- 0:29sacrifices that I made to love
- 0:48Join us, won't you, on the couch
- 0:52polygamist marriage therapy session.
- 0:55Join us on the Chaise Lounge of Life.
- 1:01Of a questionable in pathetic life.
- 1:04We are on season 6, episode 10
- 1:07The episode is called Polygamist
- 1:12I've been excited about this episode.
- 1:13I've been looking forward to it because we get to meet a new
- 1:15character in the Sister Wives universe and it is what it is.
- 1:19We get to see more dysfunction
- 1:21She's no Mona. Oh, she is.
- 1:23Tell you that she's no Mona and I'm disappointed about that.
- 1:28You can't replace Mona. We all know you can't replace
- 1:31Mona. Mona, would you please go and
- 1:33get your therapy license, please?
- 1:37Please. Please join us again.
- 1:40Yeah, it's hard to replace Mona.
- 1:42Mona is one-of-a-kind Mona. Truly.
- 1:45Truly is one-of-a-kind. Truly.
- 1:47To start out this episode, we're on the couch with the family.
- 1:51Well, with the parents. We don't get any children in
- 1:53this episode. None of the kids.
- 1:55I mean, there's a couple shots with the kids, but.
- 1:57We get Leon. Oh, that I'm such an idiot.
- 2:00Well, how could I have forgotten?
- 2:02About that, they're not really worth mentioning often.
- 2:05I agree. I agree so well.
- 2:07OK, spoiler alert, we get Leon. And so the parents are on the
- 2:12couch and Kody's talking about how in the past they have seen a
- 2:18Utah. And he makes sure to emphasize
- 2:24Take note. Highlighted Highlighted in your
- 2:29book. They have not been able to see
- 2:36Oh so. Bad.
- 2:37Too bad you can't see Pat in Las Vegas.
- 2:39And we are going to be introduced to a new therapist, a
- 2:46I'm not sure if they actually said what her designation is.
- 2:51I don't note it. They showed us her door with her
- 3:06therapist. And I will refer to this person
- 3:09as a head Dr. and this head Dr. is Nancy, Nancy Hunterton.
- 3:14And Nancy came on a high recommendation from Pat.
- 3:19Now, does that mean? Not quite sure, but maybe we'll
- 3:22figure it out. Pat did some research to see if
- 3:25there was a therapist in the area that would be a good fit
- 3:28for the family and after speaking with Nancy, Pat decided
- 3:34We find out that the parents are
- 3:38Pat to Sedona, AZ for a marriage
- 3:42Now, when I hear marriage retreat, I would think that it
- 3:45was maybe more than one couple.
- 3:47Well, I guess I am coming to this from a lens of a
- 3:50monogamist, a sick, twisted monogamist.
- 3:52So you know, when I've seen marriage retreats on other
- 3:56shows, there's usually multiple couples and they're going
- 3:59through scenarios and whatever those things are called when
- 4:02they're sitting around doing. Doing exercises.
- 4:04Thank you. But this one is just going to be
- 4:10special and there's a camera crew and a production crew and
- 4:20The adults go to meet Nancy and we start our experience with
- 4:25Nancy by doing an exercise for unearthing their personality
- 4:28traits and miscellaneous whatnot.
- 4:30They're going to do a personality test.
- 4:32I noted on one of the pieces of paper it says Anne Graham, which
- 4:40because I think you have not done it, or if you have done it,
- 4:43you don't know what you are. I don't remember.
- 4:45I think I've done these before in college and I've done similar
- 4:53adult life when they start a new job, their job will do, get to
- 5:01can work our best together. That type of deal.
- 5:04When I, I had a workplace where we did that and they gave us
- 5:08beads where we put our colors that symbolized whatever our
- 5:11outcomes were on a safety pin that we put into our cubicle.
- 5:16And I was going, wow, who has the mental wherewithal to come
- 5:23green, red, like, oh, I know what that means.
- 5:24I was just like, this is so ridiculous.
- 5:26This is why people laugh at these kind of things, because
- 5:27it's like, what are you even talking about?
- 5:29I worked at a nonprofit and we did one step further.
- 5:32You had to put your name, a picture of you and ways that you
- 5:41next to your cube. That'd be funny if it was like,
- 5:45leave me alone, don't waste my time, I don't need friends.
- 5:48Doesn't work well with others. Yeah, it just doesn't work.
- 5:51Well done with others, period. When they're diving into this
- 5:54exercise, we get a clip of Christine saying I've been
- 5:58romantic and imaginative or pragmatic and some other words.
- 6:01Down to earth, but first she
- 6:03announces that she can read. Oh, she does.
- 6:06She does say she can read. That's right, I can read.
- 6:09Nancy asks if someone can read
- 6:13of makes a joke joke of it. Christine goes, I can read.
- 6:18I've been romantic and imaginative, or I've been
- 6:22pragmatic and down to earth. What a wonderful example.
- 6:27And this is where I was like, they are definitely taking an
- 6:29Enneagram test because it's usually teed up for this versus
- 6:31that and then it collects and then you get an outcome.
- 6:34Of course, Meri has to chime in going, I don't like this.
- 6:38And I was shocked. I was shocked that Meri didn't
- 6:40like it. I I thought Meri liked
- 6:42everything, had a great attitude
- 6:45Kody gives us a voice over moment where he says
- 6:48stereotypically, a female therapist is going to appear to
- 6:52be a feminist and a threat to plural marriage, maybe even our
- 6:56family. A.
- 6:59Threat. Just assuming that therapist is
- 7:02going to be a feminist because
- 7:07hate him. She's going to hate the family
- 7:09dynamic and be a threat to the
- 7:12Right. You know, Kody, it's funny
- 7:14because they talk about being judged by people all the time,
- 7:17and then they come to these situations with their own
- 7:19judgments. And it's like, OK, well, here
- 7:21you are. He's talking about feminist as
- 7:24well, like it's a bad word, when
- 7:29equality, right? All it means being equal and
- 7:35women should be able to choose.
- 7:36Men should be able to choose. So if your wives are able to
- 7:39choose, why is feminist a bad word to you especially?
- 7:41Because the narrative that these people tee up all the time is
- 7:44that the women. Are the women are in charge?
- 7:46And he's just, you know, the bumbling boob floating around
- 7:48being told what to do. And it's like, OK.
- 7:50We all know that's bullshit. I did want to make note that
- 7:53while they're doing this Enneagram test, I had a
- 7:57flashback into the future about how later in the series, way
- 8:01down the road, someone is pointing out something about
- 8:04Robyn and how she reacts to things.
- 8:06And they harken back to this very exercise where they say,
- 8:10well, Robyn, when we did the anagram, you were A and I want
- 8:17but highlighting something about her personality type with this.
- 8:20And she literally says that she
- 8:22never did it and she thinks someone else did it because she
- 8:24wasn't there. And it's like, you are a liar.
- 8:27This is the episode that we see her doing the test with people.
- 8:30She doesn't want to be accountable for anything ever.
- 8:33Clearly This is why she has mistrust issues with Nancy that
- 8:36we will get into. But I just wanted to point out
- 8:39for our listeners that have seen
- 8:42didn't this come up in the future?
- 8:43It absolutely does, and Robyn says that she never did this
- 8:46with them and here we see her doing it.
- 8:49Liar liar pants are on fire with
- 8:53just burning up. Burning up those buns.
- 8:56And that white stitching on the dark denim really ties it all
- 9:00together. I noticed as well that they
- 9:04obviously had to gather up extra
- 9:09Oh, were they cramped in there?
- 9:11Random mismatch of chairs, Obviously not the way that the
- 9:17I. Suppose she's probably not
- 9:19usually doing therapy with five adults, but it.
- 9:21Made me question the fact that she's an expert in plural
- 9:25marriage. Well, but Nancy's not the
- 9:27expert. Remember, Pat's the expert.
- 9:29Oh, you're right. So Nancy, but if Nancy does have
- 9:37a regular chaise lounge. Yeah, true, true.
- 9:41Now I'm starting to question Nancy and her qualifications and
- 9:46Hot off the heels of Robyn saying that women are more
- 9:50judgmental of their lifestyles than men, we hear from Kody and
- 9:53he's basically saying that he doesn't want Nancy to tell him
- 9:59when they all should be doing it.
- 10:01I'm sure that happens quite regularly for him, as we've
- 10:05discussed before. So I can see being a little
- 10:08defensive about that. You know, everyone else is fine
- 10:10and I'm the one that has to change.
- 10:12You know we don't like to give. He's the common denominator
- 10:15between all of them, so he's the one that gets pointed out all
- 10:19the time is the problem and the one that needs to change.
- 10:23This is a little foreshadowing and I'm not mad about it.
- 10:28At first when he said this, I thought, of course you need to
- 10:39But as the episode progresses, I may or may not get where he is
- 10:45All right, that's a little foreshadowing on my part.
- 10:48I may or may not get where he's coming from.
- 10:51OK, OK. Yeah.
- 10:52All right. He's saying here he's sick of
- 10:55being the one that has to be told everything from everybody
- 11:06comes to their religion, he is
- 11:10it. He shouldn't have gotten himself
- 11:12into a plural marriage if he wasn't ready for and wasn't able
- 11:16to be the person to fix it. Because the whole point of this
- 11:20religion and having multiple wives is that you are ready and
- 11:24you are receiving of these wives
- 11:27these wives because you are ready and able to through.
- 11:30Your tool, absolutely. So if you're not able to, if
- 11:33your tool can't handle it, Kody,
- 11:38here, don't come to me to fix it.
- 11:41However, in your religion, you're supposed to be the one to
- 11:46one of the reasons they're doing this marriage retreat is
- 11:49to really pin down their mission statement or what should
- 11:52go into their mission statement.
- 11:54This drives me a little nuts because I'm going, you know,
- 12:00it's so succinct. It's so like small.
- 12:02And it comes up over and over again in this episode where they
- 12:05reference the mission statement and a future upcoming thing
- 12:08that they're going to be doing that we'll talk about.
- 12:11Where I'm thinking, isn't therapy a little bit more broad
- 12:15and about self examination holistically and relationships?
- 12:18Not just, I should say just, but
- 12:22mission statement to a therapist?
- 12:24Well, Nancy asks them what they would really like to achieve by
- 12:28going to therapy and by doing this whole exercise.
- 12:32What would you really like to achieve on this retreat?
- 12:36And Meri says communication. I'd like to get better at
- 12:40communication. And Christine says their family
- 12:43mission statement, they want to be able to come to a conclusion
- 12:47as a family, come together as a family to come up with what's
- 12:52the most important things for them.
- 12:54OK, so it kind of has to do with
- 12:58into a family mission statement.
- 13:01But it's very forced. It's a forced narrative by the
- 13:09When in all reality, if you were in therapy and you're working
- 13:14towards your life goals, of course that would be in your
- 13:17mission statement, what you're working towards, right?
- 13:19If I'm working to become a better person, if I'm working to
- 13:31Like, duh, these guys. Circles now that you say that it
- 13:39being beaten to their heads. Like they're being reminded
- 13:41constantly that they have to do this thing because you know,
- 13:43Christina is the driver behind their mission statement from
- 13:46what we can tell and trying to get it done at least.
- 13:49It's just the way it's referenced in this episode
- 13:51multiple times makes me feel weird.
- 13:54It's contrived. Yeah, it's contrived, as have
- 13:57the last. How many episodes have they've
- 14:05I don't know. We're burying things.
- 14:08We're writing things. We're.
- 14:10Starting plastic bags on fire. Starting plastic on fire About
- 14:20that potentially could fall apart.
- 14:22Boy. Kody gives us another wonderful
- 14:25word of wisdom here, specifically a word that I was
- 14:31incorporate this more in my life.
- 14:32One of the things we'd like to do, he tells us, is inaugurate
- 14:40So he's teeing up this upcoming commitment ceremony that we're
- 14:47going to come together and celebrate their commitment to
- 14:50each other and to partner with that is their mission statement
- 14:53that they're going to inaugurate.
- 14:54I was like, wow, inauguration. I'm familiar with inauguration
- 15:03used in other ways. So I'm learning new things from
- 15:06Kody. I'm getting smarter by the aid
- 15:12word into my vocabulary. I don't know if that was the
- 15:15correct use. Honey, how about you inaugurate
- 15:17the use of the word inaugurate? Oh, yeah.
- 15:21OK. All right.
- 15:22All right. Clarity from Kody.
- 15:25Oh boy. And after he says this, I'm
- 15:27thinking to myself, so you're doing this mission statement for
- 15:32you are oversimplifying it. But once again, the way that
- 15:35they kind of jockey these things back and forth and talk about
- 15:38it, you're kind of left scratching your head until you
- 15:43usually do. No, because he basically is
- 15:45saying that this mission statement is going to be the
- 15:49cornerstone part of our family ceremony.
- 15:51It's going to be an integral part.
- 15:54It's important we're inaugurating it.
- 15:56It'll come on a scroll. It will.
- 15:59They should have buried it in the plastic cooler.
- 16:02Gosh the timelines are all fucked up.
- 16:04Gosh. Well, they talk about how it was
- 16:12One of Christine's biggest regrets?
- 16:14Duh. We get a clip from Robyn and
- 16:19she's just such a gem. Robyn lets us know that Nancy is
- 16:26She's going to need to earn her trust.
- 16:28Yeah, because Robyn is cautious when it comes to something like
- 16:30this. Very.
- 16:31Cautious. I was reading between the lines
- 16:34here, and I'll read between them
- 16:36going Robyn, why are you distrustful of a therapist right
- 16:40off the bat? Someone might see your flaws.
- 16:44Someone might diagnose you. Therapist can't diagnose you.
- 16:49But someone might call out things that need to change.
- 16:54They might pick up on patterns
- 16:59Probably wouldn't be good for Robyn in any scenario unless it
- 17:02was literally the worst therapist on the planet.
- 17:04Like Robyn would love to see the
- 17:08I mean, we'll see. We'll.
- 17:10See, only time will tell. Can you tread the water here?
- 17:14Trust us, Nancy is no Mona. She's no Mona.
- 17:17Mona could have shed a lot of light.
- 17:19You know, after Mona went through this entire housing
- 17:23process with them, she probably would have been the best
- 17:25therapist to them ever. You know how that woman just
- 17:30held her tongue and you could tell at the very end when she's
- 17:33sighs and goes, oh, it's over.
- 17:36Finally over. Thank you, Lord Jesus, it's
- 17:39over. Mona got on her knees and
- 17:42prayed. And as we usually get in this
- 17:45show, we have a seamless transition into our next scene
- 17:48where we have Leon and Kody and Meri joined together at Meri's
- 17:53house to have a discussion, a frank and honest conversation
- 17:57about Leon's future, their educational future.
- 18:01We learned that while Leon did
- 18:03Westminster, it turns out it was
- 18:07And I'm going, duh. That was something I was
- 18:11hammering. And I said, Chris, shut up.
- 18:13Nobody cares. Stop talking about it.
- 18:15Scholarships, usually, it's not as if you get one scholarship
- 18:19and your college is paid for. I don't know where these people
- 18:21are even. I guess maybe they have a lack
- 18:23of understanding schools and how
- 18:28Still. It's a drop in, I mean, even a
- 18:29good scholarship that some people get, it's $5000.10
- 18:33thousand. Well, $10,000 does not pay for a
- 18:35college education. I believe that they said Leon
- 18:38got a $10,000 scholarship previously.
- 18:41It was a drop in the bucket. Yes, and they are going to have
- 18:45to have a hard talk with Leon about the lack of funds to go to
- 18:48Westminster. We find out that Meri is not
- 18:51ready to give up. No.
- 18:55Meri cannot crush Leon's dreams.
- 18:57Only some of the dreams, not this dream.
- 19:00No, no, no, no, no, Leanne says. I'll get a second job.
- 19:07This summer, This summer, a second summer job, A senior in
- 19:12Not even realizing tuition has to be paid by a certain time.
- 19:18You have to pay your tuition before you start school.
- 19:21I can't believe they're talking about this right now.
- 19:25Can I tell you they're talking about this?
- 19:28The tuitions probably already do.
- 19:30For real. Yeah, I don't remember.
- 19:34I feel well. I went to a state school and I
- 19:40give people an opportunity for student loans to come in.
- 19:43But I that's a state school. I don't know what Westminster is
- 19:49applied though by that time and it was already on its way to the
- 19:54Yeah, it might not have come through yet, but it was already
- 19:58I think so done. There's a cut off where you get
- 20:02fines or extra expenses on top of it.
- 20:05They're in springtime, about to go into summer for they're
- 20:10talking about fall semester of the same year.
- 20:13Anyone who's listening and has dealt with college applications
- 20:16themselves or for children realizes that this timeline is
- 20:27I think Kody points out how Westminster cost 4 times the
- 20:31amount of UNLV, which is where Logan is going and they have a
- 20:42have been saying from the very beginning.
- 20:44Kody says after Leon says oh I'll get a second job.
- 20:48Kody says that won't be enough and we cannot take the money
- 20:52from the family budget but maybe we could take it from your
- 20:56budget. And he points at Meri and that
- 21:01She kind of skirts around it and ignores it.
- 21:05Oh, I thought she went and took a picture of the wet bar to put
- 21:10on Facebook Marketplace, but no, I I was hallucinating.
- 21:12I was hallucinating. To rent it out.
- 21:15I've got an event space in my 5 bedroom house.
- 21:18I've got a wet bar 4 feet away from the kitchen sink.
- 21:22Oh, it was a little weird to see Kody bringing this up to Meri
- 21:26about how it should come out of her budget.
- 21:28That Leon's schooling should potentially come out of her
- 21:30budget instead of the family's budget because she does have a
- 21:36family. We already have a child in
- 21:39college and we never came together and discussed how we
- 21:42were going to finance that. I think Meri might have even
- 21:44said we don't. She doesn't even know the
- 21:46details about how Logan's schooling is being paid for.
- 21:48Meri says we do not have a budget for education for each
- 21:51child. We've never discussed this and
- 21:58You're not an only child, you have 17 siblings.
- 22:01Westminster is a school for an only child or a well off family
- 22:07essentially not a family with 17 other kids to put through
- 22:11school. Leon has been treated like an
- 22:15only child. Yeah.
- 22:17This, to me is Kody calling out. Hey Leon.
- 22:22Ding Ding, Ding, Ding Ding. Not an only child, you remember
- 22:27that? Unfortunately, my empathy for
- 22:29Kody starts to wane because he talks about how assuming the
- 22:33debt for this is not OK for him, he'd like to retire one day.
- 22:37I know I've referenced it before.
- 22:39It drives me nuts the way he talks about college education
- 22:42funding because he does this black or white thing.
- 22:45You can't go into debt, you can't do whatever, you can't
- 22:48blah blah blah. You have to be able to work and
- 22:51pay your way through college, which is really when I was in
- 22:55college. I work part time all the time
- 22:57through college. There wasn't any way I was
- 22:59covering tuition with my part time uneducated college income,
- 23:02you know? Here's one thing I'm going to
- 23:05say in defense of Kody here, and you're not going to hear me say
- 23:08this very often. He says that he would be paying
- 23:10off this one student loan for at least 30 years, and he wants
- 23:14to be able to retire. Yeah.
- 23:16Now we need to remember that Kody is married to Meri.
- 23:22So Leon's applications for student loans are based off of
- 23:30Yes. This situation is completely
- 23:32different than any other child situation.
- 23:35If they weren't married, Leon would probably be able to get
- 23:39more money from the state or more scholarships.
- 23:42So this is an actual interesting situation here and I get where
- 24:02You are not an only child. I think that there's something
- 24:09Meri even says we have been talking about this.
- 24:12We have been applying for things.
- 24:14I've been on the phone. You haven't been here.
- 24:16You haven't been here for the conversations.
- 24:18And I want to say right now, this would have been a good
- 24:24reason to divorce Kody, not because of Robyn.
- 24:27This would have been a good reason.
- 24:29Hey, my child wants to go to college.
- 24:31What can I get my child for money for college versus being
- 24:38I wonder if this was floating around in her head yet.
- 24:41At this point, rumor has it that seeds were planted by Robyn.
- 24:46You know about oh, well, maybe you could divorce and then blah
- 24:49blah blah blah blah and yadda yadda yadda.
- 24:51I'm unsure if that's happened yet.
- 24:53It would be interesting to know if she's thinking about it yet.
- 24:56It wouldn't be new for
- 24:57polygamists to manipulate the This is IT system.
- 25:01Bleeding the beast, right? Absolutely.
- 25:04Yeah. Kody has a great line here.
- 25:06This is expensive and is more than can be covered by an $8 an
- 25:10hour job at a clothing store, which I loved.
- 25:13I was totally like, it is so true because Leon is positioning
- 25:18themselves right now in this defiance.
- 25:20The the non verbals is very Oh
- 25:24verge of tears. Leon's like, what do you want me
- 25:27to do? It does suck because I know what
- 25:31it's like to not have parents fund your college education.
- 25:33It fucking sucks. I know what it's like to have a
- 25:35parent say I'm not going to cosign for student loans and for
- 25:38me to have to wait until I was
- 25:42because they wouldn't cosign for
- 25:45go. It is a thing.
- 25:47But Leon just acts like a brat, a spoiled brat.
- 25:49As we know, that has happened repeatedly.
- 25:51It continued in this conversation.
- 25:53I have a very complicated relationship with college
- 25:56myself. My sister went to college right
- 25:59away after high school and was
- 26:02My parents were going through a divorce at the time and she
- 26:05couldn't get a cosigner on loans.
- 26:06It was really messy. So by the time that I got to
- 26:10college age, nobody gave a shit to be honest.
- 26:15Nobody was encouraging me to go to school, nobody was helping
- 26:18me come up with a plan. They essentially pushed me
- 26:23towards beauty school saying oh,
- 26:27So I can empathize with Leon being scared and feeling that
- 26:35their dreams are slipping away
- 26:39unsupported. But this conversation should
- 26:43have been had a long time ago.
- 26:47Especially with how many children you have and how
- 26:49important education is to you before they even moved to Vegas.
- 26:53Janelle is talking about how education is one of the most
- 26:56important things for the family and how her kids are going to
- 26:58be educated, blah blah blah blah
- 27:01Obviously it's not that important if you've never even
- 27:03discussed the budget for it. Meri says that she thinks the
- 27:07options are Westminster with the
- 27:10already got or UNLV with residential tuition.
- 27:16And Leon says what I'm hearing
- 27:26Very true, Leon. That's what you're hearing.
- 27:28And unfortunately, your mom is
- 27:33Doing a merry thing where she skirts around and doesn't want
- 27:36to be the disappointment queen
- 27:42Letting Leon down again. This is a moment where I
- 27:45probably would end up divorced
- 27:48against my spouse and say I am
- 27:52child to go to school. It is a deal breaker for me that
- 27:56you are preventing my child from
- 27:59So you know, this is also by I'm
- 28:02kids and, you know, forever alone.
- 28:05I just Meri is avoidant on It's weird because she doesn't skirt
- 28:09away from some conflict in some combative situations, but then
- 28:13when it seems like it would really serve, she does this
- 28:16whole can't, you know? She does stand up for Leon and
- 28:21herself and say we have been talking about this.
- 28:24You haven't been around. You have not been part of the
- 28:26discussions. I have been on the phone, Kody.
- 28:28I've been on the phone with everybody and I can tell that
- 28:31Meri is fighting really hard for
- 28:36situation hits so close to home for me it's not even funny.
- 28:39Honestly this conversation sucks
- 28:46our country cared more about education.
- 28:49It makes me sick to think of all
- 28:53and talented in this world and
- 28:56because they can't afford it. It also makes me sick to think
- 28:59of all of the people that are strapped down with student loans
- 29:02that can't afford to even take
- 29:05their student loans. So it's a hard conversation to
- 29:10be had and I cannot imagine being selfish enough to have 17
- 29:14children and not have this in the bag, not have it figured
- 29:21out. Well, it's specifically for
- 29:22college education. Having it in the bag doesn't
- 29:26even necessarily mean that you
- 29:29but you need to be open to to have a plan on how you're going
- 29:32to tackle the issue. Kody just putting his foot down
- 29:35and crossing his arms is not a
- 29:37It's ridiculous. This is only the second child,
- 29:41mind you, that they're having the discussion about.
- 29:44This is 2 of to 17. We've got 15 more kids to go
- 29:50under here. And this is where each child
- 29:52gets less and less attention, less and less funding, less and
- 29:56less of, you know, everything from the parents.
- 30:00And yet we're supposed to have
- 30:04more support. We're supposed to have all of
- 30:05this because of all the moms and
- 30:08huge, big supportive family. You can't even support your
- 30:12second child to go to the college they want to go to.
- 30:16Says a lot about you as a person.
- 30:17Kody Brown. And Leon says I'm just going to
- 30:21do it, as if they're just going to figure it out and there's no
- 30:25other option. I think we've all been young and
- 30:27we've all said something similar
- 30:30They're going to have a hard time when they show up and
- 30:32they're escorted out of the classroom because they haven't
- 30:34paid their tuition. So, you know, it's good for you,
- 30:37Leon. You're basically auditing this
- 30:39class. You're not going to get credit.
- 30:40You can sit in if you want, but you're not going to get college
- 30:43credits for it because you didn't pay.
- 30:45You didn't. Pay.
- 30:47We cut to Kody and I'm assuming he's at Robyn's.
- 30:51Kody is packing up his jewelry
- 30:55diligently on and he's about to give them out before the Sedona
- 30:59trip. He wants each wife to have their
- 31:01special piece of jewelry before this special trip.
- 31:04Oh so special. He's put his heart and his soul
- 31:09into these pieces and he doesn't
- 31:15one's beautiful, but mine's not.
- 31:18He is concerned about each wife hating or loving their jewelry
- 31:26I mean, you know, there was no way to avoid this.
- 31:29It's not like he completely manufactured the entire
- 31:31situation and then manufactured in quotes the jewelry.
- 31:34But you know, to make it all OK, he's putting them into beautiful
- 31:41going to give them to the wives all at the same time.
- 31:45These gift bags, he's pulling them out of a giant box as if
- 31:50they have these gift bags and these are the bags they give out
- 31:57To the Expos. Yeah, it's this giant box of
- 32:00gift bags. It's pretty funny.
- 32:03Yeah, and they are basic. They're literally one color and
- 32:05the tissue papers and one color.
- 32:06They are mass produced blah blah
- 32:08They look like what you'd give
- 32:12in. Yeah, Kody says.
- 32:15The devil comes out when they compare pieces.
- 32:18This is the kind of stuff that
- 32:22out. He's worried about them
- 32:27comparing the pieces and being
- 32:31he'll poke his eyes out. I think you're right that he was
- 32:36at Robyn's because I noted that all of the wives are waiting in
- 32:39Meri's kitchen to receive these once in a lifetime gifts and
- 32:45right before this very special
- 32:48Oh. There's also signs behind him
- 32:52that look like they go up at the
- 32:55Sister Wives logos on them and then the box of the gift
- 32:59wrapping is there. So all of these boxes of the
- 33:02shit that belong with the jewelry are there, which they
- 33:05have to be at Robyn's house then, right?
- 33:07She's got the boxes of shit everywhere.
- 33:09Probably. Yeah, and the sign behind him
- 33:11had graphics that looked like they were clipped art, Word art,
- 33:16where Clippy, the helper in the Word document was saying it's
- 33:21going to be let's use that. That's a good font.
- 33:24Well honey, you are talking about my sister wife's closet
- 33:27world headquarters. OK, so shit, let's give it the
- 33:30respect that it deserves. Which is Clippy in the clip art.
- 33:33You're right. With a fountain out front that
- 33:35looks like the knuckle bear claw
- 33:38That this is it, darn it. World Headquarters.
- 33:41Who gets their jewelry first? Oh well, wife #1 Meri, of
- 33:45course, the most special wife.
- 33:49going in or Oh no, they. They don't, they don't, they
- 33:52don't go in order, but they start with Meri and she opens up
- 33:57her gift. She opens up her little box that
- 34:00the jewelry's in and she goes,
- 34:04And I was like, oh, really cool.
- 34:05It's not really cool. It's really, I can't even say it
- 34:09Really. Cool.
- 34:10Really cool. Really cool.
- 34:12Oh God. And of course, Kody has to tell
- 34:16us the story about how Fidelis is on the jewelry, which is
- 34:21Latin for loyalty, right? I'm sorry, you guys, right now
- 34:26I can't even. And that has the heart with the
- 34:29heart on, as you talked about in our previous in our previous
- 34:32episode. In our.
- 34:34Previous episode and it really is beautiful.
- 34:37It's a one-of-a-kind. It's really cool.
- 34:41Really cool. The molds they must have used to
- 34:49Oh, you thought they lacked detail?
- 34:52Very much so. Oh, OK.
- 34:54I thought they looked pristine, like something you would pay
- 34:58thousands of dollars. Sharp and crisp.
- 35:00But if but if it was available wholesale, let let's say guilt
- 35:10Look at me remembering. The mermaids swimming in the
- 35:13background. Quality pieces.
- 35:14I would be enticed to buy them then.
- 35:17Very enticed you wouldn't be able to control yourself.
- 35:22No, the guilt would take over after I bought all the pieces
- 35:26You. Wouldn't be able to put anybody
- 35:28through college after spending all your money on my sister
- 35:32wife's closet jewelry, man. Her second wife to receive her
- 35:40Janelle. She opens up her box and I have
- 35:43to laugh because she just kind of smiles a little and then
- 35:47turns it to the side and shows Christine.
- 35:49And Christine says that is so incredibly awesome.
- 35:54And when I saw it, my reaction was that is so incredibly
- 36:00hideous. It's gigantic.
- 36:03First of all, this thing looks like it's about 3 inches long.
- 36:17It's a huge tree and the leaves on the tree are these giant
- 36:23black stones, and I don't understand because they're
- 36:26probably not real. Do you think they're real
- 36:29something? Well, I didn't think they were
- 36:32black. So I don't know.
- 36:34I don't. I think it's matte black.
- 36:35I don't even think they were stones.
- 36:37Oh. Lord.
- 36:37Either way, I don't know why they're black.
- 36:40It's very strange because it just looks like tree roots and a
- 36:45You're Oh my gosh, I was thinking to myself, Oh well, at
- 36:49least she got stones on hers. No.
- 36:51I was probably wrong. I don't think so.
- 36:53I think it was pretty smooth. Can he get my eyes checked
- 36:57again? God damn, one of the see.
- 37:00That's why you're judging the jewelry so harshly, honey.
- 37:03You're just not seeing. It's just my eyes.
- 37:05It's my eyes. These.
- 37:07Masterpieces. The first thing that I noticed
- 37:14It's one of those key chains that you can break, and it's got
- 37:23you know, kind of break the pieces off and put it back
- 37:26together, however short or long you wanted it.
- 37:28A ball and chain necklace he gave her.
- 37:32That's what she got, The big old
- 37:36But just bigger and larger than those little key chain.
- 37:39Make it your own size things instead.
- 37:41It's just jumbo size that's supposed to go around Janelle
- 37:44neck, her very petite neck. So this has to be kind of big.
- 37:48It's got to be kind of long, you
- 37:50And Kody steps behind Janelle and places the necklace around
- 37:54her, and the wives joke that This is why he gave her that
- 37:58necklace, was to have the opportunity to put it around her
- 38:01neck all intimately in front of all of them in the kitchen.
- 38:05It's bizarre. They're joking is so weird.
- 38:07It makes sense. It's a weird comment to make for
- 38:09one wife. Instead of saying, oh he gave us
- 38:12necklaces so he could touch all of our necks and our
- 38:14decklitages, No, they make it about her.
- 38:20I thought it was about the chain.
- 38:21I thought maybe they were making
- 38:24she wouldn't be able to get it
- 38:27That's honestly what I was thinking.
- 38:30She's like captive that she would never be able to leave
- 38:32because you couldn't get the necklace.
- 38:34All it off. You can't get this off.
- 38:37Oh God. Oh Lord, Oh my.
- 38:39Oh Lord help. Me got this tree around my neck.
- 38:44But Janelle is very earthy, so
- 38:47he thinks of her as dirt. What comes out of the dirt I.
- 38:51Should say Earth. Our third wife to receive her
- 38:55gift is not Christine. So we go out of order here.
- 39:00It's going to be Robyn. Oh, beautiful Robyn.
- 39:04She gets a heart with bird feather wings coming off around
- 39:10it, like fingers off the side of
- 39:14rudimentary creepy looking head with a beak sticking off the
- 39:19top of the heart and it's supposed to be a phoenix and
- 39:21it looks like a Demogorgon's rib cage from Stranger Things.
- 39:26Oh, how specific? I don't understand what this is,
- 39:29but it's one of the creepiest,
- 39:32ever seen. Then I would not hang it on my
- 39:34neck for fear of it stealing my soul.
- 39:37Well, to be fair, you couldn't
- 39:41To be fair, my eyes could not see this thing.
- 39:47But you know, when Robyn's opening up her box, she says.
- 39:49I'm so nervous. This is so nervous because she
- 39:53could sense that it wanted to steal her soul.
- 39:55Well, this for once, Robyn's intuition was actually.
- 39:58Was. We're continuing with the bird
- 40:00theme with Robyn. As we've talked about, not only
- 40:02is she named Robyn, and not only
- 40:07She's going to be getting a gift
- 40:10little bit more about, He says.
- 40:12A long time ago we had a song that both you and I loved and it
- 40:25A phoenix rising out of the ashes is like a goddess?
- 40:29And aren't you guys polygamous? And isn't goddess kind of weird
- 40:32to be doing? I, I don't, I just, I was
- 40:35distracted because I threw up and I had to swallow it quickly,
- 40:40So I kind of got distracted during all of.
- 40:42This When we first heard of his idea for this phoenix, it was
- 40:45due to the fact that she rose from the ashes out of her
- 40:48divorce. Right, right.
- 40:50Like a phoenix from your divorce ashes.
- 40:53She got that beak in that Habsburg jaw and she jutted in
- 41:02I'm wondering what song this could have been where a goddess
- 41:05rises out of the ashes like a phoenix.
- 41:07I'm going. I guess I could have just Google
- 41:13Going to move on from the rib cage necklace.
- 41:15The 4th but not the last. Christine is about to receive
- 41:22her gift, and she gets this heart with etching on one side.
- 41:27It's hollow in the middle.
- 41:30So you get a silver side and an etched side that looks dark.
- 41:34And on the silver side, there's a little fairy Pixie, A Pixie,
- 41:40as Kody would call it, sitting
- 41:43And he says it's like the Pixie is sitting on the moon, on the
- 41:47light side of the moon, but she has her dark side on the other
- 41:50side. Yeah.
- 41:53The dark side of the moon, which
- 41:57thought it looked like it was covered in scales like a fish.
- 41:59That's what it looked like to me.
- 42:01And then when they showed the second shot I saw it looks more
- 42:04like lattice, like it's. Like hatching?
- 42:07What do they call that? It is thatching, right?
- 42:09Like a thatching type of a pattern.
- 42:12Girl, you're asking me about a
- 42:13I just called it lattice. I don't know, it's just
- 42:15crisscross and it's just weird
- 42:18and so it looked to me like scales.
- 42:21Either way, it just looks like a
- 42:23and half dirty black fish scales or something.
- 42:26I don't I not appealing. And Christine definitely felt
- 42:30the unappeal of this necklace as
- 42:32She looks unexcited and she's just kind of looking at it
- 42:37there. Would you just look at it?
- 42:40Just look at it, Robyn. And.
- 42:42Robyn was just looking at it too.
- 42:45And she goes, do you love it? And Christine says, yeah, it's
- 42:50nice. And Chris and I would have said
- 42:54is. Different.
- 42:55It's different. It's different.
- 42:57Would you look at it? Just look at it.
- 43:00It's different. And Christine says in commentary
- 43:04she doesn't like the etching. It makes it look harsh, and I
- 43:08agree. Actually, Christine's piece of
- 43:11jewelry is probably my favorite of all of them.
- 43:14But the half of it, the half of it with the fairy sitting on
- 43:17the shiny side, is cute. Yeah, I'd used it for a key
- 43:22chain. Yeah, with Janelle's rope
- 43:25necklace around it as a key chain on my backpack when I was
- 43:2710. Right.
- 43:28Well, it aligns with your childhood interest in the
- 43:31fairies from Ireland or whatever, of course.
- 43:34Yes. But Christine doesn't seem to
- 43:37like it, as you were saying. And you know Kody's not going to
- 43:40be beat down by Christine's disappointment in his thoughtful
- 43:43gift. He says it's OK, you don't like
- 43:45it, you inspired me to make it, and you'll still inspire me to
- 43:50do more. Like he's going to fix this,
- 43:55he's going to make something better, and she's still
- 43:57inspiring him. And it's the phoniest bullshit
- 44:01ever. Yeah, well, they're not even
- 44:03looking at each other. He wraps it up by saying I've
- 44:05got this. And I thought, what you what do
- 44:08you mean you've got this? Like, what is that?
- 44:11What do you? What is that?
- 44:13These two people are not connected at all right now.
- 44:15It is so bizarre. He's talking about himself
- 44:17making it better as if he's solving a problem.
- 44:19And meanwhile, it's like, this
- 44:21because you did it anyway. And I don't know that's true.
- 44:26This makes me hate men so much.
- 44:28The through line in this jewelry is very much so that it is a man
- 44:37So instead of it being shiny
- 44:40pretty pieces of silver, he took
- 44:44He had them etch into the metal and where the inlays were were
- 44:49filled with black. If he would have left that
- 44:53etched but left it silver inside
- 44:58would have been pretty and shiny
- 45:03But Christine is right, she doesn't like it.
- 45:04It makes it look harsh. It makes it look masculine.
- 45:08All of these pieces look very masculine, and I kind of can't
- 45:13believe that Gina allowed it. I was going to say Moreno
- 45:16Enterprises here. She got my mustard seed last
- 45:19time and I'm regretting it. I can't believe that she allowed
- 45:24for the black to be inlaid in the etching.
- 45:27One of your biggest regrets in
- 45:29One of my biggest regrets is. Giving Gina that fucking mustard
- 45:32seed God. Damn it, Gina.
- 45:34Disappointment. Disappointment.
- 45:39Damn Gina. You let me down.
- 45:43She really did. This is pretty awful.
- 45:46Yeah. I wouldn't have put this out.
- 45:47Hideous. I wouldn't have done it, but
- 45:50that's just me. Pat is coming to town, coming to
- 45:56the cul-de-sac. Pat coming to meet the family.
- 46:00Oh. Pat, our dearly devoted and
- 46:03loved therapist from the Greater
- 46:07Coming all the way to the Brown family cul-de-sac from Lehigh
- 46:11is A1 Pat. Don't hear her last name.
- 46:16Holy shit. Very enthusiastic about Pat's
- 46:18visit. Is Kimber.
- 46:19Everyone is. Oh, everyone's very excited.
- 46:22Everyone's so excited about it.
- 46:23Well, I felt starstruck because I thought, is this Lyle Lovett
- 46:29But no, it's a softer version of Lyle Lovett, a more lesbian
- 46:33looking version. Pat.
- 46:35And I thought, are we about to get a musical number from Miss
- 46:47Miss Hannibal. Well, also I just remembering
- 46:50now that I feel there's a vintage SNL skit about someone
- 47:01It's just Pat, and it's totally that name that works, and Pat
- 47:04fits the part. Pat fits the part here.
- 47:07Pat has freshly dyed hair. She gives us an introduction of
- 47:12her own. Because Pat introduces herself.
- 47:15Because Pat is Pat.
- 47:16She's a feminist. And Pat says the Browns are the
- 47:21first polygamous family that I
- 47:25I've known them for five years
- 47:28And we heard a little record scratch a mouse.
- 47:31A little tiny mouse went. Well, not only that, she's never
- 47:36even paid attention to polygamy,
- 47:39started working with the Browns.
- 47:40So I rat scratched the record. Oh yeah, Pat Rat scratched that
- 47:46Pat record. These liars.
- 47:49These dirty, dirty, lying Browns.
- 47:52Why are they liars, honey? They said that Pat was a
- 47:56specialist in plural relationship.
- 47:59They absolutely did. Come to find out she didn't give
- 48:06Interesting. Now, five years after working
- 48:09with the Browns, she's a specialist in IT.
- 48:11A How does one get a specialty in plural marriage, eh?
- 48:16Perhaps working with the Browns for five years, eh?
- 48:18They. Probably solved a lot of
- 48:20problems during that time. Clearly they're well adjusted.
- 48:26nests in the brown family. This one.
- 48:28As we see Pat moseying through the homes at the Brown family
- 48:32cul-de-sac, we hear Meri telling Pat that Meri still needs to
- 48:35figure out who she is. And I love it because Pat goes
- 48:41Which I love. What a great response.
- 48:44Yeah, you sure do. Which is a little contrary to
- 48:48what Pat says later here. She says that first Meri and
- 48:52Kody saw her for communication. So I think that Meri and Kody
- 48:58went to her individually to begin with.
- 49:01OK. And then as they felt they could
- 49:08secret and hide from everybody for so long.
- 49:10That makes sense. Everybody started trickling in
- 49:18Even Robyn knows her. So this was during the show that
- 49:27These fucking liars.
- 49:28I would like to say again, Pat
- 49:33of the issues were resolved. Including the family's use of
- 49:37angry voices and their fears. But luckily these issues were
- 49:41resolved. Prayings are complicated.
- 49:47How were these issues resolved?
- 49:49And isn't that a bit weird for a therapist to say I is anything
- 49:56That a therapist would say the issues were resolved?
- 50:00No. We're always ongoing.
- 50:02We're always growing, we're always learning.
- 50:04There is growth to be had. There is new opinions to be had.
- 50:13were resolved? It's a very bizarre statement
- 50:17for a therapist to say. I it was a huge red flag for me
- 50:21and I'm no therapist. Large red flag.
- 50:23Yeah, I'm going. I don't really think that
- 50:25anything's ever labeled resolved.
- 50:27I don't really know what that means.
- 50:29Maybe a math problem? Yeah, right.
- 50:31Oh, God. Like you paid the bill on time
- 50:33that month. Well, I guess my billing is
- 50:35resolved. It's not.
- 50:36Oh, I have trust issues, but I
- 50:38It's resolved. Like what?
- 50:40Things always rear their ugly head, Pat, and you should know
- 50:43that. And if you don't, I'm concerned,
- 50:47deeply concerned. Well, Pat, you know, she was so
- 50:50distracted by learning about this polygamist family so that
- 50:53she could become a polygamist expert.
- 50:55She was too busy singing Annie
- 51:01From Lyle Lovett. I don't know any Lyle Lovett
- 51:02songs, but you know, he does have that jet black hair, which
- 51:05is why I was going. Yeah, the Lyle Lovett look here
- 51:08I. Just can't believe she was too
- 51:09busy focused on her music career
- 51:13issues can be resolved. OK, clearly and with these
- 51:17people, I'm suspicious of how much time Pat has spent with
- 51:21them and really knows about them.
- 51:22If she thinks any of their issues are resolved, that's
- 51:25ridiculous. I think that these guys are such
- 51:27good liars and they're so used
- 51:29people's eyes that they probably
- 51:33we're going to find out some of them do.
- 51:38Pat tells us that the family going to Sedona, she's concerned
- 51:41for them because not everyone is
- 51:45new therapist. Oh, we're getting Nancy involved
- 51:49here, throwing in a new therapist, and not everyone's
- 51:51going to be as open to starting with her.
- 51:54We go to Christine's house where
- 51:58pretty cute because we've got little Truly on the bed and
- 52:03Christine sitting on the edge of the bed and Pat's there and
- 52:05they're catching up a little bit and Truly is excited to see
- 52:09her, which makes me think perhaps they did therapy
- 52:11sessions at the house. I don't know.
- 52:13She knows. She seems to know the kids a
- 52:15bit. And I noticed that Christine's
- 52:18house is very sparse, and what
- 52:23some random furniture here and
- 52:28signs and they don't even fit the wall.
- 52:31They're way too small for the area that they're hung in.
- 52:35Well, why buy one big sign that you can put on one wall when
- 52:37you could buy six small ones and
- 52:40Randomly at different heights throughout your house.
- 52:45Girl, I know. I think it's funny that you
- 52:48think Pat knows Truly, because I
- 52:51up and slammed her into the ground like a bouncy ball.
- 52:54And I thought, wow, how violent Pat.
- 52:57My goodness. After this abrupt truly slamming
- 53:04we get to go to Sedona. We arrive in Sedona, AZ at
- 53:12Spirit quest. We get to meet the Co founders
- 53:17of Spirit Quest and and Catherine.
- 53:21Oh, I missed their names. I was noting down male host, so
- 53:25if I refer to Ed as male host,
- 53:28catch his name. It's the manliest man named
- 53:30Everett, Ed. Ed.
- 53:33Oh yeah, I have some Eds and it's definitely Ed.
- 53:35Yeah. Now, before they arrive at
- 53:37Sedona, Christine lets us know
- 53:41She's not looking forward to Sedona at all because she thinks
- 53:44this might just open a can of worms.
- 53:48And I thought, wow. In this interview done in the
- 53:51future, Christine can really see
- 53:54the potential future by letting us know that a can of worms
- 53:57could be opened on this trip. And if anyone's going to help
- 54:00them with their opening of the
- 54:04Ed is in touch with himself. He's in touch with many parts of
- 54:07himself, and he could be in touch with many parts of you
- 54:09all. Kody describes Eddon Catherine
- 54:12as cowboy hippies. His favorite word is hippie.
- 54:17Oh God, he says hippie so many
- 54:19In the But the peace sign that
- 54:21Everyone's a hippie, everyone's a hippie, things are hippie
- 54:24ish, people are hippies, blah blah blah.
- 54:26At some point throughout this episode, Christine says every
- 54:29time you say hippie, we cringe.
- 54:31We just cringe. We hate it.
- 54:33Don't say hippie, Kody. Yes, he won't stop.
- 54:35He's. All the time.
- 54:37He does, he says hippie like 37 times in this episode.
- 54:39Christine, I'm with you. I'm with you.
- 54:42It's cringe worthy cowboy hippies on top of it.
- 54:45No way. No way.
- 54:49But to rest them assured and tells them, don't worry,
- 54:55millions of people from many faiths around the world use
- 54:58meditation to get in touch with themselves.
- 55:00So while we venture out to the red rocks, another return to the
- 55:06Let it in. Let it touch you where you need
- 55:09to be touched. Bed is about to lead this
- 55:12meditation, and as it gets started, Kody starts feeling a
- 55:20little fingers. It's ants.
- 55:24Literal. Ants.
- 55:25Ants are crawling all over the ground.
- 55:28They show a close up. They're all sitting on yoga mats
- 55:41Kody loses it and says I can't meditate like this, I need to
- 55:46move, I need to go somewhere else, can't get into my Zen
- 55:50hippie mode. And it does crack me up because
- 55:55I think Robyn is the one that points out that the ants start
- 56:03Yes. And they start climbing up Ed
- 56:06and they're all over Ed during the meditation.
- 56:09And he's totally sitting there like the monkey from Lion King,
- 56:15just meditating totally in his own.
- 56:18He's Ed. He's cool, calm and collected.
- 56:24never be able to meditate with bugs crawling on me.
- 56:28Like what? No, we've got our Rafiki and
- 56:31sitting there, Rafiki chilling like a little villain, and
- 56:36everyone else is looking around except for Janelle.
- 56:40Janelle is so grateful. She loves us.
- 56:44She's the hippie dippie of the family.
- 56:46She totally is. She tried to live in that teepee
- 56:51You know, forget about. That you know, she's very
- 56:53earthy, just like the tree with the black leaves.
- 56:56The Ant thing would send me. It would.
- 57:01It would send me off the edge of those red rocks.
- 57:03Yeah, for real. Ants are one of the grossest
- 57:05things ever. When you see a clump of ants on
- 57:08a sidewalk just on top of a piece of food or something.
- 57:11No, it's like. The way they gather makes it
- 57:14look like a surface is moving. It's just not right.
- 57:17And I know it's not very Zen, it's not very Rafiki, but I
- 57:20would not be able to sit there and let ants crawl on any parts
- 57:24of my body and be oh so in touch with my aura and what's
- 57:28happening? This is one of you guys I got
- 57:31to, I got to tell you this. This is one of the many times I
- 57:35agree with Kody during this episode.
- 57:37One of the many times. I'm going to say it.
- 57:40I thought you were going to say this is one of my biggest fears
- 57:42because you like to say that a lot too.
- 57:44There's been many times in the show where you're like, it's one
- 57:50biggest fears being covered in ants.
- 57:52This is like your 17th biggest fear You're.
- 57:55Going to get in the cringes so bad right now.
- 57:57Now I'm like geeking. Oh my God, We've had ants come
- 58:06they coming from? If it's right here, if they're
- 58:11Until we started doing this show together, honey, I had no idea
- 58:18This is one of the things with
- 58:20I try not to ever react in front
- 58:24I don't want them to have my fears.
- 58:25I'm like. Meh.
- 58:27Stone faced. Don't let them see your fears
- 58:29because you don't want them to
- 58:33what happens. To live a life like you mom
- 58:36living in fear. Thanks mom but this no way no
- 58:41how. Kody, I agree with you.
- 58:45This episode is disturbing for
- 58:50I, I, I could go on and on. No, not right now, but I'm
- 58:54agreeing with Kody. Hey.
- 58:56You know, it pains. Listen, it pains me to do it
- 58:58when I have to do it. It's painful.
- 59:00This entire episode is going to be painful for me because it's
- 59:02going to happen many times. It's one of your biggest fears.
- 59:04This is relating to Kody Brown.
- 59:06OH. No, I'm going to have nightmares
- 59:19center, their ALM, their whatnot.
- 59:21They all sit down with Nancy indoors and she gives them the
- 59:29And she starts with Meri. And I was very happy because she
- 59:38a reformer. And I was going, oh, I love that
- 59:43they are. We don't.
- 59:45We only get married. We only get married.
- 59:47Yep. So, you know, Meri is driven to
- 59:51speak the truth. At times it may be brutal in its
- 59:58And as Nancy is sharing this with Meri, she starts to get
- 1:00:03emotional. It's easy to get emotional when
- 1:00:05people are sharing things with you about your perceived self.
- 1:00:14You have a compulsion to speak. Oh.
- 1:00:17Which is very merry coded. I feel like Meri has a
- 1:00:23compulsion for a lot of things. Wet bars.
- 1:00:27Wet bars, speaking, telling her truth.
- 1:00:32Standing over people telling them what to do.
- 1:00:35Making sure that things are even and centered, and that they
- 1:00:39aren't tilted this way or that. Yeah, she's particular that.
- 1:00:44Very particular Kody says that he sees these things, these
- 1:00:51personality answers, as a way to learn how to deal with his
- 1:00:59wives. And he's highlighting to us that
- 1:01:05So managing is the word that he uses to describe the way he's
- 1:01:10trying to approach this information about his lovely
- 1:01:13wives. And Nancy points out that that
- 1:01:22wives hot off the heels of discussing Meri's feelings.
- 1:01:27Oh, God. And it's true.
- 1:01:30He shouldn't be doing that. And we all know this, that the
- 1:01:34So we caught an example, I guess.
- 1:01:37And this gives Robyn an opportunity to enlighten us
- 1:01:40further where she says that Nancy is aggressive.
- 1:01:44And Janelle says, well, she doesn't think Nancy's
- 1:01:47aggressive. She thinks Nancy's assertive.
- 1:01:50Yeah, Janelle would switch up that wording.
- 1:01:53Nancy says that Kody needs to be more empathetic, not to use this
- 1:02:04with his wives, to understand how they're feeling, not how to
- 1:02:09use it to manipulate essentially and.
- 1:02:12Right. Yeah, while we're getting these
- 1:02:15couch moments, when they're reflecting on their time with
- 1:02:18Nancy, we have Meri on the far left and then Robyn, Kody in the
- 1:02:25And I'm only pointing this out because it seems like we do get
- 1:02:29these scenarios often where Robyn is, maybe not often, but
- 1:02:35It's like Kody's in the middle and then you got Robyn and then
- 1:02:38Meri on the other side, which I feel is very Speaking of their
- 1:02:46Yeah. And then we have Christine on
- 1:02:48the other side and Janelle, which, you know, I don't really
- 1:02:51know. I don't really read into that
- 1:02:53too much. You could switch Christine and
- 1:03:00Robyn is being super defensive of Kody and Robyn says they all
- 1:03:06need to be invested in their relationships with each other
- 1:03:10too, not just their relationship with Kody.
- 1:03:12And I'm making that sound super intelligent because I had to
- 1:03:16decipher what she was saying. She didn't just come out and say
- 1:03:22lazy in their relationships emotionally with each other.
- 1:03:25And as she is saying this on the couch, I noticed that Meri and
- 1:03:37exact same position. They're wearing jeans that could
- 1:03:43shirts over long sleeve tops that could be twins.
- 1:03:46And they're mirroring each other's sitting position
- 1:03:51exactly. So it's Meri, Rob and Kody on
- 1:03:56the couch, and Robyn is speaking and Meri's nodding her head and
- 1:04:03they're twinning. Yeah, they are twinning.
- 1:04:06It's super creepy and I want to know who is mimicking who.
- 1:04:13Is Meri mimicking Robyn because she wants to be in a favor with
- 1:04:20Kody and close to Robyn. This is a tale as old as time
- 1:04:25tactic right? Like if you are in a meeting
- 1:04:28with your boss and your boss is sitting with their arms crossed,
- 1:04:34If your boss has an open body posture and has their hands on
- 1:04:40You need to be relatable, and to be relatable, you would mirror
- 1:04:50And I believe that Meri is mirroring Robyn.
- 1:04:53Yeah, and the baseline, as you know, just some typical man,
- 1:04:59just some idiot here, Meri picks up on Robyn getting approval
- 1:05:03from Kody and being in Kody's good graces.
- 1:05:05And so adapting that and putting it on herself would make sense.
- 1:05:10Oh, God.
- 1:05:11And while this was happening, you asked if I was noticing what
- 1:05:14you were noticing. And I didn't know what you were
- 1:05:15noticing. I didn't pick up on that.
- 1:05:17So I even said, oh, well, I don't know.
- 1:05:18And then as I was looking, I noticed that Robyn has French
- 1:05:21tip toenails. And the French tip toenails were
- 1:05:24like ice white. And I go, Oh my gosh, those
- 1:05:28French tips are white. So I thought that's what you
- 1:05:30were talking about. I didn't quite pick up on the
- 1:05:33exact same way that they were sitting and that they were
- 1:05:35basically wearing the same clothes with different colored
- 1:05:37shirts. I wanted you to see it because
- 1:05:39it was creepy. It was Stepford wives ish.
- 1:05:44It was odd and I'm not sure if
- 1:05:50with Kody or Meri trying to gain
- 1:05:53Oh, sure. OK.
- 1:05:55Or vice versa. Yeah, there are so many
- 1:05:58dichotomies here. I could see either one.
- 1:06:01I could see it being both. You know, two birds, one stone.
- 1:06:04I could too. Two Well, there's another bird
- 1:06:07tie in for Robyn. The shirts they're wearing over
- 1:06:10their long sleeves are Affliction ish type shirts with
- 1:06:12see through parts T-shirts that have scattered like scratch
- 1:06:19looking marks on them like Affliction with see through ish
- 1:06:22parts. And it's of the time, very of
- 1:06:26the time, something I would have
- 1:06:29sleeve under it and a bra showing on purpose or some
- 1:06:33bullshit. Speaking of trying to look like
- 1:06:36people, Colleen. Anyway, Nancy asks if in order
- 1:06:43their authentic communications with each other?
- 1:06:45Well, I wonder if that's what they need to do, Nancy.
- 1:06:48You know, do they need significant improvement on their
- 1:06:54What a great question. Should they be not just polite
- 1:07:00Now we do know that this is true, that they do need
- 1:07:05significant improvements on their relationships and in
- 1:07:07communications, and being authentic but polite and
- 1:07:10coexisting was quite a significant statement, I
- 1:07:13thought. And, you know, they basically
- 1:07:16are coexisting. And Janelle says something here.
- 1:07:21home. Janelle says she's at a point
- 1:07:25where she is happy being separate.
- 1:07:27She's there. She just doesn't feel that
- 1:07:30invested. She's there with the family.
- 1:07:34She is coexisting. As Nancy said, she doesn't feel
- 1:07:39that invested. She doesn't feel the need to put
- 1:07:42more of her time and energy into
- 1:07:46She's happy being separate. Which aligns with her vibe
- 1:07:49overall that we've had from basically the beginning of the
- 1:07:51show. But she is saying this out loud
- 1:07:55in a session with a therapist where they're getting to know
- 1:07:57each other, and it's quite telling.
- 1:07:59I mean, she's being honest. She's in front of everyone when
- 1:08:02she says this. Yeah, she's also.
- 1:08:03Saying in front of the people she's coexisting with her sister
- 1:08:06wives and her husband. Yeah, this might be one of the
- 1:08:09first times they do pin it as a shocking moment.
- 1:08:13Yeah, yeah. It's not shocking.
- 1:08:14We all know it, We all see it,
- 1:08:18They're pretending to be shocked
- 1:08:21someone's actually said it out
- 1:08:23OK, Yeah, yeah. And then they decide to go on a
- 1:08:27walk. Oh, this show is so TLC.
- 1:08:32It is so TLC. Dropping the bomb.
- 1:08:35Can you believe it? We're going to go on a walk.
- 1:08:37Why is Kody happy to go on a walk?
- 1:08:40I don't know why is Kody happy
- 1:08:43feels like he's doing all the heavy lifting emotionally.
- 1:08:46When I have expressed myself and
- 1:08:50deepest, darkest shaved regions of myself, then I want to go on
- 1:08:56a walk. You're manscaping again.
- 1:08:58Oh, you know, I haven't stopped manscaping.
- 1:09:01I let it go a little bit last week.
- 1:09:02And then I thought, Chris, you
- 1:09:04You never know. You never know when Kimber's
- 1:09:06going to walk into the bathroom on you again.
- 1:09:08You better take care. Of it and startle me.
- 1:09:12Kody says that he is relieved to
- 1:09:16like he is doing all the heavy
- 1:09:20Emotionally, I don't really have
- 1:09:25Hey, you know, someone might think I have the stomach to
- 1:09:28manage for women, and I'm going to say that out loud, manage
- 1:09:31for women, but it's all just fat.
- 1:09:34The tummy itself is actually really small, so I wouldn't be
- 1:09:40hopefully this walk would lead us to a place on the red rocks
- 1:09:45It was quite blustery. I was distracted because their
- 1:09:50pictures. And it looked like, Oh my God,
- 1:09:54mountain. They're all taking pictures,
- 1:09:56they're posing for pictures and we get Robyn, we get Meri, we
- 1:10:03get Christine posing for a picture together, being all
- 1:10:07cutesy tootsy. No, Janelle.
- 1:10:09No, not at first, because the three wives decide to descend on
- 1:10:18And Janelle crouches down in front and they take a picture
- 1:10:22with Janelle and it's all he he he he ha ha ha ha.
- 1:10:27And then Nancy says that she thinks that this is the first
- 1:10:31time that she has seen the wives truly connect.
- 1:10:35Forced photography connects us all.
- 1:10:39Well, I think it's funny because by the end of this little
- 1:10:44montage of them taking photos, I thought that they did look like
- 1:10:47they were genuinely having a good time taking these pictures.
- 1:10:53denial and I'm delusional? Probably, but there's something
- 1:10:56about a staged photo where everyone looks happy that makes
- 1:10:59me buy into it. I actually thought it was cute
- 1:11:02that Janelle was taking the photo, didn't want to be a part
- 1:11:06of it, and then they forced her to.
- 1:11:08Yeah, it was cute. Yeah, I mean, I wouldn't write a
- 1:11:12book about it, but I wasn't also
- 1:11:14terrible. I thought it was all right.
- 1:11:16I wasn't scared that one of them
- 1:11:18one off of the red rocks, so. That's a good sign.
- 1:11:22Janelle was wearing a red shirt.
- 1:11:25Yes, she was wearing a shirt and it was red.
- 1:11:30She always wears these solid colored shirts that are like.
- 1:11:34They're either priMeri or like 1 shade off.
- 1:11:36I'm just saying she. Was wearing a bright red shirt
- 1:11:41No, if it isn't bright red, it's bright blue.
- 1:11:44Or it's black and it's shiny. It's usually purple, shiny,
- 1:11:48black, shiny. A lot of shine.
- 1:11:51Oh God, well I'm sorry. Luckily, through this experience
- 1:11:56Nancy talks about how she's glad
- 1:12:00first session because it really helped her to get to know the
- 1:12:03family. She got to ease in there.
- 1:12:05Pat was the Lube of introducing Nancy to this polygamist
- 1:12:10family. She.
- 1:12:10Eased her into the situation. That's just the tip.
- 1:12:14And as we say goodbye to Pat, it feels like a good time to say
- 1:12:19goodbye to you. Goodbye.
- 1:12:20This is our second episode in a row where we're going to have to
- 1:12:29fit it all in. Too much.
- 1:12:31Too much, too much of a good thing here on my Sister Wives
- 1:12:35podcast. So come back on Thursday.
- 1:12:37Part 2 will be dropping here. TTFN Tata for now.
