Transcript Welcome to Hot Tea for Saturday, October 3, 2026. This episode uses an A I-generated voice. We'll start with a New York report on entry-level job postings. Then we'll check September payrolls and revised earlier estimates. Applied Digital reports more data center capacity ready for service. The chipmaker plans a smaller DGX Spark for later this month. Finally, researchers used machine learning to adjust room-temperature solar-material synthesis. Their cost estimate depends on production assumptions. New York report says entry-level design, media and writing postings fell 40.6 percent. The Partnership for New York City published a report on October second about job postings, A I skills and office leasing. It found that annual entry-level postings in design, media and writing had fallen 40.6 percent since 2022. Clerical and administrative postings fell thirty point five percent. Finance postings fell 23.4 percent. Over the same period, entry-level postings mentioning A I skills rose 55 percent, according to the report. Employers sought people who could apply, deploy and supervise A I systems. The report draws on Lightcast job advertisements, federal employment data and Stanford's A I exposure index. That index measures how much A I could augment the skills used in an occupation. It doesn't count tasks that employers have automated. The group also reports that A I companies leased more than 2.2 million square feet of New York office space. Those leases took place in the first half of 2026. That's more than twice the 936,000 square feet leased during all of 2025. The report urges the city to track entry-level opportunities alongside investment and office expansion. The Partnership is a business advocacy group, and these are its findings. Job postings don't show hires, layoffs or how many workers A I displaced. The analysis doesn't establish that A I caused the declines. Office leases don't show how many people a company employs. Actual hiring and training placements could tell us more. Those records could show whether these advertised jobs are reaching new workers. U S. payrolls rose 29,000 in September as earlier estimates were revised down by 60,000. The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its September employment estimates on October second. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 29,000 jobs, and unemployment was 4.2 percent. B L S said both measures changed little. The agency revised July from a gain of 21,000 jobs to a loss of 10,000. It also revised August's gain from 162,000 to 133,000. Together, those revisions put July and August employment 60,000 below the earlier estimates. The numbers come from two separate surveys. Employers report payroll jobs, hours and earnings through the establishment survey. The household survey tracks people's employment status and provides the unemployment rate. B L S revises the estimates as more employer reports arrive and seasonal factors are updated. These national estimates don't show job losses caused by A I. September's payroll estimate is still preliminary, so it may change. Combining it with the New York posting data still wouldn't tell us how many workers A I displaced. B L S has scheduled the next employment report for November sixth. That report could revise September's first estimate. Applied Digital says another 75 megawatts at Polaris Forge 1 is ready for service. Applied Digital announced on October second that three more data halls at Polaris Forge 1 were ready for service. Each hall adds 25 megawatts of capacity for computing equipment. Together, they add 75 megawatts in Building 2. This critical I T load measures computing capacity, not electricity generated at the site. The company says this delivery completes Building 2's 150 megawatts. It also brings the Ellendale, North Dakota, campus to 250 megawatts of critical I T load in operation. The fully leased campus is contracted to reach 400 megawatts after the full buildout. That total remains a future target. These capacity and completion figures come from the company. Its release doesn't independently measure customer usage, occupied server capacity or revenue. Ready-for-service status doesn't mean customers are using every megawatt. Future operating reports and delivery milestones could show how much capacity customers use. They could also show when the remaining buildout is completed. the chipmaker announces a 64-gigabyte DGX Spark starting at 4,999 dollars, due October 23. The chipmaker announced a DGX Spark configuration with 64 gigabytes of unified memory on October second. The company says it will be available exclusively through manufacturer partners on October twenty-third, starting at 4,999 dollars. The system keeps the GB10 Grace Blackwell chip and DGX OS used by the 128-gigabyte model. The chipmaker says the smaller configuration can run models with up to 100 billion parameters locally. It says two linked units can pool 128 gigabytes of memory and support models with up to 200 billion parameters. The chipmaker also plans to release its Sync Model Launcher at the end of October. The launcher is intended to download and run supported local models on one system or a cluster. October second was the announcement date, not the availability date. The chipmaker's model-size limits do not independently prove how every model will perform. The company reported a speedup of up to 1.7 times in a specific Qwen 3.8 27B test. The test used two machines, each with 64 gigabytes of memory. Watch the actual partner listings and independent tests after launch. They could show prices and performance for specific models. Researchers use A I to adjust a room-temperature process for making solar-cell crystals. A Nature Communications paper published October second describes a room-temperature method for making perovskite nanocrystals. These tiny crystals are used in solar-cell materials. The researchers combined automated synthesis with machine learning. The system adjusted how much of each chemical entered the process. Their best laboratory photovoltaic device reached 19.37 percent power conversion efficiency. That's the top-performing device, not the average across all the devices. The authors estimate that continuous-flow production could make the nanocrystal material for two dollars and sixteen cents per gram. They compare that with one hundred eighteen dollars and eighty-one cents per gram for a conventional hot-injection method. But the two estimates don't use the same pricing basis. The flow estimate uses industry-scale chemical prices, while the controls use laboratory-scale prices. The calculation also assumes that automated synthesis needs little human oversight. These figures cover the cost of making nanocrystal material, not solar panels or electricity. The comparison also depends on the chemistry, solvents, continuous-flow process and labor assumptions. Machine learning alone can't account for the estimated saving. The accepted manuscript may still receive final edits, and it doesn't show commercial factory production. Independent replication, production measurements and long-term device tests could test these results outside this laboratory setup. That is the signal before the noise.
