- 0:55Speaker 4: like lying in bed and chest, it's like, what are
- 0:56Speaker 4: you thinking about? Like this is like when Leye like
- 0:58Speaker 4: what are you thinking about? I'm like, yeah, Mike free
- 1:00Speaker 4: preference for linebackers. Help from Wisconsin chiming in here about

- 1:19Speaker 8: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:24Speaker 4: All right, welcome into another edition of Patriots Unfiltered. And
- 1:27Speaker 4: that's right, guys, it's a kids show today, at least
- 1:30Speaker 4: for the first half. We got Matison, we got Alex Evan, myself,
- 1:34Speaker 4: Paul and Fred doing vacation kind of stuff out there.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Deserved well deserved, of course, two of the hardest working
- 1:41Speaker 4: guys we know. So if you want to call in
- 1:43Speaker 4: and yell at us a little bit, or you know,
- 1:45Speaker 4: bring a little bit of that energy, we'd love to
- 1:47Speaker 4: have it. But otherwise, we're well into the off season here,
- 1:49Speaker 4: so we're gonna have a little bit of an off
- 1:51Speaker 4: season show today. I think we're open for discussions. I
- 1:54Speaker 4: don't know what are we going to talk about today?
- 1:55Speaker 4: We get Alex and Tisse, maybe can chime in a
- 1:58Speaker 4: little bit on the super Bowl. Some of themmercials apparently
- 2:00Speaker 4: out it's already brought one up that I totally missed.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Uh so, I'm glad you didn't watch the commercial. I
- 2:05Speaker 4: didn't really watch them.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I got it was hard for me too.
- 2:09Speaker 7: They announced them two weeks before the game.
- 2:11Speaker 4: They're not specially I think you need a like a
- 2:14Speaker 4: Chiron on some of these commercials to let you know,
- 2:16Speaker 4: like this is a big budget one like this, Like
- 2:18Speaker 4: I mean, I guess with Harrison Ford, I missed that one.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Yeah, the Jeep one with Harrison.
- 2:23Speaker 7: My favorite is the Seal one with the Mountain dew.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Yeah, we got we talked about Seal.
- 2:28Speaker 5: That was my favorite.
- 2:29Speaker 9: Cousin Michelle wants to stop talking. So that's kind of
- 2:31Speaker 9: Hardchell sometimes.
- 2:34Speaker 3: So so is today.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Some fun today?
- 2:37Speaker 10: For sure.
- 2:37Speaker 4: We're gonna have Matt No Socks Smith in from the
- 2:40Speaker 4: premium post game show. We haven't heard from him since
- 2:42Speaker 4: that big post game show we had, so check in
- 2:44Speaker 4: with Matt here in the second hour as well, and uh,
- 2:47Speaker 4: you know, some things going on, I would say outside
- 2:49Speaker 4: of the Patriots universe a little bit Red Sox making
- 2:51Speaker 4: a signing, so I know we got some some Red
- 2:53Speaker 4: Sox fans who are back on the bandwagon here.
- 2:55Speaker 3: The protest is over and I on.
- 2:59Speaker 5: Their REP today, Right, you're not even gonna wait for
- 3:02Speaker 5: the rep to call it, you know, just going around.
- 3:05Speaker 4: We're back, baby, I'm we go.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Let's go at the outdoor ball.
- 3:10Speaker 3: It's not even like twenty sixteen. We're still excited about it.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Well it's it's I was uh no, but he's a
- 3:18Speaker 5: good player. Yeah, and uh, you know, to make it
- 3:20Speaker 5: a little bit patriot focus, I think a lot of
- 3:23Speaker 5: what the things the Red Sox have done this offseason,
- 3:25Speaker 5: it is kind of like what the Commanders did for
- 3:28Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels, which is just surround some of that young
- 3:31Speaker 5: core with actual MLB talent, right, Like, you know, guys
- 3:36Speaker 5: that can actually play the role that they're being asked
- 3:39Speaker 5: to play and have done it at a high level
- 3:42Speaker 5: in baseball before. You know, Bregman, Walker, Bueller, Crochet. You know,
- 3:47Speaker 5: you sign these guys and then you hope that the
- 3:49Speaker 5: Tristan Cassas and the Roman Anthony's and all these other
- 3:53Speaker 5: players are the ones that give you a ceiling, and
- 3:56Speaker 5: these guys are kind of giving you that floor. So
- 3:58Speaker 5: I do think it is a little bit of patriot
- 4:00Speaker 5: its ties, you know, just the way they structured the
- 4:01Speaker 5: contract short term, but a lot of money, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 5: big money for Bregman. So there are some things that
- 4:07Speaker 5: you could look at from it and say, well, if
- 4:10Speaker 5: the Patriots did that and then you know Drake May
- 4:12Speaker 5: and Christian Gonzalez and the number four pick, like, that's
- 4:15Speaker 5: the ceiling and the floor is Alex Bregman, did you think.
- 4:18Speaker 7: So you say that?
- 4:19Speaker 4: So let's get right into some Patriots self, because it
- 4:20Speaker 4: just made me think like this, does this Patriots team
- 4:23Speaker 4: seem like the team that needs that, you know, let's
- 4:25Speaker 4: bring in a veteran kind of guy, you know, like
- 4:28Speaker 4: I'm thinking a Mark Reki back with the with this
- 4:30Speaker 4: Bruins playoff Runno, you know you still have Patrice Bergern
- 4:32Speaker 4: back then, Sorry, we're going around the hornet with all
- 4:34Speaker 4: the Boston sports sports, I think there's an element of
- 4:37Speaker 4: unknown with this Patriots team and Mike Rabel about we
- 4:39Speaker 4: talked a little bit about Jawan Bentley, as you know,
- 4:42Speaker 4: is he a perfect fit, is you know, a linebacker?
- 4:44Speaker 4: It seems like Rabel would love that kind of guy.
- 4:45Speaker 4: But such an unknown of what this roster is going
- 4:48Speaker 4: to look like here in the next few weeks, what
- 4:50Speaker 4: kind of changes they're going to make and I think
- 4:52Speaker 4: we all kind of agree that maybe there is an
- 4:55Speaker 4: influx of some kind of guy who's going to set
- 4:57Speaker 4: the tone a little bit as a veteran, which feels
- 4:59Speaker 4: a little weird to say because you were holding on
- 5:00Speaker 4: to you know, you still got guys like David Andrews around,
- 5:03Speaker 4: you know, who was part of great things here and
- 5:06Speaker 4: has that pedigree. But at the same time, it still
- 5:08Speaker 4: feels like a little bit more of a younger team
- 5:10Speaker 4: now that maybe needs a little bit of an influx
- 5:12Speaker 4: of veteran presence.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I would agree, and you know, just to make
- 5:17Speaker 5: it like a baseball football comparison, like to me, Alex
- 5:20Speaker 5: Sprigman is like if the Patriots signed like Chris Godwin
- 5:24Speaker 5: or traded for Cooper Cup, Like, is he at the
- 5:26Speaker 5: peak of his powers anymore? Probably not, But he's one
- 5:29Speaker 5: World Series, He's walked a lot, he knows what it takes.
- 5:32Speaker 5: And you know, to your point, Duce, like to do
- 5:35Speaker 5: the Patriots need to go out and add those types
- 5:37Speaker 5: of players this offseason, like the Commanders added Bobby Wagner.
- 5:41Speaker 5: You know, it's just one of those types of guys
- 5:43Speaker 5: future Hall of Famer but might not be at the
- 5:45Speaker 5: peak of his powers anymore. So I do think we're
- 5:48Speaker 5: going to see that with the Patriots. It might not
- 5:50Speaker 5: be all they do, but I do think we're going
- 5:52Speaker 5: to see some Rabel circle the wagons type of guys
- 5:55Speaker 5: because the guys that have been here aren't his guys,
- 5:58Speaker 5: Like those aren't necessarily guys that are are here to
- 6:02Speaker 5: set his image and his culture. You know, that's old
- 6:04Speaker 5: regime players. So I do think we're going to see
- 6:07Speaker 5: a turn over there.
- 6:08Speaker 9: And Rabel really saw firsthand he was part of those
- 6:11Speaker 9: groups of guys that led the locker room, that policed itself.
- 6:14Speaker 9: We've talked about it many times on this show, but
- 6:17Speaker 9: that's what we really need to get back to.
- 6:19Speaker 3: For me, that's was one of the biggest things we
- 6:21Speaker 3: were missing last.
- 6:22Speaker 9: Season, was that those veteran presences, especially in the receiver
- 6:25Speaker 9: receiver room.
- 6:26Speaker 4: Yeah, along those lines of te I got to give
- 6:28Speaker 4: you a shout out because we get into as we
- 6:30Speaker 4: get into free agency now, Tis and I we started
- 6:32Speaker 4: within like a couple months of each other here, and
- 6:34Speaker 4: I distinctly remember as we got to the spring, you
- 6:38Speaker 4: hyping up t Higgins like I remember in the draft
- 6:41Speaker 4: process before we even listened to tease about anything to
- 6:44Speaker 4: do with like who's this guy, like the guy you're
- 6:46Speaker 4: talking draft, he'd be in the back corner kind of
- 6:50Speaker 4: around the corner from me. And I remember you talking
- 6:52Speaker 4: about about T Higgins and now T Higgins is you know,
- 6:55Speaker 4: looks like he very well could hit free agency. But
- 6:57Speaker 4: I know he was always he's been one of your
- 6:58Speaker 4: guys coming back.
- 6:59Speaker 7: I would love it. Just think about all the people
- 7:01Speaker 7: that I've said and we've missed on a ceedee lamb,
- 7:03Speaker 7: like Calvin Ridley, Like it's just it's there's a chance, right,
- 7:07Speaker 7: you're wrong. We've seen what aj Brown too. I know
- 7:08Speaker 7: he just won making some stuff said on Instagram. But
- 7:12Speaker 7: just like we keep missing, there's always a chance to
- 7:13Speaker 7: write your wrongs. Just just get him. We have the money,
- 7:15Speaker 7: go get him. Does does he want to come? That's
- 7:17Speaker 7: the probably the question. And I think weather like today
- 7:20Speaker 7: isn't doing us anything.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Yeah for those who don't care, which is probably anyone
- 7:24Speaker 4: not here, but very very messy, sloppy. But we're all
- 7:26Speaker 4: we're all here and we all made it, and uh,
- 7:29Speaker 4: you know, and like look, let's we got to talk
- 7:31Speaker 4: a little Patriots news because Jacque Jackson resigned with the
- 7:34Speaker 4: team Evan and uh, I know Tis and Alex probably
- 7:37Speaker 4: zone out on that one, but uh.
- 7:42Speaker 7: I was like, when was this safe?
- 7:47Speaker 4: So they're starting to make some moves though, and we
- 7:50Speaker 4: talked about Jeremiah Farm's kind of tongue in cheap but
- 7:52Speaker 4: you know, not anything major money or anything like that,
- 7:55Speaker 4: but they're uh, you know, I I know people have
- 7:58Speaker 4: a lot of responses of like, well, this is what
- 7:59Speaker 4: we are going to sign these guys, you know, and
- 8:01Speaker 4: I look at it as these guys who have been around,
- 8:04Speaker 4: they understand the program, You have some degree of trust
- 8:06Speaker 4: and knowledge of who these players are, and you're really
- 8:09Speaker 4: thinking more about training camp and the depth and you know,
- 8:12Speaker 4: giving players like this an opportunity to excel. Whereas I think,
- 8:16Speaker 4: you know, Jeremiah Farms got so much praise last year
- 8:18Speaker 4: from from you know, Jerry Montgomery, the defensive line coach,
- 8:21Speaker 4: of just being constantly in the building and you hear
- 8:24Speaker 4: that a lot with the Patriots over the years that
- 8:27Speaker 4: you know, guys that first went in, last one out
- 8:29Speaker 4: kind of guys. But with Jeremiah Farms, it seemed legitimately
- 8:32Speaker 4: like it and we don't have to make this a
- 8:33Speaker 4: Jeremiah Farm show. But I mean, I will say when
- 8:36Speaker 4: we talk about defensive scheme shifts and that kind of thing,
- 8:39Speaker 4: seems like maybe jeremih Farms might be a little better
- 8:41Speaker 4: suited just to be a get up the field kind
- 8:42Speaker 4: of three technique player, and maybe that suits him, maybe
- 8:44Speaker 4: he blossoms. It's not big money. But you know, same
- 8:46Speaker 4: thing with Jawai Jackson, where he's been here a little bit.
- 8:49Speaker 4: They know who he is at least personally. There's gonna
- 8:51Speaker 4: be obviously an offensive change. But I like that these
- 8:54Speaker 4: moves are starting to happen. It's nothing that you need
- 8:56Speaker 4: to It's not t Higgins yet. You know, we're not
- 8:58Speaker 4: talking about the big fish and free agents, but starting
- 9:01Speaker 4: to take care of some of their own things in house.
- 9:03Speaker 7: I think a big thing also is just depth, and
- 9:05Speaker 7: the Patriots just didn't have that. This is a guy
- 9:07Speaker 7: you're familiar with and he's he's solid, So like, let's
- 9:10Speaker 7: let's build the depth a little and you start with
- 9:12Speaker 7: those kind of players.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah. I love his attitude. I mean that's the big thing.
- 9:14Speaker 4: And you know what you're gonna get out of him.
- 9:16Speaker 4: He's gonna come in and work his butt off. So
- 9:18Speaker 4: and you know, Jackson, I don't really remember a lot
- 9:20Speaker 4: of him in camp, to be honest. Everyone put the
- 9:22Speaker 4: clip up of him catching that touchdown season, it's like,
- 9:24Speaker 4: oh yeah.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah him.
- 9:25Speaker 5: Yeah, he had a nice last preseason audition there before
- 9:29Speaker 5: that injury that that he suffered. But with Jeremiah Farms,
- 9:32Speaker 5: I do find it a little bit interesting that they're
- 9:34Speaker 5: they'll make a move like that. Not that it's big money,
- 9:37Speaker 5: but it does sound like it was a contract that
- 9:40Speaker 5: puts him in pretty good position to make the twenty
- 9:42Speaker 5: twenty five roster. And like, what background does Rabel have
- 9:45Speaker 5: with Jeremiah Farms? And uh, you know, at what point
- 9:48Speaker 5: does he pick you know, a guy that maybe he
- 9:51Speaker 5: had his eye on and free agency or the draft
- 9:53Speaker 5: versus Jeremiah Farms to make the roster. So that tells
- 9:56Speaker 5: me just a little bit, even though it's at the
- 9:58Speaker 5: back end of the roster that Elliott Wolf still has
- 10:01Speaker 5: some say in the room of what's going on because
- 10:04Speaker 5: that's an Elliot Wolf player. That's a guy that was
- 10:06Speaker 5: identified and found by the last you know, front office regime.
- 10:11Speaker 5: So that part of it was interesting to me was Okay, well,
- 10:14Speaker 5: you know, this is clearly somebody trumpeting Jeremiah farms to
- 10:17Speaker 5: Mike Rabel, because Mike Rabel has zero background with his player,
- 10:20Speaker 5: so it clearly is you know Elliott wolf for you
- 10:24Speaker 5: know the scouting department, you know Patrick Stewart, mac Rowe
- 10:27Speaker 5: still here, like one of those people has a little
- 10:30Speaker 5: bit of influence, probably Elliott to make those types of moves.
- 10:33Speaker 4: One more thing I want to bring up to, which
- 10:35Speaker 4: I think happened the end of last week, so we
- 10:36Speaker 4: didn't really get a chance to talk about it, but
- 10:38Speaker 4: Brian Belichick and Mike Pellegrino officially moving on. It sounds
- 10:42Speaker 4: like Brian's gonna land down in UNC with his dad.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Not all that surprising. I thought that would happen quick.
- 10:48Speaker 4: And then Mike Pellogrino unfortunately fortunately slash and for glad
- 10:51Speaker 4: he got a job, but unfortunately sticking in the division
- 10:53Speaker 4: and going up to Buffalo. But I'm just interested to
- 10:56Speaker 4: see what the changes are that secondary, the way that
- 11:00Speaker 4: they were able to moreph you know, they always would
- 11:02Speaker 4: say those two guys like we coached together, were defensive backs.
- 11:05Speaker 4: There's no difference between safety's cornerbacks.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Uh.
- 11:07Speaker 4: The way that they worked in conjunction with each other,
- 11:09Speaker 4: it does seem like a significant change and one of
- 11:11Speaker 4: the few pieces that held over from the previous regime.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Uh so happy for those guys to move on, but
- 11:17Speaker 4: also a little sad like both of them and thought
- 11:19Speaker 4: they were both really good coaches.
- 11:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I hate that Mike Pelgreno went the Buffalo and
- 11:23Speaker 5: that's a bummer. I think that's great for Bill's got
- 11:25Speaker 5: a really good coach, Kyrie Illum, let's get him on track.
- 11:28Speaker 9: No story is so cool too, like the sass background
- 11:32Speaker 9: coming in or like just building a career here, Like
- 11:35Speaker 9: you you can't imagine that that was like his dream job,
- 11:39Speaker 9: right like no time seems like it just.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Felt No, I don't. I don't remember when I first
- 11:43Speaker 4: started here and we had like our first coach availability
- 11:45Speaker 4: and I thought I had this like doozy of a question.
- 11:47Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, this is gonna be great. I'm gonna
- 11:48Speaker 4: go up and ask them abou lacrosse. And you know, Mike,
- 11:50Speaker 4: it was like He's like, yeah, I did. I've been
- 11:52Speaker 4: asked this five thousand times. I can get congradulations, but
- 11:56Speaker 4: but but really, Mike was one of, you know, one
- 11:58Speaker 4: of my favorite coaches on the staff. Opportunity when we
- 12:01Speaker 4: were up in Green Bay was we were waiting for
- 12:04Speaker 4: practice to kind of get going during joint practices, and
- 12:07Speaker 4: he just was hanging out chatting with us, talking, you know,
- 12:09Speaker 4: off football is just real life kind of stuff. So
- 12:11Speaker 4: I just, you know, one of my favorites on the
- 12:13Speaker 4: staff and now he's moving on.
- 12:14Speaker 7: So very active too. You don't see a lot of
- 12:17Speaker 7: coaches getting down dirty and like running with the players
- 12:20Speaker 7: a lot. So oh yeah, always up to speed with
- 12:22Speaker 7: them the.
- 12:22Speaker 4: MIDI yeah, run right, yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 5: I you know the Dave Petromala connection there between Belichick
- 12:28Speaker 5: and Dave Petromalo who used to coach John Hopkins lacrosse,
- 12:31Speaker 5: and Pelgrino played for Petromala and they he was kind
- 12:36Speaker 5: of like a lacrosse coaching legend. He's won like a
- 12:39Speaker 5: bunch of national championships and stuff like that. So he
- 12:41Speaker 5: had a relationship with Bill and that's sort of how
- 12:44Speaker 5: Bill stumbled upon Mike Pelgrino down at Johns Hopkins. And
- 12:48Speaker 5: I was talking to some people in Buffalo about him
- 12:51Speaker 5: last week, and they just are really excited about him
- 12:55Speaker 5: potentially changing up their defense a little bit. I think
- 12:57Speaker 5: people in Buffalo believe their defense got a little predictable,
- 13:00Speaker 5: you know, under Seawan McDermott's been that Cover two Carolina
- 13:03Speaker 5: system for a very long time. It's a good system,
- 13:06Speaker 5: but I think they want to see a little bit
- 13:08Speaker 5: more man coverage, a little bit more aggressiveness, you know,
- 13:10Speaker 5: with the way they blitz and things like that, and
- 13:13Speaker 5: they're hoping that a guy like Pelgrino with the Belichick
- 13:16Speaker 5: background can bring some of those elements to it. So
- 13:18Speaker 5: it'll be interesting to see if that happens, or if
- 13:21Speaker 5: Pelgrino coaches more of his own team or if they
- 13:23Speaker 5: do kind of morph a little bit and his image
- 13:26Speaker 5: to more man to man. So great coach, and you know,
- 13:29Speaker 5: it's a tough one. It's a tough one to lose
- 13:30Speaker 5: him in the division, you don't You never like to
- 13:32Speaker 5: see that, Like if he all of a sudden turns
- 13:34Speaker 5: Kyrie Illam into like what he was supposed to be
- 13:37Speaker 5: coming out of the first round, and I'm gonna be
- 13:39Speaker 5: mad at him. I'm gonna go up to him and
- 13:41Speaker 5: like what the heck.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Man's few coaches that you know come through that just
- 13:44Speaker 4: have been so consistent and always really always seem to
- 13:47Speaker 4: have a really good player within his position group, guys
- 13:50Speaker 4: that always had good seasons. I mean Stefan Gilmour, bless you,
- 13:53Speaker 4: ale Than Stefan Gilmour's development. Of course, that's a big
- 13:57Speaker 4: part of J. C. Jackson's development was a big part
- 13:59Speaker 4: of it. And then of course Christian Gonzalez being able
- 14:01Speaker 4: to come in as a rookie do a great job.
- 14:03Speaker 4: So yeah, it's unfortunate, but hey, what can you do.
- 14:06Speaker 4: That's that's the league, and just happy those guys have jobs.
- 14:09Speaker 4: They get lucky to be stable here for a while.
- 14:12Speaker 4: But doesn't sound like Brian Belichick's the only former Patriot
- 14:15Speaker 4: going down there on the Garrett Blunt his son is
- 14:18Speaker 4: now going to UNC AS. I guess he has an
- 14:20Speaker 4: offer I believe was exactly what it was.
- 14:22Speaker 7: Offer.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and I feel old.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, Matt Patricia going to Ohio State and I'm
- 14:28Speaker 5: gonna bring that one on some coordinator. That one's interesting.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Ohio State just seems to they're like a mercenary school
- 14:34Speaker 5: right now for coordinators. Just whatever coordinator, big name coordinator
- 14:38Speaker 5: they can get their hand on for a year or
- 14:40Speaker 5: two to coach up that side of the ball. You know.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Chip Kelly's there for like a cup of coffee, wins
- 14:45Speaker 5: a national championship and then bounces right back to the NFL.
- 14:48Speaker 5: So that looks like what Patricia's trying to do, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 5: get his reputation up by having a good year with
- 14:54Speaker 5: Ohio State. It's a good school to catch on to, Like,
- 14:56Speaker 5: you're plenty of talent, so they're gonna have a talent
- 14:59Speaker 5: advantage on every single week. You're all out there.
- 15:01Speaker 4: So well, I gotta I'll have a clip later in
- 15:04Speaker 4: the show, maybe in the second hour, and No Socks
- 15:05Speaker 4: gets on here. But spoke with Matt Patricia on the
- 15:08Speaker 4: two thousand and four podcast that I did, so we're
- 15:10Speaker 4: gonna play a clip from him in the second hour
- 15:13Speaker 4: with No Socks when he comes in. It's also No
- 15:15Speaker 4: Socks does the Pats from the Past podcast, which if
- 15:18Speaker 4: you guys haven't listened to the Pats on the Past podcast,
- 15:20Speaker 4: I mean I'm not. I'm sure not sure what episode Matt, Well, Maddy,
- 15:23Speaker 4: how many episodes you know off the top of your head,
- 15:25Speaker 4: how many episodes of Pats from the Past. He's given
- 15:27Speaker 4: me the one second, one finger, right, But they're awesome.
- 15:30Speaker 4: They're all, you know, available wherever your podcasts are. I
- 15:33Speaker 4: poached a bunch of stuff from their interviews from Corey
- 15:36Speaker 4: Dillon fifty episode fifty episodes with just a wide range.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Gronk was a recent one. As Matist pointed out, that
- 15:43Speaker 4: was excellent. Matt has I mean, Matt has been here
- 15:46Speaker 4: since the nineties, so I mean he knows everything there
- 15:48Speaker 4: is to know about this this Patriot same. Wait, I
- 15:50Speaker 4: might miss I might miss say we have to ask
- 15:51Speaker 4: him when he got here. It might have been a
- 15:53Speaker 4: little bit after the nineties. I get confused with Paul,
- 15:55Speaker 4: but he's been around here, He's been in sports forever,
- 15:57Speaker 4: and he knows everything there is to know about those
- 15:58Speaker 4: old Patriots teams. So uh, talk to that a little
- 16:01Speaker 4: bit later. And that is coming out next week, So Monday,
- 16:04Speaker 4: the first episode will drop. Matt he just finished up
- 16:06Speaker 4: editing that. One's so excited to share that with with
- 16:08Speaker 4: Patriot fans coming up next week, and of course give
- 16:12Speaker 4: us a call TPX hotline eight five to five, PATS
- 16:15Speaker 4: five hundred. Like we said, everything's on the table today.
- 16:17Speaker 4: We kind of blasted through all the Patriots news in
- 16:19Speaker 4: the first fifteen minutes.
- 16:20Speaker 7: Rogers like I had that on my list to t Sorry,
- 16:23Speaker 7: let's see Aaron Rodgers officially announced of he's not returning.
- 16:28Speaker 7: They haven't don't think they've done the transaction yet, but
- 16:30Speaker 7: they say get out of here.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Is it weird to you guys? Need tomorrow we're talking
- 16:33Speaker 3: about this that the Jets like posted.
- 16:35Speaker 4: That it will not be returning, Like it's a Sam
- 16:38Speaker 4: Darnold like flex, you know that.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Like are you trying to fish for engage? Like what
- 16:41Speaker 3: are you doing? Are you post that's the right move
- 16:44Speaker 3: for Like I get it, but like also them flying
- 16:46Speaker 3: him out just to.
- 16:47Speaker 7: Call him, and did they really like he actually like
- 16:51Speaker 7: he didn't have that bad He put similar numbers to
- 16:53Speaker 7: my homes. It was in the Super Bowl. Like, I
- 16:55Speaker 7: know there's a lot off field stuff, but yeah, it
- 16:58Speaker 7: sounded your answer is.
- 16:59Speaker 5: It sounded like they offered him a deal that they
- 17:03Speaker 5: probably knew he wasn't going to take. Yeah, but it
- 17:06Speaker 5: was like a strip down, you know, media availability, like
- 17:10Speaker 5: no Pat McAfee. I think was showing that. Yeah. I
- 17:13Speaker 5: think Diana Russini reported that they wanted him to stop
- 17:17Speaker 5: doing Pat McAfee during the season, so like he was
- 17:20Speaker 5: gonna have to basically, you know, play ball with Aaron
- 17:23Speaker 5: Glenn and follow the rules a little bit more strictly,
- 17:26Speaker 5: and they weren't gonna be as you know, married to
- 17:29Speaker 5: him in terms of all their decisions, and like we're
- 17:32Speaker 5: gonna get Alan Lazard and we're gonna get DeVante Adams
- 17:35Speaker 5: and we're gonna do all these things just to appease
- 17:37Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers. It sounded like they wanted to kind of
- 17:40Speaker 5: take the team back a little bit from Aaron Rodgers,
- 17:43Speaker 5: and it didn't seem like that was gonna be possible
- 17:46Speaker 5: with them continuing on together. Kind of sounds a little
- 17:49Speaker 5: bit like Bill and the Patriots, to be honest with you,
- 17:51Speaker 5: where like you can't really pull it back, you know,
- 17:54Speaker 5: like once it's it's given to him that kind of power,
- 17:57Speaker 5: it was hard to find a middle ground to pull
- 17:59Speaker 5: it back. But well, I find it interesting with the Jets,
- 18:01Speaker 5: like where do they go at quarterback? There's not a
- 18:04Speaker 5: ton of options like and not bring them back Sam Darnay.
- 18:06Speaker 7: So like there's not a ton of options.
- 18:12Speaker 5: For the veteran market or the draft this year. So
- 18:15Speaker 5: this could be like kind of a bridge year for
- 18:18Speaker 5: the Jets at quarterback, and that that'll be interesting to
- 18:21Speaker 5: see how New York candles that if you told.
- 18:24Speaker 9: Us, I just remember, like our conversations we had on
- 18:26Speaker 9: the show right around when he signed with the Jets,
- 18:28Speaker 9: if you told me two years ago it was going to.
- 18:30Speaker 7: Play out how it did, running out exactly sounds exactly right.
- 18:36Speaker 9: Well, the Jets aren't gonna jet, but it just felt
- 18:39Speaker 9: a little different.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 18:41Speaker 9: I feel like Evan was very skeptical.
- 18:46Speaker 5: Working out at the level everybody.
- 18:49Speaker 3: It would blow up in their face like it did.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I didn't know. I didn't anticipate that they were
- 18:54Speaker 5: going to be complete non factor. I just a lot
- 18:57Speaker 5: of people were picking them to make the Super Bowl
- 18:59Speaker 5: or win the Super Bowl out of the AFC, and
- 19:00Speaker 5: I was like, let's let's calm down.
- 19:03Speaker 7: And it's it's five years of a pretty good defense wasted. Yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Yeah, they took a step teams. I'm just starting to
- 19:12Speaker 5: like that. That's a part of it for the Jets
- 19:14Speaker 5: with me, like maybe we're overrating their roster just a
- 19:17Speaker 5: little bit. Like the team doesn't win, so at the
- 19:19Speaker 5: end of the day, we can blame it on the coaching,
- 19:21Speaker 5: we can blame it on the quarterback. They keep changing
- 19:23Speaker 5: both things, right, they keep revolving through both things, and
- 19:26Speaker 5: the roster doesn't win. So, like I get that they
- 19:29Speaker 5: have some like top end talent. You know, Garrett Wilson,
- 19:32Speaker 5: Sauce Gardner, Quinn Williams, like, those are good players. Bresee Hall,
- 19:36Speaker 5: But I don't know, maybe there's more holes on that
- 19:38Speaker 5: roster than they give people think, because every time we
- 19:41Speaker 5: talk about the Jets, I feel like everybody's always like
- 19:43Speaker 5: that roster is amazing. I'm like, Okay, how many games
- 19:45Speaker 5: did they win?
- 19:46Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 19:46Speaker 5: They won five, And it's like at some point you
- 19:49Speaker 5: have to look in the mirror and say, you know,
- 19:51Speaker 5: are we overrating our team a little bit? It does
- 19:54Speaker 5: feel like that a little bit to me.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I mean, do you think that this is uh now,
- 19:57Speaker 4: I think Adams is Adams a free agent.
- 19:59Speaker 5: So no, he's under but you know, all the reporting
- 20:02Speaker 5: is that there's no way he's coming back.
- 20:03Speaker 4: They're going to like de Roger five. Yeah, the roster
- 20:06Speaker 4: now yeah. So I mean, I just keep going back
- 20:08Speaker 4: to what you know, Mike Rabel said when we first
- 20:10Speaker 4: heard with him. From him, where we have to be
- 20:13Speaker 4: able to take advantage of.
- 20:14Speaker 7: Bad football first.
- 20:15Speaker 4: And if the Jets are taking a step back, certainly
- 20:17Speaker 4: they have a rookie quarterback or an unproven quarterback, it
- 20:20Speaker 4: would give you some pauses. Maybe the Patriots, you know,
- 20:22Speaker 4: can be back in the mix with them. I know
- 20:23Speaker 4: we split with him last year, but uh in the
- 20:26Speaker 4: year before, right, that was when they finally broke the streak.
- 20:28Speaker 4: So maybe an opportunity there for the Patriots. Where does
- 20:32Speaker 4: where does Rogers land? He's not done, is he?
- 20:35Speaker 7: I think creators? Yeah, that's the only thing I can
- 20:37Speaker 7: think that a lot of players don't even where everybody
- 20:39Speaker 7: goes to die. Yeah, I don't know. I think the
- 20:42Speaker 7: only reason we retired is because he hit five hundred
- 20:45Speaker 7: passing touchdowns, Like he was stuck at four ninety nine
- 20:47Speaker 7: for a while, and I think just with him would
- 20:49Speaker 7: bother him a lot.
- 20:49Speaker 2: YEA.
- 20:50Speaker 7: So now I just don't know, because.
- 20:52Speaker 4: It's not his terms, right, Like if he goes out now,
- 20:54Speaker 4: it doesn't feel entirely like it's his choice, and I
- 20:56Speaker 4: think that would kind of bug him, like he and
- 20:58Speaker 4: I watched some of that document I don't know if
- 21:00Speaker 4: you guys watched it, the one that came out. I
- 21:02Speaker 4: guess it was last year about behind the scenes of
- 21:04Speaker 4: him and seemed like they were setting out to make
- 21:06Speaker 4: a documentary about the season, and then it became a
- 21:08Speaker 4: documentary about him dealing with the injury. But from what
- 21:12Speaker 4: I saw of him. It seems like he wants to
- 21:13Speaker 4: write his own last chapter. He doesn't want to have
- 21:16Speaker 4: it written for him. So I'd be surprised if he
- 21:19Speaker 4: doesn't catch on somewhere. But I don't know what the
- 21:22Speaker 4: Jets do either.
- 21:22Speaker 5: There's too many quarterback needy teams and there's not enough
- 21:25Speaker 5: quarterbacks available this offseason. So whether it's the Raiders, the Saints,
- 21:29Speaker 5: the Titans, the Browns, like the Giants like just go,
- 21:34Speaker 5: there's so many quarterback needy teams and it's not a
- 21:37Speaker 5: good year for quarterbacks in the draft. So to do
- 21:40Speaker 5: what the Jets tried to do and hit, you know,
- 21:42Speaker 5: strike lightning in a bottle one year of Aaron Rodgers
- 21:45Speaker 5: and how if it works and he's an MVP caliber player,
- 21:48Speaker 5: then maybe you're a relevant team. I think that there's
- 21:51Speaker 5: worse things to do in a lot of ways for
- 21:53Speaker 5: these teams that are desperate for quarterbacks in a year
- 21:56Speaker 5: that doesn't have a ton of quarterbacks in the draft.
- 21:58Speaker 5: Like maybe now you drafted on Day two that has
- 22:01Speaker 5: some upside and you have him train under Aaron Rodgers
- 22:04Speaker 5: and maybe you hand the keys to him in twenty
- 22:07Speaker 5: twenty six. If it ends up working out, So I
- 22:09Speaker 5: don't think it's the worst thing in the world for
- 22:12Speaker 5: a team like the Raiders or one of those teams
- 22:14Speaker 5: picking in the top three to opt to go with
- 22:17Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers over going with Shador Sanders at two overall
- 22:21Speaker 5: like that, that's going to be a reach on a
- 22:22Speaker 5: player like that. So I think there could be a
- 22:25Speaker 5: market for him just for that.
- 22:27Speaker 4: I just got like just a quick side question, cam
- 22:30Speaker 4: Warp trade up people, is he gonna Is he gonna
- 22:32Speaker 4: get overdrafted cam Ward? I think that's like maybe one
- 22:34Speaker 4: of the big questions for the Patriots in this draft.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Can someone take Kim Ward in those top three picks
- 22:39Speaker 4: or trade up to take him in.
- 22:40Speaker 7: Those huge draft? Reminds me of the can you pick
- 22:42Speaker 7: at draft? Which is silly now because he just won
- 22:43Speaker 7: a Super Bowl, but it's just like I think, no,
- 22:47Speaker 7: you watch his team, but it just like it. It
- 22:50Speaker 7: just seems like this is a draft that could get
- 22:52Speaker 7: a GM in a lot of trouble and you're then
- 22:54Speaker 7: you're just stuck with another mid quarterback, and especially with
- 22:58Speaker 7: I think next year's draft, there's some better prospects out there,
- 23:01Speaker 7: so you really want to risk it.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Well, yeah, this is when ownership, I feel like gets
- 23:06Speaker 5: in the way of football sometimes in the NFL where
- 23:09Speaker 5: the owner comes to the general manager and is like,
- 23:11Speaker 5: we need a quarterback and it needs to be a splash,
- 23:14Speaker 5: like we can't just go out there and sign Gardner
- 23:17Speaker 5: Minshew or something like that, like we need to actually
- 23:19Speaker 5: make a move here at quarterback to Piese the owner,
- 23:22Speaker 5: and then you end up overdrafting somebody as a result.
- 23:25Speaker 5: I think cam Ward's more toolsy than Shaud or Sanders.
- 23:28Speaker 5: Ball jumps out of his hand, he's got a good arm,
- 23:30Speaker 5: and he's got some athleticism. But you know, just like
- 23:33Speaker 5: we talk about the receivers in this draft, like where
- 23:35Speaker 5: would cam Ward go last year? You know, probably somewhere
- 23:39Speaker 5: in that like bo Nick's territory, like maybe a quarterback four,
- 23:42Speaker 5: quarterback five, like somewhere around there, and that you have
- 23:45Speaker 5: to factor that in, Like you don't just reach on
- 23:48Speaker 5: players like that, and that's not good business. So you
- 23:52Speaker 5: have to factor that in.
- 23:53Speaker 9: Maybe seeing how things played out with like Darnold going
- 23:56Speaker 9: to Minnesota this year and Baker Mayfield kind of catching off,
- 24:00Speaker 9: like maybe that'll help teams kind of see like, you
- 24:03Speaker 9: know what, maybe we can just bring in a guy
- 24:05Speaker 9: that's bounced around in his a vet and then go
- 24:08Speaker 9: from there.
- 24:08Speaker 7: Yeah, I think like Justin Fields, and then get a
- 24:13Speaker 7: better other prospect. If it doesn't work, you're bad. Next
- 24:17Speaker 7: year you get a better quarterback.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I think that's going to be a lot of teams,
- 24:20Speaker 5: especially those teams at the top of the draft this year,
- 24:22Speaker 5: are going to be thinking that exact same thing of
- 24:25Speaker 5: can we get the next Baker Mayfield? Can we get
- 24:28Speaker 5: the next Sam Donald? Maybe even Sam Donald who's going
- 24:31Speaker 5: to be a free agent and.
- 24:32Speaker 7: He'll fold in the playoffs, but he got there, right.
- 24:36Speaker 5: Some of these teams are just looking for respectability, right
- 24:39Speaker 5: and just being relevant, and and the.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Vikings had that this year all season, and.
- 24:43Speaker 4: There's a buzz about the Vikings.
- 24:46Speaker 7: If you're the Browns and you could get Travis Hunter
- 24:48Speaker 7: and Justin Fields, I think I would take that over
- 24:51Speaker 7: developing cam Ward or.
- 24:55Speaker 4: I just think it's funny that we're we're always such
- 24:57Speaker 4: prisoner to what happened the last season, and so when
- 25:00Speaker 4: you get into the month of February, everyone always looks
- 25:02Speaker 4: back at what happened, who won the Super Bowl, who
- 25:05Speaker 4: had impressive years, and you know, like two or three
- 25:08Speaker 4: years ago, if we'd been like, well one of the
- 25:09Speaker 4: Patriots just gets Sam Darnold, like, because that wasn't the
- 25:11Speaker 4: narrative that offseason, everyone like he sucks, like Baker Mayland
- 25:14Speaker 4: he sucks, you know, like, But now that those guys
- 25:17Speaker 4: have actually had some success where they've you know, used
- 25:20Speaker 4: the experience that they've had in other places. I mean,
- 25:22Speaker 4: I'll be the first to tell you when we watched
- 25:24Speaker 4: Baker Mayfield out there on the practice off fields awful
- 25:27Speaker 4: with the Panthers, I was like, that guy is done.
- 25:29Speaker 5: They were both Carolina.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Not even to mention when I don't, right, yeah, not
- 25:33Speaker 4: even maybe that's the secret. You gotta go to Carolina
- 25:36Speaker 4: for year even that. But when Baker Mayfield was shre
- 25:38Speaker 4: with the Browns that one year, I was like, this
- 25:39Speaker 4: guy doesn't even want to play anymore. I don't know
- 25:41Speaker 4: who was worse, him or Jarvis Landery, like both those guys.
- 25:43Speaker 4: I'm like, these guys were good at one point. Uh So,
- 25:45Speaker 4: It's just it's funny how the that's how the narratives go,
- 25:48Speaker 4: and you know, that's what we're all talking about with
- 25:50Speaker 4: the Eagles now. And I mean maybe I'm then this
- 25:53Speaker 4: might be run. This is where we need Paul when
- 25:54Speaker 4: I like, I throw something out there and I'm like,
- 25:56Speaker 4: I might be wrong about this, and he'll always call
- 25:57Speaker 4: me out when I am wrong. But like the Eagles
- 26:00Speaker 4: the first time in a while, maybe not that they're
- 26:02Speaker 4: just the overall most talented team across the board won
- 26:05Speaker 4: the Super Bowl, like I generally would say, that doesn't happen,
- 26:08Speaker 4: Like it's always kind of the team that gets hot
- 26:10Speaker 4: and the team that's got the most front to back
- 26:13Speaker 4: talent overall doesn't usually win the Super Bowl. But I like,
- 26:17Speaker 4: in my mind and again, I wish Paul was here
- 26:19Speaker 4: to be like well in twenty nineteen, duce, so you're
- 26:21Speaker 4: forgetting this, like I'm sure I'm forgetting some of course,
- 26:23Speaker 4: the Rams were pretty talented back then, you know, a
- 26:25Speaker 4: couple of years ago. But I feel like this is
- 26:27Speaker 4: one of those ones where it's they kind of did
- 26:29Speaker 4: it the right way. You have examples of everything. You
- 26:31Speaker 4: have an AJ Brown trade, you've got a highly drafted
- 26:34Speaker 4: wide receiver, you got kind of a quarterback you didn't
- 26:37Speaker 4: take too high, and you kind of developed a little bit.
- 26:39Speaker 4: So maybe that that's where the.
- 26:41Speaker 7: Difference would say, Yes, aside from lines, if they were healthy,
- 26:44Speaker 7: I think they just got bit by the injury bug
- 26:46Speaker 7: and they could have overcome it at the end.
- 26:48Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean I would some of those Chiefs teams,
- 26:51Speaker 5: like the Tyreek Hill Chiefs teams were loaded, you know,
- 26:55Speaker 5: and those teams, yeah, were successful and a lot of
- 26:58Speaker 5: the time though, and this was sort of why I
- 27:01Speaker 5: picked Kansas City and the Super Bowl is that, you
- 27:03Speaker 5: know a lot of these Super Bowls come down to
- 27:05Speaker 5: one score games late in the fourth quarter, and if
- 27:08Speaker 5: you don't have the quarterback that can put the team
- 27:10Speaker 5: on his back and do it. And my Niners keep
- 27:13Speaker 5: losing in the Super Bowl to Patrick Mahomes because it's
- 27:16Speaker 5: a one score game, you know, in overtime or in
- 27:19Speaker 5: the quarter and then he just makes more plays than
- 27:22Speaker 5: Brock Perty or Jimmy Garoppolo. And I felt that that
- 27:24Speaker 5: was going to be potentially the way it went for Philly,
- 27:28Speaker 5: but their talent just completely dominated and they ran away
- 27:32Speaker 5: from Kansas City.
- 27:33Speaker 7: The interest the game would have been interesting. Of de
- 27:35Speaker 7: Hop caught that pass on the slant and like if
- 27:38Speaker 7: he ran that in for the touchdown, I think that
- 27:39Speaker 7: maybe could have changed the bar than that, I think
- 27:41Speaker 7: it was. It was a wash.
- 27:43Speaker 5: Speaking of the Super Bowl. I have to ask the
- 27:46Speaker 5: president of the Drake Fan Club, like, how are you doing? Like,
- 27:50Speaker 5: how are you doing? My friend?
- 27:52Speaker 7: His album drops in tomorrow in twelve hours and.
- 27:58Speaker 5: If a Tree falls into fourth.
- 28:00Speaker 7: And it wasn't that great? He like, out of all
- 28:03Speaker 7: his songs, he has some good songs, he didn't play
- 28:06Speaker 7: like any of his good ones.
- 28:07Speaker 5: That that's true. He did. I mean, I don't say
- 28:09Speaker 5: it was all about any of his good ones, but
- 28:12Speaker 5: I we talked about the set list on Tuesday. It
- 28:15Speaker 5: could have been better.
- 28:16Speaker 7: It could have been like Lessen, he could get into
- 28:18Speaker 7: the whole ins and outs of the beef, like I
- 28:19Speaker 7: just didn't think it was good take a beef aside, Like,
- 28:22Speaker 7: he has some very good songs and he didn't play them.
- 28:24Speaker 5: That's true. But one hundred and thirty three million people
- 28:26Speaker 5: watched Your Boy.
- 28:27Speaker 7: Yeah, but then it wasn't more people last year. The
- 28:29Speaker 7: numbers are all screened. It's twenty verst one in the industry.
- 28:32Speaker 4: I didn't know. I didn't know people like teas existed.
- 28:34Speaker 4: Like I thought people either just didn't get or the
- 28:37Speaker 4: guy it was only best side.
- 28:39Speaker 7: I fell asleep actually, But.
- 28:42Speaker 9: Honestly, based on some of the TikTok videos I saw
- 28:44Speaker 9: in the stand. I think some of the fans did
- 28:46Speaker 9: the Super Bowl to.
- 28:48Speaker 7: I don't know. It just wasn't that. Yeah, I've even
- 28:50Speaker 7: had some Kendrick fan could have been better.
- 28:53Speaker 4: I was.
- 28:54Speaker 5: I was disappointed in the moment. I was like, where
- 28:56Speaker 5: are my where's my you know o G songs here?
- 28:59Speaker 9: I just think you got to bring back pop stars
- 29:01Speaker 9: and rock bands and.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Like a medley where it's a few different out of
- 29:06Speaker 4: the past five.
- 29:07Speaker 7: This was the worst one.
- 29:09Speaker 4: I couldn't even name. I couldn't even Weekend was pretty bad,
- 29:13Speaker 4: was pretty bad. All I remember is Lady Ga jumping
- 29:15Speaker 4: off the roof.
- 29:16Speaker 3: For Katie Carry and was amazing.
- 29:25Speaker 7: Took it over.
- 29:27Speaker 11: It was.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Took it over, and then Coldplay was upset and they like.
- 29:32Speaker 3: But is that why Coldplay had two super Bowls? I think,
- 29:35Speaker 3: like a couple of years.
- 29:36Speaker 8: The greatest half time show was two years ago.
- 29:38Speaker 9: Eminem honestly the one with all the rappers.
- 29:42Speaker 5: Like but that's like des Point, Like doctor Dre is
- 29:45Speaker 5: obviously a producer, so he put together like a whole production.
- 29:48Speaker 7: And I think Drake would have put on a better show.
- 29:51Speaker 7: It would have been a way better show.
- 29:53Speaker 9: Better I think it's Kendrick just brought Lil Wayne and
- 29:55Speaker 9: it should have been been a little way.
- 29:57Speaker 3: And you can't, Like it was in New Orleans.
- 29:59Speaker 5: And that was watch though.
- 30:00Speaker 4: If Rick's on there, I'm glad we're getting this out
- 30:03Speaker 4: of the way without friend and Paul here, and I
- 30:05Speaker 4: like they'd be even more clueless than I. Actually, I
- 30:07Speaker 4: take that back, I'm more clueless than them with this,
- 30:09Speaker 4: especially Paul. He knows, he knows.
- 30:11Speaker 12: Well.
- 30:11Speaker 5: There's an email in there actually from yesterday that I
- 30:13Speaker 5: was so in the moment I was. I was very
- 30:16Speaker 5: upset about so I didn't even read it where the
- 30:20Speaker 5: emailer claimed that Paul knows more about Kendrick than I do,
- 30:23Speaker 5: and that was like, I was like, wait a second here,
- 30:26Speaker 5: Like Paul, I love Paul, but he will openly admit
- 30:29Speaker 5: that that is not his slants.
- 30:32Speaker 4: Yeah, well he did. Like we said, he drives with
- 30:33Speaker 4: his kids and his kids listen, so he picked it
- 30:35Speaker 4: up by osmosis a little bit. And my kids aren't
- 30:38Speaker 4: quite there yet. So I know nothing. I know nothing,
- 30:40Speaker 4: but I'm learning. I had to make me a mixtape.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Do you guys still make mixtapes for people? Is that
- 30:45Speaker 4: a thing?
- 30:49Speaker 7: Burn CD is.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Recently and it was awesome.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Yeah. So one of the part of the email too
- 30:58Speaker 5: was you know Section eighty, which is Kendrick's first album.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Real Kendrick fans consider it a mixtape because it was free.
- 31:08Speaker 5: It was a free download on that pif that was
- 31:12Speaker 5: released back in the days. Yeah, and then once it
- 31:15Speaker 5: blew up, they put it on iTunes and Spotify and
- 31:19Speaker 5: all those places. But technically it's a studio album, but
- 31:23Speaker 5: it's definitely a mixtape.
- 31:25Speaker 9: But there was nothing from that, nothing from Good Kid,
- 31:27Speaker 9: Mad City, like swimming Pools right there for you Don't
- 31:31Speaker 9: Kill My Vibe. That's probably my favorite one Money Trees
- 31:34Speaker 9: like and like I'm the type of Kendrick fan that,
- 31:38Speaker 9: like I would want to see like Ronald Reagan era
- 31:41Speaker 9: or like a crazy deep cut song like that.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, just but it was just all the recent album.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he was trying to promote his tour,
- 31:53Speaker 5: but that's not what a Super Bowl spots. Yeah, I agree. No,
- 31:56Speaker 5: there could have been do that at Gillette this summer.
- 31:59Speaker 7: Nobody will be there so it literally has already sold out.
- 32:02Speaker 4: My tis after that, well, hey to Patriots, if you
- 32:06Speaker 4: want to see Toyota's best offers, including those not seen
- 32:09Speaker 4: on TV. Go to buy at toyota dot com. It's
- 32:11Speaker 4: Toyota's official website for deals from the official vehicle of
- 32:13Speaker 4: the New England Patriots, Toyota Let's Go Places. And of
- 32:16Speaker 4: course it's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. Bud
- 32:19Speaker 4: Like the official beer sponsor of the New England Patriots.
- 32:21Speaker 4: But Like will also be sponsoring our Draft countdown show,
- 32:24Speaker 4: which will be starting live from Indianapolis in two weeks.
- 32:28Speaker 4: And I know the NFL just released the full list
- 32:31Speaker 4: of all the prospects, and Evan is of course digging
- 32:33Speaker 4: on and I've been jumping into and we'll get teas
- 32:35Speaker 4: on there. I know you and Chris Will Chris Cassie
- 32:38Speaker 4: would point out, you guys did the Madden sim this year,
- 32:40Speaker 4: a nice addition to our video content. What was what
- 32:44Speaker 4: was it like this year if you jumping into doing
- 32:46Speaker 4: the Maddensions?
- 32:46Speaker 7: It was fun, It was awesome. I think Week one
- 32:48Speaker 7: was the best just because we were one point off.
- 32:50Speaker 7: But I mean it's tough when the team starts. Yeah,
- 32:53Speaker 7: it's just tough when the team's like not doing that well.
- 32:55Speaker 7: And like, you know, those last couple of weeks were
- 32:56Speaker 7: a grind, but it's always fun and we have some
- 32:58Speaker 7: surprises for next year, so keep it going.
- 33:01Speaker 4: I thought the great thing was when you guys did
- 33:02Speaker 4: the throwback to the two thousand and five Madam, which
- 33:04Speaker 4: I actually played a little bit myself.
- 33:06Speaker 7: That one. I mean, I think, yeah, oh, five is
- 33:09Speaker 7: the best man of all time?
- 33:10Speaker 5: So which one is the one with Michael Vick on
- 33:11Speaker 5: the cover?
- 33:12Speaker 7: Four?
- 33:12Speaker 5: That's four?
- 33:13Speaker 7: Five brought in the hit stick. That's the best, Okay,
- 33:16Speaker 7: I do.
- 33:16Speaker 5: The only thing I didn't like is when Madden brought
- 33:18Speaker 5: in the QB vision.
- 33:19Speaker 7: Remember that that was six or seven.
- 33:20Speaker 5: I didn't like that. Didn't care for it.
- 33:23Speaker 13: No.
- 33:23Speaker 7: Five was great, And it's funny because I remember playing
- 33:25Speaker 7: that as a kid, and I would get up to
- 33:26Speaker 7: like twenty twenty five.
- 33:27Speaker 4: And that's what I was just gonna say, right Like
- 33:29Speaker 4: that was like I would always I would always sim
- 33:31Speaker 4: seasons and I would have like the twenty twenty five Patriots.
- 33:33Speaker 4: It would be filled with players that did not even exist,
- 33:36Speaker 4: and then I draft somebody. Then he'd be like, you
- 33:38Speaker 4: know whatever, like a ninety nine rating. I'd trade him
- 33:40Speaker 4: for another first round pick and just you know, the
- 33:42Speaker 4: cycle continues. Was it fun?
- 33:43Speaker 5: I don't know. I was blowing team left and right.
- 33:45Speaker 4: But it was cool though.
- 33:47Speaker 7: Stats Drake May started off as a seventy something. He's
- 33:50Speaker 7: just like progressing because at live updates throughout the season,
- 33:52Speaker 7: and then like you know, he's all of a sudden
- 33:54Speaker 7: eighty nine speed and he's tugging and running. So that's
- 33:57Speaker 7: what happens.
- 33:59Speaker 5: I always remember like playing Madden and then like Brady
- 34:02Speaker 5: would retire, he'd be.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Like, no year I started doing that, like twenty twelve.
- 34:07Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:09Speaker 5: It would always be like hey, coach, and you would
- 34:11Speaker 5: like come into like this Brady, like you know, video
- 34:14Speaker 5: game version would be like you.
- 34:15Speaker 4: Just find another ninety nine QB somewhere, so some random
- 34:18Speaker 4: guy right.
- 34:19Speaker 7: Change with with Peyton Manning and the five one is
- 34:22Speaker 7: that they would always have him doing his Cadence and Audibling.
- 34:24Speaker 7: So it was like the longest sim ever because he's
- 34:26Speaker 7: taking thirty seconds every play.
- 34:28Speaker 4: The funny thing was I would come into like I
- 34:30Speaker 4: think it was maybe you guys shot it before we
- 34:32Speaker 4: did the previewing here, and the guys would be doing
- 34:35Speaker 4: the Madden sim in here and you guys were just
- 34:37Speaker 4: watching it happen as it did so many crazy we
- 34:40Speaker 4: did it.
- 34:40Speaker 7: We did it one take every single time, so tried
- 34:43Speaker 7: to keep it as true as possible. But I'm excited
- 34:45Speaker 7: for a man twenty.
- 34:46Speaker 4: People accuse you guys of like breaking it.
- 34:47Speaker 7: Oh all the time, all the time, but we kept
- 34:50Speaker 7: it one take every time, just like the Chiefs. The
- 34:52Speaker 7: only time we did we would we would do two
- 34:54Speaker 7: was like a last second QB change, which happened a
- 34:57Speaker 7: couple of times. But right are than that?
- 34:59Speaker 4: What was the final record of them Madden sim Patriots.
- 35:01Speaker 7: Eight and nine? I think there much better?
- 35:05Speaker 4: How many wins do.
- 35:05Speaker 7: They have there?
- 35:07Speaker 4: We go hopefully this year? Well, let's let's jump over
- 35:10Speaker 4: to the tp X hotline. Our phones were a little
- 35:12Speaker 4: wonky last week, but we think we've we've got them
- 35:14Speaker 4: fixed and uh, Matt, Matt's giving me double the doubles listening.
- 35:18Speaker 9: You're like, hello, Patty, you there, and you can hear
- 35:21Speaker 9: Patty Patty was getting.
- 35:23Speaker 4: You held up at gun point like you heard some
- 35:25Speaker 4: guy like yelling at I don't I don't know what
- 35:26Speaker 4: was going on with that one, but U. But let's
- 35:28Speaker 4: let's jump up there to our neighbors in the North
- 35:31Speaker 4: Seawan and Vancouver. Hey, Sean, congrats on a nice win
- 35:34Speaker 4: by your team Canada. I don't know if you watched
- 35:35Speaker 4: that one last night with the what is the Nation's
- 35:38Speaker 4: tournament or Nations tournament?
- 35:39Speaker 5: Hey Shaw?
- 35:41Speaker 11: Thanks?
- 35:41Speaker 15: Yeah, No, I'm not a hockey guy crip in Montreal,
- 35:45Speaker 15: and I had to leave because I don't speak French
- 35:48Speaker 15: or play hockey, so they kicked me out.
- 35:51Speaker 4: But so you're the one.
- 35:54Speaker 15: Yeah, I have quite a bit to to say about
- 35:58Speaker 15: Super Bowl. Just off the back, my favorite commercial was
- 36:01Speaker 15: the Dura Cell one. I just love that that line
- 36:03Speaker 15: about the rose that that was really funny. But onto
- 36:08Speaker 15: what the Patriot takeaways from this game? The main thing
- 36:12Speaker 15: I took away was the trenches. I mean, yeah, Mahome
- 36:16Speaker 15: had a bad game, you know, Yeah, he's even like
- 36:19Speaker 15: with no pressure. He made mistakes, he threw an interception
- 36:22Speaker 15: with he had time in the pocket and and and
- 36:25Speaker 15: but I think like really like even from early in
- 36:27Speaker 15: the game, he had like happy feet. He's dancing around
- 36:32Speaker 15: because of that format pressure or even three man pressure,
- 36:35Speaker 15: like they kept like for the first three quarters the
- 36:38Speaker 15: Eagles got I think around forty six pressure ray uh
- 36:42Speaker 15: and that just just got it got to him and
- 36:45Speaker 15: that that was a big thing. And on the other
- 36:48Speaker 15: side of the ball. The Chiefs sold out to stop Barkley,
- 36:54Speaker 15: and that's why the Hurts looked pretty good. You took
- 36:59Speaker 15: taking advantage of single coverage both times against Watson, who
- 37:03Speaker 15: look good to the previous games when they played the
- 37:06Speaker 15: Bills and the Texans. But in that game, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 15: he's got no help and even Dawson is beating him.
- 37:13Speaker 15: So that's that's the thing. When you can win and
- 37:17Speaker 15: have those monster just great players on the trench, just
- 37:23Speaker 15: like on the offensive line and defensive line, that just
- 37:25Speaker 15: makes all the difference in the world. And I think
- 37:27Speaker 15: that's what the Patriot should take away from this is, Hey,
- 37:30Speaker 15: you know what we really really need to focus. We
- 37:32Speaker 15: need to get a pass rush, We need to get
- 37:34Speaker 15: a nose tackle, We need to get the tackles that
- 37:37Speaker 15: can play and maybe a guard and just like just
- 37:40Speaker 15: beep up that and protect Drake May and make sure
- 37:44Speaker 15: that the quarterbacks are not comfortable.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So that's my ticket.
- 37:48Speaker 15: I'll let you guys comment on that. Thanks.
- 37:50Speaker 4: Thanks Sean. I guess it's for me. Like the one
- 37:52Speaker 4: thing is I feel like Kansas City has tried a
- 37:55Speaker 4: lot to get their offensive line in shape, and they
- 37:57Speaker 4: have a lot of really good pieces. I mean, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 4: Creed humph and Joe Tooney and Tray Smith really well respected,
- 38:03Speaker 4: and the tackle position has just been a problem for
- 38:05Speaker 4: them and injuries have heard, but they've tried to draft,
- 38:07Speaker 4: They've drafted guys that we like, and it's like, as
- 38:11Speaker 4: much as you know, and I totally get Sean's point,
- 38:13Speaker 4: but at the same time, it's like even the best
- 38:15Speaker 4: laid plans, there's no guarantee that it's going to carry
- 38:17Speaker 4: you through three or four games in the playoffs. And
- 38:20Speaker 4: that's a problem for them. And you know, if they
- 38:22Speaker 4: had played better, would we still be saying the same
- 38:24Speaker 4: thing about you know, Philly's defensive line. I mean, the
- 38:26Speaker 4: Patriots and O seven had a pretty good offensive line too,
- 38:28Speaker 4: with you know, Logan Mankins and Matt Laighton, guys that
- 38:31Speaker 4: we all believed in, and then they got to the
- 38:32Speaker 4: Super Bowl and they just didn't have it that day,
- 38:34Speaker 4: you know. I mean, I know one of them, Logan Banks,
- 38:36Speaker 4: had an ACL tear, which God bless him. But you know,
- 38:39Speaker 4: I just I get what he's saying. I just I
- 38:41Speaker 4: just tie it back to we always kind of overreact
- 38:43Speaker 4: to what exactly happened in one specific game and I
- 38:46Speaker 4: respect the hell out of Philly's defensive front.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Yeah no, I hear what you're saying. And a lot
- 38:51Speaker 5: of what Philly did on the offensive line. It goes
- 38:56Speaker 5: back to coaching too. You know, Jeff Stallin's one of
- 38:58Speaker 5: the best offensive line coaches maybe of all time. Not
- 39:01Speaker 5: be because we you know that guy coached here, but
- 39:04Speaker 5: he you know, he's in the conversation. He's on the
- 39:06Speaker 5: Mount rushmore and you know, he takes a guy like
- 39:08Speaker 5: Jordan Mylotta, who is a rugby player that gets drafted
- 39:11Speaker 5: in on like the seventh round, and he turns him
- 39:14Speaker 5: into one of the best left tackles in football. You know,
- 39:16Speaker 5: he takes Makai Beckton, turns him into a guard, and
- 39:19Speaker 5: all of a sudden he's like a really good guard
- 39:22Speaker 5: for Philly last year. So you know, to your point,
- 39:25Speaker 5: like drafting and developing talent on the roster is such
- 39:29Speaker 5: a big part of this whole conversation. And Kansas City,
- 39:32Speaker 5: you know, the draft Kingsley, Sue Mattia and Wanya Morris
- 39:35Speaker 5: and like all these other guys and they just haven't hit,
- 39:37Speaker 5: like they haven't been able to hit at that position.
- 39:39Speaker 5: So it's it's one thing to it's the obvious takeaway
- 39:43Speaker 5: is that the trenches or why Philly is dominant. But
- 39:47Speaker 5: to build what they built is easier said than done.
- 39:50Speaker 4: It's so hard. I mean, like the Patriots, that's I mean,
- 39:53Speaker 4: I think a lot of us would say offensive line,
- 39:55Speaker 4: offensive tackle is the biggest priority of this offseason. Just
- 39:58Speaker 4: you got to figure out a way to get that right.
- 40:00Speaker 4: And I think Kansas City and probably a number of
- 40:02Speaker 4: other teams are saying the exact same thing. So all
- 40:04Speaker 4: these guys are gonna have so much competition. It's just
- 40:07Speaker 4: it's it's so hard. I mean, I know, you have
- 40:09Speaker 4: a rant evan about any any to any any tackle
- 40:13Speaker 4: that comes in the combine, and he's probably a guard.
- 40:15Speaker 5: I mean every single one, every single one like you're reading,
- 40:19Speaker 5: like Kelvin Banks is now probably a guard. Like he's
- 40:22Speaker 5: gonna have like thirty five inch arms and he's he's
- 40:24Speaker 5: gonna be a guard. But that to your point of
- 40:26Speaker 5: you know, a lot of teams are looking for tackle
- 40:28Speaker 5: play like this is part of the reason why I
- 40:31Speaker 5: am seriously considering Will Campbell at four because when you
- 40:34Speaker 5: get back to thirty eight, like all the guys that
- 40:36Speaker 5: people think might be there, like I don't know if
- 40:39Speaker 5: they're gonna be there, Like Josh Simmons, you know, Jordan,
- 40:41Speaker 5: Josh Connolly, Like these guys could all get drafted very
- 40:46Speaker 5: easily at the end of the first round by all
- 40:48Speaker 5: these teams that are just looking for, you know, tackles
- 40:52Speaker 5: all over the place, Kansas City, San Francisco. Uh, you know,
- 40:56Speaker 5: go down the list and are these guys gonna fly
- 40:59Speaker 5: off the board? You know, is a tackle at thirty
- 41:01Speaker 5: eight and to be a player that can step in
- 41:02Speaker 5: and play right away, Like, I have serious doubts that
- 41:04Speaker 5: that's going to be the case. And now you're talking
- 41:06Speaker 5: about trading back up or like trying to get creative
- 41:10Speaker 5: in turn, trying to split the atom at a position
- 41:12Speaker 5: that you feel I feel like you've been doing that
- 41:14Speaker 5: for years at this point of like trying to to
- 41:17Speaker 5: thread the needle at tackle instead of just addressing it
- 41:20Speaker 5: head on.
- 41:20Speaker 4: It's like overvaluing the quarterback position. Do we start overvaluing
- 41:23Speaker 4: tackles a little bit? When you know you just say, look,
- 41:25Speaker 4: it's it's maybe we're overdrafting this guy a little bit,
- 41:27Speaker 4: but so vital there is no supply, Yeah, demand is
- 41:32Speaker 4: super high. We have a chance at this guy I
- 41:35Speaker 4: just I think this is one case though, where I'd
- 41:37Speaker 4: really like to get one answer in free agency, one
- 41:40Speaker 4: answer in free agency, not have to go into the
- 41:42Speaker 4: draft being like, we got a big, fat hole at
- 41:45Speaker 4: left tackle and we need Will Campbell or whoever to
- 41:48Speaker 4: fill it, and we might get screwed if we don't.
- 41:50Speaker 4: So it's great debate. We'll have plenty of talk for it.
- 41:53Speaker 4: And fortunately I don't think we'll see the offensive lineman
- 41:57Speaker 4: at the combine, but plenty attention going to them. Let's
- 42:01Speaker 4: go back to the phones again, John la longtime listener. Hey, John,
- 42:05Speaker 4: thanks for calling in.
- 42:06Speaker 16: Hey is going good, good, good good.
- 42:10Speaker 17: I have a couple of quick drafts things that are
- 42:13Speaker 17: oddly specific that I just thought it might you know,
- 42:17Speaker 17: first in conversation, if the Patriots were to trade out
- 42:20Speaker 17: of the top six team I select a non lineman
- 42:23Speaker 17: in round one, who do you guys take?
- 42:26Speaker 4: I like Luther Burden, Thanks Sean.
- 42:30Speaker 5: So if non linemen, I look at those tight ends, like,
- 42:35Speaker 5: if you're not going to go with an offensive lineman
- 42:37Speaker 5: or defensive lineman, Tyler Warren, Colson Lovelin like those two
- 42:41Speaker 5: guys to me are the best playmakers in the draft
- 42:44Speaker 5: outside of outside of Travis Hunter. If he's going to
- 42:47Speaker 5: play receiver, which we can talk about. The combine invites
- 42:51Speaker 5: listed to him as a as a defensive back, so
- 42:53Speaker 5: at least the NFL is trying to push him on
- 42:55Speaker 5: to the defensive side of the ball. But I would
- 42:57Speaker 5: look at those tight ends. I like Luther Burden a
- 42:59Speaker 5: lot too. My kind of guy. You're kind of like
- 43:01Speaker 5: Zay Flowers ish, you know, explosive player, good with the
- 43:04Speaker 5: ball in his hands, it gets open. Definitely the type
- 43:07Speaker 5: of receiver I tend to gravitate towards. I just wonder
- 43:10Speaker 5: if he's gonna be caught in that like no man's
- 43:12Speaker 5: land between four and thirty eight, you know, somewhere early twenties,
- 43:15Speaker 5: late teens, and it's like, you know, how do you
- 43:17Speaker 5: really get your hands on that player in the right
- 43:20Speaker 5: range of the draft. So I anticipate a lot of
- 43:22Speaker 5: those guys similar to the class a couple of years
- 43:24Speaker 5: ago with JSN and Flowers and Addison and Quentin Johnson
- 43:28Speaker 5: all kind of going in a run. I would have
- 43:30Speaker 5: think that, you know, Luther Burden, Bouka, Matthew Golden, like
- 43:36Speaker 5: those guys I would anticipate are all going to kind
- 43:38Speaker 5: of go in the twenties and fly off the board there,
- 43:41Speaker 5: So you're gonna have to position yourself to get him.
- 43:44Speaker 5: But I do like Luther Burdon a lot.
- 43:46Speaker 7: I think Travis Hunter. But like do said, it just
- 43:48Speaker 7: depends what you're doing free agency. Like if you're able
- 43:50Speaker 7: to get a receiver like then let's change the strategy there.
- 43:55Speaker 7: So it all just depends what you do.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I throw Walker and Williams from Georgia
- 43:59Speaker 4: in the mix a little bit. I mean, I just
- 44:00Speaker 4: think those Georgia guys up front, and you got big
- 44:03Speaker 4: needs on defense. I could see, I mean I think
- 44:04Speaker 4: it said a Tuesday, I mean, not that it's gonna happen,
- 44:07Speaker 4: but you could see them literally plugging those two guys
- 44:09Speaker 4: into the starting lineup immediately in you know, in two positions.
- 44:12Speaker 4: So but yeah, lots to consider there on the draft.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Of course, that's what we'll be doing for the next
- 44:17Speaker 4: few months. Let's head uh up to Portland. Believe it's
- 44:20Speaker 4: maybe out to Portland, Oregon, maybe up north to Portland,
- 44:23Speaker 4: Maine to Justin, Hey, Justin, Hey.
- 44:25Speaker 11: What's up, guys. This is actly Chester and Portland.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Old long time caller, all right, one of the wanted
- 44:31Speaker 1: to chime in. Nice job holding things down with out
- 44:34Speaker 1: the old guys in the booth today. Cant can't imagine
- 44:38Speaker 1: what's on their mind if they happened to Madam Finn's
- 44:42Speaker 1: and halftime shows. What sure has evolved? Actually ran into
- 44:46Speaker 1: Fred when he was here in Arizona, and Uh we
- 44:49Speaker 1: were talking about trying to make the show.
- 44:51Speaker 11: Younger and clairly we're making strides there.
- 44:53Speaker 12: But.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Some more than others.
- 44:57Speaker 1: A couple of things have been on my mind. U,
- 45:00Speaker 1: you were absolutely spot on Cooper to Gen what what
- 45:02Speaker 1: a balan?
- 45:04Speaker 13: Uh?
- 45:04Speaker 1: This great player? When he made that six six, I
- 45:06Speaker 1: thought he right away is like Mandu just called that
- 45:08Speaker 1: all the way back in the draft time. A couple
- 45:12Speaker 1: couple of things on my mind that's kind of aggravating me,
- 45:15Speaker 1: This minitary discussion with past nation. There's so much, so
- 45:19Speaker 1: many fans that are just a poult with him not
- 45:20Speaker 1: getting in first ballot, and you know, I feel like
- 45:23Speaker 1: the guys that got in, for.
- 45:24Speaker 11: The most part, were pretty deserving.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I have no doubt he'll get back in, but you know,
- 45:28Speaker 1: it's just I had to deal with a lot of
- 45:30Speaker 1: argument back and forth.
- 45:31Speaker 11: That's you know that's.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Taking place, and I feel like, you know, kickers, they
- 45:36Speaker 1: play a fraction and that of the snaps of these
- 45:38Speaker 1: these other guys, and you know, if that was doing,
- 45:40Speaker 1: but you know, I think we need to pump the
- 45:41Speaker 1: brakes on, you know, being appalled on him not getting
- 45:44Speaker 1: in on the first ballot, first run. The second thing
- 45:48Speaker 1: is this Brady just Brady mahomes goat conversation, kind of
- 45:51Speaker 1: surprised at how insecure pastination is about the ammunition that was,
- 45:56Speaker 1: you know, really set into that week going into the
- 45:58Speaker 1: super Bowl and.
- 45:58Speaker 11: The clear clear now you know.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Who the king is here. But you know, I think
- 46:02Speaker 1: we need to have a little bit more stock in
- 46:04Speaker 1: that twenty years of greatness and and realize that that
- 46:07Speaker 1: no one's gonna touch this guy, no matter how good
- 46:09Speaker 1: they are. You know, Brady is the absolute king. And
- 46:12Speaker 1: you know that was just a nice silver lining to
- 46:14Speaker 1: that super Bowl. And then lastly, you know, the blueprint
- 46:18Speaker 1: is getting getting the trenches resolved.
- 46:20Speaker 11: You know, we want to get.
- 46:21Speaker 1: The best players there, but we've got to get the
- 46:24Speaker 1: trenches addressed. And clearly Philly was case in point with
- 46:27Speaker 1: a lot of that is they just they won that
- 46:29Speaker 1: game right there in the trenches. And I think that's
- 46:32Speaker 1: the big direction is we're all feeling pretty optimistic about
- 46:35Speaker 1: you know, where we're going now with Grabel at the Helm.
- 46:38Speaker 1: But those are really my points today. A big shout
- 46:40Speaker 1: out to the PFW Elite crew, Sean and Johnny from
- 46:44Speaker 1: LA both guys, you know, long time listeners.
- 46:46Speaker 11: And I just wanted to give a shout.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Also to the old school college pushing Chrystals to t
- 46:51Speaker 1: I N. Melvin, Eldrid Patty from Aguam.
- 46:54Speaker 11: He's got in Chicago. We need to hear more from
- 46:57Speaker 11: you guys, and let's bring the show back. Let's go
- 47:00Speaker 11: past great.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Great thanks chesster appreciate it. Yeah, that's a real quick
- 47:05Speaker 4: That's why I give Alex a shout out for the newsletter.
- 47:06Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like, you know, trying to take
- 47:08Speaker 4: not only those old callers and people who have been
- 47:10Speaker 4: you know, part of the show forever, but you know,
- 47:12Speaker 4: trying to bring even new listeners in and and really
- 47:14Speaker 4: trying to build that community. So they'll be out tomorrow,
- 47:16Speaker 4: So make sure you sign up for the newsletter.
- 47:18Speaker 3: A good one.
- 47:19Speaker 4: Yeah, Alex was giggling.
- 47:25Speaker 5: And want me to see but you know what, just
- 47:29Speaker 5: to the call real quick though. I'm going to defend
- 47:32Speaker 5: the ball like in every Patriots fansion with him, I
- 47:35Speaker 5: am not like do you all last week we had
- 47:37Speaker 5: to listen to Patrick mahomes Is in the conversation it's
- 47:40Speaker 5: not even close, and don't listen to Paul. They weren't
- 47:43Speaker 5: talking about oh, his first seven seasons versus Brady's. No,
- 47:46Speaker 5: they were saying that if mahomes three peated that he
- 47:49Speaker 5: had a conversation or had a seat at the table,
- 47:51Speaker 5: is the greatest of all time. And he's not even
- 47:53Speaker 5: close yet. So Patriots fans, take your victory lap and stand.
- 47:57Speaker 7: Your ground with Evan. We literally have the answer to
- 48:00Speaker 7: if mj and Lebron played like they literally played in
- 48:02Speaker 7: the finals, and like Brady won and then he stole
- 48:05Speaker 7: another ring off his finger. It's just very frustrating.
- 48:07Speaker 3: Well that's what it is.
- 48:08Speaker 9: It's frustration because we feel like it's such like a
- 48:11Speaker 9: low iq just media fodder argument, right like just like
- 48:15Speaker 9: Jordan versus lebron Is. And but it's so frustrating to
- 48:20Speaker 9: have to hear and be subjected to so it does
- 48:23Speaker 9: rile you up.
- 48:24Speaker 3: So I agree with both hands.
- 48:25Speaker 7: There's been no scandals, like just nothing like it's been
- 48:29Speaker 7: smooth sailing for them. They get brock Party who decides
- 48:31Speaker 7: to lay an egg in the Super Bowl Jimmy g
- 48:33Speaker 7: throws a duck in the last play of the game, Like,
- 48:36Speaker 7: come on, we had four acts of God or three
- 48:38Speaker 7: acts of God to beat Tom Brady. Yeah, and it's
- 48:40Speaker 7: just it's very frustrating. So I'm with Evan on this.
- 48:43Speaker 5: I also disagree with him on Adam and Erry, Like
- 48:45Speaker 5: what more does a kicker could possibly do? He's got
- 48:49Speaker 5: the most points in NFL history, the most field goals
- 48:52Speaker 5: in NFL history, the most the hardest, the most clutch
- 48:55Speaker 5: kicks in NFL history.
- 48:57Speaker 7: Can't I him?
- 48:57Speaker 5: So if he's not going to make the Hall of Fame,
- 48:59Speaker 5: then a kicker should never make the Hall of Fame.
- 49:01Speaker 5: And I'm sure he'll get in eventually, but I think
- 49:03Speaker 5: the frustration for me is that, oh, there's favoritism to
- 49:07Speaker 5: certain franchises with the Hall of Fame that these voters
- 49:11Speaker 5: just typically gravitate towards, like the Packers, the Steelers, the Cowboys,
- 49:16Speaker 5: Like it's the same teams over and over again that
- 49:18Speaker 5: always get their guys through, even if it's not in
- 49:20Speaker 5: a timely fashion. They like always get like Sterling Sharp
- 49:24Speaker 5: getting in, Like good player, but like, is he really
- 49:27Speaker 5: you know a guy that oh thank god he got in. No,
- 49:30Speaker 5: but he was a Green Bay packer, you know, and
- 49:32Speaker 5: he was successful with the Packers. So eventually that type
- 49:35Speaker 5: of guy is going to get in. And until the
- 49:36Speaker 5: Patriots dynasty is on par with the other dynasties, the
- 49:41Speaker 5: great dynasties in terms of volume of Hall of Famers,
- 49:44Speaker 5: I'm going to continue to be pissed off about it.
- 49:46Speaker 4: He also tackled herschel Walker, which I think would be
- 49:49Speaker 4: a great Hall of Fame video highlight to put up
- 49:51Speaker 4: there of not just a kicker, but a football player.
- 49:54Speaker 4: And one other thing I would say is Bill Belichick
- 49:56Speaker 4: talking about that two thousand and one season called out
- 49:58Speaker 4: in Vinitarry their best player, you know, the best, our
- 50:01Speaker 4: best player was going to try to make that last kick.
- 50:03Speaker 4: I think that speaks volumes, So I absolutely it would
- 50:06Speaker 4: have been a nice way for the NFL to send
- 50:07Speaker 4: a message and be like, look, kickers get some disrespect,
- 50:10Speaker 4: but this guy is the greatest kicker for a variety
- 50:12Speaker 4: of reasons, not just the volume played a long time,
- 50:15Speaker 4: guess he picked up some stats, but also just the
- 50:17Speaker 4: quality of the kicks. I mean, you know, I don't
- 50:20Speaker 4: have to tell the stories again about him hitting that
- 50:22Speaker 4: kick in two thousand and one where Paul said you
- 50:23Speaker 4: couldn't even see the other end of the stadium the
- 50:26Speaker 4: snow is coming down so hard. I mean, it's just
- 50:28Speaker 4: those two kicks. Crazy. So I'm sure he'll get in.
- 50:31Speaker 4: I think it was what he surpassed the.
- 50:32Speaker 3: Voting the voters with AI.
- 50:35Speaker 5: He'll definitely get in, And so I understand the point
- 50:38Speaker 5: of that. But it's not just vinitary, Like they can't
- 50:41Speaker 5: even get Rodney in and they can't even get him
- 50:43Speaker 5: as a finalist this year, like he's not even on
- 50:46Speaker 5: the ballot to get in. You know, guys like Teddy Bruce,
- 50:49Speaker 5: say Vince, like those guys would all be if those
- 50:54Speaker 5: were nineteen seventies Pittsburgh Steelers, they would have walked into
- 50:57Speaker 5: the Hall of Fame. And now that with the Patriots,
- 50:59Speaker 5: it's like, we can't let those guys in. So, uh,
- 51:02Speaker 5: this goes right up my butt. I have a real
- 51:04Speaker 5: issue with the Hall of Fame. I really just like
- 51:07Speaker 5: cannot stand the Hall of Fame. I can't stand the voters.
- 51:11Speaker 5: I can't stand the process.
- 51:12Speaker 7: Love it.
- 51:12Speaker 5: They have absolutely no transparency whatsoever. We have no idea
- 51:17Speaker 5: who's voting and who's voting for what, And it's just
- 51:20Speaker 5: a it's an absolute joke. I'm sorry.
- 51:24Speaker 7: I would have lost my mind.
- 51:25Speaker 4: That's true. So back to the TPX hotline here with
- 51:28Speaker 4: Eric in New Jersey hair.
- 51:31Speaker 11: Hey, how you guys doing good?
- 51:34Speaker 16: I got just two I'm just to speak on two
- 51:36Speaker 16: players here. I know we talked about very well. Is
- 51:38Speaker 16: the culture that he wants to bring in and you know,
- 51:40Speaker 16: you guys, I know you guys even mentioned you know,
- 51:42Speaker 16: Kendrick bourde as a you know, the culture guy here.
- 51:45Speaker 16: But I just don't I just see the dis can
- 51:48Speaker 16: I understand his teammates, players love them, but for him
- 51:50Speaker 16: to be the you know, quote unquote number one and
- 51:53Speaker 16: you know, that leader in that room for a guy
- 51:55Speaker 16: that put a nine year better and that was continuously
- 51:58Speaker 16: out of position, you know, even him in and you
- 52:00Speaker 16: know postgame conferences, you know he's in the wrong spot.
- 52:03Speaker 16: He's in the wrong place. How is he supposed to
- 52:05Speaker 16: be a guy that's supposed to be looked at?
- 52:07Speaker 11: You're going to bring the.
- 52:08Speaker 16: Young guys into this you know, organization into that room,
- 52:10Speaker 16: and this is the guy that you know, cannot you know,
- 52:14Speaker 16: cannot run, you know, run the right route, get to
- 52:16Speaker 16: the right spot. You know, kind of just want to
- 52:18Speaker 16: speak on that. And then Christian Barmore, I think he's
- 52:21Speaker 16: somewhat of a mythical dragon. You know, I love I
- 52:24Speaker 16: love him. You know, year three was great. Obviously his
- 52:26Speaker 16: past year with injuries, I mean, with his health concerns,
- 52:28Speaker 16: but I mean he really have one one and a
- 52:31Speaker 16: half seasons of production, and we're you know, we're glamoring that.
- 52:34Speaker 16: You know, defensive tackle isn't quite a need. And I'm
- 52:37Speaker 16: not saying Mason Graham is the you know, the answer,
- 52:39Speaker 16: but I think we need a little bit more attention
- 52:41Speaker 16: brought to that position.
- 52:42Speaker 11: And I'll take it off the.
- 52:43Speaker 5: Line and thank god, thanks Eric.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Uh Yeah, I think Christian Barber is one of the
- 52:47Speaker 4: great unknowns of this offseason. And certainly, you know, if
- 52:50Speaker 4: you were to find out in May, oh, by the way,
- 52:52Speaker 4: Christian Barber can't play, and you had passed on Mason Graham,
- 52:54Speaker 4: maybe you know, that might look a little bit different.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Hoping that he's able to come back. I think it's
- 52:59Speaker 4: a key part. I think he fits the new style
- 53:01Speaker 4: of defense that we believe they're gonna play. But he's
- 53:06Speaker 4: a key part. He's a key part of it. And
- 53:07Speaker 4: it's hard to imagine this. You know, you feel like
- 53:09Speaker 4: you've already got one of the pieces on the defensive
- 53:12Speaker 4: line that you know, the previous caller talked about trying
- 53:14Speaker 4: to build that type of offense or defensive line that's
- 53:17Speaker 4: so disruptive, and that's what Christian Barmore is when he's
- 53:19Speaker 4: at his best. I just think for the Patriots defense
- 53:22Speaker 4: to really take a step forward this year, they need
- 53:24Speaker 4: Christian Barmore. It's hard to build from the bottom up
- 53:26Speaker 4: with really nothing if you don't have him.
- 53:28Speaker 5: Yeah, I think maybe we're not giving enough airtime to
- 53:33Speaker 5: the defensive line, but I feel like we are. Like
- 53:35Speaker 5: I feel like we talk about it all the time,
- 53:37Speaker 5: and it's not just defensive tackles. You know, we talk
- 53:39Speaker 5: about guys on the edge too, you know, Abdul Carter,
- 53:42Speaker 5: we talked about Mike Green in the last show.
- 53:44Speaker 4: You know, I skirtin.
- 53:46Speaker 5: It's a big, big need, you know, it's a big need.
- 53:50Speaker 5: Especially I would say like true defensive ends that can
- 53:53Speaker 5: play all three downs, that are all purpose players, that
- 53:56Speaker 5: can hold up against the run and can rush the passer.
- 53:59Speaker 5: They don't they seem to have gotten into that Belichick like,
- 54:03Speaker 5: you know, rotation of this guy's a pass rusher, that
- 54:06Speaker 5: guy's a run defender. You Devon Godshaw, good player, but
- 54:09Speaker 5: he's like a down player, you know, Joshua ja good player,
- 54:14Speaker 5: but he can't play all three downs. And Bill was
- 54:17Speaker 5: able to mix and match those types of guys and
- 54:19Speaker 5: use them to their strengths. But you would like to
- 54:21Speaker 5: be able to have guys that can play a little
- 54:24Speaker 5: bit more in terms of their usage, like Christian Barmore
- 54:27Speaker 5: who can play in all situations. So I think it's
- 54:30Speaker 5: a huge need and it's a good class, so I
- 54:33Speaker 5: hope that they hit it.
- 54:33Speaker 4: That's what I said about the Georgia kids.
- 54:35Speaker 7: I mean, just yeah, I can't go wrong with the
- 54:36Speaker 7: Georgia guys.
- 54:37Speaker 4: No, I'll just ask, well, that's I mean, that's kind
- 54:40Speaker 4: of all Philly's philosophy, like Georgia, Georgia. Yeah, yeah, Nico, Yeah.
- 54:44Speaker 5: They get a lot of credit for just going and
- 54:46Speaker 5: downloading the consensus board and just like drafting all the
- 54:49Speaker 5: brand names. They like to do that in phil.
- 54:52Speaker 4: Let's take another call here on the TPX hotline before
- 54:55Speaker 4: we take a quick lunch break. Patty and I go on, Patty,
- 54:58Speaker 4: you're back. What's up?
- 54:58Speaker 7: Man?
- 55:00Speaker 18: Hey?
- 55:00Speaker 1: Can everyone hear me say?
- 55:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we got you? Well, you were getting like robbed
- 55:03Speaker 4: or something in that the last car or was that
- 55:04Speaker 4: not you?
- 55:06Speaker 12: No? That was me.
- 55:07Speaker 19: I just I lost my head for a moment because
- 55:10Speaker 19: like the first two called Bilt, first two calls Bill.
- 55:12Speaker 19: So I was back at my shop and got kind
- 55:15Speaker 19: of got into a little mock scouting.
- 55:17Speaker 4: That all right, good, So I wasn't crazy, because that's
- 55:20Speaker 4: what I thought was like, what is going on? Sounds
- 55:22Speaker 4: like you're in the middle of a battle.
- 55:25Speaker 19: It was innocuous, but like like I told, uh snick Chester,
- 55:28Speaker 19: like if you guys have held me on for like
- 55:31Speaker 19: another five seconds, I think I went on kind of
- 55:33Speaker 19: like a pretty big profanity tirade right after I checked
- 55:38Speaker 19: my phone, Like I was like, oh man, I got
- 55:40Speaker 19: disconnected again.
- 55:41Speaker 4: Paul started giving your let's get them. That's all right,
- 55:45Speaker 4: what's going on today?
- 55:47Speaker 19: So just going back to uh, last weekend, I'm gonna
- 55:50Speaker 19: answer the question. But going back to last weekend, I
- 55:52Speaker 19: think I had a really good time Sunday.
- 55:55Speaker 11: I took Monday out of work.
- 55:57Speaker 19: I had such such good of a time that I
- 55:59Speaker 19: ended up with a big thing. One of my favorite Patriots.
- 56:01Speaker 19: For sure, Fred would be proud of me. But I
- 56:04Speaker 19: think the biggest losers to kind of tear it. What
- 56:07Speaker 19: it Evan said wasn't on the field. It was the
- 56:09Speaker 19: frigging Hall of Fame voters. I mean, the fact that
- 56:12Speaker 19: Luke Keekley and Adam DINISII didn't get in, in my opinion,
- 56:16Speaker 19: being an NFL fan for almost forty years is just ridiculous.
- 56:19Speaker 19: And Eric Allen and sterlind Sharp really, I mean, those
- 56:22Speaker 19: guys are good, but were they Hall of Famers? I
- 56:24Speaker 19: don't think so. So the question I wanted to throw
- 56:29Speaker 19: us to you guys, if if Brabel ends up going
- 56:33Speaker 19: with the four man front, does the key On White
- 56:36Speaker 19: play defensive tackle or does he play defensive end? And
- 56:40Speaker 19: I'll pick it out there.
- 56:41Speaker 7: Guys love it.
- 56:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 56:43Speaker 4: I mean I I try him out at left defensive end.
- 56:46Speaker 7: I try.
- 56:46Speaker 4: I just I think he struggles against tackles. I think
- 56:49Speaker 4: he kind of was a one trick pony rushing from
- 56:51Speaker 4: the outside. You like him when he reduces inside on
- 56:54Speaker 4: passing downs, that's.
- 56:55Speaker 7: Probably a spot.
- 56:56Speaker 4: So you know it said that about Barmore. I think
- 56:58Speaker 4: he can make up for some of Barmore if you
- 57:00Speaker 4: if you were to lose barmb more and I think
- 57:01Speaker 4: him and Barmore together inside will be great. But I
- 57:04Speaker 4: think I got real questions about how he how exactly
- 57:07Speaker 4: he fits and if I don't know if he's that
- 57:08Speaker 4: guy that Evan mentioned where we need a three down
- 57:11Speaker 4: defensive end, I don't I don't know if he's that guy,
- 57:12Speaker 4: I'd give him a chance at that spot. I'd let
- 57:15Speaker 4: him stand up a little bit too, But I think
- 57:16Speaker 4: he is real questions about how he fits in as
- 57:19Speaker 4: a three down player.
- 57:20Speaker 5: Yeah, Like can he be a four to three end
- 57:22Speaker 5: in a in a more you know, aggressive front, Like
- 57:25Speaker 5: maybe I could see that, especially down in a three
- 57:28Speaker 5: point stance. He seems to generate more power and more
- 57:31Speaker 5: explosiveness than when he's up on his feet for whatever reason,
- 57:34Speaker 5: So maybe that helps. But I definitely think he's at
- 57:37Speaker 5: his best rushing over guards on passing downs. You know,
- 57:40Speaker 5: that seems to be where he's at.
- 57:41Speaker 4: It's good at it. I mean, he's good legit at legit,
- 57:44Speaker 4: good at it. Yeah, I doubt I feel the same way.
- 57:46Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, he might be the type of player
- 57:47Speaker 5: that you want more in a rotation, Like if you
- 57:50Speaker 5: can get somebody that can be a first and second
- 57:52Speaker 5: down player and then he only plays in passing situations
- 57:56Speaker 5: and that maybe that gets a little bit more out
- 57:58Speaker 5: of him, Like maybe he's not seventy five seventy snap usage.
- 58:03Speaker 4: I just look at that position. I don't think they
- 58:05Speaker 4: have a real legit four to three defensive end on
- 58:09Speaker 4: the roster. I mean, and maybe you could say Tetrick
- 58:11Speaker 4: Wise a free agent, maybe you could say he could
- 58:12Speaker 4: be one. I think, but I think we kind of
- 58:15Speaker 4: know what he is at this point. He's you know,
- 58:17Speaker 4: it's not like his game is gonna jump to another
- 58:18Speaker 4: level now because you're playing more of an even front.
- 58:21Speaker 4: But it's a great question, and I think, again, this
- 58:24Speaker 4: is a stat class and that second pick to me,
- 58:28Speaker 4: you know, if you get Will Campbell up top, you
- 58:30Speaker 4: take care of the tackle need and you say, all right,
- 58:32Speaker 4: we got a guy have some fun in that bought
- 58:34Speaker 4: low twenties. I mean, some of these guys are gonna
- 58:36Speaker 4: are going to get through.
- 58:38Speaker 11: All right.
- 58:38Speaker 4: Let's take one more call here from Donald Virginia and
- 58:40Speaker 4: we're gonna take a quick break. Hey dump, Hey, I on,
- 58:45Speaker 4: You're on, what's going on?
- 58:47Speaker 11: Okay?
- 58:48Speaker 5: Cool?
- 58:48Speaker 6: And I feel like a pool because I hear that
- 58:50Speaker 6: all the time I'm listening to the show, and I
- 58:53Speaker 6: always wonder why people do that, But I can understand
- 58:55Speaker 6: now it sounds a little bit different on this end,
- 58:57Speaker 6: So yeah, I won't believe in that point. I just
- 59:00Speaker 6: got a quick question to all of you. When it
- 59:02Speaker 6: comes to talking about giving Drake May some weapons, talk
- 59:06Speaker 6: about free agency, and I'll throw my caveat here. I apologize.
- 59:09Speaker 6: I haven't listened at all this week due to work.
- 59:12Speaker 6: It's my first opportunity, so I kind of want to
- 59:14Speaker 6: just put out there the feelers when we talk about
- 59:18Speaker 6: wide receivers. Is chatter about well mat chatter, but reports
- 59:21Speaker 6: that the Rams are looking to move on from Cooper
- 59:23Speaker 6: Cup debo. Apparently some forty nine ers looking to go.
- 59:26Speaker 6: Are these anybody that you think would be good for
- 59:30Speaker 6: the team? I know in the past we've taken some
- 59:33Speaker 6: of the old heads, brought them on and we've had
- 59:35Speaker 6: some success and we've had some failures along the way
- 59:37Speaker 6: as well. Both are good players, but both have had
- 59:42Speaker 6: their struggles over the past few years.
- 59:43Speaker 5: So I just want to float that.
- 59:45Speaker 6: I'll take it off air and see what you guys say.
- 59:47Speaker 7: Yeah, thanks Tom, I've heard what Evan said the past
- 59:50Speaker 7: couple shows. Now I'm with him, just like we don't
- 59:52Speaker 7: need those agent receiver We could use Cooper Cup and
- 59:55Speaker 7: Mac Joneses last year like Devo back then. Like, I
- 59:58Speaker 7: just don't think the team is ready for a thirty
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: one year old vet that's like, you know, probably still
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: wants to try to get a ring pretty soon.
- 1:00:06Speaker 5: Yeah, it just it baffles me that people want like
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: a babysitter in the room, and they want that babysitter
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: to be a twenty million dollar a year player. Like
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: it's one thing to go out there and get, you know,
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: somebody that you feel good about in terms of veteran
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: leadership and stuff like that at a reasonable cost. But
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: you're not paying Cooper Cup twenty million dollars to come
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: hold kaishaan Booty and Pop Douglas in Jalen Polk's hand.
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: Like he's got to be doing more than just that
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: for that kind of money. So that's only if they
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: think he still has something in the tank and he's
- 1:00:38Speaker 5: still going to contribute and he's still going to be
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: like a top you know, a number one, low end,
- 1:00:42Speaker 5: number one, high end, number two receiver. And that's one thing,
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: but if you're just bringing him in for an adult
- 1:00:47Speaker 5: in the room and that contract has got to be
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: restructured and reworked, and now you're getting into a situation
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: where he's going to a team that's not a not
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: competing for a super Bowl for less money, Like what's
- 1:00:58Speaker 5: in it for Cooper Cup?
- 1:00:59Speaker 11: Now?
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Like it's just it's a tough one for me. And
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: I'd say the same with Debo, like to find like
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: for both sides, Like what's the argument for both sides?
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I would say, and I kind of
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: got a lukewarm take on this one and that like
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: I'm not clamoring for those guys, but if they somehow
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: worked it out and they wanted to come here, I
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: just think with the position in the shape that it's in,
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: they need bodies and I would, you know, I would
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: welcome a Cooper Cup in that receiver room and setting
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: the tone and is he at the end Probably I'm
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: not planning on the table for him, but I wouldn't
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: be like that's a terrible.
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: Move, you know.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: I just I look at it. I think they need
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: two receivers. They need two legit receivers, and if one
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: of them is you know, Chris Godwin coming off an
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: injury something like that. You know, I get the arguments
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: for is he gonna be with Drake in success? Well,
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: they got to get the plane off the ground first
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: before we talk about like the success and competing for championships,
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Like you got to get things moving. You need a
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: receiver who can come in and give Drake that level
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: of trust where when I need to throw the ball
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: on third and long, I know where he's gonna be
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: and he's gonna be there every time. It kind of
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: goes back to what one of the last callers was
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: saying about about Kendrick Bourne, who I will just throw in,
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: like coming off in acl last year, I give him
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: a tiny, tiny tiny bit of like let's see how
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: it looks this year, Josh coming back. But again I
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: still come from a place where we need two guys, two.
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: Guys I agree, Like, if you're getting t Higgins and
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: Cooper Cupp, that changes your whole draft strategy because now
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: you don't need to get Tet or maybe Travis if
- 1:02:21Speaker 7: he's playing receivers. So I'm so sick of whiffing on
- 1:02:25Speaker 7: receivers in the draft that I'd rather sign somebody in
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: free agency, but just needs to be right guy.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what the appeal to Godwin is to me.
- 1:02:31Speaker 5: I just know how this works in this building a
- 1:02:33Speaker 5: lot of the time. And if they're paying real money
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: to a free agent wide receiver, a guy like Cooper Cup,
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: like that's your move a wide receiver, like they're not
- 1:02:41Speaker 5: gonna then go out and trade for Cooper Cup and
- 1:02:45Speaker 5: signed T Higgins or a trade for Cooper Cup and
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: draft Ted McMillan, Like they're not going to put that
- 1:02:50Speaker 5: many eggs into one position basket. I don't think so.
- 1:02:54Speaker 5: If that's your move, then that's your move in a
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: lot of ways at that position. So I just worry
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: about that being they're big move. I kind of like
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: god went a little bit better, Yeah, because a little younger,
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: and I just think he's got a little bit more
- 1:03:06Speaker 5: left in the tank. I know he's coming off some injuries,
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: but I feel like he's at least still twenty eight
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: years old and has some juice left and I could
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: see him being a productive player still.
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: All right, we're gonna take a little break here and
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: we'll be back in a few minutes.
- 1:03:21Speaker 20: Isn't it time to get exactly what you want. Welcome

- 1:04:26Speaker 22: Matt Smith here alongside with Pop Paolo and were pleased
- 1:04:28Speaker 22: to be joined by former Patriots quarterback Matt Castle. Matt,
- 1:04:32Speaker 22: thanks for joining.
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: Us, Absolutely glad to be here.
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: Why are you here, Matt. What would bring you back,
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: what would.
- 1:04:38Speaker 13: Bring me back to the Foxborough is not just the people,
- 1:04:40Speaker 13: the fans, but it's the tribute. Let's be honest, it's
- 1:04:42Speaker 13: the tribute the retirement ceremony for Tom Brady. And you know,
- 1:04:46Speaker 13: it was an incredible start to the ceremonies last night
- 1:04:50Speaker 13: when we all got together, a bunch of teammates, old
- 1:04:52Speaker 13: teammates and familiar faces coming back. So we had a
- 1:04:55Speaker 13: blast last night. We're looking to continue it tonight.
- 1:04:57Speaker 22: You're a busy man with a big family of responsibilities
- 1:05:01Speaker 22: and everything like that, so it's not the easiest thing
- 1:05:04Speaker 22: to sort of I'm going to drop everything I'm doing.
- 1:05:06Speaker 22: But was it and I'm sure so. I mean, I
- 1:05:08Speaker 22: don't want he answered for you challenging, but was it
- 1:05:12Speaker 22: an easy decision to make that I wanted to be here?
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: It was challenging, but it was definitely an easy decision
- 1:05:16Speaker 7: to make.
- 1:05:17Speaker 13: I mean, Tom's a close friend of mine. He's played
- 1:05:20Speaker 13: an important role in my development when I was young,
- 1:05:23Speaker 13: and throughout the years we've stayed close. And just the
- 1:05:26Speaker 13: fact that we get an opportunity to celebrate him tonight
- 1:05:29Speaker 13: and send him send him out in the proper fashion.
- 1:05:32Speaker 13: It'll be it'll be a fun, fun experience for everybody.
- 1:05:35Speaker 10: You talked about the event that you did on Tuesday night,
- 1:05:38Speaker 10: any particular teammate that maybe you hadn't seen, and you're like, wow,
- 1:05:42Speaker 10: it was great to catch out. I'm sure there were
- 1:05:44Speaker 10: a lot of them, but on an individual that.
- 1:05:46Speaker 13: Stood out, you know, there's not one individual. The cool
- 1:05:49Speaker 13: part about it is the thing that you missed Motest
- 1:05:51Speaker 13: and we talked about this is when you.
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: Leave the game, you miss that locker room.
- 1:05:55Speaker 13: And you had Logan Mankins, Matt Light, Dan Cope and
- 1:05:59Speaker 13: Lonnie Packs and Kevin Fox, Dion Branch, all these guys
- 1:06:03Speaker 13: that you've had these incredible experiences with and we played together,
- 1:06:06Speaker 13: we competed together. But to come back all and get
- 1:06:09Speaker 13: into one room and be able to see those guys
- 1:06:12Speaker 13: and pick up where we left off and tell funny
- 1:06:14Speaker 13: stories and old jokes, that's what it's all about. And
- 1:06:17Speaker 13: it's the camaraderie that you really don't experience in other
- 1:06:21Speaker 13: walks of life, but you do in that locker room.
- 1:06:24Speaker 7: And so it's pretty unique.
- 1:06:26Speaker 22: All right, let's start where it started in two thousand
- 1:06:28Speaker 22: and five, and here's a guy who played one of
- 1:06:31Speaker 22: the best programs in all college football. You didn't get
- 1:06:34Speaker 22: a chance to play a lot.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: What were your.
- 1:06:38Speaker 22: What realistically, Matt, did you think was going to happen
- 1:06:40Speaker 22: as you entered the draft that year.
- 1:06:42Speaker 13: Honestly, I was just hoping to catch on as a
- 1:06:45Speaker 13: free agent and prove myself, maybe even get in a practice,
- 1:06:49Speaker 13: because my expectations were, Hey, if I can get in,
- 1:06:52Speaker 13: hopefully I can get a chance to prove myself. And
- 1:06:55Speaker 13: throughout the process, I had a good Pro Day and
- 1:06:57Speaker 13: all that stuff, and I had some workouts for about
- 1:06:59Speaker 13: five different teams, and I just thought, you know, there
- 1:07:02Speaker 13: is potential here that I will be a free agent somewhere.
- 1:07:05Speaker 13: And then all of a sudden, that last day of
- 1:07:07Speaker 13: the draft, I get a phone call. I was sitting
- 1:07:09Speaker 13: down at my agency's like, look, free agency is gonna
- 1:07:11Speaker 13: happen quick. We got to be prepared. We're getting fucked.
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: We started to field some phone calls from different teams,
- 1:07:16Speaker 13: and next thing I know, Coach Belichick's on the line
- 1:07:19Speaker 13: and saying, hey, Matt, welcome to the New England Patriots.
- 1:07:22Speaker 13: We're going to take you next in the NFL Draft.
- 1:07:24Speaker 13: And my jawge is dropped. I kind of even had
- 1:07:26Speaker 13: to ask him, are you messing with me? Because I
- 1:07:28Speaker 13: didn't think it was realistic, right, I mean, for a
- 1:07:31Speaker 13: guy that threw I think it was thirty two total
- 1:07:33Speaker 13: passes in college, I backed up to Heisman Trophy winners,
- 1:07:36Speaker 13: which probably you know, kind of helped me along the
- 1:07:39Speaker 13: way in terms of the perception of who I could
- 1:07:41Speaker 13: potentially be. But there wasn't any tape out there, and
- 1:07:43Speaker 13: so the fact that they took a shot on me
- 1:07:45Speaker 13: and gave me an opportunity, I'd be forever, forever grateful.
- 1:07:49Speaker 10: So when you got drafted, you know, I was We
- 1:07:51Speaker 10: were still doing the newspaper back then, Matt, that's how
- 1:07:53Speaker 10: long ago it was. But you know, I had your
- 1:07:56Speaker 10: draft profile that year and I called Pete Carroll, who
- 1:08:00Speaker 10: was the head coach here my first year working for
- 1:08:03Speaker 10: Patriots dot Com, and I talked to Pete a little
- 1:08:05Speaker 10: bit and he gushed about how agonizing the decision was
- 1:08:10Speaker 10: between you and Mattleiner, and how you guys had sort
- 1:08:12Speaker 10: of toggled back and forth, and you know, depending on
- 1:08:15Speaker 10: the day that he woke up, he was convinced you
- 1:08:18Speaker 10: with the guy right, and then it was him, and
- 1:08:19Speaker 10: then it was you, and do you think that maybe
- 1:08:22Speaker 10: Pete talked to a lot of NFL guys, maybe with
- 1:08:25Speaker 10: his obviously extensive experience, and maybe that sort of helped
- 1:08:28Speaker 10: give you a little bit of a push.
- 1:08:29Speaker 13: I absolutely think he had an influence on just the
- 1:08:33Speaker 13: ability to know so many different people from a personnel standpoint,
- 1:08:37Speaker 13: and then at the same time, I remember on the
- 1:08:39Speaker 13: pro day, before we started our pro day, he would
- 1:08:42Speaker 13: go in and speak to all the scouts individually about
- 1:08:45Speaker 13: each guy, and so I know that we always had
- 1:08:48Speaker 13: a good relationship. And as agonizing as it was for him,
- 1:08:51Speaker 13: it was more agonizing for me to sit there and
- 1:08:53Speaker 13: have to wait and say, you know, I can't the
- 1:08:56Speaker 13: week before season getting called into that office and getting
- 1:09:00Speaker 13: devastating news that what you've been working for, you've been
- 1:09:02Speaker 13: the backup for three years behind Carson. This was I
- 1:09:05Speaker 13: felt like it was my time to go. And then
- 1:09:07Speaker 13: to be told, look, we're gonna go with line Art
- 1:09:09Speaker 13: to start, but if he falters it all and you know,
- 1:09:12Speaker 13: he took off that first game with like a rocket
- 1:09:14Speaker 13: ship and we go beat Auburn, and then I was like, man,
- 1:09:17Speaker 13: what am I going to do?
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: So I stuck playing.
- 1:09:19Speaker 11: I went and.
- 1:09:19Speaker 13: Switched over played a little tight end that year, played
- 1:09:21Speaker 13: on special teams, did all these different things just because
- 1:09:24Speaker 13: I wanted to play and be a part of it.
- 1:09:26Speaker 13: But I was kind of stuck in that catch twenty.
- 1:09:27Speaker 10: That's why Belichick drafted.
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: Yeah, He's like, maybe he'll be on special team.
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: The more you can do, right, the more you can do.
- 1:09:33Speaker 22: Okay, So you're here ostensibly, you know, it helped celebrate
- 1:09:36Speaker 22: Tom's career, and so one of the big things that
- 1:09:39Speaker 22: has happened throughout the years, or rookie comes in, you're
- 1:09:42Speaker 22: in the room with him. You know, what was your
- 1:09:44Speaker 22: first impression when you met Tom?
- 1:09:45Speaker 13: You know, I pretty much introduced myself in the weakest
- 1:09:49Speaker 13: nerdiest form and fashion when he came up.
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: I said, mister Brady, Matt Castle.
- 1:09:53Speaker 13: Because you know, it's an intimidating environment, right, and this
- 1:09:56Speaker 13: guy just came off three Super Bowls. You don't know
- 1:09:58Speaker 13: how to Like normally you go up and say, hey,
- 1:10:00Speaker 13: what's going on, man, Nice to meet you. I just
- 1:10:02Speaker 13: completely geeked out with a mister Brady. He's like, hey, Bud,
- 1:10:06Speaker 13: don't call me that, call me Tommy. I was like,
- 1:10:07Speaker 13: he might have me cut tomorrow. Based on the fact
- 1:10:10Speaker 13: that he doesn't want to be in the room with
- 1:10:12Speaker 13: somebody like a But no, he was incredible from the jump.
- 1:10:15Speaker 13: I mean we got in there, and then soon thereafter
- 1:10:18Speaker 13: as we started getting to the work outs that offseason,
- 1:10:21Speaker 13: he's noticed that, Look, I was one of those.
- 1:10:24Speaker 4: Workout warriors too.
- 1:10:25Speaker 7: I like to go in there.
- 1:10:26Speaker 13: I like to work out, and he's like, hey, you
- 1:10:27Speaker 13: want to work out with me. So he kind of
- 1:10:28Speaker 13: took me under his wing at that point, and from
- 1:10:31Speaker 13: that point on for the next four years, we worked
- 1:10:33Speaker 13: out every day with each other.
- 1:10:34Speaker 7: We're in every meeting.
- 1:10:35Speaker 13: But for me, it was just incredible to watch the
- 1:10:39Speaker 13: professionalism day in and day out, and his leadership. And
- 1:10:43Speaker 13: it was not just with his words, but it was
- 1:10:45Speaker 13: with his actions. It's how he took care of himself,
- 1:10:48Speaker 13: it's how he interacted with his teammates, how he treated
- 1:10:51Speaker 13: one guy because he thought he could get the most
- 1:10:53Speaker 13: out of this guy like Welker, for instance, he could
- 1:10:55Speaker 13: yell at him all day long and Welker would just
- 1:10:58Speaker 13: continue to go, you know. And then there's other guys
- 1:11:00Speaker 13: that maybe like a rainy Moss, that he'd sit there
- 1:11:02Speaker 13: in the locker after practice and just have a general
- 1:11:04Speaker 13: discussion about stuff. Because he how how he approached people
- 1:11:08Speaker 13: was different based on their personality and the relationships. So
- 1:11:13Speaker 13: it was just a masterclass in being a professional quarterback.
- 1:11:16Speaker 13: And then to watch what he did week in and
- 1:11:19Speaker 13: week out was just astounding.
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: So you get to be part of that room with,
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: you know, the best that's ever done it, and you
- 1:11:25Speaker 10: also get to be coached by a guy who a
- 1:11:27Speaker 10: lot of people think is the best who's ever done it.
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: What do you remember about Bill specifically? But and I know,
- 1:11:33Speaker 10: Matt and I tell talk about that story that I
- 1:11:36Speaker 10: think you talked about in the Dynasty documentary about him
- 1:11:39Speaker 10: calling your mom.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, right.
- 1:11:43Speaker 13: About being a dumb ass because I missed the corner
- 1:11:46Speaker 13: that was my rookie year. Yeah, it was the last
- 1:11:48Speaker 13: preseason game. I didn't see the week corner blitz, which, hey,
- 1:11:51Speaker 13: they were pretty sneaky about it, and the guy's as well.
- 1:11:53Speaker 13: But he definitely called me out in the meeting the
- 1:11:56Speaker 13: next day. He's like, you know, Matt, let's make sure
- 1:11:59Speaker 13: we go through the front and check the corner blitz.
- 1:12:01Speaker 13: I don't have to call your mom and tell our
- 1:12:03Speaker 13: dear missus Castle, we're sorry your son's in the hospital
- 1:12:05Speaker 13: because he's a dumb ass, and.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: Foray, I was like, yep, I deserve that one.
- 1:12:10Speaker 13: But Bill Bill was he was incredible because he pushed
- 1:12:14Speaker 13: you to limits that you didn't know that you could go,
- 1:12:16Speaker 13: and he got the best out of each of his players.
- 1:12:18Speaker 13: But I always respected about Bill was he had you
- 1:12:21Speaker 13: better prepared for any situation situationally speaking, also just game
- 1:12:25Speaker 13: readiness than I've ever been around. And part of that
- 1:12:28Speaker 13: was even on Tuesdays, taking the time out of his day.
- 1:12:31Speaker 13: On a Tuesday or off day, we'd come in, we'd
- 1:12:33Speaker 13: meet with him and you've probably heard the story. We
- 1:12:35Speaker 13: sit down, go through every personnel and their defensive back end, safeties,
- 1:12:40Speaker 13: corner strengths, weaknesses, summarize who they are, then even maybe
- 1:12:44Speaker 13: a potential matchup on linebackers, talk about the defensive coordinator
- 1:12:48Speaker 13: and also his lineage and where it came from. Then
- 1:12:52Speaker 13: we'd watch film on all these guys. So by the
- 1:12:54Speaker 13: time you came in on Wednesday, you're rolling. You understand
- 1:12:57Speaker 13: why we're implementing certain passkingsmes and concepts, who were trying
- 1:13:02Speaker 13: to attack on specific routes, who are trying to take
- 1:13:04Speaker 13: advantage of and so you just had this You had
- 1:13:07Speaker 13: this confidence going into game week understanding why we're doing
- 1:13:11Speaker 13: certain things.
- 1:13:12Speaker 7: And there was never that wait, what are we doing?
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: And if there was, it was answered, right and so.
- 1:13:20Speaker 7: And the other thing I always.
- 1:13:21Speaker 13: Appreciated about Bill was he he was always held everybody
- 1:13:25Speaker 13: to the same standard of accountability. It wasn't like, ay,
- 1:13:28Speaker 13: if you're this guy and you're a big name, you're
- 1:13:31Speaker 13: you're off limits. And I've been around that that type
- 1:13:33Speaker 13: of program before too. No, it was look, if you're
- 1:13:36Speaker 13: Tom Brady or if you're a free agent, it doesn't matter.
- 1:13:39Speaker 13: If you've messed up, I'm gonna call you out. We're
- 1:13:41Speaker 13: going to correct it here. It might not be something
- 1:13:44Speaker 13: that you know, everybody everybody's cup of tea like to
- 1:13:47Speaker 13: sit there and get it in the meeting room, but
- 1:13:49Speaker 13: at the same time, it's set us level of expectation
- 1:13:54Speaker 13: and a standard for everyone.
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: And now great moments.
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: And my point was like, Alex is just saying that
- 1:14:05Speaker 5: you can't You couldn't imagine to in eight and either
- 1:14:08Speaker 5: could have That's I couldn't have either because I thought
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: that at the very worst, they would just be need
- 1:14:13Speaker 5: to think.
- 1:14:13Speaker 10: I'm really I am negative and I don't know, I think,
- 1:14:17Speaker 10: but I don't know I don't think.
- 1:14:20Speaker 5: Well, but but you said seven wins is their ceiling, right, Yeah,
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: And I don't necessarily disagree with that. They're not going
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: to get to seven wins.
- 1:14:27Speaker 23: But when they're ceiling, if everything fell in other words,
- 1:14:30Speaker 23: if they stayed healthy, everything fell in place, but they close,
- 1:14:34Speaker 23: the other teams got hurt, you didn't like, maybe you
- 1:14:36Speaker 23: could win seven games.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: That's how I felt about this team, I know, but.
- 1:14:40Speaker 5: I don't necessarily disagree with that. If they're two and eight, Paul,
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: like I thought, if they win the tour games, that's
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: going to be a lot.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: I didn't think the offense could get worse.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: I didn't think that I would. I would, but that's
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: why I didn't think the offense could be worse.
- 1:14:54Speaker 17: Than it was.
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: That's my question is just I think we all kind
- 1:14:57Speaker 4: of agreed that, like six, I feel like we said
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: a lot. Six six wins feels like the floor for
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: this team. Like he's too good a coach to not
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: get them six wins. Why aren't we just six wins
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: this year?
- 1:15:06Speaker 23: You know, yeah, I would have said, it's like, see
- 1:15:10Speaker 23: I'm playing.
- 1:15:12Speaker 10: I know you think I'm probably lying, but I'm not either,
- 1:15:15Speaker 10: because I think there's some teams that they could be
- 1:15:17Speaker 10: just like the last couple of games they played, they
- 1:15:20Speaker 10: could have won.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: That would be a big mistake.
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: That's another great moment from.
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: Confidence. It's important to have when you're on the road
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: with Bridgetone tires on your car, truck, suv or mini van.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: You're riding on tires you can trust Bridgetone tires or
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: engineered to give you peace of mind so you can
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: focus on enjoying the journey. So whether you're on your
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: morning commute, across country road trip, or relaxing Sunday drive,
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: Bridgestone tires will be with you wherever life's roads may leave.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: Bridgetone Solutions for your journey available now at Sullivan Tire Alex.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: You could probably use a pair of those. With the
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: way you go through well, you know, yeah, the commute.
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: I recently did get some Bridgestone tires.
- 1:15:57Speaker 9: The sailing ever since I know there is like that
- 1:16:00Speaker 9: stretch of I had to replace my tires twice within
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: like one year.
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: My lord, it's got too many miles. How many times
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: you fill up a week.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: Depends on how many times I'm coming into the office.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: But it's every other day, oh, my lord.
- 1:16:13Speaker 5: Every other day.
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you need to go elect I know you excuse
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: I have a Hyrid too.
- 1:16:17Speaker 3: I loved it.
- 1:16:18Speaker 9: I'll upgrade the RAB four eventually to another rev like
- 1:16:21Speaker 9: the plug and Hybrid RAB.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: For but she's got to be eight hummer now, it's
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: really tough one.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: It was like coming to work every day in.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: A suburban Well, let's stick with you because we have
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: a question here from a longtime listener. First time email
- 1:16:34Speaker 4: er loved the show. This question is for Alex specifically,
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: I'm a pilot for a legacy airline and alex raving
- 1:16:40Speaker 4: about Guatemala inspired me to bid for trips with time
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: in Guatemala City next month. Do you have anything you
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: would recommend specifically in Guatemala City for one afternoon evening.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: Thanks for all you guys do four, one, three, Okay.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Try out the coffee shops.
- 1:16:54Speaker 9: I spent very minimal time in Guatemala City because it
- 1:16:57Speaker 9: was kind of you're just landing there and then you're going.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Up to Antigua or El Paradone.
- 1:17:01Speaker 9: But Coffee District, off the top of my head, is
- 1:17:04Speaker 9: an awesome, awesome cafe, delicious food, amazing coffee like I
- 1:17:09Speaker 9: wish I brought more coffee beans back. But there's a
- 1:17:12Speaker 9: great app called Source and it's it's how I find
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: good coffee shops essentially. So download the app Source and
- 1:17:21Speaker 9: just spend your time going to coffee shops in Guatemala City.
- 1:17:24Speaker 9: It's a great time, great food.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: You're gonna go back for something.
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: I'm ready to buy a property down there.
- 1:17:31Speaker 5: Yes, it's a parking lot.
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: It's probably affordable, imagine.
- 1:17:33Speaker 9: Yeah, so there's a lot an il paradon right on
- 1:17:36Speaker 9: the Pacific Ocean, thirty grand I could have a whole compound.
- 1:17:41Speaker 9: Trust me, I've looked into this. I've looked at no
- 1:17:44Speaker 9: pop up, a couple pop up, a couple of Airbnbs, and.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: It's a good plan. Real estate.
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: The money is Yeah, that's the first step in my
- 1:17:55Speaker 5: real estate empire in Guatemala.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: I don't know those perceptions of Central Guided.
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: It's a Hollywood issue.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: It might be yeah, right, you're watching Narcos once and.
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: You're just it's just blanket. It's all another email here,
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: this one for Evan. For the most part, I trust Evan,
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: but I think his take on Mason Graham at number
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: four has some major flaws. We all agree that the
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: biggest problem with the Patriots defense is the front seven
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: getting pushed around and generating no pressure hole. Please. In
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: Rabel's defense, there is no role for a Belichick style
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: DT like Godshaw, and I don't know if I agree
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: with that, and we cannot have another season with the
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: Roy Farms a quality band aid. Mason Graham has the
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: explosiveness to push the pocket, giving the edge and linebackers
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: the ability to make more plays. Barmel already had trouble
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: making it through full season before the terrible situation last year.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: We have no idea what his future looks like. Get
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: elite Big Boys Loo from Philly. I mean, there's some
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: good points there.
- 1:18:53Speaker 7: I think, what do you think.
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: I'm not anti Mason Graham. I just think that when
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: you're drafting fourth overall, that is a franchise altering pick
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: and I just want to make sure that you're getting
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: a player that can make a franchise altering impact. And
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: I just don't know if he's that guy. You know,
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: I listened to Dame Brugler on Paul Shows this morning
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: talking about his top one hundred, and he said, Mason
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: Graham's a good prospect. He's not like a Quinn Williams.
- 1:19:18Speaker 5: Level prospect, but he's a good prospect, Like, I don't
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: want just a good prospect that for overall, I want
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: a great one. I like a lot about Mason Graham,
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: but I just have reservations that I don't agree with
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: everybody's assessment that he's a great run defender. I think
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: he's a decent run defender. I don't think he's a
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: great run defender. I think has issues against double teams.
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: He's got shorter arms that's gonna, you know, lead to
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: issues with pressing blocks and creating separation from blocks at
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: this level. So if you want to have a guy
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: that's just gonna shoot gaps and get up the field,
- 1:19:51Speaker 5: and he's your guy, Like, if you want to do
- 1:19:53Speaker 5: that all day long, then sure that he can definitely
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: do that. But if you want, you know, some more
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: versatility there, I just worry about that.
- 1:20:01Speaker 12: Now.
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: In this draft class, there are a lot of guys
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: that have flaws, Like there's not a lot of perfect
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: prospects in this class, and he's in that tier. Like
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: I put him on the tier of I would take
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: him at four. I just wouldn't be doing cartwheels if
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: they took him at four. That's all that's all.
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: Jeffrey from Canada. Well, Tuesday show had a chief super
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: Bowl lost kind of feeling to it, as in not good. Ouch. However,
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: this kid's show will be good. I want to call
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: out Paul. I know he's away, but him reigning on
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: our chief's loss parade was brutal. Well that's what he does.
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: I mean, come on, you know exactly. That was the yeah, yeah,
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: you knew he was coming. That's why I read that email.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: That was like, you know, just a pure Patriots flex.
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: Like he will never ever be as good as Tom Brady.
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: That blow out loss was very good for Patriots Nation
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: and protecting of our dynasty. It made Tom Bill and
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: Gronk look even better. It also means the Goat conversation
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: is on a two year pause minimum. Mahomes is not
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: going to play until he's forty five. He just won't.
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: I think his style of play has already been duplicated
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: so much that he's regressing to the meme. Their defense
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: is about to lose major pieces, and it's not as
- 1:21:01Speaker 4: easy as all the talking heads make it sound to
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: draft this and trade for that. That was Jeffrey from Canada,
- 1:21:07Speaker 4: chiming in from.
- 1:21:08Speaker 7: The wall I agree with him. I just it brought
- 1:21:11Speaker 7: me so much joy. And Duce, I told you this
- 1:21:13Speaker 7: the other day and O seven, the biggest thing that
- 1:21:16Speaker 7: has etched in my mind is Brady got sacked. I
- 1:21:18Speaker 7: think it was by strayhand and he flexed and like
- 1:21:21Speaker 7: at that point he kind of just feel like it's done.
- 1:21:24Speaker 7: And it just brings me so much joy that there's
- 1:21:26Speaker 7: a little kid in Kansas City who thought he was
- 1:21:28Speaker 7: about to get a three peek Jalen Carter in the
- 1:21:32Speaker 7: face and he's probably it's gonna haunt him for ten years.
- 1:21:35Speaker 7: And that just brings so much joy.
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: To me, like a true Drake fan, just it just
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: it's perfec I don't know what that means.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: For little kid in Kansas City crying and I'm.
- 1:21:46Speaker 7: Eric Cartman looking up. It was amazing.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: Oh what was the kid's name?
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: Scott Tenneman.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: A great episode. You haven't seen that one center at
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: South Park. You gotta cue it up. Hey everyone, my
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: name is Richard from Charleston, South Carolina. I've been a
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: long time listener. This is my first time sending an email.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: I have two questions for you, Thank you for emailing us. First,
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: what's the best time to visit Jellette Stadium for a game.
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: I've been to Gellette, but it was the off season
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: and the second one. I'm proposing to my longtime girlfriend
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: in Italy in a few weeks. Any advice or tips
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: you can share for the whole process. Ps, it's about
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: a winner. Thanks Richard. That's a good emails stadium for me.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: September football weather, really September.
- 1:22:30Speaker 9: You like the elements laing early October.
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: You know, we get like the flex ticket thing, and
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: like Jess always picks the game like late September, early October,
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: somewhere along those lines when it's still, you know, a
- 1:22:45Speaker 5: warm ish like you're not going to go especially we
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: got so lucky.
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: I feel like every game September through October it was
- 1:22:51Speaker 9: a beautiful, sunny, seventy five degree day.
- 1:22:53Speaker 7: Almost passed out in the Seattle game. It was so
- 1:22:55Speaker 7: hot too.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: I think there's a sweet spot October. It's a great time,
- 1:23:00Speaker 4: great around here. Plenty of du go apple picking, go pumpkins,
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: see the trees, pick picking, ride a trailer tractor tree.
- 1:23:06Speaker 4: I don't know, you know, yeah, only one of us
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: here is actually married and has proposed, so I don't.
- 1:23:14Speaker 6: Know if.
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: One for one, one for one proposal so far, we'll see,
- 1:23:22Speaker 4: We'll see. I would say my advice is, you know,
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: just be careful of the ring. One thing I didn't
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: think about. I proposed on the end of a jetty
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: on Cape Cod and I was like, as it was
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: going on, I was like, this is a little dicey
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: right now, because if this thing would I fall out
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: of my hand, it's going down into the rock somewhere
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: and it's not never going to be found. The other
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: thing I would just say too, is like and every
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: person is different with how they receive it, but like
- 1:23:44Speaker 4: my wife, she she was kind of like awkwardly laughing
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: the whole time, Like I was expecting you to be like,
- 1:23:49Speaker 4: oh my god, I'm so excited to touch that. She
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: was just kind of like and so I kind of
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: wish that I had that I had like kind of
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: teed it up a little bit better, like you know,
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: like like so at least like she maybe had a
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: hint that it was about to happen. But otherwise, now, congratulations,
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: have a great time, Italy. I mean, if if you
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: screw that up and I know that's on you, I.
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: Would say that one of the best pieces of advice
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: I got. I had proposed on Martha's vineyard to just
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: as I'm sure everybody knows by now, we've talked about
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: it enough. But I hired a if she wanted a
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: photographer there to take pictures, and I hired someone that
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: lives on the island and like knew the island really
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: well and knew kind of the nooks and crannies and
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: things like that, especially if you're going to a foreign country,
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: like trying to find somebody local that can help you
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: and point you in the right direction of like, you know,
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: this is maybe a nice good proposal spot, or like
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: this is things that you could do afterwards and with
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: pictures and things like that. That was a good piece
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: of advice that I got because the photographer that I hired,
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: who was lived on the vineyard her whole life, like,
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: definitely made suggestions that I never would have thought of,
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: you know, because I'd not angles.
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: Yeah, the Golden Hour was just like a four thirty proposal.
- 1:24:59Speaker 12: No.
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: No, it was like right between dinner time and like sunset.
- 1:25:06Speaker 20: No.
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: We did it on Lighthouse Beach and Edgartown because Quinna
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: was just too complicated because it's so far away from
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: everything else. So plus the dog had to be there obviously,
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: so there's a whole beach situation with that too. But
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: that would be my one recommendation is to try to
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: reach out to some people that get.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: An Italian photographer somewhere, yeah knows the angles lighting the spots.
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: I like this email little Fred and Paul action here. Hey, guys,
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: I just want to chime in and say how much
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: I love the arguments between Fred and Paul. Why because
- 1:25:41Speaker 4: it's the only time I get to listen to two
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: people I like argue and root for both of them
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: because they haven't realized that they're arguing the same point.
- 1:25:47Speaker 4: Paul will give some well thought out points that Backfred,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: while Fred will point out what people are saying and
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: it backs Paul. When asked who these who those people are,
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: Fred can't give a coherent, expond coherent response. In the meantime,
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: Deuce will crack a joke in the that makes me
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: laugh out loud, but that it goes totally unnoticed by
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: Fred or Paul. Eventually the screaming max stops when they
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: realize they actually agree with each other. I also want
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: to say how impressed I I've been with Rabel I
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: was expecting a meat head coach, somewhat in the Dan
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Campbell mole, but I've been pleasantly surprised with how cerebral
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: he sounds. In every interview. He pauses before he answers
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: any questions and gives a deep, thoughtful and sincere response.
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: It's so different from the meaningless coach speak. I've become
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: accustomed to verbel sounds in real life, like what Eric
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: sounded like in his head. And lastly, a little shot
- 1:26:32Speaker 4: at Eric there. I mean, I'm on no email complete.
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: Last I want to become a ballner like Evan, but
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: it'd be possible for him to give a two or
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: three minute segment in each show where he explained some
- 1:26:42Speaker 4: ball knowing concept like what power run is or what
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: pinpull is. It could be accompanied by a sweet jingle
- 1:26:47Speaker 4: and Deuce can throw in some double entendres about Balnoy
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: love the show, especially Aussie's and Andrew and Cornado, California.
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Thank you for that email. That's really great. And yeah,
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: we do have some little little film stuff in the
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: work for you with the draft and so, yeah, we
- 1:27:00Speaker 4: did a little bit of that this year. We hope
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: to continue to expand it we've.
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: Discussed and maybe we can do an audience like you
- 1:27:06Speaker 5: know feel here. We've discussed doing like intro to football
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: style videos in the past of me breaking down like
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: some of the more simple concepts like things that you
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: guys could like recognize on TV if I like explained
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: it to you as best as I could. So we've
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: discussed it, but I just think it's hard to find
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: the time, the right time to shoot those, release those
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: and stuff like that. But I agree with his point
- 1:27:30Speaker 5: about Rabel though. I definitely was even that first time
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: we spoke to him on here when he came on
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: the show, when on a day on his intro presser day,
- 1:27:40Speaker 5: his like cerebralness is a perfect way to put it,
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: took me by surprise, Like I thought we were going
- 1:27:45Speaker 5: to get sort of like a raw raw meadhead Dan
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: Campbell's style coach as well, and he's he's definitely not that,
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: Like he's a he's a smart dude.
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: Quick a shout out to Andre from Costa Rica. It's
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: his birthday, Happy birthday. He thinks is podcast is the
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: best of all. Of course, you're right. Let's hop back
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: over here to the TPX Hotline, checking with Randy and Providence.
- 1:28:07Speaker 24: He Randy, I wanted to ask you about a draft
- 1:28:13Speaker 24: scenario and then like about three specific Day two prospects.
- 1:28:18Speaker 24: I wonder what you guys think about. You know, there's
- 1:28:20Speaker 24: two kind of blue chip prospects that everybody thinks with
- 1:28:24Speaker 24: Carter and Hunter and then two quarterbacks that would make
- 1:28:28Speaker 24: me think that there could be some value on the
- 1:28:29Speaker 24: fourth pick, maybe trading back to like the ten eleven
- 1:28:32Speaker 24: twelve range and being able to target you know, one
- 1:28:37Speaker 24: of those tackles that you guys talked about earlier, Stimmons
- 1:28:41Speaker 24: and Connerly and he had mentioned they'd be off the
- 1:28:44Speaker 24: board by the second round pick. And I think there
- 1:28:47Speaker 24: are three guys that are Day two prospects that could
- 1:28:50Speaker 24: be contributors. Maybe Anthony Belton out of NC State, he
- 1:28:55Speaker 24: looked real good at the Senior Bowl, Holland Pierce out
- 1:28:58Speaker 24: of Wreckers three fifties started like forty something games with
- 1:29:02Speaker 24: left tackle for them, and then a local kid, Ouzie
- 1:29:05Speaker 24: Trapilla out of BC. So I want to know what
- 1:29:08Speaker 24: you guys think about that draft scenario, that trade scenario.
- 1:29:11Speaker 24: Maybe I think ten eleven twelve because like Chicago's got
- 1:29:14Speaker 24: the extra second round pick, and then about those three
- 1:29:18Speaker 24: Day two prospects.
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: Thanks ready.
- 1:29:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not as we're deliar with the Rutgers kid yet,
- 1:29:24Speaker 5: but you know it, Belton like wide body tackle, you know,
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: built kind of more like a like an interior player,
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: but has the length to stick a tackle in the league.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: I liked what I saw out of him. I mean,
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: I think you you worry a little bit about foot
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: speed and pass protection and things with guys that are
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: built like that. With Trupeo, I know he's got a
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: lot of love because BC guy Dante Scarneckia worked with
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: him a little bit off to the side there and
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: trained with him a little. I thought he played a
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: little tall, you know, ne Ben in flexibility, I thought
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: were a bit of concerns like some of those really
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: bendy rushers I think he's gonna have problems with. But
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: I think those two guys are sort of in that,
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: like Caden Wallace Bucket of like our worst maybe swing tackles,
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: you know, guys that could be you know, top backups,
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: the best, you know, starting caliber guys. But I wouldn't
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: say like those guys are. Now we have left tackle
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: figured out, like we drafted Anthony Belton in the third
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: round and we're done. You know, I think that those
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: guys are still more in that like Wallace type of category.
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: I think my ideal scenario might be if Hunter and
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: Carter are gone, trade down a little bit still draft,
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: will Campbell pick up an extra top fifty to pick, yeah,
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: and be able to hammer the defense and get maybe
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: get one of these you know, third round receivers, somebody
- 1:30:37Speaker 4: with some jews down there. To me right now, those
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: two guys that that sounds the most appealing to me.
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: But I think the.
- 1:30:42Speaker 5: Issue is is that that sounds appealing to everybody right
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: Like that scenario, I think is what a lot of
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: teams are talking about in this draft because in most
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: drafts like this draft would start at like the sixth
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: or seventh overall pick because there would be like five
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: guys in front of them that are pushing everybody else down.
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: So everybody wants to trade down. So now like it's
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: a situation of like can you get the value in
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: a trade down and can you get a team to
- 1:31:06Speaker 5: bite on a trade down? Because I don't know how
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: many teams are going to be clamoring to go up.
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: You know, there's gonna be a lot of teams clamoring
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: to go down. So you look at last year when
- 1:31:16Speaker 5: three quarterbacks fly off the board one, two, three. Now
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: all of a sudden, the alts and the neighbors is
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: and the dunesday is like those guys now go five
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: to ten instead of going one through five. So that's
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: the tough part about this draft.
- 1:31:29Speaker 4: Set out to La, my old stomping grounds. Christian, Hey, Christian, Hey, you.
- 1:31:34Speaker 18: Guys, how you doing today?
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: Good?
- 1:31:35Speaker 7: Good?
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: How are you Okay?
- 1:31:37Speaker 18: Yeah, I'm doing. It's raining out in La.
- 1:31:40Speaker 14: Three weeks too late, but it's raining pretty.
- 1:31:42Speaker 18: Hard to see, so thank you mother nature.
- 1:31:45Speaker 7: But whatever.
- 1:31:46Speaker 18: Now we got a bunch of mudch flies that we're
- 1:31:48Speaker 18: we're worried about. But other than that, life is still
- 1:31:51Speaker 18: good here at LA. Yes, of course I want to
- 1:31:55Speaker 18: trumpet Travis Hunter and the fact that I think the
- 1:31:59Speaker 18: main reason Kansas City lost Patrick Mahomes had no way
- 1:32:02Speaker 18: to go with the ball, even with experience, uh wide
- 1:32:06Speaker 18: out like Hopkins and Elsie. To me, the front four
- 1:32:10Speaker 18: gets home because they have excellent coverage. So putting Hunter
- 1:32:14Speaker 18: on the team, paving them with Gonzales equals excellent coverage.
- 1:32:18Speaker 18: It might just help a front four with a free
- 1:32:19Speaker 18: agent to get home.
- 1:32:20Speaker 11: That's one thing.
- 1:32:21Speaker 18: Second thing is, could you guys give me three picks
- 1:32:25Speaker 18: and two free agents that you feel with equate to
- 1:32:28Speaker 18: ten wins because I'm not really interested in a three
- 1:32:31Speaker 18: win bomp or a two two win bump whatever. I
- 1:32:34Speaker 18: want a quantum league like Washington did to go to
- 1:32:37Speaker 18: ten wins. I'll take it off air, guys.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: Thanks Christian.
- 1:32:42Speaker 7: Where do you start?
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: How about let's just go like crazy. Let's say Ronnie Stanley,
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: Ronnie Stanley is your left tackle, You grab t Higgins
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Higgins Boom, you know, and then and then you and
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: then you supplement that with whoever you want really in
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: the draft, I feel like, but I mean, if you
- 1:32:57Speaker 4: take care of those positions and you know, maybe round
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: out the deal. Let's let's say offense in free agency
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: with the left tackle spot, grab an elite wide receiver,
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: you know, just just one. And then you get to
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: the draft and you say, all right, we're going defense.
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: We're gonna really, you know, try to get some of
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: these front seven guys that are disruptive and that make
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: impacts and that fit this defense. And then who knows
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: maybe and then I mean I think it all really
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: no matter who you add, it comes down to Drake
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: May and Josh McDaniels really popping together.
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: It's a big thing with the Commanders is they got
- 1:33:24Speaker 7: the coaches they wanted and that we so far have
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: that on paper. So see how it goes.
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: Yeah, Yeah, to the to the point about the coverage
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: in the pass rush, that is an age old nerd
- 1:33:34Speaker 5: debate that you can come in on, Christian because we've
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: debated which one's more important and which one funnels to
- 1:33:40Speaker 5: which one for as long as I've been doing this,
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: And I think what's really cool about some of the
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: things that Bill used to do is like he would
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: go against the grain with the trend. So like when
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: everybody was buying pass rush, he bought Stefan Gilmour, right,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: and like when everybody started buying corners, then he would,
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: you know, pivot to pass rushers and go sign Matthew Judon.
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: So like Dave, these ebbs and flows and stuff like Dad,
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: when it comes to pass rusher coverage debates is kind
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: of a cool thing to track across the league, and
- 1:34:08Speaker 5: the league is always copycats. So Team Mike Philly wins
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: the Super Bowl, building it with the front seven out
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: now everybody's gonna want to build it from the front
- 1:34:15Speaker 5: seven out. So what would Bill do? He'd go sign
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: all the corners right, So it depends on which which
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: way you want to look at it.
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: Ben and Liverpool. He's got a suggestion here for the newsletter, said,
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: loving the newsletter, but I have a suggestion for something
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: that could be added to it. In addition to Email
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: of the Week, I'd love it if you could also
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: did Idiot.
- 1:34:32Speaker 7: Of the Week.
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: This could come in the form of email, phone call,
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: or even something that one of you guys says on it.
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: I definitely think I would be on the Idiot of
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: the Week a couple of times. But that's you know,
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: some some think about I don't know if we need to.
- 1:34:44Speaker 3: Be I think it's funny.
- 1:34:46Speaker 9: I would be hesitant to have our listeners and our
- 1:34:49Speaker 9: callers be labeled by that.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: I don't want to disrespect you guys.
- 1:34:53Speaker 5: You know, well it's too nice.
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: But we do want to do We do want to
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: do the Guess the Call game this off season, where
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: we're gonna get hopefully pictures of popular callers. People call
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: in a lot, you know, and we try to guess
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: who's what you know, like we got Todd North Carolina.
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: We get to your second Tod, but you know, like
- 1:35:12Speaker 4: what Todd for North Carolina look like, you know, we
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: know their voices. Yeah, but it'd be pretty fun. Christian
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: la another you know.
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: Maybe that's the avenue too, for like an evan'splaining segment.
- 1:35:24Speaker 9: Like maybe you can't get a three minute show series
- 1:35:28Speaker 9: off the ground right away, but just a little newsletter
- 1:35:31Speaker 9: segment every other week.
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: Absolutely, you pick a gloss. Maybe we could do like
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: little little gloss or you like like a little like definition.
- 1:35:42Speaker 9: Yeah, or even if it's just me getting iPhone footage
- 1:35:45Speaker 9: of you upstairs at the whiteboard, like breaking something down,
- 1:35:49Speaker 9: putting it on YouTube.
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: Shorts so exciting would be really fun. Let's actually go
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: down to Todd in North Carolina. Hey, Todd, how's how's
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: Bill doing down there? You keeping tabs on him?
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: Oh?
- 1:35:58Speaker 25: Bill is here and of people are excited for him
- 1:36:01Speaker 25: now to play against Ohio and somebody who's going to
- 1:36:03Speaker 25: try to build a defense to stop Bill.
- 1:36:05Speaker 11: So it'd be interesting.
- 1:36:08Speaker 25: It's a great show about the octogenarians. I've appreciative of this,
- 1:36:12Speaker 25: you know, just to quote our new coach, what I'm
- 1:36:16Speaker 25: looking for is, what do you think, what is your
- 1:36:20Speaker 25: ratio in your mind for hits two potential wins. I
- 1:36:23Speaker 25: know that our Los Angeles friend just kind of stole
- 1:36:26Speaker 25: my thunder because that's exactly my question on how many
- 1:36:28Speaker 25: people are we going to have to hit on to make, say,
- 1:36:31Speaker 25: you know, be around five hundred. How many people are
- 1:36:33Speaker 25: we going to have to hit on to be you know, competitive,
- 1:36:36Speaker 25: maybe even make the playoffs. And that's kind of what
- 1:36:39Speaker 25: I'm wondering now because I'm hearing a lot of different
- 1:36:41Speaker 25: things from different sources, a book just how many needs
- 1:36:44Speaker 25: there are, and from you guys. Just doing a brief
- 1:36:47Speaker 25: analysis of what you said, I think there's about five
- 1:36:51Speaker 25: to six players that we need to hit on to
- 1:36:52Speaker 25: be made even to get to five hundred. So I
- 1:36:54Speaker 25: just want to hear what you guys think about that.
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: Thanks and great show, guys, Thanks Todd. It's tough to say, right, Like,
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: I don't know exactly how to answer that because it's
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: hard to say because it can happen quickly, Like there's
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: proof that it's happened quickly in other places. You know,
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: the Chargers, the Commanders, they both just made the playoffs
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: after picking in the top five, just like the Patriots
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: the year before, so it can be done quickly. It's
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: just I think a lot of it is is like
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: coaching the talent that's currently on the roster. I think
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: that's a big part of it, is, like can they
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: get the defense back to level like can Mike Rabel
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: get this defense back to where it was in twenty
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: two and twenty three and closer to that defense just
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: by organically, you know, from within, being a better coached unit,
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: in a more fundamentally sound unit. I don't know, I
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: don't know how many players it could take or wouldn't take.
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: I think, you know, it's kind of hard.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: To say, but I just say, I think, let's just
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: say two. I feel like they need at least two
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: guys to come in and run. But to me, again,
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: the biggest thing is Drake, Like, you know, you don't
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: need twelve awesome new additions. If Drake takes a huge
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: step forward in his progress, and you know, Josh is
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: in his bag and really you know, identifies what he
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: wants to do with him, and they're able to execute it,
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, Kendrick Bourne looks a little better.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: I think to your point, Evan, it's I think they
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: were better than their talent. Sorry, their talent is better
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: than what they put on the field last year, I think.
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: And that's, you know, of course, an indictment on what
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: the coaching was last year. But still I think most
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: position groups played below what you thought. And a lot
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: of the guys that you re signed, you've seen better
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: out of Michael Windy, You've seen better out of Ramandra Stevenson,
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: and those guys regress. So I think that colors a
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: lot of of what we're talking about here. And while
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: I'm actually while I mentioned Remandre, just bendon de Main,
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: thank you for your three emails today. I'm gonna get
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: to one of them. But I appreciate the questions, and
- 1:38:42Speaker 4: I think I have been reading them, and you know,
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: usually when we touch on stuff, I can't read every email,
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: but I think we've touched on some of their stuff.
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: But with Vermondre, he says, I don't hear many acknowledges,
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: but I think the Remondre extension was a mistake. Why
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: did the Patriots pay and extend such a mid running back.
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: Putting aside the fumbling this year. Over his career, his
- 1:38:59Speaker 4: best season was barely cracking a thousand yards in seventeen games,
- 1:39:02Speaker 4: no less, with just under seventy receptions. Well that's still
- 1:39:04Speaker 4: seventy receptions, pretty good. And this was an offense where
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: we had regression Mac Jones and the best wide receiver
- 1:39:10Speaker 4: was an undrafted college QB and Jacobe Myers, so he
- 1:39:13Speaker 4: was overly used out of necessity, not talent. I'm fairly
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: certain each of you could name at least a dozen
- 1:39:17Speaker 4: rbs you would take over Mandre. I was able to
- 1:39:19Speaker 4: name eighteen and felt like I was being generous. I
- 1:39:22Speaker 4: would just say to this, I'm really interested to see
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: what Mike Rabel does with Andre to get him back
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: on the program. And the fumbling is a huge issue,
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: and to me, that's something that Mike Rabel will not
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: be forgiving of. He will not be like, well, just
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: go ahead and get back out there like they kind
- 1:39:35Speaker 4: of wore last year with him. A huge story in camp,
- 1:39:38Speaker 4: and I would just I would say, I know a
- 1:39:40Speaker 4: lot of people praise this running back class a little bit. Yep,
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: that's another spot where do you put another guy in
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: the pipeline? I kind of like Antonio Gibson. I think,
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: you know, he could maybe fit what they do, but
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: I wouldn't roll that position out in the draft.
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: I didn't like the deal at the time, so I mean,
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: you're preaching to the choir. Now that's more of like
- 1:39:57Speaker 5: a running back thing for me than it was about
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: specifically with Romandre Stevenson. But I would I would be
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: weary of paying any running back a second contract, let
- 1:40:06Speaker 5: alone a guy like Remandre I think is good but
- 1:40:09Speaker 5: not great. So you know, we'll see. I couldn't agree
- 1:40:12Speaker 5: more with the draft though, But this is a loaded
- 1:40:16Speaker 5: draft class at running back, one of the real strains
- 1:40:18Speaker 5: of the draft on the offensive side of the ball.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: So they're probably going to be twenty guys that are
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: drafted in this class that are going to be contributors
- 1:40:25Speaker 5: in some capacity at the next level. So even if
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: it's like third fourth round, I think you can still
- 1:40:31Speaker 5: get somebody that at least can be involved in the
- 1:40:33Speaker 5: committee of running backs. Maybe not like a lead back,
- 1:40:36Speaker 5: but someone that can be involved in an offense. And
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: now it's just a matter of you know, what type
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: of running back do you want it to be. Do
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: you want it to be more of like a scap back,
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: do you want to power back? Like which direction do
- 1:40:48Speaker 5: you want to go? Because there's so many options that
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: now it comes down to just picking your guy and
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: picking the skill set.
- 1:40:53Speaker 7: You can also get a running back at any point
- 1:40:55Speaker 7: in the draft. Just there's so many options. But I mean,
- 1:40:57Speaker 7: you remandre the fumbling issues on the newer side, so
- 1:41:00Speaker 7: he kind of hope he cleans that up.
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: But I mean, do you put anything any stock in
- 1:41:05Speaker 4: Derek Henry. I mean, I know Derek Henry believe was
- 1:41:07Speaker 4: there before verbel actually got there, but you put any
- 1:41:09Speaker 4: stock in him? Looking maybe a little bit more at
- 1:41:11Speaker 4: like Braylen Allen last year, that kind of big bruising,
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: you know, not shifty, but it seemed like Rabel kind
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: of wanted to have a big bruising back and a
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: little shifty back when they you know, went and got Lewis, Like, yeah,
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: maybe maybe that's their thing. Maybe they do want to
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: go back to that. I know Josh will have some
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: saying that of course as well.
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's what they were trying to do
- 1:41:28Speaker 5: with with Gibson, who I actually think it could be
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: a pretty decent running back for Josh McDaniels. I still
- 1:41:34Speaker 5: look at Gibson as a guy that can contribute in
- 1:41:36Speaker 5: the passing game and can get open online backers and
- 1:41:40Speaker 5: do that sort of thing. The James White you know
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: of it all. I think he can still be that
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: kind of player. So I'm interested to see what they
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: do with Antonio Gibson. But with Ramandre I mean he's
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: on the team for at least another year, probably two
- 1:41:54Speaker 5: with that contract, so they just got to figure out
- 1:41:56Speaker 5: a way to make it work with him.
- 1:41:57Speaker 14: Kind of.
- 1:41:59Speaker 4: All right. Uh l from Wisconsin has just a music
- 1:42:02Speaker 4: recommendation for Halftimes that that they think would would solve
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: all the problems. Uh one man who can promote all
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: genres of music and who has no baggage or hate
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: against him, Weird al Yankovic. What do you think is
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: your generation even aware.
- 1:42:14Speaker 5: Of Weird Alankovic? But like, like loosely definitely came out
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: last year that was definitely towards like the younger side
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: of my life.
- 1:42:24Speaker 3: But ye, like first discovering YouTube, Yeah, who else can perform?
- 1:42:28Speaker 7: I mean, who have they not had at this point?
- 1:42:31Speaker 7: There's some like Taylor Swift that I feel like that's it, honestly,
- 1:42:36Speaker 7: just take.
- 1:42:37Speaker 5: Well unless they like went back and got you know,
- 1:42:39Speaker 5: some of like the the you know bands.
- 1:42:42Speaker 7: Like Chili Peppers and something Chili Peppers did it when Yeah,
- 1:42:46Speaker 7: they I think they definitely did it.
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: Yeah, Like you know, I think the super Bowl next year?
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: Is it Vegas next year? So that francis San Francisco.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: So I think a lot of people are saying I
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: think Metallica might like be from San Francisco or something like. So,
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: like those types of bands, you know, this is your side.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I know you're you're speaking my language right here.
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: I enjoy it.
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: Youah, I don't. I don't know the name of these
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: bands you do.
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: So I got the one with a I'm Fat you
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: did the Fat one where you did Bad by Michael Jackson.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: I was, I was all in on that that album.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: I think I was like that this was probably this
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: is not something you guys do. But back in the day,
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: you'd have Columbia Tape House and they'd be like, send
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: us ninety nine cents, we'll send you eight tapes and
- 1:43:28Speaker 4: then over the next six months you have to buy
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: five full price and something else. But like people used
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: to use people used to scam it, like especially when
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: I was when I was away at prep school, they
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: would the would kids would like sign up for it,
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: get then they put like a fake name on it
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: and then they work in the mail room, so they
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: grabbed the CDs and it was like the things we
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: had to do before, you know, your napster and your
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: lime wire, strawberries, all these things.
- 1:43:49Speaker 7: Chili Peppers did the met Life one and remember they
- 1:43:51Speaker 7: had to unplug it because it was so decent.
- 1:43:53Speaker 3: Just right, It's like the pre recorded drama.
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: Weird now was Gangster's Paradise?
- 1:43:58Speaker 13: Right?
- 1:43:59Speaker 16: Right?
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: Yeah, that's that's what.
- 1:44:01Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:44:02Speaker 4: Well, guys, football season maybe over, but you can still
- 1:44:05Speaker 4: score major style points. This President's Day Weekend at Bob's

- 1:44:25Speaker 4: official furniture store of the New England Patriots. And with that, guys,
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: i'd like to first I'm going to tee this up
- 1:44:31Speaker 4: here before I play a clip of our of the
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: two thousand and four podcasts, so it'll be coming out
- 1:44:35Speaker 4: next week and ESPN just put out ranking was actually
- 1:44:37Speaker 4: by Aaron Shots, who you know, created our DVOA, which
- 1:44:41Speaker 4: I think we all appreciate that, and I actually spoke
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: with Aaron for this podcast because they ranked out. I
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: gotta know, I think it's like the top or whatever,
- 1:44:49Speaker 4: top fifty nine super Bowl winners, and the Patriots kind
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: of disrespected here, Like I mean, two thousand and one
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: was fifty seven, twenty eighteen was fiftieth. This is the
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: one I got the biggest problem with. Two thousand and
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: three forty seventh. That was a really good football team.
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: That was a really good football team. Twenty fourteen was
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: forty two, twenty sixteen was thirty seven, But two thousand
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: and four seventh. Overall, DVOA loves these Patriots. It was
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: a great team. I think everybody kind of agrees that
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: this was, you know, the best Patriots team of the dynasty.
- 1:45:19Speaker 4: I know we could talk about like if you get
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: down to brass tacks and the seven team had to
- 1:45:23Speaker 4: play the four team, how might it have gone. But
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: I just wanted to share a quick clip here with
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: you guys from the podcast that'll be coming out Monday.
- 1:45:29Speaker 4: This is This is Matt Patricia. This was his first year.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: He came into the NFL as an offensive assistant, coaching
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: with Dante Scarnekia. And here's what Matt Patricia had to
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: say just about that Patriots defense that I think was,
- 1:45:40Speaker 4: you know, one of the greatest defenses of all time.
- 1:45:42Speaker 4: The Patriots had built a veteran defense that was in
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: its prime, coming off a two thousand and three season
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: in which they ranked first in the NFL in points.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: This group had game changing talent on all three levels.
- 1:45:53Speaker 4: The only question was how good this defense could be.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: Matt Patricia, offensive assistant.
- 1:45:58Speaker 12: Those guys were so competitive that it was a room
- 1:46:01Speaker 12: full of alphas.
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: I mean every single one of them.
- 1:46:04Speaker 12: So, I mean I would walk in the linebacker room
- 1:46:06Speaker 12: and honestly, I wasn't sure if if I was going
- 1:46:09Speaker 12: to be coaching football or fighting. Like I was like, okay,
- 1:46:11Speaker 12: well maybe we might be fighting today. I have no
- 1:46:13Speaker 12: idea what's gonna happen. I mean you would literally walk
- 1:46:15Speaker 12: in and you know, Willie McGinnis would walk by Izzo
- 1:46:18Speaker 12: and he'd like, you know, just like walk by and
- 1:46:20Speaker 12: be like, yep, you're dry I got the edge on
- 1:46:23Speaker 12: you today and they're talking about hydration, you know, And
- 1:46:25Speaker 12: so now Larry's in the back of the room chugging
- 1:46:27Speaker 12: waters and I'm like.
- 1:46:28Speaker 7: What are you doing?
- 1:46:29Speaker 12: And he's like, he's like, he's not gonna be more
- 1:46:30Speaker 12: hydrated than I am.
- 1:46:31Speaker 16: I'm like, are you kidding me right now?
- 1:46:32Speaker 12: Like this is what we're you know, or you know,
- 1:46:34Speaker 12: Brude walk in with a book, like you know, they
- 1:46:37Speaker 12: didn't carry the playbooks because they knew the playbook. They
- 1:46:39Speaker 12: He'd walk in with like a regular book and'd be like,
- 1:46:41Speaker 12: what are you doing, Like I read two books last night,
- 1:46:44Speaker 12: just trying to edge, you know. It was like, you
- 1:46:46Speaker 12: guys are insane, Like you're insane.
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: But competitive worked hard.
- 1:46:51Speaker 12: We brought everybody back for OTAs and we still had
- 1:46:54Speaker 12: that first practice. I just remember the noise of the defense,
- 1:46:59Speaker 12: the the communication, but it was just it was so loud,
- 1:47:04Speaker 12: so clean, so clear, so just like locked in focus.
- 1:47:10Speaker 12: It just sounded like a machine and you were like, wow,
- 1:47:13Speaker 12: like these guys are unreal. And I remember, you know,
- 1:47:16Speaker 12: with Braves too. The one thing that was amazing to
- 1:47:18Speaker 12: me about Mike Rabel. You know, you're in college football
- 1:47:23Speaker 12: world and every year it was like, hey, we got
- 1:47:25Speaker 12: to get to training camp to get in shape. I
- 1:47:28Speaker 12: just thought with these guys, like you could have called
- 1:47:29Speaker 12: them any month, You could have called them in April
- 1:47:33Speaker 12: and they would have been able to play a three
- 1:47:34Speaker 12: hour football game at the highest level. They were always
- 1:47:37Speaker 12: in shape. Mike Rabel was always he was never out
- 1:47:40Speaker 12: of shape. It was just amazing to me the level
- 1:47:43Speaker 12: of professionalism that these guys held each other to and
- 1:47:46Speaker 12: they held themselves too.
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: Yeah, so there it is. That that's episode one. Three episodes,
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: so the first one kind of covers the preseason training
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: camp leading up regular season, in the playoffs, and a
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: little reflection. So hope you guys will check that out.
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: Matty p was great as you probably hurt him now,
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: and of course now he's the new Ohio State defensive coordinator,
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: so we'll see. I kind of felt like you needed
- 1:48:05Speaker 4: a break though. He seemed like man. We joke about
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: coaches working long hours and putting time in, and from
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: talking to Matt Patricia, it sounds like he was like
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: person a one who was here way too much and
- 1:48:16Speaker 4: never left and never saw his family and just put
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: everything he had into this job. So hopefully this year
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: offend him a little bit of good But hope you
- 1:48:24Speaker 4: guys check that podcast out here as as we round
- 1:48:27Speaker 4: down the final fifteen minutes or so here, just wanted
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: to read this one email from Adam and Louisiana. He said,
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: what does success look like to y'all for the Patriots
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: next season? What is the cutoff of wins that you
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: would say that this season was a failure. I think
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: anything under seven wins is a failure of a season.
- 1:48:41Speaker 4: Not enough to fire Vrabel, but definitely a reason for concern.
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: What do you guys think?
- 1:48:46Speaker 7: I think seven's on the dot, maybe like eight on,
- 1:48:49Speaker 7: Like there were so many games this year that you
- 1:48:51Speaker 7: feel like could have went the other way, So the
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: team should be better next year with better coaching. I
- 1:48:55Speaker 7: feel like, so anything on the sevens of disappointment to me,
- 1:48:58Speaker 7: it's funny how like.
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: They I mean, you got to see it, like I
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: Paul's being on that, like you got to show me
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: what it looks like because some of the you know,
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: some of the games from last year, you hear players
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: kind of being like, we lost six one score games. Well,
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: I mean yeah, technically, but Chiefs, we're really in it,
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: Like we're really in it. I don't know, uh but
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: I think you know, you're gonna know when you see it.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: I think that to me and that and that's just
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: the vibe I get from, you know, talking of Rabel
- 1:49:24Speaker 4: a little bit here, and you know, just like the
- 1:49:27Speaker 4: like the like we were saying earlier. He just seems
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: like he knows what he's doing. He's got a plan.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: He learned from what he did in his first coaching experience.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: He took a year to maybe even step back a
- 1:49:36Speaker 4: little bit and really hone in on what am I
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: going to do when this next opportunity comes. I mean
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: I saw a league poll. I'm not sure who put
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: it out, but the Patriots hiring of Rabel was like,
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: by far the most you know, liked move of the
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: offseason in terms of head coaching. Uh So, I like,
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: I love the move, but you guys know, it's the NFL.
- 1:49:55Speaker 7: You never know.
- 1:49:56Speaker 4: I mean, it doesn't that doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: work out and this team is going to be the
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: team that I think it should be in the in
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: the model of Mike Rabel and the style of a smart,
- 1:50:04Speaker 4: tough football player that that he was. But that being said,
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: I think six seven wins is about where you feel
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: like this team would be back and let's start making.
- 1:50:13Speaker 7: It's tough because you don't want to turn into like,
- 1:50:15Speaker 7: you know, the toxic Pats fan. Look at the other teams,
- 1:50:17Speaker 7: but then like you look at the schedule, play the
- 1:50:19Speaker 7: Jets twice. Oh, I know it.
- 1:50:22Speaker 9: Said we have to take advantage of basketball.
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: So I guess that's the coach.
- 1:50:27Speaker 7: You don't know who their quarterback is going to be,
- 1:50:28Speaker 7: so like the you can get there. That's why I
- 1:50:30Speaker 7: think anything under seven is pretty disappointing.
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I always have a tough time putting them like
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: because it's not and we have such a long way
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: to go in terms of the roster building aspect of it.
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: Like after the draft, I feel like we'll have a
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: better idea.
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: Of we readdressed this.
- 1:50:47Speaker 9: I think after free agency and after the draft, maybe
- 1:50:49Speaker 9: right before preseason you can dress more of those intangibles
- 1:50:53Speaker 9: in the month.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: If they have Josh Swenton to Higgins on this team,
- 1:50:56Speaker 5: and I'm obviously going to feel a lot better than
- 1:50:57Speaker 5: I do, right, Yeah, go higher than I'm gonna have
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: a pretty high standard I feel like for this team
- 1:51:03Speaker 5: because I have seen it done in other places. Would
- 1:51:07Speaker 5: not necessarily go all the way to the NFC Championship
- 1:51:09Speaker 5: game like the Commanders did. But you see quick turnarounds
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: in the league happen more often than not, especially when
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: you have the quarterback. So I feel like this team
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: should be in it towards the end of the season.
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: Like I don't think that they should have irrelevant games
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: post Thanksgiving like we've had the last couple of years.
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: I shouldn't be watching draft film for the twenty twenty
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: sixth draft on Thanksgiving right, Like we should be able
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: to wait for that until January this time around. Like that,
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: I feel like they should have relevant competitive football games
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: down the stretch this coming up season and be in
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: the mix. Now, will they make the playoffs? It's probably lofty,
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: but like they should be vying for the seventh you know,
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: see the final wild card spot, like you're nine to
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: eight eight nine, like somewhere in that category.
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: Oh got me excited there in them? Yeah, seconds in
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: the mix of the playoffs. Should be to back the
- 1:52:00Speaker 4: TPX hotline. Stephen is in Pasadena. Another call from la Hey, Stephen,
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: what's going on?
- 1:52:06Speaker 14: Hey, guys, big fan. I wanted to touch a little
- 1:52:10Speaker 14: bit on the emailer about Watemala. I lived there for
- 1:52:14Speaker 14: eleven years and actually graduated high school there. But anyway, recommendations.
- 1:52:20Speaker 14: It's like thirty minutes away from the Watemalan airport.
- 1:52:23Speaker 11: It's called tay La.
- 1:52:24Speaker 14: It's uh, it's very nice. It's like a promenade and
- 1:52:29Speaker 14: there's even a hotel there and but they have like
- 1:52:31Speaker 14: Starbucks and other coffee shops, bars, the whole thing.
- 1:52:34Speaker 11: So that should be a good time. And for Alex
- 1:52:36Speaker 11: next time you go.
- 1:52:38Speaker 14: There's this place called Lake Atitlan.
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: Oh, I'm familiar being.
- 1:52:43Speaker 14: It's one of the most beautiful lad Ye bucket lists
- 1:52:45Speaker 14: and it's it's being it's surrounded by three volcanos, so uh,
- 1:52:50Speaker 14: you read in Airbnb there it's pretty It's gonna be
- 1:52:53Speaker 14: a pretty good time.
- 1:52:54Speaker 7: So that's it.
- 1:52:56Speaker 14: One thing about the Patriots I did want to touch
- 1:52:57Speaker 14: on is I just read that, uh Trev Unter is
- 1:53:01Speaker 14: going to work out at the Combine as a defensive back.
- 1:53:04Speaker 14: So does that change the strategy? Would you still take
- 1:53:08Speaker 14: them and convince them or you know what would you
- 1:53:10Speaker 14: do if you were the past that guy?
- 1:53:13Speaker 5: Take care? Thanks thanks Steven. Yeah, that came out this
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: morning that he was listening with the defensive backs. It's
- 1:53:19Speaker 5: an interesting little wrinkle.
- 1:53:21Speaker 23: You know.
- 1:53:21Speaker 5: Usually they do try to uh, you know, there's like
- 1:53:24Speaker 5: a committee that decides who gets invited to the combine,
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: and usually the committee will give advice to draft prospects like,
- 1:53:32Speaker 5: you know, maybe go back, you know you're not ready
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: and you're you're not going to get drafted where you
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: want to go, or you know you are ready as
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: an underclassman to to enter, you know, and doesn't usually
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: come down of which position the guy's gonna play. Usually
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: that's pretty cut and dry. But they're obviously saying that
- 1:53:47Speaker 5: the NFL zeitgeist is calling him a corner and and
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: so I don't I do think that changes a little
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: bit of how I would view him as a patriot prospect.
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: I still think he's a good enough corner to draft
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: him in the top four. But you know, we get
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: into the whole positional value and you know, needs and
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: all that kind of stuff, and it's not a need,
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: it's not a glaring need like some of the other things.
- 1:54:11Speaker 5: So I do think you have to consider it.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: Claire checking in from West Midland's UK. Hello everyone Holiday,
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: Hey girl. She just wanted to say, just throw a

- 1:55:41Speaker 5: it's our birthday birthday today and then Valentine's Day tomorrow.
- 1:55:45Speaker 5: So it's a tough back to back weekends. Our household
- 1:55:48Speaker 5: so so.
- 1:55:49Speaker 4: Late and I were We're coming up on our eighteenth
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: wedding anniversary. So our thing is we just like she'll
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: look at me, like, so are we doing anything for
- 1:55:54Speaker 4: each other for Valentine's Day? Because I got to put

- 1:56:02Speaker 4: you got.
- 1:56:03Speaker 5: So you go to dinner with your kids, go to
- 1:56:05Speaker 5: dinner with our kids.
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: Well, as I said, they were made by our love,
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: so I figured we should all all go together. And uh,
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: you know, no, Valentine's up in the office. So today, no,
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: we're not we're not doing secret trading.
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: Maybe there is amazing some cards and you guys is cards.
- 1:56:20Speaker 7: And candy candy something going means candy bull.
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, real quick.
- 1:56:25Speaker 9: I thought of something during that clip The Killers, Oh yeah,
- 1:56:30Speaker 9: haven't done a super Bowl?
- 1:56:32Speaker 4: Okay?
- 1:56:33Speaker 3: Opened with mister Bright's Side.
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: Pretty good?
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe close with when when we were young? What's that?
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: I love somebody?
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: All those things I've done.
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: Yeah, they got they got a good kill a few.
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: I think it's I think it's pretty good. I mean
- 1:56:48Speaker 4: that's you know rock genre.
- 1:56:49Speaker 5: Right You're talking about like like bands that have anthems
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: and stuff that can really like at the stadium juices.
- 1:56:56Speaker 9: I feel like Mister bright Side is bigger than ever
- 1:56:58Speaker 9: now than it even was when it came out.
- 1:57:00Speaker 4: Is it hot on the TikTok? All of this sudden again?
- 1:57:02Speaker 3: The weddings, weddings, sports, games.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: Sports is big, you know, yeah right now? Like the
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: bit right Side single, And it's not the best song
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: to me, it's a good one because like you either
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: have to go to the anthem rock band route that
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: like plays stadiums and like knows that sort of thing,
- 1:57:19Speaker 5: or I feel like you have to go with like
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: a performer because dancer.
- 1:57:23Speaker 7: And r Carrey would kill it.
- 1:57:25Speaker 3: Does she still have the pipes like that?
- 1:57:27Speaker 7: I'd be jamming out to Maria carry way the work.
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: I gotta kill her some underrated Uh. They did a
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: recent album, Pressure Machine is in a song that they
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: did that. I really liked this a little Bit's totally
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: not the killers that you're talking about on Super Bowl Killers,
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: But actually I did when I worked Boston Calling. They
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: performed there and kind of high maintenance, kind of high maintenance.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: They needed, you know, very things, people to be shot
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: certain ways and so, you know, but they're familiar with
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: the festival crowds. So yeah, I like it. I like it.
- 1:57:56Speaker 9: We'll connect with the young kids and all these things
- 1:57:58Speaker 9: I've done. Is just like one of my favorite songs
- 1:58:00Speaker 9: in general.
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: So yeah, that's a good one.
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: Good.
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: Nobody went to that Boston Calling for the Killer, so
- 1:58:05Speaker 7: they went for M and m oh.
- 1:58:07Speaker 5: Right, well yeah, how dairy see that?
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: Eminem closed it out and obviously, but as a member
- 1:58:12Speaker 4: of the crew, like I was working on my face,
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: I was so close. Oh really, oh you were there.
- 1:58:19Speaker 3: Again.
- 1:58:19Speaker 5: He saved it in a ziploc bag.
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: He has it in a vial somewhere.
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: It's It's funny you say that, Matt, because so as
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: I was part of the video crew. That was the
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: last show and we had to start breaking things down.
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: And I've never been a marine, I've never been to
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: Paras Island, I've never done Navy seal training. But if
- 1:58:33Speaker 4: there was a night of my life that I had,
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: like the hardest night of my life, it was that
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: night because we had to break down everything that night.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: It was raining, if I don't know if I recall,
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: it was raining. We're pulling cable under stages and in mud,
- 1:58:45Speaker 4: and I just reached the point where I was like delirious,
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: like just rolling cable. I'm like, I don't know where
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: I am. It was like, you know, four or five
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: in the morning, we've been like trying to break everything down.
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: One of the hardest nights of my life. But yeah,
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: that's that's my I just remember flying in the golf
- 1:58:59Speaker 4: carts and clean up and here in eminem go and
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: be like that'd be kind of cool to listen to
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: this right now, And I'm like, here, Edward, did you
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: hear drug Maddie? No, I saw you the day afterwards. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: Well I think that's gonna do it for us here
