- 0:00Speaker 1: I lost my wallet and I haven't gotten paid. It's
- 0:02Speaker 1: one more thing.
- 0:04Speaker 2: I'm one more thing, say Rare Michelangelo hosted one more
- 0:11Speaker 2: Thing podcast Before we get to that. Though, Joe knows
- 0:15Speaker 2: this story, so I understand how impactful this was for me.
- 0:18Speaker 2: He knows my backstory. I just walked into the restroom
- 0:24Speaker 2: and there were women in there. Oh, and I had
- 0:29Speaker 2: a flashback. It was amazing, I could see it. So
- 0:36Speaker 2: when I was ten years old Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs
- 0:43Speaker 2: father son baseball trip with my dad, I tell my
- 0:47Speaker 2: dad I need to go to the bathroom, and I
- 0:49Speaker 2: accidentally walked in the women's room. And it wasn't until
- 0:52Speaker 2: I was quite always in there and saw a bunch
- 0:54Speaker 2: of women before it registered in my head that I
- 0:56Speaker 2: was in the women's room. And I was so horrified
- 0:59Speaker 2: as a ten year old that I had accidentally walked
- 1:01Speaker 2: into the women's room. I mean just horrified to the core.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I can still picture it. I thought sure they were
- 1:07Speaker 2: gonna announce it over the loud speaker. I came and
- 1:09Speaker 2: sat down with my dad rather than say a funny
- 1:11Speaker 2: thing this happened, Dad, I walked in. I was just horrified,
- 1:14Speaker 2: keeping it a secret. I thought they were gonna announce
- 1:16Speaker 2: it would the ten year old boy who just walked
- 1:18Speaker 2: in the women's room, Please report, police are on the way,
- 1:21Speaker 2: you know that sort of thing. I just had that
- 1:23Speaker 2: flashback because I just walked into the bathroom and there
- 1:26Speaker 2: were two women standing there, and I thought, how did
- 1:27Speaker 2: I get that? They were in some sort of inspectors
- 1:30Speaker 2: doing an inspection? Oh?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Okay, Wow, they put up a sign or should they should?
- 1:38Speaker 3: I could have unleashed right as the door open, because
- 1:40Speaker 3: I was in a real hurry. And the next thing,
- 1:42Speaker 3: you know, I'm exposing myself. And on the news, the
- 1:45Speaker 3: pre pants pulled down exactly and.
- 1:47Speaker 2: They were Wow, the preemptive pulled down. Good lord. And
- 1:50Speaker 2: they were wearing street clothes, so it made it more
- 1:52Speaker 2: of a what is going on here? They should have
- 1:54Speaker 2: had some sort of inspector uniforms on or something or
- 1:58Speaker 2: was it gender pending madness? Anything goes now, it's sick,
- 2:02Speaker 2: horrifying thing. God, nothing happened, Okay, Michael, what's your story?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Had a tough time coming to work today? So I
- 2:08Speaker 1: was getting a ride here. Yesterday I got hit on
- 2:11Speaker 1: the highway. So I'm driving and just going along and
- 2:16Speaker 1: all of a sudden, how somebody hits me on the
- 2:19Speaker 1: rear side of my car, and I see a piece
- 2:21Speaker 1: of my cargo flying off, which is just great, I hear.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, So how flse do you go?
- 2:25Speaker 1: I'm going about sixty five miles an hour.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you could get spun.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I was very lucky I wasn't hurt. So anyway,
- 2:36Speaker 1: what happened was a young kid about twenty years old.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well back up just a second. So he hits you
- 2:41Speaker 2: in the like in the bumper or the.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Side right where the rear tire is, the left rear
- 2:46Speaker 1: tire right above that.
- 2:47Speaker 2: It's amazing that you didn't get spun out. Yeah, so
- 2:51Speaker 2: what what happened? Did you just end up slowing down
- 2:54Speaker 2: and coming to a stop?
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah I did. I just slowed down, came to a
- 2:58Speaker 1: stop and just went to the you know, right side
- 3:01Speaker 1: of the road. And he went to the right side
- 3:03Speaker 1: of the road, and that's where we you know, comes out. Oh,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I was trying to make a lane.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Change and yeah, you know, I didn't see you.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Didn't see you. Okay, So this is the first time
- 3:13Speaker 1: he's ever been in an accident. I guess he's really nervous.
- 3:16Speaker 1: He's twenty probably, I would say twenty years old, young,
- 3:19Speaker 1: young kid child.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Then he tells me I said, well, I said, I've
- 3:23Speaker 1: been through this before. I said, so, don't worry, you know,
- 3:26Speaker 1: you just get let's just exchange our insurance information. Then
- 3:29Speaker 1: he looks at me wide eyed and goes, I don't
- 3:32Speaker 1: have insurance.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Oh boy, oh my insurance expired. Woh no, and that's
- 3:39Speaker 2: when you clutch your neck. Of course, it doesn't do
- 3:40Speaker 2: any good if he doesn't have an insurance.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And I said, well, let's, you know, exchange the information stuff.
- 3:45Speaker 1: He goes, all right, except my wallet was stolen at
- 3:47Speaker 1: the club the other night. Okay, no, no, I thought
- 3:51Speaker 1: the same thing too, Katie. But okay, he gave me
- 3:54Speaker 1: all the information he had me, you know, gave the
- 3:56Speaker 1: cell phone, the email, his home address, everything, said try
- 4:00Speaker 1: the cell phone right now. You know you can see
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's me.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You know it's a burner. I don't know. I hope not.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But I his car was bamboozled by his sob story.
- 4:12Speaker 3: She's heard it all far.
- 4:15Speaker 2: His car is totaled.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, his car was like he couldn't drive, he couldn't
- 4:19Speaker 1: drive away?
- 4:20Speaker 2: What was wow? What was he driving as a guy
- 4:22Speaker 2: with no insurance and no wallet?
- 4:24Speaker 1: It was a Ford Sedan, m so it wasn't in
- 4:27Speaker 1: a bad car. But it's just the way he hit me.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I mean, he just completely went right in, Like.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Who uses the term sedan? What are you eighty five
- 4:34Speaker 2: years old?
- 4:34Speaker 1: Well, I was trying to, you know, leave it a
- 4:37Speaker 1: little generic.
- 4:38Speaker 3: It's it's a perfectly reasonable term. I don't attack him
- 4:41Speaker 3: for using the term sedan. Told me what kind of
- 4:44Speaker 3: car it is?
- 4:44Speaker 2: That was a weird attack.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yes, that was it?
- 4:46Speaker 2: A Taurus. That was That was a weird attack. That's bizarre.
- 4:49Speaker 4: Wow, wow, odd thing to go after, Michael Foarr.
- 4:53Speaker 2: You know, I can't believe he got hit in the
- 4:56Speaker 2: tie in the tire area at sixty five and didn't
- 4:59Speaker 2: end up yeah, crashing. Yeah, it's quite amazing.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I'm just glad I didn't hit the fuel tank, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 1: just it was near the fuel tank area, so I thought, oh.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Boy, and bad enough to total his sedan?
- 5:09Speaker 4: Yeah, how many likes he got on that post he
- 5:12Speaker 4: was checking when he hit you?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Yeah, no, kidding, kidding, Yeah, God dang it. If you
- 5:17Speaker 2: if you're living a lifestyle where your wallet gets stolen
- 5:20Speaker 2: at the club and you got no insurance. I would
- 5:23Speaker 2: drive extra careful because just you know, you're living on
- 5:27Speaker 2: the edge of it all falling apart.
- 5:29Speaker 3: If you were that person, you wouldn't know to drive
- 5:33Speaker 3: extra carefully.
- 5:34Speaker 2: I guess you're right. That's a great point in this case.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He was a very nice young man. I think unfortunate, Unfortunately.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I think this is a case of poverty. And he
- 5:44Speaker 1: just he said, I was waiting to get paid. I
- 5:45Speaker 1: was just switch to a different insurance. He's telling me
- 5:47Speaker 1: the sob story. You know, I'm actually starting to feel
- 5:49Speaker 1: bad for him because I can imagine being in this situation.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I've been down and out before. I know what it.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah, the only way he learns, Michael, is if you
- 5:57Speaker 3: take what little he has from him. Yeah, I leave
- 6:01Speaker 3: him with nothing.
- 6:02Speaker 1: So I'm wondering how this is gonna work. I guess,
- 6:05Speaker 1: I mean, am I not gonna Am I gonna have
- 6:07Speaker 1: to pay for this myself?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Or what do I do?
- 6:09Speaker 5: You know?
- 6:09Speaker 2: I because I got rear entedies. Remember right after I
- 6:11Speaker 2: got my my truck, I got rear in it like
- 6:13Speaker 2: two weeks later. But the guy had insurance and it
- 6:15Speaker 2: costs seven thousand dollars to fix my truck, but his
- 6:17Speaker 2: insurance paid for it, and he didn't dispute in any
- 6:20Speaker 2: way that he was his fault. But what happens when
- 6:23Speaker 2: you get hit by somebody who thout insurance? I don't
- 6:25Speaker 2: have the slight hitting.
- 6:26Speaker 3: A Look at your bill. You have a charge for
- 6:29Speaker 3: uninsured motorist coverage and that so your insurance company will
- 6:35Speaker 3: cover you for that. You will be fine. They will
- 6:38Speaker 3: then check up your right.
- 6:39Speaker 2: That's what I'm gonna ask though. Yeah, did they treat
- 6:41Speaker 2: it like it was your fault in terms of your
- 6:45Speaker 2: Does it count as a claim? It probably does. No,
- 6:49Speaker 2: they treated it like you slapped their mother with the
- 6:51Speaker 2: in the face, and that really sucks. And if that's true,
- 6:55Speaker 2: and I'll bet it is true, that means the second
- 6:57Speaker 2: time it happened, maybe maybe now you get in a
- 6:59Speaker 2: record is your fault, but you've got too Sorry, we're
- 7:02Speaker 2: gonna have to quadruple your insurance or drop you. I
- 7:04Speaker 2: hope that's not true, but it wouldn't surprise me. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 2: that reminded me. I was like roughly that age. I
- 7:10Speaker 2: didn't get into a wreck, but like I was just
- 7:13Speaker 2: my life was going so poorly at this point in
- 7:15Speaker 2: a variety of ways I should do a documentary about
- 7:18Speaker 2: me as like a twenty three year old because it
- 7:20Speaker 2: was sad, sad in so many different ways.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I've had a long sit down interview with a master interviewer.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But I was going to one of my temporary jobs.
- 7:29Speaker 2: I had three jobs at the time. In my temporary
- 7:31Speaker 2: job where I worked at AT and T doing data entry,
- 7:33Speaker 2: where I would do all the data entry really fast
- 7:36Speaker 2: and then go sleep in the toilet because I had
- 7:38Speaker 2: to work at UPS late at night and AnyWho, I'm
- 7:42Speaker 2: on the way.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Just for clarifications sake, since this is the second toilet
- 7:48Speaker 3: related anecdote you've told us during a single podcast segment,
- 7:52Speaker 3: did you literally sleep in a toilet? What was the
- 7:56Speaker 3: other truck in the bathroom?
- 7:58Speaker 2: What was the other toilet related story you just took
- 8:01Speaker 2: in the bathroom? All right, yeah, yeah, that story was this. Yeah.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Were you sleeping in the toilet or.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Were you in the stall? I was in the stall.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I would sit on the stall and I would lay
- 8:11Speaker 2: my arm toilet, sit on the toilet. I put my
- 8:14Speaker 2: arms across my knees. I was more flexible than put
- 8:16Speaker 2: my arms across my knees and lay my head down
- 8:18Speaker 2: on my arms. So you're sleeping on the toilet, right, yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and i'd sleep for us It's like a solid two hours. Wow,
- 8:26Speaker 2: it was a little nap pos. Not a chance you
- 8:30Speaker 2: could if you were as tired as I was, getting
- 8:33Speaker 2: up at like five thirty and going to bed at
- 8:36Speaker 2: three point thirty. So I was sleeping like two hours in
- 8:38Speaker 2: my bed.
- 8:39Speaker 4: If someone put a gun to my head and said
- 8:42Speaker 4: sleep like that, I'd just say shoot me.
- 8:44Speaker 2: There's not a chance AnyWho. I'm on my way to
- 8:47Speaker 2: this fabulous job, very tired in my really really crappy
- 8:52Speaker 2: car that like I had to get in the passenger
- 8:55Speaker 2: side door because the driver's side door didn't open, and
- 8:57Speaker 2: I had no air conditioning, and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 9:01Speaker 2: I was going, yes, why are you looking?
- 9:03Speaker 3: Okay?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Why did the car was horrible? Joe? Joe knew me
- 9:06Speaker 2: when I had that car.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I mean it sounds like a bad car,
- 9:10Speaker 4: but it was so bad that you'd rather sleep on
- 9:12Speaker 4: a toilet.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I couldn't go out and sleep in my car at
- 9:17Speaker 2: that jet to be there in it was it was working, okay.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I was at work at at and I oh
- 9:24Speaker 3: got it okay.
- 9:25Speaker 2: I would go and I do my dad entry and
- 9:27Speaker 2: I'd say, well, I'm gonna go use the restroom, and
- 9:29Speaker 2: they caught on to the fact that I wasn't coming
- 9:30Speaker 2: back for two hours. But I'd go sleep in the
- 9:32Speaker 2: toilet for two hours not come back. But I didn't
- 9:34Speaker 2: have any work for me to do. It's not like
- 9:36Speaker 2: it made any difference.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Well, right, as you've explained in the past, everybody else
- 9:40Speaker 3: there was working as slowly as possible. Yes, yeah, well
- 9:44Speaker 3: the kind of person, the people they were, you would
- 9:47Speaker 3: knock it off quick.
- 9:48Speaker 2: And then grab some some sleepy time. But I was
- 9:50Speaker 2: on the way to work and I was going to
- 9:52Speaker 2: run out of gas, and I didn't have any money.
- 9:54Speaker 2: I was in a jam here because I was like, really,
- 9:56Speaker 2: paycheck to paycheck, you know, the kind of paycheck to
- 9:58Speaker 2: paycheck where you're like over extended, but you're waiting for
- 10:01Speaker 2: that paycheck and you're gonna try to deposit it and
- 10:04Speaker 2: you need the money the second. It's your account. Sort
- 10:06Speaker 2: of life that I had there for a while, which sucks,
- 10:09Speaker 2: And if you're living that way right now, I feel
- 10:11Speaker 2: bad for you because it's rough. Anyway, I was gonna
- 10:16Speaker 2: run out of gas, and I need some money. So
- 10:17Speaker 2: I stopped to get gas, and I told the clerk
- 10:19Speaker 2: who worked there, look, I need gas to get to work.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I will have money by the end of the day.
- 10:25Speaker 2: I can pay you back. Here's my watch. Can I
- 10:29Speaker 2: fill up my tank or I don't even think I
- 10:30Speaker 2: did that. I got like ten dollars with a gas
- 10:32Speaker 2: which back then was ten gallons of gas. Here's my watch.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I'll come back and get my watch. And then he
- 10:37Speaker 2: was fine with it. So he took my watch. He
- 10:40Speaker 2: let me get ten dollars worth of gas, and then
- 10:41Speaker 2: I brought him ten dollars later in the day and
- 10:43Speaker 2: he gave me my watch back. Beautiful. It was a
- 10:46Speaker 2: beautiful story. It's a beautiful story of a man whose
- 10:50Speaker 2: life was going so freaking crappily at the time of
- 10:53Speaker 2: a minor ray of sunshine. So he used the barter system.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So I used the barter system. But anyway, I rely
- 11:00Speaker 2: to that dude that you that ran into you with
- 11:02Speaker 2: a no insurance lost his wallet in that whole thing,
- 11:06Speaker 2: hands in love, you wanted to pay, okay.
- 11:09Speaker 5: So I had a similar circumstance, almost identical circumstance to
- 11:13Speaker 5: Michael Angelo's thing a woman hits me didn't have insurance,
- 11:17Speaker 5: except she fought me. She wanted to really tussle over it.
- 11:20Speaker 5: She ends up getting arrested and going to jail. Anyway,
- 11:23Speaker 5: she lost the license yet she no Later police had
- 11:27Speaker 5: to go to her house and she got in all
- 11:28Speaker 5: kinds of trouble. However, my insurance agent they canceled me
- 11:33Speaker 5: over this incident. Yeah, And I went in and I said, hey,
- 11:37Speaker 5: what's going on. Why are they canceled? I'm sorry, Yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 5: you've been in this accident. But I found you another
- 11:42Speaker 5: policy with a different company. Unfortunately, your premium's going way up, like,
- 11:46Speaker 5: but that's the best you can do. And I got
- 11:49Speaker 5: in touch with the insurance commission, our state's insurance commission.
- 11:53Speaker 5: They told me go and meet the guy and say
- 11:55Speaker 5: you talked to the insurance commission and this doesn't seem right.
- 11:58Speaker 5: And I swear to God that I spun around got
- 12:01Speaker 5: my policy back at the same premium. It was amazing.
- 12:04Speaker 5: He's like, oh this, let me go in the other
- 12:06Speaker 5: room for a minute, and he left and came back.
- 12:07Speaker 2: So I'm sorry.
- 12:08Speaker 5: There was a mistake. We made a mistake, and I
- 12:09Speaker 5: can't believe we made this mistake. Here's your old policy back.
- 12:12Speaker 5: I remember you telling me that story. There is a
- 12:13Speaker 5: lesson there that if you think you're really being screwed,
- 12:16Speaker 5: you should attack. You should contact the state insurance Commission
- 12:20Speaker 5: because they will fight for that sort of thing and
- 12:23Speaker 5: apparently put the fear of God in him if they're
- 12:24Speaker 5: doing something untoward.
- 12:26Speaker 1: This is great info for me.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Good now, Yeah, yeah, yeah, God dang it. That sucks though.
- 12:31Speaker 2: I get hit by somebody else who doesn't have insurance
- 12:35Speaker 2: and so my rates go up. I mean, that's just
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't know what to do with that. But the
- 12:40Speaker 2: insurance company would say, this is Joe's line. Usually the
- 12:43Speaker 2: insurance company would say, well, we're a for profit business
- 12:48Speaker 2: and you live in a state where there are thousands
- 12:51Speaker 2: of drivers without insurance. We can't just eat all that, right, right,
- 12:56Speaker 2: You signed a contract. Is this your signature? Yeah? Yeah,
- 12:59Speaker 2: contract says we can do this, so bye.
- 13:04Speaker 1: I gotta get an electric bike. Well, I guess that's it.
