- Lucas: Welcome back, Luna. We're at the mic again, and it's good to have you here. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I'm ready. Last episode we hit the night market and got some drinks. That was a tasty lesson. Lucas: It was. And you know, we had such a good time that I thought we'd do a quick review today. Nothing new, just cement those phrases. Luna: Yes, I need that. I've already forgotten half of it. Lucas: No worries. Let's start with the most useful one. Imagine you're at the night market, you're hot, you want a cold drink. How do you say 'I want to drink something cold'? Luna: Uhh, is it 我想飲凍嘢? Lucas: Perfect. 我想飲凍嘢. Let's break it down: 我 means I, 想 means want, 飲 is to drink, 凍嘢 is cold stuff. Put it together: 我想飲凍嘢. Luna: 我想飲凍嘢. I like how 凍嘢 sounds, like 'dong yeh'. Lucas: Yeah, 凍嘢 is cold things, but in context it's something cold to drink. So at the night market, you say 我想飲凍嘢, and the vendor knows exactly what you want. Luna: Let me try a scene. I'm at the stall, it's super hot. I say 我想飲凍嘢. Lucas: Perfect. And the vendor might ask, 'What would you like?' So you need to know how to say 'a glass of orange juice'. Luna: Oh, that's 一杯橙汁, right? 一杯 is a cup or glass, 橙汁 is orange juice. Lucas: Exactly. 一杯橙汁. Just remember 一杯 is for cups of things, like drinks. Luna: 一杯橙汁. Sounds nice and smooth. Lucas: And if you want it without ice, you say 走冰. 走 means go away, 冰 is ice. So 走冰 means 'no ice'. Luna: Oh, that's handy. 走冰. I like that it's so direct. Lucas: Yeah, Cantonese is often like that. So you can put it all together: 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. That means 'Excuse me, I'd like a glass of orange juice, no ice.' Luna: 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. That's a mouthful, but I'll practice. Lucas: And don't forget the question you'll need to ask: 幾多錢? That's 'how much is it?' Luna: 幾多錢. I remember that one. It's so useful everywhere. Lucas: Absolutely. You'll use it at any market, any shop. So let's review all five phrases. Say them with me: 我想飲凍嘢. Luna: 我想飲凍嘢. Lucas: 一杯橙汁. Luna: 一杯橙汁. Lucas: 走冰. Luna: 走冰. Lucas: 幾多錢. Luna: 幾多錢. Lucas: And the full order: 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. Luna: 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. That's a complete sentence, isn't it? Lucas: It is. You'd be ready to order at any night market. And you know, practicing these little phrases is exactly what makes a language stick. Luna: For sure. I've been trying to use them in my head when I'm out, like when I see a drink. Lucas: That's the spirit. And if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Cantonese, a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. You can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps. And it keeps the show ad-free, which is great. Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's put those phrases into a little scene. Imagine you're at the night market, it's warm, you see a stall. What do you say? Luna: I'd walk up and say 我想飲凍嘢. Lucas: Good. And the vendor asks what you want. You say 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. Luna: 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰. Lucas: Then you ask 幾多錢. Luna: 幾多錢. Lucas: And the vendor says ten dollars. You hand over the money and say 多謝. Luna: Oh, I remember 多謝 from earlier episodes. That's thank you. Lucas: Right. So the whole exchange works. Let's do it one more time, but this time you say all the phrases. Luna: Okay. 我想飲凍嘢... 唔該,我想要一杯橙汁,走冰... 幾多錢? Lucas: Perfect. You nailed it. See, review really helps. Luna: I feel more confident now. Maybe I can try it for real this weekend. Lucas: You should. It's a great way to practice. And remember, repetition is your friend. Keep saying these out loud. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. This was a nice refresher. Lucas: Anytime. That's all for today. Practice these until we chat again. See you next time. Luna: See you, everyone. Bye.
