- 1:00Speaker 1: We all welcome this week's show. Today we are actually
- 1:03we're gonna get in one of my favorite topics. Actually,
- 1:06you know, sacramentals are really unique to the Catholic Church,
- 1:12well the Orthodox as well, but mainly to the Catholic Church. Okay,
- 1:15somewhat for the Anglicans, but I'm not gonna go into
- 1:21why theirs don't count. Ours count and they count big time.
- 1:26And it's one of the really most interesting aspects of
- 1:31being Catholic that you know, you actually get to like
- 1:35hold a relic from a saint. I mean it used
- 1:39holy water. I mean, this is you know, this is
- 1:43one of those things that makes us very much Catholic
- 1:46and not Protestant. And Protestants don't understand it. They think
- 1:51it's like voodoo or something. I'm gonna get into this.
- 1:54We're gonna talk fos Baraga is gonna tell us every
- 1:56reason why, just as it says in the Bible that
- 2:02the bones of the prophet touched the dead man and
- 2:06roads to life, just as it says and acts at
- 2:08the handkerchiefs, the cloths that were held by the apostles
- 2:12Saint Peter and sutch were taken, and when people touch them,
- 2:15when they were healed. Sacramentals are just as valid today
- 2:19as they were two thousand or ten thousand years ago.
- 2:23I mean, yeah, we're going to get into it, okay,
- 2:28But first we will continue on our subject from last
- 2:32week from radio replies the person is just asking the
- 2:37priest or criticizing, challenging the priest. We'll go with that
- 2:41over the sacrament of confession. And the person says, confession
- 2:45is like washing a child and letting it play again
- 2:48in the mud. And they answer, it is not. The
- 2:51Church washes the child and forbids it to play in
- 2:53the mud again. But if it does play in the
- 2:56mud again in spite of the prohibition, of course she
- 2:58is prepared to wash it again if it be truly sorry,
- 3:01as any true mother would do. If readiness to forgive
- 3:06sins is to be the cause of further sins, what
- 3:09would you say to God who declares that if a
- 3:11man's sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white
- 3:13as snow, provided he repent. And the person continues, even
- 3:18though the Church forbids it, I know a Catholic who
- 3:21does confess and sin again. And they answer, he does
- 3:25not sin again because of his confession, nor does his
- 3:28fail say that he was not truly repented when he confessed.
- 3:32Christ said something about forgiving seventy times seven? How often
- 3:35would you forgive? And isn't it better to try and
- 3:38fail through weakness, repent and repent than to abandon all
- 3:44efforts to turn to God's grace? A person says, but
- 3:48if confession does not stop sins, what is the good
- 3:51of it? I'm the answer. Confession is an immense help
- 3:55in the prevention of further sin. Remember that Christ did
- 3:58not institute this sacrament precisely to prevent further sin, but
- 4:02to forgive sin once it has been unhappily committed. To
- 4:06prevent sin, there are other sacraments and other means, such
- 4:09as good example, religious instruction, prayer, and the grace of God.
- 4:13But if in spite of these helps, a man fails
- 4:16through strong temptation, as anyone is likely to do, it
- 4:20is a very great good that his sin can be forgiven.
- 4:24Person asks or states, it is easy to confess to
- 4:27a fellow man and get forgiveness, but it is not
- 4:30so convenient to remain in humble doubt. And they answer
- 4:34the humiliation of confession is an inconvenience not found in Protestantism,
- 4:40and from that point of view, Protestantism is easier. On
- 4:44the other hand, Christ was too merciful to leave us
- 4:47without some divine assurance of forgiveness, and he gave us
- 4:50a very definite sacrament to alleviate anxiety. He says, did
- 4:56not presinvent confession or to obtain money required for abbs.
- 5:01You will be amazed how many Protestants truly believe that
- 5:07when a Catholic goes to confession, we have to pay
- 5:10the priest for forgiveness. It's absolutely not true. It's actually
- 5:16forbidden by the Church, but they believe it. They swear
- 5:19to it. My own father disown me for being Catholic,
- 5:25and that was one of his reasons. Moving along, wherehere
- 5:32do I leave off? Okay, no money has ever paid
- 5:35for absolution. If absolution cannot be given, ten thousand dollars
- 5:39would not obtain it. If it can be given, it
- 5:42cannot be refused, and it would be a moral sin
- 5:45on the part of any priest to suggest payment for it. Moreover,
- 5:49if any man came to me and offered to purchase
- 5:52forgiveness for me, I would tell him that he was
- 5:54suggesting a morally sinful procedure and send him away with
- 5:58his money and without absolution, unless he retracted his ideas
- 6:03and repented of his sin. In that case, I would
- 6:07resolve him, absolve him. I mean to say, I would
- 6:09absolve him without, of course, touching a penny of his money. Meantime,
- 6:13no priests would be so foolish as to invent confession.
- 6:16Priests would gladly be free from the burdensome duty of
- 6:19sitting for hours in the confessional. Had Christ not imposed it,
- 6:23the priests could prove confession unnecessary, they would be the
- 6:28first to demand its absolution. Person asks, do not priests
- 6:32use the confessional to obtain all domestic and state secrets?
- 6:37And they say no. Catholics tell their own sins only
- 6:40the priest finds it hard enough to listen patiently to
- 6:42that much without wishing to hear all household secrets. Nor
- 6:46will nor will he allow penitence to speak of other
- 6:51people's misdeeds. In any case, no priests can make use
- 6:55of knowledge acquired while hearing confession. One of the strictest
- 6:59laws of the church ob obliges him never to betray
- 7:02what he hears in the confessional. Person asked, did not
- 7:06the latter. In Council in twelve fifteen first oblige auricular
- 7:11confession that means spoken out loud, they say no, It
- 7:15decreed that Catholics must go to confession at least once
- 7:18a year, merely specifying how often one must go the
- 7:22idea of our recular confession. If the idea of auricular
- 7:29confession were introduced for the first time and Christians were
- 7:32not used to it, there would have been an uproar
- 7:34of protests throughout the whole church. But all Christians were
- 7:37perfectly familiar with our recular confection, and no protest arose.
- 7:44We'll leave it there for now. There's gonna be a
- 7:46lot more question to answer about confession, all right, let's
- 7:52get on too. Sacramentals one of my favorite topics. As
- 7:57I said, I love my rosary and my actless metal
- 8:00and my scapular, the Holy water and this stuff. You know,
- 8:06I didn't grow up with as a Protestant. Protestants are
- 8:11so poor in terms of religious expression. You know, they'll
- 8:19hang an empty cross on the wall and that's cool,
- 8:22you know, but the cross was a deviceive torture even
- 8:27after Jesus' resurrection. I mean, you know, mostly several of
- 8:31the Apostles were crucified. Many early Christians were crucified. It's
- 8:35like putting an electric chair on the wall. It's the
- 8:39crucifix with Jesus hanging on the cross that makes that
- 8:43cross important. And when a priest blesses it, it brings
- 8:48us blessings into our home. A Protestant may put a
- 8:53Bible verse on the wall, that's fine. They never will
- 8:58consider that a graven image. Well, the graving comes from
- 9:04the word Latin, and maybe it's the same word from
- 9:07which we get in grave. And you engrave letters upon
- 9:13a page or a stone like a tombstone or an
- 9:16important document, that's engraving, or you can engrave to make
- 9:22a picture. That Bible verse hanging on their wall is
- 9:28no more or less a graven image than the sacred
- 9:32Heart of Jesus on your wall or the blessed Virgin Mary.
- 9:37They say, well, that's the word of God, and you
- 9:39can say, yes, it is absolutely and that's wonderful. And
- 9:45here's an image of God, Jesus Christ we got from
- 9:49save Veronica's cloth, or from the shroud of Tchuran. Here's
- 9:52an image of his mother and his foster father and
- 9:55his Holy Apostles and his friends throughout the ages known
- 10:00as the Saints, and we keep them near as reminders.
- 10:03And you know, they inspire us, just as does averse
- 10:08from the Bible. And you know, maybe you can get
- 10:12that across. Maybe not hopefully again anyway, So let's see
- 10:20what Father Sparrago says. Sacramentals are rights which have some
- 10:24outward resemblance of the sacraments instituted by Christ, but are
- 10:28not of divine institution. The name applies both to the
- 10:31blessing or consecration given by the Church and to the
- 10:34objects blessed or consecrated. Our Lord gave the apostles power
- 10:39over unclean spirits to cast them out, and he'll all manners,
- 10:43manner of diseases Matthew ten one. The Church makes use
- 10:48of this power. Oh, let me get some water. Here,
- 10:54here we go. The Church makes use of this power,
- 10:59and by her by means of her ministers, she blesses
- 11:02or consecrates certain objects, praying that God would render these
- 11:06objects efficacious in banishing evil spirits and healing sicknesses. That
- 11:11is to say, the priest implores the blessing of God
- 11:15the Father for the averting of evils both corporal and spiritual.
- 11:20At the same time, he makes use of visible signs
- 11:23such as the sign of the cross, holy water, sacred oils,
- 11:25et cetera. Are light kindled to signify the savior, the
- 11:29light of the world. Incense is often used to indicate
- 11:32the sacramentals must be employed into its soften use to
- 11:37indicate the sacramentals must be employed with pious dispositions. Sacramentals
- 11:42are called by this name because of their resemblance to
- 11:45a sacrament. In both, there is a sign and form
- 11:49of words which possess a supernatural power and represent the
- 11:53invisible grace. But the sacraments have incomparably more power than
- 11:59the income parably comparably I don't know. Then the sacramentals
- 12:04the latter are not necessary to starvation, whereas the former are.
- 12:09Sacramentals are means of grace at the second class. The
- 12:13blessings consist in this that the minister of the church
- 12:15invokes the divine benediction upon certain persons or things. The
- 12:19divine blessing is quite distinct from divine grace. The latter
- 12:23has the effect of beautifying the soul the former of
- 12:27verts earthly ills and promotes temporal welfare. Thus, objects are
- 12:31only blessed for the sake of the person who uses them,
- 12:34or on whose behalf they are used. The following are
- 12:37the benedictions which are customarily conferred on persons. The blessing
- 12:40at the communion at the conclusion of Mass, the blessing
- 12:44given to communicants, the nuptial benediction, the benediction after childbirth,
- 12:48the last blessing, and the blessing of remains the departed.
- 12:53It is usual for women after childbirth to go to
- 12:55the church, implore the blessing of God upon their child,
- 12:59and to receive the ben addiction of the priest. This
- 13:01custom was observed in the Old Testament. Every mother had
- 13:04to present herself in the temple with her forty days
- 13:07after its birth, and if it was a boy, if
- 13:09it was a boy, in eighty if it was a girl.
- 13:11The Mother of God herself conformed to this rule, as
- 13:14we just commemorate a few days ago. Exorcism belongs also
- 13:20to the blessing conferred on persons. It consists in commanding
- 13:25the devil to depart in the name of Christ for
- 13:27possessed persons or things. The evil effects of original sin
- 13:31rest on every creature. Romans eight and upon the whole
- 13:34of inanimate nature Genesis three seventeen. That's right, that's something
- 13:40Protestants don't understand. I don't think most Catholics understand. The
- 13:44world fell with Adam and Eve. Every inanimate rocks, stars, trees,
- 13:54Everything has a spiritual nature to it because made by God.
- 14:02And everything is the world, the entire world, everything on it,
- 14:06everything in existence. The entire universe is under the curse
- 14:10of original sin due to the first sin of our parents,
- 14:15and everything will redeem. The Bible says that the entire
- 14:19universe will rejoice. We're talking inanimate objects when the final
- 14:26battle between good and evil is over and Jesus comes
- 14:28at the end of time and redeems all of creation.
- 14:33We have no idea how that will happen. That is
- 14:38not even in our human ability to understand. Well, how
- 14:42will water rejoice? How will stone rejoice? But the Bible
- 14:45says it will, and we believe it. The power granted,
- 14:51let's see, it is this that renders the blessing of
- 14:55the Church and her exorcism is necessary. The power granted
- 14:58by our Lord is a possi to cast out unclean spirits.
- 15:02Is employed in exorcism and at baptism, when holy water
- 15:06is blessed. Let's see is employed in the exorcism at
- 15:11baptism when holy water is blessed. Care of possession or obsession?
- 15:17Now cases, my eyes must be a little cloudy today,
- 15:23a little irritated. Okay, cases of possession or obsession rarely
- 15:28occur in the present day. I'm not sure that's true anymore.
- 15:31Maybe been true in eighteen ninety when most people are baptized.
- 15:35Go down any city street in America, turn on your television. Yeah, anyway,
- 15:40cases of possession or obsession are rarely occur in the
- 15:44present day. The exorcism can only be performed by a
- 15:47bishop or by a priest with his permission. Only one
- 15:50who is himself animated by firm faith and whose life
- 15:53is pure can exercise, and even then the exorcism will
- 15:57be of no avail if the person exercised persevere and
- 16:00his evil dispositions, or if God wills say his elects
- 16:04should be delivered into the power of the devil for
- 16:05their sanctification. For the sacramentals do not remove affections which
- 16:10are for the spiritual welfare of the individual. Consecration by
- 16:15the Church consists in this that the ecclesiastical empowerment for
- 16:19this purpose sets apart some purs or some object, and
- 16:23dedicates him or it to the exclusive service of God.
- 16:27There are persons whom it is customary to consecrate in
- 16:30a solemn manner. They are the Pope, kings and emperors, abbots, monks,
- 16:35and nuns. The consecration of priests be it remembered as
- 16:38a sacrament. The things which it is customary to bless
- 16:41are holy water, the water used in baptism. This is
- 16:45blessed on Holy Saturday and the Eve of Pentecost. Candles
- 16:49on the Purification impatial candle at Easter, ashes on Ash Wednesday,
- 16:54palms on Palm Sunday, the Holy oils on Maundy Thursday.
- 16:58In the cathedrals, crosses, images, rosaries, medals, banners, places are
- 17:04awesome also blessed, such as churches, chapels, altars, and cemeteries.
- 17:09The Church blesses everything which appertains to divine service. Our
- 17:13Lord sanctioned the use of sacramentos, but the rights themselves
- 17:16are an institution of the Church Our Lord. While on
- 17:20earth bless loaves and fishes Matthew nine, fourteen nineteen. There
- 17:25we go he blessed the young children who had brought
- 17:28to him Mark ten sixteen. He gave his blessing to
- 17:31his apostles before his ascension Luke twenty four fifty. We
- 17:35read moreover that God bless our first parents and Genesis
- 17:38one twenty eight, that Noah blessed his two sons and
- 17:41Genesis twenty six. Isaac blessed Jacob and Genesis, etc. Jacob,
- 17:47with dying blessed the twelve sons Moses, the tribes of Israel.
- 17:51Aaron and the priests that succeeded him gave their benediction
- 17:55every morning and evening to the people in the outer
- 17:57court of the temple, forced their hands over them. They
- 18:01bless them, invoking the name of the Lord three times
- 18:04over the children of Israel. The ceremony of blessing or
- 18:07consecrating is generally performed by priests. Several acts of consecration
- 18:13appertained to the episcopal office and may only be performed
- 18:16by a priest with authorization of the bishop, as for instance,
- 18:21the dedication of churches and altars, the blessing of bells
- 18:25and chalices, etc. That's another thing Presidents get all worked
- 18:29up about blessing bells bells that are used in the
- 18:33church in the worship of God are blessed by the
- 18:36priest and essentially dedicated to God. That's no different than
- 18:44the blessings of the priests and the Old Testament. I mean,
- 18:47how many different objects can we go there? I mean
- 18:50from the Ark of the Covenant to what was in
- 18:53the Ark of the Covenant, you know, Aaron's staff, the
- 18:58various child and utensils that were used in the temple.
- 19:03All these were dedicated to God. The statues in the temple,
- 19:08the angels and all that that were graven images. Again, right,
- 19:13all of those were dedicated to the use of God,
- 19:16and when they were taken by pagans, God cursed them
- 19:19for having them and hit their possession. It's the same
- 19:23thing now. So, yeah, priest blesses the bales that are
- 19:26used in church. Why wouldn't he? I mean literally, it's
- 19:31like they just come up with stupid stuff, and it's like,
- 19:36did you actually read your Bible? Literally? I mean, did
- 19:40you actually read it? Or do you just come up
- 19:44with stuff? Don't ask me, I'm serious. I mean, if
- 19:50a handkerchief held by Saint Peter or Paul or something
- 19:54could heal somebody if the shadow, if there's shadow passing
- 20:00over somebody, could heal somebody. As it says in the Bible,
- 20:04what's your problem, dude? I mean literally, I just I
- 20:09don't get there's a lot. I mean, and you know,
- 20:15I was raised Protestant. I mean literally spent twenty four
- 20:20years of my life as a Protestant. It would not
- 20:24have bothered me if someone said, my priest blessed his candle.
- 20:27I've been like, yeah, okay, that makes sense. That's what
- 20:29did the priest in the Old Testament. They blessed the altars,
- 20:32they blessed the candles, they blessed the sacrifices. Yeah, your
- 20:37priest blessed his candle. Okay, that's cool. Why would in
- 20:41the world would anybody have a problem with that? I mean,
- 20:47you you know, you could constantly ask for God's blessing.
- 20:51Can you say, Lord, bless this house. I don't know
- 20:54of any Protestant who would have a problem with asking
- 20:56God to bless their house and all who live within.
- 21:01I mean, that's that's like, literally so commonplace. I don't
- 21:05think I've ever encountered in my entire life, even among
- 21:08the most stringently anti Catholics, one he would say, uh,
- 21:14you know it's wrong to ask God to bless your house.
- 21:16Why would it be wrong to ask God to bless
- 21:18your house? You live in it, right, I mean, you know, anyway,
- 21:24but bells apparently that's a problem. Oh they bless the bells. Okay, whatever, dude, seriously,
- 21:33I mean, yeah, what is it says in is it
- 21:38sirac or wisdom? If you argue with a fool, he'll
- 21:42do nothing but rage and laugh at you, and you
- 21:46accomplish nothing. You know, I'm sorry, somebody's probably gonna say.
- 21:52Jesus said, call no man a fool. He also also,
- 21:56just a few chapters later, said and God said to
- 21:59him that fool, your life will be required of you
- 22:02this day. Okay, we're getting back into some problems with
- 22:07translation here. But anyway, if you argue with an idiot,
- 22:13there's an old you know, there's an old saying, never
- 22:16wrestle with a pig because the pig enjoys it, and
- 22:19you're just gonna get money. You know, as bad as
- 22:23it sounds, I'm starting to come to that conclusion when
- 22:26it comes to a lot of Protestant arguments. I mean,
- 22:29someone says just vile things about the blessed version Mary,
- 22:32And it's like, why why are you doing this? Do
- 22:37you think you're making Jesus happy by insulting his mother?
- 22:42In what way is that a logical thought? Someone? Well again,
- 22:56you know, just very recently, someone said, none but God
- 22:59can forgive sins. You know you should go to a
- 23:02confession for a priest to a priest, And I'm like, well, one,
- 23:07Jesus instituted the priesthood. He told his priest to forgive sins,
- 23:11said those who sends you forgive, they're forgiven, etc. We've
- 23:13done that list. But do you know who you're quoting here? Yes,
- 23:17you're quoting the Bible, but who are you quoting in
- 23:19the Bible. You're quoting the Pharisees who use that very phrase,
- 23:28very terminology to demand that Jesus be tortured and killed.
- 23:35You're literally imitating the people who killed God. You're not
- 23:44exactly on the right side here. Are you going to
- 23:48quote the devil to me next? Yeah? Anyway, it's just crazy.
- 23:57I'm just telling you it's crazy. Now. He does make
- 23:59the point that the laity can bless, but not in
- 24:02the name of the church. Parents frequently bless their children,
- 24:05and the more pious, they are the more effect that
- 24:07they're blessing has. The use of blessed or consecrated objects
- 24:12is profitable for if used with pious disposition, they increase
- 24:16our fear and love of God being real sin and
- 24:19preserve us from many temptations and from bodily harm. Accepting
- 24:23such temptations and eels of the body as are for
- 24:26our spiritual welfare. In other words, if it's in God's
- 24:29will that you get sick because you need to deal
- 24:31with something, and that sickness is going to help you,
- 24:34knock you down a little bit and make you not
- 24:36so you know, busy or proud, and give you more
- 24:39time for prayer, You're still going to get sick. Absolutely,
- 24:43you should use holy water and blessed oil every day.
- 24:47That protects you from evil influence, It protects you from demons.
- 24:53That's the God's honest truth. And Protestant may have a
- 24:56fit over it, but it's true. Okay, every morning unless
- 25:01I forget, and I do. Sometimes I use holy water
- 25:04and I say a prayer for myself, my family, the
- 25:07holy souls in purgatory, you know, holy water, and I
- 25:11do it on my forehead, my lips, my heart, ask
- 25:14God to cleanse my mind, my lips, and my heart.
- 25:19Very important. In my opinion, It's extremely important in the
- 25:22any of the church. Is extremely important. The satan and
- 25:26demons cannot stand holy water, they cannot be around it.
- 25:31Every night before bed, I use blessed oil for the
- 25:35exact same reason. Blessed oil also helps heal us miraculously
- 25:42from physical eels and helps prevent nightmares and anything like
- 25:46that helps us remain in the peace of God through
- 25:51the night. Very very, very important. You should absolutely have
- 25:55blessed oil, Blessed salt, lovely salt. You can sprinkle around
- 26:01your house, keep all evil influences away from your house,
- 26:05and you can put in your food, you can eat
- 26:07blessed salt. It's just wonderful. These are things you should
- 26:12have in addition to your crucifix and all you know,
- 26:15your sacred heart and all that. Get those sacramentals, please,
- 26:22It would make a huge difference in this world if
- 26:24every home had them. The sacramentals remit venial sin and
- 26:30deliver us from some of the evil consequences of sin,
- 26:34such as holy water. You're essentially reapplying your baptism, renewing
- 26:40your baptism every time you cross yourself with holy water.
- 26:44They help us in the hour of temptation. Saint Teresa
- 26:47cannot say enough about the power of holy water to
- 26:49drive away the devil. There are also of use in
- 26:53bodily eels and infirmities. The Apostles anointed with oil many
- 26:56who are sick, and healed them Mark six thirteen. Again,
- 27:00reach your Bible. They are thus a remedy and a shield.
- 27:05It is a superstition of the part of is it
- 27:09superstition on the part of the soldier who carries with
- 27:11him a blessed crucifix when he goes to battle, hoping
- 27:14that God's mercy may be his protection. By no means,
- 27:19Nor is the sick man to blame if he sprinkles
- 27:21himself frequently with holy water, thinking thus to accelerate his recovery.
- 27:26We must beware of trusting too much in the efficacy
- 27:28of sacramentals, or imputing to them more power than the
- 27:32prayer that the Church imparts upon them. They are not
- 27:36like the sacraments. The sacraments confer upon those who receive
- 27:39them the grace of the Holy Spirit. The sacramentals only
- 27:43purify the soul and render it more fit for the
- 27:46reception of sanctifying grace. The sacramentals derive all their power
- 27:50from the prayers of the Church. It is in the
- 27:52name of the Church that the priest blesses them. The
- 27:54petitions of the Church have immense power, for they are
- 27:57united to the prayer of Our Lord and the implications
- 28:00of the Saints. The sacramentals can, however, only be used
- 28:04with prophet by a person who is free from mortal sin,
- 28:08and he uses them in the spirit of faith and confidence.
- 28:11The effect of the sacramentals depends upon the worthiness and
- 28:14the pious disposition of the individual who uses him. Those
- 28:17who live in mortal sin will derive no more benefit
- 28:20from wearing some blessed object or from the use of
- 28:23holy water than the Jews did from bringing the ark
- 28:25of the Covenant into the field of battle when they
- 28:28had encouraged God's wrath by their sins First King four four.
- 28:34Nor will they profit one who places no confidence in
- 28:37them any more than prayer prophets. A man who does
- 28:40not ask in faith nothing wavering. Because it's James one
- 28:44to six. Our Lord abstained from working many miracles in
- 28:48some places because of the unbelief the inhabitants Matthew thirteen eighteen.
- 28:54Remember what he said to the woman who touched him
- 28:57thy faith hath made the whole mark five thirty four.
- 29:01We find that devout Christians always reverence sacramentos and use
- 29:05them diligently. They wear blessed objects in their person, They
- 29:08frequently take holy water. They like to say their prayers
- 29:11in consecrated places, knowing that prayers offered in a church.
- 29:15That prayer offered in a church is more efficacious than
- 29:19that which is offered elsewhere in times of temptation or sickness.
- 29:24Above all, we should have recourse to the assistance afforded
- 29:27by sacramentals. I wholeheartedly endorse that statement. Not that my
- 29:34endorsement carries any weight, but literally, the more blessed objects,
- 29:41the more holy water, the more blessed salt, and more
- 29:44blessed oil, the more pictures of saints, the more statues
- 29:49of the blessed Virgin Mary, the more images of the
- 29:53Sacred Heart, the more crucifixes, the more divine mercy. Whatever
- 29:58rosaries you have in your house, the better off you're
- 30:03going to be. Because Satan and his demons cannot abide
- 30:08being around them or near them. You need to have
- 30:11them blessed by a priest like brown scapulars. Okay, they
- 30:15wear out frequently. Five years is probably the maximum your
- 30:20scapolo is going to last, even if you've got a
- 30:21really nice one. Okay, it needs to be buried. It's
- 30:25a blessed object. It needs to be buried, or it
- 30:27can be burned in certain cases, like the blessed palm
- 30:34crosses we get on Palm Sunday, those can be burned.
- 30:37In fact, that's what the ashes on ash Wednesday are
- 30:39supposed to be made from. But they should be buried.
- 30:42And a prayer said, as if you were doing a
- 30:47little funeral, because they've become holy objects. If you cannot
- 30:52keep them in a special place with your other sacramentals,
- 30:55keep them together, don't just throw them away, don't discard them.
- 31:00And that is something the priest stands in the stead
- 31:04of God. His hands are Jesus' hands, his mouth is
- 31:08Jesus's mouth, his words are Jesus's words, and when he
- 31:12blesses that object, it is something holy and you can't
- 31:17just disregard it. You do need to treat it properly
- 31:21and put as many of them as you can on
- 31:24your person in your house, if you can get one
- 31:27of those, like I don't even know how many different
- 31:29scapulars there are, I mean, like a dozen. I have
- 31:32no idea. There are a lot. There's the brown one,
- 31:35the white one, the blue one, the red one. They
- 31:37all have meaning. And sometimes you can get one that's
- 31:40like all them put together, and it's like a little
- 31:42book of scapulars you can just wear around your neck.
- 31:46Do so if you combine one of those, get your
- 31:48missile blessed. Get a permanent missile, not you know, the
- 31:52disposable you know, annual one we have in church, paperback.
- 31:57Get a real you know, a good missile, good you
- 32:01know prayer book. Get a good uh oh what am
- 32:04I trying? The liturgy of the hours? I can't remember
- 32:06this like coming to me right now. It's called get
- 32:09these things. Oh well, love the little chapel of the
- 32:14Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that little blue
- 32:18prayer book we can carry with us always, get it blessed.
- 32:21Ask your priests. Make sure you have a blessed crucifix
- 32:25at least in your house. Have blessed items in your bedroom.
- 32:29Would add a doubt, because when you're asleep you're very
- 32:32vulnerable to evil influences. Have them in every room, have
- 32:37them in your car, have them on your person, have
- 32:39them in your house, have them in your office. Get rosaries,
- 32:44buy as or make as many roses as you can
- 32:47have the ask the priest to bless them. Hand them
- 32:50out to people. Just hand them out crucifixes, even to
- 32:55your you know your Protestant friends. Give them a blessed
- 32:59object and tell them I Priest blessed this object, and
- 33:01I hope it's special to me. I hope it'd be
- 33:03special to you. They'll either accept or they won't. But
- 33:06if it's given to them with a humble heart, do
- 33:12you're going to accept it and they're going to be grateful.
- 33:14I got a bunch of white scapulars from the Holy
- 33:19Face Confraternity and a Protestant, very evangelical, no bias against
- 33:25Catholics at all, very evangelical guy that worked at the
- 33:29grocery store nearby. Great guy, a really nice guy, a
- 33:33very smart guy. Always want to pray for me before
- 33:36I'd leave the store. You know, you'd walk out of
- 33:38the car with me and say can I say I
- 33:39prayer for You'd be like, yeah, absolutely, thanks you know,
- 33:42nice guy had real hard life. I got one of
- 33:46those and I said, I said, this is a scapular.
- 33:50And you know, Catholics, as Catholics, we believe that certain
- 33:55blessings are conferred on those who are where this scapular.
- 33:58You know, I'm not asking you to believe this, but
- 34:00this is the face of Jesus. This is the face
- 34:02from Veronica's cloth. And I thought you'd like to have it.
- 34:06And he was overjoyed. I mean, He's like, this is
- 34:10the face of Jesus. I'm like, yeah, man, this is
- 34:13the face of Jesus. You know, seriously, and I mean
- 34:19it did never once crossed his mind to think this
- 34:22is something Catholic and weird. I don't want, you know,
- 34:24I said, you know, this is something that means a
- 34:26lot to me, and I want to share it with you.
- 34:28If you present medals. Oh gosh, you can get so
- 34:32many miraculous medals. There are companies that give free miraculous metals,
- 34:37or you can order like one hundred of them for
- 34:39ten dollars or something. Right, take a box in and
- 34:42have them, your priests, bless them, leave them everywhere you go,
- 34:46give them to everybody. You know, miraculous metals carry them
- 34:49so many blessings and conversions and just amazing healings. Go
- 34:54to the hospital, go to the nursing home, pass them
- 34:56out like candy. But you know, do you tell someone
- 35:01this is special to me, I hope it'll be special
- 35:04with you for you, so they don't just look at
- 35:06and throw it away. Okay you can't. Just you know,
- 35:10you got to tell somebody this is meaningful to me,
- 35:13and I want you to accept it as a gift
- 35:17from me, and then they'll keep it in case you
- 35:19you know, you might show up again and ask them
- 35:21about it. Right, People don't normally throw away a gift
- 35:24you give them because they don't want to be embarrassed
- 35:27if you come back and say, hey, what happened to
- 35:29that I gave you? Yeah, that's just human nature. So
- 35:33you can absolutely get sacramentals gosh green scapular. I think
- 35:38it's particularly good for healing, miraculous metal for conversions, and
- 35:44I mean the person does not have to be Catholic.
- 35:47You can you can be giving out sacramentals to everyone.
- 35:53And actually it's kind of interesting, you know, like when
- 35:58you go to a parade and they throw out candy, Well,
- 36:03there are a lot of origins for that. There have
- 36:05been secular parades. You know, you can go back to
- 36:08like ancient Rome and Greece, and yeah, they you know,
- 36:11the officials would go down the street and they'd be
- 36:13a big celebration with horns. They'd throw out bread to
- 36:15the crowds and all that. That's part of it. But
- 36:18a big part of it is in the Middle Ages
- 36:20when they would you know, like have a Corpus Christi
- 36:24procession or something, a big feast day in the Catholic Church,
- 36:27and they'd have a big parade and they'd take a
- 36:29you know, statue of the blessed version of Mary and
- 36:32they'd throw you know, put roses out and everything whatever
- 36:36they had. A lot of what was being thrown out
- 36:39were items blessed by a priest, and it would often
- 36:44be in the form of food like pretzels for instance,
- 36:48or other like you know, blessed bread items or sweets
- 36:54that they might have had at the time were often distributed.
- 36:57And Catholic feast days and festivals, and that's actually a
- 37:01sacramental It's just like when the priests goes through the
- 37:04church once a year and sprinkles is all with holy water.
- 37:08That's a sacramental. I mean, if we, as Catholics literally
- 37:13carried on us some blessed salt or some holy water,
- 37:16and every room in every place we walked into gave
- 37:20it a little sprinkle instead of prayer. Do you know
- 37:23how much good that would do? Imagine what a different
- 37:26place your DMV would be if a bunch of Catholics
- 37:29kept going in there and blessing it with holy water
- 37:31and salt. People may not be so nasty your prisons,
- 37:36your hospitals, your courtrooms. You cannot buy a law like
- 37:46sprinkle blessed salt in someone's food without their knowledge. That
- 37:49is illegal. Don't do that. Or holy water and do
- 37:52their drink or something weird like that. Okay, you don't
- 37:55do that, but you can absolutely sprinkle some in the
- 37:59room doorway when you walk through, say a silent prayer
- 38:02across yourself. No problem at all, No problem at all
- 38:06with that. In fact, we should be doing that. We
- 38:09should be doing that at every possible opportunity to drive
- 38:13the evil out of our world. Every street in your town,
- 38:17if you can sprinkle some holy water on it, do so.
- 38:20Every classroom in your child's school, do so. I mean,
- 38:25I cannot emphasize enough how important Sacramentos are. I cannot
- 38:31emphasize that enough. And I would also love and I
- 38:34hope to do this when things get settled down a
- 38:37little more and I got a place to call home
- 38:39permanently again after the hurricane and everything, I would really
- 38:43like to set up a little roadside shrine or a
- 38:47little grotto or something. I mean, there is like up
- 38:50at my place in the mountains, you can hike into
- 38:52the woods, and I think the Lutherans put a little
- 38:55chapel out there. It's a beautiful little place, just got
- 38:57a little cross and some benches and a little shelter
- 39:00and they have and it's nice. You know. I would
- 39:03love to do the same thing for Catholics. Find a
- 39:05little place in the national forest and just put a
- 39:08little you know, shrine or you know, beside a trail somewhere.
- 39:13You know, you got to understand, you know, some body
- 39:18is going to probably deface it at some point. It's
- 39:20something you're going to have to accept and you're gonna
- 39:22have to repair it and you have to watch over it.
- 39:25But it's a wonderful thing to do. Really, it's a
- 39:28wonderful thing to do. You know, some people would take
- 39:32crucifixes and kind of hide them in trees in the
- 39:36woods and say a prayer that the whole forest and
- 39:39everybody that enters into it would be blessed. Another wonderful
- 39:42thing to do. Remember what it says in Maccabees, it's
- 39:50an honorable thought to pray for the dead. Even if
- 39:53people don't understand it or appreciate it, God will so.
- 40:01And remember that every every town, every forest, every park,
- 40:07every space on this world in this world, every church
- 40:10and every I mean every community has its own guardian angel.
- 40:13So that's another thing we can do, is invoke that
- 40:16guardian angels protection. Yeah. So anyway, y'all have a wonderful week,
- 40:23stay safe and warm, and I will talk to you
- 40:25next time.
