- 5:17Speaker 1: Hi.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Hello, Hello, Hello, my fellow, what m poet tests? How
- 5:25Speaker 4: are you?
- 5:28Speaker 1: I'm good so Marris good, well.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Roses you can be.
- 5:35Speaker 6: I'm doing good as well. I'm doing good, excited.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Okay, I'm glad you guys are here with me too.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Help me start my inaugural podcast. So we'll start with
- 5:51Speaker 5: ladies first. If you don't mind, could you just give
- 5:53Speaker 5: us a little background and we'll go from Roses to me,
- 5:57Speaker 5: from a Phoenix Sapphire to Roses. Just give a little
- 6:02Speaker 5: bio and a background about you, so I audience will
- 6:05Speaker 5: know a little bit about you.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So I am Sapphire, Phoenix Sapphire. I am a poet
- 6:12Speaker 1: and an entrepreneur. My first poem was published back when
- 6:16Speaker 1: I was thirteen and did a what is it a contest? Sorry,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I got a little nervous. I don't know when it
- 6:26Speaker 1: comes to my poetry, and I have a poem I'm
- 6:28Speaker 1: gonna share if opportunity arises that talks about my nervousness
- 6:35Speaker 1: and my nerves when it comes to my poetry and
- 6:37Speaker 1: the vulnerability of writing poetry. So just I work with
- 6:42Speaker 1: artists in the city, and that's really all I want
- 6:47Speaker 1: to say about me. Let's move on to Roses. Okay,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you had a floor, Roses.
- 6:55Speaker 2: All right.
- 6:56Speaker 6: My name is Roses.
- 6:57Speaker 7: I'm the founder and CEO of Sculptor Roses Company. So
- 7:02Speaker 7: I'm a business owner and I'm also the chapter leader
- 7:06Speaker 7: of Texas for the Poetry Business Network, and I'm an author.
- 7:10Speaker 7: I'm a writer, an artist, and a lover of cinema
- 7:18Speaker 7: and fashion, and I try to kind of dip my
- 7:22Speaker 7: hands into different areas and pots and kind of diversify
- 7:28Speaker 7: with what's best for my brand and who I am.
- 7:34Speaker 7: I can definitely relate to you of Phoenix. I'm very
- 7:38Speaker 7: much an introvert, but I felt called to the stage
- 7:44Speaker 7: as a way to kind of share my testimony and story,
- 7:47Speaker 7: and so.
- 7:48Speaker 6: Against what I like to do, I usually.
- 7:51Speaker 7: Go up and get on stage and share some poetry
- 7:54Speaker 7: and be vulnerable and.
- 7:56Speaker 5: So and that the hardest part of being a poet,
- 8:02Speaker 5: because I think a lot of us are kind of
- 8:05Speaker 5: you know, I can't say for myself.
- 8:07Speaker 4: I'm introverted, but I'm introvert extrovert, And the thing.
- 8:13Speaker 5: About being a poet, we have to be vulnerable, right,
- 8:16Speaker 5: So I'm gonna ask you, guys, so how do you
- 8:19Speaker 5: handle the privacy, you know, balancing being private and vulnerable.
- 8:26Speaker 1: When putting your poetry out there. Well, in my poetry,
- 8:35Speaker 1: I don't care about vulnerability. It doesn't matter when I'm
- 8:38Speaker 1: speaking to someone and there's not one hundred eyes or
- 8:43Speaker 1: even twenty eyes on me. It flows easy. When I
- 8:48Speaker 1: feel a lot of people are going to judge what
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm going to say, or I've had poems that I've
- 8:57Speaker 1: written because I speak a lot about consciousness. We're friends
- 9:01Speaker 1: of like, you know, this isn't the right environment to
- 9:06Speaker 1: speak about that, And so it's one of those things
- 9:10Speaker 1: where you just have to be free to be yourself
- 9:12Speaker 1: and flow in who you are and just be what
- 9:17Speaker 1: let it be what it is.
- 9:21Speaker 7: Right about you Roses, I definitely agree with that, and
- 9:25Speaker 7: I would say when I'm on the stage writing poetry,
- 9:30Speaker 7: it's the one place I can truly be myself and
- 9:34Speaker 7: be one hundred percent vulnerable to the best of my ability,
- 9:37Speaker 7: and I try to challenge myself.
- 9:39Speaker 6: If there's something.
- 9:41Speaker 7: That comes to my mind or when i'm writing that
- 9:43Speaker 7: I feel like I don't know if I want to
- 9:45Speaker 7: share that, I try to push myself to share it
- 9:50Speaker 7: because I want to be one hundred percent genuine and
- 9:53Speaker 7: I want to.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Share my story.
- 9:57Speaker 7: And because also you never know who else is going
- 10:02Speaker 7: through the same thing that.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Is still silent and they're not able to say it.
- 10:06Speaker 7: So if I can say it and it can help
- 10:09Speaker 7: someone else, all the more reason to share it. But
- 10:14Speaker 7: if it's not poetry, I'm I'm a closed door pretty
- 10:19Speaker 7: much unless i'm unless you're close to me and you're
- 10:24Speaker 7: in my little circle, then I'll share some stuff here
- 10:27Speaker 7: and there. But outside of poetry, I'm pretty shut.
- 10:38Speaker 1: My truth easily going in those words that I wrote,
- 10:44Speaker 1: because I'll mainly write when I'm going through something or
- 10:48Speaker 1: something sits on my spirit really strong, I'll go and
- 10:51Speaker 1: I'll pour it out on paper. So as I was
- 10:53Speaker 1: growing up writing from being back in middle school, it
- 10:58Speaker 1: was something that was just for me. I would write
- 11:01Speaker 1: it and I would leave it there. So as my
- 11:04Speaker 1: words and connecting with people started to resonate, and I
- 11:09Speaker 1: did my poetry for a couple of friends here and
- 11:12Speaker 1: there and they say, oh, you need to get on stage,
- 11:14Speaker 1: you need to share that. It just gives me the
- 11:17Speaker 1: chills when I do it, and so I'm still very
- 11:20Speaker 1: nervous about it.
- 11:21Speaker 4: So it's the opposite for me.
- 11:23Speaker 1: I can share, but getting up there and reading those words,
- 11:26Speaker 1: it feels it's so close to my heart that it's
- 11:30Speaker 1: difficult at times. Yeah, it's nerve wracking your first time
- 11:35Speaker 1: doing it, but you have to be authentic to yourself because,
- 11:40Speaker 1: like Roses pointed out, which was a very valid point,
- 11:43Speaker 1: is you give voice to people who may not have
- 11:46Speaker 1: a courage to give voice, or who may not can
- 11:49Speaker 1: articulate what.
- 11:49Speaker 4: They want to say. Right Like you say, Phoenix, I write.
- 11:55Speaker 5: I find myself writing at times when I'm emotional experiencing
- 12:00Speaker 5: something and it just comes. I don't know how you
- 12:03Speaker 5: guys get your inspiration, but it's like when mind comes
- 12:07Speaker 5: in ways, I have to stop whatever I'm doing wherever
- 12:10Speaker 5: I'm at and just write, even if it's not a
- 12:13Speaker 5: complete poem. Do you guys find yourself experiencing that where
- 12:17Speaker 5: you just had the right to get your words out,
- 12:20Speaker 5: to get those thoughts out before you lose them to
- 12:23Speaker 5: the universe.
- 12:25Speaker 6: I definitely, yes, yes, most definitely.
- 12:30Speaker 7: I have multiple categorized notes for writing. I have small
- 12:38Speaker 7: notebooks that I keep on hand because I like to
- 12:41Speaker 7: handwrite stuff too, in my pocket, and so I'm always
- 12:44Speaker 7: stuff will just come.
- 12:45Speaker 6: And I got to jot it down.
- 12:47Speaker 7: And there's been plenty of times where I say, okay,
- 12:50Speaker 7: I'll remember it and usually don't and then I'm mad
- 12:53Speaker 7: at myself. So yes, you got to write it down
- 12:56Speaker 7: right away.
- 12:59Speaker 4: I forgot the most important question. What are you guys? Genre?
- 13:03Speaker 4: What do you write about? What is your main genre?
- 13:08Speaker 4: And how did you get your stage name? That's something
- 13:11Speaker 4: yet I have to find.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Okay, you want me to go first, ladies first. So
- 13:23Speaker 1: Sapphire was first. He came from. I was going through
- 13:27Speaker 1: a divorce and everything, and I didn't want My mom
- 13:30Speaker 1: was like, keep your kid's last name. But I was
- 13:34Speaker 1: at a place where I was being renewed and I
- 13:36Speaker 1: didn't want that last name, and I was just looking
- 13:38Speaker 1: for something else to call myself. I started calling myself
- 13:42Speaker 1: Amper Sapphire that time, Phoenix. My kids, we were going
- 13:50Speaker 1: through a lot, and.
- 13:53Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 13:54Speaker 1: They called me on the phone and they were telling
- 13:56Speaker 1: me something that happened, and I said, I felt like
- 14:00Speaker 1: we were overcoming so many things back to back, and
- 14:03Speaker 1: I was like, I feel like there's fire flowing through
- 14:06Speaker 1: my veins. And my daughters were like, they called me phoenix,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and their friends started calling me phoenix, and that's where
- 14:13Speaker 1: Phoenix Thathire came from.
- 14:16Speaker 4: You know, I want a phoenix. You know I love
- 14:18Speaker 4: a phoenix. It's close to my heart.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's rising from the ashes, and you know, as
- 14:24Speaker 1: I'm elevated, I kind of don't go by that name
- 14:28Speaker 1: so much anymore, but it is how people know me.
- 14:32Speaker 1: But I got used to standing in those ashes and
- 14:35Speaker 1: that fire, and I don't care if anything's burned down.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'd rather be sad today so that I can be
- 14:41Speaker 1: peaceful tomorrow. And I want to face things. And I
- 14:46Speaker 1: have this strength that I don't think a lot of
- 14:48Speaker 1: people are used to. So I don't want to stand
- 14:52Speaker 1: in ashes. I don't want to burn things down. But
- 14:55Speaker 1: the rising, you get addicted to the pain, or the
- 14:58Speaker 1: rather the ability to overcome pain, right, and I'll stop there.
- 15:06Speaker 1: In my genre of poetry, I really don't think that
- 15:11Speaker 1: I would say that I flow towards consciousness, but I
- 15:14Speaker 1: don't know what genre that would fall in or the
- 15:18Speaker 1: right way to say it. But awakening, is that.
- 15:23Speaker 4: A genre consciousness? Spiritually aware? Yeah?
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, okay, so that would be mine?
- 15:33Speaker 3: All right, okays, I hear your name.
- 15:39Speaker 6: So I got my name.
- 15:42Speaker 7: Uh So I love the artistic side of me, loves
- 15:46Speaker 7: floor open and flowers, anything like that. My favorite is
- 15:50Speaker 7: a rose, and so I've always collected rose stuff. As
- 15:55Speaker 7: you can see my shirt, it's got roses all over it.
- 15:58Speaker 7: I got roses behind me. Anything that has roses, I'm
- 16:02Speaker 7: going to get it in because they don't make a
- 16:06Speaker 7: lot of rose stuff for guys.
- 16:07Speaker 6: So if I find it in my size, especially, I'm
- 16:10Speaker 6: going to get it.
- 16:11Speaker 7: But when I used to go by the name PostScript
- 16:16Speaker 7: for all my poetry, and that's where the PS comes from,
- 16:21Speaker 7: which is my signature ending for every poem.
- 16:25Speaker 6: I ended in the PS.
- 16:26Speaker 7: And when I created my business, I wanted something that
- 16:31Speaker 7: can encompass the umbrella of all my different passions, so art, life,
- 16:40Speaker 7: coaching and writing and public speaking and anything else. And
- 16:45Speaker 7: so when I was trying to come up with new name,
- 16:51Speaker 7: creative name. Roses was definitely one of the top picks
- 16:56Speaker 7: for me. And I'll never forget this. I was kind
- 17:00Speaker 7: of like praying about it and talking to God on.
- 17:03Speaker 6: What I should do.
- 17:05Speaker 7: And I was out serving in the community and we
- 17:08Speaker 7: were giving.
- 17:09Speaker 6: Food away and in front of me was this.
- 17:20Speaker 7: Little thing of cupcakes and there are seven cupcakes in there,
- 17:25Speaker 7: and seven is the number of completion. And I had
- 17:28Speaker 7: seven in my head a lot during that time and season,
- 17:33Speaker 7: and the top of the cupcakes looked like roses, and
- 17:37Speaker 7: so I was like, Ah, there it is.
- 17:40Speaker 6: That's what it's going to be.
- 17:41Speaker 7: And so I go by Roses and then my business
- 17:45Speaker 7: is called Sculpe through Roses Company, and that's how that
- 17:47Speaker 7: kind of just all meshed together. But I love Roses
- 17:51Speaker 7: and so it only it felt natural.
- 17:54Speaker 6: And I guess for genre, I write a.
- 17:58Speaker 7: Lot about faith, mental health, and romance, all right, the
- 18:05Speaker 7: most about romance.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Romance.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Yes, I've heard your I've had the privilege for those
- 18:15Speaker 5: who are watching you, I've had the privilege to to
- 18:18Speaker 5: see Roses. We were in those Foscars together, which in
- 18:22Speaker 5: Dallas is like the spoken Oscars.
- 18:24Speaker 4: And I've also.
- 18:26Speaker 5: Watched him performer I've also had the privilege of seeing
- 18:29Speaker 5: Phoenix Sapphire performed awesome, awesome. Now we are gonna let
- 18:33Speaker 5: them bless us with some poetry in a little bit
- 18:36Speaker 5: while we you know, we just we just kicking back
- 18:39Speaker 5: and just talking about our poetry right now and being
- 18:42Speaker 5: a poet and some of the some of the I
- 18:45Speaker 5: guess not obstacles, but it's also victories and being a poet.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I guess my next question would be, like everyone, when
- 18:56Speaker 5: you have blocks, how do you what do you do
- 18:58Speaker 5: to restart? Because we all go through times and we
- 19:02Speaker 5: have writer's blox, that's what it is. Are your creative
- 19:07Speaker 5: decifle because something's going on in your life? How do you, guys, reset, rejuvenate, restart.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I guess it would just be energy, is how I
- 19:21Speaker 1: would answer. It took me a long time to start
- 19:26Speaker 1: back writing poetry when a lot of what I had
- 19:29Speaker 1: written was destroyed. So I still will go through moments
- 19:33Speaker 1: of writer's block, but I write what comes to me.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I don't force it. So if I'm in a season
- 19:41Speaker 1: where I'm not writing too much, then I'm okay with that,
- 19:45Speaker 1: and then I'll have, like you said earlier, like the
- 19:47Speaker 1: little pieces of things that I'll go back to when
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm in that energy and it'll just be little notes
- 19:53Speaker 1: in my phone or my notebooks.
- 20:01Speaker 7: I think for me, in order to reset, I go
- 20:08Speaker 7: to my first I isolate because I'm an introvert, so
- 20:12Speaker 7: I have to get time alone to think, process and reset,
- 20:18Speaker 7: and so I'll do that by going to the movies
- 20:21Speaker 7: because I love watching movies and it's also a place
- 20:24Speaker 7: where I draw inspiration. Or I like to walk around
- 20:28Speaker 7: the mall and shop or Windows shop and I'll just
- 20:33Speaker 7: open up my notes app listening to the music and
- 20:37Speaker 7: I'll try to go through some stuff that I started
- 20:40Speaker 7: and see what catches my mind and kind of continue
- 20:45Speaker 7: on from there. And I also like going to art
- 20:50Speaker 7: museums as an artist. I love just kind of decompressing
- 20:57Speaker 7: into the world of another artist and trying to figure
- 21:03Speaker 7: out what they were trying to say within the piece
- 21:06Speaker 7: that they created, and just noticing the different techniques and details.
- 21:13Speaker 7: It really puts me in on it. It's a big
- 21:17Speaker 7: reset button for me, and so I would say those
- 21:20Speaker 7: two definitely.
- 21:23Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of like me I have when I'm
- 21:29Speaker 5: facing a huge writer's block, which I went through recently.
- 21:32Speaker 5: I guess back in the fall. I have I have
- 21:35Speaker 5: to I have to disassociate. I just have to unplug
- 21:39Speaker 5: and just have complete silence and quiet, because you know
- 21:43Speaker 5: your mind, it's like a mini computer. And so that's
- 21:47Speaker 5: how I reset now shopping, I'm.
- 21:49Speaker 4: With you on that, Roses, but I think I have
- 21:52Speaker 4: a problem.
- 21:54Speaker 5: I'm with you on reset reset on that.
- 22:02Speaker 4: But yeah, writing, writing is something else.
- 22:07Speaker 5: And I know both of you guys have worked on books,
- 22:11Speaker 5: and for me, that kind of made me shut down
- 22:14Speaker 5: when it gotten it.
- 22:15Speaker 4: After I'm done the editing.
- 22:17Speaker 5: Process, that is my least favorite part of writing.
- 22:22Speaker 4: What about you all? The editing?
- 22:25Speaker 1: Lord, I'm still in that process. So I just finished
- 22:29Speaker 1: my book not too long ago, so it's still in
- 22:32Speaker 1: the process of being edited and getting ready to go.
- 22:36Speaker 1: So I'm not enjoying it that much. But it's okay.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Please tell us the name of your book.
- 22:44Speaker 1: It's Awakening to Reality, okay.
- 22:49Speaker 4: And your poems? Wait, do you have some of your
- 22:52Speaker 4: poetry from the book?
- 22:55Speaker 1: I have it on my phone. Why do you want
- 23:02Speaker 1: me to read right now? Are you putting me on
- 23:06Speaker 1: the spot?
- 23:08Speaker 4: I might be putting. I'm putting you. You're gonna be
- 23:10Speaker 4: put on the spot twice.
- 23:12Speaker 3: But yeah, if you want to pull one up, and
- 23:14Speaker 3: then we can go to Roses so he can answer
- 23:17Speaker 3: the question too about the editing, because, like I.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Said, that's not my favorite part.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Okay, hold on closed.
- 23:25Speaker 5: And I'm sorry if my editors on here because normal
- 23:27Speaker 5: as she watches, you know, I don't like that part.
- 23:30Speaker 4: That's like having a baby to me. You're right there, Roses, Yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 7: I completely agree. I strongly dislike editing. And I was
- 23:45Speaker 7: about to say hey, but I was like, let me not.
- 23:47Speaker 7: I'm not gonna say hey, but I strongly dislike editing.
- 23:49Speaker 7: It's by far my least favorite part, and I have
- 23:55Speaker 7: I want nothing to do with it.
- 23:56Speaker 6: I just want to write. I want to get my
- 23:58Speaker 6: thoughts out there.
- 23:59Speaker 7: I want to have it organized and broken up the
- 24:03Speaker 7: way I want to and then maybe add some art
- 24:05Speaker 7: here and there, and then I.
- 24:06Speaker 6: Just want to push the editing to the side for
- 24:09Speaker 6: someone else.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Right, that's the I think that's with all the creators, right,
- 24:15Speaker 5: we're like, why we have to why we have to
- 24:17Speaker 5: do this part? Because that that's my fight every time
- 24:22Speaker 5: with my editor Joy, because I'm like, don't, don't, don't
- 24:25Speaker 5: move those dots, because you know, you know, we don't
- 24:28Speaker 5: have to be so formal when we write poetry and
- 24:31Speaker 5: pros right, I'm like, I know what.
- 24:34Speaker 4: I'm thinking and I know what I wrote.
- 24:37Speaker 5: And when you when I do dot dot, that means
- 24:39Speaker 5: I'm continuing my thought.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Because God has a meaning.
- 24:47Speaker 8: Editors that's not tired, like, what what is this? God?
- 24:53Speaker 4: God has a meaning?
- 24:55Speaker 3: See joy if you're watching it, Yeah, it has a.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Oh gosh.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So just one that I'll do as part of my book.
- 25:12Speaker 1: And I'm gonna do this one because I swear when
- 25:14Speaker 1: I talk I can do so much. And let me
- 25:17Speaker 1: just say, because I love working with artists. Originally I
- 25:20Speaker 1: wanted to be in the background of everything. I never
- 25:26Speaker 1: wanted to be a face of in something about doing
- 25:31Speaker 1: my poetry. So the poem I'm gonna do is entitled
- 25:33Speaker 1: Breathe because I swear when it has something to do
- 25:37Speaker 1: with my poetry, I have a hard time breathing. My
- 25:40Speaker 1: breath gets a little short. But I give all thanks
- 25:44Speaker 1: to the Almighty. I really do that he enabled me.
- 25:49Speaker 1: So this is entitled Breathe. Breathe life into me through me,
- 25:57Speaker 1: use me that eternally I'm be a motivating factor to
- 26:02Speaker 1: those who hear and do not fear the power of mind,
- 26:06Speaker 1: holding magic and tongue, thinking to myself, Sapphire, you've waited
- 26:10Speaker 1: too long, still holding onto dreams. Every time I pick
- 26:15Speaker 1: up a microphone to speak, the moisture from my lips
- 26:18Speaker 1: leaves me, and you may see me standing here. But mentally,
- 26:21Speaker 1: I've already fallen to my knees and deemed this being unworthy.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Yet and still I am begging the divine to continue
- 26:28Speaker 1: to teach me, mold me, move me, that I may
- 26:31Speaker 1: uniquely be intrigued by satisfying my own destiny. Worst enemy
- 26:36Speaker 1: kept close to me. I see her in my reflection,
- 26:39Speaker 1: looking back every day as I pain on my mask,
- 26:43Speaker 1: and each seeming similar to the last. But see, I've
- 26:47Speaker 1: understand that time is moving much too fast not to
- 26:50Speaker 1: consider the simplicity of a conscious reality emotionally regaining possession
- 26:56Speaker 1: of grace, which by definition meaning simple elegance or refinement
- 27:01Speaker 1: of movement as almighty, be mighty and continue to move me,
- 27:05Speaker 1: mold me, teach me, use me, breathing life into me eternally.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 27:18Speaker 1: O good, Yeah, thank.
- 27:21Speaker 4: You, that was beautiful, Thank you so much.
- 27:25Speaker 5: And Net explained what you were talking about when we
- 27:28Speaker 5: first open.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's every time and remember when we did
- 27:32Speaker 1: it the show in Richardson. I don't know what it is,
- 27:36Speaker 1: but you know, I do need more practice. I have
- 27:40Speaker 1: focused a lot of my attention on other people and
- 27:44Speaker 1: other things in the city and creating and you know,
- 27:49Speaker 1: doing events and stuff like that. That the time that
- 27:52Speaker 1: I've taken from December to now and actually focusing on
- 27:56Speaker 1: my book and what I want to accomplish is you know,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'll be out there performing more very soon.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Yes, please do. And baby girl, you don't need no
- 28:07Speaker 5: more practice. You just need to.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Do I know, thank you do it?
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yes action wait, no you roses.
- 28:22Speaker 7: Okay, I'm going to share my most recent poem I
- 28:29Speaker 7: just finish, and it entitled brand new Beginnings. The first
- 28:42Speaker 7: book of the Bible is Genesis, and last.
- 28:46Speaker 6: The last thought I had gave me a revelation. When
- 28:50Speaker 6: you think of.
- 28:50Speaker 7: New beginnings, you smell the tears of a fresh coat
- 28:53Speaker 7: of paint. Some might even say brand new beginnings feel
- 28:57Speaker 7: like midnight after New Year Eve, a painter's palette of
- 29:02Speaker 7: fireworks explodes with hope that has never felt disappointment. Brand
- 29:07Speaker 7: New Beginnings remind me of the candle musk of a
- 29:13Speaker 7: new book with pages that haven't stepped into the footprints
- 29:17Speaker 7: of crow's feet. However, sometimes brand new beginnings seem to
- 29:23Speaker 7: be the alarm clock for my anxiety that reminds me
- 29:27Speaker 7: of how much I prefer the sanctuary of solitude. I
- 29:33Speaker 7: like to say I'm a full time loaner, but never alone.
- 29:37Speaker 6: I part time friends all live in a bookstore off
- 29:41Speaker 6: Fifth Ave.
- 29:42Speaker 7: We usually meet up there like every other Saturday, to
- 29:47Speaker 7: discuss dreams that don't get enough sleep, love that is misunderstood,
- 29:53Speaker 7: and a hope that matches Casper. I usually dress down,
- 29:57Speaker 7: but on the weekend escapades, my favorite red colors are
- 30:01Speaker 7: stitched within my essence and bleed through my accessories, dripping
- 30:06Speaker 7: onto the array of paths.
- 30:10Speaker 6: I could choose.
- 30:13Speaker 7: Book number one, entitled Red Receipts grab me first, jumping
- 30:19Speaker 7: into the corner of my peripheral as if it was
- 30:22Speaker 7: stopping and just waiting for my bus at the edge
- 30:30Speaker 7: of the street. Fifth av can get busy, almost as
- 30:34Speaker 7: busy as the business in my mind. Over time is
- 30:37Speaker 7: embedded in my pillow, so I flex my hours by
- 30:41Speaker 7: taking cat naps under the covers of desired categories and
- 30:47Speaker 7: let the gravity of the hours just floats away. I
- 30:52Speaker 7: love to let time watch me for a change and
- 30:56Speaker 7: get lost in the poetry of stone cars, stories bound
- 31:01Speaker 7: by the commandments of passion, red receipts.
- 31:05Speaker 6: Things have been a little rocky.
- 31:07Speaker 7: Since our last date, and you still haven't replied to
- 31:11Speaker 7: my text. I know you need to be watered and
- 31:15Speaker 7: read and protected and comforted, but I have been stuck
- 31:20Speaker 7: on the same chapter for more than a few days.
- 31:22Speaker 7: They say, just start something else, but I'm not the
- 31:28Speaker 7: type to go book hopping. I've typed a couple of
- 31:31Speaker 7: books enough to know they have feelings too.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Yes, I want you to come to I.
- 31:36Speaker 7: Can't stand the thought of our porcelain being broken up.
- 31:40Speaker 6: I promise I'll read more between the lines of your life.
- 31:43Speaker 6: Just promise me. It's not too late.
- 31:47Speaker 7: Late fees are never in the budget, and I don't
- 31:50Speaker 7: want to budge for someone else to get what my
- 31:53Speaker 7: heart will die for.
- 31:54Speaker 6: But sometimes forever ends before the end.
- 31:58Speaker 7: Book number two title the Music of a Muse, and
- 32:01Speaker 7: it interrupts what we have going on. Cheating isn't as
- 32:05Speaker 7: off putting as it used to be. Please forgive me.
- 32:08Speaker 7: I told myself I'd never be that guy, but I
- 32:12Speaker 7: just got to see what's inside. So I walked inside
- 32:15Speaker 7: the walls of pages as her song scribbled across my
- 32:20Speaker 7: guitar heartstrings. I love the conversations you pick that don't
- 32:25Speaker 7: need words. I want to read your book and your
- 32:29Speaker 7: blank spaces, just so I can feel what space is like.
- 32:34Speaker 7: How do you make earth have no gravity? I want
- 32:39Speaker 7: to read the braille of your goosebumps, and I want
- 32:47Speaker 7: to feel every inch of everything thoughts moving too fast
- 32:50Speaker 7: to see. All this transpired within half of blank eyes open,
- 32:55Speaker 7: and she was just sitting there, glowing.
- 33:01Speaker 6: The music of a.
- 33:02Speaker 7: Muse has a hug that scratches, like an old vinyl
- 33:07Speaker 7: that only plays on the second try.
- 33:09Speaker 6: Now I'm confused.
- 33:10Speaker 7: Do I really want a second chance or just another chance?
- 33:14Speaker 7: That LUs self love is a must? Leash you rots
- 33:18Speaker 7: in the rust of forgotten titles. I really don't believe
- 33:22Speaker 7: in titles. But there's this girl, the same girl, coming
- 33:29Speaker 7: up in different titles of these poems.
- 33:32Speaker 6: Attention. The library closes in ten minutes. Where did the
- 33:38Speaker 6: time go?
- 33:38Speaker 7: I always get lost behind your eyes?
- 33:41Speaker 6: This is goodbye?
- 33:44Speaker 7: Ps, never mind, I'll just bring both books with me.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Now you know what, both of y'all now didn't even
- 34:00Speaker 5: want to read my poetry both tremendous. Now roses, I
- 34:08Speaker 5: have to ask what inspired that? Because you said you
- 34:10Speaker 5: just wrote it.
- 34:12Speaker 6: I did, so I got inspired.
- 34:15Speaker 7: I just competed in the Texas Storytelling Festival, and the
- 34:22Speaker 7: prompt for the storytelling slam was brand new Beginnings, and
- 34:27Speaker 7: so I.
- 34:29Speaker 6: Was trying to put a little twist on it.
- 34:31Speaker 7: And of course I always come at things most of
- 34:36Speaker 7: the time from a romantic or romance perspective, and so
- 34:43Speaker 7: the line about where I talked about the crows feet
- 34:47Speaker 7: and like the middle of the poem is where I started,
- 34:52Speaker 7: and then I kind of like added everything around it
- 34:54Speaker 7: and kind of just shaped and flowed and I wrote it.
- 34:59Speaker 6: I wrote it pretty quickly. I wrote it in like
- 35:01Speaker 6: a couple of hours.
- 35:02Speaker 7: Usually if I'm like really inspired, I can knock something out.
- 35:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean yeah. I always always like, of course,
- 35:15Speaker 5: I'm gonna keep giving both of you guys accolades. I
- 35:19Speaker 5: like both of you guys poetry so much. But and
- 35:23Speaker 5: that that brings me to another thing, because you said slam. See,
- 35:27Speaker 5: people who aren't new to poetry, there's different versions of poetry.
- 35:33Speaker 5: You can be a slam poet, a spoken word poet.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I'm thinking of another.
- 35:40Speaker 5: One, a prose poet. So what do you consider yourself
- 35:44Speaker 5: more of because to me, slam is slam is.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Is very performative. To me, you have to perform in Yeah,
- 35:56Speaker 4: I'm trying to put a word do. You have to
- 35:58Speaker 4: be very performative. It's very very emotional.
- 36:01Speaker 5: It draws a lot of emotion because like if anybody
- 36:05Speaker 5: watched Deaf Poet Jam, remember that those are a lot
- 36:09Speaker 5: of poets on there. Myself, I'm more of a spoken
- 36:15Speaker 5: word so.
- 36:15Speaker 4: I guess I'm more down the letter. I'm more you
- 36:22Speaker 4: paint it.
- 36:24Speaker 1: I would say I'm a spoken word poet. Definitely not
- 36:26Speaker 1: a slam for that, but yeah, definitely spoken word.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just yeah.
- 36:34Speaker 6: I'm trying to I completely agree with y'all.
- 36:37Speaker 7: I'm definitely more of a prose and spoken word poet.
- 36:42Speaker 7: I did that slam competition as a challenge to myself.
- 36:48Speaker 7: It was on my birthday, and so I was like this,
- 36:51Speaker 7: this seems like a cool thing to do, and uh,
- 36:54Speaker 7: and it was fun. I enjoyed it, but I definitely
- 36:57Speaker 7: don't consider myself a slam poet at all, and so
- 37:01Speaker 7: I just wanted to get out there try it and
- 37:04Speaker 7: it's a good way to practice and keep things moving.
- 37:10Speaker 5: You want to know why, let may be very honest,
- 37:13Speaker 5: why I can't be a slam poet.
- 37:14Speaker 4: It's my memory I might remember.
- 37:20Speaker 5: I don't think I can, uh, And I shouldn't say
- 37:24Speaker 5: can't because I probably can. I just don't want to
- 37:27Speaker 5: stress this muscle to remember things. I do have some
- 37:33Speaker 5: poems memorized, but I literally have to practice like an East,
- 37:36Speaker 5: like when you're getting ready for Easter when you're a
- 37:39Speaker 5: kid and prepare for your for.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Your Easter poem.
- 37:42Speaker 5: That's me before before I have to perform anything memorized.
- 37:48Speaker 4: I guess I put it like that that you phoenix.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I can memorize it, but like I was performing at
- 37:57Speaker 1: Maverick's first show we had with DFW Music, and there
- 38:02Speaker 1: were a good like one hundred people in there, and
- 38:04Speaker 1: one person at the front looked me in the eyes.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I lost all my words. So even if I have it,
- 38:11Speaker 1: sometimes I'll get ahead of myself when I'm performing because
- 38:17Speaker 1: it makes me emotional. I can I feel so much
- 38:20Speaker 1: and with people you know, so I don't know, I yeah, yeah,
- 38:26Speaker 1: I can remember it in that moment.
- 38:31Speaker 3: Well, I ain't gonna speak my age that could be
- 38:33Speaker 3: why I have a heart to know. I can remember something.
- 38:38Speaker 5: I wrote a short poem today because it was just
- 38:41Speaker 5: something that came to me.
- 38:43Speaker 4: It's not it's a short poem. We're gonna do another round.
- 38:46Speaker 4: It's ky reflection normally I do.
- 38:51Speaker 5: I'm on a romance relationship poetry, So this is kind
- 38:54Speaker 5: of kind of different. It says, when you look in
- 38:58Speaker 5: the mirror, do you like what you see? I know
- 39:01Speaker 5: if you look at me, people see different pieces of me.
- 39:06Speaker 5: See what you see is a direct reflection of you,
- 39:10Speaker 5: and the energy is directed back at you. To some
- 39:15Speaker 5: I'm the quietest, nicest person you may know. To others,
- 39:19Speaker 5: I'm a file, heartless minute that walks around. This again,
- 39:25Speaker 5: is a reflection of you floating back through me. Everything
- 39:29Speaker 5: is energy reflect at times too. So if you see
- 39:32Speaker 5: something you don't like in me, turn the mirror and
- 39:35Speaker 5: take the reflection and see you.
- 39:38Speaker 1: So, yes, ma'am.
- 39:44Speaker 4: I wrote that in the middle of driving.
- 39:46Speaker 7: A rook.
- 39:49Speaker 4: So that.
- 39:52Speaker 8: How is that.
- 39:56Speaker 1: For me? Arela?
- 40:02Speaker 5: I don't know if the I has heard that. It
- 40:04Speaker 5: was kind of like a Japanese gong, like okay, I
- 40:12Speaker 5: have okay, who's doing that?
- 40:20Speaker 1: I don't okay?
- 40:21Speaker 4: Well, thanks, No, I mean, okay, okay, so what does
- 40:29Speaker 4: knowing are?
- 40:31Speaker 5: Do any of you guys have any poets that influence
- 40:34Speaker 5: your work, whether uh some of the ancestors or current
- 40:38Speaker 5: poets that are around on the scene, just anybody that
- 40:42Speaker 5: that influences you or that you.
- 40:45Speaker 4: Kind of follow.
- 40:48Speaker 7: Uh.
- 40:48Speaker 1: One of my favorite city poets is I think his
- 40:53Speaker 1: name is Black Caesar. I'll say that he's pretty good. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:00Speaker 1: he's he's super cool. He's the only one I can
- 41:03Speaker 1: think of off top as far as city. I would
- 41:09Speaker 1: say I'm more influenced by books.
- 41:14Speaker 4: I like to read, and I like to.
- 41:19Speaker 1: I like to challenge my thought process on on on
- 41:23Speaker 1: reality and the way that I see things. So I
- 41:26Speaker 1: study a lot of harmatic principles tesla theories. So I
- 41:31Speaker 1: did because I didn't know what to expect on the podcast.
- 41:34Speaker 1: I did pull off some of one a couple of
- 41:37Speaker 1: my favorite quotes. So, okay, if I could say one
- 41:42Speaker 1: of my favorite Einstein quotes, it says imagination is more
- 41:48Speaker 1: important than knowledge, for knowledge is limited, whereas imagination and
- 41:53Speaker 1: imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And and that's one of my favorite quotes. Right mm hmm, yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 1: I'm here for you.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Next one.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Oh okay, okay, okay, So that's what And then that
- 42:16Speaker 1: was the who done oh that I had pulled? Okay, okay.
- 42:23Speaker 1: So I've been studying quantum theory and stuff a lot
- 42:28Speaker 1: and Nicola Tesla Einstein back to the Egyptians and harmatics
- 42:34Speaker 1: and how within every religion regardless, what truths are like
- 42:42Speaker 1: a baseline anyways, uh, and how we limit ourselves or
- 42:47Speaker 1: how I limit myself even in every aspect. But whatever
- 42:51Speaker 1: we focus on and give our attention to, that's what
- 42:54Speaker 1: the universe gives back to us. So did Nicola Tesla
- 43:00Speaker 1: quote that I pulled and that I actually have this
- 43:03Speaker 1: one written in my book. At work, we build, not
- 43:08Speaker 1: to tear down. Most of our work and resources is squandered.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Our onward march is marked by devastation. Everywhere there is
- 43:16Speaker 1: appalling loss of time, effort, and life. The careless view
- 43:20Speaker 1: but true, okay, And I know it sounds bad, but
- 43:25Speaker 1: it's like if we build it up and tear it down,
- 43:29Speaker 1: then what will we do? We'll rebuild it, right, So
- 43:32Speaker 1: it's a constant cycle that when we become aware of
- 43:37Speaker 1: what we're doing, and that awakening to reality, and like
- 43:40Speaker 1: my awakening to my reality. I have poems like about
- 43:44Speaker 1: ghosts and just the different phases that I went through
- 43:50Speaker 1: from my past and my adolescence, going into being a
- 43:54Speaker 1: wife and a mom and then being a single and
- 43:57Speaker 1: on my own, and just the different elevation how I
- 44:02Speaker 1: set that path for me to come to a point
- 44:06Speaker 1: of destruction from my thought process in the way, and
- 44:10Speaker 1: that what I was giving out and learning in myself
- 44:14Speaker 1: and through those books and different I love perception, so
- 44:18Speaker 1: what you perceive and how you see the world and
- 44:20Speaker 1: how you see it, and we all come from different
- 44:23Speaker 1: worlds living in the same reality, and that's why poetry
- 44:27Speaker 1: is so beautiful to me. But yeah, those are two
- 44:30Speaker 1: of my favorite quotes because it reminds me, you know,
- 44:34Speaker 1: I create it, you know what I'm saying.
- 44:36Speaker 6: So.
- 44:39Speaker 4: Right, No, that's very deep. Nah, I like that.
- 44:43Speaker 9: Thank you, you have a favorite one.
- 44:49Speaker 6: I do.
- 44:50Speaker 7: My My favorite quote is it's also I quote it
- 44:54Speaker 7: in the next poem.
- 44:56Speaker 6: On that share, but it's, uh, you remind me of
- 45:00Speaker 6: a rose.
- 45:01Speaker 7: An absolute rose, and it's from the Great Gatsby book
- 45:06Speaker 7: and that's daisy.
- 45:11Speaker 6: But yeah, the whole, the whole thing with roses for
- 45:16Speaker 6: me is just remembering to continue to evolve and step
- 45:23Speaker 6: into the beauty.
- 45:27Speaker 7: And I kind of talk about this too with the palm.
- 45:30Speaker 7: How dead roses and dead pedals, Uh, to some is
- 45:38Speaker 7: just as beautiful as the ones with life, and people
- 45:41Speaker 7: save them and cherish them, and so there's not a
- 45:45Speaker 7: lot that you can.
- 45:48Speaker 6: Compare to the duality of a rose.
- 45:51Speaker 4: I'll say, hm, that's so true.
- 45:54Speaker 5: That's that's actually beautiful comparison. One of my favorite quotes
- 46:02Speaker 5: is by malcaelm Xie says, if you have no critics,
- 46:05Speaker 5: it's likely you have no success.
- 46:08Speaker 4: And I've lived that.
- 46:10Speaker 5: I lived at my whole life because you know, if
- 46:12Speaker 5: nobody's criticizing you, are critiquing you.
- 46:16Speaker 4: What are you doing?
- 46:17Speaker 5: You being average, You've being on their level, You're not growing,
- 46:20Speaker 5: you not elevating yourself. Now, when you have critics, you
- 46:24Speaker 5: know you are doing something, whether it's good or bad.
- 46:27Speaker 5: And I know people always ask me, how do you
- 46:30Speaker 5: take criticism. I like to hear criticism. It's a different
- 46:35Speaker 5: between being criticized, hearing constructive criticism, and being somebody trying
- 46:42Speaker 5: to tear you down, because there's an amiss difference. Criticism
- 46:45Speaker 5: is to help you grow, help you sharpen yourself.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Which leads me to another favorite.
- 46:51Speaker 5: One of my favorite quot quotes, iron sharping's iron. So
- 46:54Speaker 5: if you have somebody that's trying to help you grow
- 46:57Speaker 5: and they're growing, you're going to sharpen each other. So
- 47:00Speaker 5: I just said all of my favorite quotes and my philosophy. Now,
- 47:05Speaker 5: like I said, criticism isn't good, but you I take
- 47:12Speaker 5: it in and try to learn from it. Now, if
- 47:14Speaker 5: you're trying to tear me down, I'm a listen, but
- 47:17Speaker 5: I'm gonna know the difference, right that. Yeah, So yeah,
- 47:22Speaker 5: I think words whole power. And that's what's so powerful
- 47:27Speaker 5: about poetry because you're able to say to put your
- 47:33Speaker 5: essence and your your thoughts and your your power into
- 47:38Speaker 5: the world for people to receive it, and as we
- 47:41Speaker 5: have stated several times, and grow grow and glow from poetry.
- 47:47Speaker 4: So I'm ready.
- 47:49Speaker 5: If you guys want to share more poetry and give analysis.
- 47:55Speaker 5: I'm I'm loving this and.
- 47:56Speaker 4: I hope anybody on the poetry I am. Okay, Yeah, oh.
- 48:10Speaker 1: This one I know almost by heart. I know it.
- 48:15Speaker 1: It's just this is this was the first poem that
- 48:19Speaker 1: I wrote with the intention of performing I don't know
- 48:25Speaker 1: where it went, because man, some of my poetry that
- 48:32Speaker 1: I'm putting in the book is from that that dire
- 48:36Speaker 1: point in my life, you know, so not being in
- 48:40Speaker 1: that energy so much anymore.
- 48:46Speaker 6: Yeah, it's always it's always weird to me.
- 48:49Speaker 7: When I go back and read some of my poems
- 48:51Speaker 7: on like mental health and stuff, it seemed like where
- 48:56Speaker 7: I was at and reading them compared to now, where
- 48:59Speaker 7: I'm in much healthy and better stable state, I'm like, oh,
- 49:04Speaker 7: my goodness, I wrote that.
- 49:07Speaker 5: Right, I mean, that's how that That's how it was
- 49:10Speaker 5: for me because I know, you guys know I started
- 49:14Speaker 5: out through a divorce and healing myself. And I look
- 49:17Speaker 5: back at some of those poems in my first book
- 49:20Speaker 5: and I'm like, oh wow.
- 49:21Speaker 6: That woo.
- 49:22Speaker 4: That was that cut deep and that really was me.
- 49:24Speaker 5: I was like this and had thoughts like this, But
- 49:29Speaker 5: you're a poetry shows your evolution.
- 49:31Speaker 4: That's what's so lovely about.
- 49:33Speaker 5: It, right, and and state that's not me anymore.
- 49:39Speaker 4: It was me.
- 49:41Speaker 5: But anything you go through, like they say in church,
- 49:45Speaker 5: is your testimony to make you who you are.
- 49:48Speaker 4: So if you had that, you wouldn't evolve to where
- 49:51Speaker 4: you are now.
- 49:52Speaker 1: Growth no matter how true. Mm hmm, so true. Are
- 50:00Speaker 1: you ready for me?
- 50:02Speaker 4: Yes, ma'am?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Okay okay. So, like I said, this is the first
- 50:06Speaker 1: poem I wrote with the intention of performing. And I
- 50:09Speaker 1: actually wrote it in my mom's little hallway, standing up
- 50:13Speaker 1: on her ironing board, and it just poured out of me.
- 50:18Speaker 1: And then I added more to it later. But it
- 50:22Speaker 1: is entitled stand. I stand here as I am. I
- 50:29Speaker 1: do not attempt to deny or save face. Still I
- 50:32Speaker 1: seek his embrace, knowing not if this dream I chase
- 50:36Speaker 1: is covered by his grace. Still I stand, devising plans
- 50:41Speaker 1: of success for everyone around me, feeling left alone to
- 50:44Speaker 1: watch my people's sleep, not wanting to change or been
- 50:48Speaker 1: the frame of your existence. Rather, you would want to
- 50:51Speaker 1: miss this so you can claim you did not know
- 50:55Speaker 1: or could not see. But He is the air we
- 50:58Speaker 1: breathe me. I will not cease to be, but become
- 51:01Speaker 1: a phoenix. See this fire encompasses me and for all eternity.
- 51:06Speaker 1: I would rather seek to find a king than settle
- 51:09Speaker 1: for this blasphemy being offered to me. I've come to
- 51:12Speaker 1: bring truth motivation to the masses, if and only we
- 51:15Speaker 1: seek to grasp it, understand being beyond a filling, devotion
- 51:21Speaker 1: rising above religion, What is the point of it? If
- 51:28Speaker 1: devotion rising above religion, what is the point of it?
- 51:31Speaker 1: If you spend your nights wiping tears from your eyes,
- 51:35Speaker 1: that is not the mercy that has been promised to me.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Nor will I sit here believing I can fly and
- 51:40Speaker 1: have not the wings to carry me. Like the joining
- 51:44Speaker 1: of a legacy in empire falls even when it is
- 51:47Speaker 1: hidden behind four walls. Because if I am not good
- 51:50Speaker 1: within me, who can I be to the people he brings?
- 51:54Speaker 1: Ask yourself what it means to be saved? To find
- 51:57Speaker 1: a savior, consider the mind and its power, and do
- 52:01Speaker 1: not lose sight of the hour. We live in the
- 52:03Speaker 1: last days, pretending not to feel the change in the air,
- 52:07Speaker 1: weeping of how it's not fair yet, and still forgetting
- 52:09Speaker 1: the connections of energy, and surely we do dispense it.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Then try to forget it, but it follows, and soon
- 52:16Speaker 1: enough we feel hollow. So I ask, what is there
- 52:19Speaker 1: left to be saved? Remember we have to be the change,
- 52:23Speaker 1: and if we are the change, then we cannot remain
- 52:26Speaker 1: the same. We must elevate our thinking and rise to
- 52:29Speaker 1: this awakening, to reality, that we may become more than
- 52:34Speaker 1: who we are in our dreams, see beyond the things
- 52:37Speaker 1: we have seen, and in turn we shall live out
- 52:41Speaker 1: our lives victoriously, no longer left victim of thought. See
- 52:46Speaker 1: you read your book and you claim he paid the cost.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Then you turn around, face a trial and look at
- 52:52Speaker 1: lack as though it be lost. But see, if he
- 52:55Speaker 1: be almighty, maker of peace and tranquility, and I am
- 52:58Speaker 1: made in the image of He who created me, then
- 53:02Speaker 1: in my being it must be known that I am
- 53:04Speaker 1: the individual creator of my reality. Desires for this awakening
- 53:08Speaker 1: arouse me from my sleep. So I stand here before you,
- 53:12Speaker 1: only attempting to speak my peace lessons of life, love
- 53:18Speaker 1: and mercy. Keep us on our feet, so that when
- 53:21Speaker 1: we stand, we know in our hearts we stand for something. Amen.
- 53:26Speaker 10: M I'm thinking, OK, yeah, yeah, so you're analysts.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that is just It's like if I feel like
- 53:53Speaker 1: when the Bible says that the truth is simple and
- 53:57Speaker 1: and and the road to Hell is is why, and
- 54:00Speaker 1: to Heaven is thin, and all these different things that
- 54:07Speaker 1: keep us in restraints, you know, that keep us pulling
- 54:11Speaker 1: us down, Like we have to stand for something. We
- 54:15Speaker 1: have to change our thinking and understand our place in
- 54:22Speaker 1: the world even being a speck of dust and holding
- 54:29Speaker 1: things in our hand, and how like my son said
- 54:34Speaker 1: this to me, and I'm sorry, but he said, imagine
- 54:37Speaker 1: holding a plate in your hand for an hour, Like
- 54:41Speaker 1: how long do you think you can hold a plate
- 54:42Speaker 1: full of food in your hand?
- 54:44Speaker 6: You know.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Your hand, it will fall. You know what I'm saying,
- 54:49Speaker 1: You're gonna lose strength quick. And we are being held
- 54:52Speaker 1: in the hands of the Almighty, and he is he
- 54:54Speaker 1: is constantly with us. So yeah, that's just I wanna,
- 55:04Speaker 1: even if someone doesn't hear everything I have to say,
- 55:07Speaker 1: if I can ignite thought in you to look at
- 55:12Speaker 1: the world a little bit differently or circumstances a little differently,
- 55:16Speaker 1: like I did with my son. And you know, now
- 55:19Speaker 1: he's very much in church and in the Bible, and
- 55:22Speaker 1: I'm not so much. But I believe, you know what
- 55:26Speaker 1: I mean. And I told him it's not my place
- 55:30Speaker 1: to pick which way you go. I believe there's truth
- 55:33Speaker 1: in all levels of thought and religion, and and you
- 55:37Speaker 1: can find truth in anything. Or if you're looking for
- 55:40Speaker 1: the ladder, you'll find the ladder too. But whatever you choose,
- 55:44Speaker 1: don't be hot or cold or sit on the fence
- 55:48Speaker 1: you're gonna stand stand.
- 55:51Speaker 4: That's right.
- 55:52Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right. And you made me think of a
- 55:56Speaker 5: poem in my hand, okay or growth? Do you have
- 55:59Speaker 5: another one?
- 56:00Speaker 6: Yes?
- 56:01Speaker 7: I do, And so this is the one I was
- 56:04Speaker 7: talking about. It's entitled Nikki and this is this piece
- 56:12Speaker 7: is also the theme or signature poem for my business,
- 56:19Speaker 7: and so it represents the theology and passion that created
- 56:26Speaker 7: my business, Sculpture Roses Company, And it's also inspired from
- 56:31Speaker 7: one of my favorite movies, Great Gatsby. If beautiful was
- 56:42Speaker 7: printed from a negative, it would be the silhouette of
- 56:46Speaker 7: a rose. Because roses are sculpted from the hands of immortality,
- 56:51Speaker 7: breathe from the marble no one saw as a flower.
- 56:55Speaker 7: Every pedal flaunts the gorgeous of galaxies, positively divine. The
- 57:00Speaker 7: eyes of roses are as ocean deep as.
- 57:06Speaker 6: The sky is blue.
- 57:08Speaker 7: They see life the way we're supposed to live. Balance
- 57:14Speaker 7: in duality, life and death, a marriage with.
- 57:18Speaker 6: As many anniversaries as time.
- 57:20Speaker 7: The two need to become one so fear may bloom
- 57:24Speaker 7: into confidence.
- 57:25Speaker 6: A rose might be one of the few things to
- 57:31Speaker 6: achieve perfection on Earth. The way its attraction reflects the heavens.
- 57:36Speaker 6: It is just as beautiful.
- 57:39Speaker 7: And symbolic in death as the climax of its glow.
- 57:43Speaker 6: The way it smiles ages like the innocence of a
- 57:47Speaker 6: child until it's aroma becomes the wine from thirty five,
- 57:51Speaker 6: The way it freezes death into a Picasso Daliesque piece
- 57:56Speaker 6: of painted poetry.
- 57:58Speaker 7: Arose understands the heartbeat of the death and the silence
- 58:05Speaker 7: of life and humility.
- 58:07Speaker 6: That's why they are used during and after life. Have
- 58:13Speaker 6: you ever seen such grace? Command hell? Roses make the.
- 58:20Speaker 7: Marble soft and the concrete cry and anxiety strong. And
- 58:25Speaker 7: that's why I say you remind me of a rose
- 58:31Speaker 7: and absolute rose. You are and can be everything you
- 58:37Speaker 7: want to achieve.
- 58:39Speaker 6: Ps. It's never too late to sculpt your rose.
- 58:45Speaker 9: Hm.
- 58:47Speaker 4: I love that.
- 58:54Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you.
- 58:58Speaker 4: Listening for your take. Come out, run it.
- 59:03Speaker 6: I think so Sculpted Roses Company.
- 59:08Speaker 7: When I came up with the name, I was very
- 59:10Speaker 7: much attracted to the idea of uh rose booming from
- 59:16Speaker 7: the concrete. And now, in order to grow, you have
- 59:20Speaker 7: to start where you're planted. I think a lot of
- 59:25Speaker 7: the times we all get caught up in the comparison
- 59:28Speaker 7: trap of looking around everything else and what's going on
- 59:32Speaker 7: and we try to grow by taking different pieces of
- 59:37Speaker 7: everybody else that we like and add it to us.
- 59:39Speaker 7: But that doesn't work, and if it does work, it
- 59:43Speaker 7: doesn't it's not a permanent or long lasting fix.
- 59:48Speaker 6: And so the idea behind Sculpted Roses Company is to
- 59:53Speaker 6: bloom where you're.
- 59:54Speaker 7: Planted, recognize who you are with the reality of.
- 59:59Speaker 6: Your weaknesses as well as your strengths, and.
- 1:00:04Speaker 7: Challenging yourself by asking the hard questions and just taking
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: it one step of the time and growing and molding
- 1:00:13Speaker 7: that that marble, that concrete into something beautiful and knowing
- 1:00:19Speaker 7: that you can do it.
- 1:00:22Speaker 5: Right.
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: That's just all that was behind that poem.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: I love it.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: I love it.
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: If you guys could tell your current projects and where
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: you can be found on social media.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: So yay, I just got into my Instagram again.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: I was a lot.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I walked out forever until I went to get on
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: this show, and seeing I was lot on this computer,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I thought I was it was gone. I had already
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: accepted it was gone forever. But you can find me
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: on all platforms as Phoenix Sapphire eight eight eight. Right now,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: I am in the process of completing my book and
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: then I'm going to also do audiobook, which I'm also
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: in the process of doing. I got a couple done
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: and recorded, so it'll be an audiobook along with a
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: paperback book coming out soon once editing and recording is done,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: so you can look for that towards the winter of
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. And yeah, Phoenix Sapphire eight eight eight.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: That's me.
- 1:01:43Speaker 7: On all platforms at Sculpted Roses Company, spelled exactly how
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: it sounds. And I also have my website www dot
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: Sculpted Rosescompany dot.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: Com, and I have merch on there and you.
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: Can find my current book out entitled Random Thoughts. It
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: is an ebook and you can purchase it on my website.
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: It's only five dollars.
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: I wanted to have something that was readily accessible for
- 1:02:15Speaker 7: any and everyone, and something that's cheap and affordable, but
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: also gives you a little bit of a taste of
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: who I am as a poet in the different genres
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: or themes I talk about. And so that's how that
- 1:02:31Speaker 7: kind of came about. And current projects, I am writing
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: a creative writing curriculum and I'm also finishing up a
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: chat book which is going to be part of a
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: bigger series of a huge poetry poetry collection that I'm very,
- 1:02:55Speaker 7: very very excited about. I have a lot of big
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: things coming this chat book, starting with this chat book,
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: and it's going to be released towards the end of
- 1:03:04Speaker 7: this year.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: So just stay tuned for that, because there's a.
- 1:03:09Speaker 7: Lot of very cool things that haven't been done within
- 1:03:14Speaker 7: the poetry world yet that I'm going to introduce, and
- 1:03:18Speaker 7: so it's cool.
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: I'm excited.
- 1:03:29Speaker 7: I am going to try and market it on my
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: calendar and so as long as nothing else comes up,
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: I will be there.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: But as because I probably i'll see you at.
- 1:04:01Speaker 5: When is it April the eighth for open Mic?
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: Yes, I'm featuring at the Doc Bookshop on April eighth.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: You hear that, Phoenix. I've been trying to get you.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: The guys supposed to go to Docs and I go
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: there constantly because that's the only place that I give
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: my perfume in my stage and I have not performed there,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: but I know you've been telling me. I'm gonna get
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: over there.
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: It's they're getting a free shout out. It's every Tuesday
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: night open MIC's I'm gon'aclock to him. If you're in
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: the DFW area, the doc book Shop, and they sponsored
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: AAA L A C. Last year when they came to
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: town with Queen Angela Angela, are you still around?
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:04:52Speaker 8: Are you ready to turn? Let's say, are you ready
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: to turn? I said, are you ready to turn?
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:05:12Speaker 9: H yeah, I think he said we had two more people, right,
- 1:05:20Speaker 9: Oh oh no, well we were gonna.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: I don't know who would have came. Oh no, ma'am.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Well, ma'am, well, I'm gonna continue with my with my.
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: Oh oh really, Oh no, ma'am, I'm gonna continue with my.
- 1:05:59Speaker 6: H okay, Oh are they?
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: Are they on the poets on Instagram? Are they?
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: They're not They're not poets, They're just friends of mine.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: Oh okay, well we will continue on. Sorry people, whoa,
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: this is the Verst Show. So we don't continue with
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: our post poetry with miss Phoenix Sapphire and with Roses.
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: If they still want to stay, we just have a
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: uh the home stretch going through because I am enjoying
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: the poetry. Okay, well we're continuing. So I'm sorry, Miss Angela,
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: so so with your last.
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: And I'm pointing sorry uh on.
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: Roses Phoenix, I normally don't do my Devil's Reflection as
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: a poem that I wrote. And when I heard your
- 1:06:57Speaker 5: poem of Phoenix and what you were talking about, you know,
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: with the Almighty always being in our life, I have
- 1:07:05Speaker 5: a poem that I wrote a called Devil's Reflection that
- 1:07:09Speaker 5: I like to share with everybody. If it's okay, okay,
- 1:07:15Speaker 5: it's the devil's reflection is always in your eyes? Who
- 1:07:20Speaker 5: is it that you despise? Fix what inside? Make yourself whole.
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: Don't let the devil own your soul. See, the devil
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: is tricky. Remember he was God's right hand man. He
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: loved playing and protected God until he fell. He fell
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: long and hard from grace. He lost his place. So
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: now he tries to own anyone who will open up
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: and beyond a lost soul, desperately seeking someone in a
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: plight that can be undone, steady falling, and he's calling
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: to you. Get him out of your soul. Make yourself whole.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: You still have time to reconcile and rise. Leave that
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: devil behind.
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: So, so I know we've just talked about open mic.
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: So when you guys go to open my can and
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: do any of you like to perform with music or
- 1:08:23Speaker 5: any other kind of media.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: I write to music, so yes, because when I have
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: the music behind me, I say it different. And the
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: music helps me because I be Russian, and that's when
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: you gotta be trying to you know, you go so no,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: but the music helps me to uh stay on point
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: with it. And it also crescendos and flows different with
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: the music.
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: Behind it, right right.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: Right of a.
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: Poem that I probably did with music before we get off.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: I agree with you.
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: The music puts me in a different space. It helps
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: me because I like to karaoke. Anybody who knows me,
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: I like to karaoke, so that that that helps me.
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: That actually helps me memorize my poems or or feel
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: more confident perform them, because I because what is poetry.
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: Poetry are lyrics and your poem can be a song.
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: So that's that's what helps me, you Roses.
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: I love to write to music. I write to music
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: all the time.
- 1:09:42Speaker 7: I have not performed with music, and to be honest,
- 1:09:48Speaker 7: it's very nerve wrapping for me because I can't. I
- 1:09:53Speaker 7: feel like I'm basically the opposite of Phoenix. It doesn't
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: calm me down, it makes me more anxious. I feel
- 1:09:59Speaker 7: like the music and the beat. If I misstep or
- 1:10:06Speaker 7: need to freestyle somewhere in the performance, then it throws
- 1:10:10Speaker 7: everything else off of the music.
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: And in my head, I'm like, oh no, I don't
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: know what to do now. I don't. I haven't learned
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: how to just freestyle with music yet, and so.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Neither I can't freestyle, not at all, not at all.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: But I'm beat down, so I can't hear the beat, right,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: I just speak on the beat, if that makes sense.
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: I can.
- 1:10:35Speaker 5: Like when I'm looking for a song to go with
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: with my poem.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: I listen to the music.
- 1:10:41Speaker 5: I listen to it, and then I'll stand up and
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: I'll speak the poem.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: And that's that's how I guess.
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: Like I said, it's like karaoke coaching, right, I learn
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: it and then sometimes I can hear music in it
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: sparked me to write poem.
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: I'm in.
- 1:11:02Speaker 5: I have a friend that's a she's a musical therapy coach,
- 1:11:06Speaker 5: and so she she teaches about the different.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: The music.
- 1:11:12Speaker 5: I don't want to mess it up the music tones,
- 1:11:14Speaker 5: like different tones can can make inspire you to write.
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: And I'll listen to her playlist and different you know,
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: cause music does like alter your mood.
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: Right yeah, and.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: And so I'll listen to her playlist and they helped
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: me to write and be more free and be more upbeat,
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: because if I listen to something sad and I'm trying
- 1:11:38Speaker 5: to write, of course my my little poem, my poem
- 1:11:40Speaker 5: is gonna be all yeah gloom doom.
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: Music.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: For that reason, like today was a day I did
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: not listen to any music. I started the morning with
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: a couple of books, like it was like a book,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: and then it was like a little podcast type thing
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: speaking about consciousness.
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: And then I've I do.
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Like research work analyst, so I'll put on binaral beats
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: while I work, and it has increased my productivity so
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: much because I do commission work, so really what I
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: put in I get out, but my focus with the
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: binural beats. So on point, I would suggest everybody do
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: some binural beats like the instrumentals cool for writing poetry,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: but understanding the hurts that you're listening to and what
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: goes into the music and that's why the song will
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: make you sad or happy or make you want to
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: go get drunk or whatever. Right, that's what go ahead,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: all right, No, I'm sorry, go ahead, No, I was
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: just gonna say. They purposely do that to flow your
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: mind in a certain put you in a certain feeling or.
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: By rather, I've heard that weary before.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: They're like when you're out shopping, right, and you hear
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: all the upbeat music, so you keep shopping and spending
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: your money because you're feeling good, and then you get home,
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: you like you have shoppers remorse, right, But what can
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: you say at the Bible?
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: Yes, ma'am, go ahead, I'm sorry I talked too much.
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: Oh you're the guest here.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: No, I just know what you're to say that. That's
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: why when you go to the club, the music is
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: purposely loud because playing those types of tones at that
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: volume will make you drink faster. Literally look it up
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: like and it's literally all a game that the whoever
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: are playing with us, that we do have to be
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: conscious of what we feed ourselves, the same you put vegetables,
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: you know, eat vegetables. Like here's even more important than
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you're telling me.
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: Mm hmmm, No, I've okay, don't judge me. I've written
- 1:14:09Speaker 5: a poem when I've when i've been might have had
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: a sip or two, and then I'll read it and
- 1:14:16Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, that's a whole total different vibe from
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: but it means something because at that point, at this
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: state of mind that I was in, that's what I meant,
- 1:14:25Speaker 5: and that's what I wrote, you know, And usually it's
- 1:14:29Speaker 5: an empowering poem. But I have written this, you know,
- 1:14:34Speaker 5: just in different stages of emotion.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: Put it like that. Yeah, mm hmm. And I find
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: that when.
- 1:14:44Speaker 5: I go back and look at the poetry, it's like, oh, yeah,
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: it was sticking my thoughts to a tea.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: Anybody want to round three?
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: Before we go off?
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Round round three?
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: Find them around.
- 1:15:07Speaker 5: What they called finish finisher finish the like world of combat.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: Yeah, and so we're talking about me, I'm gonna do
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: mine with music, just so y'all know.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: Okay, you want to go first, hear me?
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Okay, let's see.
- 1:15:30Speaker 5: And actually i'm the genre that I like, romance, and
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: it's called let me see if I find the music
- 1:15:39Speaker 5: real quick. You you, let's see, let's see if I
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: can find the music real quick.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: I don't know if I.
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: See. You said you loved me, but you lied. You
- 1:16:21Speaker 5: broke my heart and you left me to cry. You
- 1:16:25Speaker 5: took away the light from my eyes.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: You left me in the dark, alone and cold.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: See you said you needed me, but you did it.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: You found someone else and you forgot me. You threw
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: away the memories we made. You left me in the
- 1:16:46Speaker 5: past and wanted and cold. See you said you wanted me,
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: but you changed, You changed your mind. You gave up
- 1:16:55Speaker 5: on us, and you let me go. You ignored the
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: promises we swore. You loved me in the dust, broken
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: and cold. See you said you loved me, but you lie,
- 1:17:12Speaker 5: and you broke my heart and you left me to cry.
- 1:17:15Speaker 5: You took away the light, the light that was in
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: my eyes. You left me in the dark, alone and cold.
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: You loft a hole in my soul.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: But see, but see, when you did this, you made
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: me grow. You made me.
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: Realize that love isn't dependent on one person.
- 1:17:38Speaker 4: It takes two.
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: So I healed, understanding the revelation, I survived. I found
- 1:17:46Speaker 5: someone who brought that life back to my eyes. He
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: loves me to life, Yes, to life. L I f
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: e life.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: See.
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: See, if you wouldn't have filled me with sorrow, I
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: would no joy. So thank you for saying you loved
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: me when you didn't. Thank you for breaking my heart.
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: This gave me a brand new star. See, you opened
- 1:18:16Speaker 5: the door to my future, so now I can close
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: the door on you my past. See thank you, because
- 1:18:25Speaker 5: I'm no longer in the dark, alone and cold. Baby,
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: I'm whole, I'm new, I'm revived, I'm loved, I'm celebrating.
- 1:18:34Speaker 5: I'm hold and just like the phoenix from the ashes,
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: I rose.
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my poem, you and so I make
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: y'all analyzed.
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: That was at the point when I realized that I
- 1:18:51Speaker 5: was healed and I was whole. And sometimes you have
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: to go through lessons because you wouldn't know true love.
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: If you know, I know true love because I experienced
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: something that wasn't love.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: So I love right.
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: So when you when you grow and you heal, you
- 1:19:11Speaker 5: know you deal break because you know what you want
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: what you don't And that's what that poem came from.
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: But I'm a phoenix. I rose from the ashes.
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: You know you they go out of there with the
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: red flags once you heal.
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: I love that poem, but that's that's my poem that
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: I like to I have a couple that I like
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: to perform to music so.
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: That one I can feel it.
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: The first time I tried to perform and I cried
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: the second time.
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: I cried because that's the beauty of poetry.
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: Right now, I'm excited because if it doesn't evoke emotions
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: from you, the poet, does it.
- 1:19:53Speaker 4: Really mean anything to you?
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: True?
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: Right, it should evoke some type of feelings, type of emotion.
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: And I like to see you when I perform, when
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: people are snapping or I see that I had connected.
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: So anyhow I'm next.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Just don't look at me in the eyes when I'm performing.
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: I've learned how you got to look at people, but
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: look past them, because you know, don't look through me.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: I debate, teacher, I gotta go back to the hog school, said,
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: imagine everybody naked.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not gonna help me. That's just gonna distracted anyway.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: What it helps, it helps me, But I won't look.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: You in the eyes, turn away from I can't even
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: barely see so on this because I haven't used my
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: computer set up in a minute. Okay, this one is
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: entitled ghost Ghost haunting my mind and possessing my energy,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: the constant draining of power that every hour I feel
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: myself drifting, moving me further away from source, coming to
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: this place, I no longer feel my cries or being heard.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Let me be still, Let me feel that this is real,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: For in this moment in time, I find that even
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: if the world be overwhelmed with lies, I love life.
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: Ghosts.
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: They come and they go, taking all that they will
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: from the one still longing to give, knowing not the
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: scars they leave on heart. See, I sacrificed, and I
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: took the loss. So you may call me a fool
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: because I did what you would not do, loved when
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: I didn't have reason, tried again although I had already,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: And she may recite Scripture to me as a reminder
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: of how many times I am obligated to forgive, or
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: tell me the stories of how Jesus was crucified by
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: his own people, and that I too would serve as example. No,
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: let me be still, let me feel that this is real,
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: For in this moment in time, I find that, even
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: if the world be overwhelmed with lies, I love life,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: ghost presenting confusion, truth, fact and fiction left undecided because
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: what lies within the delight ghost presenting confusion interlaced with truth,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: fact and fiction left undecided, because what lies within the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: desires of our leaders is that we may be easily defeated.
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: Possibly I should not even fix my lips to speak
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: on the subject. And surely there are certain topics left
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: out of daily discussions. So let me be still, let
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: me feel that this is real, for in this moment
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: in time, I find that even if the world be
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: overwhelmed by lies, I love life ghosts.
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: Now you know the rule?
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Oh you hear why I got? You know, I was
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: married for I was married for thirteen years. I was
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: abused and trying to heal myself from everything that was
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: taught to me from fourteen to twenty eight by a
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: man who can't, you know, really teach me anything. But
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: all these strongholds that I had to break in the
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: Bible telling me that I'm supposed to forgive and forgive
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: and forgive.
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: And that kept me.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: There, right, you know, But I mean, what's.
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: So? It's like? And then it haunts you?
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, because no matter how successful,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: Now I'm a single mom. Now I got all these
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: kids and all these things and perceptions that people want
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: to look at me like, well, go back to your husband,
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: or do this or do that. I have to make
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: the choice, and I see at all avenues it was
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: taught to me to get a family and have this
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: and have that so that I can be what seeing
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: in a certain light. Right, But the picture on the
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: outside looked really pretty, how cars, trips all of that.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: You know, it can look really pretty, But that doesn't
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: mean like underneath, I was dying. Underneath, I was you know,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: suffocating to point of being non responsive to where my
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: kids see me now and they're.
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: To them.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Then I was in so much depression that seeing me
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: still and I admit I'm adhd so I'll focus on
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: this and like right now, it's been work in poetry
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: and events and different things to keep me busy. But
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: finding myself in my dream and operating out of survival
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: mode is like those ghosts are still there. That's still
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: a part of my past. But had I not went
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: through that, I would not have found the books that
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: I've read. I wouldn't have found I wouldn't have gotten
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: so deep in it that I had to dig myself
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: out and I had to find the strength to do
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: it through those things that have ignited my consciousness to
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: where I have an abundance of peace. But the damn
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: ghosts still there.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: You know, mm, But it's nothing like I hate to
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: say that I identify with.
- 1:26:07Speaker 5: Everything, going through a divorce and being yeah, going through
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: a twenty one year marriage and you put up with
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: things and when you finally find your voice and your
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: piece is nothing like it. And I'm proud of you
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: that you expressed that. Like I say, you give voice,
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: and you touched me because I never thought to call
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: it a ghost. I had a point. I have a
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: poem that I have called hollow, and that was kind
- 1:26:38Speaker 5: of like at my lowest point, right, kind of like
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: your ghost. And you had to do what's best for
- 1:26:45Speaker 5: you at one point in time, right, and let it out.
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: And you can't be infatuated with society because I always
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: feel like, now that I'm here, I'm like, if you
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: think it was so good, you go live that life.
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: I saw something someone said, Hey, somebody think they're living
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: your dream, but her dream is going to turn into
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: her to your nightmare.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Because God released you from that, Yes he did, and
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: man I had to. And I have a poem about
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: that too. I remember when I would scream out to
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: the Almighty to save me and be there for me,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: and why and why? And I remember when Almighty was
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: like I've been here with you. That's Breathe came from that,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: breathing life into you while you continue to make your
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: same choice. And I was the one who chose to stay.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: I was the one who you know every time, and
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: whatever choice I've made, I made it, and Almighty has
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: been there for me through it all, loving me abundantly
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: and my I'm so thankful for where I am.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: Yes, and I'm glad you're around that. That's what we're
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: here for.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: That's what the poetry is forward. It is giving you
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: a voice.
- 1:27:58Speaker 5: And you won't believe how many other people men and
- 1:28:02Speaker 5: women can connect to that. That's that's how my book
- 1:28:04Speaker 5: became the best seller because all I talked about I
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: went through a divorce and healed.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: And that's where Phoenix Heart came from. Okay, we're not.
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: Man bashing, so mister Roses, everybody shut out, no, but
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: but that's it. That's that experience.
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: Can go for a male or for.
- 1:28:32Speaker 5: Or for a woman, because men get trapped in bad situations.
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: Men get abused, whether they talk about it or not,
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: Men get used to right. Okay, that's you.
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: I was gonna say, I'm right there with you.
- 1:28:48Speaker 7: I went through a divorce and that was a part
- 1:28:52Speaker 7: of my journey and my growth and how it's a
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: real It was a real tough uh two years where
- 1:29:01Speaker 7: I had to kind of like because I requested the
- 1:29:06Speaker 7: divorce and I basically just started all over from everything.
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: And I think the toughest part for me through it
- 1:29:15Speaker 7: was my son, who's my stepson, I call my son,
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: but he was I've known him since he was seven
- 1:29:26Speaker 7: and he's sixteen now, and so when me and his
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: mom separated, it.
- 1:29:36Speaker 6: Really affected him a lot too.
- 1:29:38Speaker 7: And he doesn't know his real dad at all, so
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: I was the only kind of father figure in his life.
- 1:29:43Speaker 7: And so that was the hardest part for me because
- 1:29:46Speaker 7: I felt like I was just doing the same thing
- 1:29:50Speaker 7: his dad did, and I knew it was going to
- 1:29:53Speaker 7: be tough on him, but.
- 1:29:54Speaker 6: I was also trying.
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: I made the decision based on what I thought was
- 1:30:01Speaker 7: going to be best for not just me, but for
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: him and everyone as a whole, because the the circles
- 1:30:10Speaker 7: and the patterns that we were going with were very unhealthy.
- 1:30:13Speaker 7: And to be honest, I don't know, uh if I
- 1:30:18Speaker 7: would have been.
- 1:30:18Speaker 6: Here much longer if I continued in that same pattern.
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: And so.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: I've been there too.
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I can I can hear. I can hear all
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: of that with you. So, since we've been talking about
- 1:30:31Speaker 6: all this.
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: The poetry giving us the voice to put it out right.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I have.
- 1:30:43Speaker 7: I have a poem that I wrote for my son
- 1:30:46Speaker 7: kind of about this, uh uh. And then I also
- 1:30:50Speaker 7: have another one okay, kind of about mental health called
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: Shadows in the Mirror, which why would y'all like.
- 1:30:59Speaker 6: To hear.
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: Both? Pho, Phoenix can pick which one we're going to
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: hear firstror? Definitely.
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: I just like the way that that sounds, because people
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: be afraid of mirrors, you know, like, don't have mirrors
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: in your room and stuff put them all around me.
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: I never thought about that, Phoenix. Okay, sorry, it's.
- 1:31:25Speaker 6: Very true, very true.
- 1:31:26Speaker 7: So this this is one of my mental health pieces,
- 1:31:29Speaker 7: and it comes.
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: From one of my darker times going through depression.
- 1:31:42Speaker 7: Have I have really been working on myself or did
- 1:31:46Speaker 7: I just change from my work clothes to something more comfortable?
- 1:31:51Speaker 7: Is this depression or is it just the pigment of
- 1:31:54Speaker 7: my skin? Can I had defeat you, detached from you?
- 1:31:59Speaker 7: Or or are you so fingerprinted to my thoughts that
- 1:32:04Speaker 7: I simply keep running away from me?
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: Sometimes I wish I could just escape me.
- 1:32:10Speaker 7: Myself wears a mask, and I am tired of getting
- 1:32:14Speaker 7: dressed up just to feel down.
- 1:32:15Speaker 6: I'm black, said my mind.
- 1:32:20Speaker 7: I live in the shadows of sadness, watching the sunlight
- 1:32:24Speaker 7: from a distance. If only the heat from the sun's
- 1:32:27Speaker 7: smile would kiss me, maybe it would melt away my sadness.
- 1:32:31Speaker 7: I'm black, said my words, followed by you're different. They
- 1:32:37Speaker 7: won't accept you. You don't fit in. I'm black, says
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: the mirror, looking at a reflection of depression. I get
- 1:32:45Speaker 7: so lost in my waning emotions. My waxing moon can
- 1:32:49Speaker 7: barely breathe. It's so cold that even the rays of
- 1:32:54Speaker 7: light feels sad. I'm black, I'm depressed. Black, I'm oppressed.
- 1:33:02Speaker 7: I'm black. I'm obsessed with the idea of my feelings
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: living on equal ground. I'm black. I'm depressed. The two
- 1:33:14Speaker 7: interchange while beginning to sound the same, so much so
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: I took depression's last name. When I look at me,
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: I see one broken piece. I can't find the rest
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: of the lyrics to my song. Maybe it's because the
- 1:33:29Speaker 7: writer will never finish it. Maybe it's because I didn't
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: cry enough to water my heart. I'm black, I'm dirt.
- 1:33:37Speaker 7: But my soul is it's dying, and this soil is
- 1:33:45Speaker 7: killing the last remaining rose. I am a rose with
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: bloody red regrets for pedals. I put my failures on
- 1:33:54Speaker 7: a Pedalestalol.
- 1:33:55Speaker 6: I'm so lost.
- 1:33:58Speaker 7: Every time I tried to look up and got me nowhere,
- 1:34:01Speaker 7: I'm so lost. I keep letting the gray line give
- 1:34:05Speaker 7: me directions because there's a thin line between joy and happiness,
- 1:34:10Speaker 7: and in the middle is pity. Where you can find me.
- 1:34:14Speaker 6: I'm black.
- 1:34:16Speaker 7: So they think I stole these five minutes of happiness,
- 1:34:19Speaker 7: and so what if I did. Everyone deserves fifteen minutes
- 1:34:24Speaker 7: of fame and minds is coming soon.
- 1:34:26Speaker 6: But right now I just want to smile and.
- 1:34:29Speaker 7: Actually feel the laughter hold me instead of the facade
- 1:34:32Speaker 7: that hugs me like a long embrace. This morning I
- 1:34:36Speaker 7: stopped running and I looked depression in the face.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: My mind is not yours. It's the lores ps. Let
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: the battle again.
- 1:34:54Speaker 4: To wipe the two.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I love that me too.
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, no, I like that.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: You said a few things in there. I was trying
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: to go back what you said about the sun, and
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: then you said, put put your failures on a pedestal
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: Like that cuts deep. That really does, because we learn
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: a lot more from our mistakes. Right, they stay with
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: us longer. Right, Wow, I love that.
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: It's like your ghosts combine it. That's a ghost like you.
- 1:35:39Speaker 6: It really is. And just like.
- 1:35:43Speaker 7: I think, the biggest thing I learned through just the
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: process of the divorce is not trying to run away
- 1:35:51Speaker 7: from our reflection and accept who I was and the
- 1:35:58Speaker 7: things that I didn't like or the weaknesses, asking myself.
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: Why and learning more about.
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: Myself from myself and saying okay, this we're we're all right,
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: and all we have to do is just take a
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: step forward.
- 1:36:16Speaker 6: We can't stay stuck in.
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: This reflection where you're only staring at the darkness.
- 1:36:25Speaker 6: You have to learn how to.
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: Turn the page and create your own light and going
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: back to, like I said, being blooming where you're planted.
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: And so that's a lot of where that that peace
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: came from.
- 1:36:42Speaker 5: Yeah, you're a rose that grew through the concrete you
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: write that, right, Yeah, I really felt that one.
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: I did. Have you ever been walking?
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Because I used to have my room set up where
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: I will when my thing was over there, I would
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: walk in and my own shadow in the mirrors because
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: they tilt. I have two that tilted and the one
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: my own shadow in the mirror was scared of me,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: and I'd be like.
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: Who was that?
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: And then you have to go back and you kind
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: of look and you're like, Okay, thats be that was me.
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: That's a premise for a poem.
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, most definitely, But that this poem made
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: me think of it in a different way because that's
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: really our It's like our it's like that remints of
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: our failures, just like poking in for you know, in
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: the back of our minds, like it's always there, and
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: just you want to be happy, you say, get dressed
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: up nice to feel how you know what I'm saying.
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: And I.
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: And I liked your references to black because I'm actually
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: in the middle performing black.
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: But you made me see it different because yeah, is
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: what am I? I'm walking around black?
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: Yeah that's coming from.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: A black man.
- 1:38:17Speaker 6: M hmm. Very much like learning how to be comfortable
- 1:38:21Speaker 6: in my own skin.
- 1:38:22Speaker 7: And I just kind of like played with the words
- 1:38:25Speaker 7: of like black and darkness and depression.
- 1:38:28Speaker 6: But also I'm a.
- 1:38:29Speaker 11: Black man and I am one hundred percent comfortable being
- 1:38:36Speaker 11: a black man at that point, and so I was
- 1:38:39Speaker 11: kind of I just wrote about that and trying to
- 1:38:42Speaker 11: figure out how.
- 1:38:43Speaker 7: To conquer the gates of myself.
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you wrote it was a It was a beautiful
- 1:38:52Speaker 5: duality on the play of black to make. That's what
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: That's what I pulled out of it the most, And
- 1:39:00Speaker 5: I was like, wow, Like I said, I'm playing around
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: with a poem black, But yeah, your duality was great.
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: It speaks a lot on the black man though, and
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: I think more need to hear it, because the black
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: man is facing criticism from every outs just because and
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: most times they aren't able to focus on what's going
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: on inside of them. So not only do you have
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: to fight the world, you got to fight yourself too.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: You got to fight your woman, your kids. You got
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: to be that authority. But what about what I see
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: when I'm looking in the mirror, Like, I commend you
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: greatly for your expression, and the way that you articulated
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: is amazing.
- 1:39:44Speaker 6: Thank you, Thank you so much. I really appreciate that.
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: And that's in the same way I'm learning all this,
- 1:39:52Speaker 7: I challenge myself to share in hopes that it can
- 1:39:57Speaker 7: inspire someone else to do the same or to tach
- 1:40:00Speaker 7: someone else how to be the same, because we all
- 1:40:04Speaker 7: need that, right, we do.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: You're gonna do your last poem and then I think
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: we got.
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: About fifteen minutes and wrap up.
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: Okay, okay, so this one is entitled.
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: My son.
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: Remember this.
- 1:40:34Speaker 7: Coloring when you're younger is letting each shade have it's
- 1:40:40Speaker 7: alone time.
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: They say elders deserve it.
- 1:40:46Speaker 7: But I never had the opportunity to see your hair
- 1:40:51Speaker 7: age to gray. You were a silver fox, elusive with
- 1:40:54Speaker 7: your presence, no matter how much of a present it
- 1:40:58Speaker 7: would be for me. Doesn't anyone care about how I feel.
- 1:41:02Speaker 7: I didn't ask to be here, yet I am, and
- 1:41:04Speaker 7: everything is falling apart. I have to pick up the
- 1:41:09Speaker 7: pieces and make them beautiful. Whoever said horror was beautiful
- 1:41:15Speaker 7: never had a cut deeper than the surface. I can't
- 1:41:18Speaker 7: escape this horror story. And adults keep preaching about the honor.
- 1:41:24Speaker 7: They don't even hold on to your moral compass. Clearly
- 1:41:28Speaker 7: was never fixed, so stop trying to fix me. How'll
- 1:41:32Speaker 7: do it myself. Just like everything else, I don't care
- 1:41:37Speaker 7: if I take the long way. What's a little more
- 1:41:40Speaker 7: pain with this depression? This is what I imagined your
- 1:41:46Speaker 7: thoughts said after.
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: You heard me say Mom and Dad are getting a divorce.
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: I'm sorry to have multiplied the trend of men walking
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: out your life.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: Son.
- 1:41:59Speaker 7: I'm sorry, and I hope you don't keep your hands
- 1:42:04Speaker 7: around the neck of a grudge.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: My son.
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: I love you.
- 1:42:08Speaker 7: I'm sorry your picture of love now has a crack
- 1:42:11Speaker 7: in it. My everything. If you hate me and ignore
- 1:42:15Speaker 7: everything else, please remember this respect is earn not given,
- 1:42:19Speaker 7: so learn to give it even when it's not deserved.
- 1:42:23Speaker 7: Because pain can learn to heal when patience reflects. Respect
- 1:42:29Speaker 7: can't be brought, So don't spend your money on brands
- 1:42:32Speaker 7: expecting it to elevate your title.
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: Your name holds a weight more valuable than gold.
- 1:42:38Speaker 7: Not even the world can hold you. Let nothing hold
- 1:42:43Speaker 7: you aft. Dad will always have your back. Respect those
- 1:42:47Speaker 7: who hurt you more than the love they didn't give.
- 1:42:50Speaker 7: When you treat respect like the kindness everyone should receive,
- 1:42:56Speaker 7: you won't have to ask for it. Then you can
- 1:42:59Speaker 7: paint your own own future coloring when you're older is
- 1:43:03Speaker 7: letting the paint sit at the grown folks table and
- 1:43:07Speaker 7: mix and conversation. Yes, no matter what, our colors were
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: always matched. Mm about you?
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: You just just you just set up making me cry
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: to night. Huh, I love that.
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: Again, a lot of men don't express their love as
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: they shoot for their kids. And that's what I like
- 1:43:38Speaker 5: about that. That poem in my favorite line is I'm
- 1:43:43Speaker 5: sorry that.
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: I had to leave a crack? How you can you
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: run it?
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: What was that like?
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: And you run it back? Poet that I had.
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: To leave a crack my son? I love you.
- 1:43:56Speaker 7: I'm sorry your picture of love now has a cracking it.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: That's so deep because a lot of kids experience that
- 1:44:06Speaker 5: when parents split split in that's just such a I mean,
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: I don't want to cry, but it's just such a
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: what poetic way to say that, I'm sorry that we've
- 1:44:22Speaker 5: split and your heart is split because the kids are
- 1:44:25Speaker 5: split and they do see a crack when parents leave
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: like that. Yeah, yeah, that's deep. Yeah.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: And again to a man to have that level of
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: motion for a child that's not biologically yours is a
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: testament in itself. So it's it's speaking on so many levels.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: But love is love, you know, right, and it's beautiful
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: and it breaks in it men's and pieces, and you know,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: having that expression to show you said he's.
- 1:45:04Speaker 6: Sixteen, now, yeah she's sixteen.
- 1:45:07Speaker 7: I hate it because he's a whole young adult now,
- 1:45:10Speaker 7: but I still think of him as little.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: Now they stay babies. My kids are now twenty one,
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: nineteen eighteen, and they are still babies, you know, but
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: you see him be molded into who they are. Like
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: now they get to make their own choices and you
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: get to see how much you've actually taught them by
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: their character who they really are. So I really do personally,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: I sit in of my kids and if you look back,
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: like they'll joke because a little girl came and tried
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: to run away over here from one of the friends
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: came over here and said the mom was trying to
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: do clean something, so she ran away, and like, my
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: son was like you the levels that you know what
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: I'm saying, to the struggles that they've been through, what
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: we've been through, to see the way that they handle
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: themselves and stuff is amazing.
- 1:46:13Speaker 5: Right right, That's just yeah, that's just awesome because you
- 1:46:18Speaker 5: you still you're still being a guide an influence for
- 1:46:24Speaker 5: him regardless because.
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: He speaks volumes. Mm hmm.
- 1:46:31Speaker 5: So we're winding down a little bit. I had to
- 1:46:34Speaker 5: ask a fun question. So if you had your poetry
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: turned into a mini saga movie, who would you want
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: to play?
- 1:46:45Speaker 7: You?
- 1:46:48Speaker 5: As an actor actress, you fit your personality.
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: That's so I'm biased.
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: I don't know who it fit my personality the best,
- 1:47:03Speaker 7: but I know, I know I have my favorite actors
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: that I go watch and see mm hmmm.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: Like I really like Ryan Gosling a lot.
- 1:47:15Speaker 7: I'll go see anything that he's in, even if it's trash,
- 1:47:19Speaker 7: just because.
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: I like him.
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you're a movie fanatic too, movie right.
- 1:47:26Speaker 6: And then I also like Johnny Depp a lot too.
- 1:47:28Speaker 6: I feel like his.
- 1:47:30Speaker 7: Offbeat, quirky weirdness fits the artistic side of me that
- 1:47:36Speaker 7: people don't really see a lot.
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: It's in there.
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: So Ryan Goslin, okay, okay, you're as Phoenix.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: Who I always felt like Mustard, I would say, too
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: off top I would want to play me would be
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: Laura London or Kelly Rowland.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: Oh Kelly, she's spicy, all.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, you know, because I'm not. You know, people
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: talk to me. There's I'm in tune with every side
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: of me. So to the level of passion and peace,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: I have to the same levels fury and aggression flow
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: in me. So like Kelly rolling in that Mela coop
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: who was it Mela Coopler or something like that. Yeah,
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: Laura Levin from back the day in that soft side,
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: because that is who I am. But a lot of
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: time circumstances brings out another side of me. So one
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: of them.
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, I asked the question, and who would I like?
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: Carrie?
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: I love Karriy Washington. I mean this classic. She's strong,
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: she's smart, and this is crazy. I really started liking
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: her when I've seen her in the role in Django
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: and she remember she was she was a slave. That
- 1:49:07Speaker 5: was like the way because she was so smart. Oh yeah,
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: and she would not give in and they, you know,
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: beat up with her down whatever, but you know, a
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: man came for her. And I liked her from that
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: point and then I didn't fall into the scandal crazy
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: until later. I like her, and then I loved Taragi.
- 1:49:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Taraji could be the other side of me because
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: we had the reality.
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: She could be the other side of me, what you say,
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: the feisty side, nonsense and m When I loved her
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: and oh god, I can't think of the Tyler Perry movie.
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: When she when she was kind of nutty, but when
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: she when she worked all that time for I can't
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: think of the name. But when she worked all that
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: time for him and then he up and married somebody else.
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: High she did give him the boot.
- 1:50:02Speaker 7: Oh yeah, acrimony.
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: Acrimony. I liked her in acrimony.
- 1:50:11Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not saying I was herd, but I
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: kind of could relate to some of that, not all
- 1:50:18Speaker 5: of it, but to some of that when you build
- 1:50:20Speaker 5: people up and then they feel like they walk out,
- 1:50:23Speaker 5: even though she kind of pushed them out, Like yeah,
- 1:50:27Speaker 5: so before.
- 1:50:28Speaker 4: We I know, we did this at the break.
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: Again, tell us your name, your pen name, where to
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: find you, what books you have out.
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: And then we're gonna wrap it up.
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: And when we I just like to say thank you,
- 1:50:43Speaker 5: thank you very much for Grayson my podcast with your poetry.
- 1:50:48Speaker 5: Both of you have brought me to tears. We've had
- 1:50:50Speaker 5: some great conversations. I know it's not like my last
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: time seeing you guys, because you're in the DFW area,
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: and I thank you. I can't thank you enough for
