- 0:04Hey everybody. Welcome back to the space news
- 0:07pod. This is a show about SpaceX NASA
- 0:09and space flight. I'm your host will Walden and
- 0:12today's episode is going to be packed with Starship and
- 0:15Starbase stuff also a little bit of Apple stuff too, which is
- 0:19kind of weird thing, but it might be a future.
- 0:22Starlink Apple combination. Maybe let's see what's going on
- 0:26with that. But first and foremost, of
- 0:29course, Course, we have to start with the road closures.
- 0:33How many times have I said that? The road closure is for Starbase
- 0:36because that's when we know something is going to be
- 0:38happening at the Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas.
- 0:43So, let's take a look at these road closures real quick.
- 0:46Let's do some Starbase news right off the bat Tuesday.
- 0:50That's today. They move some GSE tanks around
- 0:53today. The small hobby style.
- 0:54GSE tank is out of there. Another GSE tanks coming in,
- 0:59they're moving stuff around. Today, which is really awesome.
- 1:01But they also have another primary date, September 1st 2021
- 1:07and I will make sure to keep you up to date with what's going to
- 1:11be happening with Starbase on Wednesday, September 1st.
- 1:16It's the first that means tomorrow after tomorrow.
- 1:19That's for four days. Four days until I take my trip
- 1:25to a book, a ticket to the Starbase facility and live
- 1:28there. I'm going to live At Starbase
- 1:30because that's kind of weird but I'll be living nearby and I'll
- 1:33be able to bring you coverage of Starbase every single day with
- 1:38this camera that lens. But also I have this big honkin
- 1:42lens 600. Mm.
- 1:44I'll be able to do some cool stuff with it.
- 1:45So yeah, thank you everybody who supported me through this whole
- 1:49journey if you want to continue supporting, there's a link up
- 1:52there inside where it is up there somewhere somewhere around
- 1:55here. It also the description for the
- 1:57GoFundMe and it helps every little Helps gas food lodging on
- 2:02the way down that stuff like super helpful and also gas to
- 2:07get to, and from Starbase, like, it gets expensive over over
- 2:10time. So, thank you, everybody, for
- 2:13all of your support for, you know, the Starbase trip.
- 2:17Now, I should say move, not trip, it's a move.
- 2:21Now, I'm always on Twitter, right?
- 2:24And I came across this really cool tweet from the guy that
- 2:28found it, Twitter. Which it's like, you don't think
- 2:33about this. Like, how many important people
- 2:35have been to Starbase? Right?
- 2:38How many important people have probably been like got around
- 2:41there like, hey, this is kind of cool, you know, and this they
- 2:44never post anything about it. Or they're just like on vacation
- 2:47nearby and like, hey, I want to go see that SpaceX thing that's
- 2:51going on and they stop by and you know, they go down highway
- 2:54four of the like, whoa, this is cool.
- 2:56But how many of them get a first-hand experience?
- 3:00At the, the show is brought to you by backblaze.
- 3:03I use back place to back up my podcast.

- 5:04Plays.com / heel on backblaze.com Ilan,
- 5:09backblaze.com, Ilan, facility itself.
- 5:15So Jack, the guy that founded Twitter, Went to Starbase
- 5:21grateful for Elon Musk and at SpaceX heart emoji.
- 5:26Look at this Starship. Look.
- 5:28So this is the thing that I noticed about this like he was
- 5:30right under the Starship to it, which is really insane.
- 5:34Look at this. You can still see a few.
- 5:37This is just posted like a day ago.
- 5:44But look at you can still see the markings at the top of the
- 5:47Starship with the heat tiles. Very cool.
- 5:50But look at how complete the tiles are now compared to just a
- 5:55few days ago. Like this is full on almost
- 6:00ready to fly. That is crazy.
- 6:07That's crazy. So Jack on Twitter said that and
- 6:11then he Lon, this is another cool thing.
- 6:14Speaking of famous people that was not the right to eat.
- 6:18So he poses something else. You know that said, thanks for
- 6:20coming and speaking of famous people, you know, it's pretty
- 6:23famous. That's what I was going to say,
- 6:24but I don't have the one ready. So you might there's a little
- 6:29emote down there, they don't want to show you.
- 6:31So anyway Ilan said, thanks for coming and yeah, that's pretty.
- 6:37Cool. That Jack what Starbase like how
- 6:41interesting is that? That super famous people.
- 6:43Interesting people get to go hang out.
- 6:46Now another interesting thing, A very, very interesting thing,
- 6:50the quick disconnect arms for Starship launch.
- 6:57Peter butter, Philip button. Sorry, I was gonna say Peter.
- 6:59What I say, Peter Phillip out button, fill up on Twitter
- 7:03lifting the quick disconnect arm this morning, August 29th, a
- 7:08couple days ago. We'll look at this lift.
- 7:11Look at all these amazing photos from Phillip doing great work.
- 7:18So all these lifting this quick disconnect arm this morning.
- 7:21Sweet. But look at how massive these
- 7:24things are. That is insane.
- 7:29Like, what cool photos do? Like, that's a, that's a really
- 7:33great shot. Thanks, Phillip, you're doing
- 7:34now. That's amazing.
- 7:36This is where they're going. Hydraulic ram was installed the
- 7:39other day / night. They have been working on the
- 7:42hinges for ages. Now, these are from a while
- 7:44back. So ocean cam is down there
- 7:48almost every day. Almost every proud pretty much
- 7:51every day on the side of the road, getting shots of Starbase
- 7:55and Starship, but I'm going to show you what Paul has done
- 7:59quick disconnect on the tower. Paul has done a few images of
- 8:04the quick disconnect like that doesn't look real because it's
- 8:08so gigantic. And there's a, there's a person
- 8:12over here person for scale. I'm going to zoom in on this one
- 8:15for you because there's a guy right over there.
- 8:19There's a person And then the mass of just the quick
- 8:23disconnect arms, zoom out a little bit.
- 8:27That is a giant piece of machinery and that's installed.
- 8:33On the tower now. Absolutely insane.
- 8:39We're expecting the FAA to clear the tower, we're not expecting
- 8:44them to say you know. Like it's not cool that you have
- 8:46this Tower here because there's out there's been kind of a
- 8:50little murmuring little Rumblings that SpaceX may have
- 8:53to disassemble the tower before the launch if the FAA doesn't
- 8:59approve it but there's no long-distance communication,
- 9:02there's no big antennas, you know, anything like that.
- 9:05That could contribute to that. Right now.
- 9:07So the risk, there are communication capabilities on
- 9:13the tower, of course, but it's not powerful.
- 9:16So we're thinking the FAA is going to be cool with it and the
- 9:22tower will pass so environmental study still have to do that, of
- 9:26course. So we're just waiting for that
- 9:30to happen in the near future. So Paul at Ocean cam Obe
- 9:35traveler on. On Twitter and Paul's YouTube,
- 9:39I'll link it down in the description below.
- 9:41I'll link all these Twitter's and stuff in the description
- 9:42below because they're all amazing, amazing people.
- 9:46Now, just one more thing the flaps.
- 9:50So remember the tiles that were talking about a little bit
- 9:53earlier with Jack. Now, the flaps Philip button, of
- 9:57course, again, check this out. These flaps morning flap tiles,
- 10:01not sure why. DM uploading is stalled Twitter
- 10:04sense. Things out of order sometimes.
- 10:06X. Look at the beautiful work
- 10:08though. Like okay, look at how they
- 10:11wrap. Around that that doesn't like,
- 10:16that looks amazing. And as you can see, some of
- 10:18these still have the markings on them.
- 10:22But look at the amazing shot that he got.
- 10:25And look at the detail of the craftsmanship of these tiles.
- 10:34Like this is just a Prototype 2. So the detail coming around from
- 10:39like like where it attaches at the top here, those kind of
- 10:43rectangular tiles, and then they Cascade out into the hextech,
- 10:49hex tiles. Absolutely beautiful.
- 10:52And as you can see, there's some that are kind of like, not quite
- 10:55there yet. And there are some that are kind
- 10:57of off kilter But what a great shot.
- 11:00Like what an amazing shot. So Phillip you're doing great
- 11:05stuff. Really great shot there and I
- 11:09got one more thing. Okay, this is from Apple Hub and
- 11:15this kind of what I've been hoping for, for a while.
- 11:19Starlink SpaceX is satellite internet company.
- 11:26I would love to use it with my phone.
- 11:27Like I would love to sign up for Starling can be able to use it?
- 11:31Instead of my mobile provider at any given time and this is a
- 11:34tweet from Apple Hub, check this out, this is a sort of a tech
- 11:39thing. According to analysts the
- 11:42upcoming phone iPhone 13 series will feature low earth, orbit,
- 11:46Satellite, Communication connectivity, which will allow
- 11:49users to make calls and send messages when cell signal is not
- 11:53available. So, take this with a grain of
- 11:56salt. We don't know exactly what this
- 11:59is for, we don't know exactly if this is for starlink or if it's
- 12:05for another Aurelio said light constellation where apples
- 12:10working with another company, we're not sure yet.
- 12:12So you know take all this with a grain of salt but it possibly
- 12:18could happen in the future. Let's see if there's any more
- 12:21information here. The new iPhone will utilize a
- 12:23custom version of the Qualcomm x60.
- 12:25Baseband modem chip. Support for communications over
- 12:29satellite. So instead of your iPhone just
- 12:35connecting to AT&T Verizon Etc, possibly, it could link up with
- 12:41starlink how cool is that if you're out in the middle of
- 12:44nowhere, throughout the middle of the desert someplace, and you
- 12:46like, you know, like whatever one of those old movies from the
- 12:50from the early Hollywood days where somebody's stranded out in
- 12:52the desert and they're like, I'm not going to make it like in
- 12:55there, like, so hopefully somebody can come save me.
- 12:58But now you can just be like, oh yeah, Oh hey, hey Mom.
- 13:02Oh yeah, I'm out the desert. I need some help.
- 13:05Can you please? Oh wait, hold on, let me text
- 13:07you, you're busy. I know.
- 13:11So possibly in the future star link in apple working together
- 13:15SpaceX and apple working together to provide a Leo
- 13:18Satellite Communication connectivity from your phone to
- 13:22start link. We'll see what happens.
- 13:24I don't think this is powerful enough to do it quite yet so
- 13:27maybe a future iteration could be a thing.
- 13:30NG so let me know in the comments what you think about
- 13:34Elon and apple working together, that's about it for today.
- 13:38Everybody thanks so much. Bye bye.
