- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:04things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:09Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:16Welcome back to the three OT person by Sea Kick.
- 0:18This is episode 451. I'll be your host, Kyle Korne.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. We are back, we are back.
- 0:30We are back. I'm energized.
- 0:31I'm just now realizing my mic is really low but I don't.
- 0:36Yeah, 'cause we were super laid back for the Home Run Derby live
- 0:42stream watch party. Yeah, shout out for those who
- 0:44joined. That was that was fun.
- 0:46That was fun, this is our first time getting together since
- 0:49then. We didn't do anything post All
- 0:51Star game. Yeah.
- 0:52So this is yeah, I guess technically this is post All
- 0:56Star game, but you know what I mean?
- 0:57We didn't do anything right after the fact.
- 0:58Took a little bit of a break, but yeah.
- 1:01That live stream was fun, man. Gave away some, gave away some
- 1:04cash, hung out with the with the folks, gave away some, gave away
- 1:07a jersey, gave away some pizza, gave away a hat and just watched
- 1:12a lot, a lot of home runs. Yeah, how are you?
- 1:18How quick? Like, I don't know.
- 1:20Recap. Not recap, but maybe like a
- 1:23quick reaction on the whole week on Derby, All Star game, how it
- 1:32was done, broadcast, what you liked, what you did, like
- 1:35anything. Anything to report.
- 1:37Can I just say 2 words? Sure.
- 1:44Chandran. Sure, that's fair.
- 1:47You're allowed to. You're allowed to say that.
- 1:49I I mean, they don't, they don't give that award to schmucks.
- 1:57And I got I got criticized and I'm still in passing getting
- 2:02criticized criticizing you, still getting criticized for my
- 2:06comments on Ryan Ripken and and company's stream about Jaron
- 2:11Duran. Who's criticizing you?
- 2:13Just everybody is this manufactured?
- 2:16Just everybody. You're an idiot.
- 2:19There's no manufactured hate. Nobody wanted to listen to me.
- 2:23I said, I said, forget about Shohei Otani.
- 2:26Jaron Duran's the face of baseball.
- 2:28And people are like, whoa, man. So yeah, Jane Duran's face.
- 2:32Baseball. Boys popping off.
- 2:36I did see like a like a TikTok that was like a like a revenge
- 2:43low light reel of like some of the mistakes he made a few years
- 2:47ago. Like specifically that home that
- 2:49like inside the park home run that went over his head.
- 2:55Homies homies picked it up man. Added a couple of tattoos to the
- 2:58sleeve. Could have put a couple of L BS
- 3:00on. Yeah, he's good, he's good.
- 3:05No, there's not much I can say there.
- 3:08Then he ran into one. Oh, yeah.
- 3:12Oh, yeah, that well, that's why he got the award that he got.
- 3:15He stepped up when his team, when the league needed him.
- 3:19Which, by the way, that makes it for those for those keeping
- 3:25track at home, that's ten out of the last ten of the last 11 All
- 3:29Star games for the American League.
- 3:31Yeah. And then I think I somebody was
- 3:34like, that's just the last 11. Go back to 1988, I said.
- 3:38The American League is 28 and seven since 1988.
- 3:45I think we're hearing rumblings of transitioning away from from
- 3:51the uniforms. Yes, I think someone's
- 3:55listening. Seems like an easy win for Major
- 3:58League Baseball. No, like I feel like people have
- 4:00been talking about this for long enough.
- 4:01People have been fed up with the jerseys long enough where it's
- 4:04like, can we just go back to it? This isn't like an old head
- 4:09versus new age conversation. This is just something that I
- 4:11think a lot of people want. I will, I will safely.
- 4:14I, I don't like throwing around the word majority a lot, but I
- 4:18feel like I'm I'm safe and sane that the majority want to go
- 4:22back to just guys having their own teams uniforms, that it's
- 4:25that simple. Yeah.
- 4:28But I, I like it. I think it's, I think it's might
- 4:31happen. There might be a little
- 4:33something there. Your quick thoughts on and we
- 4:37don't have to belabor the the All Star game necessarily.
- 4:39I know it's been a minute now so we can talk about current
- 4:42events, but your quick thoughts on Paul Schemes and Aaron Judge
- 4:47almost not happening. My quick thought First off, Jeff
- 4:51Passan pissed a lot of people off because the Sodo at bat, he
- 4:56had tweeted out judge Skeens. It's happening now.
- 4:59Obviously he's at the ballpark and everyone on Twitter is like,
- 5:03bro, we're still halfway through this Sodo at bat.
- 5:05Like did you have like, can we remember that a little bit?
- 5:11So it kind of spoiled that in in my mind and I I knew that was
- 5:15going to be a good ABI knew it was going to be a walk, but I
- 5:19knew it was going to be a good AB.
- 5:21So props to props to Soto for making that happen.
- 5:25But yeah, I'm a little bummed with I I would have liked for
- 5:30Judge to milk that out a little bit and just seen one like let
- 5:34one go by, give us a few seconds.
- 5:36It was over before people even knew what was happening.
- 5:42But it's, I mean like pull and roll over.
- 5:46I think it was 100 or 101 fastball up.
- 5:49It was kind of crazy. I just don't know why Bruce
- 5:54Bochy went with the lineup that he did.
- 5:55I feel like we had it pretty much laid out there.
- 5:58Gunner Soto judge. Why Quan?
- 6:02Congrats, man, That's a that's a big time honor to make it to the
- 6:06All Star game. Your starter.
- 6:07But like Gunner Soto judge, that was the that was an easy, easy
- 6:14recipe right there, just right in front of you.
- 6:16Anyway, that's all I had to say on that.
- 6:18It's an oversight by Boch, not too many of those in his career.
- 6:23Yeah, I had to watch majority of the game on mute so I wasn't
- 6:27able to catch much of the the in game stuff because as I
- 6:30mentioned on the Home Run Derby live stream, which again, shout
- 6:33out to those of you who joined us.
- 6:34That was a great time. Hopefully we can do something
- 6:38like that soon. But yeah, I was out of town in
- 6:41Colorado this past week. So it it worked out well that we
- 6:45had a little bit of a break because I would probably not
- 6:47have been able to catch much baseball.
- 6:49In fact, didn't really catch as much this weekend as out of
- 6:51liked Yeah, but shout out shout out to the the family the the
- 6:56extended family that listens. We got a, we got a handful of
- 6:59them, like just about just about everybody checked in with me and
- 7:02asked me how it's going, like how that's.
- 7:03Big time. How's the show going?
- 7:05What are you all up to for the break?
- 7:06And I was like, we're laying low for once.
- 7:09Yeah. So shout out.
- 7:12Shout out to those of you Colorado family, Texas family,
- 7:16even East Coast family. Much love.
- 7:19Much love to you guys. Caught a Rockies game, Friend of
- 7:24the pod Jay Cave absolutely taken over the game that we were
- 7:28at. Think he tied it up with a
- 7:33double. I want to, I want to say tied up
- 7:38with a double or something. He it was a clutch.
- 7:41It was a clutch AB think he ended up on 2nd, drove in a run
- 7:45and then it just hit a nuke to right center.
- 7:51That was fun to watch. I think I haven't, I'm not
- 7:54looking at numbers out of whatever, but I don't there's
- 7:57there. I'm getting the vibe that he
- 7:58could he could potentially provide something to a
- 8:02contender. I think he's kind of liking it
- 8:04in Colorado, honestly. Like you can tell.
- 8:07Yeah, I think he likes wherever he goes.
- 8:09He's just that kind of dude. That's the kind of player he is
- 8:14trying to think. Oh, do you need, do you need
- 8:16food there? I did.
- 8:18I got did I not text you? I'd we got those, I was
- 8:22recommending to everybody those nachos that you and I got that
- 8:25last time, the monster nachos. Chicken Monster nachos, Yeah.
- 8:29I think I got the pork pulled pork, pulled pork monster
- 8:32nachos. Those are fantastic.
- 8:35Yeah, yeah. That's big time.
- 8:38That's big time, love. Course, last thing I'll say on
- 8:41the All Star stuff like the next day after the All Star game, I'm
- 8:51searching, I'm searching Reynolds in Atlanta for next
- 8:55year. I've got the list dwindled down
- 8:57to a few that I think I'm I may pull the trigger on one of them
- 9:02because there's free cancellation.
- 9:03My question to you though, as we're sort of planning this out,
- 9:07thinking about this really live here on air.
- 9:12Would it make sense to go to to meet down there Saturday and
- 9:17just make the most of the weekend?
- 9:20Or should we go out there Sunday and then just roll right into it
- 9:24with the Home Run Derby Monday? Because I think if I'm if I'm
- 9:30not mistaken. That's.
- 9:32What I was going to say, they do like the whole don't they do
- 9:34like the whole fan fest thing and then they do the like red
- 9:37carpet. The I'm pretty sure that's I
- 9:40think the fan fest is Saturday. Maybe the red carpet stuff is
- 9:43Sunday. I think we take the whole
- 9:46weekend if we're making the trip, you know what I mean?
- 9:48That's kind of what I'm thinking.
- 9:50Yeah, I think we take the whole, the whole as much of it in as we
- 9:53can, you know. Because I very well may, may
- 9:57pull the trigger like today, boy, just to lock it in.
- 10:01I mean, we if, if something comes up, if something comes up,
- 10:04we can always, we can always pull the plug, but.
- 10:06And the wives might be coming on this one.
- 10:08They might be coming. This we're we're stepping it up
- 10:13a little. Bit well, this the the rental
- 10:15that I'm looking at is going to house.
- 10:17It's it can house four people. So for whatever reason, the
- 10:19wives like we don't want to come.
- 10:20Maybe we'll just invite some other people with this.
- 10:23I don't know. Maybe Ryan can come down with
- 10:26us. I don't know.
- 10:27There you go. But yeah, I may.
- 10:29I might just pull the trigger. Not going to lie.
- 10:30I like that. I might do it.
- 10:32I like the spontaneity out of you speak.
- 10:35Speak it into it, into existence.
- 10:36We might just do it. All right, let's let's get into
- 10:40it here. But but first,
- 10:54that's for the people that saw the title of this episode like,
- 10:58oh, it's the the we're good. They're going to talk about the
- 11:01Astros. I don't want to listen.
- 11:03Grow up. Yeah, grow up.
- 11:05Yeah, you brought this on yourself.
- 11:07They did. You brought this on yourself.
- 11:09You were kicking them while they were down.
- 11:11And look, again, I don't really have a dog in the fight.
- 11:14I don't really care how the Astros season goes one way or
- 11:16another because again. I don't even like them.
- 11:18It's worth repeating a majority of the guys on the team have
- 11:21nothing to do with the reason that you don't like the
- 11:24franchise. We we're going to say it so
- 11:27we're blue in the face, but we said, you said specifically you
- 11:33said for those of you that are laughing, just wait.
- 11:37And you said, I hate that it's coming, but it's coming.
- 11:41And here we are. Here we are Astros in the first
- 11:47place in the American League West.
- 11:49They even this weekend had a day where they had sole possession,
- 11:52which was the first time all year, which is kind of
- 11:56considering. The start was crazy.
- 11:58Kind of mind blowing, but they have they have certainly
- 12:02arrived. What was the lowest of low?
- 12:05Was it like 10 games under 500 at one point?
- 12:08It was. According to Optus stats on
- 12:10Twitter, on June 18th, the Astros were 33 and 40 and 10
- 12:15games out. Just 24 games later, which I
- 12:19believe this was as of like Saturday or Sunday, they're now
- 12:23in first. They're the second team in MLB
- 12:26history to go from being 5 plus games under 510 1/2 games back
- 12:31to being in first place and fewer than 25 games along with
- 12:34the Miracle Braves of 1914, as we all remember fondly.
- 12:39Yeah. That was a good team.
- 12:41Sitting in front of the radio, just listening, you know?
- 12:45Taking it in, yeah, with a cup of warm milk.
- 12:49Those miracle Braves love that team.
- 12:51That was a good, that was a good squad.
- 12:53With the old with the old paddle ball game.
- 12:57Old Johnny Long legs. Mick Dickerson just playing.
- 13:00Remember that game? Playing with yeah, playing with
- 13:02a paddle ball, playing with their Yo Yos.
- 13:04Was Yo Yos even invented at that point?
- 13:07Of course they were. I remember though, I remember, I
- 13:09remember playing with it like it was yesterday back in 1914.
- 13:13Yeah, who doesn't? But like, I, I, I can't even
- 13:21sound surprised anymore. Like I'm not, I'm, I'm and it's
- 13:25not a bit anymore. Like I know we keep saying like,
- 13:27oh, we've been saying this, but legitimately we have been saying
- 13:31this for some time. And I'm still concerned for
- 13:35those of you that don't understand why or how this
- 13:40happened, it happens every year regardless how they how they
- 13:45start, they end up at the very least being a part of the
- 13:51picture. And here we are.
- 13:53We haven't even reached August yet and they're threatening to
- 13:57just cruise right on by the Mariners and everybody else
- 14:01that's in their way. So I mean, what more do we say
- 14:09beyond that point? Like it's just what they do.
- 14:11How much of this is the Mariners just kind of coming back down to
- 14:15earth, but also the Astros being what they normally are?
- 14:24Is it a combination for it to happen this quickly?
- 14:28I think it's a combination of that.
- 14:31I think it's a combination of of Seattle just kind of coming back
- 14:34down to the, the enter in the the they are who they, they are
- 14:40who we thought they were GIF, you know what I mean?
- 14:43I I'm at the point now, No, no. They don't excite me.
- 14:50They don't. Like I've, I'm sure my thoughts
- 14:54on the Mariners have evolved over time, but at this current
- 14:57stage, I'm, I'm just not all that like riled up when I think
- 15:04about the Mariners. I'm not like, oh, this is a team
- 15:06that could go deep in October. Like the the bit surrounding
- 15:10this club for the longest time was like, can they even get to
- 15:13October? And now it's like, OK, yeah, had
- 15:17a little taste of it. Didn't really do much to to at
- 15:20what? What do they say?
- 15:22Whet the whet the appetite or whatever didn't didn't really do
- 15:26much. I just, I, I think the
- 15:31pitching's been good. I'm curious to see, I think
- 15:33Robbie Ray is due back pretty soon.
- 15:37So it's like, you know, what do you, what do you get out of
- 15:40that? At the top of the list of things
- 15:43that don't really do anything for me.
- 15:45Go ahead and and Robbie Ray coming back to the list.
- 15:49I know. I mean, what are we talking
- 15:52about? Like this is a team that even
- 15:54when fully healthy doesn't really move the needle.
- 15:59They the the output is minimal and even like even your your
- 16:08guys that that you hope lead the charge in terms of grabbing
- 16:12national headlines such as a Julio Rodriguez, as we've
- 16:15already mentioned, is having a rather pedestrian year.
- 16:18Few years now. Yeah, so it's like they're
- 16:21they're just waiting for that stardom to fully blossom.
- 16:25I don't know if that's, we can't say for sure that it's coming.
- 16:27You'd like to think that it's coming, but you don't know for
- 16:29sure that it's coming. So given that it's like are why
- 16:38are why are why do people feel obligated to latch onto the
- 16:41mariner? I mean, I get it.
- 16:42If you're just tired of the Astro story, I, I understand
- 16:45that you, you want to latch onto them to maybe see something
- 16:48else, but like, they haven't, they haven't, they haven't shown
- 16:52us or given us any reason as to why we should believe that
- 16:56that's a that's a realistic track.
- 16:59Yeah, I mean, I, I think rotation for rotation, when you
- 17:02compare the Astros in in the Mariners, like you can see that
- 17:05that could be a little bit of a wash if the Mariners are doing
- 17:08what they. I mean, like it's not like
- 17:11George Kirby and and you know, Logan Gilbert are are chumps,
- 17:15you know what I'm saying? I think you could say it's a
- 17:19little bit of a wash there, but like the back end of the Astros
- 17:24lineup wise, like it's I'm I'm almost taking Astros at pretty
- 17:32much every position. You know, what's crazy is that
- 17:37they're now, we'll get into it here in a minute, but like, now
- 17:41I think they're both really in play for a little bop at first
- 17:46base. I think they're both looking for
- 17:48the same things at the deadline and it's going to make things a
- 17:52little more interesting. But I'm not surprised, man.
- 17:57This is just like when you have a group of guys that they've
- 18:01been to the ALCS like 17 times in a row.
- 18:04Like they just they, this is what they do.
- 18:06They know how to do this. And it's the marathon mentality
- 18:10of like, you know, it's OK if we started this way, we're just
- 18:13going to feel our way out and and eventually get to the point
- 18:16where we need to be. And now they're at that point
- 18:19and no one believed us. No one wanted to believe it.
- 18:24Hate them all you want, but like you, you got to still game has
- 18:27to respect game. You know what I mean?
- 18:28They're good. They're real good.
- 18:31How about you or Don getting a cycle?
- 18:33How about that? Oh, you're dipping into my
- 18:35clothes in the book. No, it's all right.
- 18:37Hey, it's worth noting you're Don Who maybe you're Don is
- 18:41finally getting back to like 100% You're Don there because
- 18:45you, I mean, I threw around the word pedestrian just a minute
- 18:48ago. I'm not saying he's had a
- 18:49pedestrian near by any stretch, but you can ask him.
- 18:52I I would bet and I would venture to say that he'd
- 18:54probably tell you that this hasn't been the best run through
- 19:00basically July that that he's ever had.
- 19:04But maybe this is something that'll truly get the get the
- 19:08wheels and the gears turn in for your.
- 19:10Are the numbers? Are there numbers that me?
- 19:13Well, that, but that's. Your Don standards.
- 19:16You mean that's what. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 19:18Your Don standards, I don't like.
- 19:21He's just he hasn't been in the he just hasn't for at least from
- 19:27my point of view from from where I'm standing, I haven't heard
- 19:30your Don's name as much as guys like Gunner.
- 19:35I mean obviously Shohei as we as often and as frequently.
- 19:41As we've heard. And I'm just telling you as
- 19:44through maybe what June, let me here, let me pull something up
- 19:48for you. Let me see.
- 19:53He's on your fantasy team. I know.
- 19:59OK, well, you want to look at it through the perspective of of
- 20:01fantasy. I was just looking at this
- 20:06yesterday. It's pretty, pretty fascinating,
- 20:13Jordan. Jordan Alvarez has slightly more
- 20:18points than Rafael Devers. Jaron Duran I get.
- 20:25What you're saying? Way less than Governor
- 20:28Henderson. Bobby Witt MVP status.
- 20:31That's yeah, I'm not saying again, people are going to hear
- 20:34that and go what are you talking about?
- 20:35Your Don's having a a great year.
- 20:37I'm yes, like if you're looking at if you're looking at league
- 20:43average, your Don's having a great year.
- 20:44I'm talking about your Don standers.
- 20:46He's not he at least up until late, he hasn't been going off
- 20:52the way I think you would expect as a, as what I think is going
- 20:57to be a a perennial MVP candidate.
- 21:04But I hear I, I keep hearing a lot of talk about the tiebreaker
- 21:08or maybe not a lot of talk, but I've I've saw I was reading a
- 21:11handful of articles we're talking about like, yeah, the
- 21:14importance of the tiebreaker and the Mariners getting getting the
- 21:16win on Sunday was huge as they wrap up the series of the
- 21:20Astros. And then I'm going.
- 21:25It's a nice thought to talk about and it's certainly a a
- 21:29factor. That's a play, but it's not
- 21:32really a play, if we're being honest here.
- 21:34Come on, the Astro, this, the tiebreaker is not going to go
- 21:39ahead, quote me, Sharpie, whatever you want to call it.
- 21:42The Astros are not going to need a tiebreaker at the end of the
- 21:48season. The tiebreaker will not be
- 21:50relevant between the Astros and the Mariners come the end of the
- 21:53season. I would concur.
- 21:57I would concur. I mean, it's interesting right
- 21:59now. I think, let me pull it up here.
- 22:04Through 10 matchups this year, Mariners hold a six, four
- 22:10advantage against the Astros. So that's worth noting.
- 22:15But that, I think more so, is relevant to the start that the
- 22:20Astros had because everybody was beating the Astros.
- 22:23They play 13 now, right? They had yeah, they have one
- 22:29series. Let me see.
- 22:34It's a final series of the year. I don't know if that's at the
- 22:39end of the season or if they're just talking about like the last
- 22:42time these two teams play, but that'll be in Houston.
- 22:46And it says as long as because the Mariners are up 6/4, as long
- 22:49as they don't get swept, they will own the tiebreaker.
- 22:53But it's my point is that that's not going to even matter.
- 22:59Yeah, I think so too. I just, I don't know if the
- 23:04Mariners are in a position roster wise to make that deep of
- 23:11a run. I think.
- 23:15I think I'm more so leaning to the fact that they have been in
- 23:19this position now just because of the Rangers and Astros being
- 23:24that subpar up to this point. I've, I, I don't, I wouldn't be
- 23:31surprised if the Astros win this by 5 games.
- 23:38The roster's just there and I, I, I have no idea.
- 23:41I think I don't, I don't have no idea where they're at farm wise,
- 23:47but I think the the Astros have less holes.
- 23:53You need guys to step up in in Seattle.
- 23:56You need you need stuff to start happening.
- 24:00By the way, the note about your Don that I was trying to pull up
- 24:04through June only had sixteen home runs.
- 24:09And I know I say only, but again, yeah, looking elsewhere
- 24:13around the league. It just I think he's still going
- 24:15to end up with a 35 home run season.
- 24:18I think it's just nuts. What I think it's more respect
- 24:22on what we're seeing across the league.
- 24:24Like we're seeing, we're going to see and that's 3-4, maybe
- 24:29five guys over 40 home runs this year and they.
- 24:31That's entirely my that's go back to the beginning of this
- 24:34conversation. That's entirely what I'm saying
- 24:36is. Like he's not one of those guys.
- 24:37He's just he's not in the mix right now with these other guys.
- 24:40But who knows, We'll see what can be many of the season has
- 24:43has in store. I kind of had to say it for
- 24:47later, but it probably just makes sense to talk about it
- 24:49now. Ty France placed on outright
- 24:53waivers by the Mariners. Let's not forget this man was an
- 24:58All Star. Yeah.
- 25:00Two years ago. Yeah, I get it.
- 25:09What was he getting like 2220 something?
- 25:13I don't have his numbers on the year, but in the he's played 26
- 25:19games since he came back from a fracture in his heel.
- 25:23I believe he's slashing 159, two 75227 with one home run and four
- 25:31RBIs. Yeah.
- 25:31Yeah, that's tough. The old lower half injury,
- 25:37injuries below the waist never really seem to to go away when
- 25:41you're that age. I feel for him a little bit.
- 25:44Outright waivers I believe I read means that if he does clear
- 25:48waivers, he's still a mariner and then he is allowed to be
- 25:51sent down. Yes, Seattle, Yeah, they placed
- 25:57one outright waivers he's been placed on, which I guess isn't
- 26:01just a variation of it. Irrevocable waivers.
- 26:04I read players outrighted typically can be assigned to
- 26:07their to the minor leagues. But because France has more than
- 26:10five years of Major League service, he can refuse the
- 26:12assignment. And if he signs as a free agent,
- 26:14his new team will owe him a prorated portion of the Major
- 26:18League and minimum, while the Mariners pay the difference.
- 26:26Trying to think of who would take a shot.
- 26:30I've seen speculation that the Astros would take a shot that.
- 26:33'D be crazy because such a slap in the face if he just gets sent
- 26:38over there and hits like 280, you know?
- 26:42'Cause who do they got over there now?
- 26:43Singleton, I think it is, yeah. He that's been, that's been bad.
- 26:47He's been kind of cheeks, but yeah, I've I've seen the Astros
- 26:53turn around and maybe it's like the proximity effect.
- 26:56Maybe it's maybe it's like the recency bias, but I've I've seen
- 26:58the Astros turn around and I mean, why not?
- 27:05Frankly, I don't see how that's any different than like a Jose
- 27:07Abreu situation. That's kind of what I'm
- 27:09thinking. I.
- 27:10Mean if you're the Astros, why not just go?
- 27:13Why not just go get a locked out?
- 27:15I don't know what's happening with Tristan Cassis.
- 27:20No, like he was supposed he was supposed to be back I think like
- 27:232 plus weeks ago still out. So I don't, I don't know what's
- 27:27going on there. Can't think of anybody else.
- 27:33And Dom Smith has been been holding it down enough, I think,
- 27:36to not to negate needing to shake up the the old apple cart.
- 27:42So. Tough, tough for Ty.
- 27:51Tough for Ty. Luke Riley, just slot in there.
- 27:54I mean, he's normally an outfielder.
- 27:55Does he play first at all? Rookie Tyler Locklear is
- 28:02prepared to take over the duties at first base.
- 28:06All right, we'll see. It's not going to matter.
- 28:09Yeah, I don't think it will either.
- 28:11Not going to matter Ozzy Albies headed to the IL like expected
- 28:23to miss likely 8 weeks. Is that that's basically just
- 28:32it, right, you know, yeah, back in October if.
- 28:38Yeah, I get trounced by the Phillies again.
- 28:40I don't, I mean. Are we, I mean, is it, are we
- 28:43just there? Can we just be there with
- 28:46Atlanta, just be like? What do you mean?
- 28:51How, how, how many times are you going to get kicked back down
- 28:54the mountain? You know what I mean?
- 28:56These are gut punches after gut punches.
- 28:59When you say there, can we be there with you, with the Braves?
- 29:02What are you, what are you saying?
- 29:03I at the at. Are you saying at the point of
- 29:06no return? At the point of there, it's just
- 29:09not this. It's not happening.
- 29:10Not this year. I if they sneak into a wild card
- 29:15spot, great. But like at a certain point,
- 29:18man, what is crazy though, is that you can still look at the
- 29:22middle of that line up and be like Riley Olson Azuna.
- 29:26And you're like, that's still kind of nuts.
- 29:31But at the same time, I'm like, how many?
- 29:33And I think, you know, with Freed, Freed has like the
- 29:36forearm thing going on, right? Yeah, he just got sent to the
- 29:39aisle this weekend, I believe. I What do we?
- 29:46What do we got? I mean, Matt, Matt Olson, Austin
- 29:52Riley, again, to draw sort of like a parallel to the Yordan
- 30:00thing. I'm not saying they're Yordan.
- 30:02I'm not saying Yordan is these guys.
- 30:03I'm just saying in terms of conversation about guys, I think
- 30:07coming into the year that you were expecting to have better
- 30:09numbers at this stage of the season, both Austin Riley and
- 30:14Matt Olson only have thirteen home runs.
- 30:17And I know that's not the only metric, but that's the first one
- 30:20that jumps off the page. You can look at advanced metrics
- 30:22and say, well, they're providing, they're providing in
- 30:26other capacities, but it's like bare minimum you're going to
- 30:30need, you're going to need some power from those guys.
- 30:32And they're they're, it's just lacking.
- 30:35There's too much going on, man. There's too much going on.
- 30:38I think Michael Harris is also on the IL.
- 30:45There's only so much you can overcome.
- 30:48There's only so much of the next man up mentality that are is
- 30:50going to be able to like get by. I mean, if I told you on opening
- 30:57day that at the end of July that Marcelo Zuna was going to be
- 31:02your headliner of the year, you're probably thinking that
- 31:07that season didn't go as expected.
- 31:10Yeah, that's a good point. Was Ozzy even doing that well?
- 31:18You know how I feel about Ozzy Alvis.
- 31:20I, I, I'm sorry, I just don't get it.
- 31:24I don't get the infatuation with Ozzy Alvis.
- 31:27And I'm not trying to kick a man while he's down and I'm not
- 31:29trying to ruffle the feathers of Braves fans.
- 31:31I know you all love him dearly, and I know that a lot of times
- 31:35fan bases get attached to a guy that maybe isn't as good as they
- 31:41they might think he is. That's just how how fandom
- 31:44works. I understand.
- 31:44I think we've seen now Dansby. I don't want to comment on
- 31:50Dansby. I don't want to upset I've I've
- 31:52already I've already planted my flag on on Ozzy.
- 31:55I don't need to add more fuel to the fire here.
- 31:58But with Ozzy, I I mean like, what are we?
- 32:05I need to pull something up here.
- 32:07We've done this before. We've done this before when when
- 32:10it's hard and, and granted it's been a minute since we did any,
- 32:14any sort of ranking around the league position, position wise.
- 32:19Second base is just so, so thin. It's like, so like, I, I, I
- 32:26don't think the argument of saying he's a top five second
- 32:28baseman in baseball really just, it doesn't hold that much water
- 32:31right now, you know what I mean? Yeah, and I'm not saying that
- 32:36he's not like that argument can be made certainly three time All
- 32:40Star Silver Slugger, 2 times Silver Slugger, but I just don't
- 32:49think he's this he's this must have that brave fans make him
- 32:54out to be when like when he when Ozzy goes down.
- 32:57Now, if they're making that argument based on the vibes and
- 33:03personality and and chemistry and just what he brings from
- 33:06that front, I'll, I'll hear that out.
- 33:09But this isn't exactly a guy when he goes down performance
- 33:13wise, that's really going to make you suffer that bad.
- 33:18Like your season isn't over if you lose Ozzy Alby's.
- 33:22You won the World Series without Ronald Ocuna Junior.
- 33:25Don't tell me that Ozzy Alby's is the glue that holds your
- 33:29World Series hopes together. Yeah, I mentioned earlier of
- 33:36like the lower half injuries. Same applies to hands, wrists,
- 33:43fingers, hands. This it's it's doesn't come back
- 33:50the same way. And I believe it was dumb last
- 33:55year, wasn't it? Or is that two years ago?
- 33:57I think it was a broken thumb for a while.
- 34:05I think that what or maybe it was two years ago, I think it
- 34:08was two years ago. I think it was two years ago
- 34:10because I believe I was at the game it happened at.
- 34:15I could be wrong. And so was that in September.
- 34:18Yeah, that was there for for my buddy's bachelor party.
- 34:22Yeah. So, yeah, I think I was at that
- 34:24game. Yeah, man, I, I think I'm with
- 34:29you. I think I'm with you.
- 34:30I've never really been like fully on board there, but
- 34:34overall I just, I just think the Braves are pretty cooked, man.
- 34:40I, I'm not going to say sell, but I think you could do a
- 34:43little bit of like a, like a, you know, like a we're just,
- 34:52we're just having. This whole conversation, we're
- 34:54just talking about like the value that each guy brings.
- 34:56Then we get to the point at this, at this point, the
- 34:58conversation, you go, you know, I think the Braves are just
- 35:03pretty cooked. I mean, hey, you said it, not
- 35:08me. You know how I feel about the
- 35:10division specifically the at least at this stage in the game.
- 35:15But I just want it on record that you said that, not me.
- 35:19I think they're they're, they're obviously good enough to hold on
- 35:22to this wild card spot, potentially even the top wild
- 35:24card spot. I just don't see a, a, a thing
- 35:31where they can look at this deadline and be like, we're a
- 35:35couple moves away from being able to hoist that trophy again.
- 35:39Just doesn't feel that way. Not with these big of names that
- 35:43have gone down. Then you kind of just, I think
- 35:46you got to take this one on the chin.
- 35:48If you're a Braves fan, just let the let the Phillies fans chirp
- 35:52this year. Let them be loud, because
- 35:54there's not much you can do or say right now.
- 35:58Look, I have, I just have one challenge for the Braves.
- 36:04You know what? I'll make this promise.
- 36:07I'll make this promise to Braves fans if the season pans out, if,
- 36:13if the the paces that have been set for this division hold true
- 36:18for the remainder of the season, if the Phillies end up taking
- 36:20it. I'm not going to say anything to
- 36:23Braves fans, but I will make this promise to Braves fans.
- 36:28If you finish beneath the New York Mets this year, you will
- 36:34never hear the end of it for me, and I can promise you that much.
- 36:41Four, they're they're currently four games behind you in the
- 36:44rearview mirror if you if you let the the Mets overtake you in
- 36:49the division. I'm not saying at any point, I'm
- 36:52just saying by the end of the year, you just better hope that
- 36:59doesn't happen in a year that the Met, again, the Mets were
- 37:02not supposed to compete. Just just know you've been
- 37:08warned. It's a lot of injuries though.
- 37:11Not it's the Mets, it's the Mets.
- 37:14It's the Mets. What are we talking about?
- 37:16It's a lot of big injuries. No, I I don't care.
- 37:21Frankly, I don't care. Ask me if I care.
- 37:24I still think they're cooked. Ask me if I care.
- 37:28I don't think you care. I don't care it's the Mets dude.
- 37:31Like even with the injuries you should still be better than the
- 37:35Mets. One would think.
- 37:40One would think. Oh no, they better hope that
- 37:47doesn't happen. That's all I'm going to say the.
- 37:50Philly side of you is growing by the day.
- 37:55It's absolutely not, it's just it's more of a brave thing at
- 37:58this point. The corresponding move, though,
- 38:02they they didn't wait around long, picked up Whitmer Field,
- 38:07added him to the squad, they added Whitmerfield.
- 38:18That's really all I've got there, I mean.
- 38:20I think Whitmerfield can play solid defense and hit 268 so.
- 38:25Yeah, he can certainly be a replacement for Ozzy Alby's
- 38:29that's there's no there's no doubt in my mind that that can
- 38:32take place. I mean, I I'm of the belief that
- 38:37they could have been worse. Like you could have been left
- 38:39with somebody a lot worse. I think.
- 38:42I think there's still some. I mean, he's what, 35I?
- 38:49I still think there's a little bit, I'm not saying like
- 38:51untapped potential, like we haven't seen the peak wit
- 38:54Merrifield's career. I'm not saying that.
- 38:56But like I, I, I think you can still get a little bit out of
- 38:58him for these last couple of months to to hold it down.
- 39:02Professional hitter who's going to play professional defense.
- 39:09It's all you need to squirm your way into the wild card spot.
- 39:14Is he going to put up Joe Morgan numbers?
- 39:15No. He's going to give you the
- 39:21minimum that you need at that position.
- 39:26I like the move personally. I I think it was a little bit
- 39:30interesting from the Phillies to do it.
- 39:34I saw the Rob Thompson interview about it.
- 39:37He's like this one hurt. He's like, I've been in baseball
- 39:40a long time and these conversations are never easy,
- 39:43but this one was tough. So I think it just shows that
- 39:46like the level of of value that a whit Merryfield brings,
- 39:52whether it's numbers are outside the numbers, I think there's
- 39:56some value there. So good move.
- 40:02Probably not that much of A drop off.
- 40:06I know I said what I said about Ozzie Alby's.
- 40:09I mean, it's definitely better than Whit Merryfield.
- 40:11You can be wrong. Yeah, well, I think it would be
- 40:16a little bit of a drop off. I mean, the guy was, let me see
- 40:19here, he's hitting $1.99 through 53 games.
- 40:26He's also never gotten to this point of not playing every day.
- 40:30He's just, he's been in this weird spot between the way he's
- 40:35treated with like the Royals, the Blue Jays, this like infield
- 40:39and outfield situation, the, you know, playing twice a week kind
- 40:43of thing. I think it's be good for him.
- 40:46I think if he plays everyday in Atlanta, you're going to see him
- 40:50capable of doing some stuff. I'm correct in saying that the
- 40:56Royals let him go at the right time, right?
- 41:04Hit hit 281 and 44 games for the Jays in 2020.
- 41:09Twos All Star last year hit 272 with 11 bombs.
- 41:15I mean. That's that's the, that's the
- 41:17medium right there. That's that's the normal.
- 41:20You'll get normal. If he plays every day you'll get
- 41:22normal. I mean, but you're seeing,
- 41:24you're seeing him hit north of 300 with Kansas City and then it
- 41:27kind of trickles off as he gets older.
- 41:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:32But All in all, I think to your point, drop off may not be that
- 41:36bad. So I think that's the take away
- 41:38here is that Whitmerfield, I think at the very least can hold
- 41:40it down. But to Nate's point, he said
- 41:44they're cooked, so doesn't really matter.
- 41:48Yeah, like if you're a Braves fan and you can get mad all you
- 41:54want, but like, let's be honest, let's look at what you've lost
- 41:57and you tell me if you're able to make a deep run.
- 42:01That's I think they know that the division is out of hand at
- 42:05this point and I think you know what it takes as a fan base, you
- 42:12understand what it takes for a roster to be able to do what
- 42:16they need to do in October. It's a hoisted trophy and and I
- 42:20don't see it just being realistic.
- 42:23They just got Eddie Rosario back too.
- 42:25I don't know if you saw that. Cooked.
- 42:27I'm over this. Let's move on.
- 42:29Let's stop talking about the Braves.
- 42:31Clayton Kershaw set to make his first start of the season this
- 42:35this week. Thursday to be exact.
- 42:41Dave Roberts said this weekend that he would be ready for the
- 42:45finale against the Giants. This is perfect.
- 42:51This is perfect. If you're the, if you're the,
- 42:54you're basically like Kershaw's in like Tiger Woods mode, You
- 42:58know what I mean? I'm just going to play majors,
- 43:01you know, I'll just show up in August.
- 43:05Give me the ball against the Giants.
- 43:07I'll be. Good.
- 43:07Give me let me show up the end of July, beginning of August,
- 43:11I'll give you 12 starts and then we'll go into the postseason
- 43:14feeling better. So this is good.
- 43:19This is good. I saw Glass now it's potentially
- 43:21coming back day after right? I was about to.
- 43:22Say yeah, he. Or the day before.
- 43:26Dodgers will get Glass now back for the series against the
- 43:31Giants. So is he?
- 43:34Oh, he's scheduled. He's Wednesday.
- 43:35He's he's he's scheduled Wednesday.
- 43:37Yeah. And then Kershaw is what I say.
- 43:41Thursday. Yeah.
- 43:42So day before. That's big.
- 43:45I also wonder how much of the, the glass now thing was just a
- 43:48little bit of load management. There's let's, let's not be
- 43:54naive. Let's not be naive here, people.
- 43:56The the load management and the IO manipulation is a thing.
- 44:01And I know Billy Eppler was the one that that took that hit, but
- 44:07every team does it. It's so real in baseball now.
- 44:11It did I, I correct me if I'm wrong.
- 44:14I don't think it used to be a thing really, but it's it's
- 44:18evolved into being a thing in baseball.
- 44:20But The thing is, is that Major League Baseball doesn't want to
- 44:24admit it. They, they, they want to turn
- 44:26people's eyes and attention away from the fact that, oh, this
- 44:29thing that everybody's getting on the NBA for, yeah, Major
- 44:33League Baseball does it too. But we don't want to say that
- 44:35because we're the blue collar all American sport and always
- 44:38have been. It's super easy to do with guys
- 44:41that like, I've had a pretty lengthy injury history as well.
- 44:45For sure, for sure. And it's like you can sit there
- 44:52and and tell us that you're the blue collar all American sport,
- 44:55but the 2nd that the amount of money that's involved in
- 44:59baseball as is today gets jumbled up.
- 45:05All that stuff goes out the window.
- 45:06You're going to get caught up in trying to protect these stars
- 45:10just the same way that they do in the NBA and elsewhere in the
- 45:14sports world. That's just the reality of it.
- 45:16So Major League Baseball needs to just stop pretending this is
- 45:20a thing. It's very real.
- 45:23Let's just hope it doesn't get out of hand.
- 45:26What are you laughing at? Soto just hit a home run and
- 45:29this is this is becoming laughable how slow these home
- 45:32run trots are being with the them in the race.
- 45:34Just going back back and forth with the slowest possible home
- 45:38run trots. To be fair, he did go upper deck
- 45:41to right field, but. Are we going to see a Yankee or
- 45:44a Ray in this game? Walk.
- 45:47Just the whole way, the entire if.
- 45:51Yeah, if you don't know what we're talking about, just look
- 45:55up how slow these home run trots have been in the last few days.
- 45:58Look up Jose series. Would you say second home run of
- 46:01the day? Scumbag or no, I don't know one.
- 46:04His home run today. He's had two in this series, but
- 46:08O2 in the series. That's right.
- 46:09Yeah, he had one yesterday. It was really slow.
- 46:11Hit another one today, slower today.
- 46:14Check out around third base. Yeah, I was going to say check.
- 46:16Out his his little stretch around third, there it was.
- 46:20It's quite comical. I'm still holding out hope.
- 46:23No, that's whoa. We need to be careful with my
- 46:25words here. I'm not holding out hope because
- 46:27that would sound or that would just be really weird.
- 46:30I'm, I'm holding on to the belief that at one point down
- 46:38the line in Major League Baseball, we're going to see
- 46:41whether it's a rivalry or just two teams that don't really like
- 46:45each other. We are going to see a player in,
- 46:51in an attempt to mock the other team pull down his pants and
- 46:55just like take a dump on first base.
- 46:57Like we are going to see something so egregious in our
- 47:00lifetime because like, it's only going to get worse.
- 47:03We're seeing guys literally walk around third base.
- 47:07Yeah, that we're going to. This is the can of worms that
- 47:11were opened a few years ago. And this is This is why we were
- 47:14we were yelled at and called old heads and called boring.
- 47:19And it wasn't what was happening at the time.
- 47:21It's what we knew was going to come.
- 47:23And watching what's happening, it's all coming to fruition.
- 47:27Perfectly said. It wasn't like when we were
- 47:29talking about it when this whole let the kids they they were
- 47:32Major League Baseball was giving the guys shirts to wear that
- 47:35said let the kids play. And like, it's not what's going
- 47:38on now. It's what it's the can of worms
- 47:40that's opened that's going to lead to what we're going to see
- 47:43down the road. And sure enough, like, and, and
- 47:47it's, it's hilarious to watch because all these players like,
- 47:50no man, we're just out of here having fun.
- 47:52Let the kids play. But the second somebody takes a
- 47:53little bit too long rounding third base, then it's whoa, no
- 47:58cap on my Mama. I'm going to throw hands on God.
- 48:02Like it's, that's what, that's where we're at now.
- 48:04And it's like, OK, well, you all, you all just going to eat
- 48:07yourselves alive. Going back and forth on the the
- 48:11state of the game and what should be allowed, what
- 48:12shouldn't be allowed. I'm over it, I'm over it.
- 48:17I'm all good. I'm all good with I'm all good
- 48:19with pimping a home run. I'm all good with a little bit
- 48:21of chin music after the fact. But beyond that, like we, we
- 48:26don't need the, we don't need the theatrics because it's just
- 48:29going to rip the game apart because guys are going to get
- 48:31their feelings hurt and then nobody's going to want to
- 48:33freaking play anymore because they're going to want to pick up
- 48:35the ball and go home. Oh, so I'm so done with it,
- 48:40dude. I'm done with this whole this
- 48:43whole narrative. It's I'm over it.
- 48:46I'm over it. Monday, KC built different.
- 48:50Monday daytime, Daytime Monday KC Too much Mike Trout could be
- 49:02could be back. I think he's actually I don't
- 49:07know if he's officially set to make his return, but I think he
- 49:10the the return is imminent. Cool.
- 49:13I saw as soon as Thursday against the A's.
- 49:17That's a good team maybe to match up.
- 49:18Actually, no, I take that back. I need to I need to show some
- 49:22respect to the A's here. He's been playing decent ball.
- 49:26Decent ball is an understatement.
- 49:31The some of these box scores, dude, they put up, let's see
- 49:36here, they put up 18 against the Phillies, 13 against the Angels
- 49:42the next day they put up 8 the day after that, put up five.
- 49:46That like, I don't know what's happening to the A's right now.
- 49:52I don't know where this offense is coming from.
- 49:53Probably Brent Rooker and Brent Rooker only guys baseballs right
- 49:58now. Look up Miguel and do hard
- 50:00numbers. I'm not going to go into it, but
- 50:03it's what Miguel and do hard numbers are crazy.
- 50:08You'd be you're going to be insanely surprised there.
- 50:12And he's like split in time with Rooker.
- 50:14He's not even playing every day. Trying to find just some quick
- 50:19numbers here. He's hitting three O 4 and 200
- 50:25ABS for Oakland. Wow.
- 50:34Not bad, right? Good for Miguel Anduar there's.
- 50:42Going to be some names to move there but I don't I don't I
- 50:45whatever. Back to the trout thing.
- 50:50I feel like this is just a whole lot of news today that just
- 50:55doesn't get me fired up. I think the only people that
- 50:59care about this Mike Trout news are fantasy owners.
- 51:03Well, it's, it's I, I failed to mention this off the off the
- 51:06top, but the reason we're recording Monday today is
- 51:11because again, I was out of town in Colorado this past week and
- 51:15we got in late and didn't really want to have to worry about
- 51:19squeezing an episode in prior to getting to bed to get ready for
- 51:22the work week. So here we are, recording today.
- 51:27During the work day. Well, I'm on my lunch break in
- 51:31case anybody's listening. In case anybody's listening,
- 51:34this is my lunch break. So just relax.
- 51:41Why did I share that information?
- 51:44Oh, because today I was, I was pulling, I was pulling together
- 51:47the, the, the rundown, the agenda.
- 51:49And I kind of had the same thought.
- 51:51I'm like majority of this news on this fine Monday doesn't
- 51:55really doesn't really get me going.
- 51:56For the But here we are. But here we are for the people
- 51:58you know. I mean the.
- 51:59People need us. I think that's partially due to
- 52:02the fact that we're we're only coming off three games.
- 52:05We guys I think are. Yeah.
- 52:08Little bit, little bit sluggish, little bit, yeah, you know,
- 52:12fresh off the break, you're kind of easing back into it a little
- 52:14bit. But yeah, we we don't really
- 52:17have much to go off from the past few days.
- 52:20So this is kind of what we're dealing with.
- 52:22But you're you're really struggling to find the find the
- 52:26the juice with the mic trout stuff.
- 52:28I I'm very over it. I'm very over it.
- 52:32I saw, I saw a clip of him hitting off the tee on the field
- 52:37and I'm like, I don't know, in my mind that's a little bit of a
- 52:41scumbag move, you know what I mean?
- 52:43We're just like you. If you're going to do tee work,
- 52:45you could just keep the balls in the cage, you know what I mean?
- 52:49So we're out here. Wow, we're at the.
- 52:51Point in Mike Trout's career where you think he's just
- 52:53pulling off scumbag moves. How that's like that's like just
- 52:56it's a little I felt and on this whether how to fall on BP, I'm
- 53:01not sure, but I thought it was a few weeks ago and they were like
- 53:04he's swinging off a tee and man's is on the field and I'm
- 53:07just like, do we need that? How?
- 53:11Far he's fallen in the eyes of Nate Reyes.
- 53:14Unreal. I'm just over it.
- 53:16I'm just over it. I appreciate what you've done
- 53:18for our game, but I'm tired of hanging on every word of all the
- 53:24updates that we need to do to keep up with your 85 game season
- 53:29every year. I no, I refuse.
- 53:33I refuse to turn on Mike Trout at this point in his career.
- 53:37I know I've, I know I've wavered.
- 53:39I know I've echoed this, a similar sentiment at times where
- 53:43I'm like, I'm just done, but I'm at the point now and I, I'm like
- 53:48this with everything. Meredith tells me this all the
- 53:50time. I won't like something if it's
- 53:56like all the rage. Like everybody's talking about
- 53:57it. Like whatever, Taylor Swift.
- 54:00Like, not that I was planning on talking about Taylor Swift.
- 54:02Taylor Swift's a perfect example.
- 54:04Big ricochet here. I like it.
- 54:06No, for real no, I'm trying to give her some props here.
- 54:09When when she was just like all the rage up like pre Travis
- 54:13Kelce. I'm like I no, I'm done.
- 54:17I still don't listen to her music.
- 54:18I just want that on record. No, I'm good.
- 54:20But I'm like, I'm done with Taylor Swift.
- 54:23I I I'm tired of hearing about it.
- 54:25But the second she started catching straight or not
- 54:28straight as pretty, pretty direct hate with the whole like
- 54:32NFL thing. I'm not going to say I turned
- 54:36into a Swifty, but I'm like, let's dial it back a little bit
- 54:39here. She's what do you want her to
- 54:41do? Just like sit in a a dark room
- 54:43all day and just not do anything.
- 54:46Relax. So I'm kind of the same way with
- 54:48Mike Trout where it's like everybody was, oh, Mike Trout's
- 54:51the greatest man. And then you and I were kind of
- 54:54on the same page where it's like.
- 54:55Well, I don't like showing current guys goats.
- 54:58I hate that. Like you have, yeah, you have to
- 55:00show it you like you have to. And he did there for a while,
- 55:03but then very quickly fell off the injury Cliff and just hasn't
- 55:07been able to recover. But now everybody's kind of on
- 55:12the same page as you where they're just like, I'm I'm, I'm
- 55:15over it. Let's talk about show.
- 55:16Hey now. And it's like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 55:17whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not forget about Mike
- 55:21Trout over here. So I've, I'm, I refuse.
- 55:24I'm over this. Story what do we like I get it
- 55:27he's going to come back and he's probably going to still end up
- 55:29having like forty home runs by the end of the season and it's
- 55:33for a wasted ass angels team well that's like.
- 55:36Well, that's not. Cool, the same thing I've read.
- 55:39I've seen this movie 1,000,000 million times and it's just
- 55:43it's, it gets worse every time I see it.
- 55:45So I I don't want to watch it anymore.
- 55:48I get. It but I'm just saying I'm I'm
- 55:50not going to be on the wrong side of history when his career
- 55:53is over and it's time to reflect back on Mike Trout's career and
- 55:56everybody is like, yeah, man, Mike Trout was great.
- 55:58It's like no, no, shut up, no, and I'm not saying you, I'm
- 56:02saying the people that are going to then all be like buddy, buddy
- 56:05Mike Trout, like no, I never I I didn't turn on the guy when he
- 56:09didn't have anybody else in his corner.
- 56:11I was there. Oh, he's got plenty of
- 56:15delusional people on his corner. As the meme goes, if Mike Trout
- 56:19has one fan, something, that's me.
- 56:22If Mike Trout has no fans, I'm dead.
- 56:24That's that's where we're at now.
- 56:27That's where we're at because it doesn't sound like anybody
- 56:30really cares about the remainder of Mike Trout's career.
- 56:32By the way, Speaking of angels, I need.
- 56:35You dismisses me combined. I need you to apologize to me.
- 56:39For what? For Joe Adele.
- 56:41I told you who he was. I told everyone who he was.
- 56:45And you tried to get me to apologize in May.
- 56:48Yeah, because he was good at the time.
- 56:51And I now look at it, I said hey.
- 56:54Let's take a look at what Joe Adele is doing here.
- 56:56You're like, no, the guy sucks. I said, well, no, He's actually
- 56:59playing pretty well right now. Look again, I'm not responsible
- 57:02for what happens in July. I made an apology.
- 57:05I said at the time, I said at the time that he was, he was
- 57:11playing well. And it warranted in my mind, an
- 57:16apology from you because you were just like unnecessarily
- 57:21ruthless against the guy. And I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 57:24This isn't even like a house. He's not even really a household
- 57:26name. And you're just picking out Joe
- 57:28Adele from the crowd. And like, I don't like that guy.
- 57:31He's. Sitting 198 now.
- 57:33That's yeah, that's nice. So anyway, we all knew.
- 57:37I knew and everyone said that I owe apologies.
- 57:42I ain't apologizing to nobody. All right, Conor McGregor, let's
- 57:45talk about Kodai Senga. Kodai Senga talking about
- 57:48returns could be back sooner than we think.
- 57:54In fact, this week, I believe Friday against the Braves, the
- 57:58aforementioned Braves. Wow.
- 58:02I mean, you want to talk about a, a good team to bring him back
- 58:04against. Bring him back against a team
- 58:07that might finish beneath the Mets.
- 58:11That's pretty smart. That's pretty, pretty smart on
- 58:14behalf of the Mets. You're talking about a team that
- 58:16could finish below you in the standings and that's similar.
- 58:19It's like the same thing you would do with like the A's or
- 58:21something. Like bring him, bring him back
- 58:22against the team. It's scuffle a little bit.
- 58:24It's a good time, it's a good time.
- 58:27I'm I'm looking forward to see it to to see in the return,
- 58:30though I I feel like we we were cut short of a of a.
- 58:36Super hot start this year didn't.
- 58:37He Yeah, Well, no, not hold on. This would be.
- 58:48Or is this his season debut? This would, yeah, season debut.
- 58:51I thought he started the year. No, no, you said hot start and I
- 58:54agreed with you because I thought you were talking about
- 58:55like last year just as a whole. But yeah, no, he hasn't.
- 58:58He hasn't pitched this year. Well, this just shows you how
- 59:02much I care about the Mets. Yeah, we know, We know.
- 59:06He went 12 and seven with a 298 last year, led the team and wins
- 59:12ERA and strikeouts, which not really saying much 'cause it's
- 59:14the Mets, but. Is the resurgence the New York
- 59:17Mets need? Here's the question is go get
- 59:22that. First round exit.
- 59:25No, no, no, no, no. From this point forward, we're
- 59:28not when we're talking about the when we talk about the Braves
- 59:30and the Mets, we're not talking about the playoffs.
- 59:31We're talking about who finishes above who, and Kodaisenga might
- 59:37be The X Factor that the Mets need to surge past the Braves.
- 59:43I agree. Then they need to, they need to
- 59:47really just stand, stand firm on keeping Peter Alonso in place.
- 59:53If I mean, what's more important, Matt's the the future
- 59:56of your franchise or whether or not you can, you can outlast the
- 1:00:00Braves this year. If you can surge past and
- 1:00:03outlast the Braves this year, how?
- 1:00:04Long does that carry you? You know what I mean?
- 1:00:08I mean, you want to talk about morale?
- 1:00:10It's a big booster that's for years.
- 1:00:12You can. You can hold that.
- 1:00:13But but look, look at what we've talked about today.
- 1:00:16Today alone, you tell me. You tell me this.
- 1:00:19What's what's a better edition? Whit Merrifield or Kodaisenga?
- 1:00:25That's true. That's what.
- 1:00:27That's. What we're dealing with here,
- 1:00:28yeah, that's what we're dealing with here.
- 1:00:32I like that. I like that breakdown.
- 1:00:34I'm. I'm I'm almost kind of pulling
- 1:00:37for this upset at this stage. Now we've talked about it
- 1:00:39enough. I.
- 1:00:40Am I Mets fan now? Am I let's go Mets or are we
- 1:00:44both? Are we both Mets fans now?
- 1:00:46Like are we pulling for this? No, I can't do it.
- 1:00:51I kind of, I just kind of want to see it because I just want to
- 1:00:54see how, believe me, I don't have like this personal vendetta
- 1:00:57against Braves fans, but I would just love to see how they
- 1:00:59respond. Some could say greatest fans
- 1:01:04have a personal vendetta against you.
- 1:01:05That's understandable and that's reasonable, but I explained on
- 1:01:08the Home Run Derby live stream watch party that I'm just kind
- 1:01:12of, I'm just kind of laying low. But if they want to, if they
- 1:01:15want to throw something in my face, I'm going to throw it
- 1:01:17right back at them. Yeah.
- 1:01:19Typically tying the Phillies into it somehow because that's
- 1:01:24just an easy win and that and that argument.
- 1:01:28But I would just be curious to see how the how Braves like what
- 1:01:32the what the response from Braves fans would be if they
- 1:01:34finished in third this year. I think that would really hit
- 1:01:37home, you know, real kick to the nuts that.
- 1:01:43'D be tough closing the book here.
- 1:01:50Shohei Otani. Oh my.
- 1:01:53Has joined Aaron Judge as the only members in the 30 home run
- 1:01:56club so far this year. And this in crazy fashion.
- 1:02:02We're not going to talk about who he did it against, but it
- 1:02:04was 473 feet on Sunday Night Baseball.
- 1:02:08Here's what doesn't make sense is that how does he hit it out
- 1:02:11of Dodger Stadium and then Solaire hit one like 10 rows up,
- 1:02:16dead center field and quarters 478?
- 1:02:19Yeah. How does that happen?
- 1:02:21I don't understand that if that if I've if I've ever seen 515
- 1:02:24feet. I think I just saw it.
- 1:02:26Don't tell me it's 473. I don't buy that nuke job
- 1:02:31though. Crazy.
- 1:02:37Unreal. You already stole it earlier.
- 1:02:40You're Don Alvarez hit for the cycle on Sunday as well.
- 1:02:46And my next note here very much related in route to his triple
- 1:02:52that he he tallied on Sunday, Julio Rodriguez got caught in
- 1:02:58the crossfire a little bit, collided with a wall trying to
- 1:03:01make a play on it. X-rays came back in negative.
- 1:03:05The ankles like. Yeah, that I watched it.
- 1:03:08I watched it back, that was. Didn't look good.
- 1:03:10Not didn't look good, but sounds like all things considered
- 1:03:15should be hopefully all right, says Scott.
- 1:03:18Scott survey says it's a little bit of an ankle sprain, so
- 1:03:22hopefully all good there on that front.
- 1:03:25And lastly, Jim Leland, Adrian Beltre, Todd Hilton and Joe
- 1:03:31Mauer. What a group.
- 1:03:33Our Hall of Farmers. What a group.
- 1:03:36What AI love that we are now in this, this time and place where
- 1:03:41we can be like I these are all dudes that I watched.
- 1:03:44These are all dudes that I specifically remember Jim Leland
- 1:03:48just ripping heaters in the dugout blowing back some darts.
- 1:03:54Providing an awesome closing to his speech that I that I sent
- 1:03:58you that was. Amazing.
- 1:03:59Yeah. If for those unfamiliar, go look
- 1:04:01up Jim Leland's speech. Just nailed it.
- 1:04:05I love. I love that I Todd Hilton didn't
- 1:04:08disappoint. Todd Hilton was exactly who Todd
- 1:04:10Hilton was. He's said in his speech.
- 1:04:13He's like, the last thing I want to do is sit up here and talk
- 1:04:15about myself. But what an honor it is.
- 1:04:17Like, that's cool, man. That's cool.
- 1:04:19That guy is is the dude Adrian Beltre?
- 1:04:23No duh. What a group.
- 1:04:28Side note, have they done the whole Cooperstown patch on the
- 1:04:33hats? Have they done that before?
- 1:04:35Because I I feel like I just noticed that for the first time
- 1:04:37and I was a big fan. I don't know.
- 1:04:40Like for for the games being played this weekend, like all
- 1:04:42the players had the the Cooper Sound or the Baseball Hall of
- 1:04:45Fame patch. I would have liked, I would have
- 1:04:46liked them to be better, better on the hat.
- 1:04:49You could see that it was like, you see like the side angles
- 1:04:53like sticking out. It was like separated.
- 1:04:56I got like a little bit of a better performance there, a
- 1:04:58little bit more new era, but overall very cool, very neat.
- 1:05:05That was a nice touch and being in, I will say, being at at
- 1:05:08Coors this weekend, in fact, we're literally like, because I
- 1:05:13don't know, the ceremony was yesterday, right?
- 1:05:15Sunday. Isn't that when they do the
- 1:05:16ceremony? Yeah, being there this weekend
- 1:05:21for the game Friday. I mean, all sorts of Todd Hilton
- 1:05:25stuff around the park. So that was cool to see as they
- 1:05:27were getting ready for their their guy to get inducted.
- 1:05:32I'm really happy he made it in. I'm really happy you made it in.
- 1:05:36I, it seems to me that we're trending towards potentially
- 1:05:40Andrew Jones getting in with this next ballot.
- 1:05:43I think he's, his numbers are climbing.
- 1:05:45So that's like my next, that's like my next, you know, mission.
- 1:05:50Just get the word out. You know that's got to happen.
- 1:05:56I think it will. I think it needs to.
- 1:06:00That's crazy. That's an absurd name to not
- 1:06:02have. I don't know what are we doing.
- 1:06:05We're not going to put him in because he played for so long.
- 1:06:07It's like, OK, so then we're also going to punish the guys
- 1:06:12that played. We're going to we're going to
- 1:06:14keep him out for the reason that we get on people that don't play
- 1:06:17long enough. It's like, well, you didn't play
- 1:06:19the you didn't play for the sweet spot amount of time.
- 1:06:21What is that? Shut up.
- 1:06:23Andrew Jones is a Hall of Famer. Let's let's relax.
- 1:06:26One of, if not the greatest center fielder.
- 1:06:28No. OK, one off, one off, one off.
- 1:06:30Can't say the but. One off.
- 1:06:33Top ten center fielder of all time.
- 1:06:34Slam dunk solidified. Secured.
- 1:06:40Sharpie set in stone. Mark your calendars.
- 1:06:46I don't know. No cap.
- 1:06:49All riz. Sheisty I.
- 1:06:55Don't know what the hell. No, cap, and that's on my Mama.
- 1:07:01All right, let's get out of here.
- 1:07:03Anything else you got for the folks?
- 1:07:07Yeah. I mean, I was just kind of
- 1:07:09curious if you had an answer you.
- 1:07:12Didn't ask me a question. Well, I was I was thinking about
- 1:07:14like, you know this the other day and it's just it's kind of
- 1:07:18been with me, you know, when is when is it's ITS OK and when is
- 1:07:26IT apostrophe S the move, you know what I mean?
- 1:07:30So I feel like my phone and my my computer just correct things.
- 1:07:36Do we need like a little? Do we need like a little grammar
- 1:07:38lesson? Here I just.
- 1:07:39Wasn't sure if you just knew that off the top.
- 1:07:41You know it's is an abbreviation with with an apostrophe.
- 1:07:47It's is an abbreviation for. It is sure.
- 1:07:53It's without an apostrophe refers to that person's thing,
- 1:08:01item, home. Whatever it is, it's the dog.
- 1:08:07You should talk about. A dog, it's dog.
- 1:08:10House, It's food. That's without an apostrophe.
- 1:08:14So for the first time ever, the apostrophe is not possessive,
- 1:08:17but everything else it is possessive.
- 1:08:19That's I. Yeah, I guess that's how if you,
- 1:08:22if you want to explain it that way, Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:08:29There's this TikTok where the dude's talking like in Spanish
- 1:08:32of like, if you say this word, this word, this word, and
- 1:08:35they're all just like super close.
- 1:08:37It's great. And he does like the whole
- 1:08:40sentence of it. You'll, you, yeah, you'll find
- 1:08:43it. All right.
- 1:08:44That's all for me. I just a good way to end it, you
- 1:08:47know? There's that thing.
- 1:08:50Can you just like share some other things while I try to find
- 1:08:52this this clip real quick? I did have a note, but I did
- 1:08:57have a note that I, that I'd like to, I don't know, I don't
- 1:09:01know if this is something we can settle right here and now, but
- 1:09:03I, I'd like to maybe just like get it out there as a pole for
- 1:09:06the people. But you know, I was, I was
- 1:09:09fighting with my wife yesterday about what what is a better
- 1:09:17addition slash snack slash go to celery or carrots And I was
- 1:09:26curious if you had a had an opinion on that.
- 1:09:30If given a choice, I'm probably going carrots.
- 1:09:34I'm going celery where I don't think carrots are great.
- 1:09:43I don't think carrots are worth their time.
- 1:09:45I think they're very overrated. I think a celery can dance
- 1:09:50around in Buffalo sauce ranch, or you can mess around with
- 1:09:53peanut butter. Can carrots do that?
- 1:09:55I don't think so. So there's that too.
- 1:10:01That that was on my mind as well.
- 1:10:04I got a lot on my mind lately. That sounds like it.
- 1:10:06I can't find this video, but it was basically just this, like it
- 1:10:09was the same thing you were going to talk about.
- 1:10:11It was like a French. It was like fun phone, phone and
- 1:10:17it was it was like Google Translate and it was like 16
- 1:10:20different meanings. I'm just like what what, what is
- 1:10:23language? Like what, what is happening
- 1:10:24here? Anyway, that's that's kind of
- 1:10:27all I got. We will see you guys.
- 1:10:29Are we getting back on schedule here?
- 1:10:31Are we going to try to pick it up Wednesday?
- 1:10:33Whatever you want, man. It's whatever you want.
- 1:10:39Let's say yes, I've I have a feeling there's going to be some
- 1:10:41things happening today and. True.
- 1:10:42Yeah, we're getting, we're getting closer to trade, trade
- 1:10:46season. So maybe we'll have a thing or
- 1:10:48two to talk about. Let's hope.
- 1:10:50Let's hope in the meantime. Nod, nod.
- 1:10:53We love you and you don't. Don't you dare ever go chasing
- 1:10:56curveballs. We love you and as always,
- 1:10:58looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
