- 0:02Speaker 1: Colin person. So you know Anna, last night's Wilson. Oh yes,
- 0:11I do. So there's really no easy way to save this.
- 0:14So apparently last night she passed away.
- 0:18Speaker 2: This is Colin Strickland and he was just told that
- 0:22his ex girlfriend Anna Wilson was brutally murdered only hours ago.
- 0:36Speaker 3: My friend is staying with me and I just walked
- 0:38in and she's laying on the bathroom floor and her
- 0:42blood everywhere.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Okay, so I stop. I don't know what happened. I
- 0:57just walked in on her.
- 0:59Speaker 2: When first arrived at this gruesome sight, they suspected a
- 1:03robbery gone wrong, but a series of demming clues found
- 1:08at the crime scene quickly pointed to not just a
- 1:11meticulously planned murder, but a deadly love triangle and a
- 1:16killer that was closer to home than anyone expected.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Did you kill them?
- 1:24Speaker 6: No?
- 1:25Speaker 7: No.
- 1:30Speaker 2: On May eleventh, twenty twenty two, police were called to
- 1:33an address after a woman made this disturbing nine one
- 1:36one call.
- 1:38Speaker 8: What's the emergency.
- 1:40Speaker 3: It's seventeen oh eight Maple Avenue.
- 1:43Speaker 7: Okay, tell me exactly what happened.
- 1:45Speaker 3: My friend is staying with me and I just walked
- 1:48in and she's laying on the bathroom floor and there's
- 1:51blood everywhere, and I don't know what happened.
- 1:56Speaker 6: Is she awake, She's not awake.
- 1:58Speaker 3: There's all over her face, all on the back of
- 2:00her head. Is she breathing?
- 2:03Speaker 7: Okay, got the paramedics on the way to help you.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Stay on the line, Caitlin. That caller was Caitlin Cash,
- 2:09and she derived home to find her friend Mariah Wilson,
- 2:12clinging to life after being shot.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Awesome, boys, try to stop, haven't I just walked in
- 2:33on her?
- 2:35Speaker 6: Okay?
- 3:00Speaker 5: Yeah, we heard any shot? Or no?
- 3:07Speaker 2: That's After assessing the situation, officers noticed cerebra spinal fluid
- 3:18or c S for short, oozing onto the floor. This
- 3:20fluid surrounds the brain, meaning the bullets had actually pierced
- 3:24her skull and killed her instantly. This meant there was
- 3:28no saving her no matter what anyone did, but officers
- 3:31could still bring her killer to justice, which is why
- 3:34they need answers right now, answers that only Cash can give,
- 3:38as she is the only witness that officers currently have.
- 3:42Speaker 9: Do you know if he's talking to anyone or any friends?
- 3:45Speaker 1: And I say, you.
- 3:45Speaker 9: Don't live here?
- 3:46Speaker 4: She was with her friend Colin.
- 3:50Speaker 1: It Slin.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Think did you see a gun or anything like that?
- 4:01Speaker 10: Anyone you want, Colin, he said, and you.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Follow you can call Brooks give you his whe number.
- 4:18Speaker 10: From you, he said. So she went swimming with following
- 4:21Stricklin swimming. I left to go have I didn't know
- 4:26where's my that I came back.
- 4:32Speaker 5: How she's staying with me right now.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Police are a bit disoriented as to what exactly went
- 4:37down just hours earlier, but they would soon run into
- 4:40some evidence that would change everything. Worth noting is that

- 6:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just here for bike race this weekend.
- 6:27Speaker 6: Okay?
- 6:28Speaker 5: Did her and Collins have an argument?
- 6:29Speaker 6: Again?
- 6:30Speaker 9: I don't have any together.
- 6:32Speaker 13: The only thing I know is she said I'm needing
- 6:35him to go sweating?
- 6:36Speaker 6: Okay.
- 6:37Speaker 10: What time was that?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Five five pm?
- 6:40Speaker 7: Today?
- 6:40Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 6:41Speaker 9: I mean I can in my text messages.
- 6:43Speaker 2: When the time you saw her?
- 6:44Speaker 1: It was that when you saw her.
- 6:47Speaker 11: Dinner at five thirty?
- 6:51Speaker 7: So you left dinner at five thirty?
- 6:52Speaker 6: What time did you come back?
- 6:54Speaker 14: Right?
- 6:55Speaker 1: Two minutes before?
- 6:56Speaker 9: I called nine?
- 6:57Speaker 6: One oh? Yeah.
- 6:59Speaker 2: According to can, Mariah had been with Colin, her ex boyfriend,
- 7:02all day, and was home only a few minutes before
- 7:05she was found dead. This made Colin a major person
- 7:09of interest that the cops would interview later on, but
- 7:11for now, there are more pressing matters. It turns out
- 7:15Mariah was in town for a bike race and had
- 7:17brought along with her a fourteen thousand dollars racing bike,
- 7:20which could have been a massive target for someone, and
- 7:23as the cops would soon find out that bike was missing,
- 7:27it quickly became a possibility that someone could have been
- 7:29waiting for Maria to be home alone and attempted to
- 7:32rob the bike. Only for Mariah to resist and end
- 7:36up getting killed. This being their only lead, officers needed
- 7:40to trace down where this bike went, as it could
- 7:42take them straight to the murderer.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Y's fight for her cover?
- 7:47Speaker 11: Yeah Alli, there.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So for a few dis force unit right here.
- 7:58Speaker 15: This is her.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Where right inside the door?
- 8:13Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 8:17Speaker 7: Bike?
- 8:19Speaker 8: Anywhere you see a bike? She said she would put
- 8:25it right by the door. No bike, that's a negative joke.
- 8:31Speaker 2: With no trace of the bike in the house, officers
- 8:33decided to begin searching the woods nearby when they made
- 8:36a discovery that showed them they were on the wrong
- 8:39track completely, leaving them with absolutely zero leads.
- 8:44Speaker 7: Hey, come here, somebody might be here.
- 8:47Speaker 10: This might be the bike.
- 8:48Speaker 7: Okay, okay, all right, cod the bike.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Since the bike was dumped nearby, officers suspected that this
- 9:10was placed as a red herring for them to chase.
- 9:12Officers are being tricked, and if the killer is smart
- 9:16enough to trick officers, they're also smart enough to begin
- 9:19covering up their tracks. This is why the officers swiftly
- 9:22moved to gather evidence from the scene, the most important
- 9:25of which are the shellcasings from the bullets used. Those
- 9:36bullet shells will help cops identify the gun used. Now,
- 9:40they just had to find that gun and the shooter,
- 9:43who officers initially believed could have been Cash. It is
- 9:46for this reason that officers bring Cash back to the
- 9:48police station in order to conduct a crucial test to
- 9:51confirm whether she's innocent or not.
- 9:53Speaker 5: So let me tell you this find no means of
- 9:57the world. Do I think the udidity of this?
- 10:00Speaker 16: Okay?
- 10:01Speaker 5: But so what they're going to do.
- 10:03Speaker 15: We're just going to have to swab your hands for
- 10:06gunshop residue.
- 10:09Speaker 5: If we don't do this to you, didn't in court
- 10:13they can help. What about this other person? Why didn't
- 10:15you do this part of the investigation.
- 10:17Speaker 2: A GSR or gunshot residue swab test of Cash's hands
- 10:21presented a negative result. Considering that Mariah was in a
- 10:25very narrow space of the home, officers concluded that Caitlin
- 10:28could not have been the one to murder her. Fortunately,
- 10:30though Cash did provide an important piece of information, The
- 10:34last person in contact with Mariah was Colin Strickland. Digging
- 10:39deeper into this, cops discovered that the two were having
- 10:41drinks at a nearby cafe and have never suspected that
- 10:44this would be the last time that they saw each other.
- 10:47This is why Colin was an important lead who could
- 10:49give officers valuable insight about the events leading up to
- 10:52the murder. But before police went into interview Colin, they
- 10:55noticed some houses in the neighborhood had CCTV cameras installed,
- 10:58which could possibly help the killer's identity. When investigators watched
- 11:02the footage back, they found something very interesting. CCTV footage
- 11:14revealed this black jeep driving directly towards Cash's home, where
- 11:18Mariah was staying that night. The moment it arrived, ring
- 11:22cameras caught this gut wrenching audio, and immediately after the shooting,
- 11:34the killer escaped. Although this was a massive breakthrough, there
- 11:41was one glaring issue. Officers had no way of identifying
- 11:44the driver. After all, the cameras were too grainy and
- 11:48the vehicle was too far away for officers to get
- 11:50a shot of the driver or run the plates. However,
- 11:52only a few days later, they come across something incredibly
- 11:56interesting when going to question Colin Strickland, Mariah's ex boyfriend. Yeah,
- 12:07this is the same black jeep that officers saw on
- 12:10cameras parked right outside Colin's home.
- 12:18Speaker 11: Colin Hey, so do you know Annah Mo? Yeah, every
- 12:30everybody calls her, moh.
- 12:34Speaker 12: Last night's Wilson writer. She's a girl writer.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Okay, so he's what you say.
- 12:46Speaker 12: So apparently last night she passed away?
- 12:54Speaker 10: How did.
- 12:56Speaker 15: She?
- 12:57Speaker 12: Right now, it's a it's an investigation, but it is begated.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Right now, the cops know he was the last person
- 13:07to see her alive. They've discovered a vehicle in his
- 13:10driveway that matches the one captured on security cameras, and
- 13:12it even has a bicycle rack attached to the rear end.
- 13:15Colin Strickland has just become their number one suspect, but
- 13:19he doesn't realize this yet as officers continue to question him.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Okay, do you happen to have her mom's chance?
- 13:39Speaker 5: I know that.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I have an address for her brother of who're just
- 13:44trying to send someone to her mom's addresses?
- 13:48Speaker 17: That it was actually her phone. I didn't know how,
- 13:53I don't know. Yeah, sure, so a part that.
- 14:09Speaker 6: She's been staying.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely sixth burdens.
- 14:16Speaker 2: The cop intentionally avoided telling Colin how Mariah died, as
- 14:20they do with any suspect in a murder case, but
- 14:22they noticed his body language is concerning as he is
- 14:25barely able to look them in the eyes. This could
- 14:28either be because of pure shock as the two had
- 14:30spent the previous day together, or in the worst case scenario,
- 14:33he's afraid to look them in the eyes because he
- 14:36had something to do with the murder. So to uncover
- 14:38these secrets, police started looking into Colin's life and his
- 14:42history with Mariah. This is when they discovered Caitlin Armstrong,
- 14:45Colin's girlfriend, who separated from him in October twenty twenty one,
- 14:50but then got back together a month later in November. However,
- 14:53during their break up period, he had a month long
- 14:56romantic affair with Mariah and remained in contact with her
- 14:59even after he resumed his relationship with Caitlin. Immediately, officers
- 15:03begin suspecting that Caitlin could be one of the major
- 15:06suspects in this investigation. These suspicions were further confirmed when
- 15:10they ran the place of the black jeep and found
- 15:12that it didn't belong to Colin, but it was actually
- 15:15owned by Caitlin. Considering that Colin was good friends with
- 15:19Mariah and Caitlyn hated this, this made her a suspect
- 15:22in this investigation. So to get to the bottom of this.
- 15:25Officers bring in Colin two days after the murder in
- 15:28order to achieve two objectives with one interview. The first
- 15:31would be able to see whether Colin has a solid
- 15:34alibi that he can present to the officers. After all,
- 15:36whether he did it or not, Colin was the last
- 15:39person to see Mariah alive. And the second is to
- 15:42gather information that can be used against other suspects like Caitlin.
- 15:47Speaker 15: And he sent his own left six thirty to.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Because it must about seven five or even later, probably
- 16:03maybe more like me.
- 16:04Speaker 15: Yeah, just as it was getting dark, okay, we went
- 16:08straight to her place and it wasn't dark yet.
- 16:10Speaker 5: It was I want just get cooling off, and it
- 16:13was like awesome evening. Okay.
- 16:16Speaker 15: What about whatever y'all were at the at the bar,
- 16:19was there anybody that was like watching y'all or.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Actually was acting weird with Mo or Mo didn't know
- 16:29He's doesn't live here, So no, not at all.
- 16:32Speaker 16: Yeah, nobody anybody did like trying to hit on her
- 16:37at the bar or anything or no.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Okay, no, not that I saw, nor that she mentioned.
- 16:41I didn't notice anything after or to be honest, at
- 16:44the bar.
- 16:44Speaker 2: The cops are looking for more than just details of
- 16:47what he and Mariah did that day. They're going to
- 16:49try and figure out why exactly the black vehicle from
- 16:52the murder scene was conveniently parked at Collins home.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Whenever I was over there earlier, I saw there was
- 16:59the the.
- 17:00Speaker 16: Other car, because you said that you you drive a motorcycle,
- 17:03and then you drove the Mercedes.
- 17:04Speaker 5: Drove a Mercedes up here. I guess the other one
- 17:07is is hers my girlfriend Caitlyn. Okay, so that belongs
- 17:10to her.
- 17:10Speaker 18: Okay, all right, so you got back around like seven
- 17:13thirty long exactly when that was?
- 17:16Speaker 15: I think I did to get texted Caitlyn as I
- 17:19was leaving, just saying here are you's still out getting food?
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm more like eight thirty is when I dropped
- 17:25her op at her house. Okay, I thank you. Just
- 17:26before dark, I texted Caitlin as I like after I left.
- 17:30Speaker 15: Okay, And that was whenever you says eight thirty six,
- 17:33I think she was gonna yoga class.
- 17:35Speaker 5: She showed up close. So you you're being back home,
- 17:40she's not home. What time was it that she got home? Sure,
- 17:44right after I texted her, probably nine twenty years so
- 17:49it's nine twenty one, okay, where where has she been?
- 17:54Like that whole?
- 17:56Speaker 15: She had actually a laser hair removal apploytment, she said.
- 18:00Speaker 5: In the seven PM Downtown Uh huh. And then after that,
- 18:05I'm not exactly sure. She texted me asking if I
- 18:08wanted to meet.
- 18:08Speaker 15: Up, and I didn't reply, and then I didn't see
- 18:11her or hear from her until till I was back
- 18:15at home, and he's.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Saying anything like whatever she got home? Where has you been?
- 18:20Speaker 13: You know?
- 18:21Speaker 5: Was shooting her like a yoga out with carrying a
- 18:23yoga man.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Although Colin had heard from Caitlin the night of the murder,
- 18:27he couldn't give her a solid alibi and didn't even
- 18:30know exactly where she did her yoga classes. He also
- 18:33managed to avoid mentioning his romantic affair with Mariah, but
- 18:36he'll soon be left with no choice but to tell
- 18:38the cops everything.
- 18:40Speaker 5: So how long had you Caitlin been dating? About a
- 18:44year and a half maybe two years actually, okay? And
- 18:47then how long wasn't y'all broken up? Whatever y'all got
- 18:50being on?
- 18:51Speaker 6: Very long?
- 18:52Speaker 5: Actually?
- 18:53Speaker 16: While you were dating Mo, Caitlin is still living with you.
- 18:57She was moving out Okay, I mean she had another house,
- 19:01was a sister in town, and yeah, it was definitely very.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I was about to say that would probably pretty pretty.
- 19:10It definitely was. Onward, it was kind of almost like something.
- 19:13Speaker 18: I felt like i'd like to which is so, why
- 19:20was it that you had to change the name from
- 19:22O your phone just because I don't.
- 19:25Speaker 15: Know, because in the past Kaalen has looked at my
- 19:28phone and I just didn't want to.
- 19:31Speaker 5: I just didn't want to surface.
- 19:34Speaker 15: Basically, I would always start fight exactly basically nobody else.
- 19:37Speaker 6: Can have you.
- 19:38Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you know, so she's kind of jealous, understandable,
- 19:43I mean exactly unique to.
- 19:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I got you.
- 19:47Speaker 2: After listening to Colin, officers achieved what they set out
- 19:50to do. First, they cleared Colin, who had texts and
- 19:54times to back up his alibi. Secondly, they managed to
- 19:56gather information about Caitlin, whose entire story is shady. That
- 20:01means that out of the three suspects that officers have Colin,
- 20:05Cash and Kaitlin, only Caitlyn's movements are entirely unaccounted for.
- 20:10This is why cops were now more suspicious of her
- 20:13than ever, but had no irrefutable evidence to arrest Kaitlin,
- 20:17at least not until the cops searched the police database
- 20:21and hit the jackpot. Kaitlin Armstrong had a warrant on
- 20:24her head for a minor infraction. It was all they
- 20:27needed to bring her in and then use it as
- 20:29an excuse to question her about Mariah.
- 20:32Speaker 13: All right, So I'm Detective Connor, and so my partner
- 20:36is actually talking to Colin right now. So I wanted
- 20:41to come in here and start chat with you and everything,
- 20:42so you don't have to wait super long. So it
- 20:46sounds like you may have some information made witness something,
- 20:49So I just wanted to chat with you about some stuff.
- 20:52But you're here for a warrant right now. I guess
- 20:56are you familiar with what you have going on with that?
- 20:59No idea, okay, So I guess it was like a
- 21:01theft of service warrants than kind of minor.
- 21:05Speaker 9: Okay, So that's why you're here. You've got a.
- 21:08Speaker 13: Theft of service warrant, that's why you got picked up
- 21:10today and everything.
- 21:11Speaker 9: So I was just letting you know on that part.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Observe how the detective maintains an almost nonchalant demeanor despite
- 21:18the gravity of the situation. This is deliberately done to
- 21:21create a sense of security for Caitlin, ensuring she remains
- 21:24unaware that she is under any suspicion by the police.
- 21:27Despite this, Caitlyn appears noticeably tense and uneasy.
- 21:31Speaker 9: Can you tell me what it was that was the
- 21:35theft of service?
- 21:37Speaker 13: I can look I'm not sure what it is at
- 21:40this point, but I can look that up later and
- 21:43get you a little bit more information on that for sure.
- 21:45But because you are here, and because you were under
- 21:48us for that portion of it, we always have to
- 21:50read Miranda's because I want to talk to you about
- 21:52some other stuff that's unrelated to that.
- 21:54Speaker 2: The officer has ignored Caitlyn's questions about her warrant because
- 21:58she is more focused on digging up information about Mariah's murder,
- 22:01a tactic that becomes dangerous as Caitlin begins to raise
- 22:05concerns about her legal counsel.
- 22:07Speaker 14: If I have an existing warrant and that you don't
- 22:10know what it's about, do I need an attorney here?
- 22:13Speaker 13: So the warrant is just a class be just that't
- 22:16a service type thing. The reason I'm here is because
- 22:19your name came up during a conversation with Colin. I
- 22:24think there's a lot more information that you have that
- 22:26can kind of explain some of the stuff he's saying.
- 22:29But to be able to do that, I have to
- 22:30read you your rights just so that you know and
- 22:32you're protected and things like that.
- 22:34Speaker 9: Okay, okay. And so if you're reading me my rights.
- 22:37Speaker 13: That's because of the warrant, because you're under arrest for
- 22:40the warrant, So you're technically in custody because of that warrant.
- 22:44So they're two separate things.
- 22:45Speaker 9: Does that make sense? I think so, But I have
- 22:48never heard.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Even though they have Caitlin exactly where they want her,
- 22:54one tiny mistake is about to allow someone cops suspect
- 22:58to be a killer to walk away scott free.
- 23:02Speaker 13: Well, so that's what they were just knocking on the
- 23:07door is apparently that warrant the data birth was wrong,
- 23:09so it had your name, but the data birth is wrong,
- 23:12so it's to a different person. So that's not You're
- 23:15not under arrest. Okay, Okay, I know it's a little crazy.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Although the cop tries to make a joke of the situation,
- 23:23Caitlin now knows that she can leave whenever she wishes.
- 23:26After all, cops have no legal ground to hold her
- 23:29any longer. This is why it's down to this cop
- 23:32to try and convince her that talking is the right
- 23:35thing to do.
- 23:36Speaker 13: But I would really like to talk to you and
- 23:39clear some stuff up because Colin did bring your name up,
- 23:43and I think there's a lot more information that you
- 23:45have that can kind of clear some stuff up.
- 23:49Speaker 9: Does that make sense? It makes sense. I feel like
- 23:51I should have an attorney present.
- 23:53Speaker 13: So that's totally your choice.
- 23:55Speaker 5: You.
- 23:56Speaker 13: So at this point, you are free to leave at
- 23:58any point. So this is going to be essential at
- 24:00this white because you're not under arrest.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Okay, to make matters worse, Caitlin has just requested an attorney. Legally,
- 24:07the detective is now bound to cease any and all
- 24:10questioning related to Mariah's murder, but she's about to thread
- 24:14a very dangerous line of breaking the law in order
- 24:17to get any information out of Caitlin.
- 24:20Speaker 5: I would love to leave.
- 24:21Speaker 14: He loved the foster arrested me in front of my house,
- 24:23in front of all of my neighbors, and carried me
- 24:25in here in handcuffs, in.
- 24:25Speaker 9: Front of Yeah, in Austin.
- 24:27Speaker 13: It was incredibly I can't imagine. Yeah, and I'm so sorry.
- 24:31I don't have control.
- 24:32Speaker 9: Over that part. Okay, I'm not upset with you. So
- 24:35there's a situation that's going on.
- 24:37Speaker 13: Did you hear about what's happened over the past twenty
- 24:40four hours?
- 24:40Speaker 14: Colin walked in the house and said, one of the
- 24:42women in the second community passed away.
- 24:44Speaker 17: Yes.
- 24:45Speaker 13: Yeah. While Colin was talking to us, your name came up.
- 24:49And so that's where I would really like to talk
- 24:51to you, because it sounds like there are some some
- 24:55issues between you and this girl, and I think that
- 24:58there's probably a lot more to it that you could
- 25:01help explain.
- 25:03Speaker 9: Okay, I'm not sure exactly what you mean or what information.
- 25:06Speaker 13: Well, so it sounds like maybe he went out with
- 25:09this girl the other day, and maybe it sounds like
- 25:13from what he's saying.
- 25:14Speaker 9: That you were a little upset about it.
- 25:17Speaker 13: And so that's why I kind of wanted to get
- 25:18your side of it, because that's not fair if he's
- 25:21just saying one thing and trying to go down a route,
- 25:25I want to.
- 25:25Speaker 9: Make sure that's not the case, that it's not accurate.
- 25:29Speaker 13: Yeah, and that's why I wanted to chat with you,
- 25:31because it's a guy. He's gonna say stuff, and so
- 25:35we want to make sure that we get both sides
- 25:36of the story and everything and clear it up. So
- 25:39what were you doing yesterday?
- 25:41Speaker 9: I would like to leave. I think you would.
- 25:43Speaker 5: Like to leave.
- 25:44Speaker 13: Yeah, okay, but understand if you do, then we only
- 25:47have one side of the story to go on, and
- 25:50from what we're hearing from Colin, you know it's one
- 25:53side in it.
- 25:55Speaker 14: Well, I just am uncertain as to even what you
- 25:59mean or what he could said because I didn't have
- 26:01any exactly and he saw or went out with this girl.
- 26:05Speaker 13: Okay, yeahs had he been like talking to everyone tonight,
- 26:10I don't actually know, And I would like to leave.
- 26:14Speaker 5: Okay.
- 26:15Speaker 2: At this point, getting Caitlin to talk willingly seems like
- 26:18a lost cause she knows she can walk out of
- 26:21the station and nobody can stop her. So the detective
- 26:23decides to drop their bombshell evidence in the hope she
- 26:27might crack.
- 26:28Speaker 13: And your vehicle was seen next to her house, and
- 26:34we needed to talk about that, okay, because when he's
- 26:37saying the stuff and then your vehicle is seen, like
- 26:40I want to be able to explain, Okay, there's a
- 26:43logical explanation for this. If you were upset and you
- 26:46were just in the area or something like, I don't know,
- 26:49because I don't have your story.
- 26:51Speaker 5: When I can't explain.
- 26:52Speaker 13: That and all I see is that your vehicle's over there,
- 26:55that that kind of makes it look not too good, right, okay.
- 27:00And then when we're talking to Colin and we're hearing like, yeah,
- 27:03there was some some jealousy stuff going on, that doesn't
- 27:07sound very good. And so that's why I really want
- 27:10to get your side of the story, because maybe there's
- 27:12a lot more going on.
- 27:16Speaker 14: I would like to leave if I'm free to leave, okay.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Unfortunately, there was nothing that officers could do to stop
- 27:23Caitlyn from walking out at this point. They were incredibly
- 27:27suspicious of her, as her behavior throughout the interrogation meant
- 27:31that she was hiding something. But if officers couldn't find
- 27:34out what this was from Caitlin, they'd do it from
- 27:37the one person who knew her best, Colin Strickland, who
- 27:41was called in a second time for an interview in
- 27:43hopes of uncovering more information about Caitlin. However, there is
- 27:47one problem. This time. Colin brought his lawyer with him,
- 27:51and questioning him is about to become exponentially harder.
- 27:55Speaker 15: How was how is Caitlyn during that time, were saying
- 28:00she went too happy whenever she saw them. Caitlin had
- 28:05we were after Mo. It was in Austin for a
- 28:07week and we had sept I had broken up with
- 28:12Kaitlin before MO came to town, and then I actually
- 28:18did not know that she was coming to Austin in October.
- 28:20Speaker 5: I had no idea.
- 28:21Speaker 15: I hadn't discussed that and I don't think so it
- 28:24felt like a surprise. And then she was here and
- 28:26I just said, oh, let's hang out. I was mentally
- 28:30ready to kind of move on. And I know after
- 28:32Mo left town after a week, Caitlyn's things are still
- 28:36at my house. We were sleeping in separate rooms, and effectively,
- 28:41you know, Caitlyn was on bumble. I know she had
- 28:44made several dates with people, and I don't know, I
- 28:47never asked, like, what, how, what they were, what extent
- 28:50they were evolving a relationship. But I know that she
- 28:53went on had several men that she was dating of sorts,
- 28:58and I was fine with it. I mean that was
- 29:00kind of the understanding, of course, and so yeah, it
- 29:04just seems very weird to me that she would be
- 29:06that there would be any dwelling on Vincent's fighting on
- 29:11a person when she was like lively, you know, moving
- 29:17on to other relationships, you know at that time.
- 29:21Speaker 2: From what Colin says, the two clearly had a troubled relationship,
- 29:26especially considering the facts that both Colin and Caitlyn rebounded
- 29:29well on break. This is why officers need to dig
- 29:32deeper into what Caitlyn acted like both during and after
- 29:36this time to determine if she showed obsessive traits in
- 29:38her personality.
- 29:40Speaker 15: It's just kind of going back to me just trying
- 29:42to figure out like just kind of how she is,
- 29:45her personality and stuff.
- 29:46Speaker 19: I mean, if you were to ask me about, like, hey,
- 29:49how is your wife, Well, yeah, I know, I'm going
- 29:52to tell you, yeah, she's always happy. But does she
- 29:54get mad? Yes, everybody gets mad, that's natural, you know.
- 29:56I'm not going to blow that out of proportion. I
- 30:00think that my wife could go and kill somebody. No,
- 30:02there's no way in the world do I think my
- 30:04wife would hit somebody.
- 30:05Speaker 16: Now, if you asked me that about my six year
- 30:07old son, yeah, it wouldn't surprise if you wouldn't punch somebody.
- 30:12Speaker 15: I don't think Kato would fight somebody. No, I honestly don't,
- 30:16because it would be two.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I don't know. Do I think Caitlyn could kill somebody, No,
- 30:23I don't.
- 30:24Speaker 2: If Caitlin had been planning to murder Mariah, Colin was
- 30:28about to make it clear he suspected nothing all along,
- 30:32I said.
- 30:32Speaker 20: I think I think y'all need to stop talking to
- 30:35each other. You need separate yourselves from each other while
- 30:39the fact finding is going on. It's nothing would be helpful,
- 30:41of course, and so I don't think there's been very
- 30:45much it do.
- 30:46Speaker 9: I not been any to being together.
- 30:48Speaker 15: Since she left, and I left Saturday Friday, Starry Friday, midday,
- 30:53eventually to get a new simpcard from my phone, which
- 30:55I assumed was okay, yeah, have the same name, you're lacked, yeah,
- 31:00and then soclaire. Since then, I have.
- 31:07Speaker 7: Not.
- 31:07Speaker 5: I haven't spoken with Caitlyn or seen her and.
- 31:12Speaker 16: Like to.
- 31:13Speaker 15: So the two detectives, you know, two detectives came by
- 31:15my house yesterday and looked at that, asking if she
- 31:18was there, if I had seen where she was, and
- 31:21my father had contacted her that yesterday morning he had
- 31:24gotten in touch with her. I gave him the number
- 31:26that Caitlyn had given her mutual attorney. Has she ever
- 31:32mentioned in the past of wanting to hurt? Well, no,
- 31:37she's never mentioned wanting to physically hurt. Do you think
- 31:41that that she is capable? If I thought she was
- 31:45physically capable of hurting another human, I would have extricated
- 31:49myself immediately from that situation, not only for my not
- 31:53so much for my own personal safety, but my concern
- 31:56for another human.
- 32:00Speaker 9: So was the answer?
- 32:01Speaker 15: The answer is no, I don't believe in any way
- 32:04she's capable of that. The gun range that she visited
- 32:08with her sister, do you know where that gun range is?
- 32:12I think it was South By thirty five. I told
- 32:16them to go to the reds which is now something else,
- 32:19which is the one I drove passed on my way
- 32:21to school for twelve years at the Waldorf School.
- 32:25Speaker 5: That they went to another one because a mutual friend.
- 32:28Speaker 6: Had been there.
- 32:29Speaker 9: You bought the guns, right, I.
- 32:31Speaker 5: Bought the guns?
- 32:32Speaker 13: Yes?
- 32:32Speaker 2: Was that.
- 32:34Speaker 15: I think December early December. There's a receipt with them.
- 32:40I'm sure you could look at them.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Seat And an ironic twist, Colin had bought Caitlin a
- 32:45gun for self defense, but after police conducted a firearm examination.
- 32:49It just so happened that the bullets it used were
- 32:52the same caliber that were found near Mariah's body. So far,
- 32:56the cops had evidence of Caitlyn's car at the scene,
- 32:58they knew about her obsessive behavior, and they knew she
- 33:01owned the same model of gun that was used to
- 33:03kill Mariah. But while they searched for her whereabouts, the
- 33:07investigation continued to uncover crucial and damning evidence that not
- 33:11only heavily suggested Caitlin was responsible for Mariah's death, but
- 33:15also cleared Colin of any wrongdoing. The cops gathered all
- 33:19cell phone data and compared it to the surveillance footage,
- 33:22allowing them to map the movements of Mariah, Colin, and Caitlin.
- 33:25On the night of May eleventh, twenty twenty two, Colin
- 33:29and Mariah were at Poolburger after their swim and were
- 33:32there around seven pm. When they left, they headed to
- 33:35Maple Avenue, but didn't realize that Caitlin was stalking them
- 33:39and was driving in the same direction. Caitlin thought that
- 33:42turning off her cell phone would cover her tracks, but
- 33:45the surveillance footage caught her, and what it shows is
- 33:47a black jeep eerily similar to Caitlyn's closing in on
- 33:50the house where Mariah was killed. As Colin dropped Mariah
- 33:54off at the Maple Avenue address, both were completely unaware
- 33:57that Caitlin was secretly stalking them. Only yards away, the
- 34:01same black jeep had driven down the back alley of
- 34:03Maple Avenue and was slowly heading toward Mariah's address. Moments
- 34:07after Colin left. A neighbor's doorbell camera captured audio of
- 34:11Mariah screaming for her life before she was murdered. Colin's
- 34:22self phone placed him driving away from the area before
- 34:24Mariah's death and cleared him as a suspect. This meant
- 34:28that the only person who could have killed Mariah was Caitlin.
- 34:31All that was left to do was arrest her, but
- 34:34when officers went to find her, they discovered a massive problem.
- 34:39Just hours before they solved the murder, Caitlin had left
- 34:42the country under a fraudulent passport, which was originally her sisters.
- 34:47Caitlin likely did this to avoid using her own passport
- 34:50in case officers were keeping tabs on her, but the
- 34:53fraudulent passport gave her enough time to escape. After getting
- 34:57a search warrant for her Gmail records, officers found a
- 35:00flight ticket that was booked for a one way flight
- 35:02to Costa Rica. Even CCTV footage obtained from Austin bergstrom
- 35:07An International Airport in Austin showed her boarding into the plane.
- 35:10An initial investigation into her records showed that she had
- 35:13booked a hostel in Santa Teresa Beach while working as
- 35:16a yoga instructor. So to lure her out, an officer
- 35:19sent a message out on social media asking for a
- 35:22yoga teacher in the local area. Soon, Caitlyn took the
- 35:25bait and replied to the ad and agreed to meet up.
- 35:29But in the month that she'd been on the run,
- 35:32she'd taken some extreme measures in order to conceal her identity.
- 35:35Caitlin had undergone several surgical operations to alter her appearance,
- 35:40but there was no fooling the arresting officer, who recognized
- 35:43Caitlin from her eyes. She was arrested and flown back
- 35:47to the United States, where she was charged with attempted murder. However,
- 35:52that wasn't the end of it, because in October twenty
- 35:55twenty three, Caitlin tried to escape again by taking advantage
- 35:59of a doctor's appoint outside of jail. She can be
- 36:02seen here fleeing from the cops after she jumped from
- 36:04a bathroom window. This time she was caught almost instantly.
- 36:09If the several attempts to escape justice and falsifying of
- 36:12documents weren't enough to convince a jury Caitlin was guilty,
- 36:16then the surveillance footage and the testimony of Colin Strickland,
- 36:19and most importantly, the ballistic analysis that matched the gun
- 36:23to the shellcasings, found that the scene of the crime
- 36:26certainly were enough to convince them. Consequently, a year and
- 36:29a half later, on November sixteenth, twenty twenty three, Caitlin
- 36:33was found guilty of first degree murder and she was
- 36:37sentenced to ninety years in prison for the cold blooded
- 36:40murder of Mariah Wilson.
