- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken, it's your dose of the
- 0:04Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kate Torber and coming up on today's show, Sophie Keisha
- 0:11Speaker 1: puts her makeup business on the market, Karina Irby is
- 0:14Speaker 1: kicked out of a cafe mid-photo shoot and would you
- 0:17Speaker 1: give up your wedding venue for David Beckham?
- 0:20Speaker 2: But first, Olivia Rogers has.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Split her audience down the middle when she asked them
- 0:25Speaker 1: to help her settle a debate. So she put up
- 0:28Speaker 1: a poll asking whether peanut butter is sweet or savoury.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The poll proved not to help at all with the
- 0:34Speaker 1: votes being split 50-50. So I want to know, what
- 0:38Speaker 1: do you guys think? Is it sweet or savoury? I'd
- 0:40Speaker 1: say it's savoury. I always have peanut butter on toast.
- 0:43Speaker 1: To me, that's savoury. I think when you look at
- 0:46Speaker 1: your toppings, you kind of group together peanut butter and Vegemite.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Those two are savoury, while your jams and your honeys,
- 0:54Speaker 1: those are your sweet options. It is interesting though, because
- 0:57Speaker 1: peanut butter is an ingredient in a lot of healthy
- 1:00Speaker 1: desserts and also in smoothie bowls, which would be considered sweet.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But I look at it as that kind of clash
- 1:07Speaker 1: between sweet and savoury. You know, if you have a
- 1:10Speaker 1: pizza with Nutella and add some salt, I think it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: one of those flavour combinations.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, but peanut butter doesn't have sugar in it. So
- 1:16Speaker 2: to me, it's savoury.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I mean, nuts are a savoury snack. So
- 1:20Speaker 1: that's why I think as a standalone, Peanut butter is 100%
- 1:23Speaker 1: a savoury item.
- 1:25Speaker 2: What did Olivia think?
- 1:27Speaker 1: She didn't actually say what she thought, but I feel
- 1:29Speaker 1: like she was trying to sway her audience because she
- 1:31Speaker 1: shared a photo of squirty peanut butter on top.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Of a smoothie bowl.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I think she's actually just only discovered squirty peanut butter.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I discovered it over a year ago and I'm obsessed.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Do you have squirty Vegemite as well? Does it come
- 1:44Speaker 2: in a squirt bottle?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, no.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I don't think squirt Vegemite would be good because. He's
- 1:50Speaker 2: not saying squirt.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I don't think the squirty Vegemite would be good because
- 1:54Speaker 1: Vegemite you have to apply like a tiny bit.
- 1:56Speaker 2: You've got to scrape off. I think. the user control
- 1:59Speaker 2: of it would not be great. Squirty Nutella. No, that's dangerous.
- 2:03Speaker 2: That'd be dangerous in my household.
- 2:05Speaker 1: For my first Valentine's Day with my partner, he bought
- 2:08Speaker 1: me a five kilogram tub of Nutella. And I thought
- 2:12Speaker 1: it'd be great because I always get the shit paid
- 2:14Speaker 1: out of me for eating Nutella with a spoon. Like
- 2:16Speaker 1: I'd go and get a little snack of Nutella. But
- 2:18Speaker 1: this thing, because of so much of it, it went
- 2:21Speaker 1: moldy so quickly and all the oil would form like
- 2:25Speaker 1: around it.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And anyway, it was an absolute nightmare.
- 2:29Speaker 3: How's this for a change of events? We just got
- 2:31Speaker 3: kicked out of a local cafe.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Influencer and bikini mogul Karina Irby was recently kicked out
- 2:37Speaker 1: of a cafe for using the venue as a backdrop
- 2:40Speaker 1: for her.
- 2:40Speaker 3: Brand's latest activewear shoot.
- 2:42Speaker 1: When I heard Karina say that she was taking some
- 2:45Speaker 1: photos for Instagram, it gave me the impression that maybe
- 2:48Speaker 1: one of her friends was snapping some casual shots of
- 2:50Speaker 1: her on her phone. However, this was a full-blown shoot
- 2:54Speaker 1: for her activewear brand, which is called.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Moana Smile Club.
- 2:57Speaker 1: So Karina had two other models posing alongside her, and
- 3:00Speaker 1: she had employed a professional photographer for the campaign. Now,
- 3:05Speaker 1: after Karina got asked to leave the cafe, she and
- 3:07Speaker 1: her team proceeded to take photos on the street in
- 3:10Speaker 1: front of some very aesthetically pleasing houses. when a neighbor
- 3:13Speaker 1: across the road offered them to use their courtyard and
- 3:16Speaker 1: pool as a set. Karina said she was shocked by
- 3:19Speaker 1: the act of kindness, particularly after they were kicked out
- 3:22Speaker 1: of the cafe.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Here's what she said.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I just think it's so crazy how kindness is just
- 3:28Speaker 1: so shocking.
- 3:29Speaker 3: People that are kind truly just shock me.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But when people are nasty or they just want things
- 3:34Speaker 1: from you and stuff like that, you're like, you're not shocked.
- 3:37Speaker 1: But then when people are kind, you're like, Now, the
- 3:40Speaker 1: kind acts continued when an ice cream van spotted the
- 3:43Speaker 1: girls shooting and stopped to give them free ice creams.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And as a thank you and a subtle dig at
- 3:48Speaker 1: the cafe, Karina and the models posed in front of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the ice cream van and Karina even gave them a
- 3:54Speaker 1: shout out to her 1.1 million followers. So she tagged
- 3:57Speaker 1: the ice cream van socials and wrote, we captured this
- 4:00Speaker 1: because of your kindness and generosity. Thank you for spotting
- 4:03Speaker 1: us and letting us strike a pose with your business.
- 4:05Speaker 1: The ice cream and chocolates were so delicious. They then
- 4:08Speaker 1: wrapped up the shoot with some final snaps at a
- 4:10Speaker 1: cafe who allowed them to be there with the drink
- 4:13Speaker 1: of the moment, which is of course a strawberry matcha.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I don't understand the shade that Karina is throwing to
- 4:18Speaker 1: this cafe because firstly, it's not just a casual Instagram
- 4:23Speaker 1: shoot as you said, Sophie. This was for her activewear
- 4:26Speaker 1: campaign where she is profiting from. Surely the most respectful
- 4:29Speaker 1: thing to do is to ring the cafe beforehand and
- 4:31Speaker 1: ask if it's okay to take photos.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Because normally a.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Venue would charge for this type of activity.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Normally you'd have to rent out a studio or maybe
- 4:38Speaker 2: a house.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'm in two minds though, because I can see where
- 4:41Speaker 1: you're coming from, Kate. But also on the other hand,
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think that this is a missed opportunity for promotion
- 4:47Speaker 1: because she does have 1.1 million followers. So if the
- 4:50Speaker 1: cafe owners had been kind and accommodating to her like.
- 4:52Speaker 3: The ice cream van was, she could have given them
- 4:55Speaker 3: a shout out.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, but just because you have 1.1 million followers doesn't
- 4:58Speaker 1: mean you can just walk into a small cafe and
- 5:01Speaker 1: With a photographer in flash and interrupt all of the
- 5:04Speaker 1: other people dining there.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Well, that's the thing.
- 5:06Speaker 1: If she'd actually approached the cafe ahead of time or
- 5:08Speaker 1: the photographer had, they could have said, okay, we'll work
- 5:11Speaker 1: out a time when we're a little bit quieter so
- 5:13Speaker 1: we can accommodate what you need and charged her potentially. Also,
- 5:17Speaker 1: that is just the way that the influencer world works.
- 5:20Speaker 1: She may have a million followers, but not everyone is
- 5:22Speaker 1: going to know who she is, particularly if she hasn't
- 5:24Speaker 1: communicated what's going on.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Also, I think she only gave the ice cream van
- 5:28Speaker 2: a shout out as a bit of a spiteful move
- 5:31Speaker 2: towards the cafe.
- 5:31Speaker 1: I can see how this would be really disruptive for
- 5:34Speaker 1: the cafe because if you're already a diner there and
- 5:38Speaker 1: you see this shoot unfolding, you're probably going to want
- 5:40Speaker 1: to wrap up your conversation with a friend and go
- 5:43Speaker 1: somewhere else. And also, if I'm walking along selecting a
- 5:45Speaker 1: cafe to go to, I would be very put off
- 5:48Speaker 1: because I wouldn't want to be in.
- 5:49Speaker 3: The background of this. I just want to sit down
- 5:51Speaker 3: and enjoy myself.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Good people watching though. Well, yeah, maybe just sit at the.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Other cafe across from them so you don't have to
- 5:56Speaker 3: hear it.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Also, what's the protocol for Karina in terms of ordering food? Like,
- 6:00Speaker 1: Was she just nursing a coffee and then thinking that
- 6:03Speaker 1: she could do this whole photo shoot? Or was the
- 6:05Speaker 1: food a part of.
- 6:06Speaker 3: The photo shoot?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Is this giving me flashbacks to your baby sprinkle, Kate?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Because I brought my camera along to take some photos
- 6:12Speaker 1: and it was quite a dark venue and I did
- 6:13Speaker 1: have the flash on and I felt a little bit
- 6:15Speaker 1: judged by the people sitting near us. Yeah, but there's
- 6:17Speaker 1: a difference between taking some social photos and taking some
- 6:20Speaker 1: pictures for a full-blown campaign where you're selling an activewear brand.
- 6:24Speaker 1: I do like the fact that she didn't actually name
- 6:27Speaker 1: the cafe though, because, you know, we touched on last
- 6:29Speaker 1: week how it can be very detrimental for a small
- 6:31Speaker 1: business to be named in shame like this. I'm just
- 6:33Speaker 1: having secondhand embarrassment at the thought of the cafe, you know,
- 6:37Speaker 1: waitress coming up and being like, I'm sorry, you actually
- 6:39Speaker 1: can't take these photos in here. It does remind me
- 6:43Speaker 1: of the Kalal Hotel stance on influencers because they do
- 6:46Speaker 1: have a contract that all guests have to sign saying
- 6:49Speaker 1: that they're not allowed to use the very aesthetically pleasing
- 6:52Speaker 1: hotel as a backdrop for any paid promotions or product shoots.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I think it's fair enough considering our conversation earlier in
- 6:59Speaker 1: the week about that cafe that charged a dollar to
- 7:02Speaker 1: heat up a muffin. And we did have some cafe
- 7:04Speaker 1: owners come out on social media and explain that they
- 7:07Speaker 1: are really feeling the pressure of the cost of living crisis,
- 7:10Speaker 1: just like everyone else is. And I do think it's
- 7:13Speaker 1: unfair to expect this cafe to provide a free background
- 7:16Speaker 1: for your photo shoot. Surely Karina would have had some
- 7:19Speaker 1: money in the budget to actually pay them.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Azuru announcement.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Like I said, we have taken the Instagram and the
- 7:27Speaker 1: website down currently. Sophie Keisha has revealed she's selling her
- 7:31Speaker 1: gender neutral makeup brand Azuru. Speculation was rife that the
- 7:35Speaker 1: business was under liquidation after its website and Instagram account vanished.
- 7:40Speaker 1: In recent months, the brand has also been putting bundled
- 7:42Speaker 1: products on sale. Now, in an interview with the Herald Sun,
- 7:46Speaker 1: Sophie confirmed the news saying, myself and my business partner
- 7:50Speaker 1: simply cannot give it the love it deserves as we
- 7:53Speaker 1: both own other companies that occupy most of our time.
- 7:56Speaker 2: So we wanted to go to someone who can help
- 7:58Speaker 2: it thrive.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Now, Sophie really did use this interview as an opportunity
- 8:03Speaker 1: to try and spruik the business saying it was a
- 8:05Speaker 1: brilliant ready-to-go startup with stock, direct manufacturing relationships, operations and equipment. However,
- 8:12Speaker 1: she said that they'll be selective of who they sell
- 8:15Speaker 1: it to as it's one of her babies. She also
- 8:18Speaker 1: revealed that she'll be sending the brand off in style
- 8:21Speaker 1: with a sale, which seems to contradict how she's trying
- 8:26Speaker 1: to say this is such a wonderful opportunity for someone.
- 8:29Speaker 1: If anything, it sounds like you're trying to get rid
- 8:31Speaker 1: of old stock because no one wants it. And also
- 8:33Speaker 1: to say that you're going to be selective of who
- 8:34Speaker 1: you sell it to. I think you'd be lucky for
- 8:36Speaker 1: anyone to buy it. So maybe that's just an excuse.
- 8:39Speaker 1: if no one actually does end up buying it. It
- 8:42Speaker 1: is interesting that Sophie didn't refer to her business partner
- 8:45Speaker 1: by name. So Sophie originally launched Azuru over two years
- 8:49Speaker 1: ago with controversial influencer and Slick Hair founder Mia Plesic.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And things turned south very quickly in August 2022 when
- 8:57Speaker 1: it became obvious that the pair were feuding. So it
- 9:01Speaker 1: all started when Sophie announced Azuru was a one-woman show.
- 9:05Speaker 1: After Mia Plesic received backlash for publicly equating vaccine mandate
- 9:09Speaker 1: laws to abortion laws. Now at this point, it was
- 9:13Speaker 1: believed that Mia was no longer involved with the beauty brand.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So she removed Azuru from her Instagram bio and also
- 9:20Speaker 1: unfollowed the Instagram account. Someone also ended up leaking a
- 9:24Speaker 1: DM where they asked the brand if Mia was still involved.
- 9:27Speaker 1: And the account replied confirming that Mia was no longer
- 9:30Speaker 1: connected to Azuru. She did contradict these claims, though, because
- 9:35Speaker 1: she released a statement to the Daily Mail Australia saying
- 9:38Speaker 1: she was still a director of the company and an
- 9:41Speaker 1: equal shareholder to Sophie. So she said, I just took
- 9:44Speaker 1: a step back as Slick Hair Company is going through
- 9:47Speaker 1: huge international growth. And I need to focus on the
- 9:50Speaker 1: brand that is growing.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Bit of a humble brag there.
- 9:53Speaker 1: But it's also putting down Azuru because it's implying that
- 9:56Speaker 1: that's not growing.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I mean, the downfall of this business, it's really come
- 10:01Speaker 1: as a big surprise because two years ago, it did.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Launch under controversial circumstances.
- 10:06Speaker 1: So firstly, there was the issue of a video of
- 10:09Speaker 1: Sophie wiping her nose whilst handling the products that did
- 10:12Speaker 1: go viral. It also ended up in a bit of
- 10:15Speaker 1: a stash between ourselves and Sophie Keisha, which was quite
- 10:19Speaker 1: a memorable time for the podcast. I feel like we've
- 10:21Speaker 1: been with this business from the start. So it is
- 10:23Speaker 1: ironic that we are talking about its closure. Now it
- 10:25Speaker 1: does appear that Mia must still be a part owner
- 10:28Speaker 1: of this business because Sophie did reference that both of
- 10:31Speaker 1: the owners were focusing on their own businesses. Sophie did
- 10:35Speaker 1: want to make it quite clear also that her pajama
- 10:37Speaker 1: brand Keisha was going from strength to strength. And it's
- 10:40Speaker 1: also just celebrated its seventh birthday this weekend. However, in
- 10:44Speaker 1: bad timing on Tuesday, she took to her Instagram story
- 10:48Speaker 1: to complain about interest rates. So she revealed that she
- 10:52Speaker 1: was on the phone to her bank and had spoken
- 10:54Speaker 1: to two people who couldn't help her. She wrote, I'm
- 10:57Speaker 1: so proud of myself being a single mama with a
- 10:59Speaker 1: one salary mortgage, but holy fuck, these interest rates are
- 11:02Speaker 1: starting to take a toll. She then went on to
- 11:04Speaker 1: ask her followers if they had switched from her bank
- 11:07Speaker 1: and who they went to. Now, this is off the
- 11:09Speaker 1: back of a couple of weeks ago, Sophie also sharing
- 11:12Speaker 1: that she had done this bulk meat order and was
- 11:15Speaker 1: cooking up a whole bunch of food to try and
- 11:17Speaker 1: minimize costs. Now, Obviously, there is absolutely nothing wrong with
- 11:21Speaker 1: that because I think we've got this image of influencers
- 11:23Speaker 1: not having to struggle and they're not having to be
- 11:26Speaker 1: in the real world like the rest of us and
- 11:28Speaker 1: compete with interest rates. I think what happens is a
- 11:31Speaker 1: lot of them do start these businesses where there's products
- 11:34Speaker 1: involved and they quickly realize that a lot of the
- 11:36Speaker 1: money they make from the product then goes back into buying.
- 11:39Speaker 2: More of it to sell.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Because we've heard Lily Brown talk about the struggles of
- 11:43Speaker 1: her pajama business as well. having to keep up with
- 11:46Speaker 1: demand and also having to reinvest the money back into stock. Well,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I think it's just showing that the cost of living
- 11:52Speaker 1: is taking a toll on everyone because we do have
- 11:55Speaker 1: to remember, as Sophie pointed out, she is a single
- 11:57Speaker 1: mother with two children and, you know, owning your own business,
- 12:02Speaker 1: it does go in ebbs and flows.
- 12:04Speaker 2: So when Sophie purchased or built her new.
- 12:06Speaker 1: House, she had a partner at the time in Maddie.
- 12:09Speaker 1: So they had a dual income that was paying that mortgage.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And now that Sophie finds herself on her own, She
- 12:15Speaker 1: might be at a different point in her business. She's
- 12:17Speaker 1: finding it very difficult, I assume, being on a variable rate.
- 12:20Speaker 1: And I actually think it's, I take my hat off
- 12:22Speaker 1: to her for actually speaking about it because it's a
- 12:24Speaker 1: situation that so many Australians will be finding themselves in
- 12:28Speaker 1: at the moment. Yeah, I think it's very relatable that
- 12:30Speaker 1: Sophie is opening up about this on her Instagram. I
- 12:33Speaker 1: do wonder if she was a little bit annoyed that
- 12:35Speaker 1: the Herald Sun ran with that story. She obviously provided
- 12:38Speaker 1: a comment saying, But I think that they were going
- 12:40Speaker 1: to run with it anyway. So she felt like she
- 12:41Speaker 1: had to say something about Azuru going on sale. It's
- 12:45Speaker 1: not really the best look because I think she's trying
- 12:47Speaker 1: really hard to promote it as this decision that was
- 12:51Speaker 1: forced upon them because her business, Keisha, and also Mia
- 12:54Speaker 1: Pleszek's business, Slick Hair Company, is doing so well that
- 12:57Speaker 1: they just don't have time. Well, particularly because you're trying
- 12:59Speaker 1: to sell this business. You're trying to make this business
- 13:01Speaker 1: look profitable that someone actually wants to purchase it from you.
- 13:04Speaker 1: But I don't think that's actually the reality. I just
- 13:07Speaker 1: don't think it's been successful from the get-go.
- 13:10Speaker 3: We'd like some wedding invitations. Oh, well, congratulations. Thank you.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you.
- 13:15Speaker 3: When's the wedding?
- 13:16Speaker 1: June. Late June. It appears it's all steam ahead for
- 13:20Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough and Matt Zukowski's wedding. Tammy re-shared a friend's
- 13:24Speaker 1: Instagram story revealing Tammy had sent her what appeared to
- 13:28Speaker 1: be a wedding invite. Now, the envelope looked elegant with
- 13:31Speaker 1: a black bow tied on the back and this ties
- 13:34Speaker 1: into the theme that I have been suspecting for quite
- 13:37Speaker 1: a while now. I think the whole thing will be
- 13:39Speaker 1: a black and white affair. It's very Hills because when
- 13:43Speaker 1: Tammy went to try on wedding dresses and her bridesmaids
- 13:47Speaker 1: were in black and she also, they were in little
- 13:50Speaker 1: black little robes, which I think that they'll be wearing
- 13:52Speaker 1: black bridesmaid dresses and I think that all of the
- 13:55Speaker 1: flowers will be white and it will be that contrast.
- 13:58Speaker 1: I was just surprised to see that the wedding invites
- 14:00Speaker 1: were out, particularly after all the shit that's gone down recently.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I thought they might have put the brakes on it
- 14:04Speaker 1: a little bit. No way because they want to prove
- 14:07Speaker 1: to everyone just how solid they are and they have
- 14:10Speaker 1: also previously said on Matt's podcast that the wedding will
- 14:13Speaker 1: be happening today.
- 14:14Speaker 3: This year.
- 14:15Speaker 1: So, I mean, we are six months into this year already.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So we'll be seeing this wedding very soon.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I can't wait.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Now that Anna's wedding is over, I feel like that's
- 14:23Speaker 1: given them the green light to actually start inviting people.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Surely this wedding must be soon because normally you get
- 14:30Speaker 1: your wedding invites out, I think it's like four months
- 14:32Speaker 1: before the big date. I mean, these possibly could be
- 14:35Speaker 1: a save the date if it is a destination wedding?
- 14:38Speaker 1: I set mine out six months in advance and I
- 14:40Speaker 1: think it was almost too early because I had to
- 14:42Speaker 1: follow up a few people being like, are you coming?
- 14:45Speaker 2: But ours was a long weekend. So I was very
- 14:48Speaker 2: paranoid that people would make plans.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, on the topic of Tammy, it was really
- 14:52Speaker 1: great to see her attend the Gold Coast Suns MND
- 14:55Speaker 1: Big Freeze event. So she was a really good sport
- 14:58Speaker 1: and allowed herself to be dunked into the ice bath.
- 15:01Speaker 1: And she actually shared that a close friend's stepdad sadly
- 15:03Speaker 1: passed away from MND And my favorite part of this
- 15:07Speaker 1: event was seeing Tammy kick a football.
- 15:09Speaker 2: So she was actually.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Quite good, but then she absolutely sprayed one and it
- 15:13Speaker 1: went into like the crowd. Even though Tammy's really athletic,
- 15:17Speaker 1: I'm not surprised that she's not great at kicking a
- 15:19Speaker 1: football because she said that the game on the weekend
- 15:22Speaker 1: was the first football game she's ever been to because
- 15:25Speaker 1: the Gold Coast Suns versus Matt's team, which is Essendon.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And it was really cute because Wolf looked like he
- 15:31Speaker 1: had the best time. So Tammy put up a photo
- 15:33Speaker 1: and said, He actually asked me to take this photo
- 15:36Speaker 1: of him and look how happy he is. So I
- 15:38Speaker 1: think he's enjoying having that male father figure in his
- 15:42Speaker 1: life to take him. Talking about Wolf, Tammy actually shared
- 15:45Speaker 1: this TikTok video the other day where he featured in
- 15:47Speaker 1: it and she was saying for all of the kids
- 15:50Speaker 1: and her to say something that was true about themselves. However,
- 15:53Speaker 1: she kept saying things that weren't true, that she knew
- 15:55Speaker 1: the kids would react to. Anyway, everyone picked up on
- 15:58Speaker 1: the fact that Wolf has a very English accent. Have
- 16:01Speaker 1: you guys noticed it?
- 16:02Speaker 3: He does.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I have noticed it. He talks very proper.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone's like, where has his accent come from? Because
- 16:08Speaker 1: he doesn't sound like any member of the family. Well,
- 16:10Speaker 1: hasn't everyone been saying that in the US and in
- 16:12Speaker 1: the UK that all the kids are getting Aussie accents
- 16:14Speaker 1: because of Bluey? Isn't it the reverse with Peppa Pig
- 16:18Speaker 1: where some of the Aussie kids are getting UK accents?
- 16:21Speaker 2: I wouldn't put him down as a Peppa Pig fan,
- 16:22Speaker 2: to be honest.
- 16:23Speaker 1: No. Does anyone use this kitchen? It looks like it's
- 16:26Speaker 1: never been used. I was cooking here last night.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Dude, it's like... I know.
- 16:31Speaker 2: It's pretty clean because I clean.
- 16:32Speaker 1: It so well. Would you guys give up your wedding
- 16:35Speaker 1: venue for David Beckham? Because this is one dilemma a
- 16:38Speaker 1: couple in the UK is facing. So David is set
- 16:41Speaker 1: to celebrate his 50th birthday next year and he has
- 16:45Speaker 1: fallen in love with iconic Scottish venue, Gleneagles. The snag
- 16:49Speaker 1: is a couple have their dream wedding booked in for
- 16:52Speaker 1: that date. He has a thing about castles, doesn't he?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Because he and Victoria Beckham got married in a castle.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Is he trying to recreate that? Because that was a
- 17:01Speaker 1: very iconic celebration. Surely there's lots of castles available in
- 17:04Speaker 1: the UK that he could be using.
- 17:06Speaker 2: What's so special about this one?
- 17:07Speaker 1: I think it has something to do with the venue
- 17:10Speaker 1: being a golfing destination. So it has won various awards,
- 17:14Speaker 1: including Ultra Travel Magazine's Best Golf Resort in the World.
- 17:18Speaker 2: And David Beckham loves playing golf.
- 17:20Speaker 3: It's a hobby of his.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Well, the rumor is that he has made a huge
- 17:24Speaker 1: offer to this couple. So one of the couple's friends
- 17:27Speaker 1: took to Twitter and said, a friend of a friend
- 17:29Speaker 1: is getting married at Glen Eagles next year, but David
- 17:32Speaker 1: Beckham wants the date for his 50th. So to get
- 17:34Speaker 1: the friend to move it so he can have the hotel,
- 17:37Speaker 1: Glen Eagles are paying for their new wedding date. honeymoon
- 17:40Speaker 1: and paying off the mortgage, the power of Beck. So
- 17:42Speaker 1: a lot of people have come to the assumption that
- 17:44Speaker 1: it's not actually Glen Eagles that are paying off this
- 17:47Speaker 1: couple's mortgage and for their honeymoon.
- 17:49Speaker 2: It's David Beckham.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So Sophie, if you were a year out from your
- 17:52Speaker 1: wedding and David Beckham wanted to steal the venue from you,
- 17:55Speaker 1: what would you do?
- 17:55Speaker 3: I think it would really depend on the next available date.
- 17:58Speaker 1: So if your date has been pushed out by a
- 18:00Speaker 1: couple of weeks, yeah, of course, of course you would
- 18:03Speaker 1: take up this opportunity. Whereas if you this meant that
- 18:07Speaker 1: your wedding wasn't going to be for another year or
- 18:09Speaker 1: two years, I think that that would then become more
- 18:12Speaker 1: of an issue. Do you know what's really important to me?
- 18:14Speaker 1: Having my mortgage paid off and having financial freedom. So
- 18:17Speaker 1: I'd be happy to downsize my wedding in order to
- 18:20Speaker 1: have my mortgage and also my wedding and honeymoon paid for. No,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I mean, I would probably take this opportunity, but I'm
- 18:26Speaker 1: saying for some people, if they've got a special association
- 18:30Speaker 1: with the venue or if there's other reasons for them
- 18:33Speaker 1: wanting to get married straight away, it might be an issue.
- 18:36Speaker 1: But there's so many other wedding venues around the place. Yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but it's hard to get into them. There's not just
- 18:41Speaker 1: dates available. Look, I would make it work. I feel
- 18:44Speaker 1: sorry for the couple who were a week before or
- 18:47Speaker 1: a week after, because I wonder.
- 18:48Speaker 2: If they're like, for fuck's sake, we would have given
- 18:50Speaker 2: it up.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I'd be reaching out to Bex and being like, look,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I know it's not the exact date that you want,
- 18:54Speaker 1: but it's pretty close. I wonder how this couple have responded, because...
- 18:59Speaker 1: He could find himself in a situation where there's an
- 19:02Speaker 1: absolute bridezilla who is not willing to budge for anyone.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Like that is a genuine possibility. And I wonder if...
- 19:11Speaker 1: they have just asked them nicely, hey, do you mind
- 19:14Speaker 1: changing because we've got this big event coming up? And
- 19:16Speaker 1: they are playing hardball and they've heard that David Beckham
- 19:18Speaker 1: is involved and they're trying to take him for all
- 19:20Speaker 1: he's worth. Yeah, what else could they get out of
- 19:22Speaker 1: old Becks? I think I would play, yeah, I think
- 19:24Speaker 1: I'd be like, what else?
- 19:25Speaker 3: What else can I have? The mortgage is pretty good.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I mean, if you look at it from a PR
- 19:29Speaker 1: perspective for David Beckham, this story could have gone one
- 19:33Speaker 1: of two ways.
- 19:34Speaker 3: He had to offer them a lot in order to
- 19:36Speaker 3: get this.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Because If he had just said, oh, look, I'll cover
- 19:40Speaker 1: the cost of your wedding and that's it. People would
- 19:42Speaker 1: have been like, how dare this big celebrity come in
- 19:45Speaker 1: and ruin this couple's wedding day. But because he's also saying,
- 19:49Speaker 1: pay for your honeymoon.
- 19:50Speaker 3: I'll pay for your mortgage, I'll basically set you up
- 19:52Speaker 3: for life.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Everyone's like, wow, look at this Robin Hood who's stealing
- 19:56Speaker 1: the venue, but then he's giving back to the poor.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I'm not sure if he's Robin Hood.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Let's get into our highs and lows of the week.
- 20:05Speaker 1: I will kick us off first. I'll start with my low.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Last week, I wasn't on the podcast and that was
- 20:10Speaker 1: because I was intending to record with you guys, but
- 20:13Speaker 1: I had a bit of a scare at my midwife appointment.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So everything is all good, but essentially I had my
- 20:19Speaker 1: midwife appointment and every appointment they take your blood pressure
- 20:23Speaker 1: and they flagged that mine was a little bit high.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So they checked it a couple more times and were like,
- 20:27Speaker 1: hang on now, I'm sorry, you're going to have to
- 20:29Speaker 1: go up to the observation ward. They ended up doing
- 20:32Speaker 1: a urine test and also a blood test. And they
- 20:35Speaker 1: flagged with me that the protein in my urine was
- 20:38Speaker 1: really high. And that is a sign of preeclampsia. So
- 20:42Speaker 1: I was absolutely freaking out. I'm sitting on a hospital
- 20:46Speaker 1: bed clipped up to this machine that's checking the baby's heart.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And I was trying not to freak out, but I
- 20:53Speaker 1: am the biggest hypochondriac. I'm very health anxious. My partner
- 20:56Speaker 1: was sitting next to me, cool as a cucumber. And
- 20:59Speaker 1: I've just convinced myself that I've got preeclampsia.
- 21:01Speaker 2: I've called you guys. You're all freaking out.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And also because I at the time was 36 and
- 21:08Speaker 1: a half weeks, I thought that they might make me
- 21:11Speaker 1: deliver the baby that day if I did have it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: And in the meantime, Sophie was freaking out because as
- 21:17Speaker 1: some of the listeners might have seen, we held a
- 21:20Speaker 1: surprise baby sprinkle for Kate. And I'm hoping that this
- 21:23Speaker 1: is Kate's heart that she's about to lead into because
- 21:26Speaker 1: I was distraught. I had everything ready to pick up
- 21:29Speaker 1: on the Friday and I was at the shop getting
- 21:31Speaker 1: a balloon blown up for you. And I thought, well,
- 21:34Speaker 1: if the party doesn't go ahead, you'll still need this balloon,
- 21:37Speaker 1: which I literally got shipped in because I couldn't get
- 21:39Speaker 1: this Pooh Bear balloon anywhere.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I had to get it online.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And I was like, well, I can bring it down
- 21:42Speaker 1: to the hospital. We could bring the cake down to
- 21:44Speaker 1: the hospital as more of a celebration of the baby
- 21:46Speaker 1: being here. Yeah. So fortunately, after waiting three hours, I
- 21:51Speaker 1: got the news that in fact, I did not have preeclampsia,
- 21:54Speaker 1: which I am so thankful for. It turned out that
- 21:57Speaker 1: the dipstick that they put in my urine, I don't know,
- 22:00Speaker 1: it flagged it incorrectly.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Anyway, Soph, as you already touched.
- 22:04Speaker 1: On, my high for the week was the surprise baby
- 22:07Speaker 1: sprinkle that you held me. Now we did have a
- 22:09Speaker 1: few people ask because I posted a reel of this
- 22:11Speaker 1: event and someone's like, what is a baby sprinkle? So
- 22:14Speaker 1: it's a celebration that's not as big as a shower
- 22:17Speaker 1: because I did have my own shower. Well, I thought
- 22:19Speaker 1: sprinkle differentiated it between the event that you already had.
- 22:23Speaker 1: To say I was surprised is a complete understatement because
- 22:26Speaker 1: You guys got Rhys involved.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I think it was a week ago.
- 22:29Speaker 1: He said to me, oh, I'd really like to take
- 22:31Speaker 1: you out Saturday night. It's the least I can do
- 22:33Speaker 1: for the nine months that you've been through. And I
- 22:36Speaker 1: was like, that is so sweet. And he really played
- 22:39Speaker 1: the part. He was putting on aftershave, he was holding
- 22:42Speaker 1: my hand in the car, like being all romantic. So
- 22:45Speaker 1: I get to the restaurant and I walked up to
- 22:47Speaker 1: the counter. And it's funny because he said that the
- 22:50Speaker 1: restaurant was a surprise. And when we pulled up, it
- 22:53Speaker 1: was a restaurant, Sophie, that you really like called Polk.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And I go, oh, this is funny. This is a
- 22:57Speaker 1: place Sophie loves. She's going to be jealous that we're here. Anyway,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I walked in. I completely didn't see you guys sitting
- 23:03Speaker 1: in the corner with a big Pooh Bear balloon, all
- 23:06Speaker 1: of these beautiful decorations. We'd gone to the effort of
- 23:09Speaker 1: even parking our cars around the corner because we thought
- 23:12Speaker 1: if you pull up and you see our cars out
- 23:13Speaker 1: the front, it's going to be pretty obvious what's going on.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I was just in absolute shock. Like, I don't think
- 23:18Speaker 1: it sunk in the whole night. And you guys did
- 23:21Speaker 1: such a good job.
- 23:22Speaker 2: It just looked so beautiful. The cake was gorgeous. The
- 23:25Speaker 2: cookies were gorgeous. I was like, this is better than
- 23:26Speaker 2: my own baby shower.
- 23:28Speaker 1: My favorite thing also was that Amy, then we all
- 23:31Speaker 1: went back to her house and you'd thought of everything.
- 23:33Speaker 1: You even got me a tracksuit. So you got me
- 23:36Speaker 1: men's medium pants and this oversized hoodie. And I've been
- 23:40Speaker 1: living in it ever since. I've actually been sleeping in
- 23:42Speaker 1: those pants. You can't pry them from my body.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Good old Kmart men's hoodies.
- 23:46Speaker 1: So officially, thank you so much for holding that for me.
- 23:49Speaker 1: That is where we're going to leave things today. If
- 23:51Speaker 1: you do enjoy the podcast, we do drop a bonus
