- 0:04Speaker 1: We're in where we are.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hi, I'm Alexander Philippe, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Movie Meltdown.
- 0:26Speaker 2: What's up? Welcome to Moving Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 0:29Speaker 4: I'm Phillip.
- 0:29Speaker 2: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from, uh,
- 0:32Speaker 2: here we go. Where are we at? Have you named
- 0:35Speaker 2: your wonderful new home that you live in?
- 0:38Speaker 4: I call it the firehouse.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I mean, it is actually a firehouse.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I didn't put a whole lot of energy into naming
- 0:45Speaker 4: it because it, you know, you got a classic, so
- 0:48Speaker 4: why mess with it?
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm a little upset there's no poll, but you know,
- 0:52Speaker 2: just saying.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Man, that's the first thing everyone asks me about this place. Uh,
- 0:58Speaker 4: if they're here, they say, where's the pole? If they're,
- 1:01Speaker 4: if I'm just telling them about it, they say, does
- 1:04Speaker 4: it still have a pole? And, um, Getting sick of
- 1:08Speaker 4: being asked about it, if I'm being honest. No, I
- 1:10Speaker 4: don't mind you asking.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Well, no, I'm just saying, as you know many times
- 1:15Speaker 2: we've discussed it, I worked in a place that had
- 1:17Speaker 2: a fire pole. Sure. That was not a firehouse currently,
- 1:20Speaker 2: but once again had in a former life many years
- 1:23Speaker 2: earlier been a firehouse. And they plugged it up because
- 1:27Speaker 2: they were jerks.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Well, my upstairs neighbor thinks she's figured out where it's at.
- 1:31Speaker 4: And she said in the corner of her living room,
- 1:33Speaker 4: there's a box attached to the floor that With a
- 1:37Speaker 4: lid that she hasn't, she said she's afraid to open.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Sounds like we need a crowbar.
- 1:42Speaker 4: Because.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Let's go to town on this thing.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Well, she's afraid she's going to be looking down into
- 1:46Speaker 4: my apartment.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Probably. Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Which I would be okay with.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I mean, we still need the pole, otherwise you're just
- 1:53Speaker 2: going to fall.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, that in and of itself, but.
- 1:57Speaker 4: This probably didn't... That's what somebody else suggested.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Because that's about the size of the hole, actually. We're
- 2:03Speaker 2: looking at the area where the ceiling fixture is, and
- 2:07Speaker 2: there's a big sort of square there that's about the
- 2:09Speaker 2: size of the hole of the other firehouse setup.
- 2:12Speaker 4: So, could be. Could be, but the way she described it,
- 2:18Speaker 4: the box that she found it was over in the corner.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We're going to have to travel back in time. That's
- 2:24Speaker 2: all there is to it.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Oh, I would love to.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I was thinking that the other day as a picture
- 2:28Speaker 2: of a, again, being the geek that I am, a
- 2:31Speaker 2: movie theater popped up and we had so many awesome
- 2:34Speaker 2: movie theaters in our town. And it was one that
- 2:36Speaker 2: like I just in the last few years figured out
- 2:40Speaker 2: like it used to be there because like it's on
- 2:42Speaker 2: a street that I'm on all the time. And like
- 2:45Speaker 2: it's been leveled for years now. So I'm like, son
- 2:48Speaker 2: of a bitch, because this looks really cool. And like
- 2:50Speaker 2: I would have liked to have seen this. So. time
- 2:53Speaker 2: traveling just to go visit old timey movie theaters and
- 2:56Speaker 2: slide down your fireball.
- 2:57Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 2: These are the important things in life.
- 3:00Speaker 4: That. And, uh, I would also like to go back
- 3:03Speaker 4: in time so I can play with the Dalmatian that's
- 3:05Speaker 4: buried in the side yard.
- 3:06Speaker 2: So, I mean, ghost dog. So you got that, man.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Okay. So for those of you listening at home, uh,
- 3:15Speaker 4: obviously my apartment is in a decommissioned firehouse, but, The
- 3:20Speaker 4: day I moved in, I noticed that there was a
- 3:22Speaker 4: grave marker for the old fire dog that used to
- 3:26Speaker 4: live here. So I was super excited, hoping that I
- 3:29Speaker 4: would get a ghost dog with my apartment. And so far,
- 3:33Speaker 4: no such luck.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I mean, I assume he's here. Maybe he's just, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 2: he's a well-behaved dog. He's controlling himself.
- 3:41Speaker 4: He's apparently a very good boy. He must be a
- 3:43Speaker 4: good boy. I mean, they built a people-sized gravestone.
- 3:46Speaker 2: They actually buried him on the premises and gave him
- 3:49Speaker 2: a headstone and everything. That's pretty impressive. It's more than
- 3:53Speaker 2: I'm going to get in problem. Just going to dump
- 3:55Speaker 2: me out back in a cardboard box or something.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I've already got the coffee can picked up.
- 4:03Speaker 2: On that cheery note, hey, we're a little different this time,
- 4:07Speaker 2: so I guess we have to give you the updates now.
- 4:10Speaker 2: the important Meltdown Horror Club news, because this is technically
- 4:13Speaker 2: not a Horror Club episode, because one of our peoples
- 4:17Speaker 2: is gone, so we're all taking our government-sanctioned maternity leave. Mm-hmm.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I mean, you and I might be impregnated with aliens.
- 4:26Speaker 4: It's possible.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I figure. I feel like the movie gave.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Me alien baby eggs.
- 4:32Speaker 2: So we're probably, we're going to cane it on this
- 4:35Speaker 2: table in a little while. So, Yeah, we're probably also impregnated.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So just for that sake, we'll all take our maternity
- 4:44Speaker 2: leave from the horror club. We still gotta come do this.
- 4:47Speaker 2: But that other slacker's off like having a child. We
- 4:51Speaker 2: miss you, Nora.
- 4:53Speaker 4: We do.
- 4:53Speaker 2: She said she'll be up at 3 a.m. listening. That
- 4:57Speaker 2: also sucks for you. But you get a baby, I guess,
- 5:00Speaker 2: if you want one of those. So we're taking a
- 5:04Speaker 2: break from our typical horror-specific stuff. I guess. I don't know.
- 5:10Speaker 2: We're just sort of winging it at this point. But
- 5:12Speaker 2: I said since we're letting her out for a little while,
- 5:16Speaker 2: that gives us an excuse to do other stuff so
- 5:19Speaker 2: we can mix it up and do some other weird things.
- 5:22Speaker 2: So who doesn't want to do weird things? I mean,
- 5:24Speaker 2: when we're involved, obviously.
- 5:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it's not that I want to do them.
- 5:28Speaker 4: It just happens.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we're already going to be doing them,
- 5:31Speaker 2: so we might as well just roll with it.
- 5:33Speaker 4: May as well document it.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. That's what I'm thinking. So we also.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Are heading into the holidays. I know it's 900 degrees
- 5:42Speaker 2: outside right now where we're at, but, you know, it'll
- 5:46Speaker 2: be very quickly. We're in the middle of the holiday season,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and by that I mean Halloween. I don't care about
- 5:50Speaker 2: that other nonsense. Not really. I mean, not compared to Halloween.
- 5:54Speaker 4: The other holidays can go screw.
- 5:55Speaker 2: The others are fine. I like them the week before
- 5:59Speaker 2: it happens. Not two months before it happens, but the
- 6:02Speaker 2: week before it happens. I'm like, oh, look, trees and lights.
- 6:04Speaker 4: That's all fine.
- 6:05Speaker 2: But yeah, so we're going to do something for those,
- 6:09Speaker 2: I suppose. But we told Nora that last session, you're
- 6:14Speaker 2: not getting out of this ongoing punishment that we've had
- 6:18Speaker 2: of Silent Night Deadly. You're not escaping that just because
- 6:22Speaker 2: this kid came along and rescued you. No, no, no, no, no.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So we're just pushing pause on that horrifying series. And
- 6:29Speaker 2: then we'll get back.
- 6:30Speaker 4: That was her plan.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Maybe. I mean, she conveniently mapped it out. So she'd
- 6:35Speaker 2: have a Halloween baby and then still kind of be like, well,
- 6:39Speaker 2: it's a little too soon. I'm taking her this kid.
- 6:41Speaker 2: You guys enjoy that terrible movie. Tell Mickey Rudy I
- 6:45Speaker 2: said hi. And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 6:47Speaker 2: We're going to hold off. So that way we can
- 6:50Speaker 2: keep this series going for all eternity. Because by then
- 6:53Speaker 2: I'm sure the reboot part two will be out or.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Whatever else is going to come in this series.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Well, I'm angered by her trickery, but I'm in awe
- 7:02Speaker 4: of her genius.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Impressed, really, because that's also a really big biological grand scheme.
- 7:09Speaker 2: So it's impressive, really.
- 7:11Speaker 4: It really is. Well done, Nora.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I mean, she's the kind of smart character that gets
- 7:16Speaker 2: on Jeopardy.
- 7:16Speaker 4: That is also true.
- 7:17Speaker 2: You know, I'm not surprised.
- 7:20Speaker 4: Meanwhile, the two of us can barely tie our own shoes.
- 7:23Speaker 2: These are velcro. Anyway, yeah, so that's the main things
- 7:28Speaker 2: we're passing along is that we're taking a break from
- 7:33Speaker 2: our normal horror type stuff. We'll be back. We're figuring
- 7:37Speaker 2: out which ridiculous holiday related things we're going to do,
- 7:42Speaker 2: but not necessarily the traditional horror that we do every
- 7:45Speaker 2: other year because we have an excuse to do something weird.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So weirdness, that's what we have in our future.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah. That having been said, we're also in this other location.
- 7:58Speaker 2: So thank you for letting us come hang out at
- 8:01Speaker 2: the firehouse.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Not a problem. I'm just happy to have company for once.
- 8:05Speaker 2: I don't even have an option at the old Oddity Studios.
- 8:10Speaker 2: It's still there, but it's packed with so much stuff.
- 8:13Speaker 2: That's why we're always at the Kitty Corral. So now
- 8:17Speaker 2: that she's doing her own kitty thing, I still think
- 8:20Speaker 2: those cats are going to team up on that baby.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Oh yeah, absolutely.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's a whole nother avenue. So yeah, now we had
- 8:26Speaker 2: to find a new location. So mine's out of control
- 8:29Speaker 2: as per usual. I thought this was so me. I
- 8:34Speaker 2: thought I would share it with you and give pretty
- 8:37Speaker 2: good excuse of why you can't like sit anything down
- 8:40Speaker 2: to record at my home. Last weekend, I got not one,
- 8:45Speaker 2: but quite a few RCA video discs.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Now, I was looking at them as I'm hauling them home. Now, granted,
- 8:56Speaker 2: at least, because I will discuss my poverty most of
- 8:58Speaker 2: the time, at least I did find them for relatively cheap. Yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 2: And they were weird titles. I didn't even know were
- 9:05Speaker 2: on this. That's why I was like, ah, son of
- 9:07Speaker 2: a bitch, I kind of need this.
- 9:08Speaker 4: I can't.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Go off and leave this. So there were several of
- 9:12Speaker 2: them that I'm like, okay, I don't know what the
- 9:15Speaker 2: hell I'm going to do with these. To me, they're
- 9:17Speaker 2: kind of nice for display because they're so big. And
- 9:19Speaker 2: some of them have different artwork that I haven't seen
- 9:22Speaker 2: even on the VHS boxes of that era. So that
- 9:25Speaker 2: was my reasoning is what I told myself. I also
- 9:28Speaker 2: have a problem.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I wasn't going to say anything.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Well, I've come to terms with it. I don't know
- 9:35Speaker 2: how to physically put everything anywhere. but so yeah, I'm
- 9:39Speaker 2: toting home a big stack of RCA picture disc. If
- 9:42Speaker 2: you don't know what that is, you're going to have
- 9:43Speaker 2: to like Google it. It's not even laser disc lame,
- 9:47Speaker 2: which I also have boxes of those sitting somewhere, but no,
- 9:51Speaker 2: this is even more, I was like, this is the
- 9:53Speaker 2: most outdated form of physical media that ever was like
- 9:58Speaker 2: mass produced. And I just, bought a big stack of them.
- 10:02Speaker 2: That was maybe the most me thing I'd seen me
- 10:05Speaker 2: do in a while.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Sure.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, yeah, not only am I buying physical media,
- 10:10Speaker 2: not only am I buying a dead physical media, I'm
- 10:12Speaker 2: buying the most dead physical media.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Yep, that's me.
- 10:17Speaker 2: So that's why we're not at my place because there's
- 10:20Speaker 2: stacks of things of that nature. Now take that and
- 10:23Speaker 2: multiply it by like a thousand other dumb random super
- 10:26Speaker 2: geek oriented things and that's my home. Hoarder's Path. That's
- 10:31Speaker 2: what I'm dealing with at this point.
- 10:32Speaker 4: I am trying so hard to not develop one of those.
- 10:36Speaker 2: It's a fight.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Every day it's a fight.
- 10:40Speaker 2: So anyway now that we're not specifically doing horror I
- 10:45Speaker 2: don't have to ask creepy, this opens it up to
- 10:48Speaker 2: whatever we want. So, have you seen any movies lately?
- 10:55Speaker 4: No. Actually, I've been getting caught up on TV shows
- 11:00Speaker 4: that I hadn't been watching.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Feel free to throw those in.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Well, I've been watching the new Rick and Morty spinoff,
- 11:11Speaker 4: President Curtis.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I was gonna ask where you are in the I
- 11:16Speaker 2: don't even know, like, Rick and Morty, where you stand
- 11:19Speaker 2: on that. I enjoy it. Because some people, that's the thing,
- 11:21Speaker 2: I like it. Have you seen the new season? Because
- 11:24Speaker 2: I just realized it was out and then went, oh, wait,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I think the thing I just had to sign up
- 11:29Speaker 2: for to watch a movie a couple of weeks back
- 11:31Speaker 2: now also has those, so I just started watching the
- 11:34Speaker 2: new season of Rick and Morty.
- 11:35Speaker 4: I think I'm on episode, or I just finished episode
- 11:39Speaker 4: eight or nine of it.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I just am like two, no, three in.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Just this weekend, so. before we get to the president,
- 11:49Speaker 2: I'll just say, and this has been maybe since the beginning,
- 11:53Speaker 2: but definitely these last several seasons, I'm like, it's sort
- 11:57Speaker 2: of all or nothing with them. It's like, they are,
- 11:59Speaker 2: I mean, they're all silly, but they're silly, like goofy
- 12:05Speaker 2: adventure of the week going on this week. And then heavy,
- 12:10Speaker 2: like there are some that are just so dark that
- 12:13Speaker 2: I'm just like, wow. I mean the, the spaghetti episode
- 12:18Speaker 2: last season. Oh my God.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Wow.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I was just like, don't get me wrong. This
- 12:23Speaker 2: is maybe one of the most impressive stories I've ever seen.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And no one would bother to tell this level of
- 12:30Speaker 2: a God awful story with this devotion to how dark
- 12:35Speaker 2: it is. So I'm like, I'm impressed and it's good storytelling,
- 12:40Speaker 2: but also good God, this is dark. It's just harsh.
- 12:47Speaker 2: And then we had the, I guess, second one, I think,
- 12:50Speaker 2: this one, where he goes on his vacation.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Yeah, that one was a little heavy. That was probably
- 12:55Speaker 4: the heaviest one I've seen this new season.
- 12:58Speaker 2: But, I mean, like, those are the ones that make
- 12:59Speaker 2: me want to come back and watch it. Because then
- 13:02Speaker 2: we got to the other, like, this third one was
- 13:05Speaker 2: just sort of like, hey, super fun adventures. And I'm
- 13:08Speaker 2: just like, yeah, that was fun. But, like, it doesn't
- 13:10Speaker 2: make it any different than any other, like, Adult Swim
- 13:13Speaker 2: kind of made-for-grown-ups animated show.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Versus like the one where he goes on vacation and
- 13:19Speaker 2: you get to that last line in that episode and
- 13:21Speaker 2: I'm just like, fuck. I'm just like, and that's, I'm like, well,
- 13:25Speaker 2: that's what sets you apart. Like when you do those,
- 13:28Speaker 2: that's what makes your show a cut above the other
- 13:31Speaker 2: run of the mill goings on out there. And don't
- 13:34Speaker 2: get me wrong, there's plenty of people who have issues
- 13:36Speaker 2: with it and it deserves its issues, certainly with its creators.
- 13:40Speaker 2: But as the episodes go, yeah, I'm like, it's still,
- 13:44Speaker 2: it's still, telling an important story in a way because
- 13:48Speaker 2: it's doing something different than a lot of other shows
- 13:51Speaker 2: out there.
- 13:52Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's when you really... I mean, you don't
- 13:54Speaker 4: really have to dig that hard, but when you start
- 13:57Speaker 4: getting into the underlying themes of loneliness and depression and just...
- 14:04Speaker 4: It's so dark.
- 14:06Speaker 1: It's dark.
- 14:07Speaker 2: And just always... This is my favorite. It always finds
- 14:13Speaker 2: a way to just... dick it to you in the
- 14:15Speaker 2: end yeah like even like you you would almost write
- 14:18Speaker 2: off rick as a character like he's just at times
- 14:23Speaker 2: like you you can't redeem him anymore like he's done
- 14:26Speaker 2: so many horrible things you're just but then there'll be
- 14:28Speaker 2: that one episode you're just like oh look now he
- 14:31Speaker 2: he really went out of his way to go save
- 14:33Speaker 2: morty and he really he kind of showed in his
- 14:35Speaker 2: own way that he loves morty and then like there's
- 14:37Speaker 2: always a cutting their legs out from under you in
- 14:40Speaker 2: that last second of just like son of bitch, he
- 14:43Speaker 2: did it again. Like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's the Vindicators
- 14:49Speaker 2: episode is always like, I think of, it's like, is
- 14:52Speaker 2: that the other superheroes? And he built like the little
- 14:56Speaker 2: ride thing while he's drunk. And like, by the end,
- 14:59Speaker 2: you're just like, Oh, look what he did. He really
- 15:02Speaker 2: loves Morty. It's all great. And then like the reveal
- 15:04Speaker 2: at the end, I'm like, ah, fuck you guys. Fuck
- 15:08Speaker 2: you guys.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 2: You guys suck. Except, Damn, that's impressive. So, yeah, it's
- 15:14Speaker 2: such a double-edged sword, but it's still kind of impressive
- 15:18Speaker 2: at doing when it's at its peak, which is also
- 15:22Speaker 2: its darkest. So, anyway, your show. The President.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Oh, President Curtis. Yeah, it's a spinoff featuring President Curtis,
- 15:33Speaker 4: who is oftentimes... On Rick and Morty, he is.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I mean, they're not enemies, but they're... Rick and Morty
- 15:44Speaker 4: are often called to do favors for the president, and
- 15:48Speaker 4: now he has his own standalone show, and it's got potential.
- 15:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's a little too early to say just
- 15:55Speaker 4: how good it could be, but Have you seen it yet?
- 16:00Speaker 2: I saw the promo for it during these new episodes,
- 16:02Speaker 2: so I at least know more or less what they're doing.
- 16:05Speaker 2: So they don't have any crossover on these episodes?
- 16:08Speaker 4: Well, in the very first episode, they make a cameo appearance.
- 16:11Speaker 2: In true spinoff form.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And yeah, my one complaint is probably
- 16:20Speaker 4: a bit too strong. But it's an ensemble cast of
- 16:24Speaker 4: three characters. And right now, sometimes it feels like there's
- 16:27Speaker 4: one character too many. But I can't figure out which
- 16:31Speaker 4: character they would benefit by getting rid of.
- 16:36Speaker 2: Just out of those three? Yeah. That's interesting. Because I
- 16:39Speaker 2: have to say, over the seasons, I love when they
- 16:42Speaker 2: throw Summer in. Yeah. So I like the addition of that.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Or the... throwing in the evil Morty this time with
- 16:50Speaker 2: the season. It was interesting. I was like, Oh, there's
- 16:52Speaker 2: a third wheel. I didn't see coming.
- 16:53Speaker 4: So, well, in this one he's cause it's, it's president
- 16:56Speaker 4: Curtis and it's, it's, uh, his like chief secret service guy.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Who's half leprechaun. Of course. And then they've got, there's
- 17:06Speaker 4: a cyborg who I don't, I don't remember what her
- 17:08Speaker 4: actual title is. Um, but it's like, those two are
- 17:14Speaker 4: almost competing for story time.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 4: And then President Curtis is kind of like the Jerry Seinfeld,
- 17:20Speaker 4: where he's the middle of everything that revolves around him.
- 17:25Speaker 2: What's the deal with this country? Yeah. But yeah, it
- 17:28Speaker 2: looked fun. I want to at least check it out.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I don't know how long I'll have this, so I
- 17:35Speaker 2: kind of want to knock out the Rick and Morty season. Sure,
- 17:37Speaker 2: fair enough. See if I have room for a president
- 17:39Speaker 2: before I have to get rid of it, because I
- 17:41Speaker 2: can't afford all these damn streaming services.
- 17:43Speaker 4: If you like Rick and Morty, you should like President Curtis.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. He does have an awesome voice.
- 17:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:48Speaker 2: If nothing else.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Which they make a big deal about in the first episode.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I didn't notice in the promo they mentioned it. I
- 17:55Speaker 2: was like, well, he does have an awesome voice. Good
- 17:57Speaker 2: for him. Animation, that's your game. Oh, yeah. So, has
- 18:03Speaker 2: that been your main viewing?
- 18:06Speaker 4: Those two, yeah. Those two, catching up on Rick and
- 18:09Speaker 4: Morty and President Curtis have been my main go-to. And
- 18:14Speaker 4: I have to wait for both of them because they're
- 18:17Speaker 4: not all on the streaming service yet, which is the
- 18:21Speaker 4: only way I have to watch it because I'm too
- 18:24Speaker 4: poor to afford the actual channel it's on. But it's
- 18:27Speaker 4: nice because they both come out on Sundays, and I'm
- 18:29Speaker 4: usually busy Sunday nights. But it gives me something to
- 18:38Speaker 4: look forward to on Monday when I'm at work. I'm like, oh,
- 18:40Speaker 4: I get to go home and watch the new Rick
- 18:42Speaker 4: and Morty tonight.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Is it that weird Adult Swim streaming thing?
- 18:46Speaker 4: I've been watching them on HBO Max.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Okay. Yeah, that's where I ended up with this one
- 18:51Speaker 2: for now. But again, not for very long. But I
- 18:55Speaker 2: have the only reason I've been able to catch up
- 18:57Speaker 2: on the previous seasons is there's a streaming like on
- 19:00Speaker 2: your Roku that's like Adult Swim and 90% of it
- 19:05Speaker 2: you're locked out of. Yeah. which is really annoying unless
- 19:09Speaker 2: you have cable, which I'm like, if you had cable,
- 19:13Speaker 2: why would you be watching it on cable? You don't
- 19:14Speaker 2: need this streaming after the fact version. If you're just
- 19:17Speaker 2: watching it when it comes out on cable, but whatever,
- 19:19Speaker 2: that's just always seems stupid to me. But for some reason,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I guess because they're so damn popular, the Rick and
- 19:25Speaker 2: Morty stuff is the most accessible. But even then there's
- 19:29Speaker 2: like a weird window and you can never quite, or I,
- 19:33Speaker 2: never paid attention enough, I guess you could get a
- 19:35Speaker 2: calendar and map it out or something, but like, certain
- 19:39Speaker 2: ones would be available at certain times, but then they
- 19:42Speaker 2: would disappear, and then other ones out of that season
- 19:45Speaker 2: would be. So you could watch at one point, one, two,
- 19:47Speaker 2: and three, and then the rest were locked out. Yeah.
- 19:49Speaker 2: but then it would come back in like four five
- 19:51Speaker 2: and six but you couldn't now one two and three
- 19:53Speaker 2: were gone and it's like you'd you'd have to catch
- 19:55Speaker 2: it at the right time to be able to eventually
- 19:58Speaker 2: get through the whole season which eventually i did but
- 20:01Speaker 2: it took there was a while where i missed like
- 20:03Speaker 2: the last tail end of it And then it was
- 20:06Speaker 2: like three months before I came back around and found
- 20:08Speaker 2: the right time when I hit it again. I was
- 20:10Speaker 2: just like, it's so annoying.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Yeah, because I was trying to watch the Venture Brothers
- 20:14Speaker 4: and something else on Adult Swim. And I was trying
- 20:18Speaker 4: to do it like that. After a while, I was like,
- 20:19Speaker 4: you know what? I just don't have the energy for this.
- 20:22Speaker 2: So much of it I don't care about. Just looking
- 20:25Speaker 2: through all these titles going, I didn't even know this
- 20:26Speaker 2: was a thing. But then you get to one or two,
- 20:29Speaker 2: then I'm like, oh, yeah, I remember that one when
- 20:31Speaker 2: I watched it on old-timey cable version. And I'm like,
- 20:35Speaker 2: I'd watch that again. And I'll go to it and, like,
- 20:38Speaker 2: none of them. There's, like, two episodes out of something
- 20:40Speaker 2: that had, like, seven seasons. I'm like, what is the
- 20:43Speaker 2: point of this then? Like, why have this technology and
- 20:45Speaker 2: then not give anyone the chance to use it? Not
- 20:48Speaker 2: even the people that, like, bother to have their cable
- 20:51Speaker 2: code can get to it. Like, there's only two accessible
- 20:54Speaker 2: even with that. So I'm just like, what is the point?
- 20:57Speaker 4: So how do we get a show on Adult Swim?
- 20:59Speaker 4: Because there's, like you said, you look on there and
- 21:01Speaker 4: it's like, I've never heard of these. We could come
- 21:03Speaker 4: up with something that no one will ever hear of.
- 21:05Speaker 2: I mean, I would think that back when they would
- 21:07Speaker 2: come on. I mean, it would be like 1130 or,
- 21:10Speaker 2: you know, when you'd seen the regular ones you normally
- 21:13Speaker 2: watch and then some other thing would pop up on
- 21:15Speaker 2: a 15 minute interval and it'd be like, what the
- 21:18Speaker 2: hell is this?
- 21:19Speaker 4: I guarantee I could come up with something just as
- 21:22Speaker 4: bad as Xavier Renegade Angel.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I mean, there's so many that I'm just like, That's
- 21:27Speaker 2: why it was so hit and miss for me. Cause
- 21:29Speaker 2: I'm like, some of the things on there are genius.
- 21:32Speaker 2: And then there are others that I'm like, I don't
- 21:33Speaker 2: even know what you're going for, man. Like, not only
- 21:36Speaker 2: is it like not my style of humor, like I
- 21:39Speaker 2: don't even know that it's meant to be humorous. Like,
- 21:42Speaker 2: I don't know what you're doing, but it's 15 minutes
- 21:45Speaker 2: of it every week. And I'm like, all right, whatever. Like,
- 21:48Speaker 2: so yeah, I would really like my chance to do
- 21:50Speaker 2: 15 minutes of nonsense. So I could do that. I mean,
- 21:54Speaker 2: I mean, I'm working on, my own stupid skits right now.
- 21:58Speaker 2: So if adult swim wants to back them, I'll take it.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Pay for somebody to do some robot chicken animation on it.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I'm all for that. Well, mine, I had, I definitely
- 22:10Speaker 2: had a movie that sort of has a tie in
- 22:13Speaker 2: for our, where we're going. But then I also just
- 22:16Speaker 2: watched one that I was like, Oh, well this one again,
- 22:19Speaker 2: because I don't have to worry about the overall theme.
- 22:22Speaker 2: And this one has a tie in that you might,
- 22:25Speaker 2: I don't know if you'd be interested in it or
- 22:26Speaker 2: repelled by. But anyway, are you familiar with Mile End Kicks?
- 22:31Speaker 4: Not off the top of my head.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I've heard about it. Technically, I think it was made
- 22:36Speaker 2: the end of last year. I just started seeing a
- 22:38Speaker 2: trailer for it at the beginning of this year, and
- 22:40Speaker 2: I'd heard really good things about it. So it just
- 22:43Speaker 2: showed up, and I was like, oh, finally, I can
- 22:45Speaker 2: watch this. So I just watched that, and it's pretty
- 22:49Speaker 2: damn entertaining, I have to say. And it's 90%... I
- 22:54Speaker 2: know I'm out of the loop once again, because I
- 22:56Speaker 2: don't have all these streaming channels. So I didn't watch
- 22:58Speaker 2: Euphoria like the rest of the world that loves Euphoria.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And I, I have no take on it. Cause I still,
- 23:04Speaker 2: I didn't have those channels. I didn't see any of it.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I still haven't seen any of it. So, uh, Barbie
- 23:10Speaker 2: Ferreira is one of the main cast.
- 23:13Speaker 4: Okay.
- 23:14Speaker 2: And, um, she is pretty impressive in this. Like she
- 23:18Speaker 2: is also super adorable. And like, dorky like is rocking
- 23:25Speaker 2: this like if you can be hot and dorky at
- 23:27Speaker 2: the same time she has.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Mastered that is what i'm looking for that's.
- 23:30Speaker 2: What i'm saying like i was like this is just
- 23:32Speaker 2: so perfect.
- 23:33Speaker 4: And don't don't get me wrong everybody out there i
- 23:35Speaker 4: will take one or the other but preferably if i
- 23:37Speaker 4: could get both i don't.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And again watching this i'm just like yeah this is
- 23:43Speaker 2: why i don't even go down any of these roads
- 23:45Speaker 2: anymore i'm like this whole because she gets into a
- 23:49Speaker 2: various versions of relationship type things not even real relationships
- 23:53Speaker 2: actually but like they're all so dysfunctional I'm like see
- 23:57Speaker 2: this is why I'm not even bothered unless Barbie's gonna
- 24:00Speaker 2: give me a call but for the most part I
- 24:02Speaker 2: just don't even try anymore cause I don't care it's
- 24:04Speaker 2: not worth this fight that she's going through but the
- 24:08Speaker 2: tie in that you might again love or hate it's
- 24:13Speaker 2: about rock bands.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Or not okay.
- 24:20Speaker 2: So she's, uh, she's like out of high school. She's,
- 24:24Speaker 2: I don't remember if she's, I think she's college age,
- 24:27Speaker 2: but she might've just gone into cause she's working for
- 24:29Speaker 2: like a, uh, or she might be out of college already,
- 24:31Speaker 2: but she's working at like a magazine and or website
- 24:35Speaker 2: at this point. Magazines are almost defunct, but she's still
- 24:37Speaker 2: doing like kind of like music journalism, but also getting
- 24:41Speaker 2: thrown into and a lot of other stuff as you
- 24:42Speaker 2: find out later because they just can use her because
- 24:45Speaker 2: she's a nobody. So sure. Throw all the, grunt work
- 24:48Speaker 2: at her anyway it sounds like so she also is
- 24:51Speaker 2: doing like music reviews and like this whole like group
- 24:55Speaker 2: of like freaking annoying super trendy self-important dudes standing around
- 25:02Speaker 2: talking about music so that's one of the takeaways as
- 25:05Speaker 2: i was making my notes i'm like yeah music dorts
- 25:07Speaker 2: are pretentious and you kind of want to kill them
- 25:09Speaker 2: a little bit so yeah these those are the kind
- 25:12Speaker 2: of guys she works with so eventually she like Decides
- 25:15Speaker 2: she's leaving there, which for reasons that come up later
- 25:17Speaker 2: and you don't want to know that. But she decides
- 25:22Speaker 2: she wants to write a 33 and a third book. Oh, okay. And, like,
- 25:26Speaker 2: she moves to Montreal to, like, focus on writing her book.
- 25:30Speaker 2: So she goes and gets, like, a room in, like,
- 25:33Speaker 2: an apartment with some girl that she doesn't even know
- 25:35Speaker 2: that she found on, like, Craigslist or something. And just...
- 25:39Speaker 2: stays there and is gonna write her book and like
- 25:42Speaker 2: she pitches the deal and like starts like all these
- 25:45Speaker 2: things are coming into play and like so the girl
- 25:49Speaker 2: she moves in with her boyfriend is in a band
- 25:51Speaker 2: and then she meets like the other guys in the
- 25:53Speaker 2: band and is like kind of involved with a couple
- 25:57Speaker 2: of the guys in the band So that's the real
- 26:00Speaker 2: takeaway in this. I don't know that you're going to argue.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Guys in bands suck.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Most of them, yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 2: So, yeah, I was like, this is the fun takeaway.
- 26:08Speaker 2: It's like, guys in general, I'm not going to argue,
- 26:11Speaker 2: don't kind of suck. But for the most part, a
- 26:15Speaker 2: few occasional, like, this guy doesn't totally suck. But, yeah,
- 26:21Speaker 2: one in particular, and the friend tells her that from
- 26:23Speaker 2: the beginning. She's like, he's the worst guy in Montreal.
- 26:27Speaker 2: And I'm like, by the end, you're like, oh, no,
- 26:29Speaker 2: she was not lying. Like, this dude sucks. Like, and
- 26:32Speaker 2: not even in a normal guy in a band way.
- 26:34Speaker 2: In like a weird guy in a band way. Like, yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 2: he sucks. So, yeah, she just kind of gets in
- 26:41Speaker 2: these horrible scenarios. And she's the most awkward person on
- 26:46Speaker 2: the planet. And it's adorable. And I love it. But
- 26:49Speaker 2: almost in a way, because I'm watching it going like,
- 26:51Speaker 2: this is if like your Zooey Deschanel wasn't so fake. Mm-hmm.
- 26:57Speaker 2: Cause that was the, I mean, they built a whole
- 26:59Speaker 2: show around her being cute and adorable, but kind of awkward.
- 27:02Speaker 2: And I'm just like, but it always felt kind of fake.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I don't know. Like I liked that show to some extent,
- 27:08Speaker 2: but I was like, at the same time, like it
- 27:09Speaker 2: never really, like she still felt a little too polished
- 27:13Speaker 2: for dorky girl. Yeah. And I was just like, but
- 27:16Speaker 2: you're watching, you know, Barbie go through this. I'm just like, no,
- 27:19Speaker 2: this girl is dorky. Like she is awkward in a
- 27:22Speaker 2: real world kind of awkwardness. And I really respond to it. So, yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 2: she's pretty awesome. So that's most of the takeaways. Yeah,
- 27:33Speaker 2: it's just sort of watching her. She's just, by the end,
- 27:36Speaker 2: I mean, she's technically not a kid, but she's a
- 27:38Speaker 2: kid making dumb mistakes in her life. And you're just
- 27:41Speaker 2: watching her going, oh, God, what are you doing? Just, yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 2: And not that I'm doing any better, but still, I'm
- 27:48Speaker 2: just like, oh, man, you'll learn the hard way on
- 27:50Speaker 2: this one. So, yeah, it's pretty impressive, I have to say.
- 27:55Speaker 2: And it's Chandler Levack, I think is her name. She
- 28:02Speaker 2: also did, I don't know if you saw, I watched
- 28:04Speaker 2: it just like last year or so, a movie called
- 28:07Speaker 2: I Like Movies.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 28:08Speaker 2: That is a dorky kid. It's almost kind of the
- 28:12Speaker 2: precursor to this because he was a dorky kid in
- 28:14Speaker 2: high school that liked movies and like his ultimate job
- 28:17Speaker 2: was go get a job in a video store. I
- 28:19Speaker 2: know this seems really crazy for someone like me. So again,
- 28:23Speaker 2: you can tell... Bit of a stretch there. Yeah, this
- 28:25Speaker 2: is the entirety of this director's life, I feel like,
- 28:27Speaker 2: in these two movies. Like, these are her things. Movie
- 28:30Speaker 2: and music. Like, this is her thing. So like, these
- 28:33Speaker 2: are her dorky beginnings just sort of being thrown out
- 28:36Speaker 2: in these two movies. So that was pretty good. I
- 28:39Speaker 2: was surprised how much I like that one. So these
- 28:41Speaker 2: are like indie-ish. They're pretty well financed. Really decent actors
- 28:46Speaker 2: that they're bringing in. Some of which are... pretty well
- 28:49Speaker 2: known but most of it's still kind of indie filmmaking
- 28:52Speaker 2: kind of stuff and they're really well done so if
- 28:56Speaker 2: you haven't seen it yeah definitely what was it called
- 28:58Speaker 2: again mile into kicks i had to check again before
- 29:01Speaker 2: i left because i forget it every time like i
- 29:04Speaker 2: saw the trailer and was like what's the name of
- 29:06Speaker 2: that again like it and i would usually get the
- 29:08Speaker 2: kicks and i'm like something it's like the name of
- 29:11Speaker 2: a shoe store that they go to like oh okay
- 29:14Speaker 2: which is Then it makes sense from that aspect, but
- 29:16Speaker 2: for the movie, every time I'm like, wait, what's the
- 29:18Speaker 2: name of that? So I don't know if it works
- 29:21Speaker 2: as a movie title, but it's worth watching, so definitely
- 29:24Speaker 2: check it out. All right. So the other one, the
- 29:27Speaker 2: one I was originally going to go with, just because
- 29:30Speaker 2: it has a tie-in, because it's very sci-fi oriented, uh
- 29:34Speaker 2: i just watched memory colon the origins of alien which
- 29:41Speaker 2: is the uh friend of the show previous guests uh
- 29:45Speaker 2: alexander philippe yeah uh who this is what he does
- 29:49Speaker 2: and that's once i got in that's kind of how
- 29:51Speaker 2: like i found a i know you're shocked a physical
- 29:53Speaker 2: copy of it And I was like, oh, I do
- 29:56Speaker 2: kind of want to see this basically just, I know
- 29:58Speaker 2: they've made like Alien. I even got like one of
- 30:01Speaker 2: those box sets that comes with a bunch of documentary
- 30:03Speaker 2: stuff for each of those first four movies, I feel like.
- 30:06Speaker 2: So I'm like, I'm sure there's something on there. But
- 30:08Speaker 2: because it was him, I was like, I kind of
- 30:10Speaker 2: want to see this just knowing what he does.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Because if you're not familiar, he also was the one
- 30:17Speaker 2: that did the People vs. George Lucas originally. He did
- 30:21Speaker 2: that Doc of the Dead that was just kind of
- 30:22Speaker 2: zombies in movies. The main one that's like super focused
- 30:27Speaker 2: was the 7852, which I saw that one in the theater.
- 30:32Speaker 2: It's not just Hitchcock. It's not just Psycho. It's specifically
- 30:39Speaker 2: the shower scene. Like that's the time code of the
- 30:43Speaker 2: shower scene in Psycho.
- 30:45Speaker 4: And that's the entire documentary.
- 30:46Speaker 2: The entire documentary is how important, how well executed, how...
- 30:52Speaker 2: influential the shower scene in particular is to filmmakers that
- 30:57Speaker 2: came afterwards I mean.
- 30:58Speaker 4: As a kid I always heard it referred to as
- 31:00Speaker 4: the most famous scene in movie history.
- 31:03Speaker 2: So I mean that's the thing I mean you could
- 31:05Speaker 2: easily do a documentary about Hitchcock you can even do
- 31:08Speaker 2: a behind the scenes on Psycho but the fact that
- 31:10Speaker 2: the entire thing is pretty much just about this one
- 31:13Speaker 2: scene wow it's yeah so that's how focused he is
- 31:18Speaker 2: and that's why I was like no I kind of
- 31:20Speaker 2: want to see his version of this And that's that's
- 31:23Speaker 2: the takeaway. I'm like, he is just so detail oriented.
- 31:28Speaker 2: And like he just kind of digs into what originally
- 31:33Speaker 2: like inspired Alien, like all the original. There's also a
- 31:38Speaker 2: ton of stuff I didn't. It's a lot of stuff
- 31:39Speaker 2: on Dan O'Bannon, like before you even get to the director.
- 31:43Speaker 2: So like before he was even involved to direct. it
- 31:46Speaker 2: was already Walter Hill was attached, which I don't think
- 31:49Speaker 2: I realized.
- 31:50Speaker 4: I didn't know that.
- 31:50Speaker 2: So like even when they started production, Walter Hill's name
- 31:53Speaker 2: was on stuff. Like it got that far into the process.
- 31:56Speaker 2: And then eventually that fell apart, which I'm like, I can't,
- 32:00Speaker 2: as much as I love a lot of Walter Hill stuff,
- 32:04Speaker 2: Alien through the lens of Walter Hill is really weird
- 32:07Speaker 2: to think about. So maybe I'm glad because I really
- 32:12Speaker 2: love the way Alien turned out anyway. So. Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Alien was not, I mean, we could go on about
- 32:18Speaker 4: that for days, but that was not your typical sci-fi
- 32:22Speaker 4: film of its time. You know, it's influenced everything since then, but.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Which is a lot of what he digs into. He's
- 32:29Speaker 2: just like, yeah, this is not, again, even at the
- 32:33Speaker 2: time you're coming off of like Star Wars and like,
- 32:35Speaker 2: this is not Star Wars. it's slower paced, but it's
- 32:39Speaker 2: not even 2001 slower paced. Like it's a weird mixture
- 32:43Speaker 2: of all of the things and a bunch of new
- 32:46Speaker 2: stuff we haven't seen before and working Ripley in that
- 32:49Speaker 2: you don't get female characters that good now. So the
- 32:53Speaker 2: fact that in the seventies, you know, you're, you're being
- 32:56Speaker 2: handed Ripley. So it's, yeah, it's, it's an amazing movie overall.
- 33:01Speaker 4: If they just listened to Ripley, they would have been
- 33:03Speaker 4: home and time for dinner.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Jonesy. the only one he's like well i'm sticking with
- 33:08Speaker 2: this lady i don't really care about her because i'm
- 33:11Speaker 2: a cat so like i still barely acknowledge that she
- 33:14Speaker 2: does anything right anyway but she's smarter than the rest
- 33:17Speaker 2: of you idiots so but yeah it's it's pretty well
- 33:22Speaker 2: put together and uh like i said detail oriented and
- 33:27Speaker 2: goes into stuff that like there are so many aspects
- 33:30Speaker 2: that come into play that you like don't even think
- 33:33Speaker 2: about now that it's like compounded with all these years
- 33:36Speaker 2: of like the fact that so much of it is
- 33:39Speaker 2: like the labor force and like the split between the
- 33:42Speaker 2: two working class guys and like the upper class is
- 33:46Speaker 2: like you know your captain and your science officers are
- 33:50Speaker 2: a different class of citizen almost than your two guys
- 33:54Speaker 2: working down in the you know loading trucks like that's
- 33:57Speaker 2: essentially what they're doing so that that's interesting that he
- 34:01Speaker 2: kind of digs into that a little bit. And then
- 34:03Speaker 2: all of the, like the last half of it is
- 34:06Speaker 2: mostly just leading into the table scene of just like,
- 34:09Speaker 2: you know, we really don't even get that much into
- 34:11Speaker 2: the last half of the movie. It's mostly just like
- 34:14Speaker 2: leading up to Kane and the chest burster.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Again, that's almost the shower scene of this movie. It's
- 34:20Speaker 2: just like, yeah, everything changed is in the movie. And
- 34:24Speaker 2: from cinema moving forward, after you see, That happened. It's
- 34:28Speaker 2: just like it changed everything. So yeah, I mean, it's impressive.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Like it's really well put together. And I don't know
- 34:36Speaker 2: how accessible it is because it was like a weird
- 34:38Speaker 2: disc that I don't even know where it came from. Okay.
- 34:41Speaker 2: It seemed like maybe it came out of something else,
- 34:44Speaker 2: but it had its own like sleeve, but it doesn't
- 34:47Speaker 2: even mention the director by name on the... Interesting. On
- 34:50Speaker 2: the paperwork in the front of the disc. I'm just like,
- 34:53Speaker 2: it mentions the other movies he did. It's like from
- 34:55Speaker 2: the director of, but it doesn't give his name.
- 34:58Speaker 4: I'm just like, weird.
- 35:00Speaker 2: Where did this come from?
- 35:01Speaker 4: Do you know how you found the disc or did
- 35:03Speaker 4: it just show up?
- 35:04Speaker 2: I bet that would be impressive in and of itself.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I did get it in a store. Granted, it was
- 35:09Speaker 2: a secondhand store, so I don't know where it came from, but.
- 35:13Speaker 2: It's a place that I go that usually has really
- 35:15Speaker 2: cool discs.
- 35:16Speaker 4: You can still get magical things from secondhand stores.
- 35:19Speaker 2: That's usually where I get stuff anymore. It's rare that
- 35:21Speaker 2: I buy. I bought one new movie lately. Also because
- 35:24Speaker 2: I'm poor, as previously mentioned. So I get them as
- 35:27Speaker 2: cheap as I can. Oh, I hear you. But yeah,
- 35:30Speaker 2: there's maybe one new recent re-release. And even that was
- 35:34Speaker 2: during a specific time when it's 50% off, which probably
- 35:37Speaker 2: everybody knows when that is. Yeah. Because there's a set
- 35:40Speaker 2: type of movies that super geeks find to buy at
- 35:42Speaker 2: a specific time of year. Anyway, other than that, yeah,
- 35:46Speaker 2: I try to keep it to a minimum now because
- 35:48Speaker 2: I can't afford to buy them. And I don't know
- 35:49Speaker 2: where I'm going to put them when I come home
- 35:51Speaker 2: and I stack them in a pile that takes up
- 35:54Speaker 2: a place where we would record right now. So, yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 2: this is life. So, yeah, there's two different movies that
- 36:01Speaker 2: are both definitely worth watching.
- 36:03Speaker 4: You said 7258?
- 36:05Speaker 2: Was the chair that's the psycho and is yeah 72
- 36:09Speaker 2: slash or no 78 slash.
- 36:11Speaker 4: 52 78 52 is.
- 36:13Speaker 2: The the psycho one that is definitely worth watching it
- 36:16Speaker 2: is hardcore and has a ton of like talking head
- 36:19Speaker 2: kind of stuff of like everybody that came afterward that
- 36:22Speaker 2: was influenced by it is yeah so it's a ton
- 36:25Speaker 2: of that stuff and then the the alien one has
- 36:29Speaker 2: some of that but it also has a good amount
- 36:31Speaker 2: of specific stuff that they pulled from the cast interviews
- 36:35Speaker 2: at the time. So you get like, again, we've lost
- 36:38Speaker 2: most of that cast in the last few years, it
- 36:40Speaker 2: seems like. Yeah, it's got stuff from the time, but
- 36:43Speaker 2: then it also has like a couple of weird scenes
- 36:46Speaker 2: that were like shot for this. Because in the beginning,
- 36:48Speaker 2: it like opens with this thing that I'm like, I
- 36:51Speaker 2: don't even know what I'm looking at here. And it's
- 36:53Speaker 2: a weird scene. And I'm just like, what the hell
- 36:56Speaker 2: is this? And then eventually, like you don't even know
- 36:59Speaker 2: initially what, Later it gets worked into part of the
- 37:02Speaker 2: overall story. And I'm like, oh, he went and shot
- 37:04Speaker 2: this whole new thing just because it ties into the,
- 37:08Speaker 2: you know, the theme of what they're talking about down
- 37:10Speaker 2: the line. I was like, so yeah, just occasionally he
- 37:13Speaker 2: puts in these weird little flourishes as like a weird
- 37:16Speaker 2: filmmaker that still wants to do normal filmmaking, kind of,
- 37:19Speaker 2: but also is just so invested in documentary that that's
- 37:22Speaker 2: what he does. So yeah, he's an impressive documentarian. So neat. Yeah,
- 37:28Speaker 2: definitely worth checking out. All right, speaking of sci-fi classics,
- 37:34Speaker 2: are we ready to get to this?
- 37:36Speaker 4: I don't know, man.
- 37:38Speaker 2: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 37:42Speaker 4: On a world gone mad.
- 37:43Speaker 1: According to my divinations and calculations, Mars is about to run.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Out of air.
- 37:51Speaker 1: This is serious.
- 37:53Speaker 3: When I'm there, what will we breathe?
- 37:57Speaker 4: A desperate plan.
- 37:58Speaker 3: Call for the Lobster Man!
- 38:07Speaker 4: Lobster Man from Mars. What began as a harmless vacation
- 38:14Speaker 4: became two young lovers' outer space nightmare. Then just what
- 38:29Speaker 4: do you think, Professor?
- 38:30Speaker 3: I am convinced that the only kind of life that
- 38:34Speaker 3: could survive on Mars would be a giant clam.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Now you are mine!
- 39:08Speaker 2: Deborah Foreman.
- 39:09Speaker 4: Okay, you win.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Come and get me, lobster.
- 39:14Speaker 4: Patrick McNee.
- 39:16Speaker 3: I've suspected for some time that Mars has been suffering
- 39:19Speaker 3: from a severe air leakage.
- 39:23Speaker 4: Billy Barty.
- 39:24Speaker 3: Now let's join hands so that our physical contact may
- 39:29Speaker 3: prove a contention. of our spiritual energy.
- 39:33Speaker 4: And Tony Curtis as Sheldrake.
- 39:36Speaker 3: It's the greatest movie I've ever seen in my life.
- 39:38Speaker 4: What action. What passion.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Wow, it's great.
- 39:42Speaker 3: A film by Stanley Sheff.
- 39:44Speaker 2: Peek-a-boo! Lobster Man from Mars.
- 39:49Speaker 4: One lobster tale you won't want to miss.
- 39:56Speaker 1: All right.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Since we've slightly changed gears, this maternity leave sofa theater
- 40:02Speaker 2: feature is Lobster Man from Mars. The year is 1989.
- 40:07Speaker 2: The director is Stanley Sheff, and the plot, according to IMDb,
- 40:13Speaker 2: A movie mogul in search of a tax shelter screens
- 40:16Speaker 2: a space parody about a young woman, a mad scientist,
- 40:19Speaker 2: and a space monster. I guess. That is.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Accurately misleading.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I mean, it's a little simplified, and technically there's kind
- 40:30Speaker 2: of two space monsters, or four, or there's other things
- 40:34Speaker 2: that come into play, but. It's close enough, we'll say.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Spoiler alert, we're about to ruin the hell out of this.
- 40:42Speaker 2: So hopefully you've gone and watched it. It's actually free
- 40:45Speaker 2: if you know where to look for it. So it's YouTube.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Because it wasn't, as I told you when I sent
- 40:52Speaker 2: you the day before, I was like, if you go
- 40:54Speaker 2: to your streaming service, because I think I Googled and
- 40:58Speaker 2: it came up like it was available, a whole bunch
- 41:00Speaker 2: of free streaming stuff, I assumed. I mean, if this
- 41:03Speaker 2: isn't on Tubi, what is Tubi for? It didn't show up.
- 41:07Speaker 2: So I was just like, well, hell, maybe we're not
- 41:09Speaker 2: watching this this week. But I thought it mentioned something
- 41:12Speaker 2: about YouTube. It was like, this seems like it would
- 41:14Speaker 2: be on YouTube. And yeah, if you go there, it
- 41:16Speaker 2: was just.
- 41:16Speaker 4: A lot of people have posted varying degrees of picture
- 41:21Speaker 4: quality of.
- 41:23Speaker 2: Yeah, the one I watched was pretty good, but then
- 41:25Speaker 2: I saw another one that looked like they had pointed
- 41:27Speaker 2: their video camera at the screen of a TV that
- 41:31Speaker 2: was running an old VHS copy, so it was like
- 41:33Speaker 2: layers of not so great.
- 41:34Speaker 4: That was the first one I tried to watch.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I was like, look for at least
- 41:39Speaker 2: a version, because there's at least one that I ran
- 41:41Speaker 2: across that was pretty good quality. Yeah, it's out there.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't even search on the Roku, I just
- 41:50Speaker 4: followed your advice and went straight to the YouTubes.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I put it in expecting like multiple of all
- 41:56Speaker 2: your different, there's so many different weird free public domain
- 42:02Speaker 2: stuff kind of movies. In fact, that's what I got
- 42:05Speaker 2: myself in trouble the beginning when I looked for it
- 42:08Speaker 2: and it wasn't there. I'm scrolling down and it brought
- 42:11Speaker 2: up all these other bad schlocky sci-fi horror movies that
- 42:15Speaker 2: I was just like, Yeah. Because it's just the posters
- 42:19Speaker 2: and the VHS old box art going by. And I'm
- 42:21Speaker 2: just like, I want to watch all of these.
- 42:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:23Speaker 2: So that was like a 10 or 15 minute window
- 42:26Speaker 2: of like, damn it. We don't have time for all
- 42:28Speaker 2: of these. We got to watch one this week. Yeah.
- 42:30Speaker 4: We've talked about this a little bit before. Man, that
- 42:32Speaker 4: old school VHS box art was.
- 42:34Speaker 2: It's magic, man. It's so good.
- 42:37Speaker 4: I don't know if there was a school where they
- 42:39Speaker 4: taught that or what, but my God, they suckered me
- 42:43Speaker 4: in every time.
- 42:44Speaker 2: When some of these are sold, it was like old
- 42:46Speaker 2: one sheets, which again, they used to do really good
- 42:49Speaker 2: movie posters. Yeah. And then... It was post 80s. The
- 42:54Speaker 2: DVD era is when we got the slapped together Photoshop.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Here's some heads next to each other that we.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Well, it's always your male lead and your female lead.
- 43:03Speaker 4: And they're standing back to back and looking at the
- 43:05Speaker 4: camera like, oh, aren't we cute?
- 43:07Speaker 2: There's that. That became like a go to even for
- 43:09Speaker 2: the posters at one point. But then after that was
- 43:12Speaker 2: the like DVD reissued. I'm not going to bother using
- 43:17Speaker 2: the VHS art. We're going to. Again, once they figured
- 43:21Speaker 2: out what Photoshop was, it's just like floating heads slapped
- 43:24Speaker 2: next to each other. Not even from the same movie sometimes.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Like it's just so badly thrown together. I'm just like,
- 43:32Speaker 2: what is this nonsense? So those are an atrocity. So yeah,
- 43:36Speaker 2: looking back at the old artwork, even the old school
- 43:39Speaker 2: one sheets, I'm like, those are amazing. Like I'll take
- 43:42Speaker 2: those any day of the week.
- 43:43Speaker 4: But so.
- 43:45Speaker 2: Yeah, that's where I almost got sidetracked and didn't get
- 43:49Speaker 2: to the movie but eventually and luckily i did because
- 43:54Speaker 2: i think i'd looked at the rundown when i because
- 43:57Speaker 2: i i sent a message to you a couple days
- 43:59Speaker 2: ago i was just like i'd never seen this trailer
- 44:02Speaker 2: before i think i'd heard the title yeah but i
- 44:06Speaker 2: don't think i'd seen the trailer because if i had
- 44:08Speaker 2: i probably would have already watched this because i was
- 44:09Speaker 2: just like this looks fun and cheesy and it knows
- 44:13Speaker 2: it's cheesy but not so cutesy that it's annoying kind
- 44:16Speaker 2: of cheesy like it's not winking at the camera too
- 44:19Speaker 2: much which is arguable once we get into the movie
- 44:22Speaker 2: but um i was like it at least looks fun
- 44:24Speaker 2: so i was like this looks like the kind of
- 44:26Speaker 2: thing we could do and would have fun with so
- 44:29Speaker 2: but i think i forgot some of the cast until
- 44:32Speaker 2: i got in there and then the credits started rolling
- 44:34Speaker 2: up and i was like billy bardy.
- 44:35Speaker 4: I'm sold yeah yeah and waited the The whole damn movie. Anyway,
- 44:42Speaker 4: we'll get into that.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like they got most of their
- 44:45Speaker 2: names in it for a lot of time. Outside of
- 44:49Speaker 2: Deborah Forman. Which she lost a bet or something.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Must have. Yeah, I had never heard of this until
- 44:58Speaker 4: you suggested it the other day, but I was like,
- 44:59Speaker 4: with a title like that, this is definitely right up
- 45:03Speaker 4: my alley.
- 45:04Speaker 2: I mean, and we already get Rock Lobster right off
- 45:06Speaker 2: the bat.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Which, that confused me. It's like, how did this movie
- 45:12Speaker 4: afford that?
- 45:13Speaker 2: I mean, that was early enough. I mean, that was
- 45:16Speaker 2: before your Tin Roof Rusted era. So they were still
- 45:20Speaker 2: probably cheap-ish.
- 45:23Speaker 4: I mean, and I could see at that time, whatever
- 45:25Speaker 4: the lead singer's name was, I could see him.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Being a dork? Yeah, I could see him being.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Ready to jump on the chance for a movie like
- 45:35Speaker 4: this to lend their music to it.
- 45:39Speaker 2: They're pretty awesome.
- 45:41Speaker 4: They're amazing.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Over the years, there's other stuff that they've done, but
- 45:47Speaker 2: then I will just go back sometimes and look at
- 45:50Speaker 2: the weird stuff in the beginning.
- 45:52Speaker 4: Oh, it's so strange.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I mean, like I go back and like on your Googles,
- 45:57Speaker 2: like just go and find them when they first appeared
- 46:00Speaker 2: on SNL. And I'm like, I mean, SNL was already
- 46:05Speaker 2: like no freaking rules back in the day anyway. So
- 46:08Speaker 2: like the people that were up at midnight on a
- 46:11Speaker 2: Saturday watching whatever nonsense they were doing on sketch comedy, like,
- 46:16Speaker 2: and then this comes up and it's just them. Like
- 46:19Speaker 2: they're just them and microphones and like, the girls are
- 46:23Speaker 2: doing their weird high-pitched screaming, and Fred's doing his, like,
- 46:27Speaker 2: everything he did, and then they're playing this awesome riff,
- 46:30Speaker 2: and I'm just like, there's so many weird things going
- 46:32Speaker 2: on at one time, and then at some point, I
- 46:35Speaker 2: think Fred starts doing some sort of weird theatrics, and, like,
- 46:38Speaker 2: it's just, I think he falls down, and, like, kind
- 46:42Speaker 2: of in your, like, your James Brown sort of performance of, like,
- 46:47Speaker 2: He just can't go on. The rock is too much.
- 46:49Speaker 2: I don't know. There's a couple of them because there's
- 46:52Speaker 2: a few other songs later that I've seen that are
- 46:54Speaker 2: them kind of at that era doing weird theatrics in
- 46:59Speaker 2: the middle of the song also happening. Yeah, they're an
- 47:02Speaker 2: amazing band. The fact that we even get just a
- 47:04Speaker 2: few minutes of Rock Lobster throughout the movie. Yeah, it's
- 47:08Speaker 2: pretty awesome.
- 47:09Speaker 4: Of course, right away, I didn't pay attention to the credits.
- 47:14Speaker 4: It popped on played I did catch Billy Barty's name
- 47:17Speaker 4: I was excited about that but then right there in
- 47:20Speaker 4: the opening scene I'm like I'm like what favor did
- 47:23Speaker 4: Tony Curtis owe to somebody.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Did you see the answer to that question no okay
- 47:28Speaker 2: well then let's jump to that now because at the
- 47:32Speaker 2: end here I've got some notes but that since you're
- 47:34Speaker 2: posing the question in his autobiography Tony Curtis said that
- 47:39Speaker 2: he worked on the movie because they paid him $ 100, 000
- 47:42Speaker 2: and he needed to make child support payments He also
- 47:46Speaker 2: mentions that during the production, he never saw the scenes
- 47:49Speaker 2: of the movie that his character was reacting to.
- 47:52Speaker 4: I do believe that.
- 47:54Speaker 2: So he's just saying random things, not looking at anything,
- 47:59Speaker 2: and he needed to pay chops for it.
- 48:05Speaker 4: He got a pretty decent paycheck for his little time
- 48:10Speaker 4: that he's actually in it.
- 48:11Speaker 2: For this movie, that's a decent amount of money to
- 48:13Speaker 2: pay one actor.
- 48:15Speaker 4: I wouldn't have thought.
- 48:17Speaker 2: The whole movie cost $ 100, 000. Yeah, I mean.
- 48:20Speaker 4: So right away, though, the setup, you know, when his
- 48:25Speaker 4: accountant or whatever is like, yeah, you need a movie
- 48:27Speaker 4: that's going to lose money. I thought, okay, we're getting
- 48:31Speaker 4: a producer's type thing.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Sci-fi producers.
- 48:33Speaker 4: And you kind of are. You're getting a movie within
- 48:35Speaker 4: the movie, but I don't understand what the point of
- 48:40Speaker 4: them making the movie be like that was. Like, just not...
- 48:45Speaker 4: why don't you just give us the movie that we
- 48:48Speaker 4: spend all of our time watching anyway?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Cause at least in the producers, that's just like a
- 48:53Speaker 2: snippet of it. Your springtime for Hitler isn't the whole movie,
- 48:57Speaker 2: you know? So it's just like, we cut to that
- 48:59Speaker 2: to be like, Oh God, what is this? Yeah. Where
- 49:02Speaker 2: if we did that for like 15 minutes of this runtime, okay,
- 49:05Speaker 2: I could see. And the rest of it was built
- 49:07Speaker 2: around the Tony Curtis and this guy. But like, No,
- 49:11Speaker 2: like 90% of it is just us watching the movie
- 49:14Speaker 2: that they're watching. So it is interesting that we've sort
- 49:18Speaker 2: of bookended it like that. this, I guess, maybe just
- 49:22Speaker 2: to work in Tony Curtis for a day of shooting.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I mean, I really, the only other thing I could
- 49:29Speaker 4: think of is the runtime on the actual movie was
- 49:32Speaker 4: so short that, I don't know. Maybe.
- 49:36Speaker 2: The only other thing I can think of, and this
- 49:38Speaker 2: is why when I saw the trailer, I responded to
- 49:41Speaker 2: it well in my normal geeky fashion. I was like,
- 49:45Speaker 2: it looks like they're having fun making it. Like you
- 49:48Speaker 2: get to the special effects of the guy like disintegrating
- 49:51Speaker 2: and his eyeball popping out. I was like, oh my God,
- 49:53Speaker 2: that's awesome. And it looks super fake, but I don't
- 49:56Speaker 2: care because it's awesome. So I feel like that also
- 49:59Speaker 2: gives them license to do that the entire movie. Because
- 50:03Speaker 2: then it's not like, oh, our movie's bad. It's this
- 50:05Speaker 2: guy's movie's bad.
- 50:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess.
- 50:07Speaker 2: So that kind of gives you free reign to be like,
- 50:10Speaker 2: look how cheesy this guy's movie is. Not our movie.
- 50:13Speaker 2: We're commenting on how cheesy this guy's movie is.
- 50:15Speaker 4: The thing is, if the movie, the actual Lobster Man movie,
- 50:21Speaker 4: existed on its own, I still would have watched it.
- 50:24Speaker 4: And I do, I will give it credit because it is,
- 50:27Speaker 4: I mean, it's like 95% of your like sixties. They
- 50:33Speaker 4: came from outer space type movie.
- 50:36Speaker 2: It's yeah. It's, it's only kind of doing a comedic
- 50:39Speaker 2: take on that as much as it's just sort of
- 50:42Speaker 2: doing one of those movies like in an own, in
- 50:45Speaker 2: its own weird earnest version of it. Really?
- 50:47Speaker 4: I mean, there's, there's some things that were funny, but
- 50:50Speaker 4: then I realized it's like, no, you've, That's funny because
- 50:54Speaker 4: you're so accurate to your source material. And then there's
- 50:57Speaker 4: other things that were funny because they were silly, like
- 50:59Speaker 4: where he's talking on the phone and you hear the
- 51:02Speaker 4: background music and the lady's like, can you turn that down?
- 51:04Speaker 4: And it pans down to a tape recorder.
- 51:07Speaker 2: The music gag was funny. I like that.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:11Speaker 2: The guy with his thing, this is the one, and
- 51:13Speaker 2: I realized that with this director, the little bit I
- 51:16Speaker 2: dug into him, I'm just like, there's a fine line
- 51:20Speaker 2: with his comedy.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Then I'm like, there's a point where I genuinely think
- 51:25Speaker 2: what he's doing is funny and he gets the references
- 51:28Speaker 2: and the jokes and like is doing the kind of
- 51:31Speaker 2: comedy that other geeks like him will appreciate. And then
- 51:34Speaker 2: he's like also one of those guys that's what if
- 51:36Speaker 2: I beat this horse a little bit longer?
- 51:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:39Speaker 2: And it's just not funny anymore. And like that guy
- 51:42Speaker 2: with his dumb like film noir references is. I'm like, no,
- 51:45Speaker 2: I actually like those movies. So again, like you're making
- 51:49Speaker 2: the references to the kind of person who will get them,
- 51:52Speaker 2: but it's also not funny. So you're just sort of
- 51:55Speaker 2: going back to that. Well, every time, like the third
- 51:58Speaker 2: or fourth time he comes in to do it, I'm like,
- 52:01Speaker 2: does this character serve a purpose? And he kind of doesn't.
- 52:04Speaker 4: He really doesn't.
- 52:05Speaker 2: He's just there to make that joke. Four or five times.
- 52:09Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, I get it.
- 52:09Speaker 4: The third time he made the I have a hunch joke. Yeah.
- 52:13Speaker 4: I thought it was funny, but not like rolling on
- 52:17Speaker 4: the floor funny. But then by like the seventh or
- 52:19Speaker 4: eighth time, I'm like, this is just getting.
- 52:21Speaker 2: eventually he comes into play at the end when you've
- 52:24Speaker 2: almost forgot about him as a character, because he's not
- 52:27Speaker 2: really a character.
- 52:27Speaker 4: I'm going to be honest with you. I forgot about
- 52:29Speaker 4: him several times.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Yeah. And he came back during the wrap up and
- 52:33Speaker 2: I'm just like, what, why is he here? Cause we
- 52:35Speaker 2: could have done this without him. Like, I don't think
- 52:37Speaker 2: he brings anything in that's super important. They make him
- 52:41Speaker 2: bring something in that's important, I guess, but like it
- 52:44Speaker 2: could have easily been any other character standing there that
- 52:47Speaker 2: said this line. So why is he here? So, Some
- 52:51Speaker 2: of that I think is just that little taking the
- 52:54Speaker 2: joke too far type of humor that he likes because
- 52:58Speaker 2: I did check into some of his other stuff and
- 53:00Speaker 2: there's something he did right after this that's like a,
- 53:05Speaker 2: it was like on TV I think and it's a
- 53:07Speaker 2: parody of like news shows and doing like fake commercials
- 53:11Speaker 2: which is its own thing and like if you can
- 53:13Speaker 2: do that it's really funny.
- 53:14Speaker 3: Sure.
- 53:15Speaker 2: Because that's the thing. One of them was super short
- 53:17Speaker 2: and it was like a fake commercial and I'm like, oh,
- 53:19Speaker 2: that was actually pretty funny. And then it cut to
- 53:21Speaker 2: this next bit and I'm like, all right, already, like
- 53:25Speaker 2: we're 30 seconds in and I'm tired of this joke.
- 53:27Speaker 2: So like he's, he's like skating that line the whole time.
- 53:32Speaker 2: And I think luckily most of this movie falls on
- 53:34Speaker 2: the good side of like, I think it's just sort
- 53:37Speaker 2: of fun and I'm enjoying what he's doing. Yeah. But
- 53:39Speaker 2: you can see those moments like the, the film noir
- 53:42Speaker 2: guy that I'm just like, nah, now you're taking it
- 53:45Speaker 2: to a bad place, like a bad version of this
- 53:47Speaker 2: type of comedy.
- 53:49Speaker 4: I've got nothing against a good callback. If it's well done. Yeah,
- 53:55Speaker 4: if it's well done. And as you know, I like
- 53:58Speaker 4: ridiculously stupid things. Again, if you can tell somebody put
- 54:04Speaker 4: effort into making this stupid and it actually comes off,
- 54:08Speaker 4: then fine. I can even be a fan of the
- 54:11Speaker 4: beating the dead horse joke.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Some of them.
- 54:14Speaker 4: Some of them.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Some of them. Sometimes they really rub me the wrong way. Yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And there's some people that just lean on that.
- 54:20Speaker 4: Yes.
- 54:22Speaker 2: How many episodes of The Family Guy? I'm like, okay.
- 54:25Speaker 1: All of them.
- 54:25Speaker 2: I know that's what you're doing. You know that's what
- 54:28Speaker 2: you're doing. So at what point are you just doing
- 54:31Speaker 2: it to annoy people? Right. It's that type of like, okay,
- 54:33Speaker 2: now it's not really fun for anybody. You're just kind
- 54:36Speaker 2: of getting off on sticking it to people. So yeah,
- 54:39Speaker 2: that's its own weird like you're just doing it for
- 54:43Speaker 2: your own sick purposes, the creator of whatever this is.
- 54:46Speaker 2: So that I get tired of. But most of this,
- 54:49Speaker 2: I think, falls on the good side of like, if
- 54:52Speaker 2: you're the type of geek who would be watching this movie,
- 54:55Speaker 2: you get the references, you enjoy the references, you enjoy
- 54:59Speaker 2: the cheesiness of everything, and that's why you're watching it.
- 55:03Speaker 4: That's the thing. I don't think if you're not into
- 55:07Speaker 4: the sort of movie that this is, I don't know
- 55:10Speaker 4: if it's parodying it or if it's paying homage to it.
- 55:14Speaker 2: I couldn't tell.
- 55:15Speaker 4: Rip it off. Whatever it's doing. If you were a,
- 55:19Speaker 4: if you were, you don't even have to be a
- 55:22Speaker 4: super hardcore, but you have to have, you have to
- 55:24Speaker 4: know enough to be like, oh, I get this reference.
- 55:25Speaker 4: I get the reference. If you don't have that, you're
- 55:28Speaker 4: not going to enjoy this movie. This is not going
- 55:31Speaker 4: to be a movie you're just going to stumble on
- 55:32Speaker 4: and be like, oh, that was a good 90 minutes
- 55:34Speaker 4: of my time.
- 55:35Speaker 2: I feel like if you're the kind of person who's
- 55:38Speaker 2: okay with watching Lobster Man from Mars as the title
- 55:41Speaker 2: of your film, you get it.
- 55:44Speaker 4: Right.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Even if you're a hardcore sci-fi fan, they're not going
- 55:48Speaker 2: to make a serious movie that's titled that. Certainly not
- 55:52Speaker 2: in the 80s. Maybe in the 50s or 60s they
- 55:55Speaker 2: could have tried that. But even then, it sounds a
- 55:58Speaker 2: little silly.
- 55:59Speaker 4: I would watch that.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I would still watch it.
- 56:01Speaker 4: I would so watch a serious... lobster man from mars.
- 56:05Speaker 2: Movie because some of the ones they are referencing are
- 56:07Speaker 2: that silly and they were trying to be somewhat earnest
- 56:11Speaker 2: robot monster so when we get to our character that's
- 56:14Speaker 2: a total ripoff and or homage to robot monster i'm
- 56:19Speaker 2: just like yeah and they weren't really trying to be
- 56:22Speaker 2: funny i don't feel like they just had no budget
- 56:25Speaker 2: yeah this was their alien and that's what they did
- 56:28Speaker 2: and they were like they just kind of didn't care
- 56:30Speaker 2: they were just like we gotta turn out a picture.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Let's do it. Like, this is our sci-fi movie. This
- 56:35Speaker 2: is our sci-fi budget. This is what we're sci-fi doing. So, yeah.
- 56:39Speaker 2: So there are ones in the 50s and 60s that
- 56:41Speaker 2: are a little silly of this type. Sure. And take
- 56:45Speaker 2: themselves seriously. But, that is not this movie. And I
- 56:48Speaker 2: feel like, yeah, if you're tuning in to watch Lobster
- 56:51Speaker 2: Man from Mars, you kind of know that.
- 56:52Speaker 4: You have to know what you're getting, yeah.
- 56:54Speaker 2: And you're okay with it from the get-go. Now, whether
- 56:56Speaker 2: or not, you know, some of this crosses the line
- 56:58Speaker 2: is a personal case-by-case basis.
- 57:00Speaker 4: But, Well, I feel like there's people who would see
- 57:04Speaker 4: the title. I don't even know if they'd read the
- 57:07Speaker 4: title all the way through before they're like, no, screw that.
- 57:10Speaker 4: And then there's people like us.
- 57:13Speaker 2: The other thing that for me, like puts it in
- 57:15Speaker 2: perspective is, and it's weird that I was just thinking
- 57:18Speaker 2: about this character completely unrelated to this like a week
- 57:21Speaker 2: or two ago. But when we get to the narrator
- 57:25Speaker 2: and I'm like, if you're the kind of dork who's
- 57:26Speaker 2: watching this movie, you're also the kind of dork who
- 57:29Speaker 2: knows who Dr. Demento is.
- 57:31Speaker 4: Right. Well, I didn't realize that was him until.
- 57:33Speaker 2: So when the voice kicks in, I'm just like, oh, yeah,
- 57:36Speaker 2: this is the same crowd. Yeah. If you're watching this movie,
- 57:40Speaker 2: you're also the dork that was up at like 1130
- 57:43Speaker 2: on a Sunday night waiting to hear a weird parody
- 57:47Speaker 2: record that no one else in the country was going
- 57:50Speaker 2: to care about, except the dork sitting around the radio
- 57:53Speaker 2: at that specific time. That is such a lost era.
- 57:56Speaker 4: Oh, it really is.
- 57:57Speaker 2: And I was that dork. And I was, for some reason,
- 58:00Speaker 2: I guess, I think I saw something with Weird Al
- 58:03Speaker 2: and like he worked so much with Dr. Demento over
- 58:05Speaker 2: the years that like, I think that triggered it. And
- 58:07Speaker 2: I was like, what the hell happened to Dr. Demento?
- 58:08Speaker 2: And he's still out there.
- 58:09Speaker 4: He's still out there. His show was on for a
- 58:12Speaker 4: long time.
- 58:13Speaker 2: And yeah, he was doing that show. And then I
- 58:15Speaker 2: think he had like another variation that, I don't know
- 58:18Speaker 2: if he was doing like something online eventually. I don't remember, but. Yeah,
- 58:23Speaker 2: he was still doing it for years before he finally,
- 58:25Speaker 2: I think, semi-retired now.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that was such a... And I feel like such
- 58:32Speaker 2: a touchstone for geeks. Like, if you're that kind of geek,
- 58:37Speaker 2: which again, much like the conversation earlier of crossover of
- 58:41Speaker 2: movies and music and just being an overall dork, like,
- 58:45Speaker 2: this is all of your things. Like, it is geeky
- 58:48Speaker 2: references and weird parodies and like, only... Like, if you're
- 58:53Speaker 2: the kind of dork who goes to school and talks
- 58:55Speaker 2: about this, they're probably going to pick on you.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Unless you find the one other kid in your school
- 59:02Speaker 2: that was like, dude, did you hear last night when
- 59:04Speaker 2: they played My Bologna? That was great. Like, so there's
- 59:07Speaker 2: the handful of other kids that were like, that got,
- 59:11Speaker 2: so that's the thing. Now, when it's years later and
- 59:13Speaker 2: you can use the internet or you're at a convention
- 59:16Speaker 2: and like the geeks find each other, like they all
- 59:19Speaker 2: have the same base. Like we all grew up doing
- 59:22Speaker 2: and watching and listening to the same things, but everyone
- 59:26Speaker 2: was so fragmented back then.
- 59:28Speaker 4: Well, it was really, I mean, stuff like that, it
- 59:33Speaker 4: was really cool because it felt like you discovered it
- 59:35Speaker 4: on your own. Yeah. And then if you found somebody
- 59:39Speaker 4: who had similar tastes and you could swap, you know,
- 59:43Speaker 4: information with, I mean, that was such a cool thing.
- 59:46Speaker 2: At the time, I didn't. Like, when I first started
- 59:48Speaker 2: listening to it, like, it was just me. It was...
- 59:51Speaker 2: It was just me.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I lucked out. I met a guy in high school
- 59:55Speaker 4: who I'm still friends with to this day that... You know,
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: he knew the song Fish Heads, which was a staple
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: of Dr. Demento.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: As another dorky tie-in on a regular basis, because on
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: my social medias, I follow Billy Moomy. And, like, again,
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: somebody is still out there being cool. Like, he just
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: put out an album.
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: Oh, really?
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Like, he's still, like, he's got grandkids now, but he
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: still put out another album that I think is a
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: little more serious songwriting type of stuff. But, like, he's still...
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: plays music. He's still like constantly posting old photos. So
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: he like, doesn't have a problem with the fact that like, yeah,
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: this was the kid actor I was. And like, I
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: was in, he's in everything. Like you go back and
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: look at anything from that era. If there's a kid
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: in it, it's like, if, if they couldn't get Ron Howard,
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: it's him. Like those two were like the only working
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: kid actors for a long time because everything has them
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: in it. So, yeah, it's, like, between the two of them.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: And he keeps posting pictures of, like, look at this
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: thing I was in. Look at this thing I was in.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: It was just, like, he, like, has embraced his geeky,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: you know, upbringing.
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: That's good.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: And then, like, he had so many eras. It's, like,
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: he's lost in space. He's fish heads. He's, like, you know,
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: every 10 or 12 years he does a new weird
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: super dorky thing and, like, is, again, now, I think,
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: super cool. But, like, at the time, you're the kind
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: of weirdo that knows what fish heads is, like, you
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: better hope you find your friends because nobody else cares
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: and everybody else would say you're insane for listening to
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: this song.
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: But yeah, that's, yeah, I was having a weird Dr.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Demento flashback recently and it was funny that it was
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: before this and then I watched this and I was like, yeah, there, exactly.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: This director is that kind of dork. This is the
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: kind of guy who's drawn to weirdos like Dr. Demento
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: and we all gather around and watch things like Lobsterman.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: But otherwise, yeah, yeah. I don't know what Debra Foreman
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: did to deserve this.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Because she's kind of coming off of like, you know,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: she was never like super mainstream, but like her indie
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: cult kind of hits at the time are like 80s classics.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: So like the things that she was in, like people
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: really like got into. And maybe more so in retrospect,
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: I think it may be found it's like, crowd on
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: VHS and like even years later I feel like even
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: now there's people that are way more hardcore fan base
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: on like Valley Girl than when it was released like
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: I don't think it was a big hit even as
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: the cult status at the time I think it took
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: years of people finding it before it got to.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: That level yeah because I've talked to people about Valley
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: Girl and it's like you know how do you know
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: about this movie why.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: Do you know about this movie And how do you
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: not know that E.G. Daly is the coolest person on Earth?
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: I don't know. She's so cool.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Again, another person who's just done nothing but cool things
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: her whole life.
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Everything you're in is awesome. You have three or four
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: different careers. They're all amazing. So, yeah. Just cool people.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: That's what I like to find in these weird projects. Yes.
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: And that's usually what ties it all together.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: No.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: So I don't know. I mean, there's plenty of weird
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: little moments throughout it that you can go through, but
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: I don't know. I feel like more of it is
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: just the weird tie-ins and the geeky references. I mean,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: we do get to a chestburster scene, which was a...
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: That's why I was like, yeah, I'm going to go
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: ahead and talk about origin because... You definitely get a
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: full-on homage to Alien that then, oh, but these guys fly. Right.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: And have googly eyes that look around in different directions.
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: Which, first of all, adorable.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: I want a flying Martian lobster bat thing or whatever
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: it was.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Space bat number two.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Which was one of the credits at the end. I
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: was like, I don't know if they referenced space bat
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: number one, but I think when he's on the phone,
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: he credits himself as space bat number two. Those guys
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: are pretty awesome. Yeah. So again, these are the things
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: that if you're okay with this dark shadows bat flying
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: going around that looks super fake and that's why you're there,
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: this is the movie for you.
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: There was one scene I noticed where one of the
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: space bats was floating around. And not only could you
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: see the string hanging from... Which, to their credit, they actually.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: Most of the time, you don't.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: It seemed like they did a pretty good job of
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: covering that up. But there's one shot where you can
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: see it a little bit. And then in the background,
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: you can actually see the shadow of the puppeteer up
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: against the wall. I'm like, if that's an accident, I
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: get it. But if they did that on purpose, that's genius.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Classic. That's what that is. Yeah. The ship going down
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: and the ship flying, which is very Flash Gordon-y. Yeah.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: But then you get the things like the... So that
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: landing in the cave and them going in the cave
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: is like six or eight different sci-fi movies. All of
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: that's pretty close to just parodying very specific things. But
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: then you have stuff that's more modernized, but pretending to
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: not be modernized. And that is the joke when we
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: get to them with like, why don't you go make
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: us some tea there, little lady? I was just like,
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: all right, this is very modern era looking back and
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: making fun of these like chauvinistic bastards. So like that
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: was more commentary wise. Again, I don't know that they're
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: that much more enlightened at that era, but they are
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: at least calling attention to the fact that it is
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: the way that it would have been in the fifties
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: and sixties.
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: And at least her character did call them out on
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: their bullshit on that after a certain point.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: She still kept, and it's funny that, like, she figures
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: out the way to kill them, and they're like, aha,
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: and they just take it and run. They're like, okay,
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: now go make us some more tea, honey.
- 1:06:09Speaker 4: Which, let's, okay, so, yeah, that's one of the dumbest,
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: here's how we kill the big bad I've ever seen,
- 1:06:20Speaker 4: but I love it for that reason. Which is pour
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: boiling water on it.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: Well, I mean, he's a lobster man. He is a lobster.
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: Totally makes sense. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: But it's just, we can't have soldiers running around with
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: pans of boiling water. It'll cool down first.
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: But what if we had hundreds of soldiers? Oh, well,
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: now it's a good idea. Sure.
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: But I've never seen a boiling lobster disintegrate like that.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: They just usually.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: It would totally nullify the whole meal plan if you
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: lost your lobster in the process of making your lobster.
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: Put lobster in boiling water and it just turns delicious
- 1:07:02Speaker 4: at that point.
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: I mean, if you're a lobstery person. Occasionally. I did,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: in searching for this, before it popped up in the
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: title list, Lobster mac and cheese kept coming up, which
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: I have to say, that one was like, all right,
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: I mean, that's not what I'm looking for, but no,
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: it's kind of what I want.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: It was really weird as I'm sitting there typing into
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: the YouTubes the title of the movie one letter at
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: a time because I'm doing it on my remote, so
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: I've got to search around. But I'm sitting there, and
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: I'm like, I type in lobster, and all sorts of
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: stuff about lobster pops up. I type in man, you know,
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: Lobster Man, nothing pops up. And I keep thinking any
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: minute now something's going to pop up as I get
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: closer to the end of the title. Nothing popped up
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: until I hit search, which had me very worried that
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: it's like this movie just doesn't exist anywhere.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Which is kind of true until you find that one
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: little strain. You find it, yeah. But all the way
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: up until there.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Lobster M.A. And you're still like mac and cheese mac
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: and cheese mac and cheese. I'm like alright fine. I
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: mean I'll have some mac and cheese. I also have
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: to watch this movie you know.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: That does sound good.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm not arguing. If somebody wants to get me
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: some mac and cheese I'm all for that. There are
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: random things. Lobster man like going to the girl's showers. Yeah.
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Was that just For the sake of going to the
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: girls' shower. But we don't even play the card of like,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: it's the 80s and we want to have some T
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: & A in this movie. Because we don't. It's just
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: girls running around in towels.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: Which is still appreciated on my end.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: I guess. But it doesn't even accomplish the thing you're
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: usually doing in an 80s movie at that point. So
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: I'm just like, and it goes away immediately. Like it's
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: that one scene and then we go to a whole
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: nother thing. And I was just like, that was random.
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: And we don't know his weakness yet, but why would
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: he go to a place that's full of hot water?
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Doesn't seem like a good plan. So there's those things
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: that don't make sense. Then there's other moments that are
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: like genius level when we're talking about the flying bats.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: when they're like trying to kill the one in the
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: room and they're like, it's, it's silly enough that it's
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: flying and it looks like it's on a string, but
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: when they can't find it and then it pops up
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: over that guy's shoulder. Yeah. Again, I'm a sucker for
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: some cheesy puppetry and like that just popping up and
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: looking around shot. I was like, Oh my God, that's
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: so funny.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: So those are the moments I'm like, yeah, this is
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: why I'm here, man. That lobster on your shoulder, man.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: That is, that is genius.
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: This movie, definitely had its moments where it's like I
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: can get on board with this.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: So we do get Billy Barty in a turban yeah
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: I do that's an era again when it's like just
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: sort of randomness when we like then take a left
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: turn into the spooky old house again just to work
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: in a different type of old cheesy movie I guess
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: like we just wanted a spooky old house segment for
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: no real reason because then we're also going to blow
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: up the house so It completely goes away eventually, very quickly.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: But I do like him having fake hands so everyone
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: closes their eyes and he can still pretend to hold
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: their hand while he does whatever shenanigans he pulls off.
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: Yeah, but now I want a Billy Barty as a
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: fake medium movie. And I know it's too late to
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: get one of those.
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: I mean, I don't... I don't push for CG, but
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: at this point, you can kind of do anything. That's true.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: I have seen Peter Cushing in the real world pretend.
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: He did a whole scene, a whole movie based around
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: his character, so I guess we could have a bad
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: CG Billy Barty in a turban the whole movie. I'm
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: not pushing for that really, but I'm saying you never
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: know what you're going to get.
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: I'm not pushing for it, but I don't think I
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: would turn it down either.
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: I mean, I guess like I'm always like up for
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: like if you if you can't do anything in regular shooting,
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: like actual animation is an interesting take. So some hand
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: drawn Billy Barty in a turban animation. I'd be all
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: for that.
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: I'd watch that.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: I'm sure we can find somebody with a close enough
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Billy Barty voice to do the voice work. Yeah.
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: I always get so excited when I see his name
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: come up in. in credits for some reason.
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: Again, this says a lot about me at, at this
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: same point in time, while I'm listening to Dr. Demento,
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: I'm also like any movie that has Billy Barney and
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: I'm thrilled with it.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: So that's just, yeah, that's once again, in a nutshell,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: this is a lot of me.
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: Yeah, but I can't figure out what it is that
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: excites me.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: I think just cause he's so damn cool.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: He is cool. And he's, um, You know, I'm more
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: familiar with his work as an old man actor.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I was too, really.
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: You know, but at the same time, it is cool
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: to see at least one of the munchkins getting work.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: He was, I would say, the most successful. I think so.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: Definitely of that era. Like, he was... the hardest working
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: little actor out there. It's like he got most of
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: the roles. If you had money, you would see other
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: guys sometimes. Every once in a while, you'd see a
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: girl of that era. But for the most part, yeah,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: if they were going to work somebody in and you
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: had a decent budget, get Billy Barty on the phone.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: So that was, yeah, that was pretty standard of that era.
- 1:12:50Speaker 4: I think the only movie from that time period with
- 1:12:53Speaker 4: little people that he's not in is Time Bandits.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: Yeah, surprisingly. all the other cool guys are in time.
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: So yeah, man, that's a great movie.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: That's such an awesome movie.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: I mean, Terry Gilliam's an amazing filmmaker anyway, but that's
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: like to be that early in his, his resume. Like
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: it's so good.
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: That is like, it's so far up there for me.
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: Pretty much that and fear and loathing, which is a
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: totally different type of movie for him. Those are, that's
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: like the only movie of his that I can, sit
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: there and watch all the way through and be entertained
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: the entire time and not be like, what is going
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: on here?
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: We're again, off on a tangent, which is pretty regular
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: for us. I will maybe top of the list almost
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: every time. And it's, it's back and forth with time bandits.
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: 12 monkeys is genius.
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Well, I keep forgetting about 12 monkeys.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: It is so well put together. And so like, again,
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: so that's later, like that is so polished and perfectly
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: orchestrated as a movie. You can see the strings for
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Time Bandits sometimes. It's still so early on in his
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: budget and special effects hadn't quite caught up yet to
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: what he wanted to do. He did it anyway because
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: he didn't care. But yeah, that's just so polished that
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: I'm like, I love that one. I like watching all
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: of his stuff because he's such a weird, interesting filmmaker.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: I don't always like the movies, but him as a filmmaker,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: I'm always interested in. He's always an interesting filmmaker.
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: Because what he comes up with is Yeah. Unbelievable, but.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: And weird sometimes.
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: Sometimes the execution of it is just a little much.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: Well, he's also cursed. Dude cannot get a movie off
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: the ground without almost killing himself.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Every time. Because I thought it was just like, oh,
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: I've heard horror stories about this movie and the horror
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: story that is the Man of La Manche thing that
- 1:14:49Speaker 2: he worked on for half of his life. But then
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: I watched, again, Physical Media Dork. I have the... I
- 1:14:55Speaker 2: think it was the old DVD of 12 Monkeys. And
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: there's a whole behind the scenes stuff on that. And
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: it almost killed him. Everything went wrong on that too.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: So the fact that it turned out as well as
- 1:15:06Speaker 2: it did is amazing. Because every movie seemed to just
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: go horribly wrong. And yet sometimes he would turn out masterpieces.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Little person side tangent that led us to Terry Gilliam. Anyway.
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: Sounds about right for this show.
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: Billy Barty.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: Love me some Billy Barty.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. He's pretty great. Trying to think if there's
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: other specific stuff we should address.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Well, I did something I was thinking about watching the movie.
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: I don't know how the kid who made the movie
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: within the movie pulled that movie off. Because he doesn't
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: seem cool enough to have any friends.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: No. Where does he know Deborah Foreman from? Because I'm like, no,
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: she would not even talk to you, dude. Like even
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: the fake in the movie version of her that we
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: don't even know her personality.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Still feel like she's out of your league as an
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: actress or just as a human being. So like, where
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: did you get her in this world within the movie? Yeah.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: So that's a little weird. We know his uncle gave
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: him the money is sort of what it sounded like
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: when mom's yelling at him at the beginning.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: He did say something about how one of his uncles was...
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: in the movie was the monster.
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: Guy yeah but still a little unlikely but yeah I
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: mean I do we get like halfway in the movie
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: before we actually see Lobster Man we get a POV
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: the whole time I do like Mambo which is just
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: a robot monster like he's just a gorilla with a
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: old timey diving helmet on with some antennae and that's
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: pretty awesome for me again that That's the bar of
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: the thing I'm looking for.
- 1:16:53Speaker 4: In a movie. I've always been, even as a kid
- 1:16:58Speaker 4: I would see that and think, that's a cool monster.
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: Whereas all my friends who were too cool for those
- 1:17:05Speaker 4: sorts of movies were like, this is just dumb. I
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: don't know what it is. You put a robot head
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: on a gorilla and I'm in. I'm in.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: I'm in. I've sold on it, but almost for the
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: absurdity of it. Right. Because I, even as a kid,
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: remember seeing that that first time and going, what made
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: you think this was a good idea?
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: I'm not saying I don't think it's awesome, kind of
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: for a different set of circumstances. But when you're the
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: guy with no money, like in this movie, and you're
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: just like, we need an alien. Now, what if he
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: was a gorilla body? Like, because you have a gorilla suit?
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: Is that the answer to this question?
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing. In a fictional world, what kind
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: of scientist puts that together?
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: One.
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: And then number two, what sort of set designer... How
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: desperate are you? It's like, we have to make this movie.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: We have an hour before filming is supposed to start.
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: We don't have a monster. We have a gorilla costume
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: with no head.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Did they lose the head i don't know i don't.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: Know that's because it seems to me like space gorilla
- 1:18:16Speaker 4: is also scary or even just.
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: Like diving suit yeah like anything like old space suit
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: that you found in a you know at a prop
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: shop from an old movie like just something else that
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: would also fit the diving helmet head you could be
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: like look they're from space but like It's a very
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: specific reference to go with gorilla suit body. And I almost,
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: if you're out there and you want to support this idea,
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: because I almost think we need an entire spinoff show.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: of every movie that worked as gorilla into a movie
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: that didn't really need a gorilla in a movie like
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: there's a lot in the olden days you don't see
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: it as much now it just became a thing guy
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: in a gorilla suit was just in a third of
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: your movies that came out that year like there was
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: just a lot of guy in a gorilla suit.
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: The fact that there's a movie with bella lugosi and
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: a guy in a gorilla suit at least one possibly
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: two the.
- 1:19:16Speaker 2: Dead end kids don't they hang out with a guy
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: in a gorilla suit everybody at that era like eventually
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: did a whole movie based around the gorilla suit like
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: sooner or later we're gonna find a way to work
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: in this Edgar Allen Poe story and a gorilla suit.
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: You just wait. It's just a matter of time till
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: I find the crossover. So yeah, like there's just so
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: many things at that time that somehow you still get
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: a guy in a gorilla suit. And I'm just like,
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: I want a list and I want to go through
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: the entire... Oh, boy. I'm telling you, it's a very
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: specific sub-genre of film that is just the kind of
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: thing that podcast dorks are looking for. So you let
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: me know, people out there.
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: And I have to wonder, I have to honestly wonder
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: how many forgotten gems there are out there.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: That's kind of why I want to go down this
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: rabbit hole. I can think of a bunch of... And
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: I bet I'm missing a whole other bunch.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: But I'm sure there's got to be something where you
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: sit down and watch it. And by the end of it,
- 1:20:19Speaker 4: you're just crying from emotion that you felt for the
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: portrayal of the guy in the gorilla suit.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: I mean, that's what led us to King Kong. Although
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: that was mostly all stop motion. I don't know how
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: much we had Guy in a gorilla suit there.
- 1:20:32Speaker 4: Yeah, if there's any, it's very, very little. But look
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: how awesome that movie is.
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: You care about King Kong. So they learn from the
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: very beginning, like, we care about this monkey. So I
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: guess that's why we just keep going back to it.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: I mean, it's still true, like, of the, again, tangent
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: number 47, of the new cheesy Americanized version of the
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Godzilla and Kong movies. Yeah. The thing that I feel
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: like is the through line that keeps pushing the plot,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: if you want to call it that, is the Kong
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: storyline in these last two. Godzilla just shows up and
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: it's cool because he's Godzilla. But you follow the story
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: of Kong. You register some sort of emotions of what
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: Kong is going through that just doesn't read in the
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: lizard suit. Somehow the monkey suit, granted now it's a
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: little more elevated in our special effects.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: Quite a bit.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: But still, something about the primate version of that still
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: registers emotion where the reptile doesn't. Right. Like, dude, he
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: looks cool. But you don't quite get the emotion that
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: you do out of a monkey, and I don't.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: Well, it's interesting because when they started making the new,
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: at the time, you know, like the Bryan Cranston Godzilla movie.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: Yeah, which is still technically all the same series.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: So many people... that I'd grown up with that would
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: make fun of me for watching the old school Godzilla
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: movies would say to me, you know, when, when there
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: was the then new Godzilla movies coming out, that would
- 1:22:07Speaker 4: say to me, we need a new Godzilla versus King Kong.
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: And I'm like, I know how I know about that,
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: but how do you know about that?
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Once again, not, not that long ago in the last
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: year and a half, I bought that on Blu-ray.
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Yeah. Which I've then heard recently they were going to
- 1:22:27Speaker 2: do another one. There was a whole follow-up that was
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: planned and I think the licensing fell through again.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Or the licensing actually went back. I think that's how
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: it happened the first time was licensing problems. They were like, yeah, sure,
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: you can use that. Until they went, wait, no, no,
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: you can't. Stop using Kong. But I think there was
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: another version planned that didn't happen and then they just
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: like Totally reused the script for another movie and just
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: subbed another monster in there.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: Good enough.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Toho doesn't care. They're just making money, man. They don't care. So, yeah.
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: Other fun monkey-related movies that somehow still tie into this one.
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: But that's the thing.
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: Yeah, if you guys out there know of any, let
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: us know, please.
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: This is such a, like, just... gumbo of sci-fi horror
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: references that like that's why we're going down 47 different
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: roads as we as we talk about this because each
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: one just reminds you of like oh because they're referencing
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: this oh because they're referencing that so the whole thing
- 1:23:27Speaker 2: is just a big stew of other movies from back
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: in the day and like again they're doing it lovingly
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: enough that like you don't feel like they're making fun
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: of those movies a hundred percent of the time they're
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: poking fun at how cheesy they are, but they're also
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: doing it, making fun of how cheesy the movie they're
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: making is. So like they know they also don't have
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: a big budget. So it's okay to make fun of
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: this one because we're also equally as cheesy is kind
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: of how it works out and kind of makes it
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: okay to make fun of it a little bit.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: But they almost did it a little too well.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: To the point where you're close to it.
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: The point where you're like, I'm not, I'm not, laughing
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: at this like i feel like they wanted me to.
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: I do like the evil bunnyman from neptune reference yeah
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: yeah because then i'm like where's that movie because that
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: needs to be the follow-up i would watch i would
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: watch the shit out of that which maybe we need
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: to start working on that screenplay right now.
- 1:24:29Speaker 4: I think it should take us about 20 minutes to
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: get me a napkin.
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: Yeah I mean, I guess it is perfect that we
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: end up at Old Faithful by the end of it.
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: That is the most logical way to take out a
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: lobster man.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: I just thought it was funny that Billy Barty lived
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: with Old Faithful in his backyard.
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: Like you do, I mean... Most guys that have a
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: spooky old house set it up right next to Old Faithful.
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: I did like, and I wondered why they did it
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: at the time, but when they're driving down the highway,
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: they show you the closeup of the Yellowstone Park sign twice.
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: And I was like, that's weird that they would need
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: to show that to you again. But then I realized
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: they're like, oh, well.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: I see where we're headed.
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:24Speaker 2: Literally, we're headed to the park. The other weird choice
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: is their magical healing after they kill. I mean, I
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: do like they find a way in a lot of
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: horror sci-fi movies to bring back our people. It's usually
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: like a vampire movie move of like, oh, if we
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: stake this guy, it saves all our other characters that
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: we like that we lost earlier.
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: If you can reverse the curse of a werewolf, a vampire,
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: and to some degree a zombie, okay, sure.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: Lobster man?
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: There's not a lot coming back from being just a skeleton.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: And yet they did. Because as annoying as the guy
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: was earlier sitting at the bar, which by the way,
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: that was one of my specific comments, is like, I
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: don't know that I want to eat at any diner
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: that has paneling. If you're in a food establishment that
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: has wood paneling behind you, I'd be a little leery
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: of that. But that's just me. Not saying I didn't
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: grow up in a house with paneling, because that's why
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: I have issues with it.
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: I know paneling real well, and I don't know that
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: I'm putting a five-star restaurant in paneling. But anyway, that
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: annoying guy with his baseball cap. I do really like
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: the skeleton wearing the baseball cap. That kind of two
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: special effects of, and now there's a skeleton wearing his
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: baseball cap is pretty funny.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: Well, I did when we got to the end and
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: all the dead people come back to life. I was like, oh,
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: this is going to upset Brian and his no stakes philosophy.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I mean, I think more of than the people coming back,
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: because again, we're we're showing you, oh, it's reversing all that.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: But I'm like, how do you come back from the
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: house blowing up? Because, I mean, that's also what was
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: involved in the Billy Barty death. So I'm like, if
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: he is now magically back, where is his house? Does
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: it also magically bring his house back?
- 1:27:23Speaker 4: But why? I mean, why does any of it come back?
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: Because if.
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: The.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Nothing before this led me to think that Lobster Man
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: was magical.
- 1:27:38Speaker 2: Space magic.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: And, you know, which I believe in.
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: Lobster magic.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: So I guess the thing that's the most weird about
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: the wraparound story is it also doesn't work. Like it's
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: a success.
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: And they make money. Yeah. So then the IRS shows
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: up to get Tony Curtis. So I'm like, what was
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: the point? That's the point when you're like, no, really,
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: why did we do that? Like it'd be different if
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: it was, you know, actually did the thing it set
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: out to do and got him off and he got the,
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: you know, not have to pay his second ex-wife or whatever.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: Or if, like, you know, we said earlier about the producers,
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: you got to see the hijinks of them trying to
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: destroy their own.
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: I mean, we did for the whole run of the movie,
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: I guess. Those are definitely some hijinks. So, yeah, I
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: don't know. It's a weird wraparound story.
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: It really is.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: Thankfully, we do get... another little snippet of Rock Lobster
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: really quick. That's true. And then it goes away and
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: we just go back to the orchestra music or whatever.
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: And I will give the best credit is no lobsters
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: were harmed during this production, only eaten. It's just kind
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: of disturbing in its own right, but.
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: at least there were no real lobsters in the movie.
- 1:29:02Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, we've just had the giant guy who
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: I was okay with is again, it was equally as
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: impressive as our robot monster. Yeah. Mambo. So it was
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: pretty cheesy looking, but in a fun way. So his
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: was fun.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: I was confused about why he had one human hand, though.
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and like one eye different than the other eye.
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: He was very Frankenstein-y for a monster that shouldn't have been,
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: as far as I know. But I don't know. Who
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: knows what goes on in Lobster Guy world. So the
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: other interesting facts about it. First of all, okay, you've
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: seen this movie. I have.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: You know what type of movie it is.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: Oh, I definitely do.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: The fact that it had its world premiere at Sundance.
- 1:29:48Speaker 4: Really?
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: In 1989, it had its world premiere at Sundance and
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It did not
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: say it won, but the fact that it was nominated
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance is kind of surprising, actually.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: See, I....
- 1:30:07Speaker 4: But there's things about this movie where I'm almost... At first,
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: I was like, okay, you got a couple of... You
- 1:30:12Speaker 4: got Tony Curtis, you got Billy Barty, you got a
- 1:30:16Speaker 4: couple people who are somewhat recognizable. It's like, maybe this...
- 1:30:22Speaker 4: It's like I could almost see if somebody was like...
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: Somebody a little bit more famous than the guy who
- 1:30:26Speaker 4: actually did make it was like, I'm going to make
- 1:30:29Speaker 4: this movie to have fun with it. Then stuff like
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: that would make sense. But just, no.
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: I mean, that guy had... He himself wasn't a household name,
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: but he definitely had influential friends. Sure. Because, do you
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: know where this movie came from? This is definitely the
- 1:30:50Speaker 2: most impressive part. Certainly more impressive than even the Sundance appearance. So,
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: the reason we have this movie, Orson Welles came up
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: with the title.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Are you kidding me?
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: He had originally agreed to play the role of the producer,
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: but he died before the production began. So he really
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: wanted to get out of it. Wow.
- 1:31:11Speaker 4: That would have made that character so.
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: Different. So basically this, this director, in addition to being
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: the cheesy director that he is like, he also was like,
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: cause he also did like a, his first, not even
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: full length feature, but the main first thing he did
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: that people like still kind of reference, um, he did
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: like a silent movie that he was trying to do.
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: Like again, his own updated version of a silent movie
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: that I think you can still watch on, by the way,
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: there is a website for this movie still up and
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: running functional. I went to it yesterday so you can watch,
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: I think there's a link on there that you can
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: watch his silent movie that he made too. So he
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: was already doing like a retro version of, I'm going
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: to make an old timey silent movie. So there was
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: already that.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: So you telling me that makes me like this guy
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: even more just for the dork cred.
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, he's definitely committed to the dorky things
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: that he likes, but he also like was really working
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: in the industry because he's an editor. Yeah. So like
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: he edited a lot of like, if you go look
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: at his editing credits, he had a lot of like legit,
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: like mainstream, not just movie, but also just working in
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: television at the time kind of editing job. So like
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: he was a legit editor too. but was working on, like,
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: I guess at some point met Orson Welles, but then
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: he was, he is the only filmmaker ever to share
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: co-directing credit with Orson Welles.
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: Because he collaborated, edited, and acted in The Orson Welles
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: Show from 1979, which was Welles' final completed work. So
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: I guess he met him, worked on that, At some
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: point along the way, they're talking about this movie, and
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Wells came up with this silly title and was like, sure,
- 1:33:03Speaker 2: I'll do that. I mean, shit, he's in the Transformers movie,
- 1:33:06Speaker 2: so he'll cash a paycheck. He doesn't care. But yeah,
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: and before that happened, instead he died. So he really
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: just died. What do I have to do to get
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: out of this movie?
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Jeez.
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: I'll take it. I'm out of here. But yeah, he
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: actually worked with Orson Welles. And I guess at the
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: end of there, probably wasn't doing a ton of stuff himself.
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: To be fair to that guy, I've never worked with
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: Orson Welles.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: That's what I'm saying. So he's the only one that
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: shared directing credit with him on that last thing that
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: I think they did for TV. So that's pretty impressive.
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: I mean, of the many cool things about this movie,
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: I think by the end, the details about it are
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: maybe more fascinating than the finished product. Yeah. Which I
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: feel like we run into a lot in our movies.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: Yeah. But, you know, what are you going to do?
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: The other sort of cameo that I don't know if
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: you noticed, in addition to, you know, the music legend
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: that is Dr. Demento, did you see who the person
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: was at the beginning when they're having their little, we're
- 1:34:13Speaker 2: running out of air, like that little conversation between.
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: The King of Mars?
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: King of Mars and the astrologer, astronomer, whichever he was. So,
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: Bobby Pickett. Oh! Monster Mash Bobby Pickett.
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: Huh!
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: That guy, which the way they bill it is like
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: he's both, which I didn't go back. Is he talking
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: to himself? Because they keep cutting back and forth. I
- 1:34:42Speaker 2: didn't notice. He may be talking to himself and doing
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: both roles because they credit him as The Martian astronomer
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: and the king of Mars or whatever he was. But
- 1:34:53Speaker 2: I don't know. They definitely have him doing, because they
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: say he's doing his Boris Karloff impersonation. Yeah. As he's
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: doing the Martian astronomer. So he's definitely the Martian astronomer
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: in this. Which again, how do you become friends with
- 1:35:06Speaker 2: Bobby Pickett?
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: This guy's got the connections.
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: What I've always liked about him is he, number one,
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: the Monster Mash is a Just ridiculously good. It's fun.
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: It's catchy. It's like I feel like it should be
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: played every day, not just on Halloween.
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: I definitely second that emotion.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: But what I love what I love about him is
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: he came up with, as a lot of artists have done,
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: came up with that one big hit that everybody knows
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: him for. And he was never shy about it. He
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: never tried to be like, I am more than this.
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: I'm a serious artist.
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: He leaned into the Monster Mash and has released, I
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: don't know how many versions and sequels of that song.
- 1:35:49Speaker 2: That's the thing. As much as I love the Monster Mash,
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: Monster's Holiday is not great.
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: No, not at all.
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: But the fact that he did Monster's Holiday just beat
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: that dead horse.
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Also, I think the final version, are you familiar with
- 1:36:07Speaker 2: the rap version? No. As obviously he's around in the 80s.
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: No.
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure the last version he did while he
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: was still around was a rap version.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: Well, you know.
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: That became the thing in the era of rap and Rodney.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: Everybody wanted to get in on the rap game as
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: it became popular. I'm using quotes there, but popular in
- 1:36:30Speaker 2: ways that they didn't. No one involved in rap wanted
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: or ever asked for. Well, you know, it's... A lot
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: of rapping grannies out there at that point.
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: It's funny when you take any sort of underground authentic
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: thing that somebody has worked really hard to create and
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: it starts to become mainstream. You get a bunch of
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: people who push it forward and... But man, when that
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: happened with rap, the people trying to push it forward
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: did not understand what they were working with at all.
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: I mean, it became just such a thing. When you
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: can reference rapping grannies and be like, no, oh no,
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: I forgot. That was.
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: I forgot about the rapping.
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. Until I started down this road. I
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: was like, oh, God, that was a thing, wasn't it?
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: It's such a weird set of references that came into
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: play at that point. But yeah, that was, I think,
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: his last tie-in for that version.
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: Did any legitimate, true rap artist ever use the phrase,
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: and I'm here to say? Because every single one of
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: those rap and granny type things that came along in
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: the 80s, that was the second line of every song.
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: They announced themselves, which was just polite.
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: Well, that's pretty standard in rap. It's always about them.
- 1:37:51Speaker 2: It's very self-referential and braggy, usually. I don't know if
- 1:37:55Speaker 2: the second line is here to tell you and say
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: what they're here to do. They usually do tell you that,
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: but I don't.
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: Know if they word it that way. No, they have
- 1:38:06Speaker 4: an agenda that they get out. Part of it, I
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: get that.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: Since we've posed the question of the times that that
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: may have gone right in some capacity, of silly.
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: Are you familiar with 2 Live Jews?
- 1:38:21Speaker 4: No. In the era of 2.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Live Crew, there became a parody album called Two Live
- 1:38:30Speaker 2: Jews that I think me being the dork that I am,
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: I think I got it from the library.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: Of course.
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: Because I'm super cool. And I went to the library
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: and got music and saw that and was like this scene.
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: I think I'd heard the single, which is Two Live
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: Jews and we're kosher as we want to be. Yes,
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: feel free to Google that up too. But what was
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: funny is most of it is silly. I think there's
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: a Jewish American princess song. There's like several others. Each
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: one is like a variation of the type of stuff
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: that was going on either with 2 Live Crew or
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: just rap in general. Sure. But like somewhere in the
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: middle of that album, there's a track called Young Jews
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: Be Proud. And it like does like a history of Judaism.
- 1:39:26Speaker 2: And it's like, as best as I can tell, I
- 1:39:29Speaker 2: don't know. I'm not schooled in any of this, but
- 1:39:31Speaker 2: like it was factual and like semi-serious in the way
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: it was delivering it and kind of worked as a rap.
- 1:39:40Speaker 2: And I was just like in the middle of all
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: these jokey songs, you got to that track. And I'm like,
- 1:39:45Speaker 2: this is actually kind of a good song.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: Wouldn't have happened had the rest of this nonsense not
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: come about so i don't know how much i'm gonna
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: stand by it if you go listen to it and
- 1:39:57Speaker 2: you hate it god you can let me know i
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: guess but i don't know but i just remember that
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: one being like huh they all of a sudden got
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: kind of serious for a minute so yeah.
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: I've never wanted to find an album so badly.
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: Young jews be proud so There you go. That was
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: one of that era that I was just like, this
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: is a weird left turn that I didn't see coming.
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: All right. Let's see. Back to more facts about this
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: ridiculous movie. There's also the tie in. There's tons of
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: tie ins, as we've discussed. We haven't even gone down
- 1:40:34Speaker 2: the road of many of them. So you'll reference them
- 1:40:37Speaker 2: when you watch it because you're a dork. But yeah,
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: the J.P. Sheldrake. is named after the producer who turns
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: down William Holden's script in Sunset Boulevard. So that's the
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: tie-in for the Tony Curtis of it all, I guess.
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: I do like when they reuse the same geeky stuff
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: in other geeky movies. So supposedly the painting with the
- 1:41:03Speaker 2: moving eyes that's in the house when they go in
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: his spooky house is the same painting from Waxworks a
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: couple of years before.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: Nice.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: So I do like those kind of tie-ins.
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: It's an odd movie, too. Yeah.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: Not as odd as Waxworks 2 Lost in Time or
- 1:41:21Speaker 2: whatever time travel version Waxworks 2 became. I need to
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: revisit those because I remember almost nothing about them. But
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: I remember almost being more entertained with the second one.
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: I know I haven't seen the second one. I don't know.
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: I think every time I try to watch Waxworks, I
- 1:41:38Speaker 4: fall asleep at the exact same place. I even watched
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: it in a bar one time with a bunch of
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: other people and fell asleep.
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: That's, that's impressive. Well, I have a couple of movies
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: that I do that with, but usually it's at the beginning. Yeah.
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: There are a few that I haven't made it like
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: past the credits. It's like, here it comes and I'm out.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: And I'm just like, I've had that happen more than
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: once on the same movie. And I'm like, is it
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: the movie? Is there something like underlying in the score
- 1:42:04Speaker 2: that like, by the time we get to the end,
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: it's like set my brain into motion of like, nope,
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: you're sleeping now. I'm like, I don't know. I haven't
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: figured it out yet.
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: It's strange.
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: But yeah, this director, Earl Stanley, his first feature is
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: the one I was telling you about is Sinister Flesh.
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: It is 1976 and it's a satirical black and white
- 1:42:26Speaker 2: horror film that's essentially trying to be its own silent movie.
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: So yeah, that's the kind of dork that he was.
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: One of the aliens, this was a reference I think
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: I noticed quickly, but yeah, they mentioned that one of
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: them is a Boglin, which was one of the toys
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: from the 80s.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: I know exactly what a Boglin was because I remember thinking,
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: I have that somewhere, that exact puppet. And yeah, I
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: didn't mean to cut you off. Boglin, for those of
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: you not familiar, is a hand puppet from the 80s
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: that was just a little latex, creepy crawly looking creature.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: And they were a lot of fun.
- 1:43:03Speaker 2: It was mostly round.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: Mostly round.
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: Just kind of a head with some eyes. You could
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: kind of move them around a little bit, I feel like.
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: You could move the eyes, yeah.
- 1:43:11Speaker 2: Yeah. It didn't do much, but it was so creepy,
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: it made up for it by being super cool and creepy.
- 1:43:16Speaker 2: There were a lot of cool, creepy toys in the 80s.
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: There really were. I approve of that. There are now,
- 1:43:23Speaker 2: but they're a different kind of creepy toy. Now I'm
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: just looking at Labubu's going, what the hell's wrong with kids?
- 1:43:29Speaker 4: I don't know what the hell Labubu is. I don't
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: know if I want to know. Oh.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: How did you miss that one? I feel like that's
- 1:43:34Speaker 2: come and gone already, but it took over the world
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: for a few minutes if you were the kind of
- 1:43:39Speaker 2: kid who cared about that crap.
- 1:43:40Speaker 4: I think what happened was you introduced me to Skibbity Toilet.
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: Oh, God. Ruined your life.
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: That's entirely your fault. I feel like that would have
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: flown under my radar otherwise.
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: And then since then, I've just shut my perception of
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: new toys off.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: Whatever that new... fun dough thing is kids are like
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: lining up for this crap. Now I'm just like, it's
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: some sort of weird dough knockoff. Everything's gotta be a
- 1:44:10Speaker 2: slime knockoff now of like, but like there were paying
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: like a fortune for it. And I'm just like, what
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: is wrong with you? Like, stop letting your kids tell
- 1:44:19Speaker 2: you to buy this stuff for so much money. Cause
- 1:44:21Speaker 2: little boo-boos were going for a fortune when they came out.
- 1:44:24Speaker 2: And I'm just like, what is, when, I remember back
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: in the day, like you'd just, you'd either kill somebody
- 1:44:30Speaker 2: for a cabbage patch kid, or you'd tell your kids,
- 1:44:32Speaker 2: you know what? You're not getting one this year.
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: Tough luck.
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: You just don't get one.
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: You know, the, the toy that, that surprised me that
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: took off. And I saw one of these like about
- 1:44:42Speaker 4: a month before I saw them everywhere. And I thought, well,
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: that's a fun little novelty that, I could see somebody
- 1:44:47Speaker 4: having fun with for like two minutes. It's a stick
- 1:44:51Speaker 4: of butter. Have you seen this?
- 1:44:53Speaker 2: I feel like I heard about this.
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: You can get a rubber stick of butter.
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: What is wrong with children?
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: And that's all it is.
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: Thing is, you'll probably recognize this. I didn't want you
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: to go through and not know what the hell a
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: labubu is. But you've probably seen it and just didn't
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: know that's what it was. Oh yeah, I've seen those.
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: And those are cute. And I can kind of see it,
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: but like people were ready to murder each other for
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: them and paying a small fortune to have. And the
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: fact that they came out with special little clothes for
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: them that people were paying a fortune for and like,
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: My favorite was designers were making clothes. Like you could
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: get like, here's a Gucci onesie for them. That was
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: like Gucci made. Like that's why they were paying a
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: fortune for this kind of stuff. Like it was legit.
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: So like above board that like real people were making
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: things to go along with it as a weird accessory
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: for it. I'm just like, you guys have lost your
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: damn minds.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Granted, I've paid a lot of money for stupid things.
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: As someone who carried home a stack of RCA discs
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: last weekend, I understand buying stupid things, but I at
- 1:46:01Speaker 2: least try to keep it to a minimum. That's not
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: always true. I've paid way too much for stupid shit
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: in my time. But yeah, you got to pick which
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: dumb things you're going to pay way too much for.
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: I bought a lot of stupid overpriced things that no
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: one else would understand. So I guess you pick and
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: choose the dumb things you want to own. like lobster
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: man which you can get a copy of that's also
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: i noticed on their website you can order up i
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: think a fancy dvd of it i don't think they
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: go past dvd but it did have like commentary from
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: the director and like other weird specialty things that you
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: could get on their fancy dvds.
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: Do they have merchandise or like Not much else.
- 1:46:49Speaker 2: I think it was mostly, but there were several other options.
- 1:46:52Speaker 2: There are, I did notice there, I think the director
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: is still out there because I think he's tied to this.
- 1:46:58Speaker 2: I did notice there's like a theater that he used
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: to put on shows like back in the day. He
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: may still like own this theater because there's an upcoming
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: showing of this movie. at a theater like they still
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: do like in person I'm sure it's in LA but
- 1:47:13Speaker 2: like it's the only place you can have that kind
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: of theater that gets enough business that's true they stay
- 1:47:17Speaker 2: in business usually it's like maybe a handful of huge
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: cities maybe your weirdo Austin's kind of thing but like
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: for the most part if it's not LA rep theaters
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: don't survive and even there obviously they keep coming and
- 1:47:30Speaker 2: going so yeah it's hard to make anything work at
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: this point so yeah I was surprised they're still doing
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: in person showings of this so I'm only hoping people
- 1:47:40Speaker 2: show up in giant latex lobster man outfits.
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: I don't know that I need to see this in
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: a theater or ever again.
- 1:47:51Speaker 2: What if you were wearing a gorilla suit with a
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: bowl on your head?
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: I mean, it's likely that could be what I wear
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: to go down to the store. It's true.
- 1:48:04Speaker 2: I wouldn't put it past you.
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: Yeah, actually, I would go see a movie dressed like that,
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: or this movie dressed like that.
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: I don't know why you wouldn't. It seems like it
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: would be fun to see with a group of fans
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: who know this movie, who know the cheesy references. so
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: I feel like it would be a good time at least.
- 1:48:22Speaker 4: It might.
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: I don't know that you need to be there like
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: every weekend, but a one-off time there would be entertaining.
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: Alright.
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: Well, we don't have to roll the die because we
- 1:48:35Speaker 2: paused all that craziness.
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: That's true.
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: So.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: we're still deciding. And most of them, I don't know
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: if we'll work one in before we get into holiday times.
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: We'll have to see. But if not, we've got to
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: figure out what dumb things we want to watch for
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: the holidays this year that aren't even necessarily horror related,
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: which to me, that opened the door. Just like, oh,
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: now there's a lot of horrible things we can watch.
- 1:48:59Speaker 4: There are so many bad holiday themed movies.
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: So we'll have to figure out what those are. If
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: you have votes, you can Email on in and let
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: us know, I suppose. But if not, we'll be back
- 1:49:12Speaker 2: with something in the near future as our maternity leave continues.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: All right.
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: Anything else to pass along?
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: No, other than, yeah, we did our first show without
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: Nora and it was not as bad as I.
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: Thought it would be. I mean, we've done it before.
- 1:49:29Speaker 4: Have we?
- 1:49:30Speaker 2: She has a life. Remember when she got married? We
- 1:49:33Speaker 2: were forced to do things all on our own.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: I remember being at the wedding.
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: No, we did it for a couple of months beforehand
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: because she had a life and she had practicing.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: And every weekend was.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: Rehearsing and dinners and other dinners and other rehearsing for
- 1:49:48Speaker 2: a dinner or something.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: There's too much involved in these weddings.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: So much.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so we avoided most of that until the wedding
- 1:49:55Speaker 2: and then we recorded at least a couple of one-offs
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: because even then, that's why I thought we would do
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: that again this time because last time, left to our
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: own devices, we just did comedies. And we just did
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: silly nonsense. So I was like, that's what we specialize
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: in anyway.
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: I'm a very silly man.
- 1:50:12Speaker 2: Let's head down that road. So that's how we got
- 1:50:14Speaker 2: to Lobster Man. All right. So there you go. We'll
- 1:50:18Speaker 2: be back with some sort of other silly shenanigans in
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: the near future that may or may not be holiday related. Fantastic. Otherwise,
- 1:50:29Speaker 2: that about does it. We will return next time. Same
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: Bye, everybody.
