- 1:38from Hollywood. It's time now for Tony Dollair Up. Johnny who's that for
- 1:48grawl? As if I didn't know what's on your mind? Bird Dollamtion ever
- 1:52hear of her? Her uncle selve estimation m Mason's stealing iron. That's the
- 1:57man. Dall is his favorite niece. About six weeks ago she disappeared.
- 2:00So so yesterday a body washed up on Newport Beach, not too far from
- 2:05a parent's home, Darles, according to her father, And you hold a
- 2:08policy on her for twenty five thousand double indemnity out, So why don't you
- 2:14pay it off? We would have today except for one thing? What's that?
- 2:17Right after Mason identified the body, a man named Dixon showed up and
- 2:21swore it was the body of his daughter. Why Bob Bailey and the Exciting
- 2:34Adventures of a Man with the action packed Expense Account America's Fabulous Freelance Insurance Investigators,
- 2:40Truly Johnny Dollar, No Act one of yours, Truly Johnny Dollar.
- 3:06Expense account submitted by a special investigator, Johnny Dollar, to the Providential Assurance
- 3:10Company, three nine to three Dewey Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut. The following
- 3:15is an acount of expenses incurred during my investigation of the Mason Dixon mismatch matter
- 3:24expense account. I had a one a dollar and twenty cents taxi from my
- 3:27apartment of the Providential Building. The walls of Bert McGrath's office are covered with
- 3:31pictures of sporting events, and as I entered, Bert was preparing to hang
- 3:36another one. Oh, Johnny, will come in, come in? Yeah?
- 3:39You you ever see this? Who is it? Who? Why?
- 3:44It's me, that's who. Today I pitched for the Valdosta Lions, struck
- 3:47out ten of the cherry pointers that afternoon. Yes, sir, you win
- 3:53the game? Forum, I said, did you win the game for him?
- 3:59Oh? No, cheating umpire? Ah. Well, Johnny boy,
- 4:08are you ready to join our little team? I don't know. A body
- 4:11of a girl being found on a beach, Bason identifying it as his daughter,
- 4:15and then somebody else showing up, Henry Dixon and saying the same thing.
- 4:18Can't the authorities identify her? Haven't been able to yet? Neither one
- 4:23of those girls had their fingerprints on the record. Nope, Well what about
- 4:26tennilwork? Nothing to go on there either. It's not going to be an
- 4:30easy one, Johnny. How long had the body been in the ocean before
- 4:33it was washed up? Well? They figure about six weeks. You know
- 4:36what that means? Hello? Oh, yes, I see, uh huh.
- 4:47Well, if it isn't the Mason girl, he is, yes,
- 4:53so that's right. Thanks for calling Captain. That was Captain Miller of the
- 4:58Newport Police about who she is. No, so if it is the Mason
- 5:01girl, we're going to have to pay out fifty thousand on the double indemnity
- 5:04clause. You aren't surprised, are you. No. I didn't think she
- 5:09died from a natural cause, but I didn't think it'd be from a gunshot,
- 5:13would either? What kind of a gunshot would? At thirty eight right
- 5:15through here? How old did you say? The Mason girl was a big
- 5:20oh round twenty dition girl too. Both of them pretty full of life,
- 5:26at least they were. When did the Mason girl disappear? Oh about six
- 5:30weeks ago. And the Dixon girl she's been missing about three months. Well,
- 5:33one of them is still alive. I'll try to find her. Or
- 5:41gave me all the information he had on both the Mason and the Dixon families.
- 5:45I took a cab back to my apartment. That's expense account out of
- 5:47two adam three eighteen dollars and ten cents transportation Hartford the Newport, Rhode Island.
- 5:53After checking in at the Ogden Hotel, I called Darla Mason's father,
- 5:56rented a car and drove out to the Mason home on the beach. I
- 6:00was about to ring the bell on the front door. Open. Hi,
- 6:03Well, huh, you must be Johnny Dollar. That's right, Come on
- 6:06in. I'm John Mason, Darla's little sister. Huh, this way,
- 6:12mister Dollar. Mother's waiting for you in the den. Your mother. I
- 6:15thought my appointment was with you. My father's interisposed besides mother's the brains of
- 6:19this family. Of course, if you really want to know about Darla,
- 6:24you ask me. Maybe I will you better. Mister Dollar's here, mother,
- 6:30Thank you, my dear, Come in please, mister Dollar, see
- 6:32you later. Johnny dreadful mistake? My husband Maid's upset him, so I
- 6:39found it best to see you myself. Just what mistake are you referring to
- 6:44missus Mason? Well, we've released his statement the newspapers. I thought you
- 6:47would hear. No, Maam, I happens you've made a trip over here
- 6:50for nothing. Then, Yet you see my husband erd when you identified that
- 6:57body as being our daughters. It couldn't possibly a thing. Well, I
- 7:02know you're glad of that, missus Mason, But what made mister Mason change
- 7:08his mind? I haven't changed the dollar, Georgia. I thought you were
- 7:12going to stay in your room, never mind dollar. Any questions you want
- 7:15to ask, I'll try to answer you. I George Mason, drinking only
- 7:20enough to take the bad taste out of my mouth. And you know what
- 7:23put it there? Oh dog, lookstone mixed up, Jenny. I tried
- 7:27going along with you, but I got two week of stomach so here I
- 7:30am. I didn't know what you're talking about it, Oh listen, dollar.
- 7:33Soon as they found out that girl had been murdered, my wife here
- 7:36decided it couldn't have been dollars. Isn't dollar? And you know it.
- 7:41Only thing I know is that you got a set idea good proper people don't
- 7:44die nowhere else but in bed. Because this girl died like she did,
- 7:47because she was shot. You tried convincing me she ain't our daughter. Well,
- 7:50I won't hold still for that girl's dollar, no matter what that crazy
- 7:56what you say? You hear you hear me, Jenny? Oh gone,
- 8:03woman, I gets a mad at her. Oh yeah, you want a
- 8:09drink? Dollar? No? No, thanks a little early for me.
- 8:11I guess I've had enough too, oh dollar. No matter what way Yard
- 8:18girl died, she was a good girl. Never give me a bit of
- 8:22trouble, never lied, never ran around like summer age do. She was
- 8:28a real good girl. Mister Mason. The police haven't been able to make
- 8:31a positive identification. I know that. Well. Would you mind telling me
- 8:35why you are so certain that girl is your daughter? Oh? Of course
- 8:39not. First thing, Darla had no reason to go. She had everything
- 8:43I could give her, charge of council, over the place, everything money
- 8:48could buy, so she had no reason to leave her like she did.
- 8:52Where was she last seen? At the Newport Yacht Club. At the bar,
- 8:58younger daughter Jones saw Darla talking with a stranger. She walked out of
- 9:03the club. Was the last anybody ever? So often? Oh, mister
- 9:09Mason, do you have a picture of your daughter that I could borrow for
- 9:11a few days? Yeah? I might be able to find you one.
- 9:16What do you want with it? I'm going to try to find you.
- 9:18What dollar you'll find the Dixon girl? Oh? Oh yeah, I see
- 9:24what you mean. Well, you might locate Ruth Dixon somewhere. You know
- 9:28the Dix's, mister Mason. No, I've never heard of before this happened.
- 9:31What about Ruth Dixon? Could Darla have known her? Oh? Of
- 9:35course? Now are you sure? I mean, isn't it possible that in
- 9:39a small community like min No, it's not possible. Dollar, we're the
- 9:43Masons. Now. Maybe that don't mean much to you or to me,
- 9:48but it means an awful lot to my wife, And by the time poor
- 9:52Dola was born, my wife drilled it into work. Do you understand.
- 9:56No, I'm not sure that I do well. Never mixed with people she
- 10:01thought were beneath her anymore, my wife ever has I see? You don't
- 10:05believe it? You just ask around. I planned to mister Mason. Mason
- 10:16found a small snapshot of his daughter. I took him and drove back to
- 10:20town. Expense account at him four to ten cents. One phone called to
- 10:24Henry Dixon. Twenty minutes later, I walked through the knee high weeds that
- 10:28surrounded the Dixon home. Standing on the front porch waiting for me was a
- 10:31tall, thin man after Noon mister Dollar. Yes, that's right. Well,
- 10:37I'm glad to know you sit down. It's such a nice day.
- 10:39I thought we could talk out here on the fort fine with me, oh
- 10:45Dollar, Yeah, Look, this whole thing hasn't been easy on my wife.
- 10:50Now. I've spent all day convincing her that I was mistaken, that
- 10:54the girl found on the beach isn't our daughter. You really believe that,
- 11:00so does my wife, And for the first time in days, she's almost
- 11:03her old self again. Henry. Oh, on the porch, Lucial,
- 11:07mister Dollar's here. Oh my, it's a beautiful day. Listen, Lucille,
- 11:16this is mister Dollar. Oh please to meet you, sir. Thank
- 11:18you, missus Dixon. Well, sit down, mister Dollar. Just anywhere.
- 11:24Henry built these chairs himself. I wanted to put them in the house,
- 11:28but Ruth she just wouldn't have it. Yes, mister Dollar, I'm
- 11:35not at all sure why you want to see us. Ruth wasn't insured.
- 11:39We never could afford to take out a policy on her. Well, we
- 11:43did once for her college fund, you remember, Henry. Yes, but
- 11:46when I was forced to slow down, we had to cash it in all
- 11:50except about one thousand dollars. That is, back in Saint Louis. My
- 11:54husband was a school teacher, mister Dollar a fine one, but the doctors
- 11:58made him give it up because of his hard Oh. I see how long
- 12:05have you folks lived in Newport? Five years and four months, missus Dixon.
- 12:09I imagine you remember just about everything that happened the day Ruth disappeared,
- 12:15don't you. Oh my? Yes, Well, did your daughter seem to
- 12:18be upset or emotionally disturbed in any way? No more than usual. Well,
- 12:24Ruth was spoiled, mister Dalla, before Henry had to leave his job.
- 12:30We had the money to buy her nice things. Then when we didn't
- 12:35have it, Well, Ruth just never could get used to seeing her friends
- 12:39and they are pretty new dresses. That's one of the reasons we moved to
- 12:45Newport to get away from that crowd. Yes, we hoped he would find
- 12:48some friends on her own financial level, Yes, some friends like that,
- 12:58But she she wouldn't change. Did she know the Mason girl? I ever
- 13:03talk about her? No? I can't recall that she did. Now wait
- 13:09a minute, Henry, she did one? Oh? One? Was that?
- 13:11Oh about the middle of March they were having a dance where Ruth worked.
- 13:18When she got home that night, she told me the Mason girl had
- 13:20been there, and how nice her hair had looked. The Mason girl wasn't
- 13:26nearly as pretty. Oh no, have you ever seen a picture of Ruth,
- 13:30mister Dollar, Well, only the one of the newspapers. Oh that
- 13:33doesn't look a thing like Ruth. Excuse me, surely mister Dixon was Ruth
- 13:41happy with her job? Well, considering how little they pay girls for doing
- 13:46hostess work, she was now here. Here's a real nice picture of her,
- 13:52mister Dollar. You just look at Ruth. Isn't that Sunday? She
- 14:00sure? Missus Dixon? Where was this taken? Well? Where she worked
- 14:07at the Newport Yard Club. I borrowed the picture after promising to be careful
- 14:13with it. Then I went back to my hotel at the Best. I
- 14:18stopped for my key and messages and found one from Captain Miller, the Newport
- 14:20Police. He wanted to see me in this office as soon as possible.
- 14:24They took me about five minutes to get there. Yeah, that's right in
- 14:30there. I'm mel a homicide detail. I'm glad you mister what wonderful good
- 14:37news you can? He leave the man alone? Well, I didn't expect
- 14:41to find you people here, missus Mason. No, No, I'm sure
- 14:43you didn't. And mister Mason didn't expect to be here either. Oh,
- 14:48you just wouldn't hold the thought, would you, George, You just wouldn't
- 14:52have faith. Oh you had our girl deadn't buried in her grave? Disgusting?
- 15:05Thankful, missus Mason. You mean you found her? They haven't found
- 15:09her yet. Don't matter find proof that she's a lot? What kind of
- 15:13proof? Slip a little sick nifer? What did you find? I didn't
- 15:22find it, missus Mason. What is a bill from Kennedy's. That's a
- 15:28department store over in province? Why don't you shut up? One, captain?
- 15:33What's the bill got to do with Donad Mason being alive? Justice?
- 15:37All the Masons have a charge accounted Kennedy. So the day a bill came
- 15:41to the Mason house addressed to miss Darla Mason, here, missus Mason opened
- 15:48it. Yes, Darla charged a fur wrap in Kennedy's. Oh when just
- 15:56last week Act two of yours, truly Johnny Dollar in a moment. We
- 16:18often hear about people shooting the bull or throwing the bull. We often do
- 16:23it ourselves on occasion. But here's a story about a bull that threw the
- 16:27man instead of the other way around. When Air Force veterinarian Captain Tony Kamlocker
- 16:33was stationed in the Aesaurs, he was asked by a Portuguese veterinarian to diagnose
- 16:38the wound of a young and promising bull that had been gored by another bull.
- 16:42It came from a long line of famous Corrida bulls and was considered very
- 16:47valuable. But Captain Kamaloker's diagnosis was not favorable. An operation was needed and
- 16:53there were no facilities for such a thing, just the young captain's bag of
- 16:57surgical instruments, strong field hands to hold the animal down, and Missus Comilocker,
- 17:03who acted as nurse. The operating table was a rocky field under a
- 17:07penetrating drizzle of rain, but Captain Tony Kamilocker couldn't be stopped with mere inconveniences.
- 17:15After giving the ball a dose of tranquilizers and the shot of local anesthetic,
- 17:19he proceeded with surgery. Just as the operation was completed, the bull
- 17:23came to life with a mighty lurch. It leaped to its feet, throwing
- 17:29the field hands aside like sticks and four thanks immediately charged at the surgeon,
- 17:34but Comlocker escaped over a nearby stone wall. The bull recovered, and its
- 17:40grateful honor renamed it Comlocker for its debut in the ring, where Portuguese style,
- 17:45it is against the law to kill the bull. That's how a simple
- 17:49act of kindness brought about new understanding, a step on the road to freedom,
- 17:55the right of all men everywhere, no act too of yours, truly.
- 18:00Johnny Dollar and the Mason Dixon mismatch matter. After telling me that the
- 18:17Mason girl had used one of her charge accounts just five days before the body
- 18:21was discovered on the beach, Chaptain Miller produced the original sales slip. Written
- 18:26across the bottom of it was the name Darla Mason. I wish to have
- 18:30and I could be positive it's really her signature. Do you mean you think
- 18:33it's a forgery, Captain, I don't think anything yet, mister Dollar,
- 18:36you believe it's Dollar's signature, don't you. Well, I haven't anything to
- 18:40compare the signature with missus. Missus Mason, you happen to have any of
- 18:44your daughter's legal documents at home, her driver's license, or anything else that
- 18:48might containers signature. No, I'm afraid I do. You'ren order a copy
- 18:52from the Department of Motor Vehicles cup. Yeah, well, what do you
- 18:55want it for? Kevin? Well, it's just a matter of form,
- 18:57mister Mason. We have to be sure. Darla's mother and me we are
- 19:02sure, and we're the only ones that come. Oh that's not quite true,
- 19:04mister Mason. Have you forgotten about the Dixons? Oh? Oh,
- 19:10yeah, I guess I did for a minute. Well, you go ahead,
- 19:12missus. Mason and me will be at home. Yes, you'll let
- 19:17us know as soon as you can. Yes, ma'am, I will.
- 19:22Well dollar No, what how far is Providence? Captain? About forty miles?
- 19:26Why? Well, I don't know about that store over there, but
- 19:30where I came from. Before a person could charge on an expensive item like
- 19:33a fur wrap, you'd have to produce some identification unless, yeah, unless
- 19:38the salesperson recognized him or her. What do you think? Mm? It's
- 19:45three ten now, if we hurry, we might have time to do a
- 19:48little shopping. We made it in an hour and a half. The first
- 19:57sellon at Kennedy's is on the second floor, or back away from the escalator.
- 20:03I remember her quite well, mister doa, and you're sure it was
- 20:06Darla Mason? Oh? Yes, I know, because I was so surprised
- 20:08to see her. Oh how's that we read the papers? Mister Dolla?
- 20:14How do you she in a way? Had you ever waited honor before,
- 20:18Miss Tremble, No, I had not. Do you remember how she was
- 20:22dressed? Well, she had on a hat gray felt fitted real close to
- 20:27her head so you couldn't see any of her hair. And oh yes,
- 20:33navy blue dress, raw silk, I believe, and real the cooked hair?
- 20:37Well? No, co oh did you recognize it when she first walked
- 20:42in or not until she told you her name? Well? You men are
- 20:49so kiky. I don't remember everything. I'm sorry, I Tremble. I
- 20:55have two snapshots here in a moment. I want you to tell me which
- 20:59of these two girls else is Donald Mason. That won't be hard to do,
- 21:03But first, may I borrow a pair of scissors and a small piece
- 21:04of paper? Please? Here you are? Thanks? What the devil are
- 21:11you up to, Johnny? Cutting paper hats? What do you think?
- 21:14What? Come over here to the counters? Tremble? If you'll just wait
- 21:18there a second place? Is it better be good. I think it will
- 21:22be a watch all right, all I put the snapshots on the counter,
- 21:29on the head of each girl one of my little paper hats. Oh really,
- 21:33this is ridiculous. In look, well, I'll be When did you
- 21:40spot this at the Dixon house? Miss Trimble? Would you come over now?
- 21:44Please? All right, look at the snapshots and tell me which of
- 21:48these ladies bought that fur from you last week? You've covered up their hair.
- 21:52You said she wore a hat, didn't she? Yes? But which
- 21:56one of them was it? Miss Trimble? I'm not sure. They looked
- 22:02so much alike, but their hair covered like that and just chewed. The
- 22:08Mason girl had worn her hair short in the Italian style. Ruth Dixon,
- 22:14who didn't have the money to spend on beauty parlors, had let hers grow
- 22:17long and full. But both girls had similar features, and apparently I was
- 22:21the only one who had noticed this, or was I? Captain Miller and
- 22:25I went to the credit department, where we compared the signature on the sales
- 22:27slip with Darla Mason's original credit application. After that, while there was little
- 22:33doubt in our minds as to what had happened, it was almost seven,
- 22:37when I got back to my hotel, took a shower and stretched out to
- 22:40do a little thinking. Yeah, hello, Hi, Hi yourself? Who
- 22:47was it? Oh? Come on, Johnny, who are you expecting?
- 22:51Wow? Don't tell me you forgotten about our date? Oh no, no,
- 22:56no, where shall I meet you? Miss? I'll meet you be
- 23:00right up, Johnny boy, I wasn't quite dressed when she began piling on
- 23:07the door. I tucked my shirt in and opened the door. Hi joy,
- 23:14who else? Don't look so amazed and bite me in? Oh sorry,
- 23:18come in, that's more like it. You don't mind if I leave
- 23:23the door open? Do you worried, Johnny? Oh no, no,
- 23:27it's just that I like lots of air. You're cute, so are you
- 23:32for a seventeen year old? Eighteen? But I'm quite sure you are now,
- 23:37Johnny? Before we go out tonight, would you mind if I ask
- 23:40you a couple of questions? I thought you probably would. Oh well,
- 23:44I'm sure everyone in Newport knows about Darla charging that for a rap. I
- 23:48see, what do you want to ask me, Johnny? It's about the
- 23:52day Dona disappeared. Yes, well, you said she was in the bar
- 23:56with a stranger. Right, that's right. But you and I we both
- 24:00know that every stranger who enters the yacht club has to sign a guest book.
- 24:04Correct, Well, he's given a temporary count with the name of the
- 24:08member who invited him to the club also registered in the book. You're very
- 24:12clever, mister Dark Why did you lie to the police and your parents?
- 24:15Johnny? Darla was my sister. I thought maybe somedays she did the same
- 24:19for me. Will you tell me who the stranger was? Or shall I
- 24:22go over to the yacht club and start checking their guest book. I'll tell
- 24:26you, yeah, Would you mind closing that door? Tell me first,
- 24:34his name's Peter Henson? Or was he my mother can answer that? Or
- 24:37Michael? A tutor? My mother hired him for darl and me. Moved
- 24:42into our house about three months ago. Of course, he didn't stay long.
- 24:45Where was he from? I don't really know, but I know how
- 24:48you can find out. Yeah. Mother hires all her help from the Casteloni
- 24:52employment agency in Providence. If anyone has his home address, they will I
- 24:57started calling the Castelloni agency at eight thirty the next morning. Anson's last own
- 25:03address was in Providence, and half an hour later I was headed toward the
- 25:06highway. It wasn't until I reached the turnpike and I noticed I was being
- 25:10followed by a battered blue sinan ansid. It moved, but he left a
- 25:14forwarding address. In three hours and two addresses later, I turned down a
- 25:17lonely oyster shell road and stopped. I had a mean I can see a
- 25:21small beach cottage and still behind me a battered blue sinnad. You make it
- 25:29real easy for a man to follow you, mister Dollar. If I had
- 25:32known it was you, sir, I wouldn't have. I hope you don't
- 25:33mind my tagging along like the mister Dixon. No wait, I know what
- 25:38you're going to say, but let me say this first, mister Dollar.
- 25:44I've waited around wondering if it was our girl you would find or the other
- 25:48one for so long. Well, I just couldn't anymore. I had to
- 25:52do something. You understand that, don't you, Yes, sir, I
- 25:56think i'd do it good. Well, then you'll go on about you business
- 26:00and I won't bother you. You going up to that house and I'll wait
- 26:03right here. Go on now, Yes, sir, I wasn't sure who
- 26:08or what I would find in the beach house. I was sure no amount
- 26:11of talk could persuade mister Dixon to leave until I didn't. I knocked on
- 26:17the door for a good minute before it finally opened. Yeah, mister Hanson,
- 26:26Yeah, what is my name is Dollar? I'm an insurance insurance man.
- 26:30Oh I thought you, honey, it's just an insurance salesman, the
- 26:37Dollar. Even if I had the money, I wouldn't buy an insurance from
- 26:41you. You come around too early. I didn't let me finish. I'm
- 26:44not a salesman. I'm an investigator. Oh give it up, handswer No,
- 26:51honey, honey, honey, And you can't stop me handsome you want
- 26:56to be He'll be all right. Why did you have to find this?
- 27:11Why why did you disappear? In how much trouble you've caused? I can
- 27:15read. I know it didn't bother you. Your family not knowing whether you
- 27:18were dead or alive, not a bit. I'd be happier if they thought
- 27:23I was Damn, Oh god, you don't mean that. I proved it
- 27:26did not. I'm not sure why did you disappear? Because I was bored,
- 27:32tired and sick of living like my family makes me live and how's that
- 27:36come out here? You see those birds? Yeah? Beautiful, aren't they?
- 27:45You know? Why? All right? Why because they're free, because
- 27:48they can live anyway they want, with no responsibilities, no reputation to worry
- 27:52about. Oh boy, how I ended. We're around back, sir?
- 27:57All right? Now? You tell me something. Sure? How do you
- 28:00know that wasn't me they found on the beach because of that fur wrap you
- 28:04charged to Kennedy's. I told him to send the bill here. They didn't.
- 28:10They went to your house. Oh no, I'm pretty sure. Goof
- 28:14yeah, Donna, you sure did, mister Dollar. Are you all right?
- 28:18I thought? Oh, mister Dixon, I Dixon, yes, Darna.
- 28:25He followed me here, hoping I'd lead him to his daughter. Oh
- 28:30geene, mister Dixon. I I'm sorry, if there's anything I can do.
- 28:33My daughter was fine, decent. But you, mister Dixon, to
- 28:40what you did to your parents and to us, making us wonder for so
- 28:45long, not knowing whether it was you or our daughter who was dead.
- 28:49Believe me, I wish it for you, like Bert McGrath told me long
- 29:00time ago, somebody has to handle the rough ones for me. This was
- 29:03it. Henry Dixon was in no condition to drive his car, so we
- 29:07rode back with us and on the way. Well, Darla Mason will never
- 29:11forget the things he said to her. Neither will I ask for Ruth Dixon
- 29:15who murdered her? And why, Well, that's up to the Newport Police.
- 29:21Expensive con total including hotel, Bill Carr, REDTL and transportation back to
- 29:23Hartford three hundred and nineteen dollars exactly yours, Trulle Shohnny Dollar. Now here's
- 29:41our star to tell you about next week story. Next week, Well,
- 29:45I suddenly found out there was more to this case. I just finished more
- 29:51the really tough part. Join us, won't you? Yours True, Shohnny
- 29:56Dollar. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar, starring Bob Dailey, originates in Hollywood,
- 30:10written by Charles B. Smith, and is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone.
- 30:14Heard in our cast were Virginia greg Mary, Jane Crock, Jeanette Nolan,
- 30:18Gene Tatum, Frank Nelson, Will Wright, Austin Green, and Marvin
- 30:22Miller. Musical supervision is by Amrigo Marino. Be sure to join us next
- 30:26week, same time and station for another exciting story of Yours Truly, Johnny
- 30:32Dollar. This is the United States Armed Horses Radio and Television Service welcome back.
- 31:00With the end of the serial format, it would be wrong to say
- 31:04that Johnny Dollar never did stories that were continued or connected in some way,
- 31:11and this is definitely the case as we're listening to the Mason Dixon mismatch matter.
- 31:18I don't believe any of the twenty six episodes that are missing are connected
- 31:22in this way, but in a way, it wouldn't matter a whole lot
- 31:29if it was like this week's because this week's show is enjoyable in its own
- 31:33right, and we left the episode with a solution to the case, which
- 31:37was somewhat original for Johnny Dollar, though probably not original for Johnny Dollar or
- 31:42for the era. With the contrast the two families of a lot of wealth
- 31:48and a poorer standard of living, I mean that Dixon family thought they were
- 31:55able to afford a lot on a school teacher's salary. Well, it's even
- 31:59in nineteen fifty seven. Was just yeah, coming down from there is not
- 32:02a good place to be. So we will see how this case. We'll
- 32:09continue on next week. And now we turn to listener comments and feedback and
- 32:15Bobby Lee comments regarding the Wayward Truck matter. Just listen to this episode.
- 32:21I like how they put in a plog for truck drivers. Well, that
- 32:24was a nice feature of the episode. This is definitely a much less cynical
- 32:30time. The number of people or groups you can praise by occupation has shrunk
- 32:37considerably since this time. We're so cynical about everything. We honor our people
- 32:43a whole lot last, and we do honor some good people when we do,
- 32:46such as the military, first responders occasionally even police officers. So that's
- 32:52certainly been changing. But I think this era, particularly after the war,
- 32:59it left people with an awareness of how important so many people were to the
- 33:04maintenance of their way of life. During World War Two, you saw how
- 33:08big and how important so many roles were to properly functioning society. Truckers of
- 33:15course very important, railroad's very important. Now our entertainment is more likely to
- 33:22be cynical amounts of it. If you have a good guy that happens to
- 33:24be a trucker, it's more coincidental. So the lack of cynicism is something
- 33:29I definitely appreciate about this era of radio. Well that's all for today.
- 33:34We'll be back tomorrow with the drag Net. Next Friday, it'll be another
- 33:37episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. And on Tuesday, be sure and listen.
