Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, all right, come until your live from Philly.
- 0:09Speaker 1: It's the Folly and Tony Foolsco as always Polly Fosco. Yeah,
- 0:15Speaker 1: with Tony Forcecard. Well, Tony, you're not really in our
- 0:19Speaker 1: studios today. We gotta be honest with the audience. Here.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Tony's grandma Sylvia. She's got a bad foot than Tony
- 0:26Speaker 1: was grafted to take care of her today. So he's
- 0:29Speaker 1: coming to your life, unfortunately from her living room. Yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 1: she won't stop bothering me about how she needs her
- 0:35Speaker 1: foot cream. And I told the lady, wait your turn.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I got a global podcast to record. You can stick
- 0:42Speaker 1: your foot and your cream up your you nowhere. Yeah,
- 0:46Speaker 1: don't worry people, We're not letting her get in the
- 0:48Speaker 1: way of delivering a terrific show with a terrific guest
- 0:52Speaker 1: on like last week with John Ran more like John Borrand,
- 0:59Speaker 1: good one, thank you. Uh, A little backstory on our
- 1:02Speaker 1: guest today. You know, our show is known for two things,
- 1:05Speaker 1: well many things, but two mainly spot on sports takes
- 1:09Speaker 1: and of course investigative journalism. The other day, Tony and
- 1:13Speaker 1: I were looking at the sports ratings and we see
- 1:15Speaker 1: loads for both bowling and soccer, and I look at
- 1:19Speaker 1: Tony and say, wait a moment. Bowling is hugely popular
- 1:23Speaker 1: in our neighborhood. Soccer is big around the world. How
- 1:26Speaker 1: come the ratings aren't bigger. Yeah, we figured there must
- 1:29Speaker 1: be a missing link, you know, like Charles Dickens and
- 1:33Speaker 1: the Apes. Yep, and we dug deep as usual and
- 1:37Speaker 1: found that bowling and soccer have the same announcer. This
- 1:41Speaker 1: guy's name is Rob Stone, and we're gonna have him
- 1:44Speaker 1: on in a few minutes here to ask him how
- 1:46Speaker 1: responsible he feels for ruining these tremendous sports. But before that, people,
- 1:53Speaker 1: there are people out there making so many headlines by
- 1:56Speaker 1: saying the dumbest stuff. So we're gonna do a new
- 1:59Speaker 1: segment on their show called Don't be Dumb, Don't alright.
- 2:06Speaker 1: First one out the gate here, presumptive number one pick,
- 2:10Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence, the top t'll be in the draft, comes
- 2:13Speaker 1: out and says this about football. To Sports Illustrated, he says, quote,
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's not like I need this for my life to
- 2:20Speaker 1: be okay. How disrespectful. Anybody who knows anything about how
- 2:26Speaker 1: to be successful knows your whole life and personal happiness
- 2:30Speaker 1: should completely depend on what you do for a living absolutely, PAULI,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I don't want to see braggadocious, but look at us.
- 2:40Speaker 1: We have had a big time successful career twenty two
- 2:44Speaker 1: years in sports media because we literally don't care about
- 2:47Speaker 1: anything except two things. This show and obviously I will
- 2:53Speaker 1: highly reputable cost stereo business Paully and Tony's cost stereo
- 2:58Speaker 1: hook up and sub woffle repair over at the corner
- 3:01Speaker 1: of dirty fourth Street behind the Wahwan Spruce. That's all
- 3:05Speaker 1: that matters, well, said Tony. And you know Trevor Lawrence
- 3:09Speaker 1: clearly doesn't have his priorities straight. And to make matters worse,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I just saw Trevor Lawrence got married. Oh terrible move.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Terrible timing on the subject that terrible timing. Uh, what's
- 3:24Speaker 1: that I hear in the background. One second, Grandma, keep
- 3:28Speaker 1: it down. We're picking you up on the mica, Grandma,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I'm doing the show. So unprofessional on her part. Anyway,
- 3:37Speaker 1: let's give our advice to someone else who needs to
- 3:40Speaker 1: hear it. Here. Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was on
- 3:45Speaker 1: Colin Coward's new podcast, because obviously that's what everyone needs
- 3:49Speaker 1: is an extra hour of Colin Coward. Anyway, Coward asks
- 3:52Speaker 1: Sanchez to name the best coach he ever had, because
- 3:56Speaker 1: you know, Sanchez played for a billion teams. Here's what
- 3:59Speaker 1: Sanchez said, get a load of this. Well, I think,
- 4:01Speaker 1: just based on time on task, was probably Philly and
- 4:06Speaker 1: coach Kelly. I know, I know there's Philadelphia fans that
- 4:09Speaker 1: would kill me for saying that because they, I mean
- 4:11Speaker 1: hated him by the end. They wanted to run him
- 4:13Speaker 1: out of town. Chip Kelly is the best they had.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Chip Kelly, who sucked with the Eagles, doesn't he remember
- 4:21Speaker 1: that with the Jets he had one of the most
- 4:23Speaker 1: brilliant coaches in NFL history. Of course, I'm talking about
- 4:26Speaker 1: the great Rex Ryan. Yeah, not only what Rex Ryan's
- 4:31Speaker 1: plays good, but he focused on what's most important, making
- 4:36Speaker 1: his press conferences as funny as possible. He told jokes,
- 4:41Speaker 1: one line is war wigs, brought out props, he did
- 4:46Speaker 1: it all, just the real showman. It was like if
- 4:50Speaker 1: an NFL theme could be coached by carrot Top. That's
- 4:54Speaker 1: what made it so great. But clearly Mark Sanchez has
- 4:58Speaker 1: no appreciation for the art of coaching. On the subject
- 5:04Speaker 1: of no appreciation, Tony, what's going on over? You'll keep
- 5:07Speaker 1: it down, you old bag your foot and it's cream.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Can wait. Unbelievable. Let's just move on here. One more thing,
- 5:16Speaker 1: one more comment that we need to react to. Legendary
- 5:20Speaker 1: quarterback in Former Alabama quarterback Joe Namath said that Alabama's
- 5:25Speaker 1: Mac Jones is the best quarterback in the NFL Draft.
- 5:31Speaker 1: The craziest part of the story, Tony, is the blowback
- 5:35Speaker 1: that he's getting for those comments. Everybody knows Alabama is
- 5:40Speaker 1: a quarterback factory, famous for all the good quarterbacks that
- 5:44Speaker 1: have come out there. I mean you can easily name him,
- 5:46Speaker 1: you know, Jalen Hurts, uh Yuta, Uh well, you know,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I mean there are a million. We don't need to
- 5:56Speaker 1: name thousand. Yeah, we could name a hundred more here.
- 5:59Speaker 1: But you know, the point is if Joe Namath said something,
- 6:02Speaker 1: nobody knows quarterbacking better than Joe Namath, He's easily in
- 6:07Speaker 1: the conversation for greatest of all time. Yeah, most people
- 6:11Speaker 1: don't know he has one percent winning percentage in the
- 6:15Speaker 1: Super Bowl. Does Tom Brady have that John Elway Brett
- 6:22Speaker 1: fall off? No? You know, by the way, Tony on
- 6:26Speaker 1: the thing people don't have it's a room. What is
- 6:29Speaker 1: shut up? Can you can you tell us? Our guest
- 6:32Speaker 1: is coming on the line. Grandma, guest is coming on
- 6:34Speaker 1: the line. You better not ruin the guest segment A
- 6:37Speaker 1: real job, all right, Well, hopefully she'll keep it down
- 6:40Speaker 1: because yes, there's our guest. Let's get him on the line.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Here he is on the full SCO Satellite network satellite alright.
- 6:49Speaker 1: This guy is a long time sportscaster. You know him,
- 6:52Speaker 1: You've seen him everywhere. I'm not going to go through
- 6:54Speaker 1: his whole history. That takes too much time. All you
- 6:57Speaker 1: need to know is this guy's on Fox and he
- 7:00Speaker 1: does soccer and bowling. Rob Stone, welcome to the show. Uh,
- 7:05Speaker 1: thank you, Team Philly. How are we doing, boys? You
- 7:07Speaker 1: all right? You good? Yeah? Yeah, good to see you.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Thanks for coming. Are we good? Well? We we have
- 7:12Speaker 1: we you know, we connected the dotsia, big, big, mind
- 7:15Speaker 1: blowing discovery for us. You know, there are two sports
- 7:18Speaker 1: in America right now with terribly low ratings. They're great sports,
- 7:21Speaker 1: bowling and soccer. And you know, we wondered, why is
- 7:24Speaker 1: nobody watching these sports? There's nothing wrong with them, They're terrific.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Then we found out the commonality. They have the same announcer. You. So,
- 7:34Speaker 1: how much responsibility do you personally take for you know,
- 7:37Speaker 1: ruin these wonderful sports, ruining them. Um, I'm hoping I'm
- 7:42Speaker 1: adding to them in some way, shape or form. Um,
- 7:46Speaker 1: Am I really associated with two low rated sports? Come on,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I do. I do college basketball, college football, we do
- 7:51Speaker 1: all right. Now, we're not talking about bowling season. It's
- 7:55Speaker 1: not football season. Soccer team there and Philly, man, you
- 7:58Speaker 1: have one of the best be coming proteins in America
- 8:02Speaker 1: in the Philadelphia Union, right there in your ballpark. And
- 8:04Speaker 1: tell me, tell me, Paulie, how many times have you
- 8:06Speaker 1: been to see the Philadelphia Union play soccer? Well, you
- 8:09Speaker 1: know they want to give me free tickets all the time.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But you know, I'm a busy man, and you know
- 8:13Speaker 1: number two, I'm busy doing my media research to figure
- 8:17Speaker 1: out what's why people aren't watching them. You're focused on
- 8:21Speaker 1: a tendons. Anybody who knows Jack Squad about the media
- 8:25Speaker 1: knows the money is in the TV right now. Look,
- 8:28Speaker 1: come on, Bowling used to be huge. You know that
- 8:31Speaker 1: the biggest telecasts of all time Number one Bowling matches
- 8:35Speaker 1: to final episode of Mash three the day after starring
- 8:39Speaker 1: Mr Jason Robots. But your bowling ratings are so low.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Nielsen doesn't even know how to measure them. Yeah, come on,
- 8:46Speaker 1: come on. Actually, the bowling community shows up weekend and
- 8:49Speaker 1: week out. They even watched the rears. PAULI that we
- 8:53Speaker 1: get huge numbers on FS win and FS two with
- 8:56Speaker 1: our pb A re air. So there there's a community
- 8:59Speaker 1: out there that that loves the sport. And there, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: Chris Schenko, as you mentioned, you know that was the
- 9:05Speaker 1: heyday of bowling, and we're trying to bring it back, man,
- 9:07Speaker 1: trying to bring it back. Actually, I have the number
- 9:11Speaker 1: in front of me. The reair on FS two most
- 9:15Speaker 1: recently scored a Nielsen rating of negative three, which means
- 9:20Speaker 1: three people died out of boredom watching that reair. You
- 9:25Speaker 1: can't have a negative number, man, you can't have a
- 9:28Speaker 1: negative Nielsen number. They're not that cruel. You're living in
- 9:32Speaker 1: denial here. But you know you brought up something interesting,
- 9:34Speaker 1: you know, Chris Schenko right, one of the great soft
- 9:38Speaker 1: calm voices of bowling. You look at yourself, Stone, you allowed,
- 9:45Speaker 1: you're excited. Don't you think you're turning off? You as
- 9:48Speaker 1: with too much excitement that you've got to kind of
- 9:50Speaker 1: tone it down. I will listen, I guarantee you I'm
- 9:56Speaker 1: turning off a certain faction of the bowling audience because
- 9:59Speaker 1: I'm not Krushenko, who um who I admired, and it's done,
- 10:04Speaker 1: you know, just in a wonderful job with the sport
- 10:06Speaker 1: and everything he touched in broadcasting. He was a gold
- 10:08Speaker 1: standard for so long. But I'm not him, man, And
- 10:11Speaker 1: you're right, I'm completely different. And there are plenty people
- 10:14Speaker 1: out there who who don't enjoy my energy and enthusiasm.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But I'd like to think there's a bigger population out
- 10:19Speaker 1: there that actually enjoys what we're bringing a bowling right now,
- 10:23Speaker 1: and it's not a golf sport, it's not golf clapping.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Let's let's bring your signs, let's bring your energy, let's
- 10:29Speaker 1: make some noise, and bowling starting to trend well, you
- 10:31Speaker 1: know yeah, speaking of looking different, you also you don't
- 10:35Speaker 1: look like a guy who hangs out in bowling alleys.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You look like a guy who was on the rowing
- 10:40Speaker 1: team at Duke University. Have you ever considered maybe growing
- 10:45Speaker 1: a bid, gaining thirty pounds, getting a tattoo, maybe show
- 10:49Speaker 1: up in a tank top. Terrific advice. The bird project
- 10:55Speaker 1: that's like a month long project for me. I don't
- 10:57Speaker 1: have that much time for patients. And every time I
- 10:59Speaker 1: try to grow out my beard, eventually at some point
- 11:02Speaker 1: I look at myself in the mirror and goo, you
- 11:04Speaker 1: look ridiculous. Uh. And and as far as putting on
- 11:08Speaker 1: some lvs, now, I don't need to do that for
- 11:10Speaker 1: this bowling community. And they've they've moved on from the
- 11:13Speaker 1: from the the image of a carton of Marlborough's in
- 11:16Speaker 1: a in a case of Milwaukee's best and let's go
- 11:19Speaker 1: to the bowling center. It's a much different approach and
- 11:21Speaker 1: attitude these days. Well, yeah, it shows how out of
- 11:24Speaker 1: touch you are with the bowling community right there. But
- 11:27Speaker 1: you know there's something you can't deny here the view
- 11:31Speaker 1: was and the disgruntlement I should say with you and
- 11:34Speaker 1: these ridiculous you know, these ridiculous sayings, always ridiculous saying
- 11:40Speaker 1: as you came up with it. Yeah, let's go over
- 11:42Speaker 1: a few of these. If our audience, who probably doesn't
- 11:44Speaker 1: watch bowling like most people, here's what you say. On
- 11:47Speaker 1: but a bowler gets four strikes in a row, you say, hambone?
- 11:53Speaker 1: What the hell is that? Hambone? It's four strikes in
- 11:57Speaker 1: a row that you just answer the question, three strikes
- 12:00Speaker 1: in a rows of turkey, So four strikes in a row.
- 12:03Speaker 1: You know, let's kind of keep it in the same
- 12:06Speaker 1: meat type family and let's cry, let's have a handboat.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It still makes no sense to me after that explanation zero.
- 12:14Speaker 1: You know, shouldn't it be something bigger than a turkey? Like,
- 12:20Speaker 1: shouldn't it be like a condor? Hey, it's a condomo there, Um,
- 12:27Speaker 1: that's a thought. Yeah, that's a thought condor. I'll write
- 12:29Speaker 1: that one down. More your nicknames here that I don't get. Uh,
- 12:33Speaker 1: when a guy gets five strikes in a row, you
- 12:36Speaker 1: say yacht sea. Yeah, man, you have five in a row.
- 12:42Speaker 1: That's yatsi. Right, when have you ever played? Have you
- 12:44Speaker 1: ever played yats Pouli? No, I don't play board games.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I'm actually just bored watching your games, That's what I am. Yeah, Paul,
- 12:53Speaker 1: what do you do? What do you do with your downtime? Polly?
- 12:55Speaker 1: I'm confused. You know, first of all, I can see
- 12:59Speaker 1: where you going with this. You're kind of getting the
- 13:01Speaker 1: little personal with the jabs. It's it's a problem. Let
- 13:05Speaker 1: me tell you something, because I understand, as talent in
- 13:08Speaker 1: this business, you're not used to getting negative feedback. You know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: you've probably got all the fox suits telling you how
- 13:13Speaker 1: great you are. We're telling you the truth. If you
- 13:16Speaker 1: use board games in another game, you're confusing your audience.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Keeping in the game. What's twelve in a row battleship?
- 13:24Speaker 1: What is it? Is it? Battleship? What are you? He
- 13:27Speaker 1: got thirteen in a row? Hungry hungry hip? Bo that's
- 13:33Speaker 1: actually not actually not a bad one. All right. So
- 13:36Speaker 1: that's that's the only game or board game I used
- 13:39Speaker 1: for bowling. Hold on one more here, one more that
- 13:42Speaker 1: you came up with. I don't know how ten strikes
- 13:45Speaker 1: in a row? One? This is a good I'm proud
- 13:48Speaker 1: of this one, you say, the bow Derek based on
- 13:52Speaker 1: the ninety nine film ten Uh, the Perfect. I don't
- 13:57Speaker 1: think it's time you maybe update your references, Is you
- 14:00Speaker 1: know something a little more modern? Right, Tony? Yeah? Update
- 14:04Speaker 1: your actresses? Sorry? Mon say yeah, Lnnie Anderson, Kelly lebron Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: someone more Kelly LeBrock, Lnnie Anderson, w k RRP. Weird science.
- 14:18Speaker 1: All right, okay, I'll keep that in mind. All right,
- 14:20Speaker 1: See what helping you now? Now, Brookshie. You know, we
- 14:24Speaker 1: let me just tell you, you know, we told you
- 14:26Speaker 1: about the excitement you're too excited, all right, too loud,
- 14:30Speaker 1: turning off the bowling audience. So we want to do
- 14:32Speaker 1: a little prep with you. Here. Someone just rolled the
- 14:35Speaker 1: game winning strike to win the match. How do you react? Um,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I would say, I would set it up and I'd go,
- 14:46Speaker 1: he's a strike for the win, gets the strike, and
- 14:49Speaker 1: here's your US Open champion. That was too much energy,
- 14:53Speaker 1: too much energy? You can you can you do that again?
- 14:58Speaker 1: All right? Here it is, it's for the US Open.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Here you go. He rolls this go ahead. We're hoping
- 15:06Speaker 1: ten pins will go down. The ball strikes one of them,
- 15:09Speaker 1: they all crumble. Hooray, Congratulations you've won this tournament. Nope, yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: not not good. Still so much it takes away from
- 15:22Speaker 1: the sport. Can you just do it one more time?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Just a little less less? US Open on the line,
- 15:30Speaker 1: bowler rolls, go ball on wood, It rolls, It hits
- 15:38Speaker 1: the pen and oh my gosh, they're all down and
- 15:43Speaker 1: what a moment for this young man to win the
- 15:47Speaker 1: tournament here in Allentown. Congratulations, there you go. Would be
- 15:53Speaker 1: proud of that. You know, by the way, you don't
- 15:57Speaker 1: seem to know much about bowling. Do you actually bowld
- 16:01Speaker 1: I'm not a strong bowler. Uh no, I don't do
- 16:04Speaker 1: a ton of bowling. Yeah, well, what size ball do
- 16:08Speaker 1: you use? Because you know, we use a twenty two pounder,
- 16:11Speaker 1: but you're a twenty two pounder. I'm I'm a little lighter.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I like to I like to get my business going
- 16:16Speaker 1: down lane a little bit faster. I don't have apparently,
- 16:18Speaker 1: I don't have to meat in the muscle like you
- 16:20Speaker 1: guys to throw a twenty two pound Rocky. Once we tried,
- 16:23Speaker 1: you know, a twenty five pound ball, but it broke
- 16:26Speaker 1: the wood in the lane. Was the people said, hey,
- 16:29Speaker 1: you know, hey, PAULI and Tony, we can't do that,
- 16:31Speaker 1: so we have to go down accustomed to what's your
- 16:34Speaker 1: top score in bowling? I honestly have no clue. I
- 16:38Speaker 1: think maybe I broke two hundred at some point I
- 16:41Speaker 1: didn't spend I didn't spend a lot of time on
- 16:43Speaker 1: the sport. Maybe this guy you're commenting on bowling and
- 16:48Speaker 1: you can't even break two hundred. We break three hundred
- 16:52Speaker 1: every day, you know, every day. Take some of the
- 16:54Speaker 1: best coaches weren't the best players, right You making excuses
- 16:58Speaker 1: for yourself? You know what? I think you need to
- 17:00Speaker 1: do in do we do the sport of bowling a favor?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Do it right here on the show and say I
- 17:04Speaker 1: Rob Stone resigned from my position as bowling commentator for
- 17:09Speaker 1: Fox Sports officially here by now go ahead. I don't
- 17:14Speaker 1: think I can do that. You are a disgrace to
- 17:17Speaker 1: the community. But guess what out of this community whole
- 17:21Speaker 1: interview just because you're off the show. Show you're off
- 17:27Speaker 1: the show. Good. Yeah, you're a handbar just a hand
- 17:35Speaker 1: all right, I guess thanks for Jay. Hang up, Hang
- 17:38Speaker 1: off the phone, the damn phone, Jay, Jay, Guys, Jay,
- 17:43Speaker 1: hang up me keep it down. And why you're at it?
- 17:47Speaker 1: Can you hang up on your grandma? Is that Grandma?
- 17:51Speaker 1: One more pee? And it's off to the senior home. Yeah? Well,
- 17:55Speaker 1: we got business to do. Tell a business to do
- 17:58Speaker 1: because you know, at this point in the show, we
- 18:01Speaker 1: always have some premier and space for a terrific company,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and that's no exception today because we're gonna do an
- 18:07Speaker 1: ad for one of the big names in bowling, Storm
- 18:11Speaker 1: Bowling Balls. Let's face it, men, when you go bowling, yeah,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you may want to bowl a perfect pretty like we
- 18:19Speaker 1: do all the time, but what you really want to
- 18:21Speaker 1: do is impressed the ladies. Any woman knows that a
- 18:25Speaker 1: man should be measured by the size of his balls.
- 18:28Speaker 1: And if you really want to impress the ladies, you
- 18:31Speaker 1: gotta use Storms Magnum edition pound balls. Tony. Tell them
- 18:38Speaker 1: about one of the hot dates you had at the
- 18:40Speaker 1: local bowling alley recently. Yeah, I took this girl and
- 18:45Speaker 1: met at the corner store to the bowling alley on Spruce.
- 18:49Speaker 1: We rented a lane and then she said to me,
- 18:53Speaker 1: aren't you gonna pick out a ball from the rack,
- 18:56Speaker 1: maybe a sixteen pounder, And I said, please, honey, put
- 19:01Speaker 1: that toy away. I'm bringing in the big guns, the
- 19:06Speaker 1: magnum and she said, wow, twenty five pounds. It's so
- 19:12Speaker 1: big you can bowl with that. And I just turned
- 19:17Speaker 1: and I threw it down the lane and broke all
- 19:20Speaker 1: the pins and the hearts because it was so impressive.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And next thing you know, we were getting kicked out
- 19:29Speaker 1: of the bowling alley, but not for breaking the pins,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but for having sex under the pool table. What a
