- 0:08Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everyone? Welcome into another episode of
- 0:11Speaker 1: the Checko Daily. It's Andrew de Checko, Eagles beat reporter
- 0:15Speaker 1: for insidethebirds dot Com, and despite heroics from quarterback Tanner
- 0:19Speaker 1: McKee and running back Carson Steele, the Eagles were unable
- 0:24Speaker 1: to leave Gillette Stadium with a win Saturday evening, dropping
- 0:27Speaker 1: their preseason matchup with the Patriots by a score of
- 0:30Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty one. And let me just set
- 0:34Speaker 1: the scene. I have my notes and observations for you.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But the Eagles led by four with five to ZHO
- 0:40Speaker 1: five remaining, but Patriots quarterback Braver and Morton would author
- 0:44Speaker 1: a comeback, leading an eleven play seventy three yard drive
- 0:49Speaker 1: and on a first and ten from the Eagles, thirty
- 0:51Speaker 1: seven cornerback Sean Wade, who also forced to fumble in
- 0:54Speaker 1: this game, was tagged with a defensive pass interference penalty,
- 0:59Speaker 1: and then on the ensuing play, Morton delivered a thirty
- 1:02Speaker 1: seven yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Nick Degenero, who
- 1:05Speaker 1: I mentioned in my practice notes, actually to pull ahead
- 1:09Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty one with just under a minute
- 1:12Speaker 1: to play. Eagles rookie quarterback Cole Payton would get the
- 1:15Speaker 1: nod on the ensuing series, but he wasn't able to
- 1:21Speaker 1: author comeback of his own. He was sacked by linebacker
- 1:24Speaker 1: Quintavius Hutchins and he lost the football. Would have been
- 1:29Speaker 1: a pretty monumental feat to be able to march the
- 1:31Speaker 1: football down there with a reserve offensive line and rookie
- 1:34Speaker 1: Cole Payton, who still needs a lot of work as
- 1:37Speaker 1: a passer. But I thought the Eagles showed a lot
- 1:39Speaker 1: offensively in this game. That's what you want to see
- 1:43Speaker 1: in this type of performance based off of how the
- 1:46Speaker 1: first game went, where they weren't able to generate any
- 1:48Speaker 1: semblance of offense. This game told a different story, and
- 1:52Speaker 1: Eagles quarterback Tenner McKee led the way offensively. He completed
- 1:56Speaker 1: sixteen of twenty two pass attempts for one hundred and
- 1:59Speaker 1: seventy three yards and two touchdowns. Running Backs Will Shipley
- 2:02Speaker 1: and Carson Steele rushed for fifty six and thirty three
- 2:05Speaker 1: yards respectively. Carson Steele actually led all Eagles receivers, pulling
- 2:10Speaker 1: in six of seven targets for eighty six yards and
- 2:13Speaker 1: a twenty yard touchdown. More on both players as I
- 2:17Speaker 1: worked through my observations here but defensively, the Eagles recorded
- 2:23Speaker 1: four sacks, with second year defensive tackle Tyve Robinson accounting
- 2:26Speaker 1: for two of those. Outside linebacker Joshua wayru and linebacker
- 2:30Speaker 1: Jeremiah Trotter Junior collected the others. Scary start to the
- 2:36Speaker 1: game as running back Jaquindon Jackson tackled Lan Larison following
- 2:40Speaker 1: a twenty five yard return on the opening kickoff just
- 2:43Speaker 1: five seconds into the game. It looked like Jackson took
- 2:46Speaker 1: a helmet took a knee to the helmet. He was
- 2:49Speaker 1: down for a long while before being loaded onto a stretcher.
- 2:52Speaker 1: As the Eagles sideline emptied onto the field to support
- 2:55Speaker 1: their teammate. Jackson did give two thumbs up and then
- 2:59Speaker 1: he was then hauled away in an ambulance, which the
- 3:02Speaker 1: ambulance actually drove right onto the field. You don't often
- 3:05Speaker 1: see that, but some more notes from the From the
- 3:11Speaker 1: first defensive series, Larison picked up twenty eight yards on
- 3:15Speaker 1: the first quarter. It was a screen pass and the
- 3:19Speaker 1: play was sprung by right guard Jacob Rizzy, who climbed
- 3:22Speaker 1: to the second level. He covered up Eagles linebacker Smile
- 3:25Speaker 1: Monden Jr. Monden Jr. Also Did well to sort of
- 3:30Speaker 1: knife through the offensive line and maneuver the running back
- 3:33Speaker 1: on another play, but he failed to finish and wrap
- 3:36Speaker 1: up the quarterback. He was also sent on another blitz
- 3:40Speaker 1: in the second quarter. He blew up running back to
- 3:42Speaker 1: Michael Hasty, but again Smile was unable to finish the play.
- 3:47Speaker 1: You'd like to see him be able to close, but
- 3:51Speaker 1: he is probably at his best as a run and
- 3:53Speaker 1: hit linebacker at this point of his career. He's a
- 3:55Speaker 1: smaller guy, but the athleticism and instincts are very apparent,
- 3:59Speaker 1: as I've outlined, But rather than navigating through traffic, I think,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and all that being said, it's very apparent that the
- 4:07Speaker 1: Eagles do have some talent to mold. Then he's a
- 4:10Speaker 1: fourth linebacker. So as a young developmental player who's excellent
- 4:15Speaker 1: on special teams, who has those athletic traits, you can
- 4:18Speaker 1: work with a player like that. You don't need him
- 4:20Speaker 1: to step in there and play defense. He's clearly a
- 4:22Speaker 1: work in progress there, but you can see signs of
- 4:27Speaker 1: a player that is worth developing, and that is Smile,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Mond and Junior. Good stuff from defensive lineman Gabe Hall
- 4:35Speaker 1: early in this one. The third year defensive lineman showcased
- 4:39Speaker 1: his length and athleticism when he split the double team.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I believe it was Patriots offensive lineman James Hudson third
- 4:45Speaker 1: and Marcus Bryant. He was able to make a play
- 4:47Speaker 1: in the run game as a result of that. He
- 4:50Speaker 1: also drew a Hudson holding penalty on the tail end
- 4:53Speaker 1: of Alarison run. There was also a play, if you
- 4:57Speaker 1: may be able to remember, it was in the first
- 4:59Speaker 1: first held where Gabe Hall read and redirected when he
- 5:05Speaker 1: was closing ground on Tommy DeVito. Rather than being sucked inside,
- 5:10Speaker 1: he kind of pivoted and was able to kind of
- 5:13Speaker 1: close the gap there. And that was a play that
- 5:17Speaker 1: Tommy DeVito attempted a hasty short toss to the right.
- 5:21Speaker 1: He was trying to get it to tight end Jack Westover,
- 5:24Speaker 1: but it was deflected at the line of scrimmage by
- 5:26Speaker 1: outside linebacker Jose Ramirez. Look, Gabe Hall has had a
- 5:30Speaker 1: quiet summer, certainly relative to last summer, but I think
- 5:34Speaker 1: he helped himself with a productive week in Foxborough. He
- 5:37Speaker 1: was able to put some good things on tape. In
- 5:39Speaker 1: this game. The Eagles have a very deep defensive line,
- 5:42Speaker 1: so it's going to be very difficult for Gabe to
- 5:44Speaker 1: be able to muscle his way into the picture there,
- 5:47Speaker 1: But that tape's available to thirty one other team, so
- 5:50Speaker 1: he probably helped himself there. If not, he could have
- 5:54Speaker 1: another spot on the Eagles practice squad. But that just
- 5:57Speaker 1: indicates how deep the Eagles are. They needed another point
- 6:01Speaker 1: of reference. That just illustrates how deep the egos are
- 6:04Speaker 1: at that particular position.
- 6:06Speaker 2: As I've gotten older, I've really tried to concentrate on
- 6:09Speaker 2: my physical health, my body, making sure I'm putting the
- 6:13Speaker 2: right things in and the healthiest things in. I've always
- 6:15Speaker 2: heard about creatine, but I wasn't really sure about using
- 6:19Speaker 2: creatine supplements until I did the research to find out
- 6:22Speaker 2: what it was really all about. That's when I found Momentous,
- 6:25Speaker 2: which created Signature spec Creatine, their most advanced creatine ever,
- 6:31Speaker 2: setting a new standard for creatine quality. It's one of
- 6:34Speaker 2: the only creatines to be manufactured in a pharmaceutical facility
- 6:38Speaker 2: using reverse osmosis water purification and verified through an expanded
- 6:43Speaker 2: six stage testing process with four independent agencies. They've improved
- 6:48Speaker 2: the product experience with ultrafying powder that mixes effortlessly with
- 6:53Speaker 2: no grit or clumping. Hey, look, I like a good
- 6:56Speaker 2: creatine shake in the afternoon, and it's got to taste
- 6:59Speaker 2: good and be smooth. The benefits of creatine are very real.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It supports strength, power, lean muscle growth, recovery, and even
- 7:07Speaker 2: improve cognitive performance. And as I get older, all those
- 7:10Speaker 2: things are so much more important to me than they
- 7:13Speaker 2: used to be. If you want to try momentous signature
- 7:15Speaker 2: spect creatine, head to livemomentous dot com and use code
- 7:20Speaker 2: birds for up to thirty five percent off your entire
- 7:24Speaker 2: first order. That's livemomentous dot com promo code birds for

- 7:32Speaker 1: Promo code birds.
- 7:34Speaker 2: I know how I feel when I wake up in
- 7:35Speaker 2: the morning. I have so many things on my mind.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I can't get any of this done until I have
- 7:41Speaker 2: my first cup of coffee. I know a lot of
- 7:43Speaker 2: you feel the same way. You either need that coffee,
- 7:46Speaker 2: that nicotine pouch, maybe even energy drink to get yourself
- 7:50Speaker 2: through the day. We go to these great lengths to
- 7:53Speaker 2: stay healthy, whether it's going to the gym or trying
- 7:55Speaker 2: to get the right amount of sleep, eating better. Then
- 7:58Speaker 2: we'll put these chemicals in our body just to make
- 8:00Speaker 2: it through the day. But I've been using ultrapouches for
- 8:02Speaker 2: a long time, and let me tell you it's a
- 8:04Speaker 2: game changer for focus and energy. First off, they're completely
- 8:09Speaker 2: nicotine free and caffeine free. Ultra partnered with leading neuroscientists.

- 8:42Speaker 2: and zero caffeine. Ultrapouch is actually trusted by top athletes, entrepreneurs,
- 8:47Speaker 2: and engineers around the world. Even Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow
- 8:50Speaker 2: backs ultrapouchies. Ultra is the ultimate guilt free pouch, delivering

- 9:18Speaker 1: Eagles third year running back Will Shipley captain impressive center
- 9:21Speaker 1: joint practices where he was just providing splash plays as
- 9:24Speaker 1: a receiver and as a runner. He had a strong
- 9:27Speaker 1: performance against the Patriots on Saturday Night, and he showcased
- 9:31Speaker 1: juice and juice and power. He produced fifty six yards
- 9:34Speaker 1: and a touchdown on eleven carries. The biggest difference, if
- 9:38Speaker 1: you want my honest evaluation here in Shipley's game, relative
- 9:42Speaker 1: to maybe his first two seasons, is that he's running tougher,
- 9:47Speaker 1: He's running harder. His ability to play through contact is evident,
- 9:51Speaker 1: and against the Patriots, he kept his legs churning and
- 9:53Speaker 1: made the Patriots defender's work to bring him down. I
- 9:56Speaker 1: noted this earlier in the summer that it appeared that
- 9:58Speaker 1: Shipley had bulked up a little bit in the offseason.
- 10:01Speaker 1: And it's tough running in a game setting because you
- 10:04Speaker 1: can't tackle to the ground in practice, so it's always
- 10:06Speaker 1: really tough to gauge, but in a game setting it
- 10:11Speaker 1: supports that and Shipley's roster spot was always secure. For
- 10:14Speaker 1: those wondering He's a core special teamer, notably serving as
- 10:18Speaker 1: the personal protector on punt and he's also the team's
- 10:21Speaker 1: kickoff returner, and so it was good to see him
- 10:25Speaker 1: get out there. He did some good things in the opener,
- 10:27Speaker 1: but in this game, I thought that he was really
- 10:29Speaker 1: able to read his blocks take advantage of the play
- 10:34Speaker 1: of the second team offensive line, which I'm going to
- 10:36Speaker 1: highlight here shortly, and that was good to see Shipley
- 10:40Speaker 1: be able to cap what was a productive week for him.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Talking about the offensive line, I've often written and discussed.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I've mentioned this recently over the airwaves when asked, and
- 10:52Speaker 1: I will sometimes voluntarily mention this group because throughout the
- 10:56Speaker 1: summer watching them every practice, I've been very impressed with
- 11:00Speaker 1: the Eagles second team offensive line. It's a far cry
- 11:03Speaker 1: from the line that you saw last summer, where I
- 11:05Speaker 1: thought that they had a lot of questions in terms
- 11:07Speaker 1: of depth. You had Kendall Lamb, you had Matt pryor
- 11:11Speaker 1: this group here you see youth athleticism upside, and I
- 11:15Speaker 1: think the Eagles are setting themselves up for the future
- 11:19Speaker 1: success having young pieces in place. And they were largely
- 11:23Speaker 1: responsible for kickstarting the Eagles offense with a dominant effort
- 11:27Speaker 1: in the run game. The four players who specifically deserve
- 11:31Speaker 1: a mention include Mark hel Bell, Willie Lampkin, Drew Kendall,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and Jake Majors. On Shipley's first carry, which was an
- 11:37Speaker 1: eighteen yarder, it was key blocks from Bell, Lampkin and
- 11:41Speaker 1: Majors that sprung them, and when Shipley scored from five
- 11:45Speaker 1: yards out, it was Kendall and Lampkin who paved the way.
- 11:49Speaker 1: An argument can be made, and I've said this, and
- 11:51Speaker 1: I don't think it's hyperbole that Kendall has taken one
- 11:54Speaker 1: of the biggest jumps within the past year. I've been
- 11:56Speaker 1: really impressed with Drew Kendall. Just a growth in terms
- 12:01Speaker 1: of play strength, He added weight, he's three zero five now,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and just taking the cross training and embracing it and
- 12:10Speaker 1: being able to showcase that he can also be an
- 12:13Speaker 1: effective guard as well. Needless to say, that's going to
- 12:16Speaker 1: be hugely critical for the Eagles, as he will be
- 12:18Speaker 1: the team's top interior offensive lineman. On game day and
- 12:23Speaker 1: it was Kendall left the game early, which was expected,
- 12:27Speaker 1: but I thought it was also notable that so too
- 12:30Speaker 1: did Willie Lampkin. I felt pretty strong. I felt pretty
- 12:33Speaker 1: strongly about Lampkin's prospects for the fifty three man roster
- 12:37Speaker 1: coming into the year, and his limited snaps always confirmed it.
- 12:43Speaker 1: How about this. When I asked Wednesday about the performance
- 12:46Speaker 1: of second year defensive tackle ty Robinson in the preseason opener,
- 12:49Speaker 1: Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Vangio did not mince words. He said,
- 12:54Speaker 1: he came to life. He's been on life support since
- 12:57Speaker 1: he's been here, but he came to life and hopefully
- 12:59Speaker 1: that will continue well. Against the Patriots, Ty Robinson produced
- 13:03Speaker 1: four tackles and a pair of sacks, giving him now
- 13:05Speaker 1: three over a two game span. Midway through training camp,
- 13:09Speaker 1: probably right around his dust up with right guard Tyler Steen,
- 13:12Speaker 1: now that I think of it, Robinson started to come
- 13:14Speaker 1: on in practice. He was winning his one on one
- 13:16Speaker 1: matchups with his patented club move that he likes to
- 13:19Speaker 1: go to, and he flashed also during team periods. Sometimes,
- 13:24Speaker 1: as I often say, young players simply need time to
- 13:27Speaker 1: grow and develop. Patience is required, regardless of how much
- 13:32Speaker 1: experience you come into the NFL with from the collegiate
- 13:34Speaker 1: level or how old you are. Sometimes you need patients
- 13:38Speaker 1: and you have to be able to have that kind
- 13:40Speaker 1: of patience to see it through, and as he continues
- 13:43Speaker 1: to stack days, Robinson seems to be building confidence. He
- 13:48Speaker 1: isn't likely to leap frog Byron Young in the pecking order.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Let's not go overboard here, but Robinson, as Fangio said,
- 13:56Speaker 1: has come to life. Let's talk quarterbacks because while Andy
- 14:02Speaker 1: Dalton again underwhelmed, completing three of ten pass attempts for
- 14:05Speaker 1: forty four yards, Saturday was a nice bounce back for
- 14:09Speaker 1: fourth year quarterback Tanner McKee, who I mentioned, completed sixteen
- 14:12Speaker 1: of twenty two pass attempts for one to seventy three
- 14:15Speaker 1: and two touchdowns, the touchdowns being a fourteen yard at
- 14:18Speaker 1: a wide receiver Britton Covey and a twenty yard at
- 14:20Speaker 1: a running back Carson Steel. But it was more about
- 14:23Speaker 1: how Tanner McKee looked. There have been a lot of
- 14:26Speaker 1: moments this summer, and I've talked about this where McKee
- 14:30Speaker 1: appeared hesitant and discombobulated, and that might be a byproduct
- 14:34Speaker 1: of learning a new offense. But against the Patriots, he
- 14:36Speaker 1: got the ball out quickly and on time, and he
- 14:39Speaker 1: kept the offense on schedule. The Eagles all summer have
- 14:42Speaker 1: rotated McKee and Dalton with the second unit, and it
- 14:45Speaker 1: had essentially been a fairly even competition if we're being honest,
- 14:49Speaker 1: But it feels like McKee, with his performance against the Patriots,
- 14:52Speaker 1: has moved ahead.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Nobody loves grilling more than me. Could be thirty degrees
- 14:58Speaker 2: and I'll be out there grilling burghers and steaks. But
- 15:01Speaker 2: the one thing that I really can't stand is losing
- 15:04Speaker 2: my fish and my veggies because they just can't grill
- 15:08Speaker 2: without falling through. That's why I've been using xclads. BBQ Collection.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's bringing hybrid technology outdoors with products specifically designed to
- 15:17Speaker 2: make grilling easier, especially when you're cooking foods that normally
- 15:21Speaker 2: don't cooperate on a traditional grill. The hex Clad BBU
- 15:25Speaker 2: Grill Plan combines the seering power of stainless steel, the
- 15:28Speaker 2: durability of cast iron, and the convenience of nonstick all
- 15:32Speaker 2: in one versatile grill pan. They've also launched their new
- 15:35Speaker 2: BBQ Grill Topper that gives you even more control when
- 15:38Speaker 2: you're cooking delicate foods like veggies or seafood, or if
- 15:42Speaker 2: you're cooking multiple portions.
- 15:43Speaker 1: At one time.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Last week, I grilled the Best Surf and Turf My Style,
- 15:48Speaker 2: which is salmon and ribs and lost none of it
- 15:51Speaker 2: because I used Xclouds BBQ collection. With over one million
- 15:55Speaker 2: customers and more than fifty thousand five star reviews, it's
- 15:59Speaker 2: clear people love cooking with Hexclad. There's a reason Gordon
- 16:03Speaker 2: Ramsey uses xclad at his home and in his restaurants,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and he's the toughest critic.
- 16:07Speaker 1: On the planet.
- 16:08Speaker 2: So if you're planning on spending time behind the grill
- 16:10Speaker 2: this summer, don't make it harder than it needs to be.

- 17:30Speaker 2: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 17:33Speaker 2: one and up.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Carson Steele, who landed a pair of hurdles in this one,
- 17:39Speaker 1: is a fun player to watch. He resembles a wrecking
- 17:42Speaker 1: ball in the open field and with the Eagles light
- 17:45Speaker 1: on running backs, I mean, you know, Jackson left the
- 17:47Speaker 1: game five seconds in with a scary injury. Tank Bixby
- 17:51Speaker 1: wasn't going to see any work in this game. Carson
- 17:54Speaker 1: Steele took advantage of the extra work. He produced one
- 17:56Speaker 1: hundred and seventeen in all purpose yards, including a twenty
- 17:59Speaker 1: yard touchdown Steele. Like Shipley, he grinded out yards on
- 18:03Speaker 1: the ground. He wasn't as successful as Will was on
- 18:06Speaker 1: the ground. That could be a byproduct of him working
- 18:10Speaker 1: with a deeper reserve offensive line. But where Steel really
- 18:14Speaker 1: dazzled was as a pass catcher, which he accounted for
- 18:18Speaker 1: eighty six yards, and there was an anger and a
- 18:22Speaker 1: desperation demonstrated with every touch. And Steel, by the way,
- 18:25Speaker 1: also reps as a personal protector on punt. What I've
- 18:29Speaker 1: noticed about him is the Eagles seemed to give him
- 18:32Speaker 1: a lot of reps on kick coverage and things like that.
- 18:36Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure how he would even fit into
- 18:38Speaker 1: the roster mix because you have your three running backs
- 18:41Speaker 1: and Barkley, Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley. I think having
- 18:45Speaker 1: four be a luxury. He might be able to be
- 18:47Speaker 1: a practice squad candidate, but you have to look at everything,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and practice counts for a lot. These preseason games are
- 18:54Speaker 1: also part of the evaluation process. But I think to
- 18:57Speaker 1: just assume that now, all of a sudden, Carsons deal
- 19:00Speaker 1: is going to be in the mix for a spot
- 19:02Speaker 1: on the fifty three might be a little premature, might
- 19:05Speaker 1: be a little unrealistic. You have to let things play out.
- 19:09Speaker 1: If he's able to really carve out a role on
- 19:12Speaker 1: special teams, maybe you have a case. And I think
- 19:15Speaker 1: he certainly helped himself, whether it be with the Eagles
- 19:18Speaker 1: or another team. But he was just a fun player
- 19:21Speaker 1: to watch. I like this quote when we talked to
- 19:24Speaker 1: Carson Steele earlier in training camp about his physicality, he said,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I'm a big weight room guy, love that type of stuff.
- 19:30Speaker 1: So I feel like that's really kind of where when
- 19:33Speaker 1: I can show myself is when the pads come on
- 19:35Speaker 1: and we actually get physical contact. His play on Saturday
- 19:39Speaker 1: night certainly illustrated that. Nice response from wide receiver Darius Cooper,
- 19:44Speaker 1: who recorded forty four yards on three catches. The second
- 19:48Speaker 1: year receiver had twenty one yards on two catches on
- 19:51Speaker 1: five targets last week. He had to drop as well
- 19:54Speaker 1: on a third down, but he found the sawt spots
- 19:57Speaker 1: and covers and he was strong to the football. Cooper
- 19:59Speaker 1: was on receiving end of a thirteen yard pass from
- 20:02Speaker 1: Andy Dalton on a fourth and one in the first quarter,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and two other skilled players who deserve a mention here,
- 20:08Speaker 1: tight ends Cameron Latu and e J. Jenkins, both were
- 20:11Speaker 1: extremely physical at the point of attack. They created running
- 20:14Speaker 1: lanes for Shipley and Steel, while Latsu also looked Spry
- 20:18Speaker 1: on a fourteen yard catch and run. Really cool moment
- 20:23Speaker 1: in the second half that illustrated the Eagles pension for
- 20:26Speaker 1: player development. Rookies and international player Pathway defensive tackle or
- 20:32Speaker 1: Bernard an outside linebacker Joshua wereu factored into the box
- 20:36Speaker 1: score in their second game ever. Wayrou dropped Pat's quarterback
- 20:40Speaker 1: Brewin Morton on the in the third quarter for a
- 20:43Speaker 1: seven yard loss to force a punt, and Bernard did
- 20:46Speaker 1: well to shed a couple blocks and register a couple tackles.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Their hard work behind the scenes is apparent watching them
- 20:53Speaker 1: every day and how they're taking to coaching, how they're
- 20:57Speaker 1: picking the brains of their teammates, and you could see
- 20:59Speaker 1: how excite their teammates were when they saw them go
- 21:02Speaker 1: out there and make some plays. That's apparent. But even
- 21:06Speaker 1: though vic Vango will tell you that both are light
- 21:08Speaker 1: years away, just providing perspective there, which I think is important.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Their performance in these games is an indication of how
- 21:16Speaker 1: far they've come in just a few months time. For perspective.
- 21:21Speaker 1: The first time either player doned a football helmet was
- 21:23Speaker 1: back in the spring for rookie mini camp. And then lastly,
- 21:28Speaker 1: all I have here is that it was a rough
- 21:30Speaker 1: go of it for a handful of Eagles reserve cornerbacks.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Ambry Thomas, who struggled in one on ones during joint practices,
- 21:38Speaker 1: was beaten down the field by wide receiver Kyle Williams,
- 21:40Speaker 1: who pulled away for a sixty nine yard touchdown, and
- 21:43Speaker 1: with an under a minute to play, Morton capped a
- 21:46Speaker 1: seventy two yard drive with a thirty seven yard touchdown
- 21:49Speaker 1: strike to wide receiver Nick Degenero, who beat cornerback Isaiah Bolden,
- 21:54Speaker 1: former New England Patriot, to take the lead. Now, Isaiah
- 21:57Speaker 1: Bolden just got to Philadelphia less than a week ago.
- 22:00Speaker 1: He's probably still trying to get a feel for the defense.
- 22:03Speaker 1: He had a nice moment where he broke up a
- 22:05Speaker 1: pass against Kai Shan Boody in the joint practices in
- 22:09Speaker 1: a situational period. He was then beaten by Booty on
- 22:13Speaker 1: the next play or two plays later. And then in
- 22:16Speaker 1: this game it looked like Morton was kind of picking
- 22:19Speaker 1: on him a little bit. And then Sean Wade, who
- 22:21Speaker 1: forced a fumble for the second consecutive week, was tagged
- 22:27Speaker 1: with a defensive pass interference penalty on the previous play,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and then kiey Ringo in the second quarter was hit
- 22:33Speaker 1: with an illegal contact penalty. Killey Ringo has trouble avoiding penalties.
- 22:39Speaker 1: He gets hansy. You'd like to see him be able
- 22:42Speaker 1: to shed some of that the longer he's been in
- 22:44Speaker 1: the NFL, be able to work through some of those
- 22:46Speaker 1: things and have better technique, but he just seems to
- 22:49Speaker 1: be always prone to these illegal contact and defensive pass
- 22:53Speaker 1: interference penalties. He's such an athletic player, but you like
- 22:57Speaker 1: to see him play with more discipline, and I think
- 22:59Speaker 1: that's been sort of the duality of kiey Ringo. You'll
- 23:02Speaker 1: see the interception like you had in the end zone
- 23:04Speaker 1: last week, You'll see the DPI that he had last week,
- 23:07Speaker 1: and then you'll see the penalty that he had now.
- 23:09Speaker 1: He just hasn't been able to put it all together.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But I thought, by and large, was a really productive
- 23:15Speaker 1: week for the Philadelphia Eagles, who spent the week there
- 23:17Speaker 1: in Foxborough. That the starters got their quality work during
- 23:20Speaker 1: the joint practices, and this game, as I've outlined, was
- 23:24Speaker 1: going to always be reserved for the backups, and I
- 23:27Speaker 1: thought a lot of those players got some quality work
- 23:29Speaker 1: and help themselves in many cases. I also should probably
- 23:32Speaker 1: mention that Kapina gushigin the undrafted rookie who's repped at
- 23:37Speaker 1: safety and nickelback in training camp, he started the game
- 23:40Speaker 1: at nickelback. They had Mac McWilliams starting on the outside
- 23:44Speaker 1: and Keey Ringo on the other side. They're really light
- 23:46Speaker 1: at corner, but I understand that Michael Carter was playing
- 23:49Speaker 1: safety with Andre sam that was the starting safety tandem.
- 23:53Speaker 1: But it is interesting that gusha Kin's been starting to
- 23:55Speaker 1: get some early work in the past couple of preseason games.
- 23:59Speaker 1: I've noticed them a litle little bit more in training camp
- 24:01Speaker 1: get some work at safety. Seems like the Eagles like them.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I know that they also probably like Maximus Polley a
- 24:07Speaker 1: little bit, but it seems like Gushakin's a player that
- 24:10Speaker 1: has intrigued them some. And context is always important because
- 24:15Speaker 1: if you're starting Mac McWilliams on the outside, and if
- 24:19Speaker 1: Michael Carter the second is playing safety, who really is
- 24:22Speaker 1: the backup nickelback to Cooper Degen. There's not a lot
- 24:24Speaker 1: of options there. But I did find it interesting that
- 24:27Speaker 1: they're working Goosha cain In and the fact that Gushikin
- 24:30Speaker 1: was active in making tackles and doing some different things
- 24:33Speaker 1: and helping himself with the opportunities that he was getting.
- 24:36Speaker 1: That's a name that you're gonna want to monitor over
- 24:38Speaker 1: the next ten days or so because I understand that
- 24:42Speaker 1: it's a little bit difficult to envision him being able
- 24:45Speaker 1: to make the fifty three. But bear in mind that
- 24:48Speaker 1: the Eagles most every year, really dating back to twenty twenty,
- 24:51Speaker 1: without getting two further back, they have a propensity to
- 24:55Speaker 1: at least keep one undrafted rookie. I would look at
- 24:58Speaker 1: Gushakin and or linebacker Deontay Lawson if you're looking at
- 25:03Speaker 1: it from a twenty twenty six class. This is a
- 25:06Speaker 1: pretty deep roster. It's not going to be easy to
- 25:09Speaker 1: latch on, and it would require the Eagles keeping five
- 25:12Speaker 1: linebackers for Lawton to be able to stick. It would
- 25:15Speaker 1: require the Eagles to go maybe heavier at defensive back
- 25:19Speaker 1: if Gooshi can were to stick. But both of those
- 25:21Speaker 1: players are worth monitoring over the next ten days or
- 25:24Speaker 1: so as the Eagles have some difficult decisions to make
- 25:27Speaker 1: as they parse the roster down to fifty three. Players.
- 25:31Speaker 1: We'll have an off day tomorrow and they're back at
- 25:33Speaker 1: it for more practice next week. I'll have more updates
- 25:36Speaker 1: for you on Inside the Birds dot com and of
- 25:38Speaker 1: course right here onto check odaily And with that, I'm
- 25:42Speaker 1: Andrew de Checo and I'll catch you all on the
- 25:46Speaker 1: next one.
