- 0:22along with all her chickens. Hey
- 0:28everybody, good morning from the very noisy Chicken Coop
- 0:32this morning. Apparently we're having a big argument
- 0:34in there over space of where to lay an egg,
- 0:37because you know they get fixated on what they want
- 0:40just like human beings and they don't let it go and
- 0:43then they do that until you get out of their way.
- 0:45Very funny behavior. But
- 0:48anyway, today we are talking about watching your
- 0:51luggage. And what do I mean by watching
- 0:53your luggage? Okay, we all know when we go on
- 0:57a trip we have to remember that we've got to go up
- 1:01against that scale at the airport. We've
- 1:03got to get there, we've got to put our stuff into
- 1:06the luggage and make sure it does not weigh more
- 1:08than the allotted amount or we have to pay exorbitant
- 1:11fees to put our luggage on there. And
- 1:14we'll also say you've got to remember what you're
- 1:16taking with, you take what you need most and you go
- 1:19through and you pack and sometimes you repack if
- 1:21you're like me, you pack, you see what you have, you
- 1:23repack, you pack, you repack. You
- 1:25want to make sure that you have exactly what you need.
- 1:27You're not taking anything extra
- 1:29with you. You've got everything that you're
- 1:31going to absolutely need in case you can't get it when
- 1:35you get there. And then you've got to make
- 1:37sure you're not taking too much with you because of
- 1:39the weight. So what is this metaphor that
- 1:43I'm using for you? Well, think about this when it
- 1:46comes to thoughts and your past. Boy,
- 1:49if we did this process with everything that we
- 1:51carry around with us all the time, how would that
- 1:54shift us? How would that make us be
- 1:56different people? Because if we had to sit and say,
- 1:59well, is this something I'm really going to need to
- 2:01take with me? Is this something that I
- 2:03should keep referencing again? And
- 2:05is this something that I should keep going back to?
- 2:08Or am I really going to need
- 2:09this moving forward in my world? Or
- 2:12is this just something that was a ridiculous thought
- 2:14and I had it at one point in time and I don't need
- 2:16it anymore? And you started using the
- 2:19watcher luggage metaphor for everything that you carry
- 2:22around with you all day, every day, like our list
- 2:25of anxieties or frustrations or offenses to things that
- 2:30have happened in our past. Wow,
- 2:33that could change everything. And
- 2:35I love, love, love using this with people because I
- 2:39think that it helps simplify the process and
- 2:43everything about what I do with my clients is always
- 2:47about simplifying the process. How
- 2:49can I make this as simple as possible so that they
- 2:51can get it and use it quickly? And
- 2:53for me, if you start to think about that luggage,
- 2:58it is such a quick way to shift and change, such a
- 3:02quick way to shift and change because you'll say,
- 3:04well, is this something I want to pack and take with
- 3:06me? Do I want to take this with
- 3:08me? And then you can always
- 3:09reference it back again and say, well, didn't I make
- 3:11the decision not to take this with me? Great.
- 3:13Why am I talking about it? Why
- 3:15is this here? Why am I bringing it up?
- 3:16Because it's not something that I
- 3:18chose to pack and take with me. So
- 3:20point being, there is nothing more important than
- 3:24these choices that you make on a daily basis, nothing.
- 3:27And if you start recognizing
- 3:30how much you reference back to the luggage, how much
- 3:34you reference back to the stuff that you don't want,
- 3:37how much you reference back to it, even though you
- 3:39don't want it, you will be astonished at how much it
- 3:44affects you. And just like double checking,
- 3:47triple checking and going through the luggage
- 3:49repeatedly when we're getting ready to go on a
- 3:51trip, it matters. I remember when I had the
- 3:55absolute luck, love and pleasure of going to
- 3:59backpack in Thailand. Many years ago, my husband and
- 4:03I got married there. And he had backpacked before
- 4:07and I had never backpacked. I
- 4:08traveled with like big luggage as much as I
- 4:12could. I took everything I could
- 4:14with me. And he is somebody who's a
- 4:17minimalist. Do you really need that? When
- 4:20we can do laundry, do you really think that this is
- 4:22necessary? And when he told me we were
- 4:25going to be doing this in backpacks because it's easy
- 4:29to get on and off flights, it's easy to get
- 4:31everywhere, I was like, oh no, my certainty girl
- 4:36kicked in and panic happened. And
- 4:37I was like, there is no way, especially when I
- 4:40realized we were doing this for three weeks, especially
- 4:43when I realized that, oh my gosh, I'm going to
- 4:45actually do this. And I don't have the certainty
- 4:50of knowing where I will be, if there will be
- 4:52laundry, if I will have facilities. I
- 4:55mean, obviously there are laundries over there. Why
- 4:58am I thinking I'm not going to be able to find
- 5:00something? Because that's how our brains work
- 5:02and we freak out about stuff. So
- 5:05it took an absolute monumental effort in my
- 5:09mind to be able to stop that process from going on
- 5:12in my head and say, yes, I can pack in a backpack.
- 5:15But I can't begin to tell you
- 5:17how many times I had to repack that backpack. I
- 5:20had to look at it, I had to scrutinize it, I had to
- 5:24go and honestly, like, I mean, if I'm telling the
- 5:28gods the truth, I cried, I stood there and said I
- 5:31can't do it with this number of things, I need
- 5:34to have more. I'm going to need two
- 5:36backpacks. He's like, you can't have two
- 5:38backpacks. It's not called backpacking to
- 5:40carry multiple backpacks. It's
- 5:42one backpack. And plus I had a camera back.
- 5:45So I had no choice. I
- 5:46had to figure it out. And the more I did it, the
- 5:51better it got. The more I looked at it, I
- 5:55had it all spread out on the floor. The
- 5:57more I examined it, the more I said, do I really
- 5:59need you? Is this something that I'm
- 6:01really going to need? And when I kept going back and
- 6:04reexamining, reexamining, reexamining, I was able to
- 6:08do it. And you know what? Not
- 6:10only did I survive the trip, and I say it like
- 6:14that because it was one of the most glorious trips of
- 6:16my life, not only did I survive it, I thrived. I
- 6:20loved everything about it. And
- 6:22I didn't have a quarter of what I would have taken if
- 6:26I was left to my own accord. So
- 6:28point being, when you do this with your emotions,
- 6:32when you do this with the past and all the things
- 6:35that have happened in the past, and you say, I'm not
- 6:38taking you with me. I'm done. I'm
- 6:39putting that aside. Glorious things happen. So
- 6:43I'm going to challenge you to do that. Watch
- 6:44your luggage. Start thinking about it. And
- 6:47don't think about it once. Really
- 6:48think about it. Really, really think about it. Pour
- 6:51into it. Because I promise you, you will
- 6:54see grand results when you do this. Just
- 6:56nope, I'm not taking this. Nope,
- 6:58I don't need this. And just put it aside. And
- 7:01when it shows up, get rid of it because it's not
- 7:03necessary. I hope you guys have an
- 7:06amazingly blessed day. And I will see you tomorrow.
