- 0:00Speaker 1: Everything in this election has just been turned on its
- 0:02Speaker 1: head in twenty four hours for three reasons, and it's
- 0:05Speaker 1: not because of national Firstly, yesterday Chris Hopkins was asked
- 0:10Speaker 1: if he would do a deal with TOP and how
- 0:13Speaker 1: he would do a deal with TOP. What are the caveats,
- 0:16Speaker 1: what are the parameters. So what he went on to
- 0:18Speaker 1: say is that they were the Labor Party were quote
- 0:24Speaker 1: going to do whatever and going to listen to the
- 0:30Speaker 1: voters on Top. Now that is a very different thing
- 0:34Speaker 1: to what he has said previously. Top is looking more
- 0:37Speaker 1: and more likely to get into Parliament and could hold
- 0:41Speaker 1: the balance of power. Luxeon well wounded, will not face
- 0:44Speaker 1: another keup now that his detractors would basically couldn't organize
- 0:49Speaker 1: a piss up in a brewery and couldn't get themselves
- 0:51Speaker 1: on into a single ticket to top of the boss.
- 0:54Speaker 1: In this case, the old saying is tipped on its head.
- 0:57Speaker 1: For me once, shame on me, For me twice, shame
- 0:59Speaker 1: on you. There are no third chances for a coup
- 1:03Speaker 1: pre election, which brings us to the state of play.
- 1:06Speaker 1: This election is going to be fought one and lost
- 1:08Speaker 1: on one issue, and that's tax. For Hipkins to woo
- 1:13Speaker 1: the Greens to party Marti and opportunity. They will need
- 1:17Speaker 1: to move on tax. Chloe Q Laywong and Debbie are
- 1:21Speaker 1: loading the gun, cocking it and wanting to fire on
- 1:23Speaker 1: Kiwii households on tax? So which taxes I went to
- 1:27Speaker 1: tops calculated this morning? For the land tax. If you're
- 1:31Speaker 1: a single, divorced mum with a house from your settlement,
- 1:34Speaker 1: maybe with your ex husband worth two million bucks, which is,
- 1:36Speaker 1: let's be honest, not much in Auckland these days, or
- 1:39Speaker 1: the Deep South, you'll be paying an extra four hundred
- 1:42Speaker 1: and fifty six dollars a week in tax. That's if
- 1:47Speaker 1: you're on one hundred k a year salary. That includes
- 1:50Speaker 1: thirty five thousand dollars a year in land taxes. If
- 1:54Speaker 1: you're a couple with kids living in Beachland's in Auckland,
- 1:57Speaker 1: you'll be paying an extra thirty bucks a week in taxes,
- 2:01Speaker 1: including twenty four thousand dollars in property taxes. That's before
- 2:05Speaker 1: you've factored in taxes on farmland, an effective inheritance tax,
- 2:09Speaker 1: labour's capital gains tax. I mean you can throw the
- 2:12Speaker 1: kitchen sink at this when you add them all together.
- 2:16Speaker 1: The fact we don't know how these four blocks parties
- 2:18Speaker 1: will actually spend that money, Well, it's messier than a
- 2:22Speaker 1: national coup. For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge,
