- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:27Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:29coop. So today I want to do a little
- 0:30exercise with you and it involves you grabbing maybe a
- 0:34pen and paper even if you're driving and you're doing this,
- 0:36like do the exercise part after. But you can think about it while
- 0:39you're driving, but it's going to give you some clarity on some
- 0:42things in your life. So let's start off with you've
- 0:45got a cruise ship. You're going to go on this
- 0:47amazing cruise ship. It's going to be the best cruise
- 0:51of your entire life. You're going to have the most
- 0:54fun you've ever had. It's going to be the kind of fun
- 0:56you like to have, whatever that might be.
- 0:59It's going to have all the food, the parties, the rest, Whatever
- 1:03your version of fun is, that's what this boat is going to
- 1:07provide, and you get to bring 10 people with you.
- 1:11Now you might be saying, I don't.
- 1:12There aren't 10 people that I would want to bring, and I'd
- 1:14already be laughing because I'd be saying the same thing.
- 1:16However, I would say whatever your number is, I'm giving you
- 1:2010 as an example because most people can say, OK, these are
- 1:24good, solid 10 people in my life, whether they're close
- 1:28family, close friends, acquaintances, just someone you
- 1:31would not want to know that would be on that boat with you.
- 1:34And I want you to make that list, OK, get that list down,
- 1:37figure out who would that be, who are those people that you
- 1:39would want to bring? And if you need to make more
- 1:42than 10, go ahead and do it. Don't stress out about that hard
- 1:44number of 10, OK? Now, once you have that done, I
- 1:49want you to start thinking about the next boat ride that I'm
- 1:52going to put you on is the worst.
- 1:54It's like the Gilligan's Island boat ride.
- 1:57For all of you who know what that is, it's going to be awful.
- 2:00You're going to encounter the worst seas.
- 2:02You're going to be sick to your stomach.
- 2:04You're going to have all kinds of problems.
- 2:06You are going to have food shortages.
- 2:08You're going to have everything that you could possibly imagine
- 2:11go wrong on this boat. Go wrong on this boat.
- 2:15Who are your 10 people that you would want to take with you on
- 2:18that ride? And no, it's not about torturing
- 2:21them. No, it's not about, hey, I want
- 2:22you to suffer while I suffer. This is about thinking of it in
- 2:27terms of who would you want to be spending your time with if
- 2:30you were stuck on this boat or if you're truly like the
- 2:32Gilligan's Island ride, stuck on an island where you can't get
- 2:35off. So who would those people be?
- 2:37Who are those 10 people that you would want to bring with you and
- 2:41write them all down so you have an idea of who they are?
- 2:45Now here's the tricky part of this exercise.
- 2:47When you have both of those done, the job is to sit and
- 2:51cross reference who is on both lists.
- 2:54Because those people, those are your core support system in
- 2:58life. Those people are your core
- 3:01support system, meaning you can take them anywhere you want to
- 3:05go and they're going to be there for you no matter what.
- 3:09Now here's the interesting part of this exercise.
- 3:13There are not a lot of people on the same list.
- 3:15For most most of us out there, if you have your ten that can
- 3:20cross reference to both lists. I love that.
- 3:23I mean, I don't have that. So I will tell you, most people
- 3:29that I have ever worked with or trained with or done these
- 3:33exercises with do not have the same people on both lists.
- 3:37And we often asked ourselves, well, why is that?
- 3:39Why is it that we don't have those people on, you know, both
- 3:42of our lists? Because we want to have people
- 3:44on both of our lists. But the reality is that every
- 3:48every person has a role in our lives, every everybody who comes
- 3:51in, just like we have roles in other people's lives.
- 3:54And we might be the person that they go to in crisis, but we
- 3:56would not be the person that they would want to take on their
- 3:58fun ship. And that, I mean, that was my
- 4:01mother. Honestly, I love my mother so
- 4:03much. I miss my mother every day.
- 4:05But my mother was the person who fell asleep in Disney World when
- 4:08I took her. She complained that she didn't
- 4:10see Winnie the Pooh enough. Did she have happy moments?
- 4:13Sure. But 80% of that trip she found
- 4:16problems. It was too hot.
- 4:18There was too much walking. The food wasn't what she liked.
- 4:21Winnie the Pooh wasn't around enough.
- 4:23They didn't make enough attempt to let you see the characters
- 4:26enough. You name it.
- 4:29And we were in supposedly the happiest place on the planet.
- 4:32And this is what happened. And it wasn't just that one
- 4:36trip. She went with her friend on a
- 4:37trip, and that trip ended up being a she went on a cruise and
- 4:42funny enough for this exercise, and they went to Mexico.
- 4:45And lo and behold, she was complaining about the trip to
- 4:48Mexico and that it was, you know, the the ship was too much
- 4:53to walk around the there were too many choices with food.
- 4:56I mean, too many choices with food.
- 4:58She found a way to complain about that, and her friend and I
- 5:00were laughing about it. But you know, here's the here's
- 5:03the interesting part of this. Once you start to realize who's
- 5:06on both lists, you can start to appreciate them on different
- 5:10levels because they truly are gifts.
- 5:13My friends, when you can find somebody that is on both of
- 5:17those lists, Oh my gosh. And I will say my husband is
- 5:22that person that's on both those lists for me, without question.
- 5:25I have been in dire straits of situations with him when, you
- 5:29know, we got into trouble kayaking in a fast moving black
- 5:32water swamp. And I've never seen a human
- 5:35being as calm and as directive and as cool as the whole thing
- 5:41could have been. In in the water, moving, trying
- 5:44to save our son. Holding him up and hanging on to
- 5:46a kayak and still not yelling, no screaming, calm as can be,
- 5:50directing me what to do. And he's also the coolest person
- 5:55to go on vacation with because wherever we go, we always have
- 5:57fun. You know, walking Amsterdam and
- 6:00realizing that we had been out walking for 14 hours and we
- 6:04didn't realize it because of the the lighting and how the light
- 6:07wasn't going down. And we laughed and had such a
- 6:09great time about it. And like, why are we so tired?
- 6:11Well, because we had so much fun and didn't even realize the
- 6:14time. He's my person.
- 6:16That's on both. And I mean, when you find those
- 6:22people, you hang on to them and you find ways to give them grace
- 6:27when they need it. And that's what this is all
- 6:29about is that once you recognize where these people are in your
- 6:33life and how they show up and how you show up with them, you
- 6:37know the opposite of this is are you on someone's cruise ship of
- 6:41fun and also on their Gilligan's Island boat or are you just
- 6:44showing up on one of those? It's a great way for us to be in
- 6:47that exercise of saying, well, am I showing up as a, you know,
- 6:51both ships person or am I showing up just as a crisis
- 6:56ship? And that's no fun at all.
- 6:59So take the inventory, figure out who are your people and
- 7:03figure out are you being the dual person for somebody or are
- 7:07you just being you know that 11 sided person that can't be there
- 7:12for somebody else. And then figure out is that
- 7:15something you really want, are you OK with that or do you want
- 7:17to shift it. So I will see you guys tomorrow.
- 7:20Have fun taking your cruise. Bye.
