Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to a lily Pad production.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Welcome to press play. We were going through the lesson
- 0:06Speaker 2: stellar history of video game movies. I'm Drew Shulman. With
- 0:08Speaker 2: me is my beef teak bro Jason Wynn. Now, whether
- 0:11Speaker 2: you're watching or playing along, it's time to press play.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Are you familiar with Final Fantasy? Like, have you heard
- 0:24Speaker 2: of it before?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah? I've heard of it. Wild time to reveal that
- 0:30Speaker 3: I've never played any of them. I never got into it.
- 0:32Speaker 3: They were like hot. It was the PS two era, right,
- 0:35Speaker 3: that's when my coming of age or weakening into video
- 0:39Speaker 3: games happened. But they were like two edgy and involved
- 0:45Speaker 3: when I was of age, and they were popular, Like
- 0:47Speaker 3: I was playing Cars the movie Time video game when
- 0:51Speaker 3: Final Fantasy like ten was coming.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Out, you know what I mean. So oh it never crossed.
- 0:57Speaker 3: My my my desk and it never came across my
- 1:01Speaker 3: desk to get into video games, despite me being the
- 1:04Speaker 3: demographic like all the Asian kids that I knew, all
- 1:07Speaker 3: the older Asian kids I knew were into Final Fantasy
- 1:09Speaker 3: and Kingdom Hearts, I was not.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so I will definitely say I think for me,
- 1:13Speaker 2: Final Fantasy was like I dabbled in it as a child,
- 1:16Speaker 2: but like you said, it was a difficult game. It
- 1:18Speaker 2: was not an easy one to get into, Like it
- 1:20Speaker 2: required a level of reading comprehension and like remembering story
- 1:25Speaker 2: and like I like looking back at some of them,
- 1:27Speaker 2: like the character and story beats you hit or like
- 1:30Speaker 2: a little more intense. I think it really was like
- 1:33Speaker 2: Final Fantasy seven, which I know was like the most
- 1:35Speaker 2: cliche one to get in on, but it's the one
- 1:38Speaker 2: that got me in. But I also then had a
- 1:40Speaker 2: bunch of friends get into Final Fantasy, but all got
- 1:43Speaker 2: into different ones. So like I was playing seven, one
- 1:45Speaker 2: of them was playing I think eight or nine, and
- 1:47Speaker 2: then one of them got really into ten. So we
- 1:49Speaker 2: would like during like our summer days off and stuff,
- 1:52Speaker 2: we would like meet up and discuss like, oh, what's
- 1:54Speaker 2: going on in that game, like like recap me the story.
- 1:57Speaker 2: So it was like a not like it was like
- 1:59Speaker 2: an asynchron is like all play one and divulge the
- 2:01Speaker 2: story to you all, Well you do the same for me.
- 2:04Speaker 2: We all had our different games.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Oh my god, this is a crazy time to reveal
- 2:08Speaker 3: that Drew did not have friends, but he just multiplied
- 2:11Speaker 3: and clothe himself and it was one of those like
- 2:14Speaker 3: like Nicholas Cage's next where he just wanted to absorb
- 2:16Speaker 3: as much Final Fantasy information as possible and just divulge
- 2:20Speaker 3: the story to himself.
- 2:21Speaker 2: I mean, it's the thing two the number of games.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm like, I want to play this game, but I
- 2:25Speaker 2: just don't either have like the patience for it, but
- 2:27Speaker 2: I want to know the story and I'll like read
- 2:29Speaker 2: the wikier watch playthroughs.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I think.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I think similarly because Final Fantasy Final Fantasy seven specifically
- 2:35Speaker 3: so reverent in video game culture. It is people's best
- 2:40Speaker 3: game of all time. It was like their introduction to
- 2:43Speaker 3: this world of anime, which we have Vermage is going
- 2:45Speaker 3: to get into. And I had always been curious but
- 2:49Speaker 3: not enough to get into it. But now that we've
- 2:52Speaker 3: watched this movie, and now that both was a remake
- 2:55Speaker 3: and rebirth are out, Yeah, I think this is I
- 2:58Speaker 3: think that could be one if I'm going to get
- 3:01Speaker 3: into it, That's gonna be the way I get into it.
- 3:03Speaker 3: One of these days, when I'm feeling just anime enough,
- 3:08Speaker 3: I will I will delve into these games because I
- 3:11Speaker 3: am very intrigued. I feel like I'm missing a part
- 3:14Speaker 3: of the culture. Of the zeitgeist.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I mean I can see it too. I think Final
- 3:17Speaker 2: Fantasy has become like such a franchise that like it's
- 3:20Speaker 2: and the nice thing too. It is like the double
- 3:22Speaker 2: edged sword. Here is the double edged giant store that
- 3:25Speaker 2: can crush a person. Is the like they're all unique
- 3:29Speaker 2: in standalone that you can kind of just pick the
- 3:31Speaker 2: one that speaks to you the most, whether it be
- 3:33Speaker 2: like my friends all rave about this one or this one.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I just like the look of it the most. My
- 3:37Speaker 2: personal favorite Final Fantasy was the Game Boy Advanced Final
- 3:40Speaker 2: Fantasy Tactics Advanced, which is just like fire Emblem esque,
- 3:45Speaker 2: like GREATA based combats and all the classic like random
- 3:48Speaker 2: encounter kind of stuff you're used to. Yeah, but I
- 3:50Speaker 2: just felt like I like the story, I like the
- 3:52Speaker 2: art style, like the characters. It just it did a
- 3:54Speaker 2: lot of things right. And also being a handheld game
- 3:56Speaker 2: on a game Boy was like I could take it
- 3:58Speaker 2: on a car ride or I could play it like
- 3:59Speaker 2: on a break school. It wasn't like a I gotta
- 4:02Speaker 2: come home from school, do my homework, clean up, or
- 4:05Speaker 2: do whatever I have to do, and then I can
- 4:07Speaker 2: get like an hour plus of playtime before it's like, Hey,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I gotta stop and go to bed because I'm in
- 4:13Speaker 2: high school and I still love parrots, that you take
- 4:15Speaker 2: care of me and shit so much Lore, so so
- 4:17Speaker 2: much a beating you random frough Lore Fantasy is complicated?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Why do you leave me? Yeah?
- 4:26Speaker 3: And this is the movie which I did not realize
- 4:28Speaker 3: was part of the video game movie.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I didn't realize that it came out so early as well.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I think i'd seen it on Netflix in the twenty
- 4:35Speaker 3: tens and assumed that it came out then. Hell of
- 4:38Speaker 3: a time to reveal that I not only have not
- 4:41Speaker 3: absorbed any Final Fantasy, that this is a straight up
- 4:44Speaker 3: fucking sequel. This is not an adaptation, this is not
- 4:47Speaker 3: this is not any of that. This is just, hey,
- 4:49Speaker 3: did you play Final Fantasy? Good luck, loser, we're in.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, like as someone who played Final Fantasy, and like
- 4:56Speaker 2: I dove into Final Fantasy seven like deep Lore, and
- 5:00Speaker 2: like weird side quest bonus bullshit. This movie does so
- 5:04Speaker 2: little on the handholding side. It genuinely feels like you
- 5:07Speaker 2: need to finish seven, like on a full playthrough, like complete,
- 5:11Speaker 2: don't skip anything, get it all done, and like as
- 5:13Speaker 2: as possible and then as soon as the credits roll
- 5:16Speaker 2: play this movie. I'm also curious this came up and
- 5:22Speaker 2: it was one of those things where, like, I saw
- 5:24Speaker 2: this movie, I was a big fan. I had a
- 5:26Speaker 2: pre order of this at my local game store, like
- 5:28Speaker 2: no name brand game store, like three years before it
- 5:32Speaker 2: came out because they kept delaying it and they actually
- 5:35Speaker 2: closed one under so they only five bucks. But they're gone, bastards.
- 5:40Speaker 2: But to say all that was watching it this time
- 5:43Speaker 2: for the first time in maybe like however many years
- 5:45Speaker 2: since it came out, maybe once since then, I'm like, huh,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I don't remember this part. I don't remember this part. Okay,
- 5:53Speaker 2: something's wrong here. Well I looked it up. Which version
- 5:55Speaker 2: did you watch? That's it. I watched Final Fantasy Set
- 6:00Speaker 2: Semi colon Advan Children hyphen Complete.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Yes, okay, so that's that was also the option that
- 6:06Speaker 3: was veiled to me on Amazon only in Japanese apparently
- 6:09Speaker 3: as well. Oh okay, so interesting. So I don't know
- 6:14Speaker 3: what was missing or what was included. It all felt
- 6:17Speaker 3: so animated to me. There's many you had that were like, oh,
- 6:20Speaker 3: this and this, and I just went listen. Man, they
- 6:23Speaker 3: had me at anime. I'm just a victim. I'm just
- 6:27Speaker 3: a participant. At this point, I have no choice but
- 6:29Speaker 3: to accept the rules of this world.
- 6:32Speaker 2: What's this?
- 6:33Speaker 3: Oh okay, sure, that's kind of my feeling the entire time.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Oh my god, Yes you please. For the people who
- 6:39Speaker 2: aren't familiar with either Final Fantasy seven or Advan Children
- 6:42Speaker 2: or Advent Children Complete, could you please like give us
- 6:45Speaker 2: a brief rundown of what did happen. Two years after
- 6:47Speaker 2: the events of Final Fantasy seven, a disease called geo
- 6:50Speaker 2: stigma is spreading through the planet. Guilt ridden and haunted
- 6:53Speaker 2: by his past, Cloud Streife has decided to live a
- 6:56Speaker 2: secluded life, solitary lifestyle you away from all his friends.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Tiva's Bar has turned into an orphanage for children stricken
- 7:02Speaker 2: by giostigma, and now three mysterious enemies emerge from the
- 7:06Speaker 2: darkness as they like go back to see what happened
- 7:09Speaker 2: to Cephrol after he was defeated, and these three weirdos
- 7:12Speaker 2: seek to finish what Cephro started by bringing him back
- 7:16Speaker 2: from the dead. Hell yeah, and none of that should
- 7:21Speaker 2: make any sense to you unless you played this game,
- 7:23Speaker 2: and even then barely.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I I really try to fall like I and I
- 7:28Speaker 3: think like a good chunk of it is like followable.
- 7:31Speaker 3: You're like, okay, I get the premise that you just
- 7:34Speaker 3: did was perfect and beautiful.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It really does it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: But there are certainly references to what happened in Final
- 7:40Speaker 3: Fantasy seven that they didn't acknowledge by the way they
- 7:44Speaker 3: just went hah and then moved on. They didn't go oh,
- 7:47Speaker 3: they didn't do an EMCU style. This wasn't test screen
- 7:51Speaker 3: to audiences. There was no like reworking of the script
- 7:56Speaker 3: like in modern times. They just went figure it out, stupid,
- 7:59Speaker 3: Why the fuck are you watching this if you haven't
- 8:01Speaker 3: played Final Fantasy seven?
- 8:03Speaker 2: Basically like this really, Like I said, it feels like
- 8:06Speaker 2: the cut scene at the end of a game that
- 8:08Speaker 2: just got too long. So they were like, I guess
- 8:10Speaker 2: put it in a movie.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Theater, which I respect hugely as a as a bystander,
- 8:16Speaker 3: I respect that. As a as an audience member, what
- 8:19Speaker 3: the hell, I'm curious how much of a recap of
- 8:23Speaker 3: the game can you give us?
- 8:24Speaker 2: Then?
- 8:24Speaker 3: I think this was actually pretty long, because first off,
- 8:28Speaker 3: Final Fantasy owned developed and published by Square Phoenix. Final
- 8:31Speaker 3: Fantasy is and anthology role playing video game series, and
- 8:35Speaker 3: what that means is that it's tactical RBG. Sometimes it's
- 8:38Speaker 3: action RBG. Most of the time it's turn based RBG.
- 8:42Speaker 3: But they're all not connected to each other more or less.
- 8:46Speaker 3: So it's legend of Zell the but you collect people
- 8:49Speaker 3: like Pokemon. But there's a lot more spiky hair anime
- 8:53Speaker 3: people than both those franchises combined, both of which are Japanese. So,
- 8:58Speaker 3: but that being said, released an teen ninety seven, Final
- 9:01Speaker 3: Fantasy seven is one everyone thinks about when it comes
- 9:04Speaker 3: to the series, right. That one follows cloud Strife, which,
- 9:08Speaker 3: my god, that sounds a good Transformers character. He's a
- 9:12Speaker 3: mercenary who gets involved in eco terrorism against a mega corporation,
- 9:16Speaker 3: which makes me feel like I should play Final Fantasy seven.
- 9:19Speaker 2: If I'm being honest, honestly, I will say great games.
- 9:22Speaker 2: I've only just started the remake, and I will say
- 9:25Speaker 2: the thing that everyone says about the remake is it's
- 9:27Speaker 2: not a remake.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Yeah, So that was the plot twist of remake, which
- 9:33Speaker 3: is the first one is that it is a time delineation.
- 9:36Speaker 3: So now when people were like criticizing it for being
- 9:39Speaker 3: like a shellless, you know, employ of capitalism, there is
- 9:43Speaker 3: some story beat changes which thankfully the Internet seems to
- 9:47Speaker 3: have pretty much kept in wraps for rebirth. I don't
- 9:50Speaker 3: know anything about that. I know the major spoilers for
- 9:53Speaker 3: Final Fantasy seven because it's how old am I. I'm
- 9:56Speaker 3: twenty eight turning twenty nine. It is thirty years old. Y,
- 10:00Speaker 3: it's older than you.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, which is a shocking revelation my heart. Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 3: So Final Fantasy seven again prolific. That is the recap
- 10:10Speaker 3: for that, and this is a continuation of that story. Uh,
- 10:14Speaker 3: there's many anime people, there's swords what I said, right,
- 10:18Speaker 3: eco terrorists.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but we we got it. We got it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And I will say, like, of all the Final Fantasy games,
- 10:23Speaker 2: like the story that I think is the most like
- 10:24Speaker 2: worth going back to because the whole idea of like
- 10:28Speaker 2: like essentially an analog for Amazon. They are a company
- 10:31Speaker 2: that is so big that they've essentially started to rule
- 10:33Speaker 2: the world. They're in charge of everything, power, buildings, home
- 10:38Speaker 2: trans like everything in the world of Final Fantasy seven
- 10:40Speaker 2: is run by Shinra, the Power Company in some sense. Yeah,
- 10:44Speaker 2: and this is a group of they're labeled Eco terrorists
- 10:47Speaker 2: and they kind of self like they take the title
- 10:49Speaker 2: like you know, not like because they kind of are
- 10:52Speaker 2: but literally the like the world's gonna die unless someone
- 10:54Speaker 2: stops this corporation from literally killing the world. So we're gonna, yeah,
- 10:58Speaker 2: be eco terrorists because it's that or the world ends,
- 11:02Speaker 2: which is summarized in the beginning of this movie. There
- 11:04Speaker 2: is like this exposition bit. It's the first time I
- 11:07Speaker 2: think an exposition bit has happened in these movies, where
- 11:10Speaker 2: one completely necessary, we absolutely needed it, and two it
- 11:16Speaker 2: was too much and too little, like I was like ah,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but then I was also like no, wait, give me more,
- 11:23Speaker 2: this isn't enough. What's happened is everyone's great. It's like
- 11:28Speaker 2: getting punched the phase of information. You're like, yeah, fuck, no,
- 11:31Speaker 2: stop that, and then you're like, wait, I feel like
- 11:33Speaker 2: I missed waight time. I wasn't prepared for the tests
- 11:35Speaker 2: at the same time I got it. I'll take like
- 11:37Speaker 2: three more hits please. Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:39Speaker 3: It was insane. It's so it was so anime. I
- 11:43Speaker 3: just my first note was, oh, I'm just watching an
- 11:46Speaker 3: anime now, and this is familiar territory.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean the anime tropes definitely stick here. I mean, like,
- 11:53Speaker 2: like Cloud is your classic anime protagonist, Like he can't die.
- 11:57Speaker 2: He just magically goes, Nope, I can do a thing
- 11:59Speaker 2: now that I couldn't do thirty seconds ago because the
- 12:01Speaker 2: power of friendship.
- 12:03Speaker 3: No, the power of God and anime drew God.
- 12:05Speaker 1: What did you do that?
- 12:07Speaker 3: When you say that, you are understating it. Brother, we
- 12:09Speaker 3: are talking about Yes, it's the spiky haired yellow guy.
- 12:12Speaker 3: You think he's from Kingdom Hearts. Yes, but he's got
- 12:14Speaker 3: the earrings, he's got the half sleeve shirt sleeve, he's
- 12:20Speaker 3: got the bust he's he doesn't just have the Buster
- 12:22Speaker 3: sword gang, he's got a he's got a motorcycle that
- 12:26Speaker 3: reveals twelve other Buster swords. It drives with wings because
- 12:30Speaker 3: there's so many swords on it, and those swords connect
- 12:33Speaker 3: together into one bigger, better sword.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Oh my god.
- 12:36Speaker 3: And he's jumping and he's leaping and he's doing it's
- 12:40Speaker 3: the matrix physics.
- 12:41Speaker 2: This is again, like again the dragon ballzy comparison. Physics
- 12:44Speaker 2: not a thing in this universe. They do not they
- 12:46Speaker 2: do not count for anything.
- 12:48Speaker 3: My brother in Christ, I felt so sagoy. It was insane.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Oh when I first started, when I first started this script,
- 12:56Speaker 3: I was like, oh, I'm watching anime. This is familiar territory.
- 12:59Speaker 3: I didn't realize and there's so many notes we're gonna
- 13:01Speaker 3: get to each story bit. But every single time a
- 13:04Speaker 3: trope happened, I was like, is this where the tropes
- 13:07Speaker 3: happened or it came from? Because like slap me across
- 13:10Speaker 3: the face and call me in otaku. Uh, Like I
- 13:14Speaker 3: couldn't handle it. I felt Pocky's up my ass like
- 13:18Speaker 3: it was insane.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Oh my god. And the characters they cut for the
- 13:23Speaker 2: movie that you didn't get more of that would have
- 13:24Speaker 2: really ruined you.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Are you use this for real? Because there was you mentioned.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Let's get into it. Yeah.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So, like you said, it starts with the exposition
- 13:32Speaker 2: drop that is like so much. It really just feels
- 13:36Speaker 2: like putting proper nouns on things you're never gonna need
- 13:38Speaker 2: to know about, but just so that when they say them,
- 13:41Speaker 2: you're not like, oh, I've never heard of that. It's like, oh,
- 13:43Speaker 2: that's the thing they mentioned in the opening. I don't
- 13:44Speaker 2: know what it is, but they mentioned it so many times.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I was just like, uh, yeah, that guy.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And like I think they could have done like gonna
- 13:51Speaker 2: be like two more minutes of exposition and given like
- 13:53Speaker 2: a little more of like why they were terrorists? What
- 13:57Speaker 2: the company did, and why the world's the way it
- 13:59Speaker 2: is now instead just being like, oh, yeah, the world
- 14:01Speaker 2: was ending and then the live stream, you know, the
- 14:03Speaker 2: live stream stop the world from ending because reasons. Yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 2: that's a great point because they went by the way
- 14:11Speaker 2: the earth is alive. Oh yeah, yeah, we just the thing. Yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 2: it just plops in into it.
- 14:18Speaker 3: I do want to know as well, other than being
- 14:20Speaker 3: confronted with the fact that this is just an anime,
- 14:22Speaker 3: first impressions, is really interesting animation style. I think it's
- 14:29Speaker 3: I think it's very marred. I think it's very like
- 14:32Speaker 3: controversial because it hits the uncanny Valley. This was released
- 14:36Speaker 3: in two thousand and five, which for two thousand and
- 14:38Speaker 3: five stunning technology, I want to say, because it gave
- 14:44Speaker 3: pre rendered PS three cut scene to me, like that
- 14:48Speaker 3: was the quality of it. But this was two thousand
- 14:50Speaker 3: and five, which I'm pretty sure was still the PS
- 14:52Speaker 3: two era, so pretty good. But there's a reason James
- 14:57Speaker 3: Cameron waited to do Avatar, right, Yeah, we're going to
- 15:01Speaker 3: talk about the life stream and stuff like that. Very
- 15:03Speaker 3: similar themes and so and so forth, Like say what
- 15:06Speaker 3: you will about Avatar visually, especially for two thousand and nine,
- 15:09Speaker 3: I think it's it's good. It's it's it's a it's
- 15:13Speaker 3: you know, yeah, it's a technological venture and it works.
- 15:18Speaker 1: This not so much.
- 15:20Speaker 2: I think this is hitting. I think you hit hit
- 15:21Speaker 2: really well with the PS three era style of pre
- 15:23Speaker 2: Indero graphics. Is the it feels like a video game
- 15:27Speaker 2: cut scene. It feels like out of a video game.
- 15:30Speaker 2: And I think that the fact that it is so
- 15:32Speaker 2: video gamy works to its advantage a little bit here. Yeah, it.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Hasn't ye horrifically, it almost feels like its own type
- 15:42Speaker 3: of animation stuff.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yes, the fact that it isn't it's not trying to
- 15:46Speaker 2: emulate real life. It's like, yes, little things like Cloud's
- 15:49Speaker 2: hair is made a little bit more like sensible for
- 15:52Speaker 2: the sake of like a person having this kind of
- 15:54Speaker 2: really like yeah, yeah, you go back to the PS
- 15:59Speaker 2: one cut scenes and his hair is like actually, like
- 16:01Speaker 2: looks like someone just photoshop Goku in real life. It's terrible,
- 16:04Speaker 2: that's hilarious. They're also pis on graphics. They're super block
- 16:07Speaker 2: even in the.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Good Yeah, I guess I was giving it some credence
- 16:10Speaker 3: because of that.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Yeah, like there's still a level of like we have
- 16:14Speaker 2: to make things a little believable, very very little to
- 16:19Speaker 2: at least make it grounded in like a form of
- 16:21Speaker 2: reality that could physically exist.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Maybe, right, I gotcha. I think it also speaks to
- 16:27Speaker 3: I mean, I made fun of it, but I think
- 16:30Speaker 3: also that Final Fantasy just has its own type of
- 16:36Speaker 3: how do I say this? It has its own style
- 16:39Speaker 3: because the character designs in this movie, I don't think
- 16:42Speaker 3: it's too far off from character designs they used decades later. Like,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I don't know which one it is, but it's the
- 16:48Speaker 3: Final Fantasy where you're just a boy band road tripping across. Yeah,
- 16:52Speaker 3: that's what I think. Is America or Japan. Yeah, they
- 16:55Speaker 3: all look like Cloud's cousins, right, Like they they look similar,
- 16:59Speaker 3: and so I think, while it's cheesy now, it was
- 17:04Speaker 3: a blueprint and they've really stuck to their identity, which
- 17:08Speaker 3: is overtly anime. I just want you to know, listener,
- 17:12Speaker 3: if you are not remotely familiar, like if you watch
- 17:16Speaker 3: Dragon ball Z, this is not it for you. Like
- 17:18Speaker 3: this is so much more intense. I need you to
- 17:21Speaker 3: have watched a least like name at least five animes
- 17:23Speaker 3: that you've seen before you can enter this because you're
- 17:27Speaker 3: just gonna sit there and be like, wait.
- 17:28Speaker 1: No, it's not.
- 17:31Speaker 3: It's not gatekeeping. It's it's it's gatekeeping for your safety.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Like it's a warning. Yeah, it's a it's a deep dive, brother,
- 17:39Speaker 3: Like this is this is dangerous to your health, you know,
- 17:43Speaker 3: like the human body is not ready for that much
- 17:46Speaker 3: soft piano and monologue.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Oh my god. Yeah. Like so I will say, like
- 17:52Speaker 2: the music if this is straight out of the Games,
- 17:54Speaker 2: and like it's it's the same composer. It's not my
- 17:58Speaker 2: favorite music, it's like yeah, and things like a fight
- 18:02Speaker 2: scene would start and I would be like, oh, I
- 18:04Speaker 2: know what song they're going to use here, and it
- 18:05Speaker 2: would hit and I would just be like, yes, like
- 18:07Speaker 2: they's just call in nostalgia. I'm a thousand percent sure
- 18:11Speaker 2: of it. But like, oh, the music choices here, the
- 18:14Speaker 2: hits of the music here are just so perfect.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that's sick. That's sick.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Okay, So yeah, it's it's it's We can tell by
- 18:22Speaker 3: the fact that it's a sequel, this is very.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Faithful to the Games.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Yes, yes, which I love the concept of I did
- 18:30Speaker 3: not realize that part of this movie would be I
- 18:33Speaker 3: knew action would happen. I kind of got like Matrix vibes,
- 18:36Speaker 3: so I knew monologues and philosophy would happen. This is
- 18:39Speaker 3: all territory of anime. I didn't know this was kind
- 18:42Speaker 3: of gonna be a slice of life anime as well,
- 18:44Speaker 3: because I get I didn't know much about the personal
- 18:48Speaker 3: relationships of Final Fantasy sevens characters, but I did not
- 18:51Speaker 3: realize that I would be getting into the messy family
- 18:53Speaker 3: drama of Cloud and Tifa's orphan family.
- 18:56Speaker 1: What the hell is this?
- 18:58Speaker 2: Also one of the things I had to look this
- 19:00Speaker 2: up because I couldn't remember if it was a thing
- 19:01Speaker 2: or not. One of the girls, the Marlene, the little daughter,
- 19:04Speaker 2: the one who gets like kidnapped and rescued at the end,
- 19:06Speaker 2: one who's not sick. Yeah, yeah, that's that's that's not
- 19:09Speaker 2: that's actually one of their friends kids. They're just watching
- 19:12Speaker 2: guy was a gun for an arm. That's just his daughter.
- 19:14Speaker 2: That's his daughter, but his adopted daughter, because it's his
- 19:18Speaker 2: best friend's daughter who died.
- 19:20Speaker 3: I think I could pretty much clue that in based
- 19:22Speaker 3: on skin color. That's also pretty true, like not biological. Yeah, anyways,
- 19:28Speaker 3: what I did not realize is that, yeah, the blended
- 19:32Speaker 3: family apparently they're just watching their friend's fucking kid. But
- 19:35Speaker 3: you alluded to it. So Cloud is off on his own.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Tifa I didn't know Tifa at a bar and became
- 19:40Speaker 3: an orphanage. But it's very clear that this is like
- 19:44Speaker 3: unrequited love. Tifa is like, okay, so like the love
- 19:47Speaker 3: of your life died, but I'm here and I live
- 19:51Speaker 3: with you, apparently because they keep mentioning why'd you leave us?
- 19:54Speaker 3: And won't you come home? And also I adopted kids
- 19:56Speaker 3: with you? Would you please fucking come home? Please come home?
- 20:00Speaker 3: And Cloud's like, ah, I got I have mental health
- 20:03Speaker 3: issues and trauma and I need to And then his
- 20:05Speaker 3: kids are like, please come home, dad, please, we miss you, father.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh my god, somebody, somebody get fucking
- 20:13Speaker 3: Cloud home.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Please. Oh yeah, I mean so much. The story is
- 20:17Speaker 2: just like, so what, you have mental health issues, we
- 20:20Speaker 2: can deal with them together. We still care about you
- 20:22Speaker 2: and will help. Yeah, you understand, no, but out there
- 20:25Speaker 2: are I need to get a moody and brooding on
- 20:28Speaker 2: my own. I have some kind of children.
- 20:31Speaker 3: Yeah, And he's like he's got a terminal disease, which
- 20:36Speaker 3: is kind of like an STD from the Earth or
- 20:38Speaker 3: something like that yeah, pretty I think right right, Okay,
- 20:41Speaker 3: that's not far off.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I followed and you can basically fucking the planet, so
- 20:46Speaker 2: it really is.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember life stream stream there you go, yes,
- 20:53Speaker 3: life stream? Uh yeah, And like literally, Tifa confronts him
- 20:57Speaker 3: and she's like, so what You're just gonna let it
- 20:59Speaker 3: kill you? I mean, we live in anime. This is
- 21:01Speaker 3: definitely terrible. You could just fight it will and he's like, no, I.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Just gotta like I can't do this anymore.
- 21:08Speaker 3: I think one of his kids calls him out. She's like,
- 21:11Speaker 3: so you just left us and yeah, oh yeah, Martin
- 21:13Speaker 3: Lue's like, she's like, fuck it.
- 21:15Speaker 2: She is.
- 21:15Speaker 3: She is a mouthpiece in this movie and she's so good.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I forgot what she said. But she really does confront
- 21:21Speaker 3: him and she's like, why'd you leave us?
- 21:23Speaker 1: Because I had to do things on my own.
- 21:25Speaker 3: We could help. Why don't you let us help? Please
- 21:28Speaker 3: come home, father.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Of children, Come home, Dad number three, because that's the
- 21:33Speaker 2: third dad I've known. Now. I like your on the
- 21:36Speaker 2: Love Story because it's actually like one of those things
- 21:38Speaker 2: like the game did so well and everything since is
- 21:41Speaker 2: kind of like I feel like muddled is the right
- 21:43Speaker 2: word because they don't blatantly tell you which of the
- 21:48Speaker 2: two is his love interest, Tifa or Earth like right like,
- 21:52Speaker 2: they never go so far as to give you one
- 21:54Speaker 2: or the other. In fact, I think it's actually quite
- 21:56Speaker 2: well done. There is a point in the game where
- 21:59Speaker 2: bear with me, they end up at a weird Disneyland
- 22:02Speaker 2: esque casino place, and prior to cross dressing Cloud to
- 22:07Speaker 2: break into a brothel, he does have a day to
- 22:09Speaker 2: go on a date with one of them, and you
- 22:12Speaker 2: actually get a choice of either going on a date
- 22:13Speaker 2: with Arth or Tifa, or you can opt to go
- 22:18Speaker 2: for Barrett instead, where he is very much like the
- 22:21Speaker 2: what the fuck are we doing? Why is this happening?
- 22:23Speaker 2: Why would you?
- 22:24Speaker 3: That's the only choice, dear listeners, If you choose anything else,
- 22:29Speaker 3: you're wrong.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I will actually say. Really funny is that we recently
- 22:33Speaker 2: had the final Fantasy Magic Crossover and there raise a
- 22:35Speaker 2: card called Conversation. I think it's like Faithful Encounter, and
- 22:38Speaker 2: it's that the artist Cloud and Tifa sitting together on
- 22:41Speaker 2: the like Farris Wheel, it kind of like the famous
- 22:44Speaker 2: shot from the game, and they printed three variants of it,
- 22:47Speaker 2: so they have a version of Tifa, Earth or Barrett,
- 22:49Speaker 2: and they each have a quote from them at the bottom,
- 22:51Speaker 2: and it's just Bart going, what the hell is this.
- 22:55Speaker 3: So good? Oh?
- 22:57Speaker 2: Some fun some funny, weird shit in that game, but
- 23:00Speaker 2: in fact that they never really like committed to one.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And then this kind of brilliant.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Video game Japanese video game franchises, because I think it's
- 23:10Speaker 3: recently they revealed that, uh, Mario.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Is just a good friend.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's a classic things yes, Yeahlda.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And then Ash never got a love interest either from Pokemon.
- 23:23Speaker 2: I think, I know we get he gets kissed in
- 23:25Speaker 2: the very last season of his There is a I know,
- 23:28Speaker 2: I know there was no one true love for Ash.
- 23:32Speaker 2: His love is the game.
- 23:34Speaker 3: I was just about to say, the fucking the pursuit,
- 23:39Speaker 3: you know, even he got Pokemon, Yeah that he got
- 23:42Speaker 3: Pokemon Champion, he got depressed. It was ever as good,
- 23:45Speaker 3: you know, God, he kept chasing that high. That was
- 23:48Speaker 3: Pokemon Advent Children for you.
- 23:57Speaker 2: So we do get our first fight scene in the again,
- 24:00Speaker 2: like I like, who kind of starts like quick like
- 24:01Speaker 2: we have kind of like a little bit of intro,
- 24:03Speaker 2: a little bit of like like building where we are
- 24:05Speaker 2: for those who know where the movie is. And it's
- 24:07Speaker 2: a few years later. Uh, and then it's just yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 2: Cloud moping around by your dead best friend slash potential
- 24:13Speaker 2: ex lover's grave. Nope, random boys on motorcycle fight.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I just got such a lower dump.
- 24:19Speaker 2: The whole, the whole Zach thing is is like a
- 24:21Speaker 2: plot that the game doesn't cover. It's actually a separate game.
- 24:24Speaker 2: Oh yes, it's just Zach's name. Isn't like Buckle Maverick. Nope,
- 24:30Speaker 2: he has the most normal last name, Zach. Yeah, Zach
- 24:34Speaker 2: and Vincent to like we were like even Vincent like
- 24:36Speaker 2: kind of works with Zach is but like.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Isn't Vincent's name Vincent Valentine or some shit? Yes, yes, okay, yeah,
- 24:42Speaker 3: I get fucked. No, yeah, that's like that's like when
- 24:45Speaker 3: someone gets like dead names, you know, like Cloud is
- 24:49Speaker 3: his new name, but Vince like Zach kept his name.
- 24:52Speaker 1: He hasn't faked one out yet.
- 24:53Speaker 2: No, Zach's whole backstory is like hinted at in the
- 24:56Speaker 2: game and they give you just enough and then it's
- 24:58Speaker 2: a separate game that came out time between this movie
- 25:01Speaker 2: and the game that explains Zach's history with Cloud and
- 25:05Speaker 2: like the gay romance energy is fucking over the top.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Yeah okay, well yeah. Oh, I'll say this, No matter
- 25:13Speaker 3: how over the top it is, it isn't as bad
- 25:15Speaker 3: as these three villains that we get. This is what
- 25:17Speaker 3: I mean. Listener, if you have not watched enough animes,
- 25:20Speaker 3: you're not ready for these three fucking stooges.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Watched enough anime. I don't think I was ready for them,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and I still don't the guy.
- 25:27Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. Dude, all right, so we got
- 25:30Speaker 3: we got. We got one guy. He's he's classic, right,
- 25:33Speaker 3: He's the big, muscular, dumb buff guy. We get that.
- 25:36Speaker 3: Then there's another guy who like super fem but has
- 25:40Speaker 3: the deepest voice ever. Hello Felix from Stray Kids. But
- 25:44Speaker 3: then we get the middle guy, right, and that guy's
- 25:46Speaker 3: a little sadistic. And then the middle guy's like, hey,
- 25:49Speaker 3: I'm the I'm the I'm the rambunctious youngster, but I'm
- 25:53Speaker 3: evil inside and I and I love children.
- 25:57Speaker 1: What the fuck is happening? Man? What is appen? Oh?
- 26:00Speaker 2: God? And like there's this running thing where it's like
- 26:03Speaker 2: the thing they're after, and like again for the sake
- 26:06Speaker 2: of like understanding the plot, they're after some of the
- 26:09Speaker 2: remaining DNA of the alien that they ceph off and
- 26:13Speaker 2: Cloud were made from along with a bunch of other people. Ah,
- 26:16Speaker 2: alien DNA put in people, and yes, they see this
- 26:19Speaker 2: thing as mother.
- 26:21Speaker 1: They're there.
- 26:22Speaker 3: They're the trope that is like the Fate Sisters where
- 26:25Speaker 3: it's like they're three. Ultimately they're just three remnants or
- 26:31Speaker 3: pieces of cephyrorof right that that's what's alluded to, is
- 26:35Speaker 3: that these three white haired boys. By the way, that
- 26:37Speaker 3: was the other part about this is they're all black
- 26:40Speaker 3: leather clad twinks with white hair. It's the big one
- 26:44Speaker 3: is a twink. Fuck it, even him is a twink
- 26:46Speaker 3: man like. It's it's tough, like Cloud is stacked. Cloud
- 26:51Speaker 3: is way buffer than I ever hope to be. He's
- 26:53Speaker 3: a twink.
- 26:54Speaker 2: Still.
- 26:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, there's something about it. If you're a fan
- 26:58Speaker 3: of K pop and you have a b you're not
- 27:00Speaker 3: ready for the amount of pretty men that there are
- 27:04Speaker 3: in this movie. Where was it going with this?
- 27:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we were talking about these three nut jobs. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 2: but yeah, the whole thing where it's like they keep
- 27:12Speaker 2: telling each other not to cry, and I think we
- 27:14Speaker 2: see at least two of them legitimately cry at some point.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yes one, yes, over mommy, I think so. The deep
- 27:21Speaker 2: voice one is Laws and then the dumbest fucking name
- 27:24Speaker 2: is the really the other one with the one of
- 27:25Speaker 2: the guns, who's like the least developed Yazoo, they both
- 27:29Speaker 2: caught crying at least once.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Oh no, yeah, Zoo is the deep voiced one. Loss
- 27:34Speaker 3: is just the guy. He let Zoo like you think
- 27:36Speaker 3: he's got but he's he's super deep voiced. Yeah.
- 27:40Speaker 2: And I also feel like, I mean, maybe it's just
- 27:41Speaker 2: even like Cadash in Yazoo, the two non buff ones,
- 27:44Speaker 2: I feel like there's so little that like differentiate them.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Sometimes It's like, sometimes if they're alone in the scene,
- 27:50Speaker 2: I'm like, until someone says their name, I don't know
- 27:52Speaker 2: which one it is, dude.
- 27:53Speaker 3: That's how I feel about K pop stars, and I'm Asian.
- 27:56Speaker 3: It is it is in an epidemic one in this
- 27:59Speaker 3: movie particular, not my rant above k pop stars looking
- 28:02Speaker 3: the same, but in this one, one white haired individual
- 28:05Speaker 3: is shoulder length hair and the other one is like
- 28:08Speaker 3: chest length hair. How are you differentiate the two? Speaking
- 28:13Speaker 3: of one of them, the one they have a sword gun.
- 28:18Speaker 3: You mentioned it. I was familiar with the concept of
- 28:20Speaker 3: sword guns because Final Fantasy. This truly was like a
- 28:24Speaker 3: sword gun, though I don't mean like a lot of
- 28:26Speaker 3: sword guns. They're just big bayonets, like imagine a bayonet,
- 28:31Speaker 3: but so large it looks like it's the gun. This
- 28:33Speaker 3: is literally just a fucking sword that shoots like the
- 28:36Speaker 3: tip of the blade is the barrel. Holy shit, man,
- 28:40Speaker 3: he's he's, he's, he's thrown out a piece and it's
- 28:43Speaker 3: a fucking sword.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Like, what's happening.
- 28:46Speaker 3: He's got it sideways and it's a fucking sword.
- 28:49Speaker 2: It's shares his gun with the other guy, like Laws
- 28:53Speaker 2: occasionally gets to use the gun, Like that's hilarious. There's
- 28:55Speaker 2: times with they're bow shooting and it's like, oh, just
- 28:57Speaker 2: he has two of them. It's what a sweetheart he's
- 28:59Speaker 2: sharing with his brother. Oh my god. But these three
- 29:03Speaker 2: like yeah, you put it well, like the term they
- 29:05Speaker 2: keep using and like I think they even use it
- 29:06Speaker 2: derogatorily towards them more than once is remnant. And I
- 29:10Speaker 2: feel like and again this is one of those like
- 29:12Speaker 2: I again know this lore. I feel like I should
- 29:16Speaker 2: be able to tell you like, oh, they represent the
- 29:17Speaker 2: three aspects of Sepharrof in these three ways, not even
- 29:20Speaker 2: a little bit. I couldn't. I could not in a
- 29:22Speaker 2: million year tell you what they stand for.
- 29:23Speaker 3: I could, I could. I could see it as well.
- 29:26Speaker 3: I was thinking about that because Cepharrov is such this
- 29:28Speaker 3: prolific villain that even I know who he is, I
- 29:31Speaker 3: don't know what he's about other than being the most
- 29:34Speaker 3: anime villain ever. Turns out listener, that's all it is.
- 29:37Speaker 3: He's pretty much yeah, he's just he is pretty flat. Yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 3: as a he is the best anime villain, but he's
- 29:45Speaker 3: just an anime villain. There's no like yes on it.
- 29:48Speaker 3: He's the prototype. So I I kind of took it
- 29:52Speaker 3: as well. We need we need a villain, obviously, but
- 29:55Speaker 3: we can't just do Sephrov reducs. That's not interesting. So
- 29:59Speaker 3: I honestly give him respect in the sense that like, yes,
- 30:02Speaker 3: these villains are probably not as interesting or as cool,
- 30:05Speaker 3: because there's always gonna be like I can imagine it now,
- 30:08Speaker 3: it's just some neck beard Fedora wearing discord mod who's like,
- 30:13Speaker 3: Sepharrov is the best, and it's like, yes, he is.
- 30:16Speaker 3: You need to have something different, So now we have juvenile,
- 30:19Speaker 3: rambunctious to impulsive version of Stephrov. Yeah, and goons, and
- 30:28Speaker 3: like goons.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Obviously we do get a return of stephro Off at
- 30:31Speaker 2: the very end for like one fight scene, and there
- 30:33Speaker 2: is some good banter there between him and Cloud. But like,
- 30:36Speaker 2: I think if that was the villain for the entire movie,
- 30:39Speaker 2: it would not be nearly as enjoyable as these three
- 30:42Speaker 2: idiots are because they at least have a little more personality.
- 30:46Speaker 2: They're kind of like there's a level, Like I think
- 30:49Speaker 2: part of what the room trying to get at and
- 30:50Speaker 2: they do well is that they are kind of childish.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Like the whole it bounces very well, now that you've
- 30:58Speaker 3: said that out loud. I couldn't edge in a two
- 31:00Speaker 3: hour movie with just cepher Off in Cloud at it
- 31:03Speaker 3: at each other's throats, just two brooding boys.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Oh God is as bad as Cloud it comes to
- 31:10Speaker 2: the brooding ship. They're for different reasons.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Pump my veins of Frank Miller's nineteen eighties run of Batman.
- 31:17Speaker 3: How much edge, Lord can you take?
- 31:19Speaker 1: Am?
- 31:19Speaker 3: I is my mainwash? Oh I've Some are right off
- 31:24Speaker 3: the cuff, some are written down. This is I've I
- 31:28Speaker 3: unfortunately like have never lived this, but I live adjacent
- 31:32Speaker 3: enough of it where I went, Oh, this is what
- 31:35Speaker 3: it's like to be insufferable.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I now understand.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I get it.
- 31:40Speaker 3: I love because it's it's everything that I love, just
- 31:45Speaker 3: to the umpty degree I've I live in the world
- 31:47Speaker 3: of anime. Not to this degree, my guy, I ain't here.
- 31:52Speaker 2: You know, this is this like it's funny because I
- 31:54Speaker 2: love this and even but I can clearly see its faults.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Oh my god, clearly because listen, listen, this is this is.
- 32:01Speaker 3: So we go from that scene and we go the
- 32:03Speaker 3: next scene.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I went.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I was high as a kite and this this took
- 32:06Speaker 3: me aback. So we get to we get to some
- 32:10Speaker 3: plot development or or moving of the of the plot
- 32:14Speaker 3: where former CEO founder of Shinra is apologetic. Wow, what
- 32:21Speaker 3: a And he truly seems to be apologetic. He seems
- 32:23Speaker 3: to be taken on the role of like Professor x uh.
- 32:26Speaker 3: And that's not just because of the wheelchair. He's like
- 32:28Speaker 3: assembling a team uh. And he's and he thinks of
- 32:32Speaker 3: a larger perspective of this world than humanity together. And
- 32:37Speaker 3: god is it's just so anime. It's it's this. It's
- 32:42Speaker 3: this shrouded not with a cape or hood, by the way,
- 32:44Speaker 3: just with like a fucking towel. It's this shrouded figured
- 32:48Speaker 3: man in a wheelchair talking about consequence and future and philosophy,
- 32:54Speaker 3: and you can obviously tell that he's beautiful underneath.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Well, I think the idea is of trying to like again,
- 33:00Speaker 2: like so again, he's a character we have, I as
- 33:03Speaker 2: someone who's played the games, kind of very murdered in
- 33:09Speaker 2: the game Ye shocking. So the idea is that he's
- 33:13Speaker 2: probably disfigured. He has the geo stigma it's alluded to,
- 33:17Speaker 2: so he probably is hiding his face because he's, you know,
- 33:19Speaker 2: disfigured and hideous, and that's what powerful why he's seeing
- 33:23Speaker 2: the like you know, seeing the light of like, oh,
- 33:25Speaker 2: like the world isn't perfect, but I can make it
- 33:27Speaker 2: better instead of just stealing from it.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Absolutely, it's wonderful that you know that, because that is
- 33:32Speaker 3: that is the implication because of the towel, that he's disfigured.
- 33:35Speaker 3: What the parts that we don't see beautiful like the
- 33:42Speaker 3: skin care Oh yeah, gorgeous man chisel jaw rhinoplasty knows
- 33:47Speaker 3: like the parts we don't see. It is then later
- 33:49Speaker 3: revealed in the movie when he's completely fucking okay, like
- 33:52Speaker 3: I think he even like jumps off of the wheelchair
- 33:55Speaker 3: that he's just beautiful.
- 33:57Speaker 1: That he is.
- 33:59Speaker 2: He is still a stunning, gorgeous man, and he could walk.
- 34:03Speaker 2: But he's perfect, Like they're all perfect because they're all
- 34:06Speaker 2: based off of three model. But you could just hear
- 34:09Speaker 2: it in the deep Japanese voice that you can imagine
- 34:11Speaker 2: it in. And then the next scene is tifa in
- 34:16Speaker 2: like an abandoned cathedral is what it seems like with
- 34:20Speaker 2: God Ray Show, like shining through the dilapidated roof speaking
- 34:24Speaker 2: to a child, and the loudest, softest piano is being
- 34:29Speaker 2: like being high writing down like this is so anime. No, no,
- 34:35Speaker 2: this is so anime. It doesn't fucking stop.
- 34:38Speaker 1: Man. I was ecstatic and also confused, knowing that I'd
- 34:45Speaker 1: seen this movie enough in the past, and like, yeah, know,
- 34:48Speaker 1: well enough, I also go h to watch this one.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Yeah yeah.
- 34:51Speaker 3: Honestly, when I'm shocked by speaking out loud, why did
- 34:54Speaker 3: we have a funeral scene in the rain where someone
- 34:57Speaker 3: confessed their love to another, I honestly am set that
- 35:00Speaker 3: that didn't happen to soft piano music and an outro
- 35:04Speaker 3: that's brutal to me. Now I feel cheated out of
- 35:07Speaker 3: If I'm being honest, it.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Was only room for so many tropes. I don't know, man,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I don't care. Actually, you know, they put in twenty
- 35:16Speaker 2: extra minutes of content, most of being the fucking scenes
- 35:18Speaker 2: with the stupid child they could have.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Oh okay, I see, I see.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Yeah. The majority was like that Denzil uh Cutzel cuts in. Also, Denzil,
- 35:29Speaker 2: what a name? What a name? Denzil.
- 35:34Speaker 3: The American names that the Japanese pulled is hilarious. Rufus
- 35:39Speaker 3: Zach Denzel. Yes, hell yeah, it's amazing.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Oh I mean we're at the church now. We have
- 35:48Speaker 2: one of one of our next fight scenes and again
- 35:50Speaker 2: like what a fucking stellar fight scene between Tifa and Laws,
- 35:54Speaker 2: the chunky one with this weird electric fist.
- 35:58Speaker 1: The chunky one.
- 35:59Speaker 2: He says, I meant like just like he's like building
- 36:03Speaker 2: full of muscles, Like he's just like there's he's a
- 36:05Speaker 2: chunk of a man.
- 36:06Speaker 3: This is how this is how like much this movie
- 36:09Speaker 3: has gas lit us. We are now in the camp
- 36:12Speaker 3: that if you have any b m I at all,
- 36:14Speaker 3: your plus size, get the fuck off the screen, you
- 36:17Speaker 3: fat lardo, Like like everyone hears a twink or fat
- 36:22Speaker 3: Oh no, this is.
- 36:23Speaker 2: This is the movie of twins and twunks. There's no in.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Between twiggs and twunks, twigs and twunks. Sounds like this
- 36:30Speaker 3: beginning of the fucking like like Alice in Wonderland. Tweets
- 36:35Speaker 3: and twunks and dinks and dunks and wibbl dedoo's and
- 36:39Speaker 3: wibbed whops.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Funking. I'm high right now.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Where we're in Final Fantasy Folk.
- 36:47Speaker 2: Oh god, yeah, but we get this, but we do
- 36:49Speaker 2: get an amazing fight scene between between a female twink
- 36:52Speaker 2: and a twunk.
- 36:54Speaker 1: Between a female tweek.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Speaking of twinks and twunks and dinks and dunks, let's
- 36:57Speaker 3: talk about our favorite duo of tweet De and tweedled
- 37:00Speaker 3: dumb Reno and Rude. Reno and Rude that's their name.
- 37:04Speaker 3: So I was trying to think of it.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Oh my god, I love it.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I love it.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Oh yeah. They they are genuinely the like top tier
- 37:12Speaker 2: secondary characters. They are the Final Fantasy Bulk and Skull
- 37:15Speaker 2: from Power Rangers. It is so good.
- 37:19Speaker 3: But they're Burton Ernie there whatever your favorite version of
- 37:24Speaker 3: those duo are right once, there's something Banana.
- 37:27Speaker 2: There's something about them and I don't know what it is,
- 37:29Speaker 2: and I think maybe it's fact. They are just like
- 37:30Speaker 2: goons and they use like police batons as their weapons,
- 37:34Speaker 2: like nothing fancy. I feel like like there's moments where
- 37:36Speaker 2: it's like like usually like they have no powers. They
- 37:39Speaker 2: are the yam shot in this universe. They they they
- 37:41Speaker 2: are there. They will put up a good fight, but
- 37:44Speaker 2: ultimately they will lose and like they get their asses
- 37:46Speaker 2: handed them repeatedly. I mean, fucking Reno's introduction is Cloud
- 37:51Speaker 2: tricks him out a door and then locks them outside
- 37:53Speaker 2: like and then the door, like through the door.
- 37:58Speaker 3: He's like, no, no, I need to Yeah, yeah, no, you're
- 38:02Speaker 3: I think you've nailed it on the head too. Because
- 38:04Speaker 3: they're also adjacent from Clouds. So they're like Senra corporate men,
- 38:07Speaker 3: which is why they wear suits. They're like security guards,
- 38:09Speaker 3: I think is the deal or like whatever Rufus's.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Bodyguards, thugs goons.
- 38:16Speaker 3: So from what I understand, they're not in Final Fantasy
- 38:18Speaker 3: seven the game from oh.
- 38:20Speaker 2: They are they oh times they are like their enemies,
- 38:24Speaker 2: the party members mies.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Okay, okay, So then that makes them perfect because they're
- 38:29Speaker 3: not people that you have necessarily emotional attachment to, but
- 38:33Speaker 3: they are aligned with Cloud. They're not Clouds homeies, but
- 38:37Speaker 3: they're like aligned with Cloud, and I think that's a
- 38:39Speaker 3: perfect amount of separation.
- 38:41Speaker 2: Yeah, but it also creates this weird divide where it's
- 38:44Speaker 2: like it feels crazy. Like there's a point where like
- 38:46Speaker 2: they both get knocked over during one of the bigger
- 38:48Speaker 2: fights into the end of the movie and like get
- 38:50Speaker 2: sent flying and like a sign falls on them, and
- 38:52Speaker 2: it's like that should have killed them. They should be dead.
- 38:55Speaker 2: They're normal humans. They are magical. Yeah, by the same extent,
- 38:59Speaker 2: we watched Tifa in this current fight scene with with
- 39:02Speaker 2: Laws and like she should be dead. Yeah, no one
- 39:07Speaker 2: should survive the thing she goes through, but it's totally
- 39:10Speaker 2: fine because she's a badass superperson.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I was about to say this is where the anime
- 39:14Speaker 3: got me, when like you made your note about physics
- 39:16Speaker 3: and physics not caring in this world, I was like, yes,
- 39:19Speaker 3: it's anime.
- 39:19Speaker 2: It gets exactly. It's anime.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Log Like.
- 39:23Speaker 3: You gave them the label of yamshow, which I don't
- 39:25Speaker 3: think is too far off. But maybe they're more like
- 39:27Speaker 3: Tien and Chou Su, you know, I like child stronger
- 39:30Speaker 3: than ye Yamsha somehow, like they're participating. Again, if you
- 39:34Speaker 3: haven't watched five anime, you're not gonna do this episode.
- 39:37Speaker 3: You're not gonna get this movie, and I really do apologize.
- 39:39Speaker 3: I hope, I hope you're here for the ride. But
- 39:41Speaker 3: some of these things are just not gonna make sense.
- 39:43Speaker 3: They're they're they're just enough because there are a couple
- 39:46Speaker 3: of moments where people are like, I'm gonna go fight
- 39:49Speaker 3: this giant dragon and then they know this supposed real
- 39:53Speaker 3: life human being is like six stories up of rafters,
- 39:56Speaker 3: like it's it's it's insane.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Oh god, that.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Because he brought a spear a spear to fight a dragon.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I don't know who the fuck.
- 40:02Speaker 1: That guy is.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Scene is also one of those characters. He's
- 40:05Speaker 2: a party member. He has a main character in the
- 40:07Speaker 2: game that it also feels so like you're just a
- 40:12Speaker 2: guy with a stick. What are you doing?
- 40:14Speaker 3: That truly was we're gonna get to that scene. It
- 40:17Speaker 3: was truly mine numbing. But so things just kind of
- 40:20Speaker 3: move along, right, things just kind of yeah, long.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Moment where it's like he's having a conversation with Tifa
- 40:26Speaker 2: about like not giving up the whole uh that weird
- 40:28Speaker 2: line that like they had to explain later. No one
- 40:32Speaker 2: got it the dilly dally shilly shallly thing because apparently
- 40:35Speaker 2: that's like a Japanese expression that like just doesn't translate
- 40:37Speaker 2: to English. Well, but it basically just like, yeah, you're
- 40:40Speaker 2: just looking for excuses to not do things. You're just
- 40:42Speaker 2: like you're you're dragging your feet rather than just getting
- 40:44Speaker 2: shit done.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I could see it, Yeah, I think in Japanese it
- 40:47Speaker 3: was something to the effect of like I think that's
- 40:51Speaker 3: what I've heard, yes, yeah, yeah, something of this, but
- 40:54Speaker 3: like we're getting that then, like I couldn't know if
- 40:56Speaker 3: it's flash forwards or flashbacks to him going to the
- 40:59Speaker 3: possessed childre' guess it's a flash forward. It's very confusing
- 41:02Speaker 3: timeline wise. Okay, so let's get to the next story beat.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I guess yes, I didn't realize actually that that really
- 41:08Speaker 3: did happen, Like we just there's a lot of dialogue,
- 41:11Speaker 3: there's a lot of ESTs, but nothing actually happens.
- 41:14Speaker 1: It just says we're still on this plot line.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:18Speaker 3: So a bunch of children get recruited by the main
- 41:22Speaker 3: bad guy because they all also carry the std of
- 41:28Speaker 3: the of Earth Yes and Cephyrov together, and so they
- 41:32Speaker 3: are also remnants and all part of a whole of
- 41:35Speaker 3: cepher Off I believe is the idea that happens some
- 41:40Speaker 3: demon doggos get summoned. Uh. And then all of a sudden,
- 41:43Speaker 3: like literally, someone's having a conversation. I think it's that
- 41:46Speaker 3: scene that you're referring to where Cloud an Tifa have
- 41:49Speaker 3: a tiff unintended. They're like, hey, are you going to
- 41:54Speaker 3: commit to the kids? No? I really can't right now.
- 41:57Speaker 3: I'm just afraid of commitment and why do we have
- 41:59Speaker 3: to labels on things? And then all of a sudden,
- 42:02Speaker 3: a fucking dragon comes out of the sky. Drew, there
- 42:05Speaker 3: was no transition. I'm pretty sure I was high, but
- 42:08Speaker 3: I also paid attention. Then all of a sudden, a
- 42:11Speaker 3: fucker comes out of the sky. This like toofed Turkey,
- 42:14Speaker 3: oh dragon thing, and no one explained it to me.
- 42:17Speaker 3: No one explained it to me. I was left alone
- 42:20Speaker 3: in the dust.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Okay, we do need to go back for a seconds.
- 42:23Speaker 2: We do have Vincent be skipped over, which is like,
- 42:25Speaker 2: like just a fucking badass character who I love. Right,
- 42:28Speaker 2: he saves someone save He saves Cloud from the fight
- 42:31Speaker 2: where he's losing because of the you know right here
- 42:35Speaker 2: at least, But when Vincent, like weird vampire saves Cloud
- 42:39Speaker 2: gets mocked by a child for not owning a cell phone,
- 42:42Speaker 2: then later approaches Tifa saying where do I buy a
- 42:44Speaker 2: cell phone?
- 42:45Speaker 3: Like they car that plot point over for some reason
- 42:48Speaker 3: didn't address it again. It was just kind of an
- 42:50Speaker 3: off joke and also weird.
- 42:52Speaker 2: The sinking cell phone scene that is, like I guess
- 42:55Speaker 2: supposed to be meaningful or something to Cloud like, oh
- 42:58Speaker 2: people care about you.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Oh he is the audience that was?
- 43:02Speaker 2: Is that what that was? It feels like it's a
- 43:04Speaker 2: weird anime moment of like this, like this is purely
- 43:06Speaker 2: for the audience, but just to remind us that Cloud
- 43:08Speaker 2: has friends. I guess because we're not going to see
- 43:11Speaker 2: them in thirty seconds.
- 43:12Speaker 3: I represent the general audience, and I am not the
- 43:15Speaker 3: best because I still also know about anime and a
- 43:17Speaker 3: little bit about Final Fantasy. A lot of this movie
- 43:20Speaker 3: was like Okay, I guess that just happened, both plot
- 43:23Speaker 3: wise and anime wise. I was just like, ah, this
- 43:26Speaker 3: is what I mean by I was just a willing participant.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Things happened to me and my eyeballs. Okay, so yes,
- 43:32Speaker 3: we are going to go back. Vincent Valentine doesn't have
- 43:35Speaker 3: a phone. Child should have made fun of him for
- 43:37Speaker 3: his shoes though, because what the fuck were those? Sorry
- 43:41Speaker 3: to bring back a twenty twelve mean, but what were those?
- 43:44Speaker 3: Everything else about his design is great, what the hell
- 43:47Speaker 3: are those shoes? I could forgive the gun revolver, blade,
- 43:52Speaker 3: bayonet thing, but what the fuck are those shoes?
- 43:54Speaker 1: They cannot be comfortable?
- 43:57Speaker 2: I think I think to give credit for credits, I
- 44:00Speaker 2: think it's the fact that like they had really poorly
- 44:02Speaker 2: designed polygon designs in the the game, like these were things.
- 44:08Speaker 2: But I think it's calling back to the fact that
- 44:10Speaker 2: he was made fun of having this weird pointy feet
- 44:12Speaker 2: as no one else did like I think, I think
- 44:14Speaker 2: it was an intentional design choice as a meme in
- 44:17Speaker 2: this most fan service fuck moment. But we get basically
- 44:20Speaker 2: the entire party of the game getting like a show
- 44:23Speaker 2: up and a one liner. Yeah, except for Red thirteen,
- 44:26Speaker 2: the dog who they later does talk like we know
- 44:29Speaker 2: he can talk. This isn't a reveal like no one was.
- 44:32Speaker 3: Talking or was the cat riding him talk.
- 44:35Speaker 2: The cat riding him does most of the talk. It
- 44:36Speaker 2: does all the talking up to this point, but at
- 44:38Speaker 2: the very end of the movie there he does have
- 44:40Speaker 2: a line like Red thirteen, this talk, This dog can
- 44:43Speaker 2: talk like this isn't a reveal he talks in the game.
- 44:47Speaker 3: He me no, no, no, no, like that. All right,
- 44:52Speaker 3: So because you put it in your notes, this is
- 44:53Speaker 3: I'm gonna get it. I'm gonna start addressing you because
- 44:55Speaker 3: I can't assess the director. Listen, where's your note? Where's
- 44:58Speaker 3: your goddamn no, I'm gonna read it.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Where you go?
- 45:00Speaker 3: So okay, everyone comes in with a one line of
- 45:02Speaker 3: reference to save the day. Absolutely fan service, but it
- 45:05Speaker 3: fucking works exclamation mark and I went, does it?
- 45:09Speaker 2: Okay? So this is this is again where like this
- 45:12Speaker 2: movie was very clearly made for the people who already
- 45:14Speaker 2: played the game. This is basically an extended postgame fucking cutscene.
- 45:18Speaker 2: As a fan of the game, getting everyone with their
- 45:21Speaker 2: one liner of reference to the game doing an iconic
- 45:24Speaker 2: move was like fucking like, you know what, I will
- 45:27Speaker 2: just sit back and enjoy this, like thirty seconds of
- 45:29Speaker 2: anime like it's gold.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I understand that I understand what you're saying. Right now,
- 45:33Speaker 3: I do. I do want to. I want to tell
- 45:36Speaker 3: you right now before I compliment sandwich to you that
- 45:38Speaker 3: I understand what you're saying. Okay, this is the first
- 45:41Speaker 3: time I have been for Matt is our editor. Listeners
- 45:45Speaker 3: of the show should know this. I have been friends
- 45:47Speaker 3: with Matt for years, and for years Matt has said
- 45:50Speaker 3: slandered superhero movies where it's like and then they make
- 45:53Speaker 3: references to this, and I'm just supposed to understand it.
- 45:56Speaker 3: This is the first time that I've sat in Matt's shoes. Okay,
- 46:02Speaker 3: I get that. That's a guy who is this?
- 46:04Speaker 2: Fuck?
- 46:05Speaker 3: What happened here? Why is this guy with a spear?
- 46:09Speaker 3: This is this is Sid the one you got mentioned.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Everyone else is coming in and they're like, I'm a badass.
- 46:14Speaker 3: I'm a one thousand year old vampire with a gun,
- 46:17Speaker 3: gun sword, revolver situation. There's just a guy who's like, hey,
- 46:21Speaker 3: look at my ship. Isn't that cool? This is the
- 46:23Speaker 3: new Mark too? And you're like, it's the Mark one.
- 46:27Speaker 3: And then all of a sudden, he's six stories up
- 46:29Speaker 3: fighting a dragon with a stick. What's happened?
- 46:33Speaker 2: Yeah? Wait, what happened to me? I mean, you're not wrong,
- 46:36Speaker 2: but again, this is very much and it's it's a
- 46:39Speaker 2: detriment to the movie, but it is very much the
- 46:42Speaker 2: We've made this for the person who's played the game,
- 46:45Speaker 2: not for a general audience, and yeah, walking into this
- 46:48Speaker 2: movie without playing the game is wrong. That was get fucked.
- 46:52Speaker 2: You're wrong. You shouldn't be here. Leave this movie actively
- 46:57Speaker 2: Gate keeps. Now you're on my side. This is what
- 47:00Speaker 2: I met man. I was warning the listener of this
- 47:03Speaker 2: episode to this movie. Okay, yes, I feel like they
- 47:07Speaker 2: can still enjoy the episode with us, But at the
- 47:10Speaker 2: same time, I also know what you mean.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Brother.
- 47:12Speaker 3: In sixty seconds, I got introduced to other black haired
- 47:17Speaker 3: human woman who somehow is differentiate from Tifa, red dog
- 47:21Speaker 3: being written by a cat with a crown. Guy would
- 47:24Speaker 3: stick and one thousand year old vampire comes back. Oh
- 47:27Speaker 3: and Barrett, Barrett, I know because of pop culture. That's fine,
- 47:31Speaker 3: all fighting this giant dragon, this chicken dragon that came
- 47:34Speaker 3: out of nowhere. Still reeling from that, still reeling from that.
- 47:37Speaker 3: It hasn't been ten minutes yet, I'm exhausted. And then
- 47:45Speaker 3: I think the thing like and again. For as much
- 47:48Speaker 3: as I I as a fan, loved the scene, loved
- 47:51Speaker 3: the references, love seeing all my favorite characters come back
- 47:53Speaker 3: in a moment.
- 47:54Speaker 1: Yeah you knew.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Can we just talk about that final attack on Bahammad?
- 47:59Speaker 2: That is just like whoa fuck? Yes, you know? How
- 48:03Speaker 2: physics works. No doesn't matter, We're not using it.
- 48:06Speaker 1: No no, no, no no.
- 48:07Speaker 3: And I honestly this one got a pass for me
- 48:09Speaker 3: because Anime again, I got dry, I got blasted, dude,
- 48:14Speaker 3: I got a fucking fitty scented just shot nine times
- 48:17Speaker 3: one in the mouth, right, and then I come back
- 48:20Speaker 3: and I'm like, yo, or we're back in it, dude.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Because what happens is Cloud comes. We forgot the main
- 48:26Speaker 3: character Cloud. He comes along with again seventeen sorts. That's
- 48:29Speaker 3: all he needs is to have more sorts. All I
- 48:32Speaker 3: need is me and my seventeen sorts. I have the
- 48:36Speaker 3: power of God and Anime on my side. Bro, I'm
- 48:39Speaker 3: telling you.
- 48:40Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm getting away from the mic like.
- 48:45Speaker 2: On an episode, but it's so prop for this fucking movie.
- 48:50Speaker 3: Bro, Like honey, like, honestly, grab my cat hair for Dora.
- 48:54Speaker 3: We're full of otaku. Like I'm ready okay, Like because
- 48:58Speaker 3: because Cloud comes in, he where everyone else failed.
- 49:02Speaker 1: He just needed more swords to.
- 49:04Speaker 3: Succeed and friendship friends friendship because what happens is he
- 49:09Speaker 3: jumps gets lost up by a friend to the next
- 49:13Speaker 3: person because again there's seven stories high on rafters and
- 49:17Speaker 3: as he subsequently gets thrown and one miner by each
- 49:21Speaker 3: of his friends. Uh, it's never like we believe in you.
- 49:25Speaker 3: It's just like go get him.
- 49:27Speaker 2: Like it souts. I think Baron's even like you better
- 49:31Speaker 2: not fuck this up or something essentially.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Dude, I watching this scene, I was like, bro, pull up,
- 49:41Speaker 3: pull up my discord, call me Kitty Koon. I'm here
- 49:44Speaker 3: to respect women and eat hockey, and brother, I am
- 49:47Speaker 3: all out of hockey. He starts glowing, he starts gating momentum,
- 49:55Speaker 3: he gets he is the kame com Hi at one point,
- 49:58Speaker 3: which is wonderful. And then he just kills it. He
- 50:02Speaker 3: just kills this dragon chicken that that braided my mind
- 50:06Speaker 3: for about fifteen minutes, really struck disaster for me. And
- 50:10Speaker 3: it's gone. It's not even the end all boss of
- 50:13Speaker 3: the movie.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Yeah that was. That was just a thing. It's summoned beforehand.
- 50:17Speaker 2: That was the pre boss summoned the thing before the boss.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, but I just we just just like one
- 50:24Speaker 2: more second of this, the fucking human ass teeth on
- 50:28Speaker 2: that dragon. We're so sisk I can't get over a
- 50:33Speaker 2: fucking creepy that is the greatest Like otherwise, like you
- 50:37Speaker 2: know what, like Yeah, there's some weird turkeiness design. There's
- 50:40Speaker 2: a bit of like bulk that is like turkey like,
- 50:42Speaker 2: I'll give you that. I think he looks like a
- 50:44Speaker 2: fucking badass mechanical cybernetic future past ancient like feels like
- 50:49Speaker 2: something out of like a breath of the wild, Like,
- 50:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah, sure. The fucking the giant temple monsters there
- 50:56Speaker 2: whatever they're called to the constructs.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Yeah, but the fucking huge nast teeth, it's just like,
- 51:01Speaker 1: looks like an old man's dangerous, just trend into a
- 51:04Speaker 1: dragon's mouth.
- 51:06Speaker 3: They are always out, which is pretty good.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Oh god, we can pass the dragon. We can pass
- 51:12Speaker 2: the dragon. We're on bomb that's.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Gone, and so we have the again, yet another monologue
- 51:17Speaker 3: between two monology characters. It's Rufus, the wheelchair super villain
- 51:22Speaker 3: turned Professor X, and it's our naive teenager villain talking
- 51:27Speaker 3: about mothers and futures and the inevitability of things. He
- 51:32Speaker 3: gets the mcguffin, which I don't really remember what the
- 51:34Speaker 3: mcguffin is other than it's mother.
- 51:36Speaker 2: Some of Genova's DNA, which is the alien that came
- 51:39Speaker 2: to Earth and started this whole bullshit.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Cool.
- 51:42Speaker 3: Then there's a Chase. I believe that happens where they
- 51:46Speaker 3: obtain the mcguffin. Cloud chases them. I will say this
- 51:49Speaker 3: gave me Matrix vibes Matrix two very much. So yeah, yeah,
- 51:53Speaker 3: reloaded motorcycle scene. It's pretty cool. I won't lie to you, like,
- 51:57Speaker 3: oh yeah. Usually tune out of Chase scenes. They're not
- 52:00Speaker 3: my shtick, but I quite like this one. It's pretty good. Interesting.
- 52:03Speaker 3: I'm sorry, we're just gonna say. The dude fucking uses
- 52:06Speaker 3: his legs to throw a motorcycle like Cloud, Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 3: what fuck?
- 52:13Speaker 1: Oh dude.
- 52:13Speaker 3: They're like they're they're on a helicopter there. People are
- 52:17Speaker 3: coming in on like running rocket launchers. They're dodging it all. Yeah,
- 52:22Speaker 3: he stops it. This this is a scene that happened
- 52:25Speaker 3: in Civil War and is very famous. Like Bucky uses
- 52:28Speaker 3: his metal arm to stop the motorcycle preemptively and like
- 52:31Speaker 3: drag it. They did it first. This is two thousand
- 52:34Speaker 3: and five. So he does his lightning fist, stops it,
- 52:37Speaker 3: chucks a chucks a motorcycle.
- 52:39Speaker 1: They like are.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Flying in the air catching each other in motorcycles like
- 52:44Speaker 3: it's fast and furious.
- 52:45Speaker 2: There is a point where they're like mid air fighting
- 52:47Speaker 2: where I'm like, yeah, okay, like it's been like several seconds.
- 52:52Speaker 2: They have just been perpetually haggy in the air, in
- 52:54Speaker 2: the air with their motorcycles. Where are they fuck fuck
- 52:58Speaker 2: the law of relativity, They're still under them. Yeah, it's
- 53:02Speaker 2: it's wonderful. And then I did blank out on this.
- 53:07Speaker 2: The mcguffin happens, the remnants become sepher off, and now
- 53:11Speaker 2: the big fight scene happens. Yes, this is yes, yeah,
- 53:14Speaker 2: so we we we get. I will just say I
- 53:16Speaker 2: love that. We get like another moment of Rude in
- 53:18Speaker 2: Reno where the whole helicopter bullshit thing which ends with
- 53:22Speaker 2: like the stinger joke of Reno is still holding the
- 53:26Speaker 2: joystick from the helicopter and like even has someone where
- 53:29Speaker 2: he like looks at it and smirks and throws it
- 53:31Speaker 2: away like like that's funny, Like you you get how
- 53:34Speaker 2: funny you are, and I love that for you. And
- 53:37Speaker 2: then they have this, Oh they are very much the
- 53:40Speaker 2: Jesse and James, although I think Rude might also I
- 53:42Speaker 2: think Reno might be a bit in the mouth. Also,
- 53:46Speaker 2: he's like an amalgam of all three perfectly. Yeah, But
- 53:50Speaker 2: then you have that like really really prolonged conversation where
- 53:53Speaker 2: they're just standing there with fucking C four. Yeah, and
- 53:57Speaker 2: they wait for Cloud and Kadage to leave and then
- 54:00Speaker 2: go boom and theoretically this kills the other two. Yes, yeah,
- 54:04Speaker 2: yeah yeah, but then yes, we fight Dash for a
- 54:07Speaker 2: little bit. Uh. He eventually does open up the thing
- 54:10Speaker 2: with the alien DNA in it and somehow magically becomes
- 54:13Speaker 2: off and the rest of the team shows up in
- 54:16Speaker 2: the in the in the the the airship, and Chief
- 54:19Speaker 2: was like, no, no, no, he's got this. Yeah, they
- 54:24Speaker 2: don't want to end the world that nearly killed the
- 54:26Speaker 2: world two years ago that we all had to work
- 54:28Speaker 2: together to fight.
- 54:29Speaker 3: No, no, I've got this. Yeah again, just get more swords.
- 54:33Speaker 3: It's fine. This is my first introduction to outside of
- 54:37Speaker 3: like yep, super Smash Bros. I love that sentence because
- 54:42Speaker 3: I know, I just pissed off a bunch of Final
- 54:43Speaker 3: Fantasy characters.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Stay mad, stay mad. I love you just said. I
- 54:49Speaker 1: just pissed off a bunch of Final Fantasy characters, not
- 54:52Speaker 1: Fantom players. You're all side characters. Shut up.
- 54:55Speaker 3: I'm gonna double down on what I said. You're not
- 54:57Speaker 3: the main protagonist. Stick with catch me on discord bitches,
- 55:02Speaker 3: but uh, get in the comments. See me in the
- 55:07Speaker 3: country roll forums, you idiots. I don't know Country roed forums.
- 55:12Speaker 1: I don't know. I'll see you a con. But I
- 55:16Speaker 1: can't stop.
- 55:18Speaker 3: I realize this is my first interaction and experience with Zephyrov.
- 55:22Speaker 3: He's so boring and flat, but but he's so edgy
- 55:27Speaker 3: that it comes back around and you're kind of like.
- 55:31Speaker 2: But I get it.
- 55:32Speaker 1: I kind of get it.
- 55:32Speaker 3: Dude with the one fucking black wing on the one side,
- 55:35Speaker 3: with the long ass sword, with the leather coat. Yeah,
- 55:38Speaker 3: he he. He's kind of him to say, to reflect
- 55:41Speaker 3: what the kids say.
- 55:43Speaker 1: He's him, he is, he is.
- 55:45Speaker 2: I think what they do well here they capture it
- 55:47Speaker 2: well here in the bit of time we get with him.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Is that like in a world where like things are
- 55:53Speaker 2: kind of fantastical and over the top and like ridiculous,
- 55:56Speaker 2: and like he isn't like void of those things, like
- 55:59Speaker 2: the sore is like what forty feet long? What the
- 56:03Speaker 2: crap is that thing? He like doesn't give a shit.
- 56:06Speaker 2: He's like, no, no, no, none of that fucking matters. I
- 56:08Speaker 2: know how powerful I am. I know what I want.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Even his death is like it's not like, oh, you win,
- 56:14Speaker 2: you beat me. It's like no, no, no, You're stuck with me.
- 56:17Speaker 2: I will forever haunt your fucking dreams, and every chance
- 56:20Speaker 2: I get to come back and fuck with you, I
- 56:22Speaker 2: will take it. There was no ending me. This is
- 56:24Speaker 2: just a temporary pause till this all happens again, bitch.
- 56:28Speaker 3: Outside of like Rude and Reno, which we have talked
- 56:31Speaker 3: a lot, and they don't feature often in the movie,
- 56:34Speaker 3: we just love them so much. This movie takes itself
- 56:37Speaker 3: so seriously. So again, if you have not seen at
- 56:40Speaker 3: least five anime, this will kill you. Like Cephrov is
- 56:44Speaker 3: so edgy the way he monologues to because whatever version
- 56:48Speaker 3: of Amazon I had did not give me the options
- 56:50Speaker 3: for subs or dubs. I was forced into sub and
- 56:54Speaker 3: I do mean forced because I think I would have
- 56:55Speaker 3: preferred English, considering that everyone's memories of Final Fantasy are
- 56:59Speaker 3: of English dub. I would like to continue that this
- 57:02Speaker 3: was he was so anime man, like I don't speak
- 57:04Speaker 3: any Japanese, but you can you can envision it man
- 57:07Speaker 3: with the deep voice and just yeah, he's not funny,
- 57:11Speaker 3: he's not charming, he's just flat villain. He's just like
- 57:15Speaker 3: I am inevitable. I will come back for you. Do
- 57:19Speaker 3: you do you really think you could fight me? Like
- 57:21Speaker 3: it's all of that, it's all the stroke. But even
- 57:23Speaker 3: like even there, even though like do you think you
- 57:25Speaker 3: can be me?
- 57:26Speaker 2: Like I feel like it's like a cocky line you
- 57:27Speaker 2: would get from some people like no, he is fully
- 57:29Speaker 2: like no, no, like.
- 57:30Speaker 1: I know you can't win. That's the true And even
- 57:33Speaker 1: when he loses, he goes just a temporary victory. I've
- 57:37Speaker 1: that line war with too much emotion. You have to
- 57:40Speaker 1: knock it down five emotions, just like no, I can't
- 57:44Speaker 1: do it.
- 57:44Speaker 2: I can't do and again it's and again maybe this
- 57:47Speaker 2: is again like he's one of my favorite characters. Like
- 57:49Speaker 2: my first email address on Gmail was sepher Off at
- 57:52Speaker 2: gmail dot com. Like that is like I'm outing myself
- 57:54Speaker 2: right now. I had Like there there was to exit
- 57:59Speaker 2: a little bit and there's some more drew lore. From
- 58:01Speaker 2: the beginning of this, there was a moment in my
- 58:03Speaker 2: life where it occurred to me when I realized I
- 58:05Speaker 2: was queer that like there were characters or actors I
- 58:08Speaker 2: enjoyed who I always thin like, oh I like them
- 58:09Speaker 2: for whatever reason. It's like no, No, I fall had a
- 58:11Speaker 2: fucking crush on this man and didn't have the words
- 58:14Speaker 2: for it. That is so clear with Sephyrroth of just
- 58:17Speaker 2: like yes, daddy, But there is something about him where
- 58:21Speaker 2: it's like like you think of like, oh, like a
- 58:24Speaker 2: character who's so boring and so dull and thinks they're unbeatable,
- 58:28Speaker 2: and like you picture someone in your head and there's
- 58:30Speaker 2: either the like they're cauky about it or they're like
- 58:33Speaker 2: they're too boring. But he is neither of those. He
- 58:37Speaker 2: is just serious in a world where like, yes, everything's serious,
- 58:40Speaker 2: but with like a sense of like wonder, he is
- 58:43Speaker 2: just like, no, there is no wonder. This is what's happening,
- 58:47Speaker 2: and you were going to live with it?
- 58:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I think you've hit the nail on
- 58:50Speaker 3: the head. Where any other character tries to attempt this,
- 58:53Speaker 3: it is hilarious beyond beyond repair. But he again to
- 58:59Speaker 3: know the kids, has so much aura that he doesn't
- 59:02Speaker 3: put it off. Yes, he's the original aura farmer, he
- 59:05Speaker 3: really is. I mean, the the man has one dark wing.
- 59:09Speaker 3: You can't you can't even have two dark wings and
- 59:11Speaker 3: be symmetrical. He's like, no, just the one shoulder blade
- 59:14Speaker 3: is it enough to lift me? Yes, fuck your physics
- 59:17Speaker 3: asymmetrical as hell. Oh my god, it's so much. It's
- 59:22Speaker 3: so much.
- 59:24Speaker 2: It is I get, I kind of do, but yeah,
- 59:27Speaker 2: and then again like just to just to wrap things up,
- 59:29Speaker 2: we kind of get our ending, which really is this
- 59:31Speaker 2: weird thing where like everyone's phone is ringing and saying,
- 59:34Speaker 2: I guess, hey, come to this bloody church for some
- 59:36Speaker 2: reason where we're gonna properly cure every one of the
- 59:39Speaker 2: geostigma because a water fountain in the church happened, like
- 59:44Speaker 2: not really explained, like I think I've like I've read like,
- 59:47Speaker 2: oh it's probably this, and there's like some allusions to
- 59:49Speaker 2: it with a as He's as He's cloud is in
- 59:52Speaker 2: theory dead because after all of this and being stabbed,
- 59:55Speaker 2: he gets shot by one of the remaining remnants who
- 59:59Speaker 2: somehow got out of there. I guess Zoo with his
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: gun sword. The guns sword comes back, baby. Yeah, so,
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: like you know, stab through the heart totally fine, shot
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: from like forty feet away by a gun sword. Yeah,
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: you're fucking dead man. Sorry, you need you need your
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: dead girlfriend, who is now I guess fucking your dead
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: boyfriend to like resurrect you, because I guess she's the earth, now,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: I think is the implications they're trying to get to.
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: Like I'm I'm I'm paraphrasing, but like that's basically the
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: some of.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: It with Zach.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: Oh. Yeah, No, the the clearly Eras and Zach are
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: boning and he's oh to me, it seems very obvious.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: I don't know what of his there was definitely some
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: energy there.
- 1:00:44Speaker 3: Cloud's just this is just terrible romance. This iss cocked.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Yeah yeah.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: So to imagine being a love triangle and finding out
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: the other two people you were you were interested in
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: just going yeah, fuck this guy right now with each other.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: I do understand your note about a love parallel gram now, yeah,
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: because he had he had two love interests. He can't
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: one's dead, one's dead, and he can't commit to the
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: one that is clearly alive and into him. But then
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: the other girl that's dead is now He's now a
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: cuck to his ex lover and his ex lover. Okay,
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: I see what's going on.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, And like I'm just gonna say it now,
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: just to like throw another ball into the court because
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: it's fucking funny. Cloud's entire backstory is just Zax. He
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: stolen Cloud doesn't know his backstory, so the backstory he's
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: given in Final Fantasy that he is like known for
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: his memories are all just Zax he stole.
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: They keep alluding to that in this movie, but is
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: that explained elsewhere?
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: The game covers it a bit better. But then there's
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: actually a separate game called Final Fantasies having Crisis Core.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: That is Zach's story. That's what you that essentially explains
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: that properly. And the whole idea of like Cloud was
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: just this clone. Oh that was had no backstory and
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: history and life or he was a clone, so he
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: adopted by Yes, you're saying he's coocked by himself. He's
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: cooked by the person he thinks he is, that he is,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: not that he's become.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: You said that without hesitation, and I even I don't
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: stand it. That's what a sigma is. I think, well,
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: you cooked so hard because you cooked whatever you said.
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: You're cooked by the person you were, who you thought
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: you were, and who you have become.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Yep ue, I followed it perfect.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Yes, bro, that's transcendent. Honestly, I want to you know,
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: that's the that's where we aspire to be as.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: A human being.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Aspire to become somebody that would cut ourselves, but we
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: do it to ourselves instead. Yeah, Jason, how would you
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: rate this film?
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Ah?
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: You know, as an adaptation, we didn't do it as
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: sorry because I because I couldn't get to it.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: I think I wrote two of them in my notes altogether,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: and even I was like, notional, So those are anymore?
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: I couldn't press the button fast enough because I just
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: kept getting fifty cent in the streets. Man, bro Biggie smiles,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: I got shit on me. Yeah, I just gotta fucking
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: pull out their score sword guns and gat in my ass.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: As an adaptation, I think defaultly, I don't even know
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: if we could call this an adaptation because it's kind
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: of like Pokemon the first movie, Like is this canon?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Do you know? Is is this official? This?
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: Is this is canon? Yes?
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: Final Fantasy conclude.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: Yes, this this is officially the like what happens after
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: the bottom fifty seven story takes place? I don't know
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: what other Final Fantasy games there are. I can think
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: of like three or four others that, to my dollars,
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: they're all canon, And I think the only non canon
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: shit we get for Final Fantasy seven is Kingdom hearts,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: and then even then it's questionable.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Oh cool, you ruined one of my jokes. I don't
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: know what I was gonna say, like for this movie,
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: because it's like, it's not an adaptation, and so by
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: default it's cannon. This gets the rank of cannon it gets.
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: It gets thirteen Buster swords on a motorcycle. You cannot
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: get clearer than this in terms of an adaptation. Yeah, right, No,
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: you're right. It's this is basically a two hour postgame
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: cut scene with a fucking stellar soundtrack. And if you were,
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: you know, one of those nut jobs who played this
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: game and made their entire personality for a few years
- 1:04:24Speaker 3: in high school slash college, then yeah, this is a
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: great part two to an amazing game. So I guess
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: by that rule it also gets a seven out of
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: seven for me because it's literally just or sorry, a
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: fourteen out of seven because it is just a second
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: seven Yeah, hell yeah, hell yeah, it's it. It breaks
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: the scale on that end. As a film and as
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: a person who had to witness this, I had to Yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: as part of this project, I give it a wait,
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: don't these don't these aren't these movies supposed to have
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: Mickey Donald and Goofy in them as a reference to
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Kingdom Hearts because for a time as a child, legitimately,
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: I thought that they were the same franchise, and I
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: thought Soro was Cloud and vice versa. And then I
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: found out that Cloud's in Kingdom Hearts, which ruined my
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: perception of these games that I did not play. So
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: that's that's how I You know, it's not bad, it's
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: not bad, but it certainly is confusing and happened to me.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: It's kind of like your first time you had sex
- 1:05:23Speaker 3: as a teenager. You're like, WHOA, didn't hate that? But
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: what the fuck happened?
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: That might be the best ranking we've ever given. I'm
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: gonna give mine now while I do that, can you
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: please do me a favor? And I want just a
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: genuine reaction when it happens. Just google what Cloud looks
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: like in Kingdom Hearts. Please take a moment do that.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Let me know, jay I thought he looks the same.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: Oh no, they got he got an infit change for
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: Kingdom Hearts. I just want a genuine reaction to.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Oh shit, is this real? Oh he's got the one wing,
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: the bat wing? Why does he have a batwing? And
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: what is that? What a.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: Crazy long scarf. He's assuming his swords in the picture.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: It's just for no reason. Ao, this Fox, I'm not
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: he does it fucks so hard. But I mean, like
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: you thought outfit here was edgy. What the fuck is this?
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: No, that's so true.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: He does have an advent children costume, which is I
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: think that's what that's a reference to. Yeah, that's for sure.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: The one sleeve that's fit. God, he looks like a digimon.
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: That is the most That is the best description I've
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: ever heard. There's a digitmon that looks like Vincent val there.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Really is I know which I'm talking about. Two.
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: I love that it's just a homie. Oh my god,
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: some pokemon look like blokes. That that one dude, he's
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: got the boots. This is a fit.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: I don't know if this is the reaction you wanted
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: this Fox.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: I thought it would be like ridiculous, over the top,
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: like making fun of how it is here is like
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: this is like dream cause playing right there?
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: Yeah, like men really just want to dress like this.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: I ain't gonna lie you. Oh yeah, because this is
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: a like an auditory medium. What I'm just what I'm
- 1:07:05Speaker 3: seeing here is man with hiking boots cuffed but also
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: baggy jeans. Not as many bandaliers as you would think.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: But on one hand is fingerless gloves, two metal bracelets,
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: and one shoulder pauldron. And on the other hand is
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: just the fingerless glove, all adorned with a Get this, gamers,
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: it's both a scarf cape and like fucking ninja mask.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: And then he has a singular bat wing and to
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: play it all off, the bus sword is now mummified.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it is the like most like. And I don't
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: think any of the other Final Fantasy characters really got
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: like makeovers for this game, with the exception of the
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: girls in Final Fantasy ten two, which is their pixies
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: and fairies for some reason, I don't could you just
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: say ten to two, yes, our little Fantasy ten two,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: there's a sequel to ten.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Okay, got it? Not eleven? But okay, so we're in
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: the fast and.
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: Furious zone hear. Oh yeah, it's very much that energy.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: So sorry to all that. To go back to uh
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: this movie zero percent. If you've not played Fial finety seven,
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: and I mean like played it, read the way he
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: found the secrets, watch at least two explainer videos that
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: were longer in the game itself. Then this movie will
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: feel like a fever dream of like made up shit
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: and crazy anime fighting. I mean, I am one of
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: the above mentioned F seven nerds who did way too
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: much research into this and like made it the personality
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: and even I found this hard to follow. Albeit I
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: was a bit high. It took me a while. There
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: was like moments where I was like, I'm connecting dots
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: here and I'm like behind.
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's it's again. And I cannot say it enough.
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: If you are not ready to be a Sempi or
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: an oi chon or chon, do not come in, dude.
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: It's dangerous. These streets.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: Are run by say it.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: Say it. I don't what you do, but say it.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Go whatever it is, Finish it. Don't be a baka.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: Finish it.
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: If you're not ready to necho necho, you're not ready
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: to fucking come on these streets, buddy. All right, alright,
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: this has been the funnest episode.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: Let's go to a game. Welcome back everyone. We are
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: post ad break, we are post episode. We have we
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: had a good time, but we decided it was a
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: little lonely in here. And much like sep we needed more.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I was trying to think where we're
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: like the three pieces of Sepharroth and we're the three
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: twinks and twinks.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Oh my weight, my friend, I've never been mistaken for
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: a twink, but I'll take it.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Hey, twings come in all shapes and sizes. Now it's
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: an inclusive world. But oh beautiful, What a wonderful world.
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: What a way to introduce our new guest we have
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: here from the retro game Champions and Ear Remarcade, Matt Hatter. Hello, Hello, everybody.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: I'm I'm gonna be reeling from that forever. I'm gonna
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: message my oldest after this.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: I'm like I got told the first time. It's a
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: pleasure being with y'all. I've been listening to y'all NonStop
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks, and it is just it's
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: pure magic to be here.
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: Oh, thank you, You're good having you here.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: It's you know, it's those moments in like the podcasting
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: space where it's like when you reach out to the
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: podcast you listen to and tell them that you're listening,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: or you discover them through X y Z thing that
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: is like the coolest shit for like the podcast, I
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: still have like growing audiences.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: It is definitely like a huge thing, so like, thank
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: you for reaching out. And also I guess for any
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: other fans out there who are like, wait, you're telling
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: me it's some random fan just like discovered the show,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: it's like I want to be on the show, and
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: they were like, yeah, he's cool. Why not. No one's
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: stopping you from trying for a week. I'm the first
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: person that's going to just cause you guys so much drama.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: That's if he can do them.
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: Down for he's not under contract, he's not affiliated with
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Gaily Perps.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: I'm an AI voice. We were desperate for a fan.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: We made one up. We built one mm hmmmm, I'm
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: trying to there was a final fantasy somewhere where they
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: like created somebody. I mean basically Cloud isn't that Cloud
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Just he's a weird clone thing with like no memory,
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: just made to be someone else.
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: Yeah you tell me, man, it's as if I know,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: I mean, if it's either going to be a clone
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: or it's going to be a crystal And and that's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: the whole story.
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: It's the two genders Cloner, Crystal.
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Or Twink or Twinks. Because we discussed the episode, if
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: the third big beefy one with the electric punch fist
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: can be considered twink esque or twink, is I coing
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: to which I think is a term and make it up,
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: then anyone can be Twink or Twunk. It's no longer
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: no longer being held held behind any kind of like,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: there's no gate keeping the Twinks.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I love the electric punch fitt. That does sound like
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: a Twink move. Everything is connected, this is this is great.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Oh my god, incredibly, this actually does weirdly lead into
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: my game a little bit. Oh wow, it's called the twig.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: I'm kidding, no should I am taken off my pants?
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: But you're wearing pants for this?
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Oh god?
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Was a neck high?
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Hell, I'm not even wearing a full shirt. You just
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: cut off right below the nipples.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: My friends like a little bit of a T shirt bib.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: It's a little David Bowie bit. Oh hell, oh nice.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: I don't know Bowie Kike recently. That was really, I
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: don't know, weirdly feels like it fits this universe. I
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: feel like I feel like all the Seffroth clothes would
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: listen to Bowie, I think they'd be their jam Oh
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: or the Goblin King from Labyrinth would totally just be
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: a villain, absolutely, just a little more mask era. Yes,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: he doesn't have enough mask here for a final fantasy game.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: That's the problem, Jason, im assuming you've seen Labyrinth come
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: on pictures.
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: Yes, I understand he's a twink. He's definitely a He's
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: an evil anime villain, it really is. Yeah, I understand.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: But like I alluded to, so weirdly the game I
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: wrote today, one of the categories will lean into the
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: weapons a little more. Actually, the first category we were
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: playing a gate Leaber's Classic, one of my favorite games
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: Matt has ever come up with that I've since stolen
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: and I'm not using for the second time. I feel
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: like he always a punny name for it. I couldn't
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: come up with one on a on a whim. But short, long,
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: and the short of it is. You will each be
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: presented with a list of things from a category. I
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: will go through those categories in a moment with you.
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: From that category, those five listed items in the category
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: there are three reel and two fake. You will take.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: You will go through them, picking one at a time,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: your picks for real. If you land on a fake,
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: you're out. You frozen, out of the list, No more guesses.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: That is the end of your round. We move for
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: the next person. So really, if you're like ify on
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: a few, go for the one of the most confident
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: in But uh, you you you heard the game play,
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: you know how this works. And I will let Jason,
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: as are co host and a Residents expert, go first.
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: And your category and the same category for both of you.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: But Jason, your category is weapons in Final Fantasy. Yeah,
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: so you've played, You've seen Final Fantasy, You've seen some
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: of the weapons we have there. I see, we'll see
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: how many of these you can get. Right, Your five
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: weapons are rushes, keys, forks, gun blades, and microphones.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: I was gonna say how many of these are gun blades?
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: I thought they'd be named things categories of weapons. I'm
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: not even categories crazy. Okay, okay, gotcha, gotcha? Well I
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: blanked out a gun blades that was pre pre in
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: my head.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: It's all you're a weight of.
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, do you want to lock in gun blades? I
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: would very much like to please lock in gun blades.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: It's all I can.
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: I can definitely say you have a point there. Gun
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: blades is one. It's a whole remaining four category. Well,
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: there was keys, there was forks, there was rushes.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: And I lost the last one. I apologize.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: Microphones the thing you're using right now.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Okay, gotcha.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: These are all incredibly phallic and handheld, except for the
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: most weapons. Most weapons kind.
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: Of are yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, keys. I want
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: I want to go keys. Here's here's the reason I
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: know key blade is a thing. I know the Final
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts they did crossover. I'm not I'm
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: not Josh, and this isn't a bit I understand this.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: No, no, it's it's it's good. You use some good
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: logic there. Yeah it was wrong, but some great logic.
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: Jesus fucking Christ, how dare you? I genuinely it was like,
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: I feel like, is this too meant to drip him up?
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: But now I double checked the key blade and none
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: of it's key like things have ever made into a
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Final Fantasy game.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: It turns out awesome. Listen, Drew, you're acting real innocent
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: right now, but you do this all the time.
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: Oh, I love people. Don't worry you'll get of the show,
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: thank you for coming on for back. And he does
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: this all the time too, You thought to yourself, is
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: this too mean too? In the most obvious trip up
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: for the guy who knows nothing about this ship on
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: the first go.
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: After saying you're the resident expert.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, after setting me up, dude, you just you know
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: that scene in Big Daddy where he puts a stick
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: in front of the rollerblade guy and last that's you what.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: A specific pull, but very much. Yes, I'm aware of
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: the scene. Yeah, I've come here to burn it all
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: down with you, Jason. I wanted to. I wanted to
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: make sure you failed around once or guess had a chance,
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: so I caul judge him better. I didn't want to.
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Got okay, thank you for the behind scenes meaner Anyways,
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: at least Matt pretends for a fair game. You know,
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: I'm a level playing in the field. You just went,
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: I'm just gonna bully Jason. He's my only audience.
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: Absolutely, hat or do you want to just for no
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: points for fun? Do you think you know the the
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: other two real ones on that list between you? Absolutely
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: it's microphones and oh my god, right off the damn Unfortunately,
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: you actually have only one of them right forks is correct?
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: Microphones know there are megaphones or foghorns, but no microphones,
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: not even an X two with the line I know.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: I was again like, it's the things where like I
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: wrote these down and I like went through a wiki
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: list and I even like, I think I know a
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: game would have this, and I double checked, but no,
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: h And then brushes. There is a class in one
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: of the games that just uses brushes, like oversized paint
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: brushes for some reason.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: That's really sick. I remember a character from Samurai Show
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Down that used a giant brush. But I was like,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: that's tripping me up.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: It's also thing too, where it's like there's so many
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: different like tangential JRPGs and animes, like I would not
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: be shocked if all of these working other ones. Oh
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: of course. Yeah, but let's see how you do with
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: your list. Your list will include gun arms, balls, bats, cloth,
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: and eggs. Yours is any any better?
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: Well, here we go. We'll start with gun arms because
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: that's a definite that's a classic. Yes, of course, you'll
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: get your point there. That's that's I know that. Yeah,
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: I know, who's look at you? Barrett's and the dude,
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: Barrett's dude.
- 1:18:01Speaker 3: He's the one that threw loving refers to as Jerome.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: Jerom.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: Is that a callback to an unrecorded bit? I'm so sorry.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: If it isn't.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: That's the best kind of bit. That's just for us boys.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Were we supposed to say the embarrassing ship on the record.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: I'm sure I've said it somewhere else before. Okay, so yes,
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: you've locked in gun arms. You've got a point.
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: That's gonna sound funny, especially from a fat guy like me.
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: But all I can remember is eggs. What were the
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: other ones?
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: I had eggs for dinner? Don't be dug it. There
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: your your other eggs? Claw bat balls? Oh okay, well
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: bat is another one. I will say, bat Well, you've
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: you've tied up the game, at least on the first
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: round after getting out, I'll give you that one.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: At least.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: No one in Final Fantasy uses a bat. There's batons,
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: there's billy clubs, but there's no bats.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Oh, so we're we're getting we're getting granular with the bat.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I see, I look for the term bat in all
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: the games wikis, and none of them had one. Jay,
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: I feel your pain, now you feel your pain. Okay,
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: at least, at least you're both hating me equally. I
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: feel better, almost weirdly, in the.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: First round he went strong in the first round.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: One a stab at the other one.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: Would I do not even a guess, Just give it
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: to me. Was it cloth?
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: It's cloth and balls.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: It's cloth and balls.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: He uses the balls as a weapon.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: Are you sure those balls aren't just eggs?
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: If there's a problem with those eggs other sports people
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: come out of the eggs.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: Final Fantasy, the sports Pokemon. That's dope. I'd watch that, yeah,
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: except that you know Pokemon would sue you now because
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: it's the thing they're trying to do with the I will,
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: We'll get that sour taste out of my mouth and
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: go to another category. Jason, let you start again. I'm
- 1:20:04Speaker 2: hoping this one's more fair. You've got this, but this
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: will be summons from Final Fantasy. Summons great, the big
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: scary things they say, go fight for me. I got
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: back to Pokemon somehow. Fuck again. Your list of summons
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: are bahamut odin for Raydon and Gargoyle.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: Okay, for some for some reason, I do know some
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: of the summons. I do know Baha met because it
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: was in the movie that we talked about there you
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: go in there.
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: I'll walk that way in for you. I'm not even
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: gonna make you. Yeah, you know him, You're good, just
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: because it's a nice place to talk about it too.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure most summons because this is like an anthrall.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: This isn't a what is it called anthology? This is
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: anthology series. So Bahama does not look the same in
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: every game.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: Right. In fact, in Final Fantasy seven, even excluding the
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: turkey with human teeth from edvond Children, right, he has
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: three different appearances in Final Fantasy seven alone.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: Jesus, Okay, that's fun. I do know Odin is a
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: one because I remember, is it Final Fantasy thirteen with Lightning.
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: I remember having like the game and Former magazine and
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: reading through it and seeing Odin as a summon.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: So Odin, you were right, Odin is one of them.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: You've got that one, damnbody. I think he's appeared in
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: almost every one of the games, Like I feel like
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: he's like going back to Final Fants like one or
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: two Classic.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Wow, okay, gotcha? And what were the other ones?
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: There was thor raiding, Raydan and Gargoyle Raiden's kind of cool.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Rayden would be cool because he's like he's he's a
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Japanese god, right, he's lightning God. That's no, that's Raijin.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: Fuck.
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: I screwed this whole thing up. God damn it.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: So are you gonna lock in Raidin or no?
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, I already said it. Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: It is it is Raydon. You are right. I actually
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: am convinced that Rayden might be one of those things
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: where it's like the English translation that it is Raijin
- 1:21:56Speaker 2: in the Japanese ones, because I think the older games
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: it is actually rogen. I just thought Raydon was throwing
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: in an Immortal Kombat character I thought would throw you
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: off and be funny.
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: No, no, no, you saw right through me.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Metal gear with the naked ride and doing cartwheels everywhere
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: to the battlefield. Yes, that would be sick. I'm a
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: naked twink. Now that's a twink?
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: Isn't that persona five? Isn't that what that is?
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: That's tine twinks? The game yeah, is going to be
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: so pissed. Okay, wait quick question, then what is the
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: twink of the Pokemon games?
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Which which one do you want? How many?
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, it was just stip over James,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: Oh you were going with I was looking for Pokemon,
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: but I think James is the right answer. I went
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: with Galaide as the first twink. Yeah, Galaide is pretty
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: damn twink. I think that was Honestly, as soon as
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: I stopped to be like, Okay, what what am I
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: looking for as an answer? I landed on Galad.
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Also, Yeah, Sylvion, I don't know if I'm allowed to
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: say this, but pre Marina serves cunt.
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: I think I'm using.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: Oh, yes, yes it does. I do believe you're allowed
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: to say that. I can never fucking say his name properly.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: It's a Quacksley's final evolution of the newest.
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: Oh that serves con and his twink. Yeah for sure?
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: That free Marina in Galade, like the Bubble, the overlap,
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: vend Box and Pokemon for sure? Are we joking? Qua Google,
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: that's what it is. I don't know what it is.
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: I can never get the name right on that one
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: I had her. I've got a list for you, so again.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: Jason got a three out of five on the three
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: very No, you got so again. Your summons from across
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: the Final Fantasy cannon are Man Drake, Hades, Zeus, Titan
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: and Carbuncle Christ. I want to be real so bad.
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: I'm like, I know that's a summon in Sonic Shuffle.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Everyone knows Sonic Shuffle. My favorite Final Fantasy game is
- 1:24:02Speaker 2: like the Mario Party rip off one.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: Yes for the Dreamcast and it was awful. You thought
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: Mario Party was unbalanced, Jesus Christ. But there's a carbuncle
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: and when it appears, it says the carbuncle ate itself
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: and that I'll never.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Forget that phrase because what does that mean?
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Okay, so you said Zeus, you said, you said, uh,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: oh my god. All I'm thinking about is the car
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: buncle and Sonic Shuffle. This is awful, adhd or Twinkism. Okay,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: let me have a list one more time quick. You
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: have Man, Drake, Hades, Zeus, Titan, and Carbuncle. I'm gonna
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: go with Titan. That seems so legitimately final Fantasy. So
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: it's either true or you being a jerk.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: One of those. Hey, I might be a jerk, but
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: I would never fuck around with Titan. You are cruick
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: on Titan.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: Nice, Yeah, that is.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: I think he is just a large man that comes
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: out of the earth. And throws rocks at people. That's
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: the few clips of him I've seen. That's generally what
- 1:25:05Speaker 2: I do too, just burst out of the earth and
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: koolaid Man from Hell. Uh, kool aid Man from Hell.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: Let's lock in Hades. I'm just gonna slide too good
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: about that? You know what, you should feel good about it.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: You're a two for two right now. Haines is another one.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: Oh yes, weirdly like this is one of the ones
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: I remember from Final Fantasy seven specifically, and he's just
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: a grim reaper. I don't know why he's called Hades.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: The translations back then, who knows? Yeah, yeah, Third, I'm
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: gonna go the big bite hot dog from seven to eleven.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: I know it sounds like it's probably not, but I
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: think that's there.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: Which is what I could call any of these three
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: other things. I feel like I can walk into seven
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: eleven in order a man drink a Zeus or a
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: carbuncle and get a big fat in one of those.
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: So like, what the fuck is a carbuncle?
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: I would tell you, but the carbuncle aid it, So
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: let's go, man Drake. I feel like Zeus is too
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: close to the.
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Lightning and thor and and all that I'm gonna regret.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: It, but I will say it was Zeus. You did
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: spot my trick. Unfortunately you also fell for man Drake
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: is Carbuncle.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: There's a carbyl Glid Final Fantasy. Oh.
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: It is your default summon and the summoner class on
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: the whatever the online one is fourteen. I think, oh fourteen,
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: and it's like the generic most classes in most games.
- 1:26:30Speaker 2: It's like the first summon you get. It's this little
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: like antler bunny thing. Oh my, I'm happy I missed that.
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: That's I honestly one of my favorite summons in the game.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: Like I just I love it as like a thing
- 1:26:44Speaker 2: like I was. When they did the Final Fantasy crossover
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: with Magic, there was no Carbuncle card, but it's included
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: in the art of one of the other cards, so
- 1:26:51Speaker 2: I had nice. Wow.
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: I've officially don't know what else is happening in this game.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Well, we we are entering a final round. Jason are
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: in the lead four to three, so it is your
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: game to win exciting and to lose and to loose.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: You can go either way. It's completely up to you.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: We're all leaving here happy twinks. That's all that matters.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: That's great happy twinks with carbuncles in hand. So to
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: tie this game really specifically to add in children, I
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: wanted to grab Final Fantasy seven final moves. So in
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: Final Fantasy seven limit breaks, they are the like ultimate
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: move every character gets. There's a few of them per character. Oh,
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: I'm gonna give you again. Five three are real. Two
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: I just made up because they sounded like they would
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: fit the other weird ones this game gave us sweet
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: So Jason, your list of Final Fantasy seven final moves,
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: or limit breaks as they're called are Terra Blade, Greased Lightning, Landscaper,
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: Comet Slice, and Earth Rave.
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: Wow, couldn't tell you. I couldn't couldn't tell you shooting
- 1:28:05Speaker 3: fish in your mind picture of j RBG. You see
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: the menu you're picking your moves and the big one
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: of the bottom and bold, which is click one. What
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: is it, Drew? You tell me, buddy, how about it?
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: That's not how this game was try though, Terriblde you know,
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: fuck it Because there's a lot of talk about Terror
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: Earth isn't Isn't it called like Terror Earth for some nonsense.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: I think it's some of the games they do. Also,
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: Tear is the main character of one of the games.
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: I think seven it's Gaya is the terminus what I
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: was actually thinking of. So yeah, I fucked that, dedn't
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: I immediately.
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: Matter?
- 1:28:49Speaker 2: Do you do you recognize any of these from seven?
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: You said comet slice, right, yeah, that's one.
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: What we did was we sussed out the two fails.
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: You work together to find my bullshit. Oh, I'll be honest.
- 1:29:07Speaker 2: Reading the list, I was like, oh, man, I made
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: these sound way too normal. The other ones are so
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: batshit crazy. We know the Lightning landscaper and earth Rave
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: fucking landscaper just comes out fixes the shrubbery. I think
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: it's it's you. All of you. Fi's moves have like
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: the weirdest fucking names. I know that was one of hers.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Earth Rave I think was Red thirteen, and greased Lightning
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: I think was Tifa.
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: Now did you trip us up on the fact that
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: the uh summoning meteor like getting all the black materia
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: and summoning meteor. It's my favorite like move of all time?
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: And I'm thinking comet meteor shit honestly, not even intentional,
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: I just like, what's a what's a word that is
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: like vaguely spacey or weird that they would attached to attacks.
- 1:29:55Speaker 2: God damn, Like I feel like other ones like they're like,
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: I don't think it's on the list. So I can say,
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: like all of clouds are mostly like some random adverb,
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: adjective or noun, and then like a term for attacking
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: a thing with a sword, like omni slash or like
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: hyper cut, or like just any combination of those. Hard
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: landscaper I think, I think the first iteration of this
- 1:30:17Speaker 2: game for Jason, I legitimately had only things from cloud
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: and they were all just variants of something sword word.
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: Oh no, And even I was like, that's too fucking mean,
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: speaking of mean. You are only one point behind. You
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: get one point here, you tie the game, you get two,
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: you win three, You just the rub in his face.
- 1:30:38Speaker 2: Oh my fake Bravado has failed me so far? What
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: will I do you? You've been regardless, You've been an
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: amazing guest. We'll do plugs afterwards. But this has been
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: so much fun. Yea, so you've already won in our hearts.
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: Oh right, Jason, I'm speaking for you, and yeah, absolutely, silence.
- 1:30:56Speaker 2: That's so sweet.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: I will even tell the people that are just listening
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: that Jay had a big yawn when you were talking
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: about me. I won't even mention it. I'll just pretend
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: like he likes me and we'll just keep rolling with
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: the bit.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: Hell, yes, I didn't even foresee it. I was like,
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: what what do you mean?
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: God, I saw, I saw the bottom of your stomach.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: You yawned so good? Hover in my mouthful laugh self
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: conscious of my big mouth. Oh my god, that was
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: a That was a very good k laugh with the crap,
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: thank you. That's a twink Oh my god, yeah, that
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: is a That is a That is a twink ass
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: queen if we ever had one. My god, he's literally
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: a giant clown that becomes god. Oh after after successfully
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: ending the world, the game literally goes we have to
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: stop Kefka. Oops, we funked up kefka one. He ended
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: the world, got bored, made himself god, and then you
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: kill him.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Twink Pocalypse yep, oh yeah, yeah, look at this guy.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: This is a JoJo's bizarre character if I've ever seen one.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: Apocalypse totally a good fake name from I love it. Actually,
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: I have to look it up. It could be a
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: real one for all we know. Apocalyp slash for to
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: win your final list, your moves are anger Max, card
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: a trick, Giga Dunk, Lunatic High, and dolphin dive. God
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: damn it.
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: Your suck.
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: What was the second one?
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: Second one was card trick. I'm going to go with
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: card trick for my first guess.
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: Okay, well, Jason, how does it feel like winning a game? Finally?
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: Oh wow, wow?
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: He wasn't even away half of this episode.
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: Game amazing. He came in here right away with the
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: Drews doing this to put me down.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: And destroy me. And no, well done. Who's the narrow victory? Okay,
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: I need to know.
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: I need to know. So card trick was fake. Your
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: real ones are anger Max, noe. There's no space in there.
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: It is all one word, anger Max. That was for Barrett.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: Vincent has Giga dunk when he turns into a Frankenstein,
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: because you know you do. And again I'm going back
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: to Red thirteen for the absolute worst names here. Lunatic High.
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: I like I realized as I say, it sounds like
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: a really shitty like drama you would see on like
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: the Disney Channel or something. It's high school for people
- 1:33:27Speaker 2: who think they're crazy. That sounds like all of them.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: I think he just jumps really high, gets silhouette about
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: the moon and comes down and hits somebody in the head.
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: Also things I do all the time, all the Yeah,
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: when the moon's fall, all all you want to do
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: is jump up and silobet yourself for a perfect.
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Shot in anime before you hit somebody. Oh yeah, you
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: can never guess, You can never guess. Congrats, jay I bow,
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: thank you. I have always felt and said that I
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: am the biggest fan of Fantasy NERD. I love them all.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Ye and which ones have you? Have you played x
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: X two which is not eleven? And I know that,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: uh the one with the boy band, which I know
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: no crossover with Assassin's Creed Origins. That just came out
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: of nowhere. I don't understand that.
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: Oh I thought they did that. Oh my god.
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I was shocked for sure, because I was just
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: in Egypt. Then all of a sudden, this fucking dragon
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: and anime k pop boards band guy came out of
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: a fucking sarcophagus.
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: It was wild and awesome. I need to go look
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: that up.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: That's a brilliant combo. That's honestly my favorite final Fantasy
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: game is Assassin's Creed Origins. If I'm being there to
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: see my joke and what I put on a wrestling
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: sign once when I went to an aw show. Is
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: my favorite final fantasy game is Chrono Trigger.
