- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. So the question of the day is,
- 0:31do you take time to just let your mind melt?
- 0:35And I'm not talking about being creative, I'm not talking about
- 0:39your goals. I'm not talking about any of
- 0:41that right this minute. Do you take time to let your
- 0:44mind melt? And that was how the question
- 0:46was posed to me yesterday. Do you take time to let your
- 0:50brain just go? And I was like, what do you
- 0:53mean? And she said, you know, melt, do
- 0:55you let your mind melt? And I was like, that's a really
- 0:58interesting question. Do you mean like, just like
- 1:03think about nothing, go off like what do you, what do you exactly
- 1:06are you meaning by that? And she said, well, because I
- 1:09feel guilty about wanting to watch ATV show and just sit down
- 1:14and watch ATV show and not feel guilty about it.
- 1:17I can't do it. I feel guilty about it.
- 1:19And I was like, wow, that's really, really interesting
- 1:22because for me, one of the most important things that I focus on
- 1:27is if I'm going to do something, I go into it wholeheartedly
- 1:31without having the feeling of being guilty about it because I
- 1:35handled the objections up front in my head.
- 1:38She did not ever. We had never talked about that
- 1:40apparently. And so that's why I was like,
- 1:42you know what, we're talking about this today because I am
- 1:46100% love to watch a really good series or shows or sometimes
- 1:51just stupid ones, but I don't let it into fear with the rest
- 1:55of my world. In other words, it's it's not
- 1:58going to rob me from progress. It's not going to rob me.
- 2:01I'm connecting with my family because maybe I'm watching it
- 2:04with them or I'm doing something that's that my mind is melting,
- 2:09but it's with them. And usually it's movies.
- 2:11We like watching movies, we like watching shows.
- 2:13My husband and I right now, Full disclosure, we're into
- 2:16Severance. We watched the first season.
- 2:19It's very, very interesting. The concept is super interesting
- 2:23to me about being able to turn off half of your life and not
- 2:26remember the other part of it while you're somewhere else so
- 2:29that you can stay completely focused.
- 2:31It's kind of spooky creepy. I love it.
- 2:35We watched, you know where we watch season 1.
- 2:38Now we're into season 2. Obviously it's coming out slowly
- 2:41with Apple, but OK, whatever. A client had recommended to me
- 2:45to watch Younger and it's a very interesting show, seven seasons
- 2:51long. And you know what?
- 2:53I love it now do I watch the show and have it robbed
- 2:57something from my life? In other words, is it robbing
- 3:00time from with my husband or my son or my daughter?
- 3:03No, not doing that because I watch it like when I know
- 3:07they're watching something else, they like scary movies.
- 3:10So I'm not into the scary, scary horror movies, but they are.
- 3:14So if they're watching that, I'll let myself go do it.
- 3:16But I don't feel guilty about it.
- 3:17I don't say I should be doing this and I should be doing that
- 3:21and shooting all over myself. No, no, no, no, no.
- 3:24I stay focused on the fact that no, this is my, this is my time
- 3:28to just like decompress. For me, the word is decompress.
- 3:31I don't have to think about anything.
- 3:33I don't have to think about helping someone with their
- 3:36thoughts. I don't have to think about
- 3:38animals. None of it.
- 3:39I can just crawl under a weighted blanket, which I love
- 3:43by the way, and can just melt and that's OK.
- 3:49And if you're not doing that, you have to ask yourself, what's
- 3:52the reason I'm not doing that? And it doesn't have to be with a
- 3:55movie or show or anything else. Some people do it with
- 3:59crocheting, some people do it with needlepoint, some people do
- 4:02it with painting. They just melt away.
- 4:05I know I can also do that when I'm in the studio doing clay
- 4:09work. That was a big time for my brain
- 4:11to just melt it. I don't know why it was so much
- 4:15more impactful for me than it was.
- 4:18It is when I paint, but it is. It's just different.
- 4:21But even still from from my perspective, that point of of
- 4:27one, not feeling guilty, and two, recognizing that this from
- 4:32from my perspective, my physical perspective, I want to be still
- 4:36when I do that. So if I'm watching a show or a
- 4:39movie, I'm very still physically, which is not
- 4:42something that I ever am. So if I'm doing the clay or I'm
- 4:47painting or I'm taking pictures, I'm moving.
- 4:50I'm doing what I'm always doing on the move, on the move, on the
- 4:53move. But when I watch a movie and I'm
- 4:56just there and I'm under my weighted blanket and I'm not
- 4:58sleeping, I'm awake. I'm and I'm not present in my
- 5:03head. I'm just present with the show
- 5:05and the characters. There is a release in inside of
- 5:09me and there's a release in most of us.
- 5:12That's just why we get so intoxicated by movies.
- 5:14We're just like because it allows us to unplug from
- 5:17ourselves, which is I think why I get so offended when the movie
- 5:21sucks. And I'm like, I just wasted that
- 5:23time because I wanted to go and I couldn't get into it.
- 5:27I didn't like the characters, the acting was bad.
- 5:28Whatever it might be, it gets my my head going.
- 5:31So the point is, what are you doing to like melt?
- 5:36What are you doing so you can completely unplug?
- 5:38Because on the other side of that is regeneration and that
- 5:41feels really good. So curious question today, What
- 5:45are you doing to melt? All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:47you have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:49Bye.
