- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:13issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:14hypnotherapist, Demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:18royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here and welcome to today's episode of The
- 0:42Hypnotist. Unfortunately, I'm not going to
- 0:45be your hypnotist today. I'm actually blessed to have a
- 0:48guest hypnotist. Rich Guzzi, welcome to the show.
- 0:52Adam, how's it going, my man? Really good.
- 0:54Indeed, really good, so rich. You are a bit of a legend in the
- 0:58hypnosis world. But I'm curious because I don't
- 1:01actually know how you started out as a hypnotist and how you
- 1:04got to your kind of such acclaimed levels of of kind of,
- 1:09I would say status and and and kind of influence within the
- 1:12industry. So tell us, how did it all begin
- 1:14for you? I was a regular comedian first,
- 1:18so I would just do stand up comedy shows around the country.
- 1:21And I was doing OK and it wasn't, you know, it wasn't.
- 1:23I was a headliner, but not a big name.
- 1:26I'm playing this club in New Jersey and I was living on Long
- 1:31Island. So you, you leave way early.
- 1:32Of course there's a traffic situation.
- 1:34If you get there late, you know, you, you missed the gig.
- 1:36So you always leave super early. So you get there early and I
- 1:40grab something to eat before the show starts because you get
- 1:43there early a lot of times. So I'm talking with the club
- 1:46manager, this lady Sandy Depurna.
- 1:47We were friends for a long time. And she says, Rich, how you
- 1:49doing? I'm like, OK, we're just
- 1:50chatting up. She says, hey, did you hear, did
- 1:52you hear Otto and George on the Howard Stern show this morning?
- 1:55Now, Otto and George was this dirty puppet act.
- 1:57He had this. It was a really filthy puppet.
- 2:00And I did, I, I had watched, you know, listen to the show that
- 2:02morning and I said, yeah, he went out of control.
- 2:05She says, yeah, you know, Ed Rodriguez, who was the owner of
- 2:07Rascal says, yeah, I had a fire, Otto and George, because he was
- 2:11putting, you know, he was very, very racist.
- 2:13There was a racist puppet, by the way.
- 2:14It was a very racist puppet. So I got a had a fire, Otto and
- 2:17George, his managers with him, this guy Joe Miller, because I
- 2:20had to fire all Joe Miller's acts.
- 2:21So I got AI, got AI, even had a fire.
- 2:23Poor Denny Moore, the hypnotist. So I got to find another
- 2:25hypnotist, and I was just joking around.
- 2:28All I said was why? I can do the hypnotizing show
- 2:29for you. She goes, you can do the
- 2:31hypnotizing show. I said, yeah.
- 2:33I said I do the psychic guy. I can do the hypnotizing thing.
- 2:36I just do this psychic bit in my act.
- 2:37Remember John Edwards, the psychic guy where he would do
- 2:40the crossing over and talk to the dead people?
- 2:42I used to do a mock psychic bit in my comedy act.
- 2:45I said, yeah, I do the psychic thing.
- 2:46Hypnotize is the same thing. She says, OK, takes me in the
- 2:49back, opens the book up. She says there's the week.
- 2:51I said I got the week open and it pays three times the money I
- 2:54would normally make. I guess the hypnotizing guy made
- 2:56a lot of money. So I'm like, OK, I'll take the
- 2:58gig. I drove home that night back to
- 3:00Long Island saying, well, better learn how to do the hypnotizing
- 3:03show. So I knew nothing about
- 3:04hypnosis. So I, I buy this book and I'm
- 3:08reading the book and I'm like, man, this is all nonsense.
- 3:11I'm in big trouble here. You know, I'm in big trouble.
- 3:15So now I'm practicing all the stuff from the book after my
- 3:18regular comedy shows. I'm, I'm hypnotizing people at
- 3:20the bar, you know, trying to practice all this stuff.
- 3:23And I'm like, meanwhile, I have six weeks to prepare, by the
- 3:26way, and if this thing goes bad, it's going to be really bad,
- 3:29'cause it's a big venue and it's got a lot of notoriety here.
- 3:34I have to do a practice show and figure out, yes, I got to get
- 3:36all these pieces of the puzzle to work.
- 3:38So I do a practice show in a place where if it goes belly up,
- 3:41nobody's going to find out about it.
- 3:43Like, never work in Muskegon, MI ever again.
- 3:46That type of situation. So the guy ends up selling $5
- 3:50tickets for the show and there's like 300 people there.
- 3:54I do the first show and it actually worked.
- 3:56And I'm like, Oh my God, this is real.
- 3:58I actually hypnotize people. This is incredible.
- 4:00I did a second show in Altoona, PA.
- 4:03So I have two under my belt now. Rascals comes along six weeks
- 4:07later. So I'm like, OK, who shows up
- 4:09the first night? Danny Moore, the hypnotist and
- 4:11his manager. So I'm like, that's what now?
- 4:15And listen, I, I look back in retrospect, it's a smart move
- 4:18because they figure I, I stink up the stage, they save the day,
- 4:22get their gig back. It makes sense.
- 4:24So, but now I'm nervous. I'm, I'm never nervous on stage.
- 4:27But now I'm like, these guys know what they're doing.
- 4:29I don't. So I'm like, here's the plan.
- 4:31I'm still a great comedian. I'm gonna do 15 minutes of my
- 4:33best material, warm the crowd up, get them laughing hard,
- 4:37bring as many people on stage as possible to hypnotize whoever
- 4:39gets hypnotized. That's the show.
- 4:41All right, Goodness. That's exactly what I do 15
- 4:43minutes. I hit the crowd hard.
- 4:45I bring like 20 people on stage. We're all sitting all over each
- 4:48other. Four people end up getting
- 4:50hypnotized out of 20, but there were four good ones.
- 4:54It's it was a numbers game and that was enough to do the show.
- 4:57They left the middle of the show.
- 4:59They said he's got it. And my confidence grew.
- 5:04I did 7 shows that week at the at the venue.
- 5:06She hands me a check for three, $3000.
- 5:10I've never gotten paid $3000 before to do a gig.
- 5:13And I'm like, man, this is amazing.
- 5:15I just thought I went home back to Long Island on Monday.
- 5:19I go when I go to bank. I cashed a check and I'm like, I
- 5:22just figured I'd dodged a bullet.
- 5:23Like, all right, I got out of this.
- 5:25But here's the weird thing that happened.
- 5:27The phone starts ringing. Hey, man, I heard you do the
- 5:30hypnotizing show. Hey, I heard you do the
- 5:31hypnotizing. And all of a sudden I went from
- 5:33being like an older comic to being a young hypnotist and
- 5:37started getting more gigs as the hypnotizing guy, which paid a
- 5:40lot more money. And then I fell to the dark
- 5:43side. You know, why make it take, you
- 5:45know, a $500 or $1000 comedy gig when I could take a $3000
- 5:50hypnosis gig. And a year later, there was no
- 5:54comedy gigs on my schedule and only hypnosis gigs.
- 5:57And I became, you know, the hypnosis at in the comedy clubs.
- 6:01Then 2000 game along. Why 2K?
- 6:05And so the whole market's down. Then you had Y2K.
- 6:09Nobody knew who the president was. 911 have been back-to-back
- 6:12to back and the economy is in the toilet.
- 6:15So now strategic move. I went to all the comedy clubs
- 6:18and I said, hey, how about we do no guarantee and I'll take 75%
- 6:23of the door. And they all took it because
- 6:25there was no risk involved for them and they have a risk for
- 6:28another guy. And they would, you know, nobody
- 6:31showed up. They would have to pay a guy at
- 6:33$20,000 guarantee they'd get killed.
- 6:35So I said I'll take no guarantee, no guarantee whoever
- 6:37walks through the door and pays, I'll take a 75% of the gate.
- 6:40They all took it. And I cornered everybody else
- 6:43out of the market and I became the only comedian working the
- 6:46comedy clubs and that was it. The rest is history.
- 6:50It just built, built, built. And then the numbers grew
- 6:53because the show was a good show 'cause I already had the comedy
- 6:56shops. So I was a comedian doing
- 6:59hypnosis instead of a hit misses doing comedy.
- 7:02And the show really exploded. But then it went to a whole
- 7:08nother level. I'm working in El Paso, TX and
- 7:12after the show I've actually put my phone number on my website.
- 7:15I still do it. Then people say, oh man, aren't
- 7:17people like, you know, call you like crazy?
- 7:19So I said, actually, no, nobody abuses it.
- 7:20They just only call when they need you.
- 7:22This lady calls up in like a middle of the night and she
- 7:24says, I don't know what you did to my husband.
- 7:26He was on your show tonight and he came back from the war and
- 7:30he's got these night tremors stuff.
- 7:31He can't even sleep in the bed with me because he's scared he's
- 7:33going to kill me or something in the middle of the night.
- 7:35But now after your show, he's fixed.
- 7:40I, I, I got my husband back, my kids got their dad back.
- 7:44And I'm like, you got to be kidding me.
- 7:47And that happened just because I would do this good energy stuff
- 7:50at the end of the show when I took him out of hypnosis.
- 7:53And I'm like, man, people's lives are getting changed from
- 7:55this dopity comedy show I'm doing.
- 7:58So I started adding more of the self help stuff to the show,
- 8:01made it like an inspirational comedy show and bang, then
- 8:05things really took off and that was it. 300 shows a year for 30
- 8:10years in a row and I imagine. Doing that amount of hypnosis
- 8:14like your confidence must have, you know, already was high from
- 8:19being a a comedian, but just got more and more because you just
- 8:22kind of you know what to look for in terms of good subject.
- 8:25You know all the get outs if things aren't aren't going, You
- 8:28know just doing it so much must give you such resilience and
- 8:32confidence to handle anything. You know, it's, it's funny you
- 8:35say that because that's really the key to the game.
- 8:39If if you want to be good at hypnosis, that confidence level
- 8:43better be high, because a lot of hypnosis have the even even the
- 8:48clinical ones. You know, they have a client
- 8:50comes in and they, and they know how to recognize a tough client.
- 8:53They know it, you know, and all of a sudden they're like, man,
- 8:56what am I? What happens if this guy doesn't
- 8:57get deeply hypnotized? What's going to happen?
- 9:00And they had that stigma that their, their own stigma attached
- 9:03to hypnosis as well. What's going to happen now?
- 9:07And as a stage hypnotist, it's even worse, 'cause man, if that
- 9:11show goes bad, everybody's asking for their money back.
- 9:15The venue's, nobody wants to see that happen, but it happens a
- 9:19lot. And it, it you know, those
- 9:23you're spitting all the plates at the same time.
- 9:26You have to be able to think on your feet and you have to
- 9:28analyze every detail what's going on.
- 9:32I call it data mining. You're literally data mining
- 9:34from the time you walk into the building to do that show till
- 9:37the time you leave. You're always that mining for
- 9:40data. And you're looking for every
- 9:42every edge. It's like a blackjack player,
- 9:44you know, counting cards, looking for every little
- 9:46statistical edge on how the show is going to be that much better.
- 9:51And when you find something that really works, like why did that
- 9:55happen like that? And I'll go back to the video I
- 9:58always tell people, videotape every show, every session, you
- 10:01do videotape it. Because when something really
- 10:03good happens, why did that just happen?
- 10:06And let's see if we can recreate that all the time.
- 10:08And then when something bad happens, hey, we don't want that
- 10:10to happen anymore. Let's find out why it happened.
- 10:13So we make sure that doesn't happen any longer.
- 10:15You know, that's a real Mike. That's a very simple success
- 10:17formula. When something is good, keep
- 10:19doing that. When something's no good, don't
- 10:21do that no more, you know? Double down on what works and
- 10:24and mitigate the risks. And and I remember there was I
- 10:27think it was a Wimbledon where Serena Williams won every single
- 10:32match and I think she didn't even lose a set.
- 10:35And they asked her what she was going to do after winning,
- 10:37thinking like, I'll celebrate. And she said, I'm going to watch
- 10:40the videos of of every unforced error.
- 10:42You know that that's a champion mindset when you kind of always
- 10:45looking for a kind of a way to to kind of improve it.
- 10:48And that's, that's that kind of commitment and everyone's
- 10:51thinking she doesn't need to do that.
- 10:52She's already the best. But that's what keeps keep
- 10:55someone good is is kind of focusing on on on kind of how to
- 10:58get even better. Exactly.
- 11:00You know she's a champion for a reason.
- 11:02She's going to stay the champion because she's willing to outwork
- 11:05the rest of the people who are. Both are not doing it and she's
- 11:08got natural ability. And then when that natural
- 11:11ability links up with the hard work, you got a Kobe Bryant, you
- 11:14know, you got, you know, you know, Magic Johnson, you got all
- 11:17these great athletes, great performers, you know, great
- 11:21artists because they're willing to put in the effort.
- 11:24And yes, they have a God-given talent a lot of times, but a lot
- 11:27of times it's learned and procured because they have
- 11:30passion for it. So they're saying, hey, you know
- 11:32what, I'm going to go out and I'm going to do this because I
- 11:34want to do this. I want to make it happen, you
- 11:36know, so my brother is a great ballroom dancer, but he didn't
- 11:40have a natural talent for it, but he saw it and it looked
- 11:42elegant. And he said, man, I want to be
- 11:44this guy. And he became a great champion
- 11:47ballroom dancer because he put the effort in to make it happen.
- 11:50And that's what it takes. I tell people, you know,
- 11:53especially in the hypnosis community, the hypnosis world,
- 11:58if you do a a poor or fair show, it goes like this.
- 12:03After the show, Dude, I didn't want to pay you for that.
- 12:05That was ridiculous. That's, you know, all right,
- 12:08hey, here's your money. They they begrudgingly pay you,
- 12:10right? A good show.
- 12:11A good show means all right, what do I owe you, $1000?
- 12:14OK, here you go, 1000. Hey, Joe, you got those numbers
- 12:17and he's already moving on to his business.
- 12:19That's a good show. Then a great show is like, Oh my
- 12:25God, Adam, that was the most incredible thing I've ever seen.
- 12:27Man, I have to ask you, was that guy really hypnotized that big
- 12:29fat guy in the end? Yeah, it was.
- 12:31Wow, that's amazing. You know what?
- 12:32Here's your money. All right, Let's book this in
- 12:35again right away because I think this is incredible.
- 12:37That's a great show. And then there's excellence.
- 12:42Excellence goes like this. Whoa, You know what?
- 12:45Get your calendar. I want to book this in right now
- 12:47and do it 3 * a year. Do it 3 * a year.
- 12:49You like steak? You like lobster.
- 12:50Tell you. Hey, Mike, get rich and steak a
- 12:53lobster, right? Get his girlfriend too.
- 12:54Take care of that, right? All right, man, that was a mate
- 12:57and that's excellence. And that's the Serena Williams
- 13:00that we're looking for. We're looking for that
- 13:01excellence where once you do a gig, you do or you do a session
- 13:06or whatever, they they become ambassadors.
- 13:10And that's what hypnosis needs more of.
- 13:13We need ambassadors because there's still such a here we are
- 13:162025, almost the almost 2026 at this point.
- 13:20Hypnosis got this massive stigma attached to it even in very
- 13:24like, you know, outgoing States and parts of the world and
- 13:27country, you know, where people are spiritual.
- 13:30It's still got AI used to live in California, Santa Monica,
- 13:32where those people are really into it.
- 13:35And there was still a massive stigma out there.
- 13:38And hypnosis is almost like a black art.
- 13:40Nobody understands it. So we have to show excellence
- 13:45and be create ambassadors with every piece, every person we
- 13:48come in contact with to show we have the greatest product in the
- 13:51world, we have the greatest way to make people's lives better.
- 13:55And if we do that, man, we have the keys to the Kingdom.
- 13:59If this gets on the map. And that's, that's the, the
- 14:01mission of hypnosisworld.com is to put hypnosis on the map where
- 14:05when you walk down the street, every person knows what hypnosis
- 14:08is, 'cause if you go to the mall and you ask 1000 people tell me
- 14:13everything you know about a hypnosis, they don't know
- 14:14anything. There's a lot of misconceptions
- 14:17and, and, and it's weird that the misconceptions.
- 14:20Are. For for many people, the first
- 14:23thing that comes to the mind, you know, oh, it's under the
- 14:26control of someone. You know, I'm going to
- 14:28completely, you know, I'm going to be told to do something I
- 14:31don't want to do or, and, and those kind of things.
- 14:34But, but I would say and, and, and this is the thing, when I
- 14:37was training to be a hypnotherapist, my teacher said
- 14:40that stage hypnotists are not good for hypnotherapy because it
- 14:44propagates some of those misconceptions.
- 14:46But my thought was the opposite. And that is that how a lot of
- 14:50people become curious about hypnosis is because they see a
- 14:54stage show and they're like, well, if that person there that
- 14:57I know is doing those crazy things, then this is a powerful
- 15:00thing. And I want to, I want to learn
- 15:01more, more about it. What would you say to those
- 15:04people that feel that stage is is kind of like bad for
- 15:09hypnotherapy? Yeah, I know.
- 15:12I've heard the same thing, you know, and that's a real shame.
- 15:16You know, there was for 75 years, organizations would hold
- 15:22the hypnosis industry back. You know, it was the good old
- 15:25boy club and stage hypnosis was like, they would like the
- 15:29heretic because they wanted to keep control of the masses and
- 15:34say, hey, no, no, no, we're gonna do it like this.
- 15:37But meanwhile, and again, I don't like a bad stage station
- 15:40also show either I because I think it hurts the industry as
- 15:43well. But when done properly, it
- 15:47really is the first line of what the general public at large sees
- 15:54because it's non threatening. So hey, let me hypnotize you to
- 15:58quit smoking or lose weight. Oh, man, I don't know, man.
- 16:02Giving him control on my mind. Yeah, all the stigmas attached.
- 16:06Hey, let's go to a hypnosis show.
- 16:07You see, you're gonna see Joe on stage do some wacky stuff.
- 16:09All right, so you get introduced because, hey, let's have some
- 16:12fun. But for me, it's all about the
- 16:15transformation. When I watch the audience shift.
- 16:20And it happens usually about 1/3 of the way through the show
- 16:25because I'm adding little interjections throughout the
- 16:27entire show that are proving to the audience that this is
- 16:30something real that you can make your life better with.
- 16:34And you can see them like this. Wait a minute, You see what he's
- 16:37doing there? Wow, this is, this is
- 16:40interesting because now, like I said, they were scared on a
- 16:44roller coaster. And there's, there's people that
- 16:47they're terrified that after that bid is over, you are so
- 16:51brave to go on that ride. Remember, every time you conquer
- 16:53a fear in your life, it becomes stronger in every other area of
- 16:55your life. Today you conquered a huge feed,
- 16:57became stronger and stronger. Your life becomes better and
- 16:58better. A good job deep asleep and the
- 17:00audience is like, whoa, you see what just happened there?
- 17:05Powerful suggestion it was. And, and, and they have now been
- 17:08transformed into men. Hypnosis is actually something
- 17:11that we could use to make our life better here.
- 17:13This is pretty interesting. And by the end of the show, a
- 17:17good hypnosis show should have transported that audience to the
- 17:21point where they're like, wow, I'm going to start using this in
- 17:25my everyday life now. All right.
- 17:27This was more than Funny Games. Yeah, I had a great time.
- 17:29Yeah. I mean, Mike, man, you did some
- 17:31funny stuff. That was you remembering this?
- 17:33I don't remember any of it. Fantastic.
- 17:34You had a great time. But now let's make our life
- 17:38better. And every single person on the
- 17:40planet needs a hypnotist. Everybody.
- 17:42There's there's not one person who doesn't.
- 17:44So if the world was known to this stuff, they.
- 17:48They understood it. Bang.
- 17:50Everybody be using it. So when somebody says that yes,
- 17:53stage hypnosis is bad, yeah, you know what in the wrong hands it
- 17:57is bad, but in the right hands, when taught properly, if, and
- 18:02I'm not saying every clinical hypnotist should do a show.
- 18:05However let's say you did one hypnodemo show type situation,
- 18:13AI can guarantee without a shadow, without your skill level
- 18:15as a hypnotist will go up dramatically.
- 18:18That's not even a question because you will be under fire
- 18:23to make sure that this happens. Probably this.
- 18:25You're going to get these subjects deep.
- 18:27Otherwise you're going to look like a dummy because the
- 18:29audience, I always tell people, the audience does the work for
- 18:31you. There's 10 people on the stage.
- 18:34If there's one person who's not a six or less, you know, on the,
- 18:38on the SDL scale, 6 is like you can hallucinate negative.
- 18:42My total hypnosis, his level's below 6.
- 18:45I fractured the subjects. They're actually below that.
- 18:48You could tell them anything and they're going to follow the
- 18:49directions. But if you have a four or five
- 18:52on the stage, the audience is like this.
- 18:53That guy's faking that guy. And as a professional hypnotist,
- 18:56we know he's really hypnotized, but he's not good enough for a
- 18:59show. And the same exact thing with
- 19:02hypnosis in the clinical setting.
- 19:05If you have a subject who's a three or 453 or 4IN that area,
- 19:09right, that I call it limbo land, Yeah.
- 19:12Hypnotize. Yeah.
- 19:13And can you get the work done? Absolutely.
- 19:15But a lot of times that subject goes home and says, man, that
- 19:19hypnosis was a crock. You know what?
- 19:21I just, I went to the gym myself.
- 19:23I just went to the start of eating the right foods.
- 19:25I lost the weight on my own. Meanwhile, we know that's not
- 19:27what happened. The hypnotist actually did his
- 19:29job or her job, but the subject doesn't believe it.
- 19:34But they were three O 4 in that area where if they were a 5 or 6
- 19:39or below, when they wake up, they're like this.
- 19:43You have the tingling hands and the feet.
- 19:44They're like, oh man, what just happened?
- 19:46You know what happened? And you show them a video of
- 19:48them laughing out, laughing uncontrollably.
- 19:50They don't remember it and like, oh man, that's me.
- 19:53Holy men. Wow.
- 19:55And all of a sudden now they were really out.
- 19:57Now you have the magic, you have the what I call the wow factor.
- 20:01And that's what the that's what the general public in the
- 20:03beginning needs. You need wow factor.
- 20:06So if you do a show. Not even a full blown show, but
- 20:12you do some type of performance demonstration of hypnosis, your
- 20:17skill level will will rise. B.
- 20:20What about the promotional aspect of it?
- 20:23You know, people say, well man, how do you make so much money in
- 20:25this business? I can tell you it's because I
- 20:27did 10,000 shows. I, I hypnotized over 1,000,000
- 20:29people and those people were experiencing what I did.
- 20:36And that's advertising. When you do a show, that's
- 20:40hypnosis advertising. And if you do a show even once a
- 20:46month, that's, that's, you're getting paid to advertise at
- 20:49this point now. So it's a good thing, but only
- 20:55done properly. So if yes, if you want to do a
- 20:57stage show, you want to do a stage performance, you want to
- 20:59do a clinical. I, I, I like, I call them a
- 21:01corporate, corporate presentations and stuff.
- 21:05Those, all those, all the performances, That's what in my
- 21:07book is performing hypnosis because you're performing for
- 21:11either one person in the clinical setting or 1000 people
- 21:14on a cruise ship, right? It's still a performance.
- 21:17And that performance level that you can put out there is going
- 21:21to make all the difference in the wow factor.
- 21:23Because again, right now, until hypnosis gets put on the map
- 21:27where everybody understands it, you got to give them the
- 21:29zombies. That's what they see on TV in
- 21:31the movies. You've got to give them the wow.
- 21:33And what then? When that wow happens, though?
- 21:36You now have excellence and now you have word of mouth.
- 21:39You have everything you want. You have the hypnosis
- 21:42ambassadors. So yeah.
- 21:44Because the hypnosis experience itself becomes the convincer as
- 21:47to how powerful it is because they're either experiencing it
- 21:50or they're or they're witnessing it and.
- 21:52And I've always thought that a great stage hypnotist can make
- 21:55the transition to hypnotherapy much easier than a
- 21:58hypnotherapist becoming a stage hypnotist because as you said,
- 22:02there's lots more moving parts you have to kind of deliver, you
- 22:05know, and, and all of those things.
- 22:07Whereas A hypnotherapist, if they've got that person in the
- 22:10room and it's not, not really a deep experience, then they, they
- 22:14can just say, oh, but you know, that it's, it was still
- 22:16hypnosis. But all our eyes are on you on
- 22:19the, on the, on the, the, the stage.
- 22:21And I, I found that when it was similar to you in the sense that
- 22:24I, I volunteered for something without the actual skill set.
- 22:27So there was a lady I met who had, she wanted this kind of
- 22:31phobia core, she wanted a hypnotist to come along and, and
- 22:35cure arachnophobes in, in a, in a single session.
- 22:37And I said, I'll do that. Never, never did one phobia
- 22:40client at all. So there I'm on my first day and
- 22:43there's like a room full of 20 people, lifelong arachnophobes,
- 22:46terrified. And then at the end they're
- 22:47holding like tarantulas and spiders and all that kind of
- 22:50stuff. But the confidence it gives you
- 22:51working with a room and actually seeing the results in real time,
- 22:55you can't get that if you're just one-on-one with the therapy
- 22:58clients. You, you, you.
- 23:00It's almost like training at altitude.
- 23:01And when you go back to 1 to one clients, you feel like a almost
- 23:06enhanced skill. You feel like a superpower.
- 23:08Yeah, there's no question about it.
- 23:10You know, it's, it's funny you say that because what you know,
- 23:13you're, and again, that's why you're, you're successful.
- 23:16You know, you, you put yourself into the game and you don't even
- 23:22know how to play the game yet. You're like, OK, but I'm going
- 23:24to do this now and you'll, I'll figure it out.
- 23:27I'll. Figure it out.
- 23:27That's the. Thing and and and that's what
- 23:29makes you strong 'cause you'll figure it out and successful
- 23:33people rise to the occasion. You know, when when the going
- 23:36gets tough, the tough get going. OK, let's go.
- 23:38Let's let's get let's get to work here.
- 23:41And then the the great thing is once you learn specific
- 23:45techniques on how to do the group setting it actually
- 23:51becomes easier. I would much rather do a group
- 23:54setting of of subjects then if you had to hypnotize one tough
- 24:00subject. Bam bam.
- 24:03So one tough subject requires you to be on your game big time.
- 24:08So unless you have one plus you know you have the bell curve,
- 24:10right? So there's 100 people in the
- 24:12room, 10 are really good, 10 stink, and then ten are really
- 24:16close. 10 are all the clothes on this side.
- 24:18So let's say you get one of those guys who was really tough
- 24:20to rock and he's just one-on-one.
- 24:25You got to be on your game big time.
- 24:28But let's say I had this rock, but he's with five other people
- 24:32who are just saying neutral. I can get the rock a lot easier
- 24:38because I could transfer energy from the regular ones to him and
- 24:42get them, get them out right. So I'll pick off the wounded
- 24:46wildebeest first and then start moving on.
- 24:50Then once they see what's happening, like, oh, wait, look
- 24:52at the way that guy went out. It was like, bang, you get him
- 24:54too. So it's way easier when in the
- 24:57group setting. Once you once you understand the
- 24:59skill sets that that are are needed that one-on-one.
- 25:02There's much more. It's the.
- 25:03Hardest thing in hypnosis? Yeah, 'cause there's much more
- 25:06kind of psychological principles than just hypnosis, 'cause
- 25:08you've got expectations, social proof, compliance, you know,
- 25:13the, the egos, they want to have a good time.
- 25:15They don't want to, they don't want to be the one that kind of
- 25:17gets funneled off the stage. So you've got many different
- 25:19kind of psychological levers that you can kind of utilize to
- 25:22kind of get the most in. You must feel like a, like a
- 25:25conductor in an orchestra. You know, you've got the you've
- 25:28got the, the kind of the musicians and your job is to
- 25:30kind of get the most out of those, you know, on the on the
- 25:32stage. It's.
- 25:33You know, as I use the exact same thing, you're, you're the
- 25:35conductor. It's, it's very interesting you
- 25:37say that cause yeah, very astute 'cause that's exactly what it
- 25:40is. You're a conductor of the
- 25:41Symphony. These all the members in the
- 25:43band and I got to get the band playing beautiful music.
- 25:46This is, this is the group that I was that I was given today.
- 25:49There's 102 hundred, 300 people in the audience.
- 25:51This is the group I was given. I have to turn that group into
- 25:54magnificence. So you're putting on a
- 25:59conference close to Chicago mid America conference, October the
- 26:0516th. I think it starts 17th.
- 26:08Tell us, tell us why, because you've you've achieved a lot in
- 26:11lots of different areas. Why take on a conference and why
- 26:14you know, because there's lots, again, lots of moving parts in
- 26:16organizing a conference. What what led you to kind of
- 26:19take on this? Well, my, my buddy Richard
- 26:22Nongard had had this conference and it was dying on the vine.
- 26:29And he said you want, you want to take this thing over.
- 26:32So I said, I'm going to take this thing over because this
- 26:36shouldn't go away. It's been here for 40 years and
- 26:39there's a lot of good people attached to this thing.
- 26:42And I don't, I don't want to see this go away.
- 26:44You know, we, we need good people out there, you know.
- 26:50So I said this is also a way for hypnosis world to really get
- 26:54more of the word out 'cause now I'll have control and do the way
- 26:57I want to do it 'cause I've seen all the conferences and I said,
- 27:00see what they do right? I see what they do wrong.
- 27:03And I'm like, I have some new ideas for this.
- 27:05So that's what we did. We took it and we said, all
- 27:08right, let's, what do we, what do we got to do to make this
- 27:11thing really amazing? So I said first and foremost, we
- 27:14need some big headliners. So that's what I did.
- 27:19I said, you know, listen, there's always great speakers
- 27:21and, and, and coaches and trainers, practitioners at the
- 27:24conferences, but I wanted to go above and beyond that.
- 27:26I said I wanted to get like real heavy hitters that would
- 27:29normally never be in a conference.
- 27:31So that was step #1 So we did, we did, we accomplished that.
- 27:35Then I said go in it, you know, like hypnosis conference, almost
- 27:40like summer camp for hypnotists. You know, people like to see the
- 27:43people they don't get to see all, all the time.
- 27:45So it's got to be fun too. I want people to learn, but it's
- 27:49got to be fun and 'cause I like to have fun.
- 27:52It's, it's all about, you know, the, the experience.
- 27:55They're having a good time. So I took some of the stuff from
- 27:58the say the comedy hypnosis show and putting on events like that
- 28:03and added it to our conference and we have a game show.
- 28:06We have we have a hypnosis game show on Friday night and all the
- 28:09questions are hypnosis esteemed and they're loaded obviously,
- 28:12because I wrote them as a like a comedian, I wrote them.
- 28:14It's like when you give the answers, they're going to be
- 28:16like, you know, kind of funny and tricky, obviously sometimes
- 28:19very naughty actually. But we do that on Friday, you
- 28:23know, on on Saturday we have the giant gala and we have like, you
- 28:28know, sitting with the stars, you know, because we have all
- 28:31the dignitaries are going to be there.
- 28:32And now we have a basically a red carpet event.
- 28:37So it's, it's going to be just like if you went to the Academy
- 28:39Awards, it'd be just like that. You know, we want to have that
- 28:42level of enthusiasm. We have a photo booth.
- 28:46You take photos with the stars. It's we have somebody taking
- 28:49head shots, you know, 'cause people, you know, want to have
- 28:51professional shots done for their website or for their
- 28:54promotional materials. We got that coming in.
- 28:57We're shooting a movie documentary, you know, all about
- 29:00the past, present and future of hypnosis.
- 29:02We want to make, we want to blow this thing up.
- 29:03And then we close it all out on Sunday where all the attendees
- 29:11are in one giant room. So we open the conference that
- 29:14way where everybody's focusing on one vet.
- 29:19And here's where the conference we have set the stage.
- 29:21Then we do the breakout rooms, all the different trainers.
- 29:24And then at the end we have the big guns coming out one 2-3 at
- 29:28the end of the at the end of the event.
- 29:30And then we have a pool party after that.
- 29:32So, and we have giant and giant prizes.
- 29:36You know, I said, you know what, yes, people give away books and
- 29:39a couple little doodads. I want to go above and beyond
- 29:42that too. Let's give away, let's give away
- 29:43real prizes. So I got a $25,000 prize and I
- 29:46got a $10,000 prize that we could be given away at the pool
- 29:50party to give an incentive to stay to the end.
- 29:52A lot of times you go to conference at the end, half the
- 29:56people are gone. Kind of dwindles.
- 29:58It dwindles down and I'm like, this is no good.
- 30:01I want to make sure that this is an event that people are going
- 30:03to stay all the way through and hypnosis is near and dear to my
- 30:08heart. It, it really is.
- 30:09I mean, if I'm, you know, 30 plus years doing this, I have 0
- 30:13regrets because it's, it's changed my life in a good way.
- 30:17I know I've changed millions of other lives out there, people
- 30:20who've witnessed what we've done.
- 30:22Now Hypnosis World is going to be the catalyst to get the
- 30:26younger practitioners and the older practitioners as well, but
- 30:30you know, to bring this forward now for the next century, for
- 30:33the next 100 years, you know, and this conference builds upon
- 30:38that. So every year we have an event
- 30:41that all the people from Hypnosis World can go to and
- 30:44meet and share our stories, share our knowledge.
- 30:49And it, it kind of adds that extra component to the puzzle
- 30:53that makes, that puts, that puts hypnosis on the map.
- 30:56And I specifically went after a lot of new practitioners because
- 31:01I want to get them trained up properly by mingling with the
- 31:05bigger people saying here's the way to do professional hypnosis.
- 31:09Here's the way how to really accelerate your practice.
- 31:13Don't believe the stuff you've been told, you know, from the
- 31:17old, the old groups, don't believe any of that stuff.
- 31:20You can go out and you can have fun and you can help people.
- 31:25And it's not a sin to get paid for your work.
- 31:28A lot of people feel guilty about being paid to do hypnosis
- 31:33on people and that hurts the business because if you can't
- 31:38collect money for your, your skills and talents, you're,
- 31:41you're, you're creating a lesser impact.
- 31:44I tell people money is an impact tool.
- 31:47You can create a larger impact when you have funds to get the,
- 31:51get the awareness out there for yourself.
- 31:53Hey, I can help people do this, that and the other thing.
- 31:55Here's how we can do it. And you got the funding now to
- 31:58make that happen. So don't feel guilty but getting
- 32:01paid to do something. You're right, a lot of
- 32:03hypnotherapists do feel guilty. And my, my belief is the, you
- 32:06know, how much money you make is a reflection of the value you
- 32:08create for the world. So if you're creating a lot of
- 32:11value for the world, money's just a side effect of that.
- 32:13Doesn't mean you're greedy, doesn't mean you're, you know
- 32:15anything. It's just means you're doing
- 32:16something right. It really is, you know, so this,
- 32:19this conference was the last component that we needed to add
- 32:24that piece of the puzzle. So as we wanted, you know, I
- 32:28have a lot of people in my my regular elite family.
- 32:30I call it, I call it the family. You know, my e-mail address is
- 32:33thefamily@richguzzy.com. You know, it's kind of like I'm
- 32:35like Don Corleone, I'm that guy. But I treat everybody like my
- 32:40family members. So we have a lot of elite
- 32:42members and those elite members want to have a place where we
- 32:47can all get together at one time.
- 32:51And that is again that we're doing that.
- 32:53Actually we do it every Monday after after a conference.
- 32:56All our elite members always meet on the Monday.
- 32:58I take everybody out for dinner. We have the big family dinner
- 33:01and it's a great, it's a great time.
- 33:04So this conference actually gives us the ability to do that
- 33:08even more and meet on a regular basis at least once a year.
- 33:12We're definitely all getting together.
- 33:13So that's. That's you mentioned those two
- 33:18heavy hitters that you've got at the conference and, and Richard
- 33:21Bandler was one of my inspirations for becoming a
- 33:23hypnotist. I think he's a bit crazy, a bit
- 33:26of a maverick, but an absolute genius.
- 33:27You know, such a such a, you know, I, I, I do talks on nested
- 33:31loops for for me, he's the, the expert on nested loops, such a
- 33:35such a master. And you've got Chase Hughes as
- 33:37well. Tell us a little bit about what
- 33:38they're going to be doing at at the conference.
- 33:41So when I first thought about the heavy hitters, I said, I got
- 33:46to get headliners here. I got to get big names.
- 33:50And again, not taking away from the other practitioners because
- 33:52they're all amazing, but we needed to get those headline
- 33:55names and what people said, Oh my God, wait a minute, Richard
- 33:58Bandler is coming. And I, I, I really literally
- 34:01went down the list and top of my list was I said, wait a minute,
- 34:04Richard Bandler. That's the guy I got to get.
- 34:06I got to, I got to get Richard Bandler.
- 34:08And man, it took three months to get him it.
- 34:11It wasn't easy. I was like, man, make a phone
- 34:14call, hey man, wait to come to the conference.
- 34:16It wasn't, it wasn't like that at all.
- 34:17It took three months to make it happen.
- 34:19We made it happen. His people are awesome and he's
- 34:22awesome. So when we closed the deal, he
- 34:27said I'm doing an event in Orlando.
- 34:31Why don't you come hang out for free?
- 34:33We get to hang out and talk a little bit, get kind of break
- 34:36the ice and get the ball rolling.
- 34:38So I mean, I've been free Richard Bandler training.
- 34:40Of course I'm going all right. It was all week and I went.
- 34:45Now again, I've been doing this a long time and I feel I'm a I'm
- 34:49a great hypnotist, you know, especially when it comes to one
- 34:52on ones, right in even like any scenario I can knock people out.
- 34:58So, and I always thought that NLP was all right, it's OK, but
- 35:04you know what, you do that to a sophisticated individual, it's
- 35:07not going to work all that good. But then all of a sudden I saw
- 35:12this guy, I went to Richard Bandler's training and I'm like,
- 35:15wait a minute, this isn't even the same product.
- 35:19This isn't what other people teaching at all.
- 35:22This is so far above and beyond what what I thought NLP was,
- 35:28'cause I saw him do things that were off the charts amazing that
- 35:32were blowing me away. So I do an energy transfer
- 35:36technique. I show people how you can do
- 35:37digital downloads on people and you know, and this guy's doing
- 35:41it to the 10th power. It's what I saw.
- 35:46It was like, no, short of wizardry, like Harry Potter's
- 35:48got nothing on this guy. It was incredible.
- 35:51And I'm like, man, this is incredible.
- 35:54We got this man, the Co creator of NLP, but the guy at our
- 36:00conference with this level of skill, this needs to be out
- 36:04there. This skill needs to be shown to
- 36:08other practitioners. And what you.
- 36:11I'm telling you, if you've never seen this before, you have to
- 36:13see this because I was blown away.
- 36:16And I'm. Listen, I'm a New Yorker.
- 36:18I'm. We're skeptical people, you
- 36:20know, we're always like this, you know, all this.
- 36:22All New Yorkers descend to the pigeons.
- 36:24OK. You know that guy?
- 36:25Yeah, I know that guy. Yeah.
- 36:27So. But when I saw this, this needs
- 36:31to be out there. This training needs to be out
- 36:33there. So thank God we got him.
- 36:37Now. Chase is my buddy.
- 36:39I remember Chase when he was. He came to my comedy show in
- 36:42Virginia Beach. It was interesting because his
- 36:45first date with his now wife was my comedy show, was my show.
- 36:50And there was something about him.
- 36:52He has me his card and, and people hand me cards every day
- 36:55in the comedy club. But this guy was something
- 36:59special. And I, I actually called the
- 37:02card. I call, I called them and we
- 37:04started chatting on the phone and I'm like, this guy is going
- 37:07to be somebody for sure. He was still in the Navy at the
- 37:09time. And I said I'm, you know, and
- 37:12he's then we became we became friends immediately.
- 37:16He sent me a copy of his book, the ellipsis manual, the
- 37:18original book. And it was interesting when I
- 37:21read the book, I'm like, this is the exact material I was going
- 37:23to write myself. I was going to write this exact
- 37:25book, but I was going to do a funny version of it, a comedy
- 37:29version of it. And I'm like, thank God I didn't
- 37:31because it would have been nothing to pick.
- 37:33This is the right way. It should have been written
- 37:36exact material, but done the proper way where I would have
- 37:42joked it up a little bit too much and it wouldn't have been
- 37:45the same, wouldn't have been as good.
- 37:47So thank God, I I like I I saw that.
- 37:49I read the book. And then he says, what am I
- 37:52gonna do? I forget of the Navy.
- 37:53I says, I I got you. Don't worry about it.
- 37:55And then we started doing trainings together and next
- 37:58thing you know meant Chase blew up.
- 38:00You know, he's huge because he's got he's got it.
- 38:03He's got what it takes. He's got all, he's got
- 38:05knowledge, he's got the look, he's got the determination, he's
- 38:09got the work ethic and he's got the pedigree.
- 38:12So there's nothing he does not have.
- 38:14And that's why again, he's he's a a a big star as well.
- 38:17So again, that was an easy one. I made the phone call.
- 38:21Chase, do me a favor, come to come to my event.
- 38:23I want to blow this up. He goes, he has no problem and
- 38:26he's actually making a tough flight.
- 38:28He's flying from Hawaii to come, you know, to come to the event.
- 38:31He's making the effort, but he's a top notch guy.
- 38:34You know, I've had some celebrity friends in the past
- 38:38and Anthony became really big. They changed their phone number.
- 38:42You never hear from ever again. And this guy is not that.
- 38:46This guy is a true friend and he has been my buddy from start to
- 38:51finish. And he, he literally will give
- 38:54me the shirt off his back. That's how good of a friend this
- 38:56guy is. As no matter how big he gets, if
- 38:59I, if I call him on the phone, he's answering the phone.
- 39:02If I need something, he'll call. He'll, he'll call me back.
- 39:04And that's a real friend. Yeah, because he doesn't need
- 39:07anything for me anymore. He's huge.
- 39:11He's still my friend. So that's the mark right there.
- 39:14He's he's really, he's top flight and the, and the material
- 39:17he's got is off the charts as well.
- 39:19The stuff he can train, train you is like, again, it's it's
- 39:23masterful. You know the the materials that
- 39:26he has are about human excellence and how to persuade
- 39:31an influence and be that person of influence yourself.
- 39:34Is is bar none amongst the best I've ever seen.
- 39:37No, I've, I've, I've seen Richard Bandler several times
- 39:39and Chase Hughes once before and they're, they're both, you know,
- 39:42some of the, some of the best, you know, out there.
- 39:44So you've got some excellent headliners there and it seems
- 39:48like you've got loads of like fun activities going on as well.
- 39:51So if people are curious about this, because I appreciate it's
- 39:53only about kind of four weeks away, where can people go?
- 39:57And I'll make sure I put a link in the show notes so people can
- 40:00actually kind of click that. But if there is there a website
- 40:02for them to go to to find out more information?
- 40:05Yes, it's hypnosis conference.org,
- 40:10hypnosisconference.org. Easiest way to get there.
- 40:13You click on it and it's got every detail of what's going on
- 40:18and then some. We got a crazy deal on the
- 40:21hotel, the official hotel that we're we're all going to be
- 40:24staying at. I, I basically bought out the
- 40:25entire hotel. I said we're going to take over
- 40:28the entire, the entire building. We're taking over all the
- 40:31restaurants. We take it, we're taking over
- 40:32the whole day. It's going to be our party and
- 40:36hypnosisworld.com, you know, my, my hypnosis website has
- 40:40everything on there as well. So you go to hypnosisworld.com
- 40:43or hypnosisconference.org. You'll get everything you need.
- 40:47And it's got it's yeah, this will be the event of the
- 40:49century. We're we're pulling all the
- 40:51stops out. Amazing.
- 40:53And I'm not quite as high profile as Richard Banner and
- 40:56Chase Hughes or yourself, but I will be there as well.
- 40:58So if you listen. You know, you, you, you, let me
- 41:01tell you something, you were a great guy.
- 41:03You know, again, not putting anything past all the other
- 41:07presenters was we have 100 additional amazing presenters
- 41:11and there's no stiffs in the lineup.
- 41:13I went down that line and curated that entire thing
- 41:15myself. And my girlfriend is a real
- 41:18stickler when it comes to this stuff.
- 41:20She doesn't want any stiffs. So yes, you, you were, you were,
- 41:25you were a great get. You know when waste waste said,
- 41:27wait a minute, this guy, this guy applied.
- 41:29Yeah, Oh man, you got to have him that, but make sure he make
- 41:32sure. He Claudia, Claudia nudged me to
- 41:34do it. You know Claudia Ricard, she me
- 41:36to kind of apply. I love her.
- 41:38She's one of my black belts. Yeah, she's one of the black
- 41:40belts in our in our elite family.
- 41:43Yeah, no, she's she's she's amazing.
- 41:44So the the website will be in the show notes.
- 41:48Check that out. If you're listening or watching
- 41:49on YouTube, I'm going to be there.
- 41:52Richard Bannon's going to be there.
- 41:53Rich Goose is going to be there, Chase Hughes and and lots of
- 41:55other people as well. It's going to be a really fun
- 41:56time. So check that out.
- 41:58Rich, thank you so much for being a guest hypnotist today.
- 42:02Adam, you are top notch again. That's that's why you deserve
- 42:05everything you get because you, you do a top notch job.
- 42:08You look the part you, you feel the part you, you're helping
- 42:11people. That's all that matters, man.
- 42:13Just put it out there, you know, show excellence every day.
- 42:16Thank you so much for joining me on today's episode of The
- 42:20Hypnotist. And if you've enjoyed this show
- 42:23or got some benefit from it, you may know of one other friend or
- 42:29family member that may also benefit from this hypnosis
- 42:33session. In which case I'd like to ask a
- 42:35favour of you. And that is if you could spend
- 42:3810 seconds to share this episode with someone that you know that
- 42:43may also benefit, that would really help me to access new
- 42:47people that don't already know about this show.
- 42:51Thank you very much for listening and I will see you
- 42:53again on the next episode.
