Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Pit Talk, a Fox Sports and
- 0:03Speaker 1: Speed Cafe Formula one podcast. On today's episode, Sergio Perez
- 0:08Speaker 1: is under pressure to lift his game or face the
- 0:10Speaker 1: sack after six races of underperformance. Could that leave the
- 0:14Speaker 1: door open to a shock? Red Bull Racing comeback for
- 0:17Speaker 1: Daniel Ricardo and Lewis Hamilton claims a record breaking ninth
- 0:21Speaker 1: British Grand Prix victory as the top three teams converge
- 0:24Speaker 1: at the front of the field. My name is Michael Lomonado,
- 0:27Speaker 1: motorsport rider for Fox Sports Australia. It's great to have
- 0:30Speaker 1: your company again after our extended break and the company
- 0:34Speaker 1: of my co hosts from Speed Cafe. He's also added
- 0:36Speaker 1: his name to the list of teams pitching to hire
- 0:39Speaker 1: Carlos Signs this month. Is Matt Kosh.
- 0:42Speaker 2: My name's also on the list of those wanting to
- 0:44Speaker 2: drive at williams Audi. Where else is therea gig going
- 0:48Speaker 2: at the moment? Has and hell why not Red Bull?
- 0:52Speaker 2: Let's go for broke.
- 0:53Speaker 1: You may as well. The list is long, but the
- 0:55Speaker 1: names are repetitive, so might not include yourself on them.
- 0:58Speaker 3: It's been a little bit.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Of I'm that actually I can't remember when our last
- 1:01Speaker 1: podcast was two three months ago.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't. My beard scale is sort of about
- 1:07Speaker 2: the window. But it does feel like the beard's a
- 1:11Speaker 2: little bit longer than it was back then.
- 1:14Speaker 1: It's as solid as ever, though the fault is mine,
- 1:16Speaker 1: of course. I've welcomed two newborns into my household and
- 1:19Speaker 1: I am yet to sleep. So it's been two long months.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But we are getting back into the swing of things
- 1:25Speaker 1: just in time for the mid season break pretty much,
- 1:26Speaker 1: which is the.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Way if you've not slept with two newborns. This this
- 1:30Speaker 2: pollet is going to get loose.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, well, just you wait until the later we get
- 1:34Speaker 1: into the season. We've got some different segments planned for
- 1:37Speaker 1: this comeback, and some of them do have the potentially
- 1:40Speaker 1: thing to get loose. Maybe not today but in future weeks. Absolutely,
- 1:45Speaker 1: But Matt, it's been to be a couple of obviously,
- 1:46Speaker 1: it's been to be a couple of weeks in Formula
- 1:47Speaker 1: one about a triple header. It feels like fulling on
- 1:50Speaker 1: didn't stop for the last month. Because it didn't. But
- 1:54Speaker 1: let's it through. Let's skip through rapidly in rapid fire mode.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Some of the big headlines from the last Let's keep
- 2:00Speaker 1: each one to sixty seconds as well, and see if
- 2:02Speaker 1: we can summarize them. I'm going to start off first
- 2:04Speaker 1: of all with, as we tease in the start of
- 2:06Speaker 1: the opening to the podcast, Carlos Science. We all thought
- 2:10Speaker 1: he was going straight to Audi after being sacked by Ferrari.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Then it was well maybe Williams. Now it's oh wow.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Actually el Paine is also a team in Formula One,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and now Mercedes seems to be his expanded list of
- 2:20Speaker 1: options betweeny twenty five Matt. The driver market's already feeling
- 2:24Speaker 1: pretty protracted. We are going to talk a little bit
- 2:26Speaker 1: more about it later on in the podcast, but this
- 2:29Speaker 1: feels like it could delay everything by months.
- 2:31Speaker 3: We may not even get a decision this year.
- 2:32Speaker 2: For all we know, you'll all go into next year
- 2:35Speaker 2: and just there will be a bunch of empty cars
- 2:37Speaker 2: on the grid. The driver market is still really fluid,
- 2:42Speaker 2: and Carlos is sort of the key to that, isn't
- 2:45Speaker 2: he because he's the highest credential and highest caliber driver
- 2:48Speaker 2: that it's available. But you get this feeling, and James
- 2:52Speaker 2: Vower sort of alluded to it over the weekend in
- 2:54Speaker 2: Silverstone that people are getting a little bit fed up.
- 2:57Speaker 2: They wanted to make a decision so that they can
- 2:59Speaker 2: make a decision because hangs on what he does, and
- 3:02Speaker 2: so many pieces will fall into place. So you get
- 3:03Speaker 2: the feeling that people are now going to start making
- 3:06Speaker 2: choices and firming up what they're going to do, and
- 3:10Speaker 2: Carlos could be left out in the cult here. Obviously,
- 3:12Speaker 2: what he's trying to do is pick the least worst option,
- 3:14Speaker 2: because he's got three on the table, being has Saba
- 3:18Speaker 2: and Williams, and it's where are you're going to go?
- 3:21Speaker 2: You don't look at twenty five, you look at twenty
- 3:23Speaker 2: six and beyonders. That's that's a difficult game.
- 3:27Speaker 1: We've already gone twenty two seconds over in our very
- 3:30Speaker 1: first version of this minter segment. So we're off to
- 3:32Speaker 1: flying start. Let's move on to LP and it's power
- 3:38Speaker 1: unit supposedly a Works team the French manufacturer is considering,
- 3:42Speaker 1: as essentially confirmed by Mercedes boss Toto Wolf, ditching that
- 3:46Speaker 1: power unit for twenty twenty six and moving on to
- 3:48Speaker 1: a customer supply matt Works engine deals as sort of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the most sought after thing as a manufacturer in Formula one.
- 3:55Speaker 1: How does this make any sense?
- 3:58Speaker 2: It makes a lot of sense. Because running an in
- 4:01Speaker 2: house engine program costs you from twenty twenty six about
- 4:04Speaker 2: one hundred and thirty million dollars a year, or a
- 4:06Speaker 2: customer supply costs you seventeen million euro a year. And
- 4:10Speaker 2: let's face it, the Reno power unit is the worst
- 4:12Speaker 2: on the grid, So if you can get any other
- 4:13Speaker 2: power unit, your quid's up already and you make the
- 4:17Speaker 2: team more attractive to sell. Interesting that Toto Wolf commented
- 4:20Speaker 2: on this because he's not the head of the department
- 4:22Speaker 2: that makes a decision on messedes behalf. That's Mercedes HPP,
- 4:25Speaker 2: who is Hugh Thomas. But I don't think that's going
- 4:29Speaker 2: to happen anyway. I think I'll end up with with Honda,
- 4:31Speaker 2: based on a couple of conversations that I've had and
- 4:34Speaker 2: the obligation to supply clause within the technical regulations of
- 4:37Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. Actually wrote an article about that on
- 4:40Speaker 2: speed Cafe that by the time you listening to this
- 4:42Speaker 2: went out yesterday.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Very good sizzle first said article that was more I
- 4:47Speaker 1: was closer to a minute. I'm happy with that. Yes,
- 4:49Speaker 1: let's move on to news that happened overnight, at least
- 4:51Speaker 1: when you're probably listening to this podcast, and it's Drigo
- 4:54Speaker 1: Carbdile from Ferrari, the head of Chassis. He's now the
- 4:57Speaker 1: Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, or will be in the
- 4:59Speaker 1: future at very least he's been rumored for a little while.
- 5:02Speaker 1: That follows the appointment or the future appointment again of
- 5:05Speaker 1: Andy Cowe, the former Mercedes Engine boss, to the group
- 5:08Speaker 1: CEO of Aston Martin Performance Technologies, where he's replaced Martin
- 5:12Speaker 1: wit Marsh Matt. It's weird because off track this team
- 5:14Speaker 1: seems to be getting bigger, but on track the results
- 5:16Speaker 1: are getting worse.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, And throwing to that mixed links to Adrian Newey
- 5:21Speaker 2: and all sorts of things and all the right pieces
- 5:23Speaker 2: seem to be coming together apart from the one piece
- 5:25Speaker 2: that really matters. So it's a growth phase. We've seen
- 5:29Speaker 2: it at other teams. At some point you think it's
- 5:31Speaker 2: going to come together, but there's probably one or two
- 5:33Speaker 2: roles that need to change hands before it's a proper force.
- 5:37Speaker 1: In Formula one, Oh look, we've come in under time,
- 5:40Speaker 1: say in the last ten seconds.
- 5:42Speaker 2: All right, if they're going to be taken seriously, they
- 5:44Speaker 2: need to replace Lanstroll.
- 5:46Speaker 3: That's pretty good. Yeah, I'm happy with that we're coming
- 5:50Speaker 3: under time. I'm very pleased with that.
- 5:51Speaker 1: More driver market news though, and this time at the
- 5:53Speaker 1: very back of the grid, or almost at the very
- 5:54Speaker 1: back of the grid, and it's at Williams where James Valves,
- 5:57Speaker 1: the team principal there has been making it in clear
- 6:00Speaker 1: that Logan Sergeant's seed isn't just under threat at the
- 6:03Speaker 1: end of the year, but potentially halfway through this year
- 6:05Speaker 1: due to his continued under performance. Counter argument to that
- 6:08Speaker 1: is that he had probably the year's best performance at
- 6:11Speaker 1: the weekend at Silverston, finishing eleventh. But counter to that,
- 6:14Speaker 1: Caunter is that Mercedes junior Andrea Kimi Antonelli won his
- 6:17Speaker 1: first Formula two sprint race at the weekend in pretty
- 6:19Speaker 1: difficult conditions. That really showed where all this hype has
- 6:23Speaker 1: been coming from. Could this be our first mid season switch?
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think so, because also Alex al Want still beat him.
- 6:29Speaker 2: He might have finished eleventh, but Alex Album was ninth.
- 6:31Speaker 2: There's been links to other drivers replacing Sergeant for a
- 6:34Speaker 2: long time. Mick Schumacher has been mentioned. Franko Colopinto got
- 6:39Speaker 2: a mention in there as well by Jensen Button over
- 6:41Speaker 2: the weekend, which is interesting color Pinto is a Williams junior.
- 6:45Speaker 2: He did the FP one session for Sergeant on Friday,
- 6:48Speaker 2: so it'd be interesting. Sergeant absolutely has to improve because
- 6:52Speaker 2: the grid's so tight that you can't afford to be
- 6:54Speaker 2: giving up points, which exactly is exactly a point we're
- 6:56Speaker 2: going to mention a little bit later in conjunction with Sojo.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Perez approximately one minute. I think we have improvement to
- 7:02Speaker 1: do to tighten up this one minute.
- 7:06Speaker 2: If you were to rank us on the grid, where
- 7:08Speaker 2: are we now? Somewhere we sort of alpine hass Williams.
- 7:11Speaker 3: More like Formula two.
- 7:12Speaker 1: I think, see if you get doing yeah, que Let's
- 7:16Speaker 1: move on though, to some of the big topics of
- 7:19Speaker 1: this week. Matt Well really the big topic of this
- 7:21Speaker 1: week since the British Grand Prix, and in fact in
- 7:23Speaker 1: the days leading up to it, and it's a speculation
- 7:25Speaker 1: ramping up really quite spectacularly that Red Bull Racing is
- 7:29Speaker 1: contemplating the nuclear option of fitting Sergio Perez, perhaps as
- 7:33Speaker 1: early as the mid season break if he doesn't lift.
- 7:36Speaker 1: This comes off the back of six rounds in a
- 7:38Speaker 1: row of really quite dire performances in which he scored
- 7:41Speaker 1: just fifteen points. That's one fewer than Nico Holckenberg at
- 7:44Speaker 1: has for example, just to illustrate that one. Now, Matt,
- 7:47Speaker 1: I like a stat I think you do too. I
- 7:49Speaker 1: feel like that really binds this podcast together. I love
- 7:51Speaker 1: a good statistic. So when you run you through some
- 7:54Speaker 1: statistics we've compiled at Fox sports dot com dot are
- 7:56Speaker 1: you for an article that should be online now whenever
- 7:58Speaker 1: you're listening something we've been running in fact for the
- 8:00Speaker 1: last few weeks. But these are his qualifying and race
- 8:03Speaker 1: averages over the course of the year and how they
- 8:05Speaker 1: compare to Max.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Forstappen.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So, on average is qualifying eight point three on the
- 8:10Speaker 1: grids in what for a lot of the year was
- 8:11Speaker 1: the fastest car. That's six point four places behind Max
- 8:14Speaker 1: for stapp And that's the biggest gap of any teammates
- 8:16Speaker 1: in Formula one. The time differential is point four eight
- 8:19Speaker 1: six seconds. That's the biggest gap between teammates in Formula one.
- 8:22Speaker 1: His race results is five point eight on average. That's
- 8:25Speaker 1: four point two places behind Forstappen. The biggest gap in
- 8:28Speaker 1: Formula one one hundred and thirty seven points behind Verstappen
- 8:31Speaker 1: outscored at a rate of two point one six to
- 8:33Speaker 1: one points, the third worst in Formula one, behind only
- 8:36Speaker 1: Logan Sergeant, who's yet to score, and Kevin Magnuson, whose
- 8:39Speaker 1: gap with Maker Holckenberg, to be fair is exaggerated a
- 8:41Speaker 1: little bit by the fact both of them have scored
- 8:43Speaker 1: relatively few points, so the percentages are quite large whichever
- 8:47Speaker 1: way you cut at Matt he is the worst performing
- 8:49Speaker 1: teammate in Formula one except for that last one I
- 8:51Speaker 1: guess on points, which I explicitly pointed out. It's hard
- 8:55Speaker 1: to envisage a way he can come back convincingly, though,
- 8:59Speaker 1: isn't it, Because it's not only not the first time
- 9:02Speaker 1: this has happened, it's happened last year as well. But
- 9:05Speaker 1: even if he does perform moderately well in the next
- 9:07Speaker 1: two Grand Prix, surely performances like these are going to
- 9:10Speaker 1: be in the back of red Bull's mind for the
- 9:11Speaker 1: rest of the year.
- 9:13Speaker 2: They are some fantastic stats. I'm a big fan of those.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I appreciate that, and it spells it out perfectly, really
- 9:21Speaker 2: doesn't it. Sergio hasn't delivered anywhere near the level that
- 9:25Speaker 2: Red Bull needs, and the reason they need him scoring
- 9:29Speaker 2: is that you've got a resurgent McLaren Mercedes is back
- 9:33Speaker 2: on form Ferrari's Auto one races this year, you've got
- 9:37Speaker 2: three teams nipping at their heels. Okay, Mescedes is a
- 9:39Speaker 2: little bit further back. That could potentially challenge for the
- 9:41Speaker 2: Constructors World Championship. That's what the money is paid out against.
- 9:45Speaker 2: It's not the Driver's Championship. That's when that gets the headlines,
- 9:47Speaker 2: but the money is actually paid out in the constructors
- 9:49Speaker 2: So finishing first gives you a hell of a lot
- 9:53Speaker 2: more dosh than what finishing second does. So it's not
- 9:56Speaker 2: just we want points of bragging rights. There is a
- 9:59Speaker 2: motive behind that. At the moment, that performance delta is significant,
- 10:05Speaker 2: and it just doesn't seem like he's got any answer
- 10:07Speaker 2: to it because it's been prolonged. This is his worst
- 10:10Speaker 2: run since being at Red Bull. His previous worst run
- 10:15Speaker 2: was I think he had a five or six race
- 10:17Speaker 2: stretch in twenty twenty one where he had two DNFs,
- 10:19Speaker 2: but he still scored twenty something points in six races.
- 10:22Speaker 2: As you say, it'scored fifteen. That's abysmal for a car
- 10:25Speaker 2: that should be on the podium pretty much every weekend.
- 10:30Speaker 2: So it's crunch time, you know, Christian Horner sort of
- 10:34Speaker 2: alluded to the fact that or he joked that he
- 10:36Speaker 2: hoped the contract was going to spark him into some
- 10:39Speaker 2: new form and it didn't. And he's also said that
- 10:44Speaker 2: what he's delivering now is unsustainable. There's some big words
- 10:50Speaker 2: for a team boss at the top end of pitt
- 10:53Speaker 2: Lane and it just makes you wonder, we know how
- 10:57Speaker 2: brutal that program is. What are they thinking. It was
- 11:00Speaker 2: this time last year that they j Justison, Nick Devreese.
- 11:04Speaker 2: You know, there was a test basically this day last year,
- 11:07Speaker 2: Daniel Ricardo was doing a tire test at Silverston and
- 11:11Speaker 2: that got him the gig at Alphatarrius. That then was
- 11:15Speaker 2: that's now led on to him staying with that team.
- 11:18Speaker 2: He's one of the names that's been mentioned as a
- 11:20Speaker 2: potential candidate for Sergio's seats. So to Liam Lawson, Interestingly,
- 11:25Speaker 2: as we record this, I'm pretty sure Liam is on
- 11:27Speaker 2: track doing some stuff for red Bull. Publicly, they're saying that,
- 11:34Speaker 2: you know, it's just just a bit of error evaluation work.
- 11:37Speaker 2: It's been planned for months and there's nothing really to it,
- 11:40Speaker 2: I believe on the quiet it's a bit of benchmarking
- 11:42Speaker 2: as well. So Liam is also a contender for that seat.
- 11:46Speaker 2: So I mean that goes to show that there's two
- 11:49Speaker 2: ways of sort of looking at this. Either Sergio has
- 11:53Speaker 2: fallen that far that Red Bull and Christian Horner are
- 11:59Speaker 2: now willing to entertain drivers below a level that they
- 12:03Speaker 2: perhaps once would have, or you flip it around and
- 12:07Speaker 2: they think that highly of Liam that he's even in
- 12:09Speaker 2: that conversation in the first place. Interestingly, the one that's
- 12:13Speaker 2: not really in contention there is Yuqi.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Sonoda, which is absurd really because the whole point of
- 12:19Speaker 1: the Red Bull Junior program is to have drivers ready
- 12:21Speaker 1: to race at Red Bull Racing. And I understand Sonoda's
- 12:25Speaker 1: first two seasons were a little bit sketchy. He was
- 12:28Speaker 1: obviously being very fast since he debuted in Formula one'
- 12:30Speaker 1: scored points on debut even but has been very rough
- 12:33Speaker 1: around the edges, inconsistent sometimes even not a great temperament.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Last year showed quite significant improvements. This year has been
- 12:40Speaker 1: almost flawless.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Ok.
- 12:41Speaker 1: There was that after the flag dive bomb on Daniel
- 12:44Speaker 1: Ricardo in Bahrain that was pretty intemperate, but that's the
- 12:47Speaker 1: last sort of outbursty moment that really should count against
- 12:51Speaker 1: him this year, and there's been maybe one or two
- 12:54Speaker 1: at most off races he's had this year. One was
- 12:57Speaker 1: in China, where he'd never raced before in Formula one,
- 12:59Speaker 1: and one was in Austria, I think where he just
- 13:01Speaker 1: wasn't really quiet on Daniel's level. There have been races
- 13:04Speaker 1: he's been beaten by Daniel, of course, but otherwise he's
- 13:06Speaker 1: been pretty close to the pace. I think it's ridiculous
- 13:08Speaker 1: as you say that there's just no sign that he's
- 13:10Speaker 1: being considered. I wonder if things get really grim, for example,
- 13:14Speaker 1: if they benchmark Lawson as you say, and I'm sure
- 13:16Speaker 1: Lawson's going to do a good job because he did
- 13:18Speaker 1: a good job last year, but if they think maybe, well,
- 13:20Speaker 1: not Red Bull Racing, and if they're still not sold
- 13:22Speaker 1: by Daniel, that they might say, well, we've already got
- 13:25Speaker 1: some note under contract. But it just doesn't seem like
- 13:27Speaker 1: it's going that way. Let's start with Sonoda first before
- 13:31Speaker 1: we talk about Let's say we're rather Lawson first before
- 13:34Speaker 1: we talk about Daniel, because this is a really interesting one.
- 13:38Speaker 1: He's been knocking on the door now for Formula one
- 13:40Speaker 1: since almost this time last year, when he substituted for
- 13:43Speaker 1: Daniel for five Grand Prix second alfter the year, did
- 13:46Speaker 1: really well, scored some points in Singapore. No that it's
- 13:48Speaker 1: one of the most difficult races there is in Formula One.
- 13:51Speaker 1: He's been promised to see as far as we know,
- 13:54Speaker 1: next year, or he's a free agent, which doesn't It
- 13:56Speaker 1: means it's not really a promise, is it, Because the
- 13:57Speaker 1: alternative is just they let him go, which is sort
- 13:59Speaker 1: of contracts will work. It seems like the right time, right,
- 14:03Speaker 1: there's clearly a seat by all indications, there's going to
- 14:06Speaker 1: be a seat one way or another, at a minimum
- 14:08Speaker 1: next year, if not earlier. Putting him to Red bull
- 14:10Speaker 1: racing though, seems like repeating every mistake Red Bulls driver
- 14:14Speaker 1: program has made. That's taken it to hiring Sergio Peris
- 14:18Speaker 1: and weirdly enough, offering him more contracts. It wasn't that
- 14:20Speaker 1: long ago that Daniel left and they put in Pierre
- 14:23Speaker 1: Gasley after one reasonably good season of Torosso okay season
- 14:26Speaker 1: at Torosso, and then they replaced him after six months.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Alban was put in after six months of Toroso. He
- 14:31Speaker 1: was replaced after nine months. Nick Devreese was put in
- 14:34Speaker 1: Alphatari after one good race if the Italian Grand Pro
- 14:37Speaker 1: the previous year replaced after ten rounds.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's champion as well. Let's not get too flipping Well.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, sure, okay, yes, to be fair as well while
- 14:46Speaker 1: we're here, and it's a world championship. While we're here,
- 14:49Speaker 1: it's worth pointing out as well, it's not just all
- 14:52Speaker 1: the I guess mystique around Red Bull and being Max
- 14:55Speaker 1: for Staffen's teammate. Obviously those pressures will weigh on him,
- 14:58Speaker 1: but the context is that Sergio Peeris will replaced because
- 15:01Speaker 1: Red Bull is at risk of losing the Constructors Championship.
- 15:03Speaker 1: So not only would you bringing Liam Lawson in effectively
- 15:06Speaker 1: a rookie to go up against Max Vestaff and add
- 15:09Speaker 1: one of the biggest teams in Formula One, but you're
- 15:11Speaker 1: also implicitly saying win us the constructors Championship, by the way,
- 15:16Speaker 1: and you'll be to do that, you're gonna have to
- 15:18Speaker 1: beat Lewis Hamilton and George Russelando, Noris Oskopiaspi, maybe the
- 15:21Speaker 1: Ferrari drivers too. That just seems like a big mistake
- 15:24Speaker 1: to me, which is why I actually think higher up
- 15:28Speaker 1: the list, despite his lukewarm results this year, should be
- 15:31Speaker 1: Daniel Ricardo.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I agree with you wholeheartedly on that, which is a
- 15:37Speaker 2: first Markenstein new calendar people, I'm boring, Yeah, I know, right.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Liam Lawson going to Red Bull is a huge ask.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Not because he can't drive the car. That's I think
- 15:50Speaker 2: the easiest part of the job. It's all the other
- 15:52Speaker 2: stuff that goes around it that is a distraction to
- 15:54Speaker 2: a new driver. A youngster coming in needs the opportunity
- 15:58Speaker 2: to focus, to learn, their to make mistakes. Liam is
- 16:02Speaker 2: a well credentialed, experienced driver, but he is still young
- 16:06Speaker 2: and he will make mistakes. Red Bull is not a
- 16:09Speaker 2: team that can afford mistakes at this point. When you
- 16:13Speaker 2: add in the media scrutiny that will be under having
- 16:16Speaker 2: replaced Sergio Perez mid season, all the marketing stuff that
- 16:20Speaker 2: Red Bull does as well, the intense schedule that you've
- 16:23Speaker 2: got towards the back half the year. It's a huge
- 16:26Speaker 2: it's a huge ask and I think, I honestly think
- 16:29Speaker 2: Redbel will be making a mistake. It's not that I
- 16:31Speaker 2: don't think Liam is capable. I think in time, giving
- 16:33Speaker 2: the right opportunity, he absolutely would be. But this is
- 16:37Speaker 2: the wrong opportunity, or at least the wrong scenario for
- 16:40Speaker 2: him to take that opportunity. What I think would make
- 16:43Speaker 2: more sense is, to your point, promote Daniel because it's
- 16:48Speaker 2: a little bit like Carlo Science and the driver market.
- 16:50Speaker 2: It's the least worst option in many respects, clearly the
- 16:56Speaker 2: correct and that was exactly where I was going, because
- 16:59Speaker 2: if they're not considering Sonota, if he's not being mentioned
- 17:02Speaker 2: in those conversations, there has to be a reason for that.
- 17:05Speaker 2: And it's clearly not his on track because he's delivering there.
- 17:09Speaker 2: So what is happening off track?
- 17:11Speaker 3: You know?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Is he a disruptive influence? Is he not communicative? Is
- 17:15Speaker 2: not that? There's something there. I don't know what it is,
- 17:18Speaker 2: but there's something there that's holding them back. Daniel of
- 17:24Speaker 2: course has operated at that level. Daniel knows the team,
- 17:28Speaker 2: he knows how to work under pressure. And also we
- 17:32Speaker 2: saw it at the tire test. And this is something
- 17:33Speaker 2: that I actually spoke to to my hewitoris w Rerecor
- 17:37Speaker 2: Andrew van Lewin about today. He's a racing driver in
- 17:39Speaker 2: his own own right, although midily a Formula forward level.
- 17:41Speaker 2: But I've got a theory on Daniel in that in
- 17:45Speaker 2: a reasonably well soorted car with good engineering support, that
- 17:50Speaker 2: can put that car in a narrow operating window for Daniel,
- 17:53Speaker 2: because I think he's got a narrow operating window as
- 17:55Speaker 2: a driver. If you can get the car in that
- 17:57Speaker 2: sweet spot, he can be brilliant. But if the car
- 17:59Speaker 2: is not in that sweet spot, which if you go
- 18:03Speaker 2: to a lesser team, the car has a narrower operating window,
- 18:06Speaker 2: and if you don't have the engineering support getting into
- 18:08Speaker 2: that operating window and more the point, Daniel's zone in
- 18:11Speaker 2: that operating window is more difficult and is more hit
- 18:14Speaker 2: and miss, which I think what we've seen over the
- 18:16Speaker 2: years that Reno McLaren and now be to an extent
- 18:19Speaker 2: because the days he's good, he's very good, he's world class,
- 18:22Speaker 2: as he always was. But the days he's bad, he's
- 18:24Speaker 2: seemingly nowhere, and without explanation for that, I think that's
- 18:27Speaker 2: the result of engineering and car set up, not necessarily
- 18:31Speaker 2: a reflection of a reflection of Daniels talent, because that
- 18:33Speaker 2: sort of stuff doesn't go away overnight. We saw that
- 18:35Speaker 2: in Miami and Austria. So I think put Daniel back
- 18:38Speaker 2: into a red bull environment where you've got a well
- 18:40Speaker 2: sorted car and some world class engineering support, and I
- 18:44Speaker 2: actually think you'll flourish. I really do. It's a big call,
- 18:48Speaker 2: and I don't have anything to justify that belief with
- 18:51Speaker 2: other than he's done it before, but that was arguably
- 18:55Speaker 2: a different Daniel. So it's interesting either way. No matter
- 18:59Speaker 2: what Ball does at this point, it's a gamble holding
- 19:02Speaker 2: on to Sergio. Well, you might be throwing away the
- 19:05Speaker 2: constructors or a championship putting a rookie in. You might
- 19:07Speaker 2: be doing the same thing bringing Daniel back, or you
- 19:09Speaker 2: might be doing the same thing. So what of those
- 19:13Speaker 2: three gives you the surest bet. I think Sergio has
- 19:20Speaker 2: two races to save his career. Conversely, I think Daniel's
- 19:26Speaker 2: got two races to save his career. And the reason
- 19:29Speaker 2: I say that is if Sergio isn't replaced by Daniel,
- 19:34Speaker 2: Daniel will be replaced by Liam and then it's a
- 19:38Speaker 2: ten race shootout between Liam and Yuki for the Red
- 19:41Speaker 2: Bull Drive for twenty twenty five and Isaac Hadja comes
- 19:46Speaker 2: into the sea to RB.
- 19:48Speaker 1: It's insane, isn't it That there's like the fifty to
- 19:51Speaker 1: fifty call with Daniel is that it either goes to
- 19:53Speaker 1: the reigning championship winning team or loses his Formula One drive. Yeah, Like,
- 19:57Speaker 1: what a bizarre context for the next two races. It
- 20:01Speaker 1: is really interesting. Just before you move on, you sort
- 20:04Speaker 1: of said, there, it's something I've been thinking about the
- 20:05Speaker 1: last day or so. Is that idea that Daniel might
- 20:09Speaker 1: do better at Red Bull Racing. It's something that he's
- 20:13Speaker 1: said several times that he said his late stage McLaren
- 20:17Speaker 1: career was only a couple of years ago, and increasingly
- 20:19Speaker 1: as well since, has been this idea that if he
- 20:23Speaker 1: has a winning car, he will win in it. He
- 20:25Speaker 1: doesn't miss when the car is competitive, and I personally
- 20:29Speaker 1: always thought I always viewed comments like that as being
- 20:31Speaker 1: a bit well, of course you will, like that's every
- 20:34Speaker 1: Formula One driver. If you have a car that's capable
- 20:36Speaker 1: of winning, you will probably win races. I mean, Sergio Peis,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I guess, is disproving that theory a little bit. But
- 20:42Speaker 1: you know, it's self evident and we know Ricardo is
- 20:45Speaker 1: a good enough driver that he can do that. But then,
- 20:47Speaker 1: thinking back, if you think even of his McLaren tenure
- 20:50Speaker 1: in those two years when he was on the whole
- 20:53Speaker 1: not very good, I think that's probably putting it politely.
- 20:57Speaker 1: The one weekend the car was capable of winning one
- 21:00Speaker 1: and then even the next weekend in Russia when Landon
- 21:03Speaker 1: Norris almost won. He had what was excluding that Italian
- 21:06Speaker 1: Grand Prix, the weekend in which he won his best
- 21:08Speaker 1: result of the year, which was fourth, and he was
- 21:10Speaker 1: competitive in qualifying as well. At our b last year,
- 21:13Speaker 1: the best result the team got was his result in
- 21:15Speaker 1: Mexico this weekend. The best qualifying of any session was Miami,
- 21:19Speaker 1: qualifying fourth. The best Grand Prix qualifying was Canada fifth,
- 21:22Speaker 1: and he probably could have finished closer to fifth had
- 21:24Speaker 1: he not had that penalty for the clutch problem out
- 21:26Speaker 1: off the line. There is something in what he says,
- 21:30Speaker 1: as skeptical as I am about the way he keep
- 21:32Speaker 1: saying it, that actually, and I think you've actually summed
- 21:34Speaker 1: it up well, it is that narrow operating window when
- 21:36Speaker 1: things click, that's when we see that old Daniel in there.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And if you are red Bull as skeptical as it
- 21:44Speaker 1: does seem, they have been of his performances, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 1: comments a couple of weeks ago by both Peter by
- 21:48Speaker 1: the RBCO and Christian Horner sort of suggested, oh okay,
- 21:51Speaker 1: like he hasn't shown enough and he needs to show
- 21:53Speaker 1: a bit more. And I think that's fair but if
- 21:55Speaker 1: you're Red Bull you've seen a couple of good performance,
- 21:58Speaker 1: you must be it must be tantalized just to get
- 22:00Speaker 1: the final answer to put him in that car and
- 22:03Speaker 1: go all right, we might either way we will lose
- 22:05Speaker 1: the constructors seamleship. If Peris does it keeps underperforming or
- 22:08Speaker 1: you're not good like, we're done. Either way, we may
- 22:10Speaker 1: as well give it a go. So even like I'm
- 22:13Speaker 1: just curious putting the patriotism aside, I'm curious too, like
- 22:17Speaker 1: I want to know what will happen. But it'll be
- 22:20Speaker 1: really interesting. I think the most elegant solutions. He goes
- 22:22Speaker 1: to Red Bull, and then Lawson gets ten races that
- 22:24Speaker 1: are b and then we decide at the end of
- 22:25Speaker 1: the year. Unfortunate for Sergio, but we will wait and see.
- 22:28Speaker 1: There's a lot riding on the next two races, which
- 22:30Speaker 1: we'll talk about in next week's podcast. Let's move on now,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I Matt though, by moving backwards in fact to the
- 22:37Speaker 1: British Grand Prix, the halfway point of the season, round
- 22:40Speaker 1: twelve of twenty four. My goodness, twelve race is still
- 22:42Speaker 1: to go, but Formula One seems to be getting better
- 22:45Speaker 1: and better this year. The British Grand Prix perhaps the
- 22:48Speaker 1: best trace of the season so far, certainly the most interesting,
- 22:52Speaker 1: I think, because we had three teams in victory contention,
- 22:55Speaker 1: had a bit of mixed weather, classic English summer vibes,
- 22:58Speaker 1: and it was Lewis Hamilton who now Lis Hamilton, winning
- 23:01Speaker 1: in Mercedes at the British Grand Prix. For many years
- 23:03Speaker 1: it sounded quite boring, but this one was very different.
- 23:06Speaker 1: In nearly a thousand days it's been since he last
- 23:08Speaker 1: won a race, dating back to Saudi Arabia twenty twenty one,
- 23:12Speaker 1: that Cursed Grand Prix. It was, of course one hundred
- 23:15Speaker 1: and fourth victory, he's record breaking ninth at one circuit,
- 23:18Speaker 1: that being Silverstone. More interestingly, perhaps other than that really
- 23:22Speaker 1: feel good story, was that Mercedes was genuinely very competitive
- 23:28Speaker 1: but one of the most testing circuits in Formula One.
- 23:31Speaker 1: So Matt is Mercedes back.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Now it's a big statement, isn't It's a big question,
- 23:40Speaker 2: But you'd have to say, on balance it probably is
- 23:43Speaker 2: because this sort of stems back to Monica, where it
- 23:47Speaker 2: introduced a new front wing that did something magical to
- 23:50Speaker 2: that car, and unless you've got your bum in it,
- 23:53Speaker 2: you're never going to know exactly what it's done, but
- 23:55Speaker 2: it's brought that car alive and ever since George Russell
- 23:59Speaker 2: has as delivered Wonders and Lewis Hampton to a lesser
- 24:03Speaker 2: extent up until Silverston, it must be said, but whatever
- 24:07Speaker 2: Lewis Hamilton drinks the night before he goes to Silictin
- 24:12Speaker 2: over the years, it's against some drivers who just lived
- 24:16Speaker 2: at an event, and for Lewis that's a British grand prince,
- 24:18Speaker 2: a little bit like Nigel Manson was back in the days,
- 24:20Speaker 2: and it was just extraordinary, absolutely extraordinary what he's done
- 24:23Speaker 2: around that place over the years. But yeah, so we're
- 24:26Speaker 2: now what six or seven races in after Monaco and
- 24:31Speaker 2: Mercedes has been there or thereabouts. Take Canada out, you
- 24:34Speaker 2: know that he probably could and should have done better there.
- 24:37Speaker 2: But it won in Austria. Okay, it wasn't quite in
- 24:41Speaker 2: the lead battle, but it still had to be in
- 24:43Speaker 2: position to win that race. It beat Ferrari. Ferrari is
- 24:47Speaker 2: statistically the second best team in Formula One still at
- 24:50Speaker 2: the moment, only just but still so yeah, I think
- 24:55Speaker 2: we've got to say that we don't just have Ferrari
- 24:59Speaker 2: and Rebel or McLaren. Rebell We've got Red Bull, Ferrari,
- 25:06Speaker 2: McLaren and Mercedes. There's four teams on any given weekend
- 25:09Speaker 2: that can win. Now that the conditions in Silverson suited
- 25:13Speaker 2: the Mercedes, you know, the cooler conditions that tends to
- 25:16Speaker 2: light that lewis in that sort of almost wet, not quite.
- 25:19Speaker 2: He is absolutely supreme in those conditions. And the reason
- 25:23Speaker 2: he's one World seven World champions Ships was perfectly laid
- 25:28Speaker 2: bare for us. The guy as a superstar and he
- 25:33Speaker 2: he drove the wheels off the thing to win that race.
- 25:36Speaker 2: He didn't inherit it, he didn't play strategy or whatever.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He just drove a bloody good race throughout. Crucially, Mercedes
- 25:44Speaker 2: didn't make mistakes either, and that car was stronger than
- 25:49Speaker 2: the Rebel. I don't think it was as strong as
- 25:50Speaker 2: the McLaren, but it was stronger than the Red Bull.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Not the first time there was Selmplans won a race
- 25:56Speaker 1: by driving the wheels off a car. At least this
- 25:59Speaker 1: time wasn't. Laterally, he alluded there to Mercedes having a
- 26:02Speaker 1: pretty flawless performance and that backing up Lewis Hamilton's excellent
- 26:05Speaker 1: drive that compares fairly poorly or compares well compares pauly
- 26:09Speaker 1: for McLaren, who did have probably the fastest car on balance,
- 26:13Speaker 1: certainly at various points in this race it was the
- 26:15Speaker 1: fastest car, but made several mistakes that counted the team
- 26:19Speaker 1: as in its entirety, out of victory contention. First with
- 26:22Speaker 1: Oscar Piastri, who's fast becoming I think the unluckiest man
- 26:25Speaker 1: in Formula One. At the first pit stops he was
- 26:28Speaker 1: left out a lap too late, lost pretty much a
- 26:29Speaker 1: whole pit stops wort of time in one lap. Then
- 26:32Speaker 1: with Lando Norris by leaving him out too late, having
- 26:35Speaker 1: the wrong tie on his car, and then he also
- 26:37Speaker 1: made a mistake entering his pit box, cost himself probably
- 26:39Speaker 1: the crucial two and a half seconds that he rejoined
- 26:42Speaker 1: the track behind Lewis Hamilton. This is now becoming a
- 26:46Speaker 1: little bit of a trend, and this might be something
- 26:48Speaker 1: we expand on next week, in fact, because I think
- 26:50Speaker 1: it's a bigger topic than we can sum up in
- 26:52Speaker 1: the last few minutes of this podcast. But it's been
- 26:55Speaker 1: several races now where you can count. Atlanta Norris has
- 26:57Speaker 1: been very open about this that McLaren had the folds
- 27:00Speaker 1: and resources to win and did not. This just seems
- 27:04Speaker 1: like growing pains, I suppose. Dozen it's been a long
- 27:06Speaker 1: time since McLaren's been a front running car. This year,
- 27:08Speaker 1: it isn't just occasionally good like it was last year.
- 27:11Speaker 1: It is good at every track. It's capable of winning
- 27:13Speaker 1: at every circuit, but it's also tripping up at most
- 27:16Speaker 1: of those circuits.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, growing pains is a really good description, I think
- 27:20Speaker 2: because McLaren is a team that has won hundreds or
- 27:24Speaker 2: over one hundred races of World Championships in the past,
- 27:27Speaker 2: but they are for the most part, a generation or
- 27:29Speaker 2: so ago. We're going we're talking ten to fifteen years
- 27:31Speaker 2: ago that they've been a proper force. So they're doing
- 27:34Speaker 2: it having to do some learning, and when you're operating
- 27:37Speaker 2: against the best in the business, a small mistake is magnified,
- 27:41Speaker 2: particularly when it's as close as it is this year.
- 27:43Speaker 2: It's not like Red Bull last year, where you could
- 27:45Speaker 2: make a little mistake it wouldn't matter because you had
- 27:47Speaker 2: forty second lead. Now, if you make a small operational error,
- 27:51Speaker 2: you're going to lose a place or two or more.
- 27:54Speaker 2: McLaren made a few of those over the weekend. The
- 27:59Speaker 2: strategic call with leaving Oscar out for an extra lap.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I don't understand that one at all. It was clearly
- 28:06Speaker 2: deteriorating quickly in terms of the conditions. You bring him in,
- 28:09Speaker 2: you stack him, you lose two seconds. You know, he
- 28:11Speaker 2: could have even backed it up and mitigated that a
- 28:13Speaker 2: little bit. He was always going to lose no matter
- 28:15Speaker 2: what McLaren did at that point, he was going to lose.
- 28:19Speaker 2: So it's that favorite saying for this part. It's the
- 28:21Speaker 2: least worst option. You box him, you stack him in
- 28:24Speaker 2: there and if you know, if you do a really
- 28:26Speaker 2: slick pit stuff with Oscar, and chances are you going
- 28:30Speaker 2: to get him out almost uninhibited, a bit like Mercedes
- 28:32Speaker 2: did with Lewis and Vowtrie or was that back in
- 28:36Speaker 2: China a few years ago? But then the Lando thing,
- 28:41Speaker 2: that's just a lack of confidence, isn't it, Because that
- 28:44Speaker 2: was a decision I understand that was driven by Lando,
- 28:48Speaker 2: the guy who's in the seat, who sees each corner
- 28:51Speaker 2: once every ninety seconds or so, and has nothing but
- 28:55Speaker 2: the little periscope that he's looking out at the front
- 28:58Speaker 2: of his car on the pitwall. They see the entire track,
- 29:00Speaker 2: they see the way they're coming in, they see what
- 29:02Speaker 2: everyone else is doing. They've got vastly more information. They
- 29:06Speaker 2: are so much more informed. You know why even offer
- 29:11Speaker 2: him the solution Toto Wolf, I think it was a
- 29:15Speaker 2: Christian Horner said, you know, they had the perfect tire
- 29:18Speaker 2: there for the conditions. The soft you couldn't push. The
- 29:21Speaker 2: hard was probably a little bit too hard. But you know,
- 29:25Speaker 2: given that he needed to push to stay ahead or
- 29:28Speaker 2: probably pass Lewis, because I think even without sliding along
- 29:31Speaker 2: he was going to he's probably going to fall behind Lewis.
- 29:37Speaker 2: But with those new medium tires, he and Oscar were
- 29:40Speaker 2: the only drivers at the front of the race that
- 29:41Speaker 2: had that option, and Oscar showed, you know, he was
- 29:45Speaker 2: two seconds of lap faster than people. It's at various
- 29:49Speaker 2: points right up until Color of Science, when put the
- 29:51Speaker 2: softs on in the last lap or two to get
- 29:53Speaker 2: fastest lap, you know, Oscar was flying. It's a massive,
- 29:58Speaker 2: massive own goal in my opinion for McLaren and just
- 30:02Speaker 2: another sign that they're very close, but they're not yet.
- 30:07Speaker 2: There is as a championship force, if that makes sense.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Seems like it's mostly communication because you can draw a
- 30:14Speaker 1: line between the Canadian Grand Prix and this where they
- 30:17Speaker 1: just weren't communicating efficiently enough for him to pit in
- 30:20Speaker 1: that few seconds he had as he passed pit exit
- 30:22Speaker 1: as the safety card was called out, and that lost
- 30:24Speaker 1: him the Canadian Grand Prix. It was Alex Brundle, I think,
- 30:28Speaker 1: on Twitter, who compared the radio communications between Max with
- 30:31Speaker 1: staff and Lando Norris at the British Grand Prix, and
- 30:34Speaker 1: he suggested that at no point did Red Bull ever
- 30:36Speaker 1: ask Max what tire he wanted, because they were already
- 30:38Speaker 1: on the same page from either the pre race briefing
- 30:42Speaker 1: or because well, in actual fact, he only had a
- 30:44Speaker 1: new hard left, so I guess there weren't really any options,
- 30:46Speaker 1: but there was too much talk about which tie to
- 30:49Speaker 1: go on. Of course, you do want the driver to
- 30:50Speaker 1: be able to contradict the team occasionally or at least
- 30:53Speaker 1: give the opinion, but you should really be generally telling
- 30:57Speaker 1: him what the team's opinion is first and that's the default,
- 31:00Speaker 1: and then if he has a very strong opinion that
- 31:02Speaker 1: can be voiced in the same way I think Charloteclair did.
- 31:04Speaker 1: Actually at the first pit stops, although his opinion was wrong,
- 31:07Speaker 1: he pitted way too early for intermediates and that killed
- 31:09Speaker 1: his race as well. When he was running in the
- 31:10Speaker 1: points so definitely work to be done there. For McLaren,
- 31:14Speaker 1: we might dive a little bit into particularly Oscar Piastre
- 31:17Speaker 1: season so far in next week's podcast and how he
- 31:20Speaker 1: could have already had that long awaited first Grom free
- 31:23Speaker 1: victory by now had luck been a little bit more
- 31:25Speaker 1: on his side, because I think it's underrated how good
- 31:27Speaker 1: his season has been with the only one or two
- 31:30Speaker 1: exceptions tops. But that is a story for next week, Matt.
- 31:34Speaker 1: This is well nearly the end of the podcast because
- 31:36Speaker 1: we've got one new, final new segment and they are
- 31:38Speaker 1: our driver ratings or ratings, let's just call them the ratings.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I'll let you kick this one off because while it's
- 31:44Speaker 1: been very big a couple of weeks and a very
- 31:46Speaker 1: big British Grand prein, and I'm interested to hear who
- 31:47Speaker 1: you've been rating or not.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Yeah, So these are completely arbitrary, basically on our own
- 31:56Speaker 2: opinion of the weekend. They don't necessarily reflect the finishing
- 31:59Speaker 2: order or whatever. But essentially we picked three people and
- 32:07Speaker 2: award them a number of points. So I'll kick it off.
- 32:12Speaker 2: What do we alternate this and make it interesting. My
- 32:14Speaker 2: first name is Lewis Hamilton, and I've given him nine
- 32:16Speaker 2: points because nine is a number of British Grand Prixs.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Now one that's nice. I like that.
- 32:22Speaker 1: My first selection is the organizers collectively of the British
- 32:26Speaker 1: Grand Prix. I'm giving them negative one hundred and sixty
- 32:28Speaker 1: eight thousand points because the race was apparently sold out
- 32:32Speaker 1: despite tickets being available and being exorbitantly priced. I think
- 32:38Speaker 1: five times the cost of a ticket to Australian Grand
- 32:40Speaker 1: Prix and no very different events. To be fair, Australian
- 32:42Speaker 1: Grand Prix backed by the state governments. Silveston's totally private enterprise.
- 32:46Speaker 1: But you know, if you can't sell out a race
- 32:48Speaker 1: in formula on these days, I don't believe I'm saying
- 32:50Speaker 1: that this year these days, well then I think you
- 32:52Speaker 1: might need to look at your prices.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair. I like that. One hundred and six years.
- 32:56Speaker 2: That's going to tell you what they're gonna need a
- 32:58Speaker 2: big second half of the year. Make that.
- 33:01Speaker 3: At risk of being replaced halfway through the season.
- 33:05Speaker 2: But he tried that once, didn't he. So the second
- 33:09Speaker 2: name I feel might have been far too sensible here.
- 33:11Speaker 2: The second name I've got is is Nico Holkenberg, and
- 33:15Speaker 2: I've given him plus sixteen because that's a number of
- 33:17Speaker 2: points that he's scored in the time that it has
- 33:20Speaker 2: taken ser Jo Perez to score fifteen.
- 33:23Speaker 1: That's pretty good. I think that's very topical as well.
- 33:25Speaker 1: I'm actually dating this next choice back a week because
- 33:28Speaker 1: we've been off the podcast for a few weeks, so
- 33:30Speaker 1: dating back to the Austrian Grand Prix, and I'm giving
- 33:33Speaker 1: negative ten points. I think all mine a negative Actually
- 33:36Speaker 1: that's isn't it? Negative ten points to the f one
- 33:39Speaker 1: graphics department who were based in the UK but misspelled
- 33:42Speaker 1: Great Britain on the big graphics that appear behind the
- 33:44Speaker 1: drivers in the post race interviews when they were highlighting
- 33:47Speaker 1: the next race. I'm still waiting for the Great Brittaian
- 33:50Speaker 1: Grand Prix.
- 33:53Speaker 2: So how many points were you penalizing them for.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Just negative ten because a type I've made the same hypo,
- 33:58Speaker 1: so I don't want to visit you.
- 34:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, let's yeah, let's not talk about typeos. We've
- 34:05Speaker 2: all made them. We're all very sorry and we will
- 34:09Speaker 2: never live it down on social media again. Mine feels
- 34:15Speaker 2: a little bit sensible. Now, I'll turn you the score first.
- 34:21Speaker 2: It's minus forty three, okay, and it goes to McLaren's strategists,
- 34:26Speaker 2: because that's the value of a one to two finish.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Good because I.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Mean you're not including the point for fastest lap I
- 34:32Speaker 1: s ofpose, So that's all right, that is.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Very no, We're going to change it forty four minus
- 34:38Speaker 2: forty four for McLaren's strategists.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Very good. I like that.
- 34:41Speaker 1: I'm going to take twenty five points off to Sonny Hayes,
- 34:46Speaker 1: the fictional character played by Brad Pitt in the upcoming
- 34:48Speaker 1: F one film entitled F one but not Knowing how
- 34:51Speaker 1: building a racing car works. Based on the one line
- 34:54Speaker 1: of dialogue we've heard him speak so far, I wasn't impressed.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I hope he lifts from here. May be risk of
- 35:01Speaker 1: being asked in the second half of the season.
- 35:02Speaker 2: They they brought him back, didn't they?
- 35:04Speaker 3: He has.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Yes, And in fact I've only just discovered this, so
- 35:09Speaker 1: people may be already onto this. But apex GP, which
- 35:12Speaker 1: is the fictional racing team, has a Twitter account and
- 35:15Speaker 1: at the end of last year it sacks Nick Devrees.
- 35:19Speaker 3: So I left four. Nick's been sacked.
- 35:22Speaker 1: In real life and in the fictional F one world,
- 35:25Speaker 1: so I don't know.
- 35:27Speaker 2: What's going on. It's worth going and finding it on
- 35:30Speaker 2: Twitter and having a read of some of the responses
- 35:32Speaker 2: to it because people actually getting really into it. It's
- 35:35Speaker 2: it's quicker. I'm looking forward to the side pot updates.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Apparently they've got coming worked well in Silverston. Yeah, I've
- 35:44Speaker 2: got a feeling that this isn't the only time that
- 35:47Speaker 2: Sonny Hayes is going to feature in this ranking system.
- 35:51Speaker 2: I'm on board with this. I think this is going
- 35:52Speaker 2: to work well.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I'm looking for APEXGP signing Carls signed as well at
- 35:57Speaker 1: the end of the bring you that update as it happens,
- 36:00Speaker 1: because that's all the time we have for pit Talk,
- 36:01Speaker 1: or as we're calling it, the least Worse Option this week.
- 36:05Speaker 1: We'll be back next week though, to preview the critical
- 36:07Speaker 1: final double header before the mid season break, starting with
