Transcript
- 0:02Adam: Hello everyone.
- 0:02Adam: This is the Adam and Deidre Show.
- 0:05Adam: And uh welcome, by the way.
- 0:07Adam: We got another great one, as we always do, but we're gonna start it off with some very jaligrino from Treehouse Brewing.
- 0:15Adam: It's a double IPA brewed with peppers at 8.6%.
- 0:20Adam: And I we've had this before in a can, I think, once.
- 0:24Adam: So I'm excited to try it again.
- 0:25Adam: It's been a little bit.
- 0:27Dedra: I'm excited too.
- 0:28Dedra: Cheers.
- 0:28Dedra: Cheers everybody to another great show.
- 0:30Dedra: I'm actually a little nervous trying to drink this because I feel like it might be a little spicy.
- 0:36Adam: I'm not getting the spice in there.
- 0:38Adam: So I'll let you I'll let you get your uh I'll give you guys my opinion.
- 0:41Adam: We also went to Kitsney Brewing and had food at Lovecraft.
- 0:46Adam: So we got a lot of good stuff to talk about here.
- 0:49Dedra: But first it is it's really good.
- 0:52Dedra: It's not dusty.
- 0:54Dedra: It doesn't have that dusty flavor like some beers that are spicy do.
- 0:59Dedra: And it's not spicy at all.
- 1:01Dedra: It's actually really good.
- 1:02Adam: Yeah, I'm not getting any of the spice either.
- 1:04Dedra: It's got a really good flavor to it.
- 1:05Dedra: I like it.
- 1:05Dedra: Well, maybe as as the show goes on, it'll change and maybe some will come out.
- 1:11Adam: You never know.
- 1:12Dedra: Maybe it's on the second round when it's coming out.
- 1:17Adam: Oh not good.
- 1:21Dedra: I don't know.
- 1:21Dedra: It's gotta be somewhere.
- 1:24Adam: So I know what you mean about that dusty flavor, because that happens a lot in beers that they put like green chili or jalapenos and stuff like that inside of there.
- 1:32Adam: You get that earthiness from from the chili peppers, like just like that coating.
- 1:37Adam: For some reason, it just that's what you're tasting when you have that inside of beer sometimes.
- 1:41Adam: And no, this is good.
- 1:42Adam: I mean, you get the pepper flavor a little bit, but that tree house, just their IPAs are just they're just out of this world.
- 1:50Dedra: We shouldn't get two.
- 1:52Dedra: We should just start having two beers on our show.
- 1:54Adam: Oh my god.
- 1:55Adam: We're I think we're almost out of these tree house, which we have to drink them.
- 1:59Adam: You want to drink them fresh.
- 2:01Adam: It's not as fresh as I'd like it anymore, but hey.
- 2:05Dedra: Well, that was like what back in May?
- 2:07Adam: J yeah, May, June when we got it.
- 2:09Adam: Yeah.
- 2:10Adam: So yeah, it's it's getting a little bit there.
- 2:12Dedra: There we are at the end of at the end of October.
- 2:15Adam: We've been savoring them.
- 2:17Adam: I'm just gonna go with that.
- 2:20Adam: And still, it hasn't lost its flavor.
- 2:22Adam: So I think this is actually still really good.
- 2:25Dedra: I agree.
- 2:26Dedra: It is very good.
- 2:27Dedra: Um, so again, just that's just this past weekend, we went out to a couple places.
- 2:33Dedra: Um, we actually finally made it out to wait, have we ever been out to Kipsune?
- 2:38Dedra: No.
- 2:39Dedra: No, we were having issues with that.
- 2:41Dedra: Um, issues being we show up and they're not open.
- 2:45Adam: Yeah, and why wouldn't they be open on New Year's Day, right?
- 2:48Adam: We had a mission though.
- 2:51Adam: There was actually a really good point to us driving out there the first time.
- 2:55Adam: Um, we got word that there were Sam Adams Utopias at a fries that was not too far away from there.
- 3:02Adam: So we drove on New Year's Day all the way to the east side just to check that fries out, just to see if they had it.
- 3:09Adam: And sure enough, they had it, and we ended up being able to get a bottle.
- 3:13Adam: And I think this was the 2023 release.
- 3:15Adam: So it was January 1st, 2024.
- 3:17Adam: We went and got that bottle.
- 3:19Adam: We drove and tried to hit two breweries on the way up, and both of them were closed.
- 3:25Dedra: Well, it was already kind of like towards the evening, anyways, because I remember driving by and it was dark outside, so we drove by and we're like, oh well, let's try the next spot.
- 3:36Dedra: Yeah.
- 3:36Dedra: Same thing, skunked out, it happens.
- 3:40Adam: And for some reason, you know, we ended up on with a late start on New Year's Day for some reason.
- 3:44Adam: We must have been doing something the night before.
- 3:47Dedra: Hmm.
- 3:47Dedra: Can't think of anything.
- 3:49Adam: What could it be?
- 3:50Adam: But we did.
- 3:52Adam: We checked out Kitsune, and very neat place.
- 3:56Adam: I was actually very happy with it.
- 3:57Adam: We've had a lot of people tell us how good it is, and it didn't disappoint.
- 4:02Adam: I really enjoyed the place.
- 4:04Adam: And um they had it was like a small bar.
- 4:08Adam: So you walk in, it's part of a um commercial, what do you call it?
- 4:12Adam: Strip mall.
- 4:13Adam: And you go in, it has the bar that's lined up on the one side.
- 4:16Adam: They have like games and possibly where they can do music.
- 4:20Adam: And you go around the corner, they got tables lined up on the one side, a small little ponywall, and right behind that is all their brewing equipment.
- 4:28Dedra: So what was really cool that I wanted to actually try out was the games that they did have.
- 4:34Dedra: I think it was all Nintendo's that they had plugged in on the walls.
- 4:37Dedra: Oh, that's right.
- 4:37Dedra: Which reminded me a lot of 8 bit, which was, you know, it's a great concept.
- 4:41Dedra: And I was ready to sit there and have a couple rounds with you playing, playing.
- 4:48Dedra: Beer too, but playing.
- 4:50Dedra: Um, but they weren't on, and we were with a group of friends too, so I'm sure we could have asked.
- 4:57Dedra: Well, yeah, I'm sure, but we were there with friends.
- 5:00Adam: But they had board games too, and that's what I remember seeing against that that left wall, like kind of like uh the same wall the entrance was in.
- 5:06Adam: Yeah.
- 5:07Adam: But yeah, I totally forgot about those video games.
- 5:09Adam: That would have been a lot of fun.
- 5:10Adam: TVs at each one of those tables.
- 5:12Adam: Yes.
- 5:13Adam: Oh, that would have been fun.
- 5:14Adam: Was it all Nintendo or was it other video game systems also?
- 5:18Dedra: I feel like it was all Super Nintendo, and I love me some Super Nintendo.
- 5:21Dedra: Not just Super Nintendo, but also regular.
- 5:24Adam: Oh yeah.
- 5:24Adam: Super Mario Bros.
- 5:25Adam: one of the greatest games of all time, I think.
- 5:28Adam: I love it.
- 5:29Adam: Super Bomberman is always a good fun, nice fun one.
- 5:32Adam: Street Fighter.
- 5:33Adam: Oh, yeah, we can just go on and on.
- 5:39Dedra: I don't remember playing that game on Super Nintendo.
- 5:42Adam: I'm pretty sure that was cards.
- 5:44Dedra: I know.
- 5:44Dedra: That's what I was gonna say.
- 5:46Dedra: Give me a deck of cards.
- 5:48Dedra: Let's do some slapjack.
- 5:49Dedra: I'll slap the slap the hell out of some jack.
- 5:54Adam: Jack, sorry.
- 5:55Dedra: My apologies.
- 5:56Dedra: I won't, I won't assault you physically.
- 5:59Adam: Oh man.
- 6:00Dedra: Verbally, no, that's another.
- 6:01Dedra: I was kidding.
- 6:02Dedra: Yeah.
- 6:03Adam: Well, I started out with one because they just had their anniversary party, and I was it their fifth?
- 6:08Adam: I can't remember.
- 6:10Dedra: Good question.
- 6:10Dedra: I'm not sure.
- 6:11Dedra: I was just more focused on getting there while it was actually open and getting in the doors.
- 6:17Dedra: Yeah.
- 6:17Adam: Well, they just I think they just had something either the weekend before or even the day before.
- 6:21Adam: I can't remember.
- 6:22Adam: So one of the beers I had was actually a fest beer, uh Marzan, and it was called Fox Toberfest, and their my mascot, whatever, is a fox, and I think it has something to do with like Japanese anime something, but it's like a fox with seven tails, and that's what kitsune is.
- 6:42Adam: And they're at least their motto or what they based their brewery off of.
- 6:46Adam: And I think that's a pretty neat concept, especially because all their beer taps were like little tails.
- 6:51Adam: Yeah.
- 6:51Adam: Did you notice that?
- 6:52Dedra: Yeah, that was really neat.
- 6:53Dedra: I did.
- 6:54Dedra: That was actually like really, really clever.
- 6:56Adam: Yeah.
- 6:56Adam: But this Oktoberfest beer was great.
- 6:59Adam: And I've been drinking quite a few of them this year.
- 7:03Dedra: I guess, since our what is it, our Germany trip.
- 7:06Adam: Yeah, but uh every single one that I've been getting lately, I've really enjoyed it.
- 7:12Dedra: Ah, and the buns are changing.
- 7:14Adam: Yes, well, they're not changing, they're just enjoying the variety.
- 7:18Adam: So the Oktoberfest was really solid.
- 7:23Adam: I enjoyed the hell out of it.
- 7:24Adam: That was a really good beer.
- 7:25Adam: Nice clean flavor, had a nice uh rich maltiness to it at the same time.
- 7:30Adam: And you know, so it's on the lighter side, so it was actually good because uh we had a lot that day.
- 7:37Dedra: We did.
- 7:38Dedra: Uh what is it, liquid volume and physical, like food.
- 7:43Dedra: What would you call that?
- 7:44Adam: Just gluttony.
- 7:47Dedra: Being American.
- 7:48Dedra: Yes.
- 7:52Adam: That was a great place though.
- 7:54Dedra: To be American.
- 7:55Dedra: Yeah.
- 7:56Dedra: And here we are, sitting drinking beer, talking about the beer we drank and all the food we ate.
- 8:04Adam: Don't be judgy.
- 8:06Dedra: I'm not.
- 8:07Dedra: I just find it.
- 8:09Adam: You just had a realization, like an aha moment.
- 8:14Dedra: That's personal problems.
- 8:17Dedra: Yep.
- 8:18Adam: But we're talking to people that all like to do the same thing, so it's all good.
- 8:22Dedra: Like I said, to be American.
- 8:24Dedra: Yes.
- 8:24Dedra: So I ended up getting uh an IPA called the Dangster Boogie, and it was uh just under six or just under seven percent.
- 8:32Dedra: It was six point eight percent.
- 8:33Dedra: And that was actually pretty good.
- 8:34Dedra: That was it was a sipper for me.
- 8:36Dedra: Um, it wasn't anything that I was, you know, it was still pretty early in the day, so I wanted to, there was a lot of variety that they had there that I really wanted to get to.
- 8:44Dedra: So I kind of took my time and we're with friends, so we took a lot of time talking.
- 8:48Dedra: I enjoyed it.
- 8:49Dedra: Um, and actually I didn't start off with a hazy.
- 8:52Dedra: I jumped right into the IPA, so maybe my buns are changing too.
- 8:59Adam: You just wanted something clean.
- 9:01Dedra: Yeah, actually.
- 9:02Dedra: And that was clean.
- 9:03Dedra: That was exactly what I was looking for.
- 9:05Dedra: That was very easy, a really good sipper.
- 9:08Adam: Yeah, and we we were with uh four other friends at that place.
- 9:12Adam: We sat at the bar, but we kind of like took it over too.
- 9:15Adam: So a couple a couple of you were sitting at the bar, a couple of us were standing, and we kind of were like run a big circle right in front of the bar.
- 9:22Dedra: Right at the entrance.
- 9:23Dedra: Yeah, we made a lot of places.
- 9:25Dedra: Yeah, not on the side, like towards the back where the bathrooms are and stuff where it's all like no, right at the entrance.
- 9:32Dedra: I'm not busy, but I mean, whatever.
- 9:35Dedra: Um, but that was a lot like where the tanks were.
- 9:38Dedra: That was really cool because that really did provide a lot for a really good photo opportunity.
- 9:43Dedra: Yeah, which we did.
- 9:44Dedra: We took advantage of.
- 9:45Adam: Of course.
- 9:46Adam: And I bought this hat there, Kitsune.
- 9:48Dedra: Oh, I hated merchandise.
- 9:49Dedra: My bought mine there too.
- 9:50Dedra: Just kidding, it's stoned.
- 9:52Adam: I'm like, what are you talking about?
- 9:53Adam: I'm like, I thought we only bought one.
- 9:55Dedra: Jokes on you.
- 9:57Adam: But had to get it because, you know, we were there and I'm like, this is our first time here, had a great experience.
- 10:02Adam: Gotta get it.
- 10:02Adam: So I'm gonna talk about our next beer because they kind of go hand in hand.
- 10:06Adam: Yes.
- 10:07Dedra: So one of them, which was a really sorry, Daniel.
- 10:10Dedra: It's good.
- 10:10Dedra: It's a really great concept, what they did.
- 10:13Adam: Well, that's their flagship.
- 10:16Dedra: So I wanted a hazy.
- 10:17Dedra: So I ended up getting my hazy and I got the forager.
- 10:20Dedra: That one I really enjoyed.
- 10:22Dedra: That was a 7.2%.
- 10:24Dedra: And after just having something nice and clean like the IPA, and then going to the hazy, that was really good.
- 10:30Dedra: That was a really good finisher for me.
- 10:32Adam: Yeah.
- 10:32Adam: So because it was their anniversary, they also had one called Foraged, which was a double dry hopped or double hazy IPA.
- 10:42Adam: And I thought that was a good uh play.
- 10:44Adam: I mean, you had the the Forager and the Foraged.
- 10:47Adam: And I really liked that beer.
- 10:50Adam: I I I mean, I was drinking that and I'm like, uh, I had um a couple hazies already that day, and I had that one.
- 10:57Adam: I'm like, oh, this is just clean.
- 10:59Adam: I am I drank that whole thing so fast.
- 11:03Dedra: I could see that.
- 11:04Dedra: I I I think I went at one point to try to take a sip.
- 11:09Adam: Yeah.
- 11:10Adam: And it was gone.
- 11:11Dedra: Yeah.
- 11:12Dedra: I was like, here you go.
- 11:14Dedra: You can share some of mine.
- 11:16Adam: Do you want to smell my glass?
- 11:17Adam: Smell my breath.
- 11:19Dedra: Oh, so double dry hopped and hazy.
- 11:27Adam: It's I could tell it's been foraged.
- 11:29Adam: But that was a good beer.
- 11:33Adam: I I really liked it.
- 11:34Adam: And I'm sorry.
- 11:35Adam: Do you know what?
- 11:35Adam: We're just gonna have to go back.
- 11:36Adam: That's our answer to everything, isn't it?
- 11:39Dedra: Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:40Dedra: And then we're gonna go back on the side and play those games too.
- 11:42Adam: Yep.
- 11:42Adam: It's on.
- 11:44Adam: It's on like Donkey Kong.
- 11:46Adam: Wonder if they had Donkey Kong there.
- 11:47Adam: I like playing that on Super Nintendo also.
- 11:49Dedra: Hey, we can bring some of our own games too.
- 11:51Adam: Oh, that'd be cool.
- 11:52Adam: They're like, oh, sorry, we're closed.
- 11:53Adam: Too bad.
- 11:54Adam: We brought our own.
- 11:59Dedra: We'd end up being recruited to clean the all the tabletops.
- 12:04Adam: It'd be worth it.
- 12:05Dedra: We stayed there too long.
- 12:06Adam: Are they gonna serve us more beer?
- 12:08Adam: Or if they stop that, then we'll leave.
- 12:10Adam: Unless we bring our own about it.
- 12:12Dedra: Don't tell them.
- 12:13Dedra: We'll end up having to clean the bathroom.
- 12:16Adam: Yeah, it's all can I take four to go and you bring them to the table and go to the bathroom real fast?
- 12:23Dedra: I'm kidding.
- 12:24Adam: Yeah, we won't do that.
- 12:25Adam: Man, so that was uh really good stop.
- 12:30Adam: I'm glad we went there.
- 12:31Adam: I mean, that was that was really neat.
- 12:34Dedra: To finally be able to go in there, yes, it was a great experience.
- 12:38Dedra: I would definitely go back there again.
- 12:40Adam: And they do a yearly beer festival there too, and invite probably it's a small one, and I I appreciate that.
- 12:45Adam: We haven't able to been able to make it out, but I think the last time we were we weren't even there.
- 12:50Adam: It was like we wanted to go, but we couldn't.
- 12:52Adam: And I think we got into town and it was over, and we ended up at some other brewery, and a lot of the people from there made it over to the brewery that we stopped at.
- 13:03Dedra: Right.
- 13:03Dedra: I was thinking with the brewery.
- 13:05Dedra: The one that we that they the after party place?
- 13:08Dedra: Are you talking about that?
- 13:09Adam: It was like no front porch is where we were at.
- 13:12Adam: And even the people there that were pouring, I think front porch was at that uh beer festival.
- 13:17Adam: Yeah.
- 13:17Adam: And the owners and the and the guys pouring actually came back to the brewery before they went home.
- 13:22Adam: Like, man, we missed it.
- 13:25Dedra: That's right.
- 13:25Adam: Yeah, it would have been a really cool one to go to.
- 13:27Adam: Yeah.
- 13:27Adam: Another thing that they're doing, which they haven't started yet, but I did hear it actually on um another podcast.
- 13:33Adam: I think our friend Greg, uh, he was interviewing the owner.
- 13:38Adam: Cole brew?
- 13:38Adam: Cole Brew Greg, yep.
- 13:40Adam: He was uh, I think interviewing him, and they were tell he was saying that he was gonna be like getting a restaurant like right next door.
- 13:48Adam: And that was one of his goals because he loves like ramen.
- 13:51Adam: And I feel like ramen would really go with the theme at that brewery since it's very Japanese anime, that that sort of stuff.
- 13:59Adam: Even in the bathroom, they had like pictures of like Japanese art and stuff, and it's all like toys and anime stuff, and it but it was it was pretty neat.
- 14:06Adam: I mean, they went all out with that theme.
- 14:08Adam: I appreciate it.
- 14:09Dedra: I agree, I agree with you.
- 14:11Adam: But uh, we went to, I mean, we had more places to stop at, and one of them was amazing, and I am definitely going back to it.
- 14:19Adam: We are going definitely going back to it, and we're bringing people.
- 14:22Dedra: Yeah, more people.
- 14:24Adam: Yes, it was called Lovecraft, and it's New Mexican quilt cuisine, which sits a little bit close to my heart there.
- 14:31Adam: My family's from New Mexico, and you know, it truly runs through my my blood, so they use a lot of it, and I appreciated that.
- 14:38Dedra: And growing up on the reservation, we went to Gallup quite often.
- 14:43Dedra: So that's my tie to New Mexico.
- 14:45Dedra: I like it.
- 14:46Dedra: I mean, gallop's nothing to uh brag about.
- 14:52Adam: It's New Mexico, but it's all Resland, so it's like almost the same as Arizona.
- 14:57Dedra: But still, nobody's like, ooh.
- 15:00Adam: Yeah, ooh, gallop.
- 15:01Dedra: Going to Gallup on vacation?
- 15:03Dedra: No, no.
- 15:04Adam: What's there?
- 15:04Adam: Ooh, a trading post in a laundry mat.
- 15:07Adam: These are like, oh man, you gotta hit them on the highway.
- 15:12Adam: What was it?
- 15:13Adam: The I-40.
- 15:14Adam: Gotta go.
- 15:15Dedra: Well, no, they have um what is that, Blake's burger out there?
- 15:19Adam: Oh, yes.
- 15:20Adam: We did eat that burger.
- 15:21Adam: Yeah, that was good too.
- 15:22Dedra: But speaking of burgers, so maybe there is something to brag about.
- 15:27Adam: That was a good burger.
- 15:28Adam: But did it compare to the burger that we got over there?
- 15:31Dedra: Oh, mm-mm.
- 15:32Dedra: Lovecraft.
- 15:33Dedra: Oh my god.
- 15:35Adam: Yes, it was a green chili smash burger with all the toppings.
- 15:39Adam: I hate when you get a smash burger, they don't put lettuce, tomato, all that, all the good toppings on there because they're like, oh, it's supposed to just have cheese and onion.
- 15:47Adam: No, I like everything.
- 15:48Adam: Me too.
- 15:49Adam: I don't I feel like a burger is not a burger unless it has those vegetables on there.
- 15:53Adam: And it came with caramelized onions, but I got raw onion too.
- 15:57Dedra: Yeah, I'm not a fan of caramelized onions on my burger.
- 16:00Dedra: Like it just gives it a different flavor.
- 16:01Dedra: I like the crunch and the raw flavor of just a fresh onion on your burger.
- 16:06Adam: I like both.
- 16:08Dedra: Uh no, I can't do it.
- 16:09Dedra: I don't know why.
- 16:09Dedra: I'm just not big on the caramelized onions.
- 16:13Adam: Yeah.
- 16:13Adam: But the thing about this burger is it said on the menu that it is messy.
- 16:19Adam: So just expect to use a crap load of napkins.
- 16:23Adam: We shared, of course.
- 16:24Dedra: Gosh, okay.
- 16:25Dedra: So this was poor planning on my behalf.
- 16:28Dedra: So of course I I have to wear, I go out and I wear a Dixon, and it's not just any Dixon, it's it's a white one.
- 16:36Dedra: It's my it's my Pablo Escobar Dixon.
- 16:39Dedra: And I'm like, great.
- 16:41Dedra: The first stop is a is a place that's gonna have a burger that gives you a warning that it's going to get messy.
- 16:48Dedra: It's like awesome.
- 16:50Dedra: And I'm like, well, glad I wore an undershirt because I think this sucker's gonna have to come off.
- 16:55Adam: Oh my gosh.
- 16:56Dedra: So not only was that burger amazing, but what also added to that amazingness is the fried egg that we added on top of it.
- 17:04Dedra: So I and just did the whole elbows out and the guy fiery hunch.
- 17:12Dedra: It was but it was a success because I didn't get anything on my shirt or my undershirt, my pants.
- 17:20Dedra: I mean, it was one of those situations where once you're done, there's no amount of paper towels or napkins in the world.
- 17:26Dedra: You just gotta go to the bathroom and wash up to your elbows.
- 17:29Adam: And that was or shower.
- 17:31Dedra: And that was well, you know, they don't have showers at Lovecraft.
- 17:34Dedra: Or at least not in our bathroom.
- 17:36Dedra: That's the one I went into.
- 17:38Dedra: Um, but it was just, it was truly one of those situations where you just gotta go to go to the bathroom and wash from the elbows down.
- 17:45Adam: Yes, it had this like queso fundido sauce on there also with the green chili, had bacon, egg.
- 17:51Adam: I mean, I cut this thing in half and I took my first bite, and it's I could barely pick it up off the plate.
- 17:56Adam: It was so messy and good.
- 18:00Dedra: Yes.
- 18:01Adam: And it was just like I I picked it up and I'm like, I can't sit this back down.
- 18:05Adam: If I set this back down, it's done, it's gonna just explode on me.
- 18:08Adam: So I just sat there and I did the same thing as you.
- 18:11Adam: I really would have gotten it all over myself had I set it down because then I would have been moving my hands around or whatever it may be.
- 18:18Adam: But I just like hunched over my plate also and just, oh my god, I just went through that whole burger and it left like a puddle of that like cheese sauce on there.
- 18:29Adam: And I'm not a big cheese person either.
- 18:31Adam: Yeah, but it was left on the plate, and I was taking the french fries and dipping it inside there also and using that as like the dip.
- 18:40Dedra: It was it was amazing.
- 18:41Dedra: So that's we're definitely that that whole experience there warrants going back for sure, for sure.
- 18:49Dedra: Because their menu, they have like their regular like weekday menu, and then they also have a separate weekend menu where they do fried chicken.
- 18:57Dedra: Um our appetizer, and then our our friends, they got a separate appetizer, which was the quesadilla with.
- 19:06Adam: Oh, they smoked their own meats there.
- 19:08Adam: So this was like a smoked prime rib that they sliced, and prime rib needs to be rare or thereabouts.
- 19:16Adam: And you know, when if you cook it in the quesadilla, you could actually make it really tough if it's overcooked.
- 19:21Adam: And no, they they actually did it really good.
- 19:23Adam: Plus, they give you that ajou that you just dipping that in.
- 19:28Adam: And there might have been green chili inside of there also, not in the ju in the in the quesadilla, also.
- 19:34Dedra: Oh, I'm sure there had to have been.
- 19:35Dedra: Um, I ended up getting actually the chips and guacamole, and then it came with two different things of salsa, which I was curious because they came in two small bottles.
- 19:46Dedra: And if that wasn't our first stop of the day, and I carried a purse, that was going in my purse.
- 19:52Adam: They did, they had like a red and a green, right?
- 19:54Adam: Well, I think the green was a mild and the red was spicy, or maybe vice versa.
- 19:58Adam: I think the green was a spicy one actually.
- 20:01Dedra: I I liked them both, but I think it was I think you're right.
- 20:04Dedra: I think it was the green one that was a little bit spicier, and I really liked that one.
- 20:07Dedra: Yeah.
- 20:08Dedra: And I was ready, and I had leggings on with little side like thigh pockets.
- 20:11Dedra: I was ready to commit and put one like in my side pocket.
- 20:14Dedra: But then I'd have like this bulge on the side of my pant leg, and it's like, ma'am, are you stealing the salsa?
- 20:21Adam: Plus it's getting hot all day from walking around.
- 20:25Dedra: And it's like mashed against my thigh.
- 20:28Dedra: So that doesn't help.
- 20:29Dedra: It's just gonna make it that much sweatier and water.
- 20:32Dedra: So needless to say, I didn't steal that one, but you know, maybe when we go back the next time, I'll maybe I'll bring a maybe I will bring a purse specifically for that salsa.
- 20:44Adam: Or we can just ask them and buy it.
- 20:46Adam: I'm sure they'll be okay with that.
- 20:47Dedra: Oh hey, I was going somewhere with it.
- 20:50Dedra: I was like, maybe I'll bring a purse and inside of it, I'll bring some ice packs.
- 20:55Dedra: All right.
- 20:56Dedra: Uh see?
- 20:57Dedra: We just bring an ice chest with us.
- 21:00Dedra: And buy beer or two at the same time.
- 21:02Dedra: Although they so actually a little bit of misleading information is it did say that they had a like they had beers to go, refrigerators with beers to go.
- 21:14Dedra: When we had asked them about that, they were like, Oh yeah, not anymore.
- 21:18Dedra: So we're like, okay, well, there goes our little bubble right there.
- 21:24Adam: Yeah, I think on the the sign it was all Lovecraft, wine, craft beer, and bottle shop.
- 21:30Adam: So yeah, we totally thought yeah, we totally thought it was gonna be to go.
- 21:34Adam: And we we didn't even catch that going in.
- 21:36Adam: We cut, we like went in, we're like just intrigued with the place.
- 21:39Adam: And when we were leaving, we're like, it says bottle shops.
- 21:42Adam: We ran back in.
- 21:43Adam: Hey, where's your coolers at?
- 21:45Adam: We want to buy some beer.
- 21:46Adam: Nope.
- 21:48Dedra: So that when we do go back, they have an outdoor upstairs, which like it's right there on what street does it face?
- 21:56Adam: Can't remember.
- 21:57Adam: We weren't driving.
- 21:58Dedra: It very sure.
- 22:00Adam: For the ride.
- 22:01Dedra: So it faces the street.
- 22:02Dedra: So you can actually watch traffic and all that stuff.
- 22:05Dedra: And it's a lot funner to watch traffic when you're not in it.
- 22:08Dedra: And then also when you're up that high and the weather's perfect and you've got a beer, way, way better.
- 22:14Adam: It would have been actually a perfect day to sit up there because it was overcast.
- 22:18Adam: Yeah.
- 22:18Adam: It was uh good weather.
- 22:19Adam: I mean, it was nice.
- 22:20Dedra: Uh it was kind of windy though.
- 22:22Adam: It was windy, yeah.
- 22:23Adam: But I still would have loved to sit out there.
- 22:24Adam: They just didn't have it open because we were there like right at opening.
- 22:28Adam: Yeah.
- 22:28Adam: So I think it's more of like an evening thing that they opened up.
- 22:31Dedra: Oh, true.
- 22:31Dedra: That would have been beautiful actually in the evening.
- 22:33Dedra: It would have been because I know they would have had it lit up really well.
- 22:36Adam: And it was nice.
- 22:38Dedra: The funny thing when we were leaving, like we were in the street, it literally has a sign that faces south, which is where all the traffic is.
- 22:48Dedra: And it's all not a sex shop.
- 22:52Adam: Would people confuse that with a name like Lovecraft?
- 22:56Dedra: Which I mean, I guess I can see.
- 22:58Dedra: And then like the just the the that part of it that faces south, it's not a big part of the building, it's the side of the building.
- 23:06Dedra: The main part of the building where the entrance is actually faces east.
- 23:10Dedra: So you have to pull into like this long parking lot.
- 23:13Dedra: So I guess from the street, when you're looking at it, it could kind of look like I don't know.
- 23:19Adam: It's it doesn't look like there's any food there.
- 23:22Dedra: No, and there's not when any windows, it's a brick building, and there's a lot of plants that kind of cover it.
- 23:28Dedra: Yeah.
- 23:29Dedra: So I guess it kind of does look like it could be a little sketchy.
- 23:33Dedra: And then it's called Lovecraft.
- 23:36Dedra: Okay.
- 23:36Dedra: So they were right.
- 23:37Dedra: They were right for doing that.
- 23:38Dedra: Design was perfect.
- 23:40Dedra: Also by the entrance, there's this beautiful spray painted mural of a hummingbird.
- 23:46Dedra: And it is just, I'm not 100% sure who did it.
- 23:49Dedra: We did take a picture um out front of uh Lovecraft, but and I'll definitely have to make sure I post that, but it it was beautiful, just the colors and the details.
- 23:58Adam: Yeah, it was a hummingbird, right?
- 24:00Dedra: Yeah, very Arizona-esque.
- 24:02Adam: Yeah.
- 24:02Adam: And then uh as you walk towards the entrance, they had actually like a little bucket with blankets so that if you did go upstairs and it was cold, you had a blanket if if you needed one.
- 24:12Adam: I thought that was funny too.
- 24:14Adam: But walking in, I it was almost unexpected.
- 24:17Adam: So you walk in and they have a small wall kind of blocking the the dining room, which you can go around on either side.
- 24:23Adam: And it was like dark, it almost looked like like reddish light in there.
- 24:28Dedra: It kind of reminded me of Durant's in downtown Phoenix.
- 24:31Dedra: Have you ever been to Durant's and you walk in and how it's just dark and there's red all over the place?
- 24:36Dedra: That's kind of how Lovecraft is set up.
- 24:38Dedra: Yeah.
- 24:39Dedra: But yeah, it is it is weird when you walk in because you walk up to the doors and it's just clear glass doors, but there's like curtains on the inside of the of all the doors and the walls.
- 24:49Dedra: So you you're just kind of like, what the heck isn't a sex shop?
- 24:54Dedra: It's like, why do they have curtains in the window and not like cool, neat looking curtains?
- 25:00Dedra: It's kind of a little bit shabby.
- 25:02Dedra: So you go in, not really, I didn't know what to expect.
- 25:06Dedra: I was like, oh gosh, what are we getting into?
- 25:08Adam: I don't know.
- 25:08Dedra: But you open it and you still don't know because your eyes are adjusting from being outside and you're going directly into the dark, and then there's a wall, like so don't when when you walk into Lovecraft, just be careful.
- 25:23Dedra: Let your eyes address to the dark and just know that there's gonna be a wall and a little table when you first walk in.
- 25:28Dedra: So when you walk in, either like hurry and shoot me to the right or to the left.
- 25:34Adam: And everything had like a the wood in there also.
- 25:36Adam: So it was like it just added to the darkness.
- 25:38Adam: It almost was like black walls, that red lighting was like chandeliers, if I remember correctly.
- 25:44Dedra: Like I, it's very beautiful once you do get you know around the wall and you get seated.
- 25:49Dedra: The bar, it's very stately.
- 25:51Dedra: It's just it's there.
- 25:53Dedra: The wood, everything, the quality.
- 25:55Dedra: It's a beautiful, beautiful place.
- 25:57Dedra: And it's just a very like just intimate dining kind of feel.
- 26:01Adam: And one of the best things about the whole bar area and and being there at the restaurant, we went there for the food.
- 26:07Adam: I mean, the the New Mexico style food, but they also had craft beer and not just any craft beer, they had 25 beers on town.
- 26:14Adam: Oh, oh my God.
- 26:15Adam: I forgot wonderful stuff.
- 26:17Dedra: We talked all about that food and completely.
- 26:21Dedra: I don't know how I just I was so blown away by the food and how good it was.
- 26:28Dedra: Like, like, wow, we didn't even get to the beer part yet.
- 26:31Adam: I think between the four of us that were at that place, we probably had 22 beers.
- 26:35Adam: We're not gonna talk about all of them.
- 26:38Dedra: Oh man.
- 26:39Adam: And some of them were duplicates.
- 26:40Adam: So I just I actually ended up getting two tasters, five and five.
- 26:45Adam: The tasters were you, oh, you can get up to five, and it's like, why would you get less?
- 26:50Dedra: True.
- 26:50Adam: I'd rather get two of something than get less.
- 26:53Dedra: Very true.
- 26:54Adam: And um, I'm yeah, you had a a whole bunch of hazies, and I think I ended up getting all of them at some point too.
- 27:00Adam: So I'll let you start.
- 27:02Dedra: So I think their menu is like one through seven.
- 27:05Dedra: I think those are all their hazyes, right?
- 27:08Dedra: I think it was one through seven.
- 27:09Dedra: So I was like, all right, let's do this.
- 27:11Dedra: One through five, that's my flight.
- 27:14Dedra: And she was like, all right, that's easy.
- 27:18Dedra: Yeah.
- 27:19Dedra: So the in my flight, I had a mortalis, uh, Strange Philosophies.
- 27:24Adam: That one was probably my favorite.
- 27:26Dedra: That was really good.
- 27:27Dedra: Yep.
- 27:27Adam: Out of all the beers actually on the menu there, that was probably my favorite.
- 27:32Dedra: Duplicates.
- 27:34Adam: Yes, I ended up getting that one also because I was like, I didn't even know.
- 27:37Adam: And Mortalis is a great brewery.
- 27:39Adam: I love I love a lot of their beers that they do.
- 27:41Adam: Um, I believe most of the beers that I had were sours from them, and they do like really cool ones.
- 27:49Adam: Well, they're just like vibrant, like neon colors, and I like those a lot.
- 27:52Adam: They actually had one which was called um Hydra.
- 27:57Adam: And we've had this in cans.
- 28:00Adam: We've had different versions of them.
- 28:01Adam: I think one day we had a beer share where we had like three different versions of the Hydra, and this one was good.
- 28:08Adam: It is a smoothie type sour that is just, I mean, it's just out of this world.
- 28:13Adam: Just I can't even remember the fruits that are in it.
- 28:16Adam: It was like deep red color, thick.
- 28:18Adam: I mean, that's your cup of tea right there.
- 28:21Dedra: It is.
- 28:21Dedra: I I'm a big fan of the smoothie sours.
- 28:24Dedra: So definitely.
- 28:25Dedra: The other pour that I had or the other part of my flight was uh a beer by Azul Azul.
- 28:32Dedra: Look at me.
- 28:35Dedra: Speaking Spanish bilingual, my bilingualness slipped out.
- 28:39Dedra: It's uh Azul, Astro Zombie.
- 28:43Dedra: Um, and then I had Tin Barn, Baby Llama.
- 28:47Dedra: Uh another one, or not another one, but I had one actually by AZ Wilderness, which was actually really neat.
- 28:54Dedra: I appreciated that they were there and a part of it, but it was called uh Usual and Strange.
- 28:59Dedra: And the last part of it is Harlan.
- 29:02Dedra: I had to get Harlan because I just feel like that's something that we don't often see or get out here.
- 29:07Dedra: So I got Harlan and it was uh pina break.
- 29:11Dedra: Uh I really liked that entire flight.
- 29:14Dedra: And had we not ate or had I not ate so much, I think I would definitely would have been there with you on that second flight and I would have I just pushed through.
- 29:23Dedra: I would have had um that smoothie sour for sure.
- 29:28Adam: Oh yeah.
- 29:28Adam: Which I I think we shared it.
- 29:29Adam: I put it in the middle and I had you you you drank some of it also.
- 29:33Dedra: But I wasn't gonna share it.
- 29:35Adam: You wouldn't have.
- 29:35Dedra: No.
- 29:36Adam: But the tin barn, do you remember I just had that stampede when we were over at the Sleepy Whale?
- 29:40Dedra: Yeah.
- 29:41Adam: Yeah.
- 29:41Adam: So this was another one.
- 29:42Adam: I mean, just having that uh that that other tin bar, and I ended up having that one too, the baby llama.
- 29:47Adam: That was that was really good.
- 29:48Adam: Um, I got some unique ones.
- 29:50Adam: So uh um the hazy's, I knew you were gonna get those.
- 29:53Dedra: Right.
- 29:54Adam: And I was gonna get like the few that I really wanted to try, but I had some interesting ones on top of that.
- 30:00Adam: And I'm not gonna go through every single beer that I had, but uh Mother Earth, now the California cream's one that has been around for a long time.
- 30:09Adam: I've got it a lot, you you especially, because it's usually on nitro.
- 30:12Adam: And back in the day, that was one of the ones that you enjoyed most when we were like in San Diego.
- 30:17Adam: Um, they had one called California Screamin', and it was a pumpkin uh cream ale.
- 30:25Adam: So I saw that on the menu.
- 30:28Adam: I'm like, I have to have that one, and it was really good.
- 30:31Adam: I mean, to have like a whole pint, I feel like it'd be I would get tired of the flavor, but it was like because of the the creaminess to it, the pumpkin, it was almost like a pumpkin spice latte beer almost.
- 30:42Adam: It was like that that smooth, not as sweet as one of those coffees, but still really good flavor.
- 30:48Adam: Um, I talked about the hydra already.
- 30:51Adam: I had one from Zool also, and I am gonna admit my mistake.
- 30:56Adam: Last week we were talking about the Lunchbox Legend.
- 30:59Adam: Randy called me out on the um on the comments, but we had the PBJ mixtape, and that one is the one that we had before.
- 31:10Dedra: That was yes, that's the one that I was referring to that I said I really enjoy and really like that one.
- 31:16Adam: That was the grape jelly one.
- 31:17Dedra: Yeah, I like that one a lot.
- 31:19Adam: Yes, there was that day we had another beer, but I don't remember where it was from or where it was at or whose house it was.
- 31:26Adam: I I don't remember anything.
- 31:28Adam: All I remember is the name was Uncrustable.
- 31:30Adam: I don't know.
- 31:32Adam: I could just see like a little cloud going with like cartoons playing in my head because I'm just like, it's probably out of it at that point.
- 31:42Dedra: I guess the wheels are busted and falling off.
- 31:46Adam: Oh man.
- 31:47Adam: Yeah, I I can see that.
- 31:50Adam: Um, there exists.
- 31:51Adam: I had a uh IPA from there, and actually, out of all the beers that I had, that was my least favorite.
- 31:56Adam: It was called uh the artifact.
- 31:57Adam: Still, it was a good IPA, nice and smooth.
- 32:00Adam: It just wasn't my favorite.
- 32:01Adam: And one from Fuzzbot, and this is out of Temp E.
- 32:04Adam: And I want to get to that brewery, but they had one called uh Dinosaur Dance, and that was a really good IPA.
- 32:10Adam: I liked it.
- 32:11Adam: I think I've had it at Beer Research Institute also.
- 32:14Adam: Um, I think that's the IPA that I had when well we when we were there.
- 32:19Adam: Uh I don't know, it's been what, a couple months?
- 32:21Adam: Maybe longer.
- 32:22Adam: I can again time goes just as my as these wheels are breaking.
- 32:26Adam: I don't know.
- 32:27Adam: But that PBJ mixtape, that is that one is really good.
- 32:32Adam: And that's probably I do like that one more than that lunchbox legend.
- 32:35Adam: I and I couldn't tell.
- 32:36Adam: I'm like, maybe because we're at home, it just tastes different.
- 32:39Adam: I didn't even have the right name, it didn't even have the right picture on it.
- 32:45Dedra: Not even the right state.
- 32:46Dedra: Was it even with me?
- 32:49Adam: Yes, you were there, you're always there, and I appreciate that because we get to do these things together.
- 32:54Dedra: That is true.
- 32:55Dedra: So I had to Randy, I'm like, you know, Brandy, you know we can never have you on our show, right?
- 33:00Dedra: Because we say everything wrong.
- 33:04Adam: We don't want to be corrected the entire time.
- 33:06Dedra: We forget all the names.
- 33:10Adam: He would just be sitting here going, oh my god.
- 33:13Dedra: It's like, these get a load of these two, these guys.
- 33:17Dedra: Just be like, I don't know.
- 33:20Adam: We're having fun.
- 33:21Adam: Oh, but that was, I mean, that love craft.
- 33:25Adam: Holy crap.
- 33:26Adam: With the amount of craft beers I have, I feel like we got to give them a little bit of time because I want all those beers to change and I want to have a whole new set of 25 beers when we go the next time.
- 33:38Dedra: Yes, I want to go back and have that fried chicken because if their food again was that good, I can't imagine how this fried chicken's gonna turn out.
- 33:47Adam: Oh man, and that was just a weekend thing too, like you said.
- 33:50Adam: So they had another thing on the menu that I was just itching to try.
- 33:54Adam: And for no better reason than it was unique.
- 33:57Adam: They had a green chili shepherd's pie.
- 34:01Adam: And I was like, I'm like, I I've had shepherd's pie at restaurants like two times ever.
- 34:07Adam: And I always like to get something unique on the menu.
- 34:09Adam: I I mean, I'm never gonna turn down a good burger, and the green chili burger just had our name just singing with a with a fried egg, and that just got me.
- 34:17Adam: If you know anything about New Mexico cuisine, fried eggs go on a lot of the food, and that's how I grew up too.
- 34:22Adam: It's like we're having dinner, having tamales, fried egg goes on top.
- 34:26Adam: Enchiladas, fried egg goes on top.
- 34:29Adam: So that to have that option there also was just so good.
- 34:33Adam: So the shepherd's pie is something that I feel like I have to try there.
- 34:38Dedra: Well, when we were looking at their menu, there was like, well, I think we were stuck between at least four, four or five different items.
- 34:45Dedra: And I had actually told you, like, hey, we need to like not share a dish and just divide and conquer.
- 34:50Dedra: I'm so glad we did not.
- 34:52Dedra: Oh man, I was stuck.
- 34:52Dedra: There was no way that I was gonna be able to eat half of mine and the other half of yours.
- 34:59Dedra: Forget that.
- 35:00Adam: Yeah, no, no way.
- 35:01Adam: And plus we were sharing too.
- 35:02Adam: We had the chips and salsa, plus we were sharing that guessanilla also.
- 35:06Adam: Oh, there was plenty of good food to try.
- 35:08Dedra: If and when you guys go out to Lovecraft, bring a lot of friends.
- 35:12Dedra: Yes.
- 35:13Adam: Grab like four things for the table and everybody just go to town.
- 35:16Dedra: Order the whole menu, eat the whole menu.
- 35:19Adam: Yes, or just go a bunch of times.
- 35:21Adam: I mean, that'd be fun too.
- 35:22Dedra: Well, for us, it's so far.
- 35:24Dedra: It is so and and I was actually teasing and was like, well, it's early enough in the day.
- 35:29Dedra: And I was like, we just had lunch, we can circle back around and have dinner.
- 35:34Dedra: So I was mapping it out, and I'm like, okay, the next place and the place after that.
