- TCM9: No. It's it's a tank. It looks like a G unit bra. Welcome to the Revisitation Rights Podcast. I'm Pat. We don't fuck up this show too. I'm Justin, man. my And today we ha we finally have the last installment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Shitty ass movie, bro. Entitled The Texas Chainsaw Massacre twenty twenty three. so I'm gonna need I'm gonna need a nice monologue from Brandon right now about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series and what it means to him because he's the one that picked it. I'm still reigning the I'm still ranking the beginning as my favorite. So we'll get we'll get to the rankings at the end. just as a as a general feel overall of the franchise before we get into the show. Not that bad. And we're in the month of October, so I've been watching pretty much every Halloween Epic series that's I guess regarded as something as one of the best. And I'm like, this actually isn't that bad compared to the later stages of Friday the thirteenth, some of the later stages of Nightmare on Elm Street. I actually saw something on Twitter yesterday and there was a debate about if Gate Ghostface is actually on the I guess the Mount Rushmore, but people still really regard Leatherface, this series, this franchise, as one of the best. And I think that it's Stand it's still the test of time. A hundred percent. Tony. We might we might we might disagree with the quality, but in terms of just people wanting to see people get fucked up with chainsaws, it's never going away. See, my my thing with that is you I don't feel like you get enough of it. enough chainsaw violence. there's one or two every show, every every film. I I want more. if if I if I'm wanna see a Leatherface movie, I wanna see him I want to see a Texas chainsaw massacre. I don't want to see one or two people getting fucking sliced up with a chainsaw. No. I want to see a Texas chainsaw massacre. I don't think I've gotten that any t even even with the two that I one I semi liked and one I really liked, even with those, I don't think I got that. You may speak, sir. Another question is there is a possibility that they intentionally toned down the series. And I bel I I would have to remember. I can go back and look, but I think The beginning was NC seventeen, but I think everyone else was rated R. So obviously with Chainsaw's killing, they probably want to temper that so that they have a wider ability to reach their audience. Like even when you think about many of the Halloween movies didn't have a ton of killing. Like even the first Halloween was pretty clean. I mean, Nightmare Elm Street was pretty graphic and many of their movies. Friday thirteenth also had some pretty gruesome kills, but Overall, even if you look at the stream series, Hellraiser, y it could be up for interpretation in terms of the kills, but there were some graphic parts, but ton of many of these movies that we highly regard as up there in the the horror echelon don't have like just brutal, brutal kills. But they do have the quantity. Yeah, but they also have more people. But we which also we didn't get that with Texas Chainsaw. But all those movies have bigger budgets. Really, than this one. You can kill a person relatively cheap. So I've heard from allegedly. Maybe they went maybe they want to pay for a lot of people. I mean, you get a you get a little background. Don't have them say anything. Just have them walking in the street and fucking chainsaw 'Cause wasn't wasn't so Leatherface was done in what? Bul we we said the last episode was done in Bulgaria. So then I think that's Yeah, so then you had the time to go all in, right? No, I what I was gonna say was then if you're hiring a ton of Americans and you gotta pay for visa work visas, you gotta pay for their accommodation. So that probably nah. When you start crunching the numbers. And it was also direct T V when they were kinda not as popular as what they were. So they were probably looking at the month the the budget, the numbers and saying, This is what we can do, this is what we can give you. I don't know. I have to look it up, but I I believe that we got the least amount of kills for a horror series in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Maybe Halloween, but Halloween is also not called the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You know, a massacre is not three people. To me, at least. I think it is I think a actual massacre is three or more people. I think three or more I think that's a Mass shooting. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry about that. I'm so sorry. That's how dissensitized me over to shit. My morality says a massacre is one is is you know, one person is one too many. But it as terms to like horror villain characters, bro. He I mean he sews for fuck's sakes, man. You still hung up on him sewing? Like, go fucking sell people, dude. Yo, once he sewed, Justin tapped out. That was it. He had he had nothing to say afterwards. Bro, I was like, bro, I did this shit junior year, bro. And I did a better job at sewing than he did. At that. Bro, and and he's a bro. You know what, man? The third episode he brought up the sewing. He's he's so pissed about the sewing. It's cuz because it's like, bro, I'm supposed to be scared of this guy. Bro. I'm not gonna lie. I rewatched all these films as an adult. First first O three film, I was terrified. First remake, I was terrified as a kid. I was like, what is that? my god, who is this person? Found footage is scary as fuck. Whatever. As an adult, I'm like, bro, some some because he he's he is a he's huge, is in the he is a I'm not even trying to that's crazy. You know what? You got it. Finally it wasn't me. You know what? Whatever, dude. You got it. Whatever. I recant that statement. Go ahead. So he was a Yeah, bro. The first two remakes, bro, was like he had a large stature, like so it's like all right, some critical thinking though, and I can like Juke this guy and get the fuck out, bro. And the I don't know, bro. It was such it wasn't like I watched all these films and yo First of all, none of these people have common sense. Some common sense. And I'm and and I'm alright. I'm fine. there's no s there's no there's no hopelessness in in that. they have to the hopelessness has to bank on the stupidity of the victims. And it's like it's like at that point, it's like, I mean, whatever. You know, it's not it's not as intriguing as like even the smart person is getting fucked, you know, and getting slaughtered with the fucking chainsaw because you know. That's why, bro, I would put the collector over Leatherface. How many collector movies are there? I th two, three? Two or three. Don't count. what'd we what do we say it had to have? It had to have Five or seven? I remember there was some rule we had for the for the show. This looks like some SNM, some BDSM stuff. I'm just looking at his face of the collector. Bro, the hi his his thing is during the day he's an exterminator. But what he does is he'll he'll set booby traps and bug the entire house. So then when he comes back as the collector, as a serial killer. Whatever he is. a torture connoisseur, I guess. you know, the victims smart enough to lock their doors, smart enough to do this, smart enough to do that. Some of them are dumb. That's besides the point. But there is like a sense of hopelessness where it's like the dude's running, he has everything intact, and then he gets tripped over by some bullshit that this exterminator, you know. So it's like it's more intriguing. It's more it's more mental. Keep your attention. Yeah. rather than Leatherface fucking trying to sew off a a new face that he just ripped because the dude's like, Yo, where's what's all my weed? And he gets fucking so Whatever, bro. I'm over I'm over Leatherface, dude. Sewing the scandal probably would be more difficult than fabric. I I'm just gonna say that. So Well, that's how they practice tattooing, right? They practice tattooing on pig skin. But are they sewing it? 'Cause that the Well, it's sewed it's sewed onto in shapes of Yeah. it's sewed onto mannequins in the shape of an arm, a leg, a back, and then that that's how they that's how some well, that's how they used to practice. I don't think you could do that nowadays, but No, it's inhumane. You know, I I know. Yeah, you ever seen baby pigs, bro? They're so cute. How could you do that, dude? Well, I don't eat pork, so I'm not I try to avoid it. Man. I avoided as much as possible. Listen, Christmas, I'm I'm Puerto Rican and Cuban. Christmas dinner, it's hard to avoid pork, man. The penny comes out. The pine comes out. I'm like, fuck. This is this is difficult. But you know, gotta be disciplined, you know? Let me get the let me get the chicken. I I try I try not to. I mean, there's some things I won't like there's a let me get the steak. There's a place on Lynd in Brooklyn on Linden Boulevard. it's a sausage and pepper truck. That's pretty much the only if I get it, that's the only pork I'm gonna eat. Otherwise I try to so good. That's the only time I'll eat pork and the only time I'll eat onions. Onions are fire. You ever eat raw onions like an apple? I hate onions. I won't I won't eat onion. You gotta eat onions and then kiss someone right after. Kiss Melissa right after you eat onions. I know it sounds crazy, but it's really healthy for you if you eat it pretty much like an apple. Yeah, no, I'm good. I'd I'd rather fucking die, whatever death I'm gonna do than beets too, but but you eat beets for other things, so beets are beets are don't eat beets either. Beets are disgusting. Beets beets are good for service. What? Yo, I eat beets like apples. no. When we went after after we were shooting a film, Brandon get we went to the diner, Brandon gets a turkey burger with a slice of beet on it. Yeah. Shout out beef. Turkey burgers. Yeah, turkey burger's a gas too. Yeah, shout out shout out to Who gets a turkey burger at a diner, first of all? So I don't I don't eat beef either. Eggs or you get a burger. That's it. I don't eat beef. He don't rock with none of the beef. That's blasphemous. Environmental concerns. We just did a podcast on environmental concerns and you know, y'all eating that shit that's fucking up the ozone layer. Yeah. What about that? I told you I'm I'm a I'm on the back nine of life. So I don't got that much longer. Fuck up as much as you want. I'm eating the steak. He said, give me the burger with the mozzarella cheese on it, bro. Stop playing. Add bacon on that. No bacon bacon. It's turkey. No. I I don't got much longer left. So I'm eating my steak. Beef bacon. I had a nice fucking skirt steak. That big. my god, but Chimichuri? I don't think I've had a sta or any beef in since our Lord and Savior two thousand ten. That's fire. Cold How's that journey? No, I was gonna say Blake Bortles, UCF, quarterback. The the real Lord and Savior is Kobe. So not LeBron, tell you that. Definitely not LeBron. Yeah. Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I'm gonna say Coke. Anyway, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I I feel like I didn't get enough massacre. You're getting cancelled, bro. I think they really I don't I don't want to get into that yet. I want to still talk about the the series as a whole first before we get into the fuckery that was the last one. But I I feel like they had such an opportunity to make an amazing series. The concept of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in and of itself is great. I just don't think they went about it in the right way. They if they would have bettered if they would have made advancements on the part one, I think it would have it would have been a better series as a whole. And then if they would have continued with the remake, like if they would have like all right, we had the Jessica Beale one, then you had the prequel. Which explained how that one came. And now if you pick up the next one right from the end of the Jessica Beale one, was that the that was just the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, right? Yeah. The O three. The first thing. So I just call it the Jessica Beale one because that's everybody remembers that one. So you pick up right from there, you have a better all-around franchise. But to make it so random, like part two, you had a satire with I l I love the coloring of it and you know shit like that. But it was a terrible movie. Then you have three, which was a standard. It was just standard. Like there was nothing memorable. There was nothing to hate. There was nothing to love. It was just there. It just existed. Four was fucking miserable. Then you have seven, eight, and nine, which were No, they had the Guitar Hero commercial. Yeah. That's that's all you that's all you remember from that's all you remember from three. So it's it's I just think they botched so many opportunities to make it really, really good. I under I understand like the idea of Leatherface is a great horror icon. The idea of him. But what we actually got is not, to me. So it I I think the idea and the concept. completely outweighs the product that we got. I was gonna say the same thing, dude. If you take out if you take out all the films and just keep the first one, the first remake and the prequel, it would be so much of a stronger character because you have none of that bullshit fluff around it. You know, that there even though there's less films, if someone you know, even with that with that resume of a horror character, it was just those three films, someone talented enough could probably look at it and be like, all right, I could do I could do something serious with this. You know, to whereas like they're looking at this they're looking at the history of it and there's too many places that it went. So it kinda it dilutes the the the the seriousness of Leatherface at that point. So it's like You know, it's like, all right, do I wanna do I wanna hit up this this production company? Do I wanna hit up Lionsgate? Do I wanna hit up whoever the fuck that wants to try and fund this? Will they be willing to fund this? Do I wanna put this much work into swaying this fucking franchise, this that and the third? So it's like at that point you just make your own horror character from the beginning and you start a new film. You know what you know what's funny? When last week Brandon asked me, he's like, what would you do rewrite it. I was like, nothing. I don't wanna, I wouldn't want to, I didn't like the franchise enough to rewrite it. So that's how I get a lot of my work done. I get a lot of my work done in the gym. So I come up, I listen to a lot of instrumentals, and what it does is it kind of brings up some idea. Why? Kind of brings up some ideas. But wait, wait, what? Pause on what? Instrumentals. No, I said Phil Collins. No, you can't listen to Phil Collins in the gym. It don't work. Yeah, I I sent him a screenshot of something the other day. I feel good that I don't know who that is. You don't know who Phil Collins is? Yeah, I'm cutting your mic. I'm cutting. Fuck that. You wanna know who Phil Collins is. Yeah, your your your taste in music is sus at most. Yeah. So yo, he's so I sent him a screenshot of something. I don't remember what it was, but I sent him a screenshot of something and It was in the morning, so I was at the gym and I had what I had I had Wu Tang. So Wu Tang was playing and he's fucking he threw a fucking titty attack. What are you listening to Wu Tang for? Bro, shout out Wu Tang, bro. What? You gotta you gotta listen to Dubstep in the gym, bro. I've only listened to I think one Wu Tang song. Like I tried to listen to Ender the Thirty Six Chambers, I couldn't I couldn't do it. I'm not from that era. So that doesn't appeal to me. But don't don't you say we're from the same we're the same generation? Hmm? shit. Don't you say we're from the f same generation? I'm saying. Shut out O'D B, bro. I got your light graph right here, dog. Who ten years Universal? No. We don't we've never played we never played the only thing that we played down south that was New York would be Dipset. Which is trash. Nah, it's nice. Best team in the game. In the nineties, not in the two thousands. But I grew up with Bootsy, Webby, Master P. Webby's fire. Master P's fire. Yo, Strat. Master P is nice at ball, bro. He tried out for the Raptors. And I think he almost made it. And this is the I think this is during T Mac time, bro. So this motherfucker was nice, bro. Shout out massive, bro. Invest invest in our podcast. What's up? Talk to us, man. talk to Pat first, then then then talk to Brad. No, no, no, don't talk to me. so yeah, like I don't I just don't like what what the product we got from the Texas Chainswell Massacre. I I was expecting Like I said, I was expecting a massacre and I didn't get it. so I it just disappointed me on every level. the cinematography I loved in one and two, looking back at it, the cinematography was good in two. I just didn't like the film. But then it fell off. Like three, four, even five and six. I didn't I didn't it wasn't that I didn't like the cinematography in the remakes. I didn't like the color grade. So that kind of throws it off a little bit. And then seven, eight, and I don't know what the fuck nine was. So Yeah. Not the way it ended, the way the series so we're at nine at nine films total. There's there's not a ten. So the way it ended with this Was it a girl? A they whatever? Okay. I'm just saying, I'm just saying, I gotta ask. So when she was I I offended enough people in the Wally episode, I'm sure we're gonna It's like don't do that. driving off in a fucking Tesla on autopilot. And that's it. What a way to end the thing. Just getting fucking chainsawed and a Tesla on autopilot. Coming from the cannibalistic family to a Tesla on autopilot. Was it the plaid? I don't even think it was a plaid. And I think it was like the Y. It wasn't even the X. See, if the doors went up this way, she probably would have saved her life. Alright, so let's get into I just wish the remake. If it was the plaid, it would have been so like a better experience for her, man. She maybe she would've experienced like going at a you know, zero sixty in you know, half a second or whatever the fuck does. You know, like, damn, this is cool before getting slaughtered. I don't know. That sucks. So the plot of this is the third attempt at a re at a reboot, right? There's no continuation of this, right, Brandon? No. Nothing planned. It's n moment. Weren't there rumors to be a new one? After this. But he's not gonna he's not doing a continuation of the gentrification of we don't know. Texas changeover. But it's a different property, I believe, 'cause I think A twenty four's behind this one, maybe. so it's gonna have a bad ending. No. A twenty four cannot end a movie. Positive about the the girls. So the the last actress that survived in this movie, she was in, I'm not sure if you've ever seen eighth grade. No. It's it's A twenty-four film. It's like early on, but she was in that movie. It's it's actually a pretty good movie, but it's like a little uncomfortable in a lot of parts. I don't get movies don't make me uncomfortable. What's it about? It's just about this girl who's like awkward and she's trying to meet friends and middle school and she starts this vlog on YouTube. and like she's in just awkward positions, I think, with this one scene where she's like talking to a boy and the boys kinda try to entice her to have sex. And she's underage. So I that was unc a little kinda an awkward silence. Does that make you uncomfortable? No, because there's that that you know, that's a thing with like pressure, coercion and people wanna be they want to be liked so they'll do things that they are not comfortable with. That's kind of what that was alluding to. When you're at that when you're at that young age, as a teenager, you're going through puberty, it can get tricky. I was lucky enough to never fall into peer pressure with Yo, drink this half a bottle of me, bro. Alright, bro. I'm chilling. Alright, so So I'm I'm I think Brandon liked this film. So I want to hear your thoughts on the film. This one actually had a ton of killing. And shout out to Jacob Lattimore who's in this movie. There was So there was about as much killing as there was in I know what you did last summer in this one. The remake that they just came out with last year? Yeah, that bullshit. No, that was good. It was not. It was good. The cast the cast was also amazing. It was I didn't see it to be fair. Don't don't see it. They're coming out with a sequel. I'm not seeing the sequel. I'm tapped out. Cause you saw how the interest one was cool. Yeah, I'm not seeing it on the original. Jennifer Love Hewitt. Just so dumb. It th that right there if it would have ended like a regular way, maybe I would have gone to s I I didn't like it regardless, but maybe I would have gone to see a sequel. But the way they set it up for a cash grab, no. No, it's fan it's a fan service cash grab. But I like the first one, but I saw it when I was between seven to ten years old or something like that. So I was like, but it wasn't like I remember it being a fun experience watching it. a fun scary. See now I'll rank that I'll rank that over screen. As a franchise. I wouldn't. Way more interesting in my opinion. Not over screen. Yeah. I can't. Scream what? Scream is probably, in my opinion, one of the worst horror franchises that ever happened. It's just bad. It's so bad. To me, personally, it's so bad. And that's how I feel about Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Texas Chainsaw Massacre has way more aura, way more swag, way more drip. I feel what Brandon is saying, but the I feel like again, if it was just the first film and then the first remake and the prequel, then he would have so much more aura than he does now. You know what I mean? So Scream One is better than the entire Basura Chainsaw Massacre series and Basura. No, Basura. Basura Sucio. No, no. the first screen was really, really good, bro. That was like a that's like that was a staple film. If I was hard, I if I was if I was hard, I would be soft the entire movie. Something something happened during that movie to Brandon that makes him not like it. No, I just don't think it's good. It's not scary. It's not meant to be scary. I'm surprised you like this because Brandon, why did you just that you don't? so you can't have sex? Go do some push ups to the gym. I don't even sound like that. That's why you gotta need to eat your beats for blood flow. Yeah, every every time he makes fun of me, he's gotta do this. Like I'm some fucking little umpa loompa. Getting mad and stomping. It's like, you're you're gonna kill people because you didn't have sex? Like what? Pat, we're short, man. Sorry, man. We're short. Yeah, but he was he was banging others, so it's all right. Hey man, there is still VHSs at that point. Just rewind them so your dad doesn't find out. That's all you gotta do. But anyway, I I I do want to hear Brandon's thoughts on the f like without joking. I'm gonna try to get through it, but I I want to hear the jokes on the the gentrification of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This was a more menacing, scary version of Lotherface that we got, and he the grandma or his mom, the caretaker for him, was really kind of keeping him at ease, at bay. So when she has a heart attack and she dies, then he just goes off the rail. And that's when he just starts. I mean, that bus scene alone, he slaughtered the entire everyone there. So I think in this movie we did see way more kills than what we did. We got way more kills. And then the mechanic guy, Jacob Lattimore's face was just like halfway off. Yeah. This was good. I mean, it's it's again, it's it's I personally can't remember. Too many movies recently that Netflix has put out that's been good quality. So this is on par with just what they do. Yeah, I guess I see your point there. It was just as shitty as everything else they put out. All those been active movies too. Was it good, but it wasn't bad. The last one was trash. Last one was trash. Was it was it better quality because was it better was it better quality for Netflix, I guess? for the films that you watched because it was familiar horror character with a decent film attached to it. So the in good thing I remember this, but the writer for this one was Fetty Feddy Avaraz, which he wrote the remake to Evil Dead, the one that came out in 2013. I'm just I'm just gonna say, fellow Hispanic, shout out to you. And that movie was amazing. I'm I'm not sure if either either of you have seen that one, but that first one is good. I think the first Evil Dead was good, the second one was good, the third one was but I saw that he was announced to write this one, so I thought it was gonna be amazing and Yeah, the first one was cool. I like that one. It didn't really hold up, but it wasn't bad in comparison to the other ones. Like I was still probably in terms of like a scary factor, it probably would have been Above two. Like it probably would be a little bit higher up there for me. Kills are gruesome. What about the story of it? Some of the stuff you could have you could have probably have taken away. like the whole mass shooting thing. I don't really kind of know where that was there, but I think the gentrification part is it's accurate because you you have younger people who are looking at smaller places to revitalize, rejuvenate these communities because they can't live they can't afford to live in these bigger, overpopulated cities anymore. So it makes sense. Like you go anywhere now in this country and people are saying, we gotta go here. this is a new place. This is the new place. So you kind of do see that clash with the locals 'cause they don't want you bringing, I guess, your ideas and opinions to what we already have established. Well you also don't want to bring The point of living in the country is you don't live in the city. it it's not always about opinion and all that and beliefs and everything. It's if you move out to if you move to Texas, you're making a choice not to live in a city. Right? You don't you don't want that city life. You want the country life for yourself. What part of Texas? Wherever they were. I don't I don't know where Shadowside Cities. I think they I think I they imply that they were leaving from Austin, which is a big, big city of young people. Yeah, but I I know a lot of people that move down there and they move right back out. Part of cost of living, I'm assuming. So it's you know depends. It's it's not but I'm talking about where they where the the the the town actually was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know where I think they came I think they came from Austin though. Yeah, yeah. Going to that smaller place. So I think it's more of a a way of life than it is a belief in something like that. I mean, not to say that that's not part of it. I'm sure that's a big part of it. But the reason why you stay there is not you don't want that city life. Yeah. And you don't want that coming in. Like if you can't afford to live in a city, go to a different city. You know, don't go to something and try to make it something that it's not. That that's that's my problem with gentrification is don't bring if you're moving somewhere, you need to assimilate the best your to the best of your ability. don't go bringing shit in there. I feel like there's a fine line between adding in a positive way and then changing it outright to where it's like you're you're damaging you're damaging the area. Yeah, when people go like when you see a lot of Americans go overseas, I'm sure Brandon sees it a whole lot more. But every time we go overseas or something, I try to learn the language. Some basic words just so, I can ask for a bathroom or, you know, order something. Like, you know, not so it's I don't expect everybody to speak English. But then you get a ton of Americans that just go there and then they get mad that people don't speak English. Yeah. Like what's wrong with you? Do you're not even in you're not even in the freaking So like I don't speak Spanish. All right. I speak Spanish like I understand it better than I could speak it. But like if I go to Spain, if I move to Spain or Mexico or whatever, I'm learning the fucking language. Just you know, I'm not gonna sit there and try to force somebody to speak how I speak. Like I I think you need to assimilate to the as best as you can within reason. Like, you know, don't don't come in there and start putting up bean sprout restaurants in this Texas area where nobody's eating nobody's eating fucking bean sprouts and beets and whatever the fuck you're eating. Like you you know beets are fire bro. Beets are good. They're healthy. I had to throw a little shot in there. But but like that you know don't if you're gonna do that don't Just come in there instantly and all right, I wanna change this, I wanna change this, I wanna change this, I wanna change this. Live there. you might like it. don't go sitting there changing everything right off the bat. And yeah, that's it. That was my rant for today. That's happening everywhere, and especially I mean, you two are from New York, so you've been able to see the change. Completely different. And that's what I hear so many native New Yorkers talk about with the gentrification and How everything is so expensive and it's lost this city has lost a lot of its culture and the essence because you just have all these people coming here and it's I mean, even the buildings. They're knocking down the buildings that had the personality and everything kind of has like a same blocky look and it's taking away what makes the city so authentic and it's feel so real. Yeah. So for some context, my mom grew up in Monthaven. The Bronx. So that's South South South Bronx. That's like Sobro now. Yeah, Sobro now, right? So which is crazy. So I went there I want to say within the last two years for a shoot or so yeah, for like a couple shoots. And when I par w first of all, when I was driving around looking for parking and I saw a non a a family owned coffee shop like a artsy coffee shop and a dispensary a state licensed dispensary with a with a nice with nice concrete fucking logo on I was like what is going on here I parked I was like I was like this is a sudden change like this is in this is crazy I used to growing up, I used to go down there and I see you know it was still you know a little rougher. But and it's crazy because like although it was rough, there was still like so much genuine culture. To where it's like you live there, there's a very family oriented feeling where you know all your neighbors, you know you guys are like got eavesdropping into gossip for the good of someone, to make sure they're on the right path. You know, and and I I hope it's still like that, but you know, it's you know, it's very it's it's it's crazy how how how much of a one eighty it it's been. So Yeah man. Very crazy. Just I just had to add that. That's insane. Yeah, it's it's similar because like as a kid we did a lot of traveling around the city. So, you know, hop on a subway, you don't know where you're going, you just go and you get off and you would explore. You go to these places now, you don't recognize them. They're obviously, you know, it's thirty five years later. You obviously, you know, there's gonna be some change. But neighborhoods completely changed. Like there there were neighborhoods back in the day that were like all Italian. Now they're all Pakistanian or like their neighborhoods that were all black, they're now all, you know, Irish or something like They're they just the neighborhoods are actually s just switching over. Yeah. So it's it's you don't it's not even that you don't recognize the buildings, the area, like the people. The people are changing like they're changing. And yeah, like Brenda said, we don't we don't have a culture anymore. It's it's such a melting pot. You know, there's no even the music, the music don't have originality. The movies that come out of here don't have originality. they nothing is original in New York anymore. I think that's sucks. I but I also think that they say in the s 80s to late 90s, even the 2000s, it was much more affordable for artists to be here and afford and kind of thrive. And it's just gotten so expensive for anyone regular who wants to make good authentic art. They want to make movies, they want to do photography, whatever that is, it's you know, there's a there's a big wall where unless you're putting your own money, I mean what what are the chances that you're gonna be able to make it? Unless you obviously meet the right person and then they can kind of help set you up to get there. What is it about New York is thirty five hundred bare minimum per fucking closet in the bathroom? See my thing with that is There are places in New York that are affordable. So there are. I won't say there won't. There there is. When you see those thirty five hundred dollars for a closet, you're talking about hot areas in Manhattan. You go to Brooklyn, you can find affordable living. Where? Yeah. Not where you want to be, but you know, not in the center of, you know, where there's Whole Foods and Equinox and you're not gonna find affordable living there. Why are you throwing a shot at me? I'm not. I'm just saying. you want to be by the photo studios and everything. So, Kenasi, baby. You gotta pay for you gotta pay for that. you wanna be central to other things. You pay basically for what you want to be close to. Kenossy philosophy, man. There are plenty of places in the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island. Do not go to the Bronx, bro. You will you will see your car on bricks. Don't go. And restaurants there, Bronx. Nassau County. Avoid the bride. Even Jersey like Jersey City. Well, Jersey City is they're gentrifying right now, but Hoboken is completely gentrified now. So a hundred percent. There there's plenty of places out there that you can get affordable rent for. Like I know I know a guy, he just got he got himself, well, him and his kid, they got is it's small. Like it's it's a two bedroom, but it's small, 1750 a month. Damn. What? Not far from the train. I need that. so they there's plenty of affordable places. It's just people don't wanna go look. They don't wanna, all right, we don't wanna take that twenty minute train ride into the city. We wanna be in the city. that's well there's caveats too, 'cause it's like, all right, if I have a car, then like I have you know, insurance in that area, and then on top of that, freaking, you know, parking and inconvenience of the train. Is it dangerous? Is it not? Depending on it, like if if it's just you or if you have like a family. You have little kids with you and you have to take on the train with you. so like those are all in question too. But seventeen fifty sounds fire. So so I mean the the kids' room is is pretty small, but it's a kid. Yeah. If you guys have any 1750 links of apartments, let me know. skate homies, if you want to move in with me, split the rent, fuck it. Air mattresses, just do it. Wash your fucking dishes and throw out your garbage, please. I was I was actually gonna say Justin, actually funny enough, a lot of dancers actually that I they actually do live in the Bronx just because it's Easier, it's a lot cheaper and affordable for them, and then it's also next to Fordham. So I'm I'm talking about concert like ballet, modern they tend to live up there. You know why? Because Dykeman is fun as fuck on a Friday. No, no, they it's it's just like I can't also can't it is four in the morning, you get a fresh Dominican meal. I'm there. Well, I was gonna I was gonna say I can't really stress like how expensive it is to be a performer. because you gotta train for classes, costumes, all that type of shit. It adds up it actually adds up pretty quickly. And many of them are not from this country. So they can't work here legally. So really where they can afford to live is up there. Yeah. I mean, even shit. It's rough, but it's rough, but if you if you find your nice pocket, you know, I feel like you're fine. you just have to find your little pocket where you're comfortable when and when not to go out. Especially depending on where in the Bronx. But yeah. It can get rough in the Bronx. Do you let's try to get back on track and actually talk about the movie? do you guys have any pros? Any pros well any pros to the movie? Aside from the bus massacre, because that was the only pro for me. The mask was okay. Kinda. You would think that in modern day they would be able to design a perfect leather face mask. Yeah. That's like that's why like I said it with the asterisk or a question mark, 'cause it's like like it looks it it looks good. Yes. It look it looks professionally done, it looks well, you know, awesome. But does it really I don't know, bro, does it does it really fit that timeless like leatherface look as much as the other film? I don't know. Brandon, you got any positives? What what are your positives first? Because I know I know you semi liked it, so. Yeah, I think the story overall was actually pretty good. The cinematography. I think some of the callbacks that they tried to do were good. I think the thing I was actually listening to another podcast not that long ago that How dare you? I know. I'm a po I'm a podcast person, but I was listening to it and they did bring up a point that I didn't think of is why would you bring back, I guess, the original final girl just to kill her off that quickly? Like that kind of that didn't really need to be in there at all. A hundred percent. Yeah. So she she was treated like a fucking like a Timu Laurie Strode. Pretty much. And that's not even the original. That's not even the I mean it is the original girl, but the original. The original actress, yeah. Yeah, because she's no longer living. So they got someone else to be in place of her, but it was like, what was that for? And they kind of didn't give her enough of a backstory as to what she was doing in between while she was still looking for Leatherface because like he didn't, it doesn't look like he moved. He wasn't moving around going on road trips, so you could have just been able to find him a lot easier, I would think. But he was in a different town now, right? Because he was it looked like he was in an old western town in here, as opposed to a random house just in the middle of the thing, right? So like it's there's no kind of continuity there. But you know what? I think he's better off with the slip knot mask, bro. That like abandoned town backdrop. Could've made for some really dirty, grim horror. And you got like nothing personally. I felt like we didn't really get anything. like yeah, I bringing Sally back didn't make any sense to me. but like I like the kills. They were the practical the practical effects were pretty cool. I like that. Well, The the bus the bus killing was was a probably one of the better scenes in the p in seven, eight, and nine. As a horror. You know, I like that it wasn't a long movie either. It was relatively short. Well, at least it felt pretty short. I don't know how the exact runtime, but it definitely felt like it was like under an hour and a half, maybe hour twenty minutes, something like that. Yeah. Just keep people. Give something. that's about it. I I can't really think of any more positives, to be honest. I think I saw this the day that it actually dropped on Netflix. Yeah. I I stopped doing that after I I got burned too many times. And like I did it with the Ben Afflack film last week. I didn't watch it the first day, but I I did watch it like the first week it came out. I got burned. And I I like Ben Affleck, so I was gonna watch it regardless. But We know. We know. Yeah, Ben Affleck, man. It was it wasn't a couple of changes and it could have been a good movie. But it was just it was just dumb. Like there was an absurd amount of fucking drone shots for no reason. AI too was using this movie. You know. It is what it is. Not watching it again. some cons. What do you got, Brandon? You got any cards? I didn't like the ends. I I wanted I wanted both of them to survive. So I was sad when she died. Really? Yeah. I was waiting for everybody to get slaughtered. No. There was not a likable character in there. They were fucking irritating. They were all undeveloped. I I was waiting for each one of them to die. The first one that died, I didn't want her to die either. The Jacob Jacob Lattimore's girlfriend. I mean cons I mean I don't know, man. It's not as Know not a lot of substance, bro. Melody was the one th that I wanted to survive. I'm sorry. I'm just saying random names on here. It was just mid, dude. It was mid as fuck. I'm sorry. Just mid. Alright. I think the dialogue was terrible. But that's You ever you ever ate you ever ate McDon you ever ordered McDonald's like from the drive-thru or ordered fast food from the drive-thru and it was like cold? And just not s just soggy and you're missing your fries. That's like that's how I felt. Watch. I was like, all right. Whatever. Cold soggy fries. That's how you felt watching it. Yeah, it's like alright, man. You didn't you didn't put it in the air fryer or whatever? It's twenty twenty six. You don't have an air fryer you can put in there for two minutes before you fucking serve it. It's gonna give me cold soggy all right, man. So that's how I felt watching this film. Aside from the ending, what else did you feel, Brandon? What else didn't you like? That was pretty much the only thing. I liked the movie. I like the movie. I'm just I'm trying to, we gotta have a fucking podcast here. I'm trying to trying to get some trying to get something out of you here. So I'm I'm looking at this really quickly. I know we haven't got there yet, but like I was looking at the next one that's coming out, the one that's gonna be produced by Curry Barker, but everyone was bidding to get this new one that has been announced. looks like Neon was trying to get involved, A twenty four, and then even Jordan Peel was trying to get rights to Taco Kansas Massacre. So I mean like That goes back to what I was saying with I know you two don't think that this franchise overall is well and it doesn't hold up, but obviously if you have names like Jordan Peel, Neon, eight twenty four trying to get rights, they see something that's maybe you all don't see. They see money. They see name recognition. They see a chance to do elevated horror. So I would watch a Jordan Peel Texas Jamesville Massacre. I would. But I like, but I like Jordan Peel. So I'm gonna, whatever movie he comes out with, I'm gonna watch. Shout out Jordan Peel, dude. You're you're fired, dude. I thought they I I'm not a fan of A24 for the most part. they're to me, they're the epitome of style over style over substance. 25. All right, and their endings suck. I I haven't seen a r a good ending from an A twenty four movie in a long time. Justin, you have cons for the movie? Like real cons, not just rants? I'm trying I'm trying to keep it show for a little while. No, yeah. I mean I don't know, man. Yeah, w I I felt like everything was kinda like a little underdeveloped. I did not like his mask. I felt like all the other masks were so more him you know, more like raw leatherface than like this one. This one's yeah. Yeah, you know, this one's like it was it was rough to look at, dude. It was rough. and I I I don't know, man, I felt like it was just a little like Netflix Yeah, like Gen Zified or something like that. If I were to word it that way, like it it was just weird. I don't know, man. It didn't feel like it it didn't it didn't it didn't leave me anywhere near to where how I felt when I saw the first remake. Like I will to to this day I will say my favorite film is that first remake because of how like just fucking raw this dude was and you know the the prequels right there with it. The you know O three and O six they're like they're they're right there. my bias for the O three just comes from when I first saw it when I was a kid. But yeah man, I mean like like I said man, first the first film And then the first remake and the prequel, those films as as a you know, trilogy package, that will serve as way stronger as a character for you know as a as a as a portfolio for Leatherface and all of these like different one offs and different like you know takes. And and and you know, I'm not I'm not against new takes, you know, it's it's what it you know, it's what being an artist is, is trying shit. And if it you fuck up, you fuck up, if you fail, you fail. Nothing's really a failure. It's just just learning. So you know, but I I I don't know. I just felt like Leatherface deserves a stronger portfolio for the for the potential of what he could be. Mm-hmm. So I'm trying to think. So you said it was Gen Zified. Yeah. So I I definitely feel that because Gen Z has a certain way they do films. shit. no no no. I'm gonna go I'm gonna go easy. It is my generation. So either they go super heavy handed where it feels like you're reading a Twitter argument, or they do what they did here. Is they wanna they always have to comment on something socially, but then they never actually dive into it. So they'll touch on ten different topics. Like they touched on gentrification, they touched on gun control, right? School shootings, they touched on social media, they touched on everything, but they had not a fucking intelligent thing to say about any of them. They're not aware in this movie. They touch in this movie here, yeah. They touch, they touch, they touch, they touch, they back off. And that's all the pause. I knew it. Damn it. Once a fuck I got I was trying to go the whole episode without getting one. See, I was so happy when you got Justin before. I was like, I'm good, I'm not gonna get one. I was surprised I got caught. I'm easy on point. Damn, bro. But that's my problem with a lot of Gen Z movies is either they go full heavy handed where it's you're just fucking like shut up already. Or they touch, touch, touch, touch, touch and have nothing of actual substance to say about it. So if you're gonna do it, do it where you have opposing views and Gen Z does not know how to have an opposing view. So it's their view and that's it. You said you were going light on them. I am. This is very light. This is very light. No, this is very light. This is very light. I think I probably had conversations on set where he's way, way worse than this with Gen Z. They probably went home and cried in the car too. But but yeah that that's my pri like the writing, the same thing. And you know I I think the writing has more to do with today's than the generation is because they made the characters make decisions based on, we need another kill, not the situation of the film. So it didn't occur naturally. It the all the kill not all the kills, but most of them felt forced to the point where, hey, we're we need a kill here. It's page twelve, let's get a kill. Let's just it just didn't feel right. and Sally and Leatherface as a as a as a group, con to me. Like there was no reason to bring back Sally. That was dumb. Like one of the dumb parts in Scream, the new Scream, not seven of them. All of Was it five, maybe? I I don't remember. Five, six, and seven, they kind of just blend in as bad. But when the little the new group goes to Dewey's house And he's just sitting there watching Gail on TV out of nowhere. And then they're like, come with us. And he's like, No, no, no. And then all of a sudden he walks out, he's Yeah, I'm coming with you. Felt the same exact stupidity as it did here, where she randomly is just cooking dinner and then yeah, I hear his name on the thing, I'm going. And then just goes and gets fucking chainsawed. Stupid shit. And if she recognizes him and she was old in the movie, but she was young in the first one. He was older in the first one. How fucking old is he now to be moving around and killing a whole bus full of people? that just doesn't make sense to me. that's it's just stupid. Beet juice. Maybe he eats beet juice and turkey and turkey burgers. Yeah. But no. and what this did was that it made Leatherface like a sympathetic character more than anything else. Which is you never want your horror villain to be fucking sympathetic. You can't, dude. But like Yeah, like these these people. Dude, I'm bribing him, bro. Let me give you bro. Let me let's go to the fucking Texas. Like, have you have you had like actual Texas barbecue, bro? Like, I'll put you on, bro. Like something. Bro, I could sway him with like a nice Texas barbecue meal, bro. He'd be like, yo, this is way better than human. Leather Leatherface was eating cannibal. Right? So maybe his Texas barbecue is something different. Did you did you finish Crystal Lake? Pat? No. I I don't say they're now everyone is like, We love Jason. I would fuck everyone up for him because they're now they're they've they've turned him into a sympathetic character as well now. But my thing with that is You gotta stop, bro. So he they're doing that for a kid. They're not doing that for Jason. They're doing that for kid Jason, right? Not adult Jason. Well, no, but I I've seen some of the memes that are saying there's a there's a shot where he's smiling and they said, Hey, one day this kid's gonna take Manhattan. One day he's gonna be in space. And then now now people are saying it's justified why he did what he did because he was such a loving boy, and look what happened to him, that now we're rooting that Jason is killing people. I support Jason killing. I always support Jason killing though, so it's okay. Shout out Jason for he's moon. you supp you're supposed aren't you aren't you supposed to root for the the killer in a horror movie? No. I I feel like that's that you have to. No. I feel like that's the whole point of a horror movie is you want the fucking slasher to kill. I didn't root for the billionaires in Hustle Two. That's different that's different. Fuck the billing. That's like the purge. You ever see you see the purge election yeah? Actually no, invest election. Invest in us, man. Invest in us. Talk to us, man. Talk to us. Talk to us. What's up? Actually I finished that one. You're not rooting for the purge election year. You're not rooting for them. You're rooting for El Purgeon. El Pert. What? No, the the the founding fathers. You're not rooting for them. You want them there. You want them to get slaughtered though. No, but some people are. Yeah, some people are. But the The general public is rooting for the other people to slaughter them. Absolute fucking horrid right. so I didn't understand also, so maybe Justin, you you could shed a little light on this for me. Is yeah is this movie making fun of Gen Z or is it like trying to appeal to them? I c I couldn't really I couldn't figure it out. When you asked me. 'Cause you're not Gen Z. Look, it was some one person tells him he looks twenty eight, now his fucking head is all I'm Gen Z. Everyone says that about him. I'm Gen Z now. Everyone says I got a baby face, so it I mean it I may I don't know. I feel like it's a little bit I mean, you deal with Gen Z more than me. I don't deal with them too often. I feel I feel like it's a little bit it depends, if if if it's a older person who who made the film. I'm gonna assume it's somebody young. If it was someone young, then it's probably catering. If it was someone older, it was probably someone like poking fun at Gen Z. But then again, if it was someone older, it'd probably be a more seasoned film. Yeah, so I I just don't understand. this is the second time they did it. an old leatherface moving around like he's microdosing TRT. Like it he's just moving around. His joints are he's very fluid, his joints are going like he's he's very spry for a seventy something year old leatherface. Leatherface is like, yo, I just tried this matcha, it's pretty sick. He charged me fifteen dollars so I sawed his fucking head off. That's like that's the vibe I got from this one, bro. There's like Yeah. I I think if they would have just went straight slasher instead of trying to social commentary it, it probably would have been a little better. Especially like, you know, townful, you know, empty town with leatherface, and here come the group of people. Yeah. You know, that's set up to be a nice little slasher. And the kills are cool, special effects were good, the makeup was great. Yes. The story sucked. that stuff I will say was really cool. the makeup, the effects, I liked it. But other than that, nah. Watching The whole series makes me appreciate the first more. Yeah. So I I can yeah. I didn't like the he was a little campy, he's dancing and at the end of the he's dancing with the chain, so it was a little stupid. But you also gotta remember it's nineteen seventy four, so you know, it's a different type of filmmaking. I didn't like a lot of the characters, like I didn't really give a shit about them. But it just felt like a better movie than the rest of them. Except for the two remakes. Which I thought I would put the f first remake slightly over the original. And then I would put the all right, so this movie, Brandon liked it. I didn't like it. Justin, you're not like it on the fence for the Netflix remake. Nah, I don't like it. You didn't like it. All right. Which is it it's it's again, it's weird because Fetty Fetty Arboras, you know, he did such a phenomenal job writing Evil Dead. So I don't know why he wasn't able to make an amazing story with this. You know, I'm be honest, I don't remember the Evil Dead remake. I don't remember any sp I don't remember s all right. I don't remember specifics of any of the new Evil Dead's this century kind of thing. I told you I started watching that was that Evil Dead Burn? Mm-hmm. And it spent like the first twenty minutes in the lake or fifteen minutes in the lake, and I'm just like this is fucking stupid. Started watching it. I like, this is just I I think I got thirty s thirty five, forty minutes in and I shot it all. I couldn't do it anymore. It was just you didn't see the one before? Yeah, I didn't like it. I just don't like Rise? No. I don't think I liked anything this century of Evil Dead. I could be wrong. I just don't remember exactly. So it didn't really stick, I guess. if I w if I like something, I'm usually gonna watch it twice. I don't remember seeing I can't rem piece out details of any of see, I like these more than the originals. I like the originals. I like the original little two I like the first two. It got a little too again, it it gets campy, gets over the top goofy and All right, so let's get to ranking. All right, so let's start with Justin. Let's get some rankings for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre one through nine. and a quick little blurb. First remake first prequel second first remake third. And I count from excluding those from the second film on from two to nine, excluding the first two remakes and the first film. you could all rate those at number ten on the scale on on the least end scale. Like it's it's they could be wherever the fuck. I don't care. So you think they all kinda blend in? Yeah, like I don't not none of those stood out to me. Like maybe the third with the g fucking Guitar Hero commercial, but like I was just like I I was just like, dude, like there's so much potential in Leatherface, bro. Like you could have made him so fucking ferocious, dude, and and like I don't know. I feel like i I feel like it was it's already been kinda like you know, diluted for me. It's like whatever. Okay. Brandon you have a ranking? So I would go the beginning, then the remake, then three D. and then probably Three, two The return. Which one was the return? That was the fourth one. And then the fourth one was where you put on the dress? Yeah. Okay. And then after that I would probably put the original. you out of your fucking mind. And then Leatherface and then the remake. You're out of your mind to put the dress over the original. Why? That no, no, you can't do that. You sure you don't want to take another minute and kind of re look at your list? I don't like the I don't like the original one. I think it's overrated. All right, but we're also talking about quality purposes and everything. We're not I don't think it was good quality. you're out of your fucking line. I don't think it was good quality. Pat, what's your list? Nice pissed. He's pissed now. I'm gonna go shit. six, which is the beginning. that that's clearly just the best film in the entire series as a whole. Yeah, I just I I I put the fifth one at first because it's it's a child you know, it's it's a bi it's a bias for my childhood when I first saw it. The bias for me would be one. but I would still put the the first remake, the O three. I would put the O three ahead of one. Mm-hmm. then I would go one. And everything after that is like mix and match. I know I said I really, really hated two, but Looking back at it, I appreciate the wildly different take of it. It was still terrible. It was still really bad. It was still like two, three, four, seven, eight, nine are absolute trash to me. But I really appreciate looking back at it, I really appreciate the different not the story, because the story was bad, but the different look, the different feel of two. so I think I would go the second one at number four, the third the third one at number five, even though it was just existing. There really wasn't nothing to it. and then six Right? One, two, three. No, so s yeah. Seven. the last three I would put shit, what would I do? my god. This is fucking to put Leatherface and Leatherface and the the last what we're talking about, I know those are at the bottom. It's med, bruh. They're they're all mid. So three D I think I would put three D at six. only because of do you think cuz? you're right. you're tripping. You're tripping. Yeah. I would put 3D at six. Seven. fuck, man. I would put Leatherface? No, I would put this Netflix one at seven. I would put the dress at eight and Leatherface at nine. Yo, that's wild. I would I think I'm thinking I'm gonna do that. So I think I'm gonna go one sorry, I'm going six, five, one, two, three, seven. Four No. Seven, nine, four, eight. However, I don't think anything after one, five, and six are would ever get a rewatch for me ever again for any reason whatsoever. I definitely watched four. You're just doing it now. This is a fucking There's there's no way you would watch four again. Hey man, guys who are confident in themselves can put on whatever and step outside. Yeah, that's fine. But I still never got an answer of where the fuck the FBI or CIA or the men in black, whatever the fuck they are, got to Leatherface's house. And then he tried to sh fucking chop down their plane with a chainsaw. I just rewatched The Curse of Michael Myers today and They got some they start to put the druids and all these Celtic people in there. And I like, what the fuck were they doing with that movie? He's just ruining shit now, bro. So I'm like, he's got even Michael Myers put up bad games too. The thing is with you people always want to say art are art, you can't trust every artist. Not every artist is good. I think we're all artists though. We make a lot of bad stuff. Yeah, but we make But you gotta make you gotta make a lot of bad things to make something good. How many things have these people made that were good after they make so these so the writers and directors of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, how many of them went on to better things? That's a good question. Or how many of them came from good things that made this and then never did shit after it. Well I know Fetty Alvarez for this one definitely he's got some chops in the game because he's done some stuff. Evil Dead, he did Don't Breathe, Don't Breathe Too, and then he also did Alien Romulus. He was the director and the writer for that one. And that one wasn't bad. So I like Don't Breathe One, I did not like Don't Don't Breathe Two. He'd probably be the most successful out of this entire franchise outside of the the remakes. So I don't remember The Evil Dead, so I can't say if I liked it or not. if I don't remember it, it's probably just but I don't remember it. You should go and watch it. It's actually it's it's good. It's good really it's really good actually. I I remember liking Don't Breathe. I remember not liking Don't Breathe too. And I don't rem what was the fourth one he did? Alien Romulus.
