- 0:00Speaker 1: I'll tell you what everyone before we get underway. I
- 0:03Speaker 1: feel intimidated. I feel undervalued, underappreciated. I feel I'm going
- 0:09Speaker 1: to be honest. I know Tip's hilarious and lovable and
- 0:14Speaker 1: charming and charismatic on air and you won't believe this,
- 0:17Speaker 1: but off air, fucking straight up bully, straight up bully,
- 0:21Speaker 1: yells at me, bosses me around, and you can imagine
- 0:25Speaker 1: how fragile I am. I mean, have I mentioned how
- 0:28Speaker 1: old I am? My back a lot of stuff. But
- 0:32Speaker 1: does she give a fuck? Oh no, no, but now right,
- 0:36Speaker 1: she'll talk. Now, she'd be all love and light and
- 0:39Speaker 1: unicorns and fucking Disneyland, right to just woo you in.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But once that fucking microphone goes off, she's fucking Genghis calm,
- 0:49Speaker 1: fucking annihilates me. Hello Genghis, he I just spewed in
- 0:55Speaker 1: my mouth. Fuck. Um, you know you bossy? Right? You
- 1:01Speaker 1: do know that?
- 1:01Speaker 2: You do?
- 1:02Speaker 1: You? You know how bossy you are. I did point
- 1:05Speaker 1: out to her that I'm the actual boss, but she's like,
- 1:08Speaker 1: you're not. Be hang on, you're not, which sadly is true.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I don't know how I achieved that, but somehow I
- 1:19Speaker 1: work for her, which is I need a psychologist.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Oh, hang on, very good at being bossed around, am.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I You're fucking terrible. I don't want to boss you around.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Just sometimes you go to be hey, just wait on,
- 1:36Speaker 1: wait a fucking minute. It's not a yeah. I'm like,
- 1:38Speaker 1: we're not married. You can't talk to me like that.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And on top of that, you're honor I'm your boss
- 1:47Speaker 1: and you're like, nah, you're not. I'm like, all right, then,
- 1:51Speaker 1: all right, it's someday everyone. It's twenty five to six
- 1:56Speaker 1: in the PM. It's been an interesting day, milbs. It's
- 2:00Speaker 1: been cold, it's been warm, it's been fucking still, it's
- 2:04Speaker 1: been gaye force winds, it's been all of it. Wherever
- 2:07Speaker 1: you are in the world, we have Last time I look,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we had listeners in nearly ninety countries, some of those.
- 2:13Speaker 1: When I do look at the stats, it's like four
- 2:16Speaker 1: people in Zambia, so to you guys shout out. So
- 2:21Speaker 1: not a lot of people from there listening, but the
- 2:24Speaker 1: four of you fucking thinks if you could spread the
- 2:27Speaker 1: word a bit. I mean, you know, look, I know
- 2:31Speaker 1: you've got other stuff on. You probably got kids, you've
- 2:34Speaker 1: probably got a job, but maybe as your third priority,
- 2:38Speaker 1: spreading the typ gospel and if you could, because we're
- 2:43Speaker 1: not really crushing it in Zambia, but so if you
- 2:46Speaker 1: could help out, that would be much appreciated. Over and out,
- 2:50Speaker 1: Love Harps.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Does everyone realize why I have to.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Be so bossy? I am a child, I'm Mary's child. Yeah,
- 3:07Speaker 1: Mom was telling me. I was just on the phone, Mum,
- 3:10Speaker 1: God bless whenever anyone that I know is not well,
- 3:14Speaker 1: Like even if Mom doesn't numb, she got she's straight up.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I'll pray for them. But that's Mary's. I'll pray for them.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And what's their name again, I go tell them their name?
- 3:24Speaker 1: All right, I'll pray for them. I might light a
- 3:27Speaker 1: candle for them, depends on if I'm at church or not,
- 3:30Speaker 1: but I'll send up a couple of hail Mary's and
- 3:32Speaker 1: then our father. I'm like, Mum, that will be good.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You're pretty much God's right hand woman. So I will
- 3:38Speaker 1: tell them. And do you know when I tell people
- 3:40Speaker 1: that my mama's praying for them, and I'm not even joking, right,
- 3:45Speaker 1: it's not there's not a gag coming. Yeah, they some
- 3:49Speaker 1: people get a bit teary. I'm like, no, she really
- 3:53Speaker 1: is actually praying for you, and they're like, oh my god,
- 3:57Speaker 1: that is so and I go and she's got enough
- 3:59Speaker 1: of her own, So I don't know why the fuck
- 4:01Speaker 1: she's praying for you, but anyway she is. She's such
- 4:05Speaker 1: a good human, my mom. So I'll put them on
- 4:07Speaker 1: my list. What's their name? She's got a list, got
- 4:10Speaker 1: a list, God bless her. I'm like, mamam on that list.
- 4:15Speaker 1: She's so cool. She didn't say fuck, She's like, you're
- 4:20Speaker 1: the constant you're never offered, but not in an encouraging way.
- 4:26Speaker 1: You know you need all the help you can fucking
- 4:28Speaker 1: get way, you know, So you know, if you ever
- 4:34Speaker 1: do you ever need some Mary prayers, anyone, hit me
- 4:36Speaker 1: up typ podcast face facey page. I'll get married to
- 4:40Speaker 1: whack you on the can't hurt, can't hurt, That's what
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think. Can't hurt? You know what else I think?
- 4:46Speaker 1: And I know this is not what we're talking about,
- 4:48Speaker 1: But like my mum's faith, now, I don't know, is
- 4:55Speaker 1: there a god. I grew up believing there's a god.
- 4:57Speaker 1: We don't know. That's why we call it faith, not
- 4:59Speaker 1: knowledge or evidence or data, you know, but my mom
- 5:03Speaker 1: my mom's pretty sure, right. But what I love is
- 5:06Speaker 1: that my mom's faith and her belief and her prayer
- 5:10Speaker 1: and her going to church. Now, whether or not it's
- 5:13Speaker 1: one hundred percent legit, and it's all everything that she
- 5:17Speaker 1: was taught and told and trying to believe is true.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Or perhaps some of it or none of it, it
- 5:21Speaker 1: doesn't even matter to me because it makes her better.
- 5:24Speaker 1: It makes her calm or calmer, she can worry, and
- 5:30Speaker 1: it's like it's very very much a positive in her life.
- 5:35Speaker 1: So whether or not I agree or don't agree, or
- 5:38Speaker 1: we align on things or don't align on things, to
- 5:41Speaker 1: me matters zero. I just look back and I go,
- 5:45Speaker 1: all right, So my mom does this thing, she has
- 5:48Speaker 1: this way of being and living and believing, and she
- 5:51Speaker 1: has all these little rituals and rules and habits. What's
- 5:54Speaker 1: the net result. Well, the net result, Harps is she's
- 5:59Speaker 1: way better than if she didn't have that, because it
- 6:02Speaker 1: gives her a sense of calm and peace and takes
- 6:06Speaker 1: away anxiety. Like I don't think because she nearly died
- 6:10Speaker 1: a few times with cancer and a heart attack. Three
- 6:12Speaker 1: times cancer, one time heart attack. She doesn't. You know
- 6:17Speaker 1: what she said to me the other day, She said,
- 6:20Speaker 1: we'll talk about her license. She just got her license
- 6:24Speaker 1: renewed for two years, right, and she goes, well, that'll
- 6:27Speaker 1: do me. I'll be done by then, like I'll be dead,
- 6:29Speaker 1: she's like, but she doesn't go. Oh, She's like, well,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I won't be here in two years, which she probably will.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But you know, she's like, two years is good, Like
- 6:39Speaker 1: that will see me out. She goes, And it's funny
- 6:42Speaker 1: because she has no apparent fear of dying. Dad, on
- 6:46Speaker 1: the other hand, he's probably I don't think he's terrified,
- 6:49Speaker 1: but I think he's more regular, you know, more normal.
- 6:52Speaker 1: He doesn't like talking about it at all. But Mum's
- 6:55Speaker 1: constantly saying to me something like not bringing it up
- 7:00Speaker 1: for the sake, but just in conversation. She'll go, So
- 7:03Speaker 1: when I go to God, make sure you do this,
- 7:06Speaker 1: make sure you remember that, right, because I'm the only one.
- 7:09Speaker 1: There's no kids, there's no grandkids, there's no siblings, there's
- 7:12Speaker 1: just Fatty Harps tells me so much shit to remember.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I'm like, can you write a list before you go
- 7:17Speaker 1: to God, because there's a lot of shit that I
- 7:19Speaker 1: need to do. She goes, I have a list, yes, So.
- 7:24Speaker 2: But of course she's not scared because God saved her receipt.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Yeah, front, well, you think about what I mean, what
- 7:33Speaker 1: my mum believes is that Heaven's better than here, and
- 7:36Speaker 1: she doesn't like she truly believes that, so, you know,
- 7:41Speaker 1: apart from the normal mortal human fear of dying, you know,
- 7:46Speaker 1: she's pretty comfy with it. So good for her. Anyway,
- 7:51Speaker 1: Enough about Mary, Well.
- 7:53Speaker 2: One more question. When it went from hardcore preaching in
- 7:56Speaker 2: the street to I'm not sure about this God business
- 8:02Speaker 2: that I've been talking about my whole life, did you
- 8:05Speaker 2: share that with Mary? And what did you think?
- 8:07Speaker 1: Short? Didn't? Short didn't? Uh no, no, no, look I didn't. Okay,
- 8:13Speaker 1: what's in't preaching in the street, but I was. I
- 8:16Speaker 1: was for those three of you don't know. So I
- 8:18Speaker 1: did spend quite a few years in an evangelical Pentecostal
- 8:23Speaker 1: Praise the Lord church, and yeah, part of that involved,
- 8:28Speaker 1: like me being involved in different ministries and preaching literally
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know, from the altar, reading teaching from the Bible. Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 1: all of the you know, I'm not talking about the
- 8:42Speaker 1: casual weekend Christian. The I wear a tracksuit. Therefore, I'm
- 8:47Speaker 1: an athlete kind of Christian. You know, look at me.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I own attracts it I'm an athlete. No, you just
- 8:53Speaker 1: don't attract it. You know, there's people who call themselves things,
- 8:58Speaker 1: and then there's people who do all the work that's
- 9:00Speaker 1: required to actually be that. And I was like, I was,
- 9:05Speaker 1: you know, fully immersed in my belief, in my faith.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And it's not like I went, I don't believe in God.
- 9:13Speaker 1: And if you ask me, now, do I believe in
- 9:16Speaker 1: God or do I believe in let's just go with
- 9:18Speaker 1: do I believe in God? My answer is yes. Can
- 9:21Speaker 1: I prove that there's a God? No? Am I trying
- 9:23Speaker 1: to convince anyone that there's a God? No Am I
- 9:27Speaker 1: trying to manipulate coerce preach evangelized to any particular person.
- 9:32Speaker 2: No?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Could I be wrong? Yes? And this is the whole
- 9:37Speaker 1: you know, if we are, it's very hard to have
- 9:40Speaker 1: a hard wired belief and also be open minded because
- 9:46Speaker 1: when you go, oh, this is the one true Church,
- 9:49Speaker 1: the one true God, the one true doctrine, the one
- 9:51Speaker 1: true theology, you're also saying that everything that doesn't align
- 9:56Speaker 1: with what I believe is wrong. Now that to me
- 10:00Speaker 1: makes no sense. I do I believe that I could
- 10:05Speaker 1: be right about some things and wrong about lots of things. Yes,
- 10:08Speaker 1: I believe that could everything I've ever thought and been
- 10:12Speaker 1: taught about, you know, all things God, could all of
- 10:16Speaker 1: it be wrong? Yes? Am I comfortable with that kind
- 10:22Speaker 1: of you know, it's like I it's very difficult to
- 10:26Speaker 1: talk about. Well, it's not difficult, but it's very hard
- 10:29Speaker 1: to be, you know, have a very very strong belief
- 10:33Speaker 1: about something you literally cannot prove, and also say, by
- 10:38Speaker 1: the way, I'm super open minded and objective. Well, you
- 10:41Speaker 1: can't be both. You can't have a hard line belief
- 10:45Speaker 1: about something for which you have no evidence, right, And
- 10:48Speaker 1: people go, ah, you know the trees, that's evidence of God. Well,
- 10:52Speaker 1: other people would go that's evidence of nature or evolution
- 10:56Speaker 1: or you know. And and to me, though I believe,
- 11:00Speaker 1: I don't know what that means. I don't believe in
- 11:03Speaker 1: church as much as I believe in God. It's not
- 11:05Speaker 1: say church is bad, but I think, like all groups,
- 11:09Speaker 1: or all organizations or all businesses, anything, where there's a
- 11:14Speaker 1: group of people, there can be amazing, beautiful, genuine people
- 11:19Speaker 1: who really operate in love, and there can be manipulative cunts.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And that's what I think.
- 11:26Speaker 2: That's what I was to say that word in the
- 11:28Speaker 2: middle of I know in the middle.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Of this kind of God conversation. But that's what I
- 11:31Speaker 1: truly think now I don't know, I mean. But and again,
- 11:34Speaker 1: this is not this is not an instructional podcast. This
- 11:38Speaker 1: is not a teaching podcast in that sense. This is
- 11:41Speaker 1: like me being the most real, raw version of me
- 11:47Speaker 1: talking about my beliefs that I can be, which most
- 11:51Speaker 1: people would never talk this way publicly if they were
- 11:54Speaker 1: me and if they had those beliefs and that. But
- 11:57Speaker 1: could I be wrong, yes? Could I be right? Yes?
- 11:59Speaker 1: Could I be partly right? Yes? You know, so we
- 12:03Speaker 1: don't know, and we tend to believe and defend and
- 12:08Speaker 1: fight for what we think is right, not necessarily what
- 12:13Speaker 1: we know is right right, So there's that. And also,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think you know, one of the things that you
- 12:22Speaker 1: talk about on your show, I talk about on this
- 12:24Speaker 1: We've talked about multiple times is how attractive it is
- 12:29Speaker 1: to be or how perhaps are what's the word valuable, noble, humble?
- 12:36Speaker 1: It is to be truly okay with being wrong, like
- 12:40Speaker 1: truly And if I'm being honest, well, I've probably been
- 12:45Speaker 1: wrong about as many things as I've been right, maybe
- 12:49Speaker 1: more so. Why now would I think it's sixty one
- 12:52Speaker 1: having been making mistakes for my whole life and getting
- 12:55Speaker 1: things wrong for my whole life. That I'm absolutely right
- 13:00Speaker 1: about everything. Well, that's ego, that's arrogance, that's shit attitude,
- 13:04Speaker 1: that's that's being defensive. That's not a person who really
- 13:09Speaker 1: wants to learn and grow and evolve. That's someone who
- 13:12Speaker 1: wants to be right. That's someone who's addicted to, you know,
- 13:18Speaker 1: winning in a bad way. So for me, it's like
- 13:23Speaker 1: I have reasons that I've gone into. You know, there
- 13:26Speaker 1: have been many things in my life that have happened
- 13:28Speaker 1: that that indicate to me that there is way more
- 13:35Speaker 1: to life and experience and what can be experienced and
- 13:42Speaker 1: what can be accessed, and what wisdom could be, and
- 13:45Speaker 1: what truth could be, and what knowledge could be beyond
- 13:49Speaker 1: the human brain. I think one of them, this is
- 13:51Speaker 1: someone doing a neuropsych degree PhD. I should say, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: one of the problems is that we think we're smarter
- 13:58Speaker 1: than we are. We are all knowing as a species.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I object to that wildly. I think compared to other
- 14:10Speaker 1: mammals and animals, we are in some ways smarter and
- 14:15Speaker 1: more evolved. But that depends on the metric that you're using.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Put me and a line in the jungle. Who the
- 14:23Speaker 1: fuck's winning? Not Fatty Harps? You know? Put like, it
- 14:28Speaker 1: depends on what's the problem we're trying to solve. You know,
- 14:32Speaker 1: how can how well can you adapt and survive in
- 14:35Speaker 1: this situation or that context? Like we've built for ourselves
- 14:39Speaker 1: the most comfortable existence because of our capacity to reason
- 14:44Speaker 1: and think and solve problems, which is, in that way
- 14:47Speaker 1: we are the smarter species, but you think about other things.
- 14:52Speaker 1: In other ways, we are definitely not. And so then
- 14:54Speaker 1: when you zoom out a bit from the brain and
- 14:57Speaker 1: the mind and what we call logic and reason and
- 15:02Speaker 1: common sense, then you realize that perhaps there is a
- 15:07Speaker 1: whole universe of intelligence and wisdom and truth and knowing
- 15:13Speaker 1: to be accessed that doesn't fit within the parameters of
- 15:18Speaker 1: what we call logic or reason or probability or possibility.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I just think that we tell ourselves what we want
- 15:27Speaker 1: to believe because the other shit scares us. And there
- 15:32Speaker 1: are many, many, many things that continue to be brought
- 15:35Speaker 1: to light that are absolute and true that not long
- 15:40Speaker 1: ago we considered absolutely impossible. And so as we know
- 15:46Speaker 1: now that things that we're doing in twenty twenty five
- 15:50Speaker 1: were not possible ten years ago and completely. You know,
- 15:58Speaker 1: some thing's twenty thirty forty years ago, one hundred and
- 16:01Speaker 1: two hundred years ago would have been considered witchcraft or
- 16:05Speaker 1: something like that, because in that time, with the knowledge
- 16:09Speaker 1: that those people had, whatever of the thing was like
- 16:13Speaker 1: I've spoken before, like people flying across the sky in
- 16:17Speaker 1: a metal tube. And so you've got a plane which
- 16:21Speaker 1: weighs hundreds of tons and people that weigh however many
- 16:26Speaker 1: ton and then you put that in the sky. Well,
- 16:29Speaker 1: even a fucking feather can't stay in the sky. It
- 16:32Speaker 1: falls to the ground. You know, logically, back then that
- 16:37Speaker 1: makes no sense because they didn't have the understanding of
- 16:39Speaker 1: physics and thrust and power and aerodynamics that we now have.
- 16:46Speaker 1: So it depends on the time in human evolution and
- 16:51Speaker 1: the context and also what we have been taught and
- 16:54Speaker 1: told and trained. So, yeah, that was very deep, and
- 16:58Speaker 1: I did we didn't expect to go there, But keep going.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I feel like you've got another ready, let's shelve the
- 17:03Speaker 1: other conversation. We'll do it later.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Yeah, how much do you think we have control over
- 17:11Speaker 2: choosing our beliefs and what comes into that process? At
- 17:17Speaker 2: what point do we get a level of control over
- 17:21Speaker 2: our beliefs.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Okay, you've asked a lot of questions. That's in the
- 17:26Speaker 1: top three of smartest questions that you've ever asked me. Right,
- 17:30Speaker 1: So this is great, This is a great conversation I have.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So the answer is, we have a lot of control.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But also at the same time, most of us don't
- 17:42Speaker 1: use that control or a lot of capacity to change
- 17:45Speaker 1: our beliefs. But one, you can't change your beliefs unless
- 17:49Speaker 1: you think perhaps they're flawed. And two unless you are
- 17:53Speaker 1: absolutely willing to be wrong and prepared to go I
- 17:57Speaker 1: was just wrong, no bullshit, no where you go, no excuses,
- 18:00Speaker 1: no rationale, just I was wrong. And then three, to
- 18:04Speaker 1: be able to consider things that perhaps were at odds
- 18:08Speaker 1: with your previous belief A very common one that I've
- 18:12Speaker 1: used on this show is my habit for thirty years
- 18:17Speaker 1: of teaching the food pyramid because I thought that was
- 18:23Speaker 1: I thought that was gold standard science. I was taught
- 18:27Speaker 1: that was gold standard science. And then probably ten years ago,
- 18:32Speaker 1: maybe a little bit more, I heard the story of
- 18:34Speaker 1: ansel keys and how that model of eating came into being,
- 18:40Speaker 1: and I did some research and more research and asked
- 18:42Speaker 1: some questions and did deeper and deeper dive, and it
- 18:46Speaker 1: turns out that that particular idea or that proposal of
- 18:53Speaker 1: this is the best way to eat is wildly flawed.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Now I believe that, and so I was wrong. I'm
- 19:00Speaker 1: not mad at anyone. I don't blame anyone. I just
- 19:02Speaker 1: go I thought A. Turns out that A was wrong,
- 19:06Speaker 1: it's actually B. And so the moment that I know
- 19:12Speaker 1: something different, or I'm aware that there is information or
- 19:16Speaker 1: data or evidence which doesn't fit my belief and I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: not at least even willing to consider that, well, that's
- 19:26Speaker 1: coming out a place of fear, fear of being embarrassed,
- 19:30Speaker 1: fear of looking stupid people think, fear of people thinking
- 19:34Speaker 1: less of me, fear of having to own up to something.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And none of that is in an interest to get
- 19:40Speaker 1: to the truth. That's all in an interest to protect
- 19:44Speaker 1: my ego and my bullshit and my reputation. And I mean,
- 19:49Speaker 1: I've said things on this podcast. Nothing springs to mind,
- 19:53Speaker 1: but there's probably one hundred things I've said on this
- 19:56Speaker 1: very show over the last eight years that were bullshit
- 20:01Speaker 1: or partly bullshit, not intentionally, of course, But now if
- 20:07Speaker 1: I revisited that, I might think that that what I
- 20:10Speaker 1: said back then was foolish or not fully enlightened or founded,
- 20:18Speaker 1: you know. So the answer is we can change our beliefs,
- 20:20Speaker 1: but we need to first recognize what are the beliefs
- 20:24Speaker 1: that I currently have that hold me back, How do
- 20:27Speaker 1: they hinder me? And where did they come from? Did
- 20:32Speaker 1: I choose this belief or is this belief a byproduct
- 20:37Speaker 1: of who I've hung around and what I've paid attention to.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Because you know, we say you become the average of
- 20:43Speaker 1: the five. You know, that's kind of bro science, but
- 20:46Speaker 1: there's definitely something in it. You know. The chances of
- 20:49Speaker 1: me becoming a Catholic, going to a Catholic school and
- 20:52Speaker 1: never anything else, and having Catholic friends, and being in
- 20:56Speaker 1: the Catholic Catholic system, and going to Mass every Sunday
- 20:59Speaker 1: and having Athlelic parents and you know, nuns and priests
- 21:03Speaker 1: coming to our house for dinner on a regular well,
- 21:05Speaker 1: the chances of me being a Buddhist was zero. The
- 21:08Speaker 1: chances of me being an atheist was zero. The chances
- 21:10Speaker 1: of me being an Anglican was zero. But then one
- 21:14Speaker 1: day you get to the point where you might question
- 21:17Speaker 1: something because you go, yeah, I know this is what
- 21:20Speaker 1: I meant to believe in to believe in inverted commas,
- 21:24Speaker 1: but there's something in me that's going, yeah, that could
- 21:27Speaker 1: be bullshit. And the other part to this, which makes
- 21:31Speaker 1: it even harder to change beliefs, is we have a
- 21:34Speaker 1: weird sense of loyalty to our fellow believers, like we
- 21:40Speaker 1: live in an echo chamber of belief, so we get
- 21:43Speaker 1: trapped in confirmation bias. We only look for evidence or
- 21:47Speaker 1: data or stories or information that support our belief So
- 21:53Speaker 1: is it possible to change our beliefs? Absolutely? Is it easy? No,
- 21:57Speaker 1: It's quite difficult, depending on you know. Also, some of
- 22:01Speaker 1: those beliefs are life shaping and life defining, an identity defining.
- 22:05Speaker 1: They're the hardest.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Making me think of in relation to these questions, what
- 22:12Speaker 2: made me think of that was this morning I was
- 22:14Speaker 2: training someone. This will sound weird, but it relates in
- 22:17Speaker 2: my head. Hopefully it makes sense. Training someone brand new
- 22:20Speaker 2: in boxing and teaching them how you hold yourself changes
- 22:25Speaker 2: your reaction. So when we teach boxing, you are changing,
- 22:29Speaker 2: you are changing your posture, and you're training a reaction
- 22:35Speaker 2: that is beyond your control. Because when something doesn't matter,
- 22:38Speaker 2: how brave and tough and fear less in inverted commas,
- 22:43Speaker 2: you are when something's rocketing at your face before you
- 22:47Speaker 2: have a chance to choose your response, you react, and
- 22:52Speaker 2: if you're standing upright in your posture, your reaction will
- 22:58Speaker 2: be to pull back and lift up to get out
- 23:01Speaker 2: because your brain goes, fuck, We've got to get out
- 23:03Speaker 2: of here. If you hold your chin down and hold
- 23:05Speaker 2: a stance where you are in a forward motion, like
- 23:08Speaker 2: crouching like a tiger, and that same thing comes at
- 23:11Speaker 2: your face, your reaction. Because I've done this. I've done
- 23:14Speaker 2: both of these, and I've changed them in a moment
- 23:16Speaker 2: in the same session and had different reactions. You will.
- 23:20Speaker 2: You will slip the punch, and you will likely aggress
- 23:23Speaker 2: your throwback. So it's got nothing to do about the
- 23:25Speaker 2: story of whether or not I, oh, I'm so brave
- 23:28Speaker 2: when someone punches me old punch and back. That doesn't
- 23:31Speaker 2: come into it. So, oh, I believe this, Like, So
- 23:34Speaker 2: it's what part of those beliefs? So did you? So
- 23:38Speaker 2: my question is do you feel like you chose God
- 23:45Speaker 2: or you erased the parts of the religious community that
- 23:51Speaker 2: you didn't connect with and you kept what was left behind.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Wow? Also a good question. So I'm the first to
- 24:01Speaker 1: put up my hand and say, like, I realize that
- 24:04Speaker 1: the way that I think is just the way that
- 24:06Speaker 1: I think. I don't confuse what I think with absolute truth, right,
- 24:11Speaker 1: I don't confuse my knowledge with wisdom. But so for me,
- 24:23Speaker 1: I was in the middle of for for a number
- 24:25Speaker 1: of years, multiple churches, you know, maybe eight years, and
- 24:29Speaker 1: this is after Catholicism, and I just saw things to
- 24:35Speaker 1: me that were out of alignment with the teaching of
- 24:40Speaker 1: the church. I remember my you know, compared to some people,
- 24:45Speaker 1: my theological knowledge is too out of ten. Compared to
- 24:49Speaker 1: the average person, it's probably pretty good. So, you know,
- 24:54Speaker 1: when when I see people doing things which are totally
- 24:59Speaker 1: out of alignment with what they would typically say to
- 25:02Speaker 1: others or preach or be seen to be doing in
- 25:08Speaker 1: a church situation, and I see basically like fraudulent behavior,
- 25:14Speaker 1: I'm like, that's just you pretending that you're something. And
- 25:16Speaker 1: then I see them basically when they think no one's looking,
- 25:20Speaker 1: being a different version. Right. There's that that now, and
- 25:26Speaker 1: that sounds judgmental. Well, I don't mean that to be,
- 25:29Speaker 1: but that's just that was my observation. And I saw
- 25:32Speaker 1: that many times. I also saw people who when no
- 25:35Speaker 1: one thought when they thought no one was watching, they
- 25:39Speaker 1: were an angel, like they were doing just incredible stuff
- 25:42Speaker 1: for others. Right. So, but this is any group of people.
- 25:46Speaker 1: It could be a synagogue, it could be you know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: a church. It could be a school group, it could
- 25:53Speaker 1: be you know, Kole's where you've got a bunch of
- 25:56Speaker 1: people who work together. You know you're going to get
- 25:58Speaker 1: You're going to get really cross section of how people
- 26:01Speaker 1: are and how they behave, and how they think and
- 26:03Speaker 1: how they choose, and also how they are when people
- 26:05Speaker 1: are watching, and how they are when they think people
- 26:08Speaker 1: are not watching. So I just found a lot of incongruence,
- 26:14Speaker 1: which is, you know, misalignment between what I was taught
- 26:18Speaker 1: and told and trained and what I considered to be
- 26:20Speaker 1: the wisdom of the Bible. I saw a lot of
- 26:26Speaker 1: you know, divergence, a lot of separation, and I kind
- 26:30Speaker 1: of fell out of love with church. And I don't
- 26:36Speaker 1: think I'm more enlightened than them. They're still you know,
- 26:38Speaker 1: I don't think that at all. I think I still
- 26:41Speaker 1: think I'm a fuck up. You know, sometimes sometimes I
- 26:44Speaker 1: think I'm a pretty decent human And the truth is,
- 26:49Speaker 1: I don't know. Like that's why if I knew I
- 26:52Speaker 1: wouldn't have to have faith, right, I don't know. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: don't know what there is. And I try very hard.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I try very hard to be self aware and realize
- 27:05Speaker 1: that or think about do I just believe this because
- 27:08Speaker 1: this is familiar? Do I just believe this because this
- 27:12Speaker 1: is comfortable? And I am pretty good at not doing
- 27:18Speaker 1: that or being that. In fact, a lot of the
- 27:19Speaker 1: things that I believe make my life harder in that
- 27:28Speaker 1: I'm inherently selfish. And you know, while I want to
- 27:32Speaker 1: help people and love people, and I truly do, I
- 27:35Speaker 1: can be a selfish fuck, you know. And I know
- 27:40Speaker 1: that if I didn't have the beliefs that I have,
- 27:45Speaker 1: that I would not that I would be. I don't
- 27:48Speaker 1: think I'm a great person now, but I would not
- 27:50Speaker 1: be the person I am now. I truly believe, and
- 27:53Speaker 1: I've said this a hundred times. I truly believe that
- 27:59Speaker 1: if you can and really try to come from a
- 28:01Speaker 1: place of love, whatever that is with that's kindness or
- 28:04Speaker 1: quality time or generosity or empathy or support, you know
- 28:10Speaker 1: that if you can truly try to come from that perspective,
- 28:15Speaker 1: and it's not to be selfless, because that doesn't work,
- 28:19Speaker 1: but it's to be less selfish, you know, to have
- 28:22Speaker 1: a purpose bigger than you, and a purpose that you know,
- 28:26Speaker 1: while I make good money, money is not my reason
- 28:29Speaker 1: for living. And so to try to, you know, live
- 28:33Speaker 1: those values which may or may not be biblical. But
- 28:38Speaker 1: to me, that's the thing. And I look, I might
- 28:41Speaker 1: find out one day, or Mary might find out if
- 28:45Speaker 1: she goes quicker and she can email me from heaven
- 28:47Speaker 1: dot com hashtag no bullshit up here, she might give
- 28:53Speaker 1: me a quick insight. But you know, I think, I
- 28:59Speaker 1: think it's just a really interesting thing to think and
- 29:03Speaker 1: think about. And I guess God, Heaven, Hell, eternity, life, death,
- 29:10Speaker 1: you know, different realms, you know, spiritual spirituality, spiritual insight,
- 29:18Speaker 1: spiritual wisdom. You know, there are all of these things
- 29:21Speaker 1: that we kind of have words for, but I don't
- 29:24Speaker 1: know that we fully understand them. And I and I
- 29:29Speaker 1: can't explain this. And this could be a byproduct of
- 29:31Speaker 1: my mind, or it could be something else, but I
- 29:35Speaker 1: know that the intention that I go into experiences with
- 29:42Speaker 1: and I'm not talking about buying my bananas, but if
- 29:44Speaker 1: I'm going to do a talk like I did one
- 29:47Speaker 1: you know the other day in Meal Dury that we
- 29:49Speaker 1: spoke about or or it could be something perhaps more
- 29:53Speaker 1: a little deeper, where I'm working with a whole group
- 29:55Speaker 1: for a day and it's really people who are ready
- 29:57Speaker 1: to change their life. I know. So that if I
- 30:02Speaker 1: if I get out of my own bullshit and ego
- 30:04Speaker 1: and get I get out of my planning, and I
- 30:06Speaker 1: get out of my research, and I get out of
- 30:09Speaker 1: my to do list, and I just you know, I'll
- 30:13Speaker 1: pray a little prayer and it might be something you know,
- 30:16Speaker 1: like all of you, and none of me, like all
- 30:19Speaker 1: of you, none of me, you know, let me be
- 30:21Speaker 1: a conduit to the wisdom and the love and the knowledge,
- 30:26Speaker 1: so that I don't get in the way of what
- 30:29Speaker 1: might happen for these people today, you know. And that
- 30:33Speaker 1: people will go, oh my god, he's gone. No, I
- 30:35Speaker 1: haven't gone. I've always been like that. I've always been
- 30:38Speaker 1: like that. It's just I think sometimes we've got to
- 30:42Speaker 1: be like I try to be mindful of how wide
- 30:45Speaker 1: I open the door, because some people will go, oh,
- 30:48Speaker 1: this is fucking psychobabble, bullshit, spiritual bullshit. I'm out. And
- 30:52Speaker 1: of course to those people, you know, of course, go
- 30:56Speaker 1: find who you connect with or what you connect with,
- 30:59Speaker 1: and either way they could be right. I don't know,
- 31:04Speaker 1: but I think you you know, if you stand for nothing,
- 31:07Speaker 1: you'll fall for anything, So you've got to go Look.
- 31:11Speaker 1: I could be wrong, but this is what I think,
- 31:13Speaker 1: This is what I believe, This is what works for me,
- 31:15Speaker 1: which is why I don't try to evangelize anyone, coerce anyone.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I'm not telling anyone they should believe in anything. I'm
- 31:23Speaker 1: telling you how it works for me, and I just
- 31:26Speaker 1: think that it is. It is brave to be able
- 31:31Speaker 1: to go through life knowing that, or being comfortable with
- 31:36Speaker 1: the idea that you're going to be wrong a lot,
- 31:38Speaker 1: and you're going to be wrong about things that you
- 31:40Speaker 1: really do not want to be wrong about. But going
- 31:44Speaker 1: I was wrong, not Here's twenty reasons why just I
- 31:47Speaker 1: was wrong. So One, if I misled you, I apologize too.
- 31:53Speaker 1: I didn't mean to. Three. I'm going to lean into
- 31:56Speaker 1: this and see what I can learn, and see what also,
- 31:59Speaker 1: see what I can learn beyond beyond the Internet, beyond
- 32:05Speaker 1: the research, beyond the books, beyond the psychology. I want
- 32:10Speaker 1: to see what I can learn just by being open,
- 32:15Speaker 1: by being aware, by paying attention. I think we can
- 32:19Speaker 1: learn just by allowing whatever it is our brain, our mind,
- 32:23Speaker 1: our soul to be a conduit to the wisdom that
- 32:28Speaker 1: exists outside of what we think is knowledge. This is deep,
- 32:33Speaker 1: isn't it?
- 32:34Speaker 2: I love it so much. This is one of my
- 32:36Speaker 2: favorite conversations. What do you think that your belief in
- 32:40Speaker 2: God gives you? Like protection, safety, connection, belonging? Like what
- 32:47Speaker 2: does it bring to you? And second to that, how
- 32:51Speaker 2: do you feel or do you think about how does
- 32:54Speaker 2: that change or shape your behavior?
- 32:57Speaker 1: Honestly, sometimes I don't want to believe in God. Hard
- 33:01Speaker 1: work be much easier to not to right, I don't
- 33:05Speaker 1: think about like I think if this is just how
- 33:09Speaker 1: I think if you believe in God because you think
- 33:12Speaker 1: that's some kind of guarantee to something you probably don't
- 33:16Speaker 1: really believe in God. It's kind of like, oh well
- 33:19Speaker 1: if I do this, then I won't go to hell there.
- 33:21Speaker 1: It doesn't really work like that, like you genuinely for
- 33:25Speaker 1: me anyway, my understanding my belief is like sometimes I'm
- 33:29Speaker 1: mad at God. Sometimes I'm like God, this is I
- 33:31Speaker 1: don't want to do this, Like I don't want to
- 33:33Speaker 1: do this. God's like, yeah, I don't care, you know,
- 33:37Speaker 1: don't care? Like what makes you come t like what
- 33:42Speaker 1: you're comfortable with, is not what I'm like. Let's say
- 33:46Speaker 1: that the Bible's real, and let's say that there was
- 33:50Speaker 1: a bloke called Jesus, and let's say that he did
- 33:52Speaker 1: get nailed to across on a hill called Calvary and
- 33:57Speaker 1: died an agonizing, slow, painful death. If all of that's true,
- 34:02Speaker 1: well that's a that's I'm never going to deal with
- 34:06Speaker 1: anything like that, you know, like that's the ultimate. Now,
- 34:11Speaker 1: obviously that's the that's the Christian message, is that Jesus
- 34:14Speaker 1: died for hour, you know, John three point sixteen, for
- 34:18Speaker 1: God so love the world that he gave He's only
- 34:20Speaker 1: begotten son, that whosoever believes in him would not perish
- 34:23Speaker 1: but have eternal life. That's the salvation scripture, right, And
- 34:28Speaker 1: and then I think about it. Can't just if you go, well,
- 34:31Speaker 1: i'm a Christian, or if you go I'm a Muslim,
- 34:33Speaker 1: or if you go I'm a Buddhist, or if you
- 34:35Speaker 1: go I'm a Jew, or if you go I'm a
- 34:38Speaker 1: whatever it is, whatever your theology is. You can't just
- 34:43Speaker 1: pick and choose. You can't go, yeah I believe that bit.
- 34:47Speaker 1: I don't believe that bit, you know, or it's probably
- 34:52Speaker 1: you know, it's hard to let me say this better
- 34:57Speaker 1: if you're picking and choosing the inside, it's the wisdom
- 35:00Speaker 1: the scriptures that work for you because you're you're okay
- 35:05Speaker 1: to do that, and you're comfortable to do that. Like,
- 35:08Speaker 1: I think the messages that are the most empowering and
- 35:11Speaker 1: the most relevant for me are the ones I don't
- 35:14Speaker 1: want to hear. They're the ones I don't want to hear,
- 35:18Speaker 1: you know, Like remember that story I told you about
- 35:21Speaker 1: me training? Remember that which one? Remember I told you that? Okay,
- 35:29Speaker 1: I've told this maybe two or three times, right, Yes,
- 35:32Speaker 1: So I prayed to God one day because I was
- 35:34Speaker 1: obsessed with my body and obsessed with training, and I
- 35:37Speaker 1: just I just started reading the Bible like I was
- 35:40Speaker 1: early twenties. I didn't know the front from the back, Genesis,
- 35:43Speaker 1: first Book, Revelation, last Book, or New Testament. I didn't
- 35:47Speaker 1: know where anything was. So I didn't I didn't know
- 35:50Speaker 1: one scripture. I couldn't have told you one scripture from
- 35:53Speaker 1: the Bible. Obviously, growing up as a Catholic, we weren't
- 35:56Speaker 1: encouraged to read the Bible right, no heat or hate,
- 35:59Speaker 1: just that was my experience. So one day I just
- 36:04Speaker 1: I Remember, there's sixty six books in the Bible, or
- 36:08Speaker 1: in the kind of typical Bible. There are a few
- 36:10Speaker 1: different ones, but most Bibles have sixty six books. And
- 36:13Speaker 1: within all of those books, which I guess you could
- 36:16Speaker 1: in more layman's terms, we might call them chapters, but
- 36:20Speaker 1: they're called books, and they have a bunch of different
- 36:24Speaker 1: chapters within those books and verses in those chapters. And
- 36:29Speaker 1: you know, I mean literally tens and tens and tens
- 36:32Speaker 1: of thousands of words in the Bible. And so one
- 36:36Speaker 1: day I felt that I felt that God was telling
- 36:42Speaker 1: me that I was obsessed with my body. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 1: this is me kraigerfying it, that how I looked and
- 36:52Speaker 1: what my body was doing and how big my muscles were,
- 36:55Speaker 1: and that was basically my God because I was filled
- 36:58Speaker 1: with ego and as insecure and at that point in
- 37:02Speaker 1: my life, I got validation and approval and acceptance and
- 37:06Speaker 1: what I felt was love through what I looked like
- 37:10Speaker 1: and how well my body could perform. Right, So that's
- 37:13Speaker 1: very addictive when you were a fat, socially invisible kid
- 37:17Speaker 1: who got nothing but heat and hate because of his body.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Now you fast forward six seven years and I'm getting
- 37:26Speaker 1: all of this attention because my body is in good shape,
- 37:32Speaker 1: so attention. Not that I was, you know, spectacular, but
- 37:36Speaker 1: compared to what I look like when I was fourteen,
- 37:38Speaker 1: I was fucking Brad Pitt, right. And while I wanted
- 37:43Speaker 1: to learn about not just God, I wanted to learn
- 37:46Speaker 1: about a different way about thinking about life and about
- 37:49Speaker 1: people and about existing and about like, what is life
- 37:53Speaker 1: about working, making money and buying stuff and then getting
- 37:57Speaker 1: old and dying? Is that what life's about? Because that's
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's kind of what I thought most people thought life
- 38:04Speaker 1: was about. You know, you get married between twenty and thirty,
- 38:07Speaker 1: you have, you know, two point three kids, you have
- 38:09Speaker 1: a golden a trebra station wagon, white pick a fence.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You do a job, you don't have a passion, You
- 38:14Speaker 1: do a job. You do that forty years, and you
- 38:16Speaker 1: retire from the thing that you didn't love, but it
- 38:18Speaker 1: paid the bills. And then you get old and then
- 38:20Speaker 1: you get fucked. You might buy a caravan, you might
- 38:23Speaker 1: play your goal four times a year, but you're fucked
- 38:25Speaker 1: and then you die. And I'm like, that was what
- 38:29Speaker 1: I thought, and I just was very interested in something else,
- 38:35Speaker 1: and I always had it's going to sound weird, but
- 38:41Speaker 1: I always had what I would call a god curiosity
- 38:47Speaker 1: and a God awareness. And even now it's sixty one,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know, but I'm telling you that,
- 38:55Speaker 1: you know that I've had for me. And I don't
- 38:59Speaker 1: even like saying it because people think you're weird and
- 39:01Speaker 1: they're like, oh, he was so sensible until he did that, right,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I get it. But you know, if you believe me,
- 39:08Speaker 1: then you'll believe me when I tell you that. You know.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I sat in my car with that Bible and I said, God,
- 39:14Speaker 1: if you want me to not train, you know you
- 39:18Speaker 1: want me to like I felt, I was being told
- 39:21Speaker 1: not to be basically a fathead obsessed with his own appearance,
- 39:25Speaker 1: right and body, And so I shut my eyes. I
- 39:29Speaker 1: didn't know where anything was, didn't know any of the books,
- 39:32Speaker 1: any of the chapters, any of the scriptures, any of
- 39:34Speaker 1: the verses. I didn't know Old Testament from you. I
- 39:38Speaker 1: opened the Bible with my eyes closed, and I put
- 39:40Speaker 1: my finger in and my prayer was, God, if you
- 39:43Speaker 1: want me to stop, you know, to change my life
- 39:46Speaker 1: in this way, let me know. And my finger was on.
- 39:53Speaker 1: My finger was at there was a tea and my
- 39:56Speaker 1: finger was just before the tea, and the word was
- 39:59Speaker 1: the no sorry sorry, it was P. It was P.
- 40:05Speaker 1: And the word was physical. Right, So here's the P
- 40:10Speaker 1: and my fingers at the start. And the scripture is
- 40:12Speaker 1: one Timothy four to eight, and it says physical training
- 40:16Speaker 1: profiteth a little. This is in the King James version,
- 40:19Speaker 1: which is old ye world, I'll say it in more
- 40:22Speaker 1: modern terms, new international version maybe, which is physical training
- 40:25Speaker 1: is of some value, but train yourself in the things
- 40:28Speaker 1: of God like that was. That was And my finger
- 40:34Speaker 1: with my eyes closed, found that out of thousands of
- 40:37Speaker 1: thousands of words, and that was the thing that I read.
- 40:42Speaker 1: And then I went directly from there into church. This
- 40:45Speaker 1: was my second week at a Bible kind of spirit
- 40:49Speaker 1: fuelled Pentecostal church. There was an old guy. For those
- 40:52Speaker 1: who've heard this, I apologize Pastor Milton, who was great.
- 40:56Speaker 1: And I said to him, I asked him like I
- 41:01Speaker 1: knew the answer because I'd found one scripture, but I
- 41:04Speaker 1: wanted to hear from him what he would say. And
- 41:06Speaker 1: I said he was a real theological giant. And I said, Pastor,
- 41:11Speaker 1: I work in a gym. He didn't know me yet,
- 41:13Speaker 1: he'd met me briefly, but I said I work in
- 41:15Speaker 1: a gym. I told him what I do. I didn't
- 41:17Speaker 1: tell him why I had this question. I said, my
- 41:20Speaker 1: question to you is, is there a scripture in the Bible,
- 41:24Speaker 1: the whole Bible, front or back, you know, Old or
- 41:26Speaker 1: New Testament, that talks about like working out, like physical training.
- 41:32Speaker 1: And he goes, oh, let me think, let me think,
- 41:35Speaker 1: and he kind of it chews over it from maybe
- 41:38Speaker 1: six eight seconds, and he goes, yeah, there's there's one scripture.
- 41:43Speaker 1: He called everyone, dear one. He goes, yes, dear one,
- 41:45Speaker 1: there's one, and it's one Timothy four eight and it's
- 41:50Speaker 1: you know, physical training, prophetess a little but train yourself
- 41:52Speaker 1: onto the things of God. And I'm like, I went
- 41:56Speaker 1: white and I just went thank you, and then I
- 41:59Speaker 1: just walked you know so. And some people will say, well,
- 42:03Speaker 1: that could happen, that's a coincidence. And I'm going to
- 42:05Speaker 1: say to you maybe maybe I don't know. Do I
- 42:09Speaker 1: have proof that that was God? Of course I don't,
- 42:13Speaker 1: but I have had many things like that happen. Now
- 42:18Speaker 1: I believe that just like here's my analogy. Do you
- 42:23Speaker 1: believe that your body is always sending you signals? Tiff? Yeah, yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 1: So I believe that our body is a biofeedback system
- 42:33Speaker 1: and we are all getting messages from our body. I
- 42:36Speaker 1: also believe that most people do not listen. It's not
- 42:40Speaker 1: that the information is there. It's not that the wisdom
- 42:43Speaker 1: or the insight or the understanding or the message is
- 42:46Speaker 1: not there. It's just that we're not open. Now, if
- 42:52Speaker 1: you want to do something that's a bit scary, go
- 42:55Speaker 1: and pray to whoever or whatever. Just say God or
- 42:58Speaker 1: whoever or whatever you are, if you are real in
- 43:02Speaker 1: the next week, just show me something, show me something
- 43:07Speaker 1: and be honest. And then people go, oh, yeah, you're
- 43:10Speaker 1: going to make something up with your mind. And you know,
- 43:12Speaker 1: people will always find a reason. And I get it.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I get it. I get it one hundred percent get it.
- 43:17Speaker 1: I'm pretty skeptical too, I trust pretty slowly. I ask
- 43:21Speaker 1: a thousand questions. But you would be surprised a number
- 43:26Speaker 1: of people who when you open yourself to the possibility
- 43:30Speaker 1: that there's knowledge or wisdom or truth to be gleaned
- 43:34Speaker 1: and access that doesn't come from the Internet or a
- 43:37Speaker 1: book or Brian right, then some amazing shit can happen.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Do you remember I'm sure I told you. Do you
- 43:45Speaker 2: remember that dream I had, and it was it was
- 43:48Speaker 2: some time after we had a similar conversation to this,
- 43:52Speaker 2: where I was I was asleep. Tell it, You'll probably
- 43:56Speaker 2: remember I was, I was asleep, and then I had
- 43:58Speaker 2: this kind of this half visa. I think I'm awake
- 44:01Speaker 2: but not really kind of dreaming. There's a silhouette and
- 44:04Speaker 2: obviously I'm thinking we've had a conversation about God or
- 44:07Speaker 2: Jesus or whatever. And in that kind of semi half awake,
- 44:13Speaker 2: vivid feeling, I've gone, I've looked at this silhouett this
- 44:17Speaker 2: and I've gone show me or proved to me or something.
- 44:22Speaker 2: And in my mind I know that it was like
- 44:24Speaker 2: it was like it was God or Jesus or whatever.
- 44:27Speaker 2: And a moment later, the cat ran its right, so
- 44:36Speaker 2: I'm in bed. The cat runs and I hear it
- 44:37Speaker 2: on the carpet. It runs up and it jumps and
- 44:40Speaker 2: it's got its face next to mine, and I've gone
- 44:43Speaker 2: into complete shock. And then I opened my eyes and
- 44:49Speaker 2: there's no cat there but the cat. My cat doesn't
- 44:52Speaker 2: have access to my so my bedroom door shut and
- 44:54Speaker 2: the cat's in a completely different room. Wow, and my
- 44:57Speaker 2: heart's racing. And I was like that, but at that first,
- 45:01Speaker 2: Like I couldn't move for a second when it was happening,
- 45:03Speaker 2: and I was just like, what the fuck was that?
- 45:08Speaker 1: And how did you feel after that?
- 45:10Speaker 2: I just remember it being like what the hell was that?
- 45:17Speaker 2: And cure it, you.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Know, like yeah, yeah, oh look, it's this stuff. You know.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Maybe one day, by the way, for everyone who thinks,
- 45:27Speaker 1: oh he's lost it, yeah, well I've always felt like this,
- 45:31Speaker 1: and I've always I think a lot of you know that.
- 45:34Speaker 1: But at the same time, this doesn't mean i'd discount
- 45:37Speaker 1: the brain or the mind. I'm literally doing a PhD
- 45:39Speaker 1: in the mind. I love it. I'm fascinated with it all,
- 45:42Speaker 1: and I'm also well aware of placebos. I'm also well
- 45:45Speaker 1: aware that we can manufacture experiences without knowing it. I'm
- 45:49Speaker 1: well aware of that. But yeah, I just look, I
- 45:55Speaker 1: am fascinated with what there is to know, what there
- 46:01Speaker 1: is to experience, what there is to access beyond what
- 46:05Speaker 1: we think there is. And I think, you know, like
- 46:08Speaker 1: I think I'm a relatively educated person, and i'm I am.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I'm not completely objective, of course, I don't think anyone
- 46:18Speaker 1: is completely objective, because everyone's individual experience is literally subjective.
- 46:24Speaker 1: But I'm a lot more open and willing to be wrong.
- 46:28Speaker 1: And which is why I say I don't say this
- 46:31Speaker 1: is how it is. I say this is how I
- 46:34Speaker 1: think it is. This is what I've experienced and everything
- 46:38Speaker 1: that when I tell you these things, these are actual,
- 46:41Speaker 1: literal events. These are not you know, we're not talking
- 46:45Speaker 1: about a vision I had or you know, these are
- 46:47Speaker 1: just things that happened. And you know, I think the
- 46:52Speaker 1: more that you like open the door to collaborate and
- 46:56Speaker 1: connect with and pay attention to your body. For example,
- 47:02Speaker 1: the grady your self awareness and self understanding develops like
- 47:08Speaker 1: you understanding you, you understanding what your body is saying
- 47:13Speaker 1: to your mind and your brain so that you can
- 47:16Speaker 1: go do something. And I think I think it's quite
- 47:20Speaker 1: the And again this, you know, probably will come in
- 47:24Speaker 1: for criticism, but I think it's arrogant to think that
- 47:28Speaker 1: the only knowledge and truth and wisdom is with humans
- 47:33Speaker 1: is like is just lives within the mind of us
- 47:37Speaker 1: Homo sapiens. We because what we do is we go
- 47:42Speaker 1: you know, Well that doesn't make sense, so that can't
- 47:45Speaker 1: be true. Well, how about that doesn't make sense meaning
- 47:50Speaker 1: I don't understand it, meaning it doesn't fit within our
- 47:54Speaker 1: scientific box. That we've created for us all to live in.
- 47:58Speaker 1: But so did many things over the centuries, right, which
- 48:02Speaker 1: now in the box, they're out of the box, you know,
- 48:06Speaker 1: how about it doesn't make sense to me, But also
- 48:10Speaker 1: it could be true. I just think that's a better
- 48:13Speaker 1: paradigm because we all say, oh, yeah, I want to
- 48:16Speaker 1: be teachable, I want to be able to unlearn, I
- 48:19Speaker 1: want to be open minded. Yeah, but just don't contradict
- 48:22Speaker 1: what I already believe. Well, that is the opposite of
- 48:26Speaker 1: humility and awareness and open mindedness. That is the opposite.
- 48:30Speaker 1: But that is like my experience is that almost everyone
- 48:34Speaker 1: who says I'm open minded is not open minded because
- 48:38Speaker 1: they're scared. They're scared because they don't you know, when
- 48:43Speaker 1: you believe something like it's very even when I go,
- 48:47Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a God, Now that's just
- 48:49Speaker 1: the truth. Also, the truth is I believe in a God.
- 48:54Speaker 1: But believing in something is not the same as knowing something.
- 48:58Speaker 1: And this bothers people to this distinction. Well, literally, faith
- 49:03Speaker 1: is believing something you can't prove, Otherwise it wouldn't be
- 49:06Speaker 1: called faith. It to be called data, evidence, knowledge, science, whatever.
- 49:10Speaker 1: But even when we do think we know stuff, i e.
- 49:14Speaker 1: The food pyramid is the best way to eat. We
- 49:16Speaker 1: often find out the thing that we knew in inverted
- 49:19Speaker 1: commas was actually a flawed assumption or flawed knowledge, you know.
- 49:25Speaker 1: So this is the and you know, this is one
- 49:29Speaker 1: of my favorite conversations with you of all time. You know.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And I just think that, you know, these conversations where
- 49:37Speaker 1: we're not trying to we're just thinking out loud. We're
- 49:41Speaker 1: not trying to twist any arms, We're not trying to
- 49:44Speaker 1: shape any belief systems. We're just going, fuck, who knows,
- 49:47Speaker 1: I don't know. And you know how many and I'm
- 49:50Speaker 1: not saying we're great, We're not great, But you know
- 49:52Speaker 1: how many people get on and they're trying to push
- 49:55Speaker 1: a certain agenda or idea or way and we're going, fuck,
- 49:58Speaker 1: we don't know, could be, this could be. But hey,
- 50:01Speaker 1: this is what happened to me. Hey, this is what
- 50:03Speaker 1: I used to think. This is what I think now. Hey,
- 50:06Speaker 1: I used to be a little bit of a zealous
- 50:08Speaker 1: you know, I used to be a little bit of
- 50:09Speaker 1: you know, living in the Jesus echo chamber, and I
- 50:13Speaker 1: was just too scared to even open the door to
- 50:16Speaker 1: you know, and it wasn't that I became anti God
- 50:20Speaker 1: at all, clearly, It was just that there were there.
- 50:24Speaker 1: The stuff that I struggled with was not the God
- 50:26Speaker 1: stuff as much as the human stuff surrounding. Because every human,
- 50:30Speaker 1: even if they're a preacher, you know, or a rabbi
- 50:35Speaker 1: or a priest, or a pastor or a nun or whatever,
- 50:41Speaker 1: every human, every one of them, is still a human
- 50:43Speaker 1: with all their own bullshit. You think that because someone's
- 50:46Speaker 1: a pastor, that they never tell a lie, that they
- 50:49Speaker 1: never have the ego, that they never manipulate people, that
- 50:51Speaker 1: they never fucking embrace the power that they don't of
- 50:55Speaker 1: course they do. That's not because they're bad, because they're human.
- 50:59Speaker 1: We have to stop putting people up on altars and
- 51:03Speaker 1: worshiping humans, for God's sake, stop worshiping people you know nobody.
- 51:11Speaker 1: There are people that are really good at stuff, and
- 51:12Speaker 1: they have hot, big brands and you know, high profiles,
- 51:16Speaker 1: and good on them, good on them, but they ain't
- 51:19Speaker 1: any better than any of you listening to this. And
- 51:22Speaker 1: I'm not saying that as a feel good kind of
- 51:24Speaker 1: fucking you know vibe. They're not. And the problem is
- 51:30Speaker 1: we live in a culture where people think they are
- 51:34Speaker 1: They're prettier, they're smarter, they earn more dough, they're better.
- 51:37Speaker 1: They're not better. They're not better. And that's part of
- 51:39Speaker 1: the problem, is that we compare ourselves to people, and
- 51:44Speaker 1: you know, we it's a real challenge to be able
- 51:48Speaker 1: to go, who am I beyond what I think and
- 51:50Speaker 1: what I believe and you know, these things that I've
- 51:53Speaker 1: held on to through gritted teeth for so long. And
- 51:57Speaker 1: when I do an inventory on my beliefs and ideas
- 52:02Speaker 1: and my thinking and the consequences of all of that
- 52:05Speaker 1: over the last ten twenty years, oh, maybe I need
- 52:09Speaker 1: to revisit what I think and what I believe and why.
- 52:14Speaker 2: When we had a recent conversation with I think it
- 52:17Speaker 2: was with doctor Jody, you mentioned sometimes you feel like
- 52:23Speaker 2: you haven't achieved enough. Yes, what's the context of that.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's just I feel like, firstly, I'm very grateful
- 52:36Speaker 1: for my life, right I don't I don't.
- 52:43Speaker 2: Have spiritual enough? Or is that it is that it
- 52:47Speaker 2: is that a human enough? Or is that more on
- 52:49Speaker 2: the conversation we're having now, Yeah, No, I.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Guess, I guess actually in both ways. But like, while
- 52:55Speaker 1: I look back and I remember, I clearly remember how
- 52:59Speaker 1: I felt and who I was, you know, as you know,
- 53:03Speaker 1: a very mediocre teenager growing up in the country. At
- 53:08Speaker 1: least I thought I was an I probably still think
- 53:10Speaker 1: I was quite mediocre. I don't think I was a
- 53:12Speaker 1: bad kid. I think I was a good kid. But
- 53:16Speaker 1: in one way, I look at what I've done and
- 53:19Speaker 1: some of the things I've achieved, and I'm proud without
- 53:23Speaker 1: being arrogant, but I also think I could do more
- 53:27Speaker 1: like I have this and even as I get older.
- 53:31Speaker 1: The this is going to sound arrogant, but I'm going.
- 53:37Speaker 2: To say it.
- 53:37Speaker 1: I feel like my purpose is to help as many
- 53:41Speaker 1: people as I can realize, and by realize I mean
- 53:47Speaker 1: understand their potential, but also realize means to put interaction
- 53:51Speaker 1: and to operationalize their own potential. I feel like and
- 53:56Speaker 1: to support people, and I feel like that's what I
- 54:01Speaker 1: meant to do, and I feel like I'm meant to
- 54:09Speaker 1: be a version of love to others. You know, on Friday,
- 54:14Speaker 1: when I did this gig, one of the guys who
- 54:18Speaker 1: owns I won't say, I won't embarrass anyone, but he
- 54:22Speaker 1: got up and he was saying something about me. In
- 54:24Speaker 1: the day. He's one of the bosses. And he's a sweetheart,
- 54:28Speaker 1: and he was up in front of the group and
- 54:31Speaker 1: you know, he started crying. This is a boss at
- 54:36Speaker 1: work in front of everyone, standing next to me and
- 54:39Speaker 1: in front of everyone. I gave him a hug, right,
- 54:43Speaker 1: And it's when we get past the bullshit and we
- 54:45Speaker 1: go I'm a man, I'm in front of my team,
- 54:49Speaker 1: and I'm like, yes, mate, you can cry, one hundred percent.
- 54:53Speaker 1: You can cry. This is not you being weak or
- 54:56Speaker 1: bad or broken or inferior. This is you being fucking
- 54:59Speaker 1: real and and it's so admirable. Right. So yeah, I
- 55:04Speaker 1: just think that my purpose is to help people understand
- 55:07Speaker 1: or find theirs, not guided by me, but you know,
- 55:11Speaker 1: supported by me, whatever that is. And I don't think
- 55:14Speaker 1: i've done that well enough. I think I've done it, Okay,
- 55:19Speaker 1: I want to do more of it. And if there's
- 55:23Speaker 1: a God, if God said to me, for the rest
- 55:27Speaker 1: of your life, I will bring audiences to you. But
- 55:31Speaker 1: you've got to live in next to poverty. I would
- 55:33Speaker 1: say I'm in next door to poverty. I'm in because
- 55:39Speaker 1: I'm not interested in you know, I like a normal human,
- 55:42Speaker 1: I'm interested in money, but I'm not driven by money
- 55:45Speaker 1: at all. And I think you know that it's like
- 55:46Speaker 1: I'm not I don't give a fuck about what people
- 55:50Speaker 1: think of my financial situation or you know. And it's
- 55:55Speaker 1: not that I don't care at all about money, of
- 55:57Speaker 1: course I do. But for me, money is a resource.
- 56:00Speaker 1: But yeah, I would rather And I've said this before,
- 56:03Speaker 1: if you say, Harps, you can talk to ten thousand
- 56:06Speaker 1: people tonight at Votaphone Arena or fifty people across the
- 56:11Speaker 1: road for ten grand I'm going Votaphone Arena every time,
- 56:14Speaker 1: even if there's no coverage, even if there's no social media,
- 56:17Speaker 1: even if no one knows about it except the ten
- 56:20Speaker 1: thousand people, even if I get zero accolades that I'm
- 56:24Speaker 1: in there, you know. So I think because I had
- 56:29Speaker 1: moderate success when I was in my early thirties, and
- 56:32Speaker 1: I had more stuff than I ever thought i'd have,
- 56:36Speaker 1: you know, multiple houses, cars, all that shit. In the
- 56:39Speaker 1: middle of all of the stuff that I had, it's
- 56:41Speaker 1: like I had this. It's like almost God went, okay,
- 56:45Speaker 1: so you got all the stuff, Now what do you know?
- 56:47Speaker 1: And I go, it's not about the stuff. It's not
- 56:50Speaker 1: about the stuff. Stuff's good. But yeah, so for me,
- 56:55Speaker 1: that that and also being you know, like I think
- 57:00Speaker 1: also to you know, you don't want to beat yourself
- 57:03Speaker 1: up constantly, you know, and go I'm shit. And I
- 57:08Speaker 1: have a tendency to do that, but I need to
- 57:11Speaker 1: rain that in a little bit. But yeah, I think
- 57:13Speaker 1: being of service, being of value and building that love
- 57:17Speaker 1: bank balance, and that spiritual bank balance, and that kindness
- 57:20Speaker 1: bank balance, and even if it doesn't come back, even
- 57:23Speaker 1: if it doesn't come back, you know, you just like
- 57:27Speaker 1: the New Testament. There's a scripture which a shamedly I
- 57:31Speaker 1: can't quote, right. I know the scripture, I can't remember
- 57:34Speaker 1: where it's from, but it says when you give, like
- 57:37Speaker 1: in other words, when you're giving to Jesus was in
- 57:40Speaker 1: the temple and he was talking to the Pharisees and
- 57:44Speaker 1: Sadducees and people that like some of the religious, because
- 57:49Speaker 1: what the religious would do back in the day in
- 57:51Speaker 1: the temples, would they were some of them would come
- 57:53Speaker 1: in with like a big treasure chest of gold and
- 57:56Speaker 1: go look at me, look at me, right, And it
- 57:59Speaker 1: wasn't really about making a sacrifice to God. It was
- 58:01Speaker 1: really about getting social brownie points and all of that.
- 58:06Speaker 1: And he said, when you give given secret he said,
- 58:10Speaker 1: don't let your left hand, know what your right hand's doing.
- 58:13Speaker 1: And he pointed out this old lady that was up
- 58:16Speaker 1: the front of the synagogue and she had one gold
- 58:20Speaker 1: coin and that was all of her wealth in the world,
- 58:24Speaker 1: So that was one hundred percent of her wealth. And
- 58:29Speaker 1: he knew that, and he said, basically, that's that lady.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Is that lady's truly giving, Like she's given the most
- 58:36Speaker 1: of anyone today, you know, because she gave one hundred
- 58:38Speaker 1: percent of what she had to give, you know. So
- 58:43Speaker 1: I feel like I've gotten back up on the pulpit.
- 58:45Speaker 1: I apologize everyone.
- 58:47Speaker 2: One last god question and then you can wrap it up.
- 58:51Speaker 2: Do you have how do you perceive personally if you
- 58:55Speaker 2: want to share, or how do you interpret other gods
- 59:00Speaker 2: of other religions? Are they an interpretation of the same.
- 59:06Speaker 1: Oh that's all so really smart. Yeah, look, yeah, that
- 59:14Speaker 1: is a good question. So, you know, like the God
- 59:19Speaker 1: of the Jews, which is the god of the Old Testament.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Jews don't believe that the New Testament is. I think
- 59:26Speaker 1: they think it's, you know, a religious text that's interesting maybe,
- 59:31Speaker 1: but they don't they don't use it as a theological text.
- 59:35Speaker 1: They don't believe. I think I don't believe. They think
- 59:38Speaker 1: it's inspired by God or it's the word of God.
- 59:43Speaker 1: Of course, Muslims call God Allah, you know, Christians in
- 59:52Speaker 1: the in the Hebrew God is Yahweh or Hashem, and
- 59:59Speaker 1: you know, so that is a question I can't answer.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: But what I think is on some level, most of
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: us are talking about the same dude, right, And you know,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: as for Christians, Christians religions that believe in multiple gods,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I don't believe that. But again that's just what I
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: believe and don't believe. I don't believe that. But that's like,
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: like I've said, who knows, one day I might find out, Hey,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: that right, you were wrong, and I'll go my hands
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: in the air emoji fuck who knew? You know? You know,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: It's like I don't know, I don't know, but you know,
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: so in terms of all of that, I like, what
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: do I hope out of this conversation? I don't know.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I just I hope that even if people just question,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: that maybe there is more than we think, and maybe
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: what we understand is just what we understand, it's not
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: what there is to be understood, you know, and that
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: that having thoughts or beliefs or values or not values, thoughts, beliefs, ideas, ideologies,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: theologies that you have embraced that could be a bit
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: wrong or a lot wrong. Is okay? Is okay? It
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: is uncomfortable, but it is okay. You know so. And
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: there are things within Christian doctrine that you know, I
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: question and I go, oh, that's that's hard for me.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know. I actually don't. It's
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: not like, well my opinion on that is. I go,
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: I don't fucking know. I don't know, you know, And
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: but it's it's I do know that when I open
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: myself up to uh be directed or in or I
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: don't know, spoken to for one of a better word,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I know that generally it happens. And sometimes, honestly, sometimes
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: I just pull the curtain down and put the you know,
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: closed sign on the door, and I shut myself down
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: from God. You know, I'm like, don't want to hear,
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: don't want to hear, don't want to hear because I
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: know what I'm going to be told and I don't
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: want to deal with it. Yeah, so I'm selfish. Yeah,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: for sure.
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: Next time you're having a chat to him, can you
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: just tell him to ease up on the whole cat
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: stuff and just come and have a chat with me.
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: I'm cre it is, but don't ask me. Ask him
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: like one if he's real. If he's real, don't be scared.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: You know. There is a scripture that says fear God.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: It's one of the shortest scriptures in the Bible. Another
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: one is Jesus wept. It's like these two word scriptures. Anyway,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: what did I I this scripture? I was thinking about
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: this morning. It is they use this a lot with
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: people who I don't like war, by the way, but
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: soldiers that go to fight for their country. At their
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: funerals they often have this scription. It's is Sire six eight,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: which is from the Old Testament, and it says, M
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: and the Lord said who will I send? Who will go?
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: And I said, I am here, I will go. You know,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, And when I hear that, I'm like,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: because sometimes the things that God wants you to do,
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: if there's a God, they are not the things you
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: want to do. Like you don't want to put yourself
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: in the middle of shits or chaos or pain or uncertainty.
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: But I just think that not indifferent to you know,
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: just developing resilience. You know, that's sometimes opening that door
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: doesn't make sense to you. Sometimes eventually it makes the
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: most sense, the most sense. It goes from making no
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: sense to all the sense. You know, Wow, I did
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: not expect this conversation tonight, and I don't think we're
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: going to put it up TIV.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: Bullshit. No, I loved it. This is my favorite. I mean,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: I'm going to talk about bloody dead lifts and shit again.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: And yeah, wow, there we go. God took, God hijacked
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the program. God went a yeah, God went, well, you
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: think you're talking about all that superficial. I was going
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: to swear then, but I'm pretty sure God doesn't swear.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: But anyway, the show that God hijacked, that's great. All right, everyone,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: love your gats's love you, and you know, let us
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: know what you think. By the way, if you hated it,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: that's okay, let us know. Go I hated it, go
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: to the new project facebook page. Or if you liked it,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: or you found it interesting or helpful or unhelpful, whatever
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: you found it, that's okay. That's okay. Say goodbye a
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: fair but TIF thanks Amen hearts, Oh sister, loving the
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Lord's wrung I don't want to be raped. Yeah,
