SPEAKER_03: I wasn't saving Claire too.
0:05
SPEAKER_03: Saving you.
0:07
SPEAKER_03: When I saw the lightning hit the roof, you were electrocuted.
0:12
SPEAKER_03: And when you heard Claire was in the water, you drowned trying to save her.
0:20
SPEAKER_03: Tried, brother.
0:20
SPEAKER_03: I've tried twice to save you, but well, what I try to do.
0:27
SPEAKER_03: You're gonna die, Charlie.
0:38
SPEAKER_00: Hi, and welcome to this episode of Sassin's Sips, where every week we discuss and dissect, while we drink and dish, about another episode of everyone's favorite show except for Agnes, Lost.
0:52
SPEAKER_02: I'm not the only one, damn it.
0:54
SPEAKER_00: Okay, sure.
0:55
SPEAKER_00: Um, and we do this, as I said, while we drink.
0:59
SPEAKER_00: So sometimes conversations are not so coherent, but you love us anyway, and we can live the alcohol.
1:05
SPEAKER_02: FY, by the way, FYI, there was some free gaming happening.
1:10
SPEAKER_02: So expect a shit show.
1:13
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes.
1:14
SPEAKER_00: So we apologize in advance.
1:16
SPEAKER_00: No, we don't.
1:18
SPEAKER_02: We don't apologize for shit.
1:21
SPEAKER_00: And this week's episode is what the fuck is this week's episode?
1:26
SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's uh catch 22.
1:28
SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
1:31
SPEAKER_02: See, I am useful people.
1:33
SPEAKER_00: You did this last time too.
1:34
SPEAKER_00: Fuck me, I got the episode wrong.
1:36
SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm a fucking mess.
1:38
SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, this week's episode is catch 22 from season three.
1:43
SPEAKER_02: So we're in the end half of season three, and I think Oh my god, we got five more episodes after this, right?
1:49
SPEAKER_00: Things things started to like kind of get a little like woof in this episode.
1:54
SPEAKER_02: I just can't wait to talk shit about this season with Jamar.
1:58
SPEAKER_02: That's all I know.
2:00
SPEAKER_00: No, I he he commented on um one of our posts, like when we got to expose, and he's like, Finally, and I really wanted to be like, oh my god, I can't wait to talk to you.
2:10
SPEAKER_00: And then I was like, Oh god, who knows what our schedule is.
2:12
SPEAKER_00: So, like, I don't even want to open that can of worms, but I can't wait.
2:18
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, five, six years we'd be ready.
2:22
SPEAKER_00: And as he's already said, he hates season three, so I have a feeling that that's gonna be one hell of a fun episode.
2:29
SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be two against one, it's gonna be this two against you, this one.
2:32
SPEAKER_02: Well, it's gonna be like three against three, like one of those.
2:37
SPEAKER_00: Okay, because he still loves the show, he just hates the season.
2:40
SPEAKER_02: Good point.
2:40
unknown: Good point.
2:42
SPEAKER_02: I just won't get beat up as much.
2:44
SPEAKER_00: No, you won't.
2:45
SPEAKER_00: You won't.
2:46
SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think that that's see, like in this episode, things are already starting to take a turn, and so I'm excited to talk about this episode.
2:55
SPEAKER_00: I actually am really excited to talk about this episode.
2:58
SPEAKER_02: By the way, I don't know if you want to record, but something before I forget, he watches imposters, and he was and he was re-watching it like a few months ago.
3:07
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh my god, I'm about to re-watch it myself.
3:10
SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen it, and it's only like two or three seasons.
3:15
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so we'll put that on the list.
3:17
SPEAKER_02: I think we might want to, maybe.
3:19
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we can definitely do that.
3:20
SPEAKER_00: I will put it on the list.
3:22
SPEAKER_00: Oh, we we've gone through this whole thing and we haven't even introduced ourselves.
3:26
SPEAKER_00: Oh shit.
3:27
SPEAKER_00: Hi.
3:28
SPEAKER_01: Like we don't know who we are.
3:29
SPEAKER_00: In case this is your first episode, nice random starting point, right?
3:35
SPEAKER_00: Like season three, episode 17, 70-something episodes in.
3:40
SPEAKER_02: Sorry for the mind fuck you're about to experience.
3:43
SPEAKER_00: I am Lisa, and I'm Agnes.
3:46
SPEAKER_00: And as you can already tell, we drink while we do this.
3:50
SPEAKER_00: So let's tell our friends what we're drinking today.
3:54
SPEAKER_02: Because I bought like a shitload of cases of Stella.
3:58
SPEAKER_02: I had a I I grilled.
3:59
SPEAKER_02: I'm the griller of the family.
4:01
SPEAKER_02: I grilled and I barbecued.
4:03
SPEAKER_02: My daughter does exceptional work with the shopping.
4:06
SPEAKER_02: So last time she grilled, she bought a thing over for oh cool.
4:10
SPEAKER_02: We brought it for a week.
4:11
SPEAKER_02: That's good now.
4:12
SPEAKER_02: So we had like a last-minute grilling cookout, and bought all the alcohol and stuff, and we had I had left over food for a week.
4:20
SPEAKER_02: It was awesome.
4:21
SPEAKER_00: Nice.
4:22
SPEAKER_02: So I have a shot of stella in the house.
4:25
SPEAKER_02: FYI Corona refreshers are the best.
4:28
SPEAKER_02: They're 100% better than white claw.
4:30
SPEAKER_02: They're light like a white, like a seltzer, but they're not like they don't taste like static.
4:34
SPEAKER_02: Like white claw, don't like it.
4:38
SPEAKER_00: I'm not really like a static connoisseur, so I don't know.
4:42
SPEAKER_02: I don't like white claw.
4:43
SPEAKER_02: I don't like the self, I don't think I like the hard seltzers at all.
4:46
SPEAKER_02: But the refreshers are the best things since sliced bread.
4:51
SPEAKER_00: And I like I will keep that in mind.
4:53
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
4:54
SPEAKER_00: I guess 22.
4:56
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
4:56
SPEAKER_00: Oh, no, what are you drinking?
4:57
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I have another of the summer, the uh solstice lager.
5:02
SPEAKER_00: We had a birthday party for Alex, and um a buddy of his brought a case, but we have a keg, we had a keg of regular Stella, so nobody ended up drinking them.
5:15
SPEAKER_00: And Alex is like, no, he's he just goes for the regular, so I'm the only one drinking them, so I've been saving them for our recordings.
5:22
SPEAKER_02: I would have drunk, I would have drank them all.
5:25
SPEAKER_02: It's so funny.
5:26
SPEAKER_02: I feel bad because whenever I go to a BYOB like cookout and a kickback to my friends, I always bring like the 24 things of Stella.
5:36
SPEAKER_02: Because it's like it's her whole family.
5:39
SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I always bring it up for everybody, and it's always Stella.
5:41
SPEAKER_02: And I like because I like Stella because I know they're gonna have corona and other stuff.
5:46
SPEAKER_02: So I'm like, I bring the Stella, and I'm always the only one that drinks.
5:50
SPEAKER_00: I love when people I like when people bring stuff that I drink, but I also like when people bring stuff that I never had or don't drink because so you can try it.
6:02
SPEAKER_00: Right.
6:02
SPEAKER_00: I can try it, but then also don't when I have other people in the house, I have you know, something else to offer, something that I might not have thought of myself.
6:11
SPEAKER_02: That's the whole point of I think when you bring we tell you you bring something in my eyes is to bring enough, like yes, I only let's say if a person only drinks one beer.
6:22
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you bring that one beer, but it's also an opportunity to have a wild, a wild-away things to get to your guests without having to spend three thousand dollars, right?
6:33
SPEAKER_02: Absolutely and no one has to spend, you know, everyone spends puts you know, you spend twenty dollars and everyone has a little bit of everything.
6:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, a hundred percent.
6:43
SPEAKER_00: Definitely.
6:44
SPEAKER_00: Can you tell I've been drinking?
6:47
SPEAKER_00: Girl, you're about to tell how I've been drinking.
6:50
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I can't wait.
6:51
SPEAKER_01: Let's go for it.
6:52
SPEAKER_01: All right, let's do this.
6:53
SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think we're up to the episode, so flashback.
6:56
SPEAKER_00: Desmond is in a monastery in Eddington, Scotland, in 1995.
7:01
SPEAKER_00: While in his quarters, he is visited by Brother Campbell, who tells him that Desmond's vow of silence, a test to become a monk, has ended successfully despite the brother's doubts.
7:12
SPEAKER_00: He tells Desmond he is one of us, wrong episode, and says, Welcome, brother.
7:18
SPEAKER_00: And thus is the beginning of Desmond's famous phrase.
7:22
SPEAKER_01: Brother.
7:23
SPEAKER_01: I thought that was the cutest thing ever.
7:25
SPEAKER_01: But oh, that's how you became brother.
7:27
SPEAKER_01: Okay, brother.
7:29
SPEAKER_00: Sometime later, Desmond and Brother Campbell talk about putting labels on the Mariah Vineyard wine bottles they make at the monastery and packing them in crates.
7:38
SPEAKER_00: First of all, I could never work at this because the there'd be no wine left.
7:42
SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm not even in the public and there would be no wine left.
7:45
SPEAKER_00: Like, I can't have wine in my house because I just drink it.
7:49
SPEAKER_02: Maybe that is enough public.
7:51
SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
7:51
SPEAKER_02: Like when you have leftover wine, you make ice cubes out of it.
7:55
SPEAKER_02: Wait.
7:55
SPEAKER_02: Leftover wine?
7:57
unknown: What the fuck?
7:59
SPEAKER_02: What do they do?
8:00
SPEAKER_00: I do not need that hot negativity in my life.
8:03
SPEAKER_00: See, uh like a case of beer, you know, bottles and whatnot in the fridge, that I can space myself because like you open a bottle, you drink it, whatever.
8:12
SPEAKER_00: It it satisfies like the craving if you want a little whatever.
8:14
SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
8:15
SPEAKER_00: But an open bottle of wine, I mean, you just keep pouring like which fills a transit size Starbucks cup.
8:22
SPEAKER_02: I'm just saying.
8:24
SPEAKER_00: Well, my wine glasses already I can fill in in my wine glasses.
8:27
SPEAKER_00: I could already fill a half a bottle of wine.
8:30
SPEAKER_02: Wait, you pour it out into a glass?
8:32
SPEAKER_00: I think fancy.
8:35
SPEAKER_00: But I don't use but I don't use wine glasses.
8:38
SPEAKER_00: I have like little mason jar cups.
8:40
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I have wine glasses.
8:41
SPEAKER_00: When I I mean I have wine glasses, I don't I just use a mason jar because it's bigger.
8:46
SPEAKER_02: I just use a bottle.
8:46
SPEAKER_02: Like either I pour into the wine glass or I just drink the bottle.
8:50
SPEAKER_02: Why don't you a glass?
8:54
SPEAKER_02: You're so fancy pouring into a glass.
8:56
SPEAKER_00: I know.
8:58
SPEAKER_00: Desmond remarks on how Mariah is an odd name for a monastery wine since it was the location where Abraham was asked to kill Isaac in the Bible.
9:08
SPEAKER_00: Campbell reminds him that God ended up sparing Isaac.
9:12
SPEAKER_00: Desmond says that God could have not sought to sacrifice to begin with.
9:16
SPEAKER_00: But Campbell counters that it was necessary as a test of faith and a lesson in the value of sacrifice.
9:24
SPEAKER_00: Brother Martin arrives to tell Desmond that someone is at the monastery looking for him.
9:29
SPEAKER_00: The man follows Brother Martin in and immediately punches Desmond straight in the face, bloodying his nose.
9:37
SPEAKER_00: He apologizes to the brother and leaves.
9:40
SPEAKER_00: Desmond visits and knocks on the door of a house, and Derek, the man who punched him at the monastery, answers.
9:47
SPEAKER_00: Desmond asks to see Derek's sister, but Derek's He tells him to leave.
9:53
SPEAKER_00: The sister Ruth lets him in.
9:56
SPEAKER_00: They sit down to tea, and Desmond explains that he is still a novice at the monastery, but she cuts him off and curtly asks why he is there.
10:06
SPEAKER_00: Desmond felt he owed her an explanation.
10:10
SPEAKER_00: She wonders how he could possibly explain leaving her one week before their wedding and disappearing.
10:16
SPEAKER_00: He says that he had a calling, but she claims his only religious experience in their six years of dating was the Celtic weaning the cup.
10:26
SPEAKER_00: He tells her he was scared and got drunk and asked God if he was doing the right thing.
10:32
SPEAKER_00: He woke up on the street and a man asked him, Can I help you, brother?
10:36
SPEAKER_00: Desmond said he realized he had to sacrifice everything precious for a greater calling.
10:42
SPEAKER_00: Ruth Snydley remarks that it was a good thing he wasn't found by a shepherd, or he'd be off with the sheep.
10:51
SPEAKER_00: She tells Desmond that the next time he breaks up with someone, he should admit it's because he's too scared instead of running away.
10:57
SPEAKER_00: So it's not the same theme.
10:58
SPEAKER_00: Like Desmond is a coward.
11:00
SPEAKER_00: Like this is his same recurring theme.
11:03
SPEAKER_02: But I love the whole conversation with Isaac and Abraham.
11:09
SPEAKER_02: And we already know what he's going through with Charlie.
11:11
SPEAKER_02: I'm like, hee-hee hee he hee hee.
11:13
SPEAKER_00: They really tied that in well.
11:15
SPEAKER_02: Well, I should hope so, they wrote it.
11:21
SPEAKER_00: At night, Desmond is found by Brother Campbell singing and drinking the monastery wine, of which they've only made 108 cases this year.
11:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh, ding ding ding number.
11:32
SPEAKER_00: Brother Campbell tells Desmond he isn't cut out to be a monk.
11:36
SPEAKER_00: Desmond apologizes and offers to do penance, but the brother says it's too late.
11:41
SPEAKER_00: Desmond asks if he is being fired, and the brother says he is, and that although he heard the call, the abbey isn't where Desmond was meant to end up.
11:49
SPEAKER_00: God has bigger plans for him, and he spent too much time running away to realize what he is running towards.
11:56
SPEAKER_00: Desmond asks what he should do now, and the brother simply replies, Whatever comes next.
12:03
SPEAKER_00: Desmond enters Brother Campbell's office the next day to say goodbye and returns his habit.
12:09
SPEAKER_00: Campbell says Brother Martin can give him a ride into town if Desmond helps to load some wine crates into a customer's car.
12:18
SPEAKER_00: Outside, the brother talks with a female customer about her father's donation as Desmond wheels the crates out.
12:26
SPEAKER_00: Desmond and the customer meet for the first time.
12:31
SPEAKER_00: They joke with each other and flirt.
12:33
SPEAKER_00: He reveals that he is a recently fired monk and that God allegedly has bigger plans for him.
12:40
SPEAKER_00: She suspects he doesn't believe that and he agrees.
12:45
SPEAKER_00: Penny offers to bring him along with her to Carlisle, and they smile and laugh as they depart.
12:52
SPEAKER_00: So here you have what we call a meat cute.
12:56
SPEAKER_00: No?
12:57
SPEAKER_00: Isn't that what it's called?
12:59
SPEAKER_00: A meat cute?
13:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
13:01
SPEAKER_00: Like, I don't know.
13:03
SPEAKER_00: Shut up.
13:04
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
13:06
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
13:09
SPEAKER_00: On the island.
13:11
SPEAKER_00: Charlie, Hurley, Jin, and Desmond trek through the jungle in the rain while Hurley and Charlie playfully argue over who would win in a foot race.
13:20
SPEAKER_00: The Flash or Superman.
13:23
SPEAKER_00: Charlie steps on a trigger thread and lifts his foot, activating an arrow which is now shot through his neck.
13:29
SPEAKER_00: They try to help him, but Charlie dies.
13:33
SPEAKER_00: There are flashes of different images.
13:35
SPEAKER_00: A reverse version of Hurley pulling the cable, a blinking red light behind dark clouds at night.
13:42
SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
13:42
SPEAKER_02: I was trying to get your attention from I was trying to when they panned over to the head monk, I'm sorry, and there was a picture of him, an older woman.
13:52
SPEAKER_00: I was like, wait, is that about that?
13:54
SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is.
13:55
SPEAKER_00: Yes! Okay.
13:56
SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, this is like the most awkward picture too.
13:59
SPEAKER_00: But it looks like they just cut out two pictures and like stuck them in the scene.
14:04
SPEAKER_00: I was like, wait, is that but is that is that oh shit?
14:10
SPEAKER_00: I I completely forgot about that.
14:12
SPEAKER_02: I caught something.
14:13
SPEAKER_02: At least he didn't think I was gonna catch it, I bet.
14:15
SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
14:17
SPEAKER_00: Yay! Uh the photo of Desmond and Penny, an image of Jin Charlie and a set of hands holding a parachute, the feet of a person in gear hanging from a tree, the helmeted head of the same person, and a fast image of the face of Penny with a green backdrop, which might suggest the island.
14:40
SPEAKER_00: Desmond looks up, startled from his flashes of imminent future events.
14:45
SPEAKER_00: He drops his fishing pole and runs up to Hurley to ask him about the cable.
14:50
SPEAKER_00: Hurley wants to know why.
14:51
SPEAKER_00: So Desmond tells him it's important and that someone is coming.
14:56
SPEAKER_02: I have a question, maybe a little bit too early, but I'm gonna forget.
15:00
SPEAKER_02: So because he saw this vision, and everything he does is to get to this vision, as you will see.
15:07
SPEAKER_02: Now, if this if this vision was something that's gonna happen, wouldn't it have happened regardless of his work to make it happen?
15:17
SPEAKER_00: I was thinking the same thing.
15:19
SPEAKER_02: Okay, so it makes the question makes sense, right?
15:21
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I think that I get his point and wanting to make sure it happens.
15:27
SPEAKER_00: Right, I think that's the that's the key.
15:28
SPEAKER_00: He just he wants to make sure that it happens because he he wants Penny.
15:36
SPEAKER_02: I always think of every time I say her name, I think of James Bond.
15:40
SPEAKER_02: Money penny.
15:41
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
15:44
SPEAKER_00: They go to see Jack to borrow a medical kit under the pretense that Desmond has a twisted ankle.
15:50
SPEAKER_00: Well oh, in the opening scene when Charlie gets the arrow in his neck.
15:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, pretty cool scene, by the way.
15:57
SPEAKER_00: Did you think that that was a fake out, or did you think that holy shit, this is where Charlie dies?
16:04
SPEAKER_02: I knew it was a I knew it was a Desmond episode, so I just assumed it was a flashback.
16:09
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it was a vision.
16:11
SPEAKER_00: Only today.
16:13
SPEAKER_00: Alright.
16:14
SPEAKER_00: I can't fucking fool you.
16:17
SPEAKER_00: Um they go to see Jack to borrow a medical kit under the pretense that Desmond has a twisted ankle.
16:25
SPEAKER_00: I I like this because Jack is like, you want me to help you?
16:28
SPEAKER_00: And Desmond's like, nah, I got it.
16:30
SPEAKER_00: I fixed up my share of ankles.
16:32
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was funny.
16:33
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
16:34
SPEAKER_00: And Jack, Jack is probably like, yeah, fuck you.
16:37
SPEAKER_02: Because God forbid Jack is a human.
16:40
SPEAKER_00: But you know, also calling back to the time when Desmond helped Jack with his ankle.
16:44
unknown: Right.
16:45
SPEAKER_02: I said, God forbid Jack is a human, and you know, I know he needs another person to help her.
16:51
SPEAKER_02: This scene, this episode had me all the way fucked up, but I'll tell you why later.
16:54
SPEAKER_00: Oh, I can't wait.
16:57
SPEAKER_00: Hurley asks Desmond if someone is going to get hurt.
17:00
SPEAKER_00: He refuses to help without an explanation.
17:03
SPEAKER_00: Desmond compares his flashes to puzzle pieces, except he does not know what picture the pieces form.
17:10
SPEAKER_04: This is like when you knew Claire was drowning, isn't it?
17:13
SPEAKER_04: That's why you got the first date kit.
17:14
SPEAKER_04: Someone's gonna get hurt.
17:15
SPEAKER_04: Is it me?
17:16
SPEAKER_04: No.
17:17
SPEAKER_04: It's just a precaution.
17:20
SPEAKER_04: You want me to take it to the wire?
17:21
SPEAKER_04: I want an explanation.
17:29
SPEAKER_04: What do you think?
17:38
SPEAKER_04: What are the pieces the first one?
17:51
SPEAKER_04: So what?
17:53
SPEAKER_04: Isn't that the point?
17:58
SPEAKER_04: So you're not trying to stop something from happening.
18:02
SPEAKER_04: You actually want it to happen.
18:06
SPEAKER_03: More than anything.
18:34
SPEAKER_00: Hurley and the cable are the first piece of this vision, but he can tell them more without compromising the vision.
18:41
SPEAKER_00: Remembering himself kissing Penny, Desmond admits to Hurley that the end result of this vision is something he wants to ensure above all else.
18:52
SPEAKER_00: Hey friends, Lisa here to tell you about an online store that I really, really like.
18:57

SPEAKER_00: Like he he turned like real stupid right there.
19:44
SPEAKER_00: He was like You act like you've never seen a naked before.
19:49
SPEAKER_02: Like damn.
19:51
SPEAKER_00: He is speechless as he looks at her.
19:53
SPEAKER_00: Kate is visibly irritated by his blatant oggling at her chest.
19:57
SPEAKER_00: So she points to her own face and says, up here.
19:59
SPEAKER_02: Okay, but you know what?
20:00
SPEAKER_02: Okay, first of all, like I said, she asks that they've never seen another naked before.
20:05
SPEAKER_02: But to be fair, there is one thing, there's a like seeing someone naked and another thing seeing someone partially dressed.
20:12
SPEAKER_02: It's a different kind of life.
20:13
SPEAKER_02: That is true.
20:14
SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, I get so I kind of feel his his pain and yeah, I get it, I get it.
20:22
SPEAKER_00: He asks if she told Jack about her and him.
20:26
SPEAKER_00: She reveals that she didn't, but that Jack saw them on camera at the Hydra.
20:31
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer offers an invitation for sex, but she rejects him.
20:35
SPEAKER_00: He jokingly asks if she needs a mixtape, and she replies, Yeah, why don't you do that?
20:41
SPEAKER_00: Desmond brings Hurley to enlist Jin for the journey, remembering a flash of Jin helping pull on the cable with Hurley.
20:49
SPEAKER_00: Desmond isn't sure how to break the communication barrier, but Hurley manages to convince Jin with his limited but improving English to come along on a camping trip.
20:59
SPEAKER_00: Next, Desmond has to recruit Charlie alone.
21:02
SPEAKER_00: Charlie knows it is in a camping trip and suspects another vision of his death.
21:07
SPEAKER_00: Desmond reveals someone is coming to the island but won't give him details.
21:12
SPEAKER_00: Charlie is worried about the danger, but Desmond says no one is going to die.
21:17
SPEAKER_00: Charlie asks if he can bring his guitar, and Desmond, having seen the guitar in the flash, agrees.
21:22
SPEAKER_00: The four some walk the beach, all but Desmond whistling, and Hurley recognizes the spot where the cable should be and where he entered the jungle and encountered Rousseau's traps.
21:32
SPEAKER_00: He and June pull the cable from under the sand, and Desmond decides they should set up camp before it gets dark.
21:40
SPEAKER_00: At night at the camp, Kate eats oatmeal and attempts friendly conversation and mild flirtation with Jack, who is merely polite and reserved.
21:48
SPEAKER_00: Jack says goodnight and walks away to Juliet.
21:51
SPEAKER_00: Kate watches sadly as Jack and Juliet eat and laugh together.
21:56
SPEAKER_00: Kate then goes to Sawyer's tent.
21:59
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer notices that Kate seems upset because she's crying.
22:02
SPEAKER_00: He attempts to inquire as his as her obvious distraught state, but she interrupts his question with a kiss and tells him to just shut up.
22:10
SPEAKER_00: At the cable, Charlie plucks his guitar strings as Jin tells a scary story in Korean with the flashlight under his face.
22:19
SPEAKER_00: Jin gets to a particularly scary part of the story and shouts, causing Hurley to get scary.
22:25
SPEAKER_00: And yell.
22:26
SPEAKER_02: I actually love it's funny how turmoil and your personal life, and then we see it on reality TV a lot with this issues with the marriage, and we don't know those issues with the marriage, or we did they're hiding it, really changes how you treat the people around you.
22:44
SPEAKER_02: So we see with Jin that him and his wife are good now.
22:48
SPEAKER_02: Like they got their they're they're they re found their love, if that makes sense, and he's just a cool dude.
22:55
SPEAKER_00: That's true.
22:56
SPEAKER_00: I never really thought about it that way.
22:57
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, you're 100% right.
22:59
SPEAKER_02: It's funny how your personal, it's how your personal what's going on in your in your heart changes what's going on in your head, and change your persona.
23:09
SPEAKER_02: You don't see Kate's told you in person now, like Kate in this episode has never been Kate on the island thus far.
23:18
SPEAKER_02: You've seen this Kate kind of like unsure in flashbacks, the beginning of her.
23:27
SPEAKER_02: But this type of Kate, we've never seen her like this since she's been on the island.
23:33
SPEAKER_02: She was demure, she was flirty, her face, like if you if you go back and watch it, her okay.
23:41
SPEAKER_02: So you know how you're watching a TV show and one person's playing a twin, and depending on the demeanor of the two other person, they kind of look they kind of look a little bit different.
23:52
SPEAKER_02: Like the cat, right?
23:54
SPEAKER_02: So if you pay attention to um Kate, she looks more like Kate pre on the run or Kate at the beginning on her run.
24:05
SPEAKER_02: She does her face doesn't look like Kate, Island Kate, that she's been on the run for all this time already and been chased.
24:12
SPEAKER_00: I didn't really consider that with Kate.
24:14
SPEAKER_02: She's not that hard, she's not hard.
24:16
SPEAKER_00: She's no, she's definitely not.
24:18
SPEAKER_02: She's softer, her she's flirty, she's not Kate.
24:23
SPEAKER_02: She was not the same Kate she was prior.
24:25
SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, uh, things have changed.
24:29
SPEAKER_02: And she doesn't look the same.
24:30
SPEAKER_02: Like if I think everyone should just go back and re-watch this episode, and you see she looks like I guess someone's playing like a twin Kate, like she looks slightly softer, if that makes sense.
24:42
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the personality is softer.
24:45
SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's it.
24:46
SPEAKER_02: I'm done playing Freud because sometimes cigar is just a cigar.
24:52
SPEAKER_00: The three laugh while Desmond stares at his photo at the distance.
24:57
SPEAKER_00: Hurley remarks on the part of Jin's story that he thinks is about a bird, indicating his growing understanding of Korean, and then starts his own story about the Chupacabra.
25:08
SPEAKER_00: Charlie offers Desmond some food and asks about his picture.
25:13
SPEAKER_00: Charlie asks why he left his girl behind, and Desmond says it's because he was a coward.
25:20
SPEAKER_00: He had run away, but she had tracked him down, and maybe she is still looking for him.
25:26
SPEAKER_00: They hear the sound of a helicopter in the distance, and Jin thinks it might be a rescue attempt.
25:31
SPEAKER_00: The helicopter's motor cuts out, and they hear screeching noises and see the helicopter crash far out in the water.
25:39
SPEAKER_00: Hurley says they should swim out, but then they see a red flashing light through the dark clouds.
25:45
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
25:46
SPEAKER_02: Epiphany.
25:47
SPEAKER_02: So remember the last episode about something with the magnet and the he was the mic or the leap, and you go this direction, you hit the true.
25:58
SPEAKER_02: So, like, oh yeah, so magnets changing your compass, obviously.
26:01
SPEAKER_02: Then you have the explosion of the hatch.
26:05
SPEAKER_02: The hatch, thank you.
26:07
SPEAKER_02: So it's kind of like this island has some kind of magnetic field around it, and every time something crosses it, hits it, they crash, boom.
26:16
SPEAKER_02: And that's why they need a submarine to get to where they to get onto the island.
26:22
SPEAKER_02: So it's not hell, it's a magnetically forced and forced island that they are, I wonder, so kind of like test.
26:31
SPEAKER_02: Because then no one ever had cancer, women can't get pregnant, and we know magnets really have a lot to do with things that we just don't understand.
26:40
SPEAKER_00: This is like the dome before there was the dome.
26:44
SPEAKER_02: Exactly, the dome before the dome.
26:47
SPEAKER_02: Okay, we may go on.
26:49
SPEAKER_02: I just had like a loss of pipany.
26:51
SPEAKER_00: Listen, you're on a roll today.
26:54
SPEAKER_00: You better drink this much every episode.
26:56
SPEAKER_02: I only have a brain when I'm drunk.
27:00
SPEAKER_00: Well, then we know how to solve it.
27:02
SPEAKER_00: They argue over who it might be.
27:05
SPEAKER_00: Desmond wants to go and find the parachutist, but Charlie refuses, wanting to wait until it gets light in two hours to avoid Danielle's traps.
27:14
SPEAKER_00: Desmond, afraid to lose Charlie's piece of the flash puzzle, agrees to wait until first light.
27:19
SPEAKER_00: The next day at the beach camp, Sawyer interrupts Jack and Juliet building something for her tent.
27:25
SPEAKER_00: He challenges Jack to a game of ping pong, joking that if they don't play every 108 minutes, that the island will explode.
27:34
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer is happy to be beating Jack the first round and states how strange it is to be back home.
27:40
SPEAKER_00: He's like finally something I could beat you at.
27:43
SPEAKER_02: Well, off island, I'm sure I'm sure Sawyer can beat him in a lot of things.
27:50
SPEAKER_00: Jack mentions a conversation he had with Kate the night before and that she had said the same thing.
27:56
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer asks if they ate together, but Jack reveals he ate with Juliet instead.
28:02
SPEAKER_00: In the jungle, Charlie complains about not getting enough information from Desmond, who points out that saving his life three times should buy him some trust.
28:11
SPEAKER_00: Hurley stops to rest, and Charlie finds a hula doll.
28:15
SPEAKER_00: Desmond looks up and sees the backpack in the tree.
28:18
SPEAKER_00: He climbs up by stepping on Hurley's shoulder to retrieve it and spills out the contents, which include a Portuguese version of the book, Catch 22, and a satellite phone.
28:29
SPEAKER_00: Hurley turns on the phone, but the battery quickly dies.
28:33
SPEAKER_00: In the book, Desmond finds a printout of the photo of Penny and him.
28:37
SPEAKER_00: At the beach camp, Sawyer hands Kate his mixtape, which is just a cassette of the best of Phil Collins he stole from Bernard.
28:46
SPEAKER_00: He asks her why she jumped him the night before and if it had anything to do with her seeing Jack and Juliet together.
28:54
SPEAKER_00: She denies it, but he says sadly that she doesn't have to use him, she only has to ask.
29:00
SPEAKER_00: In the jungle, Charlie asks if Desmond thinks the parachutist is Penny, and Desmond says he's certain now.
29:08
SPEAKER_00: He says he didn't want to tell Charlie so that nothing would change.
29:11
SPEAKER_00: Charlie says if they knew Desmond would be reunited with Penny, they would have helped him willingly.
29:17
SPEAKER_00: Desmond sees the flashes of Charlie's death again, and it starts to rain.
29:22
SPEAKER_00: Hurley makes a comment about Desmond not warning them to bring an umbrella.
29:26
SPEAKER_00: Jen asks who Penny is, and Hurley explains that she's Desmond's girl.
29:31
SPEAKER_00: Hurley and Charlie start arguing about the flash and Superman, and Desmond remembers this from his flash, realizing Charlie's death is imminent.
29:40
SPEAKER_00: Desmond spots the arrow in the trigger line.
29:43
SPEAKER_00: Charlie steps on it, lips his foot, and Desmond, after a moment of deliberation, yells for Charlie the duck and pushes him out of the way of the arrow.
29:53
SPEAKER_00: Desmond looks up, afraid that he has destroyed his chance to see Penny.
29:57
SPEAKER_00: Later, Jen and Desmond argue about which way the beacon they saw fell.
30:02
SPEAKER_00: They decide to split up, and Charlie insists on going with Desmond.
30:06
SPEAKER_00: Charlie confronts Desmond about knowing about the trap and not telling him, as well as accusing Desmond of planning to sacrifice him to find Penny.
30:15
SPEAKER_00: Desmond explains that if he doesn't follow the flashes, the overall picture changes.
30:19
SPEAKER_00: Desmond wonders out loud if saving Charlie does any good since he keeps getting into danger again.
30:25
SPEAKER_00: Maybe he is being tested by God, like Abraham.
30:29
SPEAKER_00: But so far he has failed the test.
30:31
SPEAKER_00: They hear Jin shout and run to find a parachutist hanging from a tree, not moving.
30:38
SPEAKER_00: Desmond, believing the parachutist to be dead, says, Sorry, Penny.
30:43
SPEAKER_00: Desmond climbs up the tree and cuts the parachutist down, who falls into the parachute the others are holding to catch her safely.
30:51
SPEAKER_00: Pearly hears the parachutist moan and announces that she is alive.
30:55
SPEAKER_00: Desmond runs to her and removes her mask, but it isn't Penny.
30:59
SPEAKER_00: It's not Penny.
31:01
SPEAKER_00: It is an unknown woman who only says Desmond before she passes out again.
31:06
SPEAKER_02: She's one of Penny's scientists.
31:10
SPEAKER_00: So Well, there goes the answer to that question I was gonna ask.
31:13
SPEAKER_02: Okay, see.
31:14
SPEAKER_02: Oh, maybe the island is some kind of study in parallel universes, parallel times, different because we already know that Penny's been just her scientists working on something, and it has to do with the islands.
31:28
SPEAKER_02: So maybe they're there, but they're not there.
31:32
SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
31:35
SPEAKER_02: Okay, never mind.
31:36
SPEAKER_02: Good night.
31:38
SPEAKER_00: Okay, trivia.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: Catch 22 refers to a self-contradicting no-win situation.
31:46
SPEAKER_00: So obviously, that's the relationship to this episode.
31:51
SPEAKER_00: Meaning, you know, Desmond's catch 22 is like, does he let Charlie die and risk the flash not coming true?
32:00
SPEAKER_00: And obviously, we see his choice.
32:03
SPEAKER_00: The hula doll found in the jungle looks like the one that Hurley had in his Hummer.
32:09
SPEAKER_00: So it says Desmond's flash shows Charlie getting shot with the arrow, but then later shows Charlie holding the parachute.
32:18
SPEAKER_02: So obviously he changed the when he saved him, he changed the flash, but um I this sounds so fucked up.
32:25
SPEAKER_02: I kinda just want to see like what happens when he does die.
32:28
SPEAKER_02: Then he's like, oh fuck, I'm gonna hire this shit.
32:30
SPEAKER_02: I feel like it's just like Groundhog's Day, but it's like a really bad version of it.
32:35
SPEAKER_02: Like, oh fuck this shit.
32:36
SPEAKER_00: Like, how how many times is Desmond gonna save Charlie before Charlie either just gives up or desmine gives up, or can they outrun it?
32:46
SPEAKER_01: You can't outrun death.
32:49
SPEAKER_02: Okay, but because every time he does, every time he does that, he's causing a bottleneck in the flow of death getting his souls.
33:03
SPEAKER_02: Because death isn't evil, death isn't bad, death is just there to collect souls.
33:08
SPEAKER_02: So every time you fuck up, every time you I feel maybe I watched too much charmed, like the original charmed.
33:18
SPEAKER_02: Um, like you stop something that's supposed to happen, you cause a bottleneck, and things can like like like final destination.
33:26
SPEAKER_02: Like you have to go back and you gotta do this plan because I can't move on until I finish my list.
33:32
SPEAKER_02: I think I could go down your list.
33:34
SPEAKER_02: Of oh, okay, good night.
33:38
SPEAKER_00: Jin Jin's Korean language ghost story translates as and the girl turned to the man who saved her and said, Thank God, I were I was afraid you were the hook man.
33:52
SPEAKER_00: And the man looked at the girl with a smile and said, Don't worry, little girl.
33:57
SPEAKER_00: My hook is still in your father's head.
34:02
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer talks about that he took the tape from Bernard, but like we haven't seen Rose and Bernard in like ever.
34:10
SPEAKER_02: Completely forgot about that.
34:12
SPEAKER_02: I really did.
34:13
SPEAKER_02: I forgot about Bernard and Rose.
34:15
SPEAKER_02: They're happy in their little little honeymoon phase of their lives.
34:23
SPEAKER_00: So that'll do it for trivia.
34:28
SPEAKER_02: Okay, why or why are us women fucking stupid?
34:34
SPEAKER_02: We want the one that doesn't want us.
34:36
SPEAKER_02: Meanwhile, the one that wants us and shows they want us, we just don't want like shit.
34:40
SPEAKER_02: Like, what the fuck is wrong with us?
34:42
SPEAKER_02: Sawyer for his all his like his awkward, I don't say awkward, but he's kind of like dubious ways of how he does it.
34:50
SPEAKER_02: He does try, he listens, he listens to Kate, he listens to what she wants.
34:55
SPEAKER_00: He knows her really well, right?
34:57
SPEAKER_02: Because he actually pays attention to who she is.
35:01
SPEAKER_02: And Jack does it, he never has, he really never has paid attention to who Kate is.
35:07
SPEAKER_02: And my heart's breaking for Sawyer.
35:11
SPEAKER_00: Sawyer saw right through the whole thing, and all it took was one familiar phrase, and Sawyer knew exactly what happened.
35:19
SPEAKER_02: But I think I think he knew something was not right when he saw her crying.
35:23
SPEAKER_02: Like he knew, like from get.
35:24
SPEAKER_02: Well, and I just yeah, I just it makes me sad that we fuck up the good things sometimes for the one who doesn't want us.
35:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so stupid.
35:36
SPEAKER_00: Like, not for nothing though, but Kate could have had Jack if that's what she wanted.
35:41
SPEAKER_00: She was too busy flip-flopping.
35:43
SPEAKER_02: But I don't think the funny thing is, I think in her heart of hearts she knows that he isn't the one for her.
35:49
SPEAKER_00: Who, Jack?
35:51
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think she knows that Jack isn't the one for her.
35:54
SPEAKER_02: In her heart of hearts, she knows.
35:57
SPEAKER_02: And I don't know.
35:59
SPEAKER_02: All right, get your shit together, Kate.
36:02
SPEAKER_00: Um, episode title catch 22.
36:05
SPEAKER_00: Pretty obvious.
36:06
SPEAKER_02: I mean can't win for losing.
36:09
SPEAKER_00: No, and I but I think that that also kind of refers to Kate.
36:13
SPEAKER_02: Ah, but she did it to herself though.
36:15
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, yeah, but yeah, it does.
36:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
36:19
SPEAKER_00: So anything else overall?
36:22
SPEAKER_00: You said this episode had you fucked up.
36:24
SPEAKER_00: Are you gonna tell me why, or did we talk about it already?
36:26
SPEAKER_02: No, just Kate in the way she treated my man saw you.
36:29
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, overall.
36:34
SPEAKER_00: Two thumbs up.
36:36
SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, yeah, don't get excited, it's our relative.
36:40
SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, but now we have a whole new um you know thing.
36:46
SPEAKER_00: I mean, something dropped that unknown person off in the jungle.
36:51
SPEAKER_02: The helicopter that hit that magnetic field because Penny has to do.
36:56
SPEAKER_02: What?
36:56
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because Penny sent her scientist to go get her man.
36:59
SPEAKER_02: Um, and then that magnetic dome, the dome before the dome.
37:03
SPEAKER_00: The dome before the dome.
37:04
SPEAKER_02: Caused the the thing to go.
37:06
SPEAKER_02: So she goes, yeah.
37:11
SPEAKER_00: So hopefully, next episode we'll get more information on this mysterious woman and what her intentions are.
37:23
SPEAKER_02: To say Penny's man, but you know, once you're on the island, you're on the island.
37:28
SPEAKER_00: Okay, so overall, I like this episode.
37:31
SPEAKER_00: I'm happy that you liked it too.
37:33
SPEAKER_02: Next week is D-O-C and a D-O-D-G, him stop.
37:43
SPEAKER_00: I'm too.
37:44
SPEAKER_00: It's a sun episode.
37:47
SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yeah, that'll do it for this episode.
37:52
SPEAKER_02: I'm a little tipsier than normal.
37:56
SPEAKER_02: Ready for a nap.
37:57
SPEAKER_00: Note yourself, drink in excess next time as well.
38:01
SPEAKER_02: We always say this.
38:02
SPEAKER_02: Every time I overdrink, we always say I gotta drink more, but you know.
38:06
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then adulting gets in the way.
38:09
SPEAKER_02: Adulting, fuck adulting.
38:10
SPEAKER_02: I'm too old to be a grown-up.
38:12
SPEAKER_02: Like this just for the birds.
38:13
SPEAKER_02: That's all I gotta say.
38:14
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I agree.
38:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we made it through another episode.
38:18
SPEAKER_00: So woohoo, congrats.
38:20
SPEAKER_02: Five more for this season.
38:22
SPEAKER_00: One, two, three.
38:23
SPEAKER_00: Yes, five.
38:24
SPEAKER_00: I mean, unless you count missing pieces, because that's still technically part of season three.
38:29
SPEAKER_00: But they're only like a minute or two, I think, or a couple of minutes each episode.
38:35
SPEAKER_00: So it's like the equivalent of like one more episode.
38:39
SPEAKER_00: And I actually I have never seen them, so it'll be a first for me, too.
38:45
SPEAKER_02: Oh, we're popping each other's cherries this time.
38:49
SPEAKER_00: So excited.
38:50
SPEAKER_02: There's not many cherries of me that need to be popped at this age.
38:54
SPEAKER_00: Are there any?
38:56
SPEAKER_02: Um totally different show.
39:03
SPEAKER_00: Anyway, please don't forget to check in with our um podcast trailers that we've published.
39:15
SPEAKER_00: You know, check them out, enhance your podcast listening variety.
39:20
SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
39:21
SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to sound smart, it's not really working.
39:25
SPEAKER_00: Thank you to everyone who heard our challenge to share shit on social media last week.
39:33
SPEAKER_00: And this week Did you say share shit?
39:36
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
39:37
SPEAKER_00: That's what I thought.
39:38
unknown: Okay.
39:39
SPEAKER_00: And this week we challenge you.
39:44
SPEAKER_00: What should the challenge?
39:45
SPEAKER_00: I didn't even come up with one for this week.
39:46
SPEAKER_00: What should the challenge be?
39:48
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
39:50
SPEAKER_00: You got one?
39:51
SPEAKER_00: Okay, I got one.

40:20
SPEAKER_00: Anything else?
40:20
SPEAKER_00: What am I missing?
40:23
