Oregon’s wildfire season is turning catastrophic, with 77 active fires—33 classified as large—and over 2.3 million acres already scorched this year. The Big Grass Fire in Malheur County has become Oregon’s largest ever, burning 581,000 acres and only 54% contained. Meanwhile, the Rowe Creek Complex, at 373,000 acres, is 81% contained. But new threats loom: the Grasshopper Fire, now 86,000 acres and just 20% contained, is spreading across Wasco, Hood River, and into Mt. Hood National Forest.
