: we want to be after five years. It's an important
- 1:18Speaker 2: time for our franchise. We have a strong foundation here,
- 1:24Speaker 2: but changes need to be made. When I was introduced
- 1:28Speaker 2: last year as jam, we are very clear that I
- 1:31Speaker 2: would have final say in hockey operations decisions. We may
- 1:36Speaker 2: changes on and off the ice, to our players, to
- 1:39Speaker 2: our coaches to strengthen this team. When I reflect back
- 1:43Speaker 2: on the season, there are moments that I was very
- 1:46Speaker 2: proud of. Going ten to five and two in January,
- 1:51Speaker 2: playing seventeen games in a month, putting it ourselves in
- 1:55Speaker 2: a position to be in a playoff spot at the
- 1:58Speaker 2: Olympic break and at the trade deadline was something that
- 2:03Speaker 2: was a big accomplishment for our group. We talked at
- 2:07Speaker 2: the start of the year about wanting to be in
- 2:09Speaker 2: the playoff hunt. We were, but ultimately we fell short.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I think you saw that with our players last week
- 2:19Speaker 2: at the exit meetings and at final interviews. There was disappointment.
- 2:24Speaker 2: There was frustration. At the end of the day, not
- 2:27Speaker 2: making the playoffs was a missed opportunity, especially for our division.
- 2:32Speaker 2: This year, looking ahead, we will be very aggressive in
- 2:37Speaker 2: finding ways to improve this team. We'll focus on players
- 2:42Speaker 2: that can help and help our team play to lane standard,
- 2:47Speaker 2: a team that plays with speed, that attacks and competes
- 2:51Speaker 2: every night. We'll look at the free agent market, but
- 2:56Speaker 2: that can't be our only avenue. We'll evaluate trades and
- 3:00Speaker 2: we'll find creative ways of continue to developing our young
- 3:03Speaker 2: players next steps. We've already spoken to all of our
- 3:08Speaker 2: players through exit meetings. We've begun internal discussions as an
- 3:12Speaker 2: organization building towards next year. Todd will update you guys
- 3:18Speaker 2: here in a couple of minutes just on where the
- 3:20Speaker 2: audit review is and we plan to leverage those ideas
- 3:23Speaker 2: and those suggestions in the upcoming months. I'll hand it
- 3:26Speaker 2: to Todd and they certainly look forward to answering your questions.
- 3:30Speaker 3: So that my comments at the press conference about a
- 3:35Speaker 3: week and a half ago definitely drew some interest, and
- 3:38Speaker 3: I'm happy to expand upon that. But you know, we're
- 3:43Speaker 3: five years into it and it's totally appropriate to stand
- 3:46Speaker 3: back and lay fresh.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Eyes on this.
- 3:49Speaker 3: But it's not just an outsider, an outside group or
- 3:52Speaker 3: a person that's going to help us do that. Over
- 3:56Speaker 3: the last number of days, our owner has literally met
- 3:58Speaker 3: with our team captains, coaches. And the positive thing about
- 4:04Speaker 3: that is the guy to my left here supports that
- 4:08Speaker 3: he's not threatened by the process. He's embracing it.
- 4:12Speaker 4: And we will do it on it.
- 4:13Speaker 3: We're talking to multiple people about their potential fit to
- 4:18Speaker 3: help lead that We've had inbound calls from other enterprises,
- 4:24Speaker 3: and we're going to get it right. There's no timeline
- 4:27Speaker 3: to necessarily finish it, there's no timeline to officially commence it,
- 4:32Speaker 3: but in fact it's already begun. And we have an
- 4:35Speaker 3: owner who's deeply committed to winning, and she came away
- 4:39Speaker 3: i think from her discussions with the captains and the coaches,
- 4:45Speaker 3: and she's got a clear vision that there's something great
- 4:47Speaker 3: to be built on here. But we still have work
- 4:49Speaker 3: to do, and so I'm happy to answer questions on that.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I'll let you finish your remarks and if there's other
- 4:56Speaker 3: questions I can answer on that, I'm happy to do it.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Cool more questions us this year, Jason Todd, thank you
- 5:05Speaker 5: very much for doing this here today. And first off,
- 5:08Speaker 5: Lane Lambert said that he'd be working with you kind
- 5:11Speaker 5: of with the changes maybe coming here to this roster potentially.
- 5:14Speaker 5: So we've heard from the team about this with you
- 5:17Speaker 5: know how quiet the locker room was at some points
- 5:19Speaker 5: from this past season. So how much is culture going
- 5:22Speaker 5: to be a part of the conversation with how this
- 5:24Speaker 5: roster is potentially turned over for this next year.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Well, I think it's always You're always working on your culture.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You're always building on that. First off, I've enjoyed my
- 5:33Speaker 2: conversations with Lane two at this season, and I'm certainly
- 5:35Speaker 2: looking forward to We got coaches meetings this week assessing
- 5:39Speaker 2: our entire group, and obviously culture is going to be
- 5:42Speaker 2: a big part of it. I think it's always a
- 5:45Speaker 2: unique mix. We were proud of our culture because we
- 5:48Speaker 2: have players who want to be here. You look at
- 5:51Speaker 2: our track record of resigning players who have come to
- 5:53Speaker 2: our organization. It's, you know, whether you go Jordan Eberly
- 5:56Speaker 2: this year, Matty Benier's joy decord players I'm here and
- 6:00Speaker 2: they want to stay here. I think, you know, we
- 6:04Speaker 2: have young players coming up through our system. I'm proud
- 6:07Speaker 2: of our young players. They're very determined individuals to get
- 6:11Speaker 2: to this NHL standard at such a young age. I
- 6:15Speaker 2: think we utilized I want to say, we utilize seven
- 6:18Speaker 2: players under the age of twenty three after the trade deadline,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and that's great experience for them. But it's it's you
- 6:25Speaker 2: saw the intensity down the stretch. You saw the intensity
- 6:29Speaker 2: of playoff hockey the last couple of days. Like it's
- 6:32Speaker 2: an experience for some of our younger players going through
- 6:35Speaker 2: that letting sort of mentoring them, teaching them that that
- 6:41Speaker 2: is a big part of our future and what we
- 6:43Speaker 2: have to do from a hockey opice standpoint and a
- 6:45Speaker 2: coaching standpoint for our younger players. Same thing within culture,
- 6:49Speaker 2: like we have to continue to help matt emneirs continue
- 6:51Speaker 2: to become a better leader. We have good human beings,
- 6:54Speaker 2: good people in our locker room, but when they go
- 6:57Speaker 2: through adversity, we have to find different ways of helping
- 7:00Speaker 2: them through that process.
- 7:02Speaker 5: With market, we've heard about cap space that you can
- 7:05Speaker 5: weaponize the picks that are available out there. Do you
- 7:08Speaker 5: think that also prospects and young players are a resource
- 7:10Speaker 5: that you can deal from here with this or is
- 7:13Speaker 5: that kind of like a handsoft thing you think, no.
- 7:14Speaker 2: One hundred percent there. We'll look at every way to
- 7:17Speaker 2: utilize our players to improve our hockey team. It's putting
- 7:21Speaker 2: them into different places and positions, honor a National Hockey
- 7:24Speaker 2: League team, or if it's something that can help us
- 7:27Speaker 2: get more established players, we'll certainly look at it. The
- 7:29Speaker 2: exciting thing of where we are now moving towards here
- 7:32Speaker 2: now and then the next phase in of the organization.
- 7:35Speaker 2: These players are finally ready. I know, maybe our fans
- 7:37Speaker 2: and people are tired of talking about prospects. But you
- 7:40Speaker 2: just look at this year like we finally had from
- 7:43Speaker 2: our first draft, you know, Winterton and malantson coming in
- 7:48Speaker 2: and being regulars in the National Hockey League. You look
- 7:50Speaker 2: at the twenty two draft, you know, players such as
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yanni Furcus on the defense end, jug Nathan Nelson, they're
- 7:56Speaker 2: finally getting into position where they're ready to play on
- 8:00Speaker 2: Fortunately we're not the NFL. It's you know, this week
- 8:02Speaker 2: the people are players are gonna be drafted, They'll be
- 8:03Speaker 2: in the in the NFL next week. It takes a
- 8:06Speaker 2: longer process for these players to come through. What gets
- 8:09Speaker 2: us excited is they're now pushing knocking down the door
- 8:12Speaker 2: to play national hockey games. It's not just sort of oh,
- 8:15Speaker 2: down the road three or four years. They're ready to
- 8:17Speaker 2: play now.
- 8:18Speaker 1: You're listening to live comments from Kak and general manager
- 8:21Speaker 1: Jason Botrol CEO Todd la Wiki live here on ninety
- 8:24Speaker 1: three point three KJFM. Like the shortcomings are right now
- 8:29Speaker 1: with this team to getting to where you want to be,
- 8:31Speaker 1: getting back into the playoff conversation.
- 8:33Speaker 2: So I would say this year was different with the
- 8:35Speaker 2: excitement element was that we were part of a playoff race.
- 8:38Speaker 2: You know, we weren't playing games in March or April,
- 8:41Speaker 2: because you can say whether that's the quality of our
- 8:43Speaker 2: team or just we were in a battle for playoff games,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and I think that was a huge advantage for a
- 8:49Speaker 2: player alike Berkeley, Catton, Ryker Evans, Shane Wright to experience
- 8:53Speaker 2: that so a little different than the previous years. If
- 8:55Speaker 2: I do think this is a shortcoming, you look at
- 8:57Speaker 2: anything from where we can have a big incremental roumate
- 9:00Speaker 2: would be just our offense and creating more offense. And
- 9:05Speaker 2: I think big part of that's not just you know,
- 9:07Speaker 2: things in the offense zone, but it's being sharper from
- 9:10Speaker 2: a defensive standpoint, sharper in the neutral zone, so we
- 9:12Speaker 2: don't spend nearly as much time there. The other element
- 9:15Speaker 2: that we have to continue to improve on is our
- 9:17Speaker 2: special teams. I thought that was a real force our
- 9:19Speaker 2: power play through to the Olympic break. I want to
- 9:23Speaker 2: say we were right around you know, top ten at
- 9:26Speaker 2: the Olympic break, and that dropped off in March April.
- 9:29Speaker 2: That's something that we have to continue to make sure
- 9:31Speaker 2: is something that is an asset for us moving forward.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Jason Yep.
- 9:38Speaker 6: When you look back at the deadline, do you feel
- 9:40Speaker 6: like you were able to accomplish what you would hope
- 9:43Speaker 6: to do at the deadline? And then were you surprised
- 9:47Speaker 6: I'm guessing yes, But were you surprised by the way
- 9:49Speaker 6: this team is underperformed over the last you know, five
- 9:53Speaker 6: weeks of the season.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Surprise? You know, I would say just say, I think
- 9:59Speaker 2: I'm our players disappointed. I knew it was going to
- 10:03Speaker 2: be a challenge. If you looked at it at the
- 10:05Speaker 2: Olympic break I was proud of where we got to,
- 10:10Speaker 2: but you looked at the strength of schedule, I knew
- 10:11Speaker 2: it was going to be a challenge. The unique element
- 10:14Speaker 2: of the year or March and April. We knocked off Carolina,
- 10:19Speaker 2: Tampa Bay, and UH Vegas, but struggled with other teams.
- 10:24Speaker 2: And if you really look back, and there wasn't a
- 10:26Speaker 2: lot of games where I was really frustrated with the team, like,
- 10:31Speaker 2: oh while we gotten blown out. But you just look
- 10:33Speaker 2: at the overall record from you know, the Olympic break on,
- 10:37Speaker 2: it was unacceptable. You know, where where I look at
- 10:42Speaker 2: our team, there's you get to a trade deadline, you
- 10:46Speaker 2: always want to add more to your group. You just
- 10:48Speaker 2: do right but my focus on at the trade deaent
- 10:51Speaker 2: on was I wanted to keep the group together and
- 10:54Speaker 2: I wanted to add something just because of reward to
- 10:58Speaker 2: the getting to that point. This was in a situation
- 11:00Speaker 2: where I think we can make possibly find a way
- 11:02Speaker 2: to get into the playoffs something. You know, we're sitting
- 11:04Speaker 2: there at the Olympic break, We're sitting there at the
- 11:06Speaker 2: trade line in a playoff position. That team deserved to
- 11:09Speaker 2: be rewarded. That team deserved to stay together the previous
- 11:13Speaker 2: two years. I was part of it, and I completely
- 11:15Speaker 2: agreed with it. We traded away players to get draft assets.
- 11:20Speaker 2: It was a situation where one the team deserved to
- 11:22Speaker 2: stay together, not sell off free agents, and two, if
- 11:26Speaker 2: we can add something to the mix. We certainly wanted
- 11:28Speaker 2: to do that and brought Bobby in. I thought it
- 11:32Speaker 2: was a good acquisition. I thought he fit in very
- 11:35Speaker 2: well with our group relationship with Lane before, so that
- 11:38Speaker 2: relationship could get going right away. I think Bobby enjoyed
- 11:41Speaker 2: playing a bigger role here and the things that our
- 11:44Speaker 2: scouts in our R and D department had talked about
- 11:48Speaker 2: his assets that complement our group really well. His speed
- 11:51Speaker 2: has shot into the net. I think fit in very
- 11:53Speaker 2: very well with our group then, especially with the injuries
- 11:55Speaker 2: to Schwartz and McCann, I was very thankful that we
- 11:58Speaker 2: had him there and stuff. To me, bringing a player
- 12:01Speaker 2: like that in just allowed us to stay in a
- 12:03Speaker 2: little bit longer into the battle and give hey, give
- 12:06Speaker 2: some of our younger players more of an opportunity to
- 12:08Speaker 2: be in the hunt.
- 12:09Speaker 7: All right here really for either one of you, but
- 12:11Speaker 7: just you know, you mentioned a fans perspective, and maybe
- 12:14Speaker 7: not wanting to talk about prospects at this point, but
- 12:16Speaker 7: for fans who have been with you, guys who have
- 12:18Speaker 7: been investing, who have been going to games for several
- 12:21Speaker 7: years now and have been waiting for a winner, why
- 12:23Speaker 7: should those fans be excited about the present and future
- 12:26Speaker 7: of the crack And what would you say directly to
- 12:28Speaker 7: those fans who have had their patients a little bit
- 12:30Speaker 7: tested throughout this process. Well, I think just from the
- 12:33Speaker 7: standpoint that our players are continuing to develop. Are the
- 12:36Speaker 7: fact that we were in a playoff huntil a week
- 12:38Speaker 7: to go in the season, the things that I just
- 12:41Speaker 7: mentioned and stuff too, the fact that we had seven
- 12:44Speaker 7: players under the age of twenty three or twenty three
- 12:47Speaker 7: and under play in playoffs or in the playoff hunt games.
- 12:50Speaker 7: From that standpoint, you look at our team in Coachilla
- 12:52Speaker 7: Valley here right now, I think we're the youngest team
- 12:54Speaker 7: in the American Hockey League going into the playoffs this week,
- 12:57Speaker 7: So the players are continuing to produce and continue to develop.
- 13:01Speaker 7: The other element is just yes, we have draft picks.
- 13:03Speaker 7: We have high draft picks. We have four first rounders
- 13:06Speaker 7: in the next two years. Whether that's bringing higher end
- 13:09Speaker 7: talent into our organization or looking at possibly using that
- 13:14Speaker 7: from a trade perspective. To me, this is what we
- 13:17Speaker 7: need to continue to bring. We'll bring.
- 13:18Speaker 2: There's going to be a lot of NHL ers in
- 13:20Speaker 2: our group that we have coming up. Continuing to find
- 13:22Speaker 2: high end talent, that's what we're mandating and that's what
- 13:25Speaker 2: we're looking for for sure.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I'll just add that, you know, I think that when
- 13:30Speaker 3: you look holistically what this ownership group has done in
- 13:34Speaker 3: Samantha and our other investors, we've done a lot. Right here,
- 13:38Speaker 3: we sit in what I believe is the best training
- 13:40Speaker 3: facility in the NHL. I believe our arena is arguably
- 13:44Speaker 3: the most beautiful arena in the world. Tonight, the Torrent
- 13:48Speaker 3: will play in front of a massive crowd. We have
- 13:53Speaker 3: done a lot right here. This is the most important
- 13:56Speaker 3: piece to me personally, is to get this right. I've
- 14:00Speaker 3: had a pretty good track record with organizations and being
- 14:02Speaker 3: part of winning organizations. We have all the DNA here
- 14:05Speaker 3: to be a great organization and we are going to
- 14:07Speaker 3: push hard. Our owner, Samantha Halloway, is going to have
- 14:11Speaker 3: it no other way. And when we talked about this,
- 14:14Speaker 3: you know, sort of audit and it has drawn a
- 14:16Speaker 3: lot of interest. You know, that's that's the way she
- 14:20Speaker 3: wants it. We are going to examine and turn over
- 14:23Speaker 3: every rock, no stone unturned to get this team kicked.
- 14:28Speaker 4: To another gear.
- 14:30Speaker 3: And when you look at all the other pieces that
- 14:31Speaker 3: we put in place, the hard hard work of doing this,
- 14:34Speaker 3: the improbability of a privately funded arena, all the way
- 14:39Speaker 3: through this journey. For me, for the last eight years,
- 14:41Speaker 3: there have been doubters, but I've been a constant believer
- 14:44Speaker 3: and I believe that we are going to get this
- 14:46Speaker 3: to a good place, and I think the majority of
- 14:49Speaker 3: our fans do. I will say this, I think we
- 14:52Speaker 3: as a community have some of the greatest fans in
- 14:54Speaker 3: the whole world, and right at the front of the
- 14:57Speaker 3: line or the Kraken fans who have made our building
- 15:00Speaker 3: an incredible place to go night after night. They've cheered
- 15:03Speaker 3: their hearts out, They've fallen in love with this team,
- 15:06Speaker 3: and they do deserve a winner.
- 15:09Speaker 8: So Todd, I know you said you're going to leave
- 15:11Speaker 8: no stone in turn looking for that solution, and I
- 15:13Speaker 8: know that audits still ahead of you. But if it
- 15:16Speaker 8: is determined, say by the audit or by hockey ops,
- 15:19Speaker 8: that maybe taking a step back or a transition year
- 15:22Speaker 8: next season would be best for the team in the
- 15:26Speaker 8: long run, is that something that ownership would sign off
- 15:28Speaker 8: on or is that a non starter for you?
- 15:30Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think that. I don't want to
- 15:31Speaker 3: speak for Sam, but I will share that. You know,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I think she feels that. You know, the adversity that
- 15:37Speaker 3: came after the Olympic break, but by the way, we
- 15:39Speaker 3: had a great Olympic break. We were feeling really good
- 15:42Speaker 3: about the team, and that was a really hard period
- 15:45Speaker 3: of time. None of us were happy, and I've said
- 15:47Speaker 3: that before. But we're going to put this adversity to
- 15:51Speaker 3: good use, and we are going to examine exactly where
- 15:53Speaker 3: we are in this journey. And the goal is not
- 15:55Speaker 3: just to make the playoffs. The goal is to build
- 15:57Speaker 3: a long term winning team, and as Jay Since said,
- 16:00Speaker 3: I think the pieces are in place. I think our
- 16:02Speaker 3: ownership feels that we've got to add to those pieces.
- 16:06Speaker 3: We've got critical pieces in place. We've got to add
- 16:08Speaker 3: and push this to another level. And there was a
- 16:11Speaker 3: consistency the audit didn't isn't going to begin next week
- 16:14Speaker 3: or in two weeks. It's actually going on now, and
- 16:17Speaker 3: it's interesting the feedback that comes from coaches and players.
- 16:21Speaker 3: There is a consistency of saying, you know, we want
- 16:25Speaker 3: this to be a winner. We think the pieces are here.
- 16:27Speaker 3: We've got to push harder and hold everyone more accountable.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And that's really what that's that's all about. I'll make
- 16:33Speaker 3: one last commut that since the season ended, uh, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 3: Jason has leaned in and things do feel like they're
- 16:44Speaker 3: a little different for him in this offseason. And just
- 16:47Speaker 3: the engagement of Lane Lambert, for instance, I've been doing
- 16:50Speaker 3: this for a long time. You know, he's got Lane
- 16:53Speaker 3: and meetings where I hadn't seen him before. And Lane
- 16:59Speaker 3: is having direct us, Oshan's with the owner and there's
- 17:02Speaker 3: total transparency going on with the organization and it's Uh,
- 17:06Speaker 3: it's encouraging.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Listening the coverage of the Crack Press conference at the
- 17:12Speaker 1: Ice Box in North Gate. It's the end of season
- 17:14Speaker 1: press comb Jason Barrow, the general manager that was the
- 17:16Speaker 1: voice of Todd Lightwiki live here on ninety three point
- 17:19Speaker 1: three KJR.
- 17:20Speaker 9: In that direction, and if you or the audit determine
- 17:24Speaker 9: that they are headed in that direction, what is your
- 17:26Speaker 9: plan to turn things around?
- 17:28Speaker 2: Well, look, I believe we're in a role where when
- 17:31Speaker 2: we're closer to the playoffs this past year than we've
- 17:33Speaker 2: been in the previous So we just talked about, Plus,
- 17:36Speaker 2: we have a pluthor of young players coming through a
- 17:38Speaker 2: system where we're not a declining area. We've talked about
- 17:41Speaker 2: probably forward's being an area where we have to continue
- 17:44Speaker 2: to develop and add to that group. We that's where
- 17:48Speaker 2: we've drafted, that's where we've taken our high picks. That's
- 17:51Speaker 2: where you know a player we haven't even talked about yet,
- 17:54Speaker 2: like a guy like Jacobrien who's having an outsetting season
- 17:56Speaker 2: that we drafted last year, probably turning pro next year.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Whereas that went from that bit So to me, the
- 18:01Speaker 2: fact that that's been a focus of our organizations from
- 18:03Speaker 2: day one and that's a sort of a key area
- 18:06Speaker 2: for us moving forward. It gives us a lot of
- 18:09Speaker 2: promise and a lot of belief that we're heading the
- 18:11Speaker 2: right direction.
- 18:14Speaker 10: Hey, Jason, this seven players that are under twenty three.
- 18:18Speaker 10: Two parts here. One is what did you like about
- 18:20Speaker 10: those players? Anybody stand out things that maybe even somebody
- 18:24Speaker 10: had a schedule. And then secondly, can you talk a
- 18:27Speaker 10: little bit about lax and process. Try the process down
- 18:30Speaker 10: in Coachalla Valley.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so I would just say, like what I like
- 18:34Speaker 2: about our group of young Fords coming is just how
- 18:36Speaker 2: diverse they are. I think you saw that this year
- 18:40Speaker 2: with Jacob Allanson bringing bringing energy, bringing a physicality to
- 18:43Speaker 2: the mix that I think our team really needs. I
- 18:48Speaker 2: also liked the fact that you know, we saw growth
- 18:52Speaker 2: in Ryan Winterton this year. Young man dealt with a
- 18:58Speaker 2: lot this year and every time he was in the
- 19:00Speaker 2: lineup he was a big impact. And when he wasn't,
- 19:02Speaker 2: his speed was something that we were missing. But to me,
- 19:06Speaker 2: he's shown big growth and utilizing that speed, becoming a
- 19:12Speaker 2: consistent NHLer and now it's exciting to see where his
- 19:15Speaker 2: development is going to go in the next couple of years.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Here another one, I'll just bring up his Oscar mollguard
- 19:21Speaker 2: for first year kid coming over from Europe, the fact
- 19:24Speaker 2: they got to play in the Olympics for Denmark. His versatility,
- 19:28Speaker 2: but you know, his two way play. I think he's
- 19:32Speaker 2: a player I think very similar to in Berkeley Catton.
- 19:35Speaker 2: These players with high end hockey sense. They learn, they
- 19:38Speaker 2: take the offseason to really figure out their different experiences
- 19:42Speaker 2: and really take a big step in year two, and
- 19:45Speaker 2: so we'll be expecting from both of them. But the
- 19:47Speaker 2: one player that I was disappointed that just because from
- 19:49Speaker 2: an inter standpoint, we couldn't get up at the end
- 19:51Speaker 2: of the year was Furcus Jagger. Fercus to me, he
- 19:54Speaker 2: took a big step down in Coachella Valley. You talked
- 19:56Speaker 2: a little bit about what lacks is Derek Lax Dentroy,
- 20:00Speaker 2: what we've done down there. You look at all the numbers,
- 20:02Speaker 2: it's it's not just this year, it's almost historical how
- 20:04Speaker 2: young our team's been down there, especially our defense corps.
- 20:09Speaker 2: The fact that they were able to survive at the
- 20:11Speaker 2: start of the season and then really thrive in the
- 20:13Speaker 2: second half. They're certainly going to have a very difficult
- 20:16Speaker 2: matchup against Bakersfield. A little bit more of a veteran
- 20:19Speaker 2: team in the first round here, but we're ecstatic with
- 20:22Speaker 2: the job that they've done down there in all positions.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I think our forwards are a little bit more NHL ready,
- 20:28Speaker 2: but how young our defense corp. Having a player like
- 20:31Speaker 2: Jugnath make the All Rookie team down there was outstanding.
- 20:34Speaker 2: And you know the thing getting back to Furcus, you
- 20:37Speaker 2: know him and Morrison this year and Yanni when they
- 20:40Speaker 2: were down there were a dominant line and for all
- 20:42Speaker 2: those to be young kids and to be circled in
- 20:45Speaker 2: the American Hockey League is hey, when you're playing another team,
- 20:47Speaker 2: they were circling those guys on the board. The this
- 20:49Speaker 2: is who we have to stop. That's a big challenge.
- 20:52Speaker 2: And for someone like Fercus, who was you know, sort
- 20:56Speaker 2: of finding his way last year to being a go
- 20:58Speaker 2: to player this year, fun to see and we look
- 21:01Speaker 2: forward seeing them in thenhel on in near future.
- 21:05Speaker 1: That is Jason Bartow, the general manager of your Seattle
- 21:08Speaker 1: Kracking at the King County ice Plex in Northgate. He
- 21:11Speaker 1: and team CEO Todd Laiwiki speaking live to reporters this
- 21:16Speaker 1: morning in the wake of the crack and missing the
- 21:18Speaker 1: playoffs for a fourth time and five years. He said,
- 21:20Speaker 1: offense is the key. They're going to focus on scoring
- 21:23Speaker 1: more points, scoring more goals with your hope, don't spend
- 21:26Speaker 1: as much time in the neutral zone. GM Jason Bardow
- 21:29Speaker 1: says it was cracking. They're going to focus on improving
- 21:30Speaker 1: their special teams of penalty kill and the power play.
- 21:34Speaker 1: I'm with our players, Jason Botoll the GM says disappointed.
- 21:38Speaker 1: When we come back, we'll kick off the show as

- 23:11Speaker 1: got into some question and answers from the assembled media.
- 23:16Speaker 1: The highlights we'll get to here and the headlines brought
- 23:18Speaker 1: to you by Frost furuod cors Light choose chill first
- 23:21Speaker 1: of all, the Mariners last night, Kyle Roley reached base
- 23:25Speaker 1: three times. That's a good thing, right, including the second
- 23:27Speaker 1: home run as many nights. It's fourth of the season.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Oio Rodriguez got on base three times that The Mariners
- 23:32Speaker 1: still lost last night, five to two to the A's.
- 23:35Speaker 1: EM's got eight hits total, seven of them singles plus
- 23:38Speaker 1: Roley's home run. Six loss in eight games for the Mariners.
- 23:42Speaker 1: Now ten and fifteen, the A's lead the American League
- 23:45Speaker 1: West at thirteen and eleven. Game three of the three
- 23:47Speaker 1: game series is today, one ten at the yard. Judging
- 23:50Speaker 1: by the window and Elliott ba I can't even see
- 23:52Speaker 1: the water from him about fifty yards from It's going
- 23:54Speaker 1: to be a closed roof day at the stadium for
- 23:56Speaker 1: the finale of the homestand Logan Gilbert the opening day
- 23:59Speaker 1: Star is one in three going today against the Athletics
- 24:03Speaker 1: for the Mariners, trying to salvage at least one game
- 24:05Speaker 1: of the three game set against the Athletics. The Mariners
- 24:08Speaker 1: designated for assignment reliever Casey Beans Casey Legomena one night
- 24:14Speaker 1: after he allowed the A's the three deciding runs in
- 24:16Speaker 1: the eighth inning when he was put in because of
- 24:18Speaker 1: all the limitations the Mariners put on their relievers this
- 24:22Speaker 1: time of year. Can't pitch as Chuck and Ashley were
- 24:25Speaker 1: outlining in the show before us. Can't pitch the If
- 24:28Speaker 1: you end an ending, you can't start a new one.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Can't pitch consecutive days for some cases anyway, Casey ligamina
- 24:34Speaker 1: I found himself in a three to three game in
- 24:36Speaker 1: the eighth gave up three runs promptly to the A's
- 24:39Speaker 1: and the Mariners went with their last or next to
- 24:43Speaker 1: last reliever as far as ability, skill, and leverage in
- 24:47Speaker 1: a three to three game and they lost six or four. Well,
- 24:50Speaker 1: the next day they designated him for assignment. Logomy who's
- 24:53Speaker 1: gone or he will be going the next ten days,
- 24:55Speaker 1: Seattle recalled reliever Alex hop When he pitches, it'll be
- 24:59Speaker 1: his major debut out of the bullpen. He did not
- 25:01Speaker 1: pitch last night. The NFL Draft again tomorrow. The Seahawks
- 25:05Speaker 1: first pick is at thirty two, the last choice of
- 25:07Speaker 1: the first round, and Chris, it sounds like the rest
- 25:09Speaker 1: of the country is starting to catch up to Oh,
- 25:11Speaker 1: they're probably gonna trade down again.
- 25:14Speaker 10: You know.
- 25:15Speaker 9: Rinter meepete man, rinter me pete. Yes, they're going to
- 25:18Speaker 9: trade out of that and try to get some more picks. Absolutely,
- 25:21Speaker 9: at eleven am, we're going to talk to Josh Edwards.
- 25:23Speaker 9: He's an NFL draft writer for CBS Sports. He's on
- 25:25Speaker 9: his way to Pittsmann, probably already there. I think he
- 25:27Speaker 9: lives in West Virginia, you say, Chris, So that's about
- 25:30Speaker 9: an hour drive up the road of Interstate seventy nine,
- 25:32Speaker 9: back in my old stomping grounds. We'll talk to Josh
- 25:35Speaker 9: Edwards at eleven o'clock about a more national perspective of
- 25:38Speaker 9: the NFL draft. We'll also get into my micro draft
- 25:41Speaker 9: Thenews Tribune dot com for the NFL's first round.
- 25:43Speaker 4: I got a couple of trades at the top of that.
- 25:45Speaker 1: A lot of edge rushers and a lot of left
- 25:47Speaker 1: tackles at block edge rushers going in the first round
- 25:50Speaker 1: NBA playoffs last night, the Lakers still without Luka Donchets
- 25:53Speaker 1: in Austin Reefs. How about that, Chris, I knew that
- 25:56Speaker 1: beat the Rockets in Los Angeles last night to take
- 25:58Speaker 1: a two games to unleading the best of seven first
- 26:00Speaker 1: round series. I watched that game, Chris. It's the first
- 26:04Speaker 1: I watched the last eight minutes. It's the first extended
- 26:08Speaker 1: game NBA game I've watched all year, my son and I.
- 26:10Speaker 1: My son wanted to watch the end of the game,
- 26:12Speaker 1: so we watched it. Kevin Durant did play for Houston.
- 26:16Speaker 1: He had nine turnovers.
- 26:19Speaker 9: Yeah, there were blitz in him. He is They just
- 26:21Speaker 9: kept jumping him. Yeah, and he has to settle in.
- 26:25Speaker 9: Stop getting to the top of the key. Maybe get
- 26:27Speaker 9: to the I would say closer to the rim. That
- 26:31Speaker 9: way he can see and have a vantage point because
- 26:32Speaker 9: he has seven feet. When you at the top of
- 26:34Speaker 9: the key and guys are blitzing you, he just picks
- 26:36Speaker 9: up his dribble, turns it over. You got to get
- 26:38Speaker 9: down to the block. I'm not saying he's physical, but
- 26:40Speaker 9: he can at least see everything that's coming at him
- 26:42Speaker 9: as opposed to trying to do it at the top
- 26:44Speaker 9: of the key. So I'm curious to see how Emiodoka
- 26:47Speaker 9: addresses that situation, like, Hey, we want you actually closer
- 26:50Speaker 9: to the paint than at the top of the key,
- 26:51Speaker 9: because yeah, we know you're a threat. But if they're
- 26:53Speaker 9: gonna w every time you touch the basketball, at some point,
- 26:56Speaker 9: you're gonna have to pivot and try to get close
- 26:58Speaker 9: to the hoop. And create better shopper change for your
- 27:00Speaker 9: teammates if you're gonna pass the ball.
- 27:01Speaker 1: This NBA analysis brought to you by Christopher Kidd, oday
- 27:05Speaker 1: basketball track player. He was our NBA resident expert here.
- 27:08Speaker 4: At the station.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I will say this too, my twenty two year old
- 27:12Speaker 1: son Eric, watching a game with him. I knew Kevin Duran,
- 27:15Speaker 1: of course, I know Lebron James, of course, Marcus Smart
- 27:19Speaker 1: who used to play for the Boston Celtics. Wow, And
- 27:21Speaker 1: that's it. I didn't know anyone. I mean, they were
- 27:23Speaker 1: naming nudes. I was like Chi Moore, what who.
- 27:28Speaker 9: He was with the Wizards, So you would have never
- 27:30Speaker 9: heard of He was an NBA purgatory. He was out
- 27:32Speaker 9: there just dropping twenty a night or whatever.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Nobody. Yeah.
- 27:36Speaker 9: And then the Lakers like, oh, you're a great player
- 27:38Speaker 9: when you Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: But even some of these dudes. There was a dude
- 27:41Speaker 1: with a receiving hairline for the Lakers, looked like he
- 27:43Speaker 1: was fifty years old. He looked like Mitch Kupchuk back
- 27:45Speaker 1: in the day or something.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Now.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Louke Canard, No, not the left Canard, the left Duke right.
- 27:51Speaker 1: My son pointed out, he went to Duke, and I'm like,
- 27:53Speaker 1: did he go to Duke in nineteen eighty and he's
- 27:56Speaker 1: only been on a couple of years into the Just
- 27:58Speaker 1: got that old hair man? Who do the Rockets have?
- 28:02Speaker 1: They had the point guard that used to play for
- 28:03Speaker 1: Oregon State, right, Washington? No, Dylan Brooks, what you're thinking of.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm thinking of a younger the point guard last night.
- 28:11Speaker 1: I thought his name was Washington.
- 28:12Speaker 9: I'm sure fred Fred van Vliet was their point guard,
- 28:16Speaker 9: but he tore his knee up, so he's out for
- 28:18Speaker 9: the season. They don't have a point guard. Amen Thompson,
- 28:21Speaker 9: Amen Thompson, That's what I'm thinking of. Got it?
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yes?
- 28:23Speaker 4: Any play to Oregon State?
- 28:25Speaker 1: Uh, let me do the google. He played at, Well,
- 28:29Speaker 1: Oregon State among probably three schools.
- 28:32Speaker 9: Well, continue your anyway. I No, that's right. He ended
- 28:37Speaker 9: up he went to Like, yeah, he didn't go that route.
- 28:40Speaker 9: He basically went pro out of high school. Okay, So,
- 28:43Speaker 9: but they don't have a point guard. So you noticed
- 28:44Speaker 9: that immediately and was like, well that's stupid.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Well maybe that's why they're running the offense through Kevin
- 28:48Speaker 1: Duran at the top of the key.
- 28:49Speaker 9: They made they should have when Fred van Vliet got hurt.
- 28:52Speaker 9: Their first call should have been I don't know a
- 28:55Speaker 9: point guard. One guy who I thought they should have
- 28:57Speaker 9: went after is Spencer Dinwiddie, who's been point guard in
- 29:00Speaker 9: this league for a very long time. Could have easily
- 29:02Speaker 9: come in and ran the offense. I can shoot Chris Paul.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Isaiah Thomas my Man I if you're out there.
- 29:11Speaker 9: I'm sure he would definitely take the opportunity.
- 29:14Speaker 1: He would he could run an offense.
- 29:17Speaker 9: I think he can. So they could have done anything
- 29:20Speaker 9: but what they have put out on the court. So
- 29:21Speaker 9: they're just making dumb decisions and it's coming back to
- 29:23Speaker 9: bite them.
- 29:24Speaker 1: The seventy six ers one at Boston, I'm sure how
- 29:26Speaker 1: that happened. It was a great game, was it? Oh Man? Wow?
- 29:30Speaker 1: Tyrese Maxi Maxi put on a show.
- 29:34Speaker 4: That's a name I've heard of.
- 29:35Speaker 9: He is just no Joel Embiid no problem, Tyree said,
- 29:40Speaker 9: I got y'all and he showed out, showed up and
- 29:43Speaker 9: showed out on the road. By the way, it's not
- 29:45Speaker 9: as if they played a home game. He was on
- 29:47Speaker 9: the road doing this, So good for them. They're still
- 29:50Speaker 9: going to lose the series. But also a rookie VJ
- 29:52Speaker 9: at Edgecombe, he played really good ball as well, So
- 29:55Speaker 9: they got some young talent over there. They're not they're
- 29:57Speaker 9: not afraid of the big bad wolf in the Boston Celtic,
- 30:00Speaker 9: which is great.
- 30:00Speaker 4: They're not the same Celtics, correct.
- 30:03Speaker 9: They're trying to figure out what to do after Joel
- 30:05Speaker 9: MBI because it looks like his careers. You know, I
- 30:09Speaker 9: don't see him much playing much longer. It's just unfortunate.
- 30:11Speaker 1: No, I mean the Celtics, they're not the same Celtics. No,
- 30:14Speaker 1: they're a different team.
- 30:15Speaker 9: But defensively, they just did not perform like they should
- 30:18Speaker 9: have last night against a young Sixers team.
- 30:21Speaker 1: So we'll see how they respawn. How about the Trailblazers
- 30:24Speaker 1: they went last night in San Antonio. Of course, Victor
- 30:26Speaker 1: women yall had played just twelve minutes. He got concussed.
- 30:29Speaker 1: His head bounced off the floor.
- 30:30Speaker 9: Yeah, they pulled the chair on him and he literally
- 30:33Speaker 9: just fell right on his face. So I hope he
- 30:36Speaker 9: can get back sooner than later.
- 30:37Speaker 1: But I mean, they play what Thursday, he won't be playing.
- 30:40Speaker 9: I don't think he'll be playing tomorrow, So his next
- 30:44Speaker 9: chance will probably be Game five, maybe Game six, depending
- 30:47Speaker 9: on the concussion protocol. If he's back so I'm hoping
- 30:51Speaker 9: that he gets to come back, because this Portland team
- 30:54Speaker 9: is not They're not bad.
- 30:55Speaker 1: They got some guys.
- 30:55Speaker 9: They got Drew Holliday, who has been to the finals
- 30:58Speaker 9: they got to They got some pieces on that team.
- 31:00Speaker 9: So I'm I'm kind of worried that San Antonio might
- 31:04Speaker 9: could lose this series.
- 31:05Speaker 1: If if win bin Yama doesn't come right right, the
- 31:07Speaker 1: whole series has changed. Yeah, he injured in the second quarter.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Blazers win at San Antonio, so they're won one, heading
- 31:13Speaker 1: to Portland for Game three. Stanley Cup playoffs last night,
- 31:15Speaker 1: which I was watching Tampa Bay by Montreal at overtime
- 31:18Speaker 1: with a great game in Florida to tie their best
- 31:21Speaker 1: to seventh series at a game each. Each of them
- 31:23Speaker 1: have gone overtime. They're heading back to Quebec for Game three.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Boston won at Buffalo Wilde Seene again in the New
- 31:29Speaker 1: odd in Buffalo to even that series at a game
- 31:32Speaker 1: a piece. Utah won at Vegas to even that series
- 31:34Speaker 1: the first ever Utah Mammoth playoff win. Colorado rallied Lay,
- 31:39Speaker 1: tied the Kings of Force overtime, then beat La to
- 31:42Speaker 1: take a two oh series lead. In the game that
- 31:43Speaker 1: ed at about like midnight Pacific time, so no one
- 31:46Speaker 1: on the East Coast was watching that. Last night in
- 31:49Speaker 1: Major League Baseball, beside the Mariners losing again, the San
- 31:52Speaker 1: Diego Padres interestingly became the first team to win a
- 31:55Speaker 1: game one nothing at Corsefield and Denver's visiting team to
- 31:58Speaker 1: win a one nothing game at Corsefield since two thousand
- 32:01Speaker 1: and six.
- 32:02Speaker 4: It's been twenty years since.
- 32:05Speaker 1: The visiting team went into Colorado and Corsefield and won
- 32:08Speaker 1: game one nothing. That the Potters did last night. Potter's
- 32:10Speaker 1: are a jit, obviously, and the Mets, oh, they lost
- 32:14Speaker 1: their twelfth in a row last night. They blew a
- 32:16Speaker 1: three to zero lead, their closer gave it up. Of course,
- 32:18Speaker 1: they're post Edwin Diaz. Now, who's in the Dodgers's I
- 32:23Speaker 1: see he's gonna have elbow surgery for loose particles in
- 32:25Speaker 1: his elbow, Edwin Diaz's. But anyway, the new closer blows it.
- 32:30Speaker 1: A three nothing lead becomes a final three loss for
- 32:32Speaker 1: the Mets, lost twelve in a row. Now on with
- 32:36Speaker 1: the show, We're gonna go NFL Draft heavy, of course,
- 32:41Speaker 1: because of the draft being tomorrow, starts at five pm
- 32:45Speaker 1: Pacific time. Chris and I are here to tell you
- 32:48Speaker 1: can sit and watch all night and you're not gonna
- 32:51Speaker 1: see the Seahawks make a pick.
- 32:53Speaker 4: I'm pretty certain of that. Now.
- 32:55Speaker 1: The talk is the Arizona Cardinals are going to move
- 32:58Speaker 1: up from thirty four to thirty two because the can
- 33:00Speaker 1: census is that Tys Simpson, the quarterback from Alabama, is
- 33:02Speaker 1: going to be available at thirty two when the Seahawks
- 33:04Speaker 1: are picking. Of course, the Seahawks aren't going to pick him.
- 33:07Speaker 1: They just picked an Alabama quarterback last year as a
- 33:09Speaker 1: project for a long term Jalen Milroe, and Sam Darnold
- 33:13Speaker 1: is going to get a new contract by this time
- 33:14Speaker 1: next year after leading his team to win the Super Bowl.
- 33:17Speaker 1: Of course, so that's the right sit situation for a
- 33:21Speaker 1: thirty second pick to get traded down a quarter a
- 33:24Speaker 1: team that wants to jump up for a quarterback. Arizona
- 33:26Speaker 1: has the third pick in the draft. There is some
- 33:29Speaker 1: talking tooting from Peter Schrager, a ESPN used to be
- 33:32Speaker 1: the NFL network who's pretty douted on teams and stuff.
- 33:36Speaker 1: What he is hearing is that Jeremiah Love, the running
- 33:39Speaker 1: back from Notre Dame, will go third to Arizona. I
- 33:42Speaker 1: have mocked at the news tribute in Newstribune dot com
- 33:44Speaker 1: this morning for the NFL's first round. I think John
- 33:48Speaker 1: Harbo and the Giants remember Harbor, now the coach of
- 33:50Speaker 1: the New York Giants. I think they're going to jump
- 33:52Speaker 1: up to third, trade with Arizona and get Jeremiah Love
- 33:55Speaker 1: with the third pick in the draft. Harbaugh is going
- 33:58Speaker 1: to want a running back. He's gonna want to run
- 34:00Speaker 1: the ball. He's going to take the heat off of
- 34:02Speaker 1: Jackson Dart of having to carry that offense in New York.
- 34:06Speaker 1: And I a package of a fourth and perhaps even
- 34:09Speaker 1: fifth round pick to even jump up two spots from
- 34:12Speaker 1: five to three. The Giants have two picks in the
- 34:14Speaker 1: top ten, five and ten, and I have them mocked
- 34:17Speaker 1: to jump up with the Cardinals. The Cardinals move down
- 34:19Speaker 1: and adding a couple more picks, and they get an
- 34:23Speaker 1: offensive lineman that they need, and the Giants get Jeremiah
- 34:26Speaker 1: Love with the third pick in the draft, and then
- 34:28Speaker 1: down to ten. The way I have it falling down,
- 34:30Speaker 1: they go get a guy that a lot of people
- 34:32Speaker 1: think the Giants are going to get a five.
- 34:33Speaker 4: I think they're gonna get him a ten.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Caleb Downs, the safety from first Alabama and then Ohio State,
- 34:40Speaker 1: who Rob Rang thinks is the best player in this draft.
- 34:42Speaker 1: The Koma Guru Tacoma based your roof box sports dot
- 34:46Speaker 1: com NFL draft expert, he thinks Caleb Downs the best
- 34:50Speaker 1: player on the whole board, and I think the Giants
- 34:52Speaker 1: get him a ten. The Newsterman dot Com has that
- 34:56Speaker 1: whole first round. I'm saying, not only do the Giants
- 35:00Speaker 1: trade up from five until three with Arizona pickup in
- 35:03Speaker 1: Arizona picking up some more picks, I have the Cleveland Browns,
- 35:07Speaker 1: who have been my buddies in Ohio, saying the Browns
- 35:10Speaker 1: are begging to trade down from six and get more picks.
- 35:13Speaker 1: The Browns trading down from six to fifteen with Tampa
- 35:16Speaker 1: Bay and picking up more picks for later and giving
- 35:21Speaker 1: the Browns right now who have two first round picks,
- 35:23Speaker 1: so the Browns also have a first round pick later,
- 35:25Speaker 1: which makes them ripe to move down from six if
- 35:27Speaker 1: they want to. All of that happening, of course, before
- 35:31Speaker 1: the Seahawks pick. I also at twenty three. Chris have
- 35:36Speaker 1: a familiar name for Washington Huskie fans. There's a lot
- 35:39Speaker 1: of smoke in the East Coast that AJ Brown's about
- 35:42Speaker 1: to get traded to the Patriots, probably in a post
- 35:46Speaker 1: June one designation for salary cap and money purposes, which
- 35:50Speaker 1: would leave a need at wide receiver. I'm saying, Denzel Boston,
- 35:55Speaker 1: Washington Husky, goes to the Eagles. I just learned yesterday
- 35:59Speaker 1: while research and all of this. And there's some Husky
- 36:01Speaker 1: fans out there listening here in the home of the Huskies.
- 36:04Speaker 1: They probably already knew this. Jetfish, the Huskies head coach,
- 36:09Speaker 1: is college buddies with Howie Roseman, the Eagles general manager.
- 36:12Speaker 4: You're shaking your head like you knew that already.
- 36:15Speaker 1: You said it this morning.
- 36:16Speaker 4: I was listening. Yeah, thank you Chris for getting up early.
- 36:18Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I said it with Chuck at at seven o'clock. They
- 36:21Speaker 1: both went to the University of Florida in the mid
- 36:23Speaker 1: nineteen nineties. And you don't think that they've talked inside
- 36:26Speaker 1: ball at about Denzel Boston and that Howie Roseman has said, yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 1: we're probably going to trade AJ Brown. We need a
- 36:32Speaker 1: wide receiver. How's Denzel Boston? What's he like in the offense,
- 36:35Speaker 1: what's he like in the locker room? What's he liking?
- 36:37Speaker 1: Off the field. What's he like in work ethic? Nobody
- 36:41Speaker 1: in the NFL has an inside track to knowledge on
- 36:44Speaker 1: Denzel Boston more than Howie Roseman and then Eagles because
- 36:46Speaker 1: of Jetfish, and I'm picking that that's where they go
- 36:49Speaker 1: at twenty three. Philadelphia picking Denzel Boston, the University of
- 36:53Speaker 1: Washington wide receiver. A lot of edge rushers and tackles
- 36:58Speaker 1: to block edge rushers are going to go in the
- 37:01Speaker 1: first round. Cayden Proctor, big left tackle. Calso played guard
- 37:06Speaker 1: three hundred and sixty five pounds. I have going from
- 37:08Speaker 1: east from Alabama. I have him going to the Panthers.
- 37:10Speaker 1: At nineteen. I had the Cowboys taking a cornerback that
- 37:13Speaker 1: a lot of people think the Seahawks might take. The
- 37:15Speaker 1: Seahawks have visited with Colton Hood, cornerback from Tennessee. Hood
- 37:21Speaker 1: is really attractive in the Seahawks sense because he really
- 37:24Speaker 1: likes to put to tackle running backs and support the
- 37:27Speaker 1: run and comes up hard like a safety at a
- 37:30Speaker 1: corner position. And that's Mike McDonald loves that. But I
- 37:34Speaker 1: think the Cowboys are just terrible on defense and they're
- 37:37Speaker 1: going to I think use both of their first round
- 37:39Speaker 1: picks on defensive players, and Colton Hood at twenty won't
- 37:42Speaker 1: even be around for the Seahawks to consider. And then
- 37:47Speaker 1: I mentioned Denzel Boston at twenty three. So right before
- 37:50Speaker 1: the Seahawks, I have the Texans taking left guard vega Ione,
- 37:54Speaker 1: who I don't know if we'll drop all the way
- 37:55Speaker 1: to twenty eight. Left guard is supposed to be the
- 37:57Speaker 1: best interior offensive lineman in this draft from Penn State.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Jermad McCoy. Jamal McCoy is an interesting one because he
- 38:04Speaker 1: has a knee issue and he may need a surgery
- 38:08Speaker 1: a second one. He's already had one, and there are
- 38:11Speaker 1: some teams that may have him off their board because
- 38:14Speaker 1: of medical concerns off their board in the first round. Anyway,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I had the Chiefs taken to Gerard McCoy, the cornerback
- 38:20Speaker 1: from Tennessee twenty nine, in the wake of the Chiefs
- 38:23Speaker 1: trading Trent McDuffie, the All Pro corner to the Rams.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Then thirty Casius Holle. He's an edgdresser from Texas A
- 38:29Speaker 1: and m that the Seahawks have been looking at. The
- 38:32Speaker 1: Dolphins really need help on defense too, and a lot
- 38:34Speaker 1: of other places. I have them taking him at thirty.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Cashius Howl from Texas A and M Caleb Blama, who
- 38:40Speaker 1: the forty nine ers have been reportedly interested in at
- 38:42Speaker 1: offensive tackle from Utah. I say he goes to the
- 38:46Speaker 1: Patriots at thirty one. The Patriots are looking to restock
- 38:48Speaker 1: on the offensive line, and that gets you down to
- 38:50Speaker 1: thirty two, which in my scenario here at the News
- 38:52Speaker 1: Tribune would say that Ty Simpson would be available. So
- 38:57Speaker 1: that's all at the Newstribune dot com. I'm afraid Seahawk
- 38:59Speaker 1: fan you may be waiting three and a half hours
- 39:01Speaker 1: and seeing the Seahawks do nothing tomorrow, so that might
- 39:04Speaker 1: be the night to walk the dog or go out
- 39:06Speaker 1: for pop or whatever and not worry about the draft.
- 39:09Speaker 1: And then Friday they would start early with early in
- 39:11Speaker 1: the second round.
- 39:13Speaker 4: Up.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Next, more about what Jason Barrow and the Kraken had
- 39:16Speaker 1: to say, Cracking leadership had to say a little bit
- 39:18Speaker 1: more in the NFL Draft before we talk at the
- 39:20Speaker 1: top of the hour to Josh Edwards of CBS Sports
- 39:22Speaker 1: NFL Draft Writer. All that coming up on ninety three
- 39:24Speaker 1: point three KJRFM, Welcome back Greg Bell, Christopher Kay with you.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We will be every weekday from now until well for
- 39:36Speaker 1: the end of time. Though it's semi permanent from ten
- 39:38Speaker 1: am to two to noon here on ninety three point
- 39:40Speaker 1: three KJRFM, as permanent.
- 39:42Speaker 4: As it can be in this business.
- 39:43Speaker 1: I guess Seahawks mock draft I have at the News
- 39:46Speaker 1: Tribune dot Com. I'm trading back from thirty two tomorrow
- 39:49Speaker 1: night to thirty nine at the top of the second
- 39:50Speaker 1: round seven picks into the second round with Cleveland and
- 39:53Speaker 1: getting a fourth round pick, their fifth pick over all
- 39:55Speaker 1: the draft and doing so. Then at thirty nine, I
- 39:58Speaker 1: have to take a Malachi Lawrence Edward sure from an
- 40:00Speaker 1: outside linebacker who also does a lot. He does runs support.
- 40:03Speaker 1: He's in pass coverage, not just a one trick pony.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Prototypical size and speed for an edge rusher. Male Kai
- 40:09Speaker 1: Lawrence edge rusher from UCF to the Seahawks at thirty
- 40:12Speaker 1: nine is what I have a mark at sixty four
- 40:14Speaker 1: their original picked a round two Brandon Ceci, the cornerback
- 40:16Speaker 1: from South Carolina. We discussed this week why he's a
- 40:19Speaker 1: Mike McDonald guy if I've ever heard one. In the
- 40:21Speaker 1: draft ninety six, bottom of the third round of the
- 40:23Speaker 1: Seahawks taking Dominic Orange, big Citrus they call him. He's
- 40:27Speaker 1: three hundred and sixty plus pounds from Iowa State, a
- 40:30Speaker 1: guy who stayed with Iowa State all four years despite
- 40:33Speaker 1: a lot of million dollar offers to go somewhere else.
- 40:35Speaker 1: And the Seahawks and Mike McDonald noticed that loyalty and
- 40:38Speaker 1: that's part of the culture they want to build one
- 40:40Speaker 1: oh seven. Not sure he's gonna last this long, but
- 40:42Speaker 1: it is a depressed running back market.
- 40:43Speaker 4: This year.
- 40:44Speaker 1: Mike Washington Junior, the running back from Arkansas two hundred
- 40:46Speaker 1: and twenty three pounds, ran a.
- 40:47Speaker 4: Four point three to three four three three forty at
- 40:50Speaker 4: the combine, the fastest for a running backup of two
- 40:52Speaker 4: hundred and twenty pounds. I had the Seahawks getting him
- 40:56Speaker 4: in the fourth round with the pick they get from
- 40:57Speaker 4: Cleveland by moving back from thirty two to thirty nine,
- 41:00Speaker 4: and then in the sixth round the pick they got
- 41:01Speaker 4: from the Browns last summer when they traded senator to
- 41:03Speaker 4: Karras during training camp and as Cooper a right guard
- 41:07Speaker 4: four year starter for the University of Miami, Anthony Bradford's
- 41:11Speaker 4: We've talked about Anthony Bradford a lot in this market,
- 41:14Speaker 4: but his contract suddenly ends after this season, so they
- 41:16Speaker 4: have a decision to make it right to guard, and
- 41:17Speaker 4: I'm saying they picked an as Cooper guard from Miami
- 41:19Speaker 4: as a possible longer term replacement. Also, my buddy Monty Pole,
- 41:24Speaker 4: veteran Bay Area reporter covering to the Golden State Warriors.
- 41:26Speaker 4: I've known Money since we covered the Raiders together back
- 41:28Speaker 4: in the early two thousands. He reported yesterday that unless
- 41:31Speaker 4: there's a change of heart, Steve Kerr has coached his
- 41:34Speaker 4: last game for the Golden State Warriors immediately. There are
- 41:38Speaker 4: multiple reporters here in Seattle who think that Steve Kerr
- 41:42Speaker 4: would be the front runner to be the new president
- 41:44Speaker 4: of the first president of operations for the returning Sonics.
- 41:48Speaker 4: Didn't have an experience in that role. But what would
- 41:50Speaker 4: you think of that.
- 41:50Speaker 9: Chris, I'd rather him coach. I was thinking the same thing,
- 41:54Speaker 9: Why not coach the Sonics. I know you had a
- 41:56Speaker 9: great run with the Warriors. If he's not tired of coaching,
- 41:59Speaker 9: bring him to Seatt for coaching position.
- 42:01Speaker 1: I'm with it totally on that next. Josh Edwards the
- 42:05Speaker 1: NFL draft writer for CBS Sports. He's at the CBS
- 42:07Speaker 1: Sports Networks headquarters in Fort Lauderdale for ITTGE draft coverage. Tomorrow.
- 42:12Speaker 1: We'll talk to him next live about a national perspective
- 42:14Speaker 1: an NFL perspective on the start of the NFL Draft.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Josh Edwards of CBS Sports Next on ninety three point
- 42:21Speaker 1: three KJRFM
