Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: Thank God it's Friday.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I Emily a body here coming into your feeds with
- 0:25Speaker 2: an episode of five Minute Friday. And let me tell you,
- 0:28Speaker 2: this week has been a lot. It's been a lot
- 0:31Speaker 2: with the news, It's been a lot of work, it's
- 0:33Speaker 2: been a lot of playing a little bit of catch up.
- 0:37Speaker 2: So personally, I am really really ready for the weekend.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I am excited to announce that I am officially signed
- 0:44Speaker 2: up for the second time for the London Marathon. If
- 0:48Speaker 2: you've been a hurdler for a while, then you followed
- 0:51Speaker 2: along last year with my journey to the London Marathon,
- 0:54Speaker 2: ultimately an injury which prevented me from going to London,
- 1:00Speaker 2: pivoting going to Italy, the whole shabang.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And so now that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I am on the brink of another training cycle fourteen
- 1:13Speaker 2: weeks for me gearing up to finally do this thing
- 1:17Speaker 2: that has just been so long time coming, I feel
- 1:23Speaker 2: anxious and nervous and cautiously optimistic. I think a lot
- 1:31Speaker 2: about where I am now, just working on navigating what
- 1:38Speaker 2: has been a little bit of plantro fauci itis for
- 1:42Speaker 2: the past few months, and for more resources and information
- 1:46Speaker 2: on navigating plantro fauci itis, and other foot conditions. Make
- 1:50Speaker 2: sure that you check out Wednesday's episode with doctor Emily Splickel, so.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Many good takeaways in there.
- 1:57Speaker 2: But I have been working with a physical therapist over
- 2:01Speaker 2: at Motive in New York and also just diligently doing
- 2:06Speaker 2: my exercises and really really making it a top priority
- 2:12Speaker 2: to take care of my body. And I'm seeing the
- 2:17Speaker 2: fruits of my efforts, so to speak, pay off. My
- 2:20Speaker 2: plantro fasciidis has gotten much much better. I'm now able
- 2:24Speaker 2: to run without pain. That's not to say that pain
- 2:27Speaker 2: doesn't pop in every now and again, but I'm managing it.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I'm working with it, and i am on the ups,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and I can say that confidently. Now. The thing about
- 2:40Speaker 2: this training cycle that feels unlike maybe any other that
- 2:45Speaker 2: I have gone through, and sometime I really feel like
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'm starting at square one. I mean, I essentially took
- 2:55Speaker 2: off some solid time from any sort of distance run
- 3:01Speaker 2: in April and May, and so for me now starting
- 3:07Speaker 2: this journey after just running a half marathon, and that
- 3:10Speaker 2: experience went like pretty it was pretty difficult for me.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I'm humble and I'm honest, and I'm working to meet
- 3:18Speaker 2: myself with where I'm at It was a conversation that
- 3:21Speaker 2: I had with my pet the other day, homing in
- 3:24Speaker 2: on this idea that doing that, being honest about my
- 3:28Speaker 2: current status is going to be the thing that enables
- 3:32Speaker 2: me to get toward my goals.
- 3:34Speaker 1: If I'm chasing the version.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Of Emily that was running in twenty nineteen when I
- 3:41Speaker 2: snagged my first BQ in the Chicago Marathon, that would
- 3:46Speaker 2: be me doing myself a disservice. I am not starting
- 3:51Speaker 2: in the same place that I started back in twenty nineteen.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Here in twenty twenty two, I am a different person.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I'm dealing with different situations. I am emotionally, physically, and professionally,
- 4:04Speaker 2: like all in a different spot. And so I recognize that,
- 4:09Speaker 2: and I have grace with that. And that doesn't mean
- 4:12Speaker 2: that there aren't going to be moments where I am
- 4:14Speaker 2: my own biggest critic. If you follow me on Instagram,
- 4:17Speaker 2: then you saw that I wrote a post about this.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I mentioned that I had a hard time in my
- 4:20Speaker 2: last half marathon.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I really did.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I ran this race here in New York called the
- 4:25Speaker 2: Midnight Half, and I went out there and just felt
- 4:28Speaker 2: as though so much of my fitness was lacking and
- 4:33Speaker 2: because of that I felt embarrassed, I felt frustrated. I
- 4:37Speaker 2: felt as though I wanted to curl up in a
- 4:41Speaker 2: small ball and completely hide away. And in the days
- 4:46Speaker 2: and weeks since that race, I have come back to
- 4:50Speaker 2: this place of having more grace with myself. Although I
- 4:54Speaker 2: needed to feel those feelings, there are so many realities
- 4:57Speaker 2: that go hand in hand with what happened night. Aside
- 5:01Speaker 2: from taking some time off, I also hadn't run more
- 5:06Speaker 2: than eight and a half miles consecutively before going out
- 5:09Speaker 2: to run that half, and sometime I don't usually stay
- 5:14Speaker 2: a week past ten thirty at night, so going out
- 5:16Speaker 2: to run a half marathon and midnight isn't exactly a breeze.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I mean so many things, none of them excuses, all
- 5:24Speaker 2: just me learning to accept the facts and move forward
- 5:26Speaker 2: doing the best I can with what I have. And
- 5:28Speaker 2: so all of this to say that I'm feeling excited
- 5:33Speaker 2: to get back into some sort of a routine and
- 5:35Speaker 2: have a plan to stick to. I'm feeling anxious, I'm
- 5:39Speaker 2: also feeling really at peace with where I am. I'm
- 5:45Speaker 2: excited about the potential for where I can go. And
- 5:48Speaker 2: I know that going back to that saying all I
- 5:51Speaker 2: can do is truly the best I can with what
- 5:53Speaker 2: I have. And if I'm being honest with myself and
- 5:55Speaker 2: I'm giving the efforts that I'm hoping to give and
- 6:00Speaker 2: dedicating the time and accepting the opportunity cost, then I
- 6:04Speaker 2: hope that when I look back on this training cycle
- 6:07Speaker 2: in thirteen and a half weeks, I can confidently say
- 6:11Speaker 2: that I am better for.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Doing all of that.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And so my question for you this week, my prompt
- 6:20Speaker 2: for you this week is what is something in your
- 6:23Speaker 2: life right now where you would be better for accepting
- 6:28Speaker 2: things as they are instead of wishing that they were
- 6:30Speaker 2: another way?
- 6:32Speaker 1: How can you have a little bit more grace with yourself?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Again, the prompt is, what is something in your life
- 6:37Speaker 2: that you would be better off if you accepted for
- 6:39Speaker 2: how it is right now and met yourself with where
- 6:41Speaker 2: you're at instead of wishing for things to be different?
- 6:45Speaker 2: How can you have some more grace with you? And
- 6:49Speaker 2: now a listener question.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Hi Emily, my name is Trish and I've lived in
- 6:54Speaker 3: New York my entire life, but I think within the
- 6:57Speaker 3: next few years I might want to leave, just so
- 6:59Speaker 3: I could find somewhere that's a little quieter and a
- 7:02Speaker 3: little more affordable. I know you're also a proud New Yorker.
- 7:06Speaker 3: So my question to you is are you New York
- 7:09Speaker 3: or nowhere or do you think you'll settle down in
- 7:12Speaker 3: a different city somewhere and where might that be? Thanks
- 7:16Speaker 3: so much?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Hey, hey, so man, this question a hot topic over
- 7:22Speaker 2: the last few years. Was so many of my dear
- 7:25Speaker 2: dear friends, not you know, living in the area. Me
- 7:29Speaker 2: just getting older thinking about the hope one day to
- 7:34Speaker 2: buy property instead of just spending all of my money
- 7:37Speaker 2: in rent. I love New York, I truly do, and
- 7:43Speaker 2: I see myself being in the area, probably for a
- 7:47Speaker 2: better part of my life. That is not to say
- 7:50Speaker 2: that I'm not open to doing stints in other places,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but I don't see myself as a single, thirty something
- 7:58Speaker 2: woman moving to a new city to start over. New York.
- 8:02Speaker 2: For me, right now, it feels like home. I feel
- 8:05Speaker 2: happy here, and that's what I'm focused on. If I
- 8:09Speaker 2: have a family one day, I could definitely see myself
- 8:13Speaker 2: raising a family somewhere in Brooklyn. Definitely an ideal situation
- 8:18Speaker 2: would be property that has a yard. But I grew
- 8:22Speaker 2: up in Connecticut and I loved having a house in
- 8:25Speaker 2: a really big yard.
- 8:26Speaker 1: So that could be an option too.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I've never been one of those girls that had a
- 8:31Speaker 2: clear outline for what my life would look like when
- 8:35Speaker 2: I got to a certain age, and so I feel
- 8:39Speaker 2: as though I have some priorities, and those priorities don't
- 8:43Speaker 2: necessarily have to do with things like that. My biggest
- 8:47Speaker 2: life priority right now is finding I guess, a lifelong
- 8:52Speaker 2: partner and focusing on that and figuring out the details
- 8:56Speaker 2: that come after that with that person together. So who
- 9:02Speaker 2: a little vulnerability for your Friday. I hope that you
- 9:04Speaker 2: have something enjoyable planned for the holiday weekend. Stay safe
- 9:09Speaker 2: out there, have a good time, and we will be
- 9:13Speaker 2: back in the feed on Tuesday morning, July fifth at
- 9:18Speaker 2: Emily Body at Hurdle Podcast Another Hurdle Conquered.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Catch you guys next time.
