Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Andrews, thank you very much. Back you're a cracking head coach,
- 0:02Speaker 1: Lane Lambert and Calgary and Lane pretty crazier as far
- 0:04Speaker 1: as this upcoming schedule with nothing as far as the
- 0:07Speaker 1: two days off in between really until this next month.
- 0:09Speaker 1: So we talked to Jerry McCann about the value of rest.
- 0:12Speaker 1: What about that part and how these guys manage their
- 0:14Speaker 1: bodies is really going to play a positive effect with
- 0:18Speaker 1: weighing into how this team progresses through out this next month.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Well, we're going to have to be smart with that.
- 0:23Speaker 2: I don't anticipate us practicing very much. And you know what,
- 0:26Speaker 2: we're not the only team in the league. We obviously
- 0:29Speaker 2: play the most games, but maybe it's the most games
- 0:32Speaker 2: by a game or two, so everybody's playing a lot.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I don't think there's going to be a lot of
- 0:36Speaker 2: teams in a national hockey league that are going to
- 0:38Speaker 2: be practicing that much. Rest is a weapon and you
- 0:41Speaker 2: have to have energy in order to play the games.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And that's what we're going to look forward to.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Going going back to Friday at Vancouver in a game
- 0:48Speaker 1: that went right down to the wire, I can't help
- 0:51Speaker 1: but think of the great analogy you made as far
- 0:53Speaker 1: as a shootout where you're lining up a putt in golf,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and it comes down to like a pressure situation. So
- 0:58Speaker 1: when you think about it, for a guy like Matty
- 1:01Speaker 1: ben Ears to make the move that he made, how
- 1:03Speaker 1: much work has he put into being able to meet
- 1:05Speaker 1: that kind of moment? Ah?
- 1:07Speaker 2: Well, I mean it's Maddy. You know, Maddy relishes those
- 1:11Speaker 2: kind of moments. So the question probably is why hasn't
- 1:13Speaker 2: he gone until then? You know, we uh we felt
- 1:18Speaker 2: like you know, he could he could do it in
- 1:21Speaker 2: that moment, and he did it in that moment, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: you know it was nice to see our team get
- 1:25Speaker 2: a get a shootout win. And certainly, you know, just
- 1:30Speaker 2: in in terms of his entire game, Maddy relishes, uh,
- 1:34Speaker 2: you know, the moments where they matter, you know, whether
- 1:37Speaker 2: it be three on three in overtime or whether it
- 1:39Speaker 2: be uh you know, five on six when he's out
- 1:43Speaker 2: there trying to protect the lead. You know he has
- 1:45Speaker 2: that ability and that sort of ice in his veins
- 1:48Speaker 2: to do that kind of thing.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Is linemate. And your captain Jordan Eberley has got a
- 1:52Speaker 1: big night ahead here and played an in career game
- 1:54Speaker 1: number eleven hundreds. So for as long as you have
- 1:56Speaker 1: known him and watched him, what kind of value has
- 1:59Speaker 1: he given this team there for the season.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Well, he's been great. He's been a great leader for us.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I knew him, you know, four years ago, four or
- 2:08Speaker 2: five years ago when I was with him in the Island.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I've seen him grow from that standpoint in a leadership
- 2:14Speaker 2: role here. And you know, hats off to him for
- 2:20Speaker 2: playing eleven hundred games. There's a very small, small, small
- 2:25Speaker 2: percentage of guys that play hockey International Hockey League that
- 2:28Speaker 2: reach that level. So it's a tremendous honor for us
- 2:32Speaker 2: to be able to see it happen, for me to
- 2:35Speaker 2: coach him, and for him to be able to do it.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Whether it comes down to being able to have a
- 2:40Speaker 1: coachable latitude or the physicality part of it, or even
- 2:43Speaker 1: just the brains part of it. What have you noticed
- 2:45Speaker 1: about players in being able to last as long as
- 2:48Speaker 1: far as what they have in common?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's it's a commitment. It's a commitment
- 2:55Speaker 2: to their craft, and it starts off the ice. It
- 2:58Speaker 2: starts with you know, working out training, it starts with
- 3:02Speaker 2: nutrition and you know Ebbs had that injury last having
- 3:07Speaker 2: the second best start to a season of his career
- 3:11Speaker 2: at this age after coming off with significant injury. It
- 3:14Speaker 2: just tells you everything you need to know about Jordan.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Early last couple of weeks, you've found some continuity here
- 3:19Speaker 1: in the lineup. Been part of this has been by
- 3:21Speaker 1: necessity where you find a guy like Kale Florie stepping
- 3:24Speaker 1: into Brandon montor out and for a guy who had
- 3:26Speaker 1: to wait to turn quite a bit, what have you
- 3:28Speaker 1: noticed about Kale Flory's game that has made so much
- 3:30Speaker 1: sense with him with Ryan Lyn Grin back on that pairing,
- 3:32Speaker 1: it just.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Keeps it simple. He's strong in battles, he understands the
- 3:37Speaker 2: defensive side of the game, and you know he's playing
- 3:41Speaker 2: against other team's top lines and he's doing a really
- 3:44Speaker 2: good job of it. But it's just simple, simple, smart
- 3:47Speaker 2: hockey for him.
- 3:48Speaker 1: You get one more crack at Calgary, a team that's
- 3:51Speaker 1: been very good at home ice and been quite a challenge.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But what do you see as far as the greatest
- 3:55Speaker 1: challenge for this evening.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Well, we've got to have a good start and you're
- 3:58Speaker 2: not wrong. They're eight and two in their last ten
- 4:00Speaker 2: at home, so you know they're feeling it here at
- 4:03Speaker 2: the saddle Dome. You know, we have to make sure
- 4:06Speaker 2: that we're ready to go right off the bat. We
- 4:09Speaker 2: talked a little bit about the last time we were
- 4:11Speaker 2: in here, some of the things that maybe we didn't like.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Make a couple of adjustments there, but at the end
- 4:17Speaker 2: of the day, we're gonna have to be ready and
- 4:19Speaker 2: we're gonna have to be ready to go to battle.
- 4:20Speaker 2: They're a big hockey team. They play quick and they
- 4:24Speaker 2: go to the nethard their deer very active, and you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: we're gonna have to be making sure that we understand
- 4:31Speaker 2: what we need to do in order to win the
- 4:33Speaker 2: hockey game.
