- 0:00Today we're starting and ending with the book of Obadiah because
- 0:05it's only 1 chapter long. So I will read the introduction
- 0:08to this and the commentary and talk about some things as that
- 0:15come to mind as we read this. So let's start with a prayer.
- 0:19Dear Lord, please be with us as we read through this chapter and
- 0:23let the Holy Spirit give us wisdom and insight.
- 0:25We ask this in Jesus name, Amen. So the introduction to this
- 0:30book, it says why read this book?
- 0:32Has anyone ever taken advantage of you and gotten away with it?
- 0:36Perhaps a friend or maybe even a family member turned on you when
- 0:40you needed help. Obadiah tells us that God will
- 0:45deal with such injustices. So who wrote the book Obadiah?
- 0:50An otherwise unknown prophet whose name means servant or
- 0:55worshipper of the Lord. When was it written?
- 0:59The date is disputed. Some think Obadiah prophesied
- 1:03and wrote between 8:50 and 7:32 BC, but it's more likely that he
- 1:10prophesied and wrote between six O 5 and 585 BC.
- 1:16What was happening in the world at this time?
- 1:19God's people have had a long standing feud with Edom.
- 1:24Today that would be southwestern Jordan, that area at least a
- 1:31neighboring nation of distant blood relatives through Jacob's
- 1:35brother Esau. If you remember, Esau was the
- 1:38one who gave up his right as the first born, and he did it
- 1:43because he wanted some Stew that Jacob had made.
- 1:46And so he gave up his first right, his, I guess, his right
- 1:50of being the first born. And that traditionally,
- 1:55culturally meant the first born were given a lot more than the
- 2:00next child. And he gave that up because of
- 2:05his desire for something immediate.
- 2:08And we can learn a lot from that in our own lives where we don't
- 2:14want to give up things that are really important just for short
- 2:18term satisfaction. So this is a good reminder of
- 2:22that. The story between Jacob and
- 2:24Esau, they were brothers, but it's kind of interesting because
- 2:28God, I believe, just knew what Esau would be like because their
- 2:35birth, their whole story was very interesting.
- 2:38So anyway, going back to this, when Babylon invaded and
- 2:44conquered Judah, the Edomites not only cheered and gloated but
- 2:48also looted Judah in the aftermath.
- 2:53They even can't captured those who tried to escape and turned
- 2:57them over to the enemy. So why was it written to condemn
- 3:03the treachery and arrogance of the Edomites and declare God's
- 3:07inevitable punishment for their crimes against His people?
- 3:11What to look for in Obadiah? Watch for God's loyalty to His
- 3:15people, which is evidenced by the judgment he pronounced
- 3:19against those who defied him by opposing His people.
- 3:23That's something else that we can learn about today because
- 3:26there is this growing anti-Semitism against Jewish
- 3:32people in the world, actually, not just in the Middle East, but
- 3:37in the world that's happening in the US, in Europe, all over the
- 3:42place. And we really need to watch out
- 3:48for that. People can spin things to make
- 3:56people. It's like, it's like gossip.
- 3:58The the gossip that destroys people.
- 4:02You can either build them up or tear them down.
- 4:05And one thing to keep in mind is that all humans are rebellious
- 4:10toward God. So just because God chose Israel
- 4:14doesn't mean that Israel is all good by any means.
- 4:19But God chose Israel. He made his promises to Israel
- 4:24and he will fulfill those promises.
- 4:28And it there is something in Scripture that says, you know,
- 4:31whoever blesses Israel will be blessed and whoever curses will
- 4:34be cursed. The things that we do to other
- 4:37people will come back to us. So when I see these things
- 4:41happening, and just as a whole people talking negatively about
- 4:46Jewish people in public forums, there's a word of warning that
- 4:51the Bible tells us against that. Don't do that because you are
- 4:55setting yourself up to receive justice from God.
- 5:00Because the things that we do to others that are not right will
- 5:06be done back to us. Like if we if we repent and go
- 5:09to God with us, it says he forgets our sins no more.
- 5:13But if we are unrepentant and we are doing things, when judgement
- 5:17time comes, all we can expect is the things we do to others will
- 5:21be done to us. And if you start paying
- 5:25attention to what the Bible says about what God does as
- 5:28punishment to people who do bad things to other people, that
- 5:31happens to them. And that's a part of justice.
- 5:34And God is the one who's going to have justice.
- 5:37We as people don't need to take justice on other people.
- 5:41This is God's. He says, leave it to me.
- 5:43The vengeance is mine. So when that comes, when the
- 5:48time comes where someone offends you, the best thing you can do
- 5:53is pray for them that their eyes be opened to the truth about
- 5:58life, about the world, about God, and then that God.
- 6:03And just know that God said the vengeance is mine.
- 6:06Whatever needs to be done with that offensive person, if they
- 6:10don't change their ways, God will deal with it.
- 6:13It may he's very, he is very slow.
- 6:16Sometimes he's swift with it, but most of the time he's very
- 6:20slow and taking action because he wants everyone to come to
- 6:24repentance. And we have to remember too that
- 6:27we are not all good and we did bad things against God and God
- 6:32was patient with us and gave us time to repent and change our
- 6:37ways. So why should we expect that
- 6:41others would not be given that the same thing?
- 6:44So anyway, let's get into this chapter and read about Obadiah's
- 6:50vision now. It says it was a vision that
- 6:52Obadiah had, which is interesting.
- 6:54And this is what the sovereign Lord says about Edom and that
- 6:58southwestern Jordan. We have heard a message from the
- 7:03Lord. An envoy was sent to the nations
- 7:07to say rise, let us go against her for battle.
- 7:12See, I will make you small among the nations.
- 7:16You will be utterly despised. The pride of your heart has
- 7:21deceived you. We have to be careful about that
- 7:24too, thinking we're better than somebody else.
- 7:26And it says the pride of your heart has deceived you.
- 7:29So I think that could that could be applicable to all of us too,
- 7:34says you who live in the clefts of the rocks.
- 7:37The study Bible says that this could possibly be Patra in
- 7:43Jordan. That's where people did live at
- 7:45that time and make your home on the heights.
- 7:49You who say to yourself, who can bring me down to the ground
- 7:53though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the
- 7:56stars. From there I will bring you
- 7:59down, declares the Lord. And I don't know if I had just
- 8:03read this recently or if this was actually in Jeremiah as
- 8:06well, but that that sentiment about, you know, the pride of
- 8:13the people that live in the clefts of the rock and on the
- 8:15hills, and that though you soar like an eagle, I will bring you
- 8:19down. God hates pride.
- 8:22And when we are boastful or think we are better than other
- 8:26people, that's something God is going to deal with with us.
- 8:31So it, you know, some of these things apply to us as well as
- 8:35these nations that God is talking about.
- 8:38I mean, because God doesn't change and he doesn't have
- 8:40favorites. So that if he's done it to
- 8:42certain people, he will do it to other people too.
- 8:46I mean, this is what we can expect.
- 8:48This is what we can anticipate when we read the Bible.
- 8:50We, we get to know God better. We get to know what he does.
- 8:53He's a God of justice. Yes, he loves, but he brings
- 8:56justice too. So he says our the vision
- 9:00continues. If thieves came to you, if
- 9:02robbers in the night, oh what a disaster awaits you, would they
- 9:08not only as much would they not steal only as much as they
- 9:13wanted? If grape pickers came to you,
- 9:16would they not leave a few grapes?
- 9:18But how? Esau will be ransacked, his
- 9:22hidden treasures pillaged. That's really interesting too.
- 9:27Like I wonder if if the southwestern Jordan area still
- 9:32has hidden treasures from any of the temples that were destroyed.
- 9:37I know everything went to Babylon, but did they take some
- 9:41things and put it into southern Jordan too?
- 9:43Because I do think that this vision or this prophecy, and
- 9:47it's supported by the study Bible as well, It probably is a
- 9:51double fulfillment type prophecy where some of it was fulfilled
- 9:56long ago, but some of it yet remains to be fulfilled.
- 10:00And when we see things like the thief in the night, that makes
- 10:04me think about Jesus saying how he will come like a thief in the
- 10:08night, especially to those who are not watching for it and who
- 10:12are unprepared. And then there is talk about the
- 10:17grape pickers in the harvest. There is this final wrath of God
- 10:22that Jesus will actually do when he come, when he returns, he
- 10:26comes back for wrath this time. And it's all those who are
- 10:29unrepentant. And it talks about essentially a
- 10:32grape harvest and it's a pretty bloody battle is it's a
- 10:37figurative way of describing what will happen.
- 10:40So when I see things like this about the thief in the night and
- 10:43the great pickers, these seem to be like end timed connotations
- 10:49that could be also applicable in this.
- 10:53So in verse 7, it says all your allies will force you to the
- 10:58border. Your friends will deceive you
- 11:01and overpower you. Those who eat your bread will
- 11:06set a trap for you, but you will not detect it.
- 11:11I think about when I read that I think about some things in in
- 11:19the Bible about these where in Daniel.
- 11:23OK, there's another prophecy that talks about the the king of
- 11:28the north and the king of the South, and this is what Daniel
- 11:31talks about. But here's this just came to
- 11:34mind when I was reading it, that those sentences about all your
- 11:40allies will force you to the borders.
- 11:42Your friends will deceive you and overpower you.
- 11:44Those who eat your bread will set a trap for you, but you will
- 11:47not detect it. In Daniel 1127 it says the 2
- 11:52kings with their hearts best bent on evil will sit at the
- 11:57same table and lie to each other, but to no avail because
- 12:02an end will still come at the appointed time.
- 12:05So when I see that, I know this, that the part that Daniel's
- 12:10talking about is the end times and he's talking about the king
- 12:13of the North and the king of the South.
- 12:15And sitting at the same table is something like, you know,
- 12:19friends sit at the same table and there's a deception here and
- 12:22it says and they lie to each other.
- 12:24And that's kind of the same thing that's happening in Daniel
- 12:2911/27. And, and I just, I wonder, you
- 12:34know, like if this has any kind of like Muslim Brotherhood kind
- 12:38of connotation. Because if you look at the
- 12:41nations that surround Israel, that's the majority of what they
- 12:44are in terms of beliefs and the alliances.
- 12:50You know, I think back on October 7th of 2023 and what
- 12:54happened with that and who the allies are.
- 12:57And I know that God is a God of justice and he talks about these
- 13:02things so that what happened on October 7th, 2023 is not going
- 13:06to go unpunished. In fact, that could be why
- 13:10Israel has been successful in destroying many of the leaders
- 13:16who were behind organizing that event.
- 13:19And it remains to be seen. But if this is something that
- 13:24will, you know, this is a, a skirmish, wars and rumors of
- 13:27wars continue until the end. You know, is this something that
- 13:31we will see for many, many years that the end will be slow to
- 13:34come, or is this something that's accelerating?
- 13:38We will only know in hindsight, but I would say that our
- 13:42generation will probably, I mean, my belief is that we will
- 13:46probably see the return of Jesus.
- 13:48I anticipate it. I somewhat expect it and we'll
- 13:53just see what happens. Obviously, I don't know for
- 13:56sure, but this is the time where I think all of us really need to
- 14:00be seriously focused on our relationship with God and
- 14:06whether or not we've repented of it and we've been born again
- 14:11because God's Jesus said that you must be born again to enter
- 14:15the Kingdom of God. And if Jesus does return in our
- 14:18lifetime, then whoever wants to be in God's Kingdom needs to be
- 14:23born again by that time. And that's a spiritual thing.
- 14:26It's when the Holy Spirit resides in US and it's after
- 14:29we've repented, when we are sincerely wanting to be close to
- 14:33God and get rid of our sinfulness and ask Jesus.
- 14:39We have to believe about Jesus. And if we ask Jesus for the Holy
- 14:44Spirit, he will send the Holy Spirit to us and our life will
- 14:48begin to change. And it a real, real life change
- 14:51that really does happen. That's through the power of God,
- 14:55not our own power. So we have to quit trying to
- 14:59just do it all on our own and be, you know, quote, be a better
- 15:02person. Just surrender it all to God and
- 15:05say, God, help me. Help me be the person you
- 15:07created me to be and when we're when when we are sincere about
- 15:12that God will be there. So verse 8 says in that day.
- 15:18That's why again I think about this as an end times related in
- 15:23that day declares the Lord, will I not destroy the wise men of
- 15:27Edom, those of understanding in the mountains of Esau?
- 15:32Your warriors Teeman will be terrified, and everyone in
- 15:36Esau's mountains will be cut down in the slaughter.
- 15:41Now God never does these things without telling us why He does
- 15:45it. So verse 10 tells us why because
- 15:48of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be
- 15:52covered with shame. You will be destroyed forever.
- 15:57So this doesn't look really good for the people that he's
- 16:01referring to. And notice that these people are
- 16:05against Jacob. Jacob is another name for
- 16:07Israel. So the Jewish people, we again
- 16:11need to be careful about what side of this battle we are on,
- 16:16because if we are against Israel, we are essentially
- 16:22against God, because God's going to deal with people who are.
- 16:26So be careful. On that day you stood aloof
- 16:31while strangers carried off his wealth and foreigners entered
- 16:35his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem.
- 16:40You were like one of them. You should not gloat over your
- 16:45brother in the day of his misfortune.
- 16:50So that's interesting too. And again, there's a time where
- 16:53people or Bible scholars talk about the time of Jacob's
- 16:57trouble, when everybody turns against Israel.
- 17:02And so on the day of his misfortune makes me think about
- 17:08Jacob's trouble not. And so it says, you should not
- 17:12gloat over your brother in the day of his misfortune, not
- 17:16rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction,
- 17:20not boast so much in the day of their trouble.
- 17:25And so you think about these kinds of things, like these are
- 17:27brothers. These were brothers, Isaac and
- 17:33Rebecca's children, Jacob and Esau.
- 17:38And so these two were siblings, but they had this long time
- 17:43rivalry that is recorded throughout the the Bible.
- 17:48I mean, there's hostility between them because of the
- 17:50decisions that were made and what Esau gave up on his own.
- 17:54But then he was mad at his brother.
- 17:56And then Jacob became successful and, you know, crossed paths
- 18:00with Esau and they were somewhat OK with one another.
- 18:04But there was this just unresolved issue between the two
- 18:09of them. And I think that's what else
- 18:11what God talks about also with us and especially in our
- 18:15families, we can't let unresolved issues keep ruing
- 18:20because they can pass on for generations.
- 18:22Just think about it like the things that you say.
- 18:24If you have children and you had a rivalry and you start telling
- 18:28your children about your sibling that you don't get along with
- 18:30and all these bad things about them, that'll pass down
- 18:34generation after generation where there won't want to be any
- 18:40friendship between families. As a result of this.
- 18:43And this is what happened between Jacob and Isa.
- 18:46They were brothers and because of things that happened between
- 18:50them, they became separated. Now, I guess you, we all have to
- 18:55pray about it and there can be very, there could be boundaries
- 19:01that are necessary because of someone else's actions and the
- 19:04type of person they are. But you should never, you know,
- 19:09the best thing that you can do is forgive someone for what
- 19:12they've done and pray that God opens their eyes and pray that
- 19:17they come to repentance with God.
- 19:20And that's how we should deal with people who have offended us
- 19:24and are not who are unapologetic for it.
- 19:28So verse 13 says, you should not March through the gates of my
- 19:32people in the day of their disaster, nor gloat over them in
- 19:36their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor seize their
- 19:41wealth in the day of their disaster.
- 19:45You should not wait at the crossroads to cut down their
- 19:48fugitives nor hand over their survivors in the day of their
- 19:53trouble. The Day of the Lord is near for
- 19:58all nations. So again, This is why I think
- 20:02this has a double prophetic significance where it did occur
- 20:09in the BC time frame, but it has an application to the future of
- 20:13what we've not yet experienced. The day of the Lord.
- 20:16We have not experienced that. So it says, and I think this is
- 20:20something we should pay attention to, as you have done,
- 20:23it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your
- 20:28own head. So if we've gone to in
- 20:33repentance to God, it says He will remember our sins no more.
- 20:36So I don't believe this is applicable to anyone who's
- 20:39repented of the bad things that they've done.
- 20:42But those who are unrepentant, this is what they can expect.
- 20:47So he says verse 16, just as you drank on my holy hill, so all
- 20:53the nations will drink continually.
- 20:56They will drink and drink as if they had never, as if they had
- 21:01never been. This is God's wrath.
- 21:03He talks about the cup of wrath. They must drink the cup of
- 21:06wrath. So again, this is another end of
- 21:09the age kind of references to me, but on Mount Zion, that's
- 21:16Jerusalem will be deliverance, it will be holy, and Jacob will
- 21:22possess his inheritance. Israel does not have the land
- 21:26that God promised them today. And so again, this is another
- 21:30reason why I think this is a future prophecy.
- 21:32And I believe this is the return of Jesus because he will, his
- 21:37feet will come down in Jerusalem and that's where he's going to
- 21:40reign from. And is Jerusalem holy right now?
- 21:44No, but it's Jesus who's going to make things holy after his
- 21:49return, after the wrath, things will become holy.
- 21:54So this is to me seems like it's very probable that this is a
- 22:00double prophets prophetic or doubled prophecy.
- 22:04If you want to say that or foreshadowing of a future event.
- 22:07Jacob will be a fire and Joseph aflame.
- 22:10ESA will be stubble. So I was and and they will set
- 22:15him on fire and destroy him. So from this passage at first I
- 22:20was like Jacob will be a fire and Joseph aflame.
- 22:22I'm just kind of wasn't quite sure what that meant.
- 22:24And ESA will be a stubble. So just now as I'm reading it,
- 22:30it seems like to me this is what it says is that Israel is
- 22:35actually going to be the one that comes back against Esau.
- 22:41You know, that I guess that area or that the, the people that he
- 22:47will maybe use them fire and flame because these are Jacob
- 22:54and Joseph, you know, just different tribes, different
- 22:57descendants of them. And maybe the names signify a
- 23:01certain area that will be like Jacob would be all of Israel.
- 23:04Joseph would be a specific tribe.
- 23:09So just, I'm not quite sure, but it certainly says that there's a
- 23:14fire coming from there. And and Jesus, Jesus was a
- 23:18descendant of Judah. So maybe that just could be that
- 23:22Jesus will be doing this too. So Esau will be stubble, though
- 23:25that sounds like that's burnt up stubble.
- 23:28There's like nothing left of it. And they will set him on fire
- 23:31and destroy him. There will be no survivors.
- 23:35So this is really interesting. I guess the hatred and there
- 23:43will be no survivors from Esau is what it says there.
- 23:48This reminded me of another passage, a couple more passages
- 23:52in Isaiah 1 in chapter 34 and one in chapter 63.
- 23:57So in chapter 63, verse one from Isaiah the prophet, it says, who
- 24:02is this coming from? Edom.
- 24:05OK, so that's what we're talking about right now.
- 24:07Southwestern Jordan from Basra with his garments stained
- 24:13Crimson. So I read, who is this robed in
- 24:18splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength.
- 24:23It is I proclaiming victory, mighty to save.
- 24:27Well, this is about Jesus. And when he returns, so
- 24:33apparently there's going to be something significant that
- 24:36happens in Basra. And when we read, there will be
- 24:39no survivors. And his his clothes are stained
- 24:41red. So he's been in a battle and it
- 24:44also says like, no one was with me.
- 24:45I alone did this. So there's a battle forthcoming
- 24:51in this southern part near Basra.
- 24:53And there's something else about setting captives free too.
- 24:57So I don't, you know, who knows what all of that will mean.
- 25:01But again, this is, you know, a lot of prophets are hearing the
- 25:05same things and it's documented in the Bible.
- 25:08So in Isaiah chapter 34, verse 6, it says the sword of the Lord
- 25:13is bathed in blood. It is covered with fat, the
- 25:16blood of lambs and goats, fat from the kidneys of Rams.
- 25:22For the Lord has a sacrifice in Basra and a great slaughter in
- 25:29the land of Edom. So that's twice now where Basra
- 25:34is mentioned and this slaughter. And then we hear in Obadiah that
- 25:41there will be no survivors from Esau.
- 25:44So again, this is, you know, I don't know if anybody in Esau is
- 25:49repentant or if no one ever repents.
- 25:54But if someone repents, God forgets.
- 25:58So anyone who is from that area or a descendant of Esau, if you
- 26:03happen to hear this podcast, repent so that you don't have
- 26:07this happen to you. So continuing on verse 19,
- 26:12people from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau and
- 26:18people from the foothills will possess the land of the
- 26:20Philistines. That's modern day Gaza.
- 26:24So it's really interesting now with what's happened and what's
- 26:27being discussed about Gaza, who is going to end up controlling
- 26:32Gaza after this event? Because this Bible prophecies
- 26:37that people from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Isa and
- 26:40people from the foothills will possess the land of the
- 26:43Philistines. They will occupy the fields of
- 26:47Ephraim and Samaria, and Benjamin will possess Gilead.
- 26:53This company of Israelite exiles who are in Canaan will possess
- 26:59the land as far as Zerfath. And I had to look up Zerfath,
- 27:04where that is, and it's South of Sidon, north of Tyre, and it's
- 27:08in Lebanon. So all the way up to Lebanon.
- 27:13The company of Israelite exiles will possess that land all the
- 27:18way up to Lebanon. So that's not today. the Exiles
- 27:23from Jerusalem who are in Chef, Chef Sephoraid, and I had to
- 27:30look that one up too. That's modern Spain and
- 27:33Portugal. So the Iberian Peninsula, which
- 27:37is really interesting, the Exiles from Jerusalem who are
- 27:41all the way in Spain. So I guess that happened.
- 27:45I, that did happen historically because I did look it up, but I
- 27:49wonder if that's only an historical fact or if there is
- 27:54something in the future that will be relative to Spain as
- 27:58well. the Exiles from Jerusalem who are in Spain will possess
- 28:03the towns of Negev. So this is after the fact.
- 28:06I guess they'll come in from there.
- 28:08Deliverers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of
- 28:13Esau, and the Kingdom will be the Lord's.
- 28:16So this to me is the Millennium reign, the 1000 years that
- 28:20Christ reigns. The Kingdom will be the Lord's.
- 28:25So this is all future prophetic fulfillment.
- 28:28Now I'll just read the questions and answers and we will wrap up
- 28:32this chapter. So who was Edom?
- 28:36The Edomites were descendants of Esau, the twin brother of Jacob.
- 28:40Esau and Jacob, the ancestor of the the ancestor of the
- 28:44Israelites, were rivals, and their descendants continued to
- 28:49compete as nations. Edom occupied the mountainous
- 28:53region southeast of the Dead Sea.
- 28:58What kind of envoy would God send to recruit armies against
- 29:02Edom? It is unclear whether this
- 29:05special special messenger was human or angelic.
- 29:11The result, however, was the same.
- 29:13Edom became involved in a major war.
- 29:17Why would people live among the rocks?
- 29:19Edom was famous for its capital Petra, a city of caves high in
- 29:24solid rock Cliff. Though living among the rocks
- 29:28had its disadvantages, it also had its benefits.
- 29:31The rocks were considered a place of safety from attack.
- 29:35Why mention Esau and Teeman? Esau was the father of the
- 29:39nation of Edom. Teeman was an Edomite city
- 29:43famous for its wise men who ate Edom's bread.
- 29:48Edom's unnamed allies in a culture in which hospitality and
- 29:54eating together were considered basic virtues, to have those who
- 29:58eat your bread turn against you was a graphic picture of the
- 30:03worst kind of betrayal. God said so-called friends of
- 30:08the Edomites would turn on them and exploit them, just as the
- 30:12Edomites had done to the people of Judah.
- 30:15Again, I just wonder, could this be Muslim Brotherhood related?
- 30:20Why was God so angry with Edom? The Edomites were guilty of
- 30:24gross cruelty against God's people.
- 30:27They didn't just stand passively as Judah was conquered, they
- 30:31looted the Kingdom and even captured Judah fleeing citizens
- 30:36and returned them to the Babylonian army.
- 30:38In addition to these crimes, Edom was guilty of arrogance,
- 30:42boasting against God himself. God's wrath came as a righteous
- 30:47response to the nation's blatant defiance.
- 30:51Why was Edom so cruel to Israel? The enmity between Edom and
- 30:55Israel went all the way back to Jacob's relationship with his
- 30:58twin brother Esau. Again, that's why forgiveness is
- 31:02so important. What is the day of the Lord?
- 31:06This refers to the time of God's judgement.
- 31:10What does it mean that Edomites drank on God's holy hill?
- 31:14The Edomites had apparently joined the drunken orgies of the
- 31:18Babylonians as they celebrated the destruction of the temple on
- 31:22Mount Zion. Now the Edomites and others have
- 31:25desecrated God's holy place. OK, now.
- 31:30Now the Edomites and others that had desecrated God's holy place
- 31:34would have to drink a very different beverage, the full cup
- 31:39of God's wrath. In fact, they would drink
- 31:41themselves into oblivion and disappear as a nation.
- 31:45It was be. It would be as if they had never
- 31:49existed. When were these prophecies
- 31:52against Edom fulfilled? Arab invaders began driving the
- 31:57Edomites from their mountain strongholds as early as 500 BC.
- 32:03By the 1st century AD, Edom no longer existed as a nation.
- 32:08In Jesus's day, the family of King Herod was recognized as
- 32:13being of Edomite descent. But following the fall of
- 32:17Jerusalem in AD 70, Edomites totally disappeared from
- 32:22history. Who are the deliverers?
- 32:26They represent future leaders who would restore God's people
- 32:31as a nation. Edom would vanish and Judah
- 32:34would rise from the ashes, demonstrating God's faithfulness
- 32:38to His people, something this may allude to the Messiah who
- 32:43one day would deliver his people from sin.
- 32:47So that concludes chapter the only the book of Obadiah.

- 33:09they were written. So come back for our next
- 33:12episode.
