Transcript
- 0:00BRIAN DERRICK: I'm Brian Derrick.
- 0:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I'm Glennis Meagher.
- 0:02BRIAN DERRICK: This week on Vibes Only, it's the last day of the quarter and the final major fundraising deadline of 2026.
- 0:08BRIAN DERRICK: So we're talking about where your money matters and why it's not in US Senate races.
- 0:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Then we get into everything that's broken from Trump's taxpayer-funded campaign ads to Meta dodging billions to hackers stealing data on every FBI employee.
- 0:25BRIAN DERRICK: Plus, Ken Paxton admits Trump's convention actually hurt him.
- 0:29BRIAN DERRICK: Eric Schmitt fumbles his Jack Smith gotcha moment, and why John Fetterman is a problem for the party.
- 0:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's get into it.
- 0:38BRIAN DERRICK: Let's get into it.
- 0:45BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, "Lol, New York Times 14 minutes ago.
- 0:47BRIAN DERRICK: Paxton said that-" I saw "… President Trump's midterm convention hurt his-" Hurt him "… second campaign." That is so funny.
- 1:00BRIAN DERRICK: Good morning, Glennis.
- 1:01BRIAN DERRICK: Happy last day of the quarter.
- 1:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Good morning.
- 1:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Brian, did you read the news this morning?
- 1:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was drinking my coffee this morning, and it was like, "US officially pulls out of Iraq."
- 1:16BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, I did see that.
- 1:17BRIAN DERRICK: But, like-
- 1:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: News to me that we were still there 24 years later.
- 1:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, what?
- 1:23BRIAN DERRICK: We're everywhere, baby.
- 1:24BRIAN DERRICK: We have we're, we're deployed everywhere, especially- Iran.
- 1:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Also, I was listening to the news this morning and, like, the leadership at OpenAI was warned two months ago about security concerns, et cetera, and did nothing.
- 1:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then some other headlines.
- 1:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's just like, well, duh.
- 1:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, duh.
- 1:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Nothing's shocking to me.
- 1:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's just we live in this cycle of, well, duh, everything is broken and corrupt.
- 1:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anyway, the, the quarter, the deadline, this is important.
- 1:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Tell people why.
- 1:55BRIAN DERRICK: Great note to start the day on, everyone.
- 1:57BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 1:58BRIAN DERRICK: We're all fucked.
- 2:00BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 2:01BRIAN DERRICK: But there's actually tons of really good news coming our way as we see the blue wave on the horizon.
- 2:08BRIAN DERRICK: Let's talk about it and all the nonsense that Republicans are doing to try to prevent that from happening.
- 2:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, let's talk about it.
- 2:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Brian, I saw your story on, on the Instagram, the Meta app Instagram yesterday, talking about the fundraising deadline.
- 2:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Can you give the too long, didn't read on why this is important and why it is indicative of what we might see in November?
- 2:29BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 2:30BRIAN DERRICK: While we are recording, we are pre-deadline.
- 2:33BRIAN DERRICK: While you are listening, we are post-deadline.
- 2:36BRIAN DERRICK: So this is the last major fundraising deadline of the year nationally, and it's a really big deal because it will be the final deciding factor in what races are ultimately deemed competitive pre-election day and which are not.
- 2:53BRIAN DERRICK: So having a surge in fundraising late can be exactly what people need to see in order to believe that you have a path to win and put more money into the race.
- 3:04BRIAN DERRICK: The DSCC, the DCCC, the DNC, broke but still, and big donors as well all are looking at these numbers as signals of where we need to put additional resources in order to maximize wins in November.
- 3:19BRIAN DERRICK: So this is our last chance to sort of change what the playing field looks like materially in order to incentivize the right kinds of investment for the month of October, which is the biggest month of s- political spending of the whole cycle.
- 3:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 3:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: And you also posted a story which I think was quite helpful.
- 3:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: It was kind of a cheat sheet for various states with candidates that are in certain House races or state races who need an extra bump or could use an extra bump in terms of fundraising.
- 3:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Where can people find that?
- 3:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Just on your Instagram?
- 3:51BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 3:51BRIAN DERRICK: Hit up my IG for that.
- 3:53BRIAN DERRICK: I stole your terminology with the- My cheat sheet cheat sheet.
- 3:57BRIAN DERRICK: Glenn is famous- Listen … for her cheat sheets.
- 3:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: I am.
- 4:00BRIAN DERRICK: It works and people know what it is.
- 4:01BRIAN DERRICK: Yep.
- 4:01BRIAN DERRICK: I just wanted to c- create a very simple directory for people to understand what races they should be focused on in their state.
- 4:11BRIAN DERRICK: And if you look at the whole list, you'll notice some patterns that- I'm not telling people to go focus on US Senate races.
- 4:18BRIAN DERRICK: That that is not actually where help is needed at this point.
- 4:20BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 4:20BRIAN DERRICK: And I always get such angry comments that make me laugh of like, "You're missing this race," or like,"Why don't you know about this?" And I'm like, "Nope, I do know about that, and it's not missing.
- 4:30BRIAN DERRICK: It is intentionally omitted- Yeah … because the races that you actually should be helping are right here listed for you." And of course, you could go on and on and on, but nobody has the time, energy, or money to do all of them, so we have to be selective.
- 4:45BRIAN DERRICK: That's literally the whole point- Yeah … of, of doing an exercise like this.
- 4:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, and there are many, many people focused on the Senate races, that people are in your DM saying that you're not focusing on.
- 4:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 4:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Myself included.
- 4:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, there- Right … there are plenty of resources at the Senate level for these states, but it is… Like, we've talked about this so much on the podcast, the importance of having your state government be Democratic and not Republican.
- 5:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: We- Right … we've seen what's happened.
- 5:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: So yeah, people should check that out.
- 5:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Go online.
- 5:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're everywhere.
- 5:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's-- We're, we're literally everywhere, and I'm gonna also be literally everywhere over the next, I don't know, 30 days.
- 5:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: I can't do math, but until November 3rd.
- 5:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: So if you wanna see some reporting from the states, follow me.
- 5:28BRIAN DERRICK: Where are you going?
- 5:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: Where am I going?
- 5:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm going to Iowa.
- 5:32BRIAN DERRICK: Oh.
- 5:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm going to Ohio.
- 5:35BRIAN DERRICK: Hey.
- 5:36BRIAN DERRICK: Where?
- 5:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 5:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Columbus.
- 5:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Georgia.
- 5:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Michigan, Texas.
- 5:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: So we're, we're hitting the big- Okay … the big Senate races there.
- 5:46BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 5:47BRIAN DERRICK: And it really shows that we are competitive everywhere, man.
- 5:51BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 5:51BRIAN DERRICK: There are competitive races going on everywhere.
- 5:54BRIAN DERRICK: You just have to selectively pick the right ones.
- 5:57BRIAN DERRICK: We had new polling come out this week.
- 5:59BRIAN DERRICK: There's always new polling, but more polling that showed Democrats up in the generic by 11, which is just so crazy.
- 6:08BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not trusting that on its face, but directionally, we're averaging more than eight on the generic, which is a really good place for us to be at this point.
- 6:19BRIAN DERRICK: It is making Democrats a little bit crazy, where people just now think that everything's in play and they wanna invest in these, like, super red Trump plus 30 places, uh, which I'm down for, but not until we have funded the Trump plus 20 and the Trump plus 10 at the down ballot level.
- 6:39BRIAN DERRICK: Like, you shouldn't be spending- Right … on a Trump plus 30 Senate seat when you have a Trump plus 6 that it- we're gonna lose at the state legs level because they're being outraised three to one.
- 6:50BRIAN DERRICK: Like, that doesn't make any sense.
- 6:51BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 6:52BRIAN DERRICK: So that's
- 6:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: the issue.
- 6:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: And for those who don't know, a generic ballot is like if you were to vote for a Dem or Republican right now, who would you vote for?
- 6:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 6:59BRIAN DERRICK: They don't tell you any names.
- 7:00BRIAN DERRICK: They just ask you party.
- 7:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: They don't tell you names.
- 7:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Just, it's… That's actually, like, the vibes poll.
- 7:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, are you vibing more- It is … with a Dem or a Republican?
- 7:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: And two things I wanna touch on from that, which is also, you brought this up before we started recording, Ken Paxton, you know, the, the polls themselves are doing whatever, but then Ken Paxton, the most corrupt, potentially the most corrupt behind Donald Trump candidate to ever live, impeached by his own party, the list goes on and on, said, "You know what, Donald Trump?
- 7:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: You at the, the Dallas Republican Convention, you actually hurt me.
- 7:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, the, the, your brand hurt me." It's, it li- literally is comical.
- 7:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is comical.
- 7:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then, Brian, I wanna bring up, which I feel like everyone should be burning trash, like everyone should be so pissed about this, but the Donald Trump ads, the MAGA Republican ads that then the disclosure is paid by the federal government, your taxpayer dollars.
- 7:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: You are b- you are marketing Donald Trump, whether or not you know it or not.
- 7:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's
- 7:59BRIAN DERRICK: crazy.
- 7:59BRIAN DERRICK: Let's talk about it.
- 8:00BRIAN DERRICK: It's so bananas, and it's very obviously illegal on its face.
- 8:07BRIAN DERRICK: But what's happening is they're using money from the Department of Homeland Security because, as we've talked about for over a year, they cut a blank check to DHS for this ICE and CBP, Customs and Border Patrol, money in, in, like, the hundreds of billions of dollars over the next decade, whatever it was, and they've just used it as a slush fund to do whatever they want, um, because it was, like, multiples of the agency's actual annual budget or anything remotely close to what was needed.
- 8:42BRIAN DERRICK: And now they just do whatever they want with that money and pay people off, um, like, very much like this.
- 8:48BRIAN DERRICK: So now they're spending-- They've thus far spent $2.5 million on ads promoting Donald Trump and Republicans ahead of the midterms.
- 8:59BRIAN DERRICK: It's against the Hatch Act, which is what separates, like, campaigns from the official side.
- 9:06BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 9:06BRIAN DERRICK: And it's also a violation of another federal statute that I couldn't tell you the name of that bars any federal funds anywhere in the government from pr- promoting or glorifying an individual.
- 9:19BRIAN DERRICK: People might have seen, there was like a semi-viral clip from a constitutional lawyer breaking down why it was illegal.
- 9:26BRIAN DERRICK: But it's just plainly, blatantly illegal, and they have 20 million more dollars worth of advertising that they're planning to do.
- 9:35BRIAN DERRICK: They said they are, quote,"just getting started."
- 9:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 9:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: You look at your paycheck, and you see that money come out to the federal government.
- 9:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's going to pay for Donald Trump ads indirectly, but it's… I just feel like more Americans should, should be, like, up in arms about this.
- 9:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 9:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: And they're not.
- 9:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: But we will keep on keeping on for the next 30 something days until November 3rd.
- 10:00BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, and they're saying that they're not campaign ads, but they're actually frame for frame the same as 2024 campaign ads that
- 10:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Donald Trump
- 10:09BRIAN DERRICK: ran.
- 10:09BRIAN DERRICK: No, literally.
- 10:09BRIAN DERRICK: They're, like, identical to actual campaign ads that they were running pre-election.
- 10:14BRIAN DERRICK: So it's, uh, it's just kind of farcical.
- 10:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's farcical.
- 10:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 10:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is that a
- 10:20BRIAN DERRICK: real, is that a real word?
- 10:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is now.
- 10:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is now.
- 10:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Uh- No, I think it is … he also is, like, saying,"Pretend I'm on the ballot.
- 10:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Pretend you're voting for me." Oh, we are.
- 10:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: Pretend I- Oh.
- 10:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 10:31BRIAN DERRICK: We are.
- 10:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, we're marrying you.
- 10:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: And all these Republicans now who are like, "Actually, the, the war in Iran is bad." I know.
- 10:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: I said, "Well, you actually voted, Ashley Hinson, seven times for it." It's very- So-
- 10:44BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, if it, if it weren't sad, it would be funny.
- 10:46BRIAN DERRICK: I guess it's still a little funny 'cause I don't know what to do but laugh.
- 10:49BRIAN DERRICK: But, um, yeah, you have Republicans in deep red seats that are coming out like, "Eh, maybe, maybe Trump wasn't right on this thing over here. Maybe ICE went too far.
- 10:57BRIAN DERRICK: Maybe we actually shouldn't be murdering people in the street."
- 11:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Deporting people to third countries that they- Random
- 11:07BRIAN DERRICK: countries.
- 11:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 11:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anyway, we see you Republicans.
- 11:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Brian and I see you, and we're coming for you.
- 11:14BRIAN DERRICK: It is a little funny with the, the commercials just how it's, it's just another thing in a long string of things that are sort of i- inexplicable that Donald Trump has e- engaged in or, or decisions that he's made that are really indefensible heading into a, an election where he's historically unpopular.
- 11:36BRIAN DERRICK: His unfavorability is now at a record level.
- 11:40BRIAN DERRICK: Not in the last 40 years have we seen- Mm-hmm … a president heading into a midterm cycle this unpopular.
- 11:47BRIAN DERRICK: And then at the same time, mortgage rates just soared above 7.5%.
- 11:53BRIAN DERRICK: Nobody's- They're 7.8%… GLENNIS MEAGHER: buying a house.
- 11:55BRIAN DERRICK: Aren't they?
- 11:56BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 11:56BRIAN DERRICK: It's bananas.
- 11:58BRIAN DERRICK: Diesel highest it's ever been.
- 12:01BRIAN DERRICK: I'm seeing constant viral content over, like, $1,000 gas bills at the gas station.
- 12:08BRIAN DERRICK: And then Trump, it's so funny.
- 12:10BRIAN DERRICK: I can't even deal.
- 12:11BRIAN DERRICK: I'm reading from Punchbowl.
- 12:12BRIAN DERRICK: Mm. Trump is planning to begin a national political tour on Thursday focused largely on Republican strongholds.
- 12:18BRIAN DERRICK: So he's specifically going to red places 'cause he can't even, like- Yeah turn people out or, or have a, a decent- Right … presence in, in anywhere purple.
- 12:28BRIAN DERRICK: The president will talk about how great data centers are.
- 12:33BRIAN DERRICK: He's going on a data center promotional tour.
- 12:37BRIAN DERRICK: It's the one thing everyone agrees on.
- 12:39BRIAN DERRICK: Is against, yeah.
- 12:40BRIAN DERRICK: Other than him being just, like, a piece of shit, is like, it's so widely unpopular to be pro data center right now.
- 12:48BRIAN DERRICK: And he's like, "Wait, let me tie myself-
- 12:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: to the Republican I'm gonna tell you I'm on the ballot, and then I'm gonna tie myself also to data centers in your backyard." Two kind of addendums I wanna add to this point, which is my heat was on this morning in my apartment, and I was like, "Damn, too soon." Let me, let me Google the cost of heat, if it's gone up, 'cause I'm thinking about, like, how much is this gonna cost me.
- 13:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 13:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's up 8.7%.
- 13:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Americans are going to pay 8.7% more on their heating costs this year.
- 13:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Over $1,000 more- Yikes … from last year.
- 13:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oil is up 31%, electricity is up 9%, propane is up 8.7%, natural gas is up 5.8%.
- 13:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: Adding that stat to what's- Yeah … what it's gonna cost you to keep your family warm this winter.
- 13:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: And- Not
- 13:36BRIAN DERRICK: me.
- 13:36BRIAN DERRICK: I'll be in a sleeping bag.
- 13:38BRIAN DERRICK: S- Don't catch me with that 10%.
- 13:40BRIAN DERRICK: I--
- 13:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, I'll put a hat on.
- 13:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: I put some wool socks and a hat on, put a heating pad in bed with me.
- 13:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is Victorian times, okay?
- 13:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: It
- 13:49BRIAN DERRICK: is Victorian times.
- 13:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is very, like, corrupt.
- 13:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was reading this this morning on the data center of it all.
- 13:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see the New York Times headline about Meta and the tax loophole that they are using for data centers, and how it is saving them?
- 14:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let me just get this number right.
- 14:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: They shaved $2 billion with this strategy off their taxes in 2024, and almost 4 billion off in 2025.
- 14:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: And what Meta is doing with data centers is they're saying that it's experimental, it's innovative.
- 14:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's a, a 1980s, probably Reagan-era tax loophole that says if you're, like, engaging in innovative research and strategy, you can cut your operational costs for said research and innovation.
- 14:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: So Mark Zuckerberg-
- 14:36BRIAN DERRICK: That's
- 14:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: wild and Meta, with the data centers that are making your electrical bill more expensive and your reality horrible, the humming, the constant humming and, like, sound coming out of data centers.
- 14:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's just- Right … laughing all the way to the bank.
- 14:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: And Trump wants him to.
- 14:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Trump wants him to.
- 14:55BRIAN DERRICK: That's so crazy.
- 14:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: The exact IRS terminology is, like, pilot models, so they're saying that the chips they're buying from Nvidia and all of these centers are pilot models.
- 15:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm like, "I'm gonna pilot model a new life, and write it off
- 15:12BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, so we're in a new term of the Supreme Court, and we're gonna get a bunch more shitty decisions based on the cases that they're deciding to take up.
- 15:21BRIAN DERRICK: But the thing that I did wanna celebrate is that this makes it pretty much impossible or extremely unlikely that Alito or Thomas decides to step down from the Supreme Court pre-November.
- 15:36BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it's basically too late.
- 15:37BRIAN DERRICK: The Senate's out of session after today anyway.
- 15:40BRIAN DERRICK: So Trump is not getting his replacement pre-midterms.
- 15:45BRIAN DERRICK: There's a chance that if we flip the Senate, they could try to do it in the lame duck, meaning between the election and when new senators are sworn in.
- 15:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well-
- 15:56BRIAN DERRICK: But that would be a challenge and potentially unprecedented.
- 16:00BRIAN DERRICK: I would need to go do some additional research.
- 16:02BRIAN DERRICK: And Jon Husted, the senator from Ohio who's filling out- Mm-hmm … JD's term, doesn't have until January.
- 16:12BRIAN DERRICK: He's only in his seat- He's out,
- 16:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: right?
- 16:14BRIAN DERRICK: The, the, the appointment only lasts until December 15th.
- 16:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah,
- 16:17BRIAN DERRICK: see ya.
- 16:18BRIAN DERRICK: And so they'll lose another seat as well, even before new senators are sworn in.
- 16:23BRIAN DERRICK: So we might be, we might be in safe harbor.
- 16:26BRIAN DERRICK: We might be in the period of time where if we do flip the Senate, then we might be able to block a Supreme Court replacement for Trump.
- 16:37BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, the issue that we're gonna have is Fetterman.
- 16:40BRIAN DERRICK: So-
- 16:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see his gaffe-
- 16:43BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah … this week?
- 16:43BRIAN DERRICK: So, so bad.
- 16:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: For those who missed it, he said, "I've, I've been a lifelong Republican.
- 16:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, uh, I mean, Democrat."
- 16:52BRIAN DERRICK: He didn't even correct it.
- 16:53BRIAN DERRICK: It's he, he got corrected.
- 16:54BRIAN DERRICK: It was so crazy.
- 16:56BRIAN DERRICK: I mean- So crazy … it's weird that we don't talk about the fact that he is suffering from brain damage.
- 17:01BRIAN DERRICK: It's, it's weird to me that we don't talk about it more often.
- 17:04BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like, is this like a ableism thing?
- 17:08BRIAN DERRICK: Is that, like, why we're not saying this?
- 17:10BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 17:10BRIAN DERRICK: But, like, we should talk about how, like, he- We're not so woke … had a stroke- Be
- 17:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: stoked out.
- 17:14BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, he's, he's-… has brain damage, is not competent to serve at all, and is still in office.
- 17:20BRIAN DERRICK: It's ver- it's weird to me that we don't just, like, say that m- more.
- 17:24BRIAN DERRICK: I don't see people saying it more.
- 17:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Maybe we should add in, like, our accountability era some sort of policy that says if elected official suffers a serious medical incident that requires insert length of hospital stay here- They lose their job
- 17:42BRIAN DERRICK: This is the Tom Kean Jr.
- 17:44BRIAN DERRICK: thing as well- Mm-hmm … where he was gone for four months with no explanation, not even a doctor's note, nothing.
- 17:51BRIAN DERRICK: Didn't tell anyone, didn't tell… Literally didn't tell anyone, just stopped showing up to work for four months.
- 17:58BRIAN DERRICK: But while he was gone, continued to sign approvals for stock transactions.
- 18:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh,
- 18:06BRIAN DERRICK: so he was- Um Okay.
- 18:07BRIAN DERRICK: So that he could- He was fit enough … making money.
- 18:09BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 18:10BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 18:10BRIAN DERRICK: Mm. Correct.
- 18:10BRIAN DERRICK: But couldn't attend a meeting, couldn't call in, couldn't do an interview, couldn't tell anyone where he was, but he could sign off on stock transactions.
- 18:20BRIAN DERRICK: And he was gone for inpatient treatment for depression.
- 18:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 18:24BRIAN DERRICK: Which- I feel like I've made my feelings about that.
- 18:26BRIAN DERRICK: I think that you have the same one.
- 18:27BRIAN DERRICK: It's like no tea, no shade.
- 18:29BRIAN DERRICK: Great.
- 18:29BRIAN DERRICK: Get treatment.
- 18:30BRIAN DERRICK: Love that.
- 18:30BRIAN DERRICK: You don't need to be in Congress while you do that.
- 18:33BRIAN DERRICK: You actually aren't entitled to this seat regardless of what happens to you, and so I'm very sorry that you went through that, but, like, make a decision to take time away to be with your family, to get well- To get well and then run again in the future.
- 18:49BRIAN DERRICK: That's like your- Yeah … you have the ability to do that, but you don't have the right to sit on a seat and just deprive almost a million people of any representation.
- 18:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 18:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: Love and light- It's a joke … with you next.
- 19:00BRIAN DERRICK: Same with Fetterman, get the fuck out.
- 19:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 19:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see the stat that our elected officials in the federal government would not meet the work requirement in the new SNAP rules?
- 19:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, they did not physically work enough this year.
- 19:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: For those who don't know, with the big brutal bill, murder bill, MAGA murder budget, whatever you wanna call it, the thing that literally stripped children from SNAP benefits, they had a new work requirement for receiving SNAP, which said that you had to work X amount of days per year in order to receive the benefit.
- 19:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: And the viral post is that the House has not worked enough to receive that.
- 19:36BRIAN DERRICK: It's crazy.
- 19:37BRIAN DERRICK: The least productive Congress we've had in over a century.
- 19:41BRIAN DERRICK: It's pretty crazy.
- 19:43BRIAN DERRICK: It's what a Republican trifecta will get you.
- 19:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm.
- 19:46BRIAN DERRICK: Did you watch any of the Jack Smith hearings?
- 19:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did I?
- 19:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: In Senate.
- 19:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: As someone who's going to the Iowa Hawkeyes homecoming game this weekend, I sure did.
- 19:59BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, it's so funny.
- 20:00BRIAN DERRICK: It's really funny.
- 20:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: So for those who missed it, Jack Smith, the Republicans are trying, it's a witch hunt against him, right?
- 20:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, this is an actual witch hunt, and there was this moment that felt like truly a Veep episode where this Republican senator from Missouri, what's his name?
- 20:16BRIAN DERRICK: Eric Schmitt.
- 20:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Eric Schmitt, is trying to pin Jack Smith for perjury by saying that he's lying about where he was on a date and time, and he is trying to say that he was in Atlanta with Fani Willis, who they're trying to say is super corrupt, yada, yada, yada The senator is like, "The Hawks.
- 20:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Were you at the Hawks game?" And Jack's like, "Mm, no.
- 20:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like I, I- no, I don't think I was there."
- 20:48BRIAN DERRICK: B- basically, he switched the Iowa Hawkeyes with the Atlanta Hawks, NBA team, college football team, and they were trying to claim that Jack Smith was in Atlanta when he was actually in Iowa.
- 21:02BRIAN DERRICK: And it comes out, like, live, and he thought that he had him in this gotcha moment.
- 21:06BRIAN DERRICK: They had, like, posters blown up with evidence.
- 21:09BRIAN DERRICK: They, like, were laying out this whole case and timeline, whatever, and the whole thing was a mistake by some intern who prepped Eric Schmitt's remarks.
- 21:20BRIAN DERRICK: As we all know, a bunch of senators on both sides of the aisle are just reading when-- in these hearings- And they don't know they're just reading- Yeah… whatever staff sort of puts in front of them as, like, "Here's your line of questioning that we prepared for this witness," whatever.
- 21:35BRIAN DERRICK: He's just reading from it, and oh my gosh, I just think about the staffer who prepped it, watching it unfold live and realizing their mistake.
- 21:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, yeah.
- 21:48BRIAN DERRICK: Oh my gosh.
- 21:49BRIAN DERRICK: You couldn't sink-- I would be under the Earth's crust.
- 21:52BRIAN DERRICK: I would… No.
- 21:55BRIAN DERRICK: It's so embarrassing 'cause he really- Yeah … came at him like he was trapping him in this thing.
- 22:02BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 22:02BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 22:02BRIAN DERRICK: And then just wildly, wildly off the mark, Amy Klobuchar also was like, "Are you fucking kidding me with this?" You're wrong.
- 22:10BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 22:10BRIAN DERRICK: Like, what are you talking about?
- 22:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: She was like,"You're wrong." Yeah, and then he, like, had a meltdown and was like, "You're still a dirt bag," and, like, ran away.
- 22:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: But to your point, we need to bring back fear.
- 22:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: As a former Senate staffer, you were-- I'm not saying… You, you, you had a f- a fear of disappointing your principal.
- 22:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: You had a fear of getting the facts wrong because you understood the weight and the importance of the position of being a senator and getting it right for your constituents, and making sure that the senator looked good and had fact-based information.
- 22:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: To me, also, I saw that, I was like, that Republican in that office to not know who the Iowa Hawkeyes are?
- 22:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: To not know, like, these, like, core college football teams?
- 22:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: I feel like I don't even like football.
- 22:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: I could probably name most college football teams and NFL teams because I'm an American.
- 22:59BRIAN DERRICK: The senator's also from Missouri, so I'm like-
- 23:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're
- 23:03BRIAN DERRICK: close to Iowa… you're-- you share a border.
- 23:05BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it's right there.
- 23:08BRIAN DERRICK: The reason it was particularly funny is that no one, literally no one knows who Eric Schmitt is.
- 23:15BRIAN DERRICK: No one knew before this was ultra viral this week.
- 23:19BRIAN DERRICK: The day before this happened, actually maybe even the morning of- There was a whole piece in Axios about how he is JD Vance's favorite for VP- … when Vance runs for president.
- 23:34BRIAN DERRICK: And so this moron is literally getting, same day, is getting national spotlight for consideration- An idiot … as a potential VP pick, and makes tons of news as a literal village idiot.
- 23:52BRIAN DERRICK: Hilarious.
- 23:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it was mortifying.
- 23:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Folks should look it up.
- 23:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Maybe we can roll the clip here so people can hear it live.
- 23:58ERIC SCHMITT: Did you go to an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks on February 3rd, 2024?
- 24:04ERIC SCHMITT: Let me, let me just give you a little context.
- 24:05ERIC SCHMITT: Yeah.
- 24:05ERIC SCHMITT: The day before, Fani Willis came clean with her affair with the prosecutor.
- 24:10ERIC SCHMITT: You know the Atlanta prosecutor that was also trying to get Trump?
- 24:12ERIC SCHMITT: The next day, were you in Atlanta?
- 24:15JACK SMITH: No.
- 24:15ERIC SCHMITT: What would you say if I had a series of text messages from your team that said you were in Atlanta at a Warrior Hawks game on February 3rd, 2024, the day after Willis and Wade announced their affair?
- 24:26ERIC SCHMITT: Y- I don't think you know that we have this stuff.
- 24:28ERIC SCHMITT: Yeah.
- 24:28ERIC SCHMITT: So I'll give you a second to process it so you don't, you know, perjure yourself.
- 24:32ERIC SCHMITT: You've, I think you've already perjured yourself, but, um-
- 24:36JACK SMITH: If this is the correct basketball game, I recall going to a University of Maryland basketball game where Caitlin Clark was playing.
- 24:44JACK SMITH: Right around that time was Maryland playing Iowa, I think February of 2024.
- 24:51JACK SMITH: But again, that's … You can check that out if that's what we're talking about
- 24:59AMY KLOBUCHAR: Could, could it then be that University of Iowa is the Hawkeyes?
- 25:03AMY KLOBUCHAR: Could that be it if he was at an Iowa game?
- 25:06AMY KLOBUCHAR: Is that correct?
- 25:07JACK SMITH: It, it was because Caitlin Clark was coming to Maryland to play.
- 25:10AMY KLOBUCHAR: That might be the confusion over the names of the team, but perhaps you should have looked at it more carefully.
- 25:15AMY KLOBUCHAR: But it's not your time.
- 25:15AMY KLOBUCHAR: When you are calling a witness a dirt bag-
- 25:18ERIC SCHMITT: I presented him with text
- 25:19AMY KLOBUCHAR: messages- … and
- 25:19ERIC SCHMITT: showing
- 25:20AMY KLOBUCHAR: him
- 25:20ERIC SCHMITT: these things … about him wanting to meet with people.
- 25:22CHAIRMAN: Please.
- 25:23AMY KLOBUCHAR: I'm gonna begin my questions now, but I think that people should have their facts straight- Oh, we had bonus time around here … before they accuse someone of being a dirt bag and not get the teams wrong.
- 25:31ERIC SCHMITT: I stand by that statement.
- 25:32CHAIRMAN: Uh, Klobuchar
- 25:34AMY KLOBUCHAR: has the- Teams, you have the teams wrong, sir… CHAIRMAN: Senator Klobuchar- Mr. Chairman… has the floor.
- 25:38AMY KLOBUCHAR: Go, proceed with your questions.
- 25:39AMY KLOBUCHAR: Thank you.
- 25:41AMY KLOBUCHAR: From the state of Minnesota, where we have the Gophers, so there's not a lot of confusion.
- 25:45AMY KLOBUCHAR: Hee hee hee.
- 25:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Idiot.
- 25:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 25:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Should we do some click bait Double Click?
- 25:51BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 25:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay Brian, headline one.
- 25:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: All right.
- 25:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: "Embarrassing breach at FBI fuels fear of harm to its employees."
- 25:59BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, what i- what ha- what happened?
- 26:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Have you not been following the FBI breach?
- 26:04BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 26:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: The huge hacking from Shiny Hunters?
- 26:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 26:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, raise your hand if you've been hacked by- Shiny Hunters?
- 26:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't
- 26:10BRIAN DERRICK: even know what that is.
- 26:10BRIAN DERRICK: What is that?
- 26:11BRIAN DERRICK: … GLENNIS MEAGHER: by I have.
- 26:13BRIAN DERRICK: This is the worst hacking of federal databases since the 2012 hacking from China.
- 26:19BRIAN DERRICK: Do you remember this?
- 26:21BRIAN DERRICK: Of the Office of Personnel Management?
- 26:23BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 26:23BRIAN DERRICK: Where they took my information.
- 26:24BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like, "You're not, you're not gonna get much out of me.
- 26:27BRIAN DERRICK: You, you can't make me a spy." Cut to, this was what, last week?
- 26:31BRIAN DERRICK: So Shiny Hunters, which is a dark web hacking group, hacked the FBI and pulled tranches of data on their employees out, and then they blackmailed the FBI and said,"We're gonna do something with this information." It's a big deal.
- 26:51BRIAN DERRICK: It's like a really- Yeah … big deal.
- 26:52BRIAN DERRICK: It's Double Click just 'cause, like, the incompetency of our government under- Yeah the administration of Donald Trump and his cronies is just really pathetic.
- 27:00BRIAN DERRICK: And like, I would be really scared if I was working, like, the Russia desk at FBI for 30 years as, like, an anonymous employee and all of my information was leaked.
- 27:08BRIAN DERRICK: And now this, you know, vigilante hunter, Shiny Hunter hacker group.
- 27:14BRIAN DERRICK: They said they're not gonna release it now, saying the FBI got to them, and they, they have arrested one person in, I believe, Amsterdam.
- 27:20BRIAN DERRICK: But If I was China- Yeah … I'd be like, "I'm gonna give you guys a billion dollars for that information." Right.
- 27:29BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 27:30BRIAN DERRICK: Double-click indeed, 'cause I haven't even heard about it.
- 27:32BRIAN DERRICK: But I do think that the FBI, despite elected Republicans' complaints about some sort of partisan whatever the fuck, is really widely respected.
- 27:46BRIAN DERRICK: I think that's like a bipartisan thing that-
- 27:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: people like the FBI.
- 27:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: So any news about Trump undermining the ability for us to have law and order at that level is gonna resonate with conservative-leaning voters.
- 28:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, my next one for you.
- 28:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Despite hosting the World Cup, the US saw a decline in overseas travel by more than two million people last year.
- 28:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is now down more than 20%.
- 28:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: And for context, tourism to the United States generates over $2 trillion a year in economic activity, and is responsible for over 3% of GDP.
- 28:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is the people coming to the United States to visit.
- 28:33BRIAN DERRICK: Correct.
- 28:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, double-click.
- 28:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Correct.
- 28:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Down
- 28:35BRIAN DERRICK: 20%.
- 28:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Trump, MAGA Inc., MAGA Republicans, bad business.
- 28:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Bad for our economy, bad for the American people It's bad.
- 28:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 28:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: No one… Of- why would you want to come here if you're scared you're gonna be detained at the border without cause?
- 28:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like this is, these are things that are happening.
- 28:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double click, Trump is bad for business.
- 28:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's bad for the economy.
- 28:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's bad for small businesses.
- 29:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's bad for your bottom line.
- 29:02BRIAN DERRICK: This is part of the reason that the blue wave and all of the crazy positive data for Democrats seems legitimate.
- 29:10BRIAN DERRICK: Like some of the things that make me believe that this is real and not just a bad polling year is because of things like this.
- 29:17BRIAN DERRICK: Think about how many people are impacted by a 20% drop in tourism from overseas.
- 29:23BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 29:24BRIAN DERRICK: All kinds of people, all kinds of people of all different political persuasions- Yes … are directly affected by that.
- 29:30BRIAN DERRICK: The same as we've talked about many times with the farmers, right?
- 29:33BRIAN DERRICK: When you look at how- Mm-hmm … the ag industry has been impacted by Trump policies, uh, many Trump policies, like that's why it's real.
- 29:41BRIAN DERRICK: That's why it's not a mirage of people just like registering annoyance.
- 29:44BRIAN DERRICK: It is like a simmering economic rage that people- Totally … feel about having their livelihoods destroyed intentionally by Trump.
- 29:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Y- yeah, and I'm even looking at, you know, this college football tour I'm going on.
- 29:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like the prices for these flights are astronomical, and this is something you've been doing with your family.
- 30:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is it college football?
- 30:02BRIAN DERRICK: Did you
- 30:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: say that?
- 30:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, yeah.
- 30:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's what I'm… Yeah, I'm going to… No, I, I didn't say that, but now you know.
- 30:06BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, it started as a US Senate tour of like, "Oh, Glennis is gonna be knocking on doors," and now it's just you going to- Oh … college football games to like shotgun beers at a tailgate?
- 30:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: First of all, I will not be shotgunning a beer.
- 30:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: I haven't done that for at least 15 years.
- 30:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, it's, it's leveraging the power of college football and, uh-
- 30:26BRIAN DERRICK: Hmm.
- 30:27BRIAN DERRICK: Do you have tickets to the games?
- 30:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 30:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm not going to the games.
- 30:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm
- 30:31BRIAN DERRICK: solely
- 30:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: tailgating.
- 30:32BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 30:32BRIAN DERRICK: All right.
- 30:32BRIAN DERRICK: That was gonna be very sus.
- 30:33BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 30:33BRIAN DERRICK: If you were a Republican, you would have tickets to the games.
- 30:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, 100%.
- 30:37BRIAN DERRICK: You would, you would have expensed that.
- 30:38BRIAN DERRICK: And
- 30:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: I would… Yeah, it would've been a pilot program, and I would've expensed it out to the IRS.
- 30:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: If you're a family who's gone for 20 years, and you, maybe you live, you know, a couple states over, and you've flown or you've driven, and the, the cost to attend a homecoming game has gone up 30%- Right you might not be going, and that might affect your vote.
- 30:57BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 30:57BRIAN DERRICK: I think it's gonna be a lot of people just who don't show up, you know?
- 31:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
- 31:01BRIAN DERRICK: Because they're like, "Fuck this guy. He lied." A new alliance has formed between AI companies and private equity firms that is targeting seven states with data center expansions.
- 31:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: I hate it.
- 31:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double click.
- 31:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: What are the states?
- 31:18BRIAN DERRICK: Double fucking click.
- 31:20BRIAN DERRICK: Texas, Georgia- Mm … Ohio, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and South Carolina.
- 31:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: Interesting choices
- 31:30BRIAN DERRICK: Double click.
- 31:31BRIAN DERRICK: Can you- Yeah … can you quadruple click something?
- 31:34BRIAN DERRICK: We're gonna quadruple click this.
- 31:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, that's absolutely crazy.
- 31:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: We know that private equity is, like, the cause for the gentrification of, like, basically anything and everything you ever enjoyed, and this feels like the axis of evil of 2026.
- 31:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's so bad.
- 31:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: What do you… I don't- Right … even get it.
- 31:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: So private equity is going to buy up, what, like, thousands of acres of farmland to make sure that OpenAI and, like, Palantir have as much data as humanly possible?
- 32:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: And, uh, sorry, I could go on and on.
- 32:07BRIAN DERRICK: Here's my, here's my take on it.
- 32:09BRIAN DERRICK: More data centers have been built or are, like, in the works being discussed in the whole US than, like, Burger Kings or Wendy's.
- 32:19BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it's so many, and as the pushback and backlash has gotten more severe, I think that what has happened is the people with a financial interest in building more data centers, which are AI companies and- Mm-hmm … the financiers backing them, have decided they can't fight everyone all at once.
- 32:39BRIAN DERRICK: So they need to define a set of battles that they think they can win and fight the war on those specific fronts, rather than trying to win over everyone everywhere all at once.
- 32:52BRIAN DERRICK: It's too expensive.
- 32:53BRIAN DERRICK: And so they're narrowing their focus to seven states where they can buy legislators, they can focus their political operations on ousting people who stand in their way, and buying, you'll notice based on the states, Republican- Yeah … majorities and pushing through their agendas and favorable policies to building more data centers in these states.
- 33:17BRIAN DERRICK: The only one with split government is Pennsylvania.
- 33:21BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 33:21BRIAN DERRICK: All the other ones have unified Republican control, and they know that Republicans will do anything for cash.
- 33:28BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 33:28BRIAN DERRICK: Like, they, they've proven that time and time and time and time and time again.
- 33:31BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 33:31BRIAN DERRICK: And so that's, that is what is happening in my eyes, is they're like, "We actually can't simultaneously be battling policy in New York, and in Florida, and in Montana, and in California.
- 33:45BRIAN DERRICK: Like, we have to pick.
- 33:47BRIAN DERRICK: We're gonna go all in on these seven." Yeah.
- 33:50BRIAN DERRICK: "We're gonna change who's in charge in these places, and then we're gonna jam all of the data centers that we need into these seven states."
- 33:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: I really hate that, and I am going to read more on that, given that I'm gonna be in four of those states that you mentioned.
- 34:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're building a data center outside of Iowa City.
- 34:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was looking at that yesterday.
- 34:09BRIAN DERRICK: Hmm.
- 34:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: I hate it.
- 34:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: I hate it.
- 34:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: And, and then we don't have time for this, but then you, you kind of get into like, you know, the AI leaders were at the White House this week, and they're talking about how everything needs to be regulated, and it's called regulatory control.
- 34:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, they're trying to say, "We wanna say exactly how it's gonna be regulated to make sure that we're still the leaders in this industry." It's very nefarious, and I hate it.
- 34:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 34:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double click, quadruple click.
- 34:35BRIAN DERRICK: For sure.
- 34:36BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, to your point about the AI dinner or lunch that was just had at the White House- Mm-hmm it answers the question that I think a lot of, like, MAGA and MAGA curious and Trump voting non-MAGA 2024 people are asking, which is like, why is Trump doing all of this?
- 34:57BRIAN DERRICK: You know what I mean?
- 34:57BRIAN DERRICK: Like, there's all this stuff that he said he wouldn't do that now he's doing, stuff that he said he would do that he didn't do, and it's kind of like, why?
- 35:07BRIAN DERRICK: Because he's so obviously unpopular for doing it.
- 35:10BRIAN DERRICK: What is the incentive behind it?
- 35:12BRIAN DERRICK: We've already talked at length for two years about the personal enrichment, right?
- 35:17BRIAN DERRICK: Is like there's a huge amount of it that's done specifically to make money for himself and his family, but not all of it.
- 35:24BRIAN DERRICK: It doesn't explain every decision.
- 35:27BRIAN DERRICK: There's a whole nother crop of terrible decisions that he's made because of the people that he has surrounded himself with.
- 35:33BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 35:33BRIAN DERRICK: Because the number one criteria is undying blind loyalty- Yep … over competence or being at all expert in your field or, or anything like that.
- 35:45BRIAN DERRICK: And he's just so insulated from the real world- Mm-hmm that I don't think that he knows or believes much of the truth anymore.
- 35:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 35:54BRIAN DERRICK: And the lunch showed that.
- 35:56BRIAN DERRICK: It was, as Axios reported, the richest table- Mm-hmm … of people ever assembled in the history of the world.
- 36:05BRIAN DERRICK: Disgusting.
- 36:05BRIAN DERRICK: By a lot.
- 36:06BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, that's what he's basing all of his decisions off of.
- 36:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, did you see the Alex Karp interview, like, with CNBC?
- 36:13BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah,
- 36:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: insane.
- 36:13ALEX KARP: Okay, you know what?
- 36:14ALEX KARP: I love you guys ask these questions.
- 36:15ALEX KARP: Yeah.
- 36:15ALEX KARP: They're stupid as [expletive] . Okay.
- 36:17ALEX KARP: I'll give you like- What's a good question?
- 36:17ALEX KARP: Okay, like- What's a good question?
- 36:18ALEX KARP: What do you think about AI and why do you believe it?
- 36:21ALEX KARP: Why is it good for America?
- 36:22ALEX KARP: Do you think I'm the village idiot?
- 36:24CNBC REPORTER: I'm asking you the question,
- 36:24ALEX KARP: right?
- 36:24ALEX KARP: Okay, exactly.
- 36:25ALEX KARP: So you can answer however you want to answer.
- 36:25ALEX KARP: So I'll give you a… I, I… No, no, I gave you a question that was- Yeah.
- 36:28ALEX KARP: So this is a question I could answer.
- 36:29ALEX KARP: All right, what's, what do you- What do you believe about AI?
- 36:31ALEX KARP: Let's do that.
- 36:31ALEX KARP: Is it, what is it?
- 36:33ALEX KARP: What do you believe about AI?
- 36:33ALEX KARP: Okay.
- 36:33ALEX KARP: AI has to work for the war fighter.
- 36:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: It was disgusting the way he, like, got in the CNBC reporter's face.
- 36:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know.
- 36:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was like, I would've
- 36:40BRIAN DERRICK: physically pushed him- I would've
- 36:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: pushed him … if
- 36:42BRIAN DERRICK: I was that guy.
- 36:43BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 36:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: I sent to our group chat, "I've never seen a more punchable face." Like, this guy… I, they, they think that they're gods.
- 36:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it's really disturbing.
- 36:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: Bernie Sanders has, has talked about a, a sovereign wealth fund around AI, and I'm, like, fully for that.
- 36:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is our intelligence, our academics' writings, like, our brains that are being extracted for these AI machines.
- 37:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're watching our future be stripped from us and our economic stability being stripped from us as Americans in real time.
- 37:15BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, hundo.
- 37:16BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, well, I do wanna give everyone something actionable that they can be doing because just to the point of why the AI Private Equity Alliance is focused on these seven states, we need more Dems in office who are gonna fight back against these things, particularly at the state level, which is why our Oath candidate of the week is Jacob Weinberg, who's running for the Arizona House of Representatives.
- 37:44BRIAN DERRICK: It is identified by Oath as the tipping point seat.
- 37:47BRIAN DERRICK: So if we win this race and the races that are more Democratic than it, we will retake the Arizona House of Representatives, pushing us one step closer to unified government there, hopefully in November.
- 37:59BRIAN DERRICK: And he's also just a really cool guy.
- 38:02BRIAN DERRICK: When I was looking through which races from Arizona I would wanna highlight, he's a veteran.
- 38:07BRIAN DERRICK: He was in the Army.
- 38:09BRIAN DERRICK: He was a parachutist.
- 38:10BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like, "Okay, work." He climbed Kilimanjaro, which is also a reason that he stuck out to me personally and I was vibing with.
- 38:17BRIAN DERRICK: And he's a young, new voice for Arizona, and he seems like a very chill dude that you would totally want to shotgun a beer with.
- 38:25BRIAN DERRICK: You should see if he's available on your college football tour wh- while you're tailgating.
- 38:28BRIAN DERRICK: Um- Oh, I'm not
- 38:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: gonna be at ASU, unfortunately.
- 38:32BRIAN DERRICK: If you're looking for something you can actually do about all this stuff that's really pissing you off, he's an amazing candidate to go support right now.
- 38:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Great.
- 38:39BRIAN DERRICK: For our Good Vibe Goodbye this week- … we have an Avengers moment.
- 38:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, okay.
- 38:48BRIAN DERRICK: In Nevada, we have a very competitive governor's race.
- 38:53BRIAN DERRICK: There's a Republican incumbent, Joe Lombardo.
- 38:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Boo.
- 38:57BRIAN DERRICK: We hate.
- 38:58BRIAN DERRICK: We hate.
- 38:59BRIAN DERRICK: We
- 38:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: hate.
- 39:00BRIAN DERRICK: Who is running a-- He's the guy for people, just for people to remember, that said Trump needs to give money to his billionaire friends to keep them happy so that they'll create jobs for people, as if that's how the economy works.
- 39:13BRIAN DERRICK: Um, and he's running against Aaron Ford.
- 39:15BRIAN DERRICK: Trickle
- 39:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: down.
- 39:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Trickle
- 39:16BRIAN DERRICK: down.
- 39:16BRIAN DERRICK: Nevada's… Exactly.
- 39:18BRIAN DERRICK: Nevada's current attorney general, and it's a really tough race.
- 39:21BRIAN DERRICK: We've been recommending Aaron Ford.
- 39:22BRIAN DERRICK: We've talked about him on the pod all cycle.
- 39:24BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 39:24BRIAN DERRICK: He's been chronically underfunded, and we're getting this last-minute surge effort to try to put him over the line because right now it's looking tough.
- 39:34BRIAN DERRICK: And so in Nevada- In the next, like week and a half, we have Elissa Slotkin, Pete Buttigieg, Gretchen Whitmer, Mark Kelly, Rahm Emanuel, Andy Beshear, Ro Khanna.
- 39:51It is literally an Avengers: Endgame moment of a- every nationally recognized, like, next gen Democrat all- Yeah … swarming to the state in the same 10-day period to stump and rally for Aaron Ford, to try and get him over the line as governor.
- 40:10It is literally an Avengers: So that is our good vibe of the week is teamwork.
- 40:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I was, like envisioning in my head, like a spin board of all the different faces, and it's like, "Okay, who are we landing on?" And a question for you, do they feel like the progressive caucus or, like an AOC is not helpful?
- 40:25BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, Ro Khanna represents that wing.
- 40:26BRIAN DERRICK: Oh,
- 40:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Ro Khanna.
- 40:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Sorry.
- 40:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 40:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: I missed R- sorry, Ro.
- 40:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: Didn't see you there.
- 40:31BRIAN DERRICK: Was it- I don't know if AOC is gonna show up or not, but she wasn't included in the article.
- 40:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oof.
- 40:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's crazy that, like Ro Khanna and Rahm Emanuel are in- Right,
- 40:38BRIAN DERRICK: right… GLENNIS MEAGHER: the same.
- 40:40BRIAN DERRICK: Totally.
- 40:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 40:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: I
- 40:42BRIAN DERRICK: honestly- Go, go, Power Rangers.
- 40:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Period.
- 40:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 40:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: We need- Or
- 40:45BRIAN DERRICK: like
- 40:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Captain Planet
- 40:46BRIAN DERRICK: all the help that we can get from lefty lefties to reluctant center right-
- 40:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: now Democrats.
- 40:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're gonna need them all.
- 40:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, and I'll just add, we need all the help that we can get, period.
- 40:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: So if you are listening to Vibes Only, you're still with us at this, like good vibe goodbye, we need you to text your friends and your family.
- 41:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Make sure they have a voting plan.
- 41:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Someone is more likely to go vote if someone personally reaches out to them to go vote.
- 41:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: So like we said, we're not pollsters.
- 41:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: We're just on the vibe.
- 41:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: The vibes are text your friends, make a voting plan, make sure they know who they're voting for.
- 41:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: Everyone needs to do everything they can if we want to win in November.
- 41:27BRIAN DERRICK: Hell yeah.
- 41:28BRIAN DERRICK: Hell yeah.
- 41:28BRIAN DERRICK: All right, guys, thank you for joining us this week.
