- 0:15Welcome to Have Faith. Let it begin. Here's your host, Angel Santana.
- 0:21Ariel, can you say, have faith? Let it begin. Let it begin? Let it begin. Say, have faith.
- 0:30Let it begin. Let it begin. No. No. No? Okay. Hi, Noah. Noah! Noah.
- 0:38Happy birthday, Noah. Hey, then. I'm a little lazy. Can you just put those that say?
- 0:45Noah.
- 0:48Have faith. Let it begin. When it starts right now. Good morning.
- 0:53Today is November 11th. It is Veterans Day.
- 0:57Let us remember that today is a day to honor all those brave men and women who
- 1:03have served and are serving their country with bravery, dedication, and self-sacrifice.
- 1:11My name is Angel, and this is Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 1:14It is an honor to turn today's episode over to my nephew, Amari,
- 1:20who will have an essay that he wrote inspired by his grandfather, my father, Angel Sr.
- 1:29Amari, take it away.
- 1:32Thanks, T.O. Angel, for inviting me to speak on your podcast,
- 1:36Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 1:38Today, I'm going to read my Veterans Day essay, In Pride and Our Veterans.
- 1:44When most people think of superheroes, they think of superpowers and other unreal abilities.
- 1:50But when I think of a superhero, I think of brave, courageous, inspiring.
- 1:58These are the real superheroes, fighting for our freedom no matter the cost,
- 2:02sacrificing so much for sanity, their time, and sometimes their lives.
- 2:09Veterans should be respected, not just on November 11th, but every day.
- 2:14This year, what I have learned is that long ago, entering the military wasn't a choice.
- 2:19Citizens as low as ages, as low as 18, were drafted into the military,
- 2:24not able to have a choice.
- 2:26Recently, my grandfather told me that two weeks after he was married to my grandmother,
- 2:30he was drafted into the army.
- 2:32He was going to fight for the military for two whole years.
- 2:36After a few months of training, my grandfather was sent to fight in the Vietnam War.
- 2:41As he threw into the country to fight for the war, he felt scared and ill.
- 2:47But despite this, he kept going to fight for the war.
- 2:50Instead of giving up, he kept going, knowing he could die. Instead of running
- 2:54away from the danger, he ran to it.
- 2:57That is the heroic act of Serira. Not the one in fairy tales,
- 3:02not the one in comic books. The real one.
- 3:07After the war, my grandfather had seen things he could never forget and lost
- 3:11friends that he had bonded with.
- 3:13Even though the 11th month and 28th days he fought in the Vietnam War was tough,
- 3:19he came home with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
- 3:22As a result, my grandfather dedicated 23 more years of service in the National Guard.
- 3:28I am proud to say that my grandfather retired as a Sergeant First Class E-7.
- 3:35Often during veterans say people will think it's just veterans, but it's more than that.
- 3:40The families, my grandmother would send my grandpa letters each day,
- 3:45hoping she would be able to see him again.
- 3:47Luckily, my grandfather came home safely.
- 3:50Not all veterans could have said the same. So on November 11th,
- 3:54let's try to not only thank these brave soldiers, but thank their loving families.
- 4:02The pride in our veterans.
- 4:06We thank you, Omari, for giving us that beautiful poem. I'm going to call it a poem.
- 4:12We hope that everyone enjoyed today's special edition of the Veterans Day,
- 4:17and we hope and pray that each and every day you're inspired to go and face
- 4:21the world and remember that all the sacrifices made by our military,
- 4:27so that we could have a safer life,
- 4:31no amount of appreciation would be sufficient enough to honor them.
- 4:37Let us just pray for them and their families.
- 4:41Have a happy Veterans Day.
- 4:45Have faith. Let it begin.
- 4:51Hey guys, this is Mia Santana and you're listening to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
