- 0:00Speaker 1: Live from Midtown Manhattan, here comes the Mark Simone Show
- 0:05Speaker 1: on 710WOR.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Well, hey, a big show today. Everybody always says that
- 0:12Speaker 2: when they open. It's always a big show. Jam-packed. Nobody
- 0:16Speaker 2: ever opens by saying, eh, not so great today. No, actually,
- 0:19Speaker 2: we've got a lot to talk about. We'll get to
- 0:21Speaker 2: the AI, whatever the hell this PSYOP operation is to
- 0:26Speaker 2: convince you that AI is going to kill you. We'll
- 0:29Speaker 2: get to the Fed rate. It could be raised. Everybody's
- 0:32Speaker 2: expecting a quarter of a point raise later today. We'll
- 0:35Speaker 2: get to Iran and what their real strategy is. We'll
- 0:39Speaker 2: get to Mamdani, his latest crazy scheme in the war
- 0:43Speaker 2: on cars. And we'll get to the Carnegie Deli. It
- 0:48Speaker 2: reopened yesterday. I was there. It was pretty interesting. We'll
- 0:52Speaker 2: give you all the details. Hey, check out my Instagram.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You can see some pictures. Mark Simone. NYC at Instagram. Well,
- 1:03Speaker 2: let's see. The Fed rate will probably go up. Everybody's
- 1:07Speaker 2: expecting a quarter point raise. That will happen later today
- 1:10Speaker 2: when they make the announcement. As a result, actually, stocks
- 1:15Speaker 2: are up. Futures are up. The market's not open yet,
- 1:18Speaker 2: but futures are up. And let me just see here. Yeah,
- 1:22Speaker 2: oil prices down a little, still way too high. but
- 1:26Speaker 2: oil prices, uh, a dollar for a barrel for, uh, WTI,
- 1:30Speaker 2: the American oil, uh, the rest of the world using
- 1:33Speaker 2: Brent crude. That's at one Oh seven. It's very high,
- 1:35Speaker 2: way too high. Now, if, uh, if, uh, we had
- 1:39Speaker 2: a great government here in New York or California or somewhere,
- 1:43Speaker 2: they would help the public with that. Remove the gas
- 1:46Speaker 2: tax and fees in the state right now. Cause here
- 1:49Speaker 2: in New York, it's 50 cents a gallon in tax.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Just remove it for 30 days. Uh, Price will probably
- 1:56Speaker 2: come down in 30 days. Just remove that gas tax
- 1:58Speaker 2: for 30 days. California should do the same thing. It's
- 2:02Speaker 2: 75 cents a gallon. 75 cents a gallon is the
- 2:07Speaker 2: tax in California. Here in New York, it's 50 cents
- 2:11Speaker 2: a gallon. Plus you got almost 20% federal taxes. It
- 2:15Speaker 2: should all be removed for 30 days. I know it
- 2:19Speaker 2: pays for the roads and all, but we've watched them
- 2:23Speaker 2: repair these roads. They're not so good at it. But
- 2:27Speaker 2: we'll see. The real Iran strategy is exactly what they've
- 2:31Speaker 2: done historically. They did this with Jimmy Carter when they
- 2:34Speaker 2: held our hostages. And Carter tried every which way to
- 2:39Speaker 2: get them back. We tried a ridiculous rescue operation. We
- 2:43Speaker 2: tried to negotiate everything, trying to get those hostages back.
- 2:46Speaker 2: When did Iran release them? When did they finally give in?
- 2:50Speaker 2: The second after the election. As soon as Reagan got elected,
- 2:54Speaker 2: they turned them over immediately. In fact, it was while
- 2:57Speaker 2: Reagan was being sworn in, during the swearing-in ceremony of Reagan,
- 3:02Speaker 2: during the inauguration, as his hand hid the Bible, Iran
- 3:06Speaker 2: put those hostages on a plane and had them flown back.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So same strategy here. They're waiting for the midterm elections.
- 3:13Speaker 2: They're praying, hoping the Democrats win, thinking the Democrats will
- 3:17Speaker 2: stop the war, shut it all down. That's what they're
- 3:20Speaker 2: waiting for. If the Republicans win the election, The House,
- 3:26Speaker 2: the Senate, you can be sure Iran will be on
- 3:30Speaker 2: the phone one second later offering a peace deal. So
- 3:34Speaker 2: that's what they're waiting for. They did it with Carter.
- 3:36Speaker 2: They're doing it now. They'll wait till just after the
- 3:39Speaker 2: election to settle. And again, it's their usual pattern. So
- 3:43Speaker 2: the big problem, the reason for the big spike in
- 3:46Speaker 2: oil here over the last few days is Iran got
- 3:50Speaker 2: the hooties mobilized again. and got them armed and financed.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Iran uses various terrorist groups, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and others,
- 3:59Speaker 2: and they got the Houthis to attack a Saudi pipeline,
- 4:03Speaker 2: and they took out a pipeline, an important pipeline that
- 4:07Speaker 2: the Saudis used to get oil out. Now, the good
- 4:10Speaker 2: news is, to repair that pipeline takes about two weeks.
- 4:13Speaker 2: So a week and a half from now, that pipeline
- 4:16Speaker 2: will be operating again. And you've got to protect it,
- 4:18Speaker 2: but apparently you can protect the pipeline. You'll need swarms
- 4:21Speaker 2: of drones... to do it. They're going to need more drones.
- 4:25Speaker 2: They're actually looking to Zelensky in the Ukraine, who has
- 4:28Speaker 2: now become the biggest drone manufacturer in the world. Nobody
- 4:32Speaker 2: turns out more drones and he's been able to protect
- 4:35Speaker 2: his stuff with these drones. So Saudi's looking to make
- 4:37Speaker 2: a deal with him, uh, to get that going. So, uh, uh,
- 4:43Speaker 2: Mamdani's got this crazy scheme. Uh, if you hear the speech,
- 4:48Speaker 2: it's about, uh, trying to cut down on traffic deaths and, uh, accidents,
- 4:53Speaker 2: cars hitting, well, that's great. That's wonderful. That's a good
- 4:55Speaker 2: thing to do. But if you look into the fine
- 4:59Speaker 2: print of this plan, which has got like a thousand
- 5:02Speaker 2: components to it, then most of it, most of it
- 5:07Speaker 2: is stuff we're not going to like. Bike lanes everywhere,
- 5:11Speaker 2: bike lanes on top of bike lanes, reducing a lot
- 5:14Speaker 2: of streets. The number of lanes, Park Avenue would have
- 5:17Speaker 2: a huge pedestrian mall in the middle of it. Many
- 5:20Speaker 2: streets would be converted to pedestrian only. Of course, this
- 5:23Speaker 2: is absolutely crazy. This is insane stuff. It's the war
- 5:28Speaker 2: on cars. And it sounds good to people that don't drive,
- 5:33Speaker 2: but it isn't. It affects you in a million ways.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Just take a look at Times Square. And it was
- 5:37Speaker 2: Bloomberg that did that. And you remember, he decided to
- 5:40Speaker 2: make a massive pedestrian mall right in the middle of
- 5:44Speaker 2: Times Square. It just snarled up traffic, which had already
- 5:46Speaker 2: been horrific. Now it's even worse. The Broadway community, furious
- 5:52Speaker 2: about this. They've been trying for years to undo that
- 5:55Speaker 2: pedestrian mall. Makes it tougher and tougher and tougher to
- 5:59Speaker 2: get to a Broadway show, to leave a Broadway show.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's made a traffic situation that was already horrible, even worse.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Also remember, we're in New York. Six months of the year,
- 6:09Speaker 2: it's cold. You're not going to sit outside in the
- 6:12Speaker 2: pedestrian mall. You know, they put these tables and chairs.
- 6:14Speaker 2: There's winter. In winter, who's going to sit out there?
- 6:19Speaker 2: So Mamdani wants to do that with more and more
- 6:22Speaker 2: and more streets. Absolutely ridiculous. So just keep an eye
- 6:29Speaker 2: on this plan. Now, the good news with Mamdani is
- 6:31Speaker 2: he talks a lot and gets very little done. 99%
- 6:34Speaker 2: of the stuff he says never happens. He's not a manager.
- 6:38Speaker 2: He doesn't know how to execute, doesn't know how to
- 6:40Speaker 2: get it done. So that's the good news. The other
- 6:42Speaker 2: part of that cutting down traffic accidents, which is a
- 6:45Speaker 2: good thing to do, of is reducing the speed limit everywhere. Everywhere.
- 6:52Speaker 2: 15 miles an hour in some places. Did you ever
- 6:56Speaker 2: try to drive 15 miles an hour? It's not easy
- 7:00Speaker 2: to do. Unless you're 97 and you're driving Miss Daisy
- 7:03Speaker 2: or something. But it's really tough to drive 15 miles
- 7:07Speaker 2: an hour. It's also a revenue thing because nobody can
- 7:10Speaker 2: do it. So as soon as you're 20 miles an hour,
- 7:13Speaker 2: you're going to get a ticket. It's just a way
- 7:15Speaker 2: to give out more tickets.
- 7:16Speaker 3: And.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It never stops. Hey, the war on AI, it's not
- 7:20Speaker 2: really a war on AI. There's a cartel now that
- 7:23Speaker 2: controls all of AI. The big four AI companies control
- 7:27Speaker 2: it all. And they'd like to keep it that way. Uh,
- 7:30Speaker 2: so that's what this is really all about. Uh, they
- 7:34Speaker 2: pretend they're just noble. They're just saints calling for regulation. So, uh,
- 7:38Speaker 2: anytime you hear tech CEOs trying to sound noble, be very, very, very, uh, weary. And, uh, Well,
- 7:46Speaker 2: anytime you hear people calling for their business to be regulated,
- 7:49Speaker 2: be very wary of these people. The real story is
- 7:54Speaker 2: they've got the whole thing monopolized. The big four. It's
- 7:58Speaker 2: a cartel. They control AI. And they'd like all this regulation,
- 8:02Speaker 2: red tape to come in to keep everybody else out
- 8:05Speaker 2: because they've seen a lot of young upstart companies on
- 8:08Speaker 2: the horizons. All of a sudden there's a lot of
- 8:11Speaker 2: players want to move into AI. This regulation would make
- 8:14Speaker 2: it very tough for them and discourage most of them. Uh,
- 8:18Speaker 2: now there's people jumping in on this fight. Uh, Steve
- 8:22Speaker 2: Bannon teamed up with Bernie Sanders. Now you've got the
- 8:25Speaker 2: two biggest nuts on both sides of the aisle, Bannon
- 8:29Speaker 2: and Sanders, uh, just spewing all kinds of stuff together.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Sanders looks like a guy you'd see in the Carnegie deli, uh,
- 8:39Speaker 2: And he's just, I mean, he's a lovable guy, but
- 8:42Speaker 2: just a lunatic. And Bannon looks like he just robbed
- 8:46Speaker 2: an army surplus store with that outfit. He looks like
- 8:48Speaker 2: he's dressed for Vietnam in the jungle or something. But
- 8:52Speaker 2: two lunatics with this press conference, Bannon.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Once you have time, then you can start the hard
- 8:59Speaker 1: work of what is actually the regulatory apparatus. What is
- 9:03Speaker 1: a regulatory apparatus that does not choke down the creativity?
- 9:08Speaker 2: The drive, the urgency. Yeah, now Sanders.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Despite living in a so-called democracy, the public has had
- 9:17Speaker 3: virtually no input into the AI revolution that is transforming
- 9:24Speaker 3: the world in which they live.
- 9:29Speaker 2: There's the problem. The public has had no input into the...
- 9:34Speaker 2: I got to be honest. You remember when Steve Jobs
- 9:36Speaker 2: was working, coming up with the iPhone? I didn't have
- 9:39Speaker 2: any input. He never consulted us. You remember when they
- 9:42Speaker 2: were inventing Google, those three guys? They never got any
- 9:47Speaker 2: input from us. There's a reason for that. He'll need
- 9:52Speaker 2: any input from us. And what the hell do we know?
- 9:54Speaker 2: What if Steve Jobs did come to me for advice
- 9:56Speaker 2: when he was developing the iPhone? What am I going
- 9:59Speaker 2: to do? Say, yeah, I would put this part over here.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Maybe you should put this over here. What do we know?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Barely know how to use AI. I'm going to have
- 10:07Speaker 2: input into creating it. It doesn't make any sense. But again,
- 10:11Speaker 2: the cartel, and as a lot of people are pointing out,
- 10:14Speaker 2: if the cartel, these four companies, thinks that we should
- 10:18Speaker 2: slow down, Well, you guys have a total monopoly and
- 10:21Speaker 2: control it. Slow down if you want. You think we
- 10:24Speaker 2: should have a slowdown? Start it at 10 o'clock this morning.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Just slow down. You could do it yourself. But this
- 10:32Speaker 2: is all being carefully orchestrated. The quiet ringmaster behind the scenes,
- 10:36Speaker 2: Barack Obama. They had a little meeting for all of this,
- 10:40Speaker 2: and Obama was there. And the one guy leading the charge,
- 10:44Speaker 2: that anthropic CEO very close to Obama, Now, why would
- 10:48Speaker 2: Obama get involved? He thinks, and he's been telling Democrats
- 10:52Speaker 2: this for almost two months. They weren't really listening to him,
- 10:55Speaker 2: but he was telling them, AI is your issue. Make
- 10:59Speaker 2: AI the issue. Make AI the new climate change. The
- 11:03Speaker 2: thing everybody has to be terrified for, and only Democrats
- 11:05Speaker 2: will protect you from it. So Obama, brilliant political strategist,
- 11:10Speaker 2: thought that was the issue. But the thing is, if
- 11:12Speaker 2: you want to talk about AI, A 97-year-old guy like
- 11:17Speaker 2: Bernie Sanders with fogged up glasses who barely knows how
- 11:21Speaker 2: to use his cell phone. This is not your guy.
- 11:23Speaker 4: If AI surpasses human intelligence, as many scientists believe could happen,
- 11:31Speaker 4: this technology will escape human control with potentially catastrophic consequences.
- 11:40Speaker 2: By the way, we like to point out, all the
- 11:43Speaker 2: same stuff was said With even more fear, when they
- 11:48Speaker 2: invented electricity, there was an uproar and a lot of
- 11:51Speaker 2: this took place. You can go back and read the
- 11:54Speaker 2: history of this. When electricity was developed, same thing. They
- 11:57Speaker 2: all wanted it stopped. They were afraid of electricity. It
- 12:00Speaker 2: was going to kill us all. It was going to
- 12:02Speaker 2: create monsters. This was a big, big, big thing in
- 12:06Speaker 2: public back then. And that's what led to Mary Shelley
- 12:11Speaker 2: writing the book Frankenstein, which became a big novel. It
- 12:14Speaker 2: was about electricity. being used to create a monster that
- 12:18Speaker 2: kills us all. So this has been going on forever,
- 12:21Speaker 2: this kind of talk. The Carnegie Deli reopened yesterday. You know,
- 12:28Speaker 2: you got to be a little leery when you try
- 12:30Speaker 2: to bring something back, when you try to recreate some magic.
- 12:33Speaker 2: It doesn't, well, it worked. It really worked. It was
- 12:37Speaker 2: pretty amazing. Check out my Instagram. You'll see some pictures.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Mark Simone, NYC at Instagram. It was packed. There was
- 12:46Speaker 2: a line out the door. They had to have a
- 12:48Speaker 2: big bouncer at the door, a very friendly guy, but
- 12:50Speaker 2: they needed security. There were press everywhere inside. The food, great.
- 13:01Speaker 2: The sandwiches. Now, remember how big the sandwiches were? They're
- 13:05Speaker 2: like eight feet high to 10 feet high, 10 inches high,
- 13:08Speaker 2: the sandwiches. You know, in the age of skimflation and shrinkflation,
- 13:14Speaker 2: Are we going to cut the size down? No, they
- 13:16Speaker 2: increased it. No. No, they're even bigger. They're even bigger. Now,
- 13:20Speaker 2: people look at that sandwich that's like a foot high
- 13:24Speaker 2: with that much pastrami and say, how are you supposed
- 13:26Speaker 2: to eat that? You can't even get that in your mouth.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Who could eat all that? Well, that's true. But that
- 13:30Speaker 2: was part of the magic formula because basically it's three
- 13:34Speaker 2: sandwiches in one. If you got some more bread, you
- 13:37Speaker 2: could make three sandwiches easily out of it. So that's
- 13:40Speaker 2: basically the brilliant business model. You're able to sell your
- 13:45Speaker 2: three sandwiches when you only wanted one. And you can't
- 13:48Speaker 2: complain because you're certainly getting your money's worth. Pop-up bagels,
- 13:52Speaker 2: which is the hot new bagel chain, same thing. Although
- 13:55Speaker 2: they're more obvious about it. You know, the smallest order
- 13:57Speaker 2: you can get at pop-up bagels is three bagels. You
- 14:01Speaker 2: have to order a bag of bagels, a bag of 12,
- 14:03Speaker 2: a bag of 10. You can get the smallest is
- 14:05Speaker 2: a bag of three. So even though you want one bagel,
- 14:08Speaker 2: you got to buy three. It's so good, you do it.
- 14:11Speaker 2: So same thing with the Carnegie. Most people, they take
- 14:13Speaker 2: home what they didn't eat. Sandwiches are phenomenal. The great
- 14:17Speaker 2: cheesecake is back. The pickles are back. There are some
- 14:21Speaker 2: changes that the purists like me that were there in
- 14:26Speaker 2: the heyday of the Carnegie. Remember the big surly waiters?
- 14:30Speaker 2: Remember Herb, that big, big waiter who'd yell at you
- 14:34Speaker 2: and you could order 500 things and he'd say, what else?
- 14:38Speaker 2: What else? Well, I'll have this and this and this. Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 2: what else? And then they'd walk up to that counter
- 14:44Speaker 2: where the waiters would order and they would scream the
- 14:48Speaker 2: orders at the countermen. And by the way, they had
- 14:53Speaker 2: their own code, a pastrami on rye, the most common
- 14:58Speaker 2: order at the Carnegie. Pastrami on rye was a pistol.
- 15:01Speaker 2: So you'd hear Herb, the waiter, go up to the counter,
- 15:03Speaker 2: two pistols. And if you wanted the, rye toasted that
- 15:08Speaker 2: was whiskey down. So they'd say, two pistols, one whiskey down.
- 15:13Speaker 2: They'd always be barking the stuff at the counter. So
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm standing by the counter. And first of all, the
- 15:19Speaker 2: problem is they don't have those old nasty waiters anymore.
- 15:22Speaker 2: They're all young. They're nice looking. They're friendly. They're nice,
- 15:25Speaker 2: friendly waiters. Not the same thing. And I didn't hear
- 15:28Speaker 2: anybody yelling the order at the counter guy. Nobody's yelling.
- 15:31Speaker 2: I said, why aren't they? How come I don't hear it? Well,
- 15:34Speaker 2: it's all done with a little pad. They just type
- 15:36Speaker 2: it in The waiter just types in the order. It's
- 15:40Speaker 2: all digital. It comes up as a ticket on the
- 15:42Speaker 2: other side. No yelling, no noise. It really cut down
- 15:45Speaker 2: on the noise. And again, the big, fat, grumpy waiters,
- 15:49Speaker 2: I didn't see one of them. They're all young. They're
- 15:52Speaker 2: good looking. But they're doing very well. Now, it's in
- 15:55Speaker 2: a different location. You remember where the old Carnegie was?
- 15:58Speaker 2: This was a block south. It's ironically in the location
- 16:04Speaker 2: where the stage deli was Stage Deli, their arch rival
- 16:07Speaker 2: for many years. So it's in the old Stage Deli.
- 16:10Speaker 2: It's beautiful. It's roomier. It's wider. It's nicer than the
- 16:16Speaker 2: old place. Remember they had the pictures all over every wall? Well,
- 16:19Speaker 2: in the new one, they've got the pictures all on
- 16:22Speaker 2: one or two big walls, much more orderly. My picture's
- 16:25Speaker 2: in there somewhere. Look for it. But I asked the owner.
- 16:31Speaker 2: The owner is Marion Harper, Sari Harper, granddaughter of the
- 16:34Speaker 2: original owner, They're running it. Again, check out my Instagram.
- 16:38Speaker 2: You'll see pictures of them. But did you try to
- 16:41Speaker 2: get back the old location? The old location is now
- 16:44Speaker 2: a cannabis store. A cannabis store is where the Carnegie was. So, no,
- 16:51Speaker 2: they didn't. They said there are problems with that building.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And also, they think a developer is going to come
- 16:56Speaker 2: in and take those three or four buildings down and
- 16:59Speaker 2: put up a skyscraper. They didn't need to get in
- 17:01Speaker 2: that fight. So they've got a new location. Also, they're
- 17:04Speaker 2: looking to maybe do a Florida one. We've got a
- 17:06Speaker 2: lot of Florida listeners. They're looking for a Florida Carnegie Deli.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Most likely, Boca Raton would be the place. Not only
- 17:15Speaker 2: is the great cheesecake back, but by the way, they
- 17:17Speaker 2: have a great black and white cookie now. That's the
- 17:19Speaker 2: new thing, the black and white cookie. And it's crowded.
- 17:24Speaker 2: There's a line. It's not bad. It's not that bad.
- 17:26Speaker 2: You don't have to wait that long. Anyway, we've got
- 17:28Speaker 2: a lot more to get to, so stay with us.
- 17:29Speaker 2: It's Mark Simone here. 9 to noon, three hours every day,
- 17:33Speaker 2: 9 to noon, here on 710WOR.
