- 1:16Speaker 1: Clendenin is coming up. We're going to hear from Missouri
- 1:20Speaker 1: coach Eli Drinkwitz. And Mallory is here. She got her
- 1:24Speaker 1: voice back. She'll have some entertainment news for us in
- 1:28Speaker 1: the back half of the second hour of the program.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Weather forecasters and officials and fans are watching the tropical
- 1:38Speaker 1: storm that is due to turn into a hurricane and
- 1:42Speaker 1: headed for the Central Coast on Friday that may affect
- 1:47Speaker 1: the big Georgia-Alabama football game in Tuscaloosa, scheduled for 6.30
- 1:53Speaker 1: at Bryant-Diddy Stadium. No decisions expected until tomorrow. When they
- 2:00Speaker 1: get closer, look at the storm track predicted landfall for
- 2:04Speaker 1: Isaiah's right now shifted east from Mississippi to Alabama. We
- 2:11Speaker 1: will see what happens. They had talked about perhaps moving
- 2:16Speaker 1: the game, but that's probably not going to happen. College
- 2:21Speaker 1: football continues tonight with Jacksonville State at Kennesaw State and
- 2:28Speaker 1: New Mexico State at Florida International. Last night, Troy beat
- 2:34Speaker 1: Southern Miss 55-24. Major League Baseball playoffs underway. Cleveland trying
- 2:43Speaker 1: to win a game they have to win. They have
- 2:46Speaker 1: just scored four in the third inning to take a
- 2:50Speaker 1: 4-1 lead over the White Sox. Starting in an hour,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Dodgers and Braves. Let's see. Also, Rays, Yankees tonight. Brewers,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Padres tonight. In case you missed it late last night,
- 3:11Speaker 1: the Padres stayed alive. Brewers still up two games to one.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Yankees returning home, but they're down to the Rays. Two
- 3:18Speaker 1: games to none. Elimination game tonight. And Yamamoto did what
- 3:24Speaker 1: he did last night, last year in the World Series.
- 3:27Speaker 1: He shut the Braves down. And the Dodgers lead Atlanta
- 3:32Speaker 1: two games to one. 3-1 was the final of the
- 3:36Speaker 1: game last night. He's pretty good. Chris Sale wasn't bad
- 3:43Speaker 1: at all. But Yamamoto was better. Alex Cora has for
- 3:48Speaker 1: a second time said no to the Philadelphia Phillies, according
- 3:52Speaker 1: to USA Today. Cora has been linked to the Phillies'
- 3:54Speaker 1: jobs as being fired by the Red Sox earlier this year.
- 3:59Speaker 1: He spoke with Philly's president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski.
- 4:03Speaker 1: According to USA Today Sports, Dombrowski talked to Cora about
- 4:08Speaker 1: becoming the manager next year. Cora still owes $ 7 million
- 4:12Speaker 1: from the Red Sox. He turned down the opportunity. He
- 4:16Speaker 1: had turned it down six months ago when he offered
- 4:20Speaker 1: the manager's job to him at the really end of
- 4:25Speaker 1: the first month of the regular season. The SEC and
- 4:30Speaker 1: ESPN announced television schedules for men's basketball. The Aggies begin
- 4:38Speaker 1: league play Saturday night, January 2nd, at Reed against Auburn.
- 4:47Speaker 1: They have home games against Arkansas, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt on
- 4:53Speaker 1: the ESPN Networks. Games at Florida, Vanderbilt, Texas, and Kentucky
- 5:01Speaker 1: on the ESPN networks. A & M will take on
- 5:05Speaker 1: Oklahoma State and Stanford November 12th. That's SEC Plus. They
- 5:14Speaker 1: take on the Cardinal in the SEC ACC Challenge December
- 5:20Speaker 1: 2nd on the U. And A & M spends Thanksgiving
- 5:24Speaker 1: in the Bahamas in the Battle for Atlantis. The Wednesday
- 5:30Speaker 1: right before Thanksgiving, 1.30 in the afternoon on ESPN2 Marquette. Friday,
- 5:36Speaker 1: the day after Thanksgiving on the SEC Network. So you
- 5:41Speaker 1: got that going for you, which is nice. It is
- 5:45Speaker 1: almost basketball season. We're not quite there yet. Two-time major
- 5:53Speaker 1: golf champion John Rahm is leaving the Live Golf League.
- 5:58Speaker 1: dealing a blow to that circuit, trying to emerge from
- 6:02Speaker 1: federal bankruptcy. During a hearing with U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
- 6:06Speaker 1: New Jersey, Judge Michael Kaplan, Rahm's attorney, John Beck, said
- 6:13Speaker 1: that Rahm is leaving.
- 6:14Speaker 8: Mr.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Rahm has independently reviewed the proposed term of LIV 2.0
- 6:20Speaker 1: and has determined those terms are unacceptable to him and
- 6:23Speaker 1: he will not be participating. Beck said Rahm and Liv
- 6:26Speaker 1: Goff were working to finalize a separation agreement by next week.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It isn't clear where he would play next year. PGA
- 6:37Speaker 1: Tour CEO Brian Rolap had affirmed that the tour currently
- 6:40Speaker 1: had no plans to bring back the returning member program,
- 6:46Speaker 1: which would allow Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Cam Smith to
- 6:51Speaker 1: come back on certain conditions. Brooks Koepka said, came back
- 6:55Speaker 1: to the tour in January, eventually they have to let
- 6:59Speaker 1: those players back into golf if they want to call
- 7:03Speaker 1: themselves the best league in the sport. Those three guys
- 7:08Speaker 1: have to be involved, and the punishment seems petty to me,
- 7:13Speaker 1: quite frankly. But hey, that's just me. Let's see. What
- 7:21Speaker 1: else do I have? Coming up tomorrow, I will tell
- 7:25Speaker 1: you that we will have our Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition.
- 7:29Speaker 1: We've got a trip to the Everglades in store for
- 7:32Speaker 1: you for that one. We'll have a high school report.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We're probably going to have a couple of Aggie football players,
- 7:42Speaker 1: some basketball on the program tomorrow. On Friday, our usual
- 7:47Speaker 1: Friday visit with Kirk Bowles of the Houston Chronicle. and
- 7:53Speaker 1: Tony Catalina of 247 Sports in our Aggie Football Preview
- 7:59Speaker 1: in the second hour on Friday with Ryan and Caleb.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Several of you have commented on the interview I replayed
- 8:12Speaker 1: yesterday with Coach Fran. You can find that interview on
- 8:17Speaker 1: our podcast. We did it in the second hour of
- 8:20Speaker 1: the show yesterday. at chiphower.com, zone1150. com, and we're putting up
- 8:28Speaker 1: the interview on our interview page on my website as well.
- 8:34Speaker 1: So there's really no excuse ever to miss the show,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and frankly, there's no excuse not to hear the show live,
- 8:41Speaker 1: but occasionally I understand that things happen, so you can
- 8:47Speaker 1: pick that up. Also, We just booked an interview with
- 8:56Speaker 1: Big Bill O'Reilly, who has been a frequent guest on
- 9:00Speaker 1: this program. He has a brand-new book out. You know,
- 9:07Speaker 1: all of his books have been mega bestsellers. We have
- 9:11Speaker 1: had him on for just about all of them. And
- 9:18Speaker 1: they have been, you know.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Easy, easy reads, um, you know, clearly written. And I,
- 9:30Speaker 1: I think that, um, I enjoy visiting with him. Uh,
- 9:37Speaker 1: his new, uh, his, the book, the last time we
- 9:40Speaker 1: had was, uh, confronting evil. Um, this one is on
- 9:47Speaker 1: America and, um, I'll have a couple of copies to
- 9:51Speaker 1: give away. I've I've, I've already read it and, um, yeah,
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm looking for, I always look forward to, to visiting
- 10:02Speaker 1: with him. Uh, we don't do politics per se on
- 10:06Speaker 1: the program. Um, but the books, uh, a lot of
- 10:14Speaker 1: them historical in nature, quite frankly. And, um, So I've
- 10:22Speaker 1: enjoyed them, and I think you'll enjoy having him on
- 10:29Speaker 1: and talking about a range of issues. And I like
- 10:35Speaker 1: him because, you know, he never holds back on his opinion.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So there you go. Okay. Oh, I'm also working on
- 10:47Speaker 1: Michael Starr. He has a book out on Bob Newhart.
- 10:53Speaker 1: And I'm almost finished with that book. We're going to
- 10:55Speaker 1: get him on maybe as early as next week. I
- 10:58Speaker 1: will let you know. And I've had so much fun
- 11:03Speaker 1: reading about Newhart's career. And of course, the two TV shows,
- 11:10Speaker 1: the incredible debut album, The Button Down Mind, that sold...
- 11:18Speaker 1: over a million copies, which was unheard of at the time.
- 11:22Speaker 1: And it's been fun reliving Newhart's career. And it's been
- 11:29Speaker 1: fun looking behind the scenes and knowing that he's just
- 11:34Speaker 1: about as affable a guy as he was with his
- 11:37Speaker 1: public persona. And, you know, you know that a lot
- 11:41Speaker 1: of time that's not the case with famous people or
- 11:46Speaker 1: infamous people. for that matter. All right, we're going to
- 11:50Speaker 1: take a break. We're going to come back. We're going
- 11:52Speaker 1: to hear from Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz after this
- 11:57Speaker 1: for Chad Jones Law.
- 12:00Speaker 10: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 12:03Speaker 10: do injuries from car wrecks. but you didn't sign up
- 12:05Speaker 10: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 12:07Speaker 10: paying attention. It was their fault, and now you're left
- 12:10Speaker 10: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a doctor,
- 12:12Speaker 10: and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help. We've
- 12:15Speaker 10: been helping our neighbors for more than two decades. Stop
- 12:17Speaker 10: getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember, don't
- 12:21Speaker 10: get mad, get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at 979-595-5000
- 12:26Speaker 10: or go online to chadjoneslaw.com.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It's Tech Sags Live, brought to you by David Gardner's Jewelers.
- 12:32Speaker 7: I really liked KJ.
- 12:34Speaker 11: Edwards yeah i i wrote that 11 carry 66 yards
- 12:39Speaker 11: that 20 yard run was just something we hadn't seen
- 12:42Speaker 11: this year and maybe again with the the speedy show
- 12:46Speaker 11: maybe not since a chain yeah you know it looked
- 12:50Speaker 11: very hns and i like that some are calling k.
- 12:52Speaker 12: Chain tech sacks live brought to you by david garner's
- 12:55Speaker 12: jewelers hang out weekdays from 8 to 11 on the
- 12:58Speaker 12: zone on.
- 13:00Speaker 13: The road again.
- 13:04Speaker 5: Just can't wait to get on the road again The
- 13:08Speaker 5: life I love is making music with my friends And
- 13:12Speaker 5: I can't wait to get on the road again.
- 13:16Speaker 1: On the road again.
- 13:19Speaker 5: Going places that I've never been. Seeing things that I
- 13:24Speaker 5: may never see again. I can't wait to get on
- 13:28Speaker 5: the road again.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Welcome back. It is Old Willie Wednesday. Scott Clendenin is
- 13:33Speaker 1: coming up. We'll visit about stuff going on in the
- 13:36Speaker 1: sports world. It is 4-1 Cleveland. It is the bottom
- 13:42Speaker 1: of the third inning in this game three with the
- 13:48Speaker 1: White Sox having won the first two in Cleveland, two
- 13:52Speaker 1: games to none. But, hey, a win here puts a
- 13:55Speaker 1: little pressure on the home guys, right? Man, I don't
- 13:59Speaker 1: think I've ever seen that ballpark full before. That's not true.
- 14:03Speaker 1: They won a World Series about 20 years ago, and
- 14:06Speaker 1: they beat the Astros doing it. I have been to
- 14:10Speaker 1: that ballpark. When A & M played Notre Dame, we
- 14:13Speaker 1: actually ended up going to a game at that ballpark
- 14:17Speaker 1: on the south side. Okay, I told you we're going
- 14:22Speaker 1: to hear from Eli Drinkwitz, part of his press conference
- 14:26Speaker 1: earlier this week.
- 14:28Speaker 14: Certainly have our hands full with Texas A & M, obviously.
- 14:32Speaker 14: Coach Elko does a terrific job, playoff team last year.
- 14:36Speaker 14: a ton of really good football players, excellent roster from
- 14:40Speaker 14: five stars to four stars, incredible transfers. They've got an
- 14:45Speaker 14: elite quarterback. I've been a Marcel Reed fan since 2024.
- 14:50Speaker 14: I think he's playing. He's gotten his confidence back. They're
- 14:54Speaker 14: back into a rhythm offensively. You know, when he can
- 14:56Speaker 14: run and pass, make plays with his eyes downfield, he
- 15:00Speaker 14: is very difficult. They've got Reuben Owens at running back
- 15:04Speaker 14: who's an elite player. They had a freshman kind of
- 15:06Speaker 14: step up, and that K.J. Edwards young man, they're able
- 15:09Speaker 14: to establish the run. They have an unbelievable offensive line.
- 15:14Speaker 14: They've kind of moved some players around where they moved
- 15:17Speaker 14: the Alabama transfer into guard and put Lamont Rogers on
- 15:20Speaker 14: the field who we're all aware of in this room
- 15:23Speaker 14: since he was committed to us at one point. So
- 15:26Speaker 14: offensively elite players all the way around, Isaiah Horton, the
- 15:30Speaker 14: wide receiver, Mario Craver, Ashton Bethel-Roman, three really elite dudes.
- 15:35Speaker 14: Micah Riley-Ducker is a tight end who is from the
- 15:39Speaker 14: Nebraska area that we know pretty well. So very good offensively. Defensively, obviously,
- 15:47Speaker 14: Coach Elko and his staff do a tremendous job. They
- 15:49Speaker 14: returned five starters from last year's team and got transfers
- 15:55Speaker 14: and other players to help supplement what they do. They're
- 15:58Speaker 14: always really sound against the run. and then are always
- 16:02Speaker 14: really sticky in man-to-man coverage, and they've got elite players
- 16:06Speaker 14: at the corner positions. I think Des Ricks is kind
- 16:09Speaker 14: of the class in the SEC as far as being
- 16:11Speaker 14: an elite corner with length and speed, and we certainly
- 16:15Speaker 14: have had our hands full going against him. Special teams,
- 16:17Speaker 14: they have two elite specialists with their punter and kicker.
- 16:21Speaker 14: I think they made a 50-something-yard field goal attempt with
- 16:24Speaker 14: the transfer from Illinois, and so all three phases, well-connected,
- 16:29Speaker 14: played really well, It's going to take us a great
- 16:32Speaker 14: week of practice in order to prepare and have an
- 16:34Speaker 14: opportunity in this game.
- 16:35Speaker 8: So with that, I'll open it up with questions.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Gabe on.
- 16:40Speaker 8: Your left.
- 16:40Speaker 15: Eli, what's the difference in the way you have to
- 16:43Speaker 15: approach your team maybe going into a week like last
- 16:47Speaker 15: week when they're coming off a tough loss and maybe
- 16:49Speaker 15: hearing negative things versus this week when they're probably hearing
- 16:53Speaker 15: a lot more positive things? Do you treat them any
- 16:55Speaker 15: differently or the approach in practice?
- 16:59Speaker 8: The approach in practice, no.
- 17:02Speaker 14: The only thing we can control is the process and
- 17:04Speaker 14: the plans we put in place in order to play
- 17:06Speaker 14: a game at the right level. I think it's got
- 17:09Speaker 14: to be a focus on improvement, and that's really all
- 17:12Speaker 14: we talked about last week was how can we get better,
- 17:14Speaker 14: what are those things that we must improve. I think
- 17:17Speaker 14: the sense of urgency on that last week was different
- 17:20Speaker 14: than maybe what they feel, so it's important for our
- 17:23Speaker 14: staff to create that urgency. but our approach is not.
- 17:27Speaker 14: Our approach is we have to improve in a lot
- 17:29Speaker 14: of different areas, and that starts on Toughness Tuesday for us,
- 17:33Speaker 14: so not really a difference in our approach. It's all
- 17:38Speaker 14: about improving from week to week, and it's just a
- 17:41Speaker 14: matter of how focused you are on making sure that
- 17:44Speaker 14: gets done.
- 17:47Speaker 16: Defensively, how do you need to approach a matchup against
- 17:51Speaker 16: a quarterback who's seen you before and played against you before,
- 17:53Speaker 16: like Marcel Reed, as opposed to maybe one who's seen
- 17:55Speaker 16: you for the first time?
- 17:59Speaker 14: Yeah, obviously I think he's got some tape on us
- 18:05Speaker 14: from last year and kind of how we approached that game.
- 18:08Speaker 14: I think that was a little bit different based off
- 18:11Speaker 14: of our personnel. I think our style of play was
- 18:13Speaker 14: a little bit different. So there'll be some unique things
- 18:16Speaker 14: that are different for both sides of the ball there. Obviously,
- 18:21Speaker 14: they have a new coordinator, so maybe play style, play
- 18:24Speaker 14: design on their end will be different. But, I mean,
- 18:27Speaker 14: he's a really good player who's got a lot of
- 18:28Speaker 14: experience in this league. He's seen a lot of different defense.
- 18:32Speaker 14: I don't think that you're necessarily going to trick him.
- 18:34Speaker 14: I think the biggest thing for us is we've got
- 18:36Speaker 14: to try to prevent his superpower, which is his running
- 18:41Speaker 14: the ball. to affect us negatively as a team. That
- 18:45Speaker 14: hasn't been something that we have been great at. I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 14: you look at the Mississippi State game, a lot of
- 18:49Speaker 14: extra yardage with the quarterback. So that's a challenge, you know,
- 18:56Speaker 14: that we've got to figure out a way to– limit that,
- 19:02Speaker 14: especially with the challenges that we have at the end position.
- 19:05Speaker 14: It kind of fit us last week that we were
- 19:07Speaker 14: able to move Sterling out to that edge position because
- 19:10Speaker 14: of the boundary run game, but now does that speed
- 19:13Speaker 14: differential create a negative impact for us? Those are all
- 19:17Speaker 14: the things that we have to try to figure out
- 19:18Speaker 14: as we put this game plan together.
- 19:21Speaker 17: Cody?
- 19:24Speaker 15: I know Robert Woodyard missed a handful of plays, I think,
- 19:26Speaker 15: at a couple different times in the game, and he's
- 19:28Speaker 15: also the green dot.
- 19:29Speaker 7: What's your guys' protocol?
- 19:31Speaker 13: What changes?
- 19:32Speaker 15: Who becomes the green dot when he has to be
- 19:34Speaker 15: off the field and miss time?
- 19:35Speaker 14: Yeah, Rob doesn't play the entire game, so Jeremiah, when
- 19:39Speaker 14: he comes in, becomes the green dot. We have the
- 19:44Speaker 14: ability to create a secondary player as a green dot
- 19:47Speaker 14: if we felt like we need to and then signal
- 19:49Speaker 14: into the front but right now that's the the plan
- 19:53Speaker 14: has just been for jeremiah to uh to be the
- 19:56Speaker 14: green dot or whoever comes in at the mic position yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 17: This stage of the season from from your experience what
- 20:02Speaker 17: is it the Great teams, teams that are able to separate.
- 20:05Speaker 17: What is it that they are able to do from
- 20:07Speaker 17: this point in the season to maintain a winning standard?
- 20:10Speaker 14: They find ways to improve from week to week. Best
- 20:13Speaker 14: teams are always getting better. Best teams are never satisfied
- 20:16Speaker 14: with the previous week's performance. The best teams are going
- 20:18Speaker 14: to Tuesday practice hungry. They're going to inside drill, working
- 20:21Speaker 14: on hands inside. They're going to tackling circuit, making sure
- 20:25Speaker 14: their helmets are in the right place and have great leverage.
- 20:27Speaker 14: They're going to pods work, whether it's you know, BPU
- 20:31Speaker 14: with linebackers and running backs, or whether it's O-line working
- 20:35Speaker 14: double teams versus the D-line, and they're working every inch
- 20:38Speaker 14: of that fundamental, making sure they have leverage, hands placement
- 20:40Speaker 14: where they need to. Average teams just get through practice.
- 20:45Speaker 14: Great teams utilize practice to find ways to improve.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Nellie?
- 20:51Speaker 7: Obviously a career game for Jamal last time out. How
- 20:54Speaker 7: have you seen him just adapt to the amount of
- 20:56Speaker 7: carries he's getting in a game, and what's impressed you
- 20:58Speaker 7: about just how he's handled that workload?
- 21:00Speaker 14: Yeah, I think it's a tribute probably to not just him,
- 21:03Speaker 14: but our athletic performance staff really working his body from
- 21:08Speaker 14: a weight management standpoint, getting him the right kind of
- 21:10Speaker 14: weight on. I think our athletic training staff are working
- 21:14Speaker 14: both prehab and rehab, post-game recovery, and then our strength.
- 21:17Speaker 8: Staff are getting him stronger.
- 21:18Speaker 14: He's really put in a lot of work since Ahmad's
- 21:21Speaker 14: injury to be able to carry the load that he
- 21:23Speaker 14: needs to carry. I think he's He's been really more
- 21:28Speaker 14: impressive than maybe I gave him credit for going into
- 21:31Speaker 14: the season with his ability to break long runs. So
- 21:36Speaker 14: that's been a really good thing. But this week really
- 21:39Speaker 14: doesn't care about last week. So this is a whole
- 21:41Speaker 14: new challenge, different kind of challenge with the way the
- 21:45Speaker 14: safeties fit, the way they get their safeties involved in
- 21:48Speaker 14: the run game. They try to trick you into a
- 21:50Speaker 14: light box and then fill with a safety. And I
- 21:53Speaker 14: think Marcus Ratcliffe's one of the better safeties in the country.
- 21:55Speaker 14: So it's going to be a real challenge for us.
- 21:58Speaker 8: All right.
- 21:59Speaker 1: That's, uh, Eli Drinkwitz, the Missouri coach. Remember they are
- 22:04Speaker 1: without their all American running back, Ahmad Hardy, who was
- 22:11Speaker 1: shot in the summertime. I haven't heard anybody ask the
- 22:16Speaker 1: question when or if he's going to be back. Uh,
- 22:21Speaker 1: Roberts filled in last week and ran wild against Florida.
- 22:25Speaker 1: They're also without their two starting defensive ends. Uh, so
- 22:33Speaker 1: they've had some injury issues without question. Uh, and everybody does. Um, I,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I tell you what, uh, let's go ahead and play this. Um,
- 22:49Speaker 1: And Stan will remind me to talk about the green dot.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I realize that there may be a couple of you
- 22:56Speaker 1: out there that don't know what that is. You've heard
- 23:00Speaker 1: the term, but you're not sure what it is. We'll
- 23:04Speaker 1: tell you what that is. But I'm going to play
- 23:09Speaker 1: Jalen Shelley because he visited with the media yesterday, the
- 23:15Speaker 1: day before. Maybe late last week. I get all confused
- 23:21Speaker 1: with my time. But he is a new player for
- 23:26Speaker 1: the Aggie basketball team and for Bucky, one of the
- 23:30Speaker 1: highly skilled and touted new players. And fun listening to him.
- 23:37Speaker 15: Jalen, what's your first few months been like here at
- 23:40Speaker 15: A & M and how you feel like you're acclimating
- 23:43Speaker 15: to the system and everything?
- 23:45Speaker 8: My first few months have been good. When I first
- 23:48Speaker 8: got here, I was still recovering from my surgery, but
- 23:52Speaker 8: I think the transition went really smooth. Just getting adjusted
- 23:55Speaker 8: to the system and meeting all the guys, it's been
- 23:58Speaker 8: going really well.
- 23:59Speaker 15: When were you back to full health and just what
- 24:01Speaker 15: was maybe the biggest adjustment getting back from that surgery?
- 24:05Speaker 8: I think like maybe like a month before we went
- 24:08Speaker 8: to the Bahamas is when things started really ramping up.
- 24:13Speaker 8: But like, I think my actual day of being fully
- 24:17Speaker 8: clear was like August 2nd. So like the day we
- 24:19Speaker 8: played our first game, the Bahamas was like, like the
- 24:22Speaker 8: actual day I could have been like live and stuff
- 24:24Speaker 8: like that.
- 24:26Speaker 18: Becky was talking about kind of how unique of a
- 24:28Speaker 18: player you are with your size, but your ability to
- 24:30Speaker 18: play the kind of system that you want to play.
- 24:32Speaker 18: Do you see yourself like that as, as a kind
- 24:34Speaker 18: of unique skillset?
- 24:36Speaker 8: Yeah, I think my versatility is a good fit for
- 24:40Speaker 8: this type of system, being able to play fast and
- 24:43Speaker 8: having multiple guys who can play inside and out. So
- 24:48Speaker 8: I feel like I could be a perfect fit for that.
- 24:50Speaker 18: How would you describe his system, especially the defense?
- 24:54Speaker 8: I just think it's aggressive. I feel like It kind
- 25:00Speaker 8: of reminds me, if we put it in a football sense,
- 25:03Speaker 8: the Vikings defense. The Vikings defense blitz a lot. They're
- 25:07Speaker 8: trying to go at the quarterback and they play a
- 25:09Speaker 8: lot of man. I feel like that same aggression is
- 25:12Speaker 8: on the basketball floor. We're just trying to come at you,
- 25:15Speaker 8: trying to wear people down and just keep going and going.
- 25:19Speaker 8: Have you played a system similar to this before? I
- 25:25Speaker 8: think maybe in high school at Link Academy, we ran
- 25:29Speaker 8: a two to one press like the whole game. And
- 25:32Speaker 8: so I guess you could kind of say it's a
- 25:34Speaker 8: little similar. And then we had like a, just an
- 25:37Speaker 8: open offense where we just let our guys play, but
- 25:40Speaker 8: nothing like where, you know, it's just constant. Like we
- 25:43Speaker 8: nonstop track me.
- 25:45Speaker 18: When you're coming to a new school and you don't
- 25:48Speaker 18: really know many people, how much does it help to
- 25:50Speaker 18: have one of your good friends and former AAU teammates
- 25:53Speaker 18: and Tyshawn Archie.
- 25:54Speaker 8: Here with you? Oh, it's good. Actually, um, You know,
- 25:59Speaker 8: it's crazy. I've known Rylan and Jeremiah even longer than Tyshaun. Like,
- 26:04Speaker 8: I met Rylan probably when I was in kindergarten. Me
- 26:07Speaker 8: and his little brother was playing on the same AAU team. Like,
- 26:11Speaker 8: our first ever AAU team was together. So I've seen
- 26:15Speaker 8: Rylan play and grow up and play on pro skills.
- 26:18Speaker 8: I was with him. He played the Drive Nation. I
- 26:20Speaker 8: was just a team two years younger than him. And
- 26:22Speaker 8: then JG, we met in, like, sixth grade. He joined
- 26:28Speaker 8: our team on Drive Nation, and ever since then, like,
- 26:31Speaker 8: his dad and my dad got really close. And his
- 26:34Speaker 8: dad has been training me ever since, like, from seventh
- 26:38Speaker 8: grade to now on. You can go to their page and, like,
- 26:40Speaker 8: see me and Jeremiah working out, like, every day together. Like,
- 26:43Speaker 8: it's kind of crazy.
- 26:45Speaker 15: How would you describe your college journey so far and
- 26:47Speaker 15: just how that all has impacted.
- 26:50Speaker 8: You as a player? It's been, like, a real learning experience,
- 26:54Speaker 8: you know, especially starting with, you know, you expect to
- 26:59Speaker 8: be going into the SEC. Like I was signed and
- 27:02Speaker 8: committed to Arkansas. And then the last month before I'm
- 27:05Speaker 8: about to move in, I I'm told that, yeah, like
- 27:09Speaker 8: the rest of the staff and coach must is going
- 27:11Speaker 8: off to USC across the country. And so, um, you know,
- 27:15Speaker 8: just being prepared for whatever happens and not everything will
- 27:19Speaker 8: go exactly how you want it as planned, but I
- 27:20Speaker 8: think I'm back on track.
- 27:23Speaker 19: What all went into your decision to come to A
- 27:25Speaker 19: & M and as a Texas guy, just, just, How
- 27:27Speaker 19: much was.
- 27:28Speaker 8: That kind of the appeal? Definitely being back at home
- 27:31Speaker 8: in Texas and also playing at SEC. I feel like
- 27:34Speaker 8: that kind of fits my play style. And, you know,
- 27:36Speaker 8: I think the SEC is probably the best conference in
- 27:39Speaker 8: the country. And so with that and then being so
- 27:45Speaker 8: close to home and Bucky's system, it's just I feel
- 27:47Speaker 8: like it all fell in place the right way.
- 27:49Speaker 18: The guys you talked about that you knew before helped
- 27:52Speaker 18: that transition or that decision?
- 27:55Speaker 8: Yeah, definitely, like, in the transfer portal process, talking to AG,
- 28:01Speaker 8: talking to Rylan and Jeremiah, just getting to know how
- 28:06Speaker 8: the coaches really are inside the system, just not really
- 28:10Speaker 8: what they're exactly saying in the recruiting process because coaches
- 28:13Speaker 8: aren't really, you know, coaches aren't really the most honest
- 28:16Speaker 8: when it comes to recruitment. So, you know, you have
- 28:18Speaker 8: to really talk to a player to really understand how
- 28:21Speaker 8: they are as a person.
- 28:22Speaker 18: You know, Becky kind of mentioned you as being kind
- 28:24Speaker 18: of a glue guy, a guy that people want to
- 28:25Speaker 18: hang out with. Do you see yourself like that, and
- 28:28Speaker 18: he said this team is kind of one that likes
- 28:31Speaker 18: to hang out.
- 28:31Speaker 19: With each other.
- 28:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I like, you know, just being able to relate
- 28:35Speaker 8: to everybody, you know. I don't want to have to
- 28:38Speaker 8: always be around the same people all the time. Like,
- 28:40Speaker 8: I could talk to this friend group, talk to this
- 28:42Speaker 8: friend group, and, like, be able to, you know, hear
- 28:44Speaker 8: people out because I feel like that's just important as
- 28:47Speaker 8: a teammate to know, like, you know, I got this
- 28:50Speaker 8: guy's back, he got my back, and, like, we could
- 28:52Speaker 8: trust each other.
- 28:54Speaker 18: You mentioned that you've got ability to go to the
- 28:57Speaker 18: next level and he thinks that you have the skill
- 28:59Speaker 18: set to do that.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Does this system help.
- 29:01Speaker 8: You with that?
- 29:02Speaker 1: And has that been part of the conversation that kind
- 29:04Speaker 1: of draw you to this program?
- 29:05Speaker 8: Yeah. The coach has got a lot of confidence in
- 29:08Speaker 8: me and I kind of feel in my game myself,
- 29:12Speaker 8: I feel like I'm able to play with a little
- 29:14Speaker 8: bit more freedom and, you know, just trusting my game
- 29:18Speaker 8: and being able to shoot the ball a little bit more.
- 29:20Speaker 8: And I feel like me being able to play with, like,
- 29:22Speaker 8: a clear head is always going to be able to
- 29:25Speaker 8: improve my game. So I think that's a good part.
- 29:29Speaker 14: What are some of the things that, like, Ryland or
- 29:31Speaker 14: Jeremiah told you about this program and this team?
- 29:36Speaker 8: They were just telling me, Bucky really cares. He cares
- 29:39Speaker 8: about his guys. He's not a coach that's worried about
- 29:43Speaker 8: his resume and winning games and stuff like that. He
- 29:46Speaker 8: really cares about the production and getting guys better and
- 29:52Speaker 8: trying to do what's best for the team. It's not
- 29:55Speaker 8: about who gets paid the most or whatever. He's just
- 29:58Speaker 8: really all about you know what I'm saying, basketball when
- 30:01Speaker 8: it comes to Bucky. And then also the relationship they
- 30:05Speaker 8: had with him off the court, like him calling, checking
- 30:09Speaker 8: in at times, just seeing how you are as a person,
- 30:12Speaker 8: like not as a basketball player, that really stood out
- 30:16Speaker 8: to me.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Kind of on a broad note, getting acclimated to a
- 30:20Speaker 4: new program, what do you wish more Aggie fans understood
- 30:24Speaker 4: about you as a player and as a person?
- 30:28Speaker 8: I think just how much I'm going to be able
- 30:34Speaker 8: to put in for the program. I'm going to put
- 30:37Speaker 8: everything in. I care. I care about all my teammates
- 30:42Speaker 8: and what we have going on. I don't want people
- 30:45Speaker 8: to maybe get distracted with my path, how I got here.
- 30:49Speaker 8: This is my third school, but I kind of feel
- 30:53Speaker 8: like this is a situation where I'm here to stay
- 30:55Speaker 8: with it. It's NBA next year. I'm going to be
- 30:58Speaker 8: right back. I don't see myself going anywhere else.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Jalen Shelley, one of the guys that you'll be watching
- 31:05Speaker 1: here in a month or so when the season gets underway,
- 31:09Speaker 1: the basketball season, Buckyball is back. All right, we're going
- 31:14Speaker 1: to take a break. Scott Clendenin is here. Mallory is
- 31:18Speaker 1: here as well. I'll tell you about the Green Dot.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Sevchuk Service Center. 2200 Longmire, just down from the post
- 31:26Speaker 1: office in College Station, has been part of our community

- 31:39Speaker 1: see him and his staff if you need something with
- 31:41Speaker 1: your automobile or your truck. Foreign or domestic, gasoline or
- 31:46Speaker 1: diesel engine. They take care of problems over there, and
- 31:49Speaker 1: they're going to make sure you're satisfied when they're finished
- 31:52Speaker 1: with it. Could be something as simple as a flat
- 31:55Speaker 1: tire or a dead battery. There's no better place to
- 31:57Speaker 1: go for those kinds of emergencies. Could be a little
- 32:01Speaker 1: bit more complicated. Maybe you just need some gasoline. The
- 32:05Speaker 1: triage is always right there at the gas pumps, and
- 32:08Speaker 1: they'll look at it, take care of you. That's what
- 32:10Speaker 1: they do every day. They're open until 6 this evening.
- 32:14Speaker 1: The garage area, 7 to 6 through Friday and 7
- 32:19Speaker 1: to 4 on Saturday. So keep that in mind. It's

- 34:05Speaker 4: Tonight in a bar alone I'm sitting Apart from the
- 34:12Speaker 4: laughter and the cheer Scenes from the past rise before me.
- 34:22Speaker 1: You know, that's not a song when you hear the introduction.
- 34:27Speaker 1: It's like, oh, that's Willie. You've got the little jazz
- 34:31Speaker 1: band playing there. You've got a little clarinet playing there.
- 34:36Speaker 1: A little jazz version of an old country song, Bubbles
- 34:41Speaker 1: in My Beer.
- 34:44Speaker 7: It's like when we played whatever last week, the trigger
- 34:47Speaker 7: wasn't even in the song.
- 34:48Speaker 8: I know.
- 34:49Speaker 1: It's crazy. Okay, let's do Friday's Fearless first.
- 34:53Speaker 7: Good, I got it up.
- 34:53Speaker 1: While I'm thinking about it.
- 34:55Speaker 21: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest Week 6. You have a
- 34:59Speaker 21: little more than 48 hours to make your picks. Five
- 35:01Speaker 21: o'clock Friday will be your deadline for week number six.
- 35:06Speaker 21: Go to the website at chiphoward.com, the contest page.
- 35:10Speaker 1: Even if you haven't played, you can luck into a
- 35:12Speaker 1: weekly prize. Here are the games. Georgia-Alabama is the tiebreaker game.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Rudder at Belton. Consolidated at Pflugerville-Weiss. A & M- Missouri. Texas, Oklahoma,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and Dallas. UCLA at Oregon. Houston at Kansas State. Florida
- 35:34Speaker 1: State at Louisville. Boise State at Fresno State. And the
- 35:40Speaker 1: Texans and the Titans. It's the first game between 0-4
- 35:47Speaker 1: teams since O.J. Simpson was running the football. I know
- 35:53Speaker 1: you find that hard to believe. Late in his career, yeah.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And that was a Monday night game. This isn't a
- 36:05Speaker 1: Monday night.
- 36:06Speaker 13: Game, is it?
- 36:06Speaker 8: No.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Oh, good. It doesn't matter to me.
- 36:09Speaker 7: You should have the Cowboys on the list and have
- 36:12Speaker 7: it not count, and it would be better than this dog.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Yeah, they were playing Thursday, and I just didn't want
- 36:18Speaker 1: to do that yet. That's why the Cowboys aren't on
- 36:21Speaker 1: the list. I just added an extra college football game.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Last week was apparently way too easy. We had a
- 36:27Speaker 1: lot of 10-0s and a lot of 9-1s last week,
- 36:30Speaker 1: including me. Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest is brought to
- 36:34Speaker 1: you by Chad Jones Law and Zorneman Flooring. It is
- 36:38Speaker 1: America's most loved football pick-em contest since the late 50s.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Please no wagering. Get online. Make your picks until 5 p.m.
- 36:48Speaker 1: on Friday. I know it's instantaneous.
- 36:52Speaker 7: I just made my picks.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I went back and changed two picks. Yesterday.
- 36:57Speaker 7: Why don't you have the College Station Cougars with the
- 37:00Speaker 7: first place Killeen Kangaroos? The first place Killeen Kangaroos.
- 37:06Speaker 1: I just, I try to do the best I can
- 37:10Speaker 1: with the local teams, kind of alternating. They're not any good.
- 37:15Speaker 7: Who is it?
- 37:16Speaker 1: Killeen.
- 37:17Speaker 7: How do you know that?
- 37:18Speaker 1: I just know. I don't even follow high school football
- 37:21Speaker 1: and I know.
- 37:22Speaker 7: You had to pick them for C's?
- 37:24Speaker 1: No, he didn't have that game on.
- 37:25Speaker 13: Why not?
- 37:27Speaker 7: It's first place.
- 37:27Speaker 1: Because it's a beatdown, and everybody knows it's a beatdown.
- 37:31Speaker 8: Come on.
- 37:31Speaker 1: So we didn't put that on there.
- 37:35Speaker 7: How are you with Cease?
- 37:37Speaker 1: I am in third place.
- 37:38Speaker 7: Oh, I had a bad week last week. What about
- 37:40Speaker 7: the Green Dot?
- 37:41Speaker 1: Green Dot, thank you. The green dot.
- 37:44Speaker 7: Can I explain what the green dot is first?
- 37:46Speaker 1: If you do it well.
- 37:47Speaker 7: Okay. If you go to Kroger and you go to
- 37:50Speaker 7: the check cashing center, they have a credit card there
- 37:53Speaker 7: that is a pay it into it. It's called the
- 37:56Speaker 7: green dot credit card. So there you go. That's what
- 37:59Speaker 7: the green dot is.
- 38:00Speaker 1: No, you're wrong.
- 38:01Speaker 7: No, I am right.
- 38:02Speaker 1: Oh, you may be right, but not in this iteration.
- 38:06Speaker 1: There's lots of green dots around. The green dot is
- 38:10Speaker 1: a physical green dot that is on the helmet of
- 38:15Speaker 1: the quarterback, generally speaking, and generally speaking, either a linebacker
- 38:21Speaker 1: or a safety on the defense. That means... That there
- 38:25Speaker 1: can be communication between the bench and the player on
- 38:29Speaker 1: the field in his helmet like they do in the NFL.
- 38:32Speaker 7: Why do they do that in the NFL?
- 38:34Speaker 1: But only the first up until 15 seconds are left.
- 38:40Speaker 1: In the play clock. At the 15 second mark, it's
- 38:43Speaker 1: automatically turned off. And so there's no more communication.
- 38:47Speaker 7: What if the president's there?
- 38:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that will screw up the green dot communication. But
- 38:52Speaker 1: last week.
- 38:53Speaker 7: Because where's the president this year?
- 38:54Speaker 1: That became a deal, right?
- 38:56Speaker 7: Where's the president this week?
- 38:58Speaker 1: I don't think he's going because of the weather. I
- 39:00Speaker 1: think he's not probably going to.
- 39:03Speaker 7: Go to the Alabama-Georgia game.
- 39:05Speaker 1: No, he's coming to Texas-Oklahoma.
- 39:07Speaker 7: No, he's going to put plywood up on his Florida properties.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Yeah, he probably is. He's probably going to be out
- 39:12Speaker 1: there helping the people. He's going to be a long
- 39:15Speaker 1: way from that. It's not going to hurt his Florida property.
- 39:19Speaker 1: It's not coming to Mar-a-Lago. Where was I? Green Dot.
- 39:22Speaker 1: So that's the Green Dot guy. If you hear about
- 39:26Speaker 1: the Green Dot guy, and you can look on the
- 39:29Speaker 1: field and see it physically on the helmet.
- 39:32Speaker 8: And.
- 39:33Speaker 1: There can only be one on the field at the
- 39:35Speaker 1: same time, but there are other green dots because they
- 39:38Speaker 1: will substitute, obviously. I'm talking about defense. Offensively, it's just
- 39:45Speaker 1: almost exclusively the quarterback.
- 39:47Speaker 7: But if you go goal line and you put both
- 39:50Speaker 7: your middle linebackers in there.
- 39:52Speaker 1: They'll have to have a different helmet.
- 39:53Speaker 7: But what I'm saying is.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Oh, with green dots?
- 39:55Speaker 7: With the green dots.
- 39:56Speaker 1: They'll have to have another helmet. I don't think you
- 39:58Speaker 1: can have two green dots on the field at the
- 40:00Speaker 1: same time.
- 40:01Speaker 7: Have you even thought about that?
- 40:04Speaker 1: No, because I don't spend a lot of time thinking
- 40:06Speaker 1: about stuff like that. But I do know that. You
- 40:10Speaker 1: can only have one green dotted helmet on the field.
- 40:13Speaker 1: So you have a couple of different helmets if you're
- 40:15Speaker 1: putting players in or out. So that's how that works.
- 40:18Speaker 7: What about in punt?
- 40:21Speaker 1: Punt team? Again, one green dot.
- 40:24Speaker 7: Okay. Just one. So you could have three green dots.
- 40:27Speaker 1: You could, you know, I guess. Yeah, you could have.
- 40:30Speaker 7: Because I don't think extra point and field goal that
- 40:32Speaker 7: you're going to have a green dot.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Probably not. But you could, I guess.
- 40:38Speaker 7: I bet you they don't in special teams.
- 40:41Speaker 1: I need to check on that.
- 40:42Speaker 7: Because when the Aggies sniffed out the fake punt. versus
- 40:50Speaker 7: Arizona State.
- 40:51Speaker 1: That's a horrible fake pun.
- 40:52Speaker 7: It was the players that said that they noticed the
- 40:55Speaker 7: keys there. It wasn't that, hey, we got a call
- 40:58Speaker 7: from the sidelines saying they were going to that.
- 41:01Speaker 1: The NFL does not use a green dot on special teams. Okay,
- 41:04Speaker 1: how about college football? I don't care about the NFL, actually. Okay,
- 41:09Speaker 1: we're going to take a break.
- 41:13Speaker 15: Yes?
- 41:13Speaker 8: No.
- 41:14Speaker 1: They don't use it either on special teams. There you go.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Everything you'd always want to know about the Green Dot.

- 41:58Speaker 12: The Houston Texans are evaluating the roster heading into week
- 42:01Speaker 12: five after four straight losses. The tight end position has
- 42:04Speaker 12: been interesting with Dalton Schultz leading the position for Houston,
- 42:07Speaker 12: but with room for improvement with only two receptions for
- 42:09Speaker 12: nine yards against Dallas. Making his return against the Cowboys
- 42:12Speaker 12: was Brevin Jordan, one of the backup tight ends, who
- 42:14Speaker 12: might bring some energy to the offense if given the chance.
- 42:17Speaker 12: Here's Jordan with Texans Radio on how he looks to
- 42:20Speaker 12: impact the team after returning from injury.
- 42:22Speaker 13: Yeah, I definitely feel faster, stronger, bigger.
- 42:25Speaker 16: But our offense, Training staff and our RTF team that
- 42:29Speaker 16: we have here is top tier.
- 42:31Speaker 1: RTF is return to field.
- 42:32Speaker 13: Return to football, yeah. Return to football. Yeah, top tier, bro.
- 42:35Speaker 16: And so that process of me being out the last
- 42:38Speaker 16: two years, bro, it just prepared me to go out
- 42:41Speaker 16: and not really miss a beat, not look like I've
- 42:43Speaker 16: been out for two years.
- 42:44Speaker 13: You know what I mean? Not skip a beat. We
- 42:47Speaker 13: work hard. Anybody in that RTF team works hard.
- 42:50Speaker 12: Keep an eye on the Titans as the Texans face
- 42:52Speaker 12: the Titans in Nashville on Sunday at noon. With your

- 43:54Speaker 1: Principal Office, Dallas, Texas. Okay, so there's stuff coming up
- 43:59Speaker 1: with MSC Opus. Tonight's the 7th, right?
- 44:02Speaker 8: Yes.
- 44:03Speaker 1: So tonight, Phil Collins' story at MSC Opus.
- 44:08Speaker 7: Phil Collins is here? Phil Collins is here?
- 44:11Speaker 1: He is not. It's the Phil Collins story. It's the
- 44:15Speaker 1: same team that brought us the Simon and Garfunkel story
- 44:18Speaker 1: last year.
- 44:19Speaker 7: But Chip, who could tell your story other than you?
- 44:24Speaker 1: I think this is something that he authorized. They wouldn't
- 44:30Speaker 1: be doing it otherwise.
- 44:31Speaker 7: What's his name? John Boy could tell your story.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It's going to be great music. I'm just telling you.
- 44:36Speaker 1: That's tonight. It's at the auditorium. You can call the
- 44:41Speaker 1: box office right now. at 845-1234, 845-1234, or go online
- 44:48Speaker 1: at opustickets.org. Also, if you want to go to the
- 44:53Speaker 1: box office at Rudder, people will turn in tickets for
- 44:58Speaker 1: other people to use if they can't use them. That's
- 45:02Speaker 1: just a little trick. Otherwise, go online at opustickets.org. On
- 45:10Speaker 1: Sports Talk, I have a story about a couple whose
- 45:12Speaker 1: dog died saving their lives from a bear attack. We're
- 45:16Speaker 1: devastated by what happened while still, listen to me, respecting
- 45:19Speaker 1: the wild animals that belong in these places. These are Californians, people.
- 45:24Speaker 1: There is nothing we can do to change their mind.
- 45:27Speaker 1: They're on the left coast where animals are valued more
- 45:31Speaker 1: than people. Get them right. before they get you the
- 45:35Speaker 1: clark eisenhower outdoor show thursdays at five on the zone.
- 45:38Speaker 23: Shotgun willie sits around in his underwear.
- 45:55Speaker 4: Biting on a bullet.
- 45:56Speaker 23: Pulling out all of his hair A shotgun, Willie's got
- 46:02Speaker 23: all of his family there.
- 46:07Speaker 5: Well, you can't make a record if you ain't got
- 46:10Speaker 5: nothing to say.
- 46:11Speaker 1: This was Willie's first album produced by Atlantic. And they
- 46:16Speaker 1: did it in New York. And it was Willie's sister
- 46:22Speaker 1: Bobby's first ever plane ride to go to New York.
- 46:27Speaker 1: She had just moved to Austin because Willie said, hey,
- 46:32Speaker 1: We're going to be based here, and we're going to
- 46:34Speaker 1: play our music. And they went up to New York
- 46:38Speaker 1: City and did Shotgun Willie.
- 46:45Speaker 7: What did Leon Russell play on that?
- 46:48Speaker 1: I don't know if he played on that one. I
- 46:51Speaker 1: don't know if he played on that album.
- 46:53Speaker 7: You know that Thursday, it's... When animals attack, get them
- 46:59Speaker 7: before they get you.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I do know that.
- 47:01Speaker 7: You know what Leon Russell would have said?
- 47:04Speaker 1: What would he have said?
- 47:05Speaker 7: He would have said, get the weed before the weed
- 47:07Speaker 7: gets you.
- 47:08Speaker 9: Oh, really?
- 47:09Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I hadn't heard that. I like it, though. I don't
- 47:16Speaker 1: think Leon Russell played on that album. And then he
- 47:22Speaker 1: came back and recorded phases and stages after that. And
- 47:27Speaker 1: after Shotgun Willie, people started taking notice. And after Phases
- 47:32Speaker 1: and Stages, people really took notice. And some will say
- 47:35Speaker 1: that's still the best album he ever made. It's certainly
- 47:39Speaker 1: in the top five. And when John Spong and all
- 47:42Speaker 1: of the group out of Texas Monthly ranked Willie's 100 albums,
- 47:48Speaker 1: I believe Phases and Stages may have been number one. Okay,
- 47:54Speaker 1: enough of that. I started to say that's not why
- 47:58Speaker 1: you're here, but it is why you're here. Because you
- 48:00Speaker 1: learn about stuff.
- 48:01Speaker 7: Oh, I thought you were talking about me.
- 48:03Speaker 1: No, you know stuff. But I'm wrong. But some people listening,
- 48:07Speaker 1: sometimes you are.
- 48:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Sometimes I am. Not often, but sometimes.
- 48:12Speaker 7: Okay.
- 48:13Speaker 1: I want to mention again that the interview that we
- 48:18Speaker 1: played yesterday with Coach Fran from two years ago is
- 48:22Speaker 1: up on our website. It's up on the podcast from
- 48:25Speaker 1: yesterday's show. from the date, and it's on our interview
- 48:30Speaker 1: page as well. And it turned out to be a
- 48:35Speaker 1: really good interview. I had forgotten how good, quite frankly,
- 48:38Speaker 1: until I played it yesterday. And Coach Fran was very open, which,
- 48:46Speaker 1: you know, you don't hear that when you say Coach Fran.
- 48:49Speaker 1: You don't say, oh, you know, he's going to tell
- 48:52Speaker 1: you everything about his life and be open about things.
- 48:55Speaker 8: Wow.
- 48:57Speaker 1: He was extremely open about almost everything. And it was
- 49:02Speaker 1: a really good interview, if I say so myself. And
- 49:06Speaker 1: it was him. I'm not saying I did a great job,
- 49:09Speaker 1: but he was really, really good.
- 49:12Speaker 7: Do you have my Rock, Paper, Scissor world champion interview
- 49:16Speaker 7: somewhere so you can get an interview?
- 49:18Speaker 1: That's a good question.
- 49:19Speaker 7: When it's me and Dusty and not him?
- 49:25Speaker 1: I don't remember that. Oh, I remember you doing that.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I remember doing Rock, Paper, Scissor, too.
- 49:31Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And I remember the wife-carrying championship over in England. We
- 49:35Speaker 1: did that one a couple of times.
- 49:37Speaker 7: I remember Anna Kournikova in Houston.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Beautiful Anna.
- 49:44Speaker 7: And I still didn't have eyes for her.
- 49:47Speaker 1: I used to have an autograph.
- 49:48Speaker 7: Because Chris Everett was right there. I didn't even notice
- 49:51Speaker 7: the other blonde sitting up there with her.
- 49:52Speaker 8: No, no, no, no.
- 49:53Speaker 1: She was the one.
- 49:55Speaker 7: No, no.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Yeah, she was the one.
- 49:56Speaker 7: Chris was the one.
- 49:58Speaker 8: Okay.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Every time I go to Miami, I wave to Anna
- 50:03Speaker 1: at her high-rise penthouse there on the water.
- 50:06Speaker 7: Leon Russell contributed two songs to Willie Nelson's landmark 1973 album,
- 50:13Speaker 7: Shotgun Willie.
- 50:14Speaker 13: Okay.
- 50:14Speaker 7: You Look Like the Devil and A Song for You.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. A Song for You is on there.
- 50:21Speaker 1: And they did several iterations of that and obviously played
- 50:27Speaker 1: together that song.
- 50:28Speaker 8: Yes.
- 50:29Speaker 7: Nice.
- 50:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:30Speaker 7: So maybe we'll play You Look Like the Devil, track
- 50:33Speaker 7: 10 on Shotgun Willie today.
- 50:34Speaker 8: Okay.
- 50:35Speaker 1: We can do that. We're going to play that. And
- 50:36Speaker 1: we're going to play a song for you, too, because
- 50:38Speaker 1: I love that song.
- 50:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Did he? Leon wrote that song.
- 50:42Speaker 8: Yes.
- 50:42Speaker 7: He wrote both of those songs.
- 50:43Speaker 8: Yes. Okay.
- 50:45Speaker 1: All right. So we're going to play both those songs.
- 50:47Speaker 8: Great.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Good job. Good job. I did not know that. I
- 50:51Speaker 1: knew he was on a lot of albums. I didn't
- 50:53Speaker 1: know it was one of them. I didn't know that. Okay.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Where do you want to start?
- 51:00Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 51:00Speaker 1: We've got a lot going on.
- 51:02Speaker 7: White Sox are not going to sweep everybody winning the
- 51:05Speaker 7: World Series this year.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Probably not. They're down 5-2 right now in the fifth inning.
- 51:10Speaker 8: Uh-huh.
- 51:11Speaker 1: And, you know, I tell you, these managers, they're managing
- 51:18Speaker 1: every game like it's Game 7. And I know in
- 51:20Speaker 1: a five-game series, especially a three-game series. But, man, these starters...
- 51:25Speaker 1: They don't have a leash at all. You talk about
- 51:27Speaker 1: short leash, this is no leash. Like, they are just changing,
- 51:31Speaker 1: unless you're Yamamoto, they're just changing pitchers. Oh, man. It's
- 51:37Speaker 1: spectacular again. Did you watch any of that game last night?
- 51:40Speaker 8: Yes.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Good gosh. He's pretty good.
- 51:42Speaker 7: But why did they pull Chris Sam?
- 51:45Speaker 1: I don't know. He had thrown a lot of pitches.
- 51:47Speaker 8: Okay.
- 51:47Speaker 1: He had thrown a lot of pitches. He had thrown...
- 51:51Speaker 1: He had thrown... And the inning wasn't over. I had
- 51:54Speaker 1: to go to dinner last night, and I left. He
- 51:57Speaker 1: had already thrown 58 pitches in the third inning. So
- 52:01Speaker 1: that's why they pulled Chris Sale. I mean, he had
- 52:04Speaker 1: struck out six batters.
- 52:06Speaker 7: Through too many strikes.
- 52:08Speaker 1: Too many strikes.
- 52:10Speaker 7: Strikeouts are fascist. Throw some ground balls. Get everybody involved.
- 52:14Speaker 1: There you go. I like that. That's from Bull Durham.
- 52:19Speaker 8: Yes, it is. Thank you.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the game's been good. You know, when
- 52:26Speaker 1: you don't have a dog.
- 52:27Speaker 7: Yeah, because the Jenkies are going to lose.
- 52:28Speaker 1: They are going to lose. When you don't have a
- 52:30Speaker 1: dog in the fight, it's just not nearly as exciting.
- 52:33Speaker 7: No, it's good to see the Jenkies lose.
- 52:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 52:35Speaker 7: By the way.
- 52:36Speaker 1: You can root for people to lose.
- 52:37Speaker 7: You do know the rules are going to change next year.
- 52:39Speaker 1: How so?
- 52:40Speaker 7: Well, they're not going to have Boston and the Jenkies
- 52:43Speaker 7: play in a wild card game.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Oh, they're changing the rules because they played like that?
- 52:47Speaker 7: Oh, yeah. They'd much rather have.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Seven games, Boston and New York.
- 52:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 52:52Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:53Speaker 7: Because quite frankly, Chip.
- 52:55Speaker 1: We may not be playing baseball next year.
- 52:57Speaker 7: Yeah, that's true, too. But quite frankly, if the Astros
- 53:01Speaker 7: in 2017 hadn't beat the Red Sox, the Yankees, and
- 53:03Speaker 7: the Dodgers, if they'd beaten the A's, the Indians, and.
- 53:10Speaker 1: White Sox.
- 53:11Speaker 7: No, no, it had to be a National League team.
- 53:12Speaker 7: The Brewers.
- 53:13Speaker 1: Oh, the National League team, yeah.
- 53:14Speaker 7: Nobody in baseball would have cared. I'm saying Major League
- 53:17Speaker 7: Baseball itself would not have cared. But you embarrass those
- 53:21Speaker 7: kind of teams. You don't get the Yankees and the
- 53:24Speaker 7: Red Sox playing each other and the ALCS and then
- 53:28Speaker 7: one of them playing the Dodgers.
- 53:29Speaker 1: The Dodgers and the Padres. Yeah, yeah.
- 53:31Speaker 7: I mean, that's what they want.
- 53:35Speaker 1: Of course.
- 53:36Speaker 7: They don't want the Brewers to win.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Of course they don't for so many reasons.
- 53:40Speaker 7: They don't want the White Sox to win.
- 53:41Speaker 1: The biggest reason is TV.
- 53:43Speaker 17: Yes.
- 53:43Speaker 1: People aren't going to watch. They're not going to watch
- 53:47Speaker 1: the Brewers and the White Sox play in the World Series.
- 53:49Speaker 1: You and I would. Well, of course we are.
- 53:51Speaker 7: I'd watch that more than I'd watch the Dodgers and
- 53:53Speaker 7: the Yankees.
- 53:53Speaker 1: I'm a baseball fan.
- 53:54Speaker 7: I did not watch the Dodgers and the Yankees last year.
- 53:56Speaker 13: Why not?
- 53:57Speaker 7: I had not seen Yamamoto.
- 53:59Speaker 1: Two years ago.
- 54:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I had not seen Yamamoto throw a pitch in
- 54:03Speaker 7: the playoffs before last night.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Is that right? Yes. Oh, good gosh.
- 54:08Speaker 7: And he has not pitched against the Astros either. Last
- 54:11Speaker 7: night was the first time.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I ever saw Yamamoto pitch. That is amazing. I mean,
- 54:14Speaker 1: what he did last year in the World Series, unbelievable.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Not only in one start, but coming back in that
- 54:22Speaker 1: game seven, that was spectacular. That game was awesome. As
- 54:28Speaker 1: a baseball, I can't believe you didn't watch that game.
- 54:30Speaker 7: No, I did not.
- 54:31Speaker 1: It was awesome.
- 54:33Speaker 7: My Toronto, why mess with the best? My Toronto World
- 54:39Speaker 7: Series is Joe Carter walking it off. There ain't no
- 54:44Speaker 7: reason to watch another Toronto World Series.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Well, you may never have that chance again.
- 54:50Speaker 7: I mean, I got to see Mitch the Wild Thing
- 54:53Speaker 7: melt down, Joe Carter walk it off. How does it
- 54:56Speaker 7: get any better than that?
- 54:58Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, that was a phenomenal game seven.
- 55:03Speaker 1: All right. Scott Clendenin is with us for a Wednesday.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Mallory is here at the bottom of the second hour
- 55:11Speaker 1: with some entertainment news. I want to send you over
- 55:14Speaker 1: to David Gardner's because if you haven't been to that
- 55:16Speaker 1: new store, well, the remodeled store, OMG, it's exactly what
- 55:23Speaker 1: you would expect from David Gardner. And with so much
- 55:29Speaker 1: more room, so many more cases, so many more choices.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Marco Bejigo is back. David Yurman is back. You know,
- 55:38Speaker 1: with every David Gardner purchase, you get two-day free shipping,
- 55:43Speaker 1: complimentary gift wrapping, and, you know, my wife's wedding ring
- 55:51Speaker 1: got messed up, and so David's going to have to
- 55:54Speaker 1: fix that. They do that work, you know, and They
- 55:59Speaker 1: are paying homage to Texas A & M University's 150th
- 56:05Speaker 1: anniversary with all kinds of specially engineered and created kinds
- 56:13Speaker 1: of jewelry. Necklaces, pendants, bracelets. It's just, you've got to
- 56:22Speaker 1: go in and see some of what they have created
- 56:26Speaker 1: over there at David Gardner's. The magazine's coming out soon,
