- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, so I think we have Elena on the phone.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Elena would yes from Nightingale College, right there, Elena, good morning, Hello.
- 0:13Speaker 2: How are you You know?
- 0:16Speaker 3: I'm doing pretty great? Thanks?
- 0:18Speaker 2: Are you? I'm well? Are you good? Have you got
- 0:20Speaker 2: big plans for the twenty fourth of July holiday?
- 0:26Speaker 3: I don't. Actually we usually will go and see some
- 0:30Speaker 3: fireworks or something like that in the evening, but I'm
- 0:34Speaker 3: working during the day.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Looking too exciting, Elena, you have sent us an outline here,
- 0:43Speaker 2: habits to help you eat well consistently, and looking at
- 0:47Speaker 2: myself in the mirror, I eat too well, consistently, too well,
- 0:52Speaker 2: and too consistently.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Where does the Costco chicken bake fit into this? It
- 0:58Speaker 1: does not, does not, it does not.
- 1:02Speaker 3: It can be part of a balanced diet for sure.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I mean, all of this isn't about denying yourself foods
- 1:10Speaker 3: are demonizing certain foods. It's about planning what you want
- 1:14Speaker 3: to eat in advance and sticking to that day after day.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I'm going to have a chicken bake for lunch every day, then.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You know, if that's what you want to do, I
- 1:27Speaker 3: just would recommend having some veggies with it too.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah, have you ever had one Elena.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I think I have many years ago.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Though, Yeah, and you never went back because because you're healthy.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But anyway, what what does it? Plan your meals? That's
- 1:46Speaker 2: that's what.
- 1:46Speaker 3: You're doing, plan your meals. So yeah, that's the first step,
- 1:51Speaker 3: just creating a basic plan for each week, or if
- 1:54Speaker 3: you would rather plan a full month in advance, you
- 1:57Speaker 3: can do that. Just creating a schedule so that you
- 2:01Speaker 3: don't have to decide in the moment when you're already hungry,
- 2:05Speaker 3: when you're already tired, what you're going to eat, and.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Then try not to snack between those periods. But that
- 2:12Speaker 2: you've planned out right.
- 2:16Speaker 3: You know, I'm not offended by snacking. You can snack again,
- 2:21Speaker 3: I recommend seeking those healthier snacks, things like fruits and vegetables.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I have a bag of dried peaches that is my
- 2:29Speaker 3: go to right now for that three PM slump.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Okay, that's the trick. Now, why do you have to
- 2:36Speaker 2: plan hydration? Don't you just drink when you're thirsty?
- 2:41Speaker 3: This, yeah, this is one of the things that often
- 2:44Speaker 3: gets overlooked, and it's because we think, oh, I will
- 2:47Speaker 3: just have a drink when I'm thirsty. But if we
- 2:50Speaker 3: don't have our water handy. We might put it off
- 2:54Speaker 3: and we might not actually have that drink until we
- 2:57Speaker 3: start to get a headache. So just again making a plan,
- 3:01Speaker 3: having your water bottle there if it's hot and you're exercising,
- 3:05Speaker 3: maybe also doing some electrolytes that kind of a thing.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So again just making a plan and making a part
- 3:13Speaker 3: of your routine.
- 3:14Speaker 1: I've been really good about in the morning. First thing
- 3:16Speaker 1: in the morning, before the coffee, I get a big
- 3:19Speaker 1: full glass of water and just fill my.
- 3:24Speaker 2: That's good that. If I had gold stars, I put
- 3:27Speaker 2: one on your forehead.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Thanks right now, listen, I'm.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Giving you a virtual one right now, thank you.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Very much, all right.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And then after that it's just nothing but chicken bake
- 3:36Speaker 1: all day, prep your food and meals in advance.
- 3:42Speaker 3: Yes, and this one for me has been such a
- 3:45Speaker 3: life saver just having pre sliced vegetables or freezer meals
- 3:51Speaker 3: that you can easily throw into the crock pot, something
- 3:54Speaker 3: that you can microwave really quick for lunch. It just
- 3:57Speaker 3: makes it so much easier to not have to spend
- 4:01Speaker 3: an hour getting your lunch ready or whatever it might be.
- 4:05Speaker 3: So having just I.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Guess a lot of those pre a lot of those
- 4:08Speaker 2: pre prepared meals that can be expensive, but I mean,
- 4:12Speaker 2: if you can afford it, they're they're probably pretty good, right, Yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 3: So you can definitely like buy those subscription meals. You
- 4:20Speaker 3: can also do what I used to call meal prep Sunday.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I've kind of changed my schedule a little bit from that,
- 4:27Speaker 3: but just spending a couple of hours on a Sunday
- 4:29Speaker 3: cooking some chicken, cutting some vegetables, pre batching rice, stuff
- 4:35Speaker 3: like that just makes it a lot easier during the week.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Well, I don't wanted to cut into my church time,
- 4:39Speaker 2: so no, no, that's fair. Now. Also, I don't understand
- 4:46Speaker 2: this one. Modify your food environment.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yes, this is just as simple as making the foods
- 4:55Speaker 3: that you want to eat more readily available to you. So,
- 5:01Speaker 3: for example, my dried peaches, they sit at the very
- 5:04Speaker 3: front of the pantry so that they're right in my face.
- 5:07Speaker 3: So when I do go down and I want to snack,
- 5:10Speaker 3: that's one of the first things that I see. The
- 5:12Speaker 3: same with our prefliice carrots. They sit right in the
- 5:16Speaker 3: front of the fridge that way, that's the first thing
- 5:18Speaker 3: that I see, so it's super easy to grab that.
- 5:22Speaker 3: And having like desserts and treats on hand. You definitely
- 5:26Speaker 3: can do that. I just like to put them kind
- 5:29Speaker 3: of in the back of the fridge.
- 5:31Speaker 2: It's difficult to put a whole chocolate cake where I
- 5:33Speaker 2: can't see it though.
- 5:35Speaker 3: That is valid. That is valid. That takes put a
- 5:38Speaker 3: lot of space, for sure.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And I'm the opposite of that though. I'm up to that.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Because when you open up our main cupboard, the first
- 5:46Speaker 1: thing that's just right there, it's a Cheetoh bin, Like, yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 1: we fill a plastic, rubber made thing. It's filled with Cheetos.
- 5:54Speaker 1: It's see through. They look delicious.
- 5:56Speaker 2: It's right there. You shouldn't do that.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I should put that in the back.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not Yeah. You should modify your food and
- 6:02Speaker 2: environment today.
- 6:03Speaker 1: I'm taking notes. I'm sorry.
- 6:05Speaker 2: The regular meals, that's important.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So be consistent with your timing, with your
- 6:13Speaker 3: meal plan, all of that. Your body loves that consistency,
- 6:17Speaker 3: and it also helps us avoid becoming angry in the
- 6:20Speaker 3: middle of the day.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Elena, it's always a pleasure to talk to you. I
- 6:25Speaker 2: hope you have enjoyed the fireworks and uh, and we'll
- 6:29Speaker 2: talk to you in a couple of weeks. And stay safe. Okay, oh,
- 6:32Speaker 2: where can people go to find out more about this stuff?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Even learn more about this as well as Nightingale's amazing
- 6:39Speaker 3: programs by visiting Nightingale dot edu.
- 6:42Speaker 2: All right, thank you, all right, I just got to
- 6:44Speaker 2: get a smaller chocolate cake, smaller one. Yeah, well that's
- 6:48Speaker 2: not so nice.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Had a smaller Cheetos bin for the house.
