- 0:00You think of a real or a social media post like a seed out there
- 0:05all by itself, doing its job, linked to SEO, hashtags and
- 0:11keywords in your post. And.
- 0:13Depending on what kind of audience you have, seeing the
- 0:18growth, seeing each individual post act like a way to get a
- 0:29client, get the word out about you.
- 0:33So if you're a small business out there, that's what I do and
- 0:38I love doing it and I'm good at it.
- 0:42You want to think of those personalities under your roof.
- 0:46The funny guy in the kitchen nobody sees in your restaurant?
- 0:50Film him. Sure.
- 0:52The people who's cooking their food, you'll get more people.
- 0:57That's the tip for today. Go hiking.
- 1:32The views and opinions expressed on the Morning Wood show are
- 1:35strictly those of a crazy lady in a tree and most definitely
- 1:39not the views of military broadcast radio.
- 1:42You've been warned. Proceed with caution.
- 1:44We are not liable if you laugh so hard you fall out of your
- 1:47chair. So grab your spoon, smack that
- 1:50rooster and let's get this day started right.
- 1:52Let's get ready for the Morning wood.
- 1:55Cool Cadoodle. All right.
- 2:22Well, we are. We're live.
- 2:24We hope that you guys can hear us.
- 2:29Hey, hey, hey, to all our listeners out there, good
- 2:31morning. This is your favorite morning
- 2:34wood. It is time to rise and.
- 2:39Sizzle yeah, we we have no idea if this is working or not.
- 2:43I just. Kept telling all our secrets.
- 2:46We. Checked our checked our
- 2:47Facebook. Yeah, we have.
- 2:49Audio. We do have audio.
- 2:50OK then, fantastic. You know what?
- 2:52This is the first time that MBR has ever been on Yeah, turn my
- 2:58mic down a little bit if you know which one it is.
- 3:02This is the first time that we've ever did this on remote.
- 3:05We like, we're literally doing this in a field, you guys,
- 3:09we're. In a field there's a little some
- 3:12some grasshoppers, but you know, if you see me in the background
- 3:15hopping with them, it's because I've had a lot of coffee.
- 3:18Holly, you can sit down. You can sit down.
- 3:20I'm happy. OK.
- 3:22All right. Well, so how was your drive in?
- 3:24It was. Actually really peaceful.
- 3:27Yeah, it's. A nice area over here.
- 3:30Isn't it beautiful? It's a nice dry.
- 3:32We're we're live from Longmont. We're at mile.
- 3:35High skydiving, yes, it is really.
- 3:39It's really weird. So when you put in the address
- 3:41into ways or whatever way you do come, what's going to happen is
- 3:49you're going to see the address and then you got to go up a
- 3:52little bit. And then we have the brand new
- 3:55MBR banner that the Dietz family that Ray they they donated.
- 4:01We have a nice little banner out there to kind of show people,
- 4:05Hey, it's here, you kind of turn here.
- 4:08So we got good thing. Now this is a little bit
- 4:11different, Holly, because, you know, I spent more time worrying
- 4:15and trying to get this set up rather than your, your, your
- 4:18mind. Is like winding.
- 4:20Down yeah, now. We're like, you know.
- 4:22Yeah, can. You imagine like hustling and
- 4:25putting all this what a what a crew here.
- 4:28You guys are epic. I got here early.
- 4:30It. Literally looks like.
- 4:32A full I tried to get here early.
- 4:34They the cop don't like me too much.
- 4:36He he pulled me over. So I, I got AI got a nice 4th of
- 4:40July ticket to remember this event by.
- 4:43Yeah, really. Yeah.
- 4:46I you know when it's an officer on a bike.
- 4:50He's not answered by Dunkin. Donuts and you might want to
- 4:52turn my mic down a little bit because I don't want to blow
- 4:55anybody's speakers out yeah but and turn Holly's up a little bit
- 5:01I can't hardly hear her. I can't hear myself gain.
- 5:05Make sure her gain's up I'm. Up.
- 5:08Oh, there we go. All right, all right, So man, it
- 5:12has been a week and I'll tell you what.
- 5:14So we have Channel 9 coming out. We do, we do.
- 5:18I, I, I got a confirmation and they were really excited.
- 5:23I sent an e-mail yesterday about what was.
- 5:25Going on, did you pull strings? I, I guess the e-mail worked.
- 5:31I was, I was asking for click, click bait in the e-mail
- 5:34heading. And then like literally minutes
- 5:37after I sent an e-mail, Evan from Channel 9 News was like,
- 5:41can we strap Gopros on your people?
- 5:43I was like, yes, hell yeah. Yes.
- 5:46And so I'm excited. So what, what we got people
- 5:50showing up here, what by 9:00, you guys are going to go through
- 5:53the whole safety dance. I I.
- 5:56Guess I guess so I, you know, I have AI have a friend, I have a
- 6:01friend Edge is coming and the interesting story about my
- 6:04friend Edge coming is he was supposed to do the skydiving
- 6:09last time, but he had a PTSD episode so he had to he had to
- 6:15sit out of skydiving last time. This time he's going to be
- 6:20skydiving, so it's like. That's awesome, yeah.
- 6:24Yeah, it is a big deal. And you know, for for him to
- 6:28hey, I want to give this a go. I want to try this again.
- 6:32It's outstanding because, you know, look, it's not just
- 6:35skydiving. This is a moment that you're
- 6:39gaining independence from, you know, your disability.
- 6:42No, you're probably thinking to yourself, oh, well, I ain't got
- 6:45no disability. Well, let me tell you something.
- 6:47If you wear glasses, that's a disability.
- 6:51If you have traumatic brain injury, if you talk like you're
- 6:55drunk like I do sometimes, yeah, that's a disability.
- 6:58Anything can be a disability. And the one thing that I.
- 7:00Was trying to say is don't judge right right?
- 7:03Exactly. And the one thing that I like
- 7:05about this is not only do we have 3 vets skydiving, but we
- 7:09have 3 firefighters now. We have just opened military
- 7:15broadcast radio to 1st responders last year.
- 7:18So this is a big deal. And I find that a lot of
- 7:22nonprofits, they, they say, hey, you know, we're, we want to
- 7:26honor, we want to honor veterans and we want to honor first
- 7:29responders, But not a lot of nonprofits really key into that.
- 7:35They don't really bring in first responders.
- 7:37So this is a big deal, especially for firefighters
- 7:40because we all know they're going to get called today
- 7:43because somebody's going to blow off the fingers.
- 7:45Oh geez. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:47But stay. Safe with the fireworks.
- 7:49Out there, serious happy forest. Happy Independence Day to
- 7:52everybody out there. I mean, it's gosh, and and I
- 7:56feel like we are in God's country and I'm like, I'm
- 7:58looking forward to some serious fireworks.
- 8:00And then you guys, you know, doing the the kiss and pray up
- 8:05up above, right. So what are you going Joel?
- 8:09Are you are you jumping? I'm I'm not planning on it.
- 8:12You're not what I'm not planning on it.
- 8:14You just came here for your buddies.
- 8:15I just came. Here for my buddies.
- 8:17I'll go I'll go with them if it's free.
- 8:20You have to be a veteran or a first responder or I would.
- 8:24I'm deaf. I'm deaf in my right ear.
- 8:25I'm disabled. You're you're trying to go.
- 8:28Yeah, Heck yeah. Where?
- 8:29Where? Lucas is going.
- 8:31What are you going to yell? Are you going to yell like unga
- 8:32bunga or something fun? Go get over here.
- 8:35Get out. There.
- 8:36Get over here. We're so bossy.
- 8:38Get over here. Get over here.
- 8:43We got people in the parking lot checking us out.
- 8:46No, I mean like nothing exciting.
- 8:49I'm not going to get crazy with it.
- 8:51You're not going to get crazy with it.
- 8:53I don't know if those earphones work or not, I haven't tested
- 8:55them. Oh, they do.
- 8:57OK, perfect. So anything going through your
- 9:00mind right now like? Oh, I mean, I'm did.
- 9:04You call your mom. No, no.
- 9:08Actually, actually. I didn't, and I had and I had
- 9:10thought about it. But.
- 9:13OK, you can't tell your mom to mom.
- 9:16I mean, if my son was jumping out of a plane, I didn't know
- 9:18about it. I'd be like, what did I not do?
- 9:23So since the sun is in our eyes, we have no idea what everybody's
- 9:27saying. We we know that Charles is
- 9:31tuning in, but I we're in a. Field of Dreams, he says.
- 9:34Yeah. Literally Field of Dreams.
- 9:37Amber saying happy for us. If you build it, they will come.
- 9:41Yes. And guess what?
- 9:43It's built. So I, I, I, I got some more
- 9:46questions for you, Lucas. Yeah, 'cause I'm super curious,
- 9:49right? Right.
- 9:51So you didn't call your mom, did you?
- 9:54Did you tell anybody like your show people like it's just.
- 9:59No, no, just gonna like, I mean, you know, and and, and in my
- 10:04defense, like you did come together fairly quickly.
- 10:07But. But yeah, I don't know.
- 10:12It's. Fair.
- 10:12Oddly enough, Like I kind of in a weird way, I just kind of feel
- 10:17like this one's for me kind of, you know?
- 10:20And. And so I don't know, I and I
- 10:25mean, and I don't know, I, I'm kind of, you know, like a little
- 10:28too much in my head anyways, you know, I mean, but I really,
- 10:34yeah, just kind of, yeah, I wanted it to be mine.
- 10:37I don't know but. Yeah, that's that's fair and
- 10:41that's cool. No, that's that's cool.
- 10:44And and I'm curious because I don't think I would do it.
- 10:48I so I'm I'm admiring this like, no.
- 10:50Questions asked. I would be in that plane easily.
- 10:54Easily. It's like a roller coaster.
- 10:57What would you so, but but my thing is is like like if if
- 11:02you're up that high and you could say one thing or do one
- 11:05thing, you think you're just going to be open to the
- 11:06experience and quiet or you think you're going to be like,
- 11:09oh, like like I'm. Screaming the whole time, but I
- 11:12know that's the fun of it. That's the fun of it.
- 11:15I'm going to try to keep a straight, like a roller coaster.
- 11:18You always try to keep a straight face the whole time and
- 11:20you end up laughing way harder. I would probably do something
- 11:23like that. Honestly, that sounds like fun.
- 11:26I would do it, no question. That's like for you, like this
- 11:29is huge bucket list stuff, you know, chance of a lifetime.
- 11:33And especially, you know, for, for the category of humans that
- 11:38this is going to be provided for.
- 11:40It's just epic. So this this, this who who's
- 11:45rolling out the 4th of July with some, some some epic stuff.
- 11:48We Oh yeah. How was your drive in?
- 11:54Oh, it, it was really good. I mean, I, I was here at six.
- 11:57AMI was chilling in. The parking lot.
- 11:59Yeah, so ready. For it now I do want to point
- 12:04out ladies and gentlemen that some of our supporters, some of
- 12:08our sponsors that helped us with like the propane and the gas for
- 12:12this remote is American military family.
- 12:16So thank you Debbie. We also want to report that
- 12:19project sanctuary, they they stepped in.
- 12:23They're actually paying for you, Lucas.
- 12:25So we want to, we want to give them a, a huge clap for that
- 12:30also. And yeah, so I I can't read what
- 12:36the time says, but if it says 15 minutes, we're going to go on
- 12:39our first break. Holly.
- 12:40Do it. It is 8/20. 88280 Wow, we are
- 12:45way off, but that's OK. We'll, we'll play a couple of
- 12:49videos just to make sure everything is running smooth.
- 12:52Once again, we are live here, the first time ever in MBR
- 12:57history where we are live off grid here at Mile High Skydiving
- 13:03here in Longmont. You're listening to the Morning
- 13:06Woods show right here on the station.
- 13:07That's one of your veteran's voice to be heard, MBR.
- 15:29detail attention. First call the service members
- 15:36name is called out loud in the context of a unit.
- 15:40This is meant to ensure all are present and accounted for.
- 15:44Second call, the name is called out again, louder to confirm
- 15:48that the service member is indeed absent. 3rd call, the
- 15:52name is called out for a final time, followed by a statement
- 15:56indicating that the service member is not present and
- 15:58accounted for, signifying their death.
- 16:01The final roll call serves as a symbolic gesture to respect and
- 16:05remember their service. Sir, I don't.
- 16:14I don't know. How to tell the story?
- 16:17Well, you got the joke. I'm telling her people what
- 16:20these men did here. You tell them how much troopers
- 16:23died. Hey everyone, thank you for
- 16:53tuning in to MBR today as we pay tribute to U.S.
- 16:56Army Sergeant Frederick LS Freddie Simon, 95, of Wichita,
- 17:02KS. Freddie was born on February
- 17:0424th, 1925 in Colwich, Kansas to JV and Lizzie Simon.
- 17:10Freddie was the youngest of nine children, four brothers and four
- 17:14sisters. He grew up on a farm near
- 17:16Colwich. After Freddie graduated from
- 17:19Saint Mary's Cathedral High School in 1943, he joined the
- 17:22Army following three of his brothers into military service.
- 17:26Upon completion of basic training at Fort Riley, he was
- 17:30assigned to the First Cavalry and was transferred with his
- 17:32unit to the South Pacific. He served with honors as a
- 17:36Browning Automatic Rifleman in numerous campaigns throughout
- 17:39the region for 20 months and was awarded mini medals and ribbons
- 17:43for his heroic actions, including the Purple Heart and
- 17:47the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in
- 17:50October of 1945 at the rank of Sergeant a month after the
- 17:55surrender of the Japanese forces in the Philippines.
- 17:58Breddy returned to Wichita when the war ended and enrolled at
- 18:01Wichita University under the GI Bill and obtained his bachelor's
- 18:05degree in accounting in 3 1/2 years.
- 18:08He played varsity basketball for the Shockers in 1946 and married
- 18:12Norma Jean in 1947. On a hot summer day one year
- 18:18later, the first of their six children arrived.
- 18:22After graduating in the summer of 1949, Freddie took a job with
- 18:26a startup, Liquor and wine Wholesale distributorship.
- 18:29He worked with that company and its affiliates for 56 years,
- 18:33raising to the position of president.
- 18:37Freddie visited schools and civic organizations, telling his
- 18:40stories about his time in the service and speaking to the
- 18:43groups about the price of freedom.
- 18:46At last count, he had made over 100 appearances.
- 18:50In 2002, at the young age of 77 and still working full time in
- 18:54the beverage industry, Freddie agreed to lend his name and life
- 18:58story to a new startup that his sons Randy and Bill and its
- 19:03business partner Scott were forming, what is now known as
- 19:08Freddie's Frozen Custard and Steak Burgers.
- 19:12The Freddie's was growing fast and Freddie was involved to a
- 19:15larger extent, so he retired from the wine and liquor
- 19:19business in 2005 to travel to openings and become the full
- 19:23time spokesperson for his namesake company.
- 19:28At age 80, Freddie became a first, became first a local and
- 19:33soon a national celebrity. He made appearances at the new
- 19:37restaurant Openings around the country, signing autographs and
- 19:41cutting the ribbons at many of the openings, and traveling with
- 19:44his sons as the brands spread nationwide.
- 19:50Freddie will always be remembered for his engaging
- 19:52smile and his Freddie hugs. He was kind to everyone he met
- 19:57and always took the time to share stories.
- 20:00Freddie was an active member of the VFW and the Purple Heart
- 20:04Society. And he is survived by his 95
- 20:08year old foxhole wedding brother Martin Gonzalez, who is an
- 20:12active monk in the Trappist Abbey in Carleton, Oregon.
- 20:18They reunited after the war and returned together to the
- 20:21Philippines in 2004 for the 60th anniversary of the Battle of
- 20:25Lake Eagle. Freddie died on October 25th,
- 20:292020 surrounded by his family. Freddie is survived by his
- 20:34children Sue, Frederick, Randy and John as well as 14
- 20:38grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
- 20:41Preceding him in death where his parents JV and Lizzie, his
- 20:46siblings, his wife of 71 years Norma Jean and their sons
- 20:50William and Chris. We here at MBR would like to
- 20:53thank you, Freddie Simon for your service and dedication to
- 20:58our country. You leave a legacy of love and
- 21:01courage. Prayers are with your family,
- 21:05friends and those who served alongside you.
- 21:08You are truly missed. The station where our veterans
- 21:59voices are heard MBR talk hey thanks for tuning in are those
- 22:07of the speakers and do not necessarily.
- 22:11Reflect the views or positions of any entities.
- 22:13They. Represent find.
- 22:15This on the web at MB Radio dot Ladies and gentlemen, welcome.
- 25:13We are at Mile Highs, Mile High, skydiving here and be ours
- 25:20remote, off the grid. Remote.
- 25:22Literally. Remote we are.
- 25:24Skydivers are on their way. We have Lucas who is a veteran.
- 25:30We have Edgar Nevarez who is another veteran.
- 25:34We also have Sherry, she's also another veteran.
- 25:38And we have 3 firefighters you heard from earlier and we're
- 25:44getting ready to watch it. So now our stuff might get muted
- 25:52after a while just because of the simple fact that on the
- 25:56social media, we can't play, you know, the music that we want to.
- 26:01So we're going to play some of the music that we can't play
- 26:06until they come up skydiving. And then we're going to play
- 26:09some really rocky music. And you're going to be able to
- 26:12see these heroes fly through the air.
- 26:15Once again, for everybody that's joining in, you're listening to
- 26:20military broadcast radio where we use rehabilitation.
- 26:25We use broadcast in as a way to rebuild a so that veterans and
- 26:301st responders can tell their stories and their struggles.
- 26:34And we we're going to get ready and play.
- 26:37We're going to play a couple of videos and then right when we
- 26:40get done playing videos, we'll we'll head up now today at I
- 26:46believe. 12. O one died tired.
- 26:50They released a new album. We're going to get ready to play
- 26:54that because we can play that until the.
- 26:58Skydivers come out. And then you're going to be able
- 27:00to see them diving in. So this is going to be an
- 27:05extremely awesome remote. It's already on awesome remote.
- 27:09So. But without further ado, we're
- 27:12going to go ahead and play the first song until these guys come
- 27:15out. Right, we're back here at Mile
- 31:17High Sky Dive Club that was died tired.
- 31:26They got a new album coming out this morning, this afternoon,
- 31:31afternoon, so they should check them out.
- 31:36Next up we have Emily Myers as we wait for our veterans to be
- 31:40at first responders to get to the die point.
- 31:43We got new music tournament device who was just on the Into
- 31:48the Weeds podcast this Wednesday.
- 31:50If you want to go back and check out that show, host Bubble Open
- 31:53Standard, we're going to go ahead and play that.
- 31:56Our best fans, first responders are in the sky.
- 31:59They're almost ready for the freedom Jump.
- 32:02We'll have that live for you coming up on Military broadcast
- 32:05radio. All right back here in the
- 35:14middle of a field and Longmont, Co as Ramon as it gets you
- 35:21through MBR remote. We're keeping an eye out for
- 35:25events and 1st responders, our heroes getting ready for their
- 35:29jump. And while we wait for them,
- 35:32we're going to play a better song for you.
- 35:34Play YouTube. We play one more song for you
- 35:40and hopefully we'll be jumping. This one should get you fired up
- 35:42for these guys and heroes. That was Alexander, obviously.
