- 0:15SPEAKER_03: Emperor Maxwell.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: Third of three uh from our Big Sound chats.
- 0:19SPEAKER_03: The last one uh recorded in a bit of a weird red room, this one.
- 0:23SPEAKER_03: A little red room.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Full of energy, full of life.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: This this interview is.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: This is honestly one of the funniest interviews we've done in a long time.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of energy in this.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: I was a little cuck on the wall.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: Finn, Cohen, and Harry from Win Big out of Adelaide were in for yaps.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: Uh the last one we did it from Big Sound, and uh honestly, just a a good a good chat about a lot of weird shit.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: A lot of weird shit went down.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Um but it was great.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I mean uh keep your eyes peeled for the photos as well.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Very wholesome.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Very beautiful.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Um just the nicest dude.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Uh good yaps.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Goods.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Sorry, you were waiting for me to intro you.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: Well, whatever you want to do.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: I just thought you didn't finish the sentence, but that's it.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: No, I didn't.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: It was open-ended thinking you were gonna take it, and you didn't, so that's fine.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Um, well, look, let's just throw to the band, Maxwell.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: You're chatting to them in the red room.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: In the in Nova's Red Room sound.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: No, we're not sponsored by it.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: This is the amped red room.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: Uh well, we're here at Big Sound.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: It's our final interview for the day.
- 1:18SPEAKER_03: We're here with Finn, Cohen, and Harry from WinBig.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Guys, welcome to the show.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: How are you done?
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: Really good.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: Good.
- 1:23SPEAKER_05: Yeah, thank you for having us.
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: Harry?
- 1:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah, thanks for having us.
- 1:26SPEAKER_05: Um, yeah, you can grab the mic next time if you want that.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Although I like I like the the kind of uh like the big jog I knew to just be like, yeah, hold hold the microphone for me.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Like Caesar with the grape stuff.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: It's not a good thing.
- 1:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we did an interview just before where we were meant to have lapel mics so we could like do a drawing while we were doing it, and Harry kind of ended up holding two of them, and then I was meant to take it away and I forgot, and like now the whole interview is just Harry.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: Were you like drawing with your mouth or something?
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: The whole time.
- 1:50SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_06: The drawing one that that could have gone real rogue, I reckon.
- 1:54SPEAKER_06: I'm glad uh it wasn't it was tame.
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: Whoa! No, we're good, we're sweet, it's all good.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: Well, we'd like to start the show the same way every day, which is to find out what you guys are listening to.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: So, what's been spinning in your playlist recently?
- 2:05SPEAKER_06: Uh I've got such bad answers for this.
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: I literally go through such like intense waves of liking one song and one song only.
- 2:11SPEAKER_06: And right now not in one, uh which sucks.
- 2:14SPEAKER_06: It fucking sucks.
- 2:16SPEAKER_06: Uh listening to a lot of my own demos and stuff and mixes if my own fart.
- 2:20SPEAKER_06: Uh humiliating is what is the word I'd use though.
- 2:22SPEAKER_06: Uh I really don't like it.
- 2:23SPEAKER_06: Um I mean I have been loving uh Teal by Wonder Horse, which is like a song that was popular like five, what, three years ago that I've only now realized I absolutely love, and so I've listened to that a million times.
- 2:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:34SPEAKER_06: And movies by Alien Aunt Farm, you guys know they made their own fucking music?
- 2:38SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_06: That song goes crazy.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: They've got some deep cuts that are better than they should be.
- 2:42SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that song is awesome.
- 2:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:44SPEAKER_06: The bridge sucks so bad, but like, you know, the the the chorus is awesome.
- 2:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 2:49SPEAKER_06: What about you guys?
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: Uh I've just played the new no pressure record a million times just because every song on there is a hit in its own way.
- 2:58SPEAKER_04: Fuck yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_04: Um, and also still, like, Military Guns record from the tail end of last year, God Save the Gun, is perfect and you know, still on, you know, high rotation the entire year.
- 3:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it doesn't get much better.
- 3:13SPEAKER_06: So I would counter and say their first album is significantly uh better, but that's that's okay.
- 3:20SPEAKER_06: For me though, it's just like they that album was like that album give me that.
- 3:24SPEAKER_06: That album was like uh kind of like why this band's even a fucking band.
- 3:29SPEAKER_06: The one before it, Life Under the Gun, where it's like, oh, why does this sound like indie rock but also hardcore?
- 3:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 3:33SPEAKER_06: Like, what's the deal with this?
- 3:34SPEAKER_06: Why is this good?
- 3:35SPEAKER_06: Why it's so silly as well.
- 3:36SPEAKER_06: Um and like that album to me is like a 10 out of tenor.
- 3:39SPEAKER_06: So like why would the next one couldn't be better?
- 3:41SPEAKER_06: I've just set myself up to fail.
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: But it's them expanding as a band, they've sort of changed out the members that were from other bands that sort of just made it that sort of semi-super group to begin with.
- 3:54SPEAKER_04: They've had their new members come in, they've become their own band, expanded their sound, brought in more effects, more instruments.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah, we can agree to disagree.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: That's my own.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Guys, welcome to Gun on Gun, the Military Gun Podcast.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: We're breaking down the album, let's go.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: For me though, um the new Loath album, yeah, very awesome.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Um, but I also just listened to a lot of rap as well.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: Westside Gun, Griselda, Underground stuff, Freddie Gibbs.
- 4:24SPEAKER_06: I really like how you've had Westside Gun Carlos.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: It's awesome, and I think it I think it comes through in our music as well, the newer stuff.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: The newer stuff.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Influences.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 4:36SPEAKER_02: It's it's real fun being in a band.
- 4:37SPEAKER_06: Well, it's real fun being in a kind of new It's real fun being in a band uh with newer people in my life.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: I haven't like known these guys forever, but we've become real close real quick.
- 4:48SPEAKER_06: Um but in my other bands, you're like, I know what these guys listen to.
- 4:51SPEAKER_06: I know what we're listening to when we get in the car, kind of thing.
- 4:53SPEAKER_06: But these guys, it's like, yeah, a new level of level of discovery and passion.
- 4:57SPEAKER_06: Like, you know, me and Cohen already just argued about our favorite military gun album, let alone the fact that like I don't like half the music, like not even the beginnings of half the music that he likes, and vice versa.
- 5:07SPEAKER_06: It gets heated, but it's fun, I really like it.
- 5:09SPEAKER_06: Find myself having to defend uh or not like myself having to like concede that I'm a fucking hater for no reason, you know what I mean?
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: That's good, it's it opens up the opens up the mind.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 5:19SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, look, we we're about to chat influences and inspiration.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, you guys have mentioned you've all been in different projects and stuff before.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: When you guys came together as Wim Big, what were the who were the artists, what were the the albums and the bands that you kind of like said this is kind of who we are inspired by and who we want to influence?
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: Who would be influenced by?
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: Sorry, Mike.
- 5:36SPEAKER_06: So I'll give a I'll give a quick DODR just so these guys can be involved.
- 5:40SPEAKER_06: Uh when WinBig started, it was just me and Fraser and our friend Harry, uh different Harry.
- 5:44SPEAKER_06: Um and it was it was just like a reason to hang out.
- 5:49SPEAKER_06: We just like got together on a Tuesday night and started writing some songs, and it just happened really ridiculously quickly.
- 5:55SPEAKER_06: Didn't know it'd be a band, just wanted to write some fun, simple songs.
- 5:58SPEAKER_06: Uh, and kind of wrote that first album, Feelings on Tick, in like, I don't know, like 10 or 15 of those two-hour-long Tuesday night beer hangouts.
- 6:06SPEAKER_06: Um and we were absolutely just inspired by at the time Military Gun was number one.
- 6:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 6:11SPEAKER_06: Military gun, and then like bands like High Viz, and and now more so um I think we're trying to move into the realm of more like Angel Dust.
- 6:18SPEAKER_06: Uh oh, and turnstile before.
- 6:20SPEAKER_06: But but now we're trying to I think that the Angel Dust is the more uh the fun in-between of all that kind of stuff.
- 6:25SPEAKER_06: And I'm not gonna get to do all the indie rock, like if it was up to me, I want to be high-viz.
- 6:29SPEAKER_06: I f I love high-viz.
- 6:30SPEAKER_06: Uh but Fraser loves riffins, so there was there's there's that in between.
- 6:33SPEAKER_06: I think Angel Dust is a good kind of reference point there.
- 6:36SPEAKER_06: Uh more than anything, uh, we we wanna we just didn't want to think about it too much.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: Like if you listen to the album, we just talked about it.
- 6:41SPEAKER_06: I think I don't think there's a bridge on it.
- 6:43SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 6:44SPEAKER_06: It goes like verse chorus, verse chorus, a riff outro sometimes.
- 6:47SPEAKER_06: And that's pretty much it.
- 6:48SPEAKER_06: Uh and uh so yeah, that that was the main thing, was just like who cares?
- 6:53SPEAKER_06: Just when it stops being literally fun and energetic, stop the song.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 6:56SPEAKER_06: Um and then we didn't know yeah, how that was all gonna study on this thing like crazy.
- 7:01SPEAKER_06: Uh we didn't know how that was Yeah, dude.
- 7:04SPEAKER_06: Um we didn't know how the band would kind of eventuate.
- 7:07SPEAKER_06: Um but we started wanting to play some shows, and these guys jumped on and are like the best bandmates ever.
- 7:13SPEAKER_06: And you know, Fraser and I didn't know if we were gonna open up the writing or not, and we immediately did because these once again are they just the best dudes ever.
- 7:19SPEAKER_06: Uh and now with our newer stuff, they can they can they can honestly speak to it because I haven't really been writing the guitars for this band anymore because I've got uh all the drums, like we've got people we trust now that can do it way better, and now I just get to sing.
- 7:32SPEAKER_06: It's awesome.
- 7:32SPEAKER_06: So you guys can yeah, what do you think?
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: I don't know, I've just sort of yeah, very much taken the first record into account for writing the new stuff just because we're coming into like album two, and you know, we caught up just you know, candidly and just had a notebook in front of us, and we're like, oh, let's just like, you know, rather than like band influences that sort of just like write things that we want included in the next record and sort of like incorporate that.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Should have brought that notebook.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: No, you shouldn't have.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Oh no, we shouldn't have.
- 8:04SPEAKER_06: No, fuck no.
- 8:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, there's some other there's some digressions.
- 8:07SPEAKER_06: That's what we're doing.
- 8:08SPEAKER_06: Uh but things like like rock ballad, you know?
- 8:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like piano.
- 8:12SPEAKER_06: Uh song that goes one riff and then uh the the sound and another riff riff, yeah, with a different tempo, you know.
- 8:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, same riff but slower.
- 8:20SPEAKER_06: Sorry, ten songs, twenty minutes always.
- 8:22SPEAKER_06: That's gonna be that that's gonna be the key.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: It was a little bit more constructive, but you know, that was sort of like the basis of it.
- 8:27SPEAKER_04: So, you know, um, yeah, bringing in the first record for inspiration, having that sort of like chat, and then you know, bringing in sort of the different influences, like, you know, it's very much going to be a collaborative project, but the first sort of few that I've been taken away on have just been, yeah, very much like military gun, a bit more rocky, whereas like Fraser will absolutely kill the riffier stuff, and we'll bring it all together, you know, by the time we have a big collection of songs and it comes to recording time and figure it out from there.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: Figure it out, yeah.
- 8:56SPEAKER_04: Whatever makes sense, whatever doesn't take too much thought, you know, whatever's whatever's natural and sounds good.
- 9:03SPEAKER_06: Just really trying not to like we are not a we care about our music being lots of fun and lots of fun to play.
- 9:10SPEAKER_06: We are not a band that's trying to reinvent the wheel.
- 9:12SPEAKER_06: We're not we're not pretending like we're trying to do that.
- 9:14SPEAKER_06: We're just trying to write shit that we want to play that is fun, that you know, we watch that outbreak set and go, I want to do that.
- 9:20SPEAKER_06: And then we write the beer kind of thing, and hope that one day we can pull that off.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: But we're not trying to do anything like no, nothing too too complex and still be able to have six beers before playing.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: That's yeah, just have fun, yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_06: Like, yeah, we love we love playing we we love love playing shots, yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_06: Uh and everything that comes with it, you know.
- 9:42SPEAKER_06: Um and uh that's not to say that yeah, we're not taking it seriously and don't want to, you know, play as many as we can, but we're not coming into any of this with an angle of like we need this to work or like we need this to make money or because like we're not going to.
- 9:56SPEAKER_06: And you know, we all have jobs that we tolerate, you know.
- 10:01SPEAKER_06: That'll do.
- 10:01SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and we and when we when when you have this kind of thing to look forward to, uh like you know, the the work all makes sense.
- 10:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:07SPEAKER_06: Um it's gonna make the next album hard to be make angsty, I think.
- 10:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 10:11SPEAKER_06: Because uh this band makes me so fucking happy and yeah, puts everything into a like kind of perspective for me.
- 10:17SPEAKER_06: Uh so the next album is probably gonna suck.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: Speaking about filling it so tick and and and the the whole first album, like it feels like you guys are playing with a lot of sounds and stuff and that are part of the you know the hardcore revival that are in the moment at the moment with turnstile and speed in Australia and stuff like that.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: Like it's not just hardcore, it's hardcore plus other bits and pieces.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: And you guys are sort of right in the middle of that.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: There's these little synth runs and stuff like Gates to Heaven, there's the the cool instrumentation, there's the hand claps that are in Rockstar, which are like straight up pop.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, do you think it's the the fact that you guys are just happy to play in all of these different sounds that is like making it feel like it's all happening so fast and you're getting this kind of real windy blow-up?
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I do think like uh Are you talking like in the s in terms of writing the songs?
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: Writing, the recording, the instrumentation, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: Well, I think, yeah, pretty much if there's a riff we like, we're gonna just add the thing that makes the riff sound good.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 11:05SPEAKER_06: Umce again without overcomplicating it.
- 11:07SPEAKER_06: And if Fraser's like, well, yeah, I can hear claps, I'm just gonna put the claps in.
- 11:10SPEAKER_06: Um we did have a funny, we've had a few funny moments though.
- 11:13SPEAKER_06: We like demoed that whole feelings on tick, and we've done it with the new songs as well.
- 11:17SPEAKER_06: Uh, but we demoed it all and we were like, we'll get rid of all the sound effects.
- 11:20SPEAKER_06: Like, we're a rock band, we wanna be a rock band.
- 11:22SPEAKER_06: I do I don't want to sample things, I don't want to do that.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: Like, let's just be a rock band.
- 11:25SPEAKER_06: And we did it, and then we got the mix back, and immediately it was just like, oh fuck that, put the samples back in.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: Like, put them back in.
- 11:31SPEAKER_06: Like, I didn't realise how much uh like we didn't realise how much we actually liked and missed them and stuff.
- 11:36SPEAKER_06: Um that's something for me, like I was hesitant against uh to like I said, I'm a fucking cynic, I'm a cynical bastard.
- 11:42SPEAKER_06: I like rock bands.
- 11:44SPEAKER_06: Um, but I'm really happy Fraser really wanted to keep her, and I listening back, I'm like, yeah, it's cool, it's just like uh why not?
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I think they sound great on the record, but we don't put any of that into the live show or anything.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: None of that.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: The only sample that we use is the uh the intro of When I'm Good in the The Last Track.
- 12:04SPEAKER_07: It is the morning of my love So we don't even need the Tampa.
- 12:20SPEAKER_06: We just choose the Tablet.
- 12:22SPEAKER_06: Um that was the fucking maybe the best I've ever song in a side.
- 12:28SPEAKER_06: Jack with that.
- 12:29SPEAKER_06: Jack fucking that.
- 12:32SPEAKER_06: Um you can turn that in post, right?
- 12:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:35SPEAKER_06: Straight on blown out.
- 12:39SPEAKER_03: You have mentioned about how, you know, it is it is 10 songs in 21 minutes, it is fucking moving at a clip.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, aside from the fact that you don't like writing bridges, have you thought about putting one song that's just all the bridges from the other songs?
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: Yay!
- 12:49SPEAKER_06: Oh no, it's not that we don't like writing them, we're just fucking hard.
- 12:53SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 12:53SPEAKER_06: There's nothing else, man.
- 12:54SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
- 12:55SPEAKER_06: Like, oh, there is.
- 12:56SPEAKER_06: Fraser's got a bunch of like song demos and stuff, but like we've not really like written the bridge and then taken the bridge out.
- 13:03SPEAKER_06: The song's kind of just like, there's the verse, there's the chorus, there's the verse, there's the chorus.
- 13:06SPEAKER_06: That sounds cool, done.
- 13:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_06: You know, like, yeah, it's not this meticulous whittling down process.
- 13:11SPEAKER_06: It's it's literally just like there it is, and then we listen to it in the car and drive home and go, hmm, maybe we should have added something else there.
- 13:18SPEAKER_06: But usually not.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: Fraser just cooks something up.
- 13:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, the slowdowns always work kind of as that almost bridge.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: Like the the the slowdowns at some of those songs are so good at just being like, cool, different tempo, bring it, like change it up just from the song, you like wanted something new.
- 13:30SPEAKER_06: Well, I feel like it's such a it's it's so easy to change the tempo once, I think, as well.
- 13:34SPEAKER_06: Uh like okay, serious now.
- 13:36SPEAKER_06: Uh it is it's it's really easy to change that tempo once.
- 13:39SPEAKER_06: And I've always run into blocks with bands uh where you then have to try and jump back to that first tempo.
- 13:45SPEAKER_06: Um and basically this band's just like, okay, if that's hard, if the song's over then.
- 13:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_06: Done.
- 13:49SPEAKER_06: That's the outro.
- 13:50SPEAKER_06: That's hard, like, like we're we're not a hardcore band, we're not trying to be a part, like the scene is awesome and we love it, but we are not at heart hardcore kids kind of thing.
- 14:00SPEAKER_06: And if we feel very disingenuous just because I really like the military guard and to be like, yeah, yeah, yeah, fuck yeah, dude, hardcore roots and shit, listen to Win Big, we're a fucking hardcore band kind of thing.
- 14:09SPEAKER_06: Like, like, I love it and have a a lot of respect for it, and uh have listened to lots of hardcore and play in a different hardcore band and stuff, but like that's not uh that's not the point of this band to ride that kind of wave.
- 14:22SPEAKER_04: Um and also to sort of circle back to the whole structure part of things, like there is no right or wrong structure.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's sort of whatever comes naturally to it, and you know, there's some post-choruses and stuff like that, which you could easily just like, you know, cut and paste and throw it after the second chorus and be like, oh cool bridge moment.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: But it's just yeah, whatever, you know.
- 14:41SPEAKER_06: There is a bridge! Whoa! Um at the end of pack it in.
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's more of an outro, isn't it?
- 14:46SPEAKER_06: No.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: The Matthews Bridge.
- 14:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, take him there.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: John Otto.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: Let's fucking go.
- 14:51SPEAKER_06: Don't be carried away talking about hardcore music.
- 14:55SPEAKER_06: It's awesome.
- 14:55SPEAKER_06: But yeah, we can just do riffs at the end because people uh will fucking jump around to it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Fuck yeah, absolutely.
- 15:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, moving away from the album for a second, talking about scenes.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Adelaide is just having a blow.
- 15:05SPEAKER_03: We were just chatting with Blinder uh just before this.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Sweet.
- 15:07SPEAKER_03: Uh and and and those guys are up here, you know, other bands like uh in not necessarily in the heavy space, but like the Ptolemy Rands, George Alice, Lonely Spec, like Adelaide's having a moment.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: What is going on in the Torrens that's making this fucking happen?
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: What's the go?
- 15:20SPEAKER_06: No, no, no, we don't talk about the Torrens.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: It's such a good trickle.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Um I'd say River, but I don't know if that counts.
- 15:26SPEAKER_06: Uh I don't know.
- 15:29SPEAKER_06: The best and worst, but my take on this.
- 15:31SPEAKER_06: I think it's just the algal bloom.
- 15:32SPEAKER_06: The algal bloom.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: It's just it's finally worse.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: That's why the gun let it go for so long.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: But what the music guys come on.
- 15:39SPEAKER_06: I think um, I don't know, I think the best and worst thing about the Adelaide scene is that it's really like quite small in the city.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: Um there's a separate scene, there's kind of like a separate scene way down south.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: No longer area kind of thing.
- 15:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no longer area.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: They did this big festival, uh kind of spearheaded by this these this crew called Daybed Records.
- 15:57SPEAKER_06: Yep, yeah, yeah.
- 15:58SPEAKER_06: Um really good, really good friends of mine.
- 15:59SPEAKER_06: I've got a lot of respect for them and what they do with their community, and that's like another little pocket, but that's a bit more DIY rock and roll.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_06: Um and then in that yeah, in the city, it's small, and and the best and worst thing about it is that it's small.
- 16:11SPEAKER_06: So when it's going good, we're all talking to each other and we're and it's all going good.
- 16:16SPEAKER_06: And when it's going bad, it's going bad.
- 16:17SPEAKER_06: So if there's ever this like one, you know, this two years, every band's good, this two years, every two every two bands are bad kind of thing.
- 16:25SPEAKER_06: Because it's so connected.
- 16:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 16:27SPEAKER_06: Um but I I I mean I love that about it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Um I think there's a lot of support across genres and stuff like that.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot of support.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Um it's kind of like the rising tide eclipse all ships kind of thing.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Um because it's such a small thanks, man.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: Um because it's such a small little community, you know, everyone helps each other.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Um whether it's musicians or like, you know, anyone in the media or anything like that as well.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, it's kind of everyone helping each other.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it feels that way at the moment, hey.
- 16:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, is that I don't know if that's necessarily just a sign that the scene's healthy or just that we're a bit older.
- 17:03SPEAKER_06: Maybe.
- 17:04SPEAKER_06: And the bands we definitely felt a lot clickier when I was younger.
- 17:07SPEAKER_06: It was, yeah, well, that was the when I was 19, 20, it was the worst part about the scene because that it was tiny and we're all competitive and you know everyone hates each other's guts kind of thing.
- 17:15SPEAKER_06: Everyone's trying to get one bill like that.
- 17:17SPEAKER_06: And now that everyone's a bit older and it's like, well, you okay, but you're you're past 25 now, you're clearly doing this because you actually enjoy it.
- 17:23SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_06: Um and for you know, less ulterior motives, we're all freaks, we all know this.
- 17:28SPEAKER_06: But um, but then it becomes all, yeah, there's so I'm feeling a lot of love.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: And I've got a lot of love to give.
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: And yeah, Telemarines, awesome.
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: He's playing a band with Lucinda.
- 17:36SPEAKER_06: Like, yeah, right, you know, you uh have you guys played in a band with either of those two before?
- 17:40SPEAKER_06: I know Josh that drummer's filled in for ethanol blend before.
- 17:43SPEAKER_06: Like uh uh yeah.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: Or just the loveliest people.
- 17:46SPEAKER_06: The loveliest people ever.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: God, I love Lucinda and I love Lucinda and Josh so much.
- 17:50SPEAKER_06: They are just the nicest people ever.
- 17:52SPEAKER_06: That sounds like I'm just throwing shade to the other two.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: It's not.
- 17:55SPEAKER_06: I just know Lucinda and Josh.
- 17:57SPEAKER_06: I just know them.
- 17:57SPEAKER_06: I just know them.
- 17:58SPEAKER_06: They're the best.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: Well, before we let you go, uh it's Big Sound now, obviously, which means we're coming to the end of 2026.
- 18:03SPEAKER_03: What does the rest of the year look like?
- 18:04SPEAKER_03: What does 2027 look like for Win Big?
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: What's on the horizon?
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: I'm holding this for fun.
- 18:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: Um we just got more shows.
- 18:14SPEAKER_06: Uh like it, like this is uh pretty unprecedented.
- 18:18SPEAKER_06: We didn't think we'd be a big sound.
- 18:19SPEAKER_06: We've been a band for like less than a year.
- 18:21SPEAKER_06: Uh there's our sixth show tomorrow, uh, uh tonight at the showcase.
- 18:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_06: And seventh and eighth on Thursday, kind of thing.
- 18:28SPEAKER_06: Um so this is probably gonna be the highlight for a minute, to be completely real.
- 18:31SPEAKER_06: I mean, hopefully it can't, you know, it stonks or whatever, but like uh I think this would be the highlight for a minute, um, in terms of like trajectory or whatever, however you want to put it.
- 18:39SPEAKER_06: But we've got three more shows booked in for the rest of the year, which I'm looking forward to each of individually in different ways, kind of thing.
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: And then uh, you know, we've been practicing heaps, but we're gonna kind of cut that practice time away for just writing some music.
- 18:51SPEAKER_06: Fuck it.
- 18:52SPEAKER_06: Try and get another album.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, we also we've also recorded two songs.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, sorry, we also recorded a split earlier this year.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, and the cover.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: We're doing a split with uh another Adelaide band called Energy Angel.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Energy Angel.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Um, so hopefully that comes out soon.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Shout out, Energy Angel, hard shout out.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Loveliest people.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Depict Studios, Lochland Pitcher who filled in for us last Friday as well.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: He's a G.
- 19:17SPEAKER_06: Um.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: He's great.
- 19:19SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:20SPEAKER_06: Uh sports car, bit of a hiatus, I reckon.
- 19:22SPEAKER_06: Reactions hopefully make it back from the dead at some point.
- 19:24SPEAKER_06: They do they won't, and he'll fucking hate me even saying that.
- 19:27SPEAKER_06: Um but yeah, with those guys and uh our buddy Sam from Short Corner Records will help us put that one out as well.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: Um just like yeah, do some physical stuff, probably do a vinyl if we have enough cash, which uh yeah, if we can find enough cash.
- 19:43SPEAKER_07: Um put me down for one, I'll find out.
- 19:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and even like the president of that one was just like a fun split, hang out with friends, record some music, and it's like it's two singles and a cover.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: So it is just like, you know, you know, just something to do, just fuck something to do, and it's not it's not that deep.
- 20:00SPEAKER_06: It was fucking funny though, like had the idea of like, well, let's all go to the studio and all of us be there all the time.
- 20:05SPEAKER_06: And like for a few of us, best week ever, for Lockie recording it, worst week of his fucking life, I reckon.
- 20:11SPEAKER_06: And Fraser will never do that shit again.
- 20:13SPEAKER_06: Uh he's been telling us that it was fun, Locke.
- 20:16SPEAKER_04: But he's you know, he'll wait until the invoices are settled and then waiting for it.
- 20:20SPEAKER_06: I think he would have said it was funny, put it went, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: No, it went, um, yeah, no, it went, it went well.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: I think that's more of a that's more of a hymn, I reckon.
- 20:26SPEAKER_06: A lot of uh up up at the end of there.
- 20:31unknown: Yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_06: It was good.
- 20:33SPEAKER_06: Um yeah, no, awesome.
- 20:35SPEAKER_03: Awesome, awesome Peach King.
- 20:37SPEAKER_06: Awesome.
- 20:38SPEAKER_03: For listeners who haven't heard it, go revisit Feelings on Tick, uh the debut album for WinBig.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Sounds like there's some new music on the horizon, yeah, and plenty of shows to get around as well.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: Guys, thanks so much for coming and having a chat to us today.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: Thanks so much.
