- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, this is Darius from Spike here with Heavy mag
- 0:03Speaker 1: coming to Australia soon.
- 0:04Speaker 2: What's up dude, man, Jasey Darius, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Brother.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hell yeah, good to be here, so.
- 0:12Speaker 2: As you cyber Spike hit Australia for a headline chor
- 0:15Speaker 2: in April, kicking off in Brisbo on the twenty fourth
- 0:18Speaker 2: before going through Newcastle, Sydney, Woollongong, Melbourne and Adelaide. I
- 0:22Speaker 2: finished up in Perth on the second of May. Like
- 0:24Speaker 2: it's not that far away now, bro, Like you get
- 0:26Speaker 2: packed and ready to go.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's coming up. We got the set list off finalized,
- 0:31Speaker 1: so we're going to have rehearsals probably start next month,
- 0:35Speaker 1: probably for a couple of weeks before we head out
- 0:38Speaker 1: for at least a week headliner. It's always a little
- 0:41Speaker 1: bit like that, so we want to have ample time.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So I'm assuming we'll have at least two weeks for that.
- 0:47Speaker 1: But yeah, man, we're all excited. It's been a minute
- 0:50Speaker 1: since we've been to Australia. We love going there. It's
- 0:53Speaker 1: our third time there and it's our first time headlining,
- 0:55Speaker 1: so we're excited to just see what it's about there
- 0:58Speaker 1: and come with burials story. Shit, we heard Dissect is
- 1:02Speaker 1: really sick. Everyone that we talked to from Australia has
- 1:05Speaker 1: been like, that's the best band. So yeah, yeah, So
- 1:09Speaker 1: I'm excited to see them, see what they're all about
- 1:11Speaker 1: and stuff, seeing some new places. I've never been to Wollongong,
- 1:15Speaker 1: so yeah, I've heard some other people say that too.
- 1:22Speaker 1: But I'm telling you, like, we've done so many tours
- 1:25Speaker 1: over the years, and sometimes it's the places that you
- 1:28Speaker 1: don't really like think of that have like some of
- 1:30Speaker 1: the craziest shows, you know. So we'll see, we'll see
- 1:33Speaker 1: what comes our way, man, But we're all excited.
- 1:36Speaker 2: No, I said, you say this is going to be
- 1:38Speaker 2: your first headline Tarvis Draya, I think last time you
- 1:41Speaker 2: hear was we'd buy out his Murder in twenty twenty two.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So you're obviously pretty well restated to be coming back
- 1:45Speaker 2: to doing your eye running shows.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we did. We did the artist Murder and then
- 1:51Speaker 1: we came back and did make them suffer as well,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and that that was a great time. We love those
- 1:57Speaker 1: guys and obviously we tour with them before, so we've
- 2:02Speaker 1: been there twice. Now we kind of kind of got
- 2:04Speaker 1: to feel it out. But you know, those are larger
- 2:07Speaker 1: scale tours, so this is kind of our first time really,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know, seeing seeing what we do in Australia. But
- 2:14Speaker 1: I think I think we did some proper work over there,
- 2:17Speaker 1: at least prior. So either way, it's gonna be good.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Do We're excited, you know, I think we messed with
- 2:24Speaker 1: all kinds of crowds, but we're really excited to bring
- 2:27Speaker 1: Burials over. They've been our friends for a long time
- 2:29Speaker 1: and their new record coming out is fucking ridiculous. So
- 2:33Speaker 1: a bunch of sick bands.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Man, oh yeah, and you say you had the videos
- 2:39Speaker 3: support before, so what did you make it the Australian
- 2:41Speaker 3: crawbs probably like could they surprise you to or crowds
- 2:43Speaker 3: pretty much the same wherever you go.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I feel like make them Suffer. I feel like, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: people definitely didn't know us as much, or we had
- 2:57Speaker 1: to break them in a little bit more like I
- 2:59Speaker 1: think we were well received, but people didn't go as
- 3:02Speaker 1: crazy for us obviously, Like I think Make Them Suffer
- 3:05Speaker 1: and Urry Tomorrow really paired very well and I love
- 3:09Speaker 1: touring with those bands and it was great, But I
- 3:12Speaker 1: think we were definitely playing to new fans on that tour.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You know, we're on the Thyr tour. I think a
- 3:17Speaker 1: lot of fans that have been waiting to see us
- 3:19Speaker 1: for a long time. We're gonna go to that show
- 3:22Speaker 1: anyway regardless. And then there was also, of course, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: it was the hay Tenure tour, so I feel like
- 3:28Speaker 1: a lot of old heads, probably from Australia were there
- 3:31Speaker 1: and all that, and we really got exposed to such
- 3:33Speaker 1: a large audience. You know, I don't really know what
- 3:39Speaker 1: to expect for this one. We did these two small
- 3:43Speaker 1: headlining shows there, like we didn't do a tour, but
- 3:45Speaker 1: while we were there, we played like an off show,
- 3:48Speaker 1: two off shows, and they were really fun and people
- 3:51Speaker 1: were thrown down, people were about it. And I'm kind
- 3:53Speaker 1: of expecting more of a vibe like that because we're
- 3:56Speaker 1: playing the smaller venues and it's more intimate and I
- 4:00Speaker 1: like that. Shit, you know, it's just very high energy.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Fuck the barricades and shit. I mean, I don't I
- 4:05Speaker 1: don't know what it's gonna look like, but I'm hoping
- 4:07Speaker 1: it's like that. But yeah, I don't know, man, those
- 4:11Speaker 1: two shows were really rowdy because I think, you know, again,
- 4:14Speaker 1: if we're headlining I think the energy we bring people
- 4:17Speaker 1: people come for that, right, So I'm hoping people know
- 4:21Speaker 1: what to expect. Maybe I don't know.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'm excited, I'm excited, but I'm sort.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Of typical spot live shot then, mate, And what we
- 4:31Speaker 2: can expect and how are they going to be different
- 4:33Speaker 2: to these sport ones you do?
- 4:35Speaker 1: You know? Man, we are playing probably around an hour
- 4:41Speaker 1: ish and we I've always done this, but we don't
- 4:45Speaker 1: really breathe in our sets, like we don't like to
- 4:48Speaker 1: talk and leave these long interlews where you know, I
- 4:51Speaker 1: just kind of like stand and wobble around and talk
- 4:54Speaker 1: about bullshit and nobody fucking cares about and shit like that.
- 4:56Speaker 1: We just like to play the song. So it's just
- 4:58Speaker 1: like go go, go, go go. So anticipate a lot
- 5:03Speaker 1: of songs, a lot of new ones, a lot of
- 5:05Speaker 1: old ones, you know, if you get to hear a
- 5:07Speaker 1: good amount of everything, and that's you know, the beauty
- 5:11Speaker 1: of just fucking pumping them all in there, you know
- 5:13Speaker 1: what I'm saying. But we we like to start off
- 5:15Speaker 1: hard and go hard the whole time. So uh yeah,
- 5:20Speaker 1: I like to consider it a bit of an adrenaline rush,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know, it is for me definitely, and uh yeah,
- 5:26Speaker 1: I like to freak some people out. Dude.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Oh not as you mentioned these guys. If you chose
- 5:32Speaker 2: you're bringing Varials with you from Pennsylvania. So tell us
- 5:35Speaker 2: a bit more about them and why you chose them
- 5:37Speaker 2: as storing finders.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, we we have a history of Burials. When we
- 5:41Speaker 1: first started as a band, we were kind of coming
- 5:44Speaker 1: up around the same time. We have played like a
- 5:46Speaker 1: few off shows here and there, and we were first
- 5:48Speaker 1: starting off together. We ended up touring together in twenty twenty.
- 5:52Speaker 1: They did our our US headliner when The Root of
- 5:55Speaker 1: Valueble came out, and uh it was one of the
- 5:58Speaker 1: best tours we've ever done. It was just like we
- 6:00Speaker 1: just gone along so well together and everyone just the
- 6:03Speaker 1: shows were fucking ripping, and uh yeah, it was just
- 6:07Speaker 1: like a good time. So when we when we came
- 6:10Speaker 1: to Australia, I know, they had a new record coming
- 6:12Speaker 1: out and shit like that, they got a new singer
- 6:14Speaker 1: who's also a good friend of ours. We're like, it's
- 6:16Speaker 1: time to rip it with the boys in Australia, you know,
- 6:19Speaker 1: Like it was just like kind of a I don't know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: just felt like the right thing to do. And I
- 6:24Speaker 1: feel like Australia has like a good fan base for that,
- 6:31Speaker 1: like really heavy metal core sound like a lot of
- 6:34Speaker 1: bands come out from Australia with that adjacent you know,
- 6:39Speaker 1: music to to Variols and stuff like that. And Yeah,
- 6:43Speaker 1: that being said, their new record is just fucking heavy.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You know. It just feels pissed off Burials again and
- 6:50Speaker 1: and it's yeah, I just want to tour with them.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Don't just say someone's coming to see you guys and
- 6:56Speaker 2: they want to check out very Yeah, since you're bringing
- 6:58Speaker 2: them out Bright give his cheo songs, is that people
- 7:00Speaker 2: should listening to get you an album?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Oh uh, I'll Find the Dark is one of their
- 7:08Speaker 1: new songs that just came out. You could find that
- 7:13Speaker 1: literally anywhere. And then Empire of Dirt is one of
- 7:17Speaker 1: their older ones that probably is like the pile up
- 7:19Speaker 1: song people will go fucking crazy for. But I'll Find
- 7:23Speaker 1: the Dark, dude, it's it's off the new album. The
- 7:25Speaker 1: mix is insane, the boys sound crazy as shit, the
- 7:29Speaker 1: music video is really cool, and yeah, they sounds scary
- 7:33Speaker 1: as hell.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yeah, speaking of new albums, brother, you know it's going
- 7:37Speaker 2: to be choring on the back of last year's album
- 7:39Speaker 2: New World Killers. So it's been out for a couple
- 7:41Speaker 2: of months now, brother, So I didn't get the reception
- 7:43Speaker 2: you hypens for.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, besides, like the whole music video thing, Like,
- 7:49Speaker 1: if I were to change anything now, i'd probably like
- 7:53Speaker 1: not do lights Out the way we did lights Out,
- 7:56Speaker 1: you know, if I'm being honest. But uh, you know,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm proud of the video. It's not that I don't
- 8:01Speaker 1: regret it. But if I had the choice, I had two.
- 8:06Speaker 1: I had three video treatments that I wrote, one for
- 8:09Speaker 1: lights Out, one's one for New Real Killer, which we
- 8:13Speaker 1: got to do, which was awesome and that video came
- 8:15Speaker 1: out perfect. And then I had one for Shallow and
- 8:20Speaker 1: it was just like coming down to the budget and
- 8:22Speaker 1: what we wanted to do, and we ended up doing
- 8:25Speaker 1: lights Out, which again I love, But I would have
- 8:28Speaker 1: also loved to see Shallow come like the idea come
- 8:32Speaker 1: together and see how that would have went about. You
- 8:36Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, because that shit was just such
- 8:38Speaker 1: a fucking ranch you know, debut and the record and shit.
- 8:42Speaker 1: But besides that, dude, Like, I mean, the song still
- 8:44Speaker 1: streams well. We got to play it live for the
- 8:46Speaker 1: first time on the Fit for a King tour we did,
- 8:50Speaker 1: and lights Out was the fucking most popin song we
- 8:52Speaker 1: were playing next to New World Killer and it was
- 8:55Speaker 1: it was just crazy, man. The reception is awesome, and
- 8:57Speaker 1: like meeting all the fans on that tour. It was
- 9:00Speaker 1: our first time out in a year and coming out
- 9:02Speaker 1: in new music. People asking like because we played a
- 9:05Speaker 1: few songs off the new album, people are asking like
- 9:08Speaker 1: when you come back and you can play this new one,
- 9:10Speaker 1: or you're gonna play this new one and this new one,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and it's it feels good that people want to hear
- 9:15Speaker 1: the new stuff, you know. And every time I don't
- 9:19Speaker 1: know why I feel like I need to say this,
- 9:21Speaker 1: but every time I talk about being excited to play
- 9:23Speaker 1: the new stuff, we'll always be playing old shit too.
- 9:25Speaker 1: You never have to worry about coming to a Spike
- 9:27Speaker 1: show and be like, dude, we play the new songs,
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know, like we we again, we don't breathe in
- 9:32Speaker 1: our sets. If we have a thirty minute set, we'll
- 9:34Speaker 1: find a way to play nine fucking ten songs, you
- 9:37Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. If we have an hour, we'll
- 9:39Speaker 1: play fucking eighteen songs. Yeah, like we'll fucking we'll play
- 9:43Speaker 1: a lot of music. Okay, yeah, so I don't know.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I'm excited though, uh again, I do the new tracks though,
- 9:52Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, we got to do new
- 9:54Speaker 1: Role Killer, Lights Out, Shallow, and Shedding Skin on the
- 9:59Speaker 1: last tour. We're gonna date view a couple of other
- 10:00Speaker 1: new ones on this next tour that I'm really excited
- 10:03Speaker 1: to just see the crowd react to and have that
- 10:05Speaker 1: energy and connection with, you know, and just experience those live. Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 1: you know, obviously I'm gonna give away one, but I'm
- 10:15Speaker 1: excited to play gabbl Dude, Like Gavel is just such
- 10:18Speaker 1: a fucking intense song and I feel like, I mean,
- 10:21Speaker 1: obviously we're gonna play it. And I think that song
- 10:24Speaker 1: is on a ridiculous live.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Spider band who have never been afraid to try different
- 10:29Speaker 2: takes on established onres. You blend a lot of different
- 10:31Speaker 2: stuff together. So is that somebody actually discussed as part
- 10:34Speaker 2: of your musical vision when you first started the band?
- 10:39Speaker 1: Not really when we first started, No, I think well,
- 10:43Speaker 1: when the band first started, it was it was me
- 10:46Speaker 1: and my friend Cody, and we were like two other Like,
- 10:49Speaker 1: you know, we're just in a bunch of local bands
- 10:51Speaker 1: at the project, and he was like an upcoming new
- 10:53Speaker 1: producer and I just hit him up today one day
- 10:58Speaker 1: and I was like, you know, I was into really
- 11:00Speaker 1: heavy music, but the bands I was in at the
- 11:02Speaker 1: time were not really in line with the music I
- 11:06Speaker 1: loved and wanted to be playing. Sure like metal adjacent,
- 11:09Speaker 1: but not really my shit, you know. And I was
- 11:13Speaker 1: just like a pissed off teenager, a bunch of issues
- 11:16Speaker 1: and shit, and I needed to just be the voice
- 11:21Speaker 1: I wanted to hear when I was putting in my
- 11:23Speaker 1: headphones listening to metal music, and at the time, like
- 11:26Speaker 1: there was just thing. It was just it was just
- 11:29Speaker 1: not enough where I was at. I needed to just
- 11:32Speaker 1: like explode. And so I hit him up and I
- 11:36Speaker 1: was like, hey, like I just need to start like
- 11:38Speaker 1: the angriest, heaviest project with you, Like just no limits,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Like I don't care, like if we think something is
- 11:47Speaker 1: stupid or if it's too much, just like do it,
- 11:49Speaker 1: you know, just like push. And so we came out
- 11:53Speaker 1: with Misery and Misery. It was just supposed to be
- 11:55Speaker 1: this aggressive, violent song, you know, and I think that
- 12:01Speaker 1: was just like the that was spikee. You know, Spider
- 12:04Speaker 1: is just aggressive and violent and angry and just like
- 12:08Speaker 1: makes you clench your fists, right, And I think that's
- 12:11Speaker 1: just what we go for no matter what. Like when writing,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it doesn't have to fall into deathcore, like fall into
- 12:19Speaker 1: thrash or fall into this like whatever we're we're a
- 12:24Speaker 1: melting pot of all the metal music we loved growing up,
- 12:28Speaker 1: you know, I think, and still now we're influenced by
- 12:30Speaker 1: bands today too, you know. So I think it didn't
- 12:36Speaker 1: really It just started with wanting to be aggressive and
- 12:40Speaker 1: pissed and we wanted to be heavy. And I think
- 12:43Speaker 1: at the time when we thought of heavy like it
- 12:46Speaker 1: was just that slow, chuggy and you know, it started
- 12:52Speaker 1: that way, and as you know, we wrote more songs
- 12:56Speaker 1: and records and stuff. We just ended up writing differently.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Just happens you get older, you get inspired by different things.
- 13:03Speaker 1: But I don't think that the undertone of spikes, anger
- 13:09Speaker 1: and aggression is ever left. And I think we'll always
- 13:12Speaker 1: have that in our music, no matter what way of
- 13:15Speaker 1: metal we explore, you know.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And I've before I let you go, mate, I've got
- 13:20Speaker 2: a new segment I've started called photo Bombs. So basically
- 13:23Speaker 2: I've troll through your social media I've come up with
- 13:25Speaker 2: a few photos. I want to know a little bit
- 13:27Speaker 2: more about speaking about your influences before, mate, and I
- 13:32Speaker 2: never actually paid you guys to have kisses and influence.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely Alex and a Gene Simmons. Of course. I
- 13:42Speaker 1: remember when I heard God of Thunder when I was young,
- 13:45Speaker 1: and I thought it was like the craziest thing ever did.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But yeah, we were having a time on that tour.
- 13:54Speaker 1: It was just I don't know, I'm trying to remember
- 13:56Speaker 1: why we decided on kiss. There was definitely a reason
- 14:00Speaker 1: we decide on kiss. But no one on that tour
- 14:03Speaker 1: dressed up for Halloween. We're the only band that did
- 14:06Speaker 1: it well, you know. But yeah, it was really fun.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think we wanted to be a band for sure,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and it just fit with all the members and stuff.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Now got one more for it. Like I've seen a
- 14:24Speaker 2: lot of random fight ice so I've been doing this, mate,
- 14:27Speaker 2: but this is probably one of the most random I've
- 14:29Speaker 2: ever seen. Like, I'm sure there's a story behind it,
- 14:31Speaker 2: but what is it? Where is it?
- 14:34Speaker 1: Oh? Yeah, that's the old Graphic Nature studio or Machine shop.
- 14:42Speaker 1: It's it's where we recorded Dedication to Flesh. So that's
- 14:47Speaker 1: in Newark, New Jersey. That's where we or Belleville, New Jersey,
- 14:53Speaker 1: that's where we went out to track with Matt google
- 14:57Speaker 1: Almo for Dedication to Flesh.
- 15:00Speaker 2: All Right, it doesn't look like much. It just looks
- 15:02Speaker 2: like a block a block of house in units.
- 15:05Speaker 1: That place was pretty depressing. I'm not gonna lie. Uh
- 15:09Speaker 1: it was. It was a rough recording experience. We were
- 15:14Speaker 1: not happy being there. It's just a it was like
- 15:20Speaker 1: a cold dungeon, just no heat. It was in November.
- 15:26Speaker 1: It was freezing cold, no hot water. Uh, nowhere to
- 15:32Speaker 1: walk around anywhere. It was just just the fucking Yeah.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It was rough. But hey, we made a very awesome
- 15:40Speaker 1: album there.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I'll tell you to bring those bad memories up.
- 15:44Speaker 1: For man, sometimes you got to be in a ship
- 15:47Speaker 1: position to push you alright.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Well, thanks very much for your time. Broce fight all right.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Australia fourth he select you head along to see him
- 15:58Speaker 2: and I'll see you in Brisbane.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I'll see you there, a man, good talking you did,
