- 0:00It was meant for a toilet. That's what I'm.
- 0:04Not to put too fine a point on it, right?
- 0:06Today on that car show, it's our pal Greg Stanley.
- 0:11You may know Greg from the Collector Car Podcast, but now
- 0:14he's got a book along those same lines too.
- 0:18The Enthusiast Guide to Collector Cars is out now and is
- 0:21a journey through automotive history, culture and passion and
- 0:25includes over 50 contributors including Jay Leno, Sandra
- 0:28Button, and Wayne Carini. Trust us, you'll want to pick
- 0:31one up for yourself. And you want to stay tuned
- 0:34because this is a fun conversation, a little toilet
- 0:37humor even. It's author and podcaster Greg
- 0:39Stanley. And it's that car show.
- 0:44Hey, it's that car show. It's me, Ryan Barky, along with
- 0:47Lindsay, Jess, and tonight we're joined by our pal Greg Stanley,
- 0:51who's got a podcast of his own called the Collector Car
- 0:55Podcast, but who's also the author of a pretty wonderful new
- 0:58book for people like us called The Enthusiast Guide to
- 1:00Collector Cars. So little background on Greg.
- 1:04He specializes in Enzo era Ferraris, first Gen.
- 1:06Mustangs and Shelby cars of various types.
- 1:09And he's been a judge at events like the Cavallino Classic,
- 1:12Concourse Italiano and Ferraris Annual Experience.
- 1:15A career highlight for Greg was consigning a 1962 Ferrari that
- 1:19sold for $52 million in 2023. That's real money, as they say.
- 1:24And at the time, it was the most valuable Ferrari ever sold at
- 1:27auction. So I think Greg knows his shit,
- 1:29and we're here to pry it all out of him tonight.
- 1:32Greg, welcome to that car show. Thanks.
- 1:35Now, how long can I have that bullet point as a fun fact?
- 1:40Right. When is it inappropriate?
- 1:43Like if I'm if I'm 90 and I'm in a retirement home, am I still
- 1:48introduced that way or is it pretty much over in like 2
- 1:51weeks? I feel like maybe there's like a
- 1:53valley where like it's going to be good for the next like 1015
- 1:57years, then maybe it kind of drops off because I feel like
- 2:01that's a pretty fantastic sound bite if you're in the nursing.
- 2:03Home. It's hard to repeat, right.
- 2:05And it's technically the the still the most expensive Ferrari
- 2:08ever publicly sold. Yeah.
- 2:10And so I'm like, well, I'd like to have a new one, but right,
- 2:14that's a big ask. I think that's a great, like you
- 2:18just summed it up where it can be even when it kind of drops
- 2:22off, it can be your secret motivator.
- 2:24And let's say it doesn't get repeated.
- 2:27That's great. Then you have a Ron Burgundy
- 2:28moment in the nursing home and you're like, I don't know if you
- 2:31know, I'm kind of a big deal. You may have heard of me.
- 2:35Yeah. I mean, you can't, it can't be
- 2:37like, you know, the world's third most expensive 240Z, you
- 2:43know, like you gotta have the right.
- 2:45So anyways. Because I really know that's
- 2:48also it's, it's a good like unintentional friendly litmus
- 2:53test where you kind of throw it out there and like the people
- 2:55that know are going to bite on it and you're like, all right, I
- 2:57found my people. Or if they're like true, great.
- 3:00So what's for lunch? You're like, that's fine.
- 3:02Like not a car guy or not a car person.
- 3:06Really, all this just goes in to prove, you know, that there are
- 3:09car people and then there are car people like you who are
- 3:11fully embedded right in the hobby, in the profession.
- 3:14So where did all this start for you And and how do we plant that
- 3:17same seed in our own kids, Greg? That's a great question.
- 3:21Mine got planted. So I, I call it the my forbidden
- 3:26fruit moment. And so my dad was always
- 3:29flipping cars, nothing special, you know, kind of junk cars,
- 3:32just trying. He's a teacher educator and he's
- 3:34just trying to make an extra buck, you know, So this is the
- 3:37early 80s. And so I never knew what was
- 3:39sitting outside, you know, And then one day his friend showed
- 3:44up and I was probably 15 years old and he showed up in this red
- 3:4866 Mustang convertible white top, you know, just gorgeous.
- 3:51The, the wire spinner wheels. And I fell in love with the
- 3:55thing, so much so that I took pictures of it.
- 3:58I still have pictures of it. I offered to wash it so I could
- 4:01touch it. And I think the key point is, is
- 4:06I like, went inside, did something, came back outside and
- 4:09it was gone. Like, I never sat in it.
- 4:12I never opened the door, I never touched it, I never watched it
- 4:16and so like that got fixated in my brain at that moment in time
- 4:21and I don't currently have a Mustang.
- 4:23You can see the one I used to have behind me there that I
- 4:26found at Amelia Island during auction week underneath a tarp
- 4:29and it's a real K code That was amazing find that's.
- 4:32Incredible. Yeah.
- 4:34And so that was that was the moment and I, I ended up joining
- 4:36the Mustang Club of America. I became a Mustang judge of
- 4:40first generation Mustangs, and that's where it all started,
- 4:44yeah. I love that you imprinted on the
- 4:46red convertible, which, you know, as Mustangs go, that's a
- 4:49pretty classic choice. Yeah, like it's understandable.
- 4:52Yeah, looking back at the picture, I'm like, ah, it's got
- 4:55the wrong, you know, stripes on the rocker, You know, it's
- 4:59probably AC code 2 barrel. But at the time I was absolutely
- 5:03blown away. Absolutely.
- 5:04It was an absolute. You started on this journey.
- 5:07Right. Yeah, that's really one of the
- 5:09tenants of your book is that, you know, collecting cars should
- 5:11begin with genuine interest, right?
- 5:13And not just investment potential or breaking rights
- 5:16that go along with having, you know, a classic Ferrari or
- 5:19something. So why do so many of us screw
- 5:21that up? Well, you know, it's funny
- 5:24because the first car I think I mentioned in the book is the
- 5:26Miata, you know, as one of the best enthusiasts, collector cars
- 5:32of all time. Not necessarily valuable, you
- 5:34know, but it's, you know, truly engaging, fun, exciting to
- 5:39drive. It's a driver's car.
- 5:41I loved your description of it because it it was, you know, and
- 5:44I'm paraphrasing, obviously, but it was like, it reinvigorated
- 5:48the car enthusiast, sort of like get out and drive, like the, the
- 5:54enjoyment of it, right? It was like a hey, guys, It's
- 5:57still fun. Yeah.
- 5:59Yeah, yeah. And what I found really
- 6:00interesting is I had asked a bunch of people to contribute to
- 6:03the book. And one of the folks is previous
- 6:06podcast guest Dave Kinney, Who does, you know, he created like
- 6:10the valuation tools for Hacker, right?
- 6:11He's the valuation guy. You're right.
- 6:13And his quote was had nothing to do with value.
- 6:18His quote was all about, you know, if it's important to you,
- 6:22it's a collectible car, you know, right.
- 6:24There's that connection of some sort.
- 6:26And I didn't know that he was going to write that.
- 6:28And so when I saw it, I'm like, oh, that's really cool.
- 6:30I like, I love, I love that perspective from the valuation
- 6:33guy. Well, it's even more meaningful.
- 6:36And then that like either by chance or, you know,
- 6:41intentionally ends up being a thread throughout the book where
- 6:43you talk about the passion and the authenticity of the, you
- 6:47know, interest in cars. And it ties in with what you
- 6:50talk about, you know, do how how you define the value of a car.
- 6:56And I think Jay Leno said this in his blurb that he contributed
- 7:01to the book of if there's a car that your grandfather took you
- 7:04for ice cream in every Sunday, that's priceless, right?
- 7:07No matter, you know, what it is. Is it original numbers matching?
- 7:12None of that is relevant because it has, you know, sentimental
- 7:15value and you can't replicate that.
- 7:18So did you just read the book or did you remember that?
- 7:24I read the book. Like recently.
- 7:27Yes, OK, After you sent it to us.
- 7:30Oh, OK. I'm just impressed you remember.
- 7:32That from the very. Beginning.
- 7:34I mean it's. 400 pages, right? So can I tell you a quick
- 7:39question about that quote from Leno?
- 7:41Yes. Please.
- 7:42So I had my Pontiac, this GTO behind me at the time on Leno's
- 7:46garage like 2 years ago and that took me 4 years to get the car
- 7:51on the garage on the on his show and it was fantastic.
- 7:54It was awesome. So Long story short, when I
- 7:56asked for a quote for the book, I go through his producer, super
- 8:00nice guy David. And years ago when I was trying
- 8:05to get Jay on the podcast, another person who I talked to,
- 8:10she's like, all right, Jay might call ya.
- 8:13So if you get a call from a no caller ID, answer it.
- 8:17Make sure you say for like 2 months I'm answering every no
- 8:20caller ID hoping it's Jay. Leno, you are the phone scammers
- 8:24favorite Mark what we're hearing.
- 8:26And it never was. It never was, Jay.
- 8:28And so Fast forward to this book request after I've been on the
- 8:33show and it's just one afternoon and I get I get a ton of spam
- 8:37calls, you know, and it usually it says spam.
- 8:39And then I got this, no caller ID.
- 8:41I'm like, all right, I wasn't thinking Jay Leno.
- 8:45I was thinking maybe I should answer this call.
- 8:48So I answer it and he says, hey, Greg, it's Jay.
- 8:51I'm like, Oh my God, this is awesome.
- 8:53You know, he's like, what are you looking for?
- 8:55And I said, well, here's what I'm looking for for a quote.
- 9:00He's like, OK, I'll, I'll, I'll get back to you.
- 9:03Well, then he calls me back like in, I don't know, two hours, 3
- 9:07hours. And he's like, well, here's what
- 9:09I wrote. And it wasn't like he had
- 9:11somebody write it for him. Like he's like, here's what I
- 9:14wrote. What do you think?
- 9:15So he's reading that to me verbatim.
- 9:17And I'm like tearing up because I'm like, this is awesome.
- 9:20This is amazing. And then he's like, is that
- 9:22good? I'm like, yeah, that's great.
- 9:25And he's like, what's your e-mail address?
- 9:28And so I tell him my e-mail address.
- 9:30And I'm thinking in my brain, I'm like, is Jay Leno about to
- 9:32send me an e-mail from his personal e-mail account?
- 9:34And he did. And I asked them wisely before
- 9:38we hung up. I'm like, hey, can I put you on
- 9:40my newsletter? Because I do a newsletter, like,
- 9:42every Monday. And.
- 9:45And he's like, yeah. And so, like, I don't know, six
- 9:48months later, I've like, I told someone, like, man, I wish I
- 9:51knew if Jay ever read my e-mail, you know?
- 9:53And he's like, you know, you could look that up.
- 9:54Just look at your newsletter provider.
- 9:56And so I did and he opens every single e-mail and I was like
- 10:01blown away on like on multiple levels, you know, And now when I
- 10:05see Jay, I always have to remind who I am.
- 10:06I'm like, I wrote that book. He's like, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:09And or I have the gold GTO because he meets so many people.
- 10:12There's no way he. Sure.
- 10:14Yeah. Anyway, so it was just a really
- 10:15cool experience. That's incredible.
- 10:17I know I've, I've gotten to meet him a couple times and I'm
- 10:19always like, yeah, I don't ever expect you to remember the
- 10:22number of people that pass in front of him, you know?
- 10:24Sure. So if I get a a no caller ID
- 10:28call during this interview, I'm going to answer it.
- 10:31OK, that's. Nice.
- 10:32And we're going to put it as part of this.
- 10:34Stuff. Yeah, because he is.
- 10:35Supposed to contribute to the Porsche book?
- 10:37I asked him. That cool, cool, cool, cool.
- 10:39They said yeah, we'll do it. So I just love knowing that Jay
- 10:42remembers people by cars like the rest of us, right that.
- 10:45That's a lot easier, yeah. Yeah, it's like when you meet
- 10:49people at the dog park and you're like, yeah, I remember
- 10:51the dog and I know the dog's name.
- 10:53Couldn't tell you the owner's name, but anyway, yeah.
- 10:55I feel so bad, Sarah, that I can't.
- 10:57Right, I know. And Mark, yeah.
- 11:00Yeah, Jordan, it's lovely that you have joined us tonight.
- 11:03We are so thrilled to have you with us.
- 11:05Yes. And we're just gonna, yeah,
- 11:07we're gonna go by car names from here on out.
- 11:09That's right. Yeah, Jay's the real deal, isn't
- 11:11he? I mean it's.
- 11:12I don't know how he does it because when we we saw him at
- 11:15all drain, he just walked into broad arrow like looking around,
- 11:18you know, and I I had my book with me, my copy, because I want
- 11:24to get any contributor to autograph my copy.
- 11:27And I well, I ran out to my rental car and I grabbed it and
- 11:30I'm like, all right, I need to get Jay to sign this.
- 11:32So he signed it and he did a little illustration of himself.
- 11:36Oh my gosh. So I have an illustration that
- 11:39Jay Leno did and then I have an illustration of what's the car,
- 11:44the car from cars like Jay Ward or Lightning McQueen done by Jay
- 11:50Ward. From Jay.
- 11:51Oh my. Gosh, Jay drew that in the book.
- 11:53And then so I'm like, well, who else can I get to Draw Something
- 11:56in the book? Apparently they have to be named
- 11:58Jay though. Well, that's true.
- 12:01Oh, OK. I'm like, wait a minute.
- 12:03So if your name is Jay, you're allowed to draw in Greg's book.
- 12:05Otherwise, you are only allowed to sign your name.
- 12:07That's right. That's that's the rules, yeah.
- 12:10Yeah, I don't make the rules, you know, that's.
- 12:12Right. So you grew up with your dad
- 12:14flipping these cars and I'm a, you know, I'm a child of
- 12:17educators myself. So absolutely see how that would
- 12:20have gone down, you know, So through high school, college,
- 12:22you know, what were you into? What did you drive?
- 12:24What was your first car? My first car, and I have a
- 12:27picture of it was a 68 Mustang coupe.
- 12:30And because I wanted to make sure if I spent my money, that
- 12:34would be my first car and I didn't have any money and I
- 12:37couldn't afford a 65 or 66. So I got a 68.
- 12:42My cousin helped me find it. I didn't know at the time that
- 12:45it did not have an engine, so I just trusted him.
- 12:49He's like, hey, it's $1000, It's a.
- 12:51Car. Yeah, and it's a six cylinder 3
- 12:54speed, no options. And I'm like, all right, that
- 12:57sounds good. And so I get to a.
- 12:58Cylinder is not in it, but that's right, minor details.
- 13:03I'm like, there's no engine. He's like, oh, don't worry about
- 13:05that. I know there's an engine.
- 13:06So we, we jumped in like a 79 Dodge, you know, step side
- 13:11orange pickup truck and we threw a tire in the bed because that's
- 13:16how you transport an engine block if you put a tire there to
- 13:19hold the engine block. So, so he threw that in and we
- 13:22went to a junkyard where he knew there was a 250 cubic inch
- 13:26little straight 6 engine out of another Mustang, probably a 69
- 13:29or 70 Mustang. And we threw it in the the truck
- 13:32bed and I'm sitting in the truck bed, you know, like holding the
- 13:36engine by the carburetor. And he installed it like, you
- 13:41know, got it running because I live 3 1/2 hours away.
- 13:43And I was like college and I went to pick it up and I had a
- 13:47really loud exhaust leak. Like I was smelling the fumes,
- 13:51you know, as I'm driving 3 1/2 hours home.
- 13:54And I called him when I got back.
- 13:55He's like, man, I'm surprised she made it.
- 13:57I'm like, oh, well, thanks. You know, I'm like a 18 year old
- 14:00kid. I don't know what to do and, and
- 14:04then as I had that car, I only had it for like a year and a
- 14:06half. Then I I actually made money on
- 14:08that car as I would drive it, it would conk out all of a sudden
- 14:14and I realized that the fuel filter was getting full of rust
- 14:20particles from the gas tank. And.
- 14:22So because I didn't have any money, I learned, oh, if I just
- 14:27take off the fuel filter and I shake it out, I can drive for
- 14:30another three or four days. So that's what I would do is I
- 14:34would. Empty out part of your routine.
- 14:36That was part of my routine, yeah.
- 14:38And I, I, I lived in Jacksonville and, you know, I
- 14:43would drive it on hot summers with no ACA 100 and 1° outside.
- 14:47And I, I had it, I don't know, a year and a half or so.
- 14:50Then I sold it to an Air Force guy that wanted to put a big V8
- 14:53engine in it. I'm like, all right, I, I bought
- 14:55it, you know, I had like $1500 in it.
- 14:57It sold for three grand. Wow, wow.
- 14:59Hey, it was all downhill from there, huh?
- 15:02That's right. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:04Where where'd you go to from, from there?
- 15:06I mean, what was what was next? And, and and I guess when did
- 15:09this become a profession for you?
- 15:11Not that long ago, 2000 pandemic, honestly.
- 15:18Really. Yeah.
- 15:19Pretty much. So what was your path from the
- 15:22red Mustang to? So my path.
- 15:24Is staying and then you know to where you are now.
- 15:28My path is really weird. Everything's because of the
- 15:30podcast, because I was in the food industry.
- 15:35I was Nabisco, Kraft Foods, Mondelez, and I just happened to
- 15:40look on LinkedIn. This is like 2019, not that long
- 15:43ago. It's on LinkedIn.
- 15:46And they had a advertisement for a car specialist, you know, open
- 15:50position. So I applied.
- 15:52I did not hear anything back. And they had, I'd never been to
- 15:57an ARM auction. I'd never been a car auction
- 16:00ever. Maybe Mecum.
- 16:02I went to Mecum Indianapolis, you know, numerous years.
- 16:05And so anyways, they had an auction in Dayton, OH, the John
- 16:11Dixon Porsche collection. And so I said, well, I'm going
- 16:13to go up there and, you know, see what's going on.
- 16:16So I go up there and first person I see is Donnie Gold
- 16:19walking by. And I recognized him from, like,
- 16:22TV, like chasing classic cars or something.
- 16:24Yeah, well, I knew who he was. And I said, Donnie, I submitted
- 16:28a resume. I never heard anything back.
- 16:30And so Donnie pointed to Ken and said, go talk to that guy.
- 16:34And now Donnie takes 100% credit for giving me my career because
- 16:37he pointed to Ken. Yeah, I owe him a drink every
- 16:39time I see him. He's awesome.
- 16:42Anyway, so Ken said, you know, HR filters kicked out your
- 16:45resume. Here's my e-mail address, send
- 16:47me your resume. So I send him my resume.
- 16:49I don't know, like 3 months later I hear from him and he
- 16:52said we're not going to hire you, but we like your podcast
- 16:56and the people you have your network, you know, so we'll pick
- 16:59up your podcast as our official podcast.
- 17:01And you can be a part time car specialist however you want.
- 17:06And so I started consigning cars, you know, and that's back
- 17:09when we had Auburn. Auburn was a good one.
- 17:11I got like 1112 cars at Auburn and I was enjoying it.
- 17:14And then I consigned the $52 million car.
- 17:17And you know, after a while, I'm like, you know, maybe I should
- 17:21try to do this full time. And so I did it full time for
- 17:25probably a little bit over a year.
- 17:27And it's a really, really hard job, like a car specialist job
- 17:31because you're bait. It's not just your network,
- 17:34because your network, you might know the best collectors in the
- 17:36world, but if they already have a relationship with that auction
- 17:39house, you can't do business with them, right, Right.
- 17:42You know, and I remember 11 Monterey, I, I rolled up like
- 17:46$2,000,000 worth of cars and I didn't get any of them in
- 17:50because at the point, you know, they're the average value, let's
- 17:53call it 350 four, $100,000. But they only had so many spots
- 17:57left. So they're looking for
- 17:58$1,000,000 cars. So I understand why, but if
- 18:01you're trying to make a living, it's pretty hard.
- 18:04It is a hard road to hoe, as they say.
- 18:06Yeah, so anyways, my podcast transitioned into the enthusiast
- 18:12guidebook, which is a series and Broad Arrow, you know, via kin
- 18:19because he moved from arm to help start Broad Arrow, right.
- 18:23You know, they had been asking me to come over and I said I'll
- 18:25come over as a if you want to sponsor my podcast in my book
- 18:28series, I would love to work with you again and let me do the
- 18:31car specialist stuff as it works for me.
- 18:33I don't want that expectation on me from an everyday perspective.
- 18:37So it's really worked out great. Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 18:40It's, I don't know, two months in and it's been wonderful.
- 18:44And they're great because I've worked with them before, you
- 18:46know? Yeah, yeah.
- 18:47That helps. So how does it really end up?
- 18:50Sorry, go ahead. I was just going to say it's a
- 18:52really weird career path that yeah, like, you know, I somehow
- 18:56I turned my passion into my day job.
- 18:58Not quite sure how. Yeah.
- 18:59Well, so a lot of times people will say they'll refer to it as
- 19:03like I, you know, if somebody's really into golf, they go work
- 19:06as a golf pro or work at a Golf Club and they're like, and then
- 19:09my hobby became work and I didn't enjoy my hobby anymore.
- 19:12So what has it been like for you turning your passion into a
- 19:15career? Like what has that been like?
- 19:19That is a wonderful question. You burned out yet, Greg?
- 19:24Right here. Oh no, I'm not stalling.
- 19:26I swear I have an answer. That's a great question.
- 19:29I'm so glad you asked. Thanks so much.
- 19:31And yeah. Now, have you had Myron Vernus
- 19:33on? Yes, Yeah, we love Myron.
- 19:35Yeah. Yeah, so Myron's great.
- 19:37So before I joined RMI, called him to get his opinion and he's
- 19:41like, why would you ever want to do that?
- 19:45He's like, you're going to not like cars anymore, is basically
- 19:48what he was saying. Yeah.
- 19:49And he's not wrong. So to answer your question, I
- 19:55guess it's tough because now as you guys are, you probably when
- 20:00you go to a car show, if there's a hundred cars, there might be
- 20:04two that excites you because you know so much and you see so much
- 20:09and you experience so much. You're like, you know, 350 Bondo
- 20:14not interested. You know, like, oh, you know,
- 20:17those wheels are from the 1990s. That's, you know, like you can
- 20:20go through. The cars so fast that it you
- 20:25find it a little harder to find something that really gets you
- 20:27excited. Yeah.
- 20:29And that's. So the joy is still there.
- 20:32It's just I don't know if it's if you're more selective, if
- 20:35you're more, I don't know it. It sounds really high
- 20:37maintenance I would imagine. You're chasing the dragon,
- 20:40right? We all are.
- 20:41I mean, I want that, that next hit, right?
- 20:43That the thing we haven't tried, we haven't seen, right?
- 20:45Well, the two cars behind me, I mean, the hypo, that's a rare
- 20:49car and I found it under a tarp in Mailee Island during car
- 20:53week. So that was a really cool thing.
- 20:54And then the GTO Unrestored original family special ordered.
- 20:58Crazy. Those are cars everybody should
- 21:01get excited about. Yeah.
- 21:04So now it's a really good question.
- 21:06So my love for cars has not died.
- 21:08I actually, as I write the, as I wrote the first book, I got more
- 21:12excited about cars as I researched them because I didn't
- 21:17appreciate brass era as much as I should have.
- 21:20I definitely didn't appreciate the classic era as I researched
- 21:24it. I'm like, Oh my gosh, now I see
- 21:26why these cars are all over Pebble Beach.
- 21:28Like I get appreciated and like, oh, that's a Duesenberg.
- 21:30That's gorgeous. That's the fastest car for two
- 21:32decades, you know? But understanding its placement
- 21:36in time in the industry and what was happening, my appreciation
- 21:41has multiplied because I understand it more, you know.
- 21:46Right. Well, that was something
- 21:48something that was really interesting to me about your
- 21:50book was the veteran era. And I mean, I say this all the
- 21:54time, like as much as we know about the car world, there is
- 21:59exponentially more that we don't know.
- 22:01And so when I started flipping through the book, I went the
- 22:03veteran era. How have I never run across
- 22:05this? I've never heard of that.
- 22:06And I've been in the car world pretty much from the time I was
- 22:09born. So that was really cool to learn
- 22:12about that. And you know, I feel like I've
- 22:15heard brass era a lot and it seems like in a way they go hand
- 22:20in hand, but maybe you can talk a little bit about the veteran
- 22:22era for those It's. Just the evolution I've heard
- 22:25about. Yeah, define that if you would,
- 22:26Greg. It's just the evolution
- 22:28transitioning from 1. So you, I think it was the
- 22:31veterinarian to veterinarian area to, you know, to brass era,
- 22:36then to the classic era. So it's just the transition as
- 22:40technology improves. And that's what I loved about
- 22:43both those arrows. Yeah, you know, I combined them
- 22:45into one because I was trying to not have a, it was already like
- 22:48a 20 chapter book. But that was so fascinating
- 22:52because they're trying to figure it out like, all right.
- 22:55You know, originally a lot of the cars had the driver on the
- 22:57right hand side, you know, versus the left.
- 23:00And then some of them had a steering wheel, some of them had
- 23:02a tiller. You know, some of them had the
- 23:04brake pedal into the, or the accelerator pedal in the middle.
- 23:09There was no standardization yet, you know, some were chain
- 23:13drives, some were leather strap driven, you know, I mean, it was
- 23:18fascinating. And they can, it's almost like a
- 23:21fancy watch now or you know, so mechanical and you know, there's
- 23:26no early, early cars, There's no, there's no battery, you
- 23:30know, there's no, you know, it's all mechanical, you know, it's
- 23:34really, really interesting stuff, so.
- 23:36Craig did that standardization come out of World War 2IN large
- 23:40part or you know, when I don't know, you turn dials to the
- 23:44right to increase things and you you know, I mean, there was this
- 23:47I feel like it was about that same time when things.
- 23:48You know, it was a gradual, I want to say, and I could be
- 23:52wrong on this, but I believe Ford standardized the left hand
- 23:55driving and they kind of made it a standard just from sheer
- 23:59volume, you know, of, of cars on the road.
- 24:04It just so much of it just came over time.
- 24:06And you can see that even today, I mean, it's still especially as
- 24:09we get to like autonomous cars, but even electric cars, like how
- 24:12do we, how do we quantify the fuel economy and a electric car,
- 24:18you know, they're all that stuff.
- 24:19It's pretty interesting to see it happen.
- 24:20So I don't know, I, I sometimes I say the more electrified the
- 24:24world becomes, the more people will want the mechanical stuff.
- 24:29And so like, I don't think brass era is dead.
- 24:31I don't think the classic era is dead.
- 24:33You know, I think people will continue to go back and find
- 24:37that stuff, especially as it goes down in value, you'll find
- 24:39more people like, oh, let's explore this, you know, right,
- 24:41let's. Dabble, Yeah.
- 24:43Right, don't don't we all want authenticity right now?
- 24:46The genuine article, I mean, and you can't get more genuine or
- 24:49authentic than than that early stuff, right?
- 24:52I mean, it's it's experiential, right.
- 24:55It's it's all the, you know, part of the Colorado Grand, you
- 24:57know, and I'm so lucky to be a part of that.
- 24:59And I think the, the cars that were the group of people are the
- 25:02people driving like the blower Bentleys, right, right.
- 25:05You know, 100 year old cars and, and some, you know, I mean,
- 25:08yeah, the 300 SLS are, are wonderful.
- 25:10But you know, it's this, it's those blower Bentley drivers who
- 25:13are just having the best time. It's hailing, you know, they
- 25:16don't care, you know, the, the car's made out of fabric, right?
- 25:20They're just, they're just having a a great old time, you
- 25:22know, and that's a car. You know, I think like you when
- 25:24writing this book, the brass hair stuff, some of that early
- 25:26stuff, it was never on my radar. Never in a million years did I
- 25:29lust after something like that. Now there's nothing I want more
- 25:32than one of those Bentleys. You know, I just because you
- 25:35know what a, what a great experience, right?
- 25:37I mean, it's, that's all that thing is an, is an experience,
- 25:41right? You, you can't, they don't make
- 25:43that anymore, right? So you've got to go back in
- 25:45time. You've got to go back to those
- 25:46earlier eras. Right, right.
- 25:48Yeah, No, it's really crazy because I actually put a video
- 25:50up. I I will not get the name right,
- 25:52but like the first Ben's patent wagon, whatever it was called
- 25:56the three Wheeler. 18 The tiller, yeah. 98 you know, this
- 26:03is back. You know when I mentioned
- 26:04earlier there weren't batteries, well, people hand cranked, you
- 26:06know, that's back when you had the hand crank.
- 26:08And I always thought it'd be cool to see one of those
- 26:12running. And when I was at Monterey, I
- 26:14don't know if you saw it, but I guess Gooding had one and they
- 26:17were doing a test drive right out in front where the, what was
- 26:22it called? The Concorde Tour.
- 26:24Tour de Pebble. Yes, where they were taken off
- 26:27and I got a video of this guy driving that thing around as
- 26:29like a test drive. I'm like, this is the coolest
- 26:31thing ever, right? Yeah.
- 26:33Doesn't it spit out oil as it drives, right?
- 26:35Like it's just part of the design, Right?
- 26:37OK. Yeah, that's inherent.
- 26:40It now is not the one that, and I don't know the exact name, but
- 26:45that the wife of who ultimately developed Mercedes-Benz, she was
- 26:49the one he'd been developing and developing and developing.
- 26:52And you know, as the legend has it, she finally went enough and
- 26:56she took her mom and one of their sons and they went on, you
- 26:59know which what in that day was this epic 12 hour road trip by
- 27:04herself in if it wasn't that exact car, it was something like
- 27:08that. And no, you're totally right.
- 27:11And you go, what in the world? And this is before a Rd.
- 27:15Yeah, I mean, it was. Gravel or dirt roads, you know.
- 27:20Well, and probably the idea of like a woman driving was insane,
- 27:24let alone this car driving, you know, and driving that distance.
- 27:27You know, I got to go to the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center in
- 27:32Long Beach. And Nate Lander, who was on the
- 27:35show, he was telling that story about the car.
- 27:38And it's, I mean, it's just mind blowing when you look at it and
- 27:40you go, this is just wild. And it's like you said, with the
- 27:44veteran era and the brass era, that had to be incredible to see
- 27:48because it's almost like you can see the thought process
- 27:51physically played out as they're developing and figuring out like
- 27:55what works and what doesn't and how we want to standardize and
- 27:57that kind of thing. You know, we talked about the
- 27:59technology being leaps and bounds in the last couple
- 28:03decades for us and it had to be a version of that for them at
- 28:07the time, but with the automobile.
- 28:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really amazing time to be, you
- 28:14know, to experience and I would love to have an old Model T
- 28:18model A or whatever. And if you go to back to Jay
- 28:22Leno, if you go this year, he, he wanted to teach his producer
- 28:27David how to drive, who's like probably 37 or or so how to
- 28:31drive and, or start and drive a Model T.
- 28:35And that video got so many views and so much interest.
- 28:40And if you think it's, oh, how hard can it be?
- 28:43It's pretty confusing when you see all the stuff you have to
- 28:46do. Yeah, I'm like, oh man, you got
- 28:48to write this thing down. You know, I'm not sure.
- 28:50Once you do it, you're, it's easy peasy, you know, once you
- 28:53get into it. But it's like a 10 step process
- 28:55to get that thing going down the road.
- 28:57Yeah. Even though they're simple, you
- 28:58know, fix it with a hammer kind of stuff.
- 29:01Sure. Yeah.
- 29:01So I would love to have a brass or nickel air car for a little
- 29:06while, you know, just to experience.
- 29:08Just to try it out, right? Yeah, I want to try a car with
- 29:11brakes only in the rear. You know, I think that would add
- 29:13some spice to my day. Right.
- 29:16Yeah, it's not the. Starting Marvin things up.
- 29:19Yeah, it's the braking. You got a plan.
- 29:21Yeah, exactly, Exactly. Yeah.
- 29:23You know, you mentioned that patent wagon.
- 29:24I don't know if you follow TfL, Roman Micah's the guy and his
- 29:28son Tommy that do the TfL channels on YouTube and they've
- 29:31got a podcast as well. They bought one of those patent
- 29:33wagons, one of those recreations, the 85 or whatever
- 29:35that Mercedes-Benz built. And they've got a video they did
- 29:39a few weeks ago where they took one to McDonald's and ran it
- 29:41through the drive through. And they were refused service
- 29:44because in the eyes of the McDonald's workers, they were on
- 29:46a bicycle. Oh my God, That just goes to
- 29:49show how far the the idea of a car has come.
- 29:53Or you know, this concept of of what is a car has has come.
- 29:56Back in high school, we would jump on the little trigger thing
- 29:59to say in a car was pulling up and we'd walk up and act like we
- 30:03were driving. And they served us, you know, I
- 30:06mean. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 30:11Now they probably call the call the cops, but what do you know?
- 30:14I do think that there's this renewed interest in these older
- 30:17cars, but what do you think is next?
- 30:18What do you think is still undiscovered?
- 30:20It doesn't have to be something that's going to, you know, pop
- 30:22off in value, but just something that you think there's really
- 30:24something there that can be appreciated that people haven't
- 30:27found yet. I don't know that there's much
- 30:30out there from that perspective. What I will say is if you look
- 30:34at the history of the so I interviewed Donald Osborne
- 30:37recently and he had a really good point.
- 30:39Like typically I would tell people, you know, if your dream
- 30:43car was a 57 T bird, you're probably selling that or your
- 30:47state is selling that 57 T bird right now just because of
- 30:50demographics. You know, you're probably in
- 30:52your late 70s, early 80s, and that's why the prices are going
- 30:56down, which I do believe is a part of it.
- 30:59But Donald had a really good point.
- 31:00He's like, basically, I'm not going to get this exactly right.
- 31:03But instead of having, you know, 40 years of cars that collector
- 31:09cars to chase, we have like 90 years of collector cars to
- 31:13chase, you know, and every year it gets long wider, you know,
- 31:16the the era of offerings gets bigger, right?
- 31:22And so I'm like, that is so correct because I sold my
- 31:24Mustang, so my GTO and like I'm looking at an 85911 hopefully
- 31:30next week. I tried to buy a 97 BMW, which
- 31:33were never on my radar until they're 2030 years old.
- 31:37And I'm like, well, that's a really, really good point.
- 31:40And so, you know, if you look at the entire time frame of cars,
- 31:47year to date and look in the future and let's make the
- 31:49assumption that in the future they're not going to be
- 31:53collectible like the new Ferrari SF90.
- 31:56Like where are you going to get that battery service?
- 31:58Who's going to do replacement parts?
- 32:00You know, electrical, like Jay Leno likes to say is electric.
- 32:04Electrical stuff disintegrates or you know, mechanical stuff
- 32:09you can fix, you know. And so, you know, you could make
- 32:13the argument that there are no more future collectibles right
- 32:16now, except for some very rare hyper whatever stuff.
- 32:20And so if you, if you go by that mindset, that will continue to
- 32:24have more, you know, computer, you know, CPU's, all that kind
- 32:29of stuff. Going forward.
- 32:32To me, the, the could be the most significant collectible
- 32:36time frame is going to be like 2005 to 2015, you know, 'cause
- 32:42it's like the last of the cars you can actually kind of work
- 32:45on. They're pretty quick.
- 32:47They're pretty fast. And so like I would love to have
- 32:51and, and everybody, all the Porsche guys are going after
- 32:53this, but like the last small naturally aspirated 9/11 manual
- 33:00is a 2012 Carrera S. And so I would, I would love to
- 33:03have one of those, but everybody else is realizing that as well.
- 33:07Is a popular opinion. It is a yeah, I got laughed at
- 33:11by a guy. He's like, oh, you're just going
- 33:13after that because everybody else is.
- 33:14I'm like oh I don't know everybody else wants but like I
- 33:17bought my wife an 05 boxer S out of a collection.
- 33:21Only had 19,000 miles on it. Wow wow.
- 33:23And that's a great little. Car A wonderful car.
- 33:26She's got almost 7000 miles on it now.
- 33:28It's been a year and a half, you know, and.
- 33:30She's enjoying it. That's great.
- 33:32Yeah, and I've said this. Before we should all be buying
- 33:35those, we should be filling barns with those cars because
- 33:38they're just wonderful and they're, they'll never be
- 33:40cheaper, right? And they're never going to make
- 33:42those cars again. And it's an era of time.
- 33:45I say like the last of the analog, but everything was
- 33:47analog prior. Well, you know, it's a moment of
- 33:51time. It's a sliding scale.
- 33:53A sliding scale, but it's like the highest performance, most
- 33:56reliable creature comforts, you know, not overrun with CPU's
- 34:02and, you know, hybridization and batteries.
- 34:06And so it could be like the really sweet spot.
- 34:10And so like my daily is a 2000 14 Toya FJ and I've got 125,000
- 34:17miles on it and I've been thinking about selling it and
- 34:20getting a Grenadier because I'm like why would I not put another
- 34:24100,000 miles on this FJ because I'll never have one again you
- 34:28know, unless I, you know, find a little mile 1 so.
- 34:31Yeah, well, I. Don't know if that answered your
- 34:33question or not. Yeah, it did.
- 34:36It did I. No, I love it.
- 34:39So I have to ask, what 97 BMW were you almost buying?
- 34:44This is where a car specialist job sucks because I.
- 34:49We're going to get lost behind the curtain.
- 34:50That's what we like. Well, like I've lost some
- 34:54collections that had nothing to do with me.
- 34:56And, you know, you build these relationships up for years and
- 35:00then some other auction house swings in with a big check and
- 35:03you're, you're done. You know, and this was a little
- 35:08different. This was a friend of mine and I
- 35:10I was chasing the car before I was with RM and anyways, he
- 35:15bought it new. 97, four door, white M3.
- 35:20I didn't know this, but they call the nickname that what the
- 35:22kids call it. It's the 345, yeah.
- 35:24M3 Kramer taught me that. 5 speed.
- 35:27Yeah, they and I love it. And it's just a perfect car and
- 35:32it only had 9500 miles on it. Wow.
- 35:35And so he unfortunately passed away and I was good friends with
- 35:39his night. Well, nice friends with his
- 35:42wife. And anyways, she never told me
- 35:46her grandson was in the car business.
- 35:48And so he had a relationship with like a dealer or something
- 35:52that swooped in and got all the cars and then did like a Manheim
- 35:57auction that I didn't have access to.
- 36:00But apparently even the, the, the offer she got from the
- 36:03dealer was way more than the car.
- 36:05And I think I would have thought 55 to 65.
- 36:08And they offered like, I don't know, like 85 or 95,000.
- 36:12And I thought that was crazy for a, a dealer offer.
- 36:16So I would have loved to have a shot at that because that would
- 36:18have been a wonderful car to enjoy a friend's car.
- 36:21That would have been cool, right?
- 36:23Yeah, so that's I have a 98 silver 4 door M3 that's was
- 36:29turned into my track car. So now it's a 4 door 2 seater
- 36:32but I still have it and I love it.
- 36:34Is it an $85,000 driving experience?
- 36:38I'm like, sorry, did you say 85? Yeah, I may need to rethink
- 36:42everything. Well, they overpaid for a bunch
- 36:45of stuff, which is good for. Her.
- 36:47I mean. Yeah, great to be on the
- 36:49receiving end of that. But yeah, no, mine is probably
- 36:51not because it has most of the interior stripped out and a half
- 36:54cage and yadda, yadda, yadda. It's different.
- 36:57It's a different proposition. You're right.
- 36:59Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:01So I I just want something German for some reason or or my
- 37:06buddy's neighbor has is the original owner of a 77 trans am
- 37:14bandit car 455 four speed for like 16,000 miles.
- 37:19Yeah. So I'm like, yeah, 85 Porsche,
- 37:23you know, Carrera or big Block 4 speed 70, I can go either way.
- 37:29Yeah. I mean, those are both great
- 37:30choices, right? Yeah, you know, if you love
- 37:33everything, you don't have to be picky.
- 37:35That's. That's true.
- 37:36That's and we've talked about this before.
- 37:37We are in this sort of post performance era, right where
- 37:41everything is fast right, So you can just go and enjoy the car
- 37:44right. You can enjoy everything else
- 37:46about the car right. We have a guy who drives one of
- 37:48those trans Ams around locally. He just looks like he's having
- 37:50the best time. I'm sure there's like a A6 pack
- 37:53of like natty light in the passenger seat and he's off to
- 37:55the out of the roller rink or something.
- 37:57I mean that's that's that's what it seems like right.
- 37:59Every time you see, he just looks like he's having the best
- 38:01time. And I don't know that I have a
- 38:02better time in that Porsche. Yeah, I want the Porsche, right?
- 38:05Because it's, you know, but but yeah, I think that that Trans Am
- 38:09is the recipe for a a good night.
- 38:12Well, it's funny as the Mustang behind me, it's been repainted
- 38:16and it is a real K code and all that, but it has paint chips on
- 38:19it and stuff. So when I bought it and I I kept
- 38:22I, it was in Amelia Island. So I wanted to drive it the next
- 38:26year. And so when I was at Amelia
- 38:28Island, it was everybody loved it.
- 38:30Like it has a rare exhaust on it.
- 38:32So it's loud, but I was flying down the gravel roads, the dirt
- 38:36roads and people like, is that guy driving up Saint fast?
- 38:40But you don't have to worry about it.
- 38:41I, I made a little sticker. I called it Patina is Freeing,
- 38:45meaning, you know, you have to worry about it.
- 38:47Yeah. Now the GTO is different.
- 38:49That's original paint. And I'm like, scared to death
- 38:52that something will happen to it.
- 38:54So I did sell that, but it went to a collector so.
- 38:57Went to a good home. Went to a great home, yeah.
- 39:00That's good. Well, should we talk about your
- 39:02book? Actually, it went to a home very
- 39:05close to you, Lindsay. I'll take that.
- 39:07Later, yes it did. Yeah, well, let's let's talk
- 39:10about that off, off. My I'll have to go check.
- 39:14In on it for you. Yeah.
- 39:17So you wrote the Enthusiast Guide to Collector Cars, and So
- 39:20what prompted you to embark on this journey of authorship and
- 39:25write this particular book? So I've realized a long time,
- 39:30well, no, I finally realized that I'm a content guy.
- 39:34Like I'm going to create content no matter what.
- 39:37You know, like you know this with a podcast, you don't, you
- 39:41don't watch to see who downloads.
- 39:43You don't care about the download numbers.
- 39:45You don't care usually there's a passion there, right?
- 39:49And so you're doing it because you want to share your passion.
- 39:52You like telling stories, you like whatever.
- 39:55And so I wrote a business book for kids like 15 years ago and I
- 40:01like to do cartoons and stuff. And so I did 206 illustrations
- 40:06and I enjoyed it. I really love doing it and as.
- 40:13I'm sharing. My nieces and nephews are
- 40:15getting older. They're getting into cars, but
- 40:17they're always about like the swoopy Ferrari or the Lambeau.
- 40:20And because they don't know any better, you know, it's the
- 40:24newest, fanciest, flashiest, loudest, fast, whatever.
- 40:28And I thought, you know what, there's really not one book that
- 40:32I could think of or that I could find that is an easy entry point
- 40:36to the entire collector car world.
- 40:39And that is easy to read, that is snippets, you know, so it's
- 40:45like fun facts. You know, why is this important?
- 40:49Why should a new enthusiast care?
- 40:50What's the timeline of innovation or however I put it?
- 40:55You know, what's, what are a few spotlight cars?
- 40:57You know what? And anyway, so that was the
- 41:00reason being, and also my wife Jenny, she's really getting in
- 41:03the cars, and she wanted me to start quizzing her on the
- 41:07different generations of Corvettes.
- 41:09Oh, I love it. Yeah.
- 41:11So I'm like, all right, well, what Corvette is that?
- 41:12And so she'll guess. And, you know, she's got them
- 41:15all down C1 to C8. Nice.
- 41:17And you're Don Jenny. Amazing.
- 41:19Yeah, and I also think about the poor spouses, male or female,
- 41:24that put up with the car people. Yeah.
- 41:26And it's like not not that you give them a book like, Hey,
- 41:30you'll know, you'll get my passion if you read this, you
- 41:33know, but it could be an entry point to where maybe, you know,
- 41:37that couple can actually enjoy things a little more because
- 41:40there might be a little bit new appreciation.
- 41:43Right. They can connect on that part as
- 41:45opposed to being the long-suffering.
- 41:47Yeah, yeah. And then also for like, you
- 41:49know, I'm a muscle pony car guy. Well, I ain't Ferrari guy now,
- 41:52but, you know, if you're a muscle car guy and you don't
- 41:57understand why Porsches are special, you know, maybe maybe
- 42:01this will give a little insight or why brass era or why
- 42:05classics, you know? Yeah.
- 42:07And so it's it's really meant for like everybody.
- 42:09I know you can't say that when you're trying to pitch a book,
- 42:12but. You can say that's.
- 42:13What this is I can? Say, right, you're old enough to
- 42:16remember like those pre iPhone halcyon days of like the
- 42:19bathroom book, right, like the Guinness Book of Worlds records
- 42:22that you know you keep next to the that's this book, right?
- 42:25You can go, you can read it from, you know, cover to cover
- 42:27or you can spend 10 minutes of quality time, you know, with the
- 42:31like you said. It was meant for a toilet.
- 42:32That's great. Not to put too fine a point on
- 42:36it, right? But it's, it's accessible, Yeah,
- 42:40I guess is what I'm getting. Can I call right And yeah.
- 42:43Ryan would like to contribute. That's his review for the.
- 42:46I know Jay Leno, but yeah. Great for the shitter.
- 42:52Right, that's your subhead for the next one.
- 42:56Oh please ask me please. So it's it's really funny you
- 42:59said that because I had two favorite books as a kid is I had
- 43:03the Guinness Book of World Record.
- 43:04Yeah. And I had there was like this
- 43:07Encyclopedia Brown mysteries, but they're all.
- 43:09Short. I was right with you, Greg.
- 43:10Yep. They were very.
- 43:11I always had the yeah, yeah. You like read like 5 pages and
- 43:15you had the solution 2 pages later, you know?
- 43:17Yeah. And that's what I want to see.
- 43:20My book dog eared and torn up and in a kids backpack.
- 43:24Which is why it's not a hard cover.
- 43:25I want it to be a soft cover. Yep.
- 43:28I vision now. My my issue is it turned out a
- 43:30little thicker than I thought and heavier than I thought.
- 43:34So maybe it sits on their night stand, maybe it's not travelling
- 43:37with them, but. Yeah, and so I, I don't know if
- 43:40you've seen this, but I had this thing called see a kid give a
- 43:43book. And so I've been giving out
- 43:46books as I can, thanks to Broad Arrow sponsoring and and
- 43:51Anonymous folks. So I have a a weekly newsletter
- 43:54and every once in a while put something in there.
- 43:56And I had someone who's at a very high level at a Concord
- 44:01that we all know about. He's like, hey, can I buy 2
- 44:04cases that you can give out? Like, yeah, you know, and I had
- 44:08someone else that just bought 2 cases.
- 44:10They're donating one to the Lemay and then the other case
- 44:16they'd say, hey, just, you know, let us know where you give them
- 44:19out, you know, and fantastic. So at Aldrain, I gave out 36
- 44:25books to every youth judge. And that was really cool because
- 44:29I got pictures with the parents and the kid holding up the book.
- 44:33And that's an initiative that broad arrows recouping at a much
- 44:38lower cost because I I'm not in it to make money, right.
- 44:41And so I'm hoping every Haggerty, the youth judge for
- 44:45the foreseeable future will get a a book with like their when
- 44:49they sign up. You know, that's cool.
- 44:51That's awesome. Yeah.
- 44:52And so that's that's the goal. Yeah, I love that that
- 44:55definitely because I get your newsletter and I think you said
- 44:58it's weekly and that really caught my attention when you
- 45:01mentioned that because I think you did that in Monterey as well
- 45:04at Car Week this year, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:07So self selfless plug. If you like my newsletter, go to
- 45:11collectcarpodcast.com and sign up.
- 45:15That's good. Yeah, check that box.
- 45:16We don't have to mention that at the end.
- 45:19Well, you know, it's funny because I mentioned I do.
- 45:21I have like 10 newsletters I want to put out there that I
- 45:24just think will be funny and fun and engaging like I've always.
- 45:28I did this one a couple weeks ago.
- 45:29I called it the car show stare. Because when you're at a car
- 45:33show, either you're showing a car and you're staring at
- 45:37everybody hoping they make eye contact, right?
- 45:40And now they have to talk to you about your car because you're
- 45:42dying to tell someone about your car, right?
- 45:45Or you're walking the show field and you don't want to make eye
- 45:48contact unless it's a car you really want to talk about for 15
- 45:51minutes. So anyways, I always thought
- 45:53that was funny, but I have one coming up.
- 45:54I'm trying to wait. Do you remember the Sarah
- 45:57McLaughlin? Pathetic, Pathetic.
- 46:00Sad. Animal Rescue.
- 46:02Yes, in the eyes of the Angel. Yeah, that way.
- 46:05Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, so I'm doing a newsletter
- 46:08of, you know, 50% of children don't know what a carburetor is,
- 46:13you know? That's great.
- 46:15For the price of an oil change, you can stop through a kid, you
- 46:19know, so that's going to come out in a couple weeks.
- 46:22And then I saw. Struthers still around?
- 46:24I don't. Know, Oh my God.
- 46:26These days. Oh, I got to do that and then.
- 46:29They're on part Yeah, those two. So that's going to be a really.
- 46:32Like, I have a great image of a kid looking confused at all the
- 46:36plastic under a hood. And then there's a kid looking
- 46:39all excited at the carburetors on AV12 Ferrari, you know?
- 46:45Yeah. And then I have another one I'm
- 46:47doing one that honors the car, the car enthusiast spouse
- 46:52because they put up with a lot. They sure do.
- 46:56Well, you, you said your wife is just getting into cars.
- 46:59My wife won't ride with me, you know, at least in a sports car.
- 47:03So what, what, what did that take?
- 47:05What changed? What was?
- 47:06You don't want to know what's going to cost you money.
- 47:10Now who doesn't pay anything? Back to her having her own
- 47:13boxer. Right.
- 47:15So I'm of the mindset of as long as it's reasonable, you know, if
- 47:21you want to get your spouse engaged, whatever they show
- 47:23interest in, get it right. And so and that, and that came
- 47:27down to even our daily drivers, like, yeah, my wife always liked
- 47:31the Chrysler 300. So I got a Chrysler 300.
- 47:33Yeah, she was the one that liked the Toyota FJ and I kind of poo
- 47:37poo tanishly. Yeah.
- 47:39So that was her car, you know, and then I then I got her a, a
- 47:44Macon S and then I inherited wisely the, the FJ And so, and I
- 47:52had a 999-6911. That was my first Porsche.
- 47:57And I wanted something she would drive, you know, and because she
- 48:02wanted to drive the Mustang, I did get her to drive it once.
- 48:04She drove the GTO once, but she was just too nervous about it.
- 48:07Didn't want to hurt him. You know, I'm like, you could
- 48:09buy every part on the Mustang out of MPD or NPR National Parts
- 48:13Depot MPD Anyway, so I wanted something she would drive.
- 48:17And so the 9/11, she would drive that around and really enjoyed
- 48:20it. And at one point when this
- 48:22picture behind me was taken, I didn't have any.
- 48:23I just had a pony car and a muscle car.
- 48:25And she's like, I really miss, we called it Ducky because I had
- 48:28a ducktail spoiler. I really missed the 996.
- 48:31And I'm like, well, we could resolve that.
- 48:34That is a fixable problem, my love.
- 48:37Yeah. And So what was funny is I was
- 48:39chasing that 997.2 to 2012. My buddy had one and we had kind
- 48:46of informally agreed on a price. And so when she kind of gave me,
- 48:50hey, you know, we could fit another cool car in the garage
- 48:53that she would enjoy and drive, I called him up.
- 48:55I'm like, hey, I'm ready to buy the 997.2.
- 48:58He's like, I'm not let it, let it go.
- 49:00And I'm like, oh man, that stinks.
- 49:02And she did not want a convertible.
- 49:04And I said, well, what else you got laying around there?
- 49:06Because I knew him And one of my old clients had bought a
- 49:10collection of low mileage Porsches recently and they had
- 49:14been selling them off. And he's like, well, we have a
- 49:182005 Turbo and it has like 1100 miles and yeah, we're asking
- 49:24$179,000. I'm like God, I won't do that.
- 49:29What else? Do you have what else do you
- 49:30have? We got that little O 5 Boxster S
- 49:33for like 30 grand like Oh well let me go look at that.
- 49:37And I sent her a picture. I said would this do?
- 49:40She's like absolutely nice, nice.
- 49:43And I didn't even drive it till I owned it cuz I'm like I know
- 49:46the owners. I know everything about the car.
- 49:49I'm gonna love it. And sure enough, we both love
- 49:51it. That's tough.
- 49:54So you buy your wife whatever she wants.
- 49:56That's right. It's that simple, yeah.
- 49:59You have. I'd love to see her in the
- 50:002012997.2, but as you know, you know, talk about what makes a
- 50:04car collectible and that is the collectible sweet spot because
- 50:08they hardly made any of those dot twos with the economic
- 50:10downturn, right? They went to the direct
- 50:11injection engine. So they're just that is the era.
- 50:14You want a 997.2, but so does everyone else, and that's the
- 50:17problem, right? Yeah, it went up probably 30
- 50:19grand in the time that has passed since I almost bought it,
- 50:24unfortunately. Just bought a 997.2 GT three
- 50:29with 40,000 miles. It was at a Porsche dealer for
- 50:32$80,000. You know what, they bought it.
- 50:35No I almost I ended up buying a new GT4 instead which is done OK
- 50:38too. But had I bought that GT3, I
- 50:40would have easily tripled or quadrupled my money.
- 50:42Well, I really wanted GT 4 was high on my list.
- 50:45Yeah, sure. Yeah.
- 50:47Well, you're in good company, Greg.
- 50:48Yeah. I heard the gearing was a little
- 50:51long, do you like driving it? You know, I, I love it and it's
- 50:54a car I'll keep forever if I can help it.
- 50:56When you are on it that that tall gearing goes away.
- 50:59It's only when you're around town that you sort of notice it
- 51:02and you think, Hey, I wish I was, you know, rowing gears a
- 51:04little bit more. But when you're on it, it just
- 51:06it, it, it, it makes sense. It right, It makes sense.
- 51:10It's just when you're when once you're in the power band, it all
- 51:12feels right and and there's just wonderful cars.
- 51:15I'm I'm a convert, having owned, you know, 997.1911.
- 51:19I've just owned Cayman, you know Cayman cars since just because I
- 51:22think they're they're just a better a better platform and I
- 51:25don't think I'll ever go back. But there's something about just
- 51:28the look, the size, you know of the 997 dot twos, you know how
- 51:31they look from the the the tail end, the GT3 especially they're
- 51:34just wonderful cars. But what color said that?
- 51:37It was a black one. I have a silver GT4 and Lindsay
- 51:40has a as a GT4 as well. Oh.
- 51:42You do. And Dan?
- 51:45It's white, actually. It's also straight pipe to Greg,
- 51:48so Lindsay and her husband were so kind.
- 51:51They bought it in Kansas City. They drove home to Seattle and
- 51:54stopped to see me in Denver on the way and I heard them coming
- 51:58way before I saw them coming. But it's a.
- 52:00We didn't have to give that one up.
- 52:02It's a. Beautiful song.
- 52:03So yeah. Yeah.
- 52:04Now, the GT 4 is still kind of on my list, but they've gone up
- 52:08well. You can't say enough and you
- 52:10can't go wrong with either the, the, you know, the, the 16 or
- 52:13the, the 718. They're just wonderful cars.
- 52:16It really just comes down to you know what, what shape does it
- 52:19for you. But yeah, if you're ever in
- 52:21Denver, you can drive mine and then you'll be sold.
- 52:22So. I'm going.
- 52:24To come to Seattle, well I mean if it tells you anything, we
- 52:30picked ours up and did a 2000 mile road trip and like can't
- 52:34say a bad thing about it. Yeah.
- 52:36Fuck is funny because when I had the yeah, when I had another
- 52:41Mustang and the GTO, my wife was like, you could sell any car,
- 52:46whatever you want to do, do it. Just don't sell my box your ass.
- 52:50And I said, well, what if I upgrade it?
- 52:52And she's like, OK, we're good. Honestly, that Boxster is is,
- 52:59you know, probably 95% of the fun.
- 53:00Honestly, it's just those are such good cars.
- 53:02But any case. I know.
- 53:04It's so good. They're all so good.
- 53:05Well, so you did end up parting with the GTO?
- 53:09Yes. How did you arrive at that
- 53:11decision? Because I remember that was a
- 53:13rather significant moment. So couple couple things.
- 53:20First off, I don't know that I'm a preservation car owner for the
- 53:24long term because I like to drive them.
- 53:26Yeah. And the other thing was, as I
- 53:30did so much with with it, I got it on Jay Leno's garage with the
- 53:34daughters of the original owner. I took it to the muscle car in
- 53:38Corvette Nationals. You know, I won the preservation
- 53:41award at our local Concord event.
- 53:44And I'm not a guy that shows cars at car shows.
- 53:47Like I'm like, I can't, you know, I'll judge cars, I'll go
- 53:51to car shows, but I can't just sit in a lawn chair for six or
- 53:55seven hours. I just, I'm not built that way.
- 53:57So it just came down to, all right, I think I've had I've,
- 54:02I've shared the story and that was the promise I made the
- 54:04daughters. I said I'll share this.
- 54:06And that was before I got on Jay Leno's garage, which I'm like,
- 54:09all right, I can't do anything better than that.
- 54:11And they were super thrilled. So I kind of checked the box and
- 54:14now I want to find the next car to share the story.
- 54:18Yeah, and there's a few I'm chasing like I can't.
- 54:21She won't talk to me anymore because I think she thinks I'm a
- 54:23stalker. But there's an unrestored 65K
- 54:30code fastback GT Twilight Turquoise with like original
- 54:36owner with like 6500 miles on it.
- 54:39And. I'm like, that would be another
- 54:41car to tell the story. So.
- 54:43That's what I'm trying to, you know, like that the Trans Am I
- 54:47mentioned earlier. That would be a fun one.
- 54:50Yeah. You know, I'm just trying to
- 54:52either either I want a new story to tell that's really
- 54:55interesting or a new experience to have, which is why I'm like
- 54:59looking at the German cars right now, so.
- 55:02Try something new. Yeah, right.
- 55:04Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I probably will regret the
- 55:07blue car behind me. Like I know who owns it, it's
- 55:10local, it's still there. Cuz that car, it wasn't perfect,
- 55:15you know, and it was a pain to drive slowly because it had no
- 55:18power steering, right? But I will probably regret that
- 55:22one. Did you regret every car you get
- 55:24rid of though? Or is there one that you're
- 55:25like, yeah, good riddance? Not good riddance, but I'm like
- 55:29I'm glad I don't have that one anymore.
- 55:32Like I just sold the K code convertible poppy red and I kind
- 55:37of found it as a fluke. I should have never bought it
- 55:40like it. It looked great, it ran great,
- 55:43but there are so many things wrong with it, like you know,
- 55:46where the paint looked great, but you know, it wasn't supposed
- 55:50to have like the the GT package, which if you know anything,
- 55:54there's additional drill holes to put the Mustang script and to
- 55:59do different things like to fix it.
- 56:01You're talking about a paint job, you know, and there's just
- 56:04a lot of little things that the interior had some sort of like
- 56:09just enough to drive me freaking nuts, but not enough for me to
- 56:12actually go fix. Them.
- 56:13Yep, just like that. Fine line of and then anyway, so
- 56:18I that was a car. It was just stunning to look at,
- 56:22fun to drive, but I'm like, all right, I want to.
- 56:26And this is when I thought my, I could have a shot at the BMW and
- 56:29some other cars. So I thought, let me free up the
- 56:32bank account and then there's those opportunities.
- 56:35Did not happen. Yeah.
- 56:37So now you're going to freed yourself up for what is supposed
- 56:39to what is supposed to come into your life.
- 56:41Yeah, right. I like I told my wife, I'm
- 56:43waiting for the car to come to me.
- 56:45Yeah. And it will.
- 56:47And it will the 80. 5 Porsche's kind of coming to me because
- 56:51it's not advertised for sale it's just somebody that I said
- 56:54hey let me know if you're interested I'm like oh that
- 56:56that's that's on the list so we'll.
- 56:58Say. Turns out I am interested, yeah.
- 57:00Right, right. Greg, I've got to ask and I've
- 57:03got to steer this back to your podcast for a second because it
- 57:05just hit me that is this correct?
- 57:07You've done over 500 episodes. That is wrong.
- 57:10No. It's wrong.
- 57:12OK, 442 goes up tomorrow. So for being specific news.
- 57:23You know, and maybe that doesn't sound like a lot to some of the
- 57:25fine folks listening, but as someone who's done this now for
- 57:26a hot minute, that's a fucking miracle.
- 57:29That is a lot episode and maybe your secret is you do with them
- 57:32by yourself, right? But what?
- 57:34Make everything up. Who's who've been your favorite
- 57:38guests? I mean because you are a guest
- 57:40driven show. Yeah.
- 57:41So yeah, Johnny Lieberman was great.
- 57:44I really like Johnny a lot. He's a good guest.
- 57:46Yeah, yeah, yeah. To Donald Osborne, who I'm sure
- 57:50was. Wonderful.
- 57:51Yeah, Donald was great. Actually interviewed him on the
- 57:53Porsche, the PCA cruise. So if you watch the video, we're
- 57:57actually sitting on lawn chairs on a cruise ship.
- 58:00Perfect. Never done that before.
- 58:03A podcast first. I've had Bruce Meyer on like 3
- 58:06or 4 times, he's always fantastic.
- 58:09Yeah, he's wonderful. There's so many that are so good
- 58:11and you know, it's interesting the one that really it seems to
- 58:16have legs and I understand why is I had three of the car
- 58:19specialists from Broad Arrow on to kind of talk about the
- 58:22market. Yeah.
- 58:24Yeah. And that I think people were
- 58:27just fascinated to have three car specialists kind of talking
- 58:30about the market, you know. And so I'm going to try to
- 58:33repeat that and mix it up. Sometimes it's hard to get car
- 58:37specialists on at times. Like they're a lot of them are
- 58:39pretty private, believe it or not, or they they want to keep
- 58:42to themselves, you know? Which is far busy, yeah.
- 58:45Right, yeah. And the other one I'm, I'm going
- 58:48to have three of the valuation experts on Dave Kinney and Brian
- 58:53Raybould and Greg Ingle Eibold. Anyways, those three on SO
- 59:00Haggerty evaluation roundtable, hopefully soon.
- 59:02OK, cool. Yeah, that would be interesting.
- 59:04Well, Dave is so interesting when you think about it could be
- 59:08a potentially dry subject and he has a way of making it super
- 59:11engaging and interesting and you always learn something.
- 59:14I feel like and he he's so generous with his knowledge that
- 59:18it's I'm I look forward to listening.
- 59:21Yeah, like, Ken Gross is always great.
- 59:24Wayne Creaney is always great. Bill Warner's always great.
- 59:27You know, Bill's incredibly funny and oh, you'll like this.
- 59:32I don't know when the episode's going to come out, but for the
- 59:34Porsche book, Bill Bill contributed a quote to the first
- 59:37book, Small World. I grew up in Jacksonville.
- 59:40He's in Jacksonville. The the, the street, his hangers
- 59:45on where his cars are. Half mile one way is my
- 59:49kindergarten, half mile the other way is where we took our
- 59:53animals to the vet. And I went to high school with
- 59:56his two daughters. And I didn't know him, but I
- 1:00:00knew who they were because they were identical twin dog, you
- 1:00:01know, identical twins. And I took their best friend to
- 1:00:05prom my junior year. And so Bill and I, we've always
- 1:00:10hit it off. He's always been great.
- 1:00:11And I asked him, I'm like, would you mind contributing one of
- 1:00:14your pictures you took in the 60s?
- 1:00:17Of a famous Porsche picture and let me use it in the book he's
- 1:00:21like, you could have whatever you want I'm like oh all right
- 1:00:24well can would you contribute 20 pictures Did you open the door
- 1:00:30right. And so I, I said, you know what,
- 1:00:33let me just come down to Jacksonville and we'll, we'll go
- 1:00:35through some pictures. I wasn't sure.
- 1:00:36Are we gonna look at folders or what?
- 1:00:39And so I was, I'm not a smart man, but I was smart enough to
- 1:00:42realize I should probably get a videographer to do to join us,
- 1:00:46you know, And so I'm so glad I did because, you know, some of
- 1:00:52the pictures were on the wall. And I just interviewed Hurley
- 1:00:54Haywood, who was a great interview.
- 1:00:56Oh, wow. And Hurley, I asked him what's
- 1:00:58the most significant, you know, like event.
- 1:01:00And it was when the bird hit his hit his windshield.
- 1:01:03And there's a famous picture of the 59 Brumos Porsche with the
- 1:01:07dead bird on the ground in black and white photograph.
- 1:01:10And you know, there you can see where he hit the windshield.
- 1:01:13Well, that picture was taken by Bill Warner.
- 1:01:15Oh, no kidding. And I'm like what I just had
- 1:01:18early on, like 3 weeks ago talking about the story and I'm
- 1:01:20looking at the picture that you took of that incident.
- 1:01:23With the person who took it, that's incredible.
- 1:01:25Yeah. And so we're looking at his big
- 1:01:27wall in the garage. I'm like, can we just have him
- 1:01:30videotape us walking down the wall, You know, and it was
- 1:01:35amazing. Like we talked about, yeah, the
- 1:01:36Porsche pictures, but then what about this trophy?
- 1:01:39Or what about this car part? Or what about and all of them
- 1:01:44was related to a famous person or race or whatever.
- 1:01:49And there was like this, I think it was AI think it was a Lotus.
- 1:01:51There was this car part and underneath it was a black and
- 1:01:54white photograph. And it was a photograph of the
- 1:01:59car wrecking during the race and this guy hauling ass trying not
- 1:02:04to get hit by the car. And Bill Warner, he's like,
- 1:02:08well, I'm the guy that's hauling ass.
- 1:02:10I was the guy that almost got hit by that car.
- 1:02:12Someone else took the picture and he's like, as a
- 1:02:15photographer, you learn to identify when a race car driver
- 1:02:21is about to lose it, you know, because you can see the way
- 1:02:23they're acting and stuff like that.
- 1:02:25And he's like, so that car part is from that.
- 1:02:29I guess the driver, I forgot who the driver was, but famous
- 1:02:31driver, I think he broke his ankles or something.
- 1:02:34Anyways, he ended up there was like an event later in the
- 1:02:38future and one of them had the car part, so he autographed it
- 1:02:42and so he got the picture and they're all there and it's just
- 1:02:44like this amazing story. It's cool.
- 1:02:46And then there's another one with Paul Newman in a Daytona
- 1:02:51race car, and it's a, it's kind of a famous shot as he's coming
- 1:02:54around the curve, you know, you can see the car pushing it hard
- 1:02:57and you can see Paul's eyes. It's a black and white
- 1:02:59photograph again, but you could see and Bill said like, right,
- 1:03:04so I wanted this shot. I wanted it on that curve and I
- 1:03:07wanted it so I could see Paul's face.
- 1:03:10But that only happens when the sun is over here.
- 1:03:12At this time, he said I had 18 minutes to get the picture,
- 1:03:18which meant it was 3 laps. So I had three shot, three tries
- 1:03:23to get this shot and he got the shot, you know, and so that
- 1:03:26episode will come out after the book is out because I want to,
- 1:03:30you know, have that episode to promote the book.
- 1:03:32You know, it kind of stuff. So probably December maybe, but
- 1:03:36you know, I haven't gone through the video yet.
- 1:03:37So it's like 30 minutes and talking about that.
- 1:03:40And then he talks about his, I think it's a 1971911S that he
- 1:03:44bought new and it was in the Cannonball Run and it's got like
- 1:03:51Brumo's brace wheels on it. And it's got a real ducktail
- 1:03:55spoiler. And it's, it was on the cover of
- 1:04:01Motor Trend or one of those cars that talks about the back in
- 1:04:041975. Like of all the 9 elevens in the
- 1:04:07world, that's the one I want, you know?
- 1:04:08Yeah, yeah, yeah, he's going to. So he'll be in the book with all
- 1:04:13that stuff. That's cool, that's cool.
- 1:04:15I mean, and, and it all comes back to your podcast.
- 1:04:17I mean, it's open to all these doors.
- 1:04:18You've had to have these, you've had these amazing conversations,
- 1:04:21you know, like just these amazing experiences.
- 1:04:24It's, it's pretty cool, isn't it?
- 1:04:26Yeah, I think if someone asks, should I start a podcast, I'm
- 1:04:29like, yes, you should, but people don't understand the
- 1:04:33grind. Oh my God.
- 1:04:37They what? So I was walking at the Hilton
- 1:04:42Head, Hilton Head Island Concord last year and this kid
- 1:04:47recognized me from YouTube and he, he came up with his dad and
- 1:04:52he's like, and his dad said, yeah, he just started his own or
- 1:04:55he wants to start his own podcast.
- 1:04:57And I said he absolutely should do it on cars.
- 1:04:59And, and the kids like, but I don't know anything about cars.
- 1:05:03I said, even better, you know, you don't need to know anything
- 1:05:06about cars. You know, approach.
- 1:05:08Like if I interview somebody, I typically don't ask questions
- 1:05:11ahead of time because I want to ask questions as a newbie.
- 1:05:15I want to ask the questions the average person who maybe doesn't
- 1:05:17know anything would ask. And usually it's me.
- 1:05:19I don't know, you know, And if I have a question about something,
- 1:05:23I'm like, well, someone else probably has that same question.
- 1:05:25So let's do an episode about it. And so I told him, I said, you
- 1:05:29don't need to know anything. And this could be any passion.
- 1:05:33You could be talking about sewing, you could be whatever I
- 1:05:36said interview the experts and you'll learn from them and
- 1:05:40you'll build your network as you do that.
- 1:05:43And I said, it's even better that you're so young.
- 1:05:47Like I might not be able to get someone on my podcast as a as a
- 1:05:51new 50 something like, why would I be on this guy's podcast?
- 1:05:55But if there's a 15 year old who's genuinely interested in
- 1:05:59the collection car hobby, people are going to line up.
- 1:06:03Yeah, to be. If he's at all, you know,
- 1:06:06sentient, yeah, if he is cognizant and can ask some
- 1:06:10decent questions, you know, with his dad's help, whatever mom's
- 1:06:13help, yeah. Who want it want to be on that
- 1:06:16we're. Gonna connect with that.
- 1:06:17Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I think that's it because no
- 1:06:20one wants to hear a podcast host try to, I don't know, outdo the
- 1:06:24guest, right with facts and figures.
- 1:06:26And and so sometimes it takes, you know, someone, you know,
- 1:06:29from a more naive perspective, I think to to really have those
- 1:06:32great conversations. I think you're right, So.
- 1:06:34I really that. Was my excuse when we started
- 1:06:36running. Yeah, I really want to do a
- 1:06:39podcast on all the coach builders from the 30s, but I
- 1:06:42don't want to do the research right now.
- 1:06:45You must know Maurice Merrick. As much.
- 1:06:50That's that's you must know Maurice Merrick, who does the
- 1:06:53Horsepower Heritage podcast. No, I don't.
- 1:06:56No. Oh, we've got to make that
- 1:06:57introduction. He's wonderful.
- 1:06:58You get a Yeah, he's great. He's out in Ventura County,
- 1:07:02California. And I call him the professor
- 1:07:04because that's, that's his realm.
- 1:07:06You'll have to meet. Leave it at that.
- 1:07:08Yeah. And.
- 1:07:08You guys would have a lot of fun.
- 1:07:09Show together. Yeah, I want to, I want to, I
- 1:07:11want to interview Randy Eamon. Eamon, the Zisenberg expert, you
- 1:07:15know, Yeah, I'd love to interview him.
- 1:07:18Yeah. Cool.
- 1:07:19Well, ho, it's going to give me a quote for the book.
- 1:07:21I'd love to have him on. Very cool.
- 1:07:22So. There's a whole cool, very cool.
- 1:07:26Well, you, you've got a wonderful podcast, you've got
- 1:07:28this wonderful book, you've got another book coming out here
- 1:07:31soon on Porsche that I know will be wonderful as well.
- 1:07:33But in the meantime, definitely do check out Greg's book because
- 1:07:37it is great. Put it right in your bathroom,
- 1:07:38right next to the next to the shit.
- 1:07:42And wherever else you like to read books a little bit at a
- 1:07:45time. That's the place of honor and.
- 1:07:48Absolutely, Absolutely. I mean, they don't call it a
- 1:07:50throne for nothing. That's, that's right.
- 1:07:53That's right. It's been a real pleasure, Greg.
- 1:07:55I appreciate you coming on and just remind us where we find
- 1:07:59your book. You can find it pretty much
- 1:08:02everywhere. I mean Amazon, Barnes and Noble
- 1:08:03online, Walmart online. The best place though is to
- 1:08:06collect your carpodcast.com because.
- 1:08:09There you go. It's cheaper and I'll
- 1:08:12personalize it for you, and I'll ship it out with an extra touch
- 1:08:17of love. Nice.
- 1:08:18Awesome. Well, we always like that,
- 1:08:20right? I know.
- 1:08:22It really is a wonderful book. Highly recommended.
- 1:08:24From the heart, so. Yeah, and it's great to be on
- 1:08:26the podcast because Lindsay, I've seen you around forever.
- 1:08:28Ryan, I know I feel like I've seen you as well around forever.
- 1:08:31So it's good to finally connect. I know.
- 1:08:33It's good to. Finally, like get some time.
- 1:08:35It's always, you know, a lot of the time it's at events and you
- 1:08:38can do like 1/2 a sentence, like, OK, let's catch up.
- 1:08:41And then, you know, so it's nice to have some time to, like,
- 1:08:44actually hang out. You know, that's a really good
- 1:08:47point because half the time I'll see people and we're all working
- 1:08:49so hard. Yeah, we're like, hey, good to
- 1:08:52see you. See you.
- 1:08:53Later, let's catch up. Yeah, I'll find you.
- 1:08:56Yeah, because it does. I think it changes it when you
- 1:09:00are working an event like and this touches on what you were
- 1:09:02saying before. It changes your perspective even
- 1:09:04of a cars and coffee, your objectives or your the things
- 1:09:08you need to accomplish change. And so when you're at the
- 1:09:11events, you're like, yes, yes, I'm so happy to see you.
- 1:09:14I also have to go do these six things so we'll catch up and
- 1:09:17then you don't end up catching up.
- 1:09:19So it was wonderful to get this concentrated time with you and
- 1:09:22we appreciate you joining us and we want to say thank you to our
- 1:09:26audience for being here. We appreciate you spending time
- 1:09:28with us each week telling your enthusiast friends about the
- 1:09:31show. And of course, if you like what
- 1:09:33we're doing, please consider leaving a five star review as it
- 1:09:35really does help others find out about the show.
- 1:09:38Remember to always be driving where that car show and we'll
- 1:09:41see you next week.
