- 1:25Speaker 3: hung out, ate food.
- 1:26Speaker 2: It was lovely. Did so Neil? I know he does
- 1:30Speaker 2: his like burger weak thing. Did he show you any
- 1:33Speaker 2: good burgers?
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yes, we had I don't know what was it called
- 1:38Speaker 3: Tulip Tulip Shop or something like that, a really good
- 1:43Speaker 3: smash burger that we had from there that was delicious.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We also went to a chicken joint.
- 1:48Speaker 4: I should have written all these down, but I didn't.
- 1:51Speaker 4: We went to a chicken joint that was really good,
- 1:53Speaker 4: like a spicy chicken sandwich.
- 1:56Speaker 2: That was really nice.
- 1:58Speaker 3: That We had lots of blue star, which I'm sure
- 2:01Speaker 3: you've had, right.
- 2:05Speaker 2: We have.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I had a lemon poppy seed old fashioned donut.
- 2:09Speaker 2: You did, Yes, you did, sweet hell? It was good.
- 2:16Speaker 3: It was delicious, man. Yeah, we had a great time
- 2:18Speaker 3: and I bought We went to Powells and I bought
- 2:22Speaker 3: a sweet set of books. Actually Chance bottom two. We
- 2:25Speaker 3: found all of the so it's the Hobbit and then
- 2:28Speaker 3: the three Lord of the Rings books. And they're bound
- 2:32Speaker 3: in like leather, and they're small. They almost look like
- 2:35Speaker 3: a little bibles.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Many leather bound books.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, so my apartment smells of rich mahogany right now.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yes see, I'm for it.
- 2:44Speaker 3: But yeah, they're so cute and small and great.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I love them. A little tangent have you seen the
- 2:51Speaker 2: meme where it shows uh, Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis,
- 2:57Speaker 2: who were in Black Panther together. Yeah, there's a meme
- 3:02Speaker 2: that has those two from Black Panther talking to each
- 3:06Speaker 2: other and it says they got the two token white guys. Nice.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I have not, but I.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Love that a lot.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I liked it a lot.
- 3:19Speaker 3: That's really great. Can I take you on another tangent? Yes,
- 3:23Speaker 3: I was in Grand Forks hanging out with my parents.
- 3:26Speaker 3: We were having some fun hospital time, as we do
- 3:28Speaker 3: as people get. There's a restaurant there called the Shire,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and it was so funny because we were looking for
- 3:36Speaker 3: places to go, me and my brother, and you know,
- 3:39Speaker 3: when you eat out for like, you know, because you're
- 3:41Speaker 3: on the road, when you eat out several days in
- 3:44Speaker 3: a row, you're just like, nothing sounds great. I just
- 3:46Speaker 3: want like a normal meal or whatever. But he was like,
- 3:50Speaker 3: what about this place. It's called the Shire. I don't know,
- 3:52Speaker 3: it looks kind of interesting. And I was like, I'm
- 3:54Speaker 3: in and he was like, you don't want to even
- 3:57Speaker 3: look at the menu and I was like, no, because
- 4:00Speaker 3: it's named the Shire, so it's got to be about
- 4:02Speaker 3: Lord of the Rings. And he was like, oh it
- 4:03Speaker 3: does say it's movie themes, and it's like, you're damn
- 4:06Speaker 3: right at dust. Yeah, And we went there and it
- 4:08Speaker 3: was awesome and the food was really good, so cool
- 4:11Speaker 3: if you're ever in. I think it's actually technically an
- 4:13Speaker 3: East Grand Forks. They had all I'll send you some pictures.
- 4:18Speaker 3: I even took a selfie rob because you did once
- 4:21Speaker 3: every day.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I have to put that on the Patreon machine. Yeah,
- 4:23Speaker 2: for sure.
- 4:24Speaker 4: But they had all kinds of cool posters and paintings
- 4:28Speaker 4: and it was really neat.
- 4:29Speaker 3: It must have been owned. It was next to a
- 4:31Speaker 3: theater and they must have owned both. Oh sure, which
- 4:34Speaker 3: is a great idea. But yeah, really cute stuff. East
- 4:37Speaker 3: Grand Forks, the Shire.
- 4:38Speaker 2: The Shire getting a plug. Yeah, but I don't know what.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Have you seen any movies lately?
- 4:45Speaker 2: I have? I have, so I didn't know how you are, though.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I've been busy too. We did some stuff out on
- 4:52Speaker 2: the East Coast. We had a gig out there. We
- 4:54Speaker 2: shot a music video. Hell yeah, dude. It was a
- 4:58Speaker 2: really great corporate gig, which you know how those are.
- 5:01Speaker 2: They're pretty hit or miss, and it really is. But
- 5:04Speaker 2: it was a good one. It was a good one.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Came back immediately, then drove to South Dakota for my
- 5:12Speaker 2: nephew's graduation graduation. It was long and at least it
- 5:18Speaker 2: was extremely windy the entire drive, so I was like
- 5:21Speaker 2: crazy it the whole time. Absolutely, so it was a
- 5:26Speaker 2: little exhausting. But then we came all the way back
- 5:30Speaker 2: home and through Charlie a birthday party because you just
- 5:33Speaker 2: turned seven years old, and yeah, man, it just felt
- 5:38Speaker 2: like it's been non stop, yeah for the last week. Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 2: So it was nice to be able to sit down
- 5:45Speaker 2: and watch a very long movie. There is that. But
- 5:52Speaker 2: I have seen a movie recently, and I know you
- 5:56Speaker 2: had said that Sinners is your favorite film of the
- 5:58Speaker 2: year so far, but I think I've found my favorite
- 6:01Speaker 2: film of the year tell me everything, and it's way
- 6:05Speaker 2: different than Sinners. It is a little independent film called
- 6:11Speaker 2: The Ballad of Wallace Island. Oh I don't even know
- 6:14Speaker 2: what that is, The Ballad The Ballad of Wallace Island.
- 6:17Speaker 2: The biggest name by far is Carrie Mulligan, but she
- 6:21Speaker 2: does not have a big role. The two main actors
- 6:25Speaker 2: are Tom Basden and Tim Key, and they also happen
- 6:29Speaker 2: to write the movie. Fine, and it's basically a guy
- 6:34Speaker 2: who's got more money than he knows what to do with,
- 6:37Speaker 2: pays for his favorite musicians.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I saw a preview for this somewhere along the way.
- 6:44Speaker 3: It looked really cute.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It was good. Huh is wonderful? Oh that's great. The
- 6:49Speaker 2: rich guy is hilarious. He's super upbeat, silly. It's it's
- 6:56Speaker 2: really funny. It touches the heartstrings. I loved it. That's great.
- 7:02Speaker 2: I can't wait to see this. It was a quick watch.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It can be rented now. I'm sure it'll be streaming
- 7:07Speaker 2: soon enough. Sick, but oh man, I just adored it,
- 7:12Speaker 2: I really and I want to watch the other stuff
- 7:15Speaker 2: that these guys have done. It seems like that tim
- 7:17Speaker 2: Key has done a few things, okay, mostly like British stuff.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I believe. Fun but man, loved it, and you know
- 7:28Speaker 2: you will all see how they run? He did. I
- 7:31Speaker 2: think I watched that. Yeah, yeah, yeah with Terry Sharon.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, oh fun. Well, I can't wait to see that.
- 7:39Speaker 2: You're gonna love it. That sounds right up my alley. Yes,
- 7:42Speaker 2: have you watched any movies?
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:45Speaker 2: I watched a fun one. I can't remember.
- 7:49Speaker 3: I think it was just a rental. I watched it
- 7:51Speaker 3: with our buddy Dave. Uh, we watched the movie Drop.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Have you ever heard of this movie? And I watched it?
- 7:59Speaker 2: Oh you did? You watched? I know it exactly fun.
- 8:02Speaker 2: It was super fun. I really liked it a lot.
- 8:05Speaker 3: So this is a movie about a young lady who
- 8:08Speaker 3: has like kind of a storied pass that comes up,
- 8:11Speaker 3: you know, throughout the movie you learn about it. But
- 8:14Speaker 3: she's going on like her first date, her first first
- 8:17Speaker 3: date in years, and some crazy stuff happens with the
- 8:23Speaker 3: cell phone technology, and it's like it turns into a
- 8:26Speaker 3: sort of like a mystery thriller kind of thing where
- 8:30Speaker 3: she has to like she's getting convinced to do you know,
- 8:33Speaker 3: like things to her date and stuff like that and
- 8:37Speaker 3: get roped into craziness and it's all pretty fun.
- 8:41Speaker 2: But I really liked it.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I thought it was a really effective use of like
- 8:45Speaker 3: the cell phone and then they would put like the
- 8:48Speaker 3: texts and things across the screen so we could see
- 8:51Speaker 3: them as well, you know, while she was reading them.
- 8:53Speaker 3: I really thought that was all cool. It was stylistically
- 8:56Speaker 3: like really interestingly shot. I felt like in a number
- 8:59Speaker 3: of ways they incorporated like uh, CCTV camera shots and
- 9:05Speaker 3: stuff like that, you know, really well and stuff.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I thought.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I thought it was really fun. Honestly, it was a
- 9:11Speaker 3: it was a pretty interesting time. It was kind of
- 9:13Speaker 3: dumb in points, but like a fun dumb you know,
- 9:17Speaker 3: like a like you and me dumb, you know, just
- 9:20Speaker 3: fun dumb, good time.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Point and but just so much better than I was like,
- 9:25Speaker 2: it's better than.
- 9:26Speaker 5: It should be.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Agreed, it looks like it's just gonna be dumb and
- 9:30Speaker 3: like ignorable, but it's like, oh no.
- 9:32Speaker 2: That was good.
- 9:32Speaker 3: That was fun.
- 9:33Speaker 2: That was cool.
- 9:34Speaker 3: That was interesting that Megan Fahi is that her name.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Yeah, she was in the second Lotus the second season.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, second season of that. That was kind of the
- 9:44Speaker 3: only thing I knew her from anyway. Same, I thought
- 9:47Speaker 3: she was great in this show. I thought she was
- 9:48Speaker 3: super believable. She you know, had to be a lot
- 9:52Speaker 3: of emotional states, you know, or be in a lot
- 9:54Speaker 3: of emotional states. I didn't recognize the dude or really
- 9:58Speaker 3: very many other people at all.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I didn't know anybody else, but everyone was pretty good.
- 10:03Speaker 3: It was compelling. I really enjoyed it.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I thought it was fun. So same, check it out
- 10:08Speaker 2: if you can. Again.
- 10:09Speaker 3: That is called Drop Drop and it's a I don't
- 10:14Speaker 3: know don't you think more thriller than like horror movie.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't go full on horror. It's more thriller,
- 10:20Speaker 2: but I mean it's horror aspects, but sure, I would
- 10:23Speaker 2: say thriller. This is the kind of horror movie we like. More.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Yeah, like definitely more into that thriller. But I really
- 10:30Speaker 3: enjoyed it, so check it out. How about streaming? Have
- 10:32Speaker 3: you been streaming anything?
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yes? And I know you had talked about on a
- 10:36Speaker 2: previous episode, but I finished Daredevil Born Again and it's awesome.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I have the same takes as you. Isn't it fun?
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's so fun, so happy it's back. I can't believe
- 10:49Speaker 2: that they've been able to pick up right where they
- 10:51Speaker 2: left off so many years ago, and like none of
- 10:53Speaker 2: these people have aged, which is incredible upsetting. It's really
- 10:59Speaker 2: something utt it's crazy. But yeah, Vincent Inafrio is perfect,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Charlie Cox is awesome. It's an amazing show. The fighting
- 11:08Speaker 2: is just that Cooreo is all nuts.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:14Speaker 2: I had so much fun with it.
- 11:15Speaker 3: And I think they've greenlit season two already, so I
- 11:18Speaker 3: would ready, I would think so. In fact, I think
- 11:21Speaker 3: I just heard someone was confirmed to be back.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But I won't tell you who ooh old geez, I
- 11:29Speaker 2: know I am, but yeah, that's on the Disney Plus machine.
- 11:35Speaker 2: It's a good time.
- 11:36Speaker 4: It's really fun, really fun, although graphic, so graphic, especially
- 11:42Speaker 4: when well, yeah it gets graphic.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yes, it's pretty wild. Have you been streaming anything fun?
- 11:50Speaker 2: I have?
- 11:51Speaker 3: I watched Oh, I should have written down where. I'm
- 11:53Speaker 3: pretty sure it was on Max, which I don't know
- 11:56Speaker 3: if you heard is going back to HBO Max.
- 11:59Speaker 2: I did hear that?
- 12:00Speaker 3: I just do that finally started saying the right thing yesterday.
- 12:04Speaker 3: So this fun anyway, Sorry, tangent. I watched Brett Goldstein's
- 12:11Speaker 3: special Second Best Night of Your Life?
- 12:13Speaker 2: You did? Yeah?
- 12:14Speaker 3: It was apparently his first stand up special that he's
- 12:17Speaker 3: ever recorded.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I would assume I didn't know he was a
- 12:21Speaker 2: stand up. I believe he's done stand up for a
- 12:23Speaker 2: few years, but it was unclear to me. It was
- 12:26Speaker 2: really fun.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I think he's just a really enjoyable guy. He's very charismatic,
- 12:31Speaker 3: but also like super chill. I don't know, he just
- 12:34Speaker 3: seems like a very nice man. Yeah, and he had
- 12:38Speaker 3: some some pretty good stand up, especially for his first
- 12:40Speaker 3: you know, full you know session that he recorded. I
- 12:44Speaker 3: thought it was really good. He had me giggling along
- 12:47Speaker 3: and I had a great time.
- 12:48Speaker 2: I really like him fun.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely worth checking.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Out for sure.
- 12:53Speaker 3: That guy's killing it man, and nothing like it's not
- 12:56Speaker 3: like clean or anything, but it's also nothing. There's not
- 13:00Speaker 3: really like anythin.
- 13:01Speaker 2: In it or fi you know.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just like kind of regular stuff, you know,
- 13:05Speaker 3: like just being a nice guy. So I don't know,
- 13:08Speaker 3: it was really fun.
- 13:09Speaker 2: I liked it cool. Check it out. Check it out.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Uh, you already did yours, So now we're doing plugs.
- 13:16Speaker 2: That is what we are doing. Nice.

- 13:40Speaker 2: slash the Avid Indoorsman. Yeah, we love our patrons. We
- 13:45Speaker 2: give them so many perks. One of those is getting

- 13:55Speaker 2: to Debulk, Jackie Houston and Noel Flores. You guys are wonderfulderful.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Another perk that we like to give our patroons is
- 14:08Speaker 2: an extended version of every single episode that we put out.
- 14:12Speaker 2: More often than not, we'll do a top five draft
- 14:15Speaker 2: that pertains to the movie we're talking about, and for
- 14:17Speaker 2: this one we decided to go. But I was shocked
- 14:21Speaker 2: that we hadn't done this surprising, surprising top five movies
- 14:25Speaker 2: based on a historical figure, so surprising. Maybe we happen.
- 14:31Speaker 2: We just don't know, but maybe it just wasn't worded
- 14:34Speaker 2: that way or something. But that's what we're doing.
- 14:37Speaker 3: It doesn't matter. We're gonna do it. There's a lot
- 14:39Speaker 3: of them. It turns out there's a lot of them,
- 14:42Speaker 3: so certainly I forgot some, so that'll be fun. Yeah,
- 14:47Speaker 3: look forward to that, Greg coming attractions. Don't worry about it.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Life is pleased.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Don't when you open yourself up to the universe.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Just don't worry.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And also sometimes I forget, uh so check that out.
- 15:02Speaker 3: We're here today, though, to talk about a great film,
- 15:05Speaker 3: celebrating it's thirtieth anniversary. This is a little film called
- 15:09Speaker 3: Brave Heart. Yes, man, it is gonna be something else,
- 15:15Speaker 3: and we had to find the bravest heart we could
- 15:17Speaker 3: ever find.
- 15:19Speaker 2: He's been Rob's pal.
- 15:20Speaker 3: You guys probably watched the double VHS together a number
- 15:23Speaker 3: of times.
- 15:24Speaker 2: You know, I don't know if we've watched it together,
- 15:26Speaker 2: now that you say that, I know we both have
- 15:28Speaker 2: seen it a lot, but of course it definitely comes up.
- 15:31Speaker 2: My brain is mushy, though we probably have seen it
- 15:33Speaker 2: together a bunch. I don't know.
- 15:35Speaker 3: It's fine. I didn't need to put you in that spot.
- 15:37Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 15:38Speaker 3: But this is our old pal. He's here to talk
- 15:40Speaker 3: with us. Let's give it up for Benny.
- 15:43Speaker 2: What's up, Bennie? What's up?
- 15:46Speaker 5: My brother?
- 15:49Speaker 2: Baby? How are you you? Guys? It's just been so long.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I feel like he's been a minute. Now. Where have
- 15:55Speaker 2: you been? What's the last WHOA would probably tremor is? Yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and that was I think that might have been the
- 16:02Speaker 2: first episode of the year. It's it's it's may you
- 16:05Speaker 2: got to start strong episode. Yeah we did start strong.
- 16:09Speaker 2: Yeah we did a movie. But yeah, I knew I
- 16:13Speaker 2: wanted you on for this movie.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Oh yeah, my god.
- 16:16Speaker 2: And so I'm glad. I'm glad we were able to
- 16:18Speaker 2: make this work. I know you are. You're not at
- 16:21Speaker 2: your place.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Yes, I apologies to your your audience. I'm on the
- 16:27Speaker 4: road traveling to Dallas. I've been driving from New York
- 16:31Speaker 4: and uh, and I forgot the cord to my microphone,
- 16:35Speaker 4: so I'm just recording on on my Mac MacBook microphone built.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It sounds good on the zoom. Man sounding good?
- 16:44Speaker 4: Well, sure, sure sounds good on the zoom. Everyone not
- 16:48Speaker 4: maybe what you're listening to. But I just I just
- 16:51Speaker 4: feel bad because I know that generally when I'm on
- 16:53Speaker 4: the program, viewership probably.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Jump sikes, big dozens of people. I get it. I
- 17:03Speaker 2: get it.
- 17:03Speaker 4: That's like fourteen extra moms tune in the dude from
- 17:10Speaker 4: n c I s California. Oh my god, Blue Plots
- 17:21Speaker 4: only shows that women of a certain age.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you two really have that that market corner from
- 17:29Speaker 3: both sides, don't sure?
- 17:31Speaker 2: That's sure?
- 17:33Speaker 5: Network Network.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Silly cop shows and Acapella Acapella acapella woo.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I used to say that on the cruise ship all
- 17:45Speaker 2: the time. I'd be like, your grandma loves us. I
- 17:47Speaker 2: promise it, she's into it. Oh it's fun. Man, So
- 17:53Speaker 2: you're going down to Dallas? What else is new?
- 17:55Speaker 3: I mean usually you're booking something when you.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Know you have my good luck charms technically, I guess
- 18:02Speaker 2: you are.
- 18:02Speaker 4: This time, I'm doing U I did it years for years,
- 18:06Speaker 4: but they're trying again to do a Bull Durham the musical.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I remember you did that.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'm I'm scheduled to do that in the
- 18:16Speaker 4: fall at paper Mill Playhouse in in New Jersey.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Cool kids.
- 18:22Speaker 2: So I don't really do a lot in the show,
- 18:24Speaker 2: to be honest.
- 18:25Speaker 4: But I kind of that's all right, one fun little scene.
- 18:28Speaker 4: But you know, it's a pretty good show.
- 18:32Speaker 2: I will say school.
- 18:34Speaker 3: There has been a talk of a New York trip
- 18:37Speaker 3: in the fall, so we might have to get those
- 18:40Speaker 3: dates from you.
- 18:41Speaker 2: And then and then have you guys ever done Bull
- 18:44Speaker 2: Durham on this?
- 18:46Speaker 4: We never have, No, I haven't that field of dreams.
- 18:50Speaker 4: You might have to come and we'll see the show
- 18:52Speaker 4: and then we'll do the Bull Durham pod.
- 18:54Speaker 2: That'd be super fun, man, would be super fun. I
- 18:57Speaker 2: feel like you have the musical in a minute, huh
- 19:00Speaker 2: since for a while.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Yeah, it's been a hot minute. Maybe we'll get there.
- 19:05Speaker 4: We'll get We'll get Ron Shelton to come on. That
- 19:08Speaker 4: would be cool, the writer director of Bullet Movie.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah, but he did.
- 19:13Speaker 4: He wrote the script for the I was just hanging
- 19:16Speaker 4: out with him the other night because we did a
- 19:17Speaker 4: little They did like a reading.
- 19:20Speaker 5: Of it, so I popped in to do that. But yeah,
- 19:24Speaker 5: he's just that guy's a legend.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 19:30Speaker 4: So I guess technically that. Otherwise, still working on a
- 19:36Speaker 4: video game that can't be named, but I love it.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Other than that, just been auditioning a lot, a lot
- 19:43Speaker 4: of a lot of hard maybees.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that, you know, career in my dating life,
- 19:51Speaker 2: my friends love that.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Rock hard maybe.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Oh boy, we are.
- 20:08Speaker 3: We are well. I feel like we might said earlier,
- 20:12Speaker 3: we might go for a while.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And this one.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Plane is literally to make this longer than the run
- 20:18Speaker 4: time of the film. So, oh God, for all the tangents.
- 20:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna get bathroom breaks.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Well, we're here to talk about the thirtieth anniversary of
- 20:31Speaker 3: Brave Heart and Rob You gotta started with just a
- 20:35Speaker 3: rough sun ups.
- 20:37Speaker 2: William Wallace is the medieval Scottish patriot who is spurred
- 20:41Speaker 2: into revolt against the English when the love of his
- 20:44Speaker 2: life is slaughtered, leading his army into battles that become
- 20:48Speaker 2: a war. His advance into England threatens King Edward the
- 20:53Speaker 2: first throne, before he is captured and executed, but not
- 20:58Speaker 2: before becoming a symbol for a free Scotland.
- 21:03Speaker 4: Oh nice, nice, great read read, good read read. Let's
- 21:10Speaker 4: go to rotten to models near what they have to say?
- 21:12Speaker 4: Critics have this coming in a pretty surprising seventy six percent.
- 21:17Speaker 2: That was that was really surprising. Did they get bombed
- 21:21Speaker 2: later maybe or something? That's got to be a manly way. Yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 2: it's just like I thought I was. I just assumed
- 21:28Speaker 2: it was revered. I don't know it was. It was
- 21:31Speaker 2: up for ten Academy Awards, now Branton Amelia Perez was
- 21:37Speaker 2: up for eleven. And it wasn't fair. It wasn't great,
- 21:41Speaker 2: that's a fair point. But this was definitely higher, you know,
- 21:45Speaker 2: twenty years ago for sure.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I just want to say, I just remember to shut
- 21:49Speaker 4: off the air conditioner in my room here in my
- 21:51Speaker 4: hotel room, so hopefully that horrible hum went away.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I was just like I thought, we were, just you know,
- 22:00Speaker 2: passing gas for quite some time, just a real steady
- 22:04Speaker 2: stream steady. But you're right.
- 22:09Speaker 4: I mean the Academy Awards, you know, are an off
- 22:12Speaker 4: and on good or bad judge of what's good.
- 22:16Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, that's fair, that's fair Amelia Perez.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Yeah, well, it's just you know, why was it a musical?
- 22:34Speaker 2: It was a crazy story.
- 22:35Speaker 4: In fact, it would have been probably a really great
- 22:37Speaker 4: movie if it wasn't a musical.
- 22:39Speaker 2: That's exactly really interesting and well done, I thought, But
- 22:42Speaker 2: then all the singing happened.
- 22:44Speaker 3: And that was not as good.
- 22:46Speaker 4: And you know when a bunch of dumb dumbs who
- 22:48Speaker 4: do musicals and sing are like, why it's just a musical?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a problem? Yeah, what did we say?
- 22:57Speaker 3: I've probably said it a dozen times on here, but
- 22:59Speaker 3: I just keep coming back to why would you do
- 23:01Speaker 3: musical if you didn't have good songs nor people who
- 23:04Speaker 3: could sing them?
- 23:04Speaker 2: Well, just that's a real interesting swing. It's really no,
- 23:08Speaker 2: it's really the only requirement. I mean, nobody made you
- 23:14Speaker 2: make it a musical.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Very confusing, very brave heart not a musical, thankfully, although
- 23:21Speaker 3: maybe compelling, I don't know. But audience members had it
- 23:26Speaker 3: up at eighty five percent, so that's honestly closer to
- 23:28Speaker 3: what I thought it would be.
- 23:30Speaker 4: For sure, for sure this would be more like a
- 23:34Speaker 4: higher critic than and maybe a lower audience.
- 23:37Speaker 5: But I thought they'd both be at least like a
- 23:39Speaker 5: ninety same.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty interesting, pretty interesting. Well, let's go in
- 23:43Speaker 2: and find out what we think.
- 23:44Speaker 3: It's time for our take.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Oh that's a hot take. That's a hot take.
- 23:53Speaker 3: I see, there's probably fire.
- 23:55Speaker 2: There's a fire, very very I'll go first.
- 24:08Speaker 3: I loved this movie back in the day, A big
- 24:11Speaker 3: fan of it. I already mentioned once, but the double
- 24:14Speaker 3: VHS was really a move back in.
- 24:16Speaker 2: The day that could have been one of the last ones, right, yeah, probably.
- 24:21Speaker 3: I can so vividly remember we rented it and I
- 24:24Speaker 3: was like, there's two this is insane.
- 24:27Speaker 2: We're gonna be here forever. Really fun movie.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Giant set pieces, obviously, with the battles and everything. I
- 24:35Speaker 3: have long loved the Scottish accent. So times.
- 24:42Speaker 2: Loved the Scottish. This is probably where it stemmed from.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Probably fat Bastard for sure, And that was a real
- 24:49Speaker 3: one two punch.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I went hard on the Scottish accent in high school
- 24:53Speaker 2: because of this. Oh yeah, and Treck, you're right, yeah, So.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I married an axe murderer Robbie. In fact, I always
- 25:03Speaker 4: did the Scottish accent. And at one point in where
- 25:06Speaker 4: Robbie and I went to high school, in our cafeteria,
- 25:08Speaker 4: it was lined with all the flags of the whole world.
- 25:12Speaker 4: And after a marching band event in the summer one time,
- 25:18Speaker 4: Jason Koteki and some dudes jumped up and stole the
- 25:22Speaker 4: Scottish flag and gave it to me as a gift.
- 25:26Speaker 2: And that's where it was our freshman year, in our
- 25:29Speaker 2: our in our apartment.
- 25:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the one with the unicorn on it, brecked yep,
- 25:35Speaker 5: the unicorn.
- 25:38Speaker 2: The Scottish flag. The Scottish animal is a unicorn.
- 25:41Speaker 5: The flags just blue with like a white the cross
- 25:48Speaker 5: nicorn though, that's the tangent number one.
- 25:49Speaker 2: But please keep going. Yes, So I really love this movie,
- 25:55Speaker 2: I will say years later the actions of mel Gibson
- 26:00Speaker 2: made this a little harder to watch.
- 26:02Speaker 3: It feels a little more self indulgent.
- 26:04Speaker 4: I mean, we just I mean, I'm yeah, we can.
- 26:09Speaker 4: This is kind of part of my hot take. Also,
- 26:12Speaker 4: so oh nice, I look forward. Yeah, you can jump
- 26:16Speaker 4: in now if you want.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I like, it's pretty clear he doesn't love gay people.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Because the Prince was much meaner than I remembered, And
- 26:26Speaker 3: not that that couldn't have existed, but like they just
- 26:29Speaker 3: made it totally incompetent, with just zero percent of anything
- 26:33Speaker 3: to offer.
- 26:34Speaker 4: We'll just say, I guess, I guess we should just
- 26:36Speaker 4: talk about it now so we don't have to talk
- 26:38Speaker 4: about anymore. Like, Yeah, it makes me upset because I'm
- 26:43Speaker 4: just like Mel Gibson, What the F?
- 26:47Speaker 2: Why in the world? What the F?
- 26:51Speaker 4: Because when I think of mel Gibson, Yo, when you
- 26:57Speaker 4: think of all the great actors of the ages and ninties,
- 27:00Speaker 4: our top actors, Yeah, for sure, Denzel's and our Tom
- 27:04Speaker 4: Hanks's and our Tom Cruise's. Mel Gibson, I mean when
- 27:11Speaker 4: I think from Lethal Weapon all the way through the nineties.
- 27:14Speaker 4: He could do drama, he could do comedy, he could
- 27:18Speaker 4: do action, he could do dialects, he could do Shakespeare.
- 27:23Speaker 4: He was the most charming, charismatic dude on screen every
- 27:29Speaker 4: single movie of his. I just was absolutely in love with,
- 27:33Speaker 4: Like he's the only one out of Like when I
- 27:35Speaker 4: think of Denzel, it's like Denzel does Denzel movies, and
- 27:39Speaker 4: that's cool. Tom Cruise does Tom Cruise movies. Tom Hanks
- 27:43Speaker 4: obviously one of our best, but all of them, I
- 27:47Speaker 4: don't think you could interchange them in their movies. Mel Gibson,
- 27:51Speaker 4: I swear to God, could probably play every role that
- 27:54Speaker 4: those guys played as well as they did. I mean,
- 27:59Speaker 4: he he was as good as it gets at everything,
- 28:03Speaker 4: and it makes me so upset that he just turned
- 28:07Speaker 4: out to be such. Look, I know he had a
- 28:10Speaker 4: lot of substance abuse problems, and I've tried it, like
- 28:13Speaker 4: I'm I try to give him a little grace. I'm
- 28:16Speaker 4: glad he's like, excuse me, like made a little comeback
- 28:21Speaker 4: or whatever. But I'm just like he was as good
- 28:26Speaker 4: as an actor could be, as good of a movie
- 28:28Speaker 4: star could be.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Like he was a movie star.
- 28:32Speaker 4: And then he's directing like years before Affleck and anyone
- 28:36Speaker 4: was doing this, Like I guess Costner had done it. Yeah,
- 28:40Speaker 4: but I mean he comes in and gives us this
- 28:44Speaker 4: and even Apocalypto. I mean like, I'm just like, he
- 28:48Speaker 4: is the most talented dude I've.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Ever seen, and he just ruined it. And I love
- 28:53Speaker 2: his movies so much. I love Lethal Weapons so much,
- 28:56Speaker 2: and I can still watch him and I enjoy it.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Oh, you know, it's just so sad.
- 29:01Speaker 4: It makes me so sad because I cannot believe how
- 29:05Speaker 4: talented he was, just good at everything.
- 29:10Speaker 2: And also like those blue eyes man's I.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Mean yes, also just incredibly good looking. Yeah, super good looking.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Those eyes were just like piercing, they.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Really were in this movie. It was pretty well. They
- 29:22Speaker 2: definitely pumped up that color crush saturation.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but yeah, I honestly the movie is s
- 29:30Speaker 3: dope quite good. It does feel a little more self
- 29:32Speaker 3: indulgent having watched it now.
- 29:34Speaker 2: But but you know, so good in it.
- 29:37Speaker 3: It just seems that he's such a dick.
- 29:39Speaker 4: More than anything like Costner does you know. I mean
- 29:42Speaker 4: this is after after Dances with Wolves, and I'm sure
- 29:45Speaker 4: he watched Dances with Wolves and was like I can
- 29:47Speaker 4: do that and he did. Yeah, you know for sure
- 29:50Speaker 4: Costner is still doing it. I mean I wouldn't say,
- 29:54Speaker 4: I guess my other hot take.
- 29:55Speaker 2: We're just gonna leave.
- 29:56Speaker 4: Mel aside, which I just want to get it out
- 29:58Speaker 4: of the way because obviously we have to address it.
- 30:00Speaker 5: But this kind of gave us the contemporary like war epic.
- 30:07Speaker 4: And I mean like as far as far as like
- 30:10Speaker 4: thousands of extras like crazy because I'm big budget.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Yeah, like before they did it to c cgi and stuff. Well,
- 30:18Speaker 2: exactly right.
- 30:19Speaker 4: And I think like back in the day then the
- 30:21Speaker 4: Golden eight, you know, we had like our ben Hers
- 30:23Speaker 4: and our Lawrence of Arabians. But when you think of
- 30:27Speaker 4: like the seventies and eighties leading into the nineties, like
- 30:29Speaker 4: there were nothing really like this was there. I mean,
- 30:32Speaker 4: Dances with Wolves was a big was a big thing.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Stielberg had a lot of like crazy set pieces, but
- 30:39Speaker 4: it was never like we have three thousand people out
- 30:44Speaker 4: here and we're gonna run at each other and do
- 30:47Speaker 4: these scenes, which after this, I.
- 30:49Speaker 2: Feel like became a little more of a thing. Yeah. Yeah,
- 30:53Speaker 2: I feel like before this, maybe like Glory Glory, there
- 30:58Speaker 2: was a few things.
- 30:59Speaker 4: There was a few, but even in those I don't
- 31:01Speaker 4: remember like crazy wide shots where you were like, that's
- 31:04Speaker 4: two thousand dudes, right, But I know they did battle scenes,
- 31:08Speaker 4: but yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Like the two sides facing off really like this movie
- 31:13Speaker 2: really totally. Yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 3: I will say the one downside to having those giant
- 31:19Speaker 3: battles with real people if you look in the background
- 31:22Speaker 3: of a couple of these scenes. I saw one for
- 31:25Speaker 3: sure where they are fighting tooth and nail and in
- 31:28Speaker 3: the way background I should have clipped it or something.
- 31:31Speaker 2: But there's a guy going like this to another guy.
- 31:34Speaker 2: He's literally going like yeah, yeah, yeah, I definitely saw
- 31:38Speaker 2: that one, just like but hey, it's at the end
- 31:41Speaker 2: of the battle. They're probably weird. Meanwhile, like for six
- 31:47Speaker 2: weeks on your fifteenth.
- 31:49Speaker 3: Watch, I'm just looking in the background finding the people.
- 31:55Speaker 2: It is true.
- 31:56Speaker 3: But the like, the cinematics of this movie are wonderful,
- 32:01Speaker 3: really really good. The acting is great, and I love
- 32:05Speaker 3: the I'm always a sucker for like kind of that
- 32:07Speaker 3: warrior poet, you know, kind of like sort of reluctant
- 32:12Speaker 3: hero as well, right that just gets kind of like
- 32:15Speaker 3: cast into this spot. And yeah, his brain as well
- 32:18Speaker 3: as his brawn and you know all these things, right,
- 32:21Speaker 3: Like those tropes work remarkably well and they're super well
- 32:24Speaker 3: done in this movie. It gives us a ton of
- 32:27Speaker 3: like iconic stuff like the blue face paint and you
- 32:31Speaker 3: know that is.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Still like ubiquitous today, which is so fun.
- 32:34Speaker 3: I just love all that.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I just really love it.
- 32:37Speaker 3: And I think, honestly my favorite parts of this movie
- 32:40Speaker 3: are the scenery and the music because the score is incredible.
- 32:44Speaker 2: So good, dude, James Horner. Perfect, It's so good.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Perfect, But yeah, I still really enjoyed it. I was like, oh,
- 32:53Speaker 3: what a bummer, and so many good performances in this
- 32:58Speaker 3: because the people like the King, I hate that guy.
- 33:02Speaker 3: You know, so many people you suck, which means they're
- 33:06Speaker 3: doing a good job. But I think I think my
- 33:10Speaker 3: hottest take other than the Prince just being totally useless,
- 33:13Speaker 3: is I've just never understood whether you're in battle, you're
- 33:18Speaker 3: lined up?
- 33:19Speaker 2: Why are we running into battle? Can't we just walk there?
- 33:22Speaker 2: You know? That's my hottest take.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Let's just walk that.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Yep, that's an avid endorsman take. Right there is right there? Warrior? No, no,
- 33:34Speaker 2: not really, but definitely not a warrior. Yeah no, no no,
- 33:39Speaker 2: I'd be the guy cooking the meal back at the camp.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I'm not running into anything, let alone battle. That's my hot,
- 33:49Speaker 2: hot take, buddy, very hot take I have for pretty
- 33:53Speaker 2: much the exact same take as yours. I've seen it
- 33:55Speaker 2: so many times. Though it's currently ranked eightieth on the
- 34:00Speaker 2: IMDb Top two fifty. That's good. That's good. Like I said,
- 34:06Speaker 2: it's nominated for ten Academy Awards. It won five of
- 34:09Speaker 2: them for Makeup, Effects, Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Picture.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah yep, mel Gibson directed it. It was his second
- 34:21Speaker 2: film after The Man Without a Face.
- 34:26Speaker 5: For acting.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I can look it up. I was just navigating there
- 34:30Speaker 2: because I was just curious. I'll tell you in a second.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I saw that he he just directed that Flight Risk
- 34:38Speaker 2: movie that Wahlberg did. It didn't did yeah, oh funny.
- 34:45Speaker 2: So it didn't look great at all. Didn't look good. No,
- 34:48Speaker 2: but we'll see. Written by Randall Wallace. He went on
- 34:54Speaker 2: to write and direct The Man in the Iron Mask,
- 34:56Speaker 2: Secretariat and We Were Soldiers, which starred Mel Gibb. It's
- 35:02Speaker 2: it's one of those movies where if on TV, what's up?
- 35:08Speaker 5: Who directed Man.
- 35:09Speaker 2: In the Air un Risk? Randa Wallace who wrote this movie?
- 35:14Speaker 5: Oh okay, sorry, gotcha?
- 35:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He went on to like become a
- 35:19Speaker 2: writer director. He was doing both. But yeah, it's one
- 35:23Speaker 2: of those movies where if it's on TV, I end
- 35:25Speaker 2: up watching the whole thing. It happened on the tour
- 35:28Speaker 2: bus in the last year or two where it was
- 35:31Speaker 2: on after I got done with the show, and then
- 35:33Speaker 2: I stayed up until three in the morning watching it.
- 35:38Speaker 2: But yeah, story is amazing. It sounds like the writer
- 35:42Speaker 2: came up with a lot of the plot points to
- 35:44Speaker 2: make it more romantic slash dramatic, not the truth, probably
- 35:50Speaker 2: very fictionalized, which you know, it's happened a super long
- 35:55Speaker 2: time ago, and it's I'm not mad at it. You
- 35:59Speaker 2: had of the cinematography that was amazing, especially during all
- 36:02Speaker 2: the battle scenes. Again, James Horner was so good. Loved
- 36:06Speaker 2: the cast. It started my appreciation for Brendan Gleeson, who
- 36:10Speaker 2: I adore. Also is barely recognizable for some reason to me,
- 36:16Speaker 2: I know, just that big old beard on his face. Yes,
- 36:20Speaker 2: grows a good beard. That's a very fine beard. Depressed
- 36:24Speaker 2: he hasn't done it more often, honestly, Yeah, seriously, But
- 36:28Speaker 2: it's the funny thing. The funniest thing about him to
- 36:30Speaker 2: me is what's that is that he always reminded me
- 36:34Speaker 2: of your dad. Yeah, I remember you said that. It
- 36:37Speaker 2: is funny. I do love that and I can totally
- 36:40Speaker 2: see it. Absolutely. Yeah, that's funny. Looks like he's a
- 36:44Speaker 2: tallman as well. Yeah, I would assume the big guy.
- 36:48Speaker 2: Those Gleasons, I think they're taller. But yeah, it's just
- 36:52Speaker 2: been one of my favorite movies for the last thirty years.
- 36:55Speaker 2: So hot take. I was shocked at how long it
- 36:59Speaker 2: took for the scene where they kill William Wallace's wife.
- 37:04Speaker 2: It was it was over a half hour into the film,
- 37:06Speaker 2: and I just did not remember it moving like that
- 37:10Speaker 2: slowly to start. I feel like they could have shaved
- 37:14Speaker 2: some of that off some you know, it was good
- 37:17Speaker 2: world building, sure, but it just it lasted way longer
- 37:21Speaker 2: than I had remembered.
- 37:22Speaker 4: It's fun because I would like to jump on and
- 37:24Speaker 4: piggyback on that because I agree, But I I don't
- 37:30Speaker 4: know if I really have a hot take already said.
- 37:32Speaker 4: I feel like it sort of started the modern way we.
- 37:36Speaker 5: Do war movies, certainly like in the Marvel world and.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Stuff like running at each other and doing things.
- 37:42Speaker 4: But I actually I rewatched it last night and I
- 37:47Speaker 4: was tired, and I was like, I don't know if
- 37:49Speaker 4: I can do this whole three hours. But when I
- 37:54Speaker 4: think of it, it's it's like two hours and fifty
- 37:56Speaker 4: seven minutes. It's a three hour movie. Yeah, But when
- 37:59Speaker 4: I think of things like and look, I love Scorsese,
- 38:03Speaker 4: and I love a lot of people like Killers of
- 38:05Speaker 4: the Flower Moon or The Irishman or This Last Year,
- 38:10Speaker 4: like the Brutalist, Like I can I could cut out
- 38:14Speaker 4: forty minutes like that, Like no problem. And I will
- 38:18Speaker 4: say this movie for being three hours, I feel like
- 38:22Speaker 4: there are very few places where I think there's downtime.
- 38:26Speaker 4: I agree that if it probably is in that first
- 38:30Speaker 4: half hour, especially with her, but I also think that
- 38:33Speaker 4: she gets killed so fast. You need to we need
- 38:36Speaker 4: to see this love affair blossom otherwise, like we need
- 38:41Speaker 4: to buy that he's going to go on this rage spree,
- 38:44Speaker 4: you know, like yeah, I mean, that's kind of one
- 38:48Speaker 4: of the only places where I'm like, I guess you
- 38:50Speaker 4: could shave this love love time down a little bit.
- 38:54Speaker 2: But also I'm like kind of like, we need that.
- 38:56Speaker 2: But after once she dies, they're real. It really just
- 39:01Speaker 2: cooks of the movie. I just couldn't believe how long
- 39:05Speaker 2: it took to get to that, especially when he's a kid.
- 39:10Speaker 2: It was way more kid time it is than I remembered.
- 39:13Speaker 4: But what's funny is it's still probably only like fifteen minutes,
- 39:17Speaker 4: and if it was Scorsesey, that would be forty minutes, right, Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 4: And he really just wants you to see what long
- 39:24Speaker 4: Shanks is capable of, so.
- 39:26Speaker 2: You know it later. But I'm with you, but I
- 39:30Speaker 2: it was more just surprising. I think that you need
- 39:33Speaker 2: that and like, there's so many parts of that that
- 39:35Speaker 2: I love, like when she gives him the flower and
- 39:38Speaker 2: then years later he gives it back to her, just like,
- 39:41Speaker 2: oh that was wonderful. Yeah. I don't think there's any
- 39:46Speaker 2: wasted time really for the most part. Yeah, for how
- 39:51Speaker 2: long it is? Right right? Right? Because again, like when
- 39:53Speaker 2: I watched Killers of the Flower Moon, I was like, bro,
- 39:57Speaker 2: let's keep it moving.
- 39:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I could have cut twenty minutes out of that
- 40:01Speaker 4: in the first hour, I think. I was like, yeah, yeah,
- 40:06Speaker 4: I do think Gibson was good at directing for sure.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Yeah. Also, sorry Tangent. Nicholas Cage won
- 40:19Speaker 2: Best Actor that year. That is that is fair. That's fair, And.
- 40:24Speaker 3: Gibson wasn't even he wasn't even nominated, which I think
- 40:27Speaker 3: is interesting.
- 40:28Speaker 5: He wasn't.
- 40:29Speaker 3: No, it was Richard Dreyfus for Hollins Opus, Anthony Hopkins Nixon,
- 40:35Speaker 3: Sean Penn Dead Man Walking, and then Massimo Tracy for
- 40:39Speaker 3: The Postman and that was up that posthumous.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Uh that was right? Did the Postman? I think? So? Yeah?
- 40:49Speaker 2: I never actually saw that one. So it's not Postman,
- 40:52Speaker 2: is it.
- 40:53Speaker 5: It couldn't couldn't have been. Are you saying I ill
- 40:57Speaker 5: Postino or something.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Oh, yes, listed as the Postman original title. Yeah, you
- 41:03Speaker 3: know that makes more sense. Yeah, the Mostman though, right.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Yes he did, Yeah, which I like more than we do.
- 41:11Speaker 2: But yeah, I don't think I saw it. It's actually
- 41:15Speaker 2: my only other hot take is that one part that
- 41:19Speaker 2: always took me out of the movie was when he
- 41:23Speaker 2: jumps the horse into the water and that fake ass
- 41:27Speaker 2: horse is falling. But also it's just so clearly a
- 41:32Speaker 2: stunt double in the first shot. Yeah, it just always
- 41:36Speaker 2: took me out. They did that a lot back then.
- 41:38Speaker 2: It was such an eighties and earlier. Yeah, that's so
- 41:41Speaker 2: funny because then what I thought of when Benny said
- 41:45Speaker 2: nothing could be cut, I was like, we could have
- 41:47Speaker 2: just killed the guy and then done the horse, done
- 41:49Speaker 2: the horse thing.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure, twenty seconds, but that was an unnecessary,
- 41:54Speaker 4: like some weird that's true.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, that's the only part that really took takes
- 42:00Speaker 2: me up. That's all I got, Benny, What you got, buddy,
- 42:04Speaker 2: I mean, you know, I already kind of said it.
- 42:06Speaker 5: I think this really, I think this really.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Went next level, took us to the next level with
- 42:12Speaker 4: the war sort of epic war things, even though obviously
- 42:17Speaker 4: it had been done.
- 42:17Speaker 2: I just think this was a kind of a next
- 42:21Speaker 2: level of.
- 42:21Speaker 4: Close quarters combat and like seeing huge groups go up
- 42:25Speaker 4: against each other. And yeah, I this movie blew my mind. Yeah,
- 42:34Speaker 4: I saw this in the theater. I don't, I Robbie.
- 42:38Speaker 4: For some reason, I thought I saw it with you,
- 42:39Speaker 4: but I don't think I did now. I can't remember
- 42:41Speaker 4: who I saw it was. I don't think so, but
- 42:43Speaker 4: I remember like in the like closing scene, the execution scene,
- 42:48Speaker 4: having an audible.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:56Speaker 4: It just it just absolutely blew me away. It was
- 42:59Speaker 4: kind of like watching it was kind of like watching
- 43:02Speaker 4: pulp fiction or something like. It changed the way I
- 43:05Speaker 4: thought about movies a little bit totally. Yeah, you know,
- 43:08Speaker 4: and I remember being like Mel Gibson's directing it.
- 43:11Speaker 2: That's weird.
- 43:12Speaker 4: That's weird, even though I love Dancing with the Wolves also.
- 43:19Speaker 4: So it just really blew my mind. And I don't
- 43:22Speaker 4: really have a hot take, to be honest. I mean,
- 43:26Speaker 4: I just loved it so much. I watched it so much.
- 43:31Speaker 4: It's a weird thing to watch a lot, but I did.
- 43:35Speaker 4: And I feel like, I feel like, what's funny is
- 43:38Speaker 4: I feel like like eight years ago, roughly I watched
- 43:43Speaker 4: it because I think I showed Stephanie or seven or
- 43:45Speaker 4: six years ago. I showed it to Stephanie because she
- 43:48Speaker 4: had never seen it, and I was like, this, see,
- 43:51Speaker 4: isn't quite as good as I remember it. But then
- 43:54Speaker 4: last night I watched it again and I was like,
- 43:57Speaker 4: this is unbelievable.
- 43:58Speaker 3: I still like it.
- 44:01Speaker 5: I don't know, I just think I just think it's.
- 44:04Speaker 4: It's one of those like it's like so many music
- 44:07Speaker 4: musicians and songs like you. If you dropped this movie
- 44:11Speaker 4: today exactly how it is, I feel like I wouldn't
- 44:15Speaker 4: bad and I'd be like, this is a great movie. Yeah,
- 44:20Speaker 4: it feels pretty timeless. I mean there's not much you know, again,
- 44:26Speaker 4: maybe some background actors c G. I it might look
- 44:29Speaker 4: worse today, honestly, Yeah, you know, I just think it
- 44:33Speaker 4: was such a one of one at the time, even
- 44:36Speaker 4: after Dancing with the Wolves, which was such a such
- 44:39Speaker 4: an accomplishment also, but this was just like another step
- 44:43Speaker 4: the despite the apparently insane historical inaccuracies, yes, yeah, which
- 44:53Speaker 4: which we definitely didn't know about it and we can
- 44:55Speaker 4: talk about when we get to the trivia. I've actually
- 44:57Speaker 4: known about that for quite a while. But yeah, apparently
- 45:01Speaker 4: extremely inaccurate. Yeah, but this is Benny Ilach saying, I
- 45:06Speaker 4: don't give an f Yeah, given don't.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Care about It's also it's.
- 45:13Speaker 2: Also one of the movie things where it's not even
- 45:15Speaker 2: like it starts with.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Based on true it doesn't say anything, which which so
- 45:20Speaker 4: many movies are based on true stories, and they take liberties,
- 45:22Speaker 4: which I'm always like, I'm fine with, Like it's a movie,
- 45:27Speaker 4: you should always assume they're like, there's a pretty good
- 45:30Speaker 4: dollop of lies.
- 45:31Speaker 2: And of course it's more if you're trying to do
- 45:34Speaker 2: that with something that is recent, yes, hundred hundreds of
- 45:40Speaker 2: years ago, of course, you know.
- 45:43Speaker 4: But so I don't really have a great hot take
- 45:46Speaker 4: other than just mel Gibson making me upset because I
- 45:49Speaker 4: just I'm just was just the biggest fan of all.
- 45:52Speaker 2: I'm still a fan of watching his work. You know.
- 45:54Speaker 2: It's like going going back and watching Kevin Spacey's stuff.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Spacey is tough, you know, It's it sucks because because
- 46:01Speaker 2: he is amazing hot takes, but yeah, so hot, unbelievable.
- 46:07Speaker 5: This moviel my.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Mind blew my mind. Yeah for real, I agree, real, Well, yeah,
- 46:14Speaker 2: let's let's let's do our favorite acting performance let's choose
- 46:17Speaker 2: the dude, the dude.
- 46:20Speaker 4: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 46:23Speaker 4: know that, or his dude or duder or you know,
- 46:29Speaker 4: eldudo reno.
- 46:30Speaker 2: If you're not into the whole brevity thing. Should be
- 46:32Speaker 2: pretty easy. Probably the dude. I mean, obviously it's mel
- 46:38Speaker 2: every scene, damn near.
- 46:40Speaker 4: I mean, he literally is in every scene. He's so
- 46:44Speaker 4: such a good actor. He's you know, I've heard people
- 46:47Speaker 4: bitch about the dialect, but you know, as an actor,
- 46:51Speaker 4: I'm very I think if you're consistent with it the
- 46:56Speaker 4: whole time, yeah, way more important than and then being
- 47:02Speaker 4: fully accurate. Yes, And I think he's fine at it.
- 47:07Speaker 4: I don't think he seems out of place with anyone
- 47:10Speaker 4: else that's in the movie.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Well, it's not like over the top either, which helps,
- 47:16Speaker 4: you know, I mean, and look like he could have
- 47:19Speaker 4: gone over the top because I've heard Schotlish people from
- 47:23Speaker 4: the Highlands who you're like, are you You're I know
- 47:27Speaker 4: you're speaking English technically, but I can't even understand. Also,
- 47:33Speaker 4: he has such a good sense of comedy and when
- 47:36Speaker 4: to keep it light. Yes, he would be so easy
- 47:42Speaker 4: for this to be so heavy all the way through
- 47:44Speaker 4: and there's so much just light moments anytime they have.
- 47:49Speaker 4: You know, as an actor, I always tell people, you
- 47:52Speaker 4: know that I get asked, what's if comedy or drama
- 47:56Speaker 4: is harder or whatever, and I'm like, there literally is
- 47:59Speaker 4: no difference. Just the writing is how I feel like
- 48:02Speaker 4: you should approach it. And in fact, I always say,
- 48:06Speaker 4: when something's really serious, you should try and find the levity,
- 48:10Speaker 4: and when something's funny, you should try to find the
- 48:13Speaker 4: grounded serious moments.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Which always makes me think of Leslie Nielsen and Naked
- 48:19Speaker 3: Gun because it so serious, you.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Know, exactly right, And I think Mel in this movie
- 48:26Speaker 4: just really every chance they get to lighten it up,
- 48:29Speaker 4: they do it. And he's just so Also, like who
- 48:33Speaker 4: emotes better on screen than Mel Gibson, I mean really good.
- 48:38Speaker 4: He's just so he's just so intense. I don't know,
- 48:42Speaker 4: he's just unreal. Again, going back to my anger about him.
- 48:48Speaker 2: There is one scene that always just destroys me. And
- 48:52Speaker 2: it's just he's not saying anything. It's just when he
- 48:57Speaker 2: sees Robert the Bruce is the one that jos did off.
- 49:01Speaker 2: You just see the expression on his face, doesn't say
- 49:04Speaker 2: a thing. You're just like, I know, exactly what you're thinking.
- 49:08Speaker 2: And I saw some of the breaks in the battlefield
- 49:11Speaker 2: and it's terribly about ye. Yes, yes, that was his
- 49:15Speaker 2: reaction to Mel's faith in that scene. Yeah, it was
- 49:20Speaker 2: so good. And then he's he's just like he just
- 49:22Speaker 2: lays down, like, Okay.
- 49:26Speaker 4: He acted better later because of Mel's face and that
- 49:29Speaker 4: one freaking scene.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:32Speaker 4: I mean he has so many he has so many
- 49:35Speaker 4: things that he doesn't is just outstanding. He's outstanding.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed, And yeah, I was going to say that
- 49:43Speaker 2: bit about that scene that just always just blew me
- 49:45Speaker 2: away that he didn't say a word and I just
- 49:48Speaker 2: know exactly what he's thinking. So so good. Yeah, I
- 49:52Speaker 2: love it, clean sweep.
- 49:54Speaker 3: I love his acting in this almost as much as
- 49:56Speaker 3: I love the people of Jewish faith, almost as much
- 50:00Speaker 3: as I love l g B t Q people, almost
- 50:02Speaker 3: as much as I love not hitting partners.
- 50:05Speaker 2: So you know, I love it. I think it's great
- 50:07Speaker 2: and good for him.
- 50:09Speaker 4: He really hit the tray effected with being a piece
- 50:15Speaker 4: he said, and we're not gonna say it on this podcast,
- 50:18Speaker 4: but if you really go back and look at some
- 50:20Speaker 4: of the things that.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Came out of his mouth, damn, horrible, horrible, horrible.
- 50:29Speaker 3: He's not great, bro, my god, but he's really a
- 50:34Speaker 3: great actor.
- 50:35Speaker 2: You know, I don't know how to mel Gibson. We
- 50:37Speaker 2: have to separate him, I guess I don't know.
- 50:39Speaker 3: But also so yeah, uh that's what I got. But
- 50:43Speaker 3: he is wonderful in this movie for sure. Yea, And
- 50:47Speaker 3: I love a ton of the movies he's directed to, like,
- 50:51Speaker 3: Ridge is good, It's good.
- 50:55Speaker 6: I didn't.
- 50:56Speaker 4: I didn't see hacksty Ridge till like after the Oscars
- 50:58Speaker 4: that year, because I was like, is this movie right?
- 51:01Speaker 4: I don't even hear anything about this, And I was
- 51:03Speaker 4: just like, this is unbelievable, this is wonderful. It was Apocalypto,
- 51:08Speaker 4: I mean Apocalypto.
- 51:10Speaker 2: I never saw it was great. I should watch that. Yeah,
- 51:15Speaker 2: fun movie. He's crazy talented, it's stupid.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Yeah, this cast is giant, though. So let's go in
- 51:24Speaker 3: and talk to his other folks.
- 51:25Speaker 2: Let's name we got for this one, bud it good luck.
- 51:32Speaker 3: A lot of people to pick from.
- 51:36Speaker 4: Me.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you sorry? You want me to go first?
- 51:39Speaker 4: Yes, I'm gonna. I'm gonna zag a bit here. Well,
- 51:46Speaker 4: I'm not gonna sag. I'm just I want to have
- 51:48Speaker 4: the Brandon Gleeson conversation because I'm just I'm so glad
- 51:52Speaker 4: this movie gave us Brandon Gleeson, yes, because it's been
- 51:57Speaker 4: now thirty years of just he's the best. But I'm
- 52:02Speaker 4: actually gonna I want to go with uh, sorry, what's
- 52:09Speaker 4: his name? At Patrick McGowin, Oh. I think is low
- 52:18Speaker 4: key one of the best movie villains we've ever had.
- 52:22Speaker 2: I hate him.
- 52:22Speaker 4: I mean he's horrible, he's great, but like, as an
- 52:26Speaker 4: acting performance, he is so unbelievably good. He never he
- 52:32Speaker 4: never does anything crazy, he never, he's super low key
- 52:36Speaker 4: the whole movie. Yes, but he's just like in charge
- 52:40Speaker 4: of every room. He's in every moment he's ever in
- 52:43Speaker 4: until his final moment, basically, which makes it all the
- 52:47Speaker 4: more satisfying to.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Watch him die.
- 52:50Speaker 4: He's he's such an insanely horrible villain, but he's such
- 52:56Speaker 4: a good actor. He's so good at it, and he
- 52:59Speaker 4: could have been so over the top and he didn't.
- 53:03Speaker 4: And you know, a couple of years later, he's the
- 53:05Speaker 4: judge in A Time to Kill, A Time to Kill
- 53:08Speaker 4: I said that, and he's like a southern you know judge,
- 53:14Speaker 4: and he's kind of a bad guy in that. But
- 53:17Speaker 4: you're you're so ready for him to be as evil
- 53:19Speaker 4: as Longshanks that in that movie he ends up kind
- 53:22Speaker 4: of being like a fair normal judge, but you're just
- 53:26Speaker 4: like scared of him. I'm just like, it's like, what's
- 53:30Speaker 4: his name? As the Warden in Shashank, He's just so
- 53:35Speaker 4: he's so awful that I'm just I just honestly, I
- 53:39Speaker 4: would possibly put him in my top five villains of
- 53:41Speaker 4: all time with Vader and Joker and maybe maybe Shashank. Honestly, yeah, yeah,
- 53:52Speaker 4: I think it would be Vader and Joker and Shashank
- 53:57Speaker 4: Warden and Yep and s Long Shanks and God, I'd
- 54:04Speaker 4: have to think of the next one, but I think
- 54:06Speaker 4: he's up there. It's one of my favorite villain performances
- 54:08Speaker 4: of all time, and he's again he's also kind of
- 54:12Speaker 4: funny too when he does the.
- 54:16Speaker 5: End, sir, when we hit, when we hit our own troops,
- 54:19Speaker 5: yes as.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Well, we have we have reserves. Also, when he's like, oh,
- 54:29Speaker 2: tell me about your your war strategies. That sounds great,
- 54:33Speaker 2: heats that dude out the window.
- 54:35Speaker 4: Oh dude, And then he's like, well, but couldn't we
- 54:39Speaker 4: couldn't the princess be in danger?
- 54:41Speaker 5: Yes, I'm sure that would upset my son.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Can I say that's the one rewrite I would do
- 54:50Speaker 2: to this movie.
- 54:51Speaker 3: I would just have the son offer up his lady
- 54:55Speaker 3: and be like, because that could have shown that he
- 54:57Speaker 3: had something to offer as the prince.
- 55:00Speaker 2: To be like, yeah, dad, what do I care? If
- 55:03Speaker 2: if she dies?
- 55:04Speaker 3: The King of France is going to be pissed.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I don't want to have sex with her anyway. You
- 55:08Speaker 2: know that would have been so easy.
- 55:11Speaker 5: I do you think they could have done something else
- 55:13Speaker 5: with him?
- 55:14Speaker 3: Like if it's not if it's not factually accurate, then what.
- 55:21Speaker 2: Right? Yeah?
- 55:23Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm going with I'm going with long Shaks.
- 55:26Speaker 4: I just think he's truly truly top five villain maybe
- 55:30Speaker 4: of all time.
- 55:31Speaker 2: He's up there. Yeah, man, that's that's great. I would
- 55:36Speaker 2: maybe cheat and give it to both Brendan Gleason and
- 55:39Speaker 2: James Cosmo because I love.
- 55:41Speaker 3: That father relationship is the best, also wonderful. His dad
- 55:47Speaker 3: is a terrible warrior. He gets hurt in every single battle.
- 55:52Speaker 2: I just written down. He rough end of the stick
- 55:56Speaker 2: for him. I mean, a badass for sure, but also
- 56:01Speaker 2: totally he takes an arrow.
- 56:03Speaker 4: He takes an arrow to the chest in their first
- 56:05Speaker 4: thing ever, then in their first MG battle, he takes
- 56:09Speaker 4: he gets his hand chopped on basically yeah.
- 56:13Speaker 2: And then in their next MG battle, he just takes
- 56:15Speaker 2: an ACT to the stomach. Yeah, which eventually just leads
- 56:18Speaker 2: to his death.
- 56:19Speaker 5: But my guy.
- 56:21Speaker 4: Also while they cauterize his wound. Yes, he's just Also
- 56:28Speaker 4: he's just Scottish Robert Duvall.
- 56:30Speaker 5: Which I've always loved like that.
- 56:33Speaker 2: That's great.
- 56:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, those two are so good though.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Two, They're so fun. I love them so much. Yeah,
- 56:41Speaker 2: it broke my heart love that. What do you have you?
- 56:47Speaker 3: I love David O'Hara, he'd be right there, Irish dude.
- 56:52Speaker 3: He's my favorite Steve.
- 56:54Speaker 4: I think he's so good in this and he's just
- 56:57Speaker 4: like again that little bit of comedy that we need
- 57:00Speaker 4: various points.
- 57:00Speaker 2: He's just a really cool he's the funniest part. By absolutely,
- 57:05Speaker 2: it's a better character intro than him. I do so good.
- 57:12Speaker 2: It's so good. That would have been a good top
- 57:14Speaker 2: five best character intro. Really good. That would have been
- 57:19Speaker 2: fun because yeah, his is perfect. Man.
- 57:25Speaker 4: Really quickly they get to they give you the fake
- 57:28Speaker 4: out where yes, it looks like he's gonna try and
- 57:32Speaker 4: kill Wallace. It's the opposite and that all happens in
- 57:37Speaker 4: like five minutes. Yeah, did that guy do anything else?
- 57:43Speaker 2: Why? Dude, I was just going to say, I'm usually
- 57:48Speaker 2: pretty good with faces. He is in the Departed, and
- 57:56Speaker 2: the dude that is him, Well he's he does the
- 58:02Speaker 2: Citizens Bank thing. He's part of that whole du you
- 58:08Speaker 2: just my brain. I know, obviously that's him. Now I'm like,
- 58:13Speaker 2: of course that's him. It's totally him.
- 58:16Speaker 4: Wow, when you asked him how he could have known,
- 58:20Speaker 4: it was exactly crap. Of course that's him.
- 58:26Speaker 2: I never put that together episode.
- 58:30Speaker 5: Yeah, that is crazy as.
- 58:35Speaker 2: He is an airy Potter and he's the Albert Runcorn. Uh,
- 58:43Speaker 2: he's one of the people they take over there. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, right,
- 58:47Speaker 2: you're right. Yeah, the black leather jacket, it's different. Oh
- 58:54Speaker 2: my gosh.
- 58:55Speaker 4: And see what's funny is I just rewatched all of
- 58:57Speaker 4: Harry Potter with Stephanie because she wanted to. And when
- 59:01Speaker 4: I watched it, I was like, oh, that's the dude
- 59:02Speaker 4: from the Departed. That's great.
- 59:04Speaker 2: Yeah, God, that Robbie. That's a great call.
- 59:09Speaker 5: I didn't realize that that's I can't believe I.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Never put that together. Yeah, I blew my mind. Love
- 59:16Speaker 2: that he was wonderful in this He's so good. He's
- 59:21Speaker 2: just great. Special shout out to Michael Byrne or Byron
- 59:26Speaker 2: who is the one who goes after Mel's wife or
- 59:31Speaker 2: his lady friends. Horrible and all I put was, I
- 59:35Speaker 2: hate this dude, yes, but he's really good.
- 59:38Speaker 3: And it's like two seconds, but it was so.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Funny even on the rewatch. Just the first time I
- 59:44Speaker 2: saw his face as one of the guards, I was like, Yeah,
- 59:47Speaker 2: that guy, just like that guy.
- 59:50Speaker 4: Can I just say I wanted to talk about this
- 59:52Speaker 4: quick because just because that her death is one of
- 59:59Speaker 4: the like the worst movie deaths ever for me. I
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: think it's strangely because they almost don't make that big
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: of a deal about it cinematically, Like there's no there's
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: no big music build, there's no music at all. They
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: don't shocking, they don't show William Wallace like watching from
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: a distance and having a breakdown. They don't even show
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: her parents like freaking out or anything. Like, there's nothing.
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: It's so quick and cold and horrible, and it makes
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: it feel so.
- 1:00:33Speaker 5: Much more real.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: The fact that it's just that's how quick it like
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: really was always so just disturbing to me. More than
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: a normal, like big cinematic death because and it's the
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: it's the the catalyst for the entire story. Yeah, but
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: the way he chose to shoot it and present it
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: is so skilling and real and it's like, yeah, it's terrible, it's.
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Terrible, agreed. I just wanted to.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: Say it because I just it's always hitting, yeah, dude,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: and makes it so much more shocking for sure.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: Yeah, just to just to piggyback off what rob said
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: right away. Uh, I thought Young William was really good
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: and was in it for way longer than I remember.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: But I thought that little kid actor James Robinson was
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: his name. He was really talented.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I thought he It looks like he's still doing stuff too.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: He's been working. Yeah, No, no, I don't, Leo. I
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: don't think he's done a lot of big stuff, and
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: I think it's mostly British TV. Yeah, still still doing it.
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: That's always for him though there's a million others, but
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: that's all. Yeah. Angus mcfaden is Robert the Bruce. You
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: got to bring him up. I love how he acted.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: I hated Robert the Bruce, pretty unlikable. Yeah, until he
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: finally man, Yeah, it took too long, Yeah, way too great. Great,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: But we have to talk about Brendan Gleeson. Yeah, I
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: mean well I said I I was pretty much gonna,
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: uh too tie it with yeah, yeah, with James Cosmo.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: But yeah, so good.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: I mean, like, look what we got from Brendan Gleeson
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: for the next man. His son's awesome too.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: His son is so good, which we all know. That's
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: how you said. We know it's Donal, Yes that.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: I didn't know, but man, Brendan Gleeson what a also
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: just like it just kind of came out of nowhere too.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Udeah and one of the like you said, one of
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: the best careers, maybe of the last twenty years, easily thirty.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: I guess he's just so good.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Every time he shows up, you're like, oh, yes, there standing, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: he is great, perfect.
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: Yeah. He always reminded me of Robbie's dad always.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, that's funny. There's like two women
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: in this movie, and one of them is Sophie Marcel.
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: Pretty great, wonderful, beautiful, very great. You know who also great?
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: What's his name with the scar on his face. He's
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: been a lot of fun. Tommy Flanagin, Chips, Red and
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: Sons of Anarchy, a bunch of blinder. He's Russell Crows
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: guy and Gladiator. Yep. He's had a nice little career too. Yeah,
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: them and Brian Cox pretty small roles.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: But you bring cocks.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Boy because he he already was had his career going
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: at this point, but it was more like theater and
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: little movie things. But talk about coming in and crushing
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: it for two quicks. I mean literally everything, everything that
- 1:03:54Speaker 4: comes out of his mouth is unbelievably awesome.
- 1:03:58Speaker 5: Perfect. Yes, here's like six lines.
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: And they're all incredible. Yeah, I mean one was pretty
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: intense or you're just like, well, I bet you didn't
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: want your dad.
- 1:04:11Speaker 5: You didn't want your father to die, but he did,
- 1:04:13Speaker 5: didn't he? But also like, first, learn to use this this,
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: I'll teach you how to use this, and he did.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: Them like they're whatever in their own way, playing out
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: log tunes on out loud pipes.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: Yeah, he's unbelievable. Yea, he's unbelievable. Two seconds in a movie,
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: I'm just like this guy, this guy's gonna be someone.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: Yeah, why does he look exactly the same rightsome looking roy?
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: Mister Roy? Yeah? What's his first name? And that I
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: forget uh something?
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: Yuh yeah what Logan Roy Logan Logan Roy.
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: But yeah, man, I'm thank you for bringing that up.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: I wanted to bring it. It's unbelievable, unseerious.
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: People just coming in hot for five minutes and just
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: crushing and you just immediately like get where he learned
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: when when he says the you don't speak Latin, that's
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: something left to remedy, isn't it.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Yeah, like you was like, oh man, so good this
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: this movie.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: This movie does a lot of cool stuff like that
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: where they don't like they do that. And then he
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: comes back and it's so easy for you to know, like,
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: oh he he went and learned from this dude. Like
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: everything he does you're not surprised by.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: They fill in the blanks without like explicitly telling you
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: right like they just yeah, it's very it's very well
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: again well directed.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: He's just really like, I don't because you know, if
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: it's score s easier someone it's like I.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: Need to show this.
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: I need to show is growing up montage. You know
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: a lot of people would want to show that. Yeah,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: and it's kind of awesome that it just doesn't happen.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: It's great. Yep, Uh. The only other person I wrote
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: down was the Royal magistrate who is like the executioner.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: His name is David Gant. But I always thought I
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: was like, that guy has one of the best voices
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: that I've ever heard, and that he killed it like
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: on the theater some theater shows, for sure. Yes, dude,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: I always just thought he had a really cool speaking voice.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: But yeah, that's about it. I think one of the guys, uh,
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: what's his name, one of the one of the other.
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: Clan nobles.
- 1:06:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like original Thenardier and Lames, rob and stuff.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: Oh really mm hmmm.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: I think the one he kills right before the he
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: jumps his horse into the water bugs. His favorite favorite
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: scene scene, What's So Dumb Likes was cool. It's just
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: always funny when they do these movies with all these
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: like British people and then they like have these little
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: small parts and then you look and they're like, oh,
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: they're just an incredible stage actor or something. They've only
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: been doing them for sixty years or whatever.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just amazing. Yeah, that's fun. Well, let's move
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: on to our favorite scenes. I feel like this is
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: going to take a minute, and let's choose the Dingus.
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: So think it's quite simple, really ingus, ingus. I could
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: talk about my dingus all night long.
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: I'll go first just to piggyback off where what we
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: were just saying about, uh not explaining stuff. I mean
- 1:07:54Speaker 4: right after his wife gets killed and his initial rolling in, yeah,
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: and their first assault basically on them one, you're just
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: like ready, so ready to watch them get murdered. But
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: also again it seems like and again, tell me what
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: you think. It seems to me like that's like a
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: coordinated attack absolutely because William comes in and does its thing.
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: And I used to think though though other guys just
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: kind of jumped in, but now when I watch it,
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: I'm like, no, they they like talked.
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: About this.
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: Because they're all ready to go.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: They have a plan, they do their thing, and it's
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: which is amazing because it shows you how great they
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: all work together and what's about to happen coming up.
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: But I just I love again that they just do
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: it and they don't explain it, and you're just you're
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: so messed up from what what you just watched that
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: you're so ready for some revenge and it's just like
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: let's go, and it just sets off the whole thing,
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: and then he brings the dude out and slits his
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: throat on the Yeah, so I want to I just
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: wanted to mention that, but I would say my favorite
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: scene is probably the Sterling just battle. I feel like
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: that just encompasses the whole movie from start to finish.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: It's like, that's what Braveheart is.
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: If if you want to tell someone what Brave Heart is,
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: you would just say, we're gonna watch this fifteen minutes.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: You get the speech, you get the you get the
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: whole the whole deal.
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: You understand what's who they are compared to all the
- 1:09:45Speaker 4: other you understand what the rest of Scotland feels about this.
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: Everyone's very passive. We don't want to get involved. They
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: got those two guys. Speaking of that, one guy ended
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: up being in Westworld and in Ozark if you remember him,
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: he's like the older guy.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: Oh, the.
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: The guy who looks like strangely looks like Will Ferrell,
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: who's like, we're not dying for these Bostards.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, oh that guy.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: Yes, Peter Mulley, right, Yeah, in that sweet West World
- 1:10:18Speaker 4: episode where he's in the world, been in Ozark where
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: he's like, what's her name's husband, right, he's a great actor,
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: just playing a tiny little turn.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Yeah. So yeah, i'd probably say the sterling just sequences
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: my absolutely, dude. Yeah, that's that's for sure, I will say.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: So that's the one where they also where they have
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: the big spears right and they're like, we're gonna make
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: them huge. Y.
- 1:10:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: I do feel like there's they've messed up in the
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: editing at one point in there where like they're they're
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: charging at them and it's like the hold and all that,
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: which I've said oh yeah, oh yeah a billion times,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: but I feel like they they cut to the spears
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: too early, like they give you a flash of it
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: before they actually reveal it. And I didn't go back
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: and check, but I I felt like I saw it,
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: and I've always felt like, I think you're right because
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: it's like spears, no spears, spears and then it is.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: To be fair, there's a few of.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Those in this movie. There's a few continuity errors. Yeah,
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Like there's one.
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: In that where there's one where he got his sword
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: out and they're charging and then he cuts back and
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: he's got it in. And also there's a there's a
- 1:11:41Speaker 4: famous mess up where you can see a truck at
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: one point, really really yeah.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: I didn't see that that that's really it's really quick,
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: but it's there. That's like the Starbucks and Game of Thrones, there's.
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: A there's a there's a great gend off one where
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: he's wearing a wristwatch.
- 1:12:02Speaker 5: Yes, fighting maze.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's just a weird thing because that's just editing,
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: Like that's that's just they and it's only for like
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: a quick second that they go to it, and it's
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: like such a big reveal that I was always surprised
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: that that was lifted. But I do agree that's for
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: sure the number one. The second scene, the second scene
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: that I think of the most with this is just
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: that ending torture scene. It's uh, just nuts, him coming
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: in them throwing all the food at him, and just
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: how it goes from like yeah, so quiet and all
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: you can hear is just the the creaky wheels of
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: the thing that he's coming in on, and then a
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: dude spits and it's just like Mayhem from then on,
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: and uh.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just so by the end there on the side,
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: he's like Rocky for he's got the Russians. Even the
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: thing he does with the kid like looking at the kid.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Yeah, of such great man. I've never noticed that before.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: But that felt like that was uh, kind of the
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: same as him seeing the people in the beginning, right
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: when he's a kid and seeing how they you know,
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: like massacred all these folks when they were just supposed
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: to be having a reading. Because this time I was like, oh,
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: is that supposed to say, like this kid is now
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: going to be the future one who's fighting for you know,
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: like freedom.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: That's that's what it was. But it felt like that
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: I'd never noticed that before.
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: It makes a ton of sense if that's what it was. Yeah,
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: that's awesome.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: That's a great scene though hard to watch, but a
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: great hard to watch.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Having the like the little people act that out beforehand
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: makes it so they don't have to show.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: It, but we absolutely know what they're doing. Smart too,
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: like the disemboling exact exactly. Yeah, honestly, I mean we
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: wouldn't have been able to watch that. No, it's too much. Yeah.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: What's funny about that, though, is I'm on the brink
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: of tears that whole scene. And then what fine and
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: what always has and it still did last night, What
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: finally pushes me over the edges is Brendan Gleason going,
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: william just saying, just say it. From then to the credits,
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: I'm from yes, Yes, and David O'Hara just closes his
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: eyes like that.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: So good, unbelievable. Yeah, absolutely, it's just incredible. And the music,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: the music in that So the score.
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: Of this movie is Banda's good.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: It's so great.
- 1:15:00Speaker 4: Yeah, like is as good as it gets outside of
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: the John Williams world.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: I mean yeah, yeah, you guys have said every scene
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: that I have, which is great. Oh god.
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: The only one we haven't said is the well I
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: guess we talked talked about it earlier with David O'Hara,
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: the introduction of the irishman.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: Ye come to that hunting scene, which is like kind
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: of the bait and switch. So good.
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: It's so well done and really great and even you know,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: like I always love a scene that even when you
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: know what's going to happen and you're rewatching it and
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: you're like, yeah, I can see why I thought that
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: was going to be that guy, Like they really they
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: really made us think that was what was happening.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: And it's just so good. And he's just such a kook.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: It's really fun. I love perfect scene so much.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: That was great, it's so so, so good. Yeah, I
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: had some more written down, but we've already talked about it.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Just Ralas avenching his wife's death in the very beginning. Yes, yes,
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: I mean I was.
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: I was thinking about other revenge movies like you know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: Man on Fire and things like that. I'm just like, God,
- 1:16:14Speaker 4: has there been a more just like I'm so I'm
- 1:16:17Speaker 4: so behind you to just yeah, f up this whole
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: crew right now.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: Let's go. When they killed John Wick's dog, yeah, yes,
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: I was ready for that, to kill every single one
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: of those people, every one of them. I had mentioned
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: it already, But when Wallace sees Robert the Bruce is
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: is completely betrayed. That scene is so nuts just for
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: the acting. Also loved before that when he's like, unite
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: the Clantons, you know, like that speech, like you can
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: do it. Another scene that I've always loved is when
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: long Shanks he can't speak anymore. Oh yeah, Sas is
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: whispering into his ear just like it's so bad ass?
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Is she insinuating that it's William Wallace's kid? Yes, okay,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: so oh yeah, yeah for sure. And he can't talk
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: about it because he's can't speak anymore, and just starts
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: wheezing real hard.
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: And I love this.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: He's telling him. I get that he gets disembowled, but
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: he gets to impregnant a lady and then go meet
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: his other lady on the other side.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: Not a terrible day for William other than the disemboweling,
- 1:17:41Speaker 3: not a great general torture, not a great A bad day.
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: It's pretty bad.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Okay, it's a pretty bad It's it's a bad day.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: The racking, racking. Well, you know this.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: I don't want to run into battle, let alone be tortured.
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: No, he's right, that's dude.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: That emblem would have had so many kiss marks on
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: it from my lips. Why why were you wearing so
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: much lips your execution?
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: It's yeah, look, because you wanted to look for best in.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: This guy's movie. I'll tell you that much.
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: The funny thing is those like every like every scene
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: is so great, Like even the fact that they have
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: the scene where where he says the will make spears. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: so long you know he does. And that's kind of
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: a throwaway, a little moment, and you forget about it
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: by the time all of a sudden it happens, you know,
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: like ship, Oh yeah, they talked about this, yeah, I
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: mean yeah, yeah, you know.
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: Can I say one more fun scene that I really like,
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: I forgot about when he comes back and Hamish is
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: like kind of like yeah yeah, like challenging his manhood
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: and he throws the rock and he's like, I should
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: remember the rock.
- 1:19:10Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, you should. It's so good. It's really good.
- 1:19:15Speaker 4: Also U seamous and his dad's death scene isak wonderful.
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: Yeah that one yeah, big time boo hoos.
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they're all so good, Like, I mean,
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: they're so good. Every Long Shanks scene, yeah, he's great.
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: The one where he throws the guy out the window
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: is one of the amazing.
- 1:19:43Speaker 4: Because you're also that's also one of those moments. He's
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: such a great villain. That's almost jokery.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: You're like.
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: At the window yet like the you know what Long
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: Shanks he's got there annoying sucks like window.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: I am trained in the oppos of flaw Fader. He's like, oh,
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: are you cool? Cool here? How neat are your thoughts on?
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: Are you training? That would have been a good life trained?
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: And they're like whoa. But you know, I just again,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: I always think it's a mark of a good villain
- 1:20:25Speaker 2: where I'm like, I love it, I love it everything.
- 1:20:28Speaker 3: I kind of like it.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but I also just love watching you. You're so good.
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, I love that well, very good.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: I think we all agreed on that big battle scene.
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: I just do things start to finish. It's like you
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: could you could tell someone what the whole movie is
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: about if you just showed them that like twenty minutes. Absolutely, yeah,
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: well it could be like a short film.
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: Hell yeah, let's talk about some of our favorite quotes.
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: Let's time to show me the mony, Penny say some quotes.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: You should go first.
- 1:21:11Speaker 2: I'm scared computer because the whole I mean so good.
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: I mean the the.
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: Ultimate obviously every man dies and every man really lives.
- 1:21:25Speaker 4: That was that was the poster, the poster.
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: Love it.
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: That's something with shoft remedy.
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: Like there's the things that like I said, like I
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: say that still like in life sometimes like like it
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: didn't work.
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: Well, that's something left to remedy, isn't it. Totally? I
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: love that you guys, go ahead, so definitely taking the
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: love you always you know where they rock a good
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: one of that is in basketball.
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: Yes, all right, it's so perfect.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: I love you, I always have, always half it's really good.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna wait for Benny to do the Sterling speech.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Hell yeah, agreed, Oh bro, I won't. No, I think
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: you will. I want you to. You have bled with Wallace,
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: no bleed with me? Yeah, pretty great, pretty great. The
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Almighty tells me you can get me out of this mess.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: But he's pretty sure you're okay. So he's pretty sure.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: And then his laugh after that is so good when
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: he's just like, it's such a goofy laugh.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: It's also I loved his I'm a most wanted man
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: on my island you mean Ireland.
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's mine, it's and then they bring it back
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: when he said I can't worry about the Irish.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: It's like I said, it's my Ireland, Ireland.
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, oh that's great.
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: I'm prettier than this man. Oh it's so good. Gott
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: Will Moss, I'm prettier than this man. Oh god, it's
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: so good. There's so many you can say, some bukes.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 1:23:34Speaker 3: When he goes, uh, they to like take her for
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: the horse ride or whatever, and her pants are like
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: are you.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Out to your mind? It's randomly they're.
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: Like the weather stair was like, oh, it's good Scottish weather, madam.
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: The rain is falling straight down, oh slightly to the
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: sidelike when he says that, I just really loved that,
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: and she's.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: Like, it's fine, it's barely raindom. It's so great. She
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: takes after you. It takes after you. Let's see. Oh
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: I love Oh go ahead, go ahead, No, no, you
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: I was just after he takes the arrow, the the
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: man who is the worst fighter in the whole army,
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: the dad. But come on, but he takes the arrow
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: and they're you know, they want to they want to
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: scour the wound or whatever. They're like, he just keeps people,
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: just keep handing it to the next person. They're like, here,
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: you can do it. I'll hold him down. And then
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: he's like, hands it to the you know, to chips,
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: and he's like, you do it. I'll hold him down,
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: and then he throws them.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: All off in like two seconds. It's great love. That
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: is William Wallace.
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Yes, I've heard he kills men by the hundreds. And
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: if you're here, consume the English with fireballs from his
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse.
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: It was like deadline.
- 1:24:58Speaker 7: William Wallace, and I see a whole atomy of in
- 1:25:05Speaker 7: defiance of tyranny. It's them to fight as free men,
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: and free men you.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: Are with that freedom.
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: What do you fight? I fight and you may die,
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: run and you'll live at least a while and doing
- 1:25:23Speaker 2: in your beds many years from now.
- 1:25:26Speaker 8: Would you be willing to train all the days from
- 1:25:28Speaker 8: this day to that for one chance, just one chance,
- 1:25:32Speaker 8: come back and tell our enemies that they may take
- 1:25:35Speaker 8: our lives, but they'll never take.
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: Hell. Yeah.
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the best ever. It's it's so it's like
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: the great I compare it. I'm like, I'm like, there's
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: like war speeches and sports speeches and movies.
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: They're kind of the same thing. It's like, it's just
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: right up there with the you know, it's as good
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: as it gets, agreed. I think they said was in
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: the top one hundred. Ever, at least in some bowl
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: one hundred. It was in the top one hundred of
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: all of cinema. There's lots of good ones, some good ones,
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: good ones. I don't remember what it was on the list,
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: but I know it was in the top.
- 1:26:31Speaker 4: I like, there's a difference between us. You think the
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: people of this country exist to provide you with position.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: I think your position exists to provide those people with freedom.
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: I love that. You know, maybe maybe applies today to
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: certain countries. You know, maybe I don't know.
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: Not a political podcast.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: But I'm just saying, oh, no, we're hard right now.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: You didn't hear oh copy that?
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Well, then it does not apply hard right.
- 1:27:02Speaker 4: I also loved when he is like, uh, what does
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: he say at the one point personal escort of the princess?
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: I must have made an infection. I didn't think you
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: were in the tenth that long? Yeah, I love that.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: That's pretty great Brandon, just being oh that came vain
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: the some men are longer than others. Your mother been
- 1:27:31Speaker 2: telling you stories about that is pretty great. That's pretty great.
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: We should still say sometimes at work, will be like,
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: I have something with you, do something really well, We'll.
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: Go send new to the victory.
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: Shall we retire?
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: Yes? Yes, that's great.
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: Shall we retire?
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: I was I loved the one where he was like
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: to find himself an equal and irishman must have forced
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: to talk with God.
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean literally every single thing.
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: He says, yeah in the in the movie, I also
- 1:28:11Speaker 5: do that. I still also do that.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: After after he goes and your father sees you too,
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: and he punches them. Yeah, and then that Steven just
- 1:28:19Speaker 2: goes to himself.
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: He goes Jesus, Like Jesus, every single thing out of
- 1:28:29Speaker 4: his mouth is his gold.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: God, he's so good.
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: He has like he has like a page of dialogue
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: in this movie, and he just absolutely crushes perfect.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: God, it's perfect. I can remember seeing this movie with
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: my dad and this was I guess I was young
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: enough that I didn't know what she was referencing. But
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: they're talking in French and she says englishmen don't know
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: what a tongue is for. And I remember my dad saying, oh,
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: she's not, And I was like, I don't know what
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: do you mean you mean, I don't follow. Oh that's it, Fred,
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: you beautiful son of a bitch. That's what I was
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: gonna say. That's it.
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: That's a movie thing that I always loved when when
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: someone speaks another language and then our hero just knows
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: the language and knows what he said.
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: So anytime, anytime that happens in the movie, I'm like, ah.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, our hero smart.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Uh my last one that I wrote down, But I
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: just love it's way at the beginning the little kid
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: when he's like I can fight, and he's like, I know,
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: I know you can fight, but it's our wits that
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: make us men.
- 1:29:51Speaker 2: And I love that line and we already we already
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: talked about it. But literally everything that Brian coxs pipes
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: that you said earlier is so good. I'm just trying. Yeah,
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: and I know you said it.
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: But first learn to use this. Yeah, I'll teach how
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: to use this.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: God, it's like three lines and you're just and again,
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: we don't need any we don't need a growing up montage.
- 1:30:22Speaker 2: We don't need anything ready, we need a montage. I
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: mean so many people would have done that, and I'm
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: just like, we need it. It's so good. We do
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: get some running through Scotland montages in this though, so
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: that's fun, really cool shots though. It's worth item so beautiful, man,
- 1:30:42Speaker 2: I mean, the.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Sematography is outstanding. There are some crazy show you know.
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: The one, the one I think that's been copied to
- 1:30:49Speaker 4: is is when they're just getting going and then the
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: English guys are one of them gets hit on the
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: head with a rock and then there's that big ridge
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: come up over the line like that's been done now
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: since then and it.
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: Looks so amazing to just appear on the up on
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: the ridge. Really fun.
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: There's so many incredible shots.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: My god, the the hand, the hand dropping, the the
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: from from the cross. Yeah, that's such a that's such
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: an oscar shot. It really is beautiful.
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: Grace is that they do. He jams the sword in
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: the ground after sterling, and.
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Then that ends up being the final the final shot.
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: And throwing the sword at the end when I'm just
- 1:31:52Speaker 4: when I'm fully weeping, and then and then them slow.
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: Towards the camera.
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Scotsman had
- 1:32:05Speaker 4: won their freedoms. I mean that warrior Poets is one
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: of the greatest lines that. Yeah, good god, crying.
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: To the movie. Yeah, well, speaking of crying, is it
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: time to go into the Bieks' boo who moments? I think,
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: I think that's a good good job.
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: We don't even have we don't even have times.
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: I did I picked a Leavin Oh yeah, okay, okay,
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: healthy and a lot of them.
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: It was going to be double digits.
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of them are really early, so I'm
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: not sure, so we'll double check here. When young William
- 1:32:45Speaker 2: Wallace sees all of those dudes hanged, yeah for sure. Yeah,
- 1:32:50Speaker 2: that was a lot, a lot. Then when his dad dies,
- 1:32:55Speaker 2: of course, uh, the little girl slash his future wife
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: giving him the flower at the funeral, beautiful love it.
- 1:33:05Speaker 2: When the bride of Tommy flan again goes with the
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: English guy on the night of their wedding. Yes, that
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: was intense. So that whole idea is terrible brutal. Yeah,
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: I love you always have. Yeah, I love you always have.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: When he kisses his wife then before she's buried, so
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: I guess. Yeah, it was so shocking. If you actually
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: cried during the the death scene or not, that's funny.
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: It's too shocking.
- 1:33:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: Again, it's it's not because they don't make it cinematic.
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: They make it so real.
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's so shocking.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: Because it's not.
- 1:33:59Speaker 3: It's like at that funeral where he kisses her and
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: then he like kneels before the parents and the dad
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: like wants to hit him, but he's just like, yeah,
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: you know, like all the things.
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: That's so great. Then I think some movie it's a
- 1:34:15Speaker 2: long time until the next cry, which is when Wallace
- 1:34:19Speaker 2: sees that Robert the Bruce has betrayed him. Oh okay, yes,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: that did get me. Yes, okay, I must have been
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: missed something. When Brendan Gleeson is with his dying dad
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: and says, you know, I'm a happy man. I'm proud
- 1:34:36Speaker 2: of the man you've become.
- 1:34:38Speaker 6: Lord.
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: Yes, when she when she tells him to take the
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: drink to dull his pain, and he explains, yeah, yeah,
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: he needs to keep his wits from there to the
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: rest of the film pretty much. So then I said
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: the execution and which we didn't even say.
- 1:35:02Speaker 6: But we talk about you're right but yes, free and
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: then dumb it should be a little dumb, but it's wonderful.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: It's not. It's just incredible. I do agree that the
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: like most heartbreaking moment of that is just say the word,
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: just say you know, just like uh yeah, I know
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: those because yeah, it was so much. But then the
- 1:35:32Speaker 2: last one is you bled with Wallace, now bleed with me?
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: Hell yeah, oh hell yeah. Until the credits, Yeah, until
- 1:35:41Speaker 2: there are two more that we didn't say two more more.
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: It's not the you have more two more? Yep. Wait,
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: so is it.
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: Is it outlawed outlawed tunes without a loud pipes or
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: does that count as fathers?
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: I kind of count of that with the brother and
- 1:36:02Speaker 3: dad part. I think because they're pretty they're pretty quick
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: in succession. Yeah, I will say, so you have to
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: One of them is hype tears for sure.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: Oh so a battle, Oh I get that. I get that. Yeah,
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: Oh arguably maybe both are. It's gonna be the Sterling
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: battle then yeah, well wait wait is it the speech?
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: The Sterling speech? The speech they'll.
- 1:36:30Speaker 3: Take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom.
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: That's for sure.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: One more before that, and I think it's when they're
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: maybe parlaying before that, but when he goes back and
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: he's like, you go.
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: Back and tell them blah blah blah, you tell them
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: Scotland is free. And he's just like, oh, you know,
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: like when first I think that's when she first he
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: was talking to it's that one and it's like, no,
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: you can go back and tell him this, yeah.
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: Because he's just so like fiery in that moment.
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: I really liked that too.
- 1:37:05Speaker 9: Yeah, he's like slaves are made like yes, yes, yeah,
- 1:37:09Speaker 9: yeah that scene. Yeah, so yeah, thirteen I think is
- 1:37:13Speaker 9: what we ended with thirteen thirteen thirteen. That's honestly the
- 1:37:17Speaker 9: most in a long time.
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: That's fine, my my. I was thinking about it.
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: I was like, my over under probably would have been
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: like ten. Oral up, yeah, it would have been my like, yeah,
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: thirteen seems reason under where.
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: We at because it was like a three hour movie.
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: I mean also, it's a three hour movie.
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, but uh, it's no Lord of the Rings.
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: But what is truly?
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: What is? What is? There's been another, not twenty more,
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: it's not. But but what's amazing is is that it
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: didn't require three movies. It yeah, it does.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: It does all this in one movie, which I'm with
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: you on Lord of the Rings, but you know, it's
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: it's amazing that they did this and in one.
- 1:37:59Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty wild.
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: Let's go do some movie Trurivia trivia, let's see. Mel
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: Gibson initially turned down the role of William Ross, feeling
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: that he was too old for the part. He was
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: thirty eight at the.
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: Time, while the real William Walls died at thirty five,
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: but Paramount Pictures said they would only film finance the
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: film if he starred in it, so he finally agreed
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: that's kind of crazy.
- 1:38:25Speaker 2: Sorry, he was thirty eight, and he didn't want to
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: do it because the real William Walls just died at
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: thirty five.
- 1:38:32Speaker 3: Well, he died at thirty five, which means he was like,
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: you know, fighting, probably a.
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: Decade younger than thirty eight. We got like thirty year
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: olds playing high school kids. Ridiculous.
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: Yeah, so I would assume everyone back then looked about
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: twenty years older than they actually were.
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: Probably, yeah, probably, let's see. In a two thousand and
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: nine interview with The Daily Mail, Gibson admitted that the
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: film was heavily fictitious, but claimed that they had all
- 1:39:04Speaker 3: been The changes had been made for dramatic effect, and
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: again he said that he just felt like he was
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: a little bit too old to play him. But I
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: thought that was interesting.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: I thought this was fun.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: On set, one of the film's weary extras reportedly mistook
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: one of Mel Gibson's own children on set for an
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: Errand boy and asked him to bring him a cup
- 1:39:26Speaker 3: of tea. And Gibson was within earshot, and he just
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: nodded and whispered to his son go get it for him.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: So I thought that was kind of sweet.
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: Errand boy, he thought he was like someone just run
- 1:39:39Speaker 2: around like a child laborer. Well it was Gibson's picture
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: you that that's true. I don't know. Everyone gets their
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: own Everyone gets their own child assistant.
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: Don't worry, no worry, said young Charles out no worries,
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: uh Mel. Gibson later so many jokes that are inappropriate.
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: Regarding this film.
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: Gibson later said, some people said in the telling of
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: the story, we messed up history. But it doesn't bother
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: me because I'm giving you a cinematic experience. He thinks
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: that films are there first to entertain, then teach that inspire,
- 1:40:20Speaker 3: And I.
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: Was like, yeah, go seem it's fine.
- 1:40:22Speaker 5: I completely agree with that.
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: I have no issue with that, honestly, you know, especially when,
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: like you said, they're not saying it's like totally true
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: right off the bat.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: And even even when they do say that they they
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: take a lot of liberties. And also like the whole
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: idea is based on a true story. It's like, yes,
- 1:40:42Speaker 4: we're taking some liberties. Like I hate when people get
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: mad about that kind of stuff. I'm like, we're watching
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: a movie, Like Robby just said, go watch a documentary.
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: Make a doc like this is you know it's based,
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: it's based, yes.
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: But say, I've heard this one is is wildly inaccurate, right, wildly,
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: like I've heard like like everything about it is is
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: pretty inaccurate. But yeah, well and I've heard I always
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: heard that Robert the Bruce was pretty revered.
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: Yes, so they didn't love that portrayal, apparently, the Scottish folks. Yeah, right,
- 1:41:22Speaker 4: but to be fair, you know, as we know history,
- 1:41:25Speaker 4: what does that even mean? I mean, you know, who's
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: to know what's really real? Like, I mean, the truth
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: is most everyone is bastards and cool to some.
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: People at some point in their life, right, pretty much?
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: Of course, I thought this was fun. Wallace's two most
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: trusted captains throughout the films are Hamish, who is Scottish,
- 1:41:44Speaker 3: and Steven, who is Irish. But Hamish was played by
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: an Irish actor Brendan Gleeson, and Stephen by a Scottish actor,
- 1:41:51Speaker 3: David O'Hara, So that's just kind of a fun. It's
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: fun swapsy uh. Up to sixteen hundred extras were used
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: for the Battles Means, which is nuts cool, and most
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: were members of the f c A, the Reserve Irish
- 1:42:08Speaker 3: Army different companies usually come from the same area, and
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: apparently rivalries are coming within this so apparently some of
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: the battle scenes they say are far more realistic than
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: originally intended, with rival companies trying to beat the lard
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: out of each other.
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: So that was not those guys we saw that were
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: just like they were those guys. Those guys just came
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: for free, free lunch.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: Absolutely, we get a sandwich, I'm in. And the reason
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: that the Reserve Irish Army was in it was most
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: of this film was filmed in Ireland, actually not Scotland,
- 1:42:48Speaker 3: so that was interesting. But the Battle of Sterling in
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: the film is a it's a historic fact that this
- 1:42:56Speaker 3: battle happened, but in reality it was a battle of
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: the Starling Bridge and the Scottish Army lured the English
- 1:43:04Speaker 3: onto the field that was largely enclosed by the River
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: Forth and it was only accessible from us from the
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: south by a small bridge that barely allowed you know,
- 1:43:14Speaker 3: two horses walking side by side. They hid around the
- 1:43:17Speaker 3: northern bank until a bunch of them had crossed over
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: the English army and then they attacked and so then
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: they had the jump on them and they couldn't retreat
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: and all these things, and apparently one of the a local,
- 1:43:30Speaker 3: asked mel Gibson why the Battle of Sterling Bridge was
- 1:43:34Speaker 3: filmed on an open plane, and apparently mel Gibson replied with,
- 1:43:39Speaker 3: well the bridge got in the way, and all the
- 1:43:41Speaker 3: local said was I that's what the English found, which
- 1:43:45Speaker 3: I thought was a pretty good response, like, yeah, they
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: felt that way too, which is funny.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: That was cute. What else we got?
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: Mel Gibson was investigated by the animal welfare organization because
- 1:43:59Speaker 3: they were convince that the fake horses used were real.
- 1:44:02Speaker 3: Only when Gibson's one of his assistants, provided videotaped footage
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: of the location shooting were they convinced otherwise. And in fact,
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: the mechanical horses designed for the battle sequences weighed two
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: hundred pounds and were fueled by nitrogen cylinders, propelling them
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: at thirty miles an hour on twenty foot tracks.
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I would love to see behind the scenes, which
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: saying when they hit with the spears.
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, probably the scenes for sure. Crazy I thought
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: about that time.
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: How they did this?
- 1:44:35Speaker 3: Yeah, really interesting, but they did a good job, I guess,
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: which is cool.
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: Oh, this was fun.
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: Meil Gibson was on the set of Ransom when Braveheart
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: and A Paull thirteen were both nominated for Best Picture,
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: and he pulled a prank on A Pall thirteen director
- 1:44:52Speaker 3: Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer by giving them an
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: ad that claimed that Braveheart was actually considered for Best
- 1:45:00Speaker 3: Moonshot and then it had a picture of it that
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: it showed the Scottish Army mooning the English that that
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: was just pretty funny. That's a great it's a good job.
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: That's a great job for sure.
- 1:45:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45:12Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: The worst they spent several months filming all the battle scenes.
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: The worst injuries suffered on set was a broken nose,
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: which is actually pretty remarkable.
- 1:45:22Speaker 2: That is very remarkable. We didn't even really talk about
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: how intense the battle scenes were and how grad they're nuts,
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: And I remember at the time just being like, oh
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: my god, like it was horrifying. At the time.
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: I always remember that one shot with the pick axe
- 1:45:43Speaker 3: the helmet, and then it's like, yes, crazy.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: I should have brought that up.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: When I was talking about Oh, I thought it kind
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: of started the contemporary.
- 1:45:53Speaker 5: Sort of war.
- 1:45:55Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good call.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: Movie, because I mean, it really was the first time
- 1:45:58Speaker 4: we saw that kind of razy graphic violence, so brutal.
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: Yes, that setting, I guess his hand getting chopped off
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: and like tons get limbs.
- 1:46:11Speaker 4: Yeah, totally, yeah, And they do such a good job
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: of making it so fast and furious that you just
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: like see it and then it's on to the next thing.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: It's just so you know.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: I think about then Stielberg a few years later doing
- 1:46:27Speaker 4: Saving Private Ryan, and I'm sure he was like, Okay,
- 1:46:29Speaker 4: I see we.
- 1:46:30Speaker 2: Can, yeah, we can up, we can really, we can
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: really get in it here, like and they did, did
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: he And they did?
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: Yeah, no kidding, we said this earlier. But the sequence
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: when Hamish throws Wallace's sword into the air and the
- 1:46:45Speaker 3: last battle you know, which ended up being kind of
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: the last shot that was improvised that was not originally
- 1:46:51Speaker 3: written into the script, which is pretty cool, but apparently.
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: Sometimes they don't believe those kind of things like that.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: That's a big.
- 1:47:01Speaker 5: Choice to make it is.
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: This line.
- 1:47:07Speaker 3: I think Also, just because it wasn't scripted doesn't mean
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: they like he did it once when it wasn't scripted,
- 1:47:14Speaker 3: and then they went back and like really beat by
- 1:47:17Speaker 3: beat figured out how to shoot it all that right, probably.
- 1:47:20Speaker 2: But also yeah.
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: But also the reason I don't really buy that is
- 1:47:23Speaker 4: that Wallace jams the sword in at the end of
- 1:47:27Speaker 4: the Sterling battle.
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: True. Yeah, that's true.
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: The sword the sword landing is the final shot of
- 1:47:34Speaker 4: the movie. I'm like, there's just like to me, I'm like,
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: there's no way that wasn't planned that we're gonna we're
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: gonna bring back this shot unless they filmed Maybe it wasn't.
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: Maybe it wasn't that he was gonna throw it, but.
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Maybe it was filmed out of sequence.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: I don't maybe that's why, and so they were like, maybe,
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: well you did throw that and that was badass, so
- 1:47:54Speaker 3: maybe we have him do that.
- 1:47:56Speaker 2: But yeah, that was the sword ending is a separate
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: shot of him. Yeah.
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good point. I'm kind of with you,
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: you know, it seems a little like, well, but it's
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: fun to think.
- 1:48:09Speaker 4: About sometimes sometimes when they say things are improv I'm like,
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: when it's like an essential part of the story, I'm.
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: Like me, yeah, yeah, yeah again, but you're right, it
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: could have been out of sequence. Who knows. Yeah.
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: Uh, apparently Gibson really hanged himself for a moment during
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: the death scene, like they went a little too long
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: a little too hard apparently, and he had to be
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: cut down. And he says, all I remember is waking
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: up with a lot of people standing over me. So
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: maybe that led to him future actions.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: Who knows. He was depleted of oxygen for a while,
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: perhaps perhaps brain damage. But that's intense.
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and the every man dies, not every man really lives.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: The famous quote is attributed to Braveheart character, but it
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: was actually authored by the nineteenth century American poet William
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: Ross Wallace, famous for writing the poem The Hand that
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: Rocks the Cradle is the Hand that rules the world.
- 1:49:18Speaker 2: And apparently he.
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: Has no relation to William Wallace. Isn't that strange? I
- 1:49:24Speaker 3: was just like, it's a weird fact. Yeah, that's very weird,
- 1:49:29Speaker 3: very interesting. There was a lot of trivia, but that
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: was all I had.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I had a few things. Just Sean Connery turned
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: down the role of King Edward the first because he
- 1:49:41Speaker 2: was filming just cause.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: But also Sean Connery only ever spoken a Scottish accent,
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: so that would have been interesting.
- 1:49:48Speaker 4: We're going to say, you have a Scottish guy who
- 1:49:50Speaker 4: only speaks in Scottish beat.
- 1:49:53Speaker 5: Yeah, so Conry could never have been that evil.
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: No way. Yeah, it would have been weird for sure.
- 1:50:00Speaker 2: Gibson wanted Jason Patrick to play William Wallace initially. Do
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: I know Jason Patrick, He did the Speed two sequel,
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: he did Sleepers. They wanted he wanted him to do
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: it when he wasn't gonna be playing him initially, Mel Gibson,
- 1:50:23Speaker 2: So was he always going to direct me?
- 1:50:26Speaker 5: Tad direct and then and then didn't want he will
- 1:50:29Speaker 5: finance it?
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they wouldn't finance it without him as the lead role. Yeah,
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: I wouldn't either. That's ridiculous, bro, especially at that point.
- 1:50:42Speaker 4: Like also they I would have been like, we just
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: watched Kevin Costner do this like four years ago, well
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: when they shot it, probably three years ago, Like we
- 1:50:53Speaker 4: just watched Kevin Passon do this?
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: Why would you not do this? Interesting?
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: You Like, it's crazy that he wouldn't just do it,
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: right a man? Yeah, I appreciate that he was trying to,
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: you know, whatever, but come on, man.
- 1:51:13Speaker 2: Another thing that I found interesting, And I don't know
- 1:51:15Speaker 2: how true this is, but it says he turned down
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: James Bond and Gold and I due to commit commitments
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: with this film. So they're saying that he was going
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: to be a Bond not an English person do that.
- 1:51:33Speaker 2: I don't know. It seems crazy the like he would
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: have done it instead of Pierce Brosna. They're saying that
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: he turned it down. So that does that timeline work out?
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: When was Golden Eye around this time? Same time? Yeah,
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: that was crazy. That would be a way different take
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: on Bond. I guess which they ended up doing. But yeah,
- 1:52:05Speaker 2: And one thing that I just thought was interesting is
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: that Randa Wallace would soon become a father for the
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: first time. So in order to be able to tell
- 1:52:13Speaker 2: his children about their heritage, one day he started to
- 1:52:15Speaker 2: learn about his family history. He traced their origins back
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: to Edinburgh, and during a visit there in eighty three,
- 1:52:22Speaker 2: he came across the statue of William Wallace outside of
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: Edinburgh Castle. He had never heard of the fourteenth century
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: figure shared his name, but was intrigued enough by the
- 1:52:30Speaker 2: stories told to him about Scotland's greatest hero to research
- 1:52:33Speaker 2: the story as much as possible, which eventually led him
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: to writing the scripts for the movie. Interesting was like
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: hit Randall, Yeah the same Yeah, so that seems weird,
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: but they didn't say if he actually was related. But
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: I just thought that was kind of interesting. What did
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: you What were the other movies?
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: You said?
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: Then he did Randa Wallace, he wrecked it and wrote
- 1:53:01Speaker 2: The Man in the Iron Mask ye, which is great
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: for the other ones. Yeah, Secretariat I think was one
- 1:53:10Speaker 2: of them. Oh and we were Soldiers with mel Gibson, Yeah,
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: with me, which also was a pretty s solid, solid
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: war movie. That was all I have though for Trivia Nice.
- 1:53:24Speaker 2: Do you have anything else, Benny? No, No, I didn't.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 1:53:28Speaker 5: I didn't have time.
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: No, you're good man. Will there be a sequel Judgment Day? Yes? Absolutely? Yes?
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: Which one I think the I think Hollywood is pining
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: for mel Gibson to reprised his role as a ghost.
- 1:53:48Speaker 4: I think this is I think this is a hard
- 1:53:50Speaker 4: no hard.
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: Maybe. But in twenty nineteen, Angus mcphadon, who played Robert
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: the Bruce, made a film called Robert the Bruce Fun.
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: Yeah, he played him again.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: He played him again. That's cool really? Yeah, like married
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: Harris was in it and none of us have heard
- 1:54:13Speaker 2: of it though. Yeah. Interesting right, clearly that did not
- 1:54:17Speaker 2: get a US release in any way. Not sure. I
- 1:54:22Speaker 2: do love some Jared, I do love some Jared Harris.
- 1:54:24Speaker 2: So that's legit.
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: Yeah, dude, I was kind of hoping they were going
- 1:54:29Speaker 4: to cast him as Dumbledore.
- 1:54:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that would have been great in the h In
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: the HBO been really fun, right, Yeah, I don't really
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: know any other. Oh, Patrick, fugit isn't it. That's weird,
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: you said, Jared Harris, Right, yeah, yeah, he's great. It
- 1:54:53Speaker 2: doesn't say how many. Yeah, five thousand people that rated
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: it on IMDb, which is never not a great grand
- 1:55:01Speaker 2: sign for the audience.
- 1:55:03Speaker 4: I only said that about Dumbledore because his father played
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: Dumbledore originally and then he died and ruined everything because
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: I hate Michael Gammon.
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: You hate him. I hate him so much.
- 1:55:17Speaker 2: He did suck to be fair and so great. But hey,
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: guess what now we get our guy Live the Gal.
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, mister list Gal, who will never disappoint anyone
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: in anything.
- 1:55:31Speaker 2: So no, yeah, he's old scared.
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: He's just so scared.
- 1:55:37Speaker 2: Well, speaking of all these actors' names, you guys want
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: to play a game? My god? Yeah, Well, I made
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: a starting five for you guys, and you know how
- 1:55:45Speaker 2: this works. I'm going to name five actors from a film.
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: When you know the film, you're going to ring in
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: with your name if you get it wrong, there's no
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: negative points, but you won't be able to guess again
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: for that movie. If there are actors' names remaining, you
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: can guess those for a point each. The other person
- 1:56:00Speaker 2: can steal if you get any of those names wrong.
- 1:56:03Speaker 2: And all of these films have something in common. When
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: you know the theme, you can ring in at any
- 1:56:07Speaker 2: time for a point.
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Robbie, Just so you know, I feel my
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: voice is a little delayed, so I'm gonna also use
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: my hand.
