- 0:31Speaker 2: firman welcome back in my friend how are you today.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I am doing well, gentlemen.
- 0:35Speaker 4: A little bit disappointed that you guys will not be
- 0:38Speaker 4: in Starkville for the big game between Alabama and Mississippi
- 0:41Speaker 4: State tomorrow for as much time as both of you
- 0:43Speaker 4: have spent.
- 0:44Speaker 3: On the road, allowing LT to hold things down at
- 0:47Speaker 3: the home base.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Have you guys been road warriors?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Well, we have been. I mean, we've done two straight
- 0:55Speaker 2: Friday shows on the road. Yeah, Tuscaloosa and Auburn.
- 0:58Speaker 6: I was in Tuscaloosa.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah, by the way, next week. Next week on the road, too.
- 1:02Speaker 2: I think that's going to be a high-scoring game. Now,
- 1:04Speaker 2: weather looks like it's going to be okay. Maybe just
- 1:07Speaker 2: one small chance of rain in the game. So I
- 1:09Speaker 2: think weather is going to be okay. If weather is okay,
- 1:12Speaker 2: do you expect a bit of a track meet in
- 1:13Speaker 2: this game?
- 1:15Speaker 7: I do.
- 1:15Speaker 4: I think both these teams are more than capable of
- 1:17Speaker 4: playing from a negative game state, knowing what we have
- 1:20Speaker 4: seen from them so far this year. Big plays have
- 1:23Speaker 4: been very much a part of Alabama's arsenal. I do
- 1:26Speaker 4: worry a little bit about the Tide's slow starts, but
- 1:29Speaker 4: they've found another gear. in each of these contests after halftime.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So even if they were to find themselves behind the
- 1:34Speaker 4: eight ball early in the game, I don't think it
- 1:35Speaker 4: would be a problem. I don't think Mississippi State's defense
- 1:38Speaker 4: provides that much in the way of resistance. And on
- 1:41Speaker 4: the other side, we've seen Mississippi State, I mean, go
- 1:44Speaker 4: through stretches where they can't necessarily get on track, but
- 1:46Speaker 4: then find their sea legs, so to speak, like they
- 1:49Speaker 4: did in the fourth quarter last week against Missouri, erasing
- 1:52Speaker 4: a 24-17 deficit and coming back. I think Kamario Taylor
- 1:56Speaker 4: is going to test this Alabama defense defensively. And I
- 1:59Speaker 4: have no problem with folks looking to try and make
- 2:00Speaker 4: a case to go over the total. In terms of
- 2:03Speaker 4: the side, though, if it got to seven, I would
- 2:06Speaker 4: be forced to kind of value bet Mississippi State.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Thankfully, we're not there yet.
- 2:09Speaker 4: And I hope that number never shows up in the market,
- 2:12Speaker 4: let alone with our friends at Hard Rock Bet.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Any flyer on a live dog Mississippi State plus 180
- 2:18Speaker 5: on Moneyline?
- 2:20Speaker 4: I mean, I do think it's a high-variance game, so
- 2:22Speaker 4: if you believe Mississippi State has a puncher's chance, it
- 2:24Speaker 4: makes a little bit more sense, in my opinion, than
- 2:26Speaker 4: taking the points. Because in this game, no outcome would
- 2:29Speaker 4: really surprise me. If Alabama won the game by 14
- 2:31Speaker 4: to 17 points and Mississippi State couldn't keep up, or
- 2:35Speaker 4: if Kamario Taylor gets white-hot, Keelan Russell struggles a bit
- 2:38Speaker 4: in this particular venue, and who knows exactly what we're
- 2:41Speaker 4: going to get from Alabama. I know you guys have
- 2:43Speaker 4: a lot more familiarity in terms of the travel arrangements
- 2:46Speaker 4: around But I found it this day and age a
- 2:48Speaker 4: little bit surprising, even in Starkville, when they don't have
- 2:50Speaker 4: those kind of accommodations, that the team will be on
- 2:53Speaker 4: a bus ride at the crack of dawn to get
- 2:55Speaker 4: there in time for kickoff with that noon Eastern start.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I would just tell you in college football, most
- 2:59Speaker 1: people stay in these small towns in the South about 55,
- 3:05Speaker 1: 45 minutes to an hour away from the stadium. So
- 3:07Speaker 1: it's not that big of a drive with police escorts.
- 3:10Speaker 1: It's only 85 miles stadium to stadium.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And many travel teams, many teams that are playing at-state
- 3:15Speaker 2: have started staying in Tuscaloosa. So a lot of other
- 3:17Speaker 2: SEC teams are actually making this drive. And nobody says
- 3:21Speaker 2: anything about it because, you know, it's... This has turned
- 3:24Speaker 2: into a bigger story national than it is local because
- 3:27Speaker 2: it's a common thing.
- 3:29Speaker 4: I was going to say, I mean, poking around a
- 3:30Speaker 4: little bit on it, it sounded like this is something
- 3:33Speaker 4: that isn't that uncommon, just a little bit unusual with
- 3:36Speaker 4: a team electing to do this.
- 3:37Speaker 3: But maybe done away with your deep pockets, you should.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Build a nice four-star resort in Starkville that SEC road
- 3:42Speaker 4: fans can take advantage of.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Only four stars.
- 3:44Speaker 3: For those six or seven Bulldog home games each weekend.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well, what are we going to do with the
- 3:47Speaker 1: fifth star? Yeah, only four stars for Dunaway?
- 3:50Speaker 4: I mean, look, let's be honest here, guys. We don't
- 3:52Speaker 4: need to build a church for Easter Sunday in Starkville.
- 3:55Speaker 4: We don't need a five-star resort.
- 3:56Speaker 6: Baby steps.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Unless LT wants to own and operate a sportsbook there,
- 4:01Speaker 4: maybe put a few slot machines in there and figure
- 4:03Speaker 4: out ways that you can generate a little bit of
- 4:05Speaker 4: revenue for 359 other days when Mississippi State doesn't have
- 4:09Speaker 4: a home football game.
- 4:10Speaker 1: A lot of people are talking about this game as
- 4:12Speaker 1: two potential dark horse Heisman candidates. Where are you in
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Heisman race and where does Keelan and Camario factor in?
- 4:20Speaker 4: Well, Camario Taylor is an interesting case because coming into
- 4:23Speaker 4: the year, he was a guy from a raw talent
- 4:25Speaker 4: perspective that made a ton of sense at 125-1. But
- 4:29Speaker 4: at the same time, you wondered if Mississippi State was
- 4:31Speaker 4: going to win enough football games to allow him to
- 4:34Speaker 4: be very much in the discussion. State has started the
- 4:36Speaker 4: season exceptionally well, and that's part of why his number
- 4:39Speaker 4: is as low as 11-1 at some of the national
- 4:42Speaker 4: books that are out there. But then you look at
- 4:44Speaker 4: who State has to play, not just this Saturday against Alabama,
- 4:47Speaker 4: but going forward, and you wonder what kind of video
- 4:50Speaker 4: game-like numbers he'd have to put forth if Jeff Lebby's
- 4:53Speaker 4: bunch only finishes 8-4. Keelan Russell, on the other hand,
- 4:56Speaker 4: you guys know exactly where I fell on that side
- 4:59Speaker 4: of things. Alabama fans told me I was nuts. during
- 5:02Speaker 4: the month of August saying that they weren't even sure
- 5:04Speaker 4: he was going to be the starting quarterback.
- 5:05Speaker 3: He's answered the bell and then some.
- 5:07Speaker 4: There are, of course, going to be plenty of proven
- 5:09Speaker 4: opportunities this week being one. And if Russell can continue
- 5:13Speaker 4: to put up some of those crooked numbers, he will
- 5:15Speaker 4: have an opportunity to fully throw his hat in the
- 5:17Speaker 4: ring next week as a short home underdog where Alabama
- 5:20Speaker 4: projects right around a field goal dog against Georgia should
- 5:24Speaker 4: both teams maintain the status quo this weekend.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Columbia, Missouri, Furman, feels like a great place to find
- 5:29Speaker 2: an upset, except for the fact that Missouri never wins
- 5:32Speaker 2: these types of games under Eli Drinkwitz. That's the problem, right?
- 5:37Speaker 2: Florida would seem primed for getting upset here if it
- 5:40Speaker 2: were somewhere other than maybe Columbia, Missouri.
- 5:43Speaker 4: I mean, the rank numbers are a little bit staggering,
- 5:45Speaker 4: but at the same time, hard to ignore how good
- 5:47Speaker 4: Coach Drink has actually been as a home underdog. I
- 5:50Speaker 4: believe it last checked 10-4 against the numbers, so a
- 5:52Speaker 4: role where they've actually thrived a bit. Clearly, this Missouri offense,
- 5:56Speaker 4: when it comes to creating balance, really misses the tackle-breaking
- 5:59Speaker 4: abilities of Ahmad Hardy, Jamal Roberts, a nice running back,
- 6:02Speaker 4: but nowhere near as dynamic. This is the Austin Simmons
- 6:06Speaker 4: experience that Ole Miss fans saw in a limited sample size.
- 6:09Speaker 4: There are stretches where this guy looks the part, you
- 6:11Speaker 4: think he's going to be a top five quarterback in
- 6:13Speaker 4: the league, and then he puts together drives where he
- 6:15Speaker 4: almost goes colorblind and throws to opposing defensive backs, and
- 6:19Speaker 4: you keep your fingers crossed that those DBs don't take
- 6:21Speaker 4: advantage of the turnover-worthy plays. We've seen this kind of
- 6:24Speaker 4: scenario play out time and time again where Florida stock
- 6:27Speaker 4: is at the top of the market. You wonder if
- 6:29Speaker 4: they're able to run it back and put together a
- 6:31Speaker 4: complete 60 minutes after going on the road to beat
- 6:33Speaker 4: Auburn at Jordan-Hare as a short road favorite there. Of course,
- 6:36Speaker 4: putting together a complete effort last week against Ole Miss.
- 6:39Speaker 4: And I think the one thing for me that really
- 6:41Speaker 4: stood out is every time it looked like Ole Miss
- 6:43Speaker 4: was going to get back in that game, Florida had
- 6:45Speaker 4: an answer. And now here we go into sleepy old Columbia, Missouri.
- 6:49Speaker 4: to see if the Tigers can right some of the
- 6:52Speaker 4: wrongs at this point. If the number continues to leak out,
- 6:55Speaker 4: I'm more and more intrigued to try and back the
- 6:58Speaker 4: dog here. I know sometimes the X's and O's don't
- 7:00Speaker 4: line up, but I still think this Florida defense has
- 7:03Speaker 4: a lot of questions that have to be answered, especially
- 7:05Speaker 4: in hostile territory. But where I did get involved in
- 7:08Speaker 4: this contest was going over the total at 56. I
- 7:11Speaker 4: think we're at 57, 57 and a half. Last check
- 7:14Speaker 4: at Hard Rock Bet. Still feel comfortable going over that number.
- 7:17Speaker 4: I think there are a variety of ways that we
- 7:19Speaker 4: can see this game turn into a bit of a
- 7:21Speaker 4: track meet.
- 7:21Speaker 5: Much like Eli Drinkwit's really good in that spot, so
- 7:24Speaker 5: is Kirk Ferentz in Iowa. They haven't lost as a
- 7:28Speaker 5: home dog since 2022, at least against the number. They're
- 7:32Speaker 5: catching 14. I think you back Michigan as I did
- 7:35Speaker 5: last week. I just can't believe that outcome. Michigan, two
- 7:39Speaker 5: times the team that Iowa was, and they lose that game.
- 7:42Speaker 5: I'm trying to figure this out. I want to lay
- 7:44Speaker 5: the 14, but in Iowa City, that is a lot
- 7:46Speaker 5: of points to a defense that hasn't given up over
- 7:48Speaker 5: 20 points all year.
- 7:50Speaker 4: That might be the most Iowa game by Iowa standards
- 7:54Speaker 4: that we've seen over the last.
- 7:55Speaker 3: Couple of years.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You look at Bill Connolly's postgame win expectancy. Iowa finished
- 8:00Speaker 4: that with a robust 7%, which I think was Dunaway's
- 8:03Speaker 4: attendance record when he was an undergrad back in the day.
- 8:06Speaker 3: When you look at this Iowa team, though, I mean,
- 8:09Speaker 3: they can't run the football well.
- 8:10Speaker 4: There's not much in the way of big play potential
- 8:13Speaker 4: when it comes to throwing it either. I have no
- 8:16Speaker 4: idea how they keep this game competitive other than if
- 8:18Speaker 4: there is Kinnick voodoo on full display with a couple
- 8:21Speaker 4: of special team scores, a couple of poor throws from
- 8:24Speaker 4: Julian saying, and Ryan day has mentioned what this game
- 8:28Speaker 4: was when he went in there and got absolutely embarrassed
- 8:30Speaker 4: as Ohio state's offensive coordinator. I think the Buckeyes just
- 8:33Speaker 4: too much firepower. Iowa had the football gods smiling kindly
- 8:37Speaker 4: upon them last week as they wanted to extract their
- 8:40Speaker 4: pound of flesh from Michigan, who shouldn't have had the
- 8:42Speaker 4: win week one against Western Michigan.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But LT, you watch that game like I did.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I mean, Iowa going 91 yards in the two-minute drill,
- 8:48Speaker 4: I feel like hasn't happened since Brad Banks was the quarterback.
- 8:51Speaker 4: And then Iowa's second touchdown they scored in the game.
- 8:54Speaker 4: On third nine, ball gets deflected. The receiver looked like
- 8:58Speaker 4: he was having some Gatorade with the cheerleaders 20 yards
- 9:00Speaker 4: off the field. Comes back on the field, reestablishes, and
- 9:03Speaker 4: Iowa scores. The worst part of that for me, guys,
- 9:06Speaker 4: I was laying four and a half on the close
- 9:07Speaker 4: as well. At 19-14, I thought I was going to
- 9:09Speaker 4: steal one. Apparently, the gambling gods had very different expectations
- 9:13Speaker 4: for me Saturday afternoon at the big house.
- 9:15Speaker 1: What's crazy is Iowa made Bryce Underwood look like a
- 9:17Speaker 1: good passer.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that's hard to do.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Done away.
- 9:20Speaker 4: I think that is probably the biggest storyline coming out
- 9:23Speaker 4: of that game. It was the most complete effort we've
- 9:25Speaker 4: seen from Bryce Underwood, not just this season, maybe since
- 9:28Speaker 4: taking over as the Michigan quarterback. He had a pair
- 9:30Speaker 4: of receivers go for more than 100 yards. I know
- 9:33Speaker 4: Iowa is going to have a better defensive game plan.
- 9:35Speaker 4: At least I'd like to think for Jeremiah Smith in Illinois,
- 9:37Speaker 4: who had just hoped that, you know, maybe Julian Saini
- 9:40Speaker 4: gets sick and tired of throwing to him. But that's
- 9:42Speaker 4: where I wonder if Iowa's defense can even slow down
- 9:45Speaker 4: the Buckeyes if they start to play downhill. My number
- 9:47Speaker 4: on this game closer to 16, so under two touchdowns,
- 9:50Speaker 4: as scary as it is to do, the only way
- 9:52Speaker 4: to look at 13.5 or better would be backing the
- 9:54Speaker 4: road favorite here.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Auburn and Tennessee used to play each other a lot,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and they played each other occasionally. in Birmingham at Legion
- 10:01Speaker 1: Field it would be like a neutral site game if
- 10:04Speaker 1: you will so to speak but they're back in Neyland
- 10:07Speaker 1: Stadium this weekend can you make a case for Auburn
- 10:10Speaker 1: as a live dog on the road with Tennessee coming
- 10:13Speaker 1: off that battle with number one Texas.
- 10:16Speaker 4: Auburn would be the only side that I could play
- 10:18Speaker 4: in this game, mainly because I have so many concerns
- 10:20Speaker 4: about this Tennessee team offensively. I mean, Faison Brandon looked
- 10:23Speaker 4: like the moment was a little too big for him
- 10:25Speaker 4: against the Texas defense. Josh Heupel, pretty critical of his quarterback,
- 10:29Speaker 4: saying the reads were there. He just has to kind
- 10:31Speaker 4: of grip it and rip it. My word's not his.
- 10:34Speaker 4: But so much of this Tennessee offense over the years,
- 10:36Speaker 4: when you look at where they're at their absolute best defensively,
- 10:39Speaker 4: It's when the ground game gets going and then you
- 10:41Speaker 4: can work with one-on-one matchups on the outside because Tennessee
- 10:45Speaker 4: doesn't have elite wide receivers on this current construction of
- 10:48Speaker 4: the roster. And I think for Auburn, they're going to
- 10:51Speaker 4: be very comfortable along that defensive line, knowing that Tennessee
- 10:54Speaker 4: won't have Wendell Moe amongst others to try and provide
- 10:57Speaker 4: some of that blocking that they'll need to get the
- 10:59Speaker 4: ground game going. My big concern for Auburn is what
- 11:02Speaker 4: we're going to get from this team offensively because I
- 11:04Speaker 4: think Tennessee's defense has been a little bit of an
- 11:07Speaker 4: underrated storyline defensively. so far this year. But when you're
- 11:10Speaker 4: looking at this number right at a full touchdown, I
- 11:12Speaker 4: would love a seven and a half if it popped.
- 11:15Speaker 4: I want no part of expecting Tennessee to win a
- 11:17Speaker 4: game by margin. The only measuring stick game we have
- 11:19Speaker 4: for the Vols so far this season was their win
- 11:21Speaker 4: at Georgia Tech. And that's a W that's not really
- 11:24Speaker 4: holding up as Tech continues to take on water themselves.
- 11:26Speaker 2: Todd Furman is on social media. Todd Furman, Sporting State host,
- 11:30Speaker 2: Bet the Board podcast now a very popular show for years.
- 11:33Speaker 2: And you guys are happy it's back. Bet the Board
- 11:35Speaker 2: podcast right there at Sporting State. Miami visits Clemson Saturday night,
- 11:40Speaker 2: and the only, I mean, there's probably few, if any,
- 11:43Speaker 2: matchups that would favor Clemson, individual matchups in this game.
- 11:46Speaker 2: The only thing that would favor Clemson in this game, Furman,
- 11:49Speaker 2: is Miami's probably played in front of 50,000 combined fans
- 11:52Speaker 2: all season, and they'll have almost double that Saturday night.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I mean, that's really the only thing you could say
- 11:57Speaker 2: that might favor Clemson.
- 11:59Speaker 4: You were telling me that it wasn't a hot ticket
- 12:01Speaker 4: last week when Miami welcomed in the juggernaut of Central
- 12:04Speaker 4: Michigan and people weren't trying to leave Collins Boulevard to
- 12:08Speaker 4: get out there to Hard Rock Stadium and take in
- 12:10Speaker 4: the Hurricanes in all of their glory. This is a
- 12:12Speaker 4: Miami team right now offensively that is humming on all cylinders.
- 12:16Speaker 4: I mean, the connection that Darian Mensah has with Malachi
- 12:19Speaker 4: Toney has really been fun to watch for an impartial observer.
- 12:23Speaker 4: But it's also hard to ignore the fact that Miami
- 12:25Speaker 4: is still banged up in their defensive backfield, down two
- 12:27Speaker 4: of their top projected corners.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Coming into the year.
- 12:31Speaker 4: I'm just not sure Clemson can throw the football enough
- 12:33Speaker 4: and really test these guys. You look at what Tate
- 12:36Speaker 4: Reynolds did last Friday night on the road at Cal,
- 12:39Speaker 4: and it wasn't exactly something that is going to be
- 12:41Speaker 4: hung in the College Football Hall of Fame by any
- 12:43Speaker 4: stretch of the imagination. But I do think Clemson's DBs
- 12:47Speaker 4: are going to give Miami a little bit more resistance
- 12:49Speaker 4: than what we've seen. It's one of the biggest underdog
- 12:51Speaker 4: tags that we have seen for Clemson, let alone a
- 12:54Speaker 4: home underdog role. So I'm sure they'll take the us
- 12:56Speaker 4: against the world mentality. We could have a little bit
- 12:58Speaker 4: of weather playing a role in the forecast here. I
- 13:01Speaker 4: lean under the total, but quite frankly, it's not a
- 13:03Speaker 4: game that I'm kind of running to bet. It will
- 13:05Speaker 4: be good to see Miami get a little bit of
- 13:07Speaker 4: a test, and we'll see if this Clemson team can
- 13:10Speaker 4: at least put together a more competitive effort than what
- 13:12Speaker 4: we saw week one when they took on a star-studded
- 13:17Speaker 4: team in LSU and were absolutely eviscerated, albeit on the
- 13:20Speaker 4: road in Baton Rouge instead of in their own building.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Furman Texas Tech is 4-0 and they're number 12 nationally,
- 13:25Speaker 5: but they just don't look the same.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Will Hammonds already.
- 13:27Speaker 5: Got five picks. He leads the Big 12 in that category.
- 13:30Speaker 5: Now they go to Colorado, who will be starting Isaac Wilson,
- 13:33Speaker 5: former Utah transfer. The Buffaloes, not a good team. This
- 13:38Speaker 5: seems like without even seeing Isaac Wilson, an upgrade over
- 13:41Speaker 5: Juju Lewis. 13.5 also on the road seems like a
- 13:45Speaker 5: lot of points.
- 13:46Speaker 4: This Tech team, I kind of joked on social media, LT,
- 13:49Speaker 4: watching their first half against Sam Houston State, said they'd
- 13:51Speaker 4: be about a 50-point underdog against last year's edition of
- 13:54Speaker 4: Texas Tech. Of course, being facetious in that particular comparison.
- 13:58Speaker 4: But Will Hammond and this Texas Tech offense has left
- 14:01Speaker 4: an awful lot to be desired. And there are some
- 14:03Speaker 4: major red flags around the group. If they can't run it,
- 14:06Speaker 4: can they do enough in the passing game? You need
- 14:08Speaker 4: to be semi-balanced when you're going on the conference road
- 14:11Speaker 4: to Folsom Field to win this game and do so
- 14:13Speaker 4: by margin.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Colorado's, though, isn't a team that I'm really running to back.
- 14:17Speaker 4: You mentioned Isaac Wilson being an upgrade, I think, by
- 14:19Speaker 4: default over Juju Lewis and some of the struggles we've seen,
- 14:22Speaker 4: which For me, it always calls into question the four-
- 14:25Speaker 4: and five-star ratings that a lot of these kids get
- 14:27Speaker 4: because I'm not sure Juju should be a glorified two-star
- 14:30Speaker 4: given his inability to test opposing defenses downfield. There are
- 14:34Speaker 4: going to be opportunities for us to make money betting
- 14:36Speaker 4: against Texas Tech.
- 14:37Speaker 3: I'm just not sure this is the week I want
- 14:39Speaker 3: to do it.
- 14:40Speaker 4: What is interesting, though, about the Big 12 pecking order,
- 14:43Speaker 4: I mean, Tech came into the year kind of as
- 14:44Speaker 4: odds-on favorites. It's right around minus $ 1. 05 at Hard Rock Bet.
- 14:48Speaker 4: That number has now drifted out to plus $ 1. 70 as
- 14:51Speaker 4: both BYU and Utah have shortened the gap. And quietly,
- 14:54Speaker 4: old Oklahoma State, after losing their season opener to Tulsa,
- 14:57Speaker 4: has very much inserted their name into this discussion. We've
- 15:01Speaker 4: seen that number come crashing down into that 12-1, 15-1 range.
- 15:05Speaker 4: And I think there are a number of teams that
- 15:07Speaker 4: are capable of pushing Texas Tech more so than a
- 15:09Speaker 4: lot of us believe coming into the season.
- 15:11Speaker 1: People are talking upset in Starkville. People are talking upset
- 15:14Speaker 1: in Columbia, Missouri. What about the other Columbia? Columbia, South Carolina.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Here goes now nationally ranked Kentucky into playing a Gamecock
- 15:22Speaker 1: team that, frankly, at times looks like they quit on
- 15:25Speaker 1: plays in Tuscaloosa. What do you make of Kentucky and
- 15:28Speaker 1: South Carolina?
- 15:30Speaker 4: These are some of the hardest games to try and
- 15:33Speaker 4: handicap because I think there is such a wide range
- 15:36Speaker 4: of outcomes. And what I mean there is that if
- 15:38Speaker 4: you believe that South Carolina has quit, the number's not
- 15:41Speaker 4: going to matter. You're back in Kentucky on the money
- 15:43Speaker 4: line here in this spot. If you think South Carolina
- 15:45Speaker 4: hasn't thrown in the towel on the season, I mean,
- 15:48Speaker 4: I use this term and I rarely do.
- 15:50Speaker 3: This number's a joke.
- 15:51Speaker 4: When you consider that coming into the year, South Carolina
- 15:54Speaker 4: A & M for me were separated by about four
- 15:56Speaker 4: and a half to five points in terms of power ratings.
- 15:58Speaker 4: Kentucky went on the road to A & M. Of course,
- 16:00Speaker 4: they won that game outright, but they were catching 17.5
- 16:02Speaker 4: in that game. We've seen what A & M is
- 16:05Speaker 4: over the last couple of weeks. Now, here's South Carolina
- 16:08Speaker 4: on the heels of having lost to Mississippi State, having
- 16:11Speaker 4: lost to Alabama, laying right around a field goal. Guys,
- 16:14Speaker 4: the last two quarterbacks they faced are Kamario Taylor and
- 16:17Speaker 4: Keelan Russell. No disrespect to Kenny Minchey, but this is
- 16:20Speaker 4: a major step down in class, and you wonder if
- 16:23Speaker 4: the on-field shenanigans between Dylan Stewart and Shane Beamer galvanizes
- 16:28Speaker 4: the group or continues to fracture them at the seams.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I see it as an ultimate buy-low opportunity for South Carolina,
- 16:34Speaker 4: a chance to salvage their season. But I am fully
- 16:37Speaker 4: aware that if South Carolina goes out there and looks flat,
- 16:40Speaker 4: they could very well lose this game by 7 to
- 16:42Speaker 4: 10 points, if not more. But I think from a
- 16:44Speaker 4: numbers standpoint... I'm nowhere close to this. I'm more in
- 16:47Speaker 4: line with South Carolina being a six and a half,
- 16:49Speaker 4: seven point favorite.
- 16:50Speaker 3: So it's a bet that I've made, not one that
- 16:52Speaker 3: I'm thrilled about.
- 16:53Speaker 4: And I'm very cognizant of the fact that Kentucky could
- 16:56Speaker 4: beat South Carolina if the Gamecocks don't want to be
- 16:58Speaker 4: there Saturday afternoon.
- 16:59Speaker 2: To the NFL with Todd Furman at Todd Furman on
- 17:01Speaker 2: social media. He's with us and you can find his
- 17:04Speaker 2: work at Sporting State as well. Kind of a different
- 17:07Speaker 2: angle on this question, Furman, but the Chargers 0-3 at
- 17:10Speaker 2: the Seahawks 2-1 Sunday. If the Chargers fall to 0-4,
- 17:14Speaker 2: do you have the numbers, like the percentages in this
- 17:17Speaker 2: world of the playoffs, on their odds of even making
- 17:21Speaker 2: it to the postseason?
- 17:22Speaker 4: I don't in front of me, but I'm going to
- 17:24Speaker 4: confidently say it's under about 3% even with the expanded
- 17:28Speaker 4: schedule getting out to 17 games. You'll hear the stats
- 17:31Speaker 4: plenty of times this week about teams that are 0-3
- 17:34Speaker 4: and how difficult the road it is to try and
- 17:36Speaker 4: get into the postseason and the Chargers schedule for those
- 17:39Speaker 4: folks who have taken a peek. I mean, there's no
- 17:41Speaker 4: respite anywhere on there for them until maybe week 8
- 17:44Speaker 4: or week 9. Last week, they forced 5 turnovers, finished
- 17:48Speaker 4: that game plus 4 in turnover margin, and still can't
- 17:51Speaker 4: cover as a seven to a seven and a half
- 17:53Speaker 4: point underdog. This Chargers offense desperately seeking an offensive identity
- 17:57Speaker 4: that they haven't been able to found. And that was
- 17:59Speaker 4: with a very good performance from their defense. I mean,
- 18:01Speaker 4: their D-line made life a heck of a lot more
- 18:03Speaker 4: difficult for Josh Allen than it's been. This game opened
- 18:07Speaker 4: six and a half at hard rock bat. We're now
- 18:09Speaker 4: out to a full touchdown. And the Seahawks, for me,
- 18:11Speaker 4: were one of those unlucky losers last week. I know
- 18:13Speaker 4: what the scoreboard said last But dig into the underlying metrics.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Look at the yards per play. Look at the success rates.
- 18:19Speaker 4: And the Seahawks actually put together a top 10 profile
- 18:22Speaker 4: in terms of overall offensive performance. They were just done
- 18:25Speaker 4: in by turnovers and timely miscues. I think the Seahawks
- 18:28Speaker 4: defensive line eats here. And the only way for me
- 18:31Speaker 4: to look would be backing the favorite. And I wouldn't
- 18:33Speaker 4: be shocked at all, guys, if the Chargers were 0-6
- 18:36Speaker 4: going into their bye week and some major changes on
- 18:38Speaker 4: the horizon for a team. that had postseason aspirations coming
- 18:41Speaker 4: into the year.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Another winless team, the Texans host the Cowboys, three and
- 18:45Speaker 5: a half point favorites here. Texans not only 0-3, 0-3
- 18:48Speaker 5: against the number, just still seem like a much better
- 18:51Speaker 5: team than the Cowboys.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Where are you on Cowboys-Texans?
- 18:55Speaker 4: Positive injury news this week for the Houston Texans. Should
- 18:59Speaker 4: have the services of Nico Collins back in the fold.
- 19:01Speaker 4: And what's interesting, when you look at the Houston Texans,
- 19:04Speaker 4: for CJ Stroud, I mean, when he targets receivers not
- 19:08Speaker 4: named Nico Collins, 7.7 yards per attempt, that number improves
- 19:12Speaker 4: about three full yards when Nico is out there with
- 19:14Speaker 4: an ability to kind of stretch defenses. and takes a
- 19:17Speaker 4: lot more pressure off a ground game that really couldn't
- 19:20Speaker 4: get on track last week in their 1917 loss against
- 19:23Speaker 4: the Indianapolis Colts. This Texans defense, though, most likely going
- 19:27Speaker 4: to be down a key component in Aziz Al-Shayer. And
- 19:31Speaker 4: a lot of folks around that franchise have said his
- 19:33Speaker 4: impact defensively is as big as the offense not having
- 19:37Speaker 4: Nico Collins. So that may raise some concerns there. I
- 19:40Speaker 4: laid a little bit of Texans money line right around
- 19:42Speaker 4: that $ 1.
- 19:42Speaker 3: 50 price tag.
- 19:43Speaker 4: I do think desperation will force their hand a bit.
- 19:46Speaker 4: They can make the Cowboys slightly one-dimensional. But D'Amico Rodgers,
- 19:50Speaker 4: in-game adjustments and in-game clock management leaves a lot to
- 19:54Speaker 4: be desired. I was borderline floored with the way that
- 19:57Speaker 4: he handled the final minute to a minute and 10
- 19:59Speaker 4: seconds against the Colts last week. But I do think
- 20:01Speaker 4: Houston finds a way to win Dallas in an unenviable
- 20:04Speaker 4: travel spot, returning from Rio and being forced out on
- 20:07Speaker 4: the road for the second straight week.
- 20:09Speaker 1: That's a tough situation there. Hey, two things. One, on
- 20:12Speaker 1: the game in Vegas, KC and Las Vegas, both unbeaten. One,
- 20:17Speaker 1: Brown says there'll be more Chiefs fans there than Raiders fans.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And secondly, that's a skinny looking number. What do you
- 20:24Speaker 1: make of the game?
- 20:26Speaker 4: Under normal circumstances, I would agree with Brownie, but there
- 20:29Speaker 4: is actual buzz out here that people are excited about
- 20:32Speaker 4: what the Raiders have been able to do during their
- 20:34Speaker 4: 3-0 start, beating Brownie's Dolphins.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Week 1 doesn't really count. It was an extension of
- 20:38Speaker 3: the preseason.
- 20:39Speaker 4: But being able to upset the Chargers right around a
- 20:42Speaker 4: touchdown underdog week.
- 20:43Speaker 3: 2 and then going down to New Orleans... and being.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Buoyed by a four-turnover outburst, so to speak, in the
- 20:49Speaker 4: fourth quarter, that there's reason to believe this Raiders team
- 20:52Speaker 4: can be competitive.
- 20:53Speaker 3: For me, I remain a little bit more skeptical.
- 20:55Speaker 4: I think defensively, there's still plenty of questions they have
- 20:58Speaker 4: to answer, and the Chiefs are really figuring out what
- 21:01Speaker 4: their new under-center identity looks like with Kenneth Walker, and
- 21:04Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes much more comfortable with a familiar OC in
- 21:07Speaker 4: Eric Biennemi.
- 21:08Speaker 3: I think the market is pretty fair here.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I made it in that five-and-a-half range, but you're talking
- 21:12Speaker 4: about dead numbers where they sit as a four-and-a-half point favorite.
- 21:15Speaker 4: So fun game. I'm very curious to see how both
- 21:18Speaker 4: these teams perform. But one that I don't think anybody
- 21:20Speaker 4: anticipated would be for first place in the AFC West
- 21:24Speaker 4: when the schedule was announced week four at Allegiant Stadium
- 21:26Speaker 4: between the Raiders and Chiefs.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Well, let's say you lived in a city that had
- 21:29Speaker 1: an NFL game like the Chiefs and Raiders, but also
- 21:31Speaker 1: a NASCAR race in the playoffs. Would you choose the
- 21:34Speaker 1: NASCAR race or the NFL game?
- 21:38Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like right now Kyle Larson has
- 21:40Speaker 4: regained his swagger and suddenly trying to put a little
- 21:43Speaker 4: distance between him and the field after that long, windless drought.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I actually did poke around Dunaway, and this is going
- 21:50Speaker 4: to sound somewhat embarrassing. I have not been to an
- 21:53Speaker 4: NFL regular season game. since the Raiders moved out here.
- 21:57Speaker 4: So it has been a while since I've been in
- 22:00Speaker 4: a building, but I will actually be changing that a
- 22:02Speaker 4: week from Monday. I'm going to see LT's beloved Rams
- 22:05Speaker 4: on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Going to make the day trip to see a little
- 22:09Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford, Josh Allen.
- 22:10Speaker 6: Wow.
- 22:11Speaker 2: You ought to fly out there and join him.
- 22:13Speaker 5: How do you feel about the Rams on the road
- 22:15Speaker 5: laying two and a half right now in Philadelphia?
- 22:18Speaker 6: This is a scary spot for the Rams.
- 22:21Speaker 3: And that I'm kicking myself for not laying the two early.
- 22:23Speaker 4: I know you said two and a half number actually
- 22:25Speaker 4: out to three and a half with the news that
- 22:27Speaker 4: there's no Devante Smith for the Eagles.
- 22:29Speaker 3: And so much of that passing game goes through him.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Jalen Hurts. I mean, you watch the all 22 footage.
- 22:34Speaker 4: I mean, Mikhail Lemon looked like he was streaking down
- 22:37Speaker 4: the middle of field multiple times and Hurts just wouldn't.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Get him the ball in space.
- 22:40Speaker 4: So it is a dangerous spot, Philadelphia, a little bit
- 22:44Speaker 4: of a wounded animal coming off of that blowout, embarrassing
- 22:47Speaker 4: loss on Monday Night Football against the Bears. But I
- 22:49Speaker 4: also think the Rams can take the us-against-the-world mentality, knowing
- 22:53Speaker 4: that they had a 26-7 lead the last time they
- 22:56Speaker 4: were in this building, and one of the worst bad
- 22:58Speaker 4: beats that you're going to see in the NFL with
- 23:00Speaker 4: that blocked field goal as time expired. So I can't
- 23:03Speaker 4: get to the Rams as a 3.5-point favorite here. I
- 23:05Speaker 4: don't think there's any reason to panic here. about their
- 23:08Speaker 4: slow start to the season, especially with Puka coming back
- 23:10Speaker 4: into the fold.
- 23:11Speaker 3: But it should be a fun game, and.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I couldn't really make a compelling case to back the
- 23:15Speaker 4: Eagles either. I think there are some real issues with
- 23:17Speaker 4: that team, both on the offensive side and defensively as
- 23:20Speaker 4: well right now.
- 23:20Speaker 2: All right, he is at Todd Furman on social media.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Under the radar pick, Furman. People love it.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Give us one for College Football Saturday that flies under
- 23:27Speaker 1: the radar.
- 23:29Speaker 4: You know, let everybody down. I take shots at you
- 23:31Speaker 4: guys all the time. And an esteemed host alma mater
- 23:34Speaker 4: made me eat a little bit of crow with my
- 23:35Speaker 4: middle Tennessee bet. Plus the seven against the Gamecocks there
- 23:39Speaker 4: in Conference USA play. Let's find a, we'll give you
- 23:43Speaker 4: a side and a total. We'll look at UTEP and
- 23:47Speaker 4: New Mexico, a game that I'm sure will get top
- 23:49Speaker 4: billing against Major League Baseball playoff games and some of
- 23:52Speaker 4: the marquees in that Dunaway man cave of his. These
- 23:55Speaker 4: are two of the slowest teams in college football. UTEP
- 23:57Speaker 4: has really struggled to figure out their offensive identity. New
- 24:01Speaker 4: Mexico is comfortable playing in a rock fight, and while
- 24:04Speaker 4: I believe they'll rip off a couple of explosives, my
- 24:06Speaker 4: numbers make this total 45. I am more than happy
- 24:09Speaker 4: to go under the 48.5. that's currently available at Hard
- 24:12Speaker 4: Rock Bad. And Boise State laying a bit of a
- 24:15Speaker 4: big number. I know it's come off of the key
- 24:17Speaker 4: at 21, but I still think there's some wiggle room
- 24:19Speaker 4: as a 20-point favorite. I'm going to take Utah State.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I like what I've seen from this Aggies team defensively.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Offense can be a little bit of a challenge, but
- 24:28Speaker 4: I feel like this game will be competitive. Boise in
- 24:31Speaker 4: a real weird travel spot having been out in Kalamazoo
- 24:34Speaker 4: last week. I think they win. I'm not sure they
- 24:36Speaker 4: do so that comfortably. So I'll take Utah State plus
- 24:38Speaker 4: the 20 and we'll go under the total in UTEP
- 24:41Speaker 4: New Mexico at 48 and a half.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Do they pull San Diego State off the board out
- 24:45Speaker 1: there because of the mump epidemic?
- 24:49Speaker 3: They haven't, but this number keeps flying up. And you
- 24:51Speaker 3: know what?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Let's see how far it's gone because Texas State opened
- 24:55Speaker 4: in this contest as right around a four-point favorite. San
- 24:57Speaker 4: Diego State, of course, embarrassed last week against Toledo. We
- 25:01Speaker 4: are now looking at Texas State with our friends at
- 25:03Speaker 4: Hard Rock Bet now out to an eight-and-a-half-point favorite, 57-and-a-half
- 25:07Speaker 4: the total. We know there is that outbreak. We know
- 25:10Speaker 4: their players are going to miss. We don't have a
- 25:11Speaker 4: list of names. I wonder how far this continues to
- 25:14Speaker 4: run before you're forced into betting the Aztecs you know,
- 25:17Speaker 4: maybe as a 10, 10 and a half point dog
- 25:19Speaker 4: against G.J. Kinney's Texas State Bobcats.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Have you ever adjusted a line because of the mumps?
- 25:23Speaker 2: Is this the first time in your career this has happened?
- 25:26Speaker 3: You know what? Have not.
- 25:27Speaker 4: But I did have to get in a little bit
- 25:29Speaker 4: of the virology thing during COVID when we weren't sure
- 25:32Speaker 4: which college players were going to be available Saturday morning.
- 25:34Speaker 4: When they were going to be down some guys and
- 25:36Speaker 4: you look at the injury reports and a team has
- 25:37Speaker 4: like 37 dudes that didn't travel and you scramble to
- 25:41Speaker 4: do everything you can to figure out, all right, what's
- 25:43Speaker 4: it mean when you're down not just your starting right
- 25:45Speaker 4: and left tackle but you're basically down to number five
- 25:48Speaker 4: can even put a number on it and a similar
- 25:50Speaker 4: situation to a lesser extent unfolding with the Aztecs uh
- 25:54Speaker 4: within their conference opener against Texas State.
- 25:56Speaker 2: All right at Todd Furman on social media all his
- 25:58Speaker 2: work sport and state.com sport and state.com Furman thank you

- 26:09Speaker 1: The NASCAR race is in Las Vegas this weekend, and
- 26:14Speaker 1: Todd's a big NASCAR fan. I didn't know why he
- 26:15Speaker 1: didn't want to answer. Would he choose to go to
- 26:17Speaker 1: the NASCAR race? He hit Kyle Larson. That's all he
- 26:20Speaker 1: gave me. He didn't acknowledge that, oh, you know, the
- 26:23Speaker 1: race is here in Las Vegas this weekend. They're at
- 26:26Speaker 1: almost the exact same time, too.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I wonder. Head-to-head with the Raiders-Chiefs game?

- 28:03Speaker 1: and then we'll start bouncing around a couple other headlines
- 28:06Speaker 1: for you as well. But if I asked you, Lance,
- 28:12Speaker 1: five biggest games left in this season off the top
- 28:16Speaker 1: of your head, I don't think we have one this weekend.
- 28:18Speaker 2: Now, would you say biggest like?
- 28:20Speaker 1: In the regular season, don't count SEC Big Ten champions.
- 28:22Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 28:22Speaker 2: I'm saying would you say biggest like this is going
- 28:24Speaker 2: to impact the playoffs or biggest like these name brands
- 28:27Speaker 2: getting together?
- 28:27Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I don't think Ohio State and Michigan
- 28:30Speaker 1: is going to make the top five on my list
- 28:32Speaker 1: right now. No, because Michigan is going to be out
- 28:33Speaker 1: of the playoffs.
- 28:33Speaker 5: But I would say this, and again, we can't look forward.
- 28:36Speaker 5: We don't have a crystal ball. But if Mississippi State
- 28:38Speaker 5: and or Iowa wins, those might become some of the
- 28:42Speaker 5: biggest games in college football left.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 2: And for instance, next week, Alabama-Georgia. Bama wins this week.
- 28:49Speaker 2: I would normally make the case that the Alabama-Georgia winner
- 28:52Speaker 2: is a top four seed, except for the fact that
- 28:54Speaker 2: there is a chance they have to play again in
- 28:56Speaker 2: the SEC championship, which would make that one the top
- 28:59Speaker 2: four seed.
- 28:59Speaker 1: The first one I throw out there is Ohio State-Indiana,
- 29:02Speaker 1: because I don't know how much Indiana gets tested before
- 29:06Speaker 1: that game. You know what I'm saying?
- 29:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but if Indiana wins that game, Jim, now Ohio
- 29:10Speaker 2: State does have two losses. And all of a sudden,
- 29:13Speaker 2: a game like Michigan... You trip up in one of those,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and you're out of the playoffs. And Ohio State not
- 29:18Speaker 2: making a 14-team field, or a 12-team field.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Excuse me. That would be a big story. That would
- 29:23Speaker 6: be a big story.
- 29:24Speaker 1: But, Brown, obviously there's downside to every one of these games.
- 29:27Speaker 1: I'm saying right now the five biggest games out there.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Ohio State and Indiana is a huge game, right?
- 29:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:32Speaker 1: I was helping your case. Forget the outcome of the game.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Ohio State-Indiana is huge. Now, we knew that would be everybody's.
- 29:38Speaker 1: What's next? Because going into the year, we had LSU-Ole
- 29:42Speaker 1: Miss circled.
- 29:43Speaker 6: Can I offer up, if Florida survives this week, October 17th,
- 29:48Speaker 6: Florida at Texas.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Or the cocktail party.
- 29:52Speaker 6: Which one? Which one's bigger?
- 29:54Speaker 1: I mean, all of a sudden, every game Florida wins,
- 29:57Speaker 1: that becomes a bigger game down the road. Texas and
- 29:59Speaker 1: Georgia being the two biggest brands in the SEC right now,
- 30:04Speaker 1: other than Alabama, both of those become huge games.
- 30:07Speaker 5: I'll tell you an interesting one, too, just because Notre
- 30:10Speaker 5: Dame plays nobody, but they've got to go to Provo
- 30:12Speaker 5: in two weeks. And I think BYU's got a little
- 30:15Speaker 5: scare coming up tomorrow in Fort Worth. But if BYU survives,
- 30:19Speaker 5: you know, the Holy War is one of those games
- 30:21Speaker 5: you could look at. You heard Furman talk about, you know,
- 30:23Speaker 5: they're right there in the mix to win the Big 12,
- 30:25Speaker 5: both Utah and BYU.
- 30:26Speaker 1: October 17th for that one, yeah.
- 30:28Speaker 5: But there is an early number already. Notre Dame, a
- 30:30Speaker 5: 10-point favorite on the road at BYU. No kick time yet.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I mean, Notre Dame-Miami is obviously still the biggest game remaining,
- 30:37Speaker 1: probably for either one of those two. So you would
- 30:40Speaker 1: go Notre Dame-Miami over Ohio State-Indiana?
- 30:42Speaker 2: Well, here's why.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Maybe so, yeah.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Well, here's why. Notre Dame, help me remember this, and
- 30:46Speaker 2: I'm sorry to have to ask this. Notre Dame can
- 30:48Speaker 2: now get a bye, right?
- 30:51Speaker 6: No. I don't know.
- 30:53Speaker 1: They can if they're top four, yeah.
- 30:55Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying.
- 30:55Speaker 2: They can be in the top four and get a bye.
- 30:57Speaker 2: I'm not asking it legitimately. There was a moment where
- 31:00Speaker 2: they couldn't get the top four bye, but they can now.
- 31:03Speaker 2: You can make a case Notre Dame-Miami is for a
- 31:05Speaker 2: top four bye. I mean, if Notre Dame wins it,
- 31:07Speaker 2: I don't know how Notre Dame avoids getting a top four.
- 31:10Speaker 6: Well, unless they lose in Provo.
- 31:12Speaker 2: That would be a problem there, yes.
- 31:14Speaker 6: By the way, Indiana favored over Ohio State in two weeks.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Wait a minute. Can't be the case.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Indiana is currently favored over Ohio State. So in two weeks,
- 31:24Speaker 1: is that October 17th as well?
- 31:25Speaker 6: Yeah, there's some really good games.
- 31:26Speaker 5: So just real quick, because I pulled this. Florida at Texas. Auburn, Georgia,
- 31:31Speaker 5: for whatever that's worth. Notre Dame at BYU.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Oh, this is October 17th.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Ohio State at Indiana. Alabama at Tennessee. Missouri at Ole Miss.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Mississippi State at LSU. Oklahoma State at Houston. Nebraska, this
- 31:49Speaker 5: could be a story at Oregon if Nebraska continues to win.
- 31:53Speaker 6: I mean, there's some really good games. I was planning
- 31:55Speaker 6: on going to this Alabama-Tennessee game. I'm not sure now.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Because of the TV sleep? Yeah. It's funny.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I thought about that last night because you guys will
- 32:03Speaker 1: be in Knoxville anchoring part of the show there. And
- 32:07Speaker 1: I was like, LT is going to go to the game,
- 32:08Speaker 1: and this is going to be, because somebody wrote a headline,
- 32:11Speaker 1: one of the best Saturdays this year, October 17th. And
- 32:14Speaker 1: when I saw Alabama-Tennessee, I was like, Lance is going
- 32:17Speaker 1: to miss this TV weekend.
- 32:19Speaker 6: No, we've got a really cool cabin.
- 32:20Speaker 5: It's actually in the mountains up in Gatlinburg, which is
- 32:24Speaker 5: I think about a 40-minute drive because I did this
- 32:26Speaker 5: last time a.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Couple years ago.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Multiple TVs or one?
- 32:28Speaker 2: That's going to be a deciding factor because I'll be
- 32:31Speaker 2: there as well.
- 32:32Speaker 5: We've got to see what the TV layout is. But
- 32:34Speaker 5: if it's a really good TV layout, I've got no.
- 32:36Speaker 6: Problem with it.
- 32:36Speaker 2: We could bring a TV.
- 32:38Speaker 6: We could do that. We've got a couple around here.
- 32:40Speaker 2: We've got some around here that we could transport for sure.
- 32:42Speaker 5: But bourbon and a cabin watching all those games? Sounds
- 32:45Speaker 5: like a pretty good Saturday.
- 32:46Speaker 2: They're worse ways to spend a Saturday.
- 32:48Speaker 8: Yep.
- 32:50Speaker 2: By the way, I don't imagine. So you're telling me
- 32:52Speaker 2: Ohio State's a dog in Bloomington. I don't imagine.
- 32:55Speaker 6: One and a half total of 48 and a half.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Bama favored in Knoxville, by the way, one and a half.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I was going to say, I don't imagine that Ohio
- 33:01Speaker 2: State number will meet our threshold, but I will start
- 33:03Speaker 2: drawing the Ohio State logo right now if it dies
- 33:05Speaker 2: for upset alert. There is no chance. Come on, man.
- 33:08Speaker 5: But imagine, I mean, back to your original question, if
- 33:11Speaker 5: Mississippi State and Iowa both win tomorrow, I mean, you
- 33:15Speaker 5: could get a really good two-team parlay money line on
- 33:17Speaker 5: that thing.
- 33:17Speaker 6: I don't think it's going to happen. But if it did,
- 33:20Speaker 6: things change quickly.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Well, if Mississippi State beats Alabama, all of a sudden
- 33:23Speaker 1: they're in this discussion for one of the many games
- 33:25Speaker 1: that they play, like Mississippi State-Texas or someone like that.
- 33:28Speaker 6: Well, you don't think Iowa would be in that discussion?
- 33:29Speaker 2: No, no, no. I mean, for biggest remaining games. I
- 33:31Speaker 2: don't know who Iowa has remaining. I haven't looked at
- 33:33Speaker 2: their schedule, but I know State's going to play Texas.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I mean, they're going to play some games that could
- 33:37Speaker 2: be in this discussion.
- 33:38Speaker 8: Believe it or not.
- 33:39Speaker 5: I mean, Des Moines sports talk this morning has probably
- 33:42Speaker 5: gone through this, but if Iowa does win that game.
- 33:44Speaker 1: It's not a Brown-Sirius-XM dial.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Yeah, not yet. They don't have Des Moines yet. I
- 33:48Speaker 2: was listening to Boomer and Geo on the way in.
- 33:50Speaker 5: They're not going to play another ranked team this year.
- 33:53Speaker 5: So Iowa could still lose this game.
- 33:55Speaker 6: No. They could be 11. I mean, 11-1 in the
- 33:58Speaker 6: Big Ten, they're going to get in. A hundred percent.
- 34:02Speaker 1: We do not need Iowa in a playoff. Give me
- 34:06Speaker 1: some potential losses.
- 34:07Speaker 6: At Washington.
- 34:08Speaker 2: That's a potential loss.
- 34:09Speaker 6: At Minnesota.
- 34:11Speaker 2: They're not going to go through this. First of all,
- 34:13Speaker 2: they're going to lose tomorrow. And then secondly.
- 34:15Speaker 6: Wisconsin at home, at Northwestern, Purdue at home, at Illinois
- 34:18Speaker 6: and Nebraska.
- 34:19Speaker 2: With that offense, they just can't survive.
- 34:22Speaker 6: I'm just saying they will not play another ranked team.
- 34:24Speaker 2: They can't survive that, Jim. If they lose this weekend.
- 34:27Speaker 6: Let me ask you this.
- 34:28Speaker 5: If they lost 55-3 and they go 11-1. They lose
- 34:31Speaker 5: 55-3 tomorrow, but they're 11-1.
- 34:33Speaker 1: This committee is, even though they've added last week a
- 34:37Speaker 1: new criteria where they would take in strength of schedule,
- 34:40Speaker 1: put more emphasis on that, they say. they've yet to
- 34:43Speaker 1: show us that they do anything but look at the standings,
- 34:46Speaker 1: wins and losses.
- 34:47Speaker 6: That's right.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And so 11-1 would still resonate.
- 34:49Speaker 2: As we always go back to in this discussion, Lance,
- 34:51Speaker 2: who owns the college football playoff?
- 34:53Speaker 1: Big Ten and SEC.
- 34:54Speaker 7: Right.
- 34:54Speaker 6: So there's your answer.
- 34:55Speaker 5: Can you imagine, though, at 11-1, if they didn't get in,
- 34:57Speaker 5: the likes of Joel Klatt and Danny Cannell saying, can
- 35:01Speaker 5: you imagine an 11-1 SEC team not getting in?
- 35:04Speaker 6: It would never happen.
- 35:04Speaker 2: You absolutely can't. Because the SEC's No, they are now.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I disagreed in the offseason, but the way this first
- 35:13Speaker 5: month has played out, there is no doubt the SEC
- 35:16Speaker 5: is a better conference.
- 35:17Speaker 2: You can't do a team like, I like State. Let's
- 35:20Speaker 2: say something goes crazy and Alabama wins 41-0 Saturday. State's
- 35:25Speaker 2: still going to play some good teams. Iowa's not going
- 35:27Speaker 2: to play anybody.
- 35:28Speaker 6: Yeah, they're not.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Their best win, obviously, was the Michigan win, but outside
- 35:32Speaker 5: of that, it was a three-point win over Iowa State.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Right now, Michigan's a helmet win. I mean, I don't
- 35:38Speaker 1: know how good that team is.
- 35:39Speaker 2: It's a great helmet.
- 35:40Speaker 6: Yeah, you're right.
- 35:40Speaker 5: At the end of the year, it might be 8-4,
- 35:42Speaker 5: and they might not have a ranked win. Isn't it
- 35:43Speaker 5: funny we don't talk about Ole Miss anymore? Yeah, it's
- 35:46Speaker 5: almost like they died. It's great for Pete Golding. I mean,
- 35:50Speaker 5: he knew he wasn't going undefeated. I mean, do they
- 35:52Speaker 5: even play this weekend?
- 35:54Speaker 8: They don't.
- 35:55Speaker 2: They don't.
- 35:55Speaker 1: They've got to buy to show you how little we're.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Paying attention to.
- 35:58Speaker 6: I mean, they're still a top 10 team.
- 36:00Speaker 8: Right.
- 36:00Speaker 2: One loss.
- 36:02Speaker 6: But we'll be talking about them.
- 36:04Speaker 2: They've got the same thing every SEC team has. It's
- 36:06Speaker 2: like I can give you four or five games that
- 36:08Speaker 2: they can lose from here on.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't be shocked if they go 10-2, though,
- 36:12Speaker 6: looking at the schedule.

- 36:48Speaker 2: Marry the house.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Date the rate, marry the house.
- 36:49Speaker 6: That's right.

- 37:55Speaker 1: A game so good it's not even the big noon kickoff.
- 37:58Speaker 1: It's 2.30 on CBS Ohio State on the road at Iowa.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Here's Kirk Ferentz on chasing perfection against the Buckeyes.
- 38:07Speaker 8: It'll be great to be on KennedyCon Saturday. We'll have
- 38:09Speaker 8: a great crowd out there, that's for sure. A lot
- 38:11Speaker 8: of interest and excitement in town, all that stuff. It's
- 38:14Speaker 8: all good for everybody. That's what's great about college football.
- 38:18Speaker 8: The key for us is to really do our best
- 38:20Speaker 8: to get ready between now and then because, as I mentioned,
- 38:22Speaker 8: we've got our hands full. It's going to take a
- 38:24Speaker 8: perfect game, basically, for us.
- 38:27Speaker 1: First, Forrester's microphone, please. Forrester, right now on a scale
- 38:31Speaker 1: of there's 138 coaches. You try to pull sound for
- 38:34Speaker 1: most of them. How many of them in 2026 still
- 38:38Speaker 1: wear a tie to the news conference?
- 38:41Speaker 2: Oh.
- 38:44Speaker 6: Him.
- 38:44Speaker 2: That's the only one I've seen.
- 38:45Speaker 1: He might be the only one.
- 38:47Speaker 2: I mean, he looked like he was getting ready to
- 38:48Speaker 2: lead the music, you know, for the closing hymn.
- 38:50Speaker 1: The last one to do it in my career was
- 38:54Speaker 1: Gene Stallings.
- 38:56Speaker 2: That's the last guy you've seen wear a tie?
- 38:57Speaker 1: There were some days he didn't do it, but he'd
- 38:59Speaker 1: wear the ties on game day.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Mike Nolan. Mike Nolan.
- 39:03Speaker 1: I didn't cover Mike, but I do remember Mike Nolan.
- 39:06Speaker 6: That was such a weird look.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it was.
- 39:08Speaker 1: I'm racking my brain.
- 39:10Speaker 9: I don't recall seeing any coach that I've pulled a
- 39:13Speaker 9: sound bite from this year.
- 39:15Speaker 1: So weird seeing him in a tie during a news conference.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Scott, not that we do a lot of P.J. Fleck
- 39:21Speaker 2: news conferences, but he plays the game in a tie.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Does he do the news conference in a tie as well?
- 39:26Speaker 2: He's the only guy I can think of wearing a
- 39:27Speaker 2: tie on the sideline. He probably does. Okay.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Look.
- 39:30Speaker 2: You don't have to. It's P.J.
- 39:31Speaker 7: Fleck.
- 39:32Speaker 6: Back to that game.
- 39:34Speaker 5: I was only giving up three touchdowns all year. They're
- 39:37Speaker 5: averaging 216 yards per game on the ground. Kamari Moulton
- 39:41Speaker 5: is one of the best backs in college football. Didn't
- 39:44Speaker 5: have a great game against Michigan. But you go back
- 39:47Speaker 5: to as good as Ohio State looked through the air,
- 39:50Speaker 5: they gave up a lot on the ground to Illinois.
- 39:52Speaker 5: They gave up 199 rushing yards. So if Iowa comes out,
- 39:55Speaker 5: slows this down, shortens the game, Moulton has a big game.
- 39:58Speaker 6: They don't turn the football over.
- 40:00Speaker 2: Ohio State could get Iowa.
- 40:02Speaker 5: They could get Iowa. I don't think it's going to happen.
- 40:04Speaker 5: I like Ohio State in this game.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Well, here's Ryan Day talking exactly about that, not playing
- 40:10Speaker 1: Iowa's kind of game.
- 40:12Speaker 9: Ryan, it seems like a lot of teams go to Kinnick,
- 40:14Speaker 9: and by halftime it looks like both teams are playing
- 40:16Speaker 9: Iowa football. They tend to make teams mold to their style.
- 40:19Speaker 9: Why do you think that is, and how do you
- 40:22Speaker 9: avoid becoming their personality type game?
- 40:25Speaker 7: Yeah, it's a very difficult place to play. You just see...
- 40:28Speaker 7: You know, teams who go in there. And like you said,
- 40:32Speaker 7: first off, you got just the environment in general.
- 40:34Speaker 6: It's a loud environment. So we got to be able
- 40:36Speaker 6: to handle that part of it.
- 40:37Speaker 7: But this is a big opportunity for our team, I think,
- 40:40Speaker 7: to go onto a tough road environment against a very
- 40:42Speaker 7: good team and go get a win. That certainly would
- 40:47Speaker 7: build a lot of momentum for our season as we
- 40:49Speaker 7: move forward. This is a huge week for us. Like
- 40:53Speaker 7: you said, any coach would tell you that you want
- 40:56Speaker 7: to dictate the terms in all three phases. They've historically
- 40:59Speaker 7: done a good job of that, especially at home. It's
- 41:02Speaker 7: going to be a great challenge for us. I think
- 41:04Speaker 7: that's what we all have to recognize and make sure
- 41:06Speaker 7: that we're doing that.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Why does it turn out that way? Why do you
- 41:09Speaker 1: get in there? You've seen this in basketball over the
- 41:12Speaker 1: years that you'll start Like Tennessee basketball, you'll play Tennessee
- 41:16Speaker 1: in basketball, and you're like, okay, whatever we can do,
- 41:18Speaker 1: we can't let it be a grab-hold physical game. Inevitably,
- 41:22Speaker 1: it always is.
- 41:23Speaker 6: It always is.
- 41:23Speaker 5: Well, if Iowa doesn't have success running the football and
- 41:27Speaker 5: they're not converting third downs, it's not going to matter.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Ohio State will be able to dictate everything at that point.
- 41:32Speaker 5: Hank Brown has zero turnovers this year. That cannot continue.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I thought you were about to say Hank Brown has
- 41:37Speaker 1: zero chance of winning this game.
- 41:39Speaker 5: That too, but I mean, zero turnovers. And you know
- 41:42Speaker 5: what's crazy is Iowa, in their history of all their football,
- 41:45Speaker 5: they have only, coming off the Michigan win, they've only
- 41:47Speaker 5: beaten both Michigan and Ohio State one time in the
- 41:50Speaker 5: same season in their entire history in 1962.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And the Iowa we see today, it kind of becomes
- 41:56Speaker 1: a punchline that It's been a decent program under Hayden Fry.
- 41:58Speaker 1: It's hard to believe that they've only done that once.
- 42:00Speaker 6: Yeah, it really is.
- 42:01Speaker 2: I mean, they've played in several Iron Bulls.
- 42:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, and Ference has done a great job, too.
- 42:05Speaker 6: I mean, it's not fun to watch.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Aesthetically, it's terrible. I mean, if this weren't, I could see,
- 42:10Speaker 2: no joke, Jim, if this weren't artificial turf, that they
- 42:13Speaker 2: would not have mowed the field in two weeks. I mean,
- 42:17Speaker 2: Ohio State would have to play this game in a week.
- 42:18Speaker 5: As good as that Matt Patricia defense was, and it's early,
- 42:21Speaker 5: but they're 45th against the run nationally.
- 42:23Speaker 6: That's not Ohio State defense.
- 42:26Speaker 1: How good is Kirk Ferentz?
- 42:28Speaker 6: I think he's really, really good.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Do you remember when we ranked our coaches? We did
- 42:35Speaker 2: the combo SEC Big Ten, and that was kind of
- 42:37Speaker 2: a tough one for me. I'm like, Kirk Ferentz is
- 42:40Speaker 2: probably the best coach in Iowa history, so there's that.
- 42:44Speaker 2: The record is good. He's going to a Rose Bowl,
- 42:47Speaker 2: I guess.
- 42:48Speaker 5: I mean, just looking at it, how many double-digit win
- 42:52Speaker 5: seasons do you.
- 42:53Speaker 6: Think he has?
- 42:53Speaker 1: How many has he coached? Yeah, how many has he
- 42:55Speaker 1: been there?
- 42:56Speaker 6: Since 99, so 27 years.
- 42:58Speaker 1: 27 years. I'll say he's been double-digit 21 times.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Wow, that'd be a lot. He's not coaching at Ohio State.
- 43:06Speaker 2: He's coaching at Iowa.
- 43:07Speaker 6: Six times.
- 43:08Speaker 1: He's only been 10 wins six times.
- 43:10Speaker 6: Only, though.
- 43:10Speaker 2: This is Iowa we're talking about.
- 43:12Speaker 6: Now, 2002-11, 3-10, 4-10. Then it was all the way
- 43:13Speaker 6: to 2009-11 wins.
- 43:14Speaker 4: 2015-12 wins.
- 43:14Speaker 6: They lost that Big 12 championship game to Michigan State.
- 43:16Speaker 6: 10-4 in 21 games. And 10-3 in 2019. What's his
- 43:29Speaker 6: overall Big Ten?
- 43:30Speaker 2: What are his overall records?
- 43:31Speaker 1: I just picture them all the time. 10-2, 10-2, 10-2.
- 43:34Speaker 5: He has got 225 games that he has coached in
- 43:38Speaker 5: the Big Ten.
- 43:38Speaker 2: Okay. Gosh, he's coached 225 Big Ten games?
- 43:42Speaker 6: He is the longest-tenured coach in football.
- 43:44Speaker 2: Yeah. What's his Big Ten record?
- 43:46Speaker 6: He has won 34-91.
- 43:48Speaker 2: I mean, that's really good at Iowa.
- 43:50Speaker 6: Yeah, and he is overall at Iowa 213 and 128.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Again, I always point this out. I think he got
- 43:56Speaker 1: to feast on that Big Ten West a little bit,
- 43:57Speaker 1: didn't he?
- 43:58Speaker 2: I mean, you always got.
- 43:59Speaker 1: To factor that in. That was such a bad division.
- 44:01Speaker 5: He's averaging probably just looking at this eight wins.
- 44:05Speaker 6: He's eight and four. But at Iowa.
- 44:07Speaker 2: I don't know what you expect at Iowa. I really don't.
- 44:09Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't either.
- 44:10Speaker 2: I mean, that Big Ten record at Iowa, and it's boring.
- 44:13Speaker 2: It's punchlines. I get all that. That record at Iowa,
- 44:17Speaker 2: what are you going to do better than that? Like
- 44:19Speaker 2: the next coach after him?
- 44:21Speaker 5: I don't know how he got the Iowa. Well, I
- 44:22Speaker 5: guess he was an assistant because he was a head
- 44:24Speaker 5: coach at Maine.
- 44:24Speaker 6: And listen to this. Three years, 3-8, 3-8, 6-5. It
- 44:28Speaker 6: was 12-21 at Maine. Tough job.
- 44:31Speaker 1: For me, Iowa, and this is old school memory now
- 44:35Speaker 1: because we don't even play these games on New Year's
- 44:36Speaker 1: Day anymore, but Iowa for me was a little hungover,
- 44:42Speaker 1: waking up, eating a not-healthy breakfast while I'm watching, because
- 44:47Speaker 1: I got up late, watching Iowa kick off against a
- 44:50Speaker 1: middling SEC team in what used to be the Outback Bowl,
- 44:53Speaker 1: one of those bowls that are played in the morning
- 44:56Speaker 1: on January 1st.
- 44:56Speaker 8: 10 a.m.
- 44:57Speaker 6: Yeah, Iowa, 10 a.m. game, way too early.
- 45:00Speaker 2: You know what I remember as a kid is their
- 45:02Speaker 2: end-of-the-line tight ends used to stand. Do you remember that?
- 45:04Speaker 2: They would have the end-of-the-line, the tight end.
- 45:07Speaker 6: I don't remember that.
- 45:07Speaker 2: He wasn't attached.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Yeah, the tight end used to stand up, but he
- 45:10Speaker 1: was attached to the end of the line of scrimmage.
- 45:13Speaker 2: It was a weird look. I never saw anybody else
- 45:15Speaker 2: do it. Yeah.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Innovator is what they would call it.
- 45:19Speaker 2: I guess so. I don't know.
- 45:20Speaker 1: So it's Ohio State at Iowa, one of the games.
- 45:23Speaker 1: A couple of more as we wrap up Sporting State
- 45:26Speaker 1: when we come back. This is the next round presented
- 45:28Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bets. Back with you on the next
- 45:31Speaker 1: round presented by Hard Rock Bets here on Sporting State.
- 45:34Speaker 1: About to wrap up the show with a couple of
- 45:36Speaker 1: more conversations about SEC football after Brownie tells us about
- 45:40Speaker 1: the folks at XXXY.
- 45:41Speaker 2: It is the team that launched a movement, XXXY. Jennifer Say,
- 45:46Speaker 2: national champion gymnast. She was also Levi's brand president. She
- 45:50Speaker 2: left that job rather than say something she does not
- 45:53Speaker 2: believe in. And she went on.
- 45:55Speaker 6: And started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 45:58Speaker 2: Here is their mission, and this is in their words,
- 46:00Speaker 2: empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.
- 46:04Speaker 2: For that reason, they've got this great athletic apparel. And
- 46:06Speaker 2: it's not just a slogan on a shirt. It's performance tops,
- 46:09Speaker 2: it's tanks, it's sports bras, leggings, shorts, training sets, hoodies, hats,
- 46:13Speaker 2: graphic tees, men's and women's clothing. Also, the official home
- 46:17Speaker 2: for Clay Travis' future WNBA franchise merchandise, the Nashville Balls.
- 46:21Speaker 2: You can get it right there at xx-xyathletics.com. That's xxxyathletics.com, xx-xyathletics. X,

- 46:37Speaker 2: with X, X, X, Y athletics.com.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Coming up in the first hour of the next round
- 46:44Speaker 1: part of the show, after we're done here on sport
- 46:46Speaker 1: and state, we'll get back into Alabama's defense. And if they,
- 46:49Speaker 1: if they've lived up to your expectations or not, as
- 46:53Speaker 1: they get ready for their biggest challenge of the year
- 46:56Speaker 1: on the road in Starkville tomorrow, in just about 24 hours.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Like already the team would have left Tuscaloosa for that
- 47:04Speaker 1: massive long cross-country drive to Starkville by the time we
- 47:09Speaker 1: get to this time tomorrow morning.
- 47:11Speaker 5: Do you think if we went back, I forgot who
- 47:14Speaker 5: we all had in our 12-team playoff before the season started.
- 47:16Speaker 1: I know I had Navy.
- 47:18Speaker 5: How confident would you be now that you could get
- 47:21Speaker 5: more than half the field?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Let's do that right now.
- 47:25Speaker 2: So I've seen what I've seen.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:27Speaker 1: How confident that I'm going to have to fail. So
- 47:28Speaker 1: you're September playoff bracket right now.
- 47:30Speaker 8: Yep.
- 47:31Speaker 2: All right.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Out of the Big Ten, I'll go Big Ten first.
- 47:36Speaker 1: I would go Ohio State. I would go Oregon. And
- 47:42Speaker 1: I would go Indiana. No particular order here.
- 47:44Speaker 7: Yep.
- 47:44Speaker 6: That's the three I would have.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Out of the SEC, I would go Georgia. I would
- 47:50Speaker 1: go Alabama. Alabama. I'll hold there and come back in
- 47:56Speaker 1: a second to fill in the gap.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Okay.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Not just going with two. BYU for me. Miami for me.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Notre Dame for me. No two-bid league there. So that's three, five, six, seven, eight.
- 48:10Speaker 1: So I need four more.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you need your group team.
- 48:13Speaker 1: I need a group of six. So that's Boise. That's nine.
- 48:15Speaker 1: So I need three more. Georgia, Alabama. The other three
- 48:22Speaker 1: SEC is where it's hard.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:24Speaker 6: I mean, Florida, Texas.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I mean, right now, Florida.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Texas has the best win, but they are. Can I
- 48:32Speaker 1: say this? And it's probably a bigger discussion. They are
- 48:36Speaker 1: the weakest looking number one team in the country in
- 48:39Speaker 1: the AP poll that I can remember in recent years.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I can't remember a number one team that had. that
- 48:45Speaker 1: I feel like has more flaws than Texas. I mean,
- 48:48Speaker 1: they're not the number one team, I don't believe. Now,
- 48:50Speaker 1: when you look at the resume, you could argue it.
- 48:52Speaker 1: They went to Tennessee. They beat Ohio State. But Georgia
- 48:55Speaker 1: is playing so much better football. Even if the game
- 48:57Speaker 1: was in Athens, if I said Georgia at Texas right now.
- 49:02Speaker 6: Oh, I'd be all over Georgia. And I think Texas
- 49:05Speaker 6: would be a one-and-a-half point favorite.
- 49:06Speaker 1: If Notre Dame was playing at Texas right now, I
- 49:11Speaker 1: don't know.
- 49:11Speaker 6: It gets a little different there.
- 49:12Speaker 2: I just haven't seen.
- 49:13Speaker 6: I don't know if Notre Dame can run the football.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Notre Dame get challenged.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Miami at Texas right now. Again, you're talking about two
- 49:20Speaker 1: coaches that don't handle big games. On the AP poll,
- 49:22Speaker 1: I basically went from number two at number one. You'd
- 49:25Speaker 1: be okay with Georgia.
- 49:26Speaker 5: I think this is one of those weird years. You
- 49:28Speaker 5: think about Indiana hasn't trailed. Hasn't trailed since the Big
- 49:32Speaker 5: Ten Championship. We could identify Indiana. It took a lot
- 49:35Speaker 5: of people a long time because of the brand. But
- 49:37Speaker 5: by the end of the season, you were like, That
- 49:39Speaker 5: is by far the best team. In today's college football,
- 49:42Speaker 5: it's going to be hard to have one elite team
- 49:43Speaker 5: and all the others, but through one month, I would
- 49:46Speaker 5: say Georgia's that team.
- 49:48Speaker 2: They are, but I can't say they're not challenged. They've
- 49:51Speaker 2: played Oklahoma. I mean, they had the dog shit out
- 49:55Speaker 2: of them.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Back to what we were doing here, I don't know.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Right now, Florida, yes. I don't know if Florida can
- 50:02Speaker 1: stick the landing. Texas, yes, but I don't know if
- 50:05Speaker 1: they can stick the landing. Ole Miss, to me, yes.
- 50:08Speaker 1: but I don't know if they can stick the landing.
- 50:11Speaker 1: I don't know how good LSU's quarterback is.
- 50:14Speaker 5: I think your Big 12, I know you're going to BYU,
- 50:17Speaker 5: and I would lean BYU or Utah right now, but
- 50:20Speaker 5: teams like Oklahoma State could really throw a wrench in this.
- 50:23Speaker 5: I think that Oklahoma State is that improved that in
- 50:26Speaker 5: the Big 12, they can beat anyone. The ACC gets
- 50:29Speaker 5: really interesting because I think in a one-game situation, anybody
- 50:33Speaker 5: can beat Miami, and if you get A 10-2 that
- 50:36Speaker 5: beats Miami, they're going to get in, and then the
- 50:38Speaker 5: ACC's going to have two.
- 50:39Speaker 2: We've talked about that with Miami before. If they lose
- 50:42Speaker 2: to Notre Dame and then get upset in the ACC
- 50:44Speaker 2: championship game, they got the benefit of the doubt last year,
- 50:47Speaker 2: and I think that will go against them this year.
- 50:49Speaker 1: I think Miami will get left out. If I was
- 50:52Speaker 1: on the committee, I would try really hard. I know
- 50:54Speaker 1: that your hands are tied with some automatic bids, but
- 50:57Speaker 1: I would try really hard to get the 12 best
- 50:59Speaker 1: teams in there, and I just don't think that Oklahoma
- 51:03Speaker 1: State or or Utah would have been challenged as much
- 51:06Speaker 1: as some of these other teams that play in the
- 51:10Speaker 1: Big Ten, but specifically this year's SEC.
- 51:12Speaker 5: Well, you know, just using Oklahoma State, it's far-fetched to
- 51:15Speaker 5: think in year one Eric Morris is going to get
- 51:17Speaker 5: to a college football playoff, but the Oregon win is massive.
- 51:20Speaker 2: That's a huge win because Jim had them in his playoffs,
- 51:23Speaker 2: and they probably will be there.
- 51:24Speaker 6: And think about this.
- 51:25Speaker 5: They're only going to play one more, well, two ranked teams.
- 51:28Speaker 5: They'll play Houston and Texas Tech.
- 51:29Speaker 1: The Oregon wins are relevant. They're going to have to
- 51:31Speaker 1: win the conference.
- 51:33Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I mean, the Oregon win's
- 51:35Speaker 2: irrelevant to Oklahoma State. That was a huge win. Don't
- 51:38Speaker 2: mishear me. That's a huge win for Eric Morris.
- 51:40Speaker 8: Right.
- 51:41Speaker 2: But if they do all of this and then lose
- 51:42Speaker 2: the Big 12 championship game, they're not going.
- 51:44Speaker 6: Oh, if they went 11-1 and lost the Big 12
- 51:46Speaker 6: championship game, they would go.
- 51:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 51:47Speaker 6: With the win over Oregon.
- 51:48Speaker 2: I think they have the loss to Tulsa. They got
- 51:50Speaker 2: that loss to Tulsa. And I get you. I get
- 51:52Speaker 2: you what you're saying. But it's going to be hard
- 51:55Speaker 2: to squeeze two Big 12 teams in there. How would
- 51:57Speaker 2: you do your 12 real quick? I would agree with
- 52:01Speaker 2: you on the Big 10, those three. I would go Oregon, Indiana,
- 52:05Speaker 2: Ohio State, not in any particular order. I would still
- 52:08Speaker 2: have Alabama there. I would have Georgia. I think I
- 52:13Speaker 2: would go on and throw Texas. That would be six.
- 52:16Speaker 2: I think I'm going to take Utah as seven.
- 52:18Speaker 6: So no BYU.
- 52:19Speaker 7: No BYU.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Make it two Holy Wars. Make it one for the
- 52:25Speaker 1: Big 12 championship.
- 52:26Speaker 5: I'm going to stick with North Dakota State as my
- 52:28Speaker 5: group six. ACC's got to be Miami. Notre Dame's going
- 52:33Speaker 5: to get there. I don't know how many that is.
- 52:35Speaker 1: If Boise runs the table, even though North Dakota State
- 52:39Speaker 1: runs the table.
- 52:40Speaker 6: Oh, it's Boise.
- 52:41Speaker 2: It's Boise.
- 52:42Speaker 6: Yeah. But I just believe that Boise, you know. They're
- 52:46Speaker 6: going to fall somewhere? No, I'm looking at their schedule.
- 52:49Speaker 6: I don't think they can.
- 52:49Speaker 2: So we're going to have undefeated North Dakota State. They're
- 52:51Speaker 2: going to be the ones that are. Crying the loudest. Yep.
- 52:54Speaker 6: They'll be bitching.
- 52:56Speaker 1: And that's a pretty big fan base. Brownie, real quickly,
- 52:58Speaker 1: you got yours?
- 52:59Speaker 2: I like all what you guys have done in the
- 53:01Speaker 2: Big Ten and the SEC. I think my SEC would
- 53:03Speaker 2: be Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and I'll go ahead and keep
- 53:08Speaker 2: Ole Miss in there right now. They've got Trinidad and Chambliss.
- 53:11Speaker 6: No Florida? No Florida.
- 53:13Speaker 2: No, I just think Florida's going to fall. I like
- 53:15Speaker 2: what they've done so far, but I think we're asking
- 53:17Speaker 2: a lot.
- 53:17Speaker 6: It is premature.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel we're a little premature.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Lance is hinting that on Monday we'll feel different about
- 53:22Speaker 1: Florida than we feel about Florida right now. Yeah, out
- 53:25Speaker 1: of the Big 12, I think Lance has been hinting
- 53:27Speaker 1: the same way about we'll feel different about Kentucky on
- 53:30Speaker 1: Monday than we feel about Kentucky right now.
- 53:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I would agree.
- 53:32Speaker 1: And we may feel different about Alabama on Monday than
- 53:33Speaker 1: we do right now.
- 53:34Speaker 6: But hey, think about this. If Kentucky wins, though, against
- 53:36Speaker 6: South Carolina, they host LSU next week. That becomes an
- 53:40Speaker 6: interesting game.
- 53:40Speaker 2: It absolutely does, yeah.
- 53:42Speaker 1: There's a history to when Kentucky's been good and ranked
- 53:46Speaker 1: with LSU coming to town.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Double overtime. It's a fun game.
- 53:49Speaker 1: Good thing you only count regulations.
- 53:51Speaker 2: That's right. You don't count overtime. I think Lance honestly
- 53:54Speaker 2: thought that when he said it.
- 53:55Speaker 1: We're undefeated in regulation.
- 53:57Speaker 2: Isn't that what matters?
- 53:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:58Speaker 1: Okay, we've got two more hours on the Next Round
